In short

The hosts’ “outro” chat covers home heating costs in New Zealand (heat pumps, panel heaters, drafts, insulation) and then segues into travel prep for Spain/London, including carry-on packing, plane comfort, and jet-lag timing.

Guests

No named guests appear; it’s just the regular hosts (including “Pugs” and “Moggy/Mogi”).

Key claims

Heat pumps left running can still produce huge bills (around $445–$450), especially in old, leaky villas with multiple room heaters. Leaving a heat pump at ~19°C for ~14–15 hours might only add about $70, so $450 is “shocking.” Gas central heating is described as “living.”

Notable examples

panel heaters in a daughter’s room and hallway “destroy” power bills (~$100/week and $120/week). Travel examples: wearing Ugg boots/trackies/hoodie on a 17-hour flight, using ChatGPT for jet-lag sleep scheduling (stay up until 2:30), and a past Japan flight where mesh shorts became uncomfortable.

0:15Keyzie:Yeah man. Yeah. Yeah.

0:17Jason Hoyte:And I've always said that as well. Yeah man.

0:20Keyzie:I, um, you're going to be behaving yourself a bit more today Pugs? What, on the outro? Yeah. That'd be good, man, because I listened to the outro last night. It was shocking. I was appalled and disgusted. It's because Keezy's gone away doesn't mean we have to resort to that kind of filth. Filth, like, immediately. Yeah.

0:38Jason Hoyte:Yeah.

0:38Keyzie:We're better than that, eh?

0:40Jason Hoyte:Yeah, totally. Yeah, we can come up with ideas outside of filth, eh? Absolutely. Yeah, but why would you?

0:44Keyzie:I mean, I prefer not to, if I'm being honest. How are we going, fellas? What a day out there. It's beautiful, isn't it? Don't you enjoy it? I'm loving it.

0:53Jason Hoyte:Sorry, Muggy. You're going to open it. No. We're just ironing out our talkover, man. And then we're straight into a massive talkover. Yeah, it's nice, isn't it, the cold mornings and going for a stroll?

1:04Keyzie:Well, it's nice when you're in the sun. Yeah, I tell you what. It's fucking freezing when you're not. The shade is shit. I didn't enjoy it. Like, my heat pump today really let me down. I was still wearing a puffer and a sweatshirt in my lounge, and I had the heat pump on.

1:20Jason Hoyte:Did you use the remote to adjust the heat pump?

1:22Keyzie:Well, yes, I put it up. Come on, I'll tell you what the last bill we got, though. It's fucking a hur of a thing. How much? It was like four or five hundy. Yeah, same. And I was like, get fucked, man. 445 bucks. I'll tell you what it is, though, Moggy. I'll tell you why. Because my daughter has her own little heater in her room. Yep. Does that ever get turned off? Nope. No. I know, didn't I chat GPT'd it to see what the story is worth? Because they say if you just leave a heat pump on, that's the go. And just leave it at a low fan and yada yada. It reckons if you had it at, I think it was 19 degrees, which is all good, for I think I put it in at 14 hours, 15 hours, it would add$70 to your bill, which is perfectly reasonable, which is why I was shocked to see the bill coming at$450.

2:15But then we've also got a wall, like my daughter's got a panel heater in her room, because it's an old villa. You know, they're fucking... Honestly, man, this is the... I know. It's not the third wheel, but it's pretty fucking close. That you live in houses that are freezing, that you have an end of the house that's, oh, we want this, don't go up the other end of the house, it's fucking freezing up there, we can't afford to heat the whole house. What do you think? It's crazy. Yes. Absolutely insane. So panel heater in that room, panel heater in our room, panel heater on the hallway. And those are the ones that absolutely fucking destroy you, Bill.

2:47Yes. It's so much money. $100 a week for power,$120 a week for power. Yeah, it is.

2:52Keyzie:It's fucking crazy. And we used to have a scenario before the heater where inside of our house was actually colder than outside. That's how insane it was. And so we'd go outside, fuck, it's cold, and then we'd go in the house and it was like, it's even fucking colder in here. But we also had the scenario of exactly that, which was having a very warm lounge with the fire crackling away there and then going to our bed and it's like fucking Antarctica down there. It's just bullshit, freezing cold. I stayed in a place where my daughter was born and they had gas central heating. Yes. And that's living.

3:37That is living. So you're going to vent through the floor in every single room. There's gas bottles in the garage or wherever they are and you just set your thermometer, your thingy, your thermostat, and that's you, man, and you are fucking T-shirt and shorts all the year round. Yeah. It was sick. And that's what every house should be like.

3:55Keyzie:I'm still, I don't know about the effect of our underfloor insulation. Whether it's doing anything. Yeah. It's probably not. I don't know. Have you got the walls done and your ceiling done? Oh, the ceiling's done, yes. Floor and ceiling. but also like you're talking about old villas, our house just leaks like a sieve. So what I mean by that is that I think that the hot air just goes everywhere. Drafts everywhere. Just drafts everywhere. So it just dissipates. But I was freezing my fucking balls off today.

4:33Jason Hoyte:The key is to have a tiny shoebox apartment and there's one heat pump that fills the whole thing up in about five minutes and also have your power included in your rent. Something to be said for it. Absolutely. And then you just go hard. Yeah, crank the fuck out. Respectfully, of course.

4:48Keyzie:I'll be fucked if I'm doing that, if I'm renting my house out. You can pay for your own power. I reckon. Fucking losers. Straight into the landlord mentality. Fuck them, man. I've got rates to pay. Yeah, exactly.

5:03Jason Hoyte:The Hauraki Beach Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. 5:47I'm all ready to go.

5:48Keyzie:Don't you mean three more sleeps? Oh, yeah, three more. Fuck it. Don't you hate it when you get ahead of yourself like that? I do. I do. What was I thinking? Oh, yeah, I think I'm going to, because I'm only taking carry-on. My carry-on luggage. So good. So I have to consider carry on to Spain and then carry on to London and then I've got to go with Ryanair and they're terrible. Ah. Yeah, you often hear about them in the news, don't you? Yeah,$5, one-pound flights and all that sort of stuff, but then it's$500 for a cheque bag. You know, that sort of shit. But anyway, so I'm doing that, but I'm pretty keen to wear my Ugg boots and my trackie decks and a hoodie on the plane.

6:27Jason Hoyte:Yeah. I'm pretty keen on that. but it's a lot of room, you know what I mean? It is a lot of room and then for you to not use it when you get there. But I'm only going into, I'm sort of just checking in everywhere. I'm going, you know, just hotel, hotel. I've got two little bags plus I would have a plastic bag in the bag so that when I get off the plane in Spain I'll get changed into my Spain wears and then I'd have my plastic bag which I'm using at compression bags and I'd just chuck my UGG boots and my essential travel gears in that and it would just be a little carry bag. Yeah. Do you know what I mean?

7:02Yeah, it sounds good. It feels like it makes sense, but I also feel like I'm probably going to fuck it up somehow. I went to get my shoes, my Ugg boots, which are covered in stains and filth. Yes, so am I. How do they get so disgusting? I don't know. Coffee and fucking jizz and God knows what else is on them. Jizz on the Uggs, man. You never jizzed on your Uggs.

7:22Jason Hoyte:I don't know Uggs, but if I did, I'd jizz on them. Yeah, man. For sure, man. That's how you break them in.

7:28Keyzie:My Uggs My Uggs Pugs aren't used to be brown Now they're like snow white It's because of all the jizz

7:42So anyway I took them in to get dry cleaned She said oh Here we go Yes Here we go I don't know if we can get those stains out It's like do your best man And she said oh It'll probably take three weeks to get them done I'll see you later then We've got an extra jizz fee for the oaks I don't know what you want to do in the man So I'll just put them through the washing machine They're sweet ears

8:04Keyzie:Yeah And it's really important too You mentioned a very important point in terms of Particularly when you're doing a massive trip Yes Comfort on the plane I think it's a biggie Yeah it is 17 hours Yes Then I've got a couple of hours Then 6 hours Then a couple of hours And then 3 hours Because I have this sort of mentality when I go out is to make myself look presentable. Do you? But then it's like, okay, I'm going to be on a plane. Who gives a fuck? Yes. So actually, let's go comfort. And I see, particularly amongst the young people, sort of my daughter's age, you know, who are kind of well-travelled and all that sort of shit, they've nailed the attire for planes.

8:49Right.

8:50Keyzie:Very comfortable, very loose, very relaxed. so that you're not sort of pulling your undies out of your ass. Oh, no undies. And your balls are getting crushed by your tailor-made jeans.

9:02Jason Hoyte:One mistake I made when I flew to Japan, which was about nine hours from Fiji. Was making those horrendous racists, you know, when you're doing that Japanese accent. Yeah, yeah. When you're asking for another Asahi. Yeah, yeah. Oh, that was shocking. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. No, I was wearing, I was like, oh, we're really light clothes because I tend to run pretty hot. But then I actually got pretty cold in the air con on the plane. And then also I wore Adidas real light shorts. But they were the ones that had the little mesh inner. Under courage.

9:35Keyzie:To keep your pork roast wrapped.

9:38Jason Hoyte:Yeah, to keep my pork roast intact and wrapped up. But the issue was sitting on that for nine hours actually got uncomfortable. I started to notice the mesh on my buttocks, which was slightly problematic. You wore like jersey material. Well, what I'm going to go with is I'm going to go with a hoodie. Yeah. I'm going to go with my Adidas tracky decks. Yeah, sick. That's perfect, isn't it? And then my Ugg boots. And I think I'm happy days. I've got my neck pillow. I've got to put my hoodie up. Yeah, man, nice. My eye mask. I ran it all through ChatGPT about how to acclimatise properly. You know, because you don't want to have jet lag when you get there.

10:14Yeah. So it's telling me to stay up until 2.30. So my flight leaves at 8.30. Stay up until 2.30. Then go to sleep. I only sleep for six hours, so it's given me a timeline of all the time that I need to be asleep, need to be awake and all that sort of stuff, so I get used to it quicker over there. Yeah, nice.

10:30Jason Hoyte:Kesey should have done that for his poo schedule. He should have. He should have chat GPT'd it. 100%. Are you guys generally affected by jet lag? I've not travelled enough to know. I've only been to the UK once in my life, and outside of that, I've been to the islands. Oh, and Mexico. Yes. My general vibe, though, is if you're not going to meetings, who gives a shit? Yeah, I've kind of taken that approach in this little travel that I've done.

11:01Keyzie:It hit me when I went to New York and went to a bar and literally fell asleep at the bar, but I'm not sure that was jet lagged. Yeah, that was a heroin. Yeah. Yeah, it can get you, man. And just all the chisent. You were just exhausted. Hey, Jase. It's exciting though, Mogi It is exciting, I'm looking forward to it It's going to be great Yeah, I've nearly crossed off my whole list Yeah man, good stuff Proud of you It's pretty good It's pretty good It's pretty good But just adding more stuff to it, you know Yeah

11:36Jason Hoyte:Why are you looking at me like that? You excited for Oh yeah Oh, we'll bleep that out Damn it, people don't mean to know about it

11:45Keyzie:Don't fucking talk about come too early people are going to love that by the way
