In short
Social media marketing strategy focused on “volume over perfection.” Jasmine Star argues that current algorithms reward specific, interest-based content and that posting frequently (even imperfectly) increases learning, reach, and conversions. She also explains how to repurpose organic posts into ads and how to create content quickly (often in under six minutes).
Guests
No named guests appear in the episode. Jasmine Star answers audience Q&As herself and references a student (Bonnie) and another DM contact (Katie) as examples.
Key claims
Algorithms are more specific, interest-based, and personalized now; content is a repetition game; organic performance should guide ad creation; posting daily builds trust and compounds DMs; launches should be adjusted early if early metrics miss goals.
Notable examples
Jasmine’s dog-related algorithm; a 6-second reel turned into an “ad” (54k reach); Bonnie’s results (32 days: $44k; 90 days: $112k); Katie (non-diet dietitian, <4k followers, 23 clients, $17k in <90 days); “six posts under six minutes” workflows (quotes, testimonials, straight-to-camera, AM routine, Q&A, how-to).

Transcript
Automatic transcript. May contain errors.0:00Post as much as you can, however you can. Content is a game of repetition, not perfection. The more reps you get in, the more you'll learn and get better. Big or small account, rep is a rep. Welcome to the Jasmine Star Show. And today we're going to be talking about the marketing that is working right now. Marketing is always changing. Staying ahead of the curve is going to be key to this. My mentor once told me that you want to go where the puck is going, not where the puck is, which was foreign to me because one, I'm not very sportsy. And number two, born and raised in Southern California. And I'm like, what is this ice hockey you're referring to?
0:34Anyway, here's the main thing. Go in the direction that the industry is going. You want to get there so that when the puck arrives, the puck, the ball, the ping pong, whatever it is, right when you hit there, you're going to be at the intersection of success and opportunity. Let's dive in. What type of marketing is actually working now? It is very common for me to do Q &A sessions. I go live on Instagram. I answer questions. I love getting engagement because I personally respond. So because this show is all about you and for you, I went to the audience and I asked, what questions do you have for marketing in regards to your business right now?
1:11So with many thanks to people who participated, let's go. I'm going to give the shout outs. But let's start and keep the main thing the main thing. The truth of the matter is, is there's never been a better time to get your business in front of the right customers. There has never been a better time. There was a time where everybody believed that if you had more followers, you would have more customers. Now, what we saw to be true was the exact opposite. There were people with hundreds of thousands of followers who couldn't make more than a couple thousand dollars online. And then what I have seen professionally for years is people with just a few hundred followers making tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars.
1:52Now, that was then. This is now. And it's even more true than it has ever been before. Why? The algorithms are totally different than they were last year and specifically 10 years ago. So there's three main differences. The algorithm is now more specific. So you want to make sure that the words you're using, both spoken and written, when you're adding captions, when you have closed captions, like actually on your content, that is all being read by the platforms and making sure that people who are specifically looking for that particular thing are going to be seeing it. So I was just talking to the video crew earlier this morning and they asked, how's your day?
2:32I said, my day is good, but I still don't have a dog. So how good could it really be? And then I go on to reply that my algorithm is filled with dog adoptions and puppies and content of furry family members that are just making life so good. That's not lost on me. I know why that's happening. Is because it's specifically giving me what it is I want to see based on things that I am sending other people commenting or engaging with. At least once a day, I am sending my husband a dog or a puppy that we can foster. So what do you think is going to be in my algorithm? Exactamente. Okay. It's also going to be focused.
3:09These algorithms are going to be more interest-based. What are you interested in? Now, it is not lost on me either that when I am served up an Instagram ad after having engaged with, say, an influencer who was talking about the best winter coats, and all of a sudden I'm getting ads for winter coats, it's not lost on me. We know why. Because not only is it specific, it's also based on interest, which is really good news because guess what? Your business and your offer is gonna be for somebody who is interested in what it is you're putting out. Believe it. The third main reason why the algorithms are definitely working in your favor and there's never been a better time to market your business is that it's a lot more custom.
3:51Many people are seeing the same type of content over and over and over. So I get a manicure every three weeks on the dot. Let me just tell you, I'm not even going to tell you my manicurist name because I am that shady. Her wait list, I kid you not, was like two years. So if I miss my appointment with her, I'm not seeing her for six weeks. That's how hot she is. So I'm not even going to say this, but I am so cued in every three weeks. What am I doing a couple of days before? I'm going and I'm looking at nail art on Instagram. So it's not lost on me that when I'm looking for nail art, I'm getting more and more nail art inspiration.
4:29The algorithm is giving you things to keep you on the platform. So now let's talk about your business. People are going to be specifically looking for what it is that you want because they're interested in what it is that you provide and your content is not going to be the only content they're going to be seeing. So if you have an offer and let's just say that you are a relationship coach, guess what? Your content will be shown to people who are on the platform looking for inspiring or how to repair relationships, but they're also going to be seeing content from other people as well. I want you to lodge that right there because your content isn't the only specific and interesting content they're going to be seeing.
5:08So how do you stick out and then what does this actually mean? I am here to say that you need to create as much content as you possibly can. And this is about the time that you're going to turn off the show, be like, no girl, I am barely lucky to shower every day. And I'm going to be like, I get you. That's real. But also the way that we market our businesses is a volume game. I'm going to get to more of that in a second. But I will say it doesn't need to be perfect. So I'm saying as much content as you can. however you can and it doesn't have to be perfect. In fact, what we're seeing is that people showing up as their real authentic selves is outperforming anything that used to be.
5:50So remember on the days where it's just like, okay, early days Instagram, your feet in the sand, your perfect cappuccino, oh, it's all ready to go. And then later on, we had the perfectly quaffed lives with like the really expensive bags, flying in private jets, doing choreographed dance routines. You see these trends happening and what the trend is happening is like real and imperfect is doing better because got really tired of a perfectly curated life. Cool. And the third thing is a high encouragement for you to mix your interest and marketing for more reach. Because if you're only talking specifically only about what your business offer is, that's going to be great for people who are looking for that specific thing.
6:28However, it's going to be important and really helpful for more people to be exposed to your account when you're talking about things that are interesting to you. So if you are really into Star Wars, if you were just a big fan of Devil Wears Prada, if you are huge of the Golden Globes, talk about those pieces and then incorporate it through the lens of your business. That will help you get exposed to people who might not know your business exists, but they might really be into Star Wars or the Golden Globes. Okay, so what we're going to be doing is we're going to be talking about how your marketing is improved with more, not less.
7:06Your marketing is improved with more, not less. So let's throw perfection out of the window. Let's throw it needs to look a certain way out the window because the better you get with organic content, the more you can leverage that in your business if you decide to move in the direction of paid ads. Now, I'll pause here because I've had business owners come to me and be like, you know, Jasmine, I'm really glad that you're a big fan of creating organic content and posting as much as you can, but really, I don't like to show up that much and I have money that I could put behind ads, which I think is amazing, bless, great job, incredible.
7:39However, just because you can pay for your ads doesn't mean you know how to create good ads. How do you create good ads? By understanding what's working organically. So all roads lead back to create as much as you can, however you can, because your audience will begin to respond to what they like. And I am a firm believer that you're gonna take your organic content and be able to know, hey, I can turn this into an ad or I can create an ad that looks very similar to this organic content. Organic teaches you the fastest and it doesn't have to be perfect. So the common theme you are going to hear me throughout the rest of this Q &A that's largely driven by people listening and watching to the show is that it's a volume game.
8:24Marketing on social media right now is a volume game. And as much as we don't want to hear it, it's just the truth. So I would rather have us have opinions about what is true. So let's just break this down with an example. Let's just say, let's just say for math sake, that you put out one piece of organic content, you're going to get about 2 % engagement, probably less, but for using round numbers, you're going to get 2 % engagement. Great. That's what we can expect. Now, you don't have to be a professional content creator. You don't have to be a celebrity. You don't have to be the person who's out there cranking a bunch.
8:58your one piece for getting content is 2 % engagement. Now, what if you are putting out one piece of content getting 2 % engagement and I put out content that gets 2 % engagement, but let's say I do it five times in one day. So you have one post with 2 % engagement and I have five posts with 2 % engagement. Ladies and gentlemen, how much engagement do I have that day? 10%. I don't win by being better and I don't win by being good. I win by volume. That's the game of marketing right now. So this is just an encouragement to tell you all things being equal, like the algorithm is going to be agnostic.
9:40All things being equal is volume. And it doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be you. Now it's about this time that somebody's going to hear this, I'm going to say, but Jasmine, I don't have time. I literally don't have time to create one piece of content every single day, much less more than one piece of content. Well, what if I told you that you can create a piece of content in six minutes? I am talking about shooting, editing, and posting. We're going to dive into that right now. Every week I send a newsletter, basically a love note from me to you across the internet. And so a lot of the questions that I was getting from people was just like, it just takes me too long.
10:15It just takes me too long. So I decided to like flip it, reverse it a little bit of like Missy Elliott. I'm sure I did it wrong. She's probably so upset that I actually messed up her song, but let's flip the script and believe something else. So I'm going to read to you portions of that newsletter, and then we're going to be able to show you what was happening behind the scenes. So if you like me are spread thin, busier than a bee in spring and refuse to make excuses, let's get started. Each of the following Instagram posts took less than six minutes to create. Now let's break them down one by one so you can create your own version this week.
10:49No excuses. Now, just in case you would like these love notes delivered right to your inbox, you can go to jasminestar.com forward slash subscribe and I will be sending you things that are going on in my world, sharing you with what I know in real time. Let's get back in. Number one reel that was posted in less than six minutes is the handwritten quote, The shoot time was one minute and the post time was two minutes. My husband held a phone over my head and I wrote this quote using my daughter's craft paper. So y 'all, it took him about 20 seconds to record, but I said it took a minute. And so all I simply did was edit it down to about a six or seven second reel.
11:32And then I posted it. That right here did pretty well. Under six minutes got quite a bit of engagement. Number two, testimonial post. The shoot time was one minute and the post time was three minutes. Well, at an event a few weeks ago, a videographer captured this video clip as I walked into it with the winter gala. He texted it to me. A week later, I received a DM from a student with her incredible results. So I added a screenshot on top of the video. The caption was a direct shout out about the consistent 10K. Okay, let's break this down. I'm just walking into a winter gala. Their videographer takes this clip and he says, can I text it to you?
12:13I say, yes, it's sitting on my phone. Well, a week later, I get this testimonial, which was awesome. So a little bit about Bonnie. Bonnie joined our program and 32 days later, she made$44 ,000. But wait, there's more. At the end of our 90-day program, she sent me a direct message on Instagram and said, Jasmine, I made$112 ,000 in the 90 days we worked together. So of course, I need another testimonial video about her success. But what I'm wanting to show here is creating content in less than six minutes. Somebody had just taken this video, sent it to me. I put the screenshot on top of the video.
12:49And in less than six minutes, that was done. And it was a direct shout out to a business I am growing. Number three, straight to camera. The shoot time was four minutes. And we divide that out. It was two minutes to record and two minutes to add the text doing the editing. And the post time was one minute. I set my phone on the bathroom counter while I did my hair. I shared a quote I saw on TikTok. The total real length was 10 seconds. I was doing my get ready morning routine. I would be doing that anyway. So in my mind, I'm thinking, what are things that I'm doing in real time that I could just document so I can kill two birds with one stone?
13:27Well, except I don't like violence. that I can get two scoops of ice cream for the price of one. I set my phone out, I'm curling my hair, I recited the quote, and then all of a sudden, I just added the text of the quote on the reel and it performed extraordinarily well. Here again, a piece of content in less than six minutes from beginning, middle, and end. Number four, a lifestyle video clip, the shoot time. It was one minute. It was a six second clip, but it took me about one minute to add the text. And the post time, it took me about three minutes. We went to the beach. My daughter removed her hair wrap and made a flag.
14:04I was able to capture about six minutes before she ran off to build her castle. I added one of my favorite quotes and explained the wish I had for my daughter. This reel was six seconds and I added the text on the reel on our drive back home. in total completion time, it was less than six minutes and it did so well. It got so much engagement and it resonated. And all I'm trying to do is do what? Mixed interest with consistency so that my content gets attention. Number five, ask me anything. The shoot time was five minutes. It was one minute to film, four minutes to edit, and posting time took one minute.
14:48I simply sat in front of my camera for 30 seconds and recorded myself putting my hair in a bun. In Instagram edits, I edited the video to eight seconds to keep the visuals engaging. I added texts for people to comment their questions for me. Boom, done. So I set my camera up. I sat down. I threw my hair in a bun and I recorded the entirety length of that. That was about one minute. But I got that one minute and I just said, okay, splice, splice, splice, splice, splice to six seconds. And then I said, Hey, I'm going to do a Q and a drop your questions below. That took less than six minutes. What am I doing?
15:23Driving engagement so that I can respond to questions and I can create personal relationships in terms of the marketing that I am creating. Yes. And amen. And that brings us to piece of content. Number six, that you can create in less than six minutes. Number six, a how to the shoot time was one minute to film. Now this one's a little bit 10 minutes to edit and the post time was one minute to get it to post. Okay, so let me explain what happened. Remember that post I just showed you about me putting my hair in a bun? I said, let me ask your questions. Well, I got a lot of questions and I wanted to respond thoughtfully.
15:58And so in order for me to respond thoughtfully, I used my voice to text app so that I can have a long, thoughtful response. So I was creating a tutorial based on that. Now, in the future, I will be able to edit those much faster because now I know what I'm doing. So it took me about 10 minutes, but in the future, I am pretty sure that I can get this thing under six minutes. So I'm going to go back and read the disclosure because I'm a law school dropout just to make sure that people don't come at me and be like, you lied. In full disclosure, it was the first time I created a video in the style, so I wasn't organized.
16:28But when I create this type of post again, it'll take me just a few minutes because I learned a lot of the lessons when it came to preparing for the edit, like having screenshots ready instead of trying to do two things at once. So there you have it, folks. Six posts under six minutes. No excuses. This is a pretty surefire way for you to show up on social media at minimum six times this week. So I want to know. Send me a direct message on Instagram and tell me you're going to be committed to the six posts under six minutes. If you're watching on YouTube, drop it in the comments below. Like literally let it be known you ain't messing around because you're going to be marketing your business.
17:10Now let's get into another question. Jasmine, thoughts on posting multiple times daily for growth versus authority versus four times a week, small account. So let me just break this down because it was a very short question. There's a group of people who think that quantity is better than quality. This is a quantity versus quality question. It's like, should I have four really great, high, thoughtful think pieces? This is my response. Post as much as you can, however you can. Content is a game of repetition, not perfection. The more reps you get in, the more you'll learn and get better. Big or small account, rep is a rep.
17:44That's what I posted on Instagram. But allow us, because we're going to go a little bit deeper, to actually get into like the real, real of it. What you're seeing right now is a look at the content I post. This is a screen grab at random. You will see the disparity between the types of reps that I'm putting. There are some reps that get hundreds of thousands, tens of thousands. There are reps that get like very little than nothing. I am not in control of the outcome. I am in control of the effort. And so I want to remind you that a rep, even if it's big, small, bad, ugly, or fugly, is better than no rep at all.
18:23that's what I really want to hone in right now. There's no such thing as perfect. There's no such thing as good. And listen, you're only ever as good as the last rep that you put out. Hey, that's ugly. Nobody wants to hear that. It's also the truth. All right, hold on, I should pause. People on my team have been telling me that I need to be more approachable and nice. Just say, everybody's got, you got it, girl. You got it, boyfriend. You do. Both things can be true. There's tough love and the reality that if you're trying your best, I see you, I got you. I'm also gonna be pushing you a little bit along.
18:56Okay, there's the balance. Team, I listen to you, okay? I listen to you, Shafiq. Team, I listen to you. Okay, okay, okay. Let's get into our next question. Are you getting most clients with organic traffic or ads? My response was organic and ads. To determine the best ads, I test organic first and then turn on the best performers into ads. That is what I said out online. That is true. However, let's get into the nitty gritty. This is about showing the visuals of what I had been creating. Now, when I am talking about creating ads, sometimes I do spend time formulating a specific ad and other times I'm just looking at, let me just test.
19:35A rep is a rep. So what you're looking at right now, this is an organic reel that got over 54 ,000 people reach. Great. And this is the screenshot of the title, Change Your Life Money. Now, if we get into the actual analytics, what we're seeing was 717 people liked it. There was 692 comments. Three people reposted it and 109 people shared it. Now, this was just a six second clip that I'd added text on top of. So this right here is like an ad. Like I'm not paying an ad agency. I'm literally doing this on my phone. I was literally doing it when I was at Palm Springs by a pool by myself. So here again, we're removing excuses to create organic content.
20:21So when I saw this organic content, I was like, yo, we need to turn this into an ad. Organic already did its job. Let's get into our next question. Can I create a digital offer by selling via DMs only without actually posting daily? And then this person writes LinkedIn. So they're asking me on my LinkedIn profile, do you think that would work? And my response on Instagram was one, yes, I see it every day. Two, it's possible, but you're making it harder on yourself. Posting is the best way to build trust in a short amount of time. Showcase who you are and your point of view. Differentiate from your competitors.
20:57Posting takes time, but it compounds your direct message efforts. So she doesn't want to create that warm-up content. I look at social media the same way that I would look at any social situation. I'm talking about a cocktail party, a farmer's market. If I had a storefront on Main Street USA, I am not going to just to cross my fingers and hope and expect that somebody's gonna come to me. I don't. I believe that social media is your storefront. And if nobody's coming into your store, would you just sit in your store and say, I hope they come, I'm so upset that they're not. Nobody gets my value.
21:36Or would you get a broom, walk outside and start sweeping just so what? People can see you clean? No, so you can have conversations with people who are passing by. I believe that your organic content is you opening the window shades and turning on the lights and letting people know your store is there. And what are you going to do to have people go into the store? Have conversations. That's what a direct message is. And I know that people only like, do you think I can only do this? Well, sure, anything's possible. I don't know if it's advisable. What I wanna do is I wanna introduce you to Katie.
22:10Katie is a non-diet advocate. She is a nutritionist. And here you're going to see, she told me via DM, I've enrolled 23 clients since the start of the Consistent 10K. It's$17 ,000 in less than 90 days, which is wild. I'm so excited. Now, when you look at Katie, you might think she might need tens of thousands and go viral. Not at all. What you're looking at right now is she has less than 4 ,000 followers, and she doesn't do anything like over the top or truly remarkable. She literally gets on camera and she talks about being the non-diet dietitian. And she's an intuitive eating coach. So what does she know about content?
22:49It's interest-based. It's getting to the right person with the right message with the right offer. So if you're asking me, can you sell via DM only? Sure. But can you create less than six seconds content? Can you just put up your camera and talk about your offer for your person in your way with the right message? I have always believed it is the right message for the right person with the right offer. So you have one way to sell, one way to convert with one clear offer, with one clear result, and you do that till you get$1 million. And until we're there, that's gonna be your main focus. Next question.
23:24How do you stay on track in a launch when the top of funnel, for example, a freebie, won't match the goal? Okay, been there, done that. I've had a series of launches that at the beginning did not start faring well. So when you are familiar with launching, AKA putting out a product in a new way, creating promotional things around it, creating a timeline, that's like a launch. So if a sunglass company is launching a new pair of sunglasses, they're gonna be putting it out. If dog treats are having like seasonal dog treats, that's a launch, they're gonna be putting it out. Now, when you have an online business with an online offer, you might have launches, something special or a finite time.
24:01And so what we had done is we've done these so often and we do them, if I might say, extraordinarily well. But at the beginning, you can actually start predicting how the launch will fare within the first two days. When you aren't trending towards your goals in the first two days, you can either say, c 'est la vie, or you can say, what are we gonna do to turn this ship around? So here's what I told her. Number one, launch new freebies as soon as possible. Number two, go live on Instagram. Number three, post two to three times a day during your launch. Number four, post a story daily with a launch call to action.
24:33So these are the things that I'm actually looking for specifically when it comes to marketing. Why? I'll say it again. A rep is a rep. It should be a non-negotiable. No excuses because your marketing efforts are proportional to your business growth. I've noticed that when things aren't working the way that I want in terms of marketing, it is not to peel back. It is to do more and more to finally figure out what is actually going to work. And as a second reminder, consistency. I want you to shoot at least one piece of content a day and be posting. Why? Here's a reminder. Everything is content. Everything.

25:12What you'll see, I've recorded pieces of content of me at the gym, not because I think I'm great and not because I think I look good. It's actually quite the opposite. I'm not that great and I don't look good, but it's the process of getting there. I am okay showing the journey to say and prove that a rep is a rep. So my goal is every single day, can I create content? Can I just record something in my day? It doesn't have to be good, but I'm just putting it on my phone in a little content library. I don't know how I'm going to use it, but I'm going to have it. So now we get to the main thing. My question to you is, are you in for the next 60 days?
25:45Could you create a 60 second piece of content every single day and find a snippet in that to help you market your business? If you are, I want to hear from you. You can send me a DM at Jasmine Star. Why? Because I care. I care about this show. I care about your business when I don't even know about your business. Because here's one thing that I have come to know and deeply understand is that having a business gives you unlimited upside, unlimited possibility. Whereas a nine to five, even if you love it, you know you're capped. So what happens when you become the captain of your ship and the master of your destiny?
26:22When you can create content that empowers you to give a result to somebody who desperately needs it in the world. It is not sales. It is creating value around a result.
