In short
The hosts do an “outro” segment for The Hauraki Big Show, promoting upcoming Beer and Pie July live from Monteith’s Bar (Bridge, Prebbleton) on Thursday 10 July from 4pm, plus a behind-the-scenes trailer read. They then chat about coffee habits (cutting from ~8–10 cups to two; “mud water”/decaf debate), and a relationship “languages of love” discussion focused on receiving gifts, acts of service, physical touch, and words of affirmation.
Key claims
decaf is “disgusting” and mud water is a better alternative; partners show love via gift-giving and service.
Notable examples
free Backbone tea and West Coast Pie Company pies at the event; “mud water” ad; “grab ass” banter; tea-making and not burning milk.

0:01Keyzie:Yeah, man. For all you mad bastards loving the Big Show podcast, get up even closer on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok or Raw Dog It. 4 to 7 every weekday on Radio Horete. Yeah, man.
0:19Mike Minogue:G'day, fellas. G'day, Kessie. G'day, Mavie. Oh, that's so true, man. Shit, I've just remembered we've got to voice this trailer thing on the liner dock. Oh, yeah. Should we just voice it as part of the podcast?
0:30Keyzie:Yeah, sure.
0:31Mike Minogue:You know what I mean?
0:32Keyzie:Then I'll have to go into my phone and find it on the liner, Doc. Do you think people will be interested in hearing it?
0:38Mike Minogue:No, I mean, it's just knocking off two birds, one stone, hoity J. It's not about it.
0:41Keyzie:It kills a couple of minutes as well, J. It kills it, man. Oh, right. So you mean Pugs just clips it out of the podcast? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, okay. Yeah, sure. And we'll voice it.
0:48Mike Minogue:And it's interesting behind the scenes stuff. Is it? Yeah, I reckon. Okay. I mean, I'd love to hear my favourite podcast doing this.
0:56Keyzie:Let me just find it then.
0:58Mike Minogue:Okay, it should just be top of the dock, man. Yeah, yeah, okay. So we run a big show dock. How come I'm not in this one? What?
1:05Keyzie:Oh, right, yeah, I see what it's for now. All right, away you go there, Keezy. Oh, yeah. Oh, no, it's me first, isn't it? Let me just expand that up a bit so I can actually read it. Good on you, mate. Great people of Christchurch. Great, great, oh, bloody things are coming up on my phone as I'm trying to read it. Great people of Christchurch. It's Hoity J and Keezy from the Radio Hodaki Big Show. We've teamed up with the backbones from Montice to bring the taste of the West Coast to you for Beer and Pie July.
1:39Mike Minogue:Yeah, and to celebrate, we're doing the show live from the Montice Bar, the bridge in Prebleton, next Thursday, the 10th of July. This Thursday. Two different options there, just people listening. Yeah, on the day. Is it okay that Joe said Christchurch instead of Canterbury? It was pretty weird. Monteith's is on tap. Did I?
1:58Keyzie:Oh, sorry, man.
1:59Mike Minogue:That is so unprofessional. My bad. God. Monteith's is on tap, and those that come early will not only get a free backbone tea, they'll also get to devour a West Coast Pie Company pie.
2:10Keyzie:Bear and Pie July with Monteith's and the Hauraki Big Show. Next Thursday, 10th of July, the Bridge Prepleton. This Thursday, the Bridge Prepleton. See you there from 4pm.
2:22Mike Minogue:Yeah, and so they will cut it together. You've got two trailers, one for the day of. and then one for leading up to.
2:28Keyzie:That's great multitasking right there. Did you say multitasking? Yeah, multitasking. Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. You and G? Yeah, man. Had too much coffee today. How many?
2:41Mike Minogue:I was wondering why I was a bit wide. I don't know.
2:43Keyzie:Really? Lost track? You lost track of how many you had. Well, I just have stovetops, you know. Yeah. Yeah, so I don't know. I'm a big fan of a little stovetop. Same here, man. Because that's the only option. I've never had one. That's the only option at the batch. Yes. And I'm actually quite fond of them. They're bloody good. But I've cut back to two a day now, which is bloody good for me. You don't need to say that as me. Because he normally drinks the most in the world. I used to drink about 20, and now it's down to two. So that's pretty good.
3:10Mike Minogue:There's such a stupid amount of coffee to drink. It was a stupid amount. Is it not true?
3:14Keyzie:Well, it would be eight to ten. No, I know. That was an exaggeration. But maybe eight to ten. That is really weird. It was stupid, but that's just what I do. It's okay, man. You live and learn. Well, that's right. And I'd punch darts at the same time, you know. Yeah, man. It was good.
3:31Mike Minogue:Were you having them because you needed a boost? How good. No, I just got into the habit of doing it.
3:36Keyzie:Yes. And that was all it is. Nice with a dart as well. Very nice. Yeah. But, you know, I don't need them so much anymore. It's good.
3:46Mike Minogue:So chill, man. Yeah. Yeah, man. Do you ever just drop the coffee completely?
3:50Keyzie:No. I did see this stuff called mud water. which apparently is the same kind of thing, except without the heinous caffeine and the ups and downs. That's funny because that's what your wife calls the coffees you make her. Yeah. Except they have milk in them. Yeah. Well, you could just have decaf. No. I'll never, ever stoop to the level of decaf.
4:16Mike Minogue:This is like an interesting thing, right? And you're doing it, and Mania is a shocker for it on the breakfast show. Yeah. is he's like, oh, man, trying to go to sleep last night. And my missus came in after him because she doesn't need to get up as early as he does. Phone on, really bright, blah, blah, blah, blah, woke me up. I'm like, why don't you sleep with an eye mask on? He's like, I'm not sleeping with an eye mask on. I was like, okay, cool, then don't solve the problem you're having. So you like coffee and you'd say you wanted to drop out. You'd rather drink mud water than drink coffee that doesn't have caffeine.
4:43Keyzie:Which is much better for you, which is decaffeinated coffee is just. What? It's just a drink. I just can't bring myself to do it. I just can't. Have you ever had it? Yes. And? It's disgusting.
4:57Mike Minogue:Really? Worse than mud water?
4:58Keyzie:Well, I've never tried mud water, to be fair. It was only actually when I was driving in today that I heard about mud water as an advert. And I went, oh, I could give that a crack.
5:07Mike Minogue:Mud water? Yes. Sounds good.
5:09Keyzie:It's not the greatest marketing name of anything I've ever heard. That's pretty catchy. Mud water? Mud water? It's worked on you. Yeah. Apparently mud water. But it was in America, so I don't even know if you can get it here. America.
5:23Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast.
5:31Keyzie:But maybe hopefully I'll get down to one a day. We don't know. We just don't know.
5:35Mike Minogue:I want to get down to, I'd love to go to none. Yeah. I'd love to, but it's so delicious. Should we try and do none, eh? Should we try and do none? See who can do the least coffees in a month. How about that? Yeah. Should we do that? Not until after I get back from my holiday, but yeah. Sure. The thing for me would be - That's a great - Can you imagine how pumped people would be about that in terms of contes on the radio?
5:58Keyzie:I think you and I would be making weird noises just frantically. I'd probably feel a lot better. You probably would,
6:04Mike Minogue:because you've had a shitload of coffee and you're really tired right now. Whereas the thing is, if we don't ever have coffees - Yeah, that's right. And I was wired before as well, but I normally don't get a burst out of coffee, but before I was like, man, I'm feeling weird. It's probably because I've been drinking three litres of coffee. But if we all never have coffee, we're always just pretty great.
6:21Keyzie:But then it'll be no coffee, no durries, no booze. I mean, all the joy in my life will be gone. No sex. Well, you're still sucking on that.
6:28Mike Minogue:Oh, the vape.
6:29Keyzie:The vape nonstop. Yeah. So a golf, man.

6:32Mike Minogue:Yeah, true, true. Still got your yellow skivvy that you're wearing.
6:36Keyzie:Would you say that was yellow? I'd say that was more khaki. It's definitely green.
6:41Mike Minogue:I'd definitely put that on and then have a cup of mud water. I reckon that's the kind of shirt that is.
6:47Keyzie:Yeah. That's Rich giving the jacket you're wearing His jacket's cool And remember when you Your hoodie's not sticking out though, Keezy You need your hoodie out When you criticise my clothes You're actually criticising my wife Yeah, well that's exactly why he does it So she bought you that Yes Is that second hand? She's a cracker And she bought me a She got a great situation She bought me a golf umbrella yesterday Oh wow I didn't ask for it She just said, oh You said it rained on the golf course the other day so I bought you a golf umbrella. I wonder what she's bought herself. She just likes buying things, doesn't she?
7:20Keyzie:She does? Yeah. Well, case in point, two parcels today. Yeah. One yesterday. Yeah. None on Monday. Well done. But it's very part of the course. Where does all the stuff go? She wears a lot of it. Right. A lot of it's clothes. Yeah. And to be fair, her wardrobe's getting flasher and flasher. Fuller and fuller.
7:39Mike Minogue:Well, it's a sign that old Hoity J's doing well, you know? Yeah, man. Hoity J's rolling in it, brother. And because you've still got a poor dude mentality, even though you are loaded.
7:49Keyzie:I do. You do, though. I'm so loaded. I do. I think I always will have.
7:56Mike Minogue:Do you think it's changed a little bit? Yes. Good. Yeah. Because you deserve it, man. You deserve the world, man. You work hard, man. If you were my man, I would give you the world. Would you, Mogi? Yeah, I would. I wouldn't. I'd give you a yellow sweater.
8:11Keyzie:It's khaki.
8:11Mike Minogue:Sorry, khaki, whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
8:13Keyzie:And that was, to be fair, that was meant to be a golf thing as well. Oh, yeah. I don't know why. I think she's just trying to make me happy by buying me stuff. What a bitch. Well, you know, she's a gift giver, which is how she shows love.
8:26Mike Minogue:Yes. Because one of the different types of. The languages. Yeah, the languages of love. Acts of service. We should do this on air, actually. I think we've done it. Have we?
8:34Keyzie:And just on that, she definitely is. She's one of those people that has to get everyone a present. She's always on to birthdays, always on to anniversaries, always on it. It's annoying, isn't it? Yeah, we have done that. Just bang, bang, bang. Hoody Jizz, there's physical touch. Yes. Quality time, words of affirmation, acts of service, helping people out, receiving gifts or giving them.
8:57Mike Minogue:Yeah. Yeah. Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts? Which one do you get more joy out of?
9:06Keyzie:Giving. I love receiving. Really? I prefer getting... Do you guys tick most of those boxes in terms of your partners? I think I do. Oh, I do, yeah. Yeah.
9:19Mike Minogue:I think I could be better at words of affirmation. Oh, really? I think I could be better at telling my wife she's beautiful and all that sort of stuff. Oh, I'm really good at that. Yeah, but... But that's also not what you... I think you... You do what you want. You do what you want. You put out the thing that you need back. Yeah, right. Yes. Yeah, actually. You don't necessarily need to be told you're beautiful. Nah. But you're doing a good job, Keezy. I want you to know that, man.
9:47Keyzie:All right? Thanks. You're doing a great job. I just say to my wife, I tell my wife she's hot. Yeah, but that's sort of, they don't like that. She's hot. Yeah, that's kind of pissy. She's a hot. They hate it, yeah. She's a hot mama. I said that to the wife. She's like, nah, not that. Nah. Not hot. What about sexy? Sexy, I say that all the time. You're a hot piece of ass. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'd play grab ass with you. Should we fire up a game of grab ass? I think I'm pretty good on the affirmations. Who's in for a game of grab ass? Grab ass. What was that from again?
10:21Mike Minogue:That was yesterday. Me, apparently, came in on Friday. Oh, yeah, grab an ass. Grab an ass, man. Yeah, because you were Steve. Oh, Keezy was. A game of grab ass. Looking into the old grab ass. Shit, yeah. But I think I can be better at that. But I always assume that she knows that I think she's beautiful. Yeah, you can't assume that, man. Yeah, so I've just got to say it a lot. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, what do you like, Kesey? Not physical touch. I think I like acts of service. I want them to serve me. Yes. Service you. No, but like, yeah, well, obviously physical touch. I love physical touch, actually.
10:51Mike Minogue:And you'd be the same, Jase. I'm very physical. You'd be physical touch. You'd be words of affirmation as well. Yeah. Who's a good boy?
10:59Keyzie:I try to be. I try to be. No, no, no, you'd love it. Receiving. Oh.
11:04Mike Minogue:You'd love it.
11:04Keyzie:In terms of her to me. Yes. Yes. Yeah, she's pretty good like that.
11:08Mike Minogue:Yeah, I don't think I need that. She thinks I'm a legend. Definitely physical touch, hugs and stuff. Yeah. I like gifts. Now, to me, honestly, the main one is just I like it when I make her a cup of tea, she makes me something, the service thing. I quite like that. Same. Very nice way to show. Do you alternate?
11:26Keyzie:Do you alternate? You guys have alternate sort of turns?
11:28Mike Minogue:Yep, and we do this thing where we don't burn the shit out of the milk. I don't burn the milk. Well, according to your wife, mate. Unless you're saying she's alive. Hey, listen to the big show. Oh, yeah. Four to seven weekdays. Listen to the big show. Yeah. That's one of my lovely things. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So good.
