In short

Episode topic: MAGA House Speaker Mike Johnson shuts down the House as a Senate parliamentarian blocks $1 billion in reconciliation funding for Donald Trump’s “golden ballroom,” amid a right-wing Christian nationalism event “Rededicate 250” on the National Mall and broader GOP political messaging (abortion pill mifepristone, redistricting, kitchen-table issues, election claims).

Guests and backgrounds

No guests are interviewed in the transcript. Mentioned figures include Scott McFarland (Midas Touch Network chief DC correspondent), Anthony Gross (Gen Z faith influencer), and acting Attorney General Todd Blanch (appears in a clip).

Key claims

Parliamentarian ruling requires 60 votes for the ballroom funding; GOP uses shutdown and reconciliation tactics to “jam” money through. “Rededicate 250” is portrayed as performative Christian nationalism. Trump’s prerecorded speech is criticized as edited/poorly delivered. GOP messaging targets transgender rights and immigration; Johnson emphasizes mifepristone oversight and “fair” redistricting.

Notable examples

Franklin Graham calls to stop gay marriage/transgenderism; Robert Jeffress praises Christian nationalism; Tim Scott leads “Jesus” chants; Rubio claims America thrives due to the “right religion”; Trump memes about painting the reflecting pool blue; Johnson discusses Supreme Court handling of mifepristone mail-in rules and Louisiana gerrymandering.

3:08Ben Meiselas:MAGA Mike Johnson, the Republican Speaker of the House, shut down Congress. Once again, you heard it right there. The next time Congress gets back into session, tomorrow, they just don't do any work under MAGA Mike Johnson. Now, MAGA Mike was panicking because the Senate parliamentarian knocked out the$1 billion in funding that the House was going to give in the reconciliation bill for Donald Trump's golden ballroom. So MAGA Mike shut down the House of Representatives in order to regroup and figure out how to loot and pillage a billion dollars from American taxpayers to now pay for the golden ballroom.

3:53Ben Meiselas:And so because this was a reconciliation bill, the MAGAs were trying to do an end run around the 60 vote cloture requirement in the United States Senate. Otherwise, it would be subject to a filibuster because they really wanted to get Donald Trump that$1 billion for his golden ballroom. But you see the Senate parliamentarian, it's this little known position, but has a lot of power when the Senate tries to pass things through reconciliation with the House versus needing the kind of 60 vote marker in order to avoid a filibuster. But the Senate parliamentarian made a ruling that this reconciliation bill cannot have the golden ballroom$1 billion of funding in it.

4:40Ben Meiselas:Here's how it was announced. Senate parliamentarian just knocked out the provision and the Republican bill to spend$1 billion on Trump's ballroom per the budget committee Dems. They challenged it and they won the challenge in front of the parliamentarian. While we expect Republicans to change this bill, Senator Merkley says, this bill to appease Trump, Democrats are prepared to challenge any change to this bill whatsoever. Midas Touch Network's chief DC correspondent, Scott McFarland says, tough break for Donald Trump's ballroom. The Senate parliamentarian rules that the$1 billion project would require 60 votes for approval per Senate Budget Committee Democrats, a very, very steep climb.

5:24Ben Meiselas:It cannot pass with 50 as the MAGAs were trying to jam this one in. So what are the MAGA Republicans doing right now in addition to shutting down Congress, shutting down the House of Representatives? I mean, you're probably like, Ben, is this deja vu? You told us in the last video last week they shut down Congress. Then you did one two weeks before. This is what MAGA Mike is doing because he runs the House like the Russian Duma, a rubber stamp for dear leader Donald Trump. It's so sickening. But in addition to shutting it down, the MAGA Republicans over the weekend held something called Rededicate 250, Rededicate 250, where it basically was this kind of right-wing, kind of phony Christian nationalism, like Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, but not actually living the values, just like treating Jesus like it was like a football game.

6:19Ben Meiselas:He's like a football game or something. And they bring up these so-called pastors and these so-called religious leaders. And they're like, and God blessed us to give Donald a ballroom that's golden. Ladies and gentlemen, we're going to give him a golden ballroom. I'm serious. That's my impression right there. Here is one of these pastors. God wants him to have a ballroom. So as the ballroom has been struck down by a court and by the Senate parliamentarian, here's what's going on. Here, play this clip. It's hard to believe that it would take two centuries for the Lord to raise up a great man to bring that ballroom finally to stand where it needs to stand.

7:07It's extraordinary. We only had to wait 200 years.

7:11Ben Meiselas:Then you have MAGA Republican Senator Tim Scott give a speech and he's like, and everybody, when I say Jesus, I want to hear you shout Jesus. And it's like, okay, like y 'all are covering up the Epstein files. Like you're covering up child sex trafficking rings. Okay. Donald Trump is like the most, I don't care if you're religious or not religious. Donald Trump's the most low class, low character, immoral sicko that freaking ever existed, or at least one of them here. But we can play this clip so you can hear for yourself. Jesus, Tim Scott. Let's play it. How many of you love Jesus? I can't hear you.

7:54I said, how many of you love Jesus? Oh, yeah.

8:01Ben Meiselas:And they bring on Reverend Franklin Graham. And Reverend Franklin Graham says, we need to stop gay marriage. We need to stop the transgender. We need to stop people from loving people. And we need to hate in the name of Jesus. We need to hate each other. I'm serious. This is what Franklin Graham says. It's a Christian nationalism hate rally on the National Mall. Here play this clip. America has become morally wrought, completely sick with sin, transgenderism, same-sex marriage, opening women's locker rooms to men are just the tip of the iceberg. Why do we need to rededicate ourselves? When God sent the flood and destroyed the earth, it was because man's heart had become so evil and violent.

8:53In the news, we see unimaginable violence, rapes, murders, mass shootings. On YouTube, there's so much violence. Movies, video games are full of violence. We have an insasable appetite for violence. And I believe this grieves the heart of God and will bring his judgment if we don't repent as a nation.

9:15Ben Meiselas:And then you had another so-called pastor, a MAGA pastor, Robert Jeffress, tells the people gathered that if the founding fathers were around today, they would call themselves Christian nationalists also. Here, let's play this clip. These leaders who loved our country and loved our God would be called Christian nationalists today. And it is a title they would have gladly embraced. By the way, if being a Christian nationalist means loving Jesus Christ and loving America, count me in. Then you have J.D. Vance. He appeared via pre-recorded video at this thing, and he's like, pray for me, will you?

10:01Ben Meiselas:Will you pray for me? I ask you from the bottom of my heart, pray for me. I need your prayers right now more than ever. These people are the biggest con artists in the world. And you know J.D. Vance's history, right? In high school, J.D. Vance said that he was gay. And then he said he got gay conversion. His name wasn't even J.D. Vance. It was another name. And then he said that he's not gay because he got gay conversion. And then he came out as like an Appalachia. I'm an Appalachian, one of the Appalachians, from the suburbs of Cincinnati. And he was trying to act like, I'm an anti-Trumper and Donald Trump is Hitler, is what he would say.

10:41Ben Meiselas:And then he became like an anti-gay Trump sycophant. Like, this guy's, and then he's involved with three different names. So he goes, pray for me. Here, play this clip. And just as I pray for all of you, I ask for your prayers for me, for the president, and for the entire cabinet. I always ask people to pray for wisdom and for courage for their leadership. Pray for wisdom that we know the path God wants us to walk. Pray for courage that we have the ability to walk that path. You'll be in my prayers as I hope I'll be in yours. May God bless you all. Then Maga Mike Johnson, who shut down the house, he gives a speech and just goes, and it's Tom.

11:24Ben Meiselas:We rededicate ourself and say, God, God, we know what you need to do. I mean, just stop with this stuff. And again, if you're religious, if you're not religious, if you're no religion, I want you just to be a good person. And I don't want you to use the Bible or any religion as a pretext to harm people like these MAGAs. How dare they use the Bible and religion in order to engage in such sickening, disgusting behavior? Here's what MAGA Mike says. Let's play it. Lord, today we pray that you grant us that same devotion to these United States. Give us courage, Lord. Make us worthy of all those who devoted and sacrificed their lives so that a government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth.

12:21Almighty God, we ask that you hear these solemn petitions, just as we in the beginning dedicated this land to your most holy name. Today, here, Lord, in this 250th year of American independence, we hereby rededicate the United States of America as one nation under God.

12:42Ben Meiselas:And then they bring on Marco Rubio. And Marco Rubio is like, before the West in the United States, history was filled with all of these other civilizations that went nowhere because they didn't have the right religion. But because we've got the right religion, we're thriving. It's like, okay, dude, shut the heck up, you idiot. You're a clown. You're a fraud. You're a phony. Nobody's buying your shtick. Here's what Mark, pathetic Mark, he looks sweaty too. He looks all sweaty and freaking gross. Here play this clip. It is no coincidence that America from the very beginning has occupied a unique and exceptional place in world history.

13:26Before the Christian West, most societies and civilizations for that matter thought in stagnant cycles, the flooding of denial, the return of the rains, the cycle of the harvest. History for them was a wheel to nowhere. It turned and turned only to end up back where it began. But our faith calls us outwards into the limitless darkness of the unknown. It tells us to go forth and preach the gospel to the world as a witness unto all nations, unto the ends of the earth. From that command came America. Our nation, more than any other in history, was shaped by this Christian idea.

14:07Ben Meiselas:before continuing one quick psa for the mightest mighty when it comes to medicare most medicare agents push medicare advantage plans even when they're not right for you because they make more money doing it that's why we strongly recommend you do what thousands in our audience have already done speak with chapter please they don't just share the amazing benefits of medicare advantage They explain the pros and cons of all your Medicare options. Original Medicare, Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage, and Part D. Chapter supports you in comparing every plan against your specific healthcare needs because they want to ensure you have the best coverage for you.

14:50Ben Meiselas:One chapter member, Jill, said her advisor presented options she didn't even see on the Medicare.gov website. And in many cases, Chapter saves people over$1 ,100 a year by getting them on the right plan. So if you're on Medicare or will be soon, dial 82 Medicare and get honest advice from Chapter. That's 82 Medicare. It's free and quick. They can review your options in under 20 minutes. If you're on the right plan already, they'll tell you. If you're not, they could help you save thousands the way they have with thousands of members of the Midas Mighty. And just so you also see how Fox was covering it, here's how they were covering it on Fox.

15:33Ben Meiselas:Let's play. We're back live from the National Mall at the Rededicate 250 event where thousands are gathering for a day of prayer and faith. For more, let's bring in the Gen Z faith influencer, Anthony Gross. Anthony, you're everywhere now. What is your hope for this event? For people watching this event, what do you want them to take away? I think hope. I think hope is my hope. And getting alignment and unification. As Anarchy Princess also explains, they gave out swag bags at this event, this rededicate, but you weren't allowed to bring the bags in. These MAGAs aren't exactly good planners, as we see all over the place.

16:16Ben Meiselas:Hormuz, everybody. So they gave out swag bags right before people entered, and then it's no swag bags allowed. So here's your swag bag, and then you got to throw it in the guard, the stupidest people in the world. So that's what they did. And then the big speech of Donald Trump at Rededicate 250. And as our editor-in-chief, Ron Filipkowski says, holy shit, this is a prerecorded message with lots of obvious edits, and this is the best he can do. He looks like a cadaver, sounds like he's on a ventilator, and can't even properly read sections that come from a book he's never read. Here, play this clip.

16:54And in his own house, he prosperously affected. And the Lord appeared to Solomon by night and said to him, I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place to myself for a house of sacrifice. If I shut up heaven, that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people, if my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

17:37Ben Meiselas:But he did post lots of bizarre memes like, coming soon, the reflecting pool. This is going to drive the libs angry, man. We're going to paint the reflecting pool blue and turn it into a real pool. And when it grows additional algae and you'll see it more because it'll be bright blue, so you'll see all of the green. And as it continues to leak, that's going to own the libs, man. That's what we do. What do we stand for on the right wing? We're on the libs, man. You know, like Americans are suffering. They can't afford anything, groceries, gas. We have like the highest credit card delinquency in generations.

18:15Ben Meiselas:Student debt delinquencies, the highest in generations. You've got people who can't find a job, but they can't buy a home. They can't pay their rent. But we're going to own the libs with reflecting pools, man. Okay, guys, you're so stupid. And then MAGA Mike Johnson shutting down Congress and talking about the issues that I know are on the top of Americans' mind, banning Mifepristone, a big deal for MAGA Mike. Let's play it. This other legal big case that came out of Louisiana, which is you guys essentially down there have been fighting the use of the abortion pill or Mifepristone because Louisiana has basically outlawed nearly all abortions, but people can get this through the mail.

18:54It went to the Supreme Court about whether it would pause an order that meant you had to at least have an in-person visit. The court's not going to do that while the case plays out. There were objections by Justices Thomas and Alito saying essentially by allowing these pills to flow into states where abortion is not widely available, it's going around the Dobbs decision. And there are calls for the administration to do something more about it. Thomas and Alito are exactly right. It's an end right around state laws. And you have a number of states who have acted it through our small democratic process to address that issue.

19:24And by mailing the drugs to women across state lines, you go around the state laws and they're exactly right. It's a serious problem. Abortions have increased in numbers since Dobbs overturned Roe. And that's a great concern to us. The mailing of this drug is a very dangerous thing. You're sending it to young women without physician oversight or assistance and people are being harmed in more ways than one. And so I think it's a big issue. I'm encouraging the administration to assist with that. And I think there's a lot of evaluation on how they can handle it. Yeah, I know there's pressure that the FDA could be doing more potentially to oversee how that moves through the system.

20:02Okay, I want to ask you, we're obviously here at this faith event.

20:04Ben Meiselas:And so, Megan, Mike, what do you say to black voters about redistricting? Here, play this clip. So what is your message to black Americans, black voters about this redistricting? The Supreme Court issued a long-awaited opinion, and I think it was long overdue, and they stated the obvious that drawing congressional lines must be fair. You cannot draw lines on the basis of race. And that's what was done in Louisiana. So they declared it to be an unconstitutional gerrymander. And it was. This brings back fairness and certainty to the system. And I think a lot of states are looking to make sure that their maps are not unconstitutional like Louisiana's was.

20:41Ben Meiselas:Very good. As you invoke the word of God, Maga Mike, that's exactly what disenfranchising black voters and gutting the Voting Rights Act. So when are we going to get back to talking about, I don't know, kitchen table issues, Mag and Mike, you want to talk about the suffering of the American people? Nah, once we deal with her moves, we'll deal with it here. Play this clip. So CBS News had some polling out this morning showing 76 % of people are concerned. 67 % say they are stressed about their own personal financial situation. You know that generally the incumbent is punished in the midterms, and people are feeling very uncertain about how they're doing personally.

21:16How do you campaign against that? Well, this relates to the last segment. we're talking about the Strait of Hormuz, really all points lead back to that. Gas prices are too high because of that. And then that has an effect on how goods are transported to the grocery store and all the rest. So as soon as we get that straightened out, we will get back to the kitchen table issues, the economic issues that we put in place to make the economy grow.

21:36Ben Meiselas:I know, so utterly pathetic. But, you know, if you take a look at Donald Trump's approval right now, you see record lows. The latest CBS YouGov poll, April was the last one that was taken. and Donald Trump's approval was 39 % in that one. Now it's at 37 % approval, 63 % disapproved. On the issue of immigration, Donald Trump's net negative 14. On the Iran war, net negative 32. On the economy, net negative 34. On inflation, net negative 46. These are historically bad numbers, and MAGA's gearing up right now. This is how CNN reported it. MAGA's are already planning to run the same playbook across the country, but specifically in Ohio, attacking Democrats as being out of step on immigration and transgender rights.

22:27Ben Meiselas:They're just going to attack the transgender community. And so the MAGA Republicans are like, Sherrod Brown, who's the Democratic candidate running for Senate there, is the absolute perfect political cicada. This is a guy who comes out of the ground and pretends he's moderate working class American and then comes here to Washington, D.C., and he's a hardcore liberal, man. He was such a hardcore liberal. It's like giving people fair wages and health care and fighting for people to have affordable homes and supporting unions and workers. Just a hardcore liberal, man. You support marginalized communities, man.

23:04Ben Meiselas:Come on. Get with the program, man. I mean, these people are, again, we just have to mock these people. They're so damn pathetic. They're all a bunch of losers. Truthfully, they're like the biggest losers in life. And here's finally what they're, as they shut down Congress, here's what the big thing they were talking about. This is Maria Bartiroma bringing on Acting Attorney General Todd Blanch. She's like, Todd, Tony, Tony, are we going to be able to prove that the 2020 election was stolen? This is what the American people want. Can we prove that the 2020, wait, that's what we talked, was the 2020 still?

23:45Ben Meiselas:That's my Maria Barnaroma impression. Let's play. So you believe there will be at some point a definitive answer to whether or not the 2020 election was stolen? I don't, I'm not going to promise there's going to be a definitive answer. That wouldn't be fair to you or anybody else, but we are looking at it and we're hoping to get one. There you have it, folks. Let me know what you think. Hit subscribe. If you like this video, let's get to 7 million subscribers. Thanks for watching, everybody.
