In short
A banter-heavy “OUTRO: On The Record” segment from The Hauraki Big Show, shifting from Auckland weather and music-record collecting to a recurring joke about “making bands walk the plank,” then into explicit discussion of auto-erotic asphyxiation (and consent/pain-for-orgasm theory), ending with personal updates about stress, phone habits, and a movie date.
Guests
Jase, Keezy, and Pugs (plus “Chris” briefly). No formal bios given; they’re regular co-hosts/regulars on the show.
Key claims
Sunny weather boosts endorphins; podcasts can be addictive; record prices are high but some are cheaper via Mighty Ape; pain in music (blues) is enjoyable; auto-erotic asphyxiation is framed as consensual and potentially orgasm-enhancing.
Notable examples
Arctic Monkeys “AM” and Nina Simone; “Max Rector” album; Tom Petty “walk the plank” vote; “punch me at the end” as a hypothetical; “beat the shit out of me” joke; phone rule of no phone in-studio.

0:15Keyzie:G'day fellas. Here he is. What a day. It's the sort of day in Auckland City that is so beautiful it makes you question everything you're doing in your life. Your sexuality? No, not that part. I'm pretty stable on that part. You're just like, anything goes. I'm pretty firm. Anything goes old. Anything goes. Fill your boots in the boudoir. Fellas.
0:41Mike Minogue:So it's the kind of day that reminds you that anything goes in the boudoir.
0:45Keyzie:No, it's the kind of day where you contemplate options. You know what the funny thing is about it, man? Why don't you just have this kind of day every day? For sure. You know? But there's something about the sunny weather that just brings out your endorphins. Gives you itchy feet, doesn't it, Jase? It makes you think, you know, God, there's plenty of water to go under the bridge.
1:06Mike Minogue:Well, you could have this weather every day if you moved to, like, the Gold Coast or something. Goldie. The Goldie. There is that about Australia, actually. But it's still cold. Like, my brother lives over there, and he's like, for them, 23 is freezing. Exactly. But you'd move over there in winter and be like, oh, this is great. Oh, this is the one, brother.
1:20Keyzie:That's one of the appealing things I've got to say about Australia is the climate. All my girls are in Melbourne at the moment, and that's very Auckland-like. It's temperamental there. Yeah, it's a great city, just weather-wise temperamental. 42 one day, 15 the next. Correct. It's weird, Keezy. And weirdly, he's just digesting this.
1:40Mike Minogue:Sorry, I've got indigestion because Jase pressured me to eat my sushi really fast so he could record the podcast. So I'm just processing that. Is that what happened, Jase?
1:51Keyzie:At no stage, you know, pressure Keezy to eat very fast. I finished my season and I was just waiting to do the podcast.
1:58Mike Minogue:That's fine, man.
2:00Keyzie:Totally.
2:00Mike Minogue:Do you know what you do, though? Obviously, not in this particular situation, but you always go with your pen. You'll just tap it once when you're ready to do something.
2:12Keyzie:I love my eardrumming. You do.
2:14Mike Minogue:No, that's a hurry up. I want to do something. And Keezy's dragging his chain. All right.
2:19Keyzie:Let's go. Okay. Sometimes, well, you know, sometimes you'd, because you guys have a tendency to waffle and to just sort of lose focus, and it's like I've got to pull it back together and go, let's get it done, fellas. Come on now. Yeah. Pay attention. Yeah. Or you're on your phones or whatever. I've just got to rip your back and go, come on.
2:41Mike Minogue:No, I don't go on my phone, Jason.
2:42Keyzie:It's one of the rules I've set. Same here. I leave my phone out there with Pokes on. I'm never on it. You and your wife, is that your wife's rule? Yeah, whose rule is that?
2:52Mike Minogue:No, that's the rule I set for myself about a month ago. If I'm ever on my phone in here, it's because I'll be researching. Lately, it's been sort of like housing-based stuff as it pops into my head. But I'm really leaning into this whole – I don't drive anywhere now with podcasts or music on. I drive in silence everywhere. Do you? I don't know why. Well, I do know why. I'm trying to get away from it as well. Today, I was listening to music. I'm trying to get away from podcasts. I find them a bit addictive.
3:18Keyzie:Oh, they are for sure. Yeah, I'm the same. Well, funnily enough, I kept my stereo on today while I was outside pumping up the tune. What are you listening to? Max Rector. Oh, you got your album. Yeah. I had my album turn up today. So what did you do? You went out, you put your album on, and you had to go outside, turn the bastard over. Yeah, well, you know. But it's 30, 40 minutes, and then you come back inside and have a sip of water. Flip it over, have a sip of water. Jesus, 40 minutes aside, that's pretty good. Yeah, man. That's true. Again, I'm shocked by the price of records. We went into real groovy and I was like, you are fucking shitting me.
3:54I got one. Mine arrived today. I got the Arctic Monkeys AM. Great album. Keezy. That's the album that my wife and I got together on in our early dating there. And$40. $40 delivered. Okay, that's not bad. Pretty good, I thought. That's like a CD, as good as a CD.
4:13Keyzie:Because normally they're like, you're running 80 or 90 bucks. Yeah, well, this was through Mighty Ape, so I think they run maybe a second-hand sort of a set-up. Sure. It was all cellophoned up and all that sort of carry-on. Well, what we're running through at the moment is all my daughter's rejects. Oh. So it's actually her record player, and she went overseas, and she took all her records with her, but she couldn't take all of them, so we're basically listening to a lot of what she's left behind. What she got there. Which is bloody great, actually. It's a pretty good start. You know, a bit of Nina Simone, a bit of all sorts of stuff.
4:48Keyzie:Nice. I like Nina Simone. She's got a very eclectic kind of musical taste like her dad. Thank you. Well.
4:55Mike Minogue:I love that song from Nina Simone that's like, Oh, cinema, where you gonna run to?
5:00Keyzie:Yeah. She's got a voice full of pain. Yeah. Full of pain. Yeah. And I like that. I like a bit of pain. Does it remind you of yourself? No, I just, I like a bit of suffering in my music. Yes
5:12Mike Minogue:Yeah a lot of blues music You can't play it unless you've suffered some serious pain
5:17Keyzie:Absolutely actually Because I never used to be into blues But I quite like a bit of blues now Yeah like Ben Harper Yeah I love fucking Yeah because he's Oh yeah He's so full of pain Ben Harper I was thinking about that idea yesterday Of getting rid of bands there Keezy
5:31Mike Minogue:Yeah I told my wife about that idea She thought it was funny Yeah we should make the band walk the plank Because we're on the titty Yeah Not the titty Jay it's the titty Oh the titty yeah And or throw them overboard Yeah Or chuck them in the brig and then maybe they can come back later. Yeah, after a month, I reckon. A month off is quite funny. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But in the meantime, beat it. Yeah. And do you do it monthly or do you just do it once a year? I think quite often. Okay, because how do you decide which band is up for? Yeah, I think we can just be sitting here and a song plays and we go, God, that song sucks.
6:03Shall we make this band walk the plank?
6:05Mike Minogue:Yeah, I'm into that. Yeah. And then you vote on it. Yeah. Do you want Tom Petty to walk the plank? Yes. Yes or no? And then you leave voting open for like a few. Nice to the front, Jase. God. And it'd have to be for a few. He's a very attractive man, Kesey. A few days, wouldn't it? Yeah, I think so. Yes. And then it's all right. All right, Tom Petty, it's time for you to walk the plank. Yeah, and then you do the whole audio thing of him walking the plank. Click, click, click. And then I'm free. Free falling. Yeah, that's right. Off the plank. That's good stuff, Kesey.
6:33Keyzie:And then he gets eaten by sharks. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You sure you don't want it to be some sort of like gun execution? Well, I'm thinking because of the pirate ship, you see. Yeah, okay. Yeah.
6:44Mike Minogue:I don't like gun violence, Chase. Neither do I. Unless it's Tom Petty. Yeah. Or you could give him, and this might be in poor taste. Don't look at me like that, Pugs. Give him heaps of heroin. Yeah, I think that might be in poor taste, actually. Yeah, I guess we'll find out. Yeah, who do you want to give lots of heroin to is the name of the promo. We do it every now and then. Oh, God, I'm sick of a song. Well, because that's how he went, you see. I know. Well, Oxycontin. Was it? Yeah, yeah. It was on the Oxycontin, the same thing as it got prints. So is it like, oh, man, I'm sick of this NXS song?
7:17Yes.
7:18Mike Minogue:So. We're going to auto-asphyxiate. Yeah. The old front man. Auto-erotic asphyxiate. Sorry. Don't look at me, pugs. The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast. What, as if you've never done it?
7:40Keyzie:Audio asphyxiated. Autoerotic. How good can it be, I guess, would be the question. No, I can honestly say, even though I was saying at the start of this podcast, fill your boots, sexually, I've never done that. Yeah. I'm not into pain and stuff. Only in my music. Yeah, right, okay. Not sexually. I'm just getting Pugsan to come in here because I've got my daughter here and she needs to go to the toilet. And we're at a point in our relationship where I'm not sure whether it means I can trust her, you know? Does she need to go right now? She's elbowing me. I think she needs to go. So you're going to go and Pugs is going to take over.
8:15Yeah, Pugs is going to take over and he's going to talk about jacking it.
8:17Mike Minogue:Because I thought that, hey, Pugs. He's going to talk about jacking it to death. Yeah, for sure. See, I thought what was going to happen is that you were going to get Pugs to take Mogi Minogi to the toilet.
8:27Keyzie:No, no, no. So did I. That's what I thought. Right, so this is the thing about jacking it, guys, all right?
8:33Mike Minogue:Yeah, please go on the stage as yours.
8:35Keyzie:You're wearing that weird cap.
8:40Keyzie:Can I explain it to the audience? So, Jase, have you... It's a tiny little rim, and it's something that... Pardon?
8:46Mike Minogue:It is a tiny rim. No, it's a tiny peak. What is it? Visor. Visor, and it's just... It's just not what you're used to, Jase, and that's fine.

8:53Keyzie:Well, I am used to it because he wears it all the time, and it annoys me.
8:57Mike Minogue:I'm getting a vibe that you've got a problem with it because it's Japanese, Jase. That's sort of the vibe that I'm getting. Yeah, but I'm getting a vibe that you're wearing it because it's Japanese. I'm wearing it because I liked it, and I was in Japan and bought it. Yeah, no, it's fair enough. Well, no. Now, you say you've never done auto-erotic asphyxiation,
9:11Keyzie:but have you just done normal erotic asphyxiation, just out of curiosity? No, I've never. You've never erotically been asphyxiated. I don't have an issue with people. If they're into that, go for it. Well, that's right. I didn't ask if you had an issue with it.
9:24Mike Minogue:I asked if you had done it.
9:25Keyzie:You know, because the idea of, no, I've never done it. The idea that, you know, because the theory is, the more pain you're in, the greater the orgasm, the greater the feeling of the orgasm, because it's contrasted against the pain that your body's going through. How do you know that? Well, that's the reasoning behind it.
9:44Mike Minogue:So I should get my wife to, like, punch me in the head severely just at the sort of the end there, and I'll love it.
9:51Keyzie:Well, if that's what you want to do, Gisey.
9:53Mike Minogue:I don't want to do it, but that's what you're saying. You can do whatever you want as long as you're both consenting and having been enjoyed. Exactly, man. She'd happily do that, I reckon. Yeah. If I was like, hey, can you just beat the shit out of me just at the end there? And that's going to feel great. Jase said it works really well. He always does it. And then she'd be like, yeah, I'm keen.
10:11Keyzie:Because, you know, she takes all her sexual tips from Hoity J. God, that would be so off-putting if she did. Oh, my God. Well, you went there, and I do not pressure you to eat. It's just like Pugs. He's like, I text Keezy or I message him and I go, how are you playing with golf tomorrow? And he's like, oh, my God, I'm so stressed out about that. You're pressuring me. I was like, nah, man, I'm just saying if you want to play golf tomorrow, it's all good if you can't.
10:40Mike Minogue:Is that how I responded, Jase? Come on, man.
10:41Keyzie:When I got in yesterday, you were like, oh, it's just so much pressure.
10:45Mike Minogue:You just need to understand that Keezy has things outside of work that he has to do, like obligations, responsibilities and stuff.
10:50Keyzie:As we all do, which is why he can just go, nah, don't want to, I'm busy. He just has to take care of those and not prioritise golf. I text and I said, hey, I'm busy tomorrow, man, maybe later in the week.
11:01Mike Minogue:And then you said, outrageous, full stop. Yeah. Which is the equivalent of like, oh, Keezy, letting me down again.
11:08Keyzie:Yeah, it's the equivalent of that.
11:09Mike Minogue:And that's why I walked in yesterday and was like, oh, I'm so busy. I'm under so much pressure.
11:14Keyzie:You are under a bit of pressure, aren't you? Do you want to talk about it? Nah. We can talk it through, man.
11:19Mike Minogue:Nah, man, I'm all G. I'm all G, man. Pugs is here. He'll support you on whatever it is. Yeah, I'll chat to Pugs about it after work, maybe.
11:26Keyzie:Yeah, yeah, when you go for your movie date. I'm excited, man. Same. Except I'm full of sushi now. I don't think I'm going to get dinner.
11:31Mike Minogue:That's a shame. But I'll get some popcorn
11:34Keyzie:Keezy just had a full meal But he said no I'll be ready by then
11:39Mike Minogue:But I haven't had any food today Apart from your Wheaties That's not good enough Chris You're a big judge on that kind of thing for other people For me and for Jase A lot of voices all at once What are you doing Chris? This is a big show
11:53Keyzie:I'm going to eat an avocado on toast Backbone My wife!
