In short
The hosts recap their weekends and then discuss “intimate financials”: how they structure bank accounts, budgets, and savings to manage mortgages, spending, and “exit strategy” plans.
Guests
No guests are featured; the episode is between the hosts (Joe, Keezy, and Jase).
Guest backgrounds
Joe and Keezy are described as working in media/TV; Jase is a client-facing professional who attends client dinners. One host previously did voiceover work for “Street Hospital” and another for “Dog Squad.”
Key claims
Account automation reduces admin; high-interest savings can offset mortgage principal (e.g., BNZ setup). Some hosts keep separate “Plan B/exit strategy” accounts inaccessible to partners.
Notable examples
A client dinner “under budget” (taxis, dinner, four bottles of wine); “Dog Squad” income about 5% of one host’s income; “Sly Grog/stripper” blowout account with a few hundred dollars.

Yeah man, g'day fellas. Hey yeah! How you going team? Good man. Yeah good stuff. How you going Keezy? I'm all G man. That's good shit. What about you? Yeah I'm great. That's good man. Yeah really good thank you.
0:27Mike Minogue:I can tell you're in a good mood.
0:28Keyzie:Well, yeah, I got off to a good start to the day, put me in the right frame of mind, and I carried on. Played nine holes by myself. Oh, nice. And it was a beautiful day. Got home by like 20 past 10. Sweet. And it motivated me to carry on and get stuff done. Oh, good on you, man. What did you get done, man? The lawns for a start. That's a good start. That'd be a bit sodden when they have to so many days of rain, Joe. Well, weirdly enough, not too bad actually, Mogi. Tidied up the house, did some laundry, hung out some washing, you know, stuff like that. Homely stuff. It's good shit, eh, man? Yeah, it is good shit.
1:05That's how I spent my weekend. Nice. Saturday was all of that because the missus and the kid were away, you see. Yes. And the way I like to unpack after I've moved is to get it all unpacked and then to get rid of all the empty boxes and all that sort of shit. Yes. But my wife's slightly different in that she likes to have a couple of open boxes in every sort of room. And then at some point in our lives, they'll disappear. When you move next. Probably. So I just put all of the empty, the ones that we're still working out of, put them all into one room so we can just go and then grab them one box at a time and empty those instead of having them all over the house.
1:45Yes. About six loads of washing. Yeah. Just cleaned the house. It was great. What'd you do, Keezy? I felt productive, man, you know? Well, you had a hangover on Saturday, of course.
1:54Mike Minogue:Actually, not too bad. Actually, not too bad at all. Oh, you had your client meeting. That's right. Had a client dinner. It went very well. Oh, you did nail it. We'd need to have a recap on today's show, by the way. Oh, sure. Yeah, yeah. Client meeting went very well. Yeah. Very well. Very well. Oh, yeah, you put them away. Yeah. Because that's what you're supposed to do at a client meeting is bang them. Well, it's just the way that you said it made it sound like you just absolutely... Well, that's what I thought that was the goal was. It was kind of sexual, Gizy. Yeah.
2:17Keyzie:The way you put it, it went very well. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Geez, I thought your wife was going with you. Obviously, she didn't turn up.
2:25Mike Minogue:No, because remember you told me not to take her. Yes. And then I'd just go and meet up with Tony and what was the guy's name? Oh, God, you made a fool of yourself.
2:32Keyzie:You can't even remember the name and you slept with him?
2:34Mike Minogue:It was the name you guys made up on the show. Made up? I don't need names when I'm banging dudes. Well, that was a good one, was it? What time did you wrap it up? 11. Yeah. It was good, actually, really good. Came in under budget, which was good. You have a budget and you have to tell them, I'm sorry, guys, you can't have it. No, the opposite. We've got a budget here. I had a budget. I had an amount of money that I put away so that in the back of my mind we could have a really good night. Yeah. And I took that out months ago when I was paid from them last. Do you have a client dinner account? Yeah, I was going to say, do you have an account for that?
3:09Mike Minogue:I actually did. Only because I was renaming accounts and stuff and resetting up my stuff and I put some money in there. I'll just call this client or something. A client account. That's funny. There you go. You got it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But the taxis, two and back, dinner, four bottles of wine. Yeah.
3:27Keyzie:Taxis? What are you? A lot of wine each. All right.
3:29Mike Minogue:Yeah, pretty much. Nice. And my wife doesn't drink much. Yeah. Yeah, and that all came in just under. I had 20 bucks spare. Here he is. How good.
3:37Keyzie:It must be a massive amount of admin when you get paid, just divvying everything up into your various accounts. It's a huge amount of admin.
3:46Mike Minogue:Jason takes less than five minutes. And most of them are automatically.
3:50Keyzie:You've got like 15 accounts.
3:52Mike Minogue:I do not. Okay, seriously, I've got a fun account, right? This is personal. Fun account, we've got utilities. We've got gifts. We've got trips, like holidays. Oh, yeah. And those are all automatic payments every week. Right. That automatically go into those accounts so that when it's like, oh, what, it's Dad's birthday, we'll go to the gift account and there's, you know, 200 bucks in there. My wife wouldn't be happy with that system you're operating. Yeah. because it's not enough interest, you're not generating enough interest. Well, that's an interesting point. So she would have everything going either on our evolving mortgage account or on a high-interest bearing account.
4:32Mike Minogue:So that's what we were on. However, we went to a new mortgage broker and he set us up because the way we operate our accounts, including a savings high-interest account that we've got, there's, I think, BNZ, basically if you've got anything in your savings, they'll take it off your mortgage and reduce your mortgage by that amount. So it's like, let's say we had 100K, I wish, but 100K in savings. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm with you. Because with the way we budget and stuff, if we've got that total in our BNZ account, you're paying the interest on, let's say your mortgage is 500 ,000, you're only paying the mortgage on 400 ,000.
5:04400 ,000, I'm with you. That's great. That's a good way of doing it. I have no idea. Then you get to run your accounts the way you want.
5:09Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast. That's good stuff, Jase. You like that, man? Sorry, fellas. I switched off. Well, me and Keesie will keep talking. I want to change our accounts so that I get paid my money, right, so that it doesn't go into our couple's account, and then I can organise an exit strategy. That's literally what I'm running. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Have you got your exit strategy account? Yeah, but I haven't named it exit strategy. No, no, you wouldn't. It's called Plan B. Is it an inverted commas? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
5:45Keyzie:I just have it so that my wife can't access the accounts. Yeah. So I have, you know. It's interesting because. That's why you're running at a massive loss on here. We're running at a, we're doing good. But. Oh, shit, I'm stuck to hear that. My wife is like, she wouldn't have a clue. Nah, you said she's thick as two short planks. Not quite what I said. But she, I mean, you know, doesn't bother herself with that stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You say, look, don't you worry your pretty little face with that shit. If she hears this, you're in shit, though. This is you. I'm just repeating what you said. It's disgraceful.
6:27Keyzie:Your pretty little face. She would so smack me in the head if I said that. But, yeah, no, she's like in terms of our mortgage and stuff, she's like, so what do we owe? She wouldn't have a clue. And they go, well, X him out.
6:41Mike Minogue:That's because Daddy's looking after her, though. Yeah, Daddy's got it. Big Daddy, please. Yeah, Big Daddy's got it under control. Yes. And she knows that, well, as long as you've got Dog Squad. Yes, and as long as that doesn't get touched and as long as everything's not up in the air next year, then we're all good.
6:54Keyzie:Dog Squad is done and dusted, sadly. Sorry, what? Oh, gee, she must be terrified. Have you told her? No, I couldn't. I didn't know how to. No. Imagine the look on her pretty little face.
7:04Mike Minogue:Yes. Because you hate it when she frowns, eh? Yeah, yeah. It ages her up. Yeah. Because what percentage of your income, right, is split, is Dog Squad? Oh, about 5%. Wow. And it's lucrative, right? Yeah. Yeah.
7:26Keyzie:I mean, it's not game of two halves, but I'm doing okay. I like the way Jason's trying to reverse this on me.
7:33Mike Minogue:My TV show, which hasn't been renewed. It's okay. Yeah, right. It's fine. When I used to do Street Hospital, and you'll be making considerably more money than this, Jase. Street Hospital? Street Hospital, which was the same thing as you, except it was on Courtney Place, and it followed piss people around, you know? I think I watched an episode of that, yeah. They had a little ambulance on there, and, you know, fights and all that sort of shit. So that's great. Yeah, well, it was pretty easy, pretty contained, and I did the voiceover on that. I think that was like five grand an hour. So that was a piece of piss.
8:02Yeah, yeah. A lot of fucking lines. Yeah, well.
8:06Mike Minogue:That's so good. I'd love that. Yeah, it was pretty good. They did one season. I think the fucking voiceover sunk it.
8:12Keyzie:10 to 15 pages of script per ep. Were you living in Wellington at the time? I was. And what was really funny about it as well was the way that they'd make you talk. It's got nothing. It's like, well, that's not my voice at all, but they want you to get you. And then it's like, tipsy Tony from Timaru has had too much to drink. And it's like, well, why have you got me for this? That's not my voice at all. They did the same with me when I started doing Dog Squad, and I just said, shut the fuck up. Yeah, man, this is how it goes. And I went, this is how it's done. I am the man. Well, this is how you run it through your head when you drive back from being diminished in front of the agency.
8:51From showing your ass to the casting agency. Yeah, that's right.
8:56Mike Minogue:I guess the issue with you doing a Courtney Place thing and living down there is you were probably on a lot of the episodes. I was on the fucking hammer. Yeah, that's right. I knew when I was shooting, that was the trick there, Keezy. Ah, I see. Yeah, old Mogey there. It'd be funny if you were narrating and then you saw the episode and it was you. Old Mogey. On the maggot again. Old maggot Mogey. Look at the state of this guy. From the Manowatoo.
9:16Keyzie:Weaving across Courtney Place. Weaving in and out of traffic. That's where I got shoulder barge that time. It can be quite daunting, Courtney Place. Yeah, it's best to avoid it. You get up to your Cuba's streets and all that. Yeah, your Friday nights. It's like, fucking hell. Yeah. It's a bit rough and ready. Especially if you can't handle yourself.
9:37Mike Minogue:It's a bit dirty, Keezy. Lucky you're a tough little bastard. Yeah, lucky you're a nuggety little bastard.
9:42Keyzie:I'm a fucking tough chicken McNugget, man. Yum.
9:46Mike Minogue:McNugget.
9:48Keyzie:Pugs aren't just shaking his head about your accounts, Keezy. Anyway, I'm thinking about my accounts. What I want to do is I just want to get paid my money and then pay my share of the bills and then be able to save my money, but not in my own account, contribute it. So just so I know where my finances are sitting there, because at the moment it just feels like I've got no idea. It just all disappears.
10:09Mike Minogue:Yeah, so I have that set up. It's great. Right. And also the other thing you can do is have, Mania's running one as well. Basically, he calls it a Sly Grog account, which is basically an account with a few hundred bucks in there so that you can go and have a blowout. Yeah. It doesn't run up a credit card or anything like that. Yeah, yeah. And my wife knows I've got one as well. She's like, I know about your other account.
10:29Keyzie:You used to call it your stripper account, eh?
10:37Mike Minogue:I did, yeah, and then I renamed it Yeah, what's it called now?
