In short

This “OUTRO: The Lost Live Outro” is a wrap-up from a live Big Show recording at a golf event at the Chasing the Fox course, with a Heineken Silver backdrop behind the 18th tee. The hosts describe extreme wind ruining shots, their improvised setup (mic window view, then sitting behind on a picnic table), and the event’s party atmosphere: 1,000 portaloos, frequent bars, and VIP tents costing about $500 per person. They discuss televised final-hole pressure, including Bryce Casey (The Rock) “shitting himself,” and a past John Keir hole-in-one that cost tens of thousands due to tradition.

Guests

0:00Keyzie:For all you mad bastards loving the Big Show podcast, get up even closer on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok or Raw Dog It. 4 to 7 every weekday on Radio Hood Aircare.

0:15Mike Minogue:Test, test, one, two, how are we sounding?

0:18Keyzie:Doosh, doosh, doosh. Doosh, doosh, doosh. You sound fine to me fellas. Backbone, backbone. I tell you what, we're here at the Chasing the Fox and probably the most bizarre set-up we've ever been set up in. I was trying to think of one other.

0:33Mike Minogue:Well, there was one in Rotorua where the set-up was that we told no-one we were coming down and then we did it in a bar that was empty with one man reading a novel in front of us. Oh, that's right. Yeah, that was weird. Oh, that's right. I had to leave. Yes. Yeah. But what's happened is we've got this amazing spot, the Heineken Silver backdrop. Right behind the 18th tee box. Best spot in the whole house. It's the final hole. It's a great view.

0:58Keyzie:Great view straight down the gut. This is the hole that is televised on TVNZ. It's the only hole that's televised. Oh, is that right? I actually thought it was all of them. No, no, just this one. Just this one.

1:07Mike Minogue:And right behind where they're teeing off is a window cut out where we were sitting with microphones set up, just watching the whole thing. It's so windy that we are now on a picnic table behind the set up. So we can see nothing. We can see nothing, but at least the wind is in our faces.

1:22Keyzie:Yeah. Well, I've got to say, because we played earlier today, didn't we, fellas? And she has been blowing a kind of gale most of the day. Ruined some absolutely sublime shots from all of us. Yeah. You know, just straight down the guts, and then the wind caught it and took it into the bush or into the water or into this long grass. Or into the mangroves. Mangroves. Yeah. I'm really intrigued by the shirts we're running here, actually. I mean, I'm running a kind of regular hoity J. I don't even know. I mean, it's my favourite one with the Herons. It's a Heron shirt. I'm intrigued by your guys' shirts.

2:00Keyzie:They're very, I don't know how to describe them. Well, I guess the thing is this is also sort of doubling as our end-of-year work party, isn't it? Yes, that's right. So this is sort of a slightly more, this sort of looks a little marginally unsuit. I think actually we're probably better dressed for the golf course that we're at, Keezy. Yes, you're right. It seems like to me. Yes. It's not the sort of thing I'd wear into work. No. At all. Well, you normally wear your tighty-whighty, mate. I do, mate, and that's not appropriate here. So I've covered up the tighty-whighty with this stripey ribbed sort of shirt.

2:33Yeah, it is very ribbed. It's ribbed.

2:35Keyzie:And Keezy's is like a mesh.

2:37Mike Minogue:It's like a mesh. So, Jase, what you're seeing here is my Euro get-up.

2:41Keyzie:Okay.

2:41Mike Minogue:So imagine me in Tuscany in a piazza, which is a plaza. Yes. I'm wandering around. It's 9 p.m. We're just starting to think about having dinner. I've got a white singlet underneath tucked into my shorts. Yeah, that's kind of weird. And then an open sort of, yeah. Oh, you've got ribbing on your vest. Ribbed singlet, yeah. I've got some ribbing. I've got a ribbed vest. No ribbing or mesh.

3:02Keyzie:No, you're left out there. Yeah, but that's okay. Could I wear this in a piazza, Kesey? A piazza. A piazza. I'd say only if you had your butt, you'd have to be unbuttoned a little bit more. Oh, show a bit more chest? Yes. Okay.

3:14Mike Minogue:And you'd have to have like a gold chain or something, and you'd have to have a glass of wine in one hand whilst talking and moving your hands along.

3:20Keyzie:Yeah, it's smoking a dart. I reckon that would suit me quite well, actually. What? That kind of set-up. I could do some gold chains in the durry. I think so.

3:29Mike Minogue:I mean, that's what you're already doing, just with a gold chain.

3:33Keyzie:And also our view now, I've just noticed, is Portaloos.

3:37Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Kesey Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki

3:48Keyzie:One of the most beautiful courses you'll ever see and we're looking at Portaloos That's right, it is a bit of a bastard that this is how it's worked out and we are we're going to see humanity at its worst I think as the day progresses there is going to be some absolutely leathered individuals To their credit here, unlike most events that are run in New Zealand, there's a bar every 10 metres. Yes. There is 1 ,000 Portaloos. Yeah. So they're having a win there already in my eyes. Well, look, Muggie, just on that front, I was actually just walking around and a young lady came up to me and said, would you like a drink?

4:23Keyzie:And I went, oh, yes, thank you. And I said, what is it? And she was like, vodka and cranberry or something. And I went, oh, no thanks then. No thanks, yeah. But you're right, I'm picking there'll be a few maybe sort of... ...later on perhaps. There's a quite steamy, there's a lot of alcohol around.

4:50Keyzie:And watch...

4:57...Silver Lounge, which is one of the...

5:04Maybe three tables up there, and it's sitting right above the tee box, so you're looking straight down the final hole here, and they've just been served with buckets of beer and ice, and the boys are absolutely fizzing for it. The guy that actually won it, he is meant to be at his own work too. He said, nah, I'm not going to that. Yeah, nice.

5:26Keyzie:From recollection, fellas, wasn't one of them a greenkeeper? He is. He is a greenkeeper. The guy that won it absolutely is. He'll be loving this then. He is. He's absolutely frothing it. And the guy he's brought used to be a greenkeeper as well, so they love their golf. And he said he just rides around all day and listens to our podcast.

5:45Mike Minogue:Oh, how good. Far out. That's not good for you. The interesting thing is the prize that they've got, the seats they've got, the location, the cost to be in the VIP tents further down there, not as good. Yeah. Also with free drinks and food. More people. A lot more people queuing up. about 500 bucks per person. 500 bucks. And so this is like, you get to watch it over the shoulder of the people teeing off. And they're being served. And you're being served. How good, fellas. Fucking awesome. And for them to be able to do that and then look over their shoulder down and we're on a picnic table behind them, I mean, that is, that's an amazing prize, isn't it?

6:22Keyzie:Yeah, well, you know, as Maggie said, I mean, I think the set up here is really nice and already the people are, because I think it kicks off officially at 5.30. and I can tell you actually on that front there were some very nervous players knowing that their golf game is going to be televised to millions of people. Bryce, for example. Bryce Casey. Bryce Casey from The Rock. Lovely bloke. I had a little chat to him out the front. He was shitting himself.

6:49Mike Minogue:Well, the issue with that is because Bryce is a, he grew up playing golf. Like, he's a good golfer. And the thing that he's done incorrectly is think that anyone's expecting anything off of him. It is, yeah. We don't, like, I would get more joy out of seeing Jeremy Wales, Di Henwood and Bryce Casey all slice it into the crowd. That's what I want to see. And if one of them just so happens to get it anywhere vaguely near the green, great. Or smack it, you know, because

7:13Keyzie:I remember one famous video of this and it was with John Keir. We talked about it the other day where he was driving and he smacked it straight into the crowd. Yes. And it fulled it too. I was surprised to learn, actually, that he'd hit a hole-in-one in this competition. The video of that is pretty amazing, actually, and that really set the Chasing the Fox on fire. It was his first ever hole-in-one. Wow. The big problem that you've got in an event like this is there's thousands of people, and he had to shout the clubhouse as his tradition when you get a hole-in-one, and it cost him tens of thousands of dollars.

7:47Well, to be honest, if anyone's going to do it,

7:51Mike Minogue:it's him and Hoity J. I can tell you how much sympathy I've got for him. Yeah, zip. Jase, if you hit a hole-in-one, and you're probably the only other person that could afford it, right?

7:58Keyzie:Yeah, probably. Probably everyone that's here today, actually, to be honest with you. Yeah, exactly. There's a bit of money going around this joint. Yes.

8:05Mike Minogue:Well, that's what I was saying. It is a bit like it's obviously great, but it's a weird vibe, especially the after parties and things, because you've got the who's who of, like, important, well-known people. Yes. And then you've got the who's who of very wealthy people who are paid to be there. That's right. It's a really weird vibe. And so, to be honest, I'm probably going to have as many free beers as I can, and watch the event and probably not hang around for the after party. Go into town. Well, yeah, I've never been to this thing before, but that sounds like about what I'll be doing. To be fair, I did stay for about an hour and a half last time.

8:36Mike Minogue:Right. And it was sweet. You find a few people that you have a yarn to, but it just gets a bit weird when it's all the big names and the rich people hanging out. Yeah, I feel like I shouldn't be here.

8:45Keyzie:I've got a bit of a headache, and as soon as we've done them, I pass off. I've got one too. It's the breeze and the glare, I think, Maggie. And my super tight hat on my massive head.

8:56Mike Minogue:I like that you're sticking to the hat though What's that? You're sticking to the hat Well I took it off But now I'm getting blasted in the face I don't want people out there to think we're not grateful No it's brilliant It's fucking awesome This is yet another example of the big show Getting an opportunity to do something That people very rarely get to do And so I am very very grateful Fuck it listen to that wind though man I'm listening to the fat beats I think Pugs is on the DJ set Because there's nine songs playing at once Well listen fellas That's enough for the podcast outro the music started playing.

9:24Mike Minogue:I love you guys. Yeah, we love you, man. Love you. Are we saying love you? Oh, we love you, man. Love you, man. Love you. Bye, man. Oh, thanks, man. Big show, 4 to 7 weekdays, Radio Hodaki. See ya. Bigger wheeze.

9:38Keyzie:Oh, for fuck's sake.
