0:00Pat McAfee:Hello beautiful people and welcome back to Lucas Oil Stadium. The Lod House, the host of the NFL Combine for the 39th straight year. This particular sports program begins now. Football! It is amazing but they don't give these out in football do they? This is actually a feel good golden Friday here on this February 27th. We have American hero and legend Jackie Hughes currently in Lucas Oil Stadium. last night played in Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Penguins fans, the great Yenzers, gave him a massive ovation before the game started with a USA chant and everything in between. You know, you never know how that's going to go because Sidney Crosby is our guy.

0:41Pat McAfee:Now, at Big Night Out about a year ago, I asked Sidney Crosby if he wanted to join Team America because of how long he has lived in Pittsburgh. He turned me down. A lot of people felt like that was incredibly disrespectful to ask the question, but is it now? Yeah. Is it now? Who still loves Sid? Thank you for everything you've done for our entire city. We absolutely love you. But Jack Hughes, obviously getting the respect that he earned in the biggest stage that hockey has. 26 million people were watching in a morning game. 5 a.m. Pacific, 8 a.m. Eastern. The entire country was tuned in as the boys on the ice did what nobody thought was possible.

1:19Pat McAfee:Toppled. Stupid. I don't mean – I'm talking sports-wise. I'm not talking about your whole country here. Stupid Canada with an incredible finish from Jock Hughes in overtime. He ate a stick earlier in the game, lost a tooth, looked like a legend, became one immediately as he goes five hole. He is in the building as he travels to St. Louis for his game tomorrow. We're incredibly thankful that he is here. And he came up to the suite and he said, hey, boys, you wanna take some photos of the gold medal? And everybody was like, yeah. And then he said, will you hang on to this? He had to go. I believe he's in the bowels here at a shower.

1:58Pat McAfee:Sure. He's in a shower. I asked Indianapolis Colts and Lucas Oil Stadium and visit Indy people. I said, hey, Jack Hughes. And they were like, Olympic. American hero. We know Jack Hughes. They're like, the teeth guy. I'm like, yeah, he's on his way here. Think he needs a shower. I think they shut down an entire corner of the stadium, which is how it should be. As they should. So we cannot wait to catch up with him. Obviously, that's a special story. And we'll be celebrated and remembered in the sports world forever, what the boys were able to accomplish. they're back in their NHL season. And I think from the conversation I had with him up at the suite, I think that Team USA boys wish they could have had a little longer Sully together.

2:33Pat McAfee:I think that's what they were thinking. But now they're back into the NHL. The American lads that play for Canadian teams are getting treated really well.

2:40Megan Keller:Yeah, they are, aren't they?

2:40Pat McAfee:That's going really well. You guys hate them. Trade them to American teams. Yeah, seriously. Trade them to an American team. Come on and get them in here. We'll take Brady. We'll take Brady. I mean, Hollabuck, he's apologizing for winning. Hey, Hollabuck, don't you apologize. You saw every puck pile. This is a hockey game. And if you guys don't like them up there in Canada, which, listen, you guys, 58 World Championships. Hockey is your thing. We understand that. Curling was your thing as well until curling Matty Hamilton came in there. But it is our sport now. And we would like our Americans that are up there playing in Canada in a league that is obviously incredible and represented very well in the Olympic gold medal.

3:18Pat McAfee:Because there was other leagues represented in that Olympics as well. Two NHL refs. Everybody on the ice was in the NHL. So let's not be trying to bury the boys here. They did something that was special that they've been dreaming about their entire life. We cannot wait to catch up with Jack Hughes. We also have Megan Keller joining us.

3:34Megan Keller:Hell yeah.

3:34Pat McAfee:Megan Keller is currently in Ottawa, I believe, because her team, the Boston Fleet, number one team in the PWHL. Sure. Yeah.

3:42Jack Hughes:Wagon.

3:42Pat McAfee:Dull. The Boston Fleet are a great team. They have a game in Ottawa. I offered, we offered to get her a plane to come here because we thought it would be so incredibly cool to have Megan and Jack next to each other, especially with the amount of respect that they definitely have for each other. Jack's family involved with the women's team. He knows them and he shouted out Megan immediately after scoring the goal. Would have been amazing if we had it. Schedules didn't line up. They are in the middle of their league up in Ottawa. So she will join us via FaceTime. Cannot wait to catch up with her.

4:08Pat McAfee:Daniel Jeremiah moved the sticks. Hell yeah. Man who's commentating the combine will join us here in about five, 10 minutes. Shregs. Shregel. Welcome back. Shregs. Shregs is going to be on the program.

4:19Megan Keller:They're exchanging notes right now.

4:20Pat McAfee:At the end of the first hour, he is taller than you think. Every time we see him in person, it's like, wow, Shrig's kind of tall. Can I wait to catch up with him? And then, yeah, we'll see if there's any surprises. Maybe Matt Patricia, defense coordinator of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Had a combine night last night. I'm going to be honest. Never did this before. Live in Indianapolis. So every time the combine's in town, come down here, do the show, shake some hands, head back home. Obviously. Live here. I'm going to go to bed. No reason to stay downtown. time then a bunch of people around the nfl were like hey would love to have a drink with you if you're going to be in town hey do you want to stop by this hey we're going to be in your town why don't you do this and i decided okay i'm gonna do it and i'll tell you they have a good time here at this thing oh yeah that's what i've heard we had a couple bingos last night i mean i am way too old for that pops i don't know how these people do this at this combine every single year because i think this is more of a marathon type situation and the networking the conversation the information gathering, the questioning.

5:17Pat McAfee:I mean, you're talking about coaches asking assistant coaches what's going on in other places. Scouts talking to other scouts. GMs talking to agents. And all of this is happening in a couple different watering holes around Indianapolis. And I happen to be in a couple of them with me and Gumpy really put on a good performance last night, I must say, for the boys. But it was amazing getting to see everybody and their thoughts on how their team's season went as opposed to what we talked about for their season or something maybe that has been chatted about while you're having a couple of us called beers.

5:44Pat McAfee:It was a fun night. I'm way too old for that shit. I'm going to be hungover probably for a week, which I think, hey, fits in for me wearing this. Fits in right here. So we're thankful that we get to do this. We're lucky to be here. D ends. I'm sorry. DBs in tight ends will be on the field today. Yesterday was extraordinary out of the linebackers. I thought there was a chance that maybe we might get slower. Yep. That's not true at all. We're bigger and faster than ever at the NFL combine. And today should be the same as yesterday. and tomorrow will be the same thing. I think what we saw yesterday is an indicator for what's about to happen.

6:19Pat McAfee:They are fast. They are strong. And it seems like they're more mature than they've ever been. You don't see any, like, bullshit happening because these guys have been millionaires since they're 18 years old. Fascinating development where the league's headed. Nothing but pride in where it is. Let's go to one half of the hammer. Done. Cowboys AP Ton. Ton, yesterday, big day. And you called a couple of the boys to have a big day, and they certainly did.

6:41Megan Keller:Yeah, yesterday was a huge day. It was the fastest average time for both the linebackers and the defensive line that they've ever had. So it was the fastest class of all time so far on the defensive side. We highlighted some of these guys yesterday because they are the big names at the top of the draft, and they absolutely delivered. You have to start with Sonny Stiles, who athletically, when you look at all the athletic scores, when you combine all the events, had possibly the top one or two combined of all time. Okay, you jump 43 1⁄2 inches. He was an incredible basketball player in high school, so that's not surprising.

7:14Megan Keller:Then he runs a 4-4-7. He broad jumps 11-2. He does all the three cone and the 20-yard shuttle first in the group. He was first in literally everything, basically. As a linebacker who's 6 '5", 240, he was unbelievable. His partner in crime at Ohio State, Arvel Reese, who is also 6 '4". Full name. Yes, full name, Arvel Reese. He only did the 40, but that was fine. He ran a 4-4-6, which was unbelievable. So those two being at 6 '5", 6 '4", 240, 250, running those times was unbelievable. A lot of people questioning why Ohio State didn't go back-to-back, win a national championship. David Bailey, who's your top-ranked edge.

7:47Megan Keller:Number one overall pick. Where's the number one overall pick going? The Raiders from IU.

7:52Pat McAfee:Yeah, thank you. I'm just saying. Maybe there's good players on other teams.

7:55Megan Keller:There was just a lot of questions, okay? David Bailey, who's the number one edge rated coming out, he ran unbelievable. 4-5-0 was his time. And then we talked about Jacob Rodriguez, who had all the production, 250 tackles over the last two years, 15 forced turnovers, whether that's interception or forced fumbles the last two years. And everyone was like, OK, well, what's he going to do athletically? He had like one of the top athletic scores. So his fourth him running a four or five jumping 38. Like there's no more questions about this guy either. So a big day for those guys.

8:24Pat McAfee:Three Jack and Daniels with three different groups, all saying Jacob Rodriguez would look very good in our uniform. That was that was like three different. fans feel the same way i think three different everything saying that guy would be great and i think everybody's thinking you know is he going to be second late like third what where for where is jacob rodriguez going to end up at so i think he's become a bell of the ball here early after meeting with him learning about him and seeing him run four six or whatever it was people like okay

8:52Megan Keller:so he'll be able to keep up and up going down to four five seven i believe and then also um his

8:56Pat McAfee:brain yeah he's a football guy and he's a turnover machine i mean so it's like he is potentially I don't want to say the biggest jump yesterday from my conversations around time last night, but I think a lot of people like Jacob Rodriguez a lot. And then whenever they met him and saw him run and do his thing, they're like, we love Jacob Rodriguez after it all. Obviously, Sonny Stiles, Arvel Reese, and Bailey, unbelievable stuff yesterday.

9:20Megan Keller:I was mesmerized by it. A lot of guys had great days yesterday.

9:24Pat McAfee:We were up in his suite, literally just sitting for an hour, just watching this and just so mind-blown by the speed, by the talent, and that's what the Combine is. It's a bunch of little moments that kind of go viral, and that isn't necessarily always just on the field. Let's go to the Toxic Table at Boston Conner, and great to see you, Ty. Good to see you, Ty. We missed the hell out of you, and the city's better whenever you're in it, brother. Now, Conman, the Combine is just a series of viral events. Yes. That is kind I know what it is. Daniel Jeremiah, who will be joining us here in a matter of moments, and Rich Eisen are doing a podcast while people are working out.

10:03Pat McAfee:Okay, they're doing work. And then, boom, a moment comes out of nowhere. This guy's how big? And he ran a what? Boom. And then what is that guy doing up in the suite? Who is he? You won triple platinum yesterday on a tweet. I think it's potentially because you're a patriot and it was about the Jets. But would you like to explain your side of why you thought this was a notable thing to put onto the internet for Coach Aaron Glenn and the Jets?

10:22Jack Hughes:Well, first of all, I think he was in a terrible spot. I mean, we were up there for an hour, And there's a reason we're only up there for an hour, because it is kind of the same thing over and over again. And Aaron Glenn, he got caught. Okay, that's all it was. He took a little tiger snooze, and he had his little hand on his face, and he fell asleep. Now, I don't blame Aaron Glenn at all. It does get a little stagnant up there. Okay, he's far away. There's no moving air. I blame NFL Network for showing him on the TV. They got him bad. And I also blame whoever else is in that room. He needs better moxie.

10:56Jack Hughes:I don't know who's around him. Scouts. Oh, they told him. GMs. They need to be around him, keeping him awake, kind of helping him out. But my whole thing for the Jets is this is great news for the Jets. The Jets are doing stuff they've never done. They're falling asleep up in the booth. I'm now worried. I think Joe Douglas has done it, actually. Eventually. Somebody put a photo up there. But that's GM. Santa Bob might have. I'm assuming Bougie was probably in the front row saying, hey. Daryl Bougie. Bougie, whatever. He should be falling asleep up there. He doesn't need to worry about it. This is my time.

11:27Jack Hughes:And now... Mouji. What are they? Mouji, mouji, mouji. Now what are they going to do?

11:31Pat McAfee:I didn't hear you choking that one out, whatever happened over there, because there was conversation happening. I saw it on a bug.

11:36Jack Hughes:It's coming back to me.

11:37Pat McAfee:I don't know if you heard this yesterday. The governor called the governor of Illinois a mayor yesterday. Incredible. I had to correct him on the fucking...

11:42Pete Schrager:Love that.

11:43Pat McAfee:That was unbelievable. He said, Mayor Pritzker up there, can't get it figured out. It's like, he's a governor. So you bump him up to 26 at least. So I didn't know you were going to disrespect a person's name like that.

11:52Jack Hughes:I honestly you know, lo and behold, they're picking number two overall. I don't know who's in their front office. Sue me. Okay, but another thing too, now I think because of this, hey, they can't get it wrong. They were snoozing through half the things. We were looking at Sonny Stiles. The Jets are going to get Sonny Stiles at two, and that bums me out because I think the Jets might start doing everything right because they're doing everything wrong. They're doing everything that they were supposed to do leading up to this moment. Now, I think maybe they say, hey, let's flip this thing on its head.

12:19Jack Hughes:We don't know what we're doing to begin with. We still stink. We fired our entire coaching staff, even though we hired that coaching staff last year. And now I think Aaron Glenn and the Jets are on to something.

12:30Pat McAfee:I love the fact that your entire angle is they're doing nobody else's most. They're falling asleep while scouting players. This is absolutely a genius move. There's a lot of people saying he was looking at his Microsoft Surface. We will certainly wait for him to kind of give a full breakdown from his perspective. Certainly look like how I have looked before when I potentially dozed off a little bit, especially when you talk about how repetitive everything is now dj band camp is not allowed to play his bangers at all times whenever he gets in here it is a welcomed amount of energy but it is a little stagnant in here and aaron glenn i know you know this because you've been around the league a long time and obviously you're a head coach you just leave yeah yeah all these guys are just leaving a lot of them do like they're just watching it on tv so then you have

13:12Megan Keller:no chance to get caught up or just he probably did the combine on wednesday night what do tigers

13:18Pat McAfee:dream of when they take a little tiger snooze do they dream of mauling zebras or Halle Berry in a Catwoman suit well don't you worry your little tiger head we're about to get you back to Tyson and your cozy tiger bed and then we're gonna find

13:42Jack Hughes:our best friend Doug and then we're gonna give him I'm a best friend. Doug, Doug, Doug, Doug, Doug, Doug, Doug, Doug. Are the words well enough? Amazing. You see, when I started that. Magic John Schneider was here for that. He would have known. Yeah, he would have.

14:02Pat McAfee:When I started that, that's the fun little game. And that's potentially coming fresh off of what I did last night. It's like, let's see if we still got this one. Haven't sang that song in a few years. Classic. But if you do see Aaron Glenn snoozing, it's hard not to think about Tyson's Tiger rolling around. Makes sense. There's a lot of magic happening here, and even though he might have missed one of the 40s, the amount of shit that's taking place in Indianapolis is absurd. A.J. Hawk traveling in from Ohio, college football national champion, Super Bowl champion, Ryder Cup winner. You weren't with us last night.

14:32Pat McAfee:Obviously, I had to travel back home. Brought the boy out here today. I think what I got to experience for the first time, we've always talked about how it all happens, always talked about how it all happens. That is how it all happens. I mean, I've never seen it. walk in, see it happening, and it's like, oh, this is actually. Yeah, like the combined networking situation. Yeah, like, hey, who do you have? Who do we?

14:51Megan Keller:A networking situation you'll never find anywhere else.

14:53Pat McAfee:Yeah, the tampering thing that everybody, because it was happening so much. And then Gadel and the NFL had to put in a legal tampering period, basically, because everybody's like, hey, yeah, we're all in the same city. A couple guys are going to have some drinks, and then all of a sudden there's going to be some talking that happened, and the NFL's like, all right, let's turn it into what it is. this is where the seeds are planted for free agency frenzy. This is where the trades are planted. This is where the extensions are happening. It was really fun last night to see it all, AJ. I wish you were there with us.

15:20Pat McAfee:You were talked about strictly because they came out and said, you're the greatest athlete that has ever been in the NFL Combine. I appreciate the hell out of you, AJ. AJ, you were talked about, I'll let you know, four different teams mentioned seeing this graphic and saying, tell Hawker that they put them over pretty big with this graphic. Sonny Styles had a good day. Okay. Sonny Stiles had a good day. They're saying not the best, obviously, but it was pretty good. A.J. Hawk, the greatest athlete to ever come through the combine. This is a special place. It's a special time. And it does feel as if the next NFL season has officially started.

15:54Jack Hughes:Yeah, I feel like this is kind of the kickoff to the season. Like Connor said the other day, like this is where if you're a terrible team this year, say you were horrible, you have hope. I think everybody has hope right now. And if you're the Seattle Seahawks, you want it all. Like now it's okay. Flush that. That's gone. It's time to move on. Let's turn the page. And, yeah, it's just an exciting time to be around, seeing all the coaches and GMs walk by and just see how excited they are and how much they love football. I wish I would have got a chance to see last night the whole networking. And I know there's some, like, media members, too, that jump in and try to get their little – are they trying to get some information?

16:24Jack Hughes:Their grumpy little paws is all you're going to say.

16:26Pat McAfee:Rap sheet's direct quote and Gumpy and Bruce in the truck were there when he said it. He basically said, all right, I've got to get out of here. I'm going to go walk the streets and hopefully run into his people. That's amazing. He was aimlessly just walking. Old school. Boots on the ground, trying to figure out if he can get any scoops. Now, obviously, Ian Rappaport knows everybody. So if he sees anybody, he's getting pulled.

16:47Jack Hughes:And they're coming to him for scoops, too. They're saying, hey, if you're with the Texans, you're going to go over there and find out what other teams in the division are doing. And hopefully, Rappaport has answers. Buy me a beer.

16:57Pat McAfee:Rappaport. Let's go. Buy me a beer. I'll talk to you. Okay. Probably just like that.

17:02Megan Keller:I think he had 12 Miller Highlights, he said the night before. I hope I'm not out in them there.

17:06Pat McAfee:So last night when he was talking to us for a 40-minute period, he only had two Stellas. Oh, wow. Two. And we were actually watching, you know, because noted booze bag. This is kind of his thing. We're like, wait a minute, this is his drinking Super Bowl. Only had two Stellas.

17:21Pete Schrager:That might be his night off, though.

17:22Pat McAfee:No, it wasn't. He said, I got to. Saving it up. Yeah, for what's about to happen.

17:27Pete Schrager:Going to liquor later in the night. Yeah, yeah.

17:28Pat McAfee:It was 11-ish, 10, 30, 11-ish. Okay, yeah, so early. He was still.

17:32Jack Hughes:And he's just getting going?

17:33Pat McAfee:He was. Then he was. That's where I'm shooting football.

17:35Jack Hughes:And it's a week long of that as well.

17:38Pat McAfee:Your app report actually just broke some news. So if you're going to hoot with the Owls, you've got to be able to soar with the Eagles. He certainly does that. The NFL has informed its clubs in a memo that Souther cap number for 2026 is$301.2 million. Up$22 million. Up and to the right is what the NFL is. And obviously, that's a good thing for players. That's obviously a good thing for the league, especially if you're selling your team like the Seattle Seahawks. Ty Schmidt, anything you've gotten a chance to see about the combine over the last couple days that you think should be talked about or noted?

18:06Pete Schrager:Yeah, I mentioned this to Tony earlier. You know, everyone is on Jacob Rodriguez's tip, and deservedly so. He's an unbelievable player. Carson Schirrar, linebacker from Iowa.

18:16Megan Keller:Good day.

18:17Pete Schrager:Yeah, had an unbelievable day. No one wants to talk about him because he's a white guy from a small town in Iowa. I get it. I get it. We got Jack Cooper. We know him. No, no, no. Yeah, exactly. That's why I figured maybe they'd be talking about it a little bit more. But this year is a little bit, you know, as a Packers fan, it's kind of weird because there isn't that the Packers don't have a first round pick. So I don't want to say I'm less invested because anytime you I think of that, it's just like, well, we got Micah Parsons. So do I need, you know, this guy who maybe in four years, they're not going to, you know, pick up a fifth year option on him anyway.

18:51Pete Schrager:Not necessarily. But I think, you know, as a Big Ten guy, I see how many guys from the SEC are invited. I think there's like maybe 35 to 40 more guys from the SEC got invited than the Big Ten, which is crazy because the Big Ten, everyone knows, is the king of college football.

19:05Pat McAfee:On that note, what are some notable players for today's combine that we should look forward to, Tone?

19:11Megan Keller:Yeah, when you want to talk about notable players for today and you want to talk about the Big Ten, they're all from the Big Ten today.

19:16Pete Schrager:Yeah, it figures.

19:16Megan Keller:No, I mean, there's going to be a lot of SEC guys, a lot of SEC corners today that perform very well. There's an SEC tight end that's going to perform very well today. But when you look at the names that you know, you've probably heard in college football and who are going to perform today. And you're going to be out there and see what they do today. Obviously, it starts with Caleb Downs. He's a unanimous All-American two times. We talked to guys at Bama three years ago when he was a freshman and said this guy is Hall of Fame as soon as he gets off of the bus. He's been unbelievable. He measured this morning somewhere around 5 '11 and a half, six foot, which is really, really good for him.

19:44Megan Keller:I believe he's going to work out like all the other Ohio State guys. And he's going to be a top ten pick. So he's someone to watch today. The freak, the freak maybe of the combine after Sonny Styles, of course. Tight end Kenyon Sadiq, he's been known as a freak for years and years and years.

19:58Pat McAfee:Well, because his name also. Yes, also. You see, Sadiq. Look at him.

20:03Megan Keller:Perfect. You can see it in these. He's a freak. Built like an absolute tank at tight end. He's 6 '3", 250. He verticals 4 '2". I don't know if he's going to run or not, but if he's done, it's going to be really fast. He's a projected first round. And then a guy from Indiana who went to Purdue, was an all-big-ten at Purdue, Dylan Thienemann, who went to Oregon, two-time All-American. He's a projected first-round pick. I know a lot of draft guys think that he's going to run really well today and play really – you saw him fill the alley. He will come up and hit. He will cover. He's a do-it-all safety.

20:32Pat McAfee:Who are some potential show-stealers just like you? Hey, you called us up yesterday. Thank you for doing that. You made me feel smarter.

20:37Megan Keller:Yeah, Kyle Luce did really well yesterday. The linebacker, Kyle Golday, the Cincinnati linebacker, did really well yesterday. The tight end that I mentioned from the SEC, first-team all-SEC, he was an All-American. Eli Stowers, he was a freak in Texas, track guy, jumping guy. He's supposed to run and jump really well today. And then the safety, Emmanuel, I'm sorry, Emmanuel McNail Warren out of Toledo. He just measured this morning at 6 '3". DJ Daniel Jeremiah has said he could be potentially the Nick Eamon warrior of this class. I don't know if he's going to run. He was at Toledo.

21:09Pat McAfee:He's a safety, and he just basically smothered everything.

21:12Megan Keller:Yeah, jumped off the – he will cover. He will come up and hit.

21:14Pat McAfee:He looked like he was playing high school football.

21:16Megan Keller:Yes, bingo. And that's what you want to see from these guys against lower talent. And then Damani Jackson, he's tied the 100-yard record in high school in the 100. He's a corner out of Bama. He was in California in high school, and he tied the record for 100. He's going to run today. He's supposed to run really well.

21:31Pat McAfee:All right. Well, we'll keep an eye out for all these guys. Great hits yesterday. Now, you missed one of your play of the day.

21:38Megan Keller:I got Sonny Stiles. What's that? I got Sonny Stiles.

21:41Pat McAfee:Yeah, and you said you could get Sonny Stiles, and he did. 43.25. 43.25. Yeah, a quarter of an inch.

21:48Megan Keller:And it was his second jump, right, because the things were already out of the way.

21:52Pat McAfee:But you also hit one, right? We also hit one.

21:54Megan Keller:Yeah, we already got the bench. We already got the over 35 and a half or whatever on the bench.

21:57Pat McAfee:All right, so you're currently one and one. We got two more coming, and hopefully you'll hit those. If you're able to bet on those, we hope you will be able to profit. If you're betting on the combine, you should think about maybe looking in the mirror. But also, it does make it a ton. It makes it a lot more exciting. Speaking of exciting, if you turn on the combine over the next 30 hours, okay? Yeah, at least. I don't know how many. It seems like it's forever. A man who will be giving color commentary is a color commentator for the Los Angeles Chargers. He's a podcast host in Move the Sticks.

22:26Pat McAfee:And he's a man who's watched film on every player that has to come through the combine because he has to sound like he knows who they are whenever he is talking about the biggest job interview on earth for them on NFL Network. Ladies and gentlemen, a friend of the program, Dana Jeremiah. Hey, baby, DJ. Hey, baby, DJ.

22:41Jack Hughes:Good fan. DJ. DJ. Oh, okay. Go this way. He's smart. This is the right sport. This is a smart. That's professional. That's the guy who's got a clue. He's a pro.

22:51Pat McAfee:Classic handshake. That's the guy who's got a clue. Yeah, that's yours if you want to. Yep. Okay, you know what you're doing. That was a good play. Yeah. That was the right play. Some people don't know if they're supposed to come to me because I think the natural reaction is this guy's saying a lot of good things about me. Just introduce me. I'm going to go talk to him. But the seat's right next to me. So if you come my way, then you're going to have to come back. Then people go from me and they go, oh, I've got to go see the boys. They go this way, and then it's the worst outcome. Because then they're going, they are there, then here.

23:21Pat McAfee:What you did there with a little bit of a brisk pace. Bang.

23:26Matt Patricia:Respectful of your time. I mean, that's.

23:28Pat McAfee:Yeah, but that was, I think the scouts would say efficient.

23:32Jack Hughes:Yeah, A.J. Hawk in 2006. Yeah, 99. Reminds me a lot of that.

23:36Pat McAfee:Did you see that graphic? What did this thing mean? Because we just, I don't know, I was pretty boozed up when I saw it, and everybody else saw it the same way. he's the greatest athlete in the history of phenomenal i bet his numbing there's what is

23:46Matt Patricia:this what does this mean really good so this is the production score so i believe that takes into account you know numbers on the field in terms of the stats and i think that also incorporates the athleticism this guy was a bad dude man yeah he still is by the way he just can't walk because

24:00Pat McAfee:he has no cartilage in his knees because of the 99 there uh his boy hendrix how old is he 13 13 size 11 shoe he could beat his dad's ass right now because of the cartilage but i tried to he He knows that.

24:12Matt Patricia:Yeah. Do you do that, by the way, with your kids in sports where you ask the parents what size shoe does a kid wear?

24:17Jack Hughes:I never do. I try to make their feet smaller, actually, because I think that's the worst thing. Hey, you see my boy, sixth grade, wears a size 19 shoe.

24:25Matt Patricia:I can remember being a little late, and the parents are like, Johnny's going to play Major League Baseball, and he's going to be there. I'm like, look at his feet. No, he's not. Enjoy this period of life. Everybody else is going to blow right past this guy.

24:36Pat McAfee:That's like dogs with their paws. Yeah, that's how you kind of see with the puppies. Like, oh, those things are horse. Okay, so we've still got a lot of groaning to do. I think his kid's going to be gigantic, from my understanding. And he doesn't do any dancing. He just plays ball. That's right. Yeah, he is a hawk, which we respect and appreciate. But there was a nice reminder to him about who his dad was from all of us because of that 99 score. We don't know who put that together. We would like that to run every single year, please, so we can all be reminded whenever we are burying this guy that we are dealing with an absolute monster.

25:04Pat McAfee:Speaking of monsters, yesterday, day, obviously the linebackers put on a show. I didn't know if because the cyclicality of football, if we were going to get a little slower because it's becoming a little bit more ground and pound. Instead, what happened is we got bigger for sure so we can fill gaps and we can go ahead and take on 12 personnel and 13 personnel, but they're somehow faster as well. Was this expected coming in that yesterday was going to happen the way that it happened, DJ?

25:26Matt Patricia:Yeah, I was told that all three of those top guys in terms of the two Ohio Staters with Reese and Stiles and then with Bailey, all those guys were capable of going in the four fours. I think Bailey ended up four five flat. He was right there with crazy numbers. So it was expected these guys were all going to test like freaks and when you watch them on tape it shows up like there's sometimes where you see guys they're just testers. They're not football players and they're set for this. These guys like you can watch Styles in this building when you guys were here in that Big Ten championship game.

25:55Matt Patricia:He was the best player on the field. He was sideline to sideline making all kinds of plays.

25:58Megan Keller:Fernando Mendoza was playing football.

25:59Matt Patricia:Well you know. I know how you

26:01Pat McAfee:We'll get to that you media people talking about Fernando Mendoza. He's my first overall player. He wanted to do that. Yeah, it better be. I got Dan Orlovsky yesterday starting to dance around with the bullshit.

26:10Matt Patricia:So help me with this.

26:11Pat McAfee:Okay.

26:12Matt Patricia:Orlovsky, he knew I was coming on, so he just texted me. Of course he did. The nicest text. You know, I love you. You're doing great. I'm so proud of you. And I think it's because he doesn't want me to get after him for the Mendoza. I FaceTimed him yesterday. Get after him. Hey, I FaceTimed him. Get after him.

26:25Pat McAfee:He deserves it. The Combine's awesome.

26:27Matt Patricia:Yeah.

26:27Pat McAfee:If you're a football person and an NFL person and we get the access that we are currently getting, like, it is incredible. Because we're just walking around here after the show and it's like, you're shaking hands. Oh, general manager, owner of this team. Oh, my God, good to see you. And we're learning that these people watch our show.

26:41Matt Patricia:Yeah.

26:41Pat McAfee:And I'm learning that. Everybody does. See, we don't know that, though, because we are in Indianapolis in a Thunderdome with no crowd. And then we go home and then we come back. And then it's just kind of like we're kind of talking to ourselves sometimes. So then we get here and it's like the people that are making a lot of decisions are like, hey, we watch or whatever. I'm thinking to myself, well, yeah, this guy would never go out of his way to, like, tell us that he's watching. So this is cool that this is happening. Thank you so much. Don't watch our show. You've got to keep the league good.

27:05Pat McAfee:You know, that whole give and take. By the time I finally get out of this place, back to where the office is basically set up downtown, I turn TVs on. And it's Ty Simpson's better than Fernando Mendoza. And I see Dom Orlovsky like this, okay? And I FaceTimed him immediately. He was on a date with his wife, who we love, who we have big fans of. And I just relentlessly started telling him that I'm sick of his shit. As you should. Like, he is clearly right now doing this all to just draw up shit, you know. And, like, he said, well, I only watched first eight games. I was like, well, then don't talk.

27:36Pat McAfee:Like, if you only watched this amount of games, you didn't watch the biggest games of Fernando Mendoza's career to see how he performed? Did you watch just red zone, third down, and fourth down, the biggest moments, the money downs, and see how he did? I just watched first eight games. When I watch the rest of the games, I'll have a different take. I clearly said that in a thing. I was like, well, I want to let you know. I saw a lower third that you said. And then Mel Kuyper Jr. The lower third got a lot of people.

27:58Matt Patricia:Yes, yes. Oh, yeah, it's very important. It's very important.

28:01Pat McAfee:And then Mel Kuyper Jr., whenever we were at the college football playoff, I'm literally projecting Fernando Mendoza is generational. They put up a lower third. Mel Kuyper Jr. is top five, and it's Dante Moore is the number one overall quarterback. I'm like, what? These people not see him? What do you think? Because I told Danny he doesn't know ball. I said, Dan, I just read an article. You watch seven to nine NFL games every single Monday morning before you go live. you're not watching any Indiana games. That's what I'm learning throughout this. Do you think people just don't know him? Do you think people are learning about him through this process?

28:30Pat McAfee:How do you think people view him now versus maybe a month from now after they kind of see more from him? How do you think that kind of narrative starts or builds?

28:37Matt Patricia:I think with Fernando, it was just like a steady ramp-up, and it was as the competition got better, you saw more form. I use the analogy of more learning.

28:44Pat McAfee:Illinois, he had one good throw. That's what Olovsky told me. At dinner, drinking a red wine with stupid jacking up.

28:50Matt Patricia:The way I look at it is when we all learn how to drive, And it's like they don't just throw you on the freeway. Like Indiana didn't have to put him on the freeway for the first part of the season. It was like we're just going to drive around the parking lot at school and we'll go out in the neighborhoods. And it was like, okay, here come the big dogs on the schedule. We've got to open this thing up, make big throws. And he did that throughout the whole entire process. And with him also I know a lot of college quarterbacks now because it's so RPO-based. We were talking about this in the restaurant the other day.

29:16Matt Patricia:But to me, if you can pull out all the third and seven-plus throws where RPOs are nonexistent because they know you're throwing the ball. Everybody in the stadium knows you're throwing the ball. Red zone where the space is really condensed. Number one in the league. Late game moments and then big games. I'm like, check, check, check, check, check. He went through all those things. So, look, Dan, I think Dan. And he's big. Huge. He's big. So, I think once Dan gets to the end of the process, he needs to go through his process. But I think once he gets to those games.

29:41Pat McAfee:Before he starts talking, don't you think he should go through his process before? That was my big takeaway. You knew what he was doing. Like, Dan, yeah. The caveat was first eight games. I clearly said that. I'm like, Dan, you know what you're doing. He played another eight games. Yeah, and I don't like it yet. He had an NFL season. Yeah, he had the entire thing. But Dan's like, that is my process, to your point.

30:00Matt Patricia:It'll be a great discussion once he gets through the whole process, and I think he'll come up on him as he does that.

30:05Pat McAfee:Okay, so last question about Fernando before the boys have questions about everything else going on. I assume there's going to be more freaks today. Can't wait to hear about that entire thing. Tone gave us a couple names that we need to look for, including out of Toledo, which is crazy to think about at this stage of it all. Fernando, do you have comps? Like, what are your comps for Fernando Mendoza? Because for me, it's hard to really pin anything because he has this nerdiness about him where he could have got into Yale and all this stuff. So you kind of think, like, does he have photographic memory as well?

30:33Pat McAfee:Because it feels like he is incredibly intelligent. So is it like, does he have some Andrew Luckin, the nerd mindset of him? Has beers with the boys, though. So is he one of the nerds that hangs out with the boys? I think there's a list of a couple quarterbacks that have done that in the past. And then he has the intangibles. He can run. He's 6 '5". And he won a national championship for the Indiana Hoosiers. So it's like, what is there a comp for you? And how do you kind of describe or project what he's going to be in the NFL?

30:57Matt Patricia:Yeah, there's not a perfect comp. Some guys, there's like a name that pops right into your head. But in terms of like the size, a little bit bigger version, Matt Ryan was like, you get the name Matty Ice because of what you do late in games and how competitive and tough he was. So I see that aspect of it. I was around Phillip Rivers calling the Charger games. Phillip has got so much juice and energy when you're around him. Like he's like hyper, but like in a good way, loves ball. And is incredibly smart, can talk it inside and out. So I see some elements of that. And Phillips obviously is a big man.

31:26Pat McAfee:And Phillip doesn't swear. It feels like Fernando. But still talks shit. Still like does his thing.

31:31Matt Patricia:Yeah. And then kind of the, that got a little hot in here. And then the quirkiness, luck has, you know, some of that quirkiness, which is endearing to me, especially when you're winning games. When with all this stuff, people have asked like personality wise, how is he going to be in a locker room? This is your answer. but beers with the boys yeah well my answer is changed for me he has beers with the boys like

31:51Pat McAfee:he is out with the o-line sinking them having beers like i think that is for me and you do this a lot more than i do i just look at things hear things and then form an opinion on things i am i 100 right absolutely not i'm sure i've been 100 wrong on a lot of things but like whenever it comes to team and locker room and chemistry i feel like i have a pretty good uh read and feel on that type of thing. The fact, when I learned that he gets beers with the boys, that answered every single other question about, like, can this nerd fit in in a locker room? Because you talk about endearing. Him being a nerd, the boys will be like, if he's good.

32:28Pat McAfee:If he has success, he'll do that. But then if he shows up at a D-line, like, dinner and has some drinks with him or whatever, it's like he's already proven that he would do that. It's like, I love the guy. He's a late bloomer. Obviously, I think he's only gotten better as he's gone. but he talked about his leadership only getting better as he went on too. It's generational. And I got people on the internet because Dan Orlovsky's of the world. He did not watch this guy play football saying, what are we Indiana's quarterback? I don't know. It's like, I think he's generation. I, and they're like, you use the term generational very loosely.

33:00Pat McAfee:I got attacked for the type of human. I am for saying generational. It's like, I think this fucking guy is going to be a top three quarterback in the NFL. That is what I think. Now, a lot of things have to happen around him, which Brock Bowers, Ashton Gentry, Tom Brady, potentially in on conversations a little bit more allegedly from sources that I'm hearing. I think they have a chance to be good over there with him. I think he has a chance to do very good things with the Raiders.

33:21Matt Patricia:I do too. To me, though, with the building philosophy of the Raiders with free agency and with the draft, you go into the draft room and you've got the draft board up. And on the first, the left side is all the offensive players. Right side, you might have all the defensive players. I think I would go in there and just all the magnets, and I probably don't use magnets anymore dating myself. I'd take all those defensive magnets and just swipe them off the board. Just taking offensive players. We're going to go pay Tyler Linderbaum, whatever the heck he wants, in free agency. We get Colt Miller coming back.

33:48Matt Patricia:The left tackle's the hardest piece, and they actually have that piece. Then we're going to go out and we're going to draft somebody on day two that's going to plug and play. You can flip this offensive line. The Patriots, I know it didn't end the way they wanted. They got to the Super Bowl with four-fifths of a new offensive line. The Bears rebuilt the entire interior of that offensive line and made life easier. So it can happen a lot faster than you think. Now, if the Raiders next year, they go 5-12, but Mendoza's getting better and better, and they've got the offense in place, you'd be feeling really good for a 5-12 team.

34:19Pat McAfee:That'd be Drake May New England, basically, year one, even though we got a whole new coach. Him, the entire rookie year, Drake was like, oh, yeah. I mean, we're not winning games right now, but Drake is doing things that we're liking.

34:29Matt Patricia:Absolutely.

34:30Pat McAfee:It's just kind of shucked down there in New Orleans the last four weeks. They kind of go on a little bit of a run. Jackson Dart, I think, had some moments where people were like, okay, he's having it. I think that is good expectation, even though everybody's going to want them to win right now. AJ has a question about anything, DJ.

34:42Jack Hughes:Yeah, DJ, today DB's tight ends will be on the field, I guess. Is there any diamonds in the rough that you think are going to jump off the screen that people may not know a whole lot about?

34:49Matt Patricia:Well, two safeties that I love that I have is like top 25 players in the draft. McNeil Warren from Toledo, which has somehow turned into this DB factory where they're putting out DBs. And he played last year like 2-12, 2-14. He came in here at 2-01, which tells me he's cutting to run. And he's 6 '3 and a half. He's long. He is a great player. I think he's my 15th overall player. He should test well. Thienemann from Oregon, and you guys have seen. And you go back and watch his Purdue stuff. He's playing in the middle of the field, six picks as a freshman, all over the place. Oregon drops him down.

35:21Matt Patricia:He can play in the nickel. He's going to test really well as well. Last year, I think the league screwed up when you have Eamon Worry, who I thought was a top 15 player in the draft, and he got pushed down. I don't think they let that happen again. and I think we're going to see three safeties go in the first round.

35:37Pat McAfee:Seattle was pumped that they let him build a chip on that guy's shoulder. I mean, he was outrageous. What, he broke his ankle Super Bowl week?

35:44Jack Hughes:Yeah.

35:45Pat McAfee:And then he goes and just absolutely dominates. They're a special group over there. Go ahead, Conman.

35:49Jack Hughes:Yeah, DJ, Brett Veach mentioned earlier in the week just about the types of players that are in the combine now and just kind of the players that are coming out of college. There's just more guys staying. Have you noticed that in your research, that it's just become a much older kind of veteran crop of players going into the draft? And how many kind of first-round players are there? Because I remember last year the conversation being like, hey, there's probably 15 first-round guys, but it's a deep draft. Is it different this year as opposed to last year?

36:17Matt Patricia:I think that's pretty similar in terms of just the number of those guys. And then it is another good group from that 16, 17 to 55. That's a sweet spot of this draft. But we have more 24 - and 25-year-olds than we've ever seen. Do you like that or hate that? I like it. I think it's just proof of concept. Like, I've seen more of them. It makes the evaluation a little bit easier when you've seen them do it longer. And, you know, look, everybody's like, well, what about the second contract? I'm like, dude, four or five years, might as well be an eternity from now. Yeah. Like, remember Peyton Wilson.

36:46Matt Patricia:He might be dead. Peyton Wilson, linebacker from NC State. He was older, had some injuries. I'm like, I don't know how long he's going to play. I'm like, well, I don't see Pittsburgh too disappointed with what they're getting out of that guy. Craig Woodson last year was a little bit older. plug and play ready to go there's no we're not sitting here waiting for two years for this guy

37:00Pat McAfee:to be on the field like he's up and running yeah and if you play eight years i think that would be yeah that's a hell of a career and i'm saying that strictly because i played eight years

37:10Megan Keller:and it felt like an eternity what was butsy eight nine nine i think yeah it's like that's a great

37:15Pat McAfee:career so if 25 to 33 34 is all you have whatever you go 25 to 36 yeah like that's 10 years isn't good enough especially with modern science which is great by the way i would recommend it not to these athletes because they are testing stuff, but after they retire, they should certainly get into the real modern science. You should think about it, too. You look good, by the way.

37:31Matt Patricia:Oh, you guys are nice. Have you been at Zempick?

37:33Pat McAfee:Is that a Zempick?

37:34Matt Patricia:No, no, no. Yeah, I do have muscle disappearing, but it's not because of anything.

37:40Pat McAfee:Lack of effort mostly. Ty has a question for you,

37:43Pete Schrager:DJ. Kind of going off Connor's point, you mentioned on your podcast how you haven't heard anyone basically saying, hey, we really want to move up for this guy. As we get closer to the draft, do you think there is a higher percentage chance that a lot of teams are going to be looking to kind of trade down just because there might not be or there might only be like a handful of those surefire hey we know this guy is a top 10 pick

38:05Matt Patricia:or whatever yeah I mean it's it's you know usually the targets trade targets that you look at quarterbacks I don't really see that happening in this draft so you don't really have that movement and then you also look at edge rushers which we have abundance of them so it's like well I like this guy more but man this guy's not a bad fallback plan and I keep my picks so then you're not going to move up there and then it's a big drop off at a position of need so the only thing i could maybe keep an eye on here is if the tackles if you start to see some separation and there's a gap between whether it's the second tackle and the third tackle and you're an you're a team in free agency that doesn't accomplish what you need that that's the scenario i could see maybe that

38:41Pat McAfee:you see a little bit of movement how do you feel up there getting back in the saddle yesterday

38:45Matt Patricia:it's fun man yeah i get the it's the best view you sit up there and watch everything so you Do you smoke in there?

38:51Pat McAfee:Smoke weed? Drink weed?

38:52Matt Patricia:No, no. That's how I saw that. What?

38:55Pat McAfee:The governor got it passed yesterday. I asked him about it. So if you wanted to smoke in there. And you live in California, so you're alive.

39:00Matt Patricia:I'm probably more likely to drink a kombucha and try and keep my stomach. It's nice and steady up there.

39:05Pat McAfee:Okay. So speaking of stomach and drinking stuff, last night's my first ever combine night.

39:10Matt Patricia:Yeah.

39:10Pat McAfee:Ever.

39:12Matt Patricia:Really?

39:13Pat McAfee:Ever. He did it. First time I ever did combine was last night. Like, actually did it.

39:16Matt Patricia:What time did you shut it down?

39:18Pat McAfee:I don't want to even say the number. It's four.

39:21Matt Patricia:Late. Oh, my goodness. So did you get a gold medal for that?

39:26Pat McAfee:Well, actually, the boys would be pretty proud of the way I performed last night, I think, because I'm an old man now at this point. And thank you for noticing. You didn't say anything. It's pretty cool. It looks really big.

39:36Matt Patricia:I've never been that close to a gold medal.

39:38Pat McAfee:It's very heavy.

39:39Matt Patricia:It looks very heavy.

39:40Pat McAfee:It's kind of inconvenient, actually, but I will say we fucking did it, kiddo. Okay, sorry about it. Shout out to Jack Hughes. This guy's a beauty. Is he? Yeah. He's here, yeah. He's right there. Might be on camera. Oh, my gosh. Oh, there he is. Oh, Shefty's got him. Oh, Shefty. Shefty got him. Yeah, Shefty's like, got any nose, got any nose, got any nose, got any nose. Heard you got nose. And he knows, and he knows. How about what they're doing to the guys up in Canada? It seems like they don't like him. Yeah. Oh, look at these boys. Oh, Marks. Bunch of Marks. As that should be, Mark. American hero.

40:11Pat McAfee:Hey, Jack, that's what you do, Jackie. That's what you do. Cannot wait to talk to him, DJ. It's awesome talking to you as well. Well, Tone has a question for you, brother. Yeah, I do. Okay. There's really another question.

40:19Matt Patricia:I thought I was getting ready to get my butt kicked right out of here.

40:22Pat McAfee:We're giving him the whole hour next hour, actually.

40:24Megan Keller:So there's always the upside versus production coming out of the college thing that we always talk about. And then you do what Jacob Rodriguez does yesterday. He has all the production. And then he kind of put a stamp on it with all the athletic scores yesterday. Is there a reason? I can't remember if he's in your top 50 or not. But after he checks all those boxes yesterday with all the athletic scores, is there a chance that he potentially gets into the first?

40:46Matt Patricia:Well, he was not in my top 50. He was just on the edge. He will be in my top 50 going forward. I mean, there was. His three cone was off the charts.

40:54Jack Hughes:That's three cone and the best short shuttle. That's all I care about is change direction, right? That's huge.

40:58Matt Patricia:And you see that. And if you're into like 13 forced fumbles in your career and four picks this year. So, yeah, that was the only thing was like, okay, you know, athletically, well, golly. Like he was solid at the senior bowl. Good, solid week. Made some plays. And then this, it's like, any more questions? No. Like they're answering. Do you hit the town? By the way, I got a great text from somebody. Do you hit the town? Yeah, do you hit the town? No, I don't drink. I don't smoke. I've had a sip. That's amazing. Yeah, I've had one sip of alcohol my entire life.

41:26Jack Hughes:When was it? After my last two a day.

41:28Matt Patricia:App State. After my last two a day at App State, and my lineman, they said, we're going out. This is our last two a day. We're all seniors. And I took this much of a sip. And I said, this tastes like cat urine. And then I was like, I was done. That's a part of it. You drink cat urine? I don't know who sponsors. What kind of alcohol? It was just beer? Huh? Beer? It was a Miller Lite.

41:48Pat McAfee:Oh, okay. Oh, a latte. Cat piss, huh? It's an acquired taste. I just probably not. You would say you've had more cat piss than you've had alcohol?

41:57Megan Keller:Beer then, yeah.

41:59Matt Patricia:Fair. Fair.

42:00Megan Keller:Wait, what was the text you got on Jacob Rodriguez?

42:02Matt Patricia:Oh, the text on Rodriguez was, here it is. You know, 15 teams are now targeting Jacob Rodriguez in the second round, only for the Lions to take him at 17. That's like the most football player.

42:14Pat McAfee:I literally, I was about to say, talking about you going out last night is strictly because, like we talked about, I did. Three different teams that I did not tell or lead into conversation were like, Jacob Rodriguez is a guy that was great in our uniform. And they mentioned him doing the throw at game day. He's the only guy that hit the crossbar on game day. Like, we had quarterbacks do it. We had coaches do it. We've had everybody kind of do it. He steps up and hits it. Quarterback coming into college. Yes. And then he's a turnover machine. Oh, there you go. I heard you say$250 ,000 for children of fallen Patriots.

42:52Pat McAfee:He did right there. Obviously, his wife, Army Blackhawk helicopter pilot. I mean, he's everything you're looking for. And I liked your line about him running a 40 where he might punch a ball out while he's running a 40. It was a good bar out of you, Daniel Jeremiah. We appreciate the fact that we're going to be spending the weekend with you and Rich up there. You guys continue to crush it. We appreciate the hell out of you.

43:12Matt Patricia:Thank you. I appreciate you guys, man. Oh, by the way, happy Rapsheet anniversary. One year ago today we sat here and talked about his fight. He got in the dust off.

43:20Pat McAfee:We wanted to have a face stare down right here.

43:23Matt Patricia:Yeah.

43:24Pat McAfee:Can you make that happen? Schultz has been roaming around the city looking for him, I guess. Rapsheet has just been going to go.

43:28Jack Hughes:Not in the building yelling his name, I heard.

43:29Pat McAfee:You know what? I'm going to be – I did not see Schultz. Raps came in, had two Stellas, told 100 stories, and then he said he was going to go pound pavement and try to hope to run into some people and hopefully get some leverage information out of them as their loose lips are sinking ships out there. So we appreciate the effort. We appreciate the hell out of the combine. And thank you so much for everything that you do for the league. We genuinely appreciate that.

43:53Matt Patricia:No, I appreciate all you guys, man. It's always fun.

43:54Pat McAfee:If you're not drinking or smoking at all, though, we need a six-pack. Like, what are we, you know, like if we're not beating the hell out of our body, we need you next year.

44:04Megan Keller:Strapped. Strapped.

44:06Matt Patricia:Oh, really? Start taking steroids. Put on like 50 pounds of muscle. We would be showed up just so jacked.

44:10Pat McAfee:Why don't you just eat the Subway Protein Power Punch.

44:16Matt Patricia:That's the jam? Oh, yeah.

44:18Pat McAfee:He actually got more meat per capita in the protein than the entire footlong.

44:23Matt Patricia:Really? Yeah, something to think about. Yeah, something to think about. It's like Rhode Island. Yeah. I'm done watching tape on all these guys for the most part now. How many? Starting next year already?

44:31Jack Hughes:Probably.

44:32Matt Patricia:Well, no. You know, I'll do the non-com. I guess probably like 60, 70 more. But those are – I can get through those quick. You're the man. Thanks, buddy. See you guys. Thanks, man. See you later, Jay.

44:42Pat McAfee:Headset's still on. Yep. Oh. It happens. Got me a couple times at Super Bowl. People are going to think you're boozing. Good to see you, man. Thank you. All right, DJ. That's an incredible thing anytime I meet anybody that's ever done that.

44:54Jack Hughes:What, drink cat piss?

44:57Pat McAfee:Valid. That as well. I mean, I don't know how many I have. That was true. But, like, just never tried it, never did. There's multiple people in my life now at this stage are like, I've never even tried it. It's like, I never once just said, good for you, first of all. And you don't have to feel how we feel right now, ever, in your entire life. Who said that?

45:18Megan Keller:Orlovsky. Yeah.

45:19Pat McAfee:Shut up, Dan. Shut up. We're done with that. Hey, Dan, he looks super cool. He had this jacket on. He was drinking red wine. He had the phone on the thing. He and his wife were doing a little date. You know, he's doing the fucking shit. Yeah, being a Somali. Yeah. I'm like, I'm done with it.

45:32Megan Keller:Well, at least he answered. We're two weeks away from him tweeting, man, this Mendoza film. We got to pretend like we got to know which way he's talking about. Or like if people don't respect you.

45:40Pat McAfee:Ladies and gentlemen. Hey, what up, Field? You look amazing. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is an Emmy award-winning host. A man that as soon as he had the opportunity to take a picture with Jack Hughes, he certainly did that. A patriot. A stud. A stallion. Ladies and gentlemen.

45:53Pete Schrager:Still nod his ear off over there. Hey, Trey. Ladies and gentlemen.

45:56Pat McAfee:Peter. Ladies and gentlemen. Yeah. Ladies and gentlemen. ESPN legend. He's going to get up here. It's Jack Hughes. Peter Schreger. Go that way. Go that way, Schreger. Go that way. Yes. Look at that. So many of us. Love it. Yes. Schreger, the greatest.

46:16Jack Hughes:What's up, Schreger? Man. What's up, man? Hello, shoes. Hello, shoes. Yeah, I saw those.

46:22Pat McAfee:You know how tall he is. Yes, yes, yes. New Jersey double, bro.

46:26Jack Hughes:Like painter's pants.

46:26Pat McAfee:I bet it's over by you guys. Headset, Schreger.

46:28Jack Hughes:Those pants are sweet. He's painting a hotel. Are those Abercrombie and Fitch?

46:32Pat McAfee:Are those Abercrombie and Fitch pants? No, I don't know.

46:35Jack Hughes:Painting the Sistine Chapel.

46:36Pat McAfee:I love shoes. I've never seen that. I love shoes. Breaking them out.

46:40Jack Hughes:I didn't know they had them.

46:41Pat McAfee:Yeah, me neither. It might be the Shreggs. Those are Shreggs shoes.

46:45Jack Hughes:Those are your signature line?

46:46Pete Schrager:This is my old look, guys. Fantastic. Combine casual. I've got chicken back.

46:53Pat McAfee:That kid. Jack, yeah.

46:55Pete Schrager:Guys, we have a superstar amidst us.

46:57Pat McAfee:Yeah, not just a superstar. What a stud. Yeah, global phenomenon, I would say. Phenomenon. Yeah, and his teeth are still the way they are. And I was like, cool, you're doing that forever. He's like, I haven't even had time to get to a dentist. We go, we win, we come back, we party, we White House, we're here. Three games and four nights. Two games last night. They played last night. Yeah, against the Penguins. And who won that game, Jack? The Pens. On a back-to-back. I would expect a lot of the teams that have any of the boys from the America team probably not going to win for a week or so.

47:28Pete Schrager:Give a little time to get back into the flow.

47:30Pat McAfee:Yeah, because they are legends in the hockey world. They can't handle their alcohol. He's got a little, like, Chalamet, Tidomi thing going on.

47:37Pete Schrager:I like that. It's like this, like, boyhood star. And then also badass, like, it's going to knock you out. Like, there's a lot going on right there.

47:44Pat McAfee:Comes from a hockey family, you know, so it's, like, literally in his blood. He was drafted number one overall in 2019 as an 18-year-old. He's in year seven right now, and he's 24 years old. I mean, he was the great American hope, I believe, whenever he was drafted number one overall, and here we are. There's been a lot of this, I think, throughout the entire run, especially when you're number one, and you're not like six foot four or whatever, and he's like a little bit undersized guy. And then for him to have that moment, beautiful thing. They picked the right group. Yeah, they did. The hockey gods picked the right group to go ahead and do that.

48:13Pete Schrager:I told him, I said, you know, I'm of a certain age where I wasn't alive for 1980. My son is nine years old. We sat on the couch. There's very few, like, sports moments I'll always remember. His goal will be a story my son and I will talk about for the rest of our lives.

48:25Pat McAfee:And also Megan Keller, who will be like her dangles. A little tip. Nasty. Let's move. Let's talk. Sorry. Let's talk ball. No, no. It's hard not to get jacked up. It makes sense. It's hard. I just had to. It's an American hero. I had the gold medal on while I was just walking around. Sick. Because he just kind of tossed it. Wait, when did that leave? Well, I wanted him and they were getting pictures. Oh, okay. Such a dork. I'm going to teach you. Like a peekaboo street. Oh. I want to let you know, we commentated it as if you were the biggest. Just know that the commentary did match the actions.

48:58Pat McAfee:Okay, let's talk ball. I don't know if you've heard yet. I've said this a lot because I think it is a big deal. We've always chatted about how Indianapolis and Combine are the planting of the seeds of free agency frenzy, of trades, of everything, what everybody's going to do in these gatherings that are taking place. Last night was my first time ever doing it, like kind of bouncing around, talking to people. What a special place. I assume you do a lot of that, obviously, with connections. But everybody is here. How many things are actually getting done, or is this just all seed planted?

49:23Pete Schrager:Seeds. And sometimes you get a trade. Like, the other night, we had a trade between the Jets and the Titans. And it happened here. Like, it happened here. It's where, okay.

49:30Pat McAfee:Or Gonzi left our set.

49:32Pete Schrager:They went and made a trade with the New York Jets. But it's because it's the only time in the NFL calendar where everybody is in the same exact place.

49:40Pat McAfee:Well, except for your friends, McVay and Liam Cohn. Those guys don't show up. They're good. Hey, we need you guys back out here. Hey, we need you guys back out here. I was just talking to Sean.

49:47Pete Schrager:He's asking me, so what did you get into last time? I'm like, you don't get to. No, no. You don't do that. Sean, we need you back out here, man. You don't get to do all that. He's got FOMO. That's it. But also, it's this informal deal where the agents are all here also, which is a different deal with it where, of course, we're all excited to see the coaches and the general managers and do the media stuff. But the calendar for these agents, like I just saw Tommy DeVito's agent, Sean Stellato. Oh, nice.

50:11Jack Hughes:He wanted to go to the other side on.

50:13Pete Schrager:He told me he had 24 meetings with teams in one day.

50:16Pat McAfee:Yeah, he did. That's low for him, actually. Normally, you'd say he had a 30, 40. That's it. A 42 team.

50:21Pete Schrager:But if you take that, he's one agent with four clients. Now, you take about all the different agents here, and they've got to put it out. They can't make deals, but what they will do is they will say, what's the marketplace? What are we looking at for our clients? And this is the only time all calendar year they get in-person interaction. So, yes, there's that. And then there's just hanging out and fun and drinking and enjoying the fact that everyone's away from home. Everyone's in the same place, and it's an annual tradition to get together and let loose a little bit.

50:46Pat McAfee:It was awesome. I should have been doing this. How long have we been doing this? Eight years? I should have been doing this.

50:53Pete Schrager:Got to pace yourself, though.

50:54Pat McAfee:Kind of feels like I've kind of been doing this. Made up for it. It's in our city. I feel like I've been messing this up and missed a lot of opportunities. It was cool last night just to see everybody, you know, because we obviously follow along the season, but getting a chance to chat with them, and then we would have said something in the show, and they'll mention it. Like, you remember when you said whatever, and I'm like, ah, I feel terrible about it. And everybody's like, nah, you have to say what you have to say. It was, like, really cool to kind of do all that. Go ahead, AJ.

51:19Jack Hughes:What about Max Crosby, AJ Brown? Any news you hear when you were pounding the streets last night?

51:23Pat McAfee:Yeah, the tone of Howie is what you said the other day.

51:25Pete Schrager:Well, it's funny because at the trade deadline, Howie Roseman told everyone, no, like, we're not trading AJ Brown.

51:30Jack Hughes:We can't trust anything that anyone says, though, right?

51:33Pete Schrager:Well, that is a good point also. So, and then you go to this media availability, and what he said was, of course, like, you know, I'll always listen. And I said, A.J. Brown's Twitter handle is always open, Howie Roseman always listening. He's always listening. But I would also add this. He is not on the block by any means. They are not proactively trading A.J. Brown. They are not shopping A.J. Brown, but he will always have his phone line open. The issue is, for the Eagles, if they trade him before June 1st, it costs them$40 million in dead cap money. they trade him after June 1st it gets a lot less financially prohibitive so that kind of makes this little window here and he got traded draft day a couple years back from the Titans to the Eagles it makes it a bit more of a hurdle they interviewed 17 different offensive coordinators and they hired a 32 year old who has never called a play and I am told that Sean Mannion walked in there and had an entire presentation that won the day and it basically was here are cut-ups of how my offense would work with your personnel and A.J.

52:31Pete Schrager:Brown was strictly a part of that yeah they got a

52:34Pat McAfee:lot of weapons over there yeah everybody's got to eat and they paid everybody as if they're supposed to eat and then all of a sudden you have success running the ball you got two ones at wide receiver and then you can see how people get a little bit antsy the New England Patriots aren't fans aren't going to love what you just said right there because they thought maybe Vrabel and A.J. Brown were going to be back so we'll just say if somebody gives up the farm Howie always open for the conversation always pick up the phone got it but instead there is a mindset that we're going to be able to get aj brown used the way he should be and he'll be happy to be an eagle that's the hope

53:04Jack Hughes:okay sick go ahead connor yeah shrags it does kind of bum new england out for sure but also knowing mike vrabel and drake mara there it doesn't really matter i want to ask you about a guy that i don't think anybody knows really much about and that's the arizona cardinals in the floor we saw him walking around the other day he's got really cool hair i don't know if he's got his brother's eyebrows just yet but what do you think about the cardinals what should our expectations be for them going forward who's even playing quarterback like should we just assume this is a punted year like truly are they trading kyler like what should the expectations be uh on

53:37Pete Schrager:the outside looking in for the cardinals yeah look so they come in there and kyler was not drafted by monty austin for and kyler this would be his third head coach and it seems like this might be a financial situation as well where it takes them in a lot different financial situation if the first three days they get rid of him in the nfl new year so that's like march 11th 12th 13th they save themselves a lot of money and everyone starts anew that said i did have dinner with michael floor last night with his cool haircut new spot new spot dean's do you know dean i heard it's in a hotel right it's in the jw and i never used to be shoes yeah no that was the weston it's

54:15Megan Keller:Ah, sorry. It was the Italian place before. Yes, yes.

54:19Pat McAfee:See, this is the problem, though. This is what we're talking about. We never do this. I would never do this. And stop telling people about Cafe Patichu. And it's not chow, it's Patichu, brother. Shut up. Have I been? Is this a brunch place?

54:33Pete Schrager:Because there's like four of them, right?

54:35Pat McAfee:Yeah, there's a lady that owns that and also like four other restaurants. This lady has a monopoly on great food. Bro, how good is it? Unbelievable. Patichu is very good.

54:42Pete Schrager:So, Patichu, I said on a social media clip that that's where everyone, that's the real spot. Here we go again. And I'm not trying to promote it, but then I literally, Peter King, Howie Roseman, Kevin Demow, like the list of people. Peter King? Wow. Saying, what are you doing?

54:54Pat McAfee:How do you do that? Did he write you a letter?

54:57Pete Schrager:Typewriter.

55:00Pete Schrager:It's like, that's a secret we don't want out there. I'm sorry.

55:04Pat McAfee:I don't know if he's here, so he could probably just move on. Ty has a last question for you here, Shreggs.

55:09Pete Schrager:What about Malik Willis? Everything we've heard is like all of a sudden he's kind of the bell of the ball when it comes to free agent quarterbacks. And, you know, I guess everyone's given Aaron Glenn shit for falling asleep yesterday. But maybe it's because he already knows that he's going to go get a guy like Malik Willis. So quarterback doesn't matter. Like what where is he going to end up? And is he right now the most sought after free agent quarterback? The perfect storm for a player is what Malik Willis has right now in that there is a supply and demand issue in the NFL. And he is the premier free agent quarterback to be where you can just sign him straight up.

55:40Pete Schrager:no trade you could just make the best offer and he can entertain it he also has two different teams with really strong connections the miami dolphins the gm from the packers and the defensive coordinator from the packers is new the head coach and then in arizona mike lafleur is the head coach where did willie quillis just read you know reinvigorate his career with matt lafleur in green bay so there are two teams that might be quarterback hungry and you have a draft pick situation where mendoza is the number one pick, and it's not exactly a two-horse race there where there's anyone else in the Mendoza conversation.

56:11Pete Schrager:Oh, really?

56:11Pat McAfee:Or Lovsko? We're not doing it. We're not getting into this. We only have like a minute left, and you know TV. No, don't be sorry. We are sorry.

56:18Pete Schrager:I'm going on talking about Dean's Seek Food and Steak, and I apologize. I should be talking football. It's my bad. No, no, no. Wrong show. We should be talking about Dean's, because we just learned

56:27Pat McAfee:this place existed, too. Never knew. Me neither. Shout out to that. No, I wouldn't have enough time. Dimes? Dimes is just going to go to the Colts? I think so. Yeah, because you said Malika Williams is by far the number one free agent. I don't know.

56:39Pete Schrager:And they don't have a first-round pick, so it's not like they're going to be. This year, next year. Vikings?

56:43Jack Hughes:Aaron?

56:45Pete Schrager:Vikings? Don't think so. What's Aaron Rodgers doing? I don't know. I don't know. Vikings, real quick. Two names. Kyler Geno Smith, if he is available. Oh, because Geno. Two names. Two names.

56:58Pat McAfee:That's Schrager. We're back for hour two with Jack Hughes.

57:02Jack Hughes:From 30 for 30 podcasts.

57:12Megan Keller:Brian Pata, senior defensive lineman from Miami, gunned down. The key to this case, it's Brian.

57:20Jack Hughes:Boy, he's ripping. An hour before he died, he was on the phone arguing with somebody. This might be a hit. You want the truth. They just want a conviction. They're placed under arrest.

57:29Megan Keller:We had a killer amongst us.

57:31Jack Hughes:Murder at the U. Listen now.

57:39Pat McAfee:Football is obviously what we should talk about. Okay. We don't have the knowledge on anything else that we have on football. So we talk about football more than maybe anything else and maybe more anybody else other than full NFL shows. Sure. When you're at the combine you can't help but get excited about the future of the NFL and the future of football. It looks like it's going to be bigger, stronger, faster than it's ever been. Up and to the right, seemingly continue. Oh, yeah, the salary cap next year, up 20-some million. It's up over 300 million. Everything in football, very, very healthy.

58:11Pat McAfee:But if it's sports and it's happening, it's the United States of America, we are certainly going to celebrate the hell out of it. We think sports are the greatest thing. We think sports are unifying. We think sports are beautiful. We think sports exemplify everything that's good out there when it comes to humans. We talk about grit. We talk about buy-in. We talk about discipline. We talk about working when you're tired. You're talking about working your ass off and losing and understanding that, oh, just because I worked hard and I lost doesn't mean I should stop. I got to get back on that horse and go again.

58:36Pat McAfee:Sports are the greatest thing on earth. And whenever an entire country can buy it, well, I don't know what the percentage is. I don't know what the percentage is. People I know, 100 % of the country can buy in and rally around a team. And a team can do something magical that the entire country and the sports world will talk about for the rest of time. It's a beautiful thing. So in this hour, we'll be talking to a guy who's going to go down in the annals of sports celebration in Jack Hughes here in a matter of moments. And I'll tell you, the shirt's awesome. The gold medal is filthy. There's some silky mitts all around.

59:14Pat McAfee:And I think he's a beauty. I do believe they picked the right one. From the Hughes hockey family, his brother obviously on the team, Quinn. And then his other brother, Luke, I believe is also potentially a member of the team, but he's younger. So he'll be on there. So there'll be two Kachucks, three Hughes's, a couple Nelsons, and then goddamn Halibut going on to take on the rest of the world going forward. And that's right where we want to be. We're so incredibly lucky that we get to talk about sports. We're so incredibly thankful that we're a part of the sports world. And it's obviously not just me.

59:43Pat McAfee:The Toxic Table is here at Boston Corner and at Ty Schmidt. Great to see you. We miss you. We love you, buddy. One half of the hammer. Done. Cowboys AP Tone is here. Do you have any bets of the day? Are all those gone? And how have your bets of the day gone?

59:55Megan Keller:Those are all gone. We did four of them. We did the vertical jump. I did under 43 and a quarter inches because I thought that was just an absolute absurd number. It is, but Sonny Stiles did that number yesterday, so I lost that one. And then I did the over 35 and a half reps for bench press. That already went over with, oh, man, I can't remember his name. He's out of Kentucky. DiTaco out of Kentucky. DiGusto. Thank you, Mr. Gusto. Thank you. I appreciate that voice. He just repped it out, and he fought for those last couple ones, so I appreciate him getting us a win there. Yeah, for all of us.

1:00:30Megan Keller:Yes, the ones that have not been settled yet are the broad jump, which I believe is 11-4 is the over-under in that one, and then the other one is the 40. The wideouts and D-backs have not gone yet. That is over-under 4-2-6-5. I went with the under on that one.

1:00:45Pat McAfee:Special athletes trying to chase a special dream. That's what this is all about. Let's go to a man who's a college football national champion, Super Bowl champion, Ryder Cup winner, and the most athletic human to ever be a part of the Combine, AJ Hawk. Hawk. Your thoughts on our three days back here. We go from Radio Row, okay, to Overreaction Monday, and then boom, right at the Combine. Feels like a nice little back-to-back without the two weeks in the middle.

1:01:09Jack Hughes:It's awesome. I mean, everything about, like the Combine, I didn't know what to expect coming. I actually wasn't here with you boys last year, and coming here, it's way more energy, way more juice. And I think just seeing all the GMs and coaches and getting to interact a little bit with them is great because it's true. Like you said earlier, Pat, we don't – I'm actually – I'm in an attic in Ohio, so I do the show. I go back downstairs, drive my kids to practice, do whatever. I have no clue what people are watching. So the fact that these guys will mention things that happen on the show, I'm like, what do you do?

1:01:38Jack Hughes:I didn't realize they even knew we were doing a show. So, yeah, it's really cool to be here.

1:01:41Pat McAfee:It is fun. And Dan Morgan yesterday saying Panthers are a good football team. Go football team. Go football team. It's like them knowing what that means. It's like, oh, and they appreciated that, I think. Like, I think they genuinely appreciated us going to bat for them. And then there's some teams where they're like, hey, you called us out, and that was, like, just a reality of situation. Thank you for doing it in an entertaining fashion. There you go. Hey, you got it. Next time, we'll try to add even more in this entire thing. But it's a special time to be an NFL fan, Ty, because just like Connor has mentioned a few times this week, last year this was his Super Bowl.

1:02:14Megan Keller:Yeah.

1:02:14Pat McAfee:Last year it was like, okay, all eyes are on draft season. and we're trying to build something special. Little do they know they're going to end up in the Super Bowl, but it is a special time where everybody has optimism that they could potentially win the next Lombardi.

1:02:25Pete Schrager:Yeah, and I think even more so this year after you look at what the Patriots did. Like, the Patriots were that example last year. They won, what, three games? So it's like we say it every year, how every fan base goes into the season and right around this time it's like, oh, wow, you know what? We actually could be in the Super Bowl. All you have to do is look at what the Patriots did last year. Now, granted, part of that is Drake may ascends to being one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and you have a guy like Vrabel who you knew was going to turn it around. It was only going to take a matter of time.

1:02:52Pete Schrager:But, like, the proof is in the pudding. Any of these teams who won three games or four games last year, we have a lot of new head coaches in the NFL. If you do hit on your first pick in the draft or whatever the case may be, like, there is a chance you could be playing in the Super Bowl next year.

1:03:06Jack Hughes:Yeah, like Craig Woodson. Yeah, that's unfortunate. Yeah, that was dumb. So much water.

1:03:12Pat McAfee:I mean, this thing is inside the thing. There's just water because it was an ice bat. I appreciate everybody that's doing this. Somebody brought me up a new Gatorade because they understand I'm going through it from last night. I was very thankful for it. But any time you get something with a wrapping in it and it's in ice with water, there's a chance that this thing is going to rear naked choke the water. Every single part had things. I just squirted it right on myself. So I apologize for distracting you. But, yes, there is a lot of optimism going into the season. That's how everybody feels. That's how every team feels here, by the way.

1:03:40Pat McAfee:Super Bowl is over. Like, Schneider obviously is walking around, you know, as he should. Peacocking. As he should because of what he is. But he knows that's –

1:03:49Megan Keller:Shoots and ladders. Yeah, water just gone over.

1:03:51Pat McAfee:He knows that that's who – Sean Payne said shoots and ladders. Does not matter. Like, literally, that is kind of what today is and what this combine is. It's turning the page, Convain.

1:03:59Jack Hughes:Yeah, and that's something, you know, Ty mentioned the draft picks. Like, and DJ brought it up. Craig Woodson was one of the best players for the Patriots, and he was one of those guys that fell in the draft because he was older. You know, he stayed in college at Cal longer. And then all of a sudden, you know, he is a superstar making huge plays, one of the kind of bright spots of the Super Bowl for New England. So that's also kind of something that we should think about with the combine and just rookies in general. Like, there are going to be way more impact players as rookies just because they are kind of not veterans, but they're coming in at 23, 24 years old, and they play right away, and the speed isn't too much.

1:04:35Jack Hughes:The complexity isn't too much. Whereas before when they were younger, you probably needed a year or two to get used to it. A lot of snaps. Yeah. A lot of snaps.

1:04:42Pat McAfee:A lot of snaps for a lot of these players. Some suing people to try to get more college snaps. Yeah, that's right. To try to be able to delay going into the NFL. Here's the draft order that we'll be looking at for the next couple of months. Raiders with Fernando Mendoza, Orlovsky. Jets, Cardinals, Titans, who that's old logo, I think. Yeah. Shout out to us. Giants, Browns, Commanders, Saints. And then at number nine.

1:05:07Megan Keller:Crazy.

1:05:08Pat McAfee:Uh-oh. That Kansas City Chief.

1:05:11Megan Keller:Uh-oh. You know who's mocked there a lot?

1:05:12Pat McAfee:Are the Chiefs dead and gone? Is that what people are thinking?

1:05:16Megan Keller:I don't know.

1:05:18Pat McAfee:Nobody's talking about the Chiefs right now.

1:05:19Megan Keller:I know Jeremiah Love is mocked there a lot. Jeremiah Love in that offense with Mahomes and all those other boys would be something to watch. But it's crazy to see that logo in the top ten. Mahomes gets back healthy. They fix their offensive line. I think they'll be just fine.

1:05:33Pat McAfee:It feels like Travis Kelsey's playing again, huh? Yeah, it does. Absolutely.

1:05:37Megan Keller:We broke that last year. Feels like Tyreek Hill's going there, too. Oh, yeah, you're right.

1:05:40Pat McAfee:Oh, yeah, I'm surprised. You know, last night I was, you know, in a state of mind that I hadn't been in a long time. It was nice catching up with everybody, seeing everybody. I was firing off some texts to people in the league. Oh, yes. Calling them lame for not being there. You loser. This guy said you didn't want to come because of blah, blah, blah. Oh, I love that. A lot of people. A lot of people. A lot of former teammates. A lot of former coaches, both from West Virginia and also in the league. There's a lot of people with a lot of different staffs now that we're getting older that we know.

1:06:05Pat McAfee:So talking shit, I'm surprised I didn't just fire one off to old killer Trav last night. And I'm thankful I didn't. Trav, you almost got a U-up text from me last night. Just got to figure out what the story is. If he's coming back, he'll be motivated once again. And if they, I mean, Tyreek Hill, Dr. Chow is saying, another surgery doesn't look good for this year. But what if it's the tail end of the season or whatever? Because Tyreek Hill, we've seen him be very durable and also recover very quickly if he's able to get back over there. and then you've got Patrick Mahomes who's being counted out as a guy that's not even good anymore, basically.

1:06:37Pat McAfee:People aren't even mentioning his name. It's like Andy Reid and the boys over there can be very motivated with the Chiefs and they've got a top ten pick that they can bundle with some other shit and move up if they want to because just like DJ said, 17 to 34 a lot. So if you like somebody and you want to move up, there's going to be a lot of dancing partners, I think. What if the Chiefs trade up into the top five? What if the Chiefs make a move and all of a sudden we see a dynasty in the middle of it while also having definitely a top ten pick but maybe even higher than that. There's a chance for all of that, which is why it's so exciting.

1:07:06Jack Hughes:Well, that's why today and tomorrow would be cool because we're going to see tight ends and receivers. They're the ninth pick. They might get the number one or number two receiver of the entire draft, and that feels like the position that has been the most successful as far as guys coming in in the top ten, getting picked, and then immediately making an impact. Like a Carnell Tate, could you imagine a player like that with Mahomes, Kenyon, Sadiq, a freak like that? Yeah, Makai Lemon. Like, if they get the number one weapon of this class, and then you talk about Tyreek Hill, Jeremiah. You know, Tyreek Hill plays the last 10 games.

1:07:40Jack Hughes:They get a number one weapon from the draft, or even more so if they get a, you know, top one, two, three tackle or lineman. It's like there's just so many options for Kansas City that if you do think that they are dead in general, you should probably rethink that thought completely.

1:07:57Pat McAfee:Ladies and gentlemen, joining us now is a man who is going to go down as one of America's greatest athletes. Had a moment that sent us all into a frenzy. He's got a busted chiclet, ladies and gentlemen. Olympic gold medalist, Jack. Yeah!

1:08:15Pat McAfee:Come on! In the back pocket. That is so cool. Just got a gold medal. Back pocket, a gold medal. Of course. You are the greatest, dude. I want to give you stick tops. Yeah, stick tops. Stick tops. Stick tops.

1:08:26Jack Hughes:Stick tops. Stick tops, boys.

1:08:28Pat McAfee:Stick tops for the boys. Yeah, put a gold medal out of your back pocket. This kid's got a gold medal in his back pocket for the rest of his life.

1:08:35Jack Hughes:Oh, man. Don't mess that up, you lug. Yeah, you pass it down to you in a second, maybe. Is it all right if I pass it to Connor?

1:08:39Pat McAfee:No, I think you should hang on to that. They put a graphic out last night, Jack. You wouldn't know this. That said A.J. Hawk was the greatest athlete of all time. I did say that last night. You didn't see that? Yeah. During your game. Hey, you won that. Thank you. Way to go, Hawk. Way to go, Hawk. There we go. So, Jack, we apologize that you're sitting here and we're applauding somebody else. Thank you. Hey, thank you. Hell yeah. Let's go. We appreciate it so much.

1:09:09Daniel Jeremiah:I know I've said that like a million times, but since we've come back to the U.S., man, we feel so much love and support. So it's been unbelievable.

1:09:17Pat McAfee:Well, I think your gratitude is why we appreciate it so much. Like your speech, your interview immediately afterward, after bearing as Kachuk was calling it on his podcast. By the way, run it up, boys. We need a lot of clips. You go ahead and run that thing up. This is going to be a good one. Kachuk said the greatest goal of our generation. And then you go and do an interview immediately afterwards and you talk about like how thankful you are and how proud you are of the country. Why is that? Do you think it's because United States hockey always fighting against Canada hockey, like since your kids?

1:09:43Pat McAfee:Like how about this generation of team that you guys have? Why do you think it meant so much, and why do you think you were the right group to do it?

1:09:50Daniel Jeremiah:Yeah, I mean, first of all, you've got to remember, there's the National Team Development Program in Michigan, and all these guys, I think of the 25 guys on that team, I think 21 of those guys are NTDP guys. So that's where the best American kids go to play and grow up, and you play there when you're 16, 17 years old, and you get drafted out of there. So, like, these guys, man, there's, like, I think there's eight guys off the 96, 97 program teams there. So these guys were going to high school together and stuff. Are you one of those guys or are you younger than them? I was in 01. So Matt Boldy was on my team.

1:10:26Daniel Jeremiah:He's an 01 mass kid. Brock Faber and Jake Sanderson on the 2002 team. So we used to, like, I legit was in class with these guys, you know. And that's where it all starts. And these guys, like, grow up playing together. like you go to weddings and all these guys are at the weddings like the Matthew Kachuk wedding I think like seven or eight of these guys are there and you're just like the team camaraderie is unbelievable and I mean like the USA like the ex-USA hockey players man the way they speak about us and you know the things they have done for us that's why I said it like in that interview the the USA hockey brotherhood is so strong and I don't know what it's like for other countries but But, you know, we appreciate the guys who have come before us so much.

1:11:12And, you know, I know that in 20 years there will be another Jack Hughes.

1:11:16Daniel Jeremiah:And I hope he says the same thing. There won't be. There will be. There will be because there's Mike Madonow, there's Patrick Kane, there's Austin Matthews, there's Jack Eichel. And it's just legacy.

1:11:27Megan Keller:Did I see Rizzo on someone's shoulders? Yeah, I think on Dylan Larkin. Dylan Larkin was the MVP of the party.

1:11:36Daniel Jeremiah:Him and Charlie McAvoy. Those guys were unbelievable.

1:11:39Pat McAfee:I believe Charlie McAvoy will be joining us next week. Can't wait to talk to him about that. Very excited to celebrate with the boys. Obviously, the 11th celebration. We've been following you guys, enjoying this all. Much quicker, because we see the Stanley Cup. I think Ovi went for like three weeks straight with that thing, boozing every single day. The Lordo celebrations are legendary at this point. I mean, that's real. Hockey players are good at celebrating. We think that is a trait that you guys have. Yeah, it is. You guys are very good at that. Quick turnaround here. You guys are already back in the league.

1:12:09Pat McAfee:Do you feel like you will always have the group text? You said the USA Hockey Brotherhood is there. And I saw you whenever the New Jersey Devils wanted to celebrate you, and you went and got Tage Thompson out there from the Buffalo Sabres and brought him out to celebrate. And your place went crazy for him as well. Do you feel like you guys are going to be connected forever? Because you definitely are. And how do you manage that for the rest of the season here?

1:12:28Daniel Jeremiah:Yeah, I mean, we're definitely bonded forever. You know, we're a championship, you know, Olympic gold medal winning team. And we're just so happy. I mean, we've got the World Cup coming up this year in the U.S. So what's happening?

1:12:42Pat McAfee:When do we beat everybody else? That's happening.

1:12:45Daniel Jeremiah:But I'm sure we'll do something along the lines of that. And then it's such a good guy. Like we were talking already, like can't wait for the golf trip this summer. Like it's just like, man, the team camaraderie and like just these USA guys, they're all just such great guys, such a happy, genuine group. and I'm so glad to be a part of it and just be one of the guys. You guys all know it. It's like be one of the guys, man. It's the best. And that locker room, man, I miss it already.

1:13:12Pat McAfee:Me too, man.

1:13:13Jack Hughes:Yeah.

1:13:14Pat McAfee:Hey, when you guys do that golf trip, please don't announce it publicly where you're at so I don't feel obligated. Thank you so much. Go ahead, AJ.

1:13:20Daniel Jeremiah:Yeah, hey, Pat, I'm actually going to cover this thing. AJ, go ahead.

1:13:24Pat McAfee:That was for America. That wasn't just me. As I said in there. No, that was the entire United States of Mets. Thank you for giving us.

1:13:30Daniel Jeremiah:We had an unbelievable night. So fun watching all the guys just enjoy that. And I wish, obviously we wish we could have let it roll for a little longer. But we're back at it. Like, I played it back-to-back already. I think a couple other guys played it back-to-back. But, I mean, that was so fun. But we're hockey players. We're back to playing biscuit and just, you know, back to it. That's what it's all about. I'll tell you what. You get a couple of hossel snozzers and then you get a couple of biscuits.

1:13:54Pat McAfee:I love playing biscuit. Go ahead, AJ.

1:13:56Jack Hughes:Yeah, did you? I guess every little kid seems that, you know, whatever sport they play, they they dream they they envision themselves as a little kid like hitting the winning shot whatever did you ever as a kid or even leading up to that throughout practice think like hey i might be the dude that wins a gold medal for this country did that ever cross your mind and then also like right after it happened i guess did it did it sink in right away what had happened and you'd won the gold for the team it's hard to say because um you know there was a story that went out uh right after

1:14:25Daniel Jeremiah:Quinn I think Quinn my brother had an interview and uh they asked him like you surprised like can you believe it was your brother and I remember the night before the game before a big game it's hard to sleep obviously and we're in these barracks in these dorm rooms in Olympic Village right so we're in twin size bed and we like probably 11 30 we're like going to bed and uh I can hear Quinn rolling around for like no joke three hours and it was like probably two in the morning this is like unbelievable and two in the morning he's like he asked me he's like what are you thinking about and i'm just like i'm just thinking about my my game winner tomorrow night what about you and he said the same and that was it and we went to bed after that but oh i'm getting right now thinking that honestly yeah like when i'm a kid obviously you dream of it and you just dream of putting the the jersey on the usa jersey because it means so much and And, yeah, I mean, you just, like, did I think I was going to be the guy?

1:15:24Daniel Jeremiah:Like, I believe in myself so much. But whether it was me, Matthews, Kachuks, Ike, like, whoever, we were so genuinely happy for whoever because we just wanted to bring a gold medal home for our country.

1:15:34Pat McAfee:Yeah, and you did. And we loved watching it. And I think against Slovakia, you had a silky cook, top chin, nasty, so, so sick dangles in there at full speed. I will hit all the hockey terms that I know in this conversation. But whenever that nasty shot in that particular goal, then I hear Kachuk give his little rundown of the potential. So what is going through your mind there? How much are you thinking? Are you blacking out? Is it all just like natural reaction? And how does the puck end up five hole as opposed to maybe somewhere else in this particular shot?

1:16:09Daniel Jeremiah:Yeah, I think like that clip, if you bring it back, the biggest, honestly, the biggest thing going through my head, McDavid, best player probably ever. Sidney Crosby exists thanks Jack and then you also exist too so let's remember that he was coming down on me and uh all the boys on the bench were freaking out you know nervous because I'm a forward playing defense and he was coming down on me and then uh good defensive play there and then obviously Larkin Z get up the ice and kind of like on that play when the goalie it's like a seam pass going the goalie's going cross crease so I was trying to go across the grain and he's an aggressive fast goalie and he shot out at me and um like I was looking low glove low like low on the far side of the net and you know he shot out at me and it ended up going five hole but I didn't even know it went in because the puck got wrapped around the like where the camera holder is so instead of it like the puck usually like shoots out of the net and this time it like got stuck in the net so I didn't even really know and then I turned the corner and I saw I saw Dylan Larkin, the first guy I saw, just sprinting up the ice, and I said, like, we did it.

1:17:18Daniel Jeremiah:Holy. Yeah. You certainly did, brother. That was special for me.

1:17:22Pat McAfee:I know you were out there doing the shot. I was in a hotel, and I said, we did it. Yeah. I think that was the cool feeling. Like, did you guys know that? And you talked about being at Olympic Village. That was a decision made by you guys, I think, right, to kind of buy into everything that is the Olympics. And we bought into who your team was. Did you guys know that? And I heard a lot of conversations from Solly, who obviously was with Pittsburgh for a long time. We thank him for Stanley Cups. Now he's in New York. I heard he gave some great speeches. And were you guys reminding each other, like, hey, our country is, like, really riding with us right now.

1:17:54Pat McAfee:Like, 5 a.m. West Coast, people were up. 8 a.m., it's like, here we go. Every single moment we were alongside. Did you know that in the moment? And how much do you guys kind of chat about that? Or how much does Solly bring that up?

1:18:04Daniel Jeremiah:Yeah, so I have so many points off that one question. But I feel like there's, like, five different points off that. Do it.

1:18:11Pat McAfee:And also, final one, are you getting used to speaking with the busted shit? Is this going to be you forever? It should be.

1:18:19Daniel Jeremiah:It looks cool. So regarding Sully, you know, you get into these, like, these Olympic teams. These, like, it's the big dogs on every team, you know. So you get in that locker room with just a bunch of alphas. Like, you got guys that are leaders on their NHL teams and just a lot of big personalities and guys that have, like, you know, exude. exude confidence. Yeah, I'm choked up too, dude. Sorry. They exude confidence and they're like the ultimate leaders and just, you know, big dogs, Alpha. So I think in that room, there's a ton of belief, no matter what happened, so much confidence. And then Sully just kept telling us American swagger, American swagger.

1:19:00Daniel Jeremiah:That was kind of his motto was American swagger. And, um, you know, Billy Guerin, our GM at the start of the tournament brought us in and said, And he said, whatever it takes. Doesn't matter if the food's bad at the village, whatever it takes. Doesn't matter if, you know, the locker room's too small. Like, whatever it takes. Doesn't matter if the ice is bad, whatever it takes. And with that and Sully just driving home, American Swagger, American Swagger. We're the best team in this tournament. We're the best team in the world. Like, our belief just skyrocketed. And obviously, you know, American Swagger brought us a gold medal.

1:19:36Pat McAfee:Yeah, and I like that we got American Swagger. And I'm getting choked up, too. You know, I had a big night last night having a good American swagger. We should have paid for your night last night, huh? Oh, yeah. That would have been nice. Still available. Seven years in the NHL. Number one overall pick. Yeah. I learned a lot about a lot of your guys' pockets after that night. You know, a lot of people were telling me. But American swagger. Could you feel that America was behind you guys, though?

1:20:01Daniel Jeremiah:Yeah. I mean, we were in the village. We're locked in. We're in Italy. We're just with the boys. we're we're locked in we're dialed in you guys know how it is when you're focused on something you're just like you're you got your mind on the task and um we knew people back home were supporting and loving us so much but i mean once once we touched down on american soil we were like wow man we we are really feeling the love and we feel so supported and that was sick because just when when we got back home we really felt it and good we were just like we were so proud to be back in the U.S. for the gold medal.

1:20:38Pat McAfee:Yeah, and the women as well. We just dominate sports. Do you guys hate them, I heard? Yeah, that's true. I heard you guys hate them. I heard you hate the women's hockey team, dude. That's crazy. Olympic Village, man.

1:20:49Daniel Jeremiah:Like, we're hanging out with them so much, the women's team. We are supporting them. Like, we're at their games. They're at our games. Like, all these people talking. How many of them watch their gold medal game? Me and Quinn Hughes, we're in the game. We were at the game until, like, overtime ended.

1:21:08Pete Schrager:On the glass.

1:21:09Daniel Jeremiah:And we were jumping up and down, so excited for these girls, so excited they won. And how many of these people watched the gold medal game, watched their semifinals game? Like, ten of our players went to their game in the round robin. Like, we supported them so much, and we're so proud of them. We're so happy that they won, and they brought a gold medal back. And that, you know, I said it, the men's and women's team both brought gold medals back. So just unbelievable for USA hockey. Yeah, we own the sport.

1:21:38Pat McAfee:Yeah. Sorry about it. Now, listen, I do think there is some political things that happen. And maybe people that have never watched sports before were not just a hockey game or any sport ever were potentially the people that are maybe hopping in to some of these conversations. But you allegedly, you and your brother, the story was like Tom Brady wanted to meet up. There was a time, a schedule. And you're like, no, I would like to go watch the women's hockey team. Your mom, I believe, is a women's hockey, U.S. women's hockey legend, from my understanding. So that narrative getting built, I assume for you guys, was very frustrating in this entire thing.

1:22:13Pat McAfee:And I think as we roll on, it'll be very obvious that we're all in this thing together. We got Megan joining us here in like an hour or so. She's up in Ottawa. Megan Keller? Yeah.

1:22:23Daniel Jeremiah:Yeah, man. Me and her had a great moment in the cafeteria. After her gold medal game, we played Sevakia the next night. and it was like a late game, 9-10 game, so you get back to the calf at like 1.30 at night, and we were in the pasta line, me and Megan, they were just getting ready to go out again, and I just gave her a massive hug, and I said, I'm so happy for you, I'm so proud of you, and you wouldn't believe me and Quinn's reaction, we were so pumped for you, and then two nights later, or whatever it was, a couple nights later, saw her again in the calf, and we took a great picture, and she just gave me a big hug and was so pumped for me as well.

1:23:03Pat McAfee:Yeah, well, that's, yeah, that feels like that's how probably everybody that's in the entire thing. Now, granted, after you win the gold medal and you're in a locker room feeling euphoria, we need you guys to be conscious about good journalism, okay? We need you guys to be good conscious about all that type of stuff. The expectations on you guys in that moment, outrageous, but just know that everybody with a brain, so pumped for both you and the women's team. I believe they're playing Freebird right now as an ode to you. That's sweet. You boys going wild over there with a few songs, I feel like.

1:23:33Pat McAfee:We watched it at 11 whenever the songs came on. It was like, oh, this must have been the boys. The national anthem.

1:23:38Daniel Jeremiah:They must have played Dream On like 10 times. Hell yeah. It's the best song of all time. Like, come on, boys. Well said. Well said. I'm sure the usual, like, on deck, what's on deck for that DJ. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Way different than what was going on.

1:23:56Jack Hughes:Connor has a question for you. Yeah, Pat just mentioned you come from a family of playing biscuit. You know, your mother being a huge part of USA Hockey, your dad. And there's a sweet moment after the game of big walk-a-chuck and your dad kind of basically holding each other's, you know, heads in their hands. Just euphoric after you scored that game winner. But just talking about your family, you know, was there a moment after the gold medal when it was just you guys or you guys got a chance to just kind of take in that moment? and how huge of an upbringing, you know, with your mother and father being involved in hockey, has that played just in your entire life?

1:24:31Jack Hughes:You know, let alone your older brother being, you know, legend captain over in Vancouver, getting traded to Billy G's Wilds before as well, too. Him kind of having that connection. But how cool was it to see? And there's another one, right? There's another one of you. Yeah, your other brother, a teammate of yours, I believe, like Luke. That is also just such a kind of historic family of hockey. Have you guys had a chance to sit down just as the Hughes's together? And how much do they mean to you as far as your hockey journey goes from this moment?

1:25:02Daniel Jeremiah:So, yeah, I'll start with, you know, I'll start with the Keith Kachok, Jimmy Hughes celebration in the crowd. That was unbelievable. And I don't know what they were doing, hugging, kissing up there. Yeah, yeah, maybe both. But so when Quinn, this NTDP that I was speaking about before, when Quinn and Brady were there together, they lived together with Big Walt. So those three lived together for two years. And like Big Walt means so much to Quinn Hughes's development. He's got so many funny stories of Quinn and Brady. So, yeah, like the Hughes and Kachuk family are so close. Matthew and Brady have been so good to the three of us for for so long.

1:25:44Daniel Jeremiah:and it's family. So the fact that you got to share that together is unbelievable. And then regarding my family, we really haven't had much time to, you know, just break this down and, you know, just talk about how special it is. I just told my parents briefly, you know, when I saw them, like how proud I am to represent them, the Hughes family name. and I'm just so thankful and lucky that they sacrificed everything for us. For them to have three boys in the NHL, people don't even understand how hard it is, how much hard work it takes to get one boy there, let alone three. So I'm just so lucky. I'm so thankful that they're my parents, and I'm so proud, and I'm so proud that we represent them and everything they've done for us.

1:26:35Pat McAfee:So the hockey guy just said, let's pick the perfect guy for this whole thing. That's what they do. Everything you do is like with such humility. Why is that? Because hockey is like a sport that will just beat your ass. Like hockey is the culture that this entire thing, because every hockey player I met, which is why I think we're all so happy for the women's and men's hockey team. It's like always say and do the right stuff. Like team always first before anything else. I assume you're even kind of uncomfortable with all the spotlight, but it's for the good of the game and for the good of the United States of America.

1:27:04Pat McAfee:Is that just what hockey is? And obviously whenever you grow up in it with your family, It's just kind of like, hey, remember, this is much bigger than just you. Is that kind of the mindset you think of hockey and why your culture has remained what it is? Where you eat a stick, lose a tooth. Who knows how painful that has to be? It has to be so painful. And then I talked to you earlier. You're like, there wasn't really like a question on if I was going to. Like, people are making a big deal out of that. Like, you were almost like confused why it was such a big deal. And I think it's because in every other sport in 2026, if somebody is given an opportunity to potentially say, I got to look out for me, especially for something you're not getting paid for, which would be the Olympics.

1:27:45Pat McAfee:It's like they would definitely bow out of that. You being the guy that you are from the family that you are doing that, I think, showcased hockey in such a good light as a whole. But also the way you guys have handled it, I think people have fallen in love with your sport. Why do you think the sport of hockey is such a good culture? And like, what do you think that means to the future of the sport?

1:28:03Daniel Jeremiah:Yeah, we were talking about it before, but obviously hockey players are, you know, such nail guns, really. They play through some injuries. Can I start using that nail gun? That's good. They really are. We all put it in our heads immediately. They play through so many things. Games played matter, and they're important. I'm a guy, like, I've gone through my fair share of injuries, and I always hear fans, like, chirping me and, like, being like, but, man, like, there's nowhere I'd rather be than playing. Like, that's what I want to do more than anything. And, yeah, like this thing, like every single hockey player loses teeth.

1:28:37Daniel Jeremiah:That's not even a question. I know it looks from the outside like some big deal, but, you know, it doesn't matter who it is. Every single hockey player is, like, playing through that because it's just whatever. It's more of just like, God damn, like, I've got to go spend time in the dentist chair now. And you were hoping for blood to get to four minutes. Yeah, like, I just honestly, if you watch the clip again, I'm, like, looking down at my teeth. and Quinn's the guy with the puck for the delayed penalty. And he's like looking at me, and then at the TV timeout, he comes up to me. He's like, it's not that bad, man.

1:29:14Daniel Jeremiah:It's only chipped. You're good. You're good. I was like, I'm feeling around in my mouth. I'm like, I don't know, man. But, yeah, back to the hockey culture. Like, it's always about the team first. I imagine football's the same way. Kind of, yo. Like, it's team first. it's all about the boys. It's a great group of guys. Hockey, the common hockey guy is just a solid down-to-earth guy. And, you know, this USA group was an elite, elite group of guys, and it's so much fun to be a part of them. So it was all about the team, all about the boys, and just all about being together and united as one big group and, you know, bringing a gold medal home.

1:29:55Pat McAfee:Okay. So what is the dentist going to do? Just pull it out completely? So you just have no front teeth so everybody knows who you are whenever you show up? I don't know. Why don't we just keep

1:30:02Daniel Jeremiah:this is the amount of dentists reaching out in america you're gonna believe it man it's like

1:30:07Pat McAfee:it's hilarious it really is yeah you got the golden chiclets pal i mean they're certainly going to be looking for something but honestly why i very thankful when you showed up here with that grill i was like yes that is what it is and i said to you are we keeping this forever because it could become like calling card very notable this guy the sport of hockey loses his mouth okay swallows teeth and stick comes back wins the olympic gold medal never question leaving it's like such a good thing for sports and grit and everything like that and i asked you if you're going to keep that and you're like uh it does hurt like hell i mean like currently you're in pain i think what is the plan with the mouth what is your uh going forward honestly right now no plan like

1:30:51Daniel Jeremiah:dude we just had a back-to-back in jersey and pittsburgh then off tost louis to play games tomorrow so i'm kind of just like dialed in again on playing hockey and uh thank you i have no idea like what my dental plan is yet so we'll see that's on the back burner a little bit i think

1:31:08Pat McAfee:we should think about figuring out how not to be in pain or knock it out maybe take a picture take

1:31:14Jack Hughes:a piece of the gold medal gold tooth as the tooth there on the pat mackery show boom there it is

1:31:24Daniel Jeremiah:Yeah, we'll do a lot of this if you'd like us to.

1:31:27Pat McAfee:Bring in a dentist. Yeah, we'll get a dentist in here to come pull that thing out, and then we'll go ahead and get the gold.

1:31:31Jack Hughes:Connor will do it to one of his teeth, too. Yeah, I'll do it to one of mine, too, from your gold medal, though.

1:31:35Pat McAfee:Another thought, if we're doing brainstorming, I like this, and I think I would like a piece of your gold medal as well for doing gold teeth. I didn't know if that was available for all parties or not. What if you do just get one of those little flipper things that covers in there, and then when you're at events and they're like, ladies and gentlemen, Olympic gold medal, Jack Huesen, go, ha, ha. Oh, yeah. You know, take the photo, put it back in there. Crush with the kids, the magic tricks you could do. How about the beer cons? Oh, yeah. They were shot. Oh, yes. Oh, my. Not that you should do that professionally.

1:32:04Pat McAfee:Just ideas. Yeah, if you want us to do more ideas.

1:32:07Daniel Jeremiah:These are good ideas, but I'm going to scratch all of them just to see a good dentist.

1:32:11Pat McAfee:That's fair.

1:32:12Daniel Jeremiah:Yeah, sorry, boys.

1:32:13Pat McAfee:You're jacking. You should do whatever you want. Okay. I mean, I'm bummed out about that, but you can do whatever you want. Go ahead, Ty.

1:32:19Pete Schrager:It's very evident how, and we've talked about it, you know, like the hockey culture in general. All you guys are very humble. We've met a lot of hockey players who are big-time players in the NHL, and the humility always shines through. But has it been evident yet? Holy shit, my life completely changed overnight. I don't know if that's really set in yet, but I saw – and again, this isn't the end-all be-all. It means nothing in the long run. But boom, you shoot up and you have over a million Instagram followers right after it. Everyone who is maybe a tangential hockey fan, like they know who you are now like have you felt that at all or not really yeah of course I mean

1:32:58Daniel Jeremiah:um you definitely feel it like it's definitely it is a different level for sure it's I know people say it's the biggest goal in American hockey in 46 years so I'm not oblivious to that but um it's also like the time where I have to lean into who I am the most ever in my life probably and just stick to who I am. All that other stuff is materialistic, and it's just obviously it's cool and it's great, and the people that have reached out, and it's unbelievable, and I appreciate the support, but right now is the time in my life where I have to be Jack Hughes more than I've ever been in my life, and that's what I'm trying to do.

1:33:36Daniel Jeremiah:So I'm proud of this whole moment. I'm so happy that I was the guy, and like I said, I'm so happy to be a part of that group. But I want to try to, you know, always be humble about, you know, that goal and go about it the right way. All right, we'll brag for you. Seriously, though, but, like, I know I don't want you guys to think I'm some squid that just, like, Squid, okay, nail gun. But any of these others?

1:34:02Megan Keller:Is that from Rocket Power?

1:34:03Daniel Jeremiah:But, yeah, like, trust me, I am so proud. There's been so many people that have reached out, so many, like, family, friends, loved ones. and then on top of that so many athletes that i respect so many cool people and um it's been unbelievable but for this group for for usa hockey for the country i feel like like so many people in the country needed this and yes it just it is such an unbelievable feeling hey tell me about the medal

1:34:30Pat McAfee:of freedom winner presidential medal of freedom winner hallowed buck saw every puck that is that's

1:34:36Daniel Jeremiah:unbelievable man like that is i think that's the highest honor a citizen i watched the clip

1:34:42Pat McAfee:from my understanding where the way it was delivered is hey this is this is the top okay civilian ain't getting anything else other than this and he stood on his head obviously but wasn't there some things being said about him like i can't play in a big game can't do this and then in the biggest game he plays the best game of goalies ever i don't know what you would know hockey a lot obviously yeah so we had you would kind of know i know a little bit yeah yeah right better than me no but we had the those i think there's like a there must be a documentary

1:35:15Daniel Jeremiah:or something coming out the nfl had camera crews in the locker rooms following things but you'll see it at some point but our game our player of the game award at the end of the uh games i won it after the slovakia game and i gave it to hellebuck obviously after the gold medal game and I said Helly in the biggest game Helly was the best player in the world and he really was like he was unbelievable some of those I keep replaying the game in my head I'm like

1:35:42Pat McAfee:how about McAvoy back in with him yeah how the hell did I even score that goal because

1:35:45Daniel Jeremiah:Helly made so many ridiculous saves like Celebrini breakaway McDavid breakaway the stick one there's another one with two minutes left when I was in the box Celebrini had a a rebound play on the power play and it's just like he's thrown in his head and now he's got the highest achievement an American citizen can win and we're all the players are so happy for him and I live on the same lake as this guy in the summer and I just see him fishing all day and he has it on his helmet he has a large mouth he's my goalie in the summer for our summer skates and there'll be mornings where he'll text my guy Matty Williams and he'll be like hey man I can't come in today and we know it's because it's good fishing weather.

1:36:29Daniel Jeremiah:And we're like, you scumbag. And he does that all the time. He loves it. He's on the lake. He's an outdoorsy guy. He's just such a chill guy. And we're so happy that, you know, in the biggest and brightest moments, he could stand on his head and the whole world saw, you know, how special he is. Yeah, he certainly is. Go ahead, AJ.

1:36:50Jack Hughes:Yeah, obviously, end of regulation, it's one-to-one, you guys tied. This guy looks good with a gold medal.

1:36:55Pat McAfee:He's the most athletic guy in the history of the college. I'll give it back to you.

1:36:59Jack Hughes:Don't worry. But I'm wondering, when you get to three on three, how much do you get to work on that? How different is that than the normal regulation play?

1:37:08Daniel Jeremiah:Yeah, it's different.

1:37:08Jack Hughes:It's fun to watch, by the way. I know it's a non-hockey person. It's been happening for a long time, by the way. Yes, I know, but I'm saying it's awesome to watch. It's got to be so different for you guys, I would imagine.

1:37:18Daniel Jeremiah:No, it's so fun. For a guy like me, that's peak game for me just because it's like open ice, highly skilled, fast, like running gun up and go. So even four on four in regulation when guys are in the box and it's four on four, it's more like ISO ball, you know? It's more like other sports maybe because hockey, it's so tight and things happen so fast. But when it's four on four, three on three, it's like more ISO ball. And like guys are like, you can one-on-one someone, like you can man up a little bit more. And that's just like fun hockey because it's like pick and rolls, like man up, get your guy.

1:37:58Daniel Jeremiah:And a little more like basketball, I'd say, and like football with wide receivers. Like when Quinn scored his OT winner against Sweden, he was locked on. He's like, you got to get me the puck on this guy in this spot. Well, I got a good matchup.

1:38:12Pat McAfee:It's so fun. I got a good matchup. Hey, I got a good matchup over here. We all see it. Yeah, that's a beautiful thing.

1:38:19Daniel Jeremiah:But you guys, USA team, you practice that? three is fun and obviously the only time you would practice really is during nhl play just like with your teams and you go to overtime and stakes were definitely higher in overtime yeah in the quarters man that sweden team was so good like we were like we were confident but we were nervous too because sweden's probably the third best tournament team in that tournament so when we had to play them in the quarters we were like like we got to get our shit together fast you know we got to play and that game was a dog fight. Great win by Quinn. And then obviously the stakes are the highest in the gold medal game and they have great players.

1:38:58Daniel Jeremiah:They have the best players in the world. We have highly skilled players and yeah, like anything can happen in overtime.

1:39:05Pat McAfee:Yeah, we're a great soccer team. Yeah. So let's not worry about that. There's a Canadian back in the truck who's going, 58 World Championships back in the truck. It's like, okay. Yeah, we respect that. We do appreciate that. Kachuk said on that podcast that he was told, hey, you're not going on the ice for three-on-three, brother. So he just began. He said he actually started doing the Bucci overtime challenge. Who do we got? He said a couple people got you and that. So you guys know who your three-on-three guys are. Sully told you that going into the tournament.

1:39:33Daniel Jeremiah:You don't know, but you kind of have a feel. Kachuk's are unbelievable players from blue line down. Their whole game would be around the nets. Like, they're so much better than so many guys in the league. Like, right around the net, rebounds, tips, like, all the little things. Like, it's just like same with any other sport. Everyone's got their things they're good at. Like, where I'm like a skater, skill guy, like I can get up and down the rank. They wouldn't put me to play net front in a big moment. Five on three. Yeah, like Matthew Kachuk's that guy because he's one of the best in the world at it.

1:40:06Daniel Jeremiah:So, yeah, they were so funny in the locker room. Like, they're hilarious, those two. And they feed off each other. But there were so many big personalities in that locker room. I don't know what the Canada locker room was, but USA locker room was tight for sure. It was tight where we were focused, but it was also loose where, like, this group's having fun. We believe in each other. We're going to get this shit done. And that's because we have the Kachucks and Jack Eichel and the boys, the McAfee show behind us.

1:40:40Pat McAfee:And American Swagger. Jesus Christ. You're the one that's right. Yeah, yeah. He's trying not to say the Hughes. Yeah, yeah. He didn't want to give himself credit. Classic. Classic. Go ahead, Tom.

1:40:49Megan Keller:But I did want to ask about the locker room because obviously Pat talked about it. Like, we're watching at home and we feel like we're there. First period, boys are buzzing. Like, it felt really good. The second period felt like it was a 20-minute power play for Canada. For sure. Like, the ice was tilted. Between second and third and then third in overtime, what was the locker room like during those times?

1:41:09Daniel Jeremiah:It was fine, you know. Like, that was, like, that was a big push out of them. And it was funny. It was, like, the guys were talking about it when, like, they're, like, yeah, there's going to be a movie. Like, what are they going to call it? And they're, like, the great hold. They're, like, funny stuff just because what happens is, like, McDavid, McKinnon, like, McCarty, these guys are unbelievable. They're going to make their plays no matter what. Like, they're great players. They're going to make things happen. And, yeah, like, it was hard for us in the second, I think. Like, they were kind of just rolling, and the ice was tilted, and they had a couple power plays, I think.

1:41:46Megan Keller:Five on three, yeah.

1:41:46Daniel Jeremiah:Yeah, like, that was, like, a massive kill out of our group. When we killed that, we're like, there's no way we're losing this game. Then Makar scored. Then you're in a 1-1 hockey game. You just got to hold the fourth down. In between the second and third, that's really when Sully was, like, American swagger. You guys got to lean in. We're the best team in this tournament. You got to believe. And we went out in the third. I think we played an okay third, held the fort down. Helly was obviously elite. We had good looks on the foreman and power play. We could have easily won it there. They had good looks on the power play right after that.

1:42:21Daniel Jeremiah:And then, like I said, overtime, going in, we were loose. We were focused, but we weren't tense. And it wasn't like it needs to be me. It needs to be this guy. It was like someone in this group is going to be a hero. That's what Sully said. Someone in this group is someone in this locker room is going to be a hero for the rest of their lives and you know This whole group like we're champions now. We're gold medalists

1:42:53Pat McAfee:Or maybe you did actually that 2 a.m. Chat That's sick when Randy barracks

1:43:01Jack Hughes:Wow, he doesn't like he doesn't respect the AJ, you couldn't put it around his neck? I respect it too much to continue to wear that.

1:43:06Pat McAfee:So what are you going to do? So you look super cool with that in your back pocket. I felt like X Games guy walking up here. Like he's a lanyard. Skateporter. Yeah, I got a lanyard coming out of my back pocket so I can get into this Lucas Oil Stadium. You can just keep that mouth of yours. You'll be able to get in anywhere. But I appreciate the way you went about all of it. I want to let you – the story you told us a little bit earlier about you and Quinn talking whenever you can't sleep. Oh, that was awesome. I'm just thinking about winning this game. Me too, brother. Yeah. It's fucking rolling over.

1:43:35Pat McAfee:Mike Fulton-Reed and Keith Portman. This is weird for you to hear, I would assume. But whenever you said we were loose and everything like that going into overtime, Gumpy, I FaceTimed him as soon as we were going into overtime, and I was like, we win this now, buddy. Yeah, like you should have won that game, and you did not. It gets into three-on-three. He was like, I felt like the hockey gods are about to give – like we're about to win this game. And then I start watching it. And I'm like, wow, has Canada ever been better suited for three-on-three with what McDavid is?

1:44:07Megan Keller:He was going blue line and just full steam ahead.

1:44:09Pat McAfee:And with what McKinnon is. And it's like, wait a minute, this might be like Canada's thing. And then we start watching. You know, fucking dangles. And the boys start cooking. It's like, this isn't the early 90s anymore, pal. We are here. And it was a fun ride. I, Pittsburgh Penguins fan, we beat the shit out of you last night. But we did clap for you, which you certainly deserve. Do you know those are coming? Do you know that's coming? Because you were just standing out there seemingly for the national anthem, and then all of a sudden they start showing equipment manager, and then they get to you, and then Pittsburgh goes crazy for you.

1:44:41Pat McAfee:Obviously, it happened in New Jersey. We assume this will be –

1:44:45Jack Hughes:Yeah, St. Louis next. Oh, yeah.

1:44:47Pat McAfee:Like how much do you know about this before it happens, and what has it been like kind of getting love from people that aren't necessarily just like Devils fans, if that makes sense? Yeah, I mean, we were talking about it off the show,

1:44:59Daniel Jeremiah:But, you know, I had the one, the ceremony in New Jersey, which was unbelievable. Shout out to you. Felt the love like crazy in New Jersey, obviously, where I play. Of course, they're going to do that for me, and I'm so appreciative for that. Then we go to Pittsburgh the next night, and I had an idea they'd do something Olympic-wise because that was their first game. But I don't know. I didn't know how to feel because I know Sid is obviously their guy, and I'm sure they're rooting for him, Canada to do well. but then when they gave me the standing ovation it was just I was so grateful and I just said after the game I said like Pittsburgh is such a great sports town and I'm so proud that you know and I'm so happy and grateful that they like it was unbelievable man to go into an away arena and get a standing ovation man that's I'll remember that for the rest of my life and you know all my friends and my brothers were texting me and they said how cool is that man And I said, that was unbelievable.

1:45:56Pat McAfee:I don't think they're the last ones. No way. I don't know. I don't know. But we tried to get them to do it in here. We do love them.

1:46:04Megan Keller:We do love Sid, but we love American Golds probably a little bit more. Thanks, boys.

1:46:08Daniel Jeremiah:That was a great moment. That was unexpected and super sick. That was special. Go ahead, Con, man.

1:46:15Jack Hughes:Yeah, Wierenski got one, not to your level, but he got one in Boston last night. And one of the moments I think that got everybody was after the game and they go and get Johnny Goudreau's kids. And, you know, the moment of them skating around, I think it was McAvoy, Austin, and one other with his jersey, not to mention the photo with both their kids. But how much of a motivation was, like, for Johnny Goudreau?

1:46:40Pat McAfee:And a little follow-up, he's been with you guys through this entire, like he's a part of the teams you're talking about?

1:46:46Daniel Jeremiah:Yeah, like all these guys have played with Johnny Goudreau. When I was 17, I played at the World Championships. And, you know, I'm obviously a skilled, small American forward. And when I went to the World Championships, Johnny Goudreau, Patrick Kane, Clayton Keller, three guys that I looked up to so much growing up, were all on the same team. So us four, we're all on that 2019 World Championship team. And, like, I spoke with Mr. Goudreau after the Slovakia game. I saw him up in the family room, and I talked to him for 10, 15 minutes. And they're just such a good family. All these guys love Johnny.

1:47:25Daniel Jeremiah:They all played with Johnny for so many years. And he grew up with all these guys, you know, on world junior teams, world championships. Like, Panifin, Kachuk played with him in Calgary for so many years. Like, Wernski was with him in Columbus. Like, all these guys have ties with Johnny. And yeah, that's Larks. Like him and Larks were so close. And all of USA Hockey was so crushed when Johnny Goudreau and, you know, his brother passed away. It's such a sad tragedy. And, you know, for them to include the Goudreau family and for them to be a part of this, man, that's – they should be because this is a team that Johnny would be on.

1:48:05Daniel Jeremiah:And, you know, we're just – we're so sorry for the Goudreau family still and they're always in our hearts. and we're glad that they could be a part of this.

1:48:14Pat McAfee:He was there, though. That McAvoy. I felt like there was some things happening. And then you guys do it. Then you do it after. Yeah, there's, like, so many things. Yeah, wide open. And then it's, like, it did feel like it was. Man. I'm, like, getting emotional. Like, your team, just so many great storylines in there. And then whenever you bring the kids out there and take the picture, it's, like, this is hockey culture. Like, this is literally everything that sports tries to be. So, thank you all for representing and doing that. Now, before you get on the road to St. Louis, which we assume in their barn they're going to be not a bunch of squids and they're going to represent.

1:48:47Pat McAfee:They've got nail guns on over the place. They've got nail guns on over the place.

1:48:50Megan Keller:Will you talk to Bennington at all?

1:48:52Daniel Jeremiah:Probably not. No, I don't know. Oh, you're going to skate by him. I'm sure he's so competitive. He's won a Stanley Cup. Probably I would say a mutual respect there, but I don't think we'll talk.

1:49:03Pat McAfee:Do you think you're going to get targeted from Canadian, like Tom Wilson? Do you got caps any time? Well, he targets everybody. I hope not.

1:49:12Daniel Jeremiah:I don't know. I really don't know. I think that I honestly don't know. I would say that the rivalry USA Canada is very intense right now. Very intense. Like no tummy sticks going on. Write it down. Yes. But I would say that there's a lot of respect between those two teams. Like it's a very intense rivalry, very competitive.

1:49:38Pat McAfee:It's good.

1:49:39Daniel Jeremiah:but I'm actually kind of happy. There's a lot of respect.

1:49:41Pat McAfee:I'm kind of happy you guys didn't win Four Nations because then it would have been the 51st state thing. Oh, yeah. Because they won and then that kind of got quiet. You know, and that was good. I think that was good to kind of quiet the world. I think that was good. You and the boys made us all so incredibly proud. And I know you've been on a little bit of a run. We got a back-to-back, plus we got the White House, plus we got 11, plus we got an elbow room, plus we got, you know, the flight back from Italy, which I assume was a good time, and then the barracks, boys, and then we're in the CAF late night.

1:50:08Pat McAfee:You know, we got this entire thing. Do you think you could have a little dangles and maybe put this hockey ball with this stick into that hole right there for$100 ,000 donation to a charity of your choosing? Really? Yeah. Hell yeah. Okay, okay, okay. Let's go, let's go. Let's do this before we let you get on the road. I'm taking this off, right? Yes, sir, yes, sir. We'll use this one here. It's slanted a bit. Be careful. Listen, I don't know if you're going to be able to handle this right here, okay? Ball hockey. Did you grow up playing any ball hockey or are you strictly ice? Hold on, hold on.

1:50:39Pat McAfee:Don't shoot yet. Hold on, please. We would like to build the moment. Oh, you got pretty good dangles there. Silky, man. Silky, man. What'd you say?

1:50:48Daniel Jeremiah:Charlie McAvoy wants a kick of destiny. I think he said that to you on the FaceTime. Yeah, he said he wanted to do a field goal kick. He wants that. He wants one of those.

1:50:56Pat McAfee:I like the way you boys are trying to angle it to more money. Okay, I do. I really do appreciate that. Okay, have you ever – is this seemingly an easy task for you as an actual hockey player? because we looked at it and we assumed you'd be able to accomplish it, but not 100 % sure because this is an abnormal thing.

1:51:14Daniel Jeremiah:I actually am nervous right now because this looks kind of hard.

1:51:17Pat McAfee:Jack, you scored the fucking gold. But I'm on the Pat McAfee show. I want to make this shot. There is not 26 million people watching. The Olympic gold medals. $100 ,000 to a charity of your choosing if you're able to put that ball into that hole right over there. Jack Hughes, you've made your entire country proud. You've made all of hockey proud. And now you can win$100 ,000 to a charity if you're choosing. Jack, put it in the hole. Oh, my God.

1:51:43Jack Hughes:Never a doubt. That's a nail gun right there. Yeah, it's a nail gun for you. Hey, not a squid at all, dude.

1:51:51Pat McAfee:We love to play tummy sticks sometimes at another day.

1:51:55Megan Keller:Quite a bingo.

1:51:56Pat McAfee:Yeah, what a bingo. There's a little bingo there. Jack, we appreciate the hell out of you, man. Thank you for taking time with us. Thank you for what you did for America. Safe travels to St. Louis, and we can't wait to follow your NHL career, buddy. Ladies and gentlemen, American hero and legend. That was way too – that was a big hold. Thank you, Jack. Ladies and gentlemen, Jack Hughes. Yeah, Jackie. Yeah. Oh, thank you.

1:52:21Megan Keller:That baby Jockle.

1:52:22Jack Hughes:Baby Jockle.

1:52:23Megan Keller:That baby Jocky. We're still live. That baby Hughes-y.

1:52:26Jack Hughes:Yeah, get in the car, man. That baby Hughes-y. Here, go. Get a bang. Here you go, boys. Oh, no.

1:52:39Jack Hughes:Man. Hell yeah. Not a squid lad.

1:52:42Pat McAfee:Not a squid at all. Congrats.

1:52:44Jack Hughes:Awesome man. Yeah.

1:52:46Pat McAfee:Can you take this? They can sign it. Silky mitts man. Ladies and gentlemen, American hero, Jack. Yeah. Yeah. Woo. Was there ever a doubt right there? No. No, no, no.

1:53:01Pete Schrager:He should have moved it 100 yards back. Yeah.

1:53:03Pat McAfee:Here's the replay of him just easily. I was kind of in his way, too. You know, I wanted to put a little pressure. Yeah.

1:53:09Jack Hughes:He stepped left, too. Yeah.

1:53:11Pat McAfee:He knows how to create space. Just like he gets 12. Slovakia. Great space. I'll tell you what. We've had a great time here, Beck. We hope you have enjoyed our three days here at the Combine. We'll be back for Overeem. Oh, we'll be in Arizona with Team USA again. Oh. Be a friend. Tell him something nice. My change of life. Have a great weekend. Goodbye. Okay. Had to get that in there. Okay, let's get to a break because I'm about to pee my pants. On the other side, we've got Megan Keller joining us via FaceTime. Thankful that Jack Hughes was able to fit this into a schedule. Also, Megan Keller fitting this into a schedule.

1:53:42Pat McAfee:She's in the middle of season in Ottawa right now. So we'll catch up with her on the other side. We'll continue to celebrate incredible athletes from the United States of America who make us all proud while also talking about ball. We'll wrap the show up with Matt Patricia, obviously Ohio State defensive coordinator, a man who knows the NFL very, very well. So we got a lot on the other side. We hope you will join us. Be your friend, tell your friend something nice might change your life. Take five!

1:54:08Matt Patricia:But what I wanted to tell you is that my wife is a very good study. The semester, laptop, books, software, phone, internet. So a master is really expensive.

1:54:16Pete Schrager:Oh, tell her, she can get it back.

1:54:19Matt Patricia:Yeah, you mean from the taxes, right? But she doesn't pay. It doesn't matter.

1:54:23Pete Schrager:It's the best. It's a loss-up. It's a loss-up. It's a loss-up. If it works, it's a loss-up. That's it? Safe. VizuSteuer. Get back your money. Now, try it out-up.

1:54:52Pat McAfee:And, by the way, should never leave this person waiting. Okay? We shouldn't have done that. Now, was there some shenanigans with Jack Hughes immediately afterwards? Yeah, blame Jack. Is he an American hero? Okay? Not the only one. We're about to be joined by another one. Who, as soon as he walks anywhere, everybody in this building kind of caught wind that he was here and has traveled down. Turned into a full meet and greet for Olympic gold medal down here. And I thought to myself, this stadium is the perfect place for people that love everything about what Jack and Team USA accomplished. And it wasn't just Jack and Team USA and the men's hockey.

1:55:27Pat McAfee:It was also a lot of other incredible Olympians that showcased American swagger and American greatness. And although the men's hockey team won, they were not the first hockey team to tell the rest of the world, we are the greatest at your sport. Ladies and gentlemen, joining us now from Michigan. Mm-hmm. Hell yeah. Okay, Foxy. Went to school in Boston. A lot of Pittsburgh girls on the team as well. Went to Boston. Now, leader of the Boston fleet, who are seated what in the PWHL?

1:56:00Jack Hughes:Let me think about that. Yeah, they're the number one team in the league.

1:56:05Pat McAfee:We extended the invitation saying, hey, Megan, would love to fly you here to chit-chat with us and do your thing. First answer was, hey, just got out of the Olympics. We got a game in Ottawa. So I am not like what are we what are we doing here? We'd love to join the chit chat. But there's no way I can do that. So much respect for her. So much respect for our team. So much respect for the United States telling Canada that hockey is our sport. Ladies and gentlemen, golden goal scorer in the gold medal game, Megan Keller.

1:56:35AJ Hawk:What's up, guys?

1:56:37Pat McAfee:Hey, yeah. I like that. I like that. It's heavier than we thought. Jack brought his over. It's heavier than I thought. And obviously it weighs nothing. after you absolutely cook a Canadian and then score in overtime. How is life right now for you? Have you guys got a chance to take it all in on how magical the run over in Italy was?

1:56:57AJ Hawk:Yeah, we've gotten a little bit of a chance to take it all in. We were fortunate enough to have like three days together as a group just to celebrate with teammates, friends and family. So still a whirlwind and can't really believe it, but what an honor it was.

1:57:10Pat McAfee:Well, Megan, if you guys do put together something ever, I would just if you can make it public, you know, so the people that would feel obligated to celebrate with American athletes doing great things, United States America could potentially help. So if you guys do, we can let you know.

1:57:28AJ Hawk:Thank you. Please do. We can definitely let you know.

1:57:32Pat McAfee:Hey, I don't know if you guys are going to want to compete with the men's team, but we already know the number now with where the men's were. And I assume what the women can do in the hockey world is obviously spectacular. Let's talk about that moment. Let's talk about winning it. Third time America wins that in the women's hockey division. Playing against Canada, obviously America, Canada, and hockey right now feels like is going to be it. Is there a moment after that when it goes in where there is a legitimate thought like, hey, this is what it's supposed to be. America is supposed to be the best hockey country in the world.

1:58:03Pat McAfee:What are your thoughts and what are your team's thoughts as it kind of settles in in the moment that you are now the Olympic gold medal winners?

1:58:10AJ Hawk:Yeah, it was crazy. Honestly, the rivalry is like one of the coolest in sports, U.S. versus Canada, especially on our side. We get to know them very well throughout the year. We play them a ton. We don't like each other very much. So to have that as a gold medal matchup is it's what you dream of. And as soon as that puck went in, I think our team was so excited to celebrate. We had an incredible tournament. I think one of the best American teams to be put on the ice on the Olympic stage. So to cap it off that and also with our captain, Hillary Knight, breaking records in the gold medal game to send us to OT, doesn't get better than that.

1:58:44Pat McAfee:Okay, you said one of the best teams. You have to be humble to the teams of the past. You guys are the best team. I haven't done the research. I should do more. Best team we've ever put on the ice. Thank you so much for allowing us to celebrate alongside of you. Megan, just learning of you over the Olympics. 100 % on me. We'll follow you forever. Boston Fleet, that's our team. Let's go. Boston Fleet is our team. Learning about this all right now. The PWH. Go ahead.

1:59:09AJ Hawk:We take new fans, so you're more than welcome.

1:59:12Pat McAfee:Thank you, because there is some people actually that would say we don't want new fans to me specifically, and I am thankful that you are inviting me in there. So you just absolutely cooking with the dangles there. Is that that's what I should expect from Megan Keller all the time? Like are we we cook people all day on the like what what is if you were to describe your day is that your game or just anything that needs to be done is Megan Keller hockey.

1:59:39AJ Hawk:Anything that needs to be done. Honestly I got to be honest I'm a defenseman so I don't find myself at the far blue too often. And yeah the moment called and Taylor Heisey made an incredible pass up all three zones and I don't know I was just playing hockey at that point. You just go back to when you were a kid and dreaming of those moments. I didn't really think about it. It just kind of blacked out in the moment.

2:00:02Pat McAfee:That's one of the greatest blackouts in the history. Yeah, yeah. You know, because we've seen bad ones. Oh, yeah. Especially last night I saw a couple walking around Indianapolis. It was not great. Tell me about the team chemistry. You talk about we play, obviously, with Canada, with the PWHL. We just had Jack on. He said he had a moment with you in the CAF 1-1-30 before you guys were about to go back out where he gave you a big hug and said he was proud of you. It felt like their team very tight because they've been together for a while. Will you describe your guys' team? Is it similar for the women's hockey team for the USA Hockey?

2:00:30Pat McAfee:And how would you describe what the locker room was like over there?

2:00:33AJ Hawk:Yeah, we have a really tight-knit group. We've been, a lot of us have been on this journey since four years ago when the Olympic quad starts. We have multiple camps throughout the year. A lot of us have played in college or professionally together. And you go through a lot as a team. And so that's the best part about playing hockey. Like I feel like it's like the biggest team sport ever. And so when you were working something for your whole life and you get to celebrate with your teammates, like there's nothing better than that.

2:01:03Pat McAfee:Yeah, it's beautiful. Sports are the greatest. Okay, sports are the absolute greatest. My daughter, two and a half, whenever she, you know, watches this live, she was watching in real time. I don't know if she 100 % got it. Sure. Yeah, she got it. She saw how happy I was. You know, she saw how happy I was. So she got pumped up. she's going to be in sports definitely because what sports teach women's hockey is so much I think every time we get a chance to watch it we love it what were you doing as a kid can I can I get like the game plan of what I need to do to Mackenzie so like what is the the path for women's hockey here obviously from Michigan you go and play in Boston College now there's the PWHL and Olympics is this a because the boys I know they move and go do stuff like what is the women's hockey path to this point as we try to learn more and hopefully little Mackenzie McAfee has got some dangles that we could potentially see in the future.

2:01:53AJ Hawk:Yeah, let's get some skates on her. Honestly, it's a different day and age now. When I was growing up, I played every sport under the sun and I didn't really fully take hockey like as my number one sport probably until high school. I was playing softball, baseball, basketball. And then I think once I saw women's hockey on the Olympics on TV I was like that's what I want to do that's my goal and that's when I think hockey

2:02:21Pat McAfee:was like number one for me yeah thank God you did that Boston Connor has a question for you yeah

2:02:30Jack Hughes:Megan I'm a huge fan of the fleet now very excited to follow can we talk about the goalie Aaron Frankel both for the fleet and Team USA I believe she's the first goalie ever to shut out Canada from America and also her numbers overall in the entire Olympics were ridiculous. How awesome is it, you know, playing in front of someone like that? And is it also kind of a relief that if you ever do screw up, which probably never happens, that she has your back right behind you?

2:02:57AJ Hawk:Oh, it's happened plenty of times, and she's already saved my ass. She's the best goalie in the world, like hands down. And she's done it every single day at practice. She's done it in the professional league. So for her to do that on the Olympic stage, like it's no secret to us. But for the world to see that, it was pretty cool because she just stands on her head. I think in the gold medal game, she had like three off the head that she just saved for us. Like she won us that game for sure. Everybody talks about the golden goal, but it was Aaron Frankel.

2:03:28Pat McAfee:Yeah, this is the hockey culture coming in. Everybody, let's go ahead and pass celebrations on to everybody else. It's such an incredible sport. The culture is so magnificent. We're learning about the PWHL, and there's going to be PWHL fans who are going to be pissed that I just said that I am. But I'll tell you what, Minnesota Frost got a good team. Oh. Oh, out there in Seattle, Vancouver, there's a team. Oh, man. Ottawa, there's a team. Yeah, the Boston, the Toronto Scepters, oh, not a bad squad. The New York Sirens are obviously. Tell us what we need to know about the PWHL. We want to support.

2:04:02Pat McAfee:We would like to follow. We would like to enter. Are we at the beginning? Where are we at in the season right now? And when are these games and how can we watch them? We would like to support the hell out of everything that you're doing, strictly because of how good you made us all feel from so many miles away. Can you tell me about the PWHL a little bit and Boston Fleet winning the whole damn thing? Is that just what I need to know?

2:04:25AJ Hawk:We love that. We'd love that. And if the Boston Fleet wouldn't have a Walter Cup party, we'll be sure to send you the bar tab. I like that.

2:04:33Pat McAfee:I like being a part of these celebrations. And then you guys send me a ring or whatever we win. But on that, can you talk about the PWHL a little bit?

2:04:41AJ Hawk:Yeah, for sure. I mean, all the players that everybody was watching on the Olympic stage, they all play in the PWHL. It's the best league for women's hockey. And right now we're about halfway through our season. So it's a big stretch right here for us. Our standings, three points up for grabs every night. So you can walk away three or zero. And so teams go up and down very quickly. It's like always competitive. The parity throughout our league is pretty competitive. So any team can win on any given night. Like, there's no easy games. There's no nights off. So, yeah, Ottawa tomorrow will be a big one for us.

2:05:19Pat McAfee:Yeah, I mean, there's no easy game unless you've got Megan Keller, aren't you?

2:05:22AJ Hawk:Yeah, unless you've got Aaron Frankel.

2:05:25Pat McAfee:Okay, and who else do we need to know on the Boston fleet? Because we're going to buy some jerseys, I assume. Oh, yeah. Obviously, you already made us. And or Fanatic. But who should we know in the PWHL, you think? Who are some other names that we need to recognize and respect?

2:05:40AJ Hawk:Alina Mueller. She's Switzerland. She scored the OT winner for the bronze medal. She also was at the Olympics when she was, like, 15 years old. Crazy. And had the game winner. So she's incredible. My D partner, Haley Wynn, she's a rookie lighting it up for us. I don't know. I'm just kind of sticking to my team, really. Yeah, that's fine. I see you actually looking around.

2:06:03Pat McAfee:I like you.

2:06:05Pete Schrager:Ty has a question for you, Megan. Yeah, Megan, obviously you've won two Olympic gold medals, but with this last one being as you did score the golden goal, I mean, I know you said you had a couple days with your teammates where you got to celebrate, but how difficult is it to kind of just strip away all that euphoria and everything that you've done and be like, okay, now I've got to go back to my real job. Whereas it kind of seems like you guys, when you win an Olympic gold medal and seeing what it did for the country, It kind of seems like you guys deserve to have like several months off. How, how difficult is it kind of just being like, okay, that's over and done with.

2:06:39Pete Schrager:That was awesome. Now I got to get back into the day in and day out of what I actually do.

2:06:46AJ Hawk:Yeah, honestly, like I didn't know what to expect. Cause in past Olympics, like we have had time off and gone on trips and whatnot, but I was so excited to get back to Boston. Knowing where our team sits at right now, like we have a pretty special group and I think just, It's an incredible time in sports and women's hockey, like, to garner that viewership and all the juice that the Olympics brought into the PWHL. Like, you're going to see the same players every night now being opponents. Like, we're going to go against our U.S. teammates, and it's going to be a battle. So I'm excited. It was pretty easy, honestly.

2:07:21AJ Hawk:The first two practices maybe were a little hard after the week off and the celebrations, but we're back to it.

2:07:28Pat McAfee:Yeah, I think the boys are still struggling. Yeah, I think. Rightfully so, by the way. You win an Olympic gold medal. Yeah, you deserve to have a little bit of a – we won't call it a hangover. Yeah, a couple runaways. A little carryover. Yeah, sure. A little bit of a – it was a little bit of a runaway. Yeah, a little bit. It was a little bit of a runaway. So you guys hate the men's team? Is that why? We asked him, Jack, if he hates you guys. He said he doesn't. That was weird.

2:07:51Jack Hughes:Yeah.

2:07:51Pat McAfee:You guys hate the men's team? Just so we can clarify that. And we will tell them we hate them, too, for you if you would like us to do that.

2:07:58AJ Hawk:No, we don't hate the men's team. Yeah, it was true. what like Jack said seeing him in the calf after I scored congratulated me and then it was pretty cool after they won all of us I think sat in the calf till like 4 a.m. until our buses were leaving just chopping it up with our medals hanging out so it was pretty special and first time ever that men's and women's for the U.S. have won gold together like you can't write that up any any

2:08:25Pat McAfee:better we are teams of destiny yeah you definitely were and you are certainly something we will be very loud and cocky about you know we did nothing to actually help but i want to let you know we're going to talk a lot of shit on your behalf megan we appreciate you doing that and also i love the fact that they're simpatico amongst uh america's greatest athletes who just conquered the world that's how it's supposed to be sports are the absolute greatest megan and what you all did was showcase the greatness of the sporting world tone has a question for you megan yeah megan i asked

2:08:56Megan Keller:Jack about how they felt going into overtime and he said they actually felt pretty loose they had they had the rallying cry from Mike Sullivan of American swagger how did you guys feel between the third and the overtime in the locker room before you went into the you know the golden goal situation

2:09:12AJ Hawk:yeah honestly I think our group got less and less nervous as time winded down which is crazy like you're getting under two minutes when we put in that goal and I think when Hill scored that one just the feeling in the locker room was like, okay, we're winning this one. There's no chance we're not coming away with gold here. So it was pretty calm, to be honest. Do you guys chirp? Yeah, we chirp. We've got some good chirpers on our team. Abby Murphy, I don't know if you've seen her game, but you would like her actually as a player. She's fun to watch, and she backs it up.

2:09:47Pat McAfee:Okay, I like that. So we are talking shit. I like that we're doing that. Love it. Okay, so we are allowed to talk shit. See, we're just trying to learn this all. You know, everybody could get mad at us for everything that we say. What I would like to happen is to openly talk shit and not offend anybody. Boston Fleet about to win this entire thing. Easy. And when's the next international tournament?

2:10:10AJ Hawk:World Championships. They just got moved. I think they're in November now. Boom.

2:10:17Pat McAfee:Hey, let's go. Yeah. Okay, Megan, let's go and do this. Thank you so much for taking time with us today. We know you're very busy. We know you're getting back into your PWHL schedule, and we can't wait to follow along. We hope you'll come join us soon, and the next time it'll be in person, we need you to do one of these charity shots that Jack just did. Done. I'll be there. And please, please make it public if you guys are about to go run up a tab somewhere. Okay? Please do that. We would love to help and assist in good times. That's what we like. We like a lot of good times. We like earning good times.

2:10:48Pat McAfee:We like being a part of good times, and we like good people having great times, which is exactly what you all would be. So please keep us updated, and thank you so much for what you did for our country.

2:10:58AJ Hawk:Thank you. Thanks for having me, guys.

2:11:00Pat McAfee:Can we say that gold medal one more time?

2:11:05Pat McAfee:Yeah! Okay, go beat the hell out of Ottawa tomorrow night. Good luck the rest of the way. Please tell everybody we said congratulations. Thank you for joining us.

2:11:16AJ Hawk:I will. Thanks, guys.

2:11:17Pat McAfee:Ladies and gentlemen, Megan Keller.

2:11:18AJ Hawk:Yeah, Megan!

2:11:21Pat McAfee:I thought they hated each other. I'm so confused. I was told that. I saw it like articles. Because I was ready to kill the Benz team right there. Yeah. What's so funny, AJ? For honor. You don't want to do that?

2:11:36Jack Hughes:For honor. I dabbled, but I didn't get too caught up in the whole back and forth in the political situation that got thrown into this. Because you were on a cruise ship. I tried to bathe in the gold.

2:11:45Pat McAfee:You know, so what I've learned in the American-Canada disagreements I somehow find my way to the middle. And the buying of the tab felt like just this is an obvious move. This is what should happen. Thought somebody else was going to do it. That obviously turns into me being a sexist, racist, everything like that, which is really cool. It's really cool that that happens by a small amount of people that we cannot let.

2:12:12Megan Keller:They're having a bit of a melter.

2:12:13Pat McAfee:Yeah, basically every day of their life seemingly looking for melters to have. A bit of a melter, yeah. But we would like to let them know that you would never outweigh the happiness and the unity that sports bring. So you can all eat shit.

2:12:26Pete Schrager:Yeah. Absolutely. It's still coming today. There's going to be a. Which is fine. Don't believe what you heard, okay? Make no mistake. The men and women of Team USA, they hate each other. I don't care what you said today. No, but they just said it. I don't care. They hate each other. They fucking hate each other.

2:12:42Megan Keller:Jack and Megan, they're political pawns.

2:12:47Pat McAfee:don't believe a word they say well how about this though i like the fact that like learning this from we're learning about the women's hockey team as the olympics happened you know like and also we'll follow them after how this went this pwhl we've seen highlights we learned about it women's hockey is very they got it is a incredible sport how about them saying we hate canada too yeah yeah and the men like it's very intense right now not a tummy sticks happening it's an actual it's great I think it's great for the sport.

2:13:16Jack Hughes:It's great for moving forward that there is some real heat between them.

2:13:19Pat McAfee:Yeah, I agree. And, you know, Sidney Crosby gets hurt in the Olympics, and he's out for four weeks.

2:13:23Megan Keller:Those scumbags.

2:13:25Pat McAfee:Sidney Crosby, obviously a goat. He'll probably heal quick. That guy looks really cool right there. I don't know who he is, but he's wearing a jacket.

2:13:31Megan Keller:He is cool.

2:13:32Pat McAfee:But when Sidney Crosby gets hurt, okay, I immediately look in the mirror, and I say, hey, you, me, one of the loudest people about these NHL owners being dipshits whenever they banned the NHL players from the Olympics. Now, granted, I do think if you see what happened with the Olympic hockey and people getting interested in hockey and everything, my point was pretty solid at the time when I was very loud and we were clipping it and sending it to the NHL saying, hey, this is the most short-sighted decision you have ever made. There's a lot of people that we know in the sports world who don't watch hockey because they didn't come from a hockey town.

2:14:08Pat McAfee:And whenever the Olympics are, they watch. TJ Oshie doing this thing. They know. They remember these moments. The NHL banned their players from going to the Olympics. I thought it was very stupid. And they're like, well, we're paying them millions and millions of dollars. And then they go over there. If they were to get hurt, what does that mean for our team? So as I watched Sidney Crosby get bent like an Auntie Anne's pretzel on the ice as a Pittsburgh Penguins fan, I immediately go, why is he even playing in this? Which is certainly what the ownership was also thinking. I think a lot of people were.

2:14:39Pat McAfee:But overall, these international games that don't have any money on the line, the sense of pride that comes from it is a necessity for society, I think. And hockey does it. I think basketball does it as well. Whenever we talk about these Olympics, there's some team sports that happen that bring us all together, and hockey is certainly one of them. And even if people don't have a clue what's going on, there's people I've heard Stephen A. Smith say this before, and I think obviously he's a very intelligent person, so he's continued to learn it all. he said what I know about hockey the puck is black okay that's what Stephen A said and then there's other people that are like uh they're ice they do the thing like people that don't know hockey right and then they watch that and they're like wait a minute this sport's amazing and that gold medal game between Kaling and USA both of them going to overtime with the intensity that it had and the rivalry that it had great for hockey and we would like to continue to pound the drum like we have because i'm from pittsburgh hockey time hockey is awesome and this is a good thing everything that's about to happen i think for the pwhl which we certainly did not know enough about and then the nhl i think on the following of this i think we got really good things happening for the sport i think international play really matters and showcases that type of

2:15:52Megan Keller:shit and we can't be losing sydney crosby no that's kind of how i feel anyone else would have

2:15:56Pat McAfee:been fine yeah I'd be okay okay with literally anybody yeah just said we can't as soon as it happens to sit I just think to myself why is this guy oh because I we and then you think hockey's in a great space a great spot right now and uh it's only going to continue to do that thank you to Megan for joining us once again

2:16:18Pat McAfee:offered offered yep and she just like I can't miss more I love the answer I love the answer

2:16:26Jack Hughes:It's the definition of hockey. It's like that's why the Olympics are so cool because if you're not someone who follows hockey, once you start watching it and learning everything about it, like Jack, he's losing two teeth on the ground and then picking them up and then continuing to play. You know, Abby Murphy, like Megan just mentioned, like talking shit to Canada. They're being real heat in sports. Like we always talk about in the NFL, you almost don't want the jersey swap. You want that beef. Yeah, you want the Seahawks all in on themselves. You kind of want that beef between screw everybody else.

2:16:56Jack Hughes:It's just us bunker mentality. And hockey has that in every single team in the NHL. And then when it gets to country, it's just amplified even more just because of those rivalries. Yeah, and I – shout out to all of them.

2:17:09Pat McAfee:The amount of effort and time and commitment it takes to do the hockey.

2:17:15Megan Keller:From five years old on.

2:17:16Pat McAfee:At 4 a.m. It's an early morning sport. Yeah, 4 a.m. in the morning. Parents. He talked about his parents. they're driving this i mean phil's in the middle of this with his kids he's got to play hockey it's like ice time comes at a certain time the amount of work you have to be to be in good enough shape to be able to play hockey because that is just like literally sprinting the entire time it's such a cool sport such a great sport and obviously whenever we're the best in the world at it it's better yeah okay just like everything else yeah now yeah let's move on i didn't i didn't want to say like if you guys see me getting murdered out there which is going to happen because jack was here and megan wasn't if you guys could please just maybe respond to this and say that we because as soon as megan tells us i can't because i got to do morning skate didn't want to put it into her life okay didn't want to put it in her life because it's not her fault at all she's doing the right thing just being like hey i'm gonna die here you know i'll set up a bot that

2:18:13Megan Keller:responds to everybody you're gonna need a few of them i think you're gonna need a few of them

2:18:16Pat McAfee:there's gonna be a lot of people coming after us for this and i would like to let megan keller know i can't wait until they tell us where they're headed we should just take the jimmy's approach and just say fuck off so that was one of my trending talk i looked up it looks on my phone

2:18:27Megan Keller:while i was going to the bathroom they've done it twice now this past week i think i think they've done a lot more oh yeah yeah no i agree but i think they've been letting a lot and shout out to jimmy's by the way the best i mean they did ruin uh a lot yeah they had the cicada parade

2:18:39Pat McAfee:from that shit city but yeah and if you were to learn their story which i think uh the united BUSINESS BUREAU IS LOOKING INTO THEIR STORY. DAD STARTS A RESTAURANT AS AN IMMIGRANT. COMES OVER. DIES, PASSES AWAY WHILE TWO BOYS ARE IN HIGH SCHOOL AND THEN THEY'RE TASKED WITH CARRYING ON THE BUSINESS AS HIGH SCHOOLERS AND THEN THE WAY THEY GO ABOUT GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY AND BUILDING A BUSINESS AND THEN EMPLOYING MOM IS WORKING FOR THEM AND BUILDING A BAKERY AND BECOMING A PART OF THE BALTIMORE LIKE FABRIC BASICALLY OF THE ENTIRITY. IT'S LIKE AMERICAN DREAM STORY happening. And then it's like, oh, we want to attack this people, though.

2:19:16Pat McAfee:It's like, I don't know if we're attacking the right things. I don't know if we're attacking the right things, but I would like to let everybody know that Jimmy's boys are built for it. Yes, they are. Minidonkus. That's not his name. It's Minidakis. That's not his name either. Minidakis Papalopoulos. I don't like how Greek-ish you guys are. I don't like how Greek-ish you're here. Oh, don't you, Bippity-Boppity? Hey, I'm 0.01 % Italian. Jimmy's, keep Keep that Twitter finger rolling, bro. Malkadonkulus. Just let it. Malkadonkulus. It's Malkadonkulus. Malkadonkulus. I'm sick of everything you guys are doing right now.

2:19:50Pat McAfee:Ladies and gentlemen, join us. Andy's his son. Mellonakis? They do have the greatest crab cakes on there. Isn't he like 60 years old? No. B on my head. Mellonakis? Yeah. Yes. I think he's been. I don't know. I think he's the next bachelor. He wasn't a kid.

2:20:04Jack Hughes:Sorry, brother. He was like 40 when he was a kid. Wasn't he a rapper? He was a rapper. Yeah, he was. There's peas on my head, but don't call me a pea head.

2:20:09Megan Keller:Yeah, it was one of the best bars you've ever heard.

2:20:11Pat McAfee:We just looked it up, which, by the way, it makes sense because this might be the case, but don't do it. He's 50. Congrats to him living out there. Andy, I don't think any of us are still doing it. I assume Andy Milonakis still has his fastball. He does not own Jimmy's Seafood in Baltimore. No. What Jimmy's Seafood in Baltimore owns, famous, is the greatest crab cake on earth. They ship nationwide, and it arrives like it was just there. And their bakery is outrageous.

2:20:39Megan Keller:They got good steak. But they still steak.

2:20:41Pat McAfee:I bought 100 shots there walking into it the first time. Met John and me. He walks however. What? Yeah. Let's go ahead and do this, brother. He's like. You got it. Let's go. Let's go have a good time. And ever since then, I have drawn inspiration from them. Sitting in the pocket and building something that's impossible. I like that a lot of people are learning about them right now, strictly because they are being exactly who they've been this entire time. This is the greatest country on earth. Let us tell you our American dream story. And if you believe and buy in and have a good team, magic can happen.

2:21:20Pat McAfee:And if you want to talk shit, fuck you.

2:21:22Jack Hughes:Yeah, war ready.

2:21:23Pat McAfee:All the time.

2:21:24Jack Hughes:Yeah.

2:21:25Pat McAfee:All the time. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a man who might be drawing up the war plans at some point.

2:21:30Megan Keller:Yeah.

2:21:31Pat McAfee:This guy's a wizard. Yep. This guy's a super genius. This guy's Super Bowl champion, obviously, but now defensive coordinator for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ladies and gentlemen, Matt Patricia. Matty! Matty! Come on! I like that. I like the Travis stuff.

2:21:51Jack Hughes:Hey, he went the wrong way. How you doing, Coach? It's an honor. Sweet.

2:21:56Pat McAfee:I don't want to judge him, but he did go the wrong way. But he did die above everybody. Hey, what's up, Coach? Good to see you. Good to see you, Coach. Thank you for joining us, man.

2:22:06Pete Schrager:Yeah, thanks for having me on. You guys are so good to me. I appreciate it. Let me come on. We're big fans of yours. Well, you guys are the best. You have been good to us.

2:22:14Pat McAfee:Thank you. You've been very good to us. That's easy. We're big fans of yours. Well, I appreciate it. You're a big football guy. Obviously, I knew about you for a long time because of your relationship with Adam Vinatieri way back in the day.

2:22:23Pete Schrager:Yes, congratulations to Adam Vinatieri. I mean, he's so awesome.

2:22:27Pat McAfee:Actually, yeah, congratulations to Adam Vinatieri. He just killed a – sent me a picture of this thing. An oscillated turkey down there. Wow. Mexico, right? It was unbelievable. He's amazing. With a bow, right? What kind of turkey? Oscillated turkey. It looks like a peacock a little bit.

2:22:45Megan Keller:I don't know. So it's not like a gobble-gobble turkey?

2:22:47Pat McAfee:I think it does gobble-gobble, but, boy, that thing got a little bit of shine. All the turkeys don't count.

2:22:52Megan Keller:All the peacocks. Yeah, it was. Is that what they eat for Thanksgiving down there?

2:22:55Pat McAfee:Oh, good question. And he was down there when I think a lot of things – Yeah. I was like, did you think about picking him? Oh, yeah. And he would, by the way. Yeah, that would be.

2:23:04Pete Schrager:You know what? I mean, he'd be a tough one to mess with because he's going to, you know, he shot a few things, so he'd be all right. And he would, I think he would rather die than lose.

2:23:12Pat McAfee:And he does like to hunt the most dangerous game. That is. He's like, yeah, I guess this would be a good question for you. All those years in New England, do you think the separator was that everybody on that team, and maybe it was Bill's ability and maybe it was the team's ability, just so incredibly competitive at everything. and buy in at everything. Like, Vinatieri is the type of guy, and if he was playing checkers or chess against you and you were about to win, accidentally flip table. Were you going to win? Maybe. We didn't finish the game. Like, that type of competitive edge.

2:23:42Pete Schrager:All the time. And I used to, my first year in New England, I ran the special teams cards. You know, Brad C was our special teams coordinator. And, you know, that's how Adam and I got really close because you'd be standing in the kickoff special teams look. You know, they're trying to get the return set up. and Adam's like, all right, I'm going to boot this one here. And, like, he's just trying to scheme up to beat, you know, the kickoff return unit. And then all of a sudden, like, you know, Rodney Harrison walks in and he, like, taps some young guy and goes, get out. You know, and then so now he's in the huddle and I'm like, ooh, this is about to get live right now.

2:24:11Pete Schrager:Yeah. I'm rolling. So I'm holding up the card and he's talking to Adam. And Adam, like, he's probably supposed to kick it, like, deep left. He goes deep right. Rodney goes right through everybody, blows up the whole thing. He's yelling at the return team, this is – you better get a new return. I'm like, this is unbelievable. So let's talk about that.

2:24:29Pat McAfee:I think that culture, obviously, up in New England and the Patriot Way, you're a massive piece of that. You have a lot of success. You got trophies. You got rings because of it. And one of the greatest defensive calls in the history of the sport. Thank you. You take that and you join Ohio State here. Obviously, there's other stops in the road, but you're now at Ohio State. Yeah. Did you feel like there was a professionalism, I guess, to that Ohio State defense? Because we saw what just happened yesterday, and it's outrageous.

2:24:55Jack Hughes:Backerhood. Yeah. Backerhood. They're on a different planet.

2:24:58Pat McAfee:But they're openly talking about how you have assisted them through this entire combine process. Now, granted, I don't know if you're teaching them how to run. You can definitely – you can tell the athleticism that I have,

2:25:09Pete Schrager:so obviously I did all those things.

2:25:11Pat McAfee:But can you tell me a little bit about if New England and Ohio State compare to each other or what messages you're delivering to the boys to get them ready for an NFL situation? How has that kind of been good for you or bad for you maybe as you're taking this?

2:25:23Pete Schrager:No, it's really been great. Certainly, you've got to start with Coach Day and the culture and kind of the guys and the people that he has in the building. And certainly on the defensive side, you felt it right away when you walk in the meeting room. And certainly the linebackers, but Caleb Downs, and just so many great guys, kids that you're coaching. So you feel that competitiveness, and you feel that culture of just competing every single day. But it was when I walked in there and saw those two linebackers. What are those?

2:25:51Jack Hughes:I know, yeah.

2:25:52Pete Schrager:I'm like, I know what to do with these guys. Why don't you guys give up one first down in like four weeks or something like that? Yeah, you know, and that's always the funniest is when, you know, defense. You're playing. You don't want to give up anything, right? And then maybe you make a couple substitutions. Maybe you're up by a lot of scores. And now at first, and I'm like a lunatic because we just gave up one first down in the game. We ruined it.

2:26:11Pat McAfee:Yeah. That's funny. Dan Lanning, what was that in the playoff game?

2:26:16Megan Keller:He put his stars back in. Yeah, they were up a bunch.

2:26:19Pat McAfee:That's JMU. We did. Took his starters out. And then all of a sudden it was going bad. He was like, nope, this is not how this shit's going. That's right. Get your boys back up.

2:26:26Pete Schrager:We had the same thing. I think it was later in the season. We hadn't given up a 100-yard rusher in like 10 games. And so it's getting close. And I'm looking at the scoreboard. And I'm looking at the head coach going, can we get that other group back out there? I'm like, not really about stats. But let's just shut this up. Hey, guys, get your take your risk, get your goals back on you.

2:26:45Pat McAfee:History matters, though, Coach. We know that. Go ahead, AJ.

2:26:48Jack Hughes:Yeah, I guess, Coach, what were you able to, like, you got to Ohio State, and you know the expectations there. Coach Day says all the time, hey, we can't lose. We can't have a bad day. You came in your defense just off the charts from the jump and also replacing a ton of studs. Now, obviously, you have other studs in line, but you don't know what they can do yet, really. I guess what were you able to do schematically with your defense? How was it able to be so successful? And how did these guys, how did they take to it to where they were able to execute so well?

2:27:11Pete Schrager:Yeah, and give credit to them. The players, when I got there, certainly change is always hard. And we had lost all those great players the year before. And a lot of guys, the interesting thing was they just hadn't played. You know, they didn't have the game snaps. So really through the spring, I was like, all right, we're going to teach conceptually. You know, we're going to kind of talk about structures, whether it's coverage in front. And it was almost like I kind of like tricked them a little bit. I was like, oh, it's really not that much. It's just this front. It's just this coverage. And then by the time we got to the end of the spring, you know, and I kind of listed it, I was like, all right, look, we can move this with this and kind of put all the pieces together, you know, like I do like a chessboard.

2:27:44Pete Schrager:And then you just saw their eyes light up like, oh, wait, we just learned a whole bunch and didn't even didn't even realize it, you know. And that's what made the multiplicity that we were able to use throughout the course of the season. And it really was just figuring out what do the guys do well. So it's not about scheme. It's not about plays. It's really about what do they do well and how do I put them in that position so that they can go play fast and aggressive. And certainly you've got a guy like Caleb Downs who can do everything. So it's like, hey, we can put them here. We can put them there.

2:28:10Pete Schrager:We can have a disguise and go here. Or Arvell or Sonny and kind of just keep mixing those pieces. And I think they just are competitive and they're super smart, super great, and they just loved it. So it really grew from there. I think people ask, like, oh, is that what you ran in New England? I'm like, well, no, it was really just the Buckeye defense. That was our defense that grew based on the guys that we had last year.

2:28:28Pat McAfee:Okay, so everybody was saying you're an NFL guy, figuring out college offenses. This is, like, what happens here. You get Matt Patricia taking on college offenses. This is what's going to happen. Do you think that your guys are prepared for an NFL defense with the shit that you were calling? Because that's all they kept saying is, like, this is an NFL defense playing against this. And then you got 4-4, 4-4 across the board. and Caleb down to Josh Chapman, who is a teammate of mine at Indianapolis Colts, nose tackle, D-tackle. He's now working at Alabama. When Caleb was freshman, I think it was his first game, we were down there, Chapman came out to me.

2:28:59Pat McAfee:Me and Chap's still tight. He's one of the greatest human beings in his, a gigantic, deep, old Southern guy, beloved. And we asked him, and he was like, gold jacket, as soon as he got here. That guy is a gold jacket guy. So, obviously, you had incredible talent at Ohio State. You're going to have that. But do you think with the way you were playing and the shit you were doing, that the transition for them into an NFL defense is going to, I don't want to say easy, but do you think these guys, because of running your defense, are in a much better position maybe than other places?

2:29:29Pete Schrager:I mean, I really hope so. You know what I mean? That's the whole goal. I say it all the time. Listen, those two linebackers are 6 '5", 6 '4". I'm like, you're going to get in the NFL. Someone's going to, you know, whether I'm here or not, it doesn't really matter. You're going to get in there. But how do you stay in the NFL, right? Because we've all seen that, you know, guys that either go early or guys that don't even get drafted at all. It's such a different game. So my whole thing to them was like, we're just going to teach a little bit differently. We're going to teach more conceptually. We're going to learn, you know, the bigger picture.

2:29:56Pete Schrager:And I think that is one thing that will help them as they, you know, have to go into those new locker rooms and see those new schemes. And right when the season ended, you know, I told all those kids, I said, listen, we're going to we're going to go on a schedule. We're going to meet once a week. We're going to Zoom. We're going to review all the schemes. I said, I'm going to put you through the combine interviews. we're gonna you know meet individually we're gonna talk about you know your workouts and your drills and I said you you have to get an advantage now you have to be ready to go and they loved it like they we just met every week and you know you miss them right like it season ends like it's over all sudden and like you miss seeing all their faces so it was great to get on zoom and just keep that relationship going and Arvell last night when he got done we were talking and he's like man he's like I didn't really realize how much we had done and learned and you know that's all you want you just want them to have that chance to be successful yeah it feels like that's probably good for recruiting too yeah that might help now i know you guys are in indiana's big 10 right now so you guys are gonna have to go back to the fucking drawing board yeah coach patriots fan so thank

2:30:53Jack Hughes:you for your service thank you thank you thank you very much beloved up there appreciate still but going from the pros to college was there anything that surprised you does it feel much more professional nfl type in college and was that something that going into it you're aware of or is it's still, you know, two separate games, you know, still football and football, but the level isn't there just yet in college.

2:31:18Pete Schrager:Yeah. I think, you know, on the field, probably my biggest is the hashes. Like, what did we do to the hashes in college football?

2:31:24Pat McAfee:We're just –

2:31:24Pete Schrager:It's so different. That spacing, that was probably my biggest adjustment.

2:31:27Pat McAfee:Harder to kick in college than is the NFL.

2:31:29Pete Schrager:I mean, can we just put it down the middle and just like – Yeah, why is it – Why don't they change it up? I mean, that's – I like it. It's pretty good. We're nice and even just set up. But that was the biggest difference schematically for me. But, you know, the game, really kind of walking into that room, that joyful sort of like love of the game, youthful, maybe innocent love of the game that I hadn't seen in a long time, you felt that right away, you know, especially the young kids. And then you realize how young, you know, some of them are. I'm like, how old are you again? And they're like, you know, I'm 18, 19.

2:32:00Pete Schrager:I'm like, my kids are this. I'm like, wow, this is.

2:32:02Jack Hughes:Had Brandon Graham the year before, and he was 50 years old.

2:32:05Pete Schrager:Well, I walked into my first meeting this year, and I'm looking at one of the kids, and I'm like, man, I'm like, is your dad Duke? And he's like, yeah. I'm like, I coached your dad. I look at the kid next time, I'm like, is your dad Moe? And he's like, I'm like, I coached your dad, too. I was like, what the heck is going on? This guy's grandpa coached. Yeah, look at your old ass. You know, back in the day, I used to be like, you know, I'd get gray hairs on my beard. I'm like, all right, this one's Drew Brees. This one's Peyton. You know, now I'm like, all right, this is just kids. They just all sprouted out nice and quick.

2:32:32Pete Schrager:Tone has a question for you.

2:32:33Megan Keller:Coach, you just talked about playing against Drew Brees, Peyton Manning. In here, we watched you guys take on Fernando Mendoza. You hit him first play right in the mouth. And we're like, holy shit, he's going to be out. His brother's going to be whatever. He didn't. He came back in. What makes Mendoza so good? What are the Raiders going to get if he's going number one? Why is he the number one best quarterback in the draft?

2:32:52Pete Schrager:Probably a former quarterback in that organization that's probably. Yeah. He was not like the last three. Yeah, you know him.

2:32:58Pat McAfee:And what would he like about him, you think?

2:33:00Pete Schrager:Yeah, I would say this. going back the previous summer the Peyton Manning passing academy went down to that and I saw him, he was at Cal and I remember spending time with him maybe just checking quarterbacks out

2:33:13Pat McAfee:just in case, you know, trying to get ahead coach

2:33:18Pete Schrager:so I remember spending time with him and just loved his energy but really how smart and you know I'm always looking at how big guys are and I was like you know he's tall, he's you know can stand in the pocket because a lot of the guys are just, you can't see over the offensive linemen, you know? But one of the things you notice right away was just how tough, like how tough he is. Like in the pocket, taking those hits over and over. So, we definitely wanted to hit him early as hard as we could. And Caden Curry, yeah, Caden Curry, who worked out yesterday. Indianapolis kid, yeah. Man, he, great, unbelievable kid.

2:33:50Pete Schrager:A smart, he's just a ball player, right? So he goes right off the edge. We kind of had an idea what maybe was coming, and I was like, wow, like that was I don't think he's and then yeah and then he gets up and you're like oh oh that was our best shot right yeah it's like those Terminator movies like you're good you're not good you're not okay anymore so I think his pocket presence the way that he moves in the pocket I think that maybe the Raiders would like that and the way that he can see downfield you

2:34:18Pat McAfee:know he keeps his eyes down okay so everybody talks about the RPO RPO RPO he was number one in third down number one in fourth down number one in red zone yes he can make the throws like Did you watch the film of the game in the Big Ten afterwards? Yeah. And was there some things that he did that you were like, I did not expect him to be able to do this against us? Because he was doing shit against your defense that we had not seen, really. I mean, old buddy deep shot down the right side. Charlie Becker. Charlie Becker, like that was abnormal against you guys.

2:34:42Pete Schrager:Yeah. But Becker, he had been coming on and coming in. Oh, yeah. Like, you know, big catch radius guy. So we certainly knew. I mean, we did give up like 13 points. Oh, yeah, yeah. That game was defensively awesome. I think they were averaging 45 or something. Yeah, you guys were kind of ass in that Big Ten Championship game. I'm just waiting for it. But I would say this. Watching him live and the arm velocity and the ball coming out of the pocket was maybe something you can't pick up on tape. You knew the accuracy. You knew his vision. But the ball speed and him able to really get that in those tight windows and those shots that he made at the end.

2:35:18And every ball is a – I think his hands must be gigantic

2:35:21Pat McAfee:because every ball is – it's a tight –

2:35:23Pete Schrager:I think it might also be this building a little. I have history in buildings, right? And so there might have been another ball on the sideline. Same idea. End of a game against the Giants where I'm like, you lose a game. Yeah, it was first down. It was first down. Indiana's Big Ten champs. Not in football, not in basketball. It was crazy.

2:35:42Pat McAfee:We're down there hammer drunk. I love you guys. I want to let you know. I love you guys. I know. I got it. I got it. I love it. His answer. I'm trying to buy in. It was crazy over here in Indiana. It was. It was a crazy thing that was happening. It was a freight train. Can you tell me a little bit about Signetti, your thoughts on him as a person that's been around a lot of the great coaches who operate in different fashions? What did you learn about Sig? Have you really looked into who he is as a person or as a coach at all?

2:36:10Pete Schrager:I think just from afar, I don't know him personally, but just admiring how he handled his team. He certainly breeds confidence into those guys. And a lot of times, as we know, in the game of football, and especially with young players, if they can just get that little bit of confidence, you know, you see that light go on and then they believe and they get that belief and then they're rolling. And you felt that. You felt that in that team. They were tough enough, mentally tough enough. They had a game earlier in the year. I think it was Penn State, right? And went down and were able to. Last drive.

2:36:35Pete Schrager:Yeah, kind of do all that stuff. So you knew it was going to be that 60-minute type of game.

2:36:39Pat McAfee:Tell me about seeing him in practice, what he's like. He throws a good ball. Yeah, he does.

2:36:43Pete Schrager:He's a great kid. And probably early on, we were, so by the time we hit training camp, I was like, OK, we're spinning the wheel and see what he's got. Trying to win camp a little bit. But he's so composed. I would go pre-practice. You know, they're stretching. And Sonny would be on one side, you know, and then a couple of the defensive guys would be on there. And I'd walk up and be like, hey, Sonny, what are we looking at? Do you want to go double mugged? Do you want to go five down, six down? And just kind of. But Julian was like, he just wanted to go compete. And I'd love to watch his development, reading coverages, seeing those different looks and seeing fronts.

2:37:16Pete Schrager:And, you know, hopefully that's what kind of got him a little bit of confidence, got him going early in the season, and he was great.

2:37:21Jack Hughes:Having Jeremiah Smith, too, as an NFL guy going to college, seeing Jeremiah Smith on the field, do you immediately think, like, oh, 2008 Randy Moss?

2:37:31Pete Schrager:Yeah, I mean, you immediately go, can he pass rush? Because he's the same. And my defensive end. And I'm like, hey, good for you on offense. But, like, I think, can I borrow? Give him a third down package. Yeah, let me borrow him for a while because he's huge. That'd be sick. Huge. And then we had, you know, obviously Tate on the other side. And you're going, all right, what do we do now? So he is, Jeremiah is an unbelievable player, person, all of it. I'm super excited. We need to win some games next year. But then for the future, super excited for him. He's going to be great.

2:38:04Jack Hughes:Indiana is still here, bud.

2:38:06Pete Schrager:Reloaded. Reloaded. Go ahead, Tom.

2:38:08Megan Keller:No, you were just talking about competing in practice. Are you excited to compete with Artie Smith?

2:38:13Pete Schrager:I mean, obviously, Arthur's great. Like, you know. A couple NFL guys. Yeah, going head to head. You know what's been fun? Just him coming in and seeing his kind of excitement for, you know, the college game and watching him look at our guys and figure out what are we going to do next year and his offense installation. So I'm sure he'll probably get pretty cranked up here pretty fast.

2:38:30Pat McAfee:NFL guys going to college. You guys are singing voice memos to recruit guys. Are you still doing that? Like how? Yeah.

2:38:40Pete Schrager:I don't think I'm singing, man.

2:38:41Pat McAfee:I just. We'll see how good the player is.

2:38:44Pete Schrager:Wait until that first time I do You're going to be like on the phone right away You're going to be like hey you said you were What is this shit? No one wants to see that That's not a problem Can you tell me about that because obviously

2:38:55Pat McAfee:Bill goes to college and now you got Artie And you're in college and there's more NFL guys Coming down to college And then there was old school college guys That were like get me the hell out of this Halfley Coach Saban I think would even be like I've done enough here I think it's a different game. Now I'm going to go try to do something else. Can you tell me about the current college model as an NFL guy that maybe either makes it easier for the transition of NFL coaches going back to college or if it's just more inducive for it nowadays than it was before? Like, what are your thoughts on that?

2:39:28Pete Schrager:Yeah. I think one of the things at college that became really interesting for both, you know, probably Bill and myself was just the ability to actually build a roster fast, you know, because of the portals and that way that that was all working. You can change guys out. We had a big portal year this past year, too. I think we had 50 new guys coming in, including the portal guys. So it's wild. It's wild. But you can get those players a lot faster and be competitive a lot quicker. So I think that part of it for the NFL guys are obviously intriguing from that standpoint.

2:39:57Pat McAfee:So you guys still just got a money train coming over there in Ohio State? I saw some stuff. What'd you see? I saw you and Bob Carpenter on his cruise. I saw you guys raising money. It does feel like Ohio State, though, will always be a place that it's like, hey, Ohio State's always going to be a wagon. Ohio State's always going to be a wagon. You going to college had to be a place like Ohio State, I assume?

2:40:17Pete Schrager:Yeah, definitely. You know, you want to be at the highest level, the most competitive level, and, you know, love to coach, love to teach. We're competitive, though. We want to win. So being lucky enough to be at a place like Ohio State where you can do that was, yeah, it was kind of a no-brainer. Go ahead, AJ.

2:40:31Jack Hughes:What's it been like? It's been cool to see you, like, bring your family around. It seems like you're, I don't know, it just seems fun for you. and your relationship with all the players you see hugging pregame and during like i just seem like you have a great relationship it seems like uh i don't know just a little different atmosphere for you yeah as a coach and second side note i just what is it your little band says crush everything i just want to explain that a little bit yeah uh that's actually very

2:40:53Pete Schrager:perceptive aj one of my uh that's actually one of my military buddies that uh started a company um and that was kind of just his his mantra um every single day every single day uh he would be the Navy. Navy. Yep. Some of those special guys that would do a lot of things overseas to help us out.

2:41:10Pat McAfee:Not an otter, but a seal. Yeah. Yeah. They do crush everything. Pretty big. Hey. I don't know what's going on right now. Yeah. Something's going on.

2:41:21Pete Schrager:That's actually where the beard started. People told that story kind of just recently. Everyone asked about the beard. And it was those guys. Such a special community of men that would go. You know how it is. like you just get a phone call at two o 'clock in the morning it's like I gotta go and you're kind of like yeah okay I'll see you when I see you you know you just don't know and one of my buddies um who was going over and he just called and he's like hey I gotta go but you know they're always watching right you know they're always kind of and they were big Patriots fans I was at New England and they're always checking the scores and that's kind of one of the ways they lift their spirits up and they would all come back and they'd have these huge beards and I was like all right well I'm not I'm not shaving till you get back this is actually 2011 we played the Super Bowl here and so it was a longer season for us and by the end of the year my beard was it was out there yeah it was out there but that was just so those guys knew you know when they were overseas and they were checking home checking scores and seeing us hey man we're thinking about you guys and just get home as fast as you can so that's actually where the beard started that's amazing i think

2:42:16Pat McAfee:it's a good look for you yeah by the way not only good look for you i see your ozempicking

2:42:24Pete Schrager:slim you do you look good dude thank you um you know sleep is actually it actually works it's actually good. Working out apparently is important. Taco Bell at 11 o 'clock at night is not good for you. Well, it depends on in the moment. Tastes pretty good. Listen, nothing better than like, here, go buy out whatever's left.

2:42:42Pat McAfee:So I had some booze last night. First time, long time, did some booze in last night. Good times. Jesus. Brandon, to you, obviously. Last night was awesome. You have, I don't know how many drinks you have, and then all of a sudden, the next decision is like, well, I'm kind of hungry right now. You scroll on DoorDash? Yeah, but then there's pizza available. And that rolls into the next day. Yeah, and then the pizza, and then I wake up this morning, and there's waffles up here, and I'm hungover, and it's like, man.

2:43:07Megan Keller:I had waffles for breakfast. I might as well eat shit the rest of the day.

2:43:11Pat McAfee:I'm already in it, so let's just keep it. It was literally like, now it's Saturday. Isn't it crazy, though, how one decision can kind of change everything? Then you've got to be tough enough to make the opposite decision.

2:43:23Pete Schrager:That's it. You've got to get back into that structure, man.

2:43:26Pat McAfee:I don't know when I'm going to get there, because right now, I'm telling you, this body was not meant at this age to drink what I drank last night. Okay, it is not available. You need to get in that sauna. Yeah. Sweat it out, brother. Yeah, there it is. I'm on. Under 175 degrees. Right at it. Okay, yeah, I need to get it. You doing any of that shit? Yeah, absolutely. Sauna?

2:43:47Pete Schrager:Sauna, boxing, a lot of boxing.

2:43:49Pat McAfee:Virtual reality or actual?

2:43:50Pete Schrager:Actual, yeah. With who, dudes or gloves? Back, you know, so go to class. Facility? Yeah, I used to go to class. A great place would go box in the morning, like 5 o 'clock. What do you got?

2:44:00Pat McAfee:A big overhand right? What's the big play?

2:44:02Pete Schrager:I mean, I can actually throw hands. That's kind of not real fighting, though, because the funniest thing is I used to do that when I was little at the Y. And then I got, you know, headgear, the whole thing. And then I got hit. And I was like, I don't like this anymore. I'm like, I had headgear on. And I was like, I am ringing right now. Headgear makes it worse. I'm not taking the headgear off. I was scared. Like the Guardian cap. Always just kept in with the workout because it was so much fun. But, you know, just hitting the bag, kind of working that. But one time we were coaching late. So, you know, it gets late.

2:44:34Pete Schrager:You're like, hey, check out these reality goggles. You can box. You can do the boxing. Oh, yeah. Thrill of the fight. Yeah. So we're in there, and you're watching your buddy throw these haymakers. And I'm like, if we ever got in a fight, we're dead. Like, this is the worst thing I've ever seen right now. You know, I'm like, so we think so. No, man, no. I'm out. Is it Thrill of the Fight on Meta?

2:44:57Pat McAfee:Yeah. You should get in there. I got to check that one out. Yeah, because everything about it is, they got the, I think it's called the physics. Yeah, the physics. I believe it's called the physics. They have the physics figured out, where you're certainly fighting like a robot or a series of robots. Right. But they are actually hitting you, and there's real movement. The head keeps up with it, and right hand does land. Really? And left hand lands. It feels, yeah. It was my workout for any time I had a wrestling match. I would be in virtual reality. Chuck Pagano almost died.

2:45:27Megan Keller:Yeah, we almost killed Coach Pagano. Chuck Pagano almost died.

2:45:30Pete Schrager:Hasn't he been through enough?

2:45:31Pat McAfee:Can we just keep up?

2:45:32Pete Schrager:Come on.

2:45:35Jack Hughes:We got to take care of him. Come on.

2:45:37Pete Schrager:That was our fault.

2:45:38Jack Hughes:He got three five-minute rounds. He wouldn't quit. It was wild.

2:45:42Pete Schrager:Five-minute rounds? Yeah.

2:45:44Jack Hughes:Live on air. He doesn't do it.

2:45:47Pete Schrager:We do. Like right now, we'll, in the facility, even Ohio State, CJ and I will go in. We'll do like a minute. We'll do like a minute rounds. I'm like done. Dead tired. Yeah, there he is. There's Chuck.

2:45:58Megan Keller:You can see him in the bottom right. That's Ugly Joe right there.

2:46:01Pat McAfee:That's Ugly Joe. That's the first fighter you take on, and I'll tell you what. Ugly Joe, Kid Joe. He's got a real chin. Just go down. Chuck actually looks good. He's got some. Oh, that was his. No, not that. Chuck's Italian. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So he's been in there before. Ugly Joe did almost kill him at the Thunderdome. And you're right. Leukemia didn't get him. He had a couple broken backs.

2:46:24Jack Hughes:He sent us his Peloton, by the way.

2:46:27Pat McAfee:He's had 407 straight weeks. He's a legend. Yeah, he absolutely is. All right, Coach, last question for you here from an Iowa Hawkeye, Ty Schmidt.

2:46:35Pete Schrager:Yeah, you mentioned when you went back to college, it had to be a place like Ohio State. And everything gets so overblown in terms of, hey, the worst part for NFL guys is you have to recruit. you have to recruit your entire team every single year especially at a place like Ohio State where you're getting you know 45 star guys do you have to be cognizant of that at all like I mean obviously this year you got four guys who might get picked in the first round but is it tough when it's like hey if I don't get this guy some burn like there's a good and he could be he's just a little raw right now but he could be you know an all-american a couple years but if we don't get him out there like he's going to transfer like is that something that you constantly have to kind of mess around with or is that one of those things where it's like if you get too caught up in that, then you're kind of just fucking yourself.

2:47:16Pete Schrager:Yeah, that's a really great question. I think for us, what we really tried to do was just get the young guys out there because it's important for their development. Not necessarily worry about, you know, somebody not getting playing time, but they've got to go get the reps. You know, you just, that's the only way you can get better. You know, for us in our sport, it's different than basketball, baseball. Like you play games in basketball and baseball and can get better. We only have so many opportunities. So it's either practice and then those live game reps if you can get those young guys in maybe over a course of four or five weeks you can build up 50 60 reps so that later in the season which now college football is much longer um and that guy has to go play he's had that game experience so it's more of that i think is really important for us to make sure those guys are ready to go if that happens how

2:48:00Pat McAfee:tough is it for you nfl people to just realize that the big 10 is it's the one now yeah i mean it's not tough for me i'm in the big 10 i think i'm all right you know yeah but you're friends in the... The ones that are walking around here. Because I think it's hard for media people to buy. I think it's hard for some media people to buy into Mendoza because he was Indiana. He was Cal. So it's just like your natural stubbornness is like... Yeah, it's like, I'm not doing that.

2:48:26Pete Schrager:I think for the NFL, I would say this for how many every year is 20-whatever-plus years I was in it. You know, the NFL is not full of five stars. It's not full of, you know what I mean? It's full of two stars, three stars guys that battle guys that compete um certainly on new england we had our starting right guard steve neal never played college legend right one of the best guys ever amazing but never played we had uh chris hogan played lacrosse like so i think when you get to the nfl everyone's just realizing um it's what you do in the nfl more than anything chris hogan i think

2:48:58Pat McAfee:handball getting ready for the olympics really is he really i think that's great so he is he I just sent a couple messages to a couple different people around me. Okay. I try to be very difficult to get to. I don't check DMs. I don't really. I try to be very hard to get to. No, you're great. You text me back right away. I'm a big fan of yours. I'm a big fan of yours. And if I don't, just know you're not the only one. Yeah. Okay. And I did see it. Okay. I did see it. I apologize.

2:49:24Pete Schrager:I kind of have the same philosophy. What's good? And then everyone gets on me because I don't have an iPhone. Right? So I'm still low. Don't fucking do it. Yeah, that's it. I get to, like, you're green. Don't text me, actually.

2:49:35Pat McAfee:I will never fucking respond. But I think he's getting into handball. I got numerous people that are like, hey, you guys have talked about handball on the show a lot because we've said that if America was to put together an actual team of handball, sorry, world, we're winning another one. And that's, like, how it is. Could you imagine Lamar, Stafford, Mahomes, Josh, any of these wide receivers that have – like Odell Beckham Jr. could throw the ball, like, 100 yards. Like any of these guys, if we were to play your sport for four weeks and able to learn the rules and then they would get in there, we would win.

2:50:09Pat McAfee:And it's a great sport. Yeah. Handball is incredible. We love it every time the Olympics come around. There's like spin and like strategy, but we've never really gotten into it. I think Chris has kind of taken in one of the greatest athletes we have. I think allegedly, I don't know, this is just from messaging from other people.

2:50:26Jack Hughes:Wrong Chris Hogan.

2:50:27Pat McAfee:Wrong guy.

2:50:28Jack Hughes:What do you mean? A different Chris Hogan. A different Chris Hogan?

2:50:31Pat McAfee:I refuse to believe it. Lacrosse guy Chris Hogan's doing it.

2:50:34Pete Schrager:Hey, hey, it doesn't matter. Let's get Chris's name out there. Let's just get him. Maybe we'll get him going. We'll start him now. Hey, Chris. Chris, start calling. We just pumped you up. You better start practicing. Practice now. Well, let's go.

2:50:47Pat McAfee:Matt, we're ending our time here at the Combine alongside of you. We appreciate you stopping by. I'm thankful that you joined us. Maybe this becomes an annual tradition as the last person we talked to here.

2:50:56Pete Schrager:That would be amazing. You know how much I appreciate you guys, and I'm so thankful to be here.

2:51:01Pat McAfee:Okay, we're going to need a little speech here in a second. Boys in the truck, great work. Great work. Great work this week, boys. Barcode and team, great work on the setup. Unbelievable stuff here. Obviously, a lot going on. We appreciate the hell out of you guys. Got that for you. Wow. Oh, Ticonder. Custom, eh? Custom. Will you sign that? You doing the internet? Custom.

2:51:22Pete Schrager:You know what? I mean, I love Ticonderoga number twos, but why couldn't it have been like Rolexes? Like, I get pencils. It could be now. All the time. I should have. I really should have gone Rolexes. That's awesome.

2:51:32Pat McAfee:Yeah.

2:51:33Pete Schrager:But defend the shoe.

2:51:34Pat McAfee:There you go. I don't know how you need to start calling plays maybe with a Rolex. Just flashing. Just with the. Maybe hand signals. Maybe start doing the shit more.

2:51:41Pete Schrager:Yeah.

2:51:42Pat McAfee:Yeah.

2:51:42Pete Schrager:We could do this. We could come up with a bunch of hand signals for defensive calls and like it's a new.

2:51:46Jack Hughes:I got my Boston Scali caps going. Do you guys still signal stuff in with the green dots still? Yeah.

2:51:53Pete Schrager:You know, that's probably a big adjustment in college. Why are you still doing signals?

2:51:58Jack Hughes:I have the same question. Secondary? I have the same question because I'm right.

2:52:01Pete Schrager:I'm like, we got a speaker. Well, maybe they're not. Okay. Look over here. Don't look here, look there.

2:52:09Pat McAfee:That was probably a big change. Hey, Signetti was listening. You just gave it away. We're not falling for shit. Before we get out of here, I believe Sodexo wants to bring us another. I love this part. This has become a new thing. This has become a new thing. We do shows at these stadiums. Sodexo has a lot of these stadiums. Somebody at Sodexo is a fan of the program, and they always just send us all the food from the stadium. Who is that up here on the stairs? I don't know who exactly this is. This is a very cool-looking chef who's bringing us some stuff.

2:52:41Pete Schrager:I'm Italian, so this is right up my alley right here. Are you a full paizan? There's a little bit of mix in there, but I'm 90. Northern Italy? No, no, southern.

2:52:50Pat McAfee:Start over there. Start over there. No, no, no. Start over there. I really confused him. Come on now. Thank you, Chef. This is going all down my shirt. Thank you, Chef. Thank you so much. Thank you very much. Oh, my gosh. Oh, and then we got Marg's. Chef, Chef. Is there alcohol in these? Okay, good. What is this? Hell yeah. Thank you, sir. What are these here? Wow. You can definitely take that. This is so... Okay. Thank you. Can you put that up on your... That's tequila for sure. And Nick, can we get the handheld please turned on? Pat, this will help you out, buddy. What is this, a Marg? Yeah.

2:53:19Pat McAfee:Holy shit. I don't know. Right back in it, pal. Cheers to you. I'm pretty hungover. This is going to help. All right. Can you turn on the handheld mic, please, Nick? Go ahead, sir. Can you talk? Can you – so what is the sandwich here? And are you serving here? I don't think I fully understand the setup here at the combine.

2:53:36Jack Hughes:Yeah, we are doing full suite service for all the teams. And then we have ancillary catering for the medical staff, the players, and anybody else involved in this. So for this sandwich, this is something so –

2:53:50Pete Schrager:Look at this guy.

2:53:51Pat McAfee:No, I'm talking to the truck. They have something wide open in my ear back there. They have a microphone just blaring in my ear. I think it was a show from earlier before. Currently in my right ear. In my left ear. Thank you so much for turning that off. Chef Dave in my left ear. I didn't hear a word you said, but I heard you're doing a lot of incredible things for people. We appreciate you taking care of them. And I also appreciate the fact that anytime we're in a Sodexo stadium, you guys bring us the absolute greatest stuff. We try to. Yeah, so thank you so much for that. Thank you. Have an incredible weekend.

2:54:19Pat McAfee:And this is going to be the most delicious thing I've ever baked.

2:54:24Jack Hughes:Oh, yeah. It is so good. It's bomb. What is this? It's really good. It's like brisket. It's a house smoked short rib. House smoked short rib. Jalapeno Fresno slaw. Oh. Crispy onions. Oh. A little bit of that slaw. A little bit of special sauce. Chef Dave's special sauce?

2:54:41Pat McAfee:Absolutely. Okay. We're learning a lot about each other.

2:54:45Jack Hughes:It's fantastic. Great work, Chef. It's so good. Yes, Chef. Thank you, Chef. Yes, Chef. Yes, Chef. Thank you, Chef. You are to bear, Chef.

2:54:52Pat McAfee:Behind. Thank you so much, Chef. Thank you, Sodexo. Thank you for everything. We appreciate the hell out of you, brother. We'll see you soon. Thank you so much for everything. Sodexo is very good. Coach, how do you feel about it?

2:55:02Megan Keller:Pretty good? Yes, legit.

2:55:04Pat McAfee:This is good. It's good. See, but this is what we're talking about here. Fucking impossible to eat this.

2:55:08Megan Keller:Bad decision? Coach, if you were to draft a Ohio State player first, which one would it be?

2:55:12Pete Schrager:All of them. Oh, yeah. Which player do you like the most? See, this is the good part, because everyone asked me that question. I said, fellas, that's why I'm not into it. Yeah. I can take as many as I want. So we're just going to get them all. All right. That's unbelievable. I don't know how to eat it. I know.

2:55:25Megan Keller:Serious question, though. How do you feel about teams moving Arvell to strictly on the ball, edge?

2:55:31Pete Schrager:You know, obviously, whatever scheme they're running. But I think the good thing that he was able to show in a lot of our guys this year is being able to play in those multiple positions. He can play on the edge. I mean, watch some of his edge-setting stuff with his great ends. and I mean he's it's you know we're bobbleheading such a long time I'm setting the edge

2:55:50Jack Hughes:outside arm free I try to teach a little third and fourth graders that but unfortunately they're not exactly Arbel

2:55:55Pete Schrager:I try to teach my kids that too and they don't it's not come on guys just watch it just do what he's doing do what this guy's doing what's so hard about this yeah exactly because I'm your dad that's why you're not going to be able to do that

2:56:06Pat McAfee:Tom great work this week buddy you too brother thank you Ty great to see you we love you man great to see you enjoy the sandwich it is delicious if you're able to get to it Boston Conner, good to see you, buddy. Good to see you, man. AJ, thank you for traveling over. Great to be here. Good luck to your boy.

2:56:20Jack Hughes:Thank you.

2:56:21Pat McAfee:Good luck to Hendricks.

2:56:22Jack Hughes:Oh, no, he's gone. No, he's watching the guys in the field. He's losing his mind if he can see Caleb down.

2:56:27Pat McAfee:It feels like, hey, he's got a size 11 shoe. He's 13. He's obviously son of AJ Hawk. GM. If you would just like to offer him a scholarship now. Might as well offer him. No, his head needs to get hurt.

2:56:36Jack Hughes:I'm still knocking his forehead in the ass. Not hard enough. He's not joking. His nose doesn't have a bump on it yet either.

2:56:43Pat McAfee:Okay. He's playing flag football. He's a great kid. I love him.

2:56:46Jack Hughes:I love him to death. I don't know, but I'm just saying. His hand just needs to get harder.

2:56:49Pat McAfee:Matt, thank you so much for joining us. All right. Be a friend. Have an incredible weekend. We'll see you on Monday. We'll be in Arizona with Team USA Baseball for their first training as the World Baseball Classic throws its first pitch next Friday for the United States of America. We are loaded. Team USA is loaded. All the boys of USA Baseball are playing. In this World Baseball Classic, from our experience of covering sports on a daily basis, this will become a huge thing. Just like what we saw, especially coming fresh out of the Olympics. Japan has all their – Dominican has all of their players playing.

2:57:24Pat McAfee:Going to need it. And it's the first time, long time, from my understanding, that America has everybody. We're talking Judge, Bryce, Paul Skeens. Tarek Skubal. Skubal. Bobby Witt Jr. Yeah, everybody, I think, is playing for America. And we're going to get a chance to see them all. and there's a chance maybe even I'd take Kershaw fucking 500 feet. What? Okay. There's a chance for anything. There's a chance Kershaw takes me 600 feet. I think we're going to be out there on Monday. We can't thank you enough for allowing us to do this for a living. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice. It might change your life.

2:57:58Pat McAfee:We're in this thing together. Coach Patricia has last thought for us here as we head into the greatest weekend of all time.

2:58:03Pete Schrager:Yeah, you know, just I always go back to with our guys and our team, gratitude. Let's just be grateful and appreciative for everything that we got. And I'm so thankful for you guys having me on.

2:58:11Pat McAfee:We appreciate the hell out of you. Team, have a great weekend, dude. Thank you. And good luck through spring ball and everything like that. Sick nanny's coming. Have a great weekend, everybody. We appreciate you all so much. Team on me, team on three. One, two, three. Team. Goodbye.
