In short

The hosts recap “Dinner With The Mogeys,” focusing on hot pot as a dinner-party format, hosting logistics (table setup, seating flow), and the “Big Show” dinner-party competition process (menus/themes, who goes last). They also discuss personal routines after the event (nap, sauna/ice bath) and humorous reactions to spicy food.

Guests

No formal guests are introduced. The episode features the regular hosts: Jase, Mogi (Keezy), and J. The only named visitors are Tom Scott and Avril, plus John Harding, who stopped by for drinks.

Key claims

Hot pot is easy to scale and learn; “more chilies” is the fix; the meat is harder to eat than seafood; hosting cleanup is manageable with repeated dishwasher cycles.

Notable examples

Jase coughing after a first spicy bite but continuing for hours; Mogi’s wife eating milder soup/vegetarian stock; the table moved to improve walk-through access to the back door.

0:00Keyzie:For all you mad bastards loving the Big Show podcast, get up even closer on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok or Raw Doggett 4 to 7 every weekday on Radio Horete. Oh, g'day fellas. Back bang. I'm not happy with my, oh no, that's alright.

0:22Mike Minogue:All G, Jase.

0:23Keyzie:You done it, man. I was looking to be a little bit complicated on the old Insta there. Oh, yeah. I've got this oh god this idea right oh here we go and it's like little videos of me walking through the city with come walk with come take a walk with Hoody J 100 % with a tune in the background and will you edit different things together or will it be one long 25 minute shot well it can only go for like a minute can't it and I'm like Do you want me to help you with it? I could see me posting that and just being ridiculed. Well, that's how you drive numbers, man. Yeah, but I don't actually care about numbers.

1:07Mike Minogue:I'm picturing a video of Jay's going for a walk with that, Everybody's talking about me. That song playing? Something nice and sort of deep and meaningful?

1:17Keyzie:Yeah, yeah, it's quite meaningful. Why Can't You Be With Me is the song by Martin Funaki. Oh, it's this week's rubber. Sick. Go for one no one's heard of. I was thinking about the rubber today. So obviously we're going to have to, you know, we'll discuss that either on the Friday or the Thursday. Well, you've already been banned from this week. Have I? No, no, let's go to the audience. Oh, my God, that's right. Hopefully he's been banned. I can't imagine that they'd get rid of me. I don't think so, mate. Yeah. No, I think I'll keep you around for sure. That would be terrible if that happened. Yeah.

1:46How are we, fellas? Good. You sound like you've had a nap. Well, I'll tell you what I've done. God, that sounds terrible. Sounds terrible. I did have a nap, Keezy. Eh? Keezy's very good at that. Hang on. It's the huskiness. But then after I, well, I had a couple of darts, you see. Oh, right, yeah. This is what gets you yesterday. I had a couple of darts. With old pug son. It immediately disagrees with me. But then I also, because then after you guys left, I had Tom Scott came over. Oh, right. And Avril and John Harding, another mate of mine. So they came over for a couple of wines. Yes. But they were going by about 9, 9.30.

2:25So that was all good. But today, yeah, I had a nap, Keezy, and then I've just been and had a sauna and an ice bath. Wow. So I'm freezing. I'm fucking freezing, brother.

2:38Keyzie:Yeah. But good. But I'm good. It was a terrible moment yesterday at your place where you said, hey, hoity J, hoity Jizz, Jizzbot, come for a little tour around my garden. Oh, yes. And I was like, oh, yeah, we'll do that. And old Pugs went out with you. And then I saw you pull out the darts. And I was like, oh, fuck.

2:57Mike Minogue:Did you have one?

2:58Keyzie:No. Good. I went out the front door and had a vape. Oh, well, I was asking you out for a vape. Oh, were you? I wasn't offering yours. I said, turn about the garden, you know. But the reality is, had I gone with you, you know what would have happened, Mogi. I wouldn't have let you have one. Yeah. I wouldn't have let you have one. But that was all cheap. Better me.

3:21Mike Minogue:Pretty broken sleep there, Mogi. Oh really? Yeah Pretty broken sleep How many times Are you up there? Oh just the twice The twice for a dump That's good stuff It wasn't a dump It was a splatter Oh It was like It was Yeah she was pretty volatile there Yum Holy shit though But broken sleep I was I was all good My eyes opened I had an early one Oh it was an emergency I was eyes open I was just like Holy fuck I need to go to the toilet right now And then I just went there and like, you know, obviously, you know Way waste And then hopped back and did the same thing I had a shower because the shower's right there And I sleep naked I forgot that you do that So I'm just like, I'm just going to quickly shower off Just to make sure I'm fucking clean Because I like to be clean and be I don't know anyone that we've got to run We've got to talk about it I don't know anybody that does it But the shower's right there And I've just like committed a hate crime in the toilet

4:17Keyzie:I don't know if it's because I've been plunging into the hot pots But I think maybe my tolerance is all G. Like I had my morning ablutions. You had fuck all hot pot though. I was watching you. I fucking had a massive bowl. And I'll tell you what's more. It was mostly soup. Yes.

4:39Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Beach Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. Oh, g'day, mate. Oh, hi, mate. Yeah. Look, if you want the chance to win all our on-air competitions and stuff and get amongst the live conversation, tune in to the Hauraki Big Show, four to seven weekdays on Radio Hauraki and iHeartRadio. The Hauraki Big Show podcast.

5:06Keyzie:You know what I find, though, and I've found this in every hot pot, is I'm not good with the meats. I love the meats. Good with the seafoods, but not the meats I find. What do you mean? I find them I don't know how to Very hard to eat Weirdly How do you mean hard to eat? The meat was fucking delicious Yeah I'm sure it was I love that shit It was fucking yum We're having it again tonight Yeah fair enough I was like We've got it all Sitting there man It was fucking It was delicious Yeah

5:35Mike Minogue:But it was one of those things Where you're getting like Every time you had a bite Someone would punch you in the face Oh it was so funny It was great Yeah I mean I

5:42Keyzie:At one point thought You were going to expire It was so fucking funny And Keezy absolutely in pieces. Well, it's because everyone was like. That first bite.

5:50Mike Minogue:Everyone's like, oh. Because you were like, hey, rip in everyone, and no one did. No, no. So I was like, well, someone's going to fucking get it. All right, I'll get it started. And then I had a bite, and then it instantly hit the back of my throat, and I was coughing. I was like, holy fuck. But then you proceeded to eat for the next four hours. Yes. In typical Keezy fashion. The amount I ate over that four hours was one meal's worth of food. It's just so fucking hot. I slowly ate it. And also there's so much, I was like, I can't just leave all this here. I've got to put a dent in it.

6:20Keyzie:Always away with a dinner party, eh, I find. There's always fucking, because you don't want to be in a situation where you haven't got enough food. And so you always go over the top with it and then go, oh, fuck. It's a really good learner because I'm going to, now we've got all the stuff for hot pots. Yes. So I'm into hot pots now. Hot pot mogi. They're fucking great. They are great. Yeah, really good. So yeah, that's the sort of thing you can do for just your family or guests as well. Oh, but now I've sort of got a better idea about how much you actually need. Yes. Which is less.

6:50Mike Minogue:And probably more chilies, I reckon. More chilies. Not enough chilies. You didn't even need a – the good thing about Bogie's Hot Piles, you didn't need to light the barbecue.

6:57Keyzie:There was one moment there, because I was totally G with it. Yeah. There was one moment about an hour after I went, oh, hang on. Hang on there.

7:05Mike Minogue:Jase, genuinely, I don't think you ate as much of the spicy shit as I did.

7:09Keyzie:I swear to God, not only did I eat as much, I ate double.

7:14Mike Minogue:No, I don't think you did. I was eating a lot of it.

7:17Keyzie:Did you hear even a splatter out of me, Mogi? Nothing, mate. You were loving it. You were absolutely loving it. Your whistler's all good.

7:24Mike Minogue:Your wife was eating just the vegetarian beef stock or the soup. She wasn't even eating the spicy stuff.

7:30Keyzie:You're really not doing any favours with her. Unbelievable, isn't it? It's really... Boy, oh boy. She's already got the pip with... I've got a question. We should be doing the draw today as well for who's next. I think so as well. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

7:44Mike Minogue:I think so as well. Yeah, I'm a bit nervous now. I'll say to Jase, oh, we'll save it for on the show. Yeah. We'll save it for on the show. What is interesting, though, where you get stitched up is you want to be going last. Because you've got an idea of everything. Well, because you know what everyone else has done, and that's the genius of the show, is before the show starts, everyone has to put in their menu, their enter, everything, this is what I'm doing, and you can't backtrack on it. Yes. But now you go to Mogey's, you're like, oh, this is what, oh, fucking hell, if I want to win. I'm going to have to go.

8:14And then after that, it's going to be this. We've got a theme. You've already got yours? Yes.

8:19Mike Minogue:I think Lucy and I do too, but to be fair, I can't one-up what you did. Absolutely not. Yes, you can. You can do it different, though. But that was magnificent. The spread, everything was awesome.

8:29Keyzie:You can do a hot pot, but make it hotter.

8:34Mike Minogue:That is such a good idea, Jase. Mogey, can I borrow your stuff? I've gone for a really hot pot well it was really what I loved about it actually was that's the first time my wife's been badgering me to move that table to where it is now we've had it over it was over to the side where the couch is and the couch is in front of the fireplace because then you can walk through and you can get to the back door but I fucking I love that table where it is now yeah it was cool it's great yes I couldn't host something like that in my current house it's yeah yeah

9:04Keyzie:yeah well we're in a situation of going okay we need a proper table here Not that big, but where we can seize everyone. Yeah, you want to come around. Or you have a theme where you're all crouched on the floor. A tatami.

9:18Mike Minogue:Japanese style. Japanese style, yeah. Come and take your shoes off. That would be quite funny. No, it was good. Yeah, it was great. How was the clean up? It was fine. Well, last night we did a round after you guys left. Rubbish run, all of that sort of stuff. and put the dishwasher on, and then our other mates turned up, and after they left, we emptied the dishwasher, did another dishwasher, did another one. Then this morning, I did it again, and then we've still got the big pot stuff to go. Yeah, absolutely insane.

9:52Keyzie:That's the one thing I'll say about our place. Our dishwasher is tiny. Right. You know what I mean? It's like, it doesn't fit a lot of shit in there. I mean, it's perfectly good for us, but if we're going to have a big dinner party, she's going to be a hurr of a mess. She does a big job.

10:04Mike Minogue:I'm excited to know what your theme is. Were you and your wife brainstorming on the way home?

10:10Keyzie:No, it actually came to us today.

10:12Mike Minogue:Oh, yeah? A theme. I've sort of, not an idea to make it so it's not just, oh, I've made a curry. Here you go.

10:21Keyzie:And my wife said to me, don't tell the fellas. And I said, no, no. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You want it to be a surprise. Unless, of course, we're packed next, and then down the line I'll have to expose it. 100%. Yeah. I'm excited. It's bloody good. Great thing to do and a great reason to do it. Yes, very much so. But I want it to be sooner rather than, you know. Like a few weeks' time. Yeah. I was thinking whoever's next, maybe end of August. Would be good, yeah? Yep.

10:49Mike Minogue:Let me have a look. Are we everything on end of August? That's about right, isn't it? Weekend again? Sunday?

10:54Keyzie:Yeah, because that's the other thing too. I think that works pretty well.

11:03Mike Minogue:29th and 30th, we've got nothing on at the moment. Great. Okay, good.
