In short

A casual “outro” chat from The Hauraki Big Show about spring arriving, everyday habits and “things we always say,” plus light business fantasies and awkward personal-name privacy. They also discuss buying euros for a future Europe trip and share stories about banks, signatures, and random Instagram messages.

Guests

No guests are featured. The hosts are Keezie Mogi, Jase, and “Mog(i)” (Mogi), speaking together.

Key claims

Spring feels like it’s here because they got sweaty doing golf and gardening; banks don’t care about signature quality; buying euros early is smart for a planned Europe trip; running a small café/biz is more lifestyle than profit.

Notable examples

A Russell coffee courtyard “bolt hole” business fantasy; changing euros at a bank (not possible anymore); a random Instagram request involving “screwdriver” (from an old Tool Chat); jokes about not using wives’ names because coworkers/relatives listen.

0:15Keyzie:Yeah, man. Yeah. I was saying to Keezie Mogi just before and I'm really stoked about it. I did two outdoor activities today and on both occasions I got a sweat on. Right. And I was thinking to myself, it has been a fucking age since I've had a sweat. It's a changing of the season, fellas.

0:38Mike Minogue:Isn't that great, mate? That's good stuff, man.

0:39Keyzie:I was driving in today just looking at this beautiful sunny day and going, spring is here, boys. Spring is here. And that's filled me with a bit of joie de vivre. Just quickly.

0:49Mike Minogue:Yes. Before we started the potty, you went to say something and then you said, oh, no, don't worry, it's boring.

0:54Keyzie:Oh, no, because I think I've already asked you this. It must have been this. No, that was the exciting part.

0:58Mike Minogue:Oh, wow.

0:59Keyzie:All I'm saying is I feel a definite change, and it's a great thing. Okay, clip this off, would you? Send it straight to the radio. Because it's about to get freezing cold again. Yeah, probably. Yeah. But just for today, just for today, I was stoked. Yeah. I was in a really good mood. What were your activities you were doing? Golf and gardening. Fucking hell. We're going to have this for all of my yarns now. No, fair enough. That's good. Gives it a bit of flavour.

1:28Mike Minogue:Mo, question. Go on. Have you ever seen Jase wear that shirt? Look, I'm not great at noticing what people are wearing. Yeah. But for me, it feels like a no. Brown shirt with these little red and white little flag things on it, all over it. Pugs and I both have never seen him wear it. He's like, I wear it all the time. I've had it for ages. Certainly not all the time. Can I just say? Why do you get so like up? Like it's just a nice, I complimented on your new shirt. And then you were like, I always wear this shirt, Kesey. Is that how I do it? Do you not like it when people put spice on retelling your story?

2:04Keyzie:Can I just say, I've genuinely had this shirt for about five years, and as I said to you, Keezy, I haven't worn it for ages.

2:13Mike Minogue:Yeah, right.

2:14Keyzie:So that's probably why you feel like. But the question I was going to ask you, because I'm a doodler, and all I do is sign my signature. I think I've asked you this. Do you guys do that? No. No. Do you practice your signature? No. No. Okay, good. Mine's shocking now. Mine's shit. Yeah. Mine sucked. What I find is when I go to, having said that, I haven't been to a bank for a long time, but I used to get to a bank and have an anxiety attack and that would affect my signature because I'd be going, oh, my God, it looks nothing like my signature. But they don't actually give a shit. Well, they don't really.

2:47Keyzie:How long has it been since you fellas have been to a bank? What a great question.

2:53Mike Minogue:This is almost like first thing after 4Chat, to be honest. Yeah. I think the last time I went into a bank was to sign some papers for a new credit card because you have to do it in store. Mine was probably to go and pick up my wallet that I'd lost somewhere and somebody had handed it into the bank. I think that was it. I'm there every other day.

3:12Keyzie:I haven't been there in a bank for years. Yeah. Because I was looking at the euro and stuff. At the bank? You did that at the bank? Well, yeah, I was getting some changed over, just preliminary. That's funny you should say that because you can't do that at the bank anymore. Yeah, so I found out. So you go in there with euros? No, I was trying to change it to euros. When? My stripper money.

3:35Mike Minogue:Sorry, Jase, no, seriously. Without spitting a yarn about having stripper money and changing it to euro, why are you buying euro? Because of my trip to Europe. Oh, for next year. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

3:48Keyzie:That you guys got me the itinerary for.

3:50Mike Minogue:And you've decided that now is the best time to buy. You've looked at the rates.

3:53Keyzie:Look, I like to do everything and, B, have plenty of time, Keezy. Right, okay. I'm like one of those people that turns up four hours early to the airport.

4:01Mike Minogue:Yeah, right.

4:02Keyzie:All right?

4:02Mike Minogue:Because I don't want to be rushing. And yet we have a five-minute promo meeting and you're rushing everyone.

4:07Keyzie:That's true. Yeah, promo meeting's a different thing for me. I'm not a big fan.

4:12Mike Minogue:Would you love to have a job like being a cheese maker or like a winemaker where you just have to fuck around for ages and just wait for it? True story this, Mogie. Here we go.

4:23Keyzie:I was telling Keezy on the way to the car after commenting on how busy the bar was on the corner there, and he said, do you realise how often you've mentioned that? And I said, oh, I'm just curious about the service industry, Keezy. That bar must do well.

4:37Mike Minogue:Yeah. Once a week. But that's why you all do that. We've all got our standard shit that we say. Do I have one? I don't think what would mine be. But then. Jase, you need to sort your shit out. I was thinking about those lines. What are you doing? This is how you do it.

4:53Keyzie:No, he said, I feel like you say that quite a lot, but no, that's not my point of my story.

4:59Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast.

5:07Keyzie:I said, you know, there was this place up, we were talking about doing other stuff, up in Russell that was like this beautiful little, I don't even know how, like a bolt hole in the middle of Russell, and it was a coffee place, and it had a little courtyard, and it was thriving. People were having a great time. The guy behind the counter seemed like a good bastard, and we were there for a while, and we got to know him quite well and just loving it. And I said, I wouldn't mind doing something like that, Keezy. And Keezy was like, not much of a profit line. And I said, well, it's...

5:37Mike Minogue:I didn't say profit line. I said it'd be hard to turn a profit.

5:41Keyzie:You'll turn a profit. And I was like, well, that's not the point of what I'm saying. You're running a business. It's a lifestyle kind of scenario.

5:48Mike Minogue:I think in that case, you're freehold. You're doing it for the lifestyle. You don't need to turn a profit because as soon as you do. There's this romantic idea, but really what it is, is you sitting in the back room sweating over mounting poles of bills and wondering how you're going to meet the wages this week. That's right.

6:07Keyzie:Well, this is the thing. You won't have wages, only yourself. Oh, it's just you in there. Me and my wife. Oh, yeah. Who are indoors. But you're right. There wouldn't be much profit, I don't think. But in a situation like where he was, perfect prime location, he was busy every day and it wasn't even summer.

6:24Mike Minogue:I don't know, man. I don't believe it. I don't think he would, I don't know. But anyway, that was my little business fantasy. You should do it. Don't let us stop you.

6:32Keyzie:What about your brothel fantasy? Yeah, I don't want to talk about that. Wasn't like a hole in the wall brothel? That was just between us and the fellas. And like a beautiful spot up north. That me and my wife ran. Yeah. She'd be so into that You could be the muscle Yeah I'd be on the door Yes And she could be Oh no I'm not going to say that She Fucking hell man It was close man Can you stop putting my wife In these positions Keezy When you start talking about

7:01Mike Minogue:Mogi's wife more I reckon She's very scot-free man Yeah And she's up to some Weird shit She's

7:08Keyzie:She's dodgy as Yeah man

7:10Mike Minogue:Cause I've still got the situation Where My wife's manager listens to the show. Oh, yeah, that's right. So, like, any time it's like, oh, Keezy's wife's a bit of an odd fish. Yeah, I agree. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I agree about that and that it's weird if people are then talking to her about it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, like, oh, is she an odd fish? Yes.

7:29Keyzie:Same. I've got three or four of people that my wife works with that listen to the show regularly. And that's why I've never used my wife's name and that's why my mum's name is, what's my mum's name? Marge. Marge, yeah, yeah. Try and create a character around it.

7:41Mike Minogue:That's why my mum and dad's name are Mon and Don. That's right. They love it, though. Yes. They're like, oh, he's famous. Tell the modern Donna. I'm like, yeah.

7:50Keyzie:And my wife often says to me, because she has no idea what they're talking about, because she only listens for about 20 minutes on the way home from work. Yeah. That would be the extent of her listening to me. She might occasionally deli with one of our videos, and she'll go, I don't get it.

8:07Mike Minogue:Yeah, but she's a bit of a goose, though. Yeah.

8:10Keyzie:I want to tell her you said that, Keith. Imagine if I was like that whenever it happened to me. I'm going to tell her you said that, guys.

8:16Mike Minogue:You're going to be in trouble. I got messaged on Instagram by a random person and was just like, hey, can you do a favour for a mate of mine, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. He keeps saying, my wife, and he keeps saying, screwdriver, screwdriver, whatever that means.

8:31Keyzie:No, that was from Tool Chat. Screwdriver. Screwdriver, screwdriver. That was a Tool Chat.

8:36Mike Minogue:That's from like two years ago, and the guy's still screwdriver. Still doing it. How good. Can't even imagine what situation you'd use that in. Quite a few. While you're like working on some shit. What did he want you to do? Nah, it's a top secret thing.

8:49Keyzie:Oh, okay, cool. Oh, is it a guy thing?

8:52Mike Minogue:What do you mean, is it a guy thing? Just on the side. Yeah, yeah, it's basically, nah, I'm sick of saying this shit. Because you're going to clip it off and use it on the podcast bit, on the radio show. Eyes to the front, Keezy.

9:04Keyzie:Bloody Nora.

9:06Mike Minogue:That was a shocker. Jeez. Jase. Bloody hell, man. That was a shocker from you, man. I think that's the worst one you've ever done. Back to back as well. Oh, my God. Kese is filling up now. Jeez. A female walked past the window and Jase was just all over it.

9:25Keyzie:But it is. You see, I tell you, that's the other. Oh, no. What? Nothing.

9:30Mike Minogue:Here we go.

9:30Keyzie:Nothing. He's protecting something there. No, no, I'm all good.

9:35Mike Minogue:Sure? We've still got like five minutes to fill. No, we haven't. Damn. tried to trick you into...

9:41Keyzie:And I don't like the fact that this bush is encroaching on my computer. It's growing over my computer, Maggie. Did you hear the Agenda podcast today, man? Well, yeah. I really go on you. Keezy played a bit to me. Those fuckers are going to get it on air. I tell you what.

10:00Mike Minogue:Yeah, we'll give them a serve, Jase, man. We'll back you up, brother. Yeah. Yeah, sure you will. Hey, listen to the Big Show 4 to 7 weekdays on Radio Hauraki. It's really good listening. Thank you.
