In short

This episode is an “OUTRO” segment from The Hauraki Big Show, reflecting on a cold live broadcast at a beach hot-spring spa during the Black Clash period. The hosts joke about a man with a medical gait (“Fast Eddie”), their own holiday schedules, and how freezing weather affected audio and setup (no speakers, people not finding them, wind). They discuss the spa temperature dropping from 38 to 36 degrees and needing it cranked higher.

Key claims

the broadcast had to be “blasted through” due to weather; headsets from ACC sounded great; they’ll return next year and do a live pub show before the event. Notable examples include eggplant parmesan talk, “wooing” a wife’s cousin with red wine and Al Green, and orange wine preferences.

Guests

none named; it’s a host-only banter outro.

0:00Oh. For all you mad bastards loving the Big Show podcast, get up even closer on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok or Raw Doggy. Four to seven every weekday on Radio Hood RK. The bros got swagger though.

0:18Mike Minogue:Well, that's the thing. I saw him out the corner of my eye and I was like, here we go. This guy walking like pug son. What? And I looked over and it was a guy who, for health reasons, didn't have a regular gait. I don't know what the gates of the pugs are, but... What? Are they still cucked? They don't work. Oh, yay. But they were different ones, though, weren't they, yesterday? They were different ones. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Headphones. Yeah, just headphone chat. Gate's the way you walk, man.

0:42Jason Hoyte:G-A-I-T. G-A-I... I didn't know that. That's the first time I heard that word. How did you spell it? Keezy learning shit. What's that? How did you spell it? Well, the only way I've ever seen the word gate spelled is G-A-T-E, obviously. He wasn't walking holding a gate, pugs.

0:57Mike Minogue:I'm in the hoity J seat. I have to be highly intelligent this is going to be and he is absolutely in the Keezy seat there he's over it roll the eyes nice one man Jase no if I was you I would have gone yeah yeah yeah I was walking with a gate yeah yeah yes Jase but so at the corner of my eye I saw this person like swagging out and I was like oh shit and then I looked over and it was a guy with for medical reasons was walking you don't know for medical reasons how did you know it was for medical reasons I could tell it was for medical reasons it might be because he feels like it, Keezy. Totally, and I hope it was.

1:30Mike Minogue:But as I was looking at him, I heard Moggy saying under his breath, here he is, Fast Eddie. I don't think that was under my breath at all. Wasn't it? It's pretty loud. You'll hear it in the podcast. Old Fast Eddie, they call him. Here he is, Fast Eddie. Here he is. And then I was like, I hope he's not calling that guy Fast Eddie. Well, no, I'm not calling that to him on his face. You're drawing a lot of attention to it. If anyone's to blame Keezy, it's you. Disgraceful behavior from you, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Nah, nah. you've got to be Jase you've got to respond like Jase now Jase is on his extensive holiday everyone out there fuck he's in a horrible mood about it too what I love about his holiday which is two days four days thanks four days including the weekend buggy is that he started his holiday by doing what he does most Thursdays well this is the thing about it isn't it is that he is on holiday for 21 hours out of a day you're right every single day every day that's right every day is 21 hours of holiday 100 % yeah so when you send that photo through a plane golf.

2:27It's like, okay, so it's another day in the life of 40J.

2:30Mike Minogue:100%. Now he's going to be at home. Usually he'll be driving into work. Now he'll just be sitting at home going and he's got nothing to do. And his missus will be putting him to work. It's going to be sick. Hopefully. He does fuck all at home, right? Oh, I couldn't tell you, man. He won't invite me around. No, no. I reckon he does. He doesn't give off doing lots of vibes.

2:50Jason Hoyte:No. He probably hangs out, has a coffee, sits there, has a vape. It takes 10 minutes. In his trackies. In his trackies. 100 % Slobbing out Has a cracker Maybe at about 12.30 Cracker With some tomato on it man You know what I'm saying Pugs can you tell everyone

3:06Mike Minogue:About your eggplant recipe man Because that's the vibes I'm getting right now

3:09Jason Hoyte:Chris got so pissed off At me yesterday Because I asked him Oh Can I tell you what I had For dinner last night Because I tried a new recipe Where was this This is at This is at the beach I don't know Fucking freezing my balls off I mean he was fucking freezing His balls off And I thought it'd be funny For him to Because I knew he'd say no No, I said, yeah, absolutely.

3:28Mike Minogue:And then you said, can I tell you about this new recipe I tried? I was like, yeah, absolutely. What was it? And you said eggplant parmesan or something. He was like, do you want to know the recipe? And I said, no, I don't.

3:36Jason Hoyte:And I proceeded to tell him anyway. And he got visibly angry.

3:40Mike Minogue:The slowest low energy pace you've ever seen. I'm like, cool. Did you have somewhere to be? No, but I was like, I'd rather listen to the wind whistling over the beautiful mowo, which is Mount Maunganui. Oh, yeah. It said pugs are sitting there going, and then you take it. But you were in a horror of a mood because you were in that cold spa. that self-imposed sort of discomfort.

4:00Jason Hoyte:The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast.

4:08Mike Minogue:Did we have this chat? No, we didn't do an outro yesterday. I was going to say, plus I had had two bottles of red wine the night prior. Oh, God. There it is.

4:15Jason Hoyte:Of course, I completely forgot. That would be why you were so shitty at the end of it. Yeah, man. It was cold. Yeah, the cold. It was cold. It was pretty miserable. Yeah. Fun, though. Fast Eddie Returns I like the live show aspect the instant rapport that we get with the live audience I think we're used to that by now in terms of having a crowd so it was quite different doing one with none with none, yeah it's a long way to go to do that

4:43Mike Minogue:yeah, 100 % 100 % and if the Black Clash wasn't such a big sporting thing and they had selected Hauraki as their partners I guess the thing about it is I'm not sure why there wasn't a crowd because you could easily have just said, come on down.

4:59Jason Hoyte:Well, we did encourage people with the tickets and we did have people coming down, but they kind of didn't get on the sand. Like a lot of them were sort of just chilling on the grass. But you know what I mean? It could have been set up. For example, there were no speakers. With the speakers and stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right. We're going to do it. Yeah, that's right, man.

5:15Mike Minogue:Yeah, I'd also like to apologise if anyone came down and then couldn't find us. Yeah, we were down the other end of the beach. We were down the other end of the beach. Yeah, we were in Papa Mike. We were on Pilot Bay. The truth of the matter is, can we say that? And then maybe it can be blanked out. Nah, sure, fuck, I don't care. The truth of the matter is, because it was freezing cold and blowing a fucking gale, it meant that we couldn't do the broadcast how we normally would, which would be live all the way through. But because of the weather, we had to blast through it. And so that's why we might have got down there at 5, 5.30 and we weren't there.

5:44Mike Minogue:Yeah, and that's also because the hot spring spa didn't hold its heat because the lid was off it for a long time. and when we first hopped in it was great. We should have cranked that sucker up, man, like 42.

5:56Jason Hoyte:I agree. There was a dude there that was coordinating that. Was it not on 42? No, it was on 38. It was 38 and then it dropped down to 36 by the end of it, which would be a noticeable change for your body. Which is why I said before we got there, make sure it's at max. Who'd you say that to? The person who's in control of that. And she said, absolutely, I've already told them. Yeah, nice. Great. But we do that every time. And the same when we go to the Black Clash. It's fucking freezing. Make it hot as. Oh, yeah, no, we will. When you get there, it's cold as fuck and they want you to sit in there for five hours.

6:22Mike Minogue:Yeah, with your giant nips on the tally and stuff. I mean, come on. You know what I mean? And then it's full of chips and fucking beers and shit. And also because of the wind and shit, I was really worried that it was going to sound bad, but we listened to a couple of breaks in the last few breaks. It was all good. It sounds all G.

6:38Jason Hoyte:You could catch wind in certain moments for sure, particularly as you said before with other people that weren't necessarily as mic-ready as you were, but those headsets from the ACC were fantastic.

6:49Mike Minogue:They were good, and if anyone came down and missed out and was gutted, we will be back next year before the Black Claps that Friday night. We'll be doing a live show at a pub. That'd be huge, man. We'll definitely be at a pub doing a live show, giving away backbone teas, doing the whole thing. They're up for a ****, aren't they, fellas? The ****. We should have so many more ****, man. Is that public knowledge? Who gives a ****? Who gives a ****? It won't happen for three years, so, you know.

7:14Jason Hoyte:I'm going to bleep that out. Wait, so you're going to bleep that out? Yeah. Are you serious? Yeah, I'm going to bleep it out. Well because I don't know if it's public knowledge Who cares? What does it matter? It's not a state secret You guys are being a wind up Chris is grinning at me right now because it's a wind up But there are some things that we don't reveal until it happens Oh right Which is not new for us

7:35Mike Minogue:No no totally I just don't Yeah I just don't care I don't think it matters at all But if it matters to pugs Thanks guys And also the air of mystery About the

7:48Jason Hoyte:bleep yeah yeah yeah yeah totally you're just you're just making more work for me right now that's the idea that's great you guys are so good man what is it Friday today or not

8:01Mike Minogue:no it's Thursday yeah I wish and here's a heads up tomorrow yes I'm probably gonna be hung over it feels like we should have a it feels like we should do the throwback today and tomorrow

8:12Jason Hoyte:yeah yeah you know what I'm saying you get it yeah nah no You're going to be hungover tomorrow. Two days in a row. And then it'll be Friday, you'll be smashed again. Two days in a row. You hungover yesterday, day off.

8:25Mike Minogue:So what's happened here? But two day hangover usually. For the listeners though, we were talking so much shit in the ute on the way down that I thought it was on the podcast outro about me trying to woo my wife's cousin who was staying with us by getting drunk on two bottles of red wine and then playing Al Green. And so now apparently I'm hungover. No, but did you have what? You definitely had one bottle of wine. One bottle between three of us. Right, and you didn't end up having the second bottle of wine. No, it's still in the fridge. I wanted to have it. Remember, I was like, well, we'll replace it.

8:52Mike Minogue:Was the red wines in the fridge? Sparkling red. Sparkling? Chilled sparkling red. It was fucking delicious. Yummy. No, seriously. It genuinely was.

9:00Jason Hoyte:I love wine.

9:01Mike Minogue:Yeah, I saw orange wine the other day, and I heard you say you like orange wine. Get around it. Give it a go.

9:06Jason Hoyte:Very summery, though.

9:07Mike Minogue:It's not like one of those things that cool people are having, and it's not actually that great, but it's cool to have. I really like it. It's delicious.

9:12Jason Hoyte:I'm a long-time citrus fan. Always been a He's always been a citrus boy Me oranges and me And me lemons and me mandarins Can we beep this out as well?

9:22Mike Minogue:Ah this is secret chat man No Mike This is not public knowledge I'm gonna go through Can we beep it out though? Because I think it's damaging our brand Fuck you I'm gonna bleep you out

9:31Jason Hoyte:For the whole podcast Ah that's funny Listen to the big show Four to seven weekdays I'm ready to hodaki guys Or don't I don't Yeah I Jase No we do want you to Yeah Did do Okay, love you, bye Bye
