In short

The Horaki Big Show discusses car-rental sponsorship and then centers on packing up a house for a move, dealing with clutter/storage, and frustrations with auction/bargain buying.

Guests

No named guests appear; it’s hosted by the Big Show crew (Keezy, Mogey, Pugs, Jase mentioned).

Key claims

Snap Rentals is the One New Zealand Warriors’ official car rental partner; renting with Snap supports the team. Packing early reduces stress (“one bite at a time”). Bargain/auction shopping leads to unnecessary items and stress.

Notable examples

Keezy starts packing for an end-of-October move, with Japan travel in two and a half weeks; he may use storage and short-term rentals in Auckland. Stories include parents selling a long-lived property full of “car shit,” flea-market hoarding (e.g., multiple boat motors/bicycles), and losing an online auction after “practically” bidding.

0:45Keyzie:Oh, g'day, fellas.

0:46Mike Minogue:Back, bud. Hello there.

0:48Keyzie:Yeah, that was really efficient. That was good shit. Good day to suck it, man. No mucking around. No mucking around. Yes, thank you, Keezy. Sucking around there and there. Good day, good day. Yeah. What made it so good? Must do it. What made it so good? Nice. I chose not to get involved with things that really had nothing to do with me. I chose not to get stressed out about things and had a productive day. That's great. Yeah, man. Things outside of the station, obviously. Oh, you don't? Oh, no. Yeah, no, it was great. It was good. How about you, fellas?

1:32Mike Minogue:You're talking things away from the station.

1:34Keyzie:Oh, yeah, no, nothing to do with the station, nothing to do with the fellas.

1:37Mike Minogue:What could be a stressful hair, Kesey? I don't know. Pugs' new shorts are pretty crazy.

1:42Keyzie:I was looking at his shorts. I've seen them before. Have you? Yeah. He's coming in, man. He's fuming. He's in another one of his moods. As a joke, was going to suggest to Pugs that he let me wear them for summer. Can you imagine hoody J in those? They'd be too long. I got them. on Saturday. Oh, really? Oh, they are new. They look like a kind of, I'd describe them as a parachute. Oh, like comedy pants. They're a comedy pants. Wacky pants. They're like the beret of pants. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They're like jodhpurs. And if you wore a beret with them, you're right, Mogey, it would really set it off. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

2:21But I think they look good on him, but they wouldn't look good on, you know, anyone else. I'm surprised anybody made them. To begin with. Even more surprised somebody bought them, and then even more surprised again that somebody's wearing them, and even more surprised again that they're wearing them into the big show, where we have a habit of not letting things go. I initially thought it was a skirt.

2:43Keyzie:Oh, I wish it was. I would have no issue with it if it was a skirt. Right. But that's my – Is Pugs wearing a skirt?

2:54Mike Minogue:Are you telling me if Pugs walked in in a skirt? Yes. You would have no issue with it? None whatsoever Would you say anything? No It'd be a Beckham situation But you'll say something about his clown pants Yes Why not about a skirt?

3:08Keyzie:Well because I think he'd suit a skirt better Because of his legs Yes 100 % And if you complain about a skirt it becomes a sexual harassment issue Exactly Whereas clown pants Yeah It's just wacky It's just wacky stuff

3:20Mike Minogue:It's good stuff I started packing my house today the very first day of packing Packs for the record is in the B Studio shaking his head. Fuming. Shaving his head.

3:31Keyzie:Packing up your house, that's good times, eh, Keezy?

3:33Mike Minogue:Because I have to move out at the end of October. Yeah. Right? Oh, that's ages. You get a busy couple of months. I go to Japan. In two and a half weeks' time, I go to Japan for two weeks. So while I'm in Japan, I will get home and then have two weeks to pack up and leave, and I don't have anywhere to go. But you've got to start that process now, pack it up, move it out, put some shit in storage. I think I've started. I can imagine your place is not huge. It's not huge. But you didn't have lots of the garage. The garage is fucking – because I've got my motorbike and my truck in there. So today I just needed to start it because my brain was like, oh, my God, it's going to be such a big job.

4:06Mike Minogue:I've done most of the garage today already. Yeah. It's all on the back of my truck, and now I'm like, cool, now I've got a truck full of shit on the deck of it. Now I don't know what to do with that. Yeah. So I'll figure it out. Are you just getting a storage unit on this unit? It depends if a house pops up in the next few weeks to buy. Otherwise, yes, storage unit and a rental, a short-term rent. If anyone listening knows of a short-term rental in Auckland, that would be handy, actually. Message me on Instagram.

4:29Keyzie:I've got a bit of storage in it. We've got a little cupboard unit in our place. Oh, is it the one you sleep in? When I've had a bad night, yeah. I've got my garden shed at my old place. Oh, yeah. You can chuck stuff in there. There's a prize cupboard here, Keezy. Yeah, there's a prize cupboard. To be honest. Mogi's got heaps of space as well. I've got too much space. Under his joint. I've got too much space. Yeah. Can I park my truck under your joint? Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, you have to fit it in through the man door.

4:58Mike Minogue:Under the pile, like where the piles are and all that. Yeah, yeah. But it's fucking hell. It's just I've got so much on my plate over the next few. And then to top it off, come dine with me this weekend. It's like, fuck. The Horaki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Horaki. You know how good the Horaki Big Show podcast is? Yeah, I love those fellas. Backbone. Yeah, backbone, you get it. You've got to get around the live radio show. Oh, yeah, when's that? Four to seven weekdays on Radio Hauraki and iHeartRadio. Backbone. Nice. The Hauraki Big Show Podcast.

5:37Keyzie:How do you eat an elephant, Keezy?

5:39Mike Minogue:One bite at a time?

5:40Keyzie:Correct.

5:41Mike Minogue:Yeah. I just needed to start because last night at like 2 a.m. I was in bed going, fuck, my house is going to take ages to pack up. Now that I've started, it's like I actually won't take that long. Nah. Our place when we moved, it was like. I've got no stress around it just because I've done it a billion times. I've only done it like twice.

5:56Keyzie:We had fucking 27 years of shit and four children.

6:01Mike Minogue:That I can't imagine.

6:02Keyzie:In our place. And it was just like, oh, my fucking God.

6:07Mike Minogue:It's like my parents are selling the plantation. Oh, yeah, right. They want to sell it at the start of next year. And they've lived there since it's 97. You guys haven't been there, have you? Yeah. Yeah, we have. You and Pugs have, Jase.

6:19Keyzie:Oh, were you not there, Moggy?

6:21Mike Minogue:No, you drove in your tea. Probably got a drone. Oh, right, okay. And then we stopped very briefly. But at my parents' house, there's like the house up at the top of the hill in a garage full of Dad's old car shit everywhere, another shed full of shit. Down the bottom is his workshop.

6:34Keyzie:And all the servants' quarters and stuff.

6:36Mike Minogue:And the servants' quarters, but they'll be taking care of that themselves. But there is so much old car shit like everywhere. Yeah. Well, he's just got to run a – he'll just sell it. Yeah, it's got to be scrap. And they'll have to come and pick it up. not necessarily a scrap but you'd either sell it or on trade me you'd go I've got all this stuff come and get it and he'd be a member of clubs and shit well he's not actually he hates clubs he's one of those grumpy old bastards but basically he has but even just listing it all oh it'd be a nightmare it's a fucking nightmare take it to the tip no just biff it no it's actually very valuable stuff you can't get their OG stuff anymore but that's the thing though isn't it then you gotta deal with it 100 % although has he been fastidious with his record keeping and storage Or is it just chuck it over there?

7:19John. Yeah. I mean, Don.

7:20Mike Minogue:Why did I say John? That's not his name. Jonkey. Jonkey. Yeah. Donkey.

7:25Keyzie:I remember my mum when she moved out of her place, and it was a huge house, two-storied, and there was a sort of unit in the bottom sort of half of the house.

7:40Mike Minogue:Like a big unit?

7:40Keyzie:It was a reasonable unit. But there was a garage that was probably, I don't know, five times the size of the studio. And my mum's partner was a flea market fanatic and loved his toys and bits and pieces. Just junk. And when they packed it up, it was a fucking nightmare.

8:02Mike Minogue:Yeah, 100%.

8:03Keyzie:But thousands and thousands of things.

8:07Mike Minogue:And I bet it's all valuable to the right person.

8:10Keyzie:To the right person. To that guy, yeah. Yeah, but yeah. Packing up, it's not fun.

8:14Mike Minogue:Well, that's like my wife's grandparents lived in this like old Christchurch. It wasn't Christchurch. It's Springston. No, Southbridge, where Dan Carter's from. Yeah, sure. An old 200-year-old house, and they'd lived in it for 60, 70 years, and the granddad had the same obsession with buying shit at flea markets and had a few barns on the property. And then so when he passed away, all the kids had to go through it, and they were just like, why has he got 15 boat motors? Yeah. Why has he got 30 bicycles? Exactly. I had a mate that was pretty firmly on the pipe, and he just couldn't stop himself from buying DVD players.

8:56I was like, why have you got another DVD player? He's like, it was 19 bucks. I was like, you've got 10 DVD players. Yes. Because he's considered it a bargain, you know. That can't pass up a bargain. What year was this? 20-odd year ago.

9:13Keyzie:So they were still useful. Yeah, but you don't need eight to ten new ones. I've never got that mentality of people that buy just because it's a bargain. I'm saving money. It's of no use to me, but it's a bargain, so I'll buy it. My wife bought something from Ikea today, and she said, I don't even know why I bought that. I know why she bought it. I don't even know what I'm going to buy it for. To pay you back for your fucking lamp. Good news, fellas. Good news. Is this show chat? No, not really. Okay. I got out bid in the last minute. Oh. Oh, so you didn't win it? I didn't win it. Oh, what the fuck?

9:49There was a word that he was using yesterday that made me slightly unsure.

9:55Mike Minogue:He kept saying bid instead of auction. No, he kept on saying practically, I think it was. So I practically bought it. Yeah. I was like, well, have you or haven't you? So you lied to the audience. Now, here we are. Well. A day later. Fucking hell, man.

10:11Keyzie:It was, and I admitted it to my wife too, and I went, oh, fuck. Now, darling, you know I love you, right? And she went, what have you done? And I went, oh, it's just, and I showed her, and she was like, oh, for fuck's sake. And then literally 30, I was watching it countdown going, oh, God, 30 seconds. Did you? Someone bought it. Did you celebrate? I was like, oh, thank fuck for that. Comment on there, sucker. But then your computer spirit kicked up again. Well, it did, and then I bit on something else. Oh, good. Well, I've lost that now, so this one I'm still keen on.

10:50Mike Minogue:What are the dimensions?

10:52Keyzie:It's a painting, but I lost that too. I drew a line, fellas. Well done. Okay, enough's enough here.

11:00Mike Minogue:So how much time do you spend on this fucking auction website? Because all you've got to show for it is a giant coffee table.

11:06Keyzie:I think that's all. And a lot of stress. Oh, no, I bought a very cool side table for my wife, which she does like. How big is it? Oh, it's about, you know. Size of a shoe mug. You can fit a coffee mug on it. Right, just one? Yes. It's like a plinth.

11:25Mike Minogue:Listen to The Big Show, 4 to 7 weekdays, Radio Hoda. Or don't. Or just don't. I mean, we're not going to force you to. No, you should.

11:37Thank you.
