In short

Two hosts settle into a new home and trade stories about neighbours, building rules, and coffee-machine sponsorships, framed by “Love Thy Neighbour.”

Guests

No guests are featured; it’s just the hosts (Big Show podcast).

Key claims

One host says a wealthy Remuera body-corp tried to block converting an office into a residence after the owners had already spent money. He calls the group “fuckwit” and claims they waited until conversion costs were sunk.

Notable examples

The hosts describe moving-day lift covers that neighbours demanded be taken to the fifth floor; the family was not told beforehand. They also joke about coffee setups and a De’Longhi/Brad Pitt-style partnership approval delays.

0:00Mike Minogue:I see the front. Fucking hell, sorry, that was loud. Jesus, I'm going to restart. For all you mad bastards loving the Big Show podcast, get up even closer on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok. Or raw dog it. Four to seven every weekday on Radio Hooded. Yeah.

0:20Keyzie:Yeah, man. G'day, fellas. Fellas. Hello. I've just had to jack myself up. Up for a change. Yes. I'm feeling very tired

0:31Mike Minogue:Why is that? How was your sleep like? I'll talk about that in the show

0:35Keyzie:Yeah And I've had to Because Keezy walked past me And I smelt the waft of instant coffee And I was like Actually that smells quite good So I've made myself an instant coffee And I know 100 % That at 2 o 'clock this morning I'm going to be fuming Tomorrow morning tomorrow morning.

0:59Mike Minogue:You'll be happy to know this isn't an instant coffee, by the way. It's out of my coffee machine. Oh, yeah, it doesn't do those anymore. It's upgraded. I've got to have an instant coffee because I haven't had one for years, but I stare down my significant snout at it. You know what I mean? Yes. Maybe I should just have one and see if it's yum.

1:13Keyzie:Yeah.

1:14Mike Minogue:I still like them.

1:15Keyzie:We had a situation because our coffee machine's been fixed at the moment and our new kitchen arrangement is a gas bastard. Gas what? Oh, yeah. Gas, you know, everything. and they're all huge elements and so we're doing the stove top and it's like, oh fuck, that's not going to work because it's going to burn the shit out of the handle. So you've got the gas on? Yeah, the gas is on. Everything's on, fellas. Oh, apart from the TV, haven't worked that out yet. We didn't have our skybox but then I was sitting there this morning thinking about that conundrum and I figured out a way to do it and she works beautifully.

1:48Keyzie:Did you put a hot plate on it? No, we don't have a hot plate.

1:52Mike Minogue:Usually they have like the big, because has it got the iron prongs around it? Yes. Usually there's like another thing that you put on top of the centre.

1:59Keyzie:Yeah, we can't find one of those. Bastard. What was your workaround? My workaround was just putting it to the side slightly on the outer, and it worked a treat. It worked sweet. Do you know, I love those stovetops. That's what we've got. Fucking great. I've also got a proper rocket coffee machine, so a proper, proper one. Yes. And the missus is like, do you want me to make one of these? I'm like, no, I love the stovetops. Stovetops are good, man. Stovetops are shit. They're really good, eh? I mean, and this is a little bit of, because I usually have your flat white from our machine, but I've been having the stovetop with just a dollop of cream.

2:34Keyzie:Oh, la la. As is my wife. And it's a lot smaller, a lot less milk, and it just gives you that doo-doo. Yeah, yeah. I like it. I like it. Yeah, yum. I'm sort of, I'd be kind of happy not having a stovetop. Oh, Keezy. I mean, a machine. Oh, Keezy's, he's doing his De 'Longhi partnership, of course. Him and Brad Pitt Are doing those So him and Brad Pitt Are doing the same Sponsorship How about that Pretty impressive I haven't uploaded

3:03Mike Minogue:A single reel yet Because it takes them Forever to get back to us Oh really It's been over a year now Is that still not And I haven't posted A single reel Because I'm waiting For them to approve And that's a fucking Good reel fellas That's a good deal man It's so Because I've Yeah I've got a coffee machine I've been using the arse off it And I've filmed a reel And cut it And I'm just like Cool man ready to upload Whatever you guys want Oh my god It's really bizarre

3:23Keyzie:It is, yeah. So was the deal they gave you a really flash machine?

3:29Mike Minogue:And pay me to do a certain number of reels using the machine. That's how it works.

3:34Keyzie:I'd just shut it if I were you, Keezy, and get on with your life. You know what I mean?

3:38Mike Minogue:Well, I mean, I am. I'm drinking coffee and the other thing.

3:41Keyzie:Put the money in the bank and go, okay.

3:42Mike Minogue:I haven't got the money because I haven't uploaded the reel yet. Okay, but you've got the machine.

3:47Keyzie:You've got the machine. Yeah, but that's not. You want the money.

3:50Mike Minogue:I didn't want to do it for a machine. Yeah, you want the cash. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You want a cashy. I was happy without a machine. Yeah. But now you've got the machine. Are you happy? You love the machine.

3:56Keyzie:You were talking about it at our last golf outing.

3:59Mike Minogue:Where was I?

4:01Keyzie:What would you like this? The usual keys? Oh, yeah, yeah. It does do that. That's pretty cool.

4:05Mike Minogue:It goes, it's breakfast time. Do you want your usual? It talks to you. Nah, words on the screen. Oh, yeah, that's right. I don't like these fucking robots talking to me. No. No, at all. It just says it on the screen. Yeah, that's good. On the screen, I like that. It's just like, do you want your usual? It's breakfast time. Yeah. And I go, yes, because I've set it up. And then it's like, oh, it's lunchtime. Do you want your usual? What's for some reason is set to an iced coffee because my wife had one. Oh, really? Yeah, yeah. Makes nice ones though, fellas. Yum. The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.

4:38Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show podcast. What's happening for the weekend, fellas? I'm excited about this little long weekend. Yeah, it's great, isn't it? And it might even be sunny.

4:48Keyzie:Well, we're still sort of We still want to clean out our house and shit, man But I said to my wife Tomorrow Fuck that We're just having a day off all of this shit I think it's a nice sunny day tomorrow too Yeah, and just wandering around this morning Just loving it And I just went, fuck yeah, man Let's forget it tomorrow And then get back to the shit Are you happy with your move? Yeah, man It's awesome I'm tired I'm really tired today but it's fucking great. Yeah. I mean, my daughter's already had a run in with the fucking oldies, but hey. Is she one of the locals? Is she? I tell you what, it's a really.

5:28Keyzie:Less than 24 hours. She's into it. Well, it wasn't really. I'm being a bit of a dad about it, but it's really interesting the people that live there that I've met thus far. It's going to be interesting.

5:41Mike Minogue:Right. So the neighbours aren't very nice. Oh, no. La-dee-da?

5:46Keyzie:They're well to do Yeah, it was like that We had an apartment in Remuera And we bought it And it was an office So they built these apartments over there Behind the train station Before the train station was there possibly But they're these big sort of parks They're all on a body corp And they're flash Yes And they built these buildings And on the ground floor they had offices an office on either side of the foyer. And that was where the builders operated and they would bring in people and then show them around and sell, sell all these apartments out of these offices. And then at the end of it, they were stuck with two offices.

6:27So we bought one of the offices and we converted it. This was like 10 years or so ago. We converted it into an apartment. And we were able to buy it. We bought it. And then we found out a year or so later after we converted it, that everybody in the building, the body corp, went to the council and tried to have it so that we couldn't convert that apartment into a living. Why? Because they didn't want anybody living there because I was so used to it just being offices that sat empty. Right. They didn't want to then have to come through the foyer where people were living. So they didn't object to us buying it in the first place, knowing that we were going to convert it.

7:02They waited until we spent our money and then tried to fuck us. Wow. So that we would have been fucked. Yes. All of our money had gone into it and we would potentially not have been able to convert it and then we would have had an office in the bottom of an apartment building.

7:17Keyzie:With a camper bed inside. But super, super wealthy. Yes. Remu era, classic, fuckwit. The lowest of the low, the worst of people. You know, absolute worst of people. Well, look, I've met a few and most of them have been lovely. Yeah, and they're funny. Nothing else because they live on another planet. I got on the lift today and there was a fella there, a mature fella, wearing his towel. So he'd obviously just been for a swim. And I said to him, good swim was it, mate? And he went, not bad. And I went, that's the stuff.

8:03Mike Minogue:Fuck, that is dry bullshit. I love it. But it's like. I was small talk, Woody J.

8:08Keyzie:Yeah, but I'm also really aware of, I mean, you're talking about transplants from deep West Auckland. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? And there's been a few sideways glances, I can tell you. Not at my wife. She's great.

8:23Mike Minogue:She's hot. She fits in. Do you reckon it was? I fit in. Were you wearing a Reburger hat? No, I wasn't wearing any hat. Oh, yeah. Yeah, right. Soon enough, you'll be coming in here wearing a fucking top hat.

8:36Keyzie:Yeah, and a monocle.

8:38Mike Minogue:I think you've got to start having some stories about your neighbours in your building for the show.

8:44Keyzie:I'm a bit sort of edgy at the moment. Just make it up, though.

8:47Mike Minogue:Yeah, yeah. Well, the good news about that clientele, by the sounds of it, your neighbours definitely won't listen to this station. No chance. I don't think so, no. This will be below there.

8:54Keyzie:No. And it was so funny, you know, because the carpets are very plush going to the apartments. And so the movers did all their shit. And they left a bit of bits and pieces on the carpet and stuff. And I went, oh, fuck, we didn't bring our vacuum cleaner. So I was walking on the carpet, plucking up bits of fluff. But it's like, come on. I know what you mean. But then they vacuumed and it was like, oh, I knew I should have vacuumed.

9:19Mike Minogue:Do you have to vacuum the area? No. Well, if you make a mess, you clean it up. Yes, yeah, yeah. It's not like you have to have a turn vacuuming the hallway or something. No, no, no.

9:29Keyzie:But what actually happened was they put in lift covers. They said, do you want lift covers? I mean, yeah, that'd be great. What the hell are they? They just put covers on the lift so that they don't bang shit into it. When you're moving all your shit in, yeah. And then my daughter was in the lift and the woman said to her, are you the new neighbours? And she said, yes. And she said, well, you guys need to take these lift covers down and put them away. And she was like, oh, do we? And she was like, yes. And you take them up to the fifth floor. and my daughter went, oh, okay. And then this woman whispered to the other woman in the lift, these are the new neighbours.

10:14And my daughter said, yes, that's who we are.

10:19Keyzie:And I said, now listen. There's nothing wrong with that. That's good stuff from her. That's good stuff from her. But then my wife went into it because there was no mention of that. Yes, that's who we are. You've got to pack up the lift stuff. because no one's mentioned that to us. We didn't know anything about it.

10:36Mike Minogue:And just them assuming you should know it goes on the fifth floor and you have to pack it up.

10:39Keyzie:And then my wife did it and she was like, and our neighbour said, oh, you've got to take it up to the fifth floor and put them away. And so she went up to the fifth floor and went, put them away where?

10:48Mike Minogue:Right.

10:48Keyzie:Where do I put them away?

10:50Mike Minogue:Gosh.

10:50Keyzie:And so she went back to the neighbour and she said, oh, I'll help you, and went up with her and said, they go over there. And she was like, oh, okay, thank you. Great. But it was just one of those weird. It'll be fine, man. I love it. Oh, yeah. It'll be fine. That's all you need to. But it's nice having those little adventures as well, where every day you come and you go, oh, here we go, that's fuckwit. G'day, George. How are you, mate? You know, and they're just so unfriendly. It's unreal. Miserable bastards. And then on the other side of the wall. But you have fun with that, Jase. You just say hello to everyone.

11:21Keyzie:I will. On the other side of it, deep central Auckland d-d-d-d-sh going on.

11:29Mike Minogue:What do you mean?

11:30Keyzie:Just brawls. Oh, really? Yeah. Then I go back into my air-conditioned loft, and I look out over them and I go, Scum. How many stories is it? Six, I think. Are you at the top? No, we're two, which is good. Two. Especially when you're carting shit around. Two.

11:51Mike Minogue:Hey, listen to the big show, 4 to 7 weekdays, Radio Hodaki. Dish.
