In short
Weekend catch-ups and “hur of a mood” banter on The Hauraki Big Show, plus practical talk about home/rental plans, tradie issues, and upcoming travel/golf.
Guests
No formal guests; it’s the host crew (Mogey, Hoody J, Jase, Kesey/Keezy) chatting.
Guest backgrounds
Mogey and Hoody J are regular co-hosts; Jase and Kesey/Keezy are regular personalities, sharing personal life and work stories (property, cars, family, sports).
Key claims
Jase had a “very nice weekend” (hike, shopping, movie about Richard Burton, rugby, work, intimacy, builder news). Deck/insulation problems need fixes; a builder suggests removing the lower deck level and framing the top. Kesey fixed his truckie with his dad’s help; “what would Jace do?” helps him say yes to plans.
Notable examples
Movie “Burton” (about Richard Burton) starring Toby; rugby match Bay vs Canterbury; golf in Wellington near Lowell Bay/Parrot Dog.

0:22Mike Minogue:Over the weekend. Yep. And can I just, before you get into this, I'm getting her of a mood vibe so I'm interested in how you're doing. Oh, that's interesting because that was when I said to you, what do you think the first line in this podcast is going to be? Hur of a weekend. I thought the first line was going to be, Jase is in a hur of a mood. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it's ended up being the third line of the podcast.
0:42Keyzie:Yeah, yeah, okay. I'm not in a hur of a mood. Right. I had a very nice weekend. If I'm in a hur of a mood, it's because I'm here having to work. Yeah.
0:50Mike Minogue:It's hard yakka this. You know what I mean?
0:52Keyzie:Yeah. But no, very nice. What did we do? Saturday morning, went for a huge hike. Where'd you go? You're loving your walks, man. Yeah. We're finding all sorts of different walkways out west, which was really good. Then we went and did some shopping, and then my wife's mum came over to stay. We went out for dinner. Then we went to a movie. Then we came home. What'd you see? Oh, you've got to save it. Burton. Is it called Burton? Is it about Richard Burton? It's about Richard Burton. Any good? Yeah, it's pretty good. Who's in it? Not Richard Burton, I'm assuming. Toby. Oh. He's in fucking everything.
1:33Keyzie:I always wanted to say Leech, but that's a New Zealand actor. Not that little weird-looking bastard. Yeah, yeah, Toby. Who's he playing? He's playing Philip Burton, who was his kind of mentor. Oh, yes. Yes. But I'll talk about that later. Yesterday. A rugby man? Oh, yes, yesterday, rugby, of course. Yes. Effin and Jeffin a little bit at times on that. Then we went out shopping again. What do you think the problem is there, man? We just haven't found our fluidity yet, Mogi. I think it's the international rules, to be honest with you, man. And I'm still not convinced about Razor yet, to be honest.
2:13Keyzie:But anyway, and then we went out and stuff, made love in the afternoon, did some work around the place, and a builder came over, gave us a hell of a fucking news about all the shit we need to do. It's really fucking pissed me off. I actually looked at our new place. It's got a good amount of storage underneath, but it's not a room. It is a little bit of a room, but you can also see underneath the house. Yes. And, yeah, all the plastic's all over the ground. Yeah. Plastic covered on the ground, and then it goes sort of, would it be 150 mil up each of the piles? Yeah, as well. and then it's taped off to stop the moisture coming through, which is a good way to preserve your investment anyway, your property, but it's a pain in the ass if you have to do it and you can't be fucked.
2:59Keyzie:Well, we were just annoyed that the guys that put the insulation in on the floor didn't sort of mention that to us. You'd think they would, eh? They'd go, oh, are you going to do the ground as well?
3:07Mike Minogue:Did you tell them you were going to rent it out? Yes, we did actually. Yeah, that's weird. Well, I had some men in over the weekend as well and they don't always hit your expectations, your hopes, your dreams. Sure. You know?
3:22Keyzie:Generally, I'd say generally I'm pretty happy with the tradies and the stuff they've done around my place. But good news is we've got a solution, we think, for our deck. Ah.
3:34Mike Minogue:So is it the front deck? Spar pool.
3:36Keyzie:Well, it's kind of at the side of the house.
3:38Mike Minogue:Right, okay. And it's rotten.
3:40Keyzie:That's the front of the house. Then there's a lounge and there's a sun lounge and it's off the sort of sun lounge.
3:46Mike Minogue:And it's a bit fucked, isn't it? It's totally fucked. Yeah, okay. What are you doing, man?
3:50Keyzie:Well, because it's two-tiered, the builder who did our bathroom stuff, and he's a good bastard, he said, what I think you should do is get rid of the lower level completely, just remove it, and it's pretty close to the ground anyway, and you can put whatever you want down there. Oh, yeah. And just keep this top level, give it a bit of a water blast, and then put a frame around it. Oh, yeah. And just frame it off. Sweet. So that's actually probably a good solution.
4:16Mike Minogue:Oh, that's great, man. Can't wait to come see it. Yeah. You have to rent it out. You're looking for a new place, Cesar. Yeah. I'm looking to rent a place out further out west.
4:26Keyzie:Reconfiguring our dreams and things at the moment. We just have to wait for a certain few things to drop. How are they looking? They're looking good. We just have to wait for a few things to drop. Yes. Before we pull the trouble. We need to know. Yes. I made that error as well, actually, moving into this year. I thought a few things would happen that didn't, and I made a few plans. according to the plans that I thought would happen, then they didn't happen, and I found myself having to deal with the plans I'd made. Correct. Sadly. Yes.
4:56Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast.
5:04Keyzie:Ultimately, I mean, we really want to move out. Yes. But ultimately, there is no full-on rush, but we've got plans. We just have to wait. I'll say, especially when you've been talking about it for this long now, you get excited about it. Yes. You know, well, I don't want to put it on the back burner. Well, we very nearly just went, fuck it, because we found this great place we wanted to rent. And we were like, fuck it, let's just rent it. And we'll just leave our house and just move. No, that's short-term happiness. Anyway. And the right place will come up at the right time. Exactly. Kesey, how was your weekend, mate?
5:37I didn't really make love. No. I didn't think so. I didn't think you would have. Out of everything you said, that was the one thing I would pick out That was a lie.
5:44Keyzie:I did. What a fucking legend, man.
5:48Mike Minogue:I don't know what's happening.
5:49Keyzie:Have you still got it, man? I've still got it, Maggie. Yeah. Yeah, mate.
5:56Can you play the Hoity J A number one and the best in the world? Is this in reference to his love? I don't know if I'm the best lover in the world, but I'd be up there.
6:04Mike Minogue:Hoity J, best in the world, A number one. My weekend was pretty chill, fellas. Yeah, man. Tell us about your dinner, man. You fixed your truckie.
6:11Keyzie:You fixed your truckie up.
6:12Mike Minogue:Fixed my truckie, went in there, diagnosed what the issue was, ordered the part from America. It arrived three days later, went in there, installed it with my dad. Yeah. He wanted to be there for it. That's nice. Because he just likes to be involved with stuff like that. And you would want him there as well. Yeah, of course, but I didn't need him to be. It's good to have that reassurance. You get a bit defensive there, brother. What it means is now my dad was there helping me fix my truckie. Which means you were there videoing him to 100 % of it. I was videoing slash. One of us was holding a torch while the other one was fixing it.
6:41Mike Minogue:Let's just say that. Yeah, yeah. I don't know which way you guys are picturing. Yeah. Well, I think he would have wanted to let you do it. Yeah, he did. Yeah, yeah. He just wanted to let me go at it. He was just supervising. Well, he wasn't even – yeah, a little bit, but he was very much like – That's good father and son stuff, man. It is. It really was. Yeah. I guess you missed that a bit, Mogey. Well, yeah, especially God. Even since he's died, that sort of stuff just barely happens at all. Yeah. It's really robbed me of – Well, next time something's wrong with one of your really cool cars, let me know and I'll get Don to come around.
7:14Well, I'm actually in the middle of that at the moment. Can he come around and bring one of those weird battery packs for an Aqua? I just don't feel like buying another car at the moment. Do you know what I mean? Totally.
7:26Mike Minogue:Yeah. It's a pain in the ass. It is. But the good thing about your car, though, Jase, is you won't have to worry about that ever. No. Like for 20 years you could keep that car. Yes. What car has he got? Mazda Acceler. Oh, yeah. Just like a, you know, tidy japo.
7:39Keyzie:Goes like the clappers, Mogi.
7:41Mike Minogue:Yeah.
7:41Keyzie:I also learnt today about Keezy. They're actually fucking slow, yeah. My missus one's so slow. How many litres is it?
7:47Mike Minogue:Two. That he wears a G-banger. You can also get a 1.5. Oh, they're the best. They're pretty slow, though. Yeah, I wear a G-banger because as we were walking over from the car park, I had, like, kind of twisted undies. Yes. That was nice. And I was like, oh, my God, my undies are so twisted and going up my arse to shit. And he's like, oh, you're wearing a G-banger. Are you wearing a G-banger? How good's G-Banger? I think that is her. Yeah, it is. That is her. Yeah, right.
8:11Keyzie:Sorry, that was irrelevant to the listener.
8:13Mike Minogue:We were trying to decide if it was Wendy Petrie walking past the window or not. Pug said it was, we said it wasn't, and it definitely was. Yes. So, yeah, it's interesting. But, no, a very chill weekend. My parents came up to Auckland for, like, a party, and then we went out for dinner Friday night. Instead of going to the WARS, we went out for dinner with my parents, and then they came over and watched the Bay play Canterbury. Oh, you would love that, man. Saturday Arbor. Yeah, I do. I'm a family guy.
8:35Keyzie:Canterbury gave them a douching, didn't they, in the end?
8:38Mike Minogue:Canterbury did beat the Bay, yeah, but the Bay are without four of their All Blacks apparently. Right, yes. Your dad was fuming.
8:44Keyzie:I mean, we'll get it because you went to the Waz, Mogi. We'll get into that in the show maybe. Yeah. With old Charlie. Charlie, mate.

8:51Mike Minogue:And also maybe on the show as well, I want Mogi to talk us through his classic Mogi busy as weekend. Oh, yeah, it was a good busy one. Yeah. Did you go hard at the Waz?
9:03I had a few. A reasonable. Yeah, yeah, I did. I definitely did. And it was good. Yeah. It was. It was really good to get out. And I'm going to do more of that. I'm going to do more of Jace's attitude of saying yes to things. Yeah, man, it's good. And just going out and doing it. It's tricky because I've got all this shit to do. It's just also like, well, I've always got shit to do. So I'll never do anything.
9:27Mike Minogue:Yeah, yeah. I find, to be honest, in life, lately I've been like, what would Jace do? And it's been working really well for me. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

10:15Mike Minogue:I'm hung as fuck. Well, not if you do it on the day when we get down there. Well, we land at lunchtime. Oh, do we? Yeah.
10:21Keyzie:What time do we leave? I must be about 11 then. 10. Oh, that's okay. I thought it was going to be a ball-like 8 o 'clock peak traffic. I thought it was going to be 6am, yeah.
10:30Mike Minogue:So you choose to get in a hur of a mood about it before checking the time. No, I just assumed it was going to be about eight
