In short
The hosts banter about mics and sore fingers, then shift into weekend plans for a trip—discussing buying cough lollies and cigarettes/darts, avoiding stadium “filth,” and preferring nearby bars/food via a short walk to the river/CBD. They debate Caxton Street vs the Lord Alfred pub, and share past Brisbane experiences and rugby league losses.
Guests
No guests are interviewed in this outro; it’s the regular hosts on The Hauraki Big Show (Radio Hauraki). Named participants include Mogi, Jase, Keezy, and Pugs (and references to “Toddy,” “Dylane,” and “Hoity J”).
Key claims/examples
Caxton Street is overwhelming after three days; Brisbane is mostly a short road with pubs and a stadium; the river/shops/bars are about a 15–20 minute walk. They cite Kiwis losses (2001, 50–6; another match 54–0 with an early sending off) and past mishaps (broken sunglasses, broken jandals, trainers with a hole).

Hello. Afternoon, gentlemen. What's going on? Mogi just dropped the mic on his finger. My mic was way up here too. What's going on with the mics today? I think people must have been standing up. That hurts. Yeah, that would have hurt because there's a fair amount of weight behind these bastards. She's bruising up. You guys all G? Oh, man. Yeah, I'm good, man. That looks sore. But the least of my problems come Monday, am I right?
0:42Keyzie:You know what's going to happen, Mogi. That's going to, like, blow up over the next couple of days into this massive wound.
0:50Mike Minogue:You should sit this one out, man. Yeah, true, actually.
0:53Keyzie:Go and speak to Toddy. Well, I can't because, as I was saying to Jase just before we came in here, I've just been over here to this dairy over here, and I bought four packets of cough lollies and two packs of darts. Oh, shit.
1:05Mike Minogue:Bit of an oxymoron for you. So I'm ready to go. He's locked and loaded. It did occur to me, I said to the fellas, you get many people doing that, man, buying four packs of cough lozenges and two packs of darts? He said, what? Yeah, what are you talking about? I'm saying, what? Yeah. Huh?
1:19Keyzie:One thing I've noticed about you, are you going to get those through customs, or are you going to have to pay again? I just put, again. They say how many packets of cigarettes are you bringing across? I say two And they'll go okay You'll have to pay tax That's right it's more Yeah I don't know I'm just I'm going to do that Because what happened last time was I ended up with shit darts in Australia You can give me a pack if you want Yeah I was going to say Boom Just give one of the packs to me I'll give one to Jase No not to Jase No I'm just I mean I can't smoke on the plane Keezy Don't worry about it man Keezy I can't smoke on the plane This is for you man Can you mind your business man?
1:50Mike Minogue:This is my business I'll happily do that for you Mogi Stay the fuck up out my business.
1:56Keyzie:One thing I've noticed about you and Coughliners is you eat them, you chew them. Yeah, he just crunch. But he's an animal with anything he shoves in his mouth. Oh, totally. You know what I mean? Isn't the whole point you suck them? Yeah, sure, that's one way of doing it. I just can't resist, man. You know what it is? It's your impatience. Oh, my impatience? Yes, it's your impatience. It's you going, I can't over this now. Crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch. I think it's more the addictive nature in me. Get it in you, you mad dog.
2:25Mike Minogue:Maybe. Same thing in my eyes. Yeah. How are we feeling about tomorrow? Feel us? Great.
2:32Keyzie:I'm glad it's Thursday. I can't wait to be on the hammer tonight. Yeah, you are? Yeah. I was going to say, actually, why not? The problem is you'd roll in with a hangover tomorrow. It'll be hellish. And then you'd be good to go on Saturday. No, no. You roll into it tomorrow and you just get straight back on it. I'm worried about Dylane, to be honest with you. Really? As I get older, yeah. Dying of what? Drinking too much piss. Yeah. Yeah, okay. Yeah, sure.
3:04Mike Minogue:Do you reckon? Nah, it's not going to work. It's not going to work. You know? We don't know. So anyway, it's going to be great. I've talked to my other mate who's as old as, I will tell you he knows a couple of years on me, so he's 52. God, he's an old bastard. Oh, he's a shocking bastard. Great, great man. You're going to love him. but he's very happy about the plan, about the get on it, take the day off and go and do some other shit around the joint. Not stay in your hotel room all day. Go out, go to a restaurant, eat some good food, have some nice drinks but sort of just wrap it up early and not be in amongst the filth at the stadium, you know?
3:41Sounds lovely. I'll still be drinking, Jase.
3:44Mike Minogue:Yeah, no, I know you will be. Yes, but I won't be going. Well, who knows? But I'm not going to go to the stadium and feel like I have to, you know? I feel like I've Pound beers I felt like on previous years I feel obliged That you have to go down To Caxton Street every day You have to go to the stadium Every day And it's like Fuck that I'm old The tough part is Is Caxton Street Because it's so awesome And overwhelming That three days in a row Yeah Is like By the end of it You're just like Holy fuck And it is great But I would argue that Certainly for my age It's not great for three days It's sort of like You feel like you've done it
4:17Keyzie:For me it's not great For ten minutes Fuck you hate it Every time
4:21Mike Minogue:I fucking hate it. It's so funny. It's my worst fucking nightmare. And it really is your worst nightmare because it's all pretty much people that know who you are or a high percentage. 100%. And are pissed enough to want to have a chat. Yes. And there's just so, so many people.
4:36Keyzie:Yeah, it's just packed in the fucking gunnels. So I'll, what's that weird look? I will also say. Casey loves it at Caxton though. That we've got, we have to, we've got the, we should talk to them about this. I don't know why we, like everyone wants to be at the Lord Alfred pub if that's what it's called but we've got that other obligation somewhere else do you know what I mean? Yeah and so it sort of buggers up the timing because I don't know you should be doing that earlier and then going off to the Lord Alfred because last time we went there we got fucking terrible seats both times I'm just going to go from that to the game I'm not going to Caxton Street
5:16Mike Minogue:You can do whatever you need Jax I'm not touching it
5:17Keyzie:Just go straight to the airport man No
5:20Mike Minogue:The problem is you're going to have to walk through Caxton Street to get to the game. So you're going to have to take a taxi around the back. No, because it drops you off at the other end. Yes. You'll see me on Friday for a brief time.
5:33Keyzie:Oh, lucky me. Yeah. And then you'll see me on Sunday.
5:37Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast. I can't wait. I'm going to see you Saturday as well a lot. No, you're not, man. I'm going to be all over you, mate.
5:49Keyzie:You're going to be – Me and you are hanging out Saturday. You're going to be – well, I'll tell you what, we're going to have breakfast, Keezy, on Saturday. With your mints.
5:56Mike Minogue:No, well, Saturday, my plan basically is Friday, Big Friday. Big Friday. Saturday, wake up at like 8, head up Hoity J, see what he's doing, and then just sort of tag along with you for the rest of the day. Yeah. Same. 100%. Same, by the way. And I'm just going to have my Warriors hat on. Same here. Yeah. I don't have a Warriors shirt, by the way. I up the wah-ing my way around Brizzy. Fuck yeah, I'm going to be punching darts. Fuck the wahs. Up the wahs. What? Well, you know, I'll just mix it up over the course of the day, depending on where I am. Depending on the vibe. Jays. Jays.
6:30Keyzie:So how far do we know is the sort of CBD, the main metropolis from where we are? Well, the river, sort of down around those ways, is about 15 minutes a walk. Oh, a 15-minute walk? Yeah, it's not bad. Oh, well, fuck, that's cool. Yeah, no, it's pretty good. But in fact, I think I might have been less than that. Oh, I had no idea. I thought it was like fucking moons away. I was setting up my thing the other day. And yeah, she was pretty close. Oh, well, that's great news. That's great news for me too, man. Because obviously whatever you're doing, I'll be with you. I did 18 ,000 steps yesterday. Yeah, but they're tiny.
7:09Yeah, I mean, they're probably like 10.
7:11Keyzie:It's like a cat walking around. They're like 10 Keezy steps. It's like a centipede walking around. They do say, you know, it depends on the length of your stride. Oh, well, that, no, seriously, though, that's fucking great news. Because I thought, oh, I'm going to have to fucking Uber everywhere. Mind you, it'll be on the old company account when it feels. Absolutely, it will be.
7:31Mike Minogue:I'm just going to be getting caned the whole weekend.
7:32Keyzie:I know you are. At a brothel. And good luck to you, Kesey.
7:37Mike Minogue:Don't bring that shit back. Good luck to you, man. The problem, the issue I'm having is I'm worried that I'm just going to be on my own doing it. 20-minute walk, Jase. 20 minute walk.
7:47Keyzie:No, Pugs, I don't know. Central Station. Well, Pugs will be with you. Yeah, but, okay, that's cool, man. That's really good. And what, it's down to the river and sort of shops and shit. Yeah, they've got shops all the way along there and heaps of bars. So that's where we're going to end up. And they've got quite a lot of bars there, so just going to do it. The food looks good. It's going to be great, man, because I've spent no time. I have been here before. I've been there before for something else. I saw the Kiwis get pumped by Australia, probably 2001, by about 50 points to six.
8:20Mike Minogue:Fuck yeah. Nigel Wagner dropped the ball, and we were giving it to the Aussies before the game, I tell you what. We got hiding. Oh, we got pumped. I've been at two of our biggest losses. That one, which was a fucking disgrace. And then I took the DOP from Avatar along to the same fixture. We got someone sent off in the first 10 minutes, and we lost, I think, 54-0. Fuck yeah. 54-0. Yeah, that's not good. And I'm trying to explain to this American DOP what rugby league is. He's like, is this what it is, Mike? Just you guys getting your asses kicked? Yeah, pretty much. Yeah, yeah.
8:58Keyzie:For a while there. Yeah. Well, this is the other thing too, with the old Brisbane thing, because I've been there twice now, and I couldn't tell you anything about Brisbane. No. So it's like this time I'm checking it out. I am on the hunt. I can tell you about Brisbane.
9:14Mike Minogue:No, you just do you, Keezy. Brisbane is a small sort of 200-metre long road with about eight pubs on it and a stadium. And one corner of a stadium, that's what it is to me. And then like sort of a greyish blackout period and then the hotel that you're in, that's it. That's right. And then somewhere in this haze. A greyish. No natural year. No, it was a mince on toast cafe somewhere. Down the road there, yeah.
9:43Keyzie:Can you remember what that place is called?
9:46Mike Minogue:No, but I remember where to go. Right. I remember where to go. 15 minute walk from our hotel was. Who was in the art gallery? Wasn't me. Pugs was in like a weird shop. Yeah, for fucking moons. He bought a vinyl. He got bullied into making a vinyl. He did a purchase. Yeah, he did a purchase. He did a purchase. I broke my jandals. That was good shit. and I had my trainers that had the hole in the toe. Shambles. That was the trip where you lost everything.
10:13Keyzie:I brought sunglasses for$40 just on the cheap and they broke in an hour.
10:18Mike Minogue:Oh, yeah.
10:20Keyzie:It was like, yeah, fucking good one.
10:24Mike Minogue:Looking forward to it, fellas. Looking forward to it. I sat outside with an old Australian farmer who was there for a conference. He was from outback Queensland. Sat outside and had a few gins and a few darts with him. Was that outside the hotel? About an hour or so. Yeah, yeah. It's a good chat. It's a good chat. Good old fella. Was that Dez? Dez Delgitte, I think his name was. Yeah, right. Hey, this is a big show. It's four to seven weekdays, Radio Hodaki.
