In short

A “Big Show” outro where the hosts banter about sleep routines and, mainly, how families accumulate clutter—especially kids’ rooms, “handy bags,” spare rooms, and travel packing—arguing that too much stuff reduces appreciation and can lead to hoarding.

Guest backgrounds

No guests are featured; it’s a solo host-style banter among the regular co-hosts (including “Maggie,” “Keezy,” and “Lucy,” referenced as partners/family members).

Key claims

Kids and spouses tend to hoard gifts; men would keep a bare-minimum home if alone; women “nest” and store items; packing is minimal for one partner but her “boot” always contains boxes “ready to go.”

Notable examples

Clearing a kid’s wardrobe (a wheelie bin of stuff); moving expired pantry items (expired since 2013); herb containers where only 2 of 60–70 boxes remained after sorting; a Hello Kitty “handy bag” stored for a week and a half.

0:00Keyzie:For all you mad bastards loving the Big Show podcast, get up even closer on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok or Raw Dog It. 4 to 7 every weekday on Radio Horeke. Yeah man. G'day fellas. Ha ha. Hey. Monday, Monday. So good. Good stuff man. So good. So good. How are we all doing? Are we all good? Yeah. Yeah, pretty good. Got a bit going on. Yeah, you're a bit busy, Maggie. Yeah, got a little bit on. Yes. Kids back at school, though. That's good, though, eh? Miss is having a lovely time in Spain there. Apart from very loud neighbours. Oh, no, she's moved, so that's all good. Oh, OK, good. No, she's been getting plenty of sleep.

0:46The other night, she's like, I think she's got 10 hours or something. That's the kind of sleeper she is, man. Don't even, man.

0:53Mike Minogue:I love how that, like, this is a real we haven't had kids yet situation, but my wife often gets 12 hours sleep. She'll just go on fucking naked, go to sleep at 8.30 and wake up at 8.30. Wait until she's surviving on two. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hard out. It's going to be a shocker. She's going to really struggle, I think. What are you sort of average there, Keezy? Seven to eight. Yeah, I'll go to bed at like 11, wake up at like 7.30, seven-ish, toss around for a bit and get up. But I can't sleep. I wish I could still sleep in. I can't sleep in anymore.

1:26Keyzie:Oh, yeah, I mean, I'm well past that point of sleeping, and once I'm awake, we're done and dusted. It's straight into the coffees. I've been managing to get back to sleep. But I'm waking up. I had a good run, and I'm very grateful for it. But it's over now. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I've been waking up at 4 o 'clock, between 4 and 4.05, every morning. Yes. There's something about that. What is that? How does your body know? I don't know. on a personal level on the last three nights I've had shockers and I couldn't tell you why. And shockers at the other end where I can't get to sleep. Still wake up really early but stay awake for ages and usually I can fall asleep within 10-15 minutes.

2:10Keyzie:Yeah, I'm going pretty good to be fair. It's been a lot worse. It's been worse, Keezy, you know what I mean? This is sleep chat. Yes. With the old fellas there. Yeah. But yeah, no, a good weekend. I had three birthday parties. Oh yeah, we've got to talk about that actually. I'll tell you what I'm doing as well. This is good, man. I'm loving it. I've actually created myself quite a list of things to get done while the missus away. But I'm cleaning out my house. I'm cleaning out my house, getting all the shit out of it. Because it's just full of shit. You remember quite a while back, we had a very deep and meaningful conversation about this very thing.

2:49Keyzie:And how when you get the chance. Oh, you've got to take it. You're going to do it. Is this a – it can't be all of the time, but all of my experience with it is that it's a male-female thing. Females being nesters. Yes. And wanting to have the – you know, they're bringing things into the nest. Yes. You know? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Bits of fluff and stuff. Yeah, I don't know. Men don't have – and this is generally speaking, fucking blah, blah, blah. My experience, et cetera, et cetera. But, God, the amount of shit in our house. and it's not terrible but for me it is and the worst place is in the kid's bedroom but everything is vital and my kid feels the same way about it and you've got sticks in there leaves what kind of sticks like really good ones no not even good ones I mean good to her so yes they are good and I love the appreciation of nature but sticks live outside man they hate it inside they get upset when you bring them inside so you go put them outside yeah let them free the wild Free them.

3:47Mother Nature misses them. Yeah, yeah. So I did the wardrobe on, I think, Saturday, her wardrobe. I got a wheelie bin of shit out of it. Yes. And now it is spotless, shelves with things on it that you do and not just crap. So some people out there at the moment might go,

4:06Keyzie:God, that's a lot of stuff. But when you're dealing with kids, Kesey, they get a lot of stuff. It just keeps coming through the door, man. Yes. It keeps coming because everybody loves you. And it's good. It's nice. Everybody loves your kid and they just keep on bringing it, keep on giving that stuff because it's a sign of affection and a way to win, to curry favour. Yeah. You times that in my case by four back in the day. I cannot imagine. Plus your wife. Yeah. Now, here's the thing, and I don't know if it's a male or female thing too. I suspect that if I was alone, I would have the absolute bare minimum home.

4:46You would be in a bed sit. Yes. Your bed would also be your couch. Yes. You'd invite people to, when they did come over and you haven't invited them, they've just checked to make sure you're not dead. Dead, yes. They'll have to sit on an empty crate of beer and you'll have to get the ashtrays off it.

5:05Keyzie:Yes. Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. I think that's about accurate.

5:16Mike Minogue:Big Show podcast. Are you a whore with a TV? Yeah, what's it like in your house? You've been suspiciously quiet. Yeah, you have been. In my house, my wife certainly likes to hold on to things more than I do. There's a bag in our hallway right now. Yeah. And she's like, that's quite a good bag, isn't it? But it's like a bag that she got some shoes in, and it's not a paper bag, but it's not a plastic. It's like quite a nice quality big bag. That could be a really handy bag for something. Oh, God, how handy is it? And so I was like, yes, I'll put it in the bag of all the other handy bags we have, which has 20 bags in it.

5:49Do you know I cleared out the handy bag cupboard? Yeah. Because there's 50 handy bags in there. Yeah. And I haven't got enough arms to be able to use all of those. What am I, an octopus? Hey. So I cleared out, I think we've got 10 or 15. Are you sure that's enough? Because I've got one that you can have. And it's just beautiful. Because we used to be stuffing them into the little shelf. and then you're trying to get the door closed. It's like, what are we doing here?

6:16Mike Minogue:This is, and I think I mentioned it already, but my packing thing, Friday night I go to Europe, right? My packing thing is going to be five shirts, two pairs of shorts, one pair of long pants, togs, undies, socks, one pair of shoes. My Europe shoes, you saw them. Yeah, they're so good. So you're going to need to check in some luggage for those or are you going to wear them? I'll wear those. So I have to get an exit row. But like that is And I'm like That is all I'm taking If I'm 50 If I am like 90-10 on something It is not coming with me Yeah Well you see

6:49Keyzie:Interestingly my wife If she travels It's very minimal You know if we're going somewhere She doesn't pack a lot of shit But here's the other thing There's another thing with my wife That's a phenomenon And that is that her boot Is never empty Is that a euphemism? And what I mean by that is it always, without fail, has boxes of shit that in quotation marks, she's taken to the oppie. Lucy's got that right now. But it never goes to the oppie. That stuff sits in our hallway. Oh, we've got a couple of those in the hallway too. It's ready to go. Yeah. It's ready to go. Yes. I mean, she's not taking it, but it's ready to go.

7:31Yeah. And so it sits there, I'll give it a certain amount of time and then I will take it. Yes. Or it just goes in the bin. Don't even get me started on the spare room. Don't even. Oh, yeah, I'm worried about you. I am worried about your spare room.

7:42Mike Minogue:It is a shocker. See, I don't think we have as bad an issue as what you guys have. But it's because we don't have kids. Well, there's, yeah, exactly. There's that. It's exactly that. But it's like also when we moved, I did it, the last move that we did from our last place into this place, I did that, I think, by myself because my wife was away on a film job somewhere. She was in Welly, I think. So I went through because normally she moves the kitchen because she knows where to take it from and she wants to know where it's going. Yes. So she does that room. That's sexist. I do other rooms. Yeah.

8:15So I went through all the shit in the pantry. You remember this? There was stuff in there that expired in 2013. Yeah. We'd been moving it. We've lived in, no shit, 25, 30 houses. We've moved it 25 or 30 times and it's never been edible.

8:32Mike Minogue:That's a lot of houses. Yeah, it is. But I filled up a wheelie bin out of that as well, of stuff that was off. And I'm the bastard carrying the boxes of shit. Just on that, I've got to mention this,

8:47Keyzie:just on that, on the herbs, on the herbs, two weeks ago.

8:53Mike Minogue:Is this a bag in your wife's special? I was going to call it that. Two weeks ago, right? Don't mention it because she might see it in her podcast feed, not that she follows this.

9:01Keyzie:We've got a massive sort of plastic container with all our herbs. And my wife said, oh, I went through the herb box. Oh, yeah. And I went, oh, that's good. She said. Why did you say that's good? Just something to say. But then. Good time. Here's the thing. Yeah. And I kid you not, probably 60, 70 boxes in there, you know, the little herb boxes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know how many were left after she went through it? Two.

9:31Mike Minogue:Why? Were they old? They're all old. But they're full. That's exactly what I'm saying. That's right. It's insanity. Yes. It's insanity. And so with my kid's bedroom, I'm like, we've got to clear this. We've got to clear this shit out. You know, it's ridiculous. And it's also a lesson for her that you can't get so attached to stuff. You need to get rid of stuff. Otherwise, you're training a pack rat, a hoarder. We're going to end up with a hoarder. Yes. But her answer was more storage. Yeah. I don't need it to be tidier so we can have more of it. I want less of it. Are you worried, though, if you do that, if you teach, like, hey, let's have less stuff, that it's like when you're very Christian, for example, upbringing, and then you don't have to be any more, then you go the complete opposite way.

10:18I mean, it's possible, but in the meantime, yeah, it's just, I don't think you can have an appreciation for the things that you get given or that you've got if you've got a room where you can't see the floor, where it's just covered in shit. And it's like she got stuff for her, and we've got to start telling people not to give us anything, which is what we did early on. But she got given stuff. She had this – people are buying these ridiculous presents, you know. Very generous but completely unnecessary. Yes. This Hello Kitty bag. It was like leather. Handy bag. Oh, God, it was a handy bag. I would hate to think how much it cost.

10:55Full of Hello Kitty shit, and it had some other stuff in there that had been collected from out in the lounge where all the presents were. It sat in her room for a week and a half. I moved it. I've put it in storage. She hasn't even noticed that it's gone. You don't guess. The more stuff you get, the less you appreciate any of it. You don't appreciate all of it the same amount. You appreciate all of it, not at all.

11:17Mike Minogue:You can have one Hot Wheels car. Yeah, man. Exactly. And one Lego. How much would you love it? Yeah, yeah. At Christmas, she got given one thing. She was over the moon, thrilled, and then she got given another 20 things and it was like, eh. Yeah, because it's all at once and you're just like, it's like when you've got a bag of lollies or if someone gives you one lolly, it's like, yes, yum. Yeah, exactly. See?

11:36Keyzie:No, I want the whole bag, Keezy.

11:38Mike Minogue:Yeah, well, you guys are different, obviously.

11:40Keyzie:And I'll eat the whole bag too.

11:43Mike Minogue:No, I know, I've seen it. Especially if you've stolen it from the ACC. Wow. I bet that guy today, I bet he got a few bags of lollies, did he? On your dime.

11:54Keyzie:mostly backy it seems and prezzy cards that's why the bank

11:58Mike Minogue:didn't spot anything

12:01Keyzie:about six hours later I get a call I get a message from the bank saying we've noticed some suspicious activity on your account do you want to approve this and I was like well it's already gone through now I'd say no but anyway more on that on the radio show if you don't know what we're talking about listen to the radio show yeah the other poddy the best off poddy

12:18Mike Minogue:hey thanks for listening see you on the big show 4 o 'clock until 7 But ho rao
