In short
The show is a “Feel Good Football Friday” World Cup preview and live sports update, centered on Team USA vs Australia in Seattle, plus a U.S. Open (golf) live leaderboard discussion. It also marks Juneteenth with a conversation about its history and importance, and includes betting/promo talk.
Guests (backgrounds)
- Michael Grella: CBS Sports soccer analyst and host; former international soccer player; long-time commentator on U.S. soccer. Appears to be the main guest for the World Cup segment.
- Mark Schlabach: ESPN journalist covering college sports and golf; provides U.S. Open analysis and live updates.
- Darius Butler: nine-year NFL veteran; joins for Juneteenth discussion and sports/culture commentary.
Key claims
- USA vs Australia: Grella argues Australia is “not known for football” and frames the match as a “layup” for the U.S., emphasizing the U.S. has higher-level players/coaching and should “full throttle” like a champion.
- Juneteenth: Butler says many people weren’t aware of Juneteenth growing up; he highlights it as a federal holiday (since 2021) and stresses learning the history and navigating how to celebrate respectfully.
- U.S. Open golf: Schlabach focuses on Wyndham Clark’s strong position, notes his temper/anger history, and explains penalties and course conditions affecting play.
Notable examples
- Grella cites a historical stat: the U.S. has never won back-to-back World Cup games since 1930.
- Schlabach describes Joaquin Niemann’s two-stroke penalty for conduct after incidents involving fire ants and a thrown club.
- Golf examples include discussion of Scotty Scheffler’s struggles, Bryson DeChambeau’s cut-miss concerns, and the leaderboard featuring players like Xander Schauffele, Morikawa, and Corey Connors.

This sports program begins now. Sports! We are the absolute greatest and we're seeing the entire country come together and rally around a soccer team that is battling for the world's title of the World Cup champion. Now, Team USA obviously kicked it off in a big way against Paraguay and LA and now in Seattle. Today, 3 o 'clock Eastern, we will take on the Socceroos from down under as the boys who will be donning the stripes and the stars will be trying to prove that the game against Paraguay was not an anomaly.
0:41Pat McAfee:That was not a one-off. What that was was an indicator of where soccer is in the United States of America, which is at an elite level, which might win the whole damn thing. Now, Australia, there were some people saying they were ass. Michael Grello, friend of the program, friend of ours, obviously for a very long time will be joining us here in about 15-20 minutes. He has come out very publicly and said, Australia's shite, basically. Australia has responded to Grela, which has kind of lifted the sense of tension for this particular game. But the boys on the pitch understand that their first games, Australia against Turkey and us against Paraguay, were something that not a lot of people expected.
1:16Pat McAfee:And who knows what can happen? What we're hoping happens, USA wins by 10. Easy. We hope this is 10-0. Is that likely? We have no idea. Soccer's been crazy. Canada scored six yesterday.
1:28Mark Schlabach:Crazy.
1:28Pat McAfee:Canada scored six goals yesterday. And then you go to the Mexico-Korea game, and there's only one goal scored, and it was kind of because of a goalie mistake. You have no idea if the score's going to go high. You have no idea if there's going to be no score. You have no idea if it's going to be a draw. But what you do know is that this World Cup has been delivering. I'm watching countries. I didn't even know it's this. Capovirde. Yeah, exactly. Capovirde. Capovirde. It's right there off the coast of... Senegal. Boom, right off of Senegal down there. Beautiful, it looks like. Beautiful. It appears to be an absolutely beautiful place.
1:56Pat McAfee:Also, they've got a soccer team that's competing for the World Cup, and all of a sudden we're starting to see the world come together a little bit. So today, as USA takes on Australia and Seattle, we will be celebrating the hell out of sports as a whole, maybe making the world a much better place. Now, on that note, since we are a DraftKings partner, which we are very thankful for and lucky to be a part of, there is a special today that we need you to understand about. Ladies and gentlemen, it's America Game 2 Guarantee. Now, this is not normal for sportsbook platforms at this stage of sports gambling, okay?
2:25Pat McAfee:This used to be the move at the beginning of sports gambling becoming legal in a bunch of different states. These sports books platforms would say, hey, listen, every five people that bet on this side will add a point to the spread. The spread gets up to plus 1 ,000. This is a must, a guarantee win, basically, just trying to get people over there. It's like, hey, come experience our experience. So now that they are basically saying, hey, you're either gonna win your bet whenever you're riding with the United States of America, and if they draw or if they lose, you'll get your money back in free bets okay that you can use bonus bets whenever you're going forward now you can't cash those out obviously but you can win and then cash that out so it's a guarantee that your money will be able to be used again if you lose or draw but if we win you're getting a ride with the entire country come join us at draft kings if you're 21 plus and want to do this responsibly and they have limits obviously on how much you can bet but this feels like a fun time for a team ride the talks at was here at boston corner and at ty schmidt both you lads wearing uh american flag stuff obviously it does feel like we really have the fever and today it
3:21Mark Schlabach:comes to a pitch maybe Ty Schmidt yeah without a doubt I never thought I would say this never thought I'd care this much the first thing I did when I woke up this morning I said my god it's football day and I said it just like that and usually you know even past world cups you know you watch it sure hey go USA I'll gladly get behind the team and act like an asshole and act like we can win the whole thing knowing full well that we just don't have the quality on our side to go out and do it it's different this year it really does and and now I'm just praying I'm praying that with all this momentum, all this juice behind us, the boys go out, the lads go out, and they beat the hell out of Australia.
3:59Mark Schlabach:We're at a fever pitch right now. If they go out and they win big today, it is. It's not coming home. It's staying home. I truly believe that. This is the most excited I've ever been for a soccer game in my life. Maybe will be the most excited I will ever be for a soccer game in my life.
4:16Pat McAfee:If it doesn't go great, there's a chance that this is the last time you feel this. I just want to let you know, Although DraftKings has given a guarantee, hey, listen, if you're 21 plus and you want to opt in and apply the token, you could certainly be a part of that. If America wins, you win. If they draw or lose, you get your money back in bonus bets. That's available right now up until the game on DraftKings. You can come join us. Responsibly, obviously, take care of yourself. Don't be an asshole and be of age in this entire thing. But if they win like we think they should, where Ponchettino we know is a little bit of an accountability-driven coach, it's like I don't think the boys are going to take the foot off the gas pedal.
4:45Pat McAfee:I think we're only getting started in this entire ride, Connor, which is almost the most exciting part of it all.
4:48Mark Schlabach:Yeah, it's not a guarantee, but I'm going to go ahead and guarantee an America win. I don't think there's any doubt like that in my mind.
4:54Pat McAfee:Just like in 1776, people forget July 4th. That was nowhere near the end of that thing. No. No, we were forecasting ahead that we're about to come. Have we been perfect? Absolutely not. Which leads to a great conversation about today. One half of the hammer. Time. Cowboys AP tone and on. Educators tone. He grew up right up the street from me. Same school district. So we obviously knew about this our entire lives. Yes, we are. Me and Tom knew this. But it is as of the last couple of years, really, where not us, but other people are starting to learn of the significance of June 19th as a day in America's history.
5:35And we pointed out something special on St.
5:39Pat McAfee:Patrick's Day, actually. So if we could go and take a trip back in time to St. Patrick's Day, we'd like to illustrate how we led to today's celebration of a great day in America's history, by the way. Obviously, not everything has ever been perfect, but Juneteenth, the holiday, I think that a lot of you, not me in town, because where we grew up, we learned about this. Sure. Says we were little kids. Maybe that's not true. Maybe more people need to learn about it. But let's go to St. Patrick's Day, shall we? Nine-year NFL vet. Happy St. Paddy's, D-Bot. Hey, D-Bot. D-Bot. Oh, yeah. Happy St. Paddy's Day.
6:09Pat McAfee:Happy St. Paddy's to you. Have you done a 23andMe just to see if you have any iris? No, I didn't, but I did buy into the gift. Oh, green socks. I'm in. I'm in. It's like green socks. So, you know, June 19th, you boys better be in, too. So, we're all – I'm wearing black. I'm wearing black. Is that what you – Green, red, Juneteenth, you boys better be dialed in. But, no, 23andMe, I haven't done it, but I look in the mirror every morning, every night. What? I think this bloodline is pretty pure.
6:38Mark Schlabach:You've got some iris in you. I can tell. That's just a little harsh.
6:43Pat McAfee:Darius J. Butler joining us here today. Love everything about it. Ladies and gentlemen, nine-year NFL vet, Darius J. Butler. D-Bucks, huge day. Everybody in here was wearing black at the beginning. I think there was an attempt, obviously, made to celebrate the hell out of June 19th and Juneteenth here. Your thoughts on the magical kind of unveiling of this story kind of being introduced to the United States of America over the last few years. I think it has been a good thing. And also, I think it's a beautiful thing that we have a Team USA game riding on the same exact day as all of this, Steve.
7:14Yeah, unlike you and Tone, I wasn't really aware of Juneteenth even as a kid growing up. Obviously, you knew the history in this country. We knew about the Emancipation Proclamation, which took place on the 1st in 1863, January 1st. Abraham Lincoln gave that. But it wasn't until two years later, until 1865, where the last enslaved people in Texas, over 250 ,000 people were actually free once the general rode up there and kind of, you know, let them know, hey, this is what's going on here. So now we celebrate and we know and we're aware. And a lot of people know July 4th, 1776, for black people, for descendants of slaves, we weren't free.
7:50So this is our independent state, essentially. So Juneteenth is very, very important. I'm glad it's come more to the light as of late. It's now a federal holiday back in June 2021, I believe it came to the federal holiday. 1979, Texas was the first state to make it a state holiday. So it's awesome. It's awesome that you learn about it. Obviously, we're not still in that place. We've come a long way. But it's important to know the history, the history of the people around you. And look, we have like a locker room, like a family vibe here. So I wouldn't suggest just all white people just going, hey, happy Juneteenth.
8:22Whoa, whoa, whoa. We thought maybe that should become the whole time. Depending on your relationships with your people around you, you know, just navigate that wisely. But that was the first thing said to me this morning. Upon arrival, popping the trunk, going through my shit, making sure I got all my shit. Hey, how's your team? So, yeah, so I made sure I shot that back. But, yeah, it's a dope day, obviously, to celebrate. And going forward, like you said, it is, you know, the 250th celebration of the country, and we got the World Cup. So, you know what sports it does. Shit, that's how me and you got together.
8:55We've known each other for over 12, 13 years at this point. So it's an awesome day, and I'm glad that people are more educated. You know, thought about shit. Calling off today. Why the fuck am I working on this? Listen, a lot of people are asking me why. I watched that video, a lot of people are saying, go get his bag.
9:08Pat McAfee:It's like, hold on now. Okay, I'm from Pittsburgh. If we could at least have that conversation. I said, use the platform to educate, inform, and obviously celebrate sports. But, yeah, today's a great day and a great celebration for Americans, especially black Americans enslaved. As somebody who, and this is a hilarious thing to say, and anytime a Caucasoid says it, it is classic, but as somebody who actually has black friends, I would like to say I'm very thankful for kind of sport, bringing everybody together, whatever brings everybody together. And also, I appreciate the fact that we're getting another day to celebrate.
9:44Pat McAfee:I mean, black folks make up a huge part of sports world, and if we can celebrate the actual day that somebody said, hey, listen, this shit ain't happening anymore, beautiful thing. I love everything about learning about Juneteenth. And I like what sports is doing here in the United States of America. The World Cup clips that just continue to come out from fans experiencing things and these stadiums being packed with people from so many different religions in so many different countries, obviously, and cultures, in socioeconomic. It's just sports are a wonderful thing. So I'm happy it's all being celebrated right now in the middle of summer and there's a chance the United States are going to win it all.
10:17Pat McAfee:Another incredible sporting event is taking place. The third major of the golf season is taking place at Shinnecock, Long Island, Hamptons, New York. Live, boots on the ground. Incredibly pumped to be talking to us every time he gets a chance to talk to us. He's the best writer I think ESPN has. He covers college sports, golf, and anything that's got, you know, a bit of wealth around it. Ladies and gentlemen, Mark Schlaball. Yeah, Schlaball! How you doing, Schlappel? Wyndham Clark has a five-shot lead. Is he down to four? Yeah, Xander's three under. Four. He's down to four. Okay, so tell me about Wyndham Clark.
10:58Pat McAfee:Everybody's pissed off that he didn't have to play with the wind like he was the one that scheduled the wind and his tee time. But obviously there was others that were playing at relatively same time as him. He was taking advantage of the situation. What is the conversation around Wyndham Clark? And then is he going to have to face any of the super stiff wind that maybe the earlier rounds yesterday had to face? The wind started to pick up, but he's on holes 15 right now. I mean, this is a guy that went from smashing lockers at Oakmont to potentially smashing records here at Shinnecock this week.
11:28The largest 36-hole lead in the U.S. Open history, Pat, is six by Tiger back in 2000 at Pebble Beach, and Rory did it in 2011 at Congressional. But, you know, he's a guy that wanted U.S. Open back at L.A. Country Club a few years ago. He really struggled for more than a year with a double miss off the tee, but won the Byron Nelson a couple weeks ago to CJ Cuppert, the Byron Nelson finished well at the Memorial. He's got a ton of talent. Obviously, he's had a temper problem over the years. I've talked to him about it, did a couple big stories about controlling his anger. He's got a really good mental coach that's helping him now.
12:06Dude's ultimately talented. He's got a couple of huge breaks. On 13, he drove it left into the native area, knocked it on the green, made birdie. Next hole hits it right, gets a good lie. He's catching a lot of breaks early.
12:18Pat McAfee:Okay, so I like that maybe Shinnecock is picking him to maybe win this year wide-to-wire, so he can move on past the Oakmont situation last year. You obviously wrote about it a couple times. Tone Diggs here, Mark. I don't know if you know this. He was actually a caddy for one summer at Oakmont, and he felt obligated the other day when Wyndham joined us just a few days before a major. Thank you to him for joining us. Tone goes, hey, asshole, I caddied at Oakmont. I don't like what you did to our locker room. And Wyndham was like basically saying that he hopes this year he's able to play well enough that all of that is behind him.
12:51Pat McAfee:He's seemingly doing as such. Is there a Wyndham Clark, is he a little bit of a polarizing figure in golf in general? Is that a good way to talk about it? Because he was cool to us, and I think he acknowledged a little bit that he might not be loved by everybody a couple different times in the convo. I'm happy to know there's some serious journalism going on on the Pat McAfee show. That's a hell of a question. Thank you, Mark. Tell me about this one right here. What's that? What is that? What letter is that? It's a J. Fucking right. That's a six foot one J right there. Big boy. Big boy journalism.
13:24Thank you. Thank you. He's a polarizing guy. You know, he's always been good to me. I've had a couple of one-on-ones with him. You know, backstory, mom died. I think she was kind of the filter between him and his father. He was a little hands-on when he was growing up in terms of the golf, and he had to learn how to filter that anger. And the Julie, I can't remember her last name, is swing coach. Middle coach has helped him. But with what happened at Oakmont, and he destroyed a sign, I think, in Charlotte last year, he's a polarizing guy. But no question, he's got a lot of talent.
14:00Pat McAfee:It's amazing what winning a couple tournaments can do, though, for being polarizing and being destructive as opposed to being passionate and obviously intense. You know, it's all in how it ends up working out for you. How about Neiman getting a two-stroke penalty allegedly here? You would know better than us, but no cameras caught it. I guess Joaquin Neiman of Liv, Liv Golf Fame, he was assessed a two-stroke penalty for Potten. I didn't know that happens because I've seen a lot of golfers get pissed. That seemingly is going to be a story or not a story at all over there? No, it's a story. It actually happened Thursday night right as he was trying to finish a hole number six in the first round.
14:39He hit two drives out of bounds, had to go back to the tee, and then he rips one to the left in the native area. He wanted relief from fire ants. I did not know the fire ants were so deadly up here in Long Island. But he asked for relief. He didn't get it. Threw his club, kicked a little white flag that the volunteer had placed to locate his ball. and ends up making a nine. And then when he teed off in the second round this morning, USGA announced that he'd been penalized two strokes for what we'll call it conduct unbecoming of a professional golfer. To his credit, he ended up making, I think he shot 78 in the first round.
15:19He made a couple early birdies, but I think he's about six over right now. I hadn't looked in the last few minutes, but it could end up costing him.
15:27Pat McAfee:The live golfers end up getting hot later, You know, because they're used to playing the long weekend. But Rambo's not. Dustin. Rambo just dropped a massive F word.
15:37Mark Schlabach:Yeah, he did.
15:38Pat McAfee:He dropped a massive F word off on missing a putt. It was beautiful. Maybe Neiman wasn't potting. Maybe he was getting bit up by the fire ants. I didn't know that part of it. Yeah, I didn't know he was potentially being attacked by the local. Tough it out. Ants in his pants and his shoes potentially. That's where it really gets bad. You never know. When it's down there on your toes. Those fire ants will really get you. You lay down on something accidentally, maybe by a pool or something. Oh, ho, ho! How am I supposed to putt with this going on, Joaquin says? They're the little bastards. Damn. Wind him in and out of the trampled data area again.
16:07Pat McAfee:He's been in there all day. He'll probably knock it to three feet. Yeah. Tell us what happens, Mark. We're not able to watch right now. Up onto the green, about 15 yards, 15 feet to the right. Okay, I like that. Hey, maybe get into play-by-play, Mark. You're a writer. You're obviously a pundit. You're an analysis guy. I think you're really starting to break it down. One thing you're not good at, picks. Go ahead, Con, man.
16:29Mark Schlabach:Yeah, Marco, a couple days ago you said, you know what, this is Scotty's time, and my long shot's going to be Russ Henley. So naturally I sprinted to DraftKings and said, you know what, if Schlaubach is telling me Scotty's going to win and Henley might be the long shot, I'm going to go ahead and ride with Schlaubach. Turns out you completely screwed me. Scotty sucks right now, and Henley's nowhere to be found too. What the hell happened? What is going on with those two guys? Can we expect some sort of move from Scotty, or is the wind just following him and it's going to pick up this afternoon when he tees off?
16:59Mark Schlabach:You son of a bitch. Yeah, I apologize. I'm in a season-long pool with like 35 other guys in the majors. One of them is Mike Mills from R.E.M., name dropping the second greatest rock and roll band of all time. I'm like in the next to last place right now thanks to Russ Henley. Right. And Tyrell Hatton, Tyrell Hatton. He's Tyrell when he's playing well. He's Tyrell when he plays bad. He's Tyrell this week. but no I watched Scotty out on the range the video y 'all were showing yesterday struggling with the grip I said he's got to get the irons dialed in a little bit but he hasn't done it swing seems to be a little steep according to guys who know more about swings than I do and he got into it a little bit with Randy Smith but a lot of golf left he'll still make a run I went with Henley for low dog of the week turns out it's going to be the left hander Brian Harmon, who won the Open a couple years ago.

17:55He's in the best position. I didn't pick him this week because I called him last Monday and he was on a fishing boat trying to catch star food. Didn't know where the mind was.
18:03Pat McAfee:Yeah, it was free. If you're that free before a major and you're that young, I think your mind is in a good spot. It's the person that's maybe gripping one real tight up on the range that we don't want to see. I don't like this about Scotty. Or Schlobbach that he's telling us something's going to happen
18:18Mark Schlabach:and he just completely screws us.
18:19Pat McAfee:Agreed on that because that's kind of precedent setting all of a sudden. Now we're going to have to judge him off of that so whenever he comes on and goes scott i can't swing a damn golf club and then everything else you do we it's going to be hard for us to take you guys serious whenever you're just wrong about all this damn it i told you i told you like the third time i was on here i'm not great at thinking i mean there's 160 guys in the field this isn't like trying to trying to pick west virginia or north carolina and baseball or georgia and oklahoma and baseball i mean it's It's tough. By the way, it did not work out good for us, either of us.
18:51Pat McAfee:No, it didn't. Oklahoma's winning everything. Hey, final four. I don't know. Oklahoma might look better because the run differential, right? But West Virginia put up six in like the eighth or seventh or eighth or something like that. It was like 12-1, I think, at one point. Once again, West Virginia never stops. But it's like the UNC team, I don't know anything about college baseball. Actually, that is noted. All I know is what I saw this year. that UNC team, they look the part. They're good. You know, like getting off the bus. Like that was a team getting off the bus. It's like, yeah, that's a professional baseball outfit right there.
19:26Pat McAfee:West Virginia boys, we got studs obviously all over the place. And I can't wait to see what Steve Sabans does with the team. But it's like, I think Oklahoma team's the same, right? And aren't they kind of – They had high home runs in their last game. Red hot. Red hot. Off fire. That's as close as you guys have been. I mean, other than your 21 rifle national championships, which I would expect nothing less from a state that had, had field of McCoy. Well, that's another state as well. If you want to get Kentucky. Okay. Okay. Sorry. Yeah. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Across the mountains. Excuse me.
19:57Thank you.
19:58Pat McAfee:Thank you. Yeah. Close. That's as close as close as you guys have been probably since what pitch pitch snuggle. Was he there before you? Cause I, I covered that. But I was in fact, I tried to find it the other day, the year you were there with Pat White and Steve Slayton and Noel Devine and all those other dudes. I came to the UConn game next to the last game of the year and wrote, hand West Virginia the trophy. It's over. And then we know what happened. The worst night of my life, Shabba. Thank you. The worst first quarter of my life. I'll never ever forget it. Never ever forget it. But on that note.
20:37Pat McAfee:Mark, fucked you. Yeah, he did. Holy shit. The only game he ever went to. Holy shit. Okay, it's all starting to come together now. I'm happy. Okay, I would not listen to anything you're saying. Did y 'all play in the Sugar Bowl that year? Is that right? Yeah. Or they moved the Sugar Bowl to Atlanta? Yeah, we beat the hell out of Georgia. Yeah, beat the hell out of Georgia. I went to the Gator Bowl that day and was going to fly back to Atlanta and do two games in one day. Wow. That was the day Marcus Vick stomped Elvis Dummerville's half during the Gator Bowl. Oh. Those are the good old days. Big East.
21:10Those big East, too. Yeah, absolutely. But get back to Atlanta Airport, turn on the radio, and Larry Munson says, West Virginia's up 21-0. I pointed the truck back home and said, nope.
21:22Pat McAfee:What was the final score of that game? Do you remember? A rout. It was a rout. That was the year it got moved to Atlanta because of Katrina, correct? Yeah, and it was really nice. We took on Georgia. That's cool. Sweet. Moving over to Atlanta, and we're taking on Georgia. and we were all freshmen. That was our freshman year, basically. Pat was a freshman. Steve was a freshman. I was a freshman. Owen Schmidt was an older guy. We had the older crew. Fullback. Oh, freshman? Yeah, we were a freshman. Oh, he was a stud. That was a hell of a team. No Devon could fly. Yeah, did we? No, no, Devon wasn't there then.
21:54Pat McAfee:It was the Georgia Sugar Bowl. I always ended up being close. It was Renault there? There's Renault? Yeah, receiver. Yeah, we won by three. I remember that. Yeah, there was a freshman. Did you kick it? Yeah, nobody ever fucking brings that up. Sorry to bring up bad memories, Pat. Everybody brings up the other one. Nobody brings up that one. That was a good memory. It was, but then it just got stomped on. It's gone forever. Anyways, we beat the shit out of Georgia that day. Let's go, Dawgs. Go, Dawgs. Go, Dawgs. He's a damn good dog. Got a lot of damn good dogs down there. None of the golfers that you told us were going to be good, but none of the golfers that we all thought were potentially going to be good are up there.
22:26Pat McAfee:Wyndham Clark is kind of out of nowhere. Tone has a question for you, Mark. Yeah, Mark, I do. Obviously, Wyndham, seven under, four-shot lead. Xander's four under the day, though. Five under. is Colin Morikawa there in second and third right now, but the leaderboard is stacked. You go down Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, Oberg, Harmon, as you mentioned, JT's top 15, Fleetwood's top 15, Rahm's top 15. There's guys that can go low. Do we think of those guys that have won major championships and guys that are obviously in the top 10 in the PGA, do we think any of them can go get them?
23:00Is Wyndham a guy that could let this shrink away come the weekend? yeah i mean he's been like i said he's been on a heater but it's you know we ain't got the halfway point so there's a lot of golf to be played i think i think the usga is going to tighten the screws here over the last 36 holes um they did what they had to do yesterday in terms of probably the easiest setup they could have out here just because you know the wind forecast they did not anticipate the uh fog in the morning and that made the greens pretty soft but They went a little more aggressive today. The wind's picked up, but it's not supposed to be nearly as bad as it was yesterday.
23:38Guys, number 11, the par 3 that Ludwig Oberd called the shortest par 5 in the history of golf. He's playing 156, and I think there's been four birdies on it. Watched DJ tee off, and his tee shot was like 25 yards short into a bunker. So, like I said, a lot left to play. you guys left off William Mao who's tied for 14th at 2-under he is the son of a chicken farmer in Chino, California Billy's Egg Farm he was up tied for 2nd but finally cracked in his 2nd major championship
24:16Pat McAfee:cracked yeah I like what we're doing I do appreciate the old writer in you you have to do it gotta keep these eyes active I've got to keep the readers guessing on where we're headed. I appreciate a good egg pun. The leaderboard looks like a little bit of nostalgia on what the PGA could look like in the weekends, right? Because the big guys aren't up there, but all the others are. And there's four Liv guys in there, obviously, with the middle of the pack or the right below second tier of the PGA with the dogs from Liv. This is what everybody you know has been saying has been missing from the last, what, four years of this entire experiment with Liv.
24:53Pat McAfee:so I think the major the US Open this weekend is going to deliver for us a lot of big names running that's whenever the leaderboard is good to watch on the weekend pal yeah I wish DJ was right up there and then he went I think he went double bogey maybe he hadn't shown up in the last couple years in the majors but he's still got a ton of talent I like DJ because the weekend before the Masters about 10 years ago he'd show up at my club and play in a tournament the weekend before the Masters and just hang out with the dudes. I mean, it was nuts. We got super talented. Yeah, super talented. And also throughout the entire live thing, never lied about any of it.
25:30Pat McAfee:No. Just kind of super transparent. Yeah, listen, man. When and if live folds, not when or if, or when, not if. You know, when they sit down and decide who's coming back and who's not, DJ may be the guy where they say, you know what? It's DJ. He can come back tomorrow. Just because everybody loves DJ. DJ never said anything bad. He didn't sue anybody. I just don't know how much he still wants to play, but obviously he's still got something in the tank. More money, less work. Yep. Who in America? I'm that kind of house. American dream. He said, I'm at peace. Man, I have my family. I enjoy my family.
26:08Pat McAfee:Everything's good. And everybody was like, all right, good for him. And then the next guy would go, he was like, the money was good, but I want to change golf. Fuck this guy. Yep. Okay. Throw the game. Yeah, we know what he exactly. What a grow the game. What a change the game. Shut up. You need to shut your mouth, okay? DJ's like, I just took the money, bro. I don't know. We're a golfer. I don't know. Let's work more money. What do you want me to do? All right, yeah. I'm golfing in Middle East. I'm golfing in Australia. You got it. Sweet. How many times? Half the times. How much more money? Ten times more money.
26:36Mark Schlabach:None deal.
26:37Pat McAfee:Fine. Guaranteed. I'll do it. Bryson. Bryson's got a little work to do, too. The cut's going to be right around three or probably three and four.
26:46Mark Schlabach:On that note, Ty has a question for you, Mark. Yeah, speaking of Bryson, Mark, I mean, you talk about guys, you know, potentially when Liv folds if they'll be coming back. It seems like any time someone asks him about it, he kind of has to put his foot in his mouth. Maybe he just wants to go play on YouTube or do whatever he's going to do. But coming into the tournament, he was still top 10 in terms of the odds of who could win this thing. And he started pretty solid yesterday, and then this morning you're looking at it and he's four over. I don't know what he is right now. Yeah, five over now.
27:18Mark Schlabach:Is this kind of like a big pivot point for Bryson's? I mean, if he does miss this cut, you know, like, what is next for Bryson? What should we expect out of him? I mean, the first time in his career he's missed the cut in three straight majors. After the round yesterday, he shot 70 last night. Bogeyed the last hole to shoot even par, but said he was going to go home and drink some chocolate milk. Obviously good for the bones, apparently not good for the swings because he's had a rough day today. But, no, you talk to people around the PGA Tour. you know he's the most polarizing probably in terms of whether or not they're going to let him come back I think there's definitely going to be a big penalty um there I was told there are guys in the PGA Tour locker room that have memorized everything negative he said about the PGA Tour over the last four or five years so there's obviously a ton of scar tissue when it comes to Bryson he's a huge name soft he's massively popular among the kids um but he may be making YouTube videos for a while before he can come back on the PGA Tour.
28:21Pat McAfee:I got good ideas because he can hit the ball so far, you see. He's a really good golfer. Great for YouTube golfing.
28:27Mark Schlabach:It's fun watching him go to just some local muni and just try to score a 22. Yeah, exactly. It's fun to watch. Kind of fun watching him shoot
28:34Pat McAfee:82. In the majors? In the majors, yeah. It's kind of fun to watch him chip it over his house. Yeah. And it's kind of fun to watch him just get so pissed off. DeChambeau is DeChambeau to kind of watch on TV, I think. And the PGA people hating him make sense on why he's so bad at the majors maybe because he doesn't like all the vibes. I feel comfortable. I mean, look, Patrick Reed wasn't the most popular guy in the world, but he came back. I think he likes that guy. He's a good man of black. Yeah, I think DeChambeau doesn't love that he's probably not like. Probably like, you have to understand where I was coming from in my entire thing.
29:07Pat McAfee:And if they are memorizing the negative things he said, he probably feels really uncomfortable in that situation. Where Patrick Reed, I don't know him personally, Feels like Patrick Reed's okay. Thrives being a dickhead. Yeah, bitch. I said that. I think that is kind of his different thing. Bryson, he's more, I guess, unlike or disliked amongst the pros and the tour players and all. That's the PGA guys. But amongst, like, fans or the casual, like, he was the most liked. Like, he completely flipped the script a couple years ago. Once he went to live, he kind of – what's that?
29:37Pat McAfee:Dustin Johnson just had a quadruple bag. Oh, no. So he was minus four last night. he's now plus four flirting with the cut.
29:44Mark Schlabach:Wait, wait, wait. So he's plus eight today? Yeah. Come on, DJ. I don't know. Did he finish minus four yesterday? They should have let him go take a two-hour nap. That's bullshit. He had to wake up that early and then just keep playing. Mark, what? He just picked up another bogey, too. He's back to even par. Oh, no. You know what?
30:03Pat McAfee:Eddie, they're all showing his teeth. These boys are starting to get shin-a-cocked right now, aren't they? They're getting shin-a-cocked. Dude, that's happening all weekend, I think. That's going to be the U.S. Open. The weekend's going to be fun. I mean, they're going to tighten the screws, and it's going to get difficult. They definitely don't want a winner at minus 10. I can promise you that. Okay. A lot of pride around here. All right. With how it started, your pick to win.
30:32Wyndham Clark.
30:33Pat McAfee:God damn it. I want him to win. All right. We appreciate you. Who do you not want to win, Pat? I'll pick you up. I know. Yeah. Yeah, anybody you said there is about to get upset about, no questions asked. I mean, yeah, Wyndham's going to feel the pressure sleeping on a 36-0 lead. I mean, Morikawa's back has been bad all year, but he's one of the best iron players in the world. I think that's one thing we've seen, the guys that can hit it straight and have good short games are rising to the top. Like we said earlier, the big names, Xander, Morikawa, Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick chunked one off the road earlier and had a couple bogeys.
31:06But Rory hadn't paid off yet. Oberg, Oberg's a talented guy. He's got a finish. He's got a finish one. Corey Connors, the pride of Canada. Hits the irons like Labatt and puts like Molson. If he can get the putter going, we got a shot.
31:23Pat McAfee:I'll tell you what. You really mapled that one together, brother. You're the absolute best. What a moose you are in the game. Ladies and gentlemen, that's Mark Schlabach. It's Schlabach. I love that, man. That was the hottest bat he's ever had. And he's had some hot bats. Yeah, he's batting 1 ,000 with us. Of course, it's starting to eat the boys up a bit. They're getting shinny-cocked. Well, what's Wyndham at? Wyndham is still seven, but he just put one in the shit again, so we'll see if he can get out of it again. We knew that the cock was going to start shinning. Yeah. Anyway, we knew that that was going to start happening.
31:56Pat McAfee:They've been talking about it. It was inevitable, especially when you've got that type of hammer that they have. Yeah. They probably stopped watering those greens, I bet. because the wind is going to die down it's like in the teens i think over the weekend which gusts probably high teens or whatever which is pretty normal i think standard stuff that happens in places 25 30 35 mile an hour gusts were drying up the greens too much they had to keep the greens wet because they had to hold the ball so as the winds go down the greens can get drier the drier the greens the less the less sticky the greens like concrete and they said that only 40 of the green is ever available to put pins on because all the rest of the greens are just basically slipped down and away to uh problem situations so they're about to get shinnecocked this weekend
32:47Mark Schlabach:scotty's gotta go okay gonna need scotty scheffler to get up there at least one under going into the
32:53Pat McAfee:weekend so what was he doing he was changing his driver there he's fighting it what's going on he's fighting it big he's got a newborn right yeah kind of has a newborn going on and we thought you know because this has happened for uh with numerous guys scotty has definitely exceeded all these guys i'm about to mention but remember jordan spieth was about to be the one brooks was going to be the one rory was going to be the one there's always going to be ricky fowler even at one point was potentially going to be the one there's always like a name that is going to go go go scotty became the one everybody's looking for him since tiger and then he's been able to run for so long it's become so impressive and then you start actually putting him in the conversation just jack and tiger it's like holy hell this is the guy that's been able to hold up are we seeing the first ever are we seeing the uh first time scotty hasn't been able to just figure it out naturally is that what we're we're seeing right now and we have no idea how long this is gonna what's he been like his last year 10 rounds okay so yesterday i did it with tariko seven of the 12 or seven of the 12 tournaments he's played in this year were top five ten were top 15.
33:54Pat McAfee:no he lost it though i know but he still that's probably why it's so frustrating every tournament he's been top 25 this year it's just when you when he did what he did and he won all those tournaments and you compare him to tiger and jack then people have those expectations and no one's tiger no i just get scared i get scared to death we're gonna lose it happened with that i get scared to death we're gonna lose it happened with um spieth uh it happened with there's another one who because the reason why tiger was awesome tiger red okay saturday moving day then we put on the power red we're finishing over it was must watch because he was literally on the prowl scotty's the same way.
34:28Pat McAfee:Scotty's never in the lead. Just if his name's in the weekend, it's like he's going. They're saying he might have lost his touch. I need him.
34:34Mark Schlabach:He'll be back. It seems like on moving day, though, like on Saturday, if he makes the cut, you'll look at it like, oh, Scotty shot a 63, and then he ends up not winning, but he's not playing very well on Thursday or Friday, and that's what's killing him.
34:49Pat McAfee:Okay, we need to stop thinking about any of this. I don't want to see any more range, Scotty Sheffler, talking to anybody negative. I'll go. only positive scottie scheffler shit he hasn't missed a cut since 2022 so well how can he win a freaking tournament joining us ladies and gentlemen is a man who might be able to tell us a little bit about golf especially over there in new york a man who can tell us a lot about the soccer the football and what is today ty it's football day ladies and gentlemen a man who has started some football controversy with the land from down under a man who went on the cbs morning show today just national news this morning and uh these hosts who have all won awards for everything probably in the hall of fame they've had their segments the way it's been grella this man we're about to bring on tells them to shut up where's my iso camera at right here please australia your ass at soccer.
35:46Pat McAfee:Okay, I don't know how to tell you this. This man has been going to bat for America very, very loud over the last couple weeks, and there's a continent that is not happy with him. And I've never seen a commentator need a win more than I think what's happening right now for this man. Ladies and gentlemen, international soccer star, CBS Sports Galazzo host, friend of the program, Paisan Michael Grella. Yay, Grandpa! How are you, buddy? What's going on, boys? How's everything? Okay, so you've been everywhere now with the Australia conversation. That CBS morning show hit today was outrageous. Awesome.
36:24Pat McAfee:You handled that so fantastic, and I'm so happy for you that you're getting a chance to chit-chat about the sport that you are obsessed with. I think that is why you're so good at your job. I think you're obsessed with it. You have been since you were a child, and we appreciate everything you say about the sport and how much you educate us. Now, with that being said, Australia hates your gut. Just getting a chance to be in your mentions, okay? Just getting a chance to be alongside of this whole thing. Boy, they are not happy with you. It feels like they are rallying around beating you. And I don't know if the boys of Team USA understand that you need this win.
36:57Pat McAfee:I think you need this win. Do you feel that as well? Like you need this win, I think, in a pretty big way. Do you feel that at all? Or are you just expecting a big win and all you're doing is talking about football? Is that all you're doing here? I got to tell you something. I don't care if they win or not. I mean, I care. I want America to win. But at the end of the day, Pat, with all this criticism that's coming my way and all this stuff going on, I had to take one take, two takes, three takes. I've gone back to do my preparation, my analysis on the match so many times because I'm like, wait, maybe I'm missing something.
37:31But there's this elephant in the room. It's the fact that Australia is not known for football. It's like saying the Egyptians getting upset because we're not saying they're good skiers. right so I keep going back to the math I keep going back to to what I know about the game and I mean maybe I'm nuts but that says plus 425 on your screen right there plus 425 and so if you want respect in football you have to earn that respect you have to go for it you have to play the game so as I said months ago which went viral layup it couldn't be more accurate one word has driven the entire country of Australia crazy and it's so accurate this is a layup for the US men's national team the level of players the level of coaching and they're on home soil this is a layup now you don't make every layup we just watched the knicks right they missed a couple layups and still went on to win it so you don't make every layup but they've got to pay attention to details a massive game but again if australia wants to respect in football they've got to invest they've got to push forward they've got to win things and i think they know themselves that that
38:32Pat McAfee:football is not their first sport fun fact the united states of america as a country that is now very confident in our team, has never won back-to-back World Cup games since 1930. 1930, a long time ago. I believe this is after the Roaring Twenties. Yes, great time. Prohibition. There's a depression coming around the corner. I don't know if they know about that or if they're being told about that. I started. Or if it's already started. Okay, they're at the beginning. And then Burt Pattenlaude, this guy, American.
39:02Mark Schlabach:Legend.
39:02Pat McAfee:One of the goats. First ever hat trick in the history of the World Cup, said Burt, United States of America. So Messi's doing this. Great. Burt said, let me show you how it does.
39:12Mark Schlabach:Learned it all from Burt.
39:13Pat McAfee:That was 1930. We're obviously in a much different time now in 2026. But this would be pretty historic for us. You talk about to the Australians, like you got to invest in soccer. You got to do that. That was kind of what was said about America for a long time. I think while we were growing up, that was certainly being said about how we need to get to the point. We need to get to the point. There was always one or two guys from a generation that were able to have success, but it was never the full team. Now we got guys that are playing all over the world. I think your confidence in Team America is different than it has been in the past, right?
39:39Pat McAfee:I think the Australians think that you have just been gassing up the Americans. That is not the case. I don't think the Australian critics know that. No, no, I believe in what I'm saying. And they're coming off their best ever performance. And Pat, you and I know because we were in that system trying to get to the national team and trying to be those guys to push the needle. These guys are really good now and they've moved the needle. And now I'm going to say it. This is a double-edged sword. The coach, Pochettino, who we spoke about the other day, he's coming out and saying we can win him. Let's believe we can win it because if we start to believe, we start to open up, there he is with the dog.
40:11Like, that comes with responsibility. That comes with saying, okay, we're going to beat Australia. We're here. We're brave. We're going to put our chests out. We're going to win this game on home soil. We're going to start to dominate. We're going to send messages to the rest of the world. Now, you can't say you want to win the thing and be one of the best teams in the world and then be like, oh, you know, we're a little worried about Australia. You know, it's a difficult game. You can't have it both ways. You can't be a champion and also be worried about Australia. I know France is not worried about Australia.
40:40I know Spain's not worried about Australia. So if the U.S. want to go to the high levels, they've got to start to act like champions as well. So this game on home soil, I want to see them full throttle.
40:52Pat McAfee:Yeah, me too. I would like to see it as well. And DraftKings has a phenomenal promo happening right now. The America Game 2 guarantee. If you're 21 plus and if you gamble responsibly and you're not an asshole, we would love for you to come join us on DraftKings as you have to opt in and then you have to apply the token on a three-way USA wager. If USA wins, obviously you win the bet. If they draw or lose, you get the money back in bonus bets. You cannot cash out the bonus bet. Obviously, you have to re-bet the bonus bet. But if you win there, you can cash that out. So what are we doing here? We're team riding on USA.
41:26Pat McAfee:Now, on that note of team riding USA, I think we would do that naturally, blindly. I know you have not done that, but D-Bud has a question for you. Yeah, Grell, I know you know, Ball. Look, Australia, yeah, but you got to play the game. We know that. But what are our odds? What are our chances? Not the odds, not the DraftKings odds. According to you, what are our chances to actually win this thing? I know you know Ball, football, American football. Give me like an NFL comparison of a team going into this season. If this team can win the Super Bowl, and compare that to our chance to actually win this whole thing.
41:58Because looking at that Hembo stat, that doesn't make me feel great. But you said it's our best team ever. So tell me. Let me know. Yes, I like that. Who was the team that finished, like, in the semifinal of football this year? It was semi-final.
42:13Mark Schlabach:It was Ramsey, Broncos, and it was, yeah, Pat Broncos.
42:17Pat McAfee:Texans?
42:18Mark Schlabach:Texans were in the divisional round. Maybe a little bit like the Texans. had some tools, had some excitement around it, but never really ever going to win it. With all due respect, it takes time to win this. Only eight countries have ever won this competition. It's not easy, but yeah, it's difficult. So can they make a semifinal? That's going to be progress. Hold on, hold on. Let's hit the brakes. Let's hit the brakes for a second.
42:45Pat McAfee:There's only been eight countries that have ever won the World Cup? Yeah. That's a fucking crazy stat. How many countries are there? I just learned about Copa Verde. 160. There's 48. No, but there's more than that. There's a bet on DraftKings. You can pick a team that hasn't won it before. It's plus 190. So you get USA, Netherlands. There's a bunch of good teams who haven't won it.
43:05Mark Schlabach:The Dutch have never won
43:07Pat McAfee:it? It's made it to two finals, I believe. Eight teams? Only eight countries have had a World Cup parade? Holy shit. We got to lock in. We have not earned anything yet, boys. We are a long way away. It feels like. Jeez. But I got to tell you something. This game, I know it's become big because of the comments or whatever, but at the end of the day, if the U.S. want to be counted and stand up, they got to move the needle towards even trying to win this thing, like the manager has been saying. So today is just one step along the way. If they can't beat teams like Australia, and again, with all due respect, I love Australia.
43:40I play with a bunch of Australians, but they have a lot of championship players in their team. That's second division England. The U.S. have Champions League players in their team. There's a big distinction. There's a big gap between those two leagues. So I'm not part of the U.S. men's national team. I can go out and say whatever I like. I understand if I'm in the camp, if I'm in the U.S. camp, I'm saying, hey, we got to respect them. Hey, it's a tough game for sure. But I'm not in that camp. So I'm just calling out the elephant in the room. And I think a lot of sports, people in sports today and people in sports media, especially in soccer media, I think they're scared to say it, man.
44:12Yes, they are. Scared to damage relationships. Scared to damage relationships. And they're scared for people not to like them. But there's an elephant in the room, and that's that Australia's not very good at football, and the U.S. is on their own.
44:23Pat McAfee:Okay, you brought that back to Australia. I love you doing that for the entirety of it all, and I do appreciate America getting a win for you today. We need it for you, Grella, for the rest of this World Cup trip. Let's get it done. Let's get it done. But it did feel like that, because I saw The Athletic put out a poll where the writers said if you had to re-rank the teams after the first game, not like how you think it'll end, but re-ranking after each team has played once, so after what you've seen. and they had America at 17, which is, I think, where we were ranked originally. I think it was a lot of people that didn't want to feel as if they were disrespecting the sport, and they didn't want to lose their friend's respect in the soccer world, saying that they liked America and appear as if they didn't know ball, didn't know footy.
45:03Pat McAfee:You know, because, like, we as dumb Americans say the United States of America soccer team is going to win it all. Obviously, if you know footy, this is not, like, reality. So I think they just misread the situation because I think people that are actually in soccer now, yourself included, are like, hey, actually, America looks like a good team. And I think these people that took this vote thought that maybe, you know, we're still maybe just overdoing it a little bit. You know, it does feel as if a lot of American soccer people, super soccer people are the ones that are pushing back against us saying we're winning the World Cup the most because they don't want to be embarrassed as footy fans.
45:39Pat McAfee:and I would just like to let everybody know we're winning the fucking World Cup.
45:43Mark Schlabach:Can't live in your fears.
45:44Pat McAfee:What are we even talking about? Nice nation coming. What are we even talking about? England's only got it one time. They chirp a lot. Spain? Only one time in their history and it was on home soil in 1966. It came home.
45:57Mark Schlabach:And the only reason they were good is because, you know, in 1944, all of our guys were over there fighting a war.
46:03Pat McAfee:So it was in 1966. I mean, they're all kids. A one's on the board. Let's relax. Well said, Connor. Guess what they had to do right after that? Vietnam. Okay. I think they were on our side with some of that. The Spain, though, only having won crazy, I would have thought a lot more than that. Yeah. This has been a pretty enlightening conversation here, and all it took was, hey, listen, boys, only eight countries have ever won this thing. It's like, whoa, whoa, whoa. We started looking around. I know eight countries I can hit a seven iron to in certain parts of the world. So it is a tough thing. Hey, it's World Cup.
46:35Pat McAfee:That's why it's World Cup. It's World Cup. You've got to go and get it. England only has one. About the time. Aren't they, like, kind of considered the – they're like, you think soccer, you think England, don't you kind of think? The greatest league in the world.
46:48Mark Schlabach:Oh, then America. Absolutely. You think EPL. Absolutely. It turns out for him, it looks like all the guys in that league aren't from England. Oh. That's true. They got a lot of foreigners. But still, one of the best leagues in the world, great country, whatever. But if you want to get on this list, going back to the U.S., like, you got to be brave, man. I don't think Michael Jordan went into games and was scared of the opponent. I don't think he was like, oh, I don't know about these guys. He went in and was like, I'm going to dominate you today. And that was it. And that's got to be the attitude if you want to be elite.
47:14Mark Schlabach:Ty, here's a question for you, Grella. Love everything you're saying, Grella. I mean, you are just speaking to me right now. In terms of the style of play today, though, how early on in this game will you kind of know, like, okay, we're in a good spot. I think they are going to dominate. Because obviously right out of the shoot in the previous game, it was like, oh, we're going to beat the shit out of Paraguay. But how early on will you feel, feel maybe like or get a good feel of how the game is going to go when it comes to this game today against Australia? I think I'm pretty sure I already know how the game is going to go.
47:48Australia is going to play in a 5-4-1. They're going to be pretty defensive. They're going to sit in. If they expose themselves, they'll get killed with the pace that we have in the team. So they're going to sit in. We're going to press them just like we did to Parga. We're going to win pressure, press the balls after loss. So we're going to be all over them. Now, Australia will be deeper and more compact. So it's going to, there's going to be an element of patience that's required. So it's going to look very similar to Paraguay, but it might take time to get the first goal. If we score first, bring it to the bank.
48:15Bring the three points to the bank if we score first. If Australia score first, which is what happened against Turkey, then it becomes a much trickier game because Australia will sit in and they'll make it really difficult. I mean, like I said the other day, Australia had 28 % possession of the ball and they only took nine shots. So they were not very good, but they found a way to win the game. I think the U.S. has to make sure that they're careful on the counter, defensive transition, but like if they score first it's going to be uh it's going to be party time okay well america
48:41Pat McAfee:continue to attack if we score first because it does feel as if we have the strategy where we might give one up like will that make australia kind of break their defensive formation to kind of try to get a couple more opportunities against us it feels like we're not as scared to maybe give up a goal but i've heard australia locks it down so like yeah do you think we changed the the pace in which we were playing uh from last game or do you think we tried to do the same stuff against Australia because I think Paraguay was also a super defensive team in before face USA as well is it going to bode well for us the same way there that you're on the money uh you're 100 % on the money it's going to matter the timing of the of the first goal I think is going to be important but I think um the second thing is the U.S.
49:24to have conceded easy goals so they're going to go for it they're going to step on the gas they're going to play full throttle 90 minutes That's what my expectations are, at least. The last goal the U.S. scored against Paraguay, actually, Gio Rena, with the outside of the foot, the little Travella, that was a 26-pass sequence where the U.S. were very smart. They said, no problem, we're winning. You guys come to us. Expose yourself. So if the U.S. are winning by two or one and it's very late and they kind of just invite Australia into the game, that's when Australia will be disjointed and they'll be able to pick them apart with hopefully a 20-pass sequence or a 15-pass sequence and then go and finish them off.
49:59So game management's important, but the athleticism jumped off the page in the first game. I expect to see it today. I'm excited for the game. I hope they win. They have the quality to win. But again, you got to go and make that layup. You got to go and execute it.
50:13Pat McAfee:Backdoor over cover, potentially. Okay. Whenever we're... Live bet. Oh, yeah. Yeah, whenever we're pinging it around, because you get them sucked up. Normally, they're parked in. You get them sucked up. Somebody gets a little greedy, thinks they're going to get it. That's right. And then... Battle again. And then Desk right around him. Guys behind him. Now we got another guy that comes up.
50:31Mark Schlabach:Into the mixer.
50:33Pat McAfee:Beautiful.
50:35Mark Schlabach:Hell yeah.
50:35Pat McAfee:In the 91st, you know, in the 89th. Would love that. 91st, something like that. But I'll tell you what, the big large lads from Australia can certainly park the bus and just make this a very cagey, boring affair. Over-under is 2.5. 2.5. Yeah, I believe 2.5. That's a low number. Now, on that note, it feels like soccer is different. Go ahead, Tone. Yeah, Grilla. It feels like now, correct us if we're wrong, because we just come in and we're like, oh, it's going to be a lot of low-scoring games because that's what soccer is. There's only been one 0-0 draw. Sorry, nil-nil draw in the World Cup. That was obviously Capo Verde and Spain, which was insane that it happened in that game.
51:10There's a lot of games where both teams are scoring. Is that abnormal or are we wrong? And why do you think there has been so much scoring, it feels like, in this World Cup? First of all, I know you guys are obviously big football guys. When you guys score one touchdown, you count it as six points. So if we did that, we'd have high-scoring games also.
51:27Pat McAfee:Shut up. Shut up. Shut up. Stick to what you're talking about. It's a great point. Shut up. Shut up, Gumby. Just get to the point of your boring-ass sport. It feels like it's not as boring right now. Oh, the game was great. It was 21-14. It was 3-2, guys. Okay, there was extra points in there, too. You're losing us. We don't end nil-nil either. Okay, please, please, don't do this to Australia. You did it to Australia. Don't do it to football. Okay, don't do it to – Don't do it that. But it does feel like it's a more attacking style of a sport now than maybe it was in the past five, ten years ago, or are we just kind of misunderstanding?
52:04No, it is. It is. The modern game has moved into what people want to see, and they're higher up the field. They press higher up the field. It's almost like when you watch the NCAA basketball, like how teams will do a full press. So, you know, you win the ball higher up, so you have more chances. You're closer to the opponent's goal. It's also been celebrated. The Bayern Munich PSG game where they scored, I don't know, nine goals in one game or whatever. That's been the way to push it. Now, if I'm getting into a fight with a 6 '6", ex-professional boxer, I'm not going to fight him straight up. I might run.
52:35I might pick up a weapon. I have to find a way to compete against this guy. And that's basically what Australia is going to do. Australia is going to sit in. They can't play toe-to-toe because you just can't because you don't have the tools to do it. So they're going to make it difficult, and they're going to make it slow, and they're going to want to keep a draw. And so we'll see how the U.S. deal with that because we know we have all tools, but can we manage those moments to understand what they're doing and not expose ourselves like Turkey did? Turkey didn't have enough respect, and then they lost 2-0.
53:02So they got surprised.
53:03Pat McAfee:They got a cover-to-shell here. Quarterback can't get bored. That's basically what this entire thing is. You just got to make sure whenever you get your moment, you got to hit it. Deploy the Pentagon. Well, we will, but that's for a defensive effort. They have cover-to-shell right there. This is what Australia is doing. They just got cover two back there, so we're just going to have to wait.
53:25Mark Schlabach:Luckily, we got a bunch of cover two beaters out there. Yes, we do. And punches.
53:31Pat McAfee:Dialing them all up while looking cooler than everybody. Now, maybe our best player has certainly got a question. Last question here for you. Go ahead.
53:36Mark Schlabach:Yeah, Grello, hopefully it doesn't matter. Socceroos, soccer poos, if you will. But Pulisic kind of has a calf injury right now. It doesn't look too good. He didn't actually participate in training practice. And he was kind of off to the side. But what is kind of the plan? Are we worried if we don't have Pulisic or because of the quality of our players, it doesn't matter as much without him? He's a big miss, obviously, but we shouldn't be worried. Every team that wants to compete in the World Cup and do anything. I mean, we just saw kind of with the Knicks, right? Probably not the best individuals, but the best team hands down, right?
54:09And so I think the U.S. is a little bit like that. They're not relying on one guy. Pulisic is obviously a really important piece, but he's not the only piece. So I think they'll be okay. And the tournament's long. the format's a little longer they added an extra game uh so you've got to really manage guys and rotate guys i think that's going to be a key if you want to go later into the into the later rounds what do you got today what are you doing today all right we're doing uh coverage on the on the goloso network we'll be covering it from 1 30 on to 6 and i'm sure it's going to get rowdy and it's going to be it's going to be exciting so we'll see we'll have a bunch of guests and see where the game takes us but uh hopefully we get a good result i left i left my house this morning pat my kids were like, Dad, hopefully you have friends.
54:50They're so invested in it. Hey, we're hoping too, buddy. Guys, don't worry about it. I still gotta pay my mortgage at the end of the month. Don't worry about it.
54:58Pat McAfee:That's what we're saying. That's what we're all saying. I don't know if we ever see you on camera again if America doesn't win. No, they wouldn't sack him. No, I know they wouldn't, but I don't know.
55:08Mark Schlabach:Oh, you think he might get killed by an Australian? No, that's what I'm saying. Some Americans. They're all big. Don't worry, I carry. Don't worry.
55:19Pat McAfee:I might look like a little Italian around there I got weapons, I'm a 6 '4 guy I'll go pick something up You're the best, ladies and gentlemen From the Galazzo Network, Michael Garela United States, Australia Takes off at 3 o 'clock 6 o 'clock, Scotland, Morocco Brazil, Haiti, Turkey, Paraguay And that clock right there Is to kick off, or schedule kick off Even though it'll 15 minutes after that Can you see it, Ty?
55:46Mark Schlabach:I don't know if I'm on point with the time. Are you fucking kidding me? Of course I can. How much time we got?
55:50Pat McAfee:Two hours and four minutes.
55:51Mark Schlabach:Okay, thank you. You can see it. No. I mean, I see there's something on the screen. No chance. Yeah. What do you mean? You can't see it either, right? Yeah, I got great fucking thing.
55:59Pat McAfee:And I got terrible eyes, so. 204, 27, 26, 25, you know.
56:05Mark Schlabach:I see the red, white, and blue kind of hodgepodge thing. Yeah, deal.
56:09Pat McAfee:I think it's a good addition.
56:11Mark Schlabach:Oh, yeah. I assume on a 185 inch TV that's probably pretty big. You got a projector.
56:18Pat McAfee:But you see what we're trying to do.
56:22Mark Schlabach:Now you got it? It doesn't help. I still can't. It actually makes it worse. I'll get eyes on it at the break.
56:35Mark Schlabach:I wish I could. You can't see it either. No, I've had 10. You got glasses on. You probably can't even see it. Nobody can. That's a sign for ants. Nobody can see it. I can see it. No, you can't. I could. I was just doing a countdown. Yeah, I mean, I can see there's a thing on there, but you can't see the clock. You can't see it. I did the countdown. Somebody's in your ear.
56:55Pat McAfee:We're back on the other side. Goodbye.

57:47Pat McAfee:sports the greatest of all time and obviously team usa takes on Australia at 3 o 'clock today, live from Seattle. That countdown right there, 159-10. Did we make it smaller during the break? 08-07 is until kickoff as USA obviously continues its road to the World Cup championship as we have the best team in the tournament. So we have no idea if that's true or not, but we certainly would like to believe that. Our team is young. Our team is fast. Our team is physical. Our team is good. Our team is talented. And our team doesn't flop around. Our team doesn't take any shit. our team represents America and they're taking on a team that represents a continent of dogs.
58:24Pat McAfee:Now, we have a lot of respect for the people of Australia. I had a chance to be down there in Brisbane. Yeah. Everybody's big, in shape, fit, and they all dress interestingly. It didn't feel like every person I saw, now I was in the city and people are going to work, so they're obviously dressing for their jobs and stuff like that. But it felt like everybody was in some sort of costume. Everybody was in shape. The food was spectacular. The people obviously love sport. and the fact that they're able to beat Turkey in their first game I think was a big surprise to a lot of people. But if Team USA just goes ahead and gets a massive win in Seattle, it's going to be loud, by the way.
58:58Pat McAfee:It's going to be loud in Seattle. We know the Pacific Northwest soccer fans are gigantic because the Portland Timbers and the boys up there. The Sounders. And the Sounders up there. They have a big fan base. And obviously a lot of Team USA fans are up there. And that stadium is built to be loud. So let's assume that this is going to be an incredible atmosphere. The boys are going to be ready for it. Will that man be playing? Christian Pulisic, we're not 100 % sure. There's been no confirmation. Sky Sport out of Italy is reporting that he is fully available. And obviously, he played in Italy, so there are some connections to that particular media outlet.
59:28Pat McAfee:So maybe Christian Pulisic is playing today, and maybe we see the same starting 11 that we saw against Paraguay. And if that's the case, we get a chance maybe to see another masterclass, but also that starting 11 get a chance to continue to play with each other. Chris Richards, we had him on. This man right over there, 83 for 83 on his passes in the defensive back. He said that was the first time these 11 guys were on the field together playing against somebody. That was really the first time they were really getting a chance to do that. So the more time they have on the field together, especially as everybody is seemingly interchangeable, other than two back guys, Ream and Chris Richards, obviously we're only going to get better and better, we think.
1:00:01Pat McAfee:So maybe Paraguay was just the start of something special, and maybe today that continues, or maybe today is a cagey affair against an Australia team that's a little bit stot in the back. We are excited that soccer is doing its thing, and once again, that countdown in the corner is how far away we are from kickoff. Once kickoff happens, you will not be able to join us on the America Game 2 Guarantee, only on DraftKings. Please come join us if you're 21 plus and make a promise to gamble responsibly. We don't like assholes. You're not going to become a multi-billionaire from gambling. Nobody has a clue what's going to happen.
1:00:30Pat McAfee:But what we do know is if you opt in to the Game 2 Guarantee at DraftKings and then you apply the token after you've picked your three-way wager on Team USA, you will get your money back that you wagered in a bonus bet for the future if America draws or loses. So, this feels like a good time. Let's go.
1:00:49Mark Schlabach:Great time.
1:00:49Pat McAfee:Let's ride. Pumped. The Toxist Tables here at Boston Corner and at Ty Schmidt. Ty Schmidt, soccer fever is for real.
1:00:56Mark Schlabach:It is. It is. And again, I don't know how many times I've said it, and this is not just me saying this just to say it. I don't like soccer. I don't like watching it. Don't really care about any of it. I have World Cup fever. I feel like I would take a bullet for all 11 boys who are going to be out there on the pitch today would definitely take a bullet to the skull for Pochettino, no questions asked. And his dog. And his dog. That's my gaffer. I just, man, I've got these visions in my head of what today is going to be, so I really, really hope it goes that way because I do not want to kind of come to the realization of what it could potentially be on the other side of that.
1:01:35Pat McAfee:Now, Conman, you are not somebody that will come out and say that you hate soccer, but you've watched every single minute, it feels like, of this World Cup. You certainly got the fever, and Scotland is helping. There is now a business agreement, brother-sister-town situation going on, between the city of Boston and Scotland. Just the entire country of Scotland, I believe that was announced. This is all because of the World Cup. It's a beautiful thing. Is that a part of why you've been so invested in the tournament, or is that only helping the entire country?
1:02:02Mark Schlabach:I think that's definitely a part of it. I think we're also just kind of staring down the barrel of the summer. We don't run into these opportunities as much. Obviously, beautiful. Michelle Wu, the mayor, announced plans for the new partnership. Should be fantastic. Probably going to get some direct flights. I've seen some people suggesting maybe we add a commuter rail straight from Scotland over the Atlantic. It's not a bad idea.
1:02:22Pat McAfee:We've been waiting for one of those, right? Why not you guys?
1:02:25Mark Schlabach:Yeah, not a bad idea at all. Boston and Scotland pulling that one off? I think it'd be cool. I think if we got the Scottish psychopath, Drew McIntyre, maybe building it, breaking ground. Or be the conductor. Or be the conductor. I know he's not a psychopath. I know he's quite serious. Oh, my God.
1:02:39Pat McAfee:The, um, the, uh. The Claymore. The Claymore kick. Not one, not two, but three. Three Claymore kicks. That's the front of the train.
1:02:48Mark Schlabach:Good idea.
1:02:48Pat McAfee:Him with his foot. That boot. That's like the front of the train. You know, like the entire, yeah, the big boot that he has there for that. That's from Boston to Scotland. But we have seen a lot of coming together. And, uh, I think that's been a beautiful thing for the World Cup. Obviously, we appreciate that. One half of the hammer. Done. Cowboys AP Tony's here looking sweet. nine-year NFL vet, Darius J. Butler is here. Yes, sir. D. Butcher, some things happening around the football world that have certainly got us excited. The Indianapolis Colts made a massive play to bring in corner sauce Gardner last year from the Jets, including two first-round picks.
1:03:21Pat McAfee:This year's obviously next year's as well. It's a lot. Whoa, more than Miles Garrett. Yep. Holy hell. Locked down corner. And also, not just a lock down corner. Yeah, he is.
1:03:34Mark Schlabach:All those George Pickens highlights we show, he's...
1:03:37Pat McAfee:George Pickens is a great player. You're going to have those every once in a while. When you live in the paint, every once in a while you're going to get dunked on. With that being said, we are happy that Sauce Gardner is an Indianapolis Colt, and we're excited for everybody to be healthy on the Colts. And if he's the missing piece, which he might be, Colts might win the Super Bowl. And obviously that is a spectacular thing. Now, on the flip side of that, it might lose, and then who knows what the future looks like, and then we don't have a first-round pick. There's always a negative that could come from that.
1:04:01Pat McAfee:Very big positive just came out, though. He's not as old as everybody thinks he is. What? He's got another year eligibility, basically. Go ahead, D-Bud. Have we ever seen this before? I'm pretty sure. I haven't done the research, but it has to be the first time in NFL history where we've made the trade, obviously a big splash trade for an all-pro corner, and then he got a year younger somehow. I think that's what every GM would want. You know, as players, especially skilled players, once you get near that 30-year-old mark, that's when they try to call you old man, hey, get your money before that.
1:04:31Already got paid, and now, no, I'm not 25. I'm actually 24. Good gimmick. Good gimmick to start. Maybe this is a trend that gets going, but, I mean, lockdown corner, look. Yes, we paid a lot. A lot of people are going to say we overpaid. Now, if Sauce comes back, he's the best corner again next year, and then the year after that, and then the year after that and win a couple Super Bowls, did we really overpay? No. So, I like the move. I love that we have a lockdown corner. It's a premier player at a premier position. I can't wait to see Sauce go to work.
1:05:00Pat McAfee:So, what happened here? Like, he said I identify as a 24-year-old? Or, like, did he say my birthday's wrong? Like, how does it work? Did someone say happy 25th birthday? He's like, no, actually, I'm 24. I thought, when is his birthday? August 31st. I would like his birthday to be a Super Bowl. And that's going to be the day that he's going to be birthed as the Indianapolis Colt legend forever. As he steals with a pick six. I cannot wait to watch it. Cooper DG. Bingo. That's it. Sauce. That's what they're going to say in that entire thing. And then he's going to be able to do it for another year, inevitably, at the end of this entire thing.
1:05:29Pat McAfee:And that's special. And I would like all of our good players to add another year to their life. Yeah. To their prime. I would like Alec Pierce to also do this. I would like Daniel Jones to also do this. Is Pierce healthy yet? No.
1:05:40Mark Schlabach:No, he's not. They're saying like midway through training camp. I'm very worried about the Colts because we go to a lot of games and we're staring down the barrel of a sturdy five wins. Hold on. Was this like a Danny Almonte situation where he lied and then he's like, cool, we don't have to lie anymore now? Or just like a Juan Soto situation where you're like, I'm 26, but everyone knows you're like 32, but you're just like 26. Trust me.
1:06:04Pat McAfee:So we think, so there's a variety of different ways we could have got here. Yeah. Because the lying about the thing could have been like way long ago. Long time ago. Long time ago. It used to be cool to lie about you. Did he reclassify him or older? It did. Yeah, so he would say he was older, so football, they probably expedited him through stuff, right? if he's a year older they probably put you get through something quicker probably right
1:06:29Mark Schlabach:or he was so good that they maybe wanted him like playing up with older kids
1:06:33Pat McAfee:like how did we get here I would be interested to see that it all revolves it all revolves around him being a very good football we got a 24 year old 24 year olds playing in college
1:06:43Mark Schlabach:right now I love it how long has he been in the NFL since he's 16 I was going to say his rookie year
1:06:49Pat McAfee:he's 18 yeah that's who we got Yeah. Yes. That is who we have. We are excited about that. Now, speaking of legendary game wrecking corners, joining us now might just be one of those. Not only now where he is in high school, but in college, wherever he decides to go into the pros. This guy, 6 '2". Let me get his exact dims. 6 '2", 175-pound corner. In high school? High school. Damn. So he's going to be 6 '2", 190 probably. Oh, yeah. 6 '2", 190, maybe 192, 195 there. We watch his highlights. Thumper. Ladies and gentlemen, the number one corner in the country. Wants to tell us and the world where he's headed.
1:07:36Pat McAfee:Do we got a commitment? We do.
1:07:42Hey, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Hey, hit, hit, hit. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. It's a big day for some big names. Locking in the play and some big game. It's a big day for some big names. Locking in the play and some big game. Where you going next? Recruiting is like chess. Got a 4-D if you want to be the best. Announce it on the show, where you gonna go? Everybody waiting, they all want to know It's a big day for some big names Locking in the play, some big games
1:08:19Pat McAfee:It's a big day for some big names Locking in the play, some big games Who's going where next? Well, let's travel to Fort Worth, Texas The number one corner in the country Ladies and gentlemen, John Meredith
1:08:34Mark Schlabach:Yay, Johnny!
1:08:36Pat McAfee:How are you, boss? and i might be muted on our end hold on it might be muted on our end can you hear us yes sir yes sir john great to see you man thanks for letting us be a part of this how are you doing i'm doing good doing good just blessed blessed for this opportunity okay let's show the full screen here because obviously you have texas a &m you have texas you have alabama you're the number one corner in the country i assume every single school in the world has wanted your services on their football team congratulations on that let's go back you're 6-2 175 now we immediately see that and go holy hell the possibilities are endless here when did you become this high profile recruit and can you take me back to the beginning of your recruitment and how it all started oh man for it was just more like uh i didn't really have a goal i just wanted i did have a goal i just wanted to be the best one out there so like as a young player i was everything i did it was more natural.
1:09:34So like the good plays I did was like, it wasn't, it was skilled, but like, it was, I don't know how to say it, but like, it was natural. But like when college has seen it, it's just like, they could progress what I'm already. No, dang.
1:09:47Pat McAfee:Yep. You got it. You got it. They can make you even better than what you already have. Your natural talent. Yeah. Yeah. I understand. In watching your film, it's very much like that. You pass guys off, you're picking routes, your football IQ seemingly has to be something that's just natural in there. But can we talk a little bit about that? Your love of the game, love of sport and football iq you're from the state of texas so obviously football is a way of life down there when did you fall in love with the sport it's very obvious you do love it uh since i was like four four or three uh football wasn't a choice at first he just my dad didn't want me sitting home sitting down at home so he just threw me a sports what position do you always play corner were you a wide receiver quarterback and what other positions you play i have played quarterback running back and like safety how about hoops you play hoops oh yeah i used to hoop i was a small forward shooting guard you can't shoot anymore though huh you lost that no i can shoot okay all right i didn't know i didn't know all right john we appreciate you so much for letting us be a part of your day here if you'd like to let the world know where you're going to take your football talent to next i think we'd all enjoy that brother
1:10:57I want to thank before I get to choose the decision I want to thank I got to do it after that's going to give it all for years I want to take my talents to the University of Texas I said it wrong
1:11:16Pat McAfee:you did good man you did good man Hey, you did good, dude. Congratulations. I want to let you know you did perfect. Don't worry about any of the delivery. I think the end game was 100 % accurate. I believe you're with your family over there. I want to give them a shout-out. Congratulations to your mom, dad, family, sister Taylor, mom, Chasity, nephew Bryson's in there, to everybody, the family. Congratulations. And to you, congrats. Why did you want to go to Texas, and inevitably what led you here? because the best day in Texas so I knew I was going to go to a Texas school I'm real real close to Coach O I want to thank Coach Coach O, Coach Shark Coach Brandon
1:12:06the whole coaching staff they've been hunting with me from the get go I think it was just time for me to do my own thing a lot of people assumed I was going to go somewhere but I think I'm just different. So I think I wanted to go to the University of Texas. That's what I feel like I'll be best fitted in.
1:12:25Pat McAfee:Everybody that's at the top of their bucket or skill in life is different. So keep doing that. Work your ass off. I can't wait to see you down there in Austin. Congratulations, man. Yes, sir. Congratulations. Ladies and gentlemen, John Meredith. Yeah, John. Let's go. Congratulations down there. Sark gets a highly, highly touted recruit out of Texas. Yeah, Sark, I mean, Texas, they're always going to get the talent. I'm excited to watch him play. Anytime you got a corner with those type of Dems, we just talk about Sauce Garner. One of his big things, his length, his size, you can get those hands on people.
1:12:59And he has ball skills. You talked about it too, watching his tape. You can tell, especially in high school, when a guy is prepared, he knows what the hell is going on. Same in college, same in pro. Everybody has the athletic gifts. But if you know what's going on, you can anticipate things. that helps you play a lot better and a lot faster. So hopefully we see him on the field kind of as soon as he gets there. You guys have one more year in high school, right?
1:13:20Pat McAfee:Yeah, but I don't know if he's playing. There's some transfer thing that's going on with him. There is some story. Probably a coach hating. Well, that's kind of what – Hopefully he'll figure it out. That is one of the quotes from John's agent's side actually said that, that coach potentially hating a little bit in his own ways. That's right. From what we read. That's what happens. But it appears as if, let's say he doesn't get to play his senior year, then he's what, just preparing to go to Texas? Yeah.
1:13:48Mark Schlabach:In the state of Texas? Maybe early enrollee. Yeah, he'd graduate from high school early and maybe be there several months earlier than he would have been even if he was an early enrollee.
1:13:57Pat McAfee:6 '2", 190 is big, which is what he's going to be. I mean, he's 6 '2", 175, but he's going to be 6 '2", 190 probably within the first part. Overnight. And he hits. Yeah. A lot of hitting. Wait, almost too much hitting, I think, but at 6 '2", I appreciate that he probably feels like he has to do that. What do you think he will do? What is a projected 6 '2", 190 thumper? Is that corner? That's outside corner. Like you said, in the NFL, you don't want to be a corner known for your hitting, but you've got to be a willing tackler. You've got to be able to get guys down in space. But, I mean, the primary thing you've got to be able to cover.
1:14:31If you can create turnovers for your defense, that's the biggest asset you can be to a team. So we saw he has ball skills. We know he's not scared to hit. When you are in high school, yeah, you want to see a lot of physicality. You want to see defeating blocks. You want to see blowing up guys in the backfield. And you saw all those things and more on this tape. Congrats to John Meredith and to Sark. Hell yeah. Hell yeah.
1:14:51Pat McAfee:Arch down there. He won't play with John Meredith unless Arch stays another year. There was numbers out there. Possible. Yeah. Never know. All his uncles did. Who's going to win the national championship in college football this year? You think Ohio State's just going to go quietly into the night after last year? Nope. I got a chance. Chris Henry and Jeremiah. Indiana's doing a full reload. They got to do a full reload, but it's a high-end reload. It'll be great again. And Signetti's an unbelievable coach, and everybody down there is an unbelievable coach. Could be the year for Oregon. Oregon.
1:15:24Pat McAfee:Literally everyone back. Notre Dame. Miami reloaded. Notre Dame's got a lot of guys back. Notre Dame quarterback. Hey. Malachi's back. Georgia exists, and they brought everybody back, and Kirby's still Kirby. So that – Kalen DeBoer, right? I mean, Alabama still has, what, like four first ranked recruits in their system right now? A &M. If you remember last year, last year the whole thing coming in, we talked about all these quarterbacks who we had never seen before. Like Julian Sane, we never saw before. CJ Carr, we never saw before. Arch Manning, we never saw before. Dante Moore was not – well, he was a starter at UCLA, but he wasn't a starter for Oregon.
1:16:00So, like, there was so many questions last year. Now every single one of those guys, Trinidad's coming back. Everyone's coming back this year to their schools. So less questions, probably a lot more teams that have the high-end talent. Oh, miss. We didn't even mention that. LSU. Is Sellers going to be what he was supposed to be last year? Lagway?
1:16:18Pat McAfee:Yeah. Do we believe in LSU? Does he make that jump? Lenoris lost to – I believe in LSU. I believe in LSU. Who's that quarterback? Sam Levin. They have the most expensive roster. And I think Lane wins games, right? Yeah. I think that is just what Lane – And the money does usually work. Yeah. Actually. Yeah, exactly.
1:16:33Mark Schlabach:I mean, they killed it in the portal. They got so many good guys. Portal King, you know.
1:16:37Pat McAfee:Yeah, exactly. Portal King down there. Mm-hmm. That game in Oxford. Week three, baby. Oh, game day is not announced to be going today. Sure, definitely not. Why would they?
1:16:47Mark Schlabach:I think because JMU takes on an Ohio Bobcast. Now they might be going to the Cyhawk game.
1:16:52Pat McAfee:Hold on, no.
1:16:53Mark Schlabach:Let's not do that. What you just did right there. JMU, for me, was single-handedly the best game day experience I've ever actually been at. And Signetti was.
1:17:02Pat McAfee:Yeah, but if LSU at Ole Miss is the weekend, let's do that. But if it's not like that and there is a once-in-a-lifetime game, and once again, I do not have the vote. I'm the new guy there, okay? That whole thing on where we're going. Although it was nice to be heard a couple times this past year. But it's like if there's a once-in-a-lifetime type college football atmosphere going to be somewhere, it's like I think game day should be good.
1:17:27Mark Schlabach:Yes, it feels like there is still a very clear cut, like this is the place to be this weekend. And, you know, it doesn't always end up going there. But I feel like you can kind of circle one or two games every single weekend where it's like these stand head and shoulders above the rest. There is a once-in-a-lifetime app through that weekend. It's LSU at a while. Oh, yeah, exactly.
1:17:46Pat McAfee:But future weeks. Yeah, yeah. We get to like week 8, 9, 10. Yes, that time. There's like some games where there's like, is this one? Oh, certainly two good teams, yes. But also. I've already been there sometimes. Can't do that. Although we love those places. It is hard to recreate the same awesome thing. It's a festival that just happened. So then we're doing another one. But some places obviously earn it and deserve that whole thing. But, yeah, I'm a big fan of the Montana State. Yes, agreed. JMU is the one. You know, Cal out there obviously counts because of what was happening out there at the time.
1:18:20Over, like, with all due respect to, like, Georgia, Tennessee or something. But, you know.
1:18:26Pat McAfee:Great game. Kansas TCU that year. Great game. It depends on if they're both undefeated, too. But if one of them is not, and it's like, that's a very difficult thing. But I think also, if you listen to the college football people that want to bring everybody under one umbrella, they would say, like, the scheduling each week, we could certainly all work together to make sure that every weekend has, like, a loaded schedule. Because that's good for our sport as well. Oh, yeah. Because there are some weekends where it feels like every conference is, like, resting their teams. And it's kind of all on the same thing.
1:18:56Pat McAfee:I think as we continue to get to a more formalized business of college sports and college football, which is right around the corner. Big vote yesterday. That feels like something that was big this week. As we continue to get to that, I think the missed weekends, not that there is any missed weekends, the NFL has some missed weekends. So it's not easy to predict, especially with injuries potentially coming. But I think that is in the future of college sports as well. College football, definitely. Whether it's going to be like, we'll give this this weekend, we'll do this this weekend, we'll do that.
1:19:22Pat McAfee:So we know every single week we have something gigantic.
1:19:24Mark Schlabach:Yeah, and the willingness to pivot too, because I think that does happen a lot as well. where like in August or in late July, like we see the schedule and it's like, oh, wow, week seven, like that is going to be crazy. And then, you know, I mean, there's still college kids. Injuries happen or whatever happens. And a team who was preseason top ten is four and five or something like that. And things – yeah, exactly. And things change. So being able to kind of adapt on the fly and change things up is huge as well.
1:19:50Pat McAfee:We were there for the last good time for James Franklin. Yeah. The lead up to the Oregon game.
1:19:55Mark Schlabach:Yeah.
1:19:55Pat McAfee:Yeah, that was a great game. Great game. OT. Yep. And then they lost again, UCLA. Dylan Thineman. And then they lost to Northwestern. Drew Aller broke his leg. And then James Franklin was fired after week five. And he was a guest on the show by the end of it. Week six. It sounded like he was like, hey, I'm fucking coaching. That's another team. Virginia Tech. We have no idea what Virginia Tech's going to do. We know that their environment's going to be incredible. See, that's what we're talking about. If there's a Virginia Tech game, week four, week five, week six, where they're starting out hot, it's like, got to get down there.
1:20:30Pat McAfee:Don't have to get down there. You don't want to make them lose. Bound. Make them lose. Bound. Bound. Bound. Bound. Bound. Bound. Bound. You have to get down there.
1:20:44Mark Schlabach:Yeah. That's one of one, too.
1:20:45Pat McAfee:God, college football. 71 days.
1:20:48Mark Schlabach:Really close.
1:20:49Pat McAfee:Is that what that countdown says right up there?
1:20:51Mark Schlabach:Oh, top right? I'll be no clue. Only you know. You have to tell us what that one says. But one of the bottom.
1:20:56Pat McAfee:1-36-09-08-07-06, I think. Is that accurate, what I'm saying? Yeah. So why don't you guys just kind of get your shit fixed?
1:21:03Mark Schlabach:Well, see, but that's the thing. I can't tell if you're looking at that clock or if you're just looking at that clock and counting down to 3 o 'clock.
1:21:08Pat McAfee:So you think my math is that good that quickly? Absolutely. 1-35-54-53-52. I've seen you do it. 1-35-51-50. Yeah, I mean, I'm in there, bro. This is the bottom level of the eye test here. I'm in there. I got LASIK a long time ago. I happen to see it still. It was a doctor. It was right here in Indianapolis. That was one of the original ones. I'll tell you, that was a weird experience. They tape your eyes open, okay? Tape your eye open. I've always hadn't been able to see shit. Like in junior high, I remember being like this literally all the time. And somebody was like, hey, you use fucking glasses, dude.
1:21:39Pat McAfee:So get glasses, do the contacts. I left my contacts in years at a time. Just years. Just fucking years at a time. Just didn't even think about it. Then we played against, I think, the St. Louis Rams. And right one fell out like third quarter. There's no backup contacts because I don't have backup contacts because I've had these in since two years ago. So I don't even know what these are. So I had to go through a game watching in stereo, basically. I can't see anything. And I'm holding for, like, the tearing. Yeah, it was a bad thing. So I was like, I got to get this straight out. But since I wore contacts for so long, obviously my eyes were so swollen.
1:22:16Pat McAfee:So, like, I had to do, like, a six-month stint with glasses on. So I had a six-month stint with glasses where I was just showing up everywhere wear with these brand new glasses. Nobody had a clue what to do. And then it's finally LASIK day and you go in there and it's for the end of the day. I think I got it like 3.30, 4 o 'clock. And the way you do it is you walk in, they tape your shit open, tape your right eye open, and you're just like sitting there. And then they have this big laser thing, like you're at a dentist and that thing comes down on your eye. And then all of a sudden it just starts and they're like, let us know when you see the orange blinking light or whatever.
1:22:51Pat McAfee:and you start smelling your eye and then you lose your vision completely in your right eye lose your vision completely hey let us know when you see the orange blinking light they ask that two times once they get to the third time asking that fourth time asking you think you're blind forever you think you think you're never seeing anything at all and then all of a sudden that orange light comes back you're like yes okay i'm not blind and then oh yeah we gotta do the next eye okay then uh then you take two ambient then you put sunglasses on and you wake up the next morning and you can read that thing it is i had like 2010 it was a whole new world i saw this i saw the roof of the colts indoor complex for the first time because all the lights on the roof were just like a big blur blur so it was my first time seeing the ceiling that i it was like driving first time seeing cars at night because instead it was just like big blurs like this is foxy's life so anytime you're riding with foxy i know what it used to be like that is what foxy's lASIK foxy yeah that's what i'm saying it's on the list i'll get to it eventually i just keep to keep pushing it back and pushing it back and pushing it back.
1:23:48Pat McAfee:Fox is okay. He put those meta glasses on. All of a sudden, the meta person's telling him everything. Shout out to Dana and the meta people for sending us 45 of these things. They're awesome. Legit. Thank you. They are unbelievable. Great camera. Golf with him. Dirty play yesterday. Should have some great content. We have some breaking news from the world of footy. He's in. Pulisic is out. Fuck! Today with a calf injury against Australia and Ricardo Pepe, we'll get to start. Okay, Pepe's in there. Pepe Le Pew. We didn't think it was going to be him. We thought maybe Reyna. We thought maybe Weah.
1:24:21Pat McAfee:We thought maybe Berhalter. Instead of this Pepe, I believe his odds to score were better than all those guys. They were. Ponchettino tells Fox Sports. Jenny Taft. Jenny Taft doing a lot of work right now. Obviously college football legend, but crushing it in the World Cup coverage. Okay, so that's a big piece of information. And we don't love that, but we know we got depth on this team, and we know we're going to need Pulisic for the long haul. It's a long tourney. Okay, I thought this was probably the outcome that was coming, but then SkySport Italy says that he's full go, so maybe that was a little bit of a throw-off.
1:24:49Pat McAfee:Nonetheless, we need Pulisic against Turkey. We need him in the next round. We need him healthy, and we got depth.
1:24:55Mark Schlabach:Yeah, and Grello's right. Australia sucks, okay? Michael Jordan didn't go into games thinking like, oh, man, I really hope that this guy doesn't lock me down. If we want to win, we need to be able to beat the shit out of the soccer poos without our best player.
1:25:08Pat McAfee:All right, you're saying there's soccer doo-doo. Bingo. Okay, let's go to some things that aren't ass, if that's what you're saying is ass is Australia. Let's go to five things that aren't ass, as voted upon by the Thunderdome this week. This is a recap of the week that was five things that we think need to be spotlighted a little bit more. Is that right, boys? Yeah. And first, ladies and gentlemen, let's go to Diamond, shall we? Let's go to baseball. How about Jacob Wilson, son of Jumpin' Jack Flass Wilson, Pittsburgh Pirates legend, says, how about this, Dad, dear, Bucko's? I'm going to be Keanu Reeves in the Matrix.
1:25:39Pat McAfee:A little bit of a Neo as the young lad gets home. Wow. Safe. He was unbelievable. That's a Gumby-like reaction. And I'll tell you, I think we're seeing more of this nowadays with more athleticism maybe coming into baseball time.
1:25:52Mark Schlabach:I think you might be right, and there is nothing better than a hook slide. I mean, that's not a hook slide in the traditional sense, but any time, I mean, for my money, these are some of the best highlight plays on a baseball diamond. I mean, just beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. They lost that game. A's lost that game.
1:26:06Pat McAfee:Okay. Yeah, the Pirates end up winning that game. Obviously, go Buccos. and that's going to certainly make jumping Jack Flash Wilson, Pittsburgh Pirates legend, excited. That's Jacob's father, who certainly looked down and said, good job, boy. He did. But he was upset it was against the Buckeyes. You know, sports are a magical thing. They can bring people together. We're seeing soccer do that. We obviously have seen the fans in America celebrate what life is as a soccer fan over here. Have you seen the Norway Storting, which is their supreme legislature? I have not. Audio, please. You, you, you, you, you, you, you.
1:26:45Mark Schlabach:Hi, I'm like, yeah.
1:26:46Pat McAfee:Hi, I'm like, hey. That was impressive. Did you see what these people over here, I assume in this legislature, if it's anything like any other legislature in the history of legislating, there's a lot of disagreements in there. A lot of disagreements in there. You know what they love? Holland. Yeah. They absolutely love Erling Haaland or whatever the hell his name is coming out there going crazy. They love the role of the lads here in America up the escalator. And they said, why don't we go ahead and do something that bonds us, brings us together. Let's find common ground. And they said, let's row the shit out of this Viking boat.
1:27:21Pat McAfee:I love it, Conman.
1:27:21Mark Schlabach:Yeah, unbelievable. Also, there's a little cut up of a team from Norway in the 90s. And they are the fathers of three players, Haaland included, on the current team. So you've got to imagine that the people in that room who might be a little older grew up watching these guys' poppies. And now they're watching their sons compete and dominate for Norway. This is what the World Cup and the Beautiful Games is all about.
1:27:43Pat McAfee:I do wonder, up there in Boston, you guys are kind of forced to learn about boats and stuff, right? I mean, a huge part of it, you know, the Boston Habba. Okay, so I would assume over here you kind of learn how to row. If we could kind of move, they shoot to the left one time. I don't think they'd be pumped with some of the effort of some of these. I agree. Yeah, they don't put enough back into it. Yeah, some people are just all arms. Right here. Right here. These two. These two. Right here. Listen, I don't want to call too many people out, but I think these two right here aren't putting a lot of effort into it.
1:28:12Pat McAfee:Go ahead. See? They're not putting their back into it. Look at everybody else over here.
1:28:17Mark Schlabach:Right behind them, too.
1:28:18Pat McAfee:Everybody else is leaning, lean with it, rock with it. Look at everybody moving. Everybody's moving. I need to use the legs big time. Let's go ahead and rock the boat a little bit over there. This guy's not even doing it. This guy right now. Oh, my God. The other two, I give them a pass. Who's that? They at least had the arms. This is the jackass right here. Hey, what's this? I'm here to vote, please. I'm here to vote. This is madness. What are we doing? I'm a Norway starting member.
1:28:47Mark Schlabach:I ain't fucking rowing a ship. He looks like he had about 15 pints watching the game the night before. Are they playing Oregon Trail on those computers?
1:28:56Pat McAfee:I'm not 100 % sure, but it does look like an old-school computer. I did enjoy those things. Okay, congratulations to the Storting of Norway. Yeah. Let's go to a man who was titled world champion for the first time, really, in his life, even though he's been interim champ a few different times. Let's go to Sunday night in the front lawn of the White House. Justin Gaethje, American hero. So, Hans Ilya Toporia. So much so that he throws in the towel after his face gets beat down by maybe the strongest striker. Gaethje said the reason why my punches are so strong. I'm an A to B-er, baby. All the energy is going from me through somebody's face.
1:29:39Pat McAfee:You know, and a lot of people see me get hit maybe and they wonder, my face isn't messed up. He said they think I got weird skin. This is his, whereas I'm mine. It's actually because I'm just deflecting the energy. I'm setting people up. It's kind of my art. It's my thing. It's my science. I'm delivering 100 % energy through people's faces. Yeah, he is. And he is our champ. And he's not just championing in the White House when he's doing backflips and then almost landing on his neck as he proclaims himself the best faller in history. He said, boys, I was just falling. That ain't nothing. It looks like I broke my neck.
1:30:08Pat McAfee:I do it every day. Don't worry about that. Well, you know what else he might be doing every single day? Feels like this guy's maybe got the Midas touch right now. Ooh. Goes to the golf course, Justin Gaethje, who is obsessed with golf. He told us at Radio Row. and fresh out of a championship home. You held it. Those hands. That's the best. Those hands right there. Made a guy quit in front of White House, and then just a couple days later, they got the touch to hit a golf club. Gaethje's living his best life. That's certainly not Asti. No better feeling getting a nice little chip. I don't know if it was for Bird.
1:30:38I don't know if it was for the save par. What is it right here? Bird. Okay, Bird. A Bird dog. Shit, could be an eagle, but great job. I mean, this guy's winning right now, just on top of the world.
1:30:46Pat McAfee:He's on top of the world. There's another man that won an award this past season. He actually has two trophies now because of a misspelling. The Offensive Player of the Year from the NFL last year, Jackson Smith and Jigba. Turns out if he wanted to, he'd go run the NBA. He was working out with Chris Brickley over there in New York, which is a legendary gym, a legendary trainer. And Jackson Smith and Jigba has game. This dude's getting buckets all over the place. And he's working so he can show up at your celebrity game and embarrass you. D-Bot, your thoughts on kind of utilizing the same tactics you have used as a football player who surprises the shit out of basketball players at some of these games.
1:31:21No surprise here. He is an absolute freak athlete. You can watch him on the football field and probably assume he'll be dominant on any sport that he played. But this is very smooth right here. Usually DBs, quarterbacks, those are probably the best hoopers that I've seen year in and year out football player-wise. But as a wide receiver, yeah, I got him. There's a windmill off the bounce, too. I love this. I love everything about this.
1:31:44Pat McAfee:Yeah, true hooper. You know, they talk about this, especially at the wideout position. The Hoopers are able to cross people up. You know, it used to be something where I think NFL teams hated whenever guys played basketball because, obviously, if you get injured, it's a big problem. But now it's like an expectation at some positions. If they play basketball, they're probably going to be able to get a little bit more open. Wide receiver is certainly one of those positions. Jackson Smith and Jigba is the most explosive guy we saw on the field. I want to reiterate, though. Puka, he's an exception.
1:32:09JSN, exception. In my experience, wide receivers typically stink on the basketball court. Very good athlete, T.Y. Hilton. Another good basketball player. But outside of that, I mean. Devin Funchess. Who just joined your men? I was going to say. Who just joined it? Trust me. I've seen these guys. I've done the research, right? So, yeah. Devontae Parker, he's another one. Wide receiver. Funchess, another one. These are some. But there are many, many more who stink. The majority. The majority. Boom, there we go.
1:32:40Pat McAfee:They don't have anything? I don't know what it is. They are obviously freak athletes. Devontae Adams is another one. Some of these wide receivers are coming to mind. They stand out. But for the most part, and I don't want to call names, Maquan Bolden will be another guy great on the basketball team.
1:32:54Mark Schlabach:Let's just like one example of a guy. Let's see.
1:32:58Pat McAfee:It sounds like we're rattling off a bunch of really good wide receivers. Who sucks? No, no, go ahead. Initials. No, no. Let us figure it out.
1:33:05Mark Schlabach:BM. Brady, Mark.
1:33:06Pat McAfee:Okay, what's your problem? It's a Pittsburgh guy, by the way. Not Brady Marshall. But I don't think he proclaims to be a hooper, but you just rattled off a lot of wide receivers that are good hoopers. Like, a lot. I would assume Justin Jefferson, pretty good hooper. Maybe. Jamar Chase, we think he's a good hooper.
1:33:21Mark Schlabach:We know Tee Higgins.
1:33:22Pat McAfee:I wouldn't assume Chase would be a hooper. We've seen DK Metcalf dunk. Does that mean he's a good hooper? No, no.
1:33:27Mark Schlabach:I wouldn't think DK's a good hooper. He's like Rodman a little bit. I could see Michael Pittman Jr. being terrible.
1:33:35Pat McAfee:Alec Pierce, I think, is a hooper. I think I know that. Julian Edelman can get to the rack. Really? AJ Braun? Yeah, I play with Edelman. Edelman can play. See? That surprised me. Edelman can play. Really? Okay, I thought you were just fibbing. No, he can play. Okay, so maybe wide receivers aren't ass? I've done the research. All right, I trust you. Hey, I will say. Done the research.
1:33:58Mark Schlabach:DB's on the other end. Plays more basketball than anyone else. Yeah, I believe him. I'm just saying. As an adult, this guy's playing a lot of hoops. Randy Moss, another great. Well, yeah.
1:34:08Pat McAfee:Man, I feel like all these guys aren't going to hear all these names that you're saying now. I think the original part of you saying wide receivers are ass at basketball. But our names are a lot of good ones, so there we go. Hey, listen, you might have to go play hoops against them. Now, I know that there has been potential games you've been offered up to play in against very good basketball players in the past. I know you wouldn't be scared, and I appreciate that. No, never. Yeah, absolutely not. Let's continue in the things that aren't ass world. Ladies and gentlemen, basketball is still going.
1:34:39Pat McAfee:The Knicks had their parade. It was spectacular. But don't forget about the W.
1:34:44Mark Schlabach:That's right, baby.
1:34:44Pat McAfee:You know the Indiana Fever? The team that is the hottest in the WNBA right now. Hell yeah. A team that has four people that are scoring over 20 points a game, maybe 30 points a game. What? The team that's carrying the ratings of the entire industry. Yeah! I don't know if everything I just said is the truth.
1:35:04Mark Schlabach:I think they lost last night. They did, but they had won eight in a row.
1:35:08Pat McAfee:It ain't about that. It's about your record. Kayla just dropped some new fire shoes. Not only fire shoes, great fits, and also how about a behind-the-back dish to FSU. Michaela Timpson. Ha! Ha! Wow. Ha!
1:35:23Mark Schlabach:Whoop!
1:35:24Pat McAfee:Jason Williams. Whoop! Chocolate. Whoop! That was clean. What a bitch. Now you see me. Now you don't. Magic Johnson. Wow. Woo! Yeah. I'd say Caitlin Clark's back on her shit. Yeah. Sophie Cunningham, she's – all I see is her doing these three-point dances. Bug it. She's all over the place. How far into the season are we right now, Gumpy? What should we be expecting for the rest of the WNBA season? What are some teams that are currently riding high right now over there in the W on the hardwood, Gumps? It was a tough loss for the fever last night. Atlanta came in here and got a big dub in our city, so that was a tough loss.
1:36:05But Minnesota's been really good, and Dallas is actually very good. Those are kind of the two top teams that are surprising people. Aces are always going to be good. We know that. But Dallas and Minnesota with their rookies are playing really good right now. Who's the Rexpecs? Olivia Miles.
1:36:21Pat McAfee:Unbelievable. What a sweet look. Fro with the Rexpecs and the way she plays. Dog. She is awesome. She's a killer. She is unbelievable. You look at her and it's kind of like a Kyrie Irving. It's like you talk about players who like play at their own pace. The vision, a lot of people felt like, which I agree, she was the best player in the draft. Dallas didn't take it. I took AZ instead because you have Paige Buckets, who's also one of the best point guards in the league. But she has been unbelievable. Sick looks. The highlights, every time the highlights pop up, she just looks like so smooth. It's like, wait, does WNBA have their Kyrie right on?
1:36:56Pat McAfee:Is that kind of what we got going on? It feels like there's a wizard with the rock. Good luck to the WNBA, and good luck to every other team other than the Fever. They're 9-6. Fight for a playoff spot. Who? The Fever. What the fuck, man? I thought we were in first. I thought we were undefeated other than last night. Lynx 12-3.
1:37:15Mark Schlabach:There's no way they won eight in a row. Who told me that? I mean, I know, but they did not win eight in a row. Liberty 11-4. Saw that somewhere. Dream 10-4. What place are we in? You're lying to me! People are actually 6-4 in their last 10. That's not bad. That's not 8 in a row. No, it's not. You guys need to stop doing that. Whoever put that out there. Because I bought that son of a bitch hook, line, and sinker. Kind of a part of our problem. Yeah, I'll say. I said, yep, that tracks. Especially when we're saying. Yeah, exactly. That's the only reason we put that on. Yeah, I thought we were. I was a pistol.
1:37:55Mark Schlabach:shit apparently not more you know hit it yeah and that was five things that aren't great timing
1:38:04Pat McAfee:served up pretty fast do something sweet we'll raise our glass
1:38:16we got
1:38:18Pat McAfee:world cup fever man that's all
1:38:20Mark Schlabach:I can think about
1:38:20Pat McAfee:we are so sorry and I'm just seeing Sophie Cunningham just make another shot She's made another show. They won that game. Now I don't believe that either.
1:38:27Mark Schlabach:No, she was lights out again. What's real? She was lights out again last night. On her last few games. She's still cooking. She played Unreal last night again. How many points do you have? I do not know, but she's hitting threes at an all-time rate. She was two of three from three for 12 points. They had a rough game last night.
1:38:43Pat McAfee:They were six and four of the last ten. She got a miss from three. Sophie's lighting it up. The Indiana Fever are going to win it all. How many games do we have? How many games do we have? 40 total, I think. 42 in the regular season. And then they're making it 50, right? I think it might be 30. Wait, what did you say the record was? 9-6. Fighting for a playoffs? There's fucking 40 games left. We're fine. I think 50 starts next year. We're over a quarter in defense.
1:39:03Mark Schlabach:I thought they played 20 games in a season. Listen, you guys need to stop because you're telling me all this different stuff and you're loading me for my fever. And I don't know which way is up. How many games do we got? We're going to make the playoffs? We're going to miss the playoffs? Caleb was hurt for a week. We've won eight in a row. No, we haven't. You said that. Yeah, you told us that. I know. I don't know who told me that. I'm going to remember that. Hey, I don't know who it was.
1:39:29Pat McAfee:No. But I'm going to remember. I will find you. Hey, remember, this is what we've been caught up on. Exactly. This is what it's all about right here. Yeah. Hour 17, 27, 26, 25. You see that? All I know is they're in seven. No, but I believe you. Eight teams make the playoffs. They're fighting for a playoff. 44 games, yeah. And it's going to 50, right? Going to 50 next season. Next season. I think that's a big deal. New team every year. Expansion teams going to 50. And I'll tell you. Probably the ball left. What's the guard name from Minnesota? Olivia Miles. If she's going to continue to just and one cook people, I mean, what she is doing, that'll be fun.
1:40:07Pat McAfee:Yeah, she's good. Fudd has been heating up, too. She's been shooting the lights out as well, so good for her. All right, that's awesome. Let's go around the room here and find some things that were our fave from the weekend. We're not going to do the oh-no train until after. I believe there is a chance that we are going to be joined by somebody. Mitt is sitting in Bruce's seat.
1:40:26Mark Schlabach:Oh, boy.
1:40:27Pat McAfee:The whole time? Ladies and gentlemen, joining us now is a man who is going to kind of summarize everything that happened this week from the NFL. We used to do this segment back in the day, and then this guy made us look like idiots, and then now we're all the way back. Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for the weekly wrap-up with Rap Sheet and Friends. Us being the friends, he being Rap Sheet, ladies and gentlemen, Ian Rapoport. Yeah, Rap Sheet! We're back How'd Mitt do? That was one of Mitt's first times ever having to interact with other humans outside of the Thunderdome but also having to put you through here to have the conversation with us as he'll be sitting in that position as Bruce gets ready to take the next stage of his life So you might not know this Mitt and I are buddies We go way back We have hung plenty of times We've had beverages together One maybe So that's offensive I thought he did great.
1:41:21I actually had forgotten who Bruce was before you had just mentioned it.
1:41:27Pat McAfee:Holy shit, Bruce. Middy Piff. That's tough. Middy Piff. Listen, I mean, what are you going to do? You know, the best ability is availability. He's not here. Mid-steps in. I thought it was great. So Bruce actually is here. So it's kind of like a cuck situation where you're complimenting him right in front of him. But he will not be here next week. I don't know what you mean. Yeah. Yeah, okay. I'm a resurgent. There's a chair. Yeah, okay. The chair in the hotel room, it's in the corner. It's for watching. I'll tell you what, your reaction that you had there, I didn't have any questions, but now I kind of do.
1:41:58Pat McAfee:Don't we?
1:41:59Mark Schlabach:Yeah, adds a layer to the inside. Let's move along. This guy was cooking meat today.
1:42:03Pat McAfee:That's right. This guy was cooking some meat today. I like that a lot. We appreciate you sending those photos over so we can see you kind of operating in a fashion of, you know, masculinity. Oh, yeah. Because that is something that you kind of do. You know, you smoked a cigarette and smoked your meat outside. The bigger the meat, the better, right, Ty?
1:42:20Mark Schlabach:Yeah, it looks like shit, though. I mean, did you burn it? Is that thing burnt with crisp? No, no, no. Slow roast, or what are we doing here? So that's two seven-pound pork shoulders, basically. So it's like a 10-hour process. So this is just the start of it. So I'll put some rub on it, a little mustard to bind it. I'm going to wrap it at probably 160, and then probably tomorrow at some point just pull the whole thing apart and make little sandwiches. It's going to be nice.
1:42:49Pat McAfee:They're saying that it's actually a bunch of this. Poop. That's what they're saying. How did you do that? They're saying because of you doing it, it's a bunch of poop, poop, poop, poop, poop, poop, poop, poop, poop, poop, poop, poop, poop, poop, poop, poop. Wait. Poop, poop, poop, poop, poop, poop, poop. On what platform are you doing this? What's that, buddy? I would like to be able to do this. Yeah, I'm sure you would, pal, but the thing is right there, we know you have no idea what you're doing. That's nowhere near the center of the meat. That's obviously off-center, so if you're cutting it or checking it for its temperature, We appreciate you, though, getting in there, get your hands on that meat, sucking the meat down, and making something that isn't poopy meat because poopy meat's the worst type of meat.
1:43:25Pat McAfee:Now, let's not talk about your meat on your grill or your meat in your house. Let's start talking a little bit about the NFL and the meat of the offseason here. Tell me a little bit about what we should think about this week in the NFL. What was the big story in your eyes, and maybe what's something we should look forward to? So, you know, usually this is the time where players go away, they get on vacation. mini camps ended and so you know i'd say mostly you have any contract negotiations have sort of hit a pause unless you get to the point where you're like let's just keep talking because we're going to get this done so you'll probably see you know a couple contract uh negotiations some high profile guys like you know bijon and jameer gibbs and kind of those type of guys baker you know if they're going to get done around the start of camp i think a lot of times is a pretty good landing spot for that.
1:44:15Otherwise, you know, the guys are going to go away and you hope to not have any NFL news. The reason why this is maybe a little different is because of the Brendan Sorsby situation. I know Thamel's covered this a lot, but like you have a legitimate high profile NFL issue in the middle of June in a place where there never is anything like this.
1:44:38Pat McAfee:Your thoughts on Roger Goodell being the one having to decide whether or not there's a supplemental draft and how quickly will that come after the application window closes on Monday for the supplemental draft uh yeah I would expect uh news probably pretty quickly so you know you hope early next week Tuesday maybe um something like that just to have some finality and say like is there going to be a supplemental draft or not if there is you know then Shoresby is going to be the most high-profile supplemental draft prospect since, God, I don't even know, three decades, something like that. I mean, Josh Gordon was probably the most notable, but this is even more high-profile than that.
1:45:20And so, I mean, it's Goodell deciding, it's the NFL's management council deciding. And there's a lot that goes into it because he's incredibly talented. I talked to seven general managers to gain an understanding of where the talent is. They believe universally first-round talent may not get a first-round pick, but first-round talent. And you're probably looking at second or maybe even third-round supplemental pick if he is eligible to even be in it, like if they're even going to have one, and we'll find that out next week.
1:45:53Pat McAfee:Okay, so you said early next week for the supplemental draft decision out of Commissioner Goodell. We hope that is the case. And congrats to Soarsby getting this opportunity. and we think from everybody around him that has talked to him, he's going to make the most of this entire situation and hopefully become a face of something of the next era of his life. Go ahead, Tone. Ian, if there isn't, like if Roger says, hey, we're not doing a supplemental draft, then what happens to him? He doesn't go into the next draft, right? Does he become a free agent or how does that work? He, no, I don't believe he would become a free agent.
1:46:20I think he would sort of be in limbo. Okay. You know, of a place where, like, not going to be in the NFL. If you're not drafted into, oh, that's cool. Hey, I like that. Let's go. Was that mid also?
1:46:37Pat McAfee:No, that was back row there. That was Bill and Zito are currently in for Nick. So we got a lot of people on this field Friday kind of working together. Plus Fox, obviously, in the Foxy position. So behind the glass certainly looks a lot different than it does regularly. But we got depth in the roster. We got boys ready to step up. Next man up. Next man up. We appreciate that, boys. That's good culture. What you're seeing here is a depiction of the culture we have in a Thunderdome. It's certainly going to be tested over the next couple months. I have a strong faith in the resilience of the lads.
1:47:06Pat McAfee:Although it won't go smoothly at the beginning. It will get sorted, I do believe. Classic us. On that note, Soresby is going to get a first-round bid from somebody, is what it sounds like. Because you're saying everybody's saying maybe not a first-round. So if somebody actually wants them, they're going to put a first-rounder in because they think nobody else would. Yeah. And over the past... Go ahead. No, I was saying, you guys know how this works, right? It's actually like a, there's almost nothing else like it. Basically, you put in like a blind bid and you'll say like, I think he's worth a two.
1:47:34And if someone thinks he's worth a one, that person gets him. But like, you don't really know who actually is going to do anything. You sort of just say like, here's what I think he is worth. There's just almost nothing else like it in sports. It's really fascinating.
1:47:50Pat McAfee:Yeah, and there's second rounders being used, first rounders being used on guys. Now, obviously, Chris Carter, I think, was a fourth-rounder, which was kind of a fascinating thing to us to look back on now. But first-rounders and second-rounders being used in a separate draft, very real, you know, because if Roger Goodell opens up another draft in the middle of the offseason for everybody, it means the player is a fucking good player. So that's the only reason why this happened. This is not happening for an ass player, okay? This is only being opened up. Everybody's coming out of their vacations for somebody that's worth a damn.
1:48:19Pat McAfee:So probably going to be a high draft pick. I think a first round bid? I think somebody inevitably will. If Cadella, just the way they're talking about it, this is not me acting like I know. Just what, we heard Shefty talk about it. We heard him talk about it. We heard Thamel talk about it. We've heard everybody talk about it. Everybody's like, you know, he's got first round grade, but nobody's really thinking about it. It's like, well, that means one person, at least one person will definitely think about it. Because if it was starting at like second, third, maybe it would be on second. A little different.
1:48:46Pat McAfee:But it does sound like it's starting with one, two is where everybody's talking about. Top ten pick, they were saying. I think so, like, if you're the – let's say you're the Jets and the Browns and you're looking at your season honestly, and you're like, well, we probably have a top ten pick next year. We're probably not going to use the first round. But if you're a team that you think is going to be picking in the 20s to late 20s, then maybe you use your first round pick because you're not going to be able to get guys like Arch and Dante Moore and those CJs. This is the argument. What team could you put in that category?
1:49:13Pat McAfee:That's why he's saying Tampa is a potential spot is what he just said because of this Baker Mayfield stuff that's happening. Detroit Lions, Pittsburgh Steelers are certainly a team that could potentially look at it, even though they spent a high bet on Drew Aller. You know, so I don't know. And Will Howard's there, and everybody's saying Will Howard's good, but you look at those types of teams that are maybe looking for the future. Even the Cowboys, like how old is Dak?
1:49:31Mark Schlabach:32, Seattle, Sam Darnold. He's in the second year of a three-year team. Seattle's another interesting one. Yeah, and everybody's – I mean, it seems crazy, but, like, it's quarterback, so, like, if he's good, just figure it out. Just figure it out.
1:49:45Pat McAfee:And also, you're going to have to play your backup. Yeah. In the NFL, especially with us going to an 18-game season here soon, backup quarterbacks are playing a lot of football. And I'm not saying you need to have a top 10 pick as your backup quarterback, but that wouldn't be a bad thing to potentially have in some of these places, especially as the future goes. I'd be surprised. If he's one? First round, yeah. What do you think, second? I think second. Which is still a lot. If it was a line, I would bet second.
1:50:13Mark Schlabach:That's like for those load teams. Can you? I mean, I'm sure you can somewhere, but.
1:50:17Pat McAfee:That's a predictive market on the ice. There's a predictive market. DraftKings available in all 50 states. And this is with no info. I know, like you said, Rap Sheet, Shefter, they're calling around. They're talking to GMs. But, you know, I just know these teams are set and they have and how much they value these first-round picks. And, you know, we shall see. Speaking of first-round picks, the Colts, we traded a couple first-round picks to bring in the sauce garden. You talk about going way back when you admit. Me and you go way back, 2009, inside that Patriots locker room. You haven't aged a day.
1:50:47Sauce is aging backwards. How did he turn 24? What do you need to tell him that? Man, I am trying to figure this out. It is – it's crazy. It kind of reminds me of when, like, we know that everyone – and we know that a player's name is pronounced this, and then they go through the whole career and they're like, yeah, actually, everyone's pronouncing my name wrong. Travis Etienne is the latest example. and you're like, how could nobody tell us? Like, Sauce is very communicative. He's a great dude. He's a good golfer. He's a great football player. How does he not tell us that he's young? He has more value now to the Colts than I previously thought because they get more years out of him.
1:51:27Pat McAfee:Yeah, we would like everybody to do this on the Colts. We'd like them just to add another year. But we would like to get to the bottom of when this started, how this started, and why now is the time to let everybody know. But we would certainly like to let Sauce know we appreciate him. And happy birthday. Yeah. When the team wished him a happy 25th birthday, wasn't he like, hold on, you're close, but not right? Like, no? They didn't do capital letters probably on the post, so he probably didn't even read it because he probably thought to himself, like, I won't see that. I don't think he's had a birthday on the Colts yet, so the Jets just probably fucked it up.
1:52:07Pat McAfee:Yeah, but I assume this guy's back. Cincinnati? Well, they couldn't because he was 15. He was illegally playing for that. Cincinnati had no idea when his birthday was. They were covered. Oh, my God. Yeah, I do wonder how deep it goes. I got a lot of questions. Legit. We actually do have some questions in it all because if this was something that happened as this little child, it's like Sauce has been playing above his age his entire life, which is why he's the perfect guy to be the lockdown corner for the Indianapolis Corps. Come on, Sauce. We're excited about that. We have one minute left here before the hard out on ESPN.
1:52:40Pat McAfee:We'll continue digitally, but big storyline this week is a man who showed up at OTAs. Go ahead, Tone. Yeah, Rap, I wanted to ask because I couldn't remember. So George Pickens has done everything right. He signed the franchise tender. He's reported. He said he's going to play. No hold on anything like that. I remember, did the Cowboys say they were never going to give him a long-term contract or just this season? Is there a chance that if he plays well again this season, that he will be with the Cowboys again, not just on a second franchise tag? I'll go fast because I know we got the heart out.
1:53:09I do not expect a long-term deal this year. If he plays well and does everything he did last year, I think next offseason he'll be able to cash in and be one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL. I don't believe they're going to trade him. I think they just wanted to see more in one more year.
1:53:25Pat McAfee:That's awesome. We are happy that GP found his home and how excited he is. We'll watch America beat Australia. We hope you'll join us over on DraftKings if you're 20-plus and responsible. We'll see you on Monday. Have an incredible weekend. I missed the U.S. Open. But USA. No, we get it. You get it. We're focused right now. We hit enough of it. Did we not?
1:53:44Mark Schlabach:We hit enough of it.
1:53:45Pat McAfee:Happy Father's Day. Happy Father's Day. Thanks. You're welcome. Happy Father's Day to you. It's about time for the kids. Oh, yeah. Hey, listen. The camp bags. So you got to pack the camp bags and send them early. They went off today. Not the kids. Just the bags. Oh, you kids are still here. Oh, so not kids in bags. I didn't know. Do they take weapons? What's in the bag?
1:54:09Mark Schlabach:They make them when they get there. Golf clubs. Doobies and booze. Yeah. A lot of lotion. How old are they? How old is the oldest? Max turns 13 in July. Oh, geez. 13 over there? Our kid's jerking like there's no tomorrow.
1:54:25Pat McAfee:All right. We don't know what these 13-year-olds are doing at these camps. I certainly didn't get a chance to go, but that does feel like a year where there's going to be a lot of experimenting going on. he's going to be out in the woods here? It's woods, yeah. In cabins, like five or six kids to a cabin, yeah. And they're there for how long? Seven weeks. We see them on visiting day. Sapping trees. Seven weeks. Two months. Guy in the woods, kid. Good luck out there. See ya. And they learn about life out there, right? We're cutting down trees. Fishing. We're learning about people we don't know.
1:54:58Pat McAfee:We're having a good time. Probably first, is this a girl as well? Girl and boy? No, no, no, no, no. All boys. No, there's definitely like an all-girls camp that's very close. They're sneaking over on boats.
1:55:09Mark Schlabach:Yeah, exactly. We've all seen heavyweights.
1:55:12Pat McAfee:Okay, so first girlfriend. Oh, yeah. First girlfriend happening at this thing for sure. Wow. He has not told me. I don't think so, but he wouldn't keep secrets from me. No, you're his dad. He would definitely not keep a secret from you. Is Tony Perkins there? If he was going to tell anyone, it would be me. It's not a fat camp, I don't think, right? No. His kids are skinny. Super skinny. Good hair. Good hair. Tony Perkins. Great hair. Tony Perkins, heavyweights. The runner of the fat. The leader of the fat. The blob. The go-karts.
1:55:41Mark Schlabach:Come on. I'm not aware, sir. Camp MVP. Goldberg. Holy shit. Come on, Tony Robbins for a second.
1:55:46Pat McAfee:All right. Speaking of things. I mean, kind of. I'll send you. One in the same. I have it on VHS. Tony Robbins, he's the one, right? Yeah. Yeah. Every once in a while, I'll catch a clip of his in my algo. He's a big guy. He's a giant. Yeah. And his hat's on his head of what it is and the way he speaks. The things he says, though, I read the captions, you know, because it's just I don't ever have sound on. It's like, wow, this guy's always got a fucking answer. Master motivator. Yeah. You need to hear his voice.
1:56:11Mark Schlabach:He's got a Netflix doc.
1:56:14Pat McAfee:That guy's got to figure it out. I saw one of his motivators. It was in Better Call Saul. Nope. Shallow How. Shallow How. Thank you. Shallow How. That movie's where old buddy. Jackpot. Yeah, he has, like, whiskey glasses on, right? The whole time. Great movie. And it is a great movie. You let him shout out. I know that. Great movie. Okay, I like that. Great movie. I think it is a good movie. Tells a good story, doesn't it? Great story. It does tell a good story about, you know, what's going on inside and what's real and what isn't. Isn't it great? What matters. It is about what matters. He's never seen it.
1:56:45Pat McAfee:Anything else matter in the NFL right now, Ian? No, I mean, maybe one or two things trickle in before we get what?
1:56:56Mark Schlabach:Yeah, rap sheet. Stefan Diggs. Now that that case is kind of out, It was one of those things where no one knew what was going to happen. Now he's been proven innocent. What's the situation? When is he signing? Who is he signing with? Who's interested? Yeah, I mean, there's a couple of these high-profile veterans that you're really watching. Cam Jordan signing with the Saints, which was just like, I know that was a couple days ago, but such a cool thing for New Orleans. He had kind of the amazing appreciation day. These are the kind of veterans we're watching. Now, Diggs is another one. And the fact that, you know, usually you'll say like, oh, like the legal situation is handled like he was innocent.
1:57:34So this is like NFL is not going to he's not going to be punished for anything like innocent, fully eligible to sign with someone has been talking to teams. My guess is that it'll probably be something right before training camp or maybe like a little into training camp, because really what you do if you're a if you're like a big name veteran who doesn't need the money and doesn't really need training camp is you kind of just wait. because you have your value, right? Like whatever teams believe you are, you are. You said value.
1:58:03Pat McAfee:I thought you said volume, like the medicine. Sure. Calm down. Jesus, everybody has volume? If anybody's got it. That would be a lot. And you basically, you could also wait till an injury and maybe some like a contender says, you know, we'll pay, I have no idea,$15 million for you in a point where we didn't have you that value because we have to get you. So if you're a veteran like that, he might just want to wait. All right. We appreciate the hell out of your rap. Have an incredible weekend. Again, are you riding with us on DraftKings for the America Game 2 guarantee? Are you riding with us on DraftKings?
1:58:34I have not gambled in 15 years because I've never been allowed to. Now I am allowed to.
1:58:41Pat McAfee:Listen, we don't want you to jinx anything we got going on anyways. Seriously? Don't you think I'd be good, Juju? For this one, it doesn't matter really, to be honest. You get your wager back in bonus bets if America draws or loses. you win if you win. Whether I do or don't, I am rooting for the people. Let's go. And for America. Some journalists, I think, are finding it difficult to root for Americanists. Because they don't want to disrespect soccer. It's like, come on. We're good. Come on. We're good. We are good. We are good. Yes, we are good. We're great. Actually, we're great. All right, Rap.
1:59:18We've done a whole damn thing.
1:59:19Pat McAfee:We hope you have a great weekend. Who's winning the U.S. Open?
1:59:26Who is winning the U.S. Open?
1:59:30Mark Schlabach:Rory? That's not bad. Okay. Good, good. You're going out on a limb there, huh? I mean, the problem is, and you know, this is the best, but the course is going to beat them up so bad that whoever is in the lead now, we're not going to see this guy by Saturday afternoon.
1:59:47Pat McAfee:Yeah, because he's going to get shit-a-cocked. That place is awesome. You ever played? You good meat over there, Shinnecock. Yeah. Good meat over there. Don't they?
1:59:57Mark Schlabach:Good seafood. That is a big golf course.
1:59:59Pat McAfee:I've never been to the Hamptons before, although I do hear it is a spectacular place. I appreciate the fact that New York is on top of the world with the parade and then Shinnecock and obviously the Rapoport nearby. Maybe you stop by the New York-New Jersey stadium and see one of these World Cup games. You're the best. We appreciate you, ladies and gentlemen. That's Rap Sheedy and Rapoport.
2:00:17Mark Schlabach:Yay, Rap Sheedy!
2:00:19Pat McAfee:All right, let's take a break. On the other side, we got the Oh No train and favorite things from the week as we catapult into Team USA, taking on the Socceroos. That'll be taking place. Oh, this one's tough. 56, I think. 56, 34, 33, 32. Yep. See, boys? It's there.
2:00:36Mark Schlabach:It's impressive, no doubt. Yeah, it's there. All right.
2:00:44Mark Schlabach:I mean, it just looks like a whole bunch of mumbo jumbo to me.
2:00:47Pat McAfee:It's not mumbo jumbo. It's a countdown to a great time for all of us. Okay?
2:00:54Mark Schlabach:Yeah, man. I'm ready to go. I just... That might as well mean nothing.
2:01:02Pat McAfee:What do you mean it might as well mean nothing? It means a lot. It means the whole world right there.
2:01:07Mark Schlabach:If you say so.
2:01:10Pat McAfee:I say so. It just looks like a fucking blob of shit up there?
2:01:14Mark Schlabach:I mean, I see the little red, white, and blue, but it doesn't... No. It looks like Cody Rhodes' tattoo. That's exactly what it looks like. It does kind of look like Cody Rhodes' tattoo.
2:01:49Pat McAfee:Oh!
2:01:53Mark Schlabach:Shit sucks. That's probably the size he wanted it as.
2:01:59Pat McAfee:Well, that's the thing about Cody. You think it's going to be like this, and then he's, you know, you think he's, you know, that's six inches. Right. That's right. That right there is six inches, boys. Okay. You'll look at that. Okay? You think Cody's showing up like this, okay? and said what you realized quickly. Yeah, that's exactly what it is. That's what the sound is for. Kelly Rhodes is a lot bigger than you think he is. That's right. I'll tell you what, that fucker might be the one we found out, didn't we? Yeah. I was pretty wrong about that, I think.
2:02:32Mark Schlabach:How's that going? Is he still the one? No, nobody knows.
2:02:37Pat McAfee:Let's get to a break. Isn't this their offseason? I don't like that. What's that? They haven't had any shows since Mania. What's the track? You're not following the business? What the fuck's going on?
2:02:47Mark Schlabach:Well, they haven't had any shows. Saw Roman do something. I believe this has happened. He beat the shit out of Eric. Eric. Somebody did. Oh, Fatou.
2:02:53Pat McAfee:Jacob Fatou, dude. So Fatou's back with the bloodline? Holy shit. Breaking news. Live from Seattle. The soccer fans have made their way in. Guerrilla as a clown. Yes. We like that. Okay, let's get to a break. On the other side, we got the O-no train. Guerrilla has infiltrated Australia a little bit. And we like that. He's not a clown. I didn't know they were so soft. He's a soccer expert. That's right. And he said this was a layup. Will he be right or will he be wrong? We win by 10. Yeah. Hell yeah. Let's finish the show on the other side. Be a friend, tell your friends, have a nice. It might change your life.
2:03:29Pat McAfee:Take five. Five.
2:03:36Are all batteries the same? That's like asking if all soccer players are the same. Take Messi, the most decorated player ever. Is there any other player who has achieved that? No, just him. Now take Duracell. Is there any other battery with power-boost ingredients inside? No, just Duracell. Remember, goats only trust goats because they're built different. And Messi only trusts Duracell. 2:04:36Pat McAfee:Sports! Our happening today is an exciting day. Team USA takes on Australia. 3 o 'clock, that's in roughly 40...
2:04:48Mark Schlabach:Yeah, see? See, you've been saving the whole time. No, it's tough because it's a surfboard.
2:04:53Pat McAfee:You've been looking at this clock, and you know exactly how much math there is. No, that's not true. That's not true at all, fellas. Good call, Con, man. I can see it. Just the surfboard is kind of giving it a little bit of a tough background. And yes, maybe it wasn't large enough for you all to be able to see. But these LASIK eyes can obviously see it and my soul can feel it because I've been counting down to this kickoff since the time the last game ended against Padigoy. I cannot wait to see what our Team USA looks like. Was last game a splash in the pad? No. I sure hope not. Was it just a little sizzle that could potentially never lead to an actual stake that we are all hoping for?
2:05:36Pat McAfee:Or is that actually what our team is going to be? If that's what our team is going to be going forward forever, if that's what it's going to be, soccer is going to be a gigantic thing in the United States of America because it's a fun style of soccer. It's a dominating style of soccer. They're not flopping around. There isn't that seeming like weakness. It's attack, attack, attack. Let's score some goals. Let's beat the hell out of people. If that becomes the United States of America's style of soccer, we're talking about a whole new future here. That's what I think Rod's on today. In exactly 46 minutes and 49 seconds.
2:06:10Mark Schlabach:With that background, you got no fucking chance.
2:06:12Pat McAfee:Yeah, so that background is tough, but I think I did nail it. But I think it's a huge day today for soccer. I think it's a big day for USA. The Talks table's here at Boston Corner, at Ty Schmidt. One half of the hammer. Cowboys, AP Tone is here. Nine-year NFL vet, Darius J. Butler is here. Happy Father's Day, lads. Happy Father's Day as we head into the weekend. But also, happy end of an incredible sports week. And I think my favorite thing from this past week was the fact that we did so many kickabouts, okay, over here. The program's favorite things of the week, let me start. I like the fact that the boys have all, to a man, got into footy.
2:06:49Pat McAfee:The things that have been happening after the show out here in the Thunderdome on the basketball court has been nothing short of unifying, just like what sports have done, has been nothing short of uplifting, has been nothing short of a joyful time and people coming together, rallying around footy. And we've been doing some kickabouts, and we added a new game, which was, hey, you've got to put it into the garbage can at the end. Okay, we had to get at least 10 passes. Then we had to get it between 10 passes and 16 passes into the garbage can. And I'll tell you what, the boys started competing.
2:07:18Pat McAfee:The boys started working. And, yeah, so this is – I didn't know this one. Obviously, yeah, it's the easiest way to do a layup there. Oh, yeah. Okay, that would be a layup. But I like that we've been doing kickabouts. I like what soccer has done to us. That's my favorite thing the program has done this particular week. Even D-Butch, Bruce, and Bone have set their swords aside a little bit. Mitt has been able to showcase because obviously his family is filled with some soccer talent. His little sister plays for the Louisville Professional League. That's a hell of a touch. Tone is obviously very special, but soccer's been great for us.
2:07:54Pat McAfee:It's been my favorite thing this week. That's my favorite thing. Let's go around the room. Let's go to one half of the hammer. Cowboys AP tone, your favorite thing from this week that has happened? My favorite thing from this week that happened, you guys ever seen some F-18s and some F-16s form a 12-jet super delta formation? Okay. Have you? No. Me either. Until Sunday night when I saw it fly over the White House at UFC 250 between the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds. That was my favorite thing that I saw this week. As everyone knows, I love a good flyover. Gives me a freedom boner every single time.
2:08:28So seeing that happen on Sunday night, that was my favorite thing of the week.
2:08:31Pat McAfee:I don't know how you can. And then Dana, it was Dana's too. Yeah. I mean, it was Dana's too. Dana would go on to tell us that they were two minutes away from a decision having to be made for those planes that were having to turn around. Because obviously there wasn't enough light in where they were going to have to fly over the White House. There was some sort of clearance that was not going to be able to happen if they waited two more minutes. Storm opened up around the White House, is how Dana tells the story. And the night goes off without a hitch. perfect evening for freedom 250 a bunch of knockouts and in the end the american underdog made the foreign fighter quit for a championship and i think freedom 250 was certainly a success i think there was a lot of greatness the g7 uh which is the global seven countries whatever coming together to meet obviously very important time in uh our world's uh kind of history that's taking place right now they were talking about the fighting common ground beautiful thing there's a lot of hate going into it oh yeah i think coming out of everybody's day i was actually pretty sweet and the knockouts.
2:09:27Pat McAfee:Filthy. That's what we're here for. Flyover. Awesome. The Marine Band, the president's own band. The singer, the singer is a Yinser, Mountaineer, Staff Sergeant Hannah Davis. There you go. She was the singer. She's from Pittsburgh, went to West Virginia. Now she's Staff Sergeant Hannah Davis. She was the one singing the songs. She did an incredible job. It was beautiful. I like that was your favorite thing. I think it was a lot of people's favorite thing. Ty, what was your favorite thing from the week?
2:09:54Mark Schlabach:We've been talking a lot about the people from other countries coming to the United States for the World Cup and just going to Walmart and walking through the grocery portion of the store and just being flabbergasted saying you can't find any of this kind of stuff in our country, whether that's Scotland, England, etc., etc. But then, obviously, when you're from a different country and you come over here, you'll go to New York, you'll go to L.A., you'll go to Vegas, the big tourist ones. There's one guy in particular. Let me make sure. Okay, I can't see that. Tomo, LUFC1992 underscore V2. This British lad, him and his wife, took a camper.
2:10:32Mark Schlabach:I don't know where they came. They're going to Chicago, I believe, or they were coming from Chicago. He drove through Iowa, and, boy, he found out what Casey's breakfast pizza is all about. Casey's, I've long been a staunch supporter of Casey's. A lot of people who aren't from Iowa just think, well, gas station pizza. It's a fucking general store, first and foremost. It's more than just a typical gas station. But you can see, this guy says it right here, oh, my days. I mean, he can't believe it. Photo doesn't do it justice, obviously. Kind of looks like shite. It's not.
2:11:02Pat McAfee:It's a gas station pizza. It's going to look like that right now.
2:11:04Mark Schlabach:It's general store pizza. It's not gas station pizza. Sorry, sorry. General store that also sells gas. Yes, obviously. You leave that to, like, quick trip. That's a gas station to do pizza. You know, I saw a lot of people trying to compare the two. There is no comparison. Casey's is dug out. But he says it right there. Egg on pizza. Shouldn't work. but somehow it's incredible. He didn't even get to have a slice of pepperoni come lunchtime. Maybe he did because this is so good, but it's not just that. Then I saw him and his wife went to the Field of Dreams after that, which is in Dyersville. It's just like, if you were from a different country, you'd never go to Iowa.
2:11:35Mark Schlabach:Unless you had family there, you would never go. He was just like, we didn't plan on coming through here, but we did and we'll remember this forever. That's fucking awesome.
2:11:45Pat McAfee:And Scotland, obviously with Boston, there's actually now an agreement being made an arrangement being made it has been a spectacular thing watching them learn about our country and i think a lot of people are relearning about the awesome things of our country that maybe we didn't know other people didn't have i mean there's videos of people walking into walmart they have everything here holy shit we could choose whatever drink we want it's here it's available and then obviously the serving sizes and the extras this it's like i think a lot of americans just assume the rest of the world is like that and then the rest of the world comes to a lot of americans like hey this car yeah i got air blowing on my ass i love the roads here i'm in a jeep grand wagoneer yeah look at this thing driving pickup trucks for the first time oh my god and it's like for us this is obviously just like normal but i think there is a natural hesitance or a natural tendency to kind of get desensitized to things especially if we see it so much so it's been nice kind of looking at our country through their eyes you know and uh i I think it's been good.
2:12:41Pat McAfee:I think this World Cup has been spectacular for us. Now, Con Man, your favorite thing this week.
2:12:45Mark Schlabach:Yeah, you mentioned Scotland right there. And, you know, of course we are now Twin Cities. We are one in the same Scotland. It's a country, though. Yeah, but they are kind of just considering all of their cities to be Boston's Twin City. It feels as though it is more of a country of Scotland with the country of Massachusetts, Boston more in particular. I believe they also just created a, hey, guess what? Open container law. We're doing it. You don't have one anymore. You can just walk around with a beer. Honestly, one of my favorite parts about Indiana is that there's no open container law. They're bringing that back.
2:13:13Pat McAfee:The Scots going down to city council and going, come on. We're trying. Yeah. We're trying our best. Trying to have a lock of boot. And them just going, all right. Fine. Fine. I guess if you're going to have a good time, we would like to promote a good time. It feels like the Scots have certainly done that to Boston, but a lot of places. Without a doubt.
2:13:30Mark Schlabach:They've actually sold out damn near every single bar. They've drank them dry. I heard from multiple people that basically bars around Faneuil Hall, bars around Fenway Park. They just couldn't serve anymore because the Scots. Lo and behold, Scotland had a little bit of a break. They said, you know what? We experienced Boston. Let's go check out some other cities. This is from an interview that they did while they were in New York. A few hours in New York City. How has it been? What have you noticed first? I've noticed that it's not as good as Boston.
2:13:58Pat McAfee:It's not as good as Boston. They love you guys there. I think they're very sad that you're leaving. Yeah, they don't want us to leave. This is very busy in New York. Very, very busy. The people are good. Very good. Very friendly. Very welcoming. You got to catch the Knicks parade tomorrow.
2:14:11Mark Schlabach:We got to get back to Boston again.
2:14:14Pat McAfee:We got to get back to Boston. Sorry, buddy. It is like they're in love. It is a little bit of an infatuation because, you know, the games are in different cities. So, obviously, Scotland fell in love with Boston. But I was intrigued to see whenever Scotland has to go somewhere else what they're going to do. Turns out they're going to go to other places and judge it against Boston the way they had the time of their life.
2:14:32Mark Schlabach:Yeah, and I feel like that is the sentiment of most people. actually go to Boston like, damn, this is the best city in the world just because of the size of it, the amount of things you can do, the waters right there, all that. History. The history of it, exactly. Massachusetts, America, all those things. But yeah, it has truly been one of the most perfect country-to-city matchups, and it does kind of remind you like, oh yeah, Boston is the greatest fucking city in the world.
2:14:55Pat McAfee:I like that you massholes, not just America is awesome from everybody. Remember, Boston actually the best part of the entire thing. Good for you guys seemingly always getting a chance to have another parade. This one with a tartan army and bagpipes.
2:15:08Mark Schlabach:And the Norwegians now.
2:15:10Pat McAfee:Yeah, and they're coming into town. I love it. The English Nigel's coming up there. They better watch their mouth.
2:15:15Mark Schlabach:Tell you that much. The English are saying wash their mouth or watch their mouth. They should definitely wash because from what I've seen, those English love to chew on them rocks. But also they need to watch their mouth because if you're talking about people from Massachusetts now teaming up with Scotland, England should be on their best behavior. We'll just say that.
2:15:32Pat McAfee:And don't be drinking tea. Paul Revere coming in. Speaking of traveling, she's American Airlines, folks. Yeah, that was awesome. Hey, this is sick. Everyone got jerseys and a welcome kid. That's my airline. Every single seat on a flight to Seattle had American jerseys. That's fire. That very rarely happens. Now, unless Team USA bought a deal with American Airlines or something, or if American Airlines, I don't know how this came about,
2:15:56Mark Schlabach:but I want to let you know. They're one of the sponsors of Team USA, and I wonder if they just assumed, hey, people on this flight are probably going to the game.
2:16:03Pat McAfee:Yeah, and I love that they did it, you know, because like stadiums, whenever they put out shirts, you think like, hey, stadiums or arenas, do shirts. That's cool. It's like$30 ,000, like the amount of money that is spent on that type of shit, let alone the sizing and what do you do and how do you get it right, how do you get it wrong. Official ball in the package. Them doing this for the entire flight that's had up there, absolutely awesome. We know the ticket pricing is crazy, but at least there is a little gift package that's seemingly coming alongside one of the partners. I like that everybody's kind of all in here.
2:16:26Mark Schlabach:Yeah, without a doubt. I mean, I feel like we've been talking about it and maybe, you know, I mean, we do a sports show every single day, so it's a little bit different, but it really does feel like the World Cup has taken over everything. Like, whether you like sports or not, and I don't really think it was like that with the last World Cup. And maybe it was because it was in Qatar and now it's in the U.S. and it's just, you know, easier for people to get here. But like, it's what everyone is talking about and it's the main attraction every night.
2:16:51Pat McAfee:Okay, so it was my favorite thing of the week. It was your favorite thing. It was your favorite thing. It was your favorite thing. We just brought up another thing that wasn't even a favorite thing to talk about how it could have been a favorite thing. Let's go to nine-year NFL vet, Darius J. Butler. We didn't have you the first three days of the week. We did miss you. Thank you for joining us here to wrap up the week. What was your favorite thing of the week that happened? I mean, I'll tell you what. I didn't see the American Airlines thing, but number one, American Airlines, make sure you invite me back to concierge key status next year.
2:17:17This was awesome. I know we're celebrating 250, America. American Airlines is also celebrating 100 years. So, hey, listen and listen closely. Lock me in. But anyway, back to the world's game, the beautiful game. Just like Utah, hated soccer. You would never sit and watch soccer. Became kind of a casual fan more so this year watching Arsenal in the Premier League. But we all got World Cup fever. We all been kicking about watching the legends do it. Zlatan and Teyat Anri, all those guys. That's been awesome. But when you talk about growing the game and Lala, of course. She ducked out. Wouldn't go that far.
2:17:53But the GOAT did show up. Maybe some young GOATs too. The Stars showing up. The Stars this week. When we talk about sports and growing the game, the Stars have to show up and be a big part of that. Obviously, Balogun for us. We got Erlen Holland. We got dictator Mbappe doing his thing. And then the GOAT, who you guys had on a slip and got help you get the crown, went off with the hat trick. Obviously, Miami, an American himself. Messi showing up as well. So I love that the Stars showed up. I hope they continue to show up. We'll see if Ronaldo can join that train, maybe some other guys. But that has been my favorite thing of the week so far.
2:18:29Pat McAfee:Eric Cain knocks in a couple of balls as well. Forgot about him. Sorry about him. Yeah, just literally all the stars except for Cristiano Ronaldo. So we assume he'll come exploding on the scene at some point. In his sixth World Cup, Messi hats a hat trick. It's crazy. Unbelievable stuff. We were talking about this off air because it was kind of my take about Messi, about how much he's done for soccer in the United States of America. It's like, just in general, when you talk about athletes, the hype always living up to what it is with him is outrageous first game he was playing for inter miami they just gave him a percentage of the league i think they gave him a percentage of the apple subscriptions to watch the mls it's like a historic deal he turned down a billion from saudi to come do this this is going to be a massive investment from mls team inter miami team was asked they were out of the playoffs completely maybe worst team in the entire league his first game playing there we all watched everybody's like hey the greatest player on earth is coming to play.
2:19:21Pat McAfee:First time he touched the ball was like a free kick. He scored. It was like immediately. Everybody is there to watch him. He is expected to do something every time he has the ball, and he does seemingly. Like, every time he is supposed to do something, he does. And it's outrageous. I mean, you're talking about one of the most consistently great athletes just of all time. I don't know how he does it. Honestly, Gumpy, I do not fully comprehend it. You know soccer and have followed soccer a lot closer than obviously us as a big-time fan. I know Messi and Ronaldo have been around forever, and Ronaldo obviously historically great soccer player i'm not saying that but messi just every time lives up to the the expectation it's outrageous why why is he like this is he just a robot like what how do we how do we get to this point where he's still this great all the time he's always been like this from like a young age but they always held it over his head that he never won the world cup with argentina like that was the one thing and you saw him he retired from argentina multiple times he missed a massive penalty shot in a Copa America game.
2:20:18But since he's won the World Cup, you can watch how free he's playing, and he's really enjoying everything. In every game, he just steps up like he did the other night. It's just expected, and we're never going to see anything like this again. And I don't think there's a discussion anymore of who's the greatest of all time because he proves it on every stage every time he takes the pitch.
2:20:37Pat McAfee:It really is. He never disappoints. He'll do something in every game that makes you go like, Even a pass. He'll ping a pass. It just makes no sense, and nobody else is doing it on the field. Once again, he'll just walk casually.
2:20:52Mark Schlabach:It looks effortless still. It's not like, oh, this guy's 38. It's kind of like LeBron where you just marvel at, how the fuck is this guy still doing it and making it look this easy at his age? He looks like he can do whatever he wants out there, and he always finishes. It's crazy.
2:21:07Pat McAfee:He's got power. He's got finesse. He's got skill. He's got speed. That's why it's the GOAT. And like we talked about, Inter-Miami just signed a young center back who's really talented. Chicago signed Lewandowski. They signed Goretzka, who's from Bayern Munich. Like, since the World Cup has started in America, there's been three massive signs for the MLS. Well, and I see, even though the English Premier League is allegedly the best league on earth, only when you won World Cup.
2:21:32Mark Schlabach:Yeah, he's not an English guy.
2:21:33Pat McAfee:So if the USA wins, we can compare leagues, right? MLS and Premier League. You have to. You don't have a choice, really. Yeah, head-to-head whenever. Spain, too, for sure.
2:21:42Mark Schlabach:I mean, their best players on England don't play in England. Harry Kane plays in Germany, and Drew Bellingham plays in Spain.
2:21:48Pat McAfee:Where do our guys all play? Not the MLS. England.
2:21:51Mark Schlabach:They play overseas, but that's not what we're saying here.
2:21:55Pat McAfee:No, once they win the World Cup, they're going to earn their way into the MLS. Like Messi did.
2:22:00Mark Schlabach:Yeah, I want to go play for the Sounders. The Timbers. Yeah, I want to go play for the Whitecaps.
2:22:04Pat McAfee:The crew.
2:22:05Mark Schlabach:Exactly. So go play for the Atlanta United.
2:22:08Pat McAfee:Yeah. Messi earned his way into the MLS, which is it? Yeah, he won the World Cup. Yeah. For a long time, they didn't want him until he won the World Cup. Was he in the MLS before he won the World Cup?
2:22:20Mark Schlabach:No, he had to qualify.
2:22:22Pat McAfee:So facto. That's what the MLS is waiting for. If you win the World Cup, you can maybe come play in the MLS. Good luck, Harry Kane. Much luck. If he wins one for England, holy shit. That'd be unbelievable. That was the best game he's ever played for England. He was fucking playing defense, blocked a shot with his balls at the end of the game. He's dropping back. He's all over the pitch. Him and Jude Bellingham are legitimately world-class players. It's at the back they're going to struggle a little bit. That's the problem. Harry Kane, great tan, too. He's enjoying the United States of America's son that we are seeing some European Caucasoids see for the first time, both on the pitch and off the pitch.
2:23:00Pat McAfee:Harry Kane also just going by. Can't see a rules game. Stopping by a rules game. How old is Harry? I feel like I've been hearing his name for 20 years. I know. 32? 32 years old. When did he go pro? When he was 12. I started playing for Tottenham when he was 16. Damn. Yeah, we still don't know if he's 32 or 31. Maybe he might have a sauce garden. Yeah, true. But yeah, he went to a Royals game. They put him up in a suite. Tommy Tuchel. Tommy Tuchel. Fire to strike. Absolute strike. All these players now also get into Experience America. Like in between the games, what are you going to do? I guess I'll go watch MLB game.
2:23:33Pat McAfee:They'll put me up in a suite. They'll give me all the food. There's air conditioning here. the wheel in an IV if you want it. Did you see Arland? He was just pumped to be walking through New York and no one recognized him. I was about to say, that's probably the biggest part of this coming here. Even you see some videos of Messi down in like South Florida, like in a Publix or just somewhere and people just not by them. No way they can do that. Don't say that because I see a lot of people in the Instagram comment section for the most famous athlete on earth. And they're saying some very disrespectful stuff to the United States of America as if we don't count into the population of earth.
2:24:01Pat McAfee:You know what I mean? Whenever Messi and Ronaldo weren't number one and number two on the program feud? That was kind of stupid. Messi should have been one. But Messi was above Tom Brady, so we can't just completely, you know, because all the comments were, these must be stupid Americans that were polled. It was like, well, stupid Americans would have Tom Brady, I think, higher than Messi. So I don't know who all was polled. We weren't told exactly. Average Americans. It was just sports fans. No, sports fans. Average sports fans. Messi, most famous guy on earth? Yes. No. Him or Ronaldo? Yeah. Christiano Ronaldo.
2:24:33Pat McAfee:How do you go by fame? Know of or recognize? How do we go by? Both. Following. Michael Jordan? I mean, we talk about the world. Yeah, Messi, every soccer country, right? Every country that has soccer as their main country, which is a lot of countries. Messi can't, right? Messi, as soon as he walks.
2:24:55Mark Schlabach:Mobbed.
2:24:56Pat McAfee:Boom.
2:24:56Mark Schlabach:Yeah.
2:24:56Pat McAfee:That's the one. We're talking like all of Europe, Asia. Yep, South America. South America. Africa. Africa as well, right? A lot of soccer. Australia. Probably. Maybe. I don't know. Who knows? Because White Grellisans are not a soccer country. True. Which we'll find out today, I guess. Yeah, we will. Socceroos. So he is mobbed immediately in all those places. Right? Yeah. Is that what we're expecting? Yes. Cristiano Ronaldo as well? Same deal. Yes. The young kid, Lamin, Yamal, like, that kid would be. I mean, he's not where those guys are now, but he would be. I would put him over most, like, NBA guys if you're talking about, like, world popularity.
2:25:27How about Michael Jordan?
2:25:28Pat McAfee:Michael Jordan, any country? You put him in, he's getting recognized? I think so. Dream team. And then also his 6 '6".
2:25:35Mark Schlabach:His shoes themselves. That's the big thing, I think. With LeBron being, it's like Messi's tiny. So he can kind of just, like, you see LeBron, it's like, what the fuck is this thing?
2:25:44Pat McAfee:I think you could throw Shaq in there, too, because he's just so much physicality there. Yeah, because anywhere he goes, you're going to see him. Yes, exactly.
2:25:52Mark Schlabach:And I guess that goes back to Wemby being on there. It's like, how many 7 '5 people are you seeing?
2:25:57Pat McAfee:Yeah, so anytime he is anywhere, he is the person that everybody is looking for.
2:26:01Mark Schlabach:Because you just immediately stare at him.
2:26:04Pat McAfee:So does that become, does that count as the most famous athlete? Like what does the most famous athlete mean? You know? Is it in person? Is it online? Is it? I think I would say in person. So Wemby definitely. Airports around the world. But yeah, Wemby, like, but like if you're talking about like normal, let's just talk about normal size humans. Because obviously you talk about, you know, Jordan and Shaq and Wemby. Those guys, even if you don't know who they are, you're like, what? This guy does something. What's going on? Giannis walks, okay, who is this guy? But like, Tiger Woods would be like a normal-sized human.
2:26:36Like, he would be up in that category. I think he should be up there. What about Peyton? I wouldn't put him in that category. So many commercials.
2:26:44Pat McAfee:I do wonder if that's an international appeal. I bet you he could walk anywhere internationally and probably not get.
2:26:49Mark Schlabach:Yeah, I agree. I think over there, I would say they think most white people look very similar. Especially he had a helmet on for so long. It's just like, he just looked like, this is just a white guy. He's big. Tom Brady was married to Giselle, which was an international superstar, so that bumped his fame up. Also playing the Super Bowl ten times. Super Bowl, a bunch of times. International people are watching.
2:27:11Pat McAfee:So, like, Travis Kelsey, you know, I guess, because he had the Swift in, like, five, ten years probably, will be potentially known as. Oh, yeah. It's interesting. That program feud was so much fun. Yeah, it was awesome. That was so much fun. I hope we get a chance to do it again. Same. We got to do it again. We need a fucking rematch. Is that how the game is going to go? You guys are just going to get rematched? Because I thought everybody was saying to you guys, oh, no. They weren't saying that. They were saying the Thunder Dogs, more like Thunder Dogs. No. Yeah, we'll NFL Live out against some other team.
2:27:50Mark Schlabach:Let's see how entertaining it is because they brought nothing to the table except for poopy answers that only other people knew.
2:27:55Pat McAfee:That's the only thing that matters in the game. Okay.
2:27:59Mark Schlabach:Entertainment has nothing to do with the game. We gave better answers. I was very surprised that the program feud Dodds did not punish them
2:28:08Pat McAfee:for their lack of supportive good answer, good answer to each other. I thought that was a massive piece of it. But they were so cerebral. I think that is why they ended up winning. And the Thunderdogs just had to sit there. You actually sitting down pot and saying, oh, no.
2:28:22Mark Schlabach:I just lost the first ever program feud. I saw a lot of people saying the reason they won is because they got 10 seconds
2:28:26Pat McAfee:to answer every time they went. Now, they said, if we're going to make excuses, people will continue to say to the Thunderdogs, oh, no, boys, you lost at home. We don't love it. But I would like to see, because you guys, I think because it was being hosted here, you guys would be the, you started as champs. Right. So I think to become the champs, you do have to be the champs twice.
2:28:47Mark Schlabach:Well, that was an exhibition, too. We never, we did, pink slips are not on the line, belts are not on the line. You know, we didn't know that.
2:28:53Pat McAfee:Well, it was, it was not an exhibition. It was maybe the first certified one because there was actually marketing.
2:28:58Mark Schlabach:It's kind of like week zero. Kind of like week zero. Well said. Yep. Preseason. Never happened, actually. Okay, so we're just moving on. Now we know. We got it set. We got the mics. Yeah, we got it set. The entrances. The audio. The sound.
2:29:10Pat McAfee:Yeah, we got it all figured out. Everything's good now. Also, a great match. I mean, it came down to the last answer. I can't believe they picked Brett Favre there. Yeah, I can't believe Brett Favre was the final answer to have somebody else beat you guys in our building. Stupid America. Yeah, I mean, that's how it goes. That's how it goes sometimes. Okay, so the next one will be for the title, though.
2:29:28Mark Schlabach:Yeah. Okay. If we're able to have one.
2:29:30Pat McAfee:Now, I will take back my oh no to you guys. Okay. Thank you. Okay, because you have a chance to right your wrongs, as does everybody. But, boys, I think there was some good oh no's this week, was it not, Tone? Yeah, we are going to start with the Shinnecock oh no's, and we're going to start with Patrick Reed. That's a P, not an F. He is in the native area where a lot of people have been all week. And he goes from the native area to the native area, probably grabbed the hosel a bit there, and that's a big fat O-N-O.
2:30:10Mark Schlabach:Let's go to the seventh hole after that. Par three, JJ Spahn looks fantastic in the all-white. He hits a beautiful shot. Arkin up in the air. You can see he's still kind of in it at plus three. Lands it right in front of the bunker. Wonderful. Rolling. Rolling. Rolling. Rolling. Okay, we're good. Ball stopped finally. He's okay. Finish out the tees. Let's pick that thing up. Let's walk to our ball on the green. See where we are. Give me that putter maybe. Oh, no, wait.
2:30:43Pat McAfee:He got Shinnecocked.
2:30:44Mark Schlabach:He got Shinnecocked. Ball starts to roll. He's headed towards the bunker. unfortunately for JJ Spahn and I do believe it was picked up on a hot mic when he walked up to the green he just said oh no and then we're gonna stay at Shinnecock uh because a lot of bad things have happened uh Billy Horschel he's gonna chip one up onto the green he's thinking hey I'm just gonna put this one right in the center wait a minute that's pretty firm that thing's moving pretty quickly uh please slow down slow okay nope it's gonna catch the slope and it's gonna roll about 45 yards past the pin. No big deal, though.
2:31:21Mark Schlabach:You just got to take your medicine at Shinnecock. Play for a par. So what's he going to do? He's going to chip it up. Oh, no. Just sit. Just sit. Just sit. Just sit. Oh, no! God damn it. This is rolling right back to my feet. But again, you know, that's not a big deal. Okay? Hey, you know what? I'll just take bogey here. Double bogey. And then he's going to... Oh, no! He went right after it. He ends up getting an eight Billy Horschel. More like Billy Horschel. All right, let's leave Shinnecock. Let's go international. Let's go to what looks to be an English watch party. The lad here who is in possession of a few pints is wearing an English kit at the English watch party, I believe, against Croatia.
2:32:08We've got another lad here. Oh! Slide tackle! Slide tackle! We went studs up slide tackle. Pints are all over the place. The man is embarrassed. His friends are laughing in his face. Just an ultimate. Oh! Wait, is that a word? What happened here? Hold on. Hold on.
2:32:25Pat McAfee:Yeah, and why did the guy with the two beers not immediately get up and try to fight this guy? Guy goes cleats up after he just brought the beers down, two pints right to the ground. And I don't know how this guy doesn't get concussed face off the ground. Was this a work? What happened? Is this normal gumpy? Is this soccer normalcy? People slide tackling each other in public? Yeah, that's classic England. Boys are on the piss just raising hell. You see it when they score a goal in the pub. They just throw all their beers in the air. They're just booze everywhere. That's what it's all about for these England lads.
2:32:53Pat McAfee:So maybe we shouldn't say, oh, no. Maybe it's, oh, yeah. It's coming home. Not today. Not today. Coming home, no. It's staying here, yeah. Absolutely. Jeez Louise. That's an interesting thing. You think that would be a fight? Yeah. You think? I mean, we've all done that to our boys. Robbie respected the slide tackle because it was clean. I mean, there was a time where you were doing the bottle bump. Yeah. The bottle bump thing was certainly a nightmare.
2:33:24Mark Schlabach:The World Cup bottle bump.
2:33:25Pat McAfee:You know, that trip, the back leg, the little back leg kick. People were doing that. Flat tire. Wearing a couple, holding a couple beers and just pantsing them. Yeah. Penis out and all. Yeah, exactly. And they got to do that. So I guess that's just the English way. Just do full commit, cleats up, slide tackle to a guy. They were celebrating. Spill it both. I mean, certainly. So I guess it's not really. Oh, no. We stay on the train, though, do we not?
2:33:50Mark Schlabach:Yeah, let's go to the Knicks parade. Of course, great vibes. There's a lot of different things we could have pulled. Guy twerking on the thing. The other guy passed out trying to make out with the girl. And then she basically says, hey, I'm just trying to resuscitate you. Stop. Let's go to Tyler Kolick. He's having a great time, obviously, celebrating with the fans. Didn't get much burn. And that's why this cop says, whoa, slow down, white guy. You better get the hell out of here. You are not on the team. You got a couple of security guys coming over saying, whoa, Tyler Kolick, he's a legend from Marchetti at the barbecue chicken thing.
2:34:20Mark Schlabach:He is a player on the Knicks. Please do not get him out of here. Don't kick him out. He actually does play. But I believe these cops didn't think it was Tyler Kolick. I believe they thought it was Tyler.
2:34:31Pat McAfee:Oh, no. I'm a racist by the cops. That's what I would say. If you were to do, if the cops all were to run and you were trying to stop the one that wasn't a cop, I think the cop that stopped Tyler would be the one that we would say, that doesn't look like a cop. No. That's what cops look like. We didn't know that's what they look like. So I think there could be a couple little misunderstandings here. But I do appreciate the fact that a guy who does appear to be somebody that could be in the crowd is now a world champion with the New York Knicks. And I've seen him with a microphone on top of a parade.
2:35:04Pat McAfee:I think Tyler was living his best life. Congrats to all of the Knicks. And to that cop, people are going to say, you don't know, Paul. And to that, we say, oh, no.
2:35:15Mark Schlabach:Let's stay in New York on the diamond. Jazz Chisholm for the Yankees. You know, we got a 2-2 count here. Tie game in the bottom of the fourth. Oh, boy. Oh, no. Yeah, oh, no is right. He's going to clip the top of that baseball. And you can see it bounces right off home plate. hits him directly in the penis. I mean, we're not talking like little bit of one nut, little bit of the other nut. That hits him. Oh, clearly. The twig and berries. Yeah, exactly. And you can see Jazz is just dying. He's dying right away. Rumor has it he left the game immediately. He did not finish the at-bat. You can see all the boys are laughing because it's funny.
2:35:54Mark Schlabach:They weren't laughing in the clubhouse when Jazz's penis swelled up to the size of one of those torpedo bats. Really? Yeah, it was a direct hit. I mean, once again, just boom. He left the game. Yeah, he left the game immediately. Immediately. I mean, what are you going to do?
2:36:12Pat McAfee:Jazz Chizzo. Oh, no. We're so sorry to hear that. That is no fun. He had a puking feeling. Oh, yeah. I mean, he had everything. That was a tough, tough outing for Jazz.
2:36:23Mark Schlabach:I hope he's okay because if I think I know anything about Jazz, he's not wearing a cup. He's one of those guys who he's not wearing a cup. No way. Yeah, absolutely not. For an infielder, you know, you typically are going to do that because you might take a bad hop and a ground ball might hit you right in the twig and giggle bears. You're not thinking you're going to hit one off the front of the bat and it's going to hit you directly in the penis and that thing is going to swell up to the size of your baseball bat. But that's what happened. I hope he's not out too long.
2:36:49Pat McAfee:We hope he's okay. Yeah, I do hope he's okay. T's and P's. Everything affected. Yes. I can't help but go, oh, no. Baseball, more of it. Yeah, let's stay in the baseball world. Let's go to second base where the runner is coming in, sliding in there. Oh, he's out. Oh. What a second. Can you run that back? That's actual punch. That was all perfect. Yeah, that was intentional. That was intentional. The more I watch this, that was intentional the entire time. This kid probably was chirping off earlier in the game. Just trying to get one right to the face. Actual punch, D-Bot. Actual punch out right here.
2:37:26Pat McAfee:Now, we broke this down a little bit earlier in the week. I do think the ump was so focused on the call. On punching him in the face. And where it was. Guy was also safe. Yes. So we think he got the call wrong and punched Guy out. So for all parties here, we can't help but say, oh, no. All right. We appreciate you all. There's one more here. And this one, this one is devastating.
2:37:50Mark Schlabach:Yeah.
2:37:51Pat McAfee:This one is an oh, no, that will lead us into the greatest weekend of all time.
2:37:54Mark Schlabach:Yeah. Chance, you can probably put this one up there for the Hall of Fame. Let's go to Germany bike race. Unfortunately, some guy maybe was blind, maybe didn't see that there was a bike race going on. He takes his scooter right into the lane and basically costs a 50-car pileup, the equivalent to, I think, to Jazz Chisholm. I think this guy's dealing with the same exact thing. I believe we had a couple nuts right to the bike. It was very, very tough for this line.
2:38:22Pat McAfee:A couple pints, obviously, in the hands of the spectators here, obviously get out there and watch these bicycles fly around. Is this in the Tour? Is this the Tour de France? This is not the Tour de France. Obviously, the biking racing world is gigantic in Europe throughout the mountains and everything like that. Tim McAfee was actually a triathlete, so we were doing a lot of biking. I was watching him do some biking growing up. We went to one of these races, and everybody came through except for Tim McAfee. Where the hell is this guy? We have no idea, so we started walking back, and we see him carrying his bike over his shoulder and his helmet in like a thousand pieces and he's just clacking down.
2:39:03Pat McAfee:He ended up obviously missing a turn going into the woods, hitting a tree. The bike explodes. His helmet explodes and he has to walk down. So obviously my mom, Sally McAfee, made him take like a two-year hiatus from the entire thing because he almost died while we were out there. Understandable. But those bike crashes, holy fuck, they are devastating. They're flying too. We'll see them too. But yeah, they're flying and the wheels are this wide. The wheels are this wide. Then the pileup it causes. Yes. Oh, yeah. There's a slide. There's impact and then there's also slide. So it's concussion and broken bone possibilities.
2:39:37Pat McAfee:I mean, even death and obviously the absolute worst case scenario. But then you're sliding on concrete as well. So it's like the old burn. Yeah, road rash. Absolute worst. And it feels like we see a lot of them come out of these races. People will walk across and just get absolutely sideswiped. In this case, the brakes, I think the brakes probably didn't. No. They didn't do much. They flipped them. No, no, but I'm saying on the cart. Oh, yeah. Well, I mean. On the chair. I think on the wheelchair. What the fuck are you doing? I think the brakes didn't stop. I think there was, oh, no, and then we're out there already.
2:40:07Pat McAfee:Trying to watch it. He couldn't see it. No serious injuries were reported. We have to report that, obviously, but certainly one massive, oh, no. All right, let's go get ready for this Team USA game. Here we go. Fucking go, boys. Hey, boys, great work on the oh, no there.
2:40:22Mark Schlabach:great work put one in here it's good on me remember this is not a universe ball nope nope
2:40:35Pat McAfee:good line good touch okay we will continue to attempt that at the end of every show that we are live for until the end of the world cup a 50 000 giveaway could have happened if that world cup ball would have won into that hoop but what we do know can happen right now still and we have 11 minutes and 56 seconds left until the USA is scheduled to kick off against Australia. You can come join us on DraftKings for America's Game 2 guarantee. You have to opt in at the top. You then will apply your token after you make your three-way gamble on the United States of America. If USA wins, you will win, obviously.
2:41:09Pat McAfee:If USA draws or loses, you will get your wager back in bonus bets. We can't thank DraftKings enough for doing this. This is a true patriotic feel. It is. This is a true team ride. This is a true, hey, let's go. If you're 21 plus and promise not to have a gambling problem and not think that you're going to be able to become a millionaire from sports gambling, we hope you will join us on DraftKings and kind of have a little bit of action on Team USA as we watch the boys continue to try to get to the top of the world.
