0:17Keyzie:Hello. Very good. Very good Keyzie impression. Hello. Hello. He always sounds very depressed, Keyzie, at the start of these podcasts, doesn't he?
0:36Yes, Mogey We talked to Carl Urban Everybody's going to know that Because we were releasing the podcast So it's okay that it was pre-recorded Yeah When I came in We had one of the And Carl, you'll be listening to this We had one of the worst handshakes In the history of man I came in for a brother Sort of a shake I saw it And then he came in straight And then he went to change we got caught in betwixt and in between. And then for the entirety of the rest of the time, I know both of us were thinking about it. A bad handshake is kind of like bad sex. It's a hard thing to forget. It's a hard thing to forget about.
1:12And it's not great to start a relationship with.
1:14Keyzie:Yes. And it's also like a misjudged kiss. Yeah. You know what I mean? Where you go and you're going, oh, are they? Where they're going for your cheek. Are we doing? Oh, God. And you sort of bump heads together. They're going for your cheek and you put your tongue down your throat, eh? Yeah. You're a shocking bastard, Pugs.
1:33Jason Hoyte:Hey, what? Anyway, lovely fella. Yeah, he's a great guy. So good. Did you like how my one question was about whether or not he's playing an older Johnny Cage in that 25-minute check? That was a real shitbag move, I thought. Yeah. Real shitbag. I was actually thinking to myself, that was the one brief moment where the thought of that handshake went out of my head. Because you were like, oh, you serious? I was like, oh, my God, Pugs has done something even worse. Oh, thank God. Yeah, perfect. Just ask him a question. Hey, you're old Johnny Cage. Yeah, it was good. He's had a great career. Yeah, he has.
2:05He's done some cool shit. He has, and huge respect to guys like him. Born Ultimatum he did, or Born Identity, one of the Born movies. Oh, yes, really? Yeah, it was one of the hit men chasing down Matthew, Matt Damon. How sick. Matthew Damon, as I call him. Yeah, in the biz. Yeah, he's done some cool shit. I'll be honest with you, I'd like to see him do some more drama.
2:27Keyzie:Absolutely Because he's a fucking good actor Yeah he's a really good actor Yeah Out of the Blue he's very Have you seen that? I fucking love that movie Yeah he's great That's the Moana Oh yeah Yeah Great film though Not as depressing as you'd think One of my very good mates Is a star of that film Oh yes Matty And What's his surname? Is that Sunderland? Yeah he's a great He's a very very very good actor He's an excellent actor And he's always He's always, ever since I've known him, just had an intensity about him. Massive intensity. There's some people that are like that in different kinds of ways.
3:05One is you get a camera turned on and they're just so, even better looking on screen than they are in real life. Yes. But another one where you can have that intensity and you just think, man, if I had that. You know where there's so much of the work is done, not that Matt's not, he's a great actor, as well as. Yes. But fuck, it'd be such a treat to have something like that.
3:23Keyzie:I remember one actor who – I mean, I've got big ears and a massive honker, but outside of that. Yes. Bulging eyes too. Bulging eyes, obviously. Massive head. I tell you, you know the actor Sarah Wiseman? Sarah Wiseman. Yes. And she does a lot of work in Australia now. She does. She's one of those actors. I mean, she's beautiful in real life, but when she's on screen, the screen just kind of – Yeah. The camera loves her. Yeah. Loves her. Some people just have that – Because you're saying in real life. No. No, I wasn't. She's a very lovely person, actually. She is a lovely human, yes. And done very well over in Aussie, too.
4:02Very, very well. Do I resent it? Not at all. Think I was up for any of those roles? No. Well, to be fair, they were probably female roles, so you wouldn't be. I would have done a good job with them, given half a chance. That's the thing, Pugsana, you won't know this man. Nah. When it comes to the acting show, it's all politics, mate.
4:20Jason Hoyte:That's exactly why I didn't ask many questions in that whole thing I feel like you guys obviously have extensive acting knowledge And a lot of the questions were Great instincts from you, man Except for that one question you asked Which was shocking Yeah, it was shocking I think I asked If I could just finish one point Yes Sorry about this, Carl The Hauraki Beach Show Weekdays from 4 On Radio Hauraki The Hauraki Big Show Podcast. No, I just feel like you guys had the knowledge to exchange with him about that industry, and I didn't have that. Well, it is. I need to get more confident with interviewing, but I also just like the direction that it was going.
5:03Jason Hoyte:I'm not going to happen day one, man. I didn't feel at my place, you know what I mean?
5:05Keyzie:But in fairness, Pugs, I was asking him a question, and then I had halfway through the question no idea what I was talking about, which very rarely happens to me, generally speaking. But I suddenly just went, oh, I don't even know what the question is that I'm trying to ask you. You know what I mean? But there is plenty. There is, like, there's heaps of stuff you want to know the answer to. Yeah. But you can't ask about it because it's, like, I like the, like, who's the biggest prick? Because there's some shocking bastards out there. Yeah, yeah. You know, that you've worked with. Shocking bastards.
5:34Jason Hoyte:Who's the worst person you've worked with? I've got one, actually. I've got one. Very well known. Very well known person. Fuck it. Off air? Yeah. Can you tell me now and we bleep it at 5.39 seconds? Jason Hoyt. Yeah. Make sure you beep that. I don't want to know him. Yeah, he's a shocking bastard. A real piece of shit, actually.
5:57Keyzie:I've never really worked with anyone that was an out-and-out dickhead. Yeah. Right. I've worked with people who I've felt, and this is more a reflection on me than them. Right. Probably. Were way too earnest and serious about it all. Ah, yeah. You know, where it's the art and it's the craft and it's all very precious. And I get it, but sometimes I think people can be over the top with that element of it.
6:26Jason Hoyte:You've spent dedicated time satirising those kinds of people in schism. Yes, I have. You know what I mean? I have, yes.
6:34Keyzie:But I've seen a few tantrums, definitely. I've seen tantrums. But I was tired and hungry. You know what I mean? I haven't had any lollies. Because I'd been on set for two hours, and they'd put me in this pigeon outfit. That was fucking funny on Broken Wood. Is that on air yet? I don't know, actually. It's coming soon, and I think they're going again as well. Yes, they are, I think. But it was the final episode of the series, so it wouldn't have played yet anyway. But, yeah, people fucking cracked up about me having to wear that pigeon outfit. It's hilarious. Because it was steamy as fuck in that.
7:11It was so good.
7:12Keyzie:And especially when you're in like an interview room, getting interviewed, and it's like a little box with heaps of people in there, you just steam. Can you contextualise the pigeon outfit? It's basically just a massive fat pigeon. Yeah, but why were you wearing it? Oh, it was part of the promo of my new business. The Porky Pigeon. Within Broken Wood. Within Broken Wood. It's so good. The show sounds me. I tell you what, if I was on that show and I'm a producer, So I'm just thinking, what can we get Jase to do? That's what they do here. I did wonder if there was an element of that in it because people were pissing themselves just going, yeah, boy.
7:58Jason Hoyte:Every time there's any kind of costume that comes into this office, Kate, the lovely lady in the office, her first thought is, can we get Jase in this? Yeah, can I wear a gimp mask?
8:07Keyzie:Or the gimp mask. Or the Hulk costume. What, Kate? fucking what? It was really interesting because on, and this is quite an insight actually, on Broken Wood in the last season, there was a bit of a technical malfunction. Right. Let's just leave it at that. Yeah, yeah. And so we had to reshoot some stuff. And apparently everyone was terrified of talking to me about it. And I think it was because, funnily enough, I know why. It was me in my pigeon suit in the interview room. And people were going insane to the person who had to talk to me about it, oh, good luck and stuff. And I think he was like, oh, fuck.
8:54Keyzie:But I was fine. It could have gone either way, though, couldn't it? That's all good. It was a little bit of that. That's all good, man. But actually what was most annoying about it was that it was a very dense dialogue scene and like five, six pages of dialogue. So it was like, oh, and I don't know about how it is for you, Mogi. Once I've done a scene, it tends to just - It kind of goes away. It kind of slips out of your brain. Yeah. Right. Before you do it, it's there, but once you've done it, you kind of go, okay, I don't need that anymore. Well, you're relieved and you let it go, yeah. It's like storage on your computer.
9:31Keyzie:I remember at the time, you were human. You don't know how that works, Chase. You were human, he was there. No keys here today, fellas. He's gone away to play golf. God, fuck. Should you even be allowed a day off with that? No. Yeah, it's funny, isn't it? You can do whatever you like. It's crazy. Madness, I need to tighten up around the leaves that we're getting here because that's bullshit.
9:53Jason Hoyte:I reckon. Especially with Jase, man. He's out of control, brother. Doosh. Listen to the big show. Four to seven weekdays. I'm Radio Horaki. Thank you.
