In short
Sleep problems, “power naps” gone wrong, and using/avoiding medications; plus stories about acting mishaps and antibiotic/painkiller use.
Guests
Keyzie (tired, sleep schedule issues; uses/forgets “Vigisol”/sleep-aid meds; describes anxiety dreams and forgetting scripts) and Mogey (admits past heavy painkiller use tied to lawn bowls; now avoids meds unless severe).
Key claims
Short naps should be ~20 minutes; long “nana naps” can disrupt night sleep. “Vigisol” helps sleep quality/alertness (Keyzie says he takes it, but sometimes forgets). Don’t reuse expired antibiotics; finish prescriptions.
Notable examples
Keyzie falls asleep at 4am after a long nap; wakes at 3am after a “dad nap.” He once arrived at set with an unlearned scene. Mogey stopped painkillers after deciding to “live with” minor headaches.

0:15Keyzie:G'day fellas. Hey. G'day guys. Keyzie's tired man, let's talk about it. Talk me through your sleep. What's going on with the sleep pattern there Keyzie?
0:24Mike Minogue:Can't sleep at night. Don't know why. What about during the day? Did you have any naps? No. That's no good. You taught me through it. What time do you go to bed? I went to bed at 9.30 and I got to sleep at 4am and woke up at 6. How good. So good. That's good stuff. Have you started a business or something I don't know about? No. That sounds like business sleep. I had my first sleep the other day. I slept from on Saturday night, Sunday night. I went to bed at 8.30 and I woke up at 4.30. Wow. I haven't had an eight-hour sleep for, I couldn't tell you. Couldn't tell you.
1:00Keyzie:Yes. Well, I was actually going to have a go at you guys yesterday because you've influenced me with your nana naps. Right. And I ended up having a nana nap on Sunday, which I never do.
1:11Mike Minogue:Why are you so adamant that you want everyone to know you never do it? It's like you're embarrassed of it.
1:15Keyzie:I just, I don't know. I've never been good at them for a start because I'm way too agitato a creature to sort of have that nana nap. I need to be truly fucking knackered to have a nana nap. And so I had a nana nap on Sunday. You've never been tired. I had a nana nap on Sunday afternoon, an inadvertent one, in the sense that I was watching a bit of TV and just nodded off. It's a dad nap. Yeah, like dribbled on myself. And then I woke up about an hour and a half, maybe nearly two hours later, and my wife was, oh, you were tired. And I was like, ah, I was, darling. And then I went to bed sort of normal time, 10-ish that night, woke up at 3 in the morning.
1:57Keyzie:Wow. And it was the fucking Nana Nap that did that to me. Yeah, you've overdone it. It was meant to be about 20 minutes. It's called a power nap. Power nap, yes. Short, sharp, give you a little bit of a boost. You can't go two hours. What are you doing?
2:09Mike Minogue:Well, it's generally because - Why are you trying to fix it for a mogi? He just wants to complain about it, man. Don't try to fix it.
2:16Keyzie:I don't know if you guys feel - Do you feel better after it? Because I always feel shit. If I have a short one. I always have a 40-minute nap or something. It's got to be short. You've got to set your alarm. The trouble is that I generally set your alarm, but then it takes me ages to fall asleep. So the results may vary. Yeah, well, I just whacked some sleeping drugs at night now, which seemed to help half an hour before I go to bed. Drugs? Yes. Like pharmaceuticals? Pharmaceuticals, yeah. Really? Yeah, it's called like Vigisome or something like that.
2:48Mike Minogue:Right. Well, it's this you do.
2:49Keyzie:You take that before bed. Yeah, yeah, it's like to aid sleep.
2:52Mike Minogue:But is it like you're taking sleeping pills? No, it's not as full on. Like a natural thing from the chemist.
2:58Keyzie:It's not as full on as a sleeping pill. It's just to aid with sleep. Yeah, right. Like I think you may even be, oh, no, you have to get them prescription. Wow. Wow, that's full on. Don't get addicted to those. Yeah. Look out, Chase. Well, I often forget to take them. That's the thing. And then I go, oh, bugger, I didn't take my Vigisol. And then you take like 15 of them.
3:16Mike Minogue:What's it called, Vigisol?
3:17Keyzie:Vigisol. That might be just the brand or something. I don't know. Are you sure you're getting mixed up with Vagisol? Oh, no, I do that in the morning when I wake up. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I just rub it on there on my vag. There you go, man. Yeah, yeah. But I had the classic anxiety dream at about 2 o 'clock this morning, and it was on set. People were talking, and they were talking through the scene, and it was a really big scene of which I was featuring heavily. Yeah. And the director was saying something, and I was like, oh, hang on, hang on. can I have a look at that? And they showed me the scene and I went, I've got no fucking idea what that is.
4:00Keyzie:And I had big chunks of lines and I was like, I've got no fucking idea what this scene is. And then they just carried on anyway. It was like, so it's bad. And I was like, oh. I wonder what that's related to. I don't know. Hang on. No one was listening to me.
4:16Mike Minogue:Have you ever actually had that happen to you?
4:19Keyzie:I have turned up on more than one occasion and looked at the sides, which I think I was saying yesterday.
4:25Mike Minogue:Sides is the script, right? The small script.
4:27Keyzie:Yeah, just a small version of the script for the actors. I've turned up to set before and gone and discovered a scene that I haven't learned.
4:34Mike Minogue:Yes. Right. By accident, you missed it. Yes.
4:36Keyzie:Because I didn't read the fucking thing right or something. I went, oh, fuck.
4:41Mike Minogue:I would hate that. Fortunately, it was when I was young and I could look at a script and go,
4:47Keyzie:Okay, that'll do. You'd motorboat someone. That'll do. Just going around this motorboating woman. Far out. Jeez. Different time, I guess. What I should do, I can bring you in some Vigisome keys. Well, it's funny. I'm just reading about Vigisome here. It says it's used to improve sleep quality. Yes. And morning alertness. Oh, yeah. In patients over 55 years of age.
5:17Mike Minogue:over 55 I don't know where you've got your hands on that stuff Jase. Did you get your daughter to get you some or something? The Hauraki Big Show weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki The Hauraki Big Show podcast.
5:33Keyzie:Can I ask you a question on that front? Is it okay?
5:38Mike Minogue:Oh god. No it's not and you know it's not but carry on. Like if your
5:42Keyzie:family gets a prescription for something. Yeah. Like trammies, let's say. Yeah, or let's just say trammies. And you're going, oh, jeez, my ankle's
5:52Mike Minogue:srobbing a bit. No. Not your ankle. What's the saw from Lawn Bowl? So I need a trammie.
5:58Keyzie:Come on, man. Is it okay if I just pop one of those bastards? Look, there's nothing I'll be talking about on here, Jase. Or on podcasts. Right, I certainly wouldn't condone it. I mean, I wouldn't condone it. I was just trying to get your guys' views on it. Pretty sure it's illegal. Yeah, I would imagine. Why are you winking at us? I was trying to get your guys' view on it.
6:18Mike Minogue:Why are you holding up a packet of trammies?
6:22Keyzie:You know, because it's just, I don't know. Sometimes they go on the old first aid kit. There's a lot happening in there. Yeah, there is. I had to do a clean out recently. Yeah. All sorts of old shit. Plasters. 2016 antibiotics. Yeah, that's right. You know, you're like, fucking hell.
6:39Mike Minogue:I remember saying to the doctor once, because I had a chest infection, and then it went away with the first dose of antibiotics, but they gave me like two, like another week's worth. And then I got it back again like two years later, and I was like, hey, I've still got some of those antibiotics. Can I just take them? And they were like, no. They expire, right? They expire and they aren't as effective. Yeah. Do you reckon that's true? Well, they've got living things in them, don't they, an antibiotic? Right, I suppose so. The antibody. Yes. And so they were like, they aren't as effective. You're essentially going to make yourself immune to those antibiotics because you have to go get some more, which is a bad thing.
7:11Keyzie:Yeah. And the one thing I know about doctors is they get – This will be good. As they wear Warriors jerseys. Yes. They get very shitty if you don't finish the prescription. You know, it's like so often people, they'll get halfway through and they go, I feel better now, and they'll stop.
7:29Mike Minogue:Yeah, you have to see it through. My doctor just told me I was all good to see – I had three weeks for some reason for my throat thing. And he said, if it's all good after two weeks, you'll be right. I was like, I've never heard that before. I think two weeks is the normal amount. Maybe he gave you three just in case. Because I was always two weeks whenever I had a chest infection, which was a lot as a kid. Yeah. Don't smirk at me, Jase. What? I had chest infections. It's not that funny.
7:54Keyzie:I know. I know that.
7:56Mike Minogue:If I wasn't here wheezing, you wouldn't find that funny.
8:01Keyzie:I went through a stage where I was smashing the old painkillers quite a lot. Why? Lots of lawn bowls. Yeah, lawn bowls. And I was in a lot of pain, Mogey. Mental.
8:14Keyzie:Headachey. Yeah, right. Achey. Oh, like hangovers. And then I was talking to my bro and he was like, because he suffered from a lot of headaches and shit. Hangovers. No, he's not a hoity J. And he just went, I actually reached a point where I went, okay, I'm not taking this shit anymore unless it's really, really, really bad. So I took that philosophy too and just stopped taking. If I had a bit of a headache, I just went, I'll just live with it. Have some water. What a backbone. I was such a backbone, man. But you'll bitch about it though, eh? Just to let us know that he's a backbone. But no, I was just making a point.
8:58Keyzie:I was just telling you a bit of my history, my story. He's opening up to us. and I appreciate it. Yeah. So, you know, don't overuse drugs, New Zealand. That's good stuff from you, man.

9:10Mike Minogue:You can't go from asking if you can steal your family members' drugs to say don't overuse. People won't. They don't. I'll see right through you, man. I wouldn't steal them. No, they'd be free.
9:20Keyzie:Yeah.
9:20Mike Minogue:But you'd ask them.
9:21Keyzie:I'd say, hey.
9:23Mike Minogue:Hey. Would you say, hey, when you go into the doctors, can you tell them you're really in pain so that they give you some trammies and then give those to me? Would you say that?
9:33Keyzie:I've never had a trammie in my life
9:35Mike Minogue:I know you haven't
9:37Keyzie:Actually at my wife's do the other night This dude was talking to me about trammies And how they made them real crook And he was like oh that's not the story I wanted to hear Because other people are like It's like you're on your own little cloud
9:49Mike Minogue:You know Matt I think Matt Heath Was addicted to tramadols I'm pretty sure I heard him talk about it on the breakfast podcast A long time ago And he said he didn't do poos for like three weeks And he finally did it and it was like pushing out a giant pine cone and I'm pretty sure that's what it was the summer's back surgery yeah that's right because he got hit by a motorbike when he was filming a thing and he said yeah I think that's when he decided to stop the pinecone poos yeah they're no good those pinecone poos nor is this coffee listen to the big show 4 to 7 weekdays on Radio Hodaki it's good radio it's good enough
