0:12Keyzie:4 to 7 every weekday on Radio Hodecky. Oh, g'day fellas. Hello. Yeah, man. Friday. Doesn't feel like it. Friday night. Great night for football. Oh. I'm feeling a little bit woozy, actually, from doing that little. We just filmed a video, and I was doing little runs, and I feel a bit lightheaded. When you say little, you're absolutely right. It was about three feet. So if you're woozy after that, mate, be a panic.
0:42Mike Minogue:The fittest guy on the big show. The fittest guy on the big show.
0:45Keyzie:But you're forgetting the ones that we started off with were at least 20 metres. Where, yeah, I was there as well. Four times. Pugs was piggybacking somebody during it. Yeah, I know. But that was Bec, though. She weighs nothing.
0:59Mike Minogue:Who do you reckon be heavier, Hoity J or Beck?
1:02Keyzie:Beck. I mean me. Me. Because she's tiny. I was actually just saying to pugs before, I'm eating a heap more than I used to eat back in the day, so that's good. You can show. You can see, I mean. You can tell. That's right. I'm ballooning out. But you'll be eating more because you're exercising more, aren't you, mate? Totally, totally. Before you're exercising. And I think I'm only feeling woozy because I just jiggled shit around because I was pounding the pavement doing a ridiculous run.
1:31Mike Minogue:What did you have for lunch?
1:33Keyzie:I don't know that I had lunch.
1:35Mike Minogue:So you haven't eaten today at all?
1:36Keyzie:No, I had bacon and eggs this morning. How was that? It was really good, Mo. It was a bit of a treat when you have it now and again. What kind of egg did you go with? I'm poached. So I air fry my bacon and then I poach an egg. Beautiful. I'm white toast too. We don't usually have white bread in our house. One egg, would you go for it? Yeah, just the one. Just the one. How many of you guys usually run? A couple? I do three. Oh, okay. But I do a three egg scramble, really. Well, I bang mine in the microwave.
2:06Mike Minogue:Scramble? Yeah, a lot of people do. My mum taught me the way that she makes it in the frying pan. It's so fucking good. Yeah. Parsley and shit in there. Now, you guys are going to get annoyed by this. I put my frying pans, because it's a solid steel one, iron one, or stainless, whatever the fuck it is, in the dishwasher.
2:21Keyzie:Right.
2:21Mike Minogue:Yeah, it's great.
2:23Keyzie:True story This is going to annoy you But just bear with me Made the most perfect scrambled eggs In my life the other day And it took like 30 seconds I just must have had the temperature right There was heaps of butter in there And I put the eggs in Just did a bit of a movement of it Just another little bit of movement Just a little movement and then douche it was done in 30 seconds As a non-stick kind of guy Yeah, it was non-stick. Well, I've got a stainless steel as well.
2:54Mike Minogue:Was it Teflon or stainless?
2:56Keyzie:Stainless.
2:56Mike Minogue:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Stainless Teflon.
2:58Keyzie:Stainless Teflon, yeah.
3:00Mike Minogue:The key is to get it up to temperature, then add the oil. For a scramble. Do you do oil for a scramble? I do butter for a scramble. No, sorry, not for a scramble. But if you're ever cooking with stainless and you want it to be non-stick. That's the trick. Get up to temp. That's what they don't tell you. And then put the oil. Don't just put the pan on the oven and then straightaway put oil. No. You'll fuck it.
3:17Keyzie:It was a complete fluke and I just went, wow, that's cool. But I haven't been able to replicate it since. Never mind, man. It was good for the time that it did work. Just live in the moment, man. Good chat as well. Totally. Good chat. What's the plan for the weekends, assholes?
3:32Mike Minogue:Work at Sky. Yeah, boy, get it. Because for the next two weeks, for the listeners, I've gone back to the job that I started at in broadcasting, which is like writing and voicing for The Crowd Goes Wild. And it's great. And I'm in there today and I'm in there at like nine, which isn't even that early. No. But I'm in there, I've got my computer there, and I'm typing, and I'm looking up at stuff, and I'm just like, you know, it's just like, I don't want to do this shit anymore, man. But it's pretty good. It's pretty good. It just shows how good you got it. It helps you appreciate what you got. But also, that's a good role as well.
4:03Mike Minogue:But I'm just like... Not when you're over it. Yeah, not when you've done it for a decade. No, no, no, no, no. Yes. Do you think you're warm to it? Were you difficult to be around today there, Keezy? Because you're such a negative bastard. I'm actually the fucking shining light of that area, mate. Yeah, you rule. I'm Mr. Positive. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, nice. Moogie, man, you're Mr. Negative. If I was you, I'd be out there just bagging cunts. Fuck yeah, I do, man. What's the time on that? We probably can't say this. Yeah, no. Actually, you can. You can. Can you? Yeah, yeah. The ACC does it all the time.
4:35Do they really? Oh, yeah. Wow. Shocking. It's a shocking word. It's a shocking word. It's brutal, isn't it, James? Yes. You know, it's a slang word for the female reproductive organ.
4:45Keyzie:Yes, I do know that, yeah.
4:46Mike Minogue:What, buzzies?
4:49Keyzie:Well, that's great, Keezy. As long as you're happy, mate, that's good. As long as you're happy. No, I'm saying that I'm not that happy.
4:54Mike Minogue:Yeah, yeah. Like, it's fine.
4:55Keyzie:Yeah, whatever, though. So why are you doing that?
4:59Mike Minogue:To help out. And obviously you're getting paid.
5:02Keyzie:Yeah.
5:03Mike Minogue:A contractor amount.
5:03Keyzie:If you were doing it for free, you'd be a fool.
5:06Mike Minogue:Fuck, nah, definitely not. Nah, just doing it to help out because they needed a hand. Yeah. For two weeks, I was like, yeah, sweet. So two weeks. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, sweet as, man. Good stuff. And then are you going to be the CEO? Yeah, that's the plan. That's pretty good. The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast. You should get your own TV show out there, Kesey. I'm telling you, it's time. Nah. Nah, nah. Nah, nah. Because we've got to get, um, Roger needs his own show next. Yeah, Roger. So we'll get him. Well, let's get it started and then he'll just sort of come in.
5:41Yeah, yeah, if you can get it started.
5:42Mike Minogue:And then he'll just come in and take over. Yeah. Ah, but nah. Who else would be next after that? For a TV show? Probably to Mighty Martin, actually, because he's probably only got one year left on his contract. Yep. Good-looking fella, too. I want to look at him. God, he is outrageously good-looking. All I'm thinking is a hunting show for him, hunting and fishing with me, hot stuff.
5:59Keyzie:Yeah, why not? 100%. He's a fiercely good-looking dude. But he's going to need a heinous off-sider, you know, like a hideous, ugly bastard that sort of doesn't know which way's up.
6:11Mike Minogue:Yeah, right. Who are you thinking for that? Me? I'd watch a show that's Tomite Martin and Jase hunting. Fucking oath. That'd be good. He'd be so weird. He'd be like, who's this dude? Why do I have to hunt with him? The problem would be having to get Jase helicoptered in anywhere because you wouldn't be able to walk through the bush, Jase.
6:29Keyzie:Well, the funny thing is we very nearly back in the day made a hunting show. Oh, yeah. I was probably having a conversation with the same person about that show. Yes, and I was actually pretty keen on it because I think it would be really funny because I went through a period where I did actually watch hunting shows and I think it's ripe for comedy.
6:48Mike Minogue:Was that after Screaming Reels? Yes. Yeah. That would have gone down well as well. People would have loved that.
6:53Keyzie:I think it could be very funny. It doesn't matter what you do really, yeah. Yes. But yeah.

6:59Mike Minogue:I've never been hunting.
7:01Keyzie:I'm not interested either. I've only been hunting for rabbits. And chicks.
7:05Mike Minogue:When you went hunting for rabbits, were you like, be very quiet?
7:08Keyzie:Yeah, were you? Yeah, we went hunting for rabbits. Yeah, and I had one of those hats that covers your ears. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
7:14Mike Minogue:Alma Thud.
7:16Keyzie:I actually, I love it. I enjoyed it very much. Did you eat the rabbits? But I think, yes, we did. I only like it when they suffer, though. Yeah, we did. We did eat the rabbits. My auntie used to make a big stew out of them. A stew, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, which was actually pretty yum with red wine in it and all sorts.
7:31Mike Minogue:I think rabbit is one where if you just eat rabbits, it can kill you. Because rabbits don't have iron or they have too much iron or something. I love this. I don't know. This is great pub bullshittery. And it's a shame that there's Google now because he used to be able to say this stuff willy-nilly. Totally. And nobody could prove it otherwise. And then they come back to you a month later and say, that thing that you're saying about rabbits and if you eat rabbits you die is bullshit. And then you go, I never said that. You can die from eating only rabbit meat, a medical phenomenon commonly known as rabbit starvation, protein poisoning because rabbit meat is exceptionally lean and lacks all the essential fats and carbohydrates.
8:09Mike Minogue:So you can eat it and you're full. And these trappers and shit back in the day were like eating heaps of rabbit and then they'd die randomly.
8:15Keyzie:Do you remember when they introduced, was it myxomatosis? Oh, yeah. That heinous, because there was a massive rabbit. How big was he? Yeah, it was about as big as Horty J. Well, the massive rabbit. And they released myxomatosis. And they don't know who did it. Someone did it. Well, they do. Now, what was that called? That wasn't the name of the thing. It wasn't? Wasn't it xymetosis? It had a really good name. Yeah. And it was a fucking brutal way for the animal to die, but it was effective. It used to because it was really bad down south with the rabbit outbreak. And I remember seeing footage on Country Calendar and all these tacos that got made back at the time where the farms were just alive with rabbits.
9:04Yes. For every square metre, there'd be 50 rabbits. It was fucking insane. Yes. But they had the same problem over in Australia. Tom Scott was going to make this. Right. What the fuck was it called? Pine Done? Nah. And then they...
9:20Mike Minogue:Carbon bisulfide. Nah. I thought it was myxomatosis. They brought it in from Australia. So the farmers over in Australia had this drug that killed them. Was it a drug or a disease? Well, one or the other. It might have been... A virus. I feel like it was a drug. What was it? Yeah, myxomatosis is a viral disease. used to control rabbits. Failed to establish. I'll find it. Anyway, a farmer from New Zealand went over and got it off a farmer in Australia and strapped it underneath his armpit and smuggled it back into New Zealand and then let it go on the South Island and then that completely sorted it out.
9:55Yes. I'm not entirely sure that there was it. Any farmer out there will be saying he doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. But as far as I'm aware, the government refused to introduce this disease.
10:06Keyzie:It was done illegally. I remember that. And it just wiped the bastards out. So whenever we did used to get rabbits, it would be like, but that would have been before that time, so that must have been bullshit in my head I'm thinking of.
10:19Mike Minogue:Well, it says mixmat... That seems to be the thing that's coming up the most. Yeah, that's right. I'll have a little Google here. It had a real ring to it. Yeah, well, that was the one I remember. And they made good stew. So once you got the mixmatosis in them bastards there, you made yourself a stew.
10:34Keyzie:You had a bit of hair loss and some warts, but, you know. Those rabbits were going at it like rabbits, Keezer. You should have seen it. Totally. Is that with the same country? Absolutely. They were loving it. But getting back to the hunting, I think I would really struggle killing a big animal. I think I could do a pig. I reckon I could do a pig. A pig would be tough as well. It's the cutting of the. Oh, yes, that part. But I mean like hunting for deer. Oh, shooting it. Shooting, I mean. That's what I'm talking about. I could do a pig, but I'd struggle with a deer because they're such majestic creatures.
11:11The Calcivirus is what it was called.
11:14Mike Minogue:The Calcivirus. The Calcivirus. That was the thing I was thinking of. The really famous event happened in 1997. The government rejected an application to officially introduce a rabbit calcivirus as a biological control. Frustrated farmers illegally smuggled the virus into New Zealand from Australia and deliberately spread it by minting infected rabbit organs and coating carrots or oats with a slurry to infect wild rabbit populations became one of New Zealand's most infamous biosecurity incidents. In many regions, 90 to 95 percent of rabbits died. Isn't that good, Keezy? That's crazy. The farmer's just sticking it to the government.
11:48Go fuck yourselves.
11:49Keyzie:Yeah, but they did suffer. Which isn't cool, but Well, fuck, man. Don't we all? True. Don't we all, man?
11:57Mike Minogue:Look at Moogie, man. He's suffering right now. Yeah, totally, totally. Don't hear me complaining about it, man. I'd love a bit of Kelsey virus. Dream of a bit of calcivirus, Kesey. Give me some calcivirus now. Spread that up and down, my carrot brother. Kesey? What do you mean you're carrot? What do you mean by that? I just want to find out what the negative impact was before we leave the listeners dangling there, hanging. Doosh, doosh, doosh.
12:29Keyzie:What are you guys up to? I'm going to go and get some half-priced sushi. Oh, are you? Yeah, I think so. A Korean variant, legally approved March 2018.
12:40Mike Minogue:But they developed immunity to the original strain. Isn't that interesting? Rabbits were a major food source for ferrets, stoats and feral cats. After rabbit numbers crashed, those predators often turned to native birds, lizards and vertebrates. Can't fucking win, man. Yeah, and then I guess there would have been some, yeah. I mean, look, what are you going to do? You win some, you lose some, Keezy. That's all I can say about it, brother. Amen, brother. Hey, listen to the big show, 4 to 7 weekdays, Radio Hauraki. No!
