0:15Keyzie:Thanks mate. Backbone. Backbone. My wife.
0:19Mike Minogue:What are we doing? I don't know. Have we got a holiday coming up? I think we do, don't we? When's Easter? Come on guys. April. April. Oh god, that's ages away. And then you've got your Easter, the early doors, and then, of course, you've got your Anzac. Yes, your Anzac. Is that after Easter, is it? Yeah, yeah. I'm going to have to actually look at my contract
0:38Keyzie:to see what sort of holidays I've got. That's April. Actually, I was talking to a fellow today who was doing some work for me. Oh, yeah. Is he a physician? No.
0:49Mike Minogue:Plastic surgeon.
0:50Keyzie:No. Oh, Steve. Is that what you mean? Yeah, Steve. And we were talking about Japan, Keezy, and he's been there many times.
1:00Mike Minogue:Oh, yeah.
1:01Keyzie:And speaks fluent Japanese as well.
1:04Mike Minogue:Really?
1:04Keyzie:Yeah, Japanese and Dutch. And he was telling me how amazing Japan was. Well, you need to organise your family trip. I know you're going there. I'm going in October. October, yeah. It's in October.
1:16Mike Minogue:So I'll give you my dates, man. You're probably out of leave, aren't you? Well. Yeah, you're working through, right through.
1:23Keyzie:Yeah, yeah, I probably am out of leave, actually. We'll see how we go, fellas. But it's important. I may have more leave than I know what to do with at some point. You may.
1:31Mike Minogue:I think, Jase, it's important to have something on the horizon. Yes. Just to keep a weather eye on. Yeah. Are you going anywhere this year? Don't know. There's a few things that fall into place, Keezy. I don't know. Don't know. I mean, I certainly won't be going overseas. Yeah, right. No. Got a lot of work to do, Keezy, man. You know how it is, brother. Yeah. I feel like you need to go to Europe again. I'd like to go to Fiji, just back to Fiji. Yeah, sure. I like that. Maybe a little bit earlier, but just with a kid. With a kid, yeah. But I'd go for shorter. It was too long last time. She started getting entitled.
2:05You can see how a kid gets spoiled. Fuck her now. Yes. Fuck her now.
2:10Keyzie:Because, I mean, what about Aussie? There's some places in Aussie. I mean, you know Aussie well. There'd be some good places to just chill. I would do that, but I wouldn't do it sober, to be honest with you. Yeah, yeah. I'd do it with my missus. I probably wouldn't take my kid. Yeah, okay. Not yet. The other thing about Aussie. But we're probably going to Aussie, so that's a holiday, isn't it?
2:29Mike Minogue:Yeah, we're going to Magic Round or whatever. But the other thing about Aussie is it's way more expensive. Like living in Aussie than coming on holiday in New Zealand is awesome because they earn way more money than us. That's right. Yes. And then with the money we earn, you go over to Aussie, everything's really fucking expensive, and it's real similar to New Zealand. It is. So I don't find it's that great, unless it's Magic Round.
2:49Keyzie:I've always enjoyed it.
2:50Mike Minogue:Yeah, but you're so wealthy. Have you been to Sydney? Yeah, and I love Sydney. I've got friends over there. Sydney's good. Sydney is, for me, miles better than Brisbane, like where we go for Magic Ground, right? You're going there because something's on. You would never go there, really, for any other reason. I go to Brisbane to watch footy. Yeah, but Sunshine Coast is great. Newster and all that, that's great.
3:10Keyzie:I was just about to say that I'm less of a fan of Sydney and more of a Melbourne fan. You're a Melbourne, yeah, yeah.
3:16Mike Minogue:See, I've only done Melbourne for 48 hours for a work thing. Yes. But everyone's like, no, Melbourne's way better than Sydney. And I love Sydney. I only went there. I've spent little bits of time there. I went for, what did I go for? Shit. Oh, the Boxing Day test. Right, yeah. Boxing Day test. And I was smashed on it. And then the worst hangover of my life. Really? I couldn't shake it. It went for like three days. Wow. You didn't drink through it? But I didn't get, no, I couldn't. And dude, I'm all about that. Yes. Yeah. So I'm the poster boy for that shit. I couldn't. Yes. Drink through it. I was rooted.
3:52You were horrible. I really buggered it up.
3:54Mike Minogue:Do you know when your biggest hangover ever was? Oh, I've had some shockers. No, no, you would have had the worst ones in the world anyone's ever had. Eight number one. Eight number one. Do you remember one specific one? Because I remember one, and it probably doesn't compare to you guys, but it was when I was studying and we'd been on the piss for like three straight days or something. And then on the third morning, after the third night of doing it, I was just like vomiting blood in the toilet. Yeah. And it was just like nothing was coming out and all I could do was heave for like two, three hours.
4:22Keyzie:That's pretty serious if you're vomiting blood. I've never vomited blood. Neither. I remember being so hungover because we had a flat with all the boys and getting obliterated drunk and then the next day on the Sunday there, getting stoned. And I've never liked smoking weed. And I got stoned and I was so stoned. You know when you're just glued to the couch and that's you cooked. And in my head I was just thinking, and also you're just trying to get to the end of the day so you can go to bed, you're killing time to go to bed. And I was thinking, if I go to sleep, I think I'll die. I'm so stoned that I don't think I'll wake up.
4:55Yeah, yeah. I can still, that's, what's that? Almost 40 years ago, 30 years ago, 30 years ago, and I can still remember where I was sitting, what that lounge looked like, and that feeling of, I can't go to sleep or I'll die.
5:10Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show Podcast
5:17Keyzie:I've told Mogi about this particular time I don't know if I've told you You just confided in him and not me
5:22Mike Minogue:No, but it was
5:23Keyzie:It was When I was doing a film And But But In the schedule for the film And I won't say what film it was I think you'd say what film it was before It was I was scheduled for the very end of the film Can I ask if it was that text one? Maybe. And it was like three or four days at the end of filming, Keezy. And actually my wife had gone away with the kids to the farm or some mates. And some of the fellas came around and we went on a bit of a bender, really, I think it's fair to say, for about three days. How good. Right? And it was about five o 'clock in the afternoon. This is many, many years ago.
6:09Keyzie:And I was steamed. The phone rang. And my agent rang me and I was like, how are you, Jason? Oh, it's been a busy day. And she said to me, oh, because they've changed the schedule and they want you to film tomorrow. And I was like, oh, because I knew I was in for a monumental hangover once I stopped. And I was like, and I lost my shit. I was like, what? What? The other thing was I had heaps of script and I hadn't learnt any lines. And so I was steamed at five o 'clock and I had to be up in Manukau the next morning at like six o 'clock in the morning. What did you do? It was fucking horrific. Yeah, that's a good time.
6:59Keyzie:And I was sweating. I got on set and I was sweating and they were trying to put make. And then I had to learn like five scenes that were all about tax. and it was a fucking nightmare. And that hangover was – how I got through that day, I will never know. Pugs, I can tell you the name of that movie. Can we find those scenes?
7:21Mike Minogue:And just analyse how hungover you were. And put them up on social. I can see why you never won Actor of the Year.
7:28Keyzie:I've always been –
7:29Mike Minogue:I never behaved in that manner.
7:30Keyzie:I was always very professional in that sense. Like I would never normally do that. But I was – I should have been aware that it was a possibility Were you on call? No, I wasn't on call. They'd already sent the schedule out and then they just changed it all up. They literally flipped it around. Did you say that you were fucking hungover ears?
7:49Mike Minogue:No. See, I would have. No. I would have been like, no, we can't. I am going to be so fucking hungover tomorrow. It's going to be a shandler.
7:55Keyzie:But when it comes to filming, they don't give a fuck. They always want to get it done.
7:59Mike Minogue:Ah, that's how you make great art. Yeah. That's how you make serviceable content.
8:04Keyzie:And I remember just in the first scene, the first take, and my heart just pounding in my chest. You would have had a hell of a sleep the night before as well. Oh, yeah, I was sweaty. You would have been dreaming about work. You would have been dreaming you're going to miss your alarm, all that sort of stuff. God, it's good. Well, no, I didn't miss my alarm because I woke up about 3 o 'clock in a cold sweat and couldn't get back. And all my sheets were like ropes because I'd been tossing and turning.
8:28Mike Minogue:I was just twisting it. Going, fuck. Coiled rope. And you got the Oscar for that one, eh? I did, yeah. What was that movie called? Like, ah. Definitely a tax one. It had Eric Thompson in it. Yes. Why have I got thank you for your service or something like that? Something like that, yeah. Yeah. Something like that.
8:48Keyzie:Yeah, yeah, it was a shocker, man. Would you say it's a Kiwi classic? Was it actually not a bad movie? Right. It didn't. It made about$80 ,000. Wow. So I reckon it - In today's money, that's about 1.1 bill. Yeah, yeah. Oh, wow. That's pretty good. But it would have been a good movie in this day and age for sort of, you know, straight to TV.

9:11Mike Minogue:Yeah, because I remember a guy brought a DVD of it to one of our live shows, Youngfella, and you signed it. That's right. Oh, yes. Yeah, and you signed it. And I was like, oh, did you watch it? He's like, yeah. And I was like, how was it? He's like, ah, not very good. And I was like, yeah, probably. That sounds about right, wasn't it? Old film. I vaguely remember, and this was a story that was told by somebody, I can't remember who, and it may have been a lie. Maybe I dreamed it. But there was a bit of chat that it might have been a tax write-off. Yes. Yeah. Strangely enough. That it was produced for that reason.
9:42Now, not to cast aspersions against the producer.
9:44Keyzie:Because it was all about this dude in Dunedin who took on the tax department. Right. He was a developer. And were you the guy? Henderson, I think his name was. No, he was the tax guy. You were the tax guy. No, I was the accountant trying to nail his ass. Oh, right. How good. And so I had all these tax terms, Kesey, in my lines. and I was just like, oh, fuck, which I didn't make any sense to me whatsoever.
10:08Mike Minogue:And at that point you're just saying words and there's no meaning. Oh, it's stressful.
10:12Keyzie:With the make-up person coming after every take and just dabbing you down. Wiping you down. It's not packed for the rafters, I can tell you that much.
10:19Mike Minogue:But you hear about the amazing steamed performances like the fella on Jaws, right?
10:24Keyzie:By then I wasn't steamed because I stopped right there and then and just started learning lines.
10:29Mike Minogue:Could you have powered through and just stayed steamed? No. It doesn't work? No. Nah, sobering up on set's not the go at all. I can't find it, Jase. What year do you think?
10:39Keyzie:It was something like How May I Help or something. Hang on, there we go. He's had it abolished from his IMDB. That's a shame. I wonder what year that was because it seems like it would have been around 2000, wouldn't it? Yeah, maybe.
10:58Mike Minogue:Jason Hoyt movies. We're here to help. Oh, we're here to help. 2007. It wasn't even that long ago. Oh, God. 20 years. Jesus. Jason Hoyt movie and a photo of you pops up like that. Here he is. Here he is. Do I look hot? I'd already jizzed. Oh, you've got two arms on your glasses, man. What a rich guy.
11:15Keyzie:These are just a shitty old pair, Mogi. Oh, yeah. That's all right.
11:19Mike Minogue:Yeah, that's good shit, man. Show it to the camera, man. Just going to show it to the camera because this is on PooTube. Little G-Pugs. All right. It is on YouTube and it's time to sign off.
11:33Keyzie:Whose Tupperware container is that by the way? Is that yours? What have you got in there Mo? It looks like muffins. I'll tell you a secret. Last night I ordered Reburger. Yes. Got me old secret code Keezy. Keezy helped me out with that one. So I could get it discounted to zero. Go into the old credit card today. Charge me. Oh no. Charge me. So I've been on the phone today trying to organise that. Which you can imagine is an absolute piece of piss. when you ring up the guy that makes the fried chicken and the cheeseburgers and you say to him, hey, man, I've got this code, and I put an order in last night, and it went to zero, but it's been charged to my credit card, and I'm just wondering how I'd get it back.
12:15And he's like, uh. Would you like fries with that? Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
12:20Mike Minogue:Nightmare. Oh, bro, that sucks. Yeah, so anyway. It's never happened to me. Anyway, this is The Big Show, 4 or 7 weekdays, Radio Horaki. Good listening. Peace. Gratitude
