In short

Free Therapy with Ben & Kevin introduces the show’s premise: weekly conversations with different therapists to address anxiety, work, family dynamics, and dating/relationships. Key claims include that trying to eliminate anxiety can fuel more anxiety; people have hundreds/thousands of thoughts daily and many are “trash” to mentally “spam folder”; individuals must choose which personal problem set to work on; and “modern masculine” roles should be redefined as emotional contribution rather than financial provision. Notable example: therapist Leah Miller’s reminder, “You’re not incurable… you’re having a normal human experience.”

0:00Hey, I'm Ben. I have OCD, I'm codependent, and my mom's a therapist, so I've been talking about my feelings ever since I learned to talk. And I'm Kevin. I'm a recovering people pleaser, and I'm so codependent, I've been mediating my parents' divorce for the past four years. And we're the hosts of Free Therapy, because we think everyone could use a little bit of therapy. Especially us. That's why each week we sit down with a different therapist to talk through the things that we're all dealing with. If you're trying to get rid of anxiety, you're actually fueling more anxiety. We have hundreds and thousands of thoughts a day.

0:36Most of them are trash. You can put a lot of them in the spam folder. We talked to some of the leading therapists in the country about all of life's headaches, work, family dynamics, and of course, dating and relationships. Everyone chooses a different set of problems, challenges, flaws. You have to figure out which set of problems you're willing to work with. And Ben, what's the one question we're all trying to figure out? Oh yeah, this comes up so much. How are we defining a modern masculine man? A lot has changed since our parents' generation. If you don't need to depend on a man for resources and to provide, what does a man contribute to a relationship?

1:15The needs are more emotional. There's so much we get into on the show, But if there's one thing we constantly remind ourselves of, it's exactly what therapist Leah Miller told us. You're not incurable. You're not broken. You're having a normal human experience. And we have a solution for that. And that solution is free therapy. Because therapy is expensive. But thankfully, podcasts aren't. Listen to Free Therapy with Ben and Kevin wherever you get your podcasts.

From the publisher

We’re two best friends having unfiltered conversations about the modern sh*t we all go through, with a rotating cast of top therapists to help us unpack it all.

We’re not experts, just very curious, slightly unhinged, and can label our feelings (most of the time).

Come hang with us as we have the uncomfortable conversations about dating, love, sex, mental health, loneliness, friendships, grief and everything else that only Alex Cooper talks about.
