In short
“Last Call” final NFL-season predictions exercise (not Super Bowl/division winners). They debate matchups, surprise teams, a disgruntled player, best coordinator hire, first-time defensive All-Pro, biggest offensive/defensive DVOA disparity, and which teams are most vulnerable to offensive-line issues.
Guests
Nate Tice (football analyst; co-host/guest on Minikime show; also runs “Football 301”). Trevor (host, “Minikime show featuring Lenny,” though the transcript centers on Trevor and Nate).
Key claims and notable examples
- Best AFC team to beat the Rams: Trevor picks Denver Broncos (elite OL/run defense + pass rush speed). Nate picks Baltimore Ravens (improved pass rush with Trey Hendrickson; Lamar Jackson extends plays; scheme by Jesse Minter).
- Team most likely to “make us look dumb”: Trevor/others discuss Chargers (bullish on Herbert/McDaniel; warning signs about OL/defense drop). Nate flips to Kansas City Chiefs (regression: missed FGs/close games; defense improving; young DBs like Noel Williams).
- A.J. Brown Award (disgruntled by Week 10): Nate picks Malik Neighbors (injury recovery + needs targets/chemistry with Jackson Dart).
- Coordinator to be hired next offseason: Clayton Adams (Cowboys) and Chris Shula (Rams) discussed; also Anthony Campanile and Christian Parker mentioned.
- First-time defensive All-Pro: Nate picks Abdel Carter; Trevor picks Kobe Turner (Rams).
- Biggest offensive/defensive DVOA disparity: Packers/Bears/Lions (debate centers on Bears defense questions without Micah Parsons).
- Offensive line most likely to undo a team: Chargers discussed; then Texans and Raiders are considered (Raider interior/guard questions; Texans “better on paper” but Ed Ingram concern).

0:33Nate Tice:Welcome back to the Minikime show featuring Lenny. The NFL season is so close. It is tomorrow, which is so weird. It's on a Wednesday that it starts. Don't know how I feel about that, but that's neither here nor there. Actually, that is important because a bit of housekeeping. My first season preview, week preview, week one preview, of course, is going to come out tomorrow morning, Wednesday, because of the NFL schedule, Dominique Foxworth is going to be joining me. And as part of that, there's been a little bit of reshuffling. Dominique is now going to be joining me every other week for game previews.
1:14Nate Tice:And Ben Solak is going to be joining me on Tuesdays to recap. So for MeNakime Show, longtime listeners, a little bit of reshuffling. But that's not Ben Solak here today. that's nate tice who's probably never been confused with ben so lack in his life hey no welcome back to the show buddy thanks thanks for having me yeah so you're just talking to all my friends you're like ben is on this so now i know where my friends are i see on our show i'm just like no we're staying tuesday and thursday i'll recap that wednesday game on the thursday show no no you ain't changing this sorry you're going to australia but you ain't changing my schedule i'm not doing that to me no great to be here good to see you the the days are like extremely confusing to me and i've already screwed it up like 20 times but we will be previewing patriots seahawks as someone that's understanding of thursday football and monday football and friday football and i'm totally fine with that wednesdays is a bridge too far that's like no no no no no you're not screwing up my middle week like that is tuesdays and wednesdays you just can't touch you're not maction uh the podcast by the way that uh natalie is football 301 which you You guys should definitely check out.
2:22Nate Tice:Excellent show that, as he said, comes out twice a week. Today, we are not here to recap, obviously, because football has not begun. We are here to do an exercise I'm calling Last Call. Final predictions for the NFL season. Now, this is not like which team is going to win the AFC Championship, which team is going to win the Super Bowl or whatnot, and the division winners you guys all know from listening to my preview pods. These are categories, some of which I arbitrarily have come up with, some of which were submitted to me on Blue Sky. I really enjoy doing this. I feel like some of these have been really fun to puzzle through, Nate.
2:59Nate Tice:And I'm excited to hear what you have to say. I am too. I like this. Yeah, I have predicted awards, win totals, everything. Like a superlative show kind of like this or a fill in the blanks as you put it. This was much more entertaining for my brain right now until we get games to react to. But for now, this was a nice little segment idea. So I appreciate you sending this to me. So the first one is sort of a proxy for who might be in the Super Bowl. But I actually am thinking about it from a matchup perspective. The question I said, so it's fill in the blanks. I sent you a bunch of categories with a blank.
3:37Nate Tice:You may have to fill in the blanks. The one I sent you that I want to start with was the blank, are the AFC team best positioned to take down the LA Rams? Now, I said AFC team because I assume we agree the NFC team is the Seahawks, and that's right. And maybe, you know, I have one other team that I'm playing footsie with. Yeah, the Cowboys. But I can't go on every freaking show like Joe DiMaggio for 56 straight shows and talk about the Cowboys. So I think it's the Seahawks just because I think, you know, this TLDR, CX defense, CX defense. I think the Seahawks offense is actually one of the few offenses uniquely equipped to potentially attack LA.
4:20Nate Tice:So Seattle's my answer. So Seahawks fans, don't get mad at the wording of this question. The reason I wanted to make it about the AFC is because the AFC is like a log jam. Like the NFC is super top heavy and the AFC has like five or six teams that are kind of all clumped together for me. So we didn't discuss beforehand what our answers are. I want to just I'll just start first on this one. So first I narrowed it down to a few teams. I considered the Bills, the Ravens, the Patriots, the Broncos, the Texans. Those were the teams. What theme and then. Same for me. Yeah. Okay. So then I narrowed it down further.
5:01Nate Tice:And my thought process was this, Nate. I was thinking about whether the Rams have any weaknesses. and actually I thought is this team is is the team that I want to pick going to be one that is most likely to win in a shootout Buffalo maybe or would it be a team where I actually think the defense might be positioned to take advantage of brands weaknesses and I actually felt myself leaning that way because crazily enough when I think about this Rams team and what it might take for them to lose or fall apart or whatever I think the defense is actually deeper and the offense is the side of the ball where I think the right team might be better equipped to stop them.
5:46Nate Tice:We'll get into why. So then I narrowed it down further to the Broncos and the Texans. This is my process. I'm walking you through my process. And this was tough because I think the Texans defense, I has the best in the NFL. Texans, by the way, played the Rams last year. It was 14-9. Staff was good. I couldn't get there with the Texans because the Texans offensive line against the Rams defensive line whereas the Broncos have an elite offensive line they might have a better run game I'm more confident in that run game than Houston and they have the sort of speed at pass rush that I think could give this Rams team problems in addition to crucially a very good run defense so ultimately that's a very long-winded way of answering I chose the Denver Broncos what team did you choose i came okay somewhere kind of short list uh my process too i would step through mine was was getting to i usually the great equalizer in the playoffs are a run game a pass rush and a qb like those in some way shape or form like and that's usually gonna kind of bear out so i'm looking kind of like all right texans was my first kind of like that was what i was leaning towards the whole time and then i was really thinking i was like but that offense is very neutral, I guess is the best way to put it.
7:02Very just classic, you know, very staples, NFL stuff. So I was really thinking like in a playoff with that kind of pass rush the Rams might have, wouldn't I want a quarterback that can create some stuff and pull stuff out of his ass? I was going to say out of the hat, but either way. So I went with the Ravens, and it really was. It was – I've gotten more bullish on the Ravens throughout the summer. I liked them at the end of last year, and then they waved away. They maybe didn't have a perfect offseason, but now they've done enough that I'm like, okay, maybe center is my biggest question mark.
7:33But really, I look at everything else. I like the guards, the tackles. I like the pass catchers somewhat. But again, they don't have to live that way. And also, the Declan Doyle, Lamar Jackson kind of marriage, I've really warmed to as time's gone on. We talked about it a little bit, I think. And then I think on defensively, I just really like Jesse Minter. And now, Jesse Minter, their issue was pass rush. and now they have Trey Hendrickson that they can just throw. And I know the scheme can dial up a lot of stuff. And he just has the horses to do it. So, yeah, it's not the perfect team. I still don't know how high I am on the Ravens, but I've gotten higher on them.
8:08And one thing that got the Rams last year was extended passes, was longer dropbacks. That's why they got a pass rush. But, I mean, they had one last year, but even a better pass rush. So extended passes, all right, well, who extends the ball and who can extend those throws? Lamar Jackson. And that's actually where I was even going to dovetail off of you I don't mind the Broncos answer either because the same kind of thinking is because Bo Nix isn't perfect. I would take CJ Stroud if I had to pick one, but Bo Nix can run around and create. And that's Stroud. That's what Stroud's not. That's not his game.
8:37He doesn't want to play that way. So there's kind of that little thinking, too, where it's a little chaos generator at quarterback. Would help that out.
8:43Nate Tice:So the Ravens were tempting to me, and I have some notes on them. And they were kind of the odd man out just because I was like elite pass rush, elite pass rush. I was just, because I was like thinking, Stafford, what would it look like for it to fall apart? Okay, if there's an offensive line issue or if the play under pressure crumbles. But the Ravens to me are potentially, and that's kind of the question, is like the potential, the most balanced team in the ASC. Right? Like I actually, I had them, and I think New England is the only two teams with a top 10 offense and defense of all of the teams that we've mentioned.
9:18Nate Tice:and the Ravens like the ceiling is top five both like you could get there you could absolutely get there I think I was just scared a little off by the hypothetical nature of it to some degree I mean but like you sound great right now in August and I've looked at I'm doing the graphs and going this worked and this work it should work here no I've trust me I that's why maybe I tempered myself in the spring and I think as the summer when I kind of just blew through all the warning signs and even like the interior offensive line or the center oh my god ethan pochich coming off in the killies i think is their center gwyn what what's his name that you you saw that adam shepter's the ravens center ethan pochich no oh jonathan gwynn jovan gwynn jovan gwynn will start at center on sunday versus the cold timing okay adam shepter broke it 36 minutes ago and there's about 300 tweets in reply saying who well exactly right I think he's like 28 29 because their uh Ledford their offensive line coach came from Atlanta and brought him over and that's a classic thing like the line coach brings his backup interior guy to help everybody kind of get their head right but now he's a starter but again that it kind of it's the same answer if it was Pochic or him because it's like yeah I'm not very comfortable with somebody that I'm not sure what their standard is but again I or what their level of play is I should say but I mean there's just so much with how I've seen Lamar play I've talked myself more into the pass catchers and I think the offense just knows how to kind of deal with that and I like Ledford I like the line coach a lot too one thing I'm really interested in you know we last week when I talked about the Aaron Donald signing and the Rams defense and what does it take to go after them one of the things that I brought up was you really want to find ways to get the Rams linebackers on the field because that's their weakness on defense and teams that can credibly threaten with multiple tight ends, which the Rams will match with their linebackers, I think are positioned in the passing game to attack them.
11:12Nate Tice:And Buffalo is a team that could do that, right? Yeah. The Ram Mavens might be. I mean, is like Matthew Hibner really going to be a thing? Yeah, fourth rounder. I know, like you're banking on a fourth round rookie. Yeah, exactly. By the way, I was deciding between him and Marlon Klein in our dynasty league that nobody cares about but us i know i went back well i you know what i would i thought klein looked good in the preseason and i went to draft for a degree i was just like who's gonna get more opportunities the second rounder so i just went with that but in any case i think yeah i took uh seth mcgown he was become my third round pick because just because it's like there's no running backs he's getting he's looked good in preseason let's go no one cares no one cares the bills tout is better i i've been i just i maybe have i'm like so wait and see with the bills maybe i'm really high on leonard and stuff but i can't say again i can't get there with those defense against this rams that's i love leonard but so that's the other thing without the rams though so you know i keep talking about pressure and stafford but like really their secret sauce is and you and i have talked about this a lot that they had the most efficient run game like nfl history and stafford was never in third and lot like they had the shortest distance to go on third down of any team the nfl so again that brings us back to these teams who can actually stopped the Rams run game on early downs.
12:28Nate Tice:I think Denver, you know, Houston, Denver. Yeah. Maybe Baltimore. Yeah. Maybe. I feel better about it this year. They were good second half of last year. I feel better about it. Yeah. I know that that's a great point because that's what kind of gets lost in the wayside with the staffer last year is everything in their offense last year was like, yeah, he was unbelievable, but they didn't live in third down and or third longs, which is a good thing about your offense but he was I think they're like 20th or 22nd and third down conversion rate all that stuff but it was because they're just winning so much on early downs big explosives from Stafford and the run game was like yeah like you mentioned the best run game literally by success rate since the year 2000 as far as I can look back in true media I think they beat the 2004 Chiefs I think was the team that they beat but it's hard to sustain the best run game of the century again all right I I like the Ravens.
13:23Nate Tice:I think the Ravens are the high upside case and the Broncos are the floor case to answer this question. Bills are playing the Rams, by the way, late in the season, and that's going to be just – At Buffalo or at LA? That's a great question. I don't know. That is – Yeah, and it's late in the season. I hope it's in LA. Just give me the fireworks show, right? Right. I actually prefer that too. Yeah, I mean – I know the real football. Real football. We want cold weather. No, I want points. Okay. at no it's in l oh no it's not late in the season it's only week five and it's it it is buff it's in la sorry okay oh my god it's monday night football oh my god juicy juicy oh i know i know there's so many good ones uh okay next question i'll let you go first on this one the team most likely to make us look dumb is okay blank okay this is a team because i'm so high on and I know that I'm waving away all the warning signs I know and I have one of each one low to go high it's the Chargers it's me and the Chargers right now this is a team that made me look so dumb because I'm high on them and I'm waving because I'm just so bullish on Justin Herbert Mike McDaniel all this stuff and I'm like yeah Jesse Minter might be really really good might be a drop off the defensive coordinator Chris O 'Leary yeah the offensive line they're starting a day two center and who knows who at guard doesn't matter who doesn't matter who their number one receiver is no i like the ideas that they did so it's more me the fell for it again award kind of thing with the chargers that everyone wants to say again but maybe that's it it's more just i'm waving away a lot of warning signs because i'm so bullish on what this offense could be and all the like kind of other moves that they made on this team so that's that's that's that version that i can maybe get to the i'm negative on them how do you think it would make you look them like how would that play out exactly oh just the usual the offensive line falls apart justin herbert's pressured all the time they the defense has a little bit of a drop off because it's not mentor and it's really like he was actually doing a lot with this kind of hive mind um so it's more of like the 12th best defense the 14th best defense not a top six seven unit i know that's splitting hairs but it can make that's the difference i think in the afc from eight nine and 12 and five you know 11 and six um because like you mentioned at the top it's so tight uh so i I think that is really just kind of what I'm hung up on as far as negatives.
15:47And maybe I just keep going, oh, Mike McDaniel can wave it away because he didn't Dolphins with the offensive line, but maybe he doesn't here. Maybe they don't have the speed at receiver to kind of mitigate that and create those explosives and stuff. Maybe Amarin Hampton is not what I think he is, which I think he's very good. Yeah. I try to give him every fantasy league I'm in, but maybe he's not that, and maybe he's just fine. And so they don't have Devon Achan, who's a very good back. So it's just those things that I think I'm translating a lot, maybe just don't work out that way.
16:17Nate Tice:I think the most, I mean, I'm relatively high on the charges as well. I just think, Dominique and I always talk about this, when we get into the playoffs, we look dumb when we discount offensive lines. One of the things where we're consistently made to look dumb is when we overestimate the prospect of teams with bad offensive lines or extreme offensive line injuries. and I look at the Chargers and I keep waving my hand and saying, Mike McDaniel will cover up that. Mike McDaniel, we saw him do that. And I think that's where it would go wrong for me in terms of like making how I would feel dumb.
16:54Nate Tice:Like, Mina, you know offensive line is so important and you wrote it off again. Not just center, the interior. Yes. The entire interior. Three of the five spots are – we're kind of cheating ahead of one of the other categories. But OK, so I went with the one that would make us look dumb. The team that would make us look dumb by being successful was my interpretation. And this isn't even a team that I'm like low on, but it's not a team that I and many people, I think, are predicting to win the AFC West right now. What if the Kansas City Chiefs are just the Kansas City Chiefs again? Yes. OK. Right.
17:30So like it is yours.
17:32Nate Tice:OK. So first of all, every nerd regression sign is pointing towards positive regression this year. The close games, the missed field goals, all of it suggests that they were historically unlucky last year. On top of that, the offense for all of the like, you know, hand wringing and oh my God, they're running it back. They were 12th in offensive DBA. They were still fine and everything. Yeah, I know. And they would have a better run game this season. And then the final piece of that for me is I'm starting to talk myself into this defense potentially being good. And it was basically like kind of average-ish to a little below that last year.
18:11Nate Tice:So maybe this is a little bit too much preseason copium and watching some of these young players. But I was thinking through, I was just looking at the depth chart. And first of all, last year, yes, pass pressure wasn't good enough. The blitz weren't hitting. But Karloftis was hurt like half of the year, notably. they added our mason thomas who looks like a freaking stud in the preseason uh other signs like kairos tonga is like one of quietly one of my favorite signs at at nose and then the secondary is very very young but they were bad last year and i think they're gonna be there's a chance they're better this season you have um to my connor no longer mercifully playing slot Yeah, exactly.
18:52Nate Tice:Manchester Lane looks awesome as a draft pick I loved. And then Noel Williams, I texted you about this. I went down like a little bit of a rabbit hole watching Noel Williams. The reason I, because I was looking at some of their numbers and his numbers last year were awesome. Like he led all the Chiefs corners in EPA per target success rate. Only 20 % of his targets were open, which was ranked very high in the NFL. He had only 3.3 average coverage in yards per separation and coverage was second league wide to Sauce Gardner. who gave up big plays. And then I went back and watched, and he's really good.
19:26Nate Tice:I think it was good, and it's a big part of the reason why they were comfortable moving on from McDuffie. But some of his man coverage reps are extremely impressive. So, you know, nickel, we'll see about that. But on the whole, I like regression. Offense was actually good, and the defense could be better. And oh, by the way, Patrick Mahomes is your quarterback. how is that not a playoff team and yeah i just feel like that they can a wide open wide open conference where it's like yes i mean none of these teams should be super favored over another i don't think like it's no that's i i even had my top 10 defenses doc open when i did that show and i see all my chiefs notes because i you could see that was at the beginning of summer so it was the end of july and i'm like beginning of summer middle of summer beginning of summer for me but I'm really just looking at it and I, it all starts with their DB.
20:20So everything you laid out is why I got high on them. I really liked the other guy, Chris Roland Wallace who's played slot in on the back half. So just, that's it. Like they don't have a ton of weaknesses on their team. Even if we are kind of waving away, maybe some of the players like, Oh, he's fine. Like Nick Bolton's fine. There's still Chris Jones. You mentioned Tonga. That's a great shout. Peter Woods is a nice wild card, but if you want to outplay your expectations, wild cards hit and Peter Woods could be that that's how he was as a college player too but Delane all these guys so I'm right there with you Josh Simmons is a little iffy right now and I'm trying to they apparently they might not play him and it's going to be Khalil Benson who did look good this preseason but at guard right guard and left tackle very different so so that's that's my other because I was I've been really hyping up the Chiefs offensive line because Simmons looks which is amazing when he's out there.
21:13Nate Tice:That's a good point. That's the only other thing that's kind of like, oh, it stopped me because I've been kind of throwing Chiefs in as like the seven seed and some predictions, but now I'm kind of like going back and forth now. That's a good one. The offensive line is a good point. The Jones thing too, I really hope that they've added enough defensive line depth where they can just play it less. He's just playing too much football right now, and he's not plus against the run anymore, right? So like Tonga, I'm hoping, you know, like just some of these defensive tackles, if they can just like that way, he can be more effective on passing downs and line up on the edge if he wants to.
21:51He's hard to play or build around. Compliment, I should say, because I think a lot of times we see these really disruptive players, especially at D tack or D end or edge or something like that. And we think we just want more of that. We want, oh, we have a gap shooter. Let's get another gap shooter. Look at these guys. You want the dirty work guys next to those guys, the guys that just eat blocks. Then they can go do their fun things like Chris Jones can do. I think they did it. I do. But again, I have to see it play out. But I'm right there with you on this. I think they ate their vegetables on defense this offseason.
22:22I like what they're trying to do.
22:24Nate Tice:Real potential bread feed. All-time error of an offseason if he pulls it off. All right. This one comes from Trivia Lawyer on Blue Sky. Blank is the player most likely to be disgruntled by week 10, a.k.a. the A.J. Brown Award. So I took it to be a receiver. I don't know if you did. I went to receiver right away. Yeah, yeah. Okay. Here's my list, and then you tell me if your guy is on this list. I had a hard bullet number one. Okay. So I'm curious what your list is. Okay. Marvin Harrison Jr., Garrett Wilson, D.K. Metcalf, Jerry Judy, Malik Neighbors, Justin Jefferson, Drake London, Ted Aroa McMillan.
23:10Nate Tice:What's your guy on my list? Neighbors. Neighbors, okay. Hard, number one. Really? Hard. Run first team. Yeah. Jackson Dart figuring it out. Boom bust. They did extend Jameis Winston. Note, note, hint, hint. But no, just really looking at that. No, but Neighbors being frustrated. He's working back from injury. So if he has any frustrations with that, that's just a whole litany of things. But the offense, I think, is going to be run first, run second. And I think Dart as a player is a scrambler and kind of a boom-bust thrower. And Neighbors, if you remember his rookie year, was just peppering him all over the yard.
23:45He's kind of that kind of – he's an awesome player, but he's that kind of receiver. He needs to feel the love, I think, to get going. So that's the one I –
23:54Nate Tice:I guess my only question is, who the hell else are they going to throw to? I know. 40 tight ends Maokai Fields my guy Maokai Fields from Notre Dame he's cool I don't yeah it's the thing about Neighbors and Darts we just have they've literally played so little together we have no idea what that's gonna look like or how it's gonna feel even when I wrote this down I looked up I was like how do they play and I was like oh they barely played together yeah so it was worth mentioning but yeah that's the guy I'm just kind of and just his personality he's a very I think he's just a very emotional guy very like kind of like that too so i think what's um going to be interesting is to i still don't know what this giants offense is going to look like it's matt naggy who you know chiefs west coast spread it out rps spread out greg roman in a consultant role but like run game and line road game coordinator or something yeah yeah but he has a big say on it uh odd coupling of coaching of experienced coaches and so i'm very interested in seeing and this might actually really impact your choice here of neighbors what the offense actually looks like because um yeah greg roman does have a history of uh pissing receivers off so on his own uh separate even about dart guys um all right that wasn't ultimately my choice.
25:20Nate Tice:I mean, this is a little bit of a cop out. I went with Judy, but that's kind of a cop out. He's probably not at this point high profile enough to even. Yeah. I threw in some spicy names there. Did anyone else pique your interest? No, I don't think Jefferson will ever be that because last year he went through the year from hell and the most you got from him was like just a couple like you know, I'm working through it. You know, we're trying to get better, you know, so I don't think Jefferson will ever be that. I don't think Marvin Harrison Jr. I have no idea. I have no read on him. He seemed happy for Michael Wilson after his extension, so it seems that was impossible.
25:53He's going to be a hot trade name, I feel like. I think so, too. I think any team with receiver help, this is not his coaching staff, all that stuff. I'm curious of that fit. There's paths of it working.
26:07Nate Tice:How about DK if Pittman becomes Aaron Rodgers' new friend? I know it won't be Roman Wilson, won't be Aaron Rodgers' new friend or continued friend. Jeez. Poor guy can't get out of a press conference without getting his name mentioned. No, DK's DK. I don't know. That's the thing with Rodgers and everything, too. So I don't know. I don't know if he would get to that high of a point. But I don't know. I think Rodgers will feed him enough. Garrett Wilson was the other one, if things get close. I mean, my choices are just pure football. I don't really go for any personalities. London and Macmillan, probably too young.
26:45Nate Tice:I don't know. I mean, Arizona Jr. is young, too. So actually all these guys are young really neighbors young too. Okay. Let's keep it moving. Blank is the coordinator who everybody will be trying to hire next off season. I mean, my pull. Yeah. Oh, I'm sorry. Oh, sorry. Oh yeah. Okay. McDaniel was the one, like, I was like, all right, if you want to retread, but I was like, all right, the kind of nerd one right now was Clayton Adams, you know, from the Cowboys. I'd throw his name out there as probably my number one. And then my other, probably my number two, just because of continuation of last year, is Nate Sheilhaus from the Rams.
27:23Those are kind of like the two that came to mind. I was trying to find some defensive guys, Chris Shula, but he went through the interview process last year, but I think he could be up there as well. Clayton Adams was kind of my one, stable one.
27:36Nate Tice:I wonder with Shula, because somebody, I was talking to, maybe it was on my pod, I was talking to somebody about, they were like, wow, Chris Shula is going to be a head coach like what a winner and i was like or people look at him and say my uncle could have called the rams defense got a top five which isn't fair to him at all no it's like you might get dinged a little bit for having yeah tell it i don't know i just like last year was a better thing for his resume than this year will be like a better notch on his belt yeah it's some pretty creative stuff i thought he does some really creative stuff that's why i i've been for his first year as a DC, he did some game plan stuff against the Raiders of all teams.

28:17It was stuff I hadn't really seen. I've seen it, but rarely. And it was kind of cool. I was like, all right, Chris Shula. Nice little fastball he threw there. Yeah, I know. But yeah, he's another one. Declan Doyle?
28:29Nate Tice:Okay, so Declan Doyle. So I have two names that are first-time offensive guys. Declan Doyle and Brian Fleury. If either of those offenses just go that look really good. I think that they'll both, especially because with Doyle's case, it's like a transformation scheme-wise. People want a piece of Ben Johnson. If that works, he could be the beneficiary of that, even with the Lamar factor. And then Fleury also, I think, could be another beneficiary of if the Seahawks offense takes another step. I actually like two defensive guys, one of which is Anthony Campanile, the Jags defensive coordinator. I think it's kind of the reverse of Chris Shula, where I think he's going to get a lot of credit if that defense looks good because it's more of a really good player's defense.
29:16Nate Tice:It's not a star's defense like the Jags. They have not really good even strong. It's just like a lot of good, I don't want to diminish them by saying they're like B-plus players, but they have a lot of good players. Hines Allen is a star. Maybe Travis Hunter will be, but there aren't many household names outside of that. So I think he could get a lot of credit if they're as good as I think they could be. And then the other one is a first-time guy. I think Christian Parker is going to get a lot of buzz if this thing turns around. And what a great springboard for him because this was the worst defense in the NFL last year.
29:53Nate Tice:There's only one way to get it. It's crazy. 18th is going to smell sweet. 18th in defensive DVOA, 14th in weighted. he's got all the things the um like resume buzzwords and stylistic ones that everybody wants right now fangio defense simulated pressures creativity in disguise on the back end so i just think i saw him talking to you and he just kind of presents like he just seems like that's why i don't know anything about him just context clues and but everyone raves about him um so but again And I take everything with a grain of salt. I always did that with Brian Schottenheimer. And then Brian Schottenheimer hasn't been a winning record yet, but it's looking good, at least with Schottenheimer.
30:41But yeah, I've kind of been clued in on how people have talked about him. They're very high on him.
30:46Nate Tice:Well, let's stick with defense. This category is one of my favorites to do. Blank is going to be a first-time All-Pro on defense. This was hard. Well, a lot of guys turned out had All-Pros. I was like... That's what stunk. I didn't know Quinny Williams. I thought Quinny Williams only had a second team. He was first team. I was like, ow. I went for a totally out of nowhere player just for fun, just to talk about him a little bit. Walter Nolan of the Cardinals. That's crazy. Yes. They won't. It won't happen. But I just want to highlight him real quick because he has that talent and he probably won't stay healthy this year anyways.
31:20The team won't be in a position for him to get the stats anyways. But I want to say Walter Nolan because this was hard for me because I was like, oh, Cooper, did you? no no no no you got one and i was like looking at linebackers like no so i'm curious what names you came over maybe i can rack my brain a few more but this was a tough one for me hipster picks on my
31:37Nate Tice:end okay good okay so here's some guys who missed that just missed the cut for me i was just writing down defensive names who i thought could get it kamari lassiter uh the great one that's a good one aves uh byron murphy the second another milton williams oh another good one ah that should been my answer that's a great one yeah uh jalen petrie sticking with the i'm basically these are a lot of good defenses carson sweatshirt who was uh your defensive rookie of the year i wrote mike jackson or jc horn uh one of them cravis hunter why not yeah nicky manwari yeah okay uh okay so those were the just missed the cuts i narrowed it down to two I have to choose between them.
32:24Nate Tice:Alright, I'll just choose. Abdel Carter. I'm so high on Abdel Carter. I think he's so good. I've gotten into this. I don't need to rehash it. The advanced metrics love him. When you watch the tape, he should have had so many more sacks than he did. I think that the linebackers are going to protect him and the other undersized pass rushers more and they'll get more opportunities to rush the quarterback. I just think he's got all the tools and I actually was higher on him watching his rookie tape even then going into the draft and that to me is like a glaring green flag like if you come into the nfl and you impress me that much you know as a rookie i just think he's going to be a star my number two guy was a guy who um is i think a pretty good choice as well kobe turner oh yeah yeah rams oh look at this look at the fearsome foursome they got But also, like, he's been so good.
33:17Yeah.
33:18Nate Tice:Fifth and pass rush win last year, fourth most doubled player since coming into the NFL. And now he gets to play on the Monstars. And the nerds have loved him. Film nerds have loved him. Stat nerds have loved him. So now it's the public. And it's not even like, you know, oh, he gets to easy clean up. No, he's already a really, really good guy. Yeah, he's pretty good. Yeah, he's Pro Bowl quality. Yeah. He's like a unique nose, too. Like, that's what's cool about him, too. And when you want to anoint a guy with an award for the first time, tell the story of him. And that's the thing about him. He's a unique version of his position.
33:49Maybe it's the defense helping it, but so that's a, that's a really good one too.
33:53Nate Tice:I think he could be like a crazy stats compiler this year. Yeah. Of your, of your short list, I would say the ones I would steal were Milton Williams and Petrie. I think Petrie is a great shout too. He's cause he's all pro caliber. Petrie's never made a pro ball. Yeah. That one shot. That shocked me. Actually. Now that I looked it up, I thought he, I thought he, for some reason I did. I thought he had was pro ball last year and they had like three pro bars in the DB room, but I'm way off. I do wonder if like, maybe they get a little bit punished because you don't want to give the entire Texans secondary.
34:22Nate Tice:I, you know, sometimes that happens and, and Turner might get that as well. All right. Final question. I'll take a break. I feel like we're going to have the same answer for this one. Cause it's kind of obvious. This comes from Alex Inc 65. The blank are most likely to have the biggest disparity between offensive and defensive DVOA. Say it on three. One, two, three. The Bears. Packers. Wow. So my answer, I go three quarters of the NFC North. I literally wrote Bears, Lions, Packers. Which one? Lions, Bears, Packers. Those are my three. First teams that came to mind, I didn't even think of the other good defense, bad offense.
35:03I didn't even think of that. I was like, nope, these three. Yeah, I went Packers just because I think maybe by the end of the year, They're going to take a little bit to kind of pick back up. But the Bears is a good one, too. But, yeah, either of those.
35:17Nate Tice:I'm curious about the Packers versus the Bears because, first of all, Bears fans, there's two ways to take it. One is I really like your offense. This is about disparity. Because I assume, like, do you think, because the Bears and the Packers' offenses I view is pretty comparable. I might be slightly higher on the Packers, but that is if everybody is healthy. Same tier. Yeah. The Bears defense, I have below the Packers defense. Do you not? It's more just like the no Micah Parsons is really hurting me right now or really doing a lot for me because I don't know what, I don't know what this defense is going to look like truly.
36:00You know, we see some preseason tests. We talked about this, but even just like, all right, so you got Lucas Van Ness, who I do like, but I'm not saying Lucas Van Ness is a 10 sack guy. when they have to stop the run. It's like, okay, who is the, like, Javon Hargrave's a gap shooter. They don't really have that. Linebacker-wise, they're already talking about moving Edge Cooper more onto the line of scrimmage for some funkier looks. So it's just like they have a lot of questions that, yes, I do think there's a chance that it works out. But right now, but also I keep doing that with Micah Parsons in mind.
36:28But until Micah Parsons gets there, I can't get over the top. I just can't. And whether that's fair, I do like a lot of their aspects. And I think Gannon's actually kind of underrated in some ways.
36:36Nate Tice:Yeah. but that I love the back end. Like I like the safeties, but that's the thing. Yeah. The corners and the edge rushers with the bears, with the Packers, I ultimately was a little bit more comfortable with the spine, the defense, Wyatt back, the linebackers, the safeties and the return of Parsons. I don't know what I'm comfortable with, with the spares defense. Like what is, what can you hate? Jalen Johnson. Sweat was okay last year. So that was pretty good. Like what? Maybe the linebackers will be good. Yeah. But TJ Edwards is always hurt, even if I like him. Yep. And like, they were still starting Garrett, Brady Jarrett.
37:14You know, who's playing D tackle for him? Like that's when you can't stop the run early downs. It's really hard to play good defense. And so, yeah, that's the Bears is probably the better answer for this. Is.
37:28Nate Tice:This is a little bit too hot takey right now off coming off this, but like should best fans be mad at Ryan Poles for not. Like this is the team that was in the divisional round of the playoffs. They shouldn't have a defense that is this bad on pay. And I know that they've had injuries, Kobe Bryant, Kyler Gordon. But like you didn't do nothing on the pass. Like I feel like they should be more aggrieved. Yeah. Austin Booker is interesting, but they haven't drafted any defense alignment. Especially given how good this offense is and that it's trending in such an amazing direction. and you're so excited about your young quarterback and finally it's like the nightmare is over like why would you not make more of an effort to be more competitive on the i just i don't know i would be frustrated that's how i felt looking at the depth chart i was just like i know because it's like even like the offense it's like okay yeah we gotta figure out left tackle and everything but man tight ends passing game our run game was explosive last year we got the best year of de andre swift caleb's ascending like our our head coach is like getting all these accolades that deserve it i believe i like i agree with them and then just like the defense is like they can't get out of their own way they had a stretch and uh what's this ibra flus is the last year i think where they actually looked pretty good or the year before that i was like okay here we go here's some talent none of those guys are there anymore it's just a couple of dvs like and then now they have montez sweat um you know like they traded for him that year as well but like austin booker's the only guy you know don't tineman but austin booker's the only young guy that's interesting to me a merging team should have like three or four of those guys where i'm like hey this guy's interesting like the cardinals have more interesting defenders than i think the bears do right now well i put all these heat i was like like okay cowboys and the bangles perennial but like they're obviously the bangles were very aggressive and both these things were very aggressive in upgrading their defenses this year and like both have the potential to be average and you only need to be average with those offenses yep you could say the same about the And they just didn't do it.
39:28Nate Tice:So, all right, take a quick break, come back and we'll get to the offensive line question.

41:05Nate Tice:All right. We might have already answered this one, Nate. The team most likely to be undone by its offensive line is blank. The Chargers. Okay. So let's talk about teams other than the Chargers. Because we already talked about the Chargers. Well, we'll talk about the Chargers in a second. But I'll tell you all the teams that I considered here. uh the texans perennially perennially yeah right the raiders okay some questions about that group yeah um and then i wrote a bunch that i didn't feel were those were the three my final three i also considered the packers okay the lions if things go sideways with the rebuild um i can i throw another one in there yeah i would actually even throw the bears in there if they don't have the health look that they had last year.
41:53Only healthy season of Jonah Jackson. Joe Tooney's another year older. Who's playing left tackle? I know they have options. Garrett Bradbury's a below average player. And Darnell Wright's a star. But Darnell Wright's the only one I feel good about going into this year. And Tooney, but it's, again, one day it won't work with Tooney.
42:10Nate Tice:The offense was so – the line was so dominant in the run game. So it's kind of like a – I don't think either of us think the Bears are going to have a bottom 10. The teams I talked about were like potential bottom 10 ones. But when we're saying like undone, it can mean different things. Like the Rams honestly could fit the bill because that's the one potential weakness that they have. They could be undone from winning the Super Bowl by a single offensive line injury and not having depth there, which was a decision that they made. But yeah, that's a good point. But the three that I mentioned Okay, so the Texans Did another makeover And then they did a mini makeover after their makeover Reshuffling it again So now it's Ursary, Rutledge at guard Evan Brown Who's a veteran center Ed Ingram and Trent Brown After they had brought in Braden Smith He got hurt They ended up moving Rutledge after trying to center Back to guard I think, and I say this as somebody who was very skeptical of the line last year going into the season and really kept throwing cold water on everyone.
43:16Nate Tice:Like, you know, just like, this is not – I know these players. I do think on paper this is going to be a better group. I don't think it's going to be a dominant line, but I think it'll be good enough. We're saying you. Yep, I do. I think even second half of last year, they were above board. It wasn't good. It was slightly below average. um my biggest worry is the guy that they are like they really like is ed ingram because it's like i don't know that most times he was better but he's still not like fine like he's still below to me he's not even like a quality starter so it's like but having said that trent brown has looked good in this kind of offensive system because it's familiar to what he's done and before i love i really like the rutledge pick um whether it was center or guard wherever he plays for them and i I'm higher on nursery than I think others are as a prospect and so far as a pro, but again, not saying amazing pro bowl quality.
44:10I think quality starters more, which you're aiming for with that. So yeah, I think that's just, you have to like keep that in your head until they prove otherwise. I will say it has looked better in the preseason. This talent is better. They have actually some like Jake Andrews, who's been their starters depth now, potentially, you know, like that's, you know, it's nice to have that when the guys don't have to play. so they're they have the better answers to mitigate any issues i think is maybe a better way to put it but um i'm still not like overboard on them i think it's more average at best
44:41Nate Tice:the raiders i feel like i'm the only person who's been apprehensive of this um you know colton miller being healthy and linderbaum is very helpful but the other three positions are major question marks to me i know they look better in the preseason i'm just need to see it from DJ Gley, the right side of that line. It's like, I don't know. It was so bad last year and they ran it back. So I just, that's one or, and to me also it's a big deal because we know that Kubiak wants to run the ball. He wants to run the ball a lot on early downs. And if this line isn't, if they're constantly behind the sticks because of bad runs, this thing could all go haywire.
45:27Nate Tice:Kind of like it did in New Orleans, frankly, frankly when they started losing offensive linemen with kubiak so yep no that's a great point no i they i think it's more they they look so much better in the preseason i'm like yeah it's great now it's fine not great but it's fine now it's fine uh the kubiak offense does help it it's it's hard to evaluate some guys in kubiak offense because of that but that is the that's why you bring in a kubiak shahane guys because they do mitigate some of the issues and stuff so uh no i agree with that i i think i've just been more trying to like excite myself with the raiders I mean, Linder Brom is awesome.
46:01Nate Tice:Colton Miller is a good left tackle. It's kind of slept on last year that he didn't play. About the same as the Chargers. Two out of five. It's interesting, right? Because it's kind of like if you're going to choose two out of five, well, hypothetically, in a Mike McDaniels offense, you would choose the tackles. I think normal football at center and left tackle. Those are the two you want. If I were building a team. like so the center jake slaughter could be good but he's a rookie i think the guard situation is pretty dire i mean maybe awaseka who's gonna play left guard it actually looked okay he was not the one who jumped out to me in the preseason as being the issue bad one right yeah i know it's and two it's like it's not like it's something i haven't seen i've seen justin Herbert with three defensive linemen in his lap, right?
46:52As soon as he hits the back foot of his drop. So I know I'm sure maybe I just want to see, I'm wishing something different, you know, manifesting that it's going to look a little different at some point this year, but no, they're, you're going to have to drop back in those sent and those guards, those interior guys aren't going to have to have bootlegs. They're not going to have the motion. They're going to have to just drop back and eat a one-on-one of protection. And that's the thing. That's what worries you. It's like, yeah, against teams that you have a good game script, you don't have to worry about it.
47:17But once it comes to playoff time, once it comes against the Texans, they're going to just tee off on you over time.
47:25Nate Tice:All right. On to a more positive one. The blank are going to look much better in the second half of the season than the first. I felt like I had a pretty clear one for this. What was your choice? I have two, and one is kind of a continuation. It was the Packers, was the O-line gelling, the Micah Parsons coming back, defense figuring themselves out so second half packers on bullish on first half i'm a little not so much and the other was the raiders um was the was who we just talked about was hey they figured out mendoza's maybe starting um so that was kind of what i looked at for them as the raiders maybe they figured out their defensive personnel and actually another team now i want to hear what yours is before okay so i considered two teams with schematic overhauls i considered the ravens and the Eagles for that reason, just like maybe these offenses will start to gel.
48:18Nate Tice:Even though the Ravens were a little bit more optimistic about that coming together quickly, it is entirely possible that they look better in the second half. But ultimately, I went with this team because of injuries for the most part, and that's the Indianapolis Colts. Yeah, yeah. Think about it. Daniel Jones, further removed from the Achilles. Alec Pierce is starting the end season. Their most important wide receiver is coming off the injury. sauce gardener still coming up and you know he's back but obviously he's probably going to look better the further out and then you've got rookies starting on defense rookie linebacker and in addition to the injuries you've got a lot of youth on that side of the ball so that i thought the other thing is they start the season against the ravens chiefs and texans so um and i was looking at two half the second half of the season dolphins texans giants eagles Titans Bengals Browns so Jack so like I just think this is a team for all the reasons laid out that could be that could look much better in the second half of the season than the first that's a good one yeah I mean just the first two names you mentioned the quarterback and their leading receiver just working back from injuries is a good way to start with that one no and also yeah what's CJ Allen man that's a I had really liked that pick and I like that player and actually was I think this is a good scheme for him too because he's so smart so I'm glad you actually kind of half mentioned him here, CJ Allen, because I want to give him a little shout out.

52:34Nate Tice:I think we're going to have the same answer for this one. Blank is the running back who will usurp his starter. This comes from Old BK on Blue Sky. We're going to have the same answer on this one? I was wondering where you're reaching on this one. Okay. I have two. Well, it's the guy we both love. Jonah Coleman? Yeah. Okay. Jonah Coleman was my number one answer. Yeah, you're right. Okay, good. Jonah Coleman fans. Okay, good. Yeah. By the way, watching the Huskies this weekend, oh, I miss Jonah Coleman. But anyways, that's neither here nor there. First of all, great situation. Shaky running back room.
53:14Nate Tice:The coach loves him already. Won't shut up about him. That's what you got to look when you're looking for. He's a pro. We love him so much. We don't even have to play him in the preseason. I was like, okay, got it, guys. we got it when i know this is part of why aside from my uskies fandom like he was a very pro ready back yes he can pass protect he is he is extremely decisive he doesn't make many mental errors and like yes he's not the most explosive back and he's built a little bit like my three-year-old son but he's he will get you every yard he can i just yes there was a run in the early in the preseason in because he played in the first game.
53:57Nate Tice:And I don't remember. It was a duo run. He spins out of a tackle or something. And just, I don't even remember how much it was for. And then he lowers his shoulder and just plows through like three dudes. And I was just like, Sean Payne is going to freaking love this. Like the division, the tackle breaking ability. I just feel like he's just not surprising to me that he's already in the opposite of the doghouse. That's what Peyton loves in his run game. That's why he drafted freaking Marvin Ingram in the first round. It's like he wants those guys to just pound it. You get exactly what you block you for, maybe a yard or two more.
54:35You can stay on the field in short yards. You can stay on the field in third down pass protection. Those are the backs he loves. And then he likes to sprinkle in the scat backs, the Camaras, and the Darren Sproles of the world. So, no, I'm big on Coleman. I really like him. And like you mentioned, it's like no offense to J.K. Dobbins, who when he was coming out of college I really liked. it's just injuries are his kind of his thing so um but i do like coleman better and harvey if i had to pick one and just a you know a blind taste test harvey was a frustrating watch for me
55:05Nate Tice:he's kind of like the opposite of coleman too coleman's like the substance like harvey's the more electric back bring a little spice you know what my other one was chris rodriguez for yeah i I have him on my list. Okay, because yeah, Basial Tootin. But I think that's more split to me. I think that's going to be like a 40-40-20 with LaQuinn Allen as the third guy. Staying away from that in fantasy. Oh, same. Same. Not touching it. That's how I am. Jaguars receivers, Jaguars running backs. I like you all, but nope. Not touching you in fantasy. Tribion Henderson is a fun one to rile up Patriots fans.
55:45Nate Tice:I'm telling you, y 'all never knew it or Ronda Stevenson. He's not coming up. I mean, I know he fumbles. Pass protection. They love him. Show yardage. He's Mr. Steady Eddie in that situation. Yeah. I told you that's that. He's like the best shotgun runner of the past decade. The best running back out of shotgun. His advanced stats last year are incredible in terms of like rushing guards over expected for carry. All that. Okay. He's a fall. Just like the two guys we talked about, Coleman and Rodriguez. They all fall forward. So it's like, even if it's like they get hit at two, they get that one extra yard for three.
56:19that just adds up over time.
56:21Nate Tice:Everybody knows that teams like the Texans and Broncos will have nasty pass rushes. The front that will take people by surprise is blank. Can you go first? Can you go first? I have a cop-out answer. I have a cop-out answer. Because it's not surprise. I just thought maybe it's not what people are expecting right now. Mine was the Steelers because there's just like – They're D-line. But they're really good, so it's not like a fun one. The little known Steelers. The little known Steelers. Fly is not much better. I went with the Bucks. The Bucks? Okay, that's a good one, though. Yaya Diaby, Ruben Bain.
56:55Nate Tice:So the point I actually want to make, I know a lot of it's like, wow, we're overreacting to one Ruben Bain hump move. Okay, yes. But a couple things about the Bucks. One, Klajicassi barely played last year, if you'll forget that. He was injured. And it looked like before he got injured, he was trending up as a pass rusher. And then the airport. They signed Al-Qurin Muhammad, which I think is like sneaky good depth, who was really productive. Good shout out. But the other thing I want to mention is Yaya Diaby is good. Like he's not a tier one pass rusher for sure. But I think he's definitely got a case for tier two.
57:30Nate Tice:And now you put him with Bane Jr. And suddenly that could, one of them is going to get really unlocked by the presence of the other. So I just felt really like I took a step back and then obviously you have a. So you take a step back, you kind of look at everyone. I'm like, this is actually not just a sneaky upside group. it's a sneaky deep group now and different body i mean it's i don't want to misfit toys but that's perfect for todd bowls like everybody's like oddly shaped and weirdly built you know it's like ones and zeros yeah it's like visual defense yeah vain and i know bane can see i mean vay all next to each other and then you get a sean robinson who's like the ideal d lineman um but then even i'm way bigger on our i always say this word i gotta find a new word bullish on on the bucks overall and the defense though as i kind of just marinated on it all like because even linebacker wise i like what they did like yeah they i don't know i i'm way higher on the box than i was even trotter looks good trotter i know anzalone is just a professional linebacker you know which is better than what they had no offense to david who's amazing but it was jover old levante david it's not that yeah so that's a good one that's better than mine the other one i had just because because i already mentioned him was walter nolan was the cardinals having a sneaky josh sweat he was good walter nolan zayvon collins is not a bad top three baron browning throwing him in there roy my guy roy lopez he doesn't rush the passer but uh darius robinson's whatever but they actually have some juice that i don't think people realize right now but again that's more if they're healthy we'll see they might never have a lead but we'll know but that was the other um i considered the chiefs for all the reasons i laid out earlier of defense and the line of the youth also fau looked good in the preseason she's like what if he turns out to be something um and then i threw out a hypothetical which is what if the cowboys have a seahawks like four-man rush where you've got superstar defensive tackles and then you just have waves of like good pass rushers who are good against the run and like that because i think that's the bit that they're trying to do right from the build and it could happen uh but okay the bucks are the one that i like the best um all right moving on got two more the blank are most likely to make a big mid-season trade this from jason h i this was nothing about rosters this was this was just mindset i said the jaguars because I just like that's what they do.
59:59Like I could see them doing a move for somebody, maybe not offense, maybe defense this year, where they just, okay, we got to get a linebacker. We got to get one more defensive line. It was something like that just adds, boosts them, put them over the top because that James Gladstone is aggressive. And I like it. Jacoby Myers, like it's a joke, but it's real. Literally saved their offense last year. And so I think that's not going to stop them now that they're like, hey, we can be aggressive. We can do this. This is ways we can add to the team. So that's more just a nothing looking at circumstances or anything.
1:00:30It's just purely looking at the team mindset.
1:00:33Nate Tice:Honestly, it is team mindset that tends to drive GMs that trade a lot more so than when you look at draft trades. It's just guys who do it a lot. So it's not the wrong way to look at this. I looked at circumstances, though, for my answer. And I went with a team that has its draft picks. I checked to make sure which teams have their draft picks next year. like I forgot like the Packers don't have first because of Micah Parsons yeah not that they would do it anyways but the Chiefs have an extra third by the way but the team that I went with was a team that has a shocking amount of cap space the Detroit Lions so I feel like this that's a team that because of their schedule is going to win a lot of games and because they're good I'm just saying try and think of what is the mindset of this team midseason i could see them being first place in the division the offense is great drew pettings worked out but they recognize the defense isn't actually good enough they're above their kicking out kicking their coverage which they did last year too calvin shepherd's a bright guy maybe brian ranch is coming back you're feeling good, but they know they need another pass rusher, another DB.
1:01:51Nate Tice:And also they know that this might be their shot, right? Like fantasy North is like weird and wide open. So I just, I could see Brad Holmes channeling his inner Ramsdom and saying, YOLO, let's do this. Let's bring in someone on defense. And there's proof he'll trade. I mean, you trade Dave Montgomery for picks and juice scrubs and thank God they traded for juice crugs because kade mays got hurt so uh no i know and also you gotta think if you just went like team weakness of who could trade it's like which positions would get moved the easiest like safety is one of those to me like that i mean last year the chargers and the ravens traded a little yeah great point um so yeah no so that's a i i like that with the lions because it feels like they know this version of their window whatever however you want to put this version of the lines this feels like the last chapter of it and then we'll move on to the new one so um that's a good one too trade for uh densel ward maybe oh densel ward oh browns are trading yeah yeah that's good i know i would call the browns all the time i beg you guys like to trade that's a word makes sense in that defense good fit that's a fun one yeah all right uh last question i fear that we may have the same one oh the quarterback who people are gonna change their tune on after this season is blank.
1:03:13It's like two of my guys. So it's either it's Trevor Lawrence or CJ Stroud. So pick one Trevor. I think it's already happened a little bit. Like it's already starting to like where people are coming up on it, but yeah, that could be a total change tune with him, but I'll say Stroud. So we can talk about two guys Stroud for me, which is because just how the last playoffs ended last year. Totally understand. I also want people to remember that he was playing with, like, backup tight ends and rookie receivers, day two receivers, and Xavier Hutchinson and all that stuff. So Stroud, I'm not saying, oh, this guy's going to be an all-pro this year, but a guy that I think is, oh, yeah, he gets the extension.
1:03:50Oh, he deserves it too. And, like, yeah, the Texans are winning with that defense and the emergence of Stroud, just predicting how narratives go and everything like that, a reemergence of Stroud. So I think how his offseason kind of narratives have gone, like, yeah. like i think even if he just plays how we played last year people just go yeah he's better and it's like he was like the 12th best 14th best quarterback last year that's exactly what he is so
1:04:12Nate Tice:i went with trevor because i just feel more confident in that offense and i don't think people are as like super nuanced about it like i i think even if stroud i i i okay so you know i i I feel the same way you do about Stroud and his circumstances last year. I'm a little bit more skeptical about whether or not those circumstances improve. They're already dealing with some injuries and whatnot. Whereas with Lawrence, even though I don't love the offensive line and I do worry a little bit that the run game isn't going to be above average. We'll see. Everything else is still there. Liam Cohen, the continuity, the pass catchers.
1:04:53Nate Tice:He gets to actually stay in the same offense. You know, I just feel like all the components are there for him. in a way that lends itself to more sustained success. That's a good one. I'm very high on both of these teams, actually, Texans and Jags. I really am on both of them, two of my favorite teams of the AFC and really look at the whole NFL. Because like you mentioned, it feels like Ram Seahawks, then it feels like a gap or at least a half tier between everybody else, at least to me. And I think these two teams are the ones that are exciting, like emerging teams. And really my, I think my favorite off season take I've had was that we'll have a first time MVP this year.
1:05:36And these two, you know, Trevor could be that, you know, if the Jags had that type of year, not saying that's my bet. But, you know, Dak Prescott, like all these types of guys, there's a lot of openness openings for that type of narrative this year.
1:05:50Nate Tice:We actually on my pod, Ben and I picked Burrow as the favorite with Lawrence as the dark horse, who would both be obviously first time. But like, it does. I agree. There's definitely, it feels pretty open right now. I actually, I'm going to pick the Jags as the team that could make me look dumb now because I feel like I've just been gassing them up all. I know. I feel like I was high on them and I'm like, oh God, I got to check myself now. Well, I know because I said Lawrence, I said Campanile. I just feel that they have the potential to be one of the more balanced teams. Like so many of the teams in the NFL right now, when I think about them headed to the season are if one side of the ball can be average the nfc north the texans the cowboys and bangles we'll just like if this is if the defense is average whereas the jags i don't think that's like i know that they're both above average to me the question is just can they both be top 10 right like but the floor on right totally but the floor on both sides of the ball is high yeah yeah and and both coaches have already shown that both coaches meaning liam cohen and campanelli is that both sides of the ball shown that they can adjust that they both have good game plans that they're good on third down which is stuff that matters for playoff time again that's how you make a run is that you have to have these you have to have these coaches that can game plan these one-off game plans are hyper focused playoff football is different than regular season football it's just they're so hyper focused and these both these coaching staffs are both sides of the ball have shown that so like yeah like including the texans here it's like all right the only staff that has it is the texans offense you know so it's like all right is that the tiebreaker you know i trust you i've gone back and forth on this a billion times so yeah i i like the texas now or the the jags now have they have the three they can go 11 personnel and look awesome they could go uh multi-tight ends and they have the guy the horses to do that like Borker or whatever but he actually can block they have that they have a little O-line depth it's not great like O-line that's the thing that's the one thing that worries me but same with the Texans right you know so it's like yeah I think like Anthony Harrison is a better player than for example so I just think that they have better players yeah I think and then like defensively like again like they're not as good as the Texans obviously but they're pretty damn good and I like your point about like the adjustments over the course of the season like I thought Kevney would put together some really good play with game fans for really challenging opponents by the way this was not a defense that like just feasted on inferior competition it was defense where you know yes they had a lot of turnovers but like success rate and the run defense all very good they tackled well and now they add a cornerback who i think has got like unbelievable potential and travis hunter playing full time so oh i'm so jags pilled i don't know that's they they could they could hurt me for sure i'm trying to go to other shows to waver me off the jags and here i come on your show and now it's like we even talked to jordan lewis's breakout year monteric brown all these guys that they have no but that's the thing about travis hunter is now it's like i know really good safety yeah i know i know i know and the travis hunter thing is real though like he's so talented that it's like oh yeah this guy this guy that went number two even if he should have got number two overall as a corner Even in the whole two-way play stuff, he was still talented enough to play, be a top five pick at corner.
1:09:14And it's like, now you just get to focus on that mostly.
1:09:16Nate Tice:Yeah, and Lee Cork, you just bring in on certain passing plans and have fun with him. All right. This is really fun. Thanks, Mina. I don't think I even did a Super Bowl pick. It's the Rams. Boom, there you go. Shocker. Should I just go Cowboys and just have fun with it? What do you really think? Rams. I'm not saying I'm not I'm not one of those they're going to go 17 and 0 and no one can still I don't think that at all I think they'll actually go like 12 and 5 13 and 4 I don't think they'll run it at all but it's just they're just so deep and have so much talent and they have such good coaches and it's like yeah like O-line depth that's a good problem to have but then I get to the Cowboys I'm like running back depth is your issue so you're looking pretty good just keep circling it back I'm trying to think who else Who else would you even throw in there?
1:10:09Like Seahawks too, of course, because they are the ones, I mean, they hold the belt and everything runs through Seattle.
1:10:16Nate Tice:I think while Mike McDonald is the coach in Seattle, they could beat anyone. I wholeheartedly agree. I just think that. I wholeheartedly agree. He's one of those dudes. I actually feel better about their offense than I thought I would. I'm really interested in seeing the run game and what it looks like and what the little tweaks are and stuff. I know. I'm pretty high on their offense. Yeah, I think they'll be up there. AFC wise, I've been saying Broncos just because of how deep and balanced they are. Ravens, I think, have the highest ceiling right now. Yeah. Bills, I want to see the defense week one and then I can adjust.
1:10:55Nate Tice:I just don't. I don't know yet. I know. I've had them have a placeholder this whole offseason, whether that's fair or not. But it's just like, I'll get to you. Like, I'll get to you. I'm like, let me see this. Yep. Let me see it. I'm super high on Jim Leonard. Like, I really am. But it's also, does he have the horses to do what he wants to do? I don't know. So very high on maybe what they could be. But, again, it's ideas and theory right now. All right. I'm sure he'll be back on this show. But I will also hopefully join your show, Football 301. People, check it out wherever you get your podcasts.
1:11:29Nate Tice:It is an excellent program. as I mentioned I will be back later with Dominique Foxworth to preview week one so check back for that thank you as always to my friends at Omaha Productions Kirsten Specky, Owen Saylor, Jack Foster and Tucker Tashin and I'll see you guys in a couple days
