In short

The episode argues MAGA Republicans are collapsing ahead of midterms, with Trump becoming increasingly unpopular. It claims MAGA lawmakers are cutting anti-Trump ads in “Trump plus 15/20” districts, and that Speaker Mike Johnson shut down the House after a contentious leadership meeting where members called each other “traitor.” It cites CNN’s Harry Enten saying Trump’s inflation net approval is a record low (minus 61.61), and claims Pete Hegseth is extremely unpopular (Enten: about minus 25 overall, minus 43 among independents). It also highlights Benny Johnson’s gas-price miss and a Fox poll showing 77% view the economy negatively.

Notable examples

Maria Salazar’s new ad criticizing Trump immigration; Trump’s $1 coin promotion; Navarro attacking Fed pick Kevin Warsh after a unanimous rate hike; and Trump supporters posting about unaffordable gas. Guests mentioned: Harry Enten (CNN), Benny Johnson (media figure), Peter Navarro (economic advisor), Kevin Warsh (Fed pick), Alex Karp (Palantir CEO), Maria Salazar (Congresswoman), plus commentators including Joe Rogan.

0:00Ben Meiselas:Donald Trump is suffering this morning and that suffering will continue to get worse. Humiliation as MAGA Republican Congress members are now cutting ads before the midterms, attacking Donald Trump, realizing they may lose their seats in plus 15, plus 20 Trump districts from 2024 based on how deeply unpopular Donald Trump is and as the MAGA movement is essentially dead. We'll talk more about that. Also, we're learning about how MAGA Mike Johnson held a meeting before recessing Congress. Yet again, he shut down the House of Representatives. And in this meeting with top MAGA Republican Congress members in leadership, they were all at each other's throats.

0:47Ben Meiselas:They were saying, you're an effing traitor. You're an effing traitor. There is a complete collapse right now among the MAGA Republicans in Congress. Let me show you what's going on though right now as well you had harry enton on cnn saying congrats donald trump you always wanted to break records guess what you broke another record this morning here play this clip i want to congratulate donald trump the president united states because he is breaking records he is literally breaking records yesterday the marquette university law school poll came out and take a look here trump's worst net approval rating on inflation minus 61.61 points underwater that is the worst that donald trump has ever polled on inflation.

1:30And not only is it the worst that Donald Trump has ever polled on inflation, it is the worst that any president ever has polled on inflation. This is literally the worst net approval rating on inflation for any president. It is truly record-breaking. Congratulations, President Trump. You're breaking records, but perhaps not in the way that you wished to. Worse than Carter? Worse than Jimmy Carter. Worse than Reagan. Worse than Reagan. Worse than Biden. Worse than Biden. He is worse than all three of those, and he is worse than any poll he has ever had himself with this minus 61 points, literally the worst of all.

2:04Ben Meiselas:And then Harry Enten says one of the other reasons why these MAGA Republicans wanted to shut down Congress is that there was a huge movement, even within Congress, to impeach Pete Hegseth. The American people want Pete Hegseth, that vile war criminal. Americans want that sicko gone. In fact, we want him tried at The Hague, actually because what a sick, vile human being that is. Here's what Harry Enten has to say about how Americans view Hegseth. Let's play this clip. Where is Hegseth's popularity right now? You know, we start off the title slide asking who hates Hegseth, and basically everyone, if you're in the American public.

2:43No wonder, no wonder the speaker sent everybody home because just take a look here. Okay, Hegseth's net approval, you know, back before the Iran war started, back in January of 2026, right? It was minus nine points. You think that's so. Look at this. He's more than twice as unpopular, nearly three times as unpopular now in his net approval rating. Minus 25 points. How about among independents? You think that minus nine is low? How about minus 20 before the war started? You think that minus 20 is low? How about minus 43 points among independents now? No wonder, no wonder, no wonder Speaker Johnson did not want his Republicans representatives to actually have to vote on this, because if they voted with the president, they'd be voting against the American public because the bottom line is Pete Hegseth is hated by basically.

3:28Ben Meiselas:Now, what about Benny Johnson? Ultra MAGA propagandist. When you lose Benny Johnson, Donald, look at what happened this morning with Benny Johnson play this clip. Everybody, like, you just can't, I mean, just, it's just the biggest political swing and miss in my lifetime has been not keeping the$2 gas that we had in December. and January. And that's exactly where we, that's where we were. That's where the market, where the market was headed was to most people paying less than$2 a gallon for gas. It was, uh, the nationwide average was$2 exactly on, I just checked it this morning on December 31st, 2025.

4:11That was the nationwide average for a gallon of gasoline. Yep.

4:15Ben Meiselas:And so it's more from Benny Johnson right here says, you know, gas prices are so bad. He says that he thinks that AOC is going to be the next president. This is Benny Johnson, MAGA propagandist through and through. Here's what he had to say this morning. Play this clip. I think they are. I mean, I think they are. I think it's built different. I think they're going to run AOC. And I think that's where I think that's going to be the battle. It's going to be AOC versus Vance. And AOC will be president if we can't get prices under control and start delivering wins domestically for people. I think what a what a what a crazy timeline.

4:47Yeah, I mean.

4:48Ben Meiselas:What about state regime media? Fox this morning, how do voters rank the economy right now? Here play this clip. And the rate hike comes as new Fox polls show warning signs for Republicans with 77 % of registered voters ranking the economy negatively and saying Democrats would better handle inflation and higher prices by a 15 point margin. I will say. Meanwhile, of course, you saw what Donald Trump was saying last night at that deranged speech in North Carolina. He said, everything is great. I've kept all of my promises. Here, play this clip. And I've delivered on every single promise I made and far more than the promise.

5:26I made promise.

5:27Ben Meiselas:And then Donald Trump said that he thought that gas prices were actually inexpensive. He said they should be more expensive. Let's play this clip. I have to say, you have a little higher, you have a higher gas. It's a very inexpensive price to pay for what we've done. Remember that it's a little more. It's even if it was, frankly, even if it was a lot more, but that's going to come tumbling down. That's going to be like a rocket ship in reverse. Now, as Donald Trump's approval crashes, as the MAGA movement is done, of course, the grifter going to grift. Donald Trump running ads. Running ads about what?

6:06Ben Meiselas:Interesting that you You might ask that beyond parody Newsmax running ads on behalf of Donald Trump for the Trump $1 coin. So heading into the midterms, Donald Trump's message, buy my$1 coin, my commemorative coin. Here, play this clip. Look closely at history in the making. For the first time in 100 years, a U.S. coin is featuring the portrait of a living president. The United States government is releasing one of the most historic coins of our lifetime, the 2026 semi-quincentennial president Donald J. Trump. One dollar coin. 8:08Ben Meiselas:Thanks to Miracle Made for sponsoring this episode. You also have Donald Trump's top advisors freaking out in front of the White House today. You had Trump's top economic advisor, or one of them, Peter Navarro, trashing the chair of the Federal Reserve, Kevin Warsh. As you know, the Federal Reserve board on a 12 to nothing vote, hiked interest rates by 25 basis points to the range of 3.75 to 4%. Interesting, right? Because Donald Trump was threatening to criminally prosecute Jerome Powell, who, by the way, Trump appointed during his first term. Biden reappointed Jerome Powell because Powell would not lower interest rates.

8:52Ben Meiselas:He kept him steady. Donald Trump says he's too late, Powell. He needs to be criminally prosecuted. OK, so Donald Trump then picked an interest rate hawk in Kevin Walsh, a hawk meaning Walsh believes in kind of stricter, tighter controls when it comes to raising interest rates. So Hock, he's an interest rate hawk. And what did Warsh do? Well, the board unanimously raised the interest rate, not even lower them, raised them. Right. So here's what Peter Navarro had to say. And he was on the Steve Bannon show trashing Trump's Federal Reserve chair pick. Here, play this clip. Why do you think I'm surprised?

9:32I was not a worse guy. I'm not a worse guy. I see him not as MAGA. I see him, let's call him Mara or Masa, like make recessions great again, you know, it's like, or make stagflation great again. I just look, he sold himself and now he's selling us out. I think it's pretty much as simple as that. And I don't know. Here's what I don't know. I don't know whether it's a gap in his training or whether he's just one of them. And this is political. I fear it's political. I mean, if he understood this issue, he would have gone against the grain of what is a very politicized anti-Trump Fed and tried to lead on the issue and maybe lose, but at least try to lead.

10:25He did not do that. What was it? Was it so?

10:29Ben Meiselas:Joe Rogan's like, yeah, you know, these people who are still MAGA are like sickos. Here's what he has to say. Play this clip. You know, Trump supporters are fucking nuts, man. They're rabid. He represents something other than just a person to them. Oh, it's Christ. Yeah. Well, he represents something, a leader that they wish they had, you know? Yeah. Which is a real problem in our society in general with leaders. We look to them as if there's something different than every other person that's ever been a leader before. Like, this is the one. This is the one that's going to save us. You know, you even had a weird appearance from Alex Karp, the CEO of Palantir, this morning.

11:09Ben Meiselas:And he was trying to justify why he and Donald Trump think that there should be no regulations when it comes to AI. And he's like, what, what? It's like, you're going to try to tell me that I need to tell me not to wear a condom or something. I don't even know what he's talking about. Let's listen to what he's saying. How can they tell me not to wear a condom? I just, you just, okay, here, this is what, this is what they're saying. Got it. Here, play. I can't repeat what the customers are saying, but they're basically like one to give you the one that was the least vulgar. It's like, but how can they tell me not to wear a condom?

11:45Like this is and that's the least vulgar person that we deal with. They're like livid. And so they're livid. So that's. Wait, can you just like translate what you're talking about?

11:55Ben Meiselas:Right now you have MAGA Republican Congresswoman Maria Salazar from Florida, South Florida. Her district is 75 % Hispanic. It was a district that Trump carried by plus 15 in the 2024 election. She's now cutting ads, looking straight at the camera and saying, Donald Trump, your immigration policies have been horrible. They've been bad. Okay, really, Congresswoman Salazar? You aided and abetted this. You told your community, I remember watching it, You told your community that Trump supports your dignity act. You said the dignity act and that Trump said he promised you this is what you assured your constituents that Trump would never go after immigrants who were not criminals, who were not violent criminals.

12:45Ben Meiselas:In fact, what you promised Trump supported a pathway to citizenship. That was part of your dignity act. That's what you told your constituents, where you have a heavily Cuban, Venezuelan constituent base and also people from other countries in South America, Central America. But this is in Caribbean. Here's the ad that she just released. Play this clip. As a president, some of your immigration enforcement efforts have gone too far. In July, 50 percent of the 50 ,000 people that were detained had no criminal record. Be careful what your advisors are telling you about immigration policy. The same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today.

13:25You can be for immigration when Lincoln was for slavery and Reagan was for communism. I'm not talking about giving them amnesty. I'm talking about giving them a dignified life in this promised land. I am Maria Elvira Salazar and I approve this message.

13:38Ben Meiselas:But of course, at the Midas Touch Network, we have receipts from November 2024. This was Congresswoman Salazar. Here's what she said before the Trump regime was officially inaugurated. Here is her promise. You can all hear it for yourself. Let's play it. If I may, I know our time here is limited. I'm asking about the potential deportation of hundreds of thousands of people from your community. The deportation is going to be among those criminals who are the gang members, the guttaways, the trendy Aragua. I am sure. Not all 200 ,000 undocumented in your community. Is that what you're saying? I am sure that we're not, that the Trump administration is not going to be targeting those people who have been here for more than five years that have American kids, that don't have criminal records, that have been working in the economy and paying taxes.

14:25I am sure that they're going to hone in on the criminals who arrived less than four years ago because I wrote the Dignity Act. And I am the first one who understands that you have to give some type of dignity to those who have been here for more than five years. people who have roots in the country, not people who are coming. Okay.

14:43Ben Meiselas:We're seeing lots of videos like this. Three-time Trump voters are posting videos while they're filling up their vehicles with either gas or diesel that they can't afford. Play this clip right here. I voted for you three times, Trump. Voted for you three times.

15:10Ben Meiselas:This is the thanks I get.

15:16Ben Meiselas:Thanks, Trump.

15:39Ben Meiselas:sanctions on countries that do business with Russia. It has yet to actually been implemented by Donald Trump. I don't think it's been signed yet either, at least as of this recording, that is. And China made it very clear, this will not deter us in any way. We will continue to do business with Russia. We will continue to do business with Iran. Any threat of secondary, bring it on, is basically what China is saying. The last time you threatened us, we cut off your rare earths, And then you back down right away. Donald Trump, you are begging Xi Jinping to show up at the White House. We are not afraid of this at all.

16:17Ben Meiselas:We dare you to try to impose secondary sanctions on China, whether it's our dealings with Iran or our dealings with Russia or our dealings with anybody. We don't support unilateral sanctions by countries. That's what China's message was this morning. Also, satellite imagery this morning showing the Houthis have dug roughly 20 kilometers of trenches in the mountains around Bab el-Mandab between September 8th and September 16th. The trenches serve a dual purpose, defending against any Saudi-backed counteroffensive to retake the East Coast and providing observation posts overlooking the shipping channels.

16:57Ben Meiselas:So the trenches allow the Houthis on Sarala to target pretty easily ships that are going through the Bab El Mondab Strip in the Red Sea. Finally, good news to report as well.
