In short
A casual end-of-show chat about New Zealand weather, nicotine/vaping habits, and frustration with modern “replace not repair” culture—especially coffee machines—plus admiration for handyman “backbones.”
Guests
No guests; it’s the hosts bantering (Jay, Mogey, Keezy, Siggy, Casey/Pugs mentioned).
Guest backgrounds
Not provided beyond roles as co-hosts.
Key claims
High humidity/heat with unexpected rain is “bizarre”; vaping is going badly for one host while smoking one cigarette caused inflammation; businesses prefer replacing expensive machines (e.g., $900) rather than fixing cheap parts; warranty replacements repeat the same failure after ~3 years; “built to last” craftsmanship is contrasted with planned obsolescence.
Notable examples
Coffee machine leaks after 3 years; inability to find replacement cups; granddad’s silver workmanship certificate claiming 100+ years; floating shelves and hanging pictures.

0:17Keyzie:Yeah man, g'day fellas. Hi.
0:21Mike Minogue:Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. What a weird old day it's been, eh? Is it? Very bizarre. You guys are weird with your weather How things are bizarre No today was bizarre It wasn't weird
0:33Keyzie:It was not meant to rain for a start Not according to my forecast it wasn't Hold on to Jay's forecast Get the app wherever you get your apps It was just steamy Mogey It was so steamy
0:43Mike Minogue:It was 93 % humidity Which is a high for New Zealand In history No it's just very very high for our standards And it was 28 degrees in Auckland today Which is the hottest it's been in like a month And raining It's just weird It's weird, Moggy. Something weird going on. Something's going on.
1:01Keyzie:My builder wasn't happy today. He was banging away at the doors there going, this weather fucking sucks ass.
1:07Mike Minogue:What did you say?
1:08Keyzie:You would have connected with him. Tell me about it, man.
1:11Mike Minogue:Were you like, shut up and get back to work? Yeah, shut it. How's the vaping? Bit of weather, Mo. Oh, yeah, true. Ever. Talk to me again. How's your vaping going? Badly. Really? He's back on it. Are you back on already? Oh, but Keezy, you showed so much faith in him, man. You can't do that. You're only going to let yourself down. Jase, hang on. What are you doing, man? Fellas, when I say badly, I mean, it sucks. You're not enjoying the fact that you're not on it, but you haven't vaped. Yes. Have you vaped? No. Siggy? No. All right. In that case, I'm stoked. I had one cigarette on the weekend. Five days?
1:47At the wedding there. Yeah, that's all right, man.
1:51Mike Minogue:Was it good? One would have triggered 50 for me. It's good in the sense that it was shit. You've talked about this before. You have a one-off diet and you go, this isn't even that great. Yeah, it made me – it kicked up all my little – like being a bit snotty inflammation again. Straight away. Yeah, so the next day I was like a little bit coughy, a little bit snotty. It's like, yeah, it's just not it. It's not conducive. No, but it was good. I wasn't like that, which I would normally be. You have 100. Yeah. One was like, yeah, this isn't it. Is it the no alcohol thing as well? Certainly. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
2:25But it's good to know that the, yeah, because if I was, it's a real bastard because I used to just be able to smoke Rollies and it was all good. But now even if I smoke Rollies, I just get inflamed and snotty and coughy. It's pretty gross.
2:37Keyzie:I might just go back to Rollies. Oh, Jase, just. You should, man. Rollies are where it's at. Yeah. Only$100 a pack. 30 gram. Yeah, I know. It's fucking insane, eh? Yeah. The last time I bought a 50 gram pack, it was like$157. And I was like, fucking hell.
2:57Mike Minogue:How many durries is that?
3:00Keyzie:40, 80, four packs. It would probably last me about two weeks.
3:05Mike Minogue:Still so expensive. That's like 80 bucks a week. Yeah. That's fucked. Well, it would have not last you that long. A 30 gram, you're lucky if it lasts you a week.
3:17Keyzie:Yeah. And if you're smoking 10 a day, because I think it's roughly a pack and a half, two packs of 30-gram. Yeah. Yeah. And you're on 10 a day. One of the things, because our coffee machines shat the beer. Has it, mate? Fuck. Here he goes. And it's really interesting, isn't it? You know, it's a pretty good machine. It's worth about$900. Wow.
3:38Mike Minogue:All money bags. Mine's about$1 ,500. Oh, rich guy. Right. You got yours for free, though. I certainly did.
3:44Keyzie:And it's a really good machine. but when it comes to repairing something like that everyone's like oh just fucking don't worry about it and it's like I'm not going to just fucking biff it it's probably literally just a little tube or something that's leaking it started leaking water
4:04Mike Minogue:it can't be that hard to replace I'm sure if you pull the side of it off bring it in and take it out to his shed and have a tinkle with it let it all tinkle with it
4:12Keyzie:it's fucking terrible It is. It's shocking, Jase. Do you remember when there used to be a bit of pride, man? Totally. There used to be TV repairmen. They'd come around to your house and they'd fix it. And people would build a product and they wanted it to last a lifetime. Now they want it to last two years, so you buy another one.
4:26Mike Minogue:My granddad, my dad's dad. Dad-dad. Dad-dad. We used to call him. We used to call him. Dad-dad. Oh, Dad-dad. He made a living. A living. A living. A living. What an out-of-account. Dad-dad made a living. I'm a wee bit spaced out for some reason. I don't know why. But he made a living repairing appliances. Yes. And so he was like. Love it. Yeah, and his back shed was full of like old elements of toasters and just bits like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And he knew how to fix them all. How good. I love it.
4:54Keyzie:I love that shit.
4:55Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast.
5:03Keyzie:But this is the point I was making. It was like, you know, the people that make it are like, oh, don't worry about it. Just get a new one. And there was like we found about two places around Auckland that fix coffee machines. Yeah. And it's like, what the fuck? We've got a Breville, like a Nutribullet thingy. Yes. But it's not a Nutribullet. It's a Breville something or other. We've had it for seven or eight years. Yeah. It's fucking unbelievable. Amazing. We had to get a Nutribullet, a different thing that cost us God knows how many hundreds of dollars because we couldn't find replacement cups.
5:36Ah, yes. Yes. They've stopped making the cups. You couldn't get the cups anywhere. Yes. And the wife couldn't get the cup thingy out because it would just get stuck because it's just old. Just fucked. So you get a new one. The motor and everything is completely fine. Garbage. Yeah. Chuck it in the bin. It's shit, hey.
5:53Keyzie:It is.
5:54Mike Minogue:It's really shit. There's a mindset from businesses too, though, that if you sell something that's really good but breaks quick, then they have to buy another one. As long as it's good. Well, that's exactly what it is. And then shit.
6:04Keyzie:Well, this is a really interesting thing about the coffee machine we had. We had exactly the same one before, and after three years, and the same's happened again, after three years it did this. So we took it back, and it was under warranty or something. We said, oh, we'll just give you another one. We were like, sweet, okay. So they gave us a new one. Three years down the track again, it's done exactly the same thing. And it's like, we'll fix it for fuck's sake.
6:31Mike Minogue:Isn't it interesting? They'd rather give you a$900 coffee machine for free than replace a 20 cent part. Yes. It's crazy. It's crazy shit. It is bullshit. Can I say it's PC gone mad? It's PC gone mad, Mogey. It's woke mafia shit. It is. And funnily enough. You know who's responsible? Libtards. Libtards.
6:54Keyzie:Why don't we fix it, man? Bring it in and we'll fix it. He'll never bring it in. What am I talking about? No, it's already been delivered to another place. But, you know, I found this, I was cleaning out my sort of side shelves and shit, which I haven't delved into for about 20 years. And I found something from my granddad's bowls days. Oh. And it was, it's kind of like. Was it his balls? No, it wasn't. I've got his balls. I actually do have his balls. Right. But it was this sort of little trophy thing made of silver and stuff. And it had a little certificate with it. Right. Which basically said this workmanship will last for over 100 years.
7:31Keyzie:is this is what you do to maintain it, blah, blah, blah, blah. And I was like, how good is that? You know what I mean? Built to last. Built to last forever. Cost more. Used to cost more, but last longer. Last forever. And people used to put things on lay-boy, which isn't so much a thing now, where you get it, where you don't get it, you have to pay it off, and then you get it. Lay away. Because there never used to be credit. Yeah. There was no such thing as credit. You had to, you could, there was only the existing money in the world.
7:58Mike Minogue:Yes. now there's more money that doesn't exist than actually exists. Yes. You know what I'm saying? Yes, I do. It's PC gone mad, Keezy. It's just crazy. You know what I blame? Who? The libtards.
8:08Keyzie:I tell you. But seriously, I mean, what, your granddad, that's great. Yeah. I love the idea of, because I have such massive admiration for people that fit shit.
8:19Mike Minogue:Yeah.
8:20Keyzie:You know, and even just having people around my house and I'm just going, what a fucking backbone. You whack that out, you saw this back, you do this, You fucking pack it out
8:28Mike Minogue:It's also a very satisfying thing though My wife and her friends Think that Come on Jase I was like halfway through a yarn there man Now it's derailed
8:40Keyzie:What were you saying man
8:43Mike Minogue:Her friends are like Oh your husband's so handy Like me It's like I'm actually not that handy But all of their partners They just don't even try to hang up a picture frame Or put up a floating shelf Or anything like that It's actually really simple to do Well, you've just got to keep on having a crack, don't you? 100%, and you'll fuck it up a few times. But then you'll be like, oh, okay, now I know how to do it.
9:03Keyzie:Now I know how to fuck it real good. I mean, I'll hang a picture. Oh, yeah? But I couldn't build floating shelves.

9:10Mike Minogue:You don't have to build them. You don't have to build them. They come pre-built.
9:13Keyzie:Yeah. Well, we've got two in our kitchen, right?
9:18Mike Minogue:Yeah.
9:18Keyzie:But the guy that put them in, he said they're a fucking prick of a thing to do.
9:22Mike Minogue:Why is that? I don't know. They shouldn't have been. It's useless.
9:25Keyzie:What I've also found out is that our house is just all out of whack.
9:28Mike Minogue:See, that'll be it because it needs to be flush against the wall. Yeah. And you put like a bracket thing and then this floating shelf slides onto it. Yes. As long as you've got it in the stud there. Speaking of studs. What? A photo of my face on Chapel Rhone. Is that? I can't see.
9:42Keyzie:I didn't. I couldn't see it was your face. That is pretty good. That's really good. Have a look at that, Casey. It's really good.
9:50Mike Minogue:Is that going to get pinged on Instagram? Yes, it is.
9:56Mike Minogue:You like that photo, do you? Well, it's actually real smooth. Look at him. God, he's a backbomb. Good work, Pugs. It's a way to do it, man.
10:03Keyzie:I'm so used to my face being transplanted onto all sorts of shit. Oh, we didn't even talk about anything today, fellas. But here's to all the backbones out there. Yeah, the hard work and fixer-upper is.
10:16Mike Minogue:Hey, listen to The Big Show, 4 to 7 weekdays, radio. Haorake.
