In short
A casual end-of-show chat on The Hauraki Big Show about everyday mishaps—voice/audio glitches, home DIY (fixing a leaning picket fence and oven/extraction issues), and plans to start Pilates—then a brief “we might be sick” discussion and scheduling leave.
Guests/backgrounds
The hosts are four regulars: Jase, Kesey (Keezy), Kevin, and Phil/Mogey (referred to as “Mogi/Mogey”). They trade personal updates from home and work; no formal guest bios are given.
Key claims
Jase’s voice/audio problems are blamed on headphones/allergies; Kesey’s fence was straightened using tie-downs as a winch; Pilates is recommended/hot Pilates mentioned; oven extraction may require carbon filters; one host feels contagious illness symptoms.
Notable examples
Digging out tree roots tilting a concrete-anchored picket fence; leveling a heavy oven by adjusting plastic feet; debating electrician-installed extraction vs carbon filters; sore armpits/burning stomach and texting “Toddy” about leave.

0:15Keyzie:Yeah man, yeah whatever.
0:17Mike Minogue:How are you feeling Jase? Um... Your voice sounded really weird earlier.
0:25Keyzie:Yes, it did. And I might have to talk in a higher register in order for it to come across. I don't know what's going on there.
0:31Mike Minogue:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Are you honest?
0:32Keyzie:It was fine this morning and then I started talking to my daughter and it just went. I think you're allergic to the show, man. Yeah, maybe, maybe. In actual fact, I got home last night and my voice completely was shit. And my wife was like, what the fuck is going on with your voice? And I said, I have no idea. Is there something happening with these headphones? My left side is not working. I have no idea. I don't know.
0:55Mike Minogue:Do you have control at your side there, Kevin? It looks like it's not screwed into its adapter properly. This is good chat.
1:02Keyzie:Yeah, how are you going anyway, Phil?
1:03Mike Minogue:Yeah, I'm great. I spent the whole day digging. Yes. Right, because we've got this... We've got a picket fence at our house, right? A white picket fence? Yeah, out the back, and it's got like a concrete base on it that someone's made to anchor it into the ground, and a root has grown under it of this tree and has tilted it all forward. Now you can't close the gate on the picket fence. Spent the whole day digging and cutting out roots. Oh, man.
1:29Keyzie:I tell you what, with us doing our garden at the moment, the old roots are just fucking a nightmare. You get these fucking massive knotty bastards that go about four feet under the ground that you actually ended up having to hack away with with an axe and shit.
1:48Mike Minogue:That was me today. I hate it.
1:49Keyzie:I hate that shit.
1:50Mike Minogue:That was a lot of fun. I have to do something about my back because I was working for five minutes and my back was sore and I was like, I have to do something. Well, you have to exercise. You have to do back exercises. I'm going to start doing Pilates. Yeah. That's probably good. Running and stuff hurts my back because of my fucked vertebrae. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I've said to my wife already, I might discuss on the show, I think I need to start doing Pilates. Sure.
2:10Keyzie:Yeah. You should get in touch with my wife because she does them every morning and she's big into the Pilates.
2:16Mike Minogue:She'll get in touch with Jase's wife about it. Yeah, yeah. So what are you picturing here? Like I come around to your house and do them every morning with your wife?
2:22Keyzie:No, that's not what I'm picturing. What are you picturing? What are you picturing? You have a chat to her and she'll go, hey, go on this side or go on that side. They're really good. I think Keezy would want to go to the classes and sort of be up the back there.
2:33Mike Minogue:Yeah, maybe. No, well, my wife's been to quite a few and she's like, there's this one really good woman who used to do it at the gym around the corner from our house. Right. She doesn't do it there anymore, so she's going to ring her up and see where she does it now. Sure. Because she was really good. You should get your wife to talk to Jase's wife about it.
2:47Keyzie:Is it hot Pilates? It is if Keezy's doing it. Yeah, that's true. Isn't it hot yoga you're thinking of? Just in terms – there is hot Pilates too. Really? In terms of your picket fence leaning over there, Kesey, we've got a – our – what do you call it? Clothesline has been cemented into the ground there.
3:08Mike Minogue:I picture you as one of the classic middle pole spinning clotheslines. Yes, it's an old school one. Same as us.
3:14Keyzie:But it's on a massive lean though. Right. So it's like this. It's like, oh, yeah, that's all right. I mean, I could fix it, but no, fuck it, it's fine. You could have it fixed. I could have it fixed, yeah, yeah. Is it tilting because of tree roots? No, I think it's tilting because the lawn just got really wet and it's in concrete and it's just gone... I don't know if Jay sounds like mogi from last year or two. I actually don't think I could fix it. I think you'd have to... Fuck, it's terrible. You're fucking Dez Hasler, mate. Yeah, mate. You're fucking Jeff Dez. Dez Hasler.
3:48Mike Minogue:Can you do this for me just to test real quick? Can you go...
3:51Keyzie:Izzy! No, I won't do that, Izzy. But I did fit, you know, I got my stove level yesterday on your advice. Yeah, so it's fine. Just adjusted the feet there. So where's Jase gone? That's good advice from you, Kesey. Well done, brother. How old are you again, man? 41, you're coming up to, eh? 41 too. You've got a few lessons to learn. I was just worried because they were plastic feet, Mogey, and it's a fucking heavy oven. and I was thinking if I, you know, screw them out a bit, they're probably going to snap knowing my luck. So I didn't do it. But then Casey was like, no, it should be fine. I love how he's – Don't even say don't even try, eh?
4:29Keyzie:He starts the sentences as Jase and finishes as Lee. It's really weird. Well, it's – you know, it was about an inch off the bench, Mogey. Oh, yes. And I said, you know, I can live with that for, you know, a little while, but we can just get a bit of wood and slide that under there to bring it up. But then sorted it out. It was fine.
4:49Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.
4:56Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show podcast. You've just done your whole kitchen up, right? Yes. Wow. So that's really nice.
5:01Keyzie:It's a while ago now.
5:03Mike Minogue:Bay leaf. Wow, it was like within the last couple of years. Yes. So you want it to look nice with your new oven, you know. Yes. Yeah, flash new oven, eh? It's not flash, actually. It's pretty shit. Have you sorted out your extraction?
5:15Keyzie:Well actually I was talking to the Electrician who came over yesterday To put the old oven in And I know fuck man That was months ago What? Because you had to have the electrician install your oven Which you didn't know about because it came without the Yeah it wasn't months but it was a while It took us fucking ages to get a bloody Electrician It was before we went to Europe No
5:38Mike Minogue:I think it was before you went to Europe I was already in Europe because I don't remember this at all That's when Pugs must have been doing the show
5:44Keyzie:But anyway, and I said to him, yeah, so we've got this extraction fan here, which we've got to put in too, because we're looking to rent the place out. And he said, oh, yeah, that'll be a fucking bitch of a job. Yeah, but it will. Because it's so far. It's going to be so far from the roof. And they have to. Yeah. I don't know, man. We'll sort it out. I don't fucking care. The suggestion was the carbon filters. Not great. What's not great? We looked into that. But you still have to do quite a bit of stuff with that. We didn't. Didn't you? No. Just stuck the bastards in and that was the end of it.
6:21Okay. They might have changed the rules. Maybe you should come around and have a look at it, Mogi. No, it's your problem, not mine. I've got enough going on.
6:27Keyzie:You've got your own problems. You know what you should do with your clothes on. But it was nice to get an invite to come over.
6:32Mike Minogue:Yeah, fuck, come around and fix my oven.
6:34Keyzie:You're always welcome, Mogi. I appreciate that, man. Any time you want to pop in, mate. What's your address, man? I'm not telling you, Keezy.
6:41Mike Minogue:All I know is it's near that dairy that I got some potatoes from once
6:43Keyzie:Because you'll turn up one day massively steamed
6:46Mike Minogue:Yeah, you will
6:46Keyzie:Hey, what do you say, man? Let me get into the house
6:49Mike Minogue:You're going to do some Pilates with your mission, right?
6:50Keyzie:There's gossipy there, but you're going to do some Pilates

6:53Mike Minogue:It's 7am on a Tuesday, ready for my Pilates Yeah So what I did today, Jason, that could work for you Washing line Is I used a couple of tie downs in a tree Right? And I used them as like a winch almost to bring it forward after I dug in behind it, the concrete, probably worked for your washing line. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. Sounds like a lot of work. It does, doesn't it? It took me like, I don't know, 15 minutes.
7:18Keyzie:I've just got to sort of construct a winch. Can you imagine me trying to do a winch?
7:23Mike Minogue:It's a fucking tie-down. It's just you put it around the tree, put it around the thing, and then just tighten it, and it's like a winch. Look, he's not a qualified engineer.
7:31Keyzie:Yeah, I'm not a fucking Superman, Casey. Fucking hell, man. Come on.
7:38Mike Minogue:It worked though, so my fence is nice and straight.
7:41Keyzie:Oh, that's good, because you want a straight picket fence.
7:46Mike Minogue:People listening to this must be like, are there four people in the studio right now? Because your voice starts out as you and then changes. Yeah, yeah. Sorry, man, do you reckon you'll get through the show today?
7:56Keyzie:I don't know, I'll be fine. I'll be all right, mate. How are you going, mate? I'm a bit crook, man. Woke up a bit crook, to be honest with you. Not great today. Slept like a bastard. Woke up with the alarm of the old missus there. Yeah. And just not good. Not good. What's wrong?
8:09Mike Minogue:What are you feeling? I don't know. It feels contagious, though. It feels like the sort of thing that Jase is going to get, but he won't know he's got it until he wakes up on Thursday.
8:20Keyzie:Look, I'm aware that, you know. When he's got a couple of days off. I've got a couple of days off coming up. And it will be fucking typical because we've got lots planned for that and I'll be crook as a fucking dog. I know it.
8:30Mike Minogue:Why don't you text, why don't you have a word to Toddy? 3483. And why don't you say, hey, I've decided I'm not taking leave. I'll be here Thursday, Friday, and then pull a sickie Thursday, Friday. Yeah, sure. You know what I mean? Then it's sick leave. They're the one. Because you've only got like one day of leave left. So you have to choose if you want to work New Year's Eve or Christmas. Yeah, that's true.
8:52Keyzie:I want to be very sort of, you know, picky about when I'm doing my leave. Yeah, yeah. Leavings. Can I have, you know, Thursday afternoon off, Toddy? That would be good, mate. Thanks, mate. but that's you for the year that's you for the year I think I've got a couple of hours a couple of hours before the end of the year
9:16Mike Minogue:do it in hours I've got 24 hours I'd love to be able to help you out there busy time of year a lot of stuff going on a lot of moving parts a lot of things up in the air I couldn't tell you I'd love to if I knew I'd tell you Yeah. But I don't know where I'll be.
9:36Keyzie:But hopefully we feel better by tomorrow there, Mogey. I don't really want to be on a windswept beach feeling like this, that's for sure. It's a fucking shithouse. I'd actually plan to bring the kid along. Oh, right. But she's off sick, so I don't know if that's connected to me feeling sick. I've got sore armpits as well. I don't know what that is.
9:58Mike Minogue:That's... Glands. Blinger cockle.
10:01Keyzie:Glands and the AIDS. and a sort of burning stomach. Yeah. I think it's all over for you. It feels like this is your last year, and not just on the radio, like on earth.
10:14Mike Minogue:I think if you guys are going to be sick, I reckon we get through tomorrow, so it's not Keezy and Neil Wagner sitting in a tub. Oh, it feels like that'll be good stuff. Keezy, Neil Wagner, Kieran Reid, and Mahe Drozda. All of which are great New Zealanders, of course. Especially that Keezy. And Pugson. but be sick Thursday and Friday fellas alright?
10:35Keyzie:Yeah I wouldn't worry about it man I'm not going to be sick Thursday and Friday
