The Long-Term Investor podcast shows you how by distilling complex financial matters into easily digestible lessons. And now here's your host, chief investment officer at PlanCorp and the author of Making Money Simple, Peter Lazaroff.
0:21Peter Lazaroff:Welcome back to The Long-Term Investor. Today is the day. I am so excited that The Perfect Portfolio is now available anywhere you can buy books. There's a link at the top of the episode description that will take you straight to Amazon. But truly, anywhere you buy books, you can go get The Perfect Portfolio. And last week, I had the privilege of signing a couple hundred pre-released copies at Future Proof, which is the world's largest wealth festival. and all this week feedback's been rolling in that just has me so excited and so pumped up to spread the word. Today's episode is mostly just to announce that the book is live and again would really appreciate your consideration for purchasing a copy.
1:03Peter Lazaroff:Now just to give you a sense of how excited I was for this book to come out last night I was reading in bed with my youngest son and every night the two of us will read our own books side by side. It's a great tradition. I don't know if will ever stop it. I hope he always wants me to come read with him at night. But I didn't have a new book in hand. I just finished one recently. So I went to the bookshelf and I picked up Winning the Losers Game by Charles Ellis. And Charlie Ellis's book has had an enormous influence on my career. And I'm also thrilled, truly like a great honor of my professional life, that Charlie read the manuscript for The Perfect Portfolio multiple times and gave me thoughtful feedback all along the way.
1:42But last night, as I was rereading his classic, I kept thinking about what has changed and what hasn't. Diversification still works. Costs still matter. Investor behavior still determines a huge portion of the outcome. And it's these core lessons from the classics like winning the loser's game or a random walk down Wall Street or the intelligent investor that remain as important as ever. But the investing landscape has changed dramatically. We have better data, better technology, better investment vehicles, more tax-aware tools, and in some cases, far more complexity than investors actually need.
2:22And that is why I wrote The Perfect Portfolio. I wanted to bring the timeless principles of successful investing into today's world without burying readers in unnecessary details. The goal in my mind was to create a clear framework for deciding what belongs in your portfolio, when a change is justified, and when the best decision is to leave some things alone. Now, this is my 20th year in the profession, and I think what I bring to the conversation is two decades of sitting across from real people and helping them make these decisions when markets or taxes or family or emotions all collide. And, you know, I mentioned a few hundred advanced copies went out last week, and the early feedback has just given me some comfort that this book will really help people.
3:09More specifically, people keep mentioning the clarity, and I'm just so thrilled to hear that because I was going for something that's practical and relatively short and written to be understood, not sound clever. So today it's officially available. If you've been planning to read The Perfect Portfolio, now is a very good day to buy it. Any day is a good day to buy it. But everyone who has already bought it, thank you so much.
3:35Peter Lazaroff:I hope it helps you make better decisions with your money for a very long time. Again, the link is at the top of the episode description to buy the book. Next week, we'll be back with our regular content of interviews and solo episodes. So again, thank you everybody for following me along in this journey. and until next time, to long-term investing.
