In short
The hosts discuss sleep deprivation and then shift to “arrest etiquette,” reacting to a chaotic arrest they witnessed in Auckland’s CBD (Queen Street).
Guest backgrounds
No guests appear in the transcript; it’s a two-host conversation (Matt and Keezy/Jase).
Key claims
Arrests can become dangerous and chaotic when one person resists; the hosts argue police should control the person’s body position before attempting cuffs (they suggest face-down/pressure on the head area) and that cuffing while standing may be a mistake.
Notable examples
A woman screaming and resisting as six cops try to restrain her against a van; her mates arrive and heckle. They also mention a brother who’s a cop and stories of spitting during arrests, plus Highway Patrol examples involving racist/offensive confrontation.

0:16Keyzie:Oh, g'day! Matt! Hello! Hello! How are we going, team? Really good.
0:23Mike Minogue:It's good, man. It's good. It was nice having ages off.
0:26Keyzie:Yeah. It felt the same to me, I'll be honest. Yeah, it did feel the same to me as well. I'll be honest with you. 4.45 this morning, bingo. Bang. Two o 'clock for me. I was at two for you. And then four o 'clock, and then five o 'clock. And I was like, fuck this, I'm getting up. I was effing and jeffing. Because that's when I set my alarm for breakfast. But I hadn't set my alarm. But I woke up at bang on 4.45. I thought it was about six or seven. Did you really? 4.45 is when you were getting up. Yes. I was 5.15. Right. And then I got up and wandered out to the kitchen and was like, ah, God damn it.
1:06Keyzie:Came back into bed.
1:08Mike Minogue:So you went out to the kitchen to check the time, didn't you? No, I just went out and swore. I just. Eft and jeff. Because, yeah. Looked at his phone, you mean. Yes. Which is plugged in in the kitchen charging.
1:17Keyzie:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yes. And I was like, oh, for fuck's sake. So I went back to bed and my wife was awake. And she said, oh, whose turn is it for coffee? Wow, at 4.45. And I went, oh, it's a bit early for that, darling. And she went, oh, what do you mean? What's the time? And I went, 4.45. And what did she say? Yeah, what did she say? She went, oh, fuck. And then what did you say to that? So I said, wait and wait. While you're awake, we're in there. In there. In there. I'll just get. Did you go back to sleep? We did. We did, actually. It was quite good.
1:48Mike Minogue:What time did you wake up?
1:51Keyzie:Quarter past six. Oh. That's a good shot. Hour?
1:54Mike Minogue:Extra hour? Yeah, yeah.
1:55Keyzie:Which normally, you know, I wouldn't get. So I was grateful for it. Oh, that's good, man. Yeah. Did you thank the universe? I did thank the universe.
2:04Mike Minogue:I just woke up at 7.30. Oh, gee.
2:06Keyzie:Yeah.
2:06Mike Minogue:It was great. Fuck, it was great. Like, just not getting up at 4 or whatever, and it going off and being like, ugh, fuck.
2:15Keyzie:Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
2:16Mike Minogue:Fuck, it was good, man.
2:17Keyzie:I think we need to start pounding the pills, Mogey. I think we need to go pharmaceutical on this. I tell you what I'm doing is I'm not going to – I've been much better. This is a bad run I'm on. I'm on a bad run. But I still feel good as gold. It's just a bad run. It's just a bad run, Keezy. I was in bed early last night because I was absolutely rooted yesterday. And a little bit of sleep chat, everyone. But then, yeah, just waking up, waking up. And I managed to go back to sleep, which was good. Just roll around for a little while. And then went to the gym. And then I got home at 7. Yeah. Made the wife a coffee.
2:52She just woke up. Beautiful. Yeah, nice. You're cracking on with your day, man. Well, you do. You do. But I would absolutely fucking love to sleep through the night. God, how good would that be? Yeah. Maybe I need to talk to a, what do you reckon?
3:06Mike Minogue:Sleep psychologist? Nah, just someone at the pub or something. Is there such a thing?
3:11Keyzie:There probably is. There is. There is for little kids, isn't there? Yeah, there is. Like a sleep therapist. For babies, baby whisperers, they call them. Yes.
3:17Mike Minogue:Go to fucking sleep. Why don't we sleep train mogi? Go to fucking sleep. So the way to do it. Why don't we do this as a storyline and then I don't have to pay for it? Yeah, sure. That sounds good, eh? Yeah, yeah.
3:28Keyzie:Well, I mean, I need it too, though, Kesey.
3:30Mike Minogue:Okay, we'll sleep train both of you.
3:32Keyzie:Okay. And by the sounds of it, so do you, because you've been having some shockers. You have it. Well, you're stressed out, though. You've been stressed and waking up. That was stress-related.
3:40Mike Minogue:Otherwise, I'm sweet.
3:41Keyzie:Yeah.
3:42Mike Minogue:You sleep like a baby. I do. So what we'll do is we'll get a baby sleep trainer on. Yeah, good idea. And they'll be like, right. For Jase and a grown-up one for me. No, two baby ones.
3:51Keyzie:What about a hypnotist? The trouble is what they want to do is they want to reset your circadian rhythm. Yeah. I don't like people fucking with my circadian rhythm. Has it happened before? You leave that alone. Yeah. I had a bad experience. It's dirty. Get your fingers out of there.
4:07Mike Minogue:What do you think a circadian rhythm is? Do you think it's a butthole? I think what they make you do is stay up really late. Yes. I can't be fucked.
4:20Keyzie:Yeah, I remember that as well. or go to bed an hour later. So that kind of works because what I've realised, and I know this is enthralling, chap, but I have a limited quota of sleep every day. That's it. That's all I'm getting. So just deal with it.
4:37Mike Minogue:You have a way of being like, I can't nap.
4:40Keyzie:No, I can't.
4:41Mike Minogue:Exactly. It's just like, I can't nap. I'm not even going to try because I can't nap. Of course you can. Everyone can fucking have a sleep.
4:46Keyzie:I'm too angsty to nap. Why don't you go for a ride? How do you go to sleep at the end of the day? Well, at the end of the day, because my body naturally reaches that place. Right. And I have been walking a fucking truckload, so you'd think that would help, which it does. But no, I've just never been a napper.
5:06Mike Minogue:What about if you had one of those big, heavy anxiety blankets?
5:10Keyzie:We used to have one of those.
5:11Mike Minogue:And then that's your napping blanket.
5:13Keyzie:Right, yeah.
5:13Mike Minogue:That means that way you're not angsty because you're under the anxiety blanket.
5:16Keyzie:And my wife can put it in the corner of the room, and I just go over there and curl up into it. Like a dog bed.

5:22Mike Minogue:Yeah, like a dog bed.
5:23Keyzie:And I just wrap myself in the anxiety blanket.
5:27Mike Minogue:And the older you get, the harder it is to sit down in the bed. That's what my family dog does. It does three laps of it. Yeah, do the laps.
5:33Keyzie:They do this. Push it down. The hip sort of goes down and then the rest of the body. Collapse into it. Yes. Fucking poor thing. Jeez. Oh, God. That's like you, Jase. It is.
5:45Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Beach Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. Now that's good listening. And it's live. What are you listening to there? Oh, me? Oh, sorry. I was listening to the Radio Hauraki Big Show. Right. Four to seven weekdays. Yeah, that's quite specific. And iHeartRadio. Wado.
6:10Keyzie:Cheers.
6:11Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show Podcast.
6:14Keyzie:Man, I saw an arrest today. on Queen Street, and I've never seen anything like it.
6:23Mike Minogue:It's probably for the podcast then, right? Not for radio.
6:26Keyzie:Yes. It was a fucking horror of a fucking set too. It was a woman. Yep. Backbone, obviously. And my wife and I had just gone and had breakfast, and we were walking back up Queen Street, screaming like you would not. I have never heard someone screaming like this. Beyond that, just, you know, Now, you talk about losing your shit. This is beyond losing your shit. It was the most. And everyone within about a 50-meter radius was just frozen on the spot. Six cops. Six cops trying to get her into this van. Fuck. It was a fucking shit show. Damn. And then her mates turned up while the police are trying to get her into the van.
7:12Keyzie:And they're effing and jeffing at the cops from the sidelines. Was she cuffed? They were trying to cuff her. Right. But she was just going fucking. I would have tased her. Yeah. And they were trying to do it, but six fucking cops. Six cops. Six cops. Six cops. Gives you an idea of the extent of the, what would you call it, explosion. So all you have, you have one person on each of the limbs. Yes. You've got an extra two there, so I'd have one on the head. You had two down sort of below, pressing into the legs. Oh, is she being carried at this point? No, not carried. She's up against the sort of back of the van.
7:46Keyzie:Oh, yeah. Pushing her face into the side of the van. No, no contact with the head area, but just arms, legs, and hip. Yeah. Just trying to hold her still. No good. Fucking hell. I think you've got to pin them down. You've got to get them face down. You've got to get their face in the concrete there. It's for their own good, Jase. You press a little bit of pressure on the head there, and then you can cuff them. And then once you've got them cuffed, then you stand them up. Yeah. I think they've made a mistake there by trying to cuff them standing up. Quite possibly. But it was very off-putting. I've got to say You don't want to get arrested now Or it put you off this woman Which one was it?
8:21Mike Minogue:Or has it put you off pudding? You kind of said off pudding Yeah Like you don't want dessert
8:25Keyzie:It's off pudding I don't really do I did have dessert last night actually And you love it What did I have Keezy?
8:31Mike Minogue:Frozen yogurt Correct Did you? Yeah man Frozen yogurt story
8:35Keyzie:We were sitting there after I cooked a lovely meal by the way And I said to my wife I feel like a bit of frozen yogurt action Put him a treat yeah She went no Oh, come on. Yeah, bad influence. Oh, bad influence, Woody J. Come on, let's do it, darling. Come on, man. So we did. It was good. Yeah, it was good. What flavour did you get, man? I can't even remember. Something. There's all sorts. Yeah, nicotine yogurt. How good.
9:00Mike Minogue:Have we invented something there? Let's do it. Yeah, that's good. Let's go into business.
9:04Keyzie:But yes.
9:05Mike Minogue:So they got her away, though?
9:06Keyzie:They did. But then you could hear her, once they got her in the van, just banging inside it and screaming. That's why you go down to the local sports fields and you do a few doughies. Well, yeah, I was saying to my wife, God, that's going to be fun at the other end, isn't it? Yeah. It might be a case of let's just give her a bit of time to just cool off a little bit. And my brother, who's a cop, he tells me very similar stories where he's been arresting people and they spit in your face and do all that. It's not good. Fuck being a policeman, man. Or a police officer. Yes. My wife was like, oh, I feel like I would enjoy being a police person.
9:47Mike Minogue:Who said that? My wife. A police person. And then I was like, we were watching Highway Patrol. And then instantly an officer was getting confronted by this person who was very angry and being very offensive and very racist. And I was like, so you'd deal with that? She's like, oh, maybe not that sort of stuff. And I'm like, that's 90 % of the stuff.
10:03Keyzie:There's no picking and choosing. We were trying to figure out where, because like the CBD, that'd be a hard beat, where the hardest beats in Auckland would be. West Auckland, I'd say, would be pretty challenging.
10:17Mike Minogue:A friend of mine was the head of a certain crime unit in South Auckland, and it was one of the most intense jobs I've ever heard in my life. Yes. He doesn't do it anymore. No. But I was just like, holy fuck, the stories that he could probably tell are just like, oh. Yeah. Whereas I come home and I'm just like, oh, busy day. Had a brainstorm. Yeah, that's right. Do you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. We've got a good one coming up, babe. Oh, my God. That was the show. Oh, my God. Wait until you hear this new ad campaign we've got. It's just full on. We did this funny thing on the show, babe. I was talking about gaming and then Jason was like, doosh, doosh, doosh, doosh.
10:53Mike Minogue:So funny.
10:53Keyzie:It probably doesn't sound very cool the way I'm explaining it. I'll make you watch the real way. Yeah, but it was really funny anyway. You know what I'm like, doosh, doosh, doosh, doosh, doosh. The podcast is out. Let's listen to it. It's just so stupid, you know?
11:04Mike Minogue:It's good stuff, though, fellas. Boosh, doosh, doosh. Doosh, doosh. Hey, listen to the big show, 4 to 7 weekdays. Ho, ducky. Yeah, good stuff. Thank you. Yeah.
