In short

The episode is a live-style golf recap from Windross Farm golf course in Clevedon, Auckland, near Ardmore Airport, with banter about wealthy clientele, helicopters, and the “mad bastards” Big Show community. Guests are Keezy (Keezer/Mogey), Jace, Mike, and Jerry (who leaves for 7 Sharp), plus Minaya. Backgrounds: Keezy and Mogey are longtime Big Show personalities; Jerry is a co-host who also does 7 Sharp; Jace and Mike are co-hosts.

Key claims

none of ~40 players nailed a putt beyond five feet; putting “like a genius” (citing Chasing the Fox) wins; the match was four-on-four with no handicaps; Beck kept score and Windross CEO double-checked. Examples: Ardmore flight lessons for father and Norm Mogi; older-male clientele means fewer trees; one drive “down the gut” and “bogey every hole.”

0:00Keyzie:For all you mad bastards loving the Big Show podcast, get up even closer on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok or Raw Dog It. 4 to 7 every weekday on Radio Hoda Aircare. Oh, g'day you mad bastards. Hello. G'day Fjellas there. Isn't this beautiful? We're sitting in Windroth's farm golf course. just looking at the people coming in on the 18th hole. It's a very nice set-up, that blood here.

0:32Mike Minogue:It is lovely.

0:33Keyzie:Very, very pleasant.

0:35Mike Minogue:Very wealthy area, Windross Farm, right next to the Ardmore Airport out in Clevedon in Auckland. Oh, yes, is it? It's where all the... Yeah, Ardmore's just over here, which is why there's so many helicopters flying over here. Tell me about Ardmore. I know nothing about it. If you're a big rock star, you fly into Ardmore sometimes. Sometimes. And do you stay out here as well? I don't think so. Right. But this is where if you've got like a private plane or a private, I don't know about private jet, but if you've got a plane and you're an enthusiast that has these hangars you can store your planes in.

1:06Keyzie:I think this is where my father and Norm Mogi learnt to fly at Ardmore. Right. They do flying lessons and stuff. But this whole area, she's all primo farmland, so she's some pretty wealthy farm folk. Yeah, we're just looking around the room at the people that aren't us or are not Horeki adjacent. And, yeah, it looks like there's a few bucks there.

1:27Mike Minogue:Yeah, definitely. 100%. I don't know how many backbones there are here. Put it that way. No, no. Obviously four sitting at the hodaki table there.

1:37Keyzie:I've had a bit of a revelation. I was just telling Keezy before, Mogi, because we're right on the 18th green. I've watched probably now about 40 people putting, and no one has nailed a putt. Not one person, more than five foot. You know what I mean? Putting is the key, I believe, to golf. It is the key. Putt like a genius, you'll save yourself a world of pain. Right.

1:59Mike Minogue:Well, that was interesting because that's what Jerry was saying with last year's Chasing the Fox, where it was Jerry, Dye, Henwood, and Mark Richardson. He was saying, Mark, the difference, because they won. They won Chasing the Fox. Yes. The difference was Mark's ability for someone to putt first and then go, oh, the line's doing slightly this. And then he was like, so do you think I should aim here? They'd say yes, and then he would sink the putt every time. Right. Yeah. Putting like a genius, apparently. Well, of course, this is quite interesting, isn't it? Because I've come out, I've been working all day, not here, and I've come out much later.

2:31You guys got out here at 10 a.m. Yes. With a 10.42-ish tea time. That's right. And I've just been working all day, so I haven't been across. Well, to be fair, our chat was completely silent. Yep. And then I just messaged. You said, when are you going to get here, Mogey? And I said, fucking hours away. Managed to get here for two. I said, look, I've got no idea what's going on at all. I haven't looked at Instagram or anything like that. So maybe record my reaction when I arrive. Yes. And then when you break the news to me. Now, I walked through the door. And, of course, nobody answered my messages.

3:05I sent three messages. I got no answers.

3:07Mike Minogue:So what I thought you said was record my reaction for on the show. So I told everyone in the building not to say anything to you. Ah, I meant a video. No, no, no. This is content for the show. Yeah, right, right. So I still don't know who's won. Yeah. And for anyone that isn't aware, the loser, once again, will have to cover the other person's show. The other person's show. Final show of the year. That's right. And I'm very excited about it because, and I don't care what the result is, but what I'm very happy about is that we managed to at least convince you, Keezer, you didn't want to be involved in it.

3:39I didn't want to be involved in it. To at least try. Yeah. I cannot stomach not trying at all. I'd rather get our asses kicked than run away from these assholes with our tails between our legs, even though there's nothing I could do to affect the score. But you've got to be in to win.

3:54Mike Minogue:And you're right, they are assholes. They're massive, massive assholes. And, of course, my dream is, and I'm not looking at either of you while I talk because I don't want to look for any kind of clues at all, but my huge dream would be that we win, that we get to do a compilation of all the shit chat that they were doing, the arrogant way with which they were talking about how they were going to dominate. Just like never even occurs to them. They're not a million times better than you guys by any stretch of the imagination. Certainly not. But the manner in which they were so arrogant. And most of the time the one being arrogant too is my dear friend Benio.

4:29Mike Minogue:He's a shocking bastard. He's a shocking bastard.

4:32Keyzie:I mean, it was getting deep inside my gut. You know what I mean? It's like, you're a shocking player. Don't be giving me shit, man.

4:41Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki. So win, lose or draw, I'm glad that we participated. And even if we lose, I get to do two shows. I get to do a breakfast show at the end of the year. We get to do it, obviously, together. So, yeah, I'm looking forward to it, no matter what. The other thing, too, just for those listening on the podcast, is Jerry has had to run off to 7 Sharp. So he's left. And so we did an official announcement of the result, which we will play out at the start of our show with Minaya and Jerry.

5:16Mike Minogue:So we recorded that prior to you arriving, Mike. And then I guess the break following that, we will reveal to you the result. We'll figure out a way to do it. Sorry, what is it? You're going to play out what? So we've already recorded Jerry's and Minaya and mine and Jase with the official announcement. So we fixed that before Jerry had to leave for 7 Sharp. So it will be revealed in that break. It will be revealed in that break, and maybe you don't listen. And then in the following break, we will tell you, and then it's almost like a reaction of a, you know, yeah, we'll figure it out. But it was important to do it while Gerry was here, because he had to leave.

5:50Oh, right, well, that's interesting. Okay, yeah, because, of course, you were paired off separately.

5:54Mike Minogue:That's right. Oh, right. And the interesting thing was, it was Jase and I and our playing partners, our two winners, Joe and Kurt. Joe and Kurt. Shucks and Kurt. Shucks, yeah. and it was all four of us, Ambrose. Oh. So it was really interesting. Yeah, that took me by surprise. It was really interesting. And it was no handicaps, nothing like that. It was just straight up four of us versus the four of them.

6:19Keyzie:Right. Okay. It was really interesting. Wow. I thought it was going to be two on two. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 100%. And then that's why I was like, oh, we're doing all four of us, are we? Okay. Yeah, right.

6:29Mike Minogue:But it was really, really great. Really exciting as well. Yeah, it was awesome. How good? So at the end you don't know. That's great. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And do you have people going around with you sort of keeping score, et cetera? Beck kept score, and the CEO of Windross also double-checked everything and made sure it was correct. That's right. It's good stuff, isn't it? Well, that's bloody good. It was exciting, and there's nothing like – because when you're playing golf, usually it's me and Jase, and then he'll try to part and then obviously fuck it up or whatever. Then I'll be like, oh, it's hard luck, mate.

6:58Mike Minogue:Yeah. But then there's four of you standing around, one of you parts and sinks one from two metres away, and everyone's like, yeah, high five. or one person does an excellent drive and everyone's really stoked about it. Yeah, yeah.

7:11Keyzie:And it's a beautiful course, actually. It's a lot flatter than we used to, and it's a nice little set up here, sort of nestled amongst all the farmland. She's a tussocky bastard. Yes.

7:22Mike Minogue:Very tussocky.

7:22Keyzie:You can still lose the ball very easily, mate. Oh, look.

7:26Mike Minogue:One of the biggest giveaways, too, as to the clientele of a golf course, which is on a download, is if you have an older male sort of clientele, which is what it tends to be, which is exactly what this is, you'll have way less trees on a golf course because every board meeting is like, we need to cut down these trees because they're pissing me off. Yeah, I keep hitting it into that tree. This place has no trees at all. It's just wide open, which I really like. Yeah, but it was a good day. I got burnt.

7:55Keyzie:Yeah, I got badly burnt. Oh, yeah. Well, it was a hot bath. I didn't put on any sunblock either. so you know your wife will be furious she will be pissed off with me she hates it when I do that sort of stuff I mean my father never wore bloody sunblock all his life yeah now they're hacking bits out of him yeah well exactly there you go you know what I mean yeah all the cancers that's so cool man yeah that's really fun

8:17Mike Minogue:it's good we should use this bit for the podcast outro clip on the show I think so yeah yeah cancer chat

8:24Keyzie:a real doozy

8:25Mike Minogue:how was it getting back out on the course though Jase oh yeah of course

8:28Keyzie:it was really nice yeah yeah And it's nice to have a swing. I was a little bit tense on my first drive there, Mogey. Drilled it down the centre. Down the gut. Oh, did you? You went about 30 metres directly down the gut.

8:40Mike Minogue:30 metres. Well done. 25. 25. And the good thing about Jase, it's just copy and paste, old man golf, dead straight, dead straight, dead straight. Pretty much bogey every hole, but just dead straight. Not very far. Can't argue with bogey. Shit, no.

8:53Keyzie:No, I'm happy with a bogey. You know what I'm saying? Bloody good.

8:57Mike Minogue:Yeah. Righto, well that feels about 10, doesn't it? Yeah. 7.5, is that 7.5? I have no idea. Zoe, if you could just fire off the music there. Yeah, there we go, that sounds like it was 10 minutes.

9:08Keyzie:Yeah, that's definitely 10 minutes, I'm looking at my clock. I might get a coffee. Yeah, I think so.

9:12Mike Minogue:I've had a couple of beers there, and obviously I need to sharpen up ahead of the live show.

9:16Keyzie:Doos, doos, doos.

9:17Mike Minogue:Hey, listen to the big show, 4 to 7 weekdays on Radio Hauraki. It's good listening.
