In short

The hosts wrap up “The 03 Behind The Scenes” with off-mic banter about vaping vs Nicorette, a stag-do night (cigarette bumming, pokies winnings, music choices), travel/airport routines, and radio-show logistics/content. They also discuss a live show segment involving a “throbber” (live voting consequences) and crowd reactions to stings/songs.

Guests (hosts)

Jase, Mogi, and Keezy (regular Big Show crew). Backgrounds: radio presenters on The Hauraki Big Show; they reference working the show, studio habits, and live events around NZ (e.g., Christchurch rules; a pub near Taitapa).

Key claims

vaping is avoided indoors; Nicorette used to be the substitute; Mania Stewart is blamed for cigarette/durry chaos; the hotel stay was unexpectedly excellent; the “throbber” results were disliked but cheered by position.

Notable examples

bummed darts at midnight; winning $400 on pokies; obscure vinyl B-sides Keezy didn’t know; “Hoity J, best in the world, A number one” sting; “throbber” song choices including rage-style “Ooga shaka, ooga.”

0:01Mike Minogue:Do you know that song, Jase? Yes. Who sings it?

0:20Mike Minogue:Isley Brothers. Yeah. For all you mad bastards loving the Big Show podcast,

0:27Keyzie:Get up even closer on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok. Or Raw Dog It. 4 to 7 every weekend. On Radio Horek here. Good stuff, man. How are you, mate? You good? Hey, good, guys. Thanks. Excellent. You hung over today? No. What about you, Keezy? No. You're eating fucking sushi while we're on the mic, man. What are you doing? You're taking your lead off. The whole place has fallen apart since Hoity Janus has just started fucking vaping left, right, center and eating chips on the mic about a general piece of shit. I'm not going to vape inside, fellas. I promise you. All right? Wow. Wow, what's brought this about, man?

1:03Keyzie:Well, no, I just went, actually, I was just going to have a vape outside, and she's so shithouse, I just went, nah. Nah, it's all good. I just went to the studio. I'll just flag it. Why don't you leave it in your car? Nah. Well, what you guys don't realize is that what I used to do during the show was Nicorette, the gun. Yeah, right. You're not doing that now either? No. Oh, that's good. So now that I've got the vape, that's taken over from a Nicorette. So that's why I pop out, because normally I'd be sucking on a Nicorette. Nicorette better for you than sucking on a vape, is it? I'd imagine so.

1:38Keyzie:Certainly my lungs hurt less. You know what I'm saying? Are you still finding that? Yeah, not so much. Right, I was at less now. Yes. That's good. Yeah, but I had durries last night, Maggie. Oh, how are they? Really good. You know whose fault it was? It's no contest, is it? You know whose fault it was, eh? Yeah. Mania. Mania Stewart. Yeah. Oh, Mania Stewart.

2:00Mike Minogue:But also, Jason, you had durries, though.

2:02Keyzie:Yeah, well, that, because I went, oh, I'll just buy a pack. So how's it Mania's fault? It's not Mania's fault. He just bludged off me all night, that's all. Right. He goes, Jason, you got any darts? So more likely it's your fault. Well, it's my fault that I, I mean, I've only got myself to blame Mogi. That's right. You know what I mean? Well, you're blaming Mania. But what I'm saying is he did bludge off me all night. Yeah, sure. Does he ever buy cigarettes? Because he always smokes darts. Do you know him, Keezy? He's one of your good mates.

2:33Mike Minogue:I haven't really seen him buy darts very often. Although last night he tried to find a store to buy darts for everyone at about midnight and they were all closed.

2:41Keyzie:Right, yeah, unsurprisingly. Midnight.

2:45Mike Minogue:But that was because he bummed heaps of darts off this chick we were sitting with. Right. And then she was like, we need more darts. He said, I'll go get us some more and then couldn't find any. But this one time he won$400 while hungover on a pokies machine and then bought two 24 boxes of spades and three packs of darts for my entire stag do party. So I've seen him that, but that was a long time ago. So if he hits the lottery, he's willing to pay. That's good.

3:09Keyzie:Which is weird given he's on breakfast money. You know what I'm talking about? You're no argument from me, man. What time did you finish up, Jase, last night? I went back to my hotel room about half past seven. Yeah. It's a tradition. And it was a really nice hotel room, Moggy, but there was no sky. And that kind of fucked me a little bit. It was just your normal sort of terrestrial TV. What did you watch? I ended up watching Days of Wine and Roses on my phone. What the fuck is that? Yeah. It's a movie. It's an old movie. Yeah, right. Won a few Oscars.

3:44Mike Minogue:It's a very good movie. That hotel we stayed at was great, actually. I had very low expectations. Yes. And it ended up being probably one of the nicest ones I've ever stayed at. Is that right? Yeah, the name of it, I'll be honest with you. I was like, I'm not missing out much there, to be fair. No, no.

3:58Keyzie:But it was very nice. The exterior, you go, oh, dear. Right. I go, what are we heading into here? But then when you open the door, it was actually, oh, fuck, this is actually really nice. Right. Yeah, so.

4:09Mike Minogue:Manaya said he felt like he was going to get attacked by ring wraiths at any moment.

4:13Keyzie:Yeah, there was lots of Tudor stuff going on. Right. you know, Anne Boleyn sort of statues and that kind of carry on. Pugs had a shocker, actually. He was telling us this morning, didn't he, that he got home and then woke up in the morning and his door was wide open. Really? He just went to bed and fell asleep. Holy shit. What time did you get home, Keezy?

4:34Mike Minogue:I got home at 1.30. They got home at 3. We were all together at the same place. But it got to the point of the night where we were back at someone's place and they're just playing vinyl tunes to one another, real B-side obscure shit and I'm sitting there and great people and they're just like come on Keezy. Just pulling your pud. And then I'm just like sorry I just don't know any of this music. And they were all really talking about the music and stuff which was great and I was just like this is probably time for me to tap out.

5:02Keyzie:And apparently they had a really stinky dog. That fucking dog tried to attack me. Yes that was really. That's the second time you've had that. You had one that tried to. Savagely attacked only Keezy. Good that you managed to celebrate the birthday of Manaya.

5:14Mike Minogue:Yeah, it was good. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast. What time are you at the airport this morning?

5:27Keyzie:Ten. Oh, I mean, flight was ten. We got there about quarter past nine.

5:32Mike Minogue:I was quarter past nine. Yeah, good stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Loving it today, Keezy, man? To be honest, it's all G. This is my first coffee of the day. You've been asleep all day. I decided, nah, I was like, I won't have a coffee. I'll just have some food, hop on the plane, then get home and try a nap. Didn't work. Didn't work at all. So I'm just having a coffee now, and it's perked me up. Yeah. So fucking get ready for some great radio. Have a couple of beers, man. Have a couple of beers. To be honest, a beer would probably. Of course it would. Yeah, just even you out. Always, always.

5:58Keyzie:Just smooth the waters. A couple of delicious beverages on offer here, Keezy, man.

6:03Mike Minogue:There's no shortage, let's be honest. What did you get up to, Moggy? I worked. Are you joking? I worked. Yeah, it's good stuff. It's good stuff. It's been good having my mum here, and you've got to love it. I'm going to save it till Monday. I've got some pretty good content coming your way. Good stuff, mate. So that'll be good. I just have to wait and make sure that it's happening before I talk to you about it. That's going to be good stuff. Really? Yeah, it's going to be good stuff. Wow. Yeah, but it's been bloody good having mum there. I'm hanging out with my kid because it's school holidays.

6:36Not as much as I want to, but I'm just getting heaps of shit done. Good stuff. Which is buddy, going to the gym. You know this pain in the ass? Back in the gym, man.

6:44Mike Minogue:Radio show. Five days in a row. Hanging over here, you know? 100%. But also, you know, the opposite is true as well. About work being a pain in the ass for the radio. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. Like just then I had to do a text about work when I wasn't concentrating here, was I? But I had to do that. It's not good enough.

7:05Keyzie:Honestly, it's not good enough.

7:06Mike Minogue:It's not good enough.

7:07Keyzie:I find that when I'm sexting, the work gets in the way a bit. I heard about that last night Your sexting My sexting Was it your sexting or Manaya's mate? No it was a mate of Manaya's And this dude who was sitting next to him said Oh mate can I borrow your phone So I can I just need to message my girlfriend And he said oh yeah alright And then he took his phone For 15 minutes For 15 minutes Can I just hold on to it till she replies And his mate was like yeah alright And then he gave it back to him and left And he went on his phone And he'd been sexting his girlfriend It's like, what the fuck? Hell yeah, man.

7:43Keyzie:Piece of shit. It's a big dick move. I'd love to know what the exact details were. Because now, of course, if you're a single man, you're just going to start sexting. He's left. I can't believe he left the message on there.

7:54Mike Minogue:I think it's a big dick move. It's like, hey, I know you're going to read it. It's probably what it is. Yeah. He's probably like, wants you to get involved. Oh, really? Yeah. He's going to start cucking. Yeah, yeah. Cucking your duck. Anyway, was it a good time? Yeah. Looked like a good crowd down there?

8:08Keyzie:Yeah, it was a good crowd, man. It was a nice. Christchurch rules. Nice pub. Yeah, Christchurch's good. It was actually just down the road from where we did it outside that time. Oh, yeah? Taitapa. Yeah, right. It's a pretty place. Yeah, beautiful. Out in the country there. Good few handy there, it looked like. It looked like it was full. Yeah, it was full. Yeah. They did very good business, Mogi. Let me put it that way. Business Mogi. Oh, business Mogi, they call them. Like 10 times the turnover. I did hear somebody shout out, Hoere J, A1. Really? Yes. I was like that. Hoity J, A number one. Oh, best in the world, A number one.

8:46Oh, right. Which is the sting we've made. You know that sting that we've made for you, how you were saying that you're the best, right? So we made that sting. And then a guy shouted out, I think maybe when you won the throbber. Right. Or just before. But you guys obviously couldn't hear because we can. Yeah, it was great. Just one sole voice. Hoity J, best in the world, A number one.

9:05Keyzie:So good. So good. So, yeah, they're all catching on. And then funny the My Wife stuff had dropped off. No one was interested in that. Yeah, yeah, we put it out there, but no takers.

9:14Mike Minogue:I feel like when we put it out there, though, we kind of mistimed the wave. Right. So we put it out there just as they were already, like, murmuring about something else. Yeah, right. How did the... Throbber? No, no. Which I was surprised to hear a throbber, if I'm honest with you, on a Thursday. Yeah, yeah. But it's a good way to get through some content. Well done. But, like... And also the Tabasco sauce. How did Manai pull up?

9:38Keyzie:It actually fucked him, eh? It really fucked him. Because he was like, it's not going to be too bad, probably. And he did it in his reaction. I would have thought it would be totally fine as well. Yeah, it looked fine.

9:49Mike Minogue:It looked like a little Bloody Mary shot, but he was taken aback by it. But doing that live vote throbber at a live show fucking rules. It goes down so well. Especially having a consequence that somebody has to. Yeah, although their consequence was that no one really enjoyed listening to Hoardy J's throbber. But because he was third, they just cheered the loudest third. That's not true, man. I heard it live. And it sucks. Your song was fucking garbage. Manaya's was even worse. There was no choice. It's only ever going to be rage. Ooga shaka, ooga. Everyone would love to be honest with you.

10:20Keyzie:I was fully expecting to lose. Right. And so I was like, oh, okay. And then some obscure Nickelback song I'd never heard before. Yeah, I know. I was like, oh, fuck, actually. But there you go. How did the sting for, I can't remember the name of it, Meet Paddy Nip, 69 go? Was there a sing-along for that? Yes, there was, yes. Definitely. Yeah.

10:42Keyzie:And, yeah. What was that for just then? You just went, ah, and rubbed your face. Oh, you've just suddenly gone pale. What do you mean? You've pulled your hat back and you've gone very pale. Did you just get a wave of nausea? It was Jase going, yeah.

11:00Mike Minogue:For some reason, I was just like, oh, God.

11:04Keyzie:You're ready for a great show. They tuned into that was what I was saying, Mogi. It'll be sweet as, fellas. I love it. It'll be sweet as. It's good stuff, guys. I've got really itchy testicles at the moment, actually. You should just rub them up and down. You guys good with that?

11:18Mike Minogue:Yeah.
