In short

The hosts banter on home maintenance (painting fascia, ladder safety, lack of scaffolding), then pivot to a workplace “brainstorm” that turns into sexual-joke chaos, and finish with personal morning routines (sleep, running) and freestyle-rapping talk.

Guests

No named guests appear; it’s a host-only segment featuring Chris, Mogi, and Pugs (plus references to their partners and a “boss” running the brainstorm).

Key claims

Scaffolding is “pretty fucking amazing” and can be bamboo-based (claimed as Egyptian/Asia practice). Ladder work is risky but “careful” painters can manage. Their boss doesn’t know slang like “bum buddy,” causing extended explanations.

Notable examples

Painting a Mariah-style triangular fascia; ladder shaking when fully extended; partner power-lifting to retrieve keys via an open window; brainstorming lasting 25 minutes due to sexual jokes.

0:15Mike Minogue:Hello. Hi. Oh, guys. No Hoody J again. The Keezy Pugsata Mogey Show continues. Oh, it's back, man. He's a sick bastard, you know what I mean? He always has been. Literally. That's not very long. My wife might be coming down to Pick up the keys For the house She's locked herself out And I said to her I says to her I says Well One of the bedroom windows is open Ah yeah How's your upper body strength? She's ripped eh So she'll be here in a couple of minutes Yeah She's ripped though Like she's stocky She's stocky bastard Yeah She does like power lifting It would be annoying though Wouldn't it? Would you be happy with that, fellas, if you're at home, there's a window open, but you're not strong enough to get through it?

1:05Mike Minogue:Yeah, that would fuck me off. I'd like to think I'd use my ingenuity. If you're just standing there looking at it going. Could you put a bin under it or something and use that to climb on? Don't know. See, I would rather find stuff and find a way in than come all the way here. But that's a dude move because that also comes with the risk of falling off and breaking your neck. Yeah. And she would just look at that and go, well, I'm not doing that. You should have seen me painting today. The other side of it actually should land in the bathtub. So it's not just, you know, we would take that risk.

1:31Yeah. But we've got decades of climbing through windows, pissed and all that sort of stuff.

1:35Mike Minogue:We've got so much climbing experience, dudes. I climb everywhere. I love it. Trees and luck. I climbed to work today. Steps. Yeah, like today, right? So the end of our house, I'm painting the sort of the face here.

1:48Jason Hoyte:The bow end.

1:50Mike Minogue:Can I pause you there?

1:51Jason Hoyte:Okay. Could you rustle that mic a little bit more, please, Muggy? Just like ASMRing the fuck out of it for our listeners. Is that good? Chris, sorry, you were telling a story.

2:00Mike Minogue:Something about this, about a house. The front of the house, the fascia. Yes. Picture the front of a Mariah house. It's like a triangle point. I'm painting that on the front of my house, and I would say I've got my ladder, and it's an A-frame ladder. And I've made his love with this story. And I fold one half of it right up. The ladder is like six metres long at this point.

2:21Jason Hoyte:Yeah.

2:22Mike Minogue:and I'm up there and it's like shaking Is anyone holding the ladder? Nah And I'm climbing up and I'm painting Do you not remember

2:29Jason Hoyte:that old PSA? No no but I'm very careful That's dude shit bro I'm very careful

2:32Mike Minogue:It is dude shit and I'm like and in my head I'm like even though my dad fell off a ladder a couple of years ago and like broke his arm in three places I'm like yeah but Never hit it at me You're different obviously You're built different From the example of falling off the ladder But like it is funny when you've got your ladder at full flex how much like how shaky it is Yeah It's really funny But I'm getting better at it now though Because I've been up and down it a few times Yeah it was taking so long You've been doing that for ages Yeah it's fucking painting Just painting Are you doing a good job instead of just painting over it?

3:03Yeah It'll peel off by the time you sell the house

3:05Mike Minogue:See this is the issue I look at a picture of a weather board That's been outside for 55 years Yeah And it's got flaky paint on it

3:15Jason Hoyte:I'm picturing it now

3:16Mike Minogue:Yeah I am going around the whole place And sanding that all off first And then priming it and then putting two coats of paint on it.

3:22Jason Hoyte:What's your area of coverage at one time? So how much are you sanding and then painting? I'll sand the whole fascia. Oh, right, the whole thing.

3:31Mike Minogue:The whole thing, boom, boom, and around the sides of the house. And then the next day I'm like, right, it's painting time. So then get the ladder, move that around the house the whole way around. Prime it all. Why don't you scaffold the whole house, bro? What if I could? Have you got no scaffolding in your garage? I don't have scaffolding. What are you doing? Nah, it's something my dad would have, scaffolding. How long have you been in that house for? 2018. And you've got no scaffold. Have you got scaffolding? Who doesn't have scaffold?

3:54Jason Hoyte:I've got scaffolding at my rental.

3:56Mike Minogue:No, you don't. Nah, I don't do house stuff. Your missus could do with some scaffolding right now. She could, yeah. She can bang together some scaffolding real good. To be honest, scaffolding's pretty fucking amazing. Like, scaffolding around a skyscraper? Yeah. Like, imagine looking at that and going, right, time to pack this sucker down. It's a lot of scaffolding, pugs. Yeah. Like, they would suck. Yeah, nah, heaps of it, actually. It was invented by the Egyptians. Really? What? Really? Cool They use bamboo though Not steel and clips Was that Egyptian? Yeah man Everybody knows that It is crazy when you go to Asia And they still All the high rises and stuff In some places They still have bamboo The whole way Yeah Bamboo scaffolding What?

4:39Mike Minogue:Who invented Bam No what is it? Scaffolding There we go They wouldn't have used it On the pyramid It says here Hoi J and Mogi Invented scaffolding Back in the day. Yeah, that sounds right. When they lent two pieces of bamboo up against a building. Spot on. And we're like, hang about. That's good. That could work. Hang about. The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.

5:07Jason Hoyte:The Hauraki Big Show podcast. I'm absolutely fried, eh? I'm ready to go home to bed. Couldn't tell by the old arse bandit brainstorm out there. That was quite entertaining. Well, it was good because it took a lot longer than it should have. But that's what happens. I agree. And the idea became pretty clear pretty quick. And yet it still required a lot of explaining. But it was all good. It was enjoyable. I literally got to the point where I wasn't sure how to explain it anymore because it had been explained so much that I didn't quite know. No, it was good. What other way I could put that?

5:41Mike Minogue:I liked it because that was the first time in ages that our boss has run the brainstorm. Usually the brainstorm is run by the commercial team Yes And they're very concise Like we've got three things Boom boom boom What do you guys think But it was our boss doing it this time And it took 25 minutes Because everyone decided That everything he asked We'd make a sexual joke out of Well didn't he start it? Well he started it by not knowing what bum buddy meant How did he not know? Did he not know though? I don't know No No he didn't It's like when we were doing the goat And he wanted to do the throat goat That's right The hunt for the best singer of all time Like he's hearing these terms, but he has no idea.

6:18Mike Minogue:And we were like, cool, so you want to do a countdown or whatever it is about people's – That's great. About the throat goat. Yeah, I'm keen on that. Who's your guy's throat goat? Oh, no, I was going to say a joke. I'm not going to. I don't know, Pugs. Who would be yours? Don't just swing that back at me.

6:34Jason Hoyte:That's a good question. Well, because, you know, just what I'm thinking about it, you could answer it. Yeah, just give me an example. Yeah, well, I'm thinking about it too, actually. Mogi, who's your throat goat? No, that's what I was saying to you. I'm thinking about it. No, but now I'm thinking – So, Chris, who would yours be? I can't think of anyone. Because I'm thinking about it. Could you do like a thought starter? You probably would be up there, Pugs. I think I started the thought in general. So if you have a thought to start, the response to my question.

6:55Mike Minogue:Probably your partner would be yours. Well, you have to say that. Oh, snot just came out. Did it? Oh, my God, it did. Are we recording this? Unfortunately, we can't say this.

7:09Jason Hoyte:Pugs, are we recording this? We can't say throat goat. Well, you have to say that because if you didn't say that, You know

7:16Mike Minogue:Yeah hard out Yeah Okay I love how For a point there You thought that I was Making a joke That your missus Well that was the way Yeah and you did well You did really You did really well Who would be yours Moggy Don't know Can't remember Must have been good

7:33Jason Hoyte:My partner's a good singer

7:36Mike Minogue:Is she I don't think she is She doesn't do it as much

7:38Jason Hoyte:These days She doesn't think she is

7:39Mike Minogue:She strikes me as someone Who gives it gusto She's a good rapper Okay well no

7:43Jason Hoyte:She's a good freestyle rapper. Nah, nah, nah. She gets a couple of beers in. She is freestyle rapping off the dome. And you know, like, even if the rhyme isn't, I've had a few and she's had a few. But the difference there is what makes her a good freestyle rapper is regardless of how shit the line is, she commits to saying it. Whereas for me, I'm like, no, no, no, no, no. As in, as she's coming up with them in her head, she's like, the sentence is being plotted out word by word and she commits. Even if it sounds dumb, She says it like it's swagged out, like it's a mean rap line. Instead of like me, Rose, I can't think of anything.

8:18Jason Hoyte:Yeah.

8:18Mike Minogue:Let's get her in here to do a freestyle rap then. About Pugson. Just about anything. She'd be good for it. Do you reckon she's good enough to come in here on the radio and do a freestyle rap for everyone? Well, she'd need a few beers first, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, well, she's always pissed up at work. Yeah, that's fair. She is. It's part of her job. To be fair, most people that work here are pissed up at work. But I also think, Pugs, you're still in that stage where you think everything's marvellous, you know? Yeah, soon that freestyle rapping will be driving you nuts We've lived together for half a year

8:48Jason Hoyte:Do you think that's still to come? How often is she rapping? Every time we get on the bus So every night Four or five times a week Yeah

8:56Mike Minogue:Right, okay

8:57Jason Hoyte:Never gets old Yeah, it will The freestyle rapping? Yeah Clearly you guys have never been freestyle rapped to My wife doesn't freestyle rap Yeah, I didn't think so My wife sings How about you, Maggie? She's not a freestyle rapper, no Yeah, I didn't think so No You guys are missing out? It's the thing that's keeping our marriage together.

9:13Mike Minogue:That she's not... Yeah, yeah. To show Smoky's a really good beatboxer. Yeah, I know. And the pair together would be awesome. They would be. But he just... Something's missing. Yeah. The rapping. Sorry, fellas. I think I'm going to have to have a Red Bull. You should do it, man. Shotgun. I'm fucking smashed a bit. What time did you get up? 4.30. Fuck what? Jeez, man. Is that just because? You do? I wake up and then I was awake and it's like, might as well get a bit of work done. but I made the mistake actually of looking at the time because you guys will have noticed, and we haven't talked about this on the show, but it started getting a bit dark in the morning.

Read the full transcript

9:49Yes. It was much darker in the morning. You won't know because you're asleep, Pugs, till about 10. Yeah. But it was much darker in the mornings there, and I made the mistake of looking at the time, and it was 4.30, whereas if I just thought it was 2, I would have gone back to sleep. Yeah. And then I ended up getting up and doing a bit of work. But I'm just fried. I just need a break.

10:08Jason Hoyte:6.30, by the way. I know it's not 4.30, but it's not 10.

10:12Mike Minogue:6.30 is when you got up? Why? To go for a run. Really? You set your alarm for 6.30 and went for a run? Yes. Mahi dog, man. I love it. I'm fucking serious about it. Look at this guy. You're staunch about it, man. Yeah, you're hardcore about it. I'm just a folder right now. How far did you go? 2K? 3. Yeah, that's right. That's a good amount. That's the amount. Hang on, why is that funny? Well, it's funny because you're so hardcore about it. What do you mean? I'm trying to build up my running. No, you're staunch. Why is that funny? You're being real staunch about it. Because you're being real staunch about it.

10:43Jason Hoyte:That's why it's funny. It was just so hardcore. You're a fucking mahi dog. That's why I got up at 6.30. But that's neither here nor there, fellas. You won't hear me banging on about it. Hey, this is a big show. Chat anyway.
