In short

The episode is an outro segment from The Hauraki Big Show, where the hosts banter about studio logistics (buying a couch), rainy-day city walks, and relationship/jealousy thoughts while one partner is away for an audition/play. They discuss jealousy spirals, Eckhart Tolle’s ideas about thoughts harming you, and how sometimes thoughts are “bang on” (including cheating experiences). A guest background is implied through personal confessions: one host describes being clingy/needful, then less so, and later owning past “scumbag” behavior—cheating and drinking to escape self-loathing. Notable examples include early drinking at 15–16 (Baileys/Kahlua, wine, cigarettes), mates vomiting off a veranda, and a school night theft of Matron’s creme de menthe, with one friend (Great Mate Marty) power-chundering in silhouette.

0:00For all you mad bastards loving the Big Show podcast, get up even closer on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok or Raw Dog It. 4 to 7 every weekday on Radio Horeke. Oh, g'day fellas.

0:17Keyzie:Oh, that hurt. I just had something to say, but then I thought, shit, I can save that for the old show there. Yeah, good stuff. I was trying to buy a couch, Keezy, for the podcast studio. And that's good for the show, is it? Well, the conversation that I had with the dude that I bought the couch off is good for the show. Right, okay. Another backbone. Another backbone, just spinning the arms. Yeah, it was good fun. Good stuff, man. Sounds exciting. We'll put that in the six o 'clock hour. Yeah.

0:50Mike Minogue:No, the six o 'clock hour is where we put our best stuff.

0:52Keyzie:Yeah, six to seven, man. That's what I'm saying. It just goes off. That's where what's on the dinner room, man. I don't want anyone to think. Around the lump lottery. Yes. You know. When they, you know, are listening to the actual live show that we dial out from six to seven. I mean, that would just be a false narrative.

1:07Mike Minogue:If anything, we dial in.

1:08Keyzie:Yeah. It's like, it's almost like it takes us two hours to wake up.

1:12Mike Minogue:And then boom.

1:13Keyzie:And then boom, our best shit comes out. Those last couple of breaks.

1:15Mike Minogue:Then boom, what's on the dinner? Yes.

1:18Keyzie:But I tell you what, fellas, my first kind of rainy day in the city, really. Big city life. How is it?

1:24Mike Minogue:I like walking around the city in the rain. as I've spoken about before.

1:27Keyzie:I actually kind of liked it. You know, and being in the apartment today, jeez, I've done some. My wife had an audition this morning at a place called Catch Casting. You know that, Mogey? Yeah, I do. Which is down, what's that road there? But anyway, it's quite a good old walk from our place. Great North, isn't it? Yeah, Great North. 30-minute walk there, 30-minute walk back. She's a hike. Oh, did you go along as well? Yeah, I just. I was for some support. And I just sat around. You're quite cute, aren't you, you two, that you would go along for that? Yeah, well, you know. And she said, oh. But is it?

1:56Mike Minogue:Can she just go on her own and she wants to go on her own? I prefer to look at her as cute instead of fucking needy.

2:03Keyzie:Well, here's the thing, fellas. Are you a clinger? I used to be. Are you a cling-on? I used to be, actually. I had some issues with that. I was a bit clingy. Yeah, I could see why, though. I was a bit needy. It doesn't come from nowhere. Yeah, I was a bit needy. But way less now. But no, it was more because at the moment my wife's doing this play, as you both know. Yeah. I just don't see her at all.

2:26Mike Minogue:Oh, you miss her.

2:27Keyzie:Yeah, I miss her. And I go home at night and it's just like, what do I do now? I just sort of sit in there hanging out. She doesn't get back to like 11. Sort of, you're saying like sometimes 2, 3 in the morning. Well, yeah, like. Steam. Just reeking a brute 33.

2:44Keyzie:Well, that would be an example of it back in the day, right, when we were early doors and she'd come back late from, you know, because she did quite a few plays back in the day, and it'd be like, what fucking time is this? Yeah. It's bloody three hours after the show. That's right. What have you been up to? Actually, I had my period. I had a period of jealousy. Yes. But it was a fairly short period, and I've never had it before. But I had it, but I didn't say anything about it. Right, okay. Anything I didn't. In my actions, there would have been no evidence that I was jealous. Yes. Because in my head I was just thinking, you're being weak.

3:22This is weak behaviour. Yes. These are weak thoughts. Just shut up and eventually we'll get over it, and that's what happened. And it worked. It did, yeah. I fucking. You see, I. It's one of the lowest forms of. It's terrible.

3:35Keyzie:It's a terrible, terrible thing. And you can just spiral with it. And you can. You can. And that's what I would do. And everything becomes a reinforcement. Correct. Of your incorrect thinking. God, I tell you what, fellas. I'm listening to Eckhart Tolle at the moment on my walks. That guy gets it, man. And that's exactly what he's talking about, your thoughts killing you. Oh, yeah. But also making you also the opposite being true. Yes. But I used to get into such a way of thinking about that sort of stuff that I just despised myself. I despised myself. You know, when you say it out loud and you go, oh, why did you fucking say that, you idiot?

4:17Idiot. When it becomes quite clear, and I haven't done it, thankfully, but from the response, how wrong you are? Yes.

4:26Mike Minogue:That would suck. I fortunately have never had to. But also there will be situations where there is a reason to be. Oh, yeah, absolutely. You know what I mean? Oh, yeah. So, yeah, when they're, like, hooking into someone. You're like, hang on a minute. Whoa. Can I just say. Hang on. Is there something going on here?

4:43Keyzie:I've also, on the flip side, just on that note, had the flip side of that coin, which is my thoughts were bang on. Yes, and you have also been cheated on and also cheated on people. Correct.

4:57Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast.

5:05Keyzie:This is all part of life, you know, and I'll own it. Yeah. I'll own it. And boy, did I fucking own it. You were owning it all right. Boy, all geez. How did you manage it? How did you run the operation? What, when someone was unfaithful to me or when I was unfaithful to someone? No, when you were a scumbag. When I was a scumbag. Well, you know, I was young and horny and... Steamed? Yeah, steamed. Steamed, definitely. Lethal combo. Yeah. It is a lethal combo. Very poorly. Did you continue it, though? Because were you going, oh, I'm just popping out? Were you doing the balancing act? Get some balancing act.

5:44Thank you.

5:45Keyzie:I was never. Going out for a vape. Yeah, not back in those days, but a ciggy. No, it was never like an affair type scenario. Right, one off. Yes. And on one, on this particular occasion, it went beyond that because my girlfriend went, fuck you.

6:05Mike Minogue:Yeah, right, okay.

6:06Keyzie:And then I went, okay, well, I quite like this chick, so I'm going to carry on. Sweet as, see you later. You're doing both of us a favour. It wasn't quite like that, but, you know, but a lot of shame, you know, and self-disgust again. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But you can drink your way through that. You can, and I did. You know what I mean? That's the truth of it. I did. But that's the loop. Yes. That is also the loop. And then you do something else stupid. Yes, I need to go. And you just drink your way through that as well.

6:34Mike Minogue:Right, so the drink is. Before you know it, you're 39. Yeah. So the drink is a way to combat those feelings of self-loathing. Yes. Right, okay. Absolutely. Is there ever a point? 100%.

6:45Keyzie:It's an escape. Yeah. It's an escape from your head. A temporary... Reprieve. Yes, but you become the person that you always thought you would be. Yes. There's a couple of hours in there where you're sort of the prince. Correct. And you're hard done by. And if you had my life, you'd do the same thing. Yeah, nice.

7:05Mike Minogue:Yeah, right. Is there ever a drinking experience where it's just because it's yummy? Oh, yeah.

7:12Keyzie:I mean, as I say, the best beers I ever had were when my dad was watching the footy on a Sunday afternoon and he let me have a sip of his beer.

7:25Mike Minogue:Yeah, right.

7:26Keyzie:That was like, that was great.

7:28Mike Minogue:Yeah, that's good stuff. But that's almost like not even about the beer though, is it? No. That's about a closeness with your father. Yes. And that's a nice time there. I remember those first beers and the taste of them back then. They don't taste like that anymore because I think I've murdered my taste buds. but the same with cigarettes, the way they tasted the first time you smoked cigarettes. I still... The first beer I had was fucking horrendous. Was I? I had to drink through it. That's what everybody has to do. Yeah, okay, good. I couldn't drink through it, so I had to drink wine. All my mates were drinking beer.

7:57Jesus. And I was drinking wine because I just couldn't drink. I just hated the taste so much.

8:01Mike Minogue:Were you way more steamed than they were? We were all... Steamed. Power chucking. Yes. Yeah. Good stuff. But I do, by the end, by the time I was 16, I was doing three bottles of wine. 16. Yeah. Live in there. Yeah, live in there. Live in the dream. Totally, man. Marquee Vu or Shandon, actually, the white one. If you buy me the pink one, then you own it. The best time of your life.

8:23Keyzie:You know, and I remember going - In a packet of tea and ciggies. I still have this really clear vision in my head of going to a party when I was 16 with all my mates from school, round to one of my mates' place in the weekend, and his parents were away, and we fucking hooked in. To each other? No, to the booze. and the beersies. And I'll never forget like four or five of my mates just chundering at the same time off the veranda. Nice. Just all through it because they were steamed and they couldn't handle their piss and they just went. But it's cool though. Not me though. I just fucking pounded through it.

8:58Keyzie:This is the life, man. And then I had sex with someone. One of the boys. What was his name?

9:04Mike Minogue:I still remember when I was like probably 16. Then I had sex with someone. Because I'm a fucking legend While everyone else is throwing up I was handling my piss While he was bent over the balcony I still remember when I was 16 Might have even been 15 Probably not But I stole some alcohol Classic from the liquor cabinet Yes And I stole Baileys And Kalu Yeah Mix those up No, no Just like I remember My nan giving me a taste of her Baileys And being like Oh yum Yeah And then I was just like So you obviously just drink the yummy alcohols Yes And it's just like We drank half of it. We were just like chundering.

9:39Mike Minogue:It was so milky and disgusting.

9:41Keyzie:I've told you this before, you guys. This was fucking legendary. At our school, me and my mate Marty, and there was a younger fella who, I told you, ended up robbing a bank further down the line. Oh, yeah. Backbone. And we all got together. It was like 11 o 'clock at night, and this particular guy said, hey, why don't I go into Matron's room, because she's a massive piss head, and steals some of her booze. And we were like, good idea, man, do that. Yeah, man. And so he stole this bottle of booze from her drinks cabinet. What was it? Oh, I'll tell you. We went up the mountain. It was a bottle of creme de moth.

10:21Keyzie:Oh, is this Mount Eden? No, it's Mount St. John, I think it's called. Oh, yeah, it's over there, yeah, yeah. And I had this clear vision. We were all sculling from it. It was fucking disgusting. It's medicine, isn't it? Yeah, it was disgusting. and I had this clear vision of my great mate Marty and the moon was behind him just doing this power chunder into the crater in Silhouette. And we were like 16 or 17 and we went to class that morning and we were fucking steamed. We were steamed. And just sitting in class just going, fucking hell, I'm really drunk and just been feeling cool though. but it was creme de menthe which is the fucking most disgusting thing you will ever Bailey's is nice it's like mint it's like mint
