In short
Two hosts banter about weekend plans and life logistics—business dinners, sleep schedules, heartburn management, and house-hunting/open homes—ending with a promo for The Hauraki Big Show.
Guests
No guests appear; only the two hosts are speaking (including “Keezy” and “Raw Doggett” mentioned in promos).
Key claims
Better sleep comes from going to bed later (moving from ~9:30–10:00 to ~10:30–11:00) and maintaining a ~6–7 hour sleep window. Heartburn improves with Gaviscon, but they joke it’s “grim” and should prompt a doctor visit.
Notable examples
Japanese restaurant beers and hot sake; Gaviscon “slug” routine at night; open homes where one house is too small and another is a 1960s “shambles” needing major work (possible asbestos).

0:15Keyzie:Or Gilly Flowers.
0:20Hello. How are we going team? We did it man. It was great stuff. Going good man, going good. Excellent. Real good. Had a big weekend. Damn it. On the steam? On the hammer. Oh, that's right. You had your business dinner. I had my business dinner, which wasn't really a business dinner, but I'll tell you what.
0:35Keyzie:No, you were meeting a mate, weren't you? Yeah, I met a mate. Bed by 1.30. Oh, that's bad for Mogey. It's too far past midnight.
0:44Mike Minogue:Yeah. The way he sold it was, I'm going to a thing with like-minded business people to talk about business. That's how he sold it to us. That's not true, but it's great. It's just People that I It's just a different group of people And then I was like Come on come He's like sorry Do you run a business? Sorry have you got a business? Or have you got even any business ideas? Any instincts for business? Then I was like I run a media business And I file It's not the same Where's the office? Where's your office? Where is it? Exactly And so you were banned From that Is there a sole trader party I could go to?
1:22Can I come to that? No I'm a sole trader too
1:24Mike Minogue:Are you? So where was that?
1:26Keyzie:That sat-dee or friday? That was on your sat-dee there. But what I did first was I went out to a local Japanese because after I had Japanese the other night, Engelbert. Engelbert night. I wanted some more, man. I hadn't had enough. So I went out and had another beer, one beer and another thing of hot sake. Yeah. Shit, it's good, man. You should go to Japan. No, I don't know about that. I just can't do the sake. I just can't do it. No, well, you don't do it. Well, exactly. But even when I did do it, I couldn't do it. Yeah, I know. I was just like, oh. When was the last time you had sake, though?
1:54Keyzie:Yeah, I love it. delicious. Well over 20 years ago, Kesey, to be honest. But on the bright side, my throat issues since I've gone away, I've smoked my way through it. Oh, you smoked? Yeah. So my body telling me I need to give up smoking and here's a really bad throat so that you can stop smoking, because why would you smoke with a bad throat like this? I smoked through that, and I'm out the other side. Yeah, well, your body learns, doesn't it? Well, yeah. It's like beating it into submission, right? So when I'm lying in my bed 10 years from now, my wife's going... Your oxygen on the side there.
2:34Keyzie:This is what it'll be. Yes. Yeah.
2:36Mike Minogue:Worth it, though, for the business dinner. Oh, it was good. It was good.
2:40Keyzie:Yeah, yeah. Well, interestingly, in terms of when to go to bed, my wife on Friday night said, maybe we're going to bed too early. I went to bed really early. Because we're... You keep waking up early, right? Yeah, it's like our sleep is terrible at the moment, both of us. And we went, okay, well, let's stay up. From now on, we're going to stay up later every night. So what's too early? Well, we've been going to bed. We go to bed sort of 9.30, caught to 10. Okay, so 10.30? So 10.30, caught to 11 is the new time. How'd it go? Pretty good. Well, there you go. Pretty good. Well, I still wake up early, but it's not 2 in the morning.
3:20Keyzie:You know what I mean? It's 2.45 to 3. It's four in the morning. You know what I mean? So it's because we've worked out that we've got a certain amount, a window of time for sleep. Six hours? Yeah, about six or seven. So if you started going to bed at midnight, I would wake up at, yeah, six, seven.
3:40Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast.
3:48Keyzie:But then on that first night, we woke up at eight. Whoa. At eight. A.M. A.M. A.M. A.M. A.M. Wow. That's amazing. Yeah, it's very good. That's a huge bastard. It's a fucking horror of a sleep. And I tell you what also made a huge difference for me, the old gaffer scone. Oh, you're still on the gaffer scone? Well, I haven't been on it for months. Right. And then I had a scull of that and the old burning stops. You've got to get yourself off to the doctor, man. You shouldn't be having this much burning. Yeah, I know. For the amount of food you eat, although all you eat is hot pot. Yeah. And what else?
4:21And Asian food. Yeah.
4:22Keyzie:And eat a noodle. What if that's it? Because it's not right. And when I was having it, and I was Gavisconned up to the eyeballs, it's not enjoyable. No, it's painful at times. What it is when you're sleeping and it wakes you up. Yeah. And you're like, oh, burning my nussels. Exactly. And I had like a litre bottle of Gaviscon on my bedside table and I just wake up and take a slug out of it. Fuck, that's gross. It's grim. And it tastes like a slug too. It does. And it's got the white stuff that dribbles down the side of it turns into a crust down the side of it. Yeah. Oh, it's grim. That is so good.
4:56How was your weekend, Keezy? You seem like you're filthy.
5:01Mike Minogue:My weekend was...
5:02Keyzie:Oh, because you were looking for houses.
5:04Mike Minogue:Yeah, we just went open homing. It was okay. Didn't see anything that went, there she is. No, we saw one that was pretty good, but then we were like, oh, it's too small. Yeah. Basically, I would have to... You can't shoehorn yourself into liking it. No. And I would have had to get rid of my motorbike and barely even fit my little truckie in the shed there. No good. And then there'd be no room to put any of my tools or anything. I was just like, we're trying to make this house work, but it's not going to work.
5:34Keyzie:It's interesting, isn't it, when you're trying to do that? And then we went to - You're finding reasons to make it work, and then you're like, actually, what are we doing?
5:41Mike Minogue:Yes. And then we went to another house, which is the kind of house I would have loved if I was like five years younger. Massive West Auckland Where the bottom Is all garage It's all just big And it's a brick house The top Is all the bedrooms And the lounge and stuff Looking out And the bottom Is like Two big garage doors And the whole bottom Is emptied out Yeah And so you could park Like ten cars under there Right But the whole thing Was in its original decor From the 60s Oh yeah And Nan and Pop Had certainly let it go Right And so I walked in there And I was like Oh my god This would take so much Fucking work Oh really But it's just too I can't be fucked with it
6:15Keyzie:Yeah So much, guys.
6:16Mike Minogue:And smoke it.
6:17Keyzie:And they probably smoke like a million durries in the joint. 100%. Yellow roofs.
6:22Mike Minogue:I was like those ceiling tiles, asbestos. I was like that lining there, asbestos. It was just a fucking shambles. But it would have been fun, though.
6:29Keyzie:When I was lying in bed this morning with my wife.
6:34Mike Minogue:Slugging your gaviscord?
6:35Keyzie:No, no. I only have it once at night just before I go to bed. Every night? Not every night.
6:40Mike Minogue:Do you brush your teeth after that?
6:42Keyzie:Yes. Hot pot night? Yes. And I said to my wife, because I was, you know, as you do when you wake up in the morning, your brain turns on and you're pondering life. And I said to my wife, so are we done with our old house? And she was like, what do you mean? And I said, so are we never going back? And she said, no. Yeah, great. No, we're not, I don't think. That's a good realisation. Oh, okay. Yeah. Oh, gee. Are you going to sell it? I just wanted to know, you know what I mean? because it was floating in my head and I was going, oh, I wonder. And if we did go back, would that feel like a defeat?
7:21Keyzie:I think it would. A backward step. Well, you love where you are. Why would you consider going back? Well, yeah, but, you know, it's a rental and it all changes. It might be changed by the end of the year. Yeah, but there's heaps more out there. You've got to love it. Yeah, I think so. And so.
7:35Mike Minogue:Do you reckon you'll sell your old house? No, not at this point. Just keep it. Yeah, may as well, eh? Yes. Oh, that's exciting for you, though.
7:41Keyzie:But I also felt kind of sad. Yeah. I was like, no. Oh, okay. We're not going back. End of an era. Yeah. End of an era. And excited at the same time. Yeah, excited, definitely.
7:54Mike Minogue:My wife's the same with our current house. She's like, it's so nice. And you've, because I did all the renovations basically. She's like, you've done so much work. Are you sad? And I was like, yeah, I'm sad. And then I go and see a house that we could have that's got an en suite and a double garage. And you go, fuck yeah, baby. Yeah, fuck my old house. This old shit, you could have it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It is amazing. Once you've got that thing and you know what you're heading towards, then it changes your mindset. Oh, totally. But we don't have that. It's doing that thing that allows you to move on to the next thing.
8:21So you're grateful for it, but, yeah, you can't live there forever.
8:23Mike Minogue:But the interesting thing about the way my brain works, and my wife too, I've found out, is we don't like knowing what we're going to. I want to know where we're going. Sure. And so my brain struggles with it. Yes. And hers does as well. And so at the moment we are selling our house and are going to rent, maybe, if we can't find a house in time. Yeah. Don't know what the house looks like. I don't know if I'm renting or owning. It's really wreaking havoc on the old upstairs. The old noggin. Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Go through waves of being uncertain and confident and uncertain again. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
8:52Mike Minogue:It's very interesting.
8:53Keyzie:I think that's a natural phenomenon of moving on because we were, you know, like when we were looking to rent, we were like, what are we doing?

9:01Mike Minogue:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
9:02Keyzie:But then you do it and it's great. And then you do it and you go, oh, why didn't we do that before?
9:05Mike Minogue:And we could pill pin, stay there, and then we'd have very, very short-term happiness, very short-term. Like, oh, okay, thank God all that's over. But then immediate regret, I think. Oh, totally. Yeah. Isn't life interesting? You'll find something. Piece of piss. You're totes, man. You reckon, man? I mean, worst case scenario. You end up renting. I'll rent Jace's old house. No, well, that's. No, that would be. Well, that would be worst case. Worst case. But somebody else has already got that. I mean, it would be a step up for you, for sure.
9:34Keyzie:But I mean. Your old house. Yeah, totes. I doubt it. I'd go to step up and then I'd fall through the deck. Fall through the floor, yeah. Yeah, totally. Oh, life, eh? Oh, life, eh? Oh, life, fellas. There he is. There he is.
