MeidasTouch Podcast Episode Summary: Trump Panics over Sneak Attack in War
Episode Overview In this episode of the MeidasTouch Podcast, hosts Ben, Brett, and Jordy Meiselas discuss the ongoing conflict involving Donald Trump's administration and Iran, focusing on Trump's mismanagement and recent developments that have placed the U.S. in a precarious military position.
Key Themes and Discussions
- Trump’s Missteps in the Iran Conflict
- Unlawful War: The episode highlights Trump's "unlawful war" against Iran, with Ben emphasizing that the conflict was poorly strategized, leading to significant U.S. military casualties.
- Military Dynamics: The introduction of new Iranian tactics and weapons, particularly cluster munitions, complicates the U.S. response and effectiveness. Ben mentions that these tactics overwhelm American defense systems like THAAD and Patriot missiles.
- Russia's Role and Support for Iran
- Military Cooperation: The episode reveals that Russia is providing Iran with critical military support, including advanced drone technology and intelligence. This partnership is seen as detrimental to U.S. interests in the region.
- Economic Consequences: Ben argues that Trump's removal of sanctions against Russian oil has empowered Russia financially while simultaneously contributing to a global oil crisis.
- Trump’s Dismissive Attitude
- Casual References to War: Trump’s rhetoric about the war being an "excursion" and his flippant remarks about the conflict are criticized as dismissive of the serious implications for U.S. service members and the economy.
- Morale Issues: The episode discusses how the prolonged deployment has negatively affected the morale of U.S. military personnel, with reports of inadequate living conditions aboard aircraft carriers.
Notable Quotes and Clips
- Trump refers to military operations as a "little excursion," which Ben uses to underline the gravity of the situation and the loss of life involved.
- Comments from foreign dignitaries, such as the foreign minister of Iran, are discussed to illustrate the international perspective on Trump's aggressive foreign policies.
Economic Impact
- Rising Costs: The podcast outlines the inflationary pressures resulting from the conflict, highlighting significant price increases in essential goods like coffee and beef.
- Wealth Disparity: Ben points out that while the war affects consumers, it does not seem to impact the profits of wealthy oligarchs, illustrating a growing economic divide.
Domestic Politics
- Epstein Files and Accountability: The hosts also touch on domestic political issues, including the ongoing investigations into figures like Pam Bondi in relation to the Epstein case, emphasizing the political backlash faced by Trump's allies.
Conclusion The MeidasTouch Podcast episode serves as a critical commentary on Trump's handling of the Iran conflict, illustrating the complexities of international relations, military strategy, and domestic political repercussions. The episode combines humor and seriousness, characteristic of the Meiselas brothers, to engage listeners in a thoughtful discussion about the state of U.S. democracy and foreign policy.

2:22Ben Meiselas:What you just saw right there is actual footage of Iran launching more ballistic missiles at surrounding Arab nations, particularly where there are American military bases and financial interests. This is the 61st wave of Iranian ballistic missile strikes, and the Iranian ballistic missiles are evolving as well. They're used in these cluster munitions, which we've been seeing over the past few weeks and particularly escalating the use of these cluster munitions. We saw it just last night. We'll show you visuals here in Dubai over the Dubai airport, over financial areas in Dubai and other areas in the United Arab Emirates.
3:08Ben Meiselas:We're also seeing these cluster munitions being used in Tel Aviv. They're harder to hit with the THAAD systems and the Patriot systems because the clusters spread out. And that also forces the THAAD and the Patriots to expend more munitions to try to strike it down, which means you're spending millions and millions of dollars in interceptors to strike down much cheaper weapons that are being used by Iran. So contrary to what Donald Trump is saying, where he goes, we've destroyed all their ballistic missiles. We've destroyed them. They're totally obliterated. Everything's been 100 % decimated. We basically won this war in 48 hours.
3:51Ben Meiselas:We won. Now we're just kind of hanging out and we're having fun, right? That's what Trump's saying. We may bomb them more for fun because I like it. Trump goes, I may just take Cuba while I'm at it. Last night, he was posting statehood. He wants Venezuela to be part of the United States. That's something he keeps on repeating over and over again. While he's saying all of this, the United States right now is now stuck in this never-ending quagmire in Iran right now. We have 13 service members dead, 200 injured, a lot of service members seriously injured. The USS Gerald Ford, one of the two main aircraft carriers that are right there by Iran, now has to go into a port in Greece because these ships were not meant to be out there this long.
4:43Ben Meiselas:I mean, it's almost been on deployment for about a year. We know there was a fire on March 12th, and we now learn this fire is much worse than what the media and what was previously being reported by the Trump regime. Remember when we reported it back on March 12th and we go, this sounds pretty, pretty bad. There was like a fire that took place in the laundry room. That's what they're saying. They're saying it wasn't like enemy fire. It just happened in the laundry room. But these things tend to happen if you have an aircraft carrier out there for so long. But the result of it is lots of people's clothing was burned.
5:18Ben Meiselas:The place where the sailors sleep would burn. They have to like sleep on the floor right now. They don't have change of clothes. The logistics is all screwed up. Morale, is that like an all-time low? Do you remember when we were reporting on the morale of the Navy members who were on this ship? Like two months ago, three months ago, we were giving you reports on the morale. We're seeing that take place right now. And I think morale is particularly low as well within the Trump regime as Donald Trump just keeps on lying about this war. No one even understands what the hell he's saying. He's not speaking like in sentences at all.
5:57Ben Meiselas:He's just like ranting and raving like a absolute lunatic. Let me just show you some of the visuals here again. You'll see these ballistic missile attacks from Iran heading toward the UAE. You'll see over a dozen interceptor missiles earlier from the skies of Dubai trying to strike some of these drones and some of these cluster munitions that are being used by Iran. Take a look right here over central Israel. You'll see munitions from a cluster warhead on Iranian medium range ballistic missiles. You'll see over here more cluster munitions raining down following these interceptors being used by Israel.
6:43Ben Meiselas:And Donald Trump just goes statehood, statehood. I mean, it looks like an absolute lunatic. Meanwhile, you have the foreign minister of Iran, foreign minister Aragji, posting articles from the United States media or just direct resignation letters from Trump top officials who are resigning over this war. I mean, you have Foreign Minister Arachi of Iran posting the resignation letter of ultra-MAGA right-wing extremist Joseph Kent, a gold star husband. His wife was killed in Syria from a terrorist attack in 2019. He was the director of National Counterterrorism Center, meaning he was Tulsi Gabbard's number two.
7:30Ben Meiselas:And he said, this is an unlawful war. We were pulled into this war in Iran because of Netanyahu and Israel. I want no part of it. I am resigning. Then the Trump regime attacked Kent and said he's a leaker. He's a bad guy. He's disloyal. This guy's as ultra mega as you get. One of the other articles that Foreign Minister Aragchi is posting is this article about Britain's national security advisor, Jonathan Powell. and Powell has been telling people that he attended the final United States-Iran nuclear talks in Geneva in late February, and he judged Tehran's proposal at that Friday mediation that was presiding over by the foreign minister of Oman.
8:15Ben Meiselas:He described it as significant enough to prevent a rush to war. This is what sources are telling The Guardian. He believed that progress had been made and described the offer by Iran as surprising. Like, surprisingly, lots of momentum was being made on the negotiations. And so why would we rush into war? And again, this is Britain's national security advisor, Jonathan Powell, saying this. We know the foreign minister of Oman has been saying this. And one of the things that Britain's national security advisor was concerned about and why he had to be in the room and why he brought others is that they just thought that basically Kushner, who was there on the American America's behalf and Whitcoff were basically just doing whatever Netanyahu wanted.
9:07Ben Meiselas:And so they were there just to try to monitor what was happening. And they're saying we were shocked that why would the Trump regime rush into this war unless they were influenced and pushed into it by Netanyahu? I mean, that's what the UK is Remember yesterday as Donald Trump had the Taoiseach from Ireland, like their prime minister, and Donald Trump kept on saying he was being asked questions by the Irish press about the president of Ireland, female president, who says that what Donald Trump's been doing in Iran and elsewhere, war crimes, unlawful. Donald Trump's I don't like what he's saying.
9:42Ben Meiselas:Donald Trump doesn't realize that the president of Ireland is a female. And then Donald Trump would just like attack here. Starmer, the prime minister of the UK. He's no Winston Churchill. He'd attack French president Emmanuel Macron because Macron's like we didn't start this or we didn't join. He's like, I don't like Macron anyway. We don't need NATO. Why would we want to be part of NATO? I mean, Donald Trump talks about he goes, we don't I go. He goes, I don't need Congress to tell me if I'm going to pull the United States out of NATO. I can just do it here. Watch what he says here is very dangerous.
10:20Ben Meiselas:Here, play this clip. Are you rethinking the United States relationship with NATO possibly getting out? Well, I'm disappointed in that that we spend trillions of dollars on NATO. think of it trillions over the years many trillions of dollars it's one of the reasons we have deficits and we help other countries and when they don't help us i mean it's certainly something that we should think about i don't need congress for that decision as you probably know i can make that decision myself i'd work with some very smart people then later he was referring to this disastrous war in iran as an excursion and the way he described it he's like look we were doing so good, so good.
11:03Ben Meiselas:The Dow is 50 ,000 and everything was going so good. So I just asked Susie Wiles. I said, Susie, I want to do this excursion in Iran. Can I do an excursion? And Susie Wiles, my chief of staff said, yeah, do the excursion. So I did an excursion. That's what this is. You think this is a game, Donald? You think this is a freaking game? There are 13 service members who have died. 200 have been injured. We have one of the biggest oil shocks, no, the biggest oil shock in the history of the world. You're destroying the economy. But nice of you to want an excursion, Donald. Here, play this clip. Doing better.
11:42We had to do a little excursion, if you don't mind. A little excursion to take care of nuclear weaponry in the hands of maniacs. But other than that in a couple of weeks and won't be much longer it's moving along fast we're way ahead of
11:57Ben Meiselas:schedule did you know that mr speaker and then you have benjamin netanyahu telling the people of iran go out and celebrate we're watching go out and celebrate who is directing this like what you truly think that if the iranians see netanyahu that they're going to be like Netanyahu is telling us to celebrate. You think that the Iranians want Trump and Netanyahu as their leaders? What are you doing? If you're going to do propaganda, aren't you going to at least try to think through it a little bit? I mean, this is utterly disastrous and catastrophic and stupid. And the behavior by this Trump regime and Netanyahu is so despicable at every level.
12:46Ben Meiselas:But here's what they're saying. Go out and party, Iran. Go out and party, like celebrate. What are you talking about? Here, play this clip. I'm here with Israel's defense minister, our chief of staff, the head of the Mossad, the chief of air force, our senior commanders. In the past 24 hours, we knocked out two of the terrorist chieftains, the top terrorist chieftains of this tyranny. Our aircraft are hitting the terror operatives on the grounds and the crossroads in the city squares. this is meant to enable the brave people of Iran to celebrate the festival of fire. So celebrate and happy Noroos.
13:25We're watching from above.
13:27Ben Meiselas:As Gregory Brew says, I'm not sure what Israel's strategy is beyond just killing who's ever in charge until the U.S. tells them to stop. You know, because yesterday the Israelis killed Ali Larajani. He's the National Security Council advisor to Iran, one of their top leaders in Iran, who was actually, don't get me wrong, Larajani, bad, bad guy, but in the group of really bad people, he was someone who was viewed as you could talk to, you can negotiate with, was a rational actor who can bring different factions of Iran together. So when you killed Larajani, by the way, one of the things that Israel and the United States were thinking before Trump launched this war against Iran was that Larry Johnny could be the guy who could potentially take over Iran.
14:20Ben Meiselas:That was going to be like their Delce Rodriguez. That was like their idea. So you kill that guy, you kill all of them. All you're doing is bringing in more extreme versions of the people that you're killing. Don't you realize that? And then of course, yesterday, Wall Street Journal reported something we've already been talking about because Iran's been saying it publicly that they're getting military help from Russia, but the Wall Street Journal reported on it. Russia's been providing improved drone technology to Iran in order to aid in their targeting of U.S. forces in the region. Details include, in addition to drone technology, Russia has also been expanding its intel sharing with Iran.
15:01Ben Meiselas:Russia is engaging in military cooperation with Iran. Russia's trying to keep its closest Middle Eastern partner in the fight against the U.S. Russia is providing satellite imagery to Iranian forces. Russia's influence in the Iran war is reportedly growing. Russia making a huge amount of money on this because the price of oil goes up. Trump removed the sanctions against Russian oil. So Russia is making a killing literally and figuratively from the U.S. right now based on Donald Trump's behavior. and Russia wants to keep Russia wants to destroy the United States and also distract everybody away to not focus on Ukraine.
15:41Ben Meiselas:So for Russia, this is the biggest one. This is a gift handed from Donald Trump right now. And just think about it. Russia's out there helping Iran kill Americans and Donald Trump responds by removing sanctions against Russia for Russian oil when no other country in the G7 wanted to do that other than traitorous treasonous Donald Trump. And I call him a traitor and treasonous in my opinion, because in my opinion, you got to call out things with moral clarity. Also, just think about all prices are going up. It's not just the oil that's stuck in the Strait of Hormuz. What about the fertilizer that's stuck there?
16:17Ben Meiselas:What about all the other food and produce that's stuck there? Think about all the prices that are going up right now. U.S. coffee prices surging at a record pace. The average price of ground roast coffee is up to a record$9.46 per round. In February, coffee prices jumped 30.5 % year over year. Let me repeat that stat. In February, coffee prices jumped 30.5 % year over year. How about ground beef? Over the same period, ground beef prices have risen 73 % to$6.74 per pound. Furthermore, steak prices have soared 66%. Overall, the food at home category price level is up 31%, while food away from home is up 36 % as a result of Donald Trump and his despicable regime.
17:16Ben Meiselas:And when Donald Trump's National Economic Advisor was asked about this, he was like, well, you know, we don't think the war is gonna actually hurt the American economy. It's just gonna hurt the people. You're saying it's not going to hurt the American economy. It's going to hurt the people. Oh, so you mean your right wing oligarch billionaires are going to be OK, but the people are the ones getting screwed. That what you mean? Here, play this clip of Kevin Hassett. Let's play it. But the fact is that the U.S. economy is fundamentally sound and that if it were to be extended, it wouldn't really disrupt the U.S.
17:50economy very much at all. It would hurt consumers. And we'd have to think about, you know, if that continued, what we would have to do about that. But that's like really the last of our concerns right now, because we're very confident that this thing is going ahead of schedule.
18:03Ben Meiselas:Look at gas prices right now. First, let's look at diesel. The U.S. diesel average is now above five dollars a gallon for only the second time in history. The U.S. national average price for gasoline surpassed three dollars and 75 cents a gallon for the first time since October 2023. um let's talk about some domestic news for a second though here as well um epstein files i know donald trump wants to distract from it but democrats forced the hand of the mega republicans on the house oversight committee to issue a subpoena to pam bondy and when the house oversight committee republicans wanted bill clinton and hillary clinton to sit for a deposition, and they did.
18:49Ben Meiselas:This backfired so much on the MAGA Republicans because of Bill Clinton and especially Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton is not even in the files, right? If Hillary Clinton is forced to sit for a deposition, clearly Pam Bondi needs to sit for a deposition. So Pam Bondi's been refusing to cooperate with the House Oversight Committee. So even James Comer had to write a letter to Pam Bondi saying, well, now because you're not cooperating, we're subpoenaing you. You're going to have to show up and we're doing an investigation into the improprieties by the Department of Justice. You have even James Comer calling out Pam Bondi.
19:26Ben Meiselas:So we're going to see a hearing April 14, 2026. Pam Bondi is going to appear before the House Oversight Committee to just talk about Epstein. Watch her try to wiggle out of that and to try to escape that, you know, because that's something that we believe that she's going to try to do. And then you have Lindsey Graham saying, we're not going to invade Iran, but we need to send, we need to take over the Karg Island. So how are you not going to, what are you talking about? You're not going to invade Iran, but you need to take the Karg Islands. Let's play it. Any longer than he has to, and I don't think it's going to be much longer.
20:03No, we're not going to invade Iran. There's no reason to. We're going to destroy their ability to hurt us, have a nuclear weapon, build missiles to hit America and terrorize the region. Karg Island, 90 % of their income comes from oil and gas revenue. A hundred percent of that revenue generating capability is on a single island. Mr. President, take Carg Island. This war is over.
20:27Ben Meiselas:All right. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina. And then Lindsey Graham with war footage playing next to him is saying, can you imagine what would happen if Kamala Harris was in office? Can you just imagine what would have happened if Kamala was in office? here play this clue.
