OpenAI, Anthropic, and Outside Security researchers reportedly investigating tens of thousands of alarming incidents involving their most advanced AI models. Axios reporting behavior ranging from attempts to bypass safeguards and monitoring systems to agents escaping restricted testing environments, hijacking websites, and creating message boards to communicate.
09The incidents occurring over recent months, both during internal testing and in the real world. Some notably arising from tests deliberately designed to push the models into misbehaving. The incidents include attempts that failed to bypass security restrictions, while most are not known to have caused real-world harm. Some incidents, however, reaching beyond the testing environment. OpenAI agents leaked 53 ChatGPT users' images online and breached an Australian government website, while also attempting to access other sites, including U.S. government websites, according to Axios. OpenAI now pausing training and other work involving tools on its most capable models while it reviews its safeguards.
54Anthropic reportedly conducting its own review, including outside examination of its model's behaviors. The disclosures fueling fears that advanced AI, long dubbed superintelligence, a name President Trump recently proposed using to rename regular AI, could someday completely escape human control. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates arguing yesterday on NBC that the doomsday scenario is distracting from more immediate dangers. A complete loss of control is very different than saying, you know, a bioweapon kills 20 million people or that, you know, bank accounts get scrambled. You know, we care about things way short of the ultimate doomsday scenario.
43And I'm afraid that's kind of distracting people. There is not a current risk of these AIs getting completely out of control. The same monitoring that we put in to avoid bad people using AI is exactly the monitoring you want to see if the AI itself is initiating harmful activity. But the thing that's urgent has to do with bad people using AI, not the AI going off on its own. It has, you know, in a sense, I'd say it's good that these loss of control incidents have gotten people focused on A &I, even though that's not the imminent risk. In a sign of how urgent the issue is in America, President Trump meeting privately last night with Anthropics CEO Dario Amadei, one of the leading voices calling for AI development to slow down and urging more regulation.
40Amadei missing Thursday's state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping, where many of the country's biggest tech CEOs were in attendance. Axios reporting Amadei had a scheduling conflict and that Mr. Trump invited him to a separate dinner with Mr. Trump last night. Mr. Trump rejecting calls for a slowdown, arguing the U.S. cannot afford to lose its lead over China. Attorney General Todd Blanche yesterday on ABC defending the administration's position. It is so important and vital to our national security interest and to the success of this country that the United States lead, lead in this space.
16And so what President Trump has said and what we expect to do every single day is make sure that we have a forum in this country to be the leader in this technology. Now, does that mean along the way there's going to be concerns, there's going to be adjustments that have to be made, of course. And by the way, the leaders of AI, they have tools already. If they need to curb that and they need to bring that in and adjust the technology, they can do that. But in the meantime, the answer is not to just try to all of a sudden try to regulate this in a way that will make us second or third place in the world as far as being the leaders in this space.
56Despite the competition with China, the U.S. reaching an agreement with the country to communicate when potentially dangerous AI incidents occur. Following last week's Trump-Xi summit, the White House saying the two countries will establish a direct channel for those incidents and will meet again by November to discuss the technology's risks and benefits. A pair of new reports raising fresh questions about the warnings Israel received before Hamas' October 7th attack and what its leaders did in reaction to them. Earlier this month, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reporting the president of the United Arab Emirates called Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in late September 2023, reportedly warning that Hamas was preparing a major attack.
42In response to that report, the prime minister strongly rejecting the allegations and threatening a lawsuit. The New York Times now reporting two people with knowledge of the call corroborate the warning was given, but Mr. Netanyahu apparently did not communicate the plan to colleagues. Five former Israeli officials telling the paper they were not informed of the warning. The Times reviewing minutes from an October 1st meeting about the ongoing issues in Gaza, finding Mr. Netanyahu did not mention the call. Some security officials reportedly proposing strikes against Hamas leaders in Gaza at this meeting in connection with pre-existing concerns about the group.
21Netanyahu reportedly pushing back at that proposed tactic, instead warning military action could jeopardize a possible deal to establish diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia. Netanyahu denying he received the phone call or the warning from the UAE. A separate investigation by The Atlantic reporting that Egypt's intelligence chief, Abbas Kamel flew to Israel on September 26, 2023, also reportedly warning officials that Hamas appeared to be preparing a major assault. Kamel's plane spending just 67 minutes on the ground, he reportedly urged economic concessions to avert a conflict, and Egypt continued raising concerns in the days before the attack.
03The warnings reportedly lacked a date or a clear account of how Hamas would attack. The Atlantic reporting it remains unclear who met with the Egyptian official and whether his message reached Netanyahu. Israel's former national security advisor denying both the visit and any Egyptian warning. Former Biden administration officials telling the Atlantic that neither Egypt nor the UAE shared those warnings with the U.S. The CIA reportedly issuing its own alerts about a possible escalation in Gaza at the time, but those pointed toward rocket fire, not the coordinated invasion Hamas would carry out.
40The Haaretz and New York Times reports landing ahead of Israel's October 27th election, the first vote since the attack. Netanyahu blaming security officials for failing to prevent the terror, while his opponents pressed for an independent inquiry into what his government knew. Coming up, President Trump predicting new talks with Iran this week after rejecting its latest offer to open the Strait of Hormuz, and Pope Leo receiving a massive welcome on a visit to France, where faith has long been in decline, finding a new generation eager to prove the Catholic Church still has a future there.
25We are still a couple months out, but the midterms are fast approaching. And make no mistake, If the house flips, it's a big deal for our economy. That uncertainty is one of the reasons to consider diversifying with gold from Birch Gold Group. In the three months leading up to the 2024 presidential election, the price of gold jumped over 12%. Why? It's a hedge. It's a hedge against uncertainty. If you do not own gold, consider talking with Birch Gold. And the sooner the better, frankly. And you could even just do part of it if you didn't, you know, you wanna like hedge that bet even. Text the letters MK to the number 989898 and get started with free info, all right? And some solid information. The midterms are gonna be here before you know it. We're already end of September. Text MK to the number 989898 now. Here we go again. President Trump saying he expects more talks with Iran this week, despite rejecting Tehran's latest proposal over the weekend.
40The president telling Axios yesterday Iran wants a deal, but the terms it offered are not ones he would accept. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi presenting the proposal to U.S. envoys Steve Whitcoff and Jared Kushner through Qatari mediators at the U.N. last Tuesday. According to Axios, Iran offering to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume nuclear talks within a week if the U.S. lifts its naval blockade, removes sanctions on Iranian oil sales, and restores a ceasefire across the region. Asked about the alleged proposal as he left the White House Saturday, Mr. Trump arguing the U.S. has the upper hand in the Strait.
17Well, I'm rejecting the deal. They want to make a deal where they open the Strait immediately because they're losing so badly. We have total control of the Harmo Strait. Massive amounts of oil are coming out of the Harmo Strait. They want to make a deal. And I think that's fine. I like making a deal, too. But I'm not that deal would not be acceptable. They don't have any money now because they wanted to close the strait. And I said, that's fine. We're going to close it on you. But everybody else is able to use it. U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Mike Walsh yesterday on NBC further elaborating on the president's objection to the alleged proposed deal.
56There's a number of reasons, but with this offer came a request to have access to billions in frozen funds, came a request for the lifting of sanctions. These aren't just the United States' sanctions. These are global sanctions. So I would love to hear you ask the foreign minister, why does Iran need to enrich to 60 percent, which is a pathway to a bomb? The Wall Street Journal reporting President Trump has told aides he expects to resume bombing Iran after the November midterms, citing U.S. officials. Asked by Axios Sunday whether he is considering renewed strikes, the president saying he is, quote, always thinking about it.
38The Iranian foreign minister yesterday on NBC responding to that report. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that President Trump expects to resume bombing Iran after the midterms. As you know, he stood at the U.N. and threatened to annihilate Iran. Are you preparing for this war to resume? We are fully prepared for the war to be resumed. And I repeat, we stand firm in the face of any new aggression, even if it comes to a doomsday war. But at the same time, we are ready, we stand ready for diplomacy. It is up to President Trump to choose. In an interview recorded Friday before Mr. Trump rejected the proposal, CBS pressing Iranian President Mazoud Pajewskian on whether he would allow international inspectors back into Iran's nuclear facilities.
29The IAEA said they were not being given full access. UN inspectors weren't being allowed in. they said they couldn't guarantee the peaceful nature of your program and say now you have 440 kilograms of 60 percent enriched uranium. So they want to be able to verify that that won't be made into a weapon. Will your country allow in weapons inspectors now? That is absolutely correct. This occurred after America chose to tear up the JCPOA. Iran waited for one year in order for the European counterparts to live up to their commitments within the JCPOA. They failed to do so. Iran left the JCPOA and continued on the path that it saw fit.
17Now, if they want to come in and have inspections, we can reach accords and agreements vis-a-vis that specific topic within the negotiations. Pope Leo XIV wrapping up a four-day trip to France today after a welcome that brought nearly a million people into the streets of Paris. The American Pope arriving Friday for the first official papal state visit to France in 18 years. President Emmanuel Macron receiving him at the Alize Palace before Pope Leo prayed at the restored Notre Dame Cathedral, becoming the first pope to do so since the 2019 fire. Thousands gathering outside Notre Dame as Pope Leo led evening prayers inside the restored cathedral.
01Afterward, the Pope stepping out to join them visibly moved as the crowd sang. That night, 80 ,000 young Catholics filling the Stade de France for a prayer vigil, musical performances, and fireworks. Pope Leo thanking them for their faith and telling them, quote, you are the saints of France. Saturday bringing the biggest reception of the trip. Flag-waving crowds lining the Champs -Élysées and gathering around the Arc de Triomphe with Pope Leo, passing in the Popemobile on his way to celebrate an outdoor mass at the Place de la Concorde. The Vatican, estimating 800 ,000 people attending, about 200 ,000 more than had registered.
43From the heart of Paris, Pope Leo praying that faith would spread throughout France. The turnout especially striking in a country where a 2025 survey found a majority of adults do not believe in God. The French bishops, however, reporting 13 ,234 adults were baptized this year, more than triple the number a decade ago. Young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 now making up the largest age group. The Pope making time Saturday to meet people preparing for baptism and those newly baptized. The Pope saying their stories defy pessimism about the Church's future, while urging French Catholics to welcome the recent converts and help them find a lasting home in their parishes.
25Pope Leo then traveling to Lourdes, celebrating Mass Sunday at the shrine known for drawing pilgrims seeking healing. Last night, Pope Leo joining thousands of pilgrims at Lourdes for a rosary and candlelight procession. Holding candles as they walked through the shrine, the crowd hearing the Pope reflect on the hope he says carries people through suffering. Here, a moment translated by EWTN News. The light that guides us and draws us onward is the light of hope, which never abandons us, even as we journey through this life. A life often marked by trials, yet already filled with the joy of knowing ourselves to be children of God.
10loved and saved by Jesus. Today, Pope Leo heading for Metz for an inter-religious gathering, a speech on peace and European unity, and one final Mass before returning to Rome.
