In short

The hosts chat about Friday vibes, celebrity/media-style events they dislike, a golf charity event they attended, smoking triggers and long-term consequences, and planning for “Sunday” (likely a big sporting/food day) including a roast menu and preloading plans.

Guests

No named guests appear; it’s a roundtable between the hosts (Mogey, Jase, Keezy) plus mentions of other people.

Guest backgrounds (mentioned)

Rog from The Rock (breakfast radio, age 38); Martin Guptill (won a longest-drive competition); Pug’s son (stallion, high demand); Dermot (sister’s boyfriend).

Key claims

Golf events are “who’s who” and awkward; smoking can trigger non-smokers; one grandfather smoked from age 8 to 94.

Notable examples

Rog at the driving range; Guptill hitting a shoddy club 280m; dinner with roast lamb/roast spuds/beans and a planned Sunday roast menu.

I think Chemist Warehouse was putting it on. It was at a driving range. And I didn't realise it was such a, like a, oh. Who's who. Who's who type situation. And my mate invited me down there because he was on the list, not me. And then.

1:17Keyzie:Were you as plus one, were you?

1:18Mike Minogue:I was as plus one. Because he's been my plus one to a few things. And then I got there and it's literally just a who's who of like media people. and fuck I like everyone's lovely but I hate those situations yeah but that's you top to bottom what do you mean it's got keys you're written all over it it doesn't though selfie selfie selfie you know chitty chat chitty chat network network I'm available

1:47Mike Minogue:I'm available

1:48Keyzie:anything for me in Christchurch I wish I'm exactly the same I hate them I was telling Keezy about an absolute shocker that I went to, which I will not repeat because of what was said at this particular... That gross. It was just gross.

2:02Mike Minogue:But there are people that thrive. Was it sexual? Yes, it was. I bet it was. It was. Was it you that said it? No. Jase doesn't say sexual stuff, eh? No, not that I'm aware of. Ever? Unless I'm horny. There it is. Filth. But how do you operate in those situations, Moggy? But I don't like any event. No. It's not restricted to that. Agreed. I'm the same. But it's like when you're standing around. Anywhere where I have to talk to people. And you're like, oh, there's old mate. Oh, there's, of course, he's here. She's here. I haven't been to many of those. Yeah. And I didn't realise what it was. It was great because I got a goodie bag, got to hit some balls, got a chicken burger.

2:40Mike Minogue:Chatted to some nice fellas from a few other radio stations. You and your chicken burgers. Who'd you talk to? Spoke to. Rog. Rog from The Rock. Oh, yeah. He does breakfast. Long time, yeah. Nice fella, actually. I never really fully spoke to him. Did he know who you were? Yeah. Did he? 100%. Were you like... He was asking about you, fella.

2:58Keyzie:So with regards to... I was like... Any room at the old... Because old... Imagine if that's what I did.

3:14Mike Minogue:But it was just nice chatting to him about... I don't know, just... Because he's been on radio for a fucking age. He is. Yes, he is. He's younger than Jase. He is. Is he? He is. He's 38. Oh. He's three years older than me. And has had an equally hard life.

3:30Keyzie:Yeah. Yeah, yeah. The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. Oh, g'day, mate. Oh, hi, mate. Yeah. Look, if you want the chance to win all our on-air competitions and stuff and get amongst the live conversation, Tune in to the Hauraki Big Show Four to seven weekdays On Radio Hauraki And iHeartRadio

3:56Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show Podcast Nah yeah but it was But I just You know

4:00Keyzie:That's alright though That's fine Yeah I tend to bail those very quickly If I find myself in them

4:06Mike Minogue:You know what I'm saying? But I took home a goodie bag That was remarkably stuffed Full of stuff So I was like I'll stay Golf balls? And I'll talk Nah Nah like You know Yeah I don't know Fridge magnets And shit like that. That was like vitamins and I think I got a new toothbrush. Oh, yeah. Because it was getting a little out. Electric toothbrush, yeah. Oh, yeah. I got an invite for that thing. Yeah, like cologne. Oh, yeah. Yeah, like some good shit. Yeah, yeah, nice. And so I was like, oh, okay, so I had the photo with the products and did all the shit you're supposed to do at those events and then had a few balls and had a bit of a shitty chat.

4:37Mike Minogue:Did you shank it? Yes. Fucking, you know what it was. So they were like, oh, we're going to have our longest drive competition. Martin Guptill won it last year. He's here again this year. And we're like, cool, so no one's going to win that. Yeah, cool. And then he stepped up with the shittest golf club I've ever seen and hit it like 280 metres. And I was like, cool. Mighty. That's great.

4:56Keyzie:Old Keezy from the big show. Twink. The big show on Radio Horeki. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Boom. Yeah, nice. I had some people over for dinner last night. Well, family. Zah's cousin. Zah's sister. Zah's sister's boyfriend. and then Zar's brother's there anyway, you see. Yeah.

5:18Mike Minogue:What's the sister's boyfriend? Dermot. Dermot. Yeah, good man. Yeah, man, backbone. Bad man. Yeah, nice. Back mode. So he's here for his brother's wedding. But the cousin, he had a packet of darts there. Oh, no. No, no, no. Didn't have any. Oh, good. Unbelievable. That's great. What a hero. Did you think about it? Of course. You always think about it. Did he offer you? If they're there. He brought them in. He put them on the table. which was a big fucking... And then I was just thinking, even while I'm smoking that, I'm not going to be enjoying it. Yeah. I'm going to regret it while I'm doing it.

5:53Mike Minogue:Because you're not pissed? Which is shit. Well, no, I wasn't pissed, but I had a wine in my hand. Yeah. But just like, no, because I don't want to do it anymore.

6:03Keyzie:I...

6:04Mike Minogue:It's fucking amazing, isn't it? Like just how... I was so triggered that time by Pug San

6:09Keyzie:when he had those... Oh, he's an asshole. when he had those mini Vietnam ciggies. Yeah. That just triggered me so hard. Oh, no. See, I will say. He's got another pack.

6:22Mike Minogue:Genuinely, from someone who doesn't smoke, I find it bad whenever someone does what he just did and shows people who used to smoke that they've got smokes. Like, Beck does it all the time. Dilly does it all the time. Beck's a shocker, actually. Beck's a shocker. Yes. And as someone who doesn't smoke, who doesn't want my friends to smoke. But you smoke. I find it, yeah, but that's pole though. Yeah, that's true. You shouldn't smoke with your lungs, Keezy. I don't because of my lungs. I don't smoke in case my asthma flares up. But I find that very like, well, don't do that. What are you doing? Do it, man.

6:58Keyzie:But I also, you know, I occasionally get triggered walking back home and I'll get a waft of tobacco or whatever and I go, oh, yeah. Now you're talking. Yeah. I was just saying yesterday to my brother there, I just wish I knew what the repercussions would be because some people get through fine. Yes.

7:17Mike Minogue:I see what you mean, the future. Yeah, the future. If I could see the future, that's how I would. If I could see one thing in the future, I would look at that because I don't smoke very much at all. I'm not 10 a day. I'm not a packet a day. I take six months off, whatever it might be. Yeah. I just don't see. Surely I'm fine. Like my granddad, Mogi.

7:39Keyzie:Started at eight. Yeah, granddad Mogi. Oh, granddad Mogi. And smoked all the way through, black and whites they were called, to the age of 94. And then the doctor said to him, I've told you this story, but it's true. The doctor said to him, that's enough with the smoking probably now, Brum. And he went, all right. Righto. I've had a good run. No issue at all. Yeah. And it's just like, what the fuck? 86 years, it was a good run.

8:05Mike Minogue:Yes. Fuck yeah, that is a long time If I could, this could be a good topic If you could look into the future and see one thing, what would it be? Mine would be like, who's going to win the blah blah blah So you can put like a million dollars on it Yeah, like in five years time, who's going to win this So that I can spend all of my life up till then Saving, saving, saving, to put it all on there

8:25Keyzie:No, I

8:26Mike Minogue:Melbourne Cup or some shit

8:28Keyzie:I don't want to know anything about the future

8:30Mike Minogue:Really? Because I know something I can tell you what's going to happen on a Sunday afternoon You're going to get a three

8:37Keyzie:for your come down with me. Mogi has been piling the pressure on all this time. It's because he's done now. Yeah, I know. But like I was saying to my wife and to you guys, if it's a total disaster, then that's great too. Sure. Well, of course it won't be. It's just funny to me. It might be. Look, I'll be honest with you. There's some real potential for disaster. Well, it's sort of, I don't know. What's the ceiling on roast spuds and a couple of beans?

9:07Mike Minogue:Pretty hard to fuck that up. Yeah, that's what I'm having. A couple of beans. A couple of beans.

9:14Keyzie:Some beans, but I might shave a walnut on it. Oh, yeah. Yeah. We had beans last night with the pine nuts there. Yes. And some, is it Zatar? Is that the name of that bastard? Zatar potatoes? Fuck, it was good eating. My. And lamb, two and a half kilos of roast ham. And I normally don't like a lamb, Kesey. Fuck, it was good. If you get a good lamb, man, it's fucking young. Use a good lamb. We talked to our daughter, who's a real foodie. And she said, okay, hit me with it.

9:46Mike Minogue:She said, boom, roast and some spuds.

9:49Keyzie:And then we told her and she went, okay, yeah, good. And then she said, I'm intrigued by the entree. I'm intrigued by that. And then we explained it and she went, yeah, okay. Sounds yum But when you say what it is I think the reaction's going to be

10:33Keyzie:That's all G, man.

10:34Mike Minogue:Should we all meet at Pugs' on Sunday and preload for the morning?

10:38Keyzie:Well, you could because here's the thing. Old Pug's son's going to be in my father-in-law's house. That's a bloody beautiful joint.

10:48Mike Minogue:How's sitting again, is he? Yeah, man. He's in high demand, old Pug's son. And rightly so. He's a stallion. He's a massive stallion. How long is your father-in-law away for?

11:01Keyzie:I don't want to give the details. Pugs is giving me a bit of an evil eye. About a month, I think. All right. And his place is a very nice joint.

11:10Mike Minogue:If I haven't found a house and we have to move out of our house, I'll just move into your father-in-law's place, man.

11:16Keyzie:Yeah, sure. Pugs would love that because you guys are getting on so well.

11:19Mike Minogue:And Pugs will be gone by then. This is in like a few months' time.

11:24Keyzie:Right.

11:25Mike Minogue:Sweet.

11:25Keyzie:Well, they do have a very large downstairs living area.

11:29Mike Minogue:Your father-in-law has a large downstairs.

11:33Keyzie:Jeez. I'm going to go and have one of Pugs' Vietnamese ciggies.

11:36Mike Minogue:Yeah, good on you. Hey, this is the Big Show. Fuddle, seven weekdays. Ready? Bye. Bye.
