In short
Live from the ESPYs Lounge in New York on ESPYs Eve, the hosts recap the Home Run Derby and All-Star week, then interview Cardinals rookie Jordan Walker (Home Run Derby champion). They also discuss MLB’s spectacle appeal, betting/strategy for the All-Star Game, and football chatter including Aaron Donald’s potential NFL return.
Guests (backgrounds)
- Jordan Walker: St. Louis Cardinals outfielder/slugger; won the Home Run Derby at age 24. First-round pick; described as a fast, athletic player and a “30-30” candidate.
- Peter Schrager: Emmy-winning NFL insider/commentator (former NFL Network/ESPN figure), present at the lounge; shifts the conversation to Aaron Donald and the Rams.
- AJ Hawk: Former NFL linebacker and TV personality; joins as a co-host/guest during the live segment.
- Mark Schlabach: Sports journalist (ESPN/college football coverage background) appearing as a host/guest.
- Mikaela Shiffrin: Olympic alpine skier and major sports figure, present at the lounge.
- Jordan Walker is the main interview subject; the others appear in the live discussion.
Key claims
- Walker’s Derby run included hitting six straight home runs to win; Barry Bonds called it the best Derby he’d ever seen.
- The “magenta balls” were designed to be “juiced,” but nobody got hot with them until Walker.
- MLB still treats All-Star week as special; players view the events as an honor.
- For the All-Star Game, pitching availability makes betting difficult; the hosts lean slightly NL but say it’s hard to know starters.
Notable examples
- Philadelphia crowd booing and cheering throughout the Derby.
- Walker’s mindset: he pictured a “million bucks” scenario and stayed calm despite Schwarber’s performance.
- Football segment: Rams and Aaron Donald—hosts say the key question is whether he’s ready to be his full self, not snap-count limits.

Automatic transcript. May contain errors.0:00Pat McAfee:Hello, beautiful people, and welcome to the ESPYs Lounge here in beautiful New York City on this ESPYs Eve, July 14th. This program starts now. Sports! All right, the absolute greatest thing, and we're celebrating all of that here in beautiful New York City. We're so incredibly lucky and thankful to be here. They have shut down the lounge for us to be here. Now, there's about 30 people that are being told what they need to do in this lounge over the next two days. as all the stars from both the sports world, pop culture, Hollywood, music come through here. And we've just kind of invaded it completely.
0:35Pat McAfee:We've taken over half this place. There's certainly people that are not going to be happy about this. The guy that runs the ESPYs hates our show. But we are very, very thankful to be here. And we are very thankful for the hospitality. This is beautiful. There's a Hummer EV set up over here. I don't know if somebody's going to walk in here and buy themselves an electric Hummer. But there's a chance, I guess, that that could happen. As somebody who owns one, because I wanted to save the world with my electric vehicles. I'd say you guys do a really good job. The top, though, the four glass, the window, the glass tops, really, really cool.
1:05Pat McAfee:Except for when there's no clouds in the sky and also when it rains. Okay. But other than that, most convenient car I've ever had in my life, and it looks sweet. You've had it for a while, though. Long time. I've had one of you guys for four years now. Yeah, because you're saving the world. Well, the mines are one thing, but yeah, sure. In a way. No, but I plug it in at night, go to work. I thank these people. I've never seen any of those. I've heard about those. I don't love that. Jake Paul is right here. I had no idea that was going to be the case. Shout out to W. You know, you want to get a W, spray a W, smell better.
1:39Pat McAfee:There's a bar right here that will be touched because we were in an Irish pub until about 4 a.m. this morning. Because traveling over here, celebrating the Home Run Derby last night. What? How could you not go around the corner, especially when Bruce Brown's back in town? Hey, Bruce. Hey, Bruce. Way to go, Bruce. Back in the New York room. Football's coming home with Thomas Tuchel. Yeah, Bruce still boozed up. Bruce really put on a show last night. I think he let the entire city know he was back. Gumpy, do we have that video of him exiting the bar last night? Foxy, do you have that? Yes, we do.
2:10Pat McAfee:This happened at about 3.45 this morning in New York City, just so you guys know what we're dealing with here. Yeah, okay. So that is how we got here. Welcome to my city. Yeah, that was about eight hours ago. so we are going to try. Hey, Bruce, yeah, I'm back. What is he, Bruce? Wood chips, good chips, friendships, whatever. Yeah, red chips, blue chips, old chips, new chips. No chips like friendships, pal. Did you bust it out last night? No, he just butchered it right there. He did a fantastic job. It's been amazing. Yesterday, home run derby was obviously spectacular. Jet passing is more like jet pass hole for what he said about what that derby was going to be.
2:49Pat McAfee:He said he didn't think it was going to be good. A lot of people thought the 20 swings was going to take forever. We do not know what the Netflix broadcast was. We watched the Honnold broadcast. We could probably guess what it was like. We read what it was like online. They're going to obviously just getting into something. They're going to learn their shit. They're going to learn their thing. Being there live in person. Barry Bonds said it afterwards to Jordan. Jordan Walker will be joining us in about 12 minutes or so out of the St. Louis Cardinals. What a fantastic story. His year salary,$799 ,000.
3:15Pat McAfee:He wins a million dollars last night. And immediately after hitting six straight home runs in Philadelphia to Beach Schwarbo, he actually goes like this and then celebrates. It was very clear. Like when I was high school kicking, learning how to kick a football, they always tell you, like, put yourselves in situations in your mind whenever you kick. So I would always put myself in a money mindset. Like, hey, if I make this kick, somebody's going to give me a million bucks. Hey, if I make this kick, I'm going to get a million bucks. Last night, he literally walked into that place and said, hey, if I can hit more home runs than everybody here, I can get a million bucks right now, which means more to him than anybody else that was in that field.
3:51Pat McAfee:Schwarbo's got like$400 million in career earnings or something like that. Obviously, Bryce Harper, just his marketing deal is obviously worth more than that. 24-year-old dude out of Georgia steps up in a big moment in Philadelphia and does what he does, especially to end that thing with the magenta ball. We hadn't seen that all night. Nobody had gotten hot with the magenta balls. We've been watching that. We've been hoping for that. Magenta balls, if you ask the pitchers who got to feel those balls, He's juiced. He's what Mizorowski's exact words were. These are juiced balls. We never want to touch these.
4:19Skeens goes, every once in a while, just by happenstance,
4:24Pat McAfee:there will come a run of games where this is what the ball feels like. And that's whenever everybody starts saying the balls are juiced, the balls are juiced. But MLB says the balls aren't juiced. This is just how they get made. The magenta balls were made to be juiced. They were made to be juiced. But I think for some reason either the guys couldn't see them well or it wasn't coming out as well. So nobody got hot with the magenta ball, which I think was the goal of the magenta ball, until he hit six straight to win the entire thing in Schwarbo's home. You're talking about just cinema. Last night was awesome.
4:53Pat McAfee:The weather was perfect. The lads were perfect. We got a chance to talk to a lot of people. We got a chance to chit-chat with a lot of legends. We are very thankful for MLB, for the hospitality and their contributions. But also, the Home Run Derby is still an event that is awesome. We've lost a lot of things in this sports world. that are celebrating the greats and celebrating a sport. We all know the Pro Bowl has become ass. I don't know how you fix it, to be honest. Because if I was playing a real position and if I was still playing and they said, hey, you need to go out there and tackle each other after a season's over, I would tell everybody to go eat shit too if I was a Pro Bowler, which is what we've gotten to at this standpoint.
5:29Pat McAfee:So they're trying to figure it out with flag football and obstacle course and shit. The NBA All-Star, obviously we know what they're doing. NHL figured it out with the Four Nations. But you've got like five guys that got hurt from that. So who knows how long that's going to continue to go. I think the hockey players will continue to do it. The fact that the baseball players love this event and still want to show up for baseball I think is a big deal. And the fact that he's 24 years old and has already won means we've got another 10 years of him in this home run derby. And after seeing him in person and getting a chance to fist bump him, he is a Goliath.
5:57Pat McAfee:This guy is an absolute monster, and he's also one of the fastest players on the Cardinals. I guess he's become the first 30-30 guy that they've had in a long time, or going to become the first 30-30 guy in a long time. He said hello to the world. We'll talk to him in 15 minutes. I think his contract's up, too. So he really did it all. That's an amazing story from last night. Amazing event last night. And shout out to the Philadelphia crowd. Yeah. They were booing kids. They were awesome. They were booing batters. They were cheering for everything. I mean, from beginning until the end. And it wasn't nearly as long.
6:28Pat McAfee:No. It was a lot better in person. I think everybody was scared of. In person, we've gotten a chance not to go to the last two. Once again, new to the baseball world, new to baseball coverage. Very thankful that we get to do it. Last year felt long and boring. Yes. This year felt awesome. It did. And MLB, to their credit, last year felt long and boring. They made adjustments, and the players, big-time players, still wanted to be a part of it. They showed up. Obviously, that's Jason Kendall. Wow. No big deal. That's the first time. That's Jason Kendall. You with the jersey on, just awesome. They had no idea he was going to be there.
7:01No idea. See, on his knee. Period out of nowhere.
7:04Pat McAfee:I did not know Jason Kendall was 5 '10", 5 '11", okay? But that makes sense. He was a catcher. He had to do his thing. He wore no gloves ever. It shows. Yeah, his hands are, like, ladies and gentlemen. The calloused. College football national champion, Super Bowl champion, Ryder Cup winner, and a man who just got a sack on the Miz. What? Ladies and gentlemen, guy who came in top 50 in Tahoe, A.J. Hawk. Thank you. Hawk, how you doing, pal? We missed you. I genuinely thought coming out of Tahoe, you weren't going to be able to make any of these shows. Thank you for traveling out here to New York.
7:42Pat McAfee:Yesterday was spectacular. The All-Star game is tonight. MLB still feels like it's special. Like this still feels like a special week. And every player we talk to still feels as if it's an honor to get invited. We talked to Skeeno a lot. We talked to Skeeno a lot yesterday. It's his second All-Star, and he's still like a child, our third All-Star. He's like a child out there. You know, Miz, we talked to Miz. Last year he makes his first All-Star game. This is the second one. They're talking about the conversation that happened in the clubhouse before this home run derby started as if they're listening to legends speak and they're doing this entire thing.
8:15Pat McAfee:Braxton Ashcraft out of the Pirates. He's a stud football player out of Waco, Texas, who's now an incredible pitcher for the Pirates. He normally, from my understanding, he's a football guy. He's a lot chatty, chatty, chatty. I guess there was about three hours of silence out of that band in the clubhouse as all the OGs were kind of giving game to each other. So I think MLB still treats this as a special thing. We're lucky to be a part of it. Wish you would have been there, obviously, fresh out of Tahoe. But I do appreciate the fact that their league still takes it serious, the celebration of their league.
8:47Absolutely. I watched the Netflix broadcast. How was it? It was good. Pool host, Barry Bonds, I loved their insight, everything they were doing. El Duncan kind of directing everything. I thought it was good. I expected it to be 10 hours long. I really did. So the fact that they were able to keep it moving like they were.
9:02Pat McAfee:People were really talking shit on the coverage. Now, you've got to remember. It's because there's no Chris Berman. On that note, though, I remember when people hated Berman. It's an interesting... Telling how it works. Everyone wants to go back to this whole nostalgia thing. I don't know. I loved it. The only thing I don't like is why do we have to have Bryce Harper and Schwarbo in the same... Why did one of them have to get eliminated in the first round? Because Harper wasn't able to hit enough homers. He didn't hit enough homers. Put them in different flights. Do something so they can meet up.
9:32Do something. Did you watch? Don't lie. The idea would be that both those guys hit enough homers to advance to the next round. Yeah, but Harper got put in a tough spot.
9:40Pat McAfee:Nine-year NFL vet Darius J. Butler was down on the field there. But some of the guys said that maybe you're at a different altitude for a little bit of a... Really? You did come down from the rafters. I think we did enjoy that. Over 75 home runs in the first round. We hit that. What a night. What a time. Harper got us over the top. I enjoyed myself. Yesterday, it was a great welcome back for me, for the program. From wire to wire, from where we started to where we ended last night with Bruce. Leaving the bar, whoever left after him. It was an absolute great run. Obviously, we streamed yesterday, too.
10:11Okay. I told Pat this before. I was like, oh, man, he's going live. So, Pat goes live. The first thing that pops up, as soon as you're – I click on it. You got Kangardview Jr. standing right behind you guys in the dugout. It's all where the flyover was. When you dap up Owen Wilson, he says, I want to come to the football set. Then Will Ferrell. Yeah. Luke Wilson. Luke Wilson. The whole Wilson family, obviously. so they can do no wrong in my eyes. He looks like he's 22 years old, and then Will Ferrell right here. And you just go down the line the first, like, five. Jimmy Tatro as well. Come on.
10:44Pat McAfee:I am so sorry, Jimmy. I was captivated by Will. You have to understand what that was. A lot of people in the comments saying that I kind of left Jimmy hanging or whatever, I would, like, let Jimmy know, legend, trailblazer. Love everything about him. I was just kind of caught up in the eye black on Will Ferrell and also wanting to tell him about every movie that really changed my life. Wanted to tell him semi-pro, watched three times in a theater. I wanted to tell him that I was the one Anchorman also went to the theater did that entire thing I wanted to just break down everything that he did was great because a lot of people were saying as of late he hasn't maybe thrown a fastball that's good it's like how much do you want this guy to do go back to like his first 50 movies and he was like I'm 39 it was incredible everybody was so nice
11:26yeah okay I hope so
11:27Pat McAfee:because Will Ferrell deserves to have a you know a thing that still goes because there was a couple of misses. There's been, anytime you're doing comedy, anytime you're doing it for that long, and the way Will Ferrell does it, he's all in. So there's opportunity to suck. And there's certainly a couple movies that he's been a part of that have been completely ass and have missed the mark. But what Will Ferrell has contributed to my life, and I think all of our lives, I just wanted in the moment that I didn't know he was going to be there. And I would like to let Jimmy know I got lost in making sure I let Will Ferrell know that he was appreciative.
11:57Pat McAfee:He wasn't the only one, though. I mean, Don Mattingly was there. I got a chance to chat with him. All the legends were out. Cranston. Brian Cranston. Cranston watches the show. That was pretty cool. That was insane. Who's the writer? Anita Brunson or no? Oh, Abbott Elementary. Quinta Brunson. Yeah, there you go. Quinta Brunson. She was there. Kyle Lowry. Kyle Lowry. I mean, so many. Jimmy Rowley. I'm just seeing this for the first time. Yeah. Yeah, I didn't see it. Cranston. Yeah. Yeah, and let's not even talk about – I would like to say, though, Ty, if Jason can, I told him to get in there. Come on, Jay.
12:31Yeah.
12:31Pat McAfee:Come on, Jay, I need you in here. Ty, if you make that your profile photo, I'd like to say there's multiple options. I don't know if you've looked at them yet. I haven't. Zoomed in portrait mode. You did. You did. You hooked it up. Yeah, yeah. Well, I try to get profile photos. Yeah. Because I do think that is. I like. He's a beast. Yeah, he's an absolute monster. Very cool. When I told him I needed three home runs from Bryce Harper to get to 75, he looked at me. He was like, he's going to hit three. Then he didn't. Yeah, he did. He did take his sweet time on it. And then there was like six swings where he looked back at me and I'm like, yeah, shut up.
13:00Pat McAfee:It was very apparent. And this happened at that wedding that I was very lucky to be through the last time I was here and at that thing. It's crazy the amount of people that we have so much respect for that know that we exist now. We're very lucky, very thankful, and very appreciative for it all. ESPY's here is tomorrow. We're very thankful for whoever we get a chance to stop by. This lounge is where everybody checks in. Dom. Big Dom. Tom took care of us. Tom brought me some beers. Asked me if I wanted some chicken cutlets. Yeah, you need some cutlets, some cheese toast. Literally asked me if I wanted some cutlets while I was sitting down.
13:32Like right there, do you have them with him? I will get them. He always does. The first interaction was so, so Italian. As soon as quick dab, okay, move, whatever you need, just let me know.
13:42Pat McAfee:It was the most Italian. Yeah, he walks up, and I tell him, I go, hey, you know, because we're streaming. Okay, I go, hey. He goes, my man. Okay, he goes, you're the best. Okay, hope you're good. And then another guy shows up, and he points at the guy, and he goes, hey, you guys are the best, and then walks away. And it was, like, the most Italian interaction it could possibly be. Dom, I think, is going to be on the program soon. I was trying to put a little pressure on him to come on the show. You know, Dom does what he wants to do. He is obviously an icon in Philly. And I know outside of Philadelphia, the narrative about him is whatever.
14:15Pat McAfee:We got a chance to experience a little. There he is right there. Hey, guys, you're the best. You're the best. You just did the entire thing right there. I know whatever people say about him outside of Philly because I don't think any other city has a human like this guy. In Philly, though, we were watching it happen. He is exactly what everybody from Philly. He does want to know, though, who on the program talks shit about him. And I said, I don't know. Right here. That's the toxic table at Boston Conner and at Ty Schmidt down there. One half of the hammer. Cowboys AP Tone. Tone, you hit last night, okay?
14:46Pat McAfee:We obviously did the first round over 74.5. Shout out to DraftKings for letting us boost that. Also, plus 120 for that felt great. Yeah, it did. That felt like a really good boost. We appreciate them doing that. You also immediately yesterday said, hey, with the way the winds blow in this park with the people in here, 485 is the over-under for longest. Contreras, first guy out the bat, had 480, 483, 487, 490. That was like we knocked that out immediately. For the All-Star game, what is there to bet on, and how should we kind of be viewing that? It's hard. It's really, really hard, especially because, you know, there's a lot of pitchers who just pitched this weekend, so they're not available to go now like Schittler.
15:23Schittler can't go for the Yankees. What's his name? Schittler. Cam Schittler. We saw him in the elevator last night.
15:28Pat McAfee:Yeah, no, he just called him Schittler. Better than the other one. Schittler almost walked right in the main concourse, by the way. Nobody's going to talk about that. Yeah. He almost just – Saved him. Saved him. He was like, where are the buses? I was like, not this way. Don't follow us. He was – everybody's so cool. Literally everybody's so cool. But, like, it's so hard to, like, know who's going tonight. Like, Skeens can't go for the NL tonight, but Chris Sanchez is going, who's been an absolute dog. Dylan Teese is getting a start for the AL. Like, pitching-wise, I lean a little bit to the NL, but it's hard to bet on tonight.
15:58Pat McAfee:Ladies and gentlemen, joining us now is the superstar from last night that we watched, an absolute dog. Yeah. From Georgia. I'm looking at him right now. Got a great chain on. Got some nice sunglasses. He's got a new deal coming. And he's also got seven figures because his bat got real hot. Ladies and gentlemen, St. Louis Cardinals home run derby champion, Jordan Walker. Yay! What's going on, guys? What's going on, sir? Congrats, man. That was awesome to watch. And I let off with talking about this because we were there. You were a monster of a man. I mean, baseball players are so big. I think we forget about that.
16:35Pat McAfee:Like, Schwerbo, 5 '10", or whatever. Everybody else, monster. That was our first time getting to see you live. You put on a show. Everybody loved you. And what you did at the end of that thing, ice cold, bro. So congratulations on that. Appreciate it, man. Thank you. And, you know, big conversation now has been your salary versus what you won. Going into that, and I told the story about me. I was a kicker. And in high school, I would put myself in a position like, all right, if I make this kick, somebody's going to walk up and give me a million bucks. If I, like, trying to put a little pressure on myself.
17:07Pat McAfee:Going into last night, knowing that a million dollars is on the line and that you certainly have the ability to do that. And I saw you make it rain, too, immediately afterwards. What was the thought? And when you get there and you have to hit, like, six home runs with only, like, three swings left, what is the mindset? What's the mentality? Can you just take us back to last night and your special night? Yeah, man. I mean, it was crazy, in all honesty, man. The stadium's packed. Everybody's booing. You know what I mean? Like, but I never doubted myself, to be honest with you. And Schwarber put on an unreal performance.
17:38In all honesty, I think I kind of blacked out there. For real. and just took my swings and, you know, did my best. But it was definitely, Schwartz made it tough.

17:47Pat McAfee:Barry said it was the best home run derby he's ever seen. I mean, honestly, they had the Barry Bonds-McGuire one from 1996 running back when it was in Philadelphia, and it was like empty park. It was in the middle of the day. What the home run derby has become is an absolute spectacle. With the new rules, nobody knew what it was going to be. It's on Netflix. It's like you're a huge piece of that being a massively successful night. You should take a lot of pride in that, obviously. but there's a couple home runs where you wristed them. It looked like you didn't even hit them clean. And by the way, I'm going to follow you for the rest of your career at 24.
18:18Pat McAfee:You need to do that. I cannot wait to watch you play baseball going forward. But was there a couple that you thought weren't going to go out that got out? Is there a couple early where you're like, oh, if that one's going out, this could be a good night? Is there a little bit of that early in the evening where you start feeling good about the way the ball is jumping off the bat or is that every night for you? And I just need to understand that. No, you're definitely right about the first one. But there was a couple I hit low that I was like, I don't know. But when they snuck out of there, I was like, okay, I got a chance.
18:46You know what I'm saying? Let's keep this thing going.
18:48Pat McAfee:Okay, so everybody talked about the amount of money that you get paid, and I think your contract's up. Hey. Good timing. Yeah. Hell of a season right now. I was going to say, Derby, yes. Had a pretty good first half, too. Yeah, and then we looked into your – we looked in a little bit, and we started asking people at the Cardinals. They're like, yeah, he's also going to be our first, like, 30 for 30 guy that we've had. He's, like, the fastest guy we have. And I'm like, he's, like, 642. He's like 6 '10". I don't know how tall this guy is. So, obviously, the future, very, very bright. We talked to Schwarbo yesterday.
19:16Pat McAfee:We talked to Bryce Harper yesterday. We talked to Scheno yesterday. We talked to Miz. The way you all hold All-Star Week and Home Run Derby, I think, is special. I think it's very sweet. I think a lot of other sports wish they still had that. For you, being a part of the Home Run Derby, now being a Home Run Derby champion, does it feel as if you are carrying on a tradition of baseball, of America's pastime, whenever you're in it? Why do you think you baseball players have so much respect for the spectacle that is All-Star break in the Home Run Derby still? I mean, honestly, for me personally, I mean, I've grown up living, breathing baseball.
19:49That's my favorite sport, you know, growing up. My parents talk about how I slept with my bat and my glove. And I watched the Home Run Derby when I was growing up, too. I mean, All-Star game, everything like that. It's been my dream to do it. So being a part of it, man, it was just special to me, you know. I mean, I don't know if you can truly explain how much you love the game. So I'm doing my best right now. But being a part of that was unreal, especially against the greats and future Hall of Famers like Harper and Schwarber as well. So it was super cool for them.
20:16Pat McAfee:Yeah, it feels like you're on your way to that too as well, brother. Now a lot of shit has to happen. A lot of shit has to happen, obviously. Baseball is such a failing sport. Like you have to fail so much in baseball to become successful, which is crazy. Talked to the boys about that last night, just the amount of mental toughness that I don't have to play that sport. I strike out in the first inning. I got to go back to third inning. I am still pissed. I am still pissed from that entire thing. So we can't wait to watch you do your thing. A.J. Hawk has a question for you, Jordan. Yeah, Jordan, I'm wondering, like, your prep as far as what you did getting ready for this.
20:45Who did you talk to? You don't have a whole lot of time, obviously, being in the middle of the season. And also, I guess your swagger slash, like, comfortability. You were so comfortable in the box. They talked about it on the broadcast a bunch. Just how comfortable and calm you were. Was that something that you had a plan going into? and obviously you executed it very well. Most absolutely. I mean, absolutely. I mean, I think you have to be. I mean, Philly is, I mean, they're brutal when you're the away team, but, you know, they love their teams. And, you know, you can't hate that for sure. So I knew it was going to be tough going into it, especially, you know, up against the guy like Schwarber.
21:17So if I wanted to win, I had to be calm and I had the best hype man possible with my teammates on the sidelines too. So it's been, it was unreal.
21:26Pat McAfee:How was afterwards? You guys have a terrible time? No, it was a pretty good night, is all I'm going to say. D-Bot has a question for you, Jordan. Yeah, Jordan, watching you, obviously, with those ledges after talking about, you know, putting on the best performance, Barry Bonds, saying that to your face. Who were some of those players that you watched growing up that you wanted to model your game after? You talked about you eat, breathe, and slept baseball. So who were some of those players you wanted to be like when you grew up? So coming out of Atlanta, I was a third baseman coming up, so I wanted to be like Chipper for a while.
21:57And then when Hayward debuted, I remember I was sitting out in left field. It was unreal with that, too. So then I was like, you know what? I want to be like him. So those are the two guys I remember just watching growing up when I was a kid.
22:13Pat McAfee:So, Chipper's too white. You didn't want to stick. I had a feeling you were going to say something like that. Diggs has a question for you, Jordan. Yeah, Jordan, like the Cardinals story this year. I'm a Pirates fan, so I follow NL Central closely. Like, the Pirates, I know, I know. Yeah, hey, we're on that ass, Jordan. But, hey, I'm a J.J. Weatherholt. He's a Pittsburgh guy, so I'm following it closely. Like, were you guys in the young core? How awesome has that been this season and then going into the second half to carry that along? Yeah, I mean, J.J. is a dog, honestly. I mean, just a dog.
22:46He does everything the right way. Honestly, if you talk about composure, it's him. So, he sets the tone, and, you know, we all get going from there.
22:54Pat McAfee:Yeah, that's the West Virginia Mountaineer, Jordan. You know the deal. Okay, so baseball at this stage, I'm not going to ask you about – you're 24, so you shouldn't say anything about the CBA negotiations because, no offense, you don't know shit about shit at this stage. You said it, not me, man. But also it's not like you to talk about that. But we're at such an interesting, like, it feels like pivot point for baseball as a whole. Seemingly more – like, I don't know what last night's numbers are going to be. going to be, but like everybody wanted to be there. Yeah. Building the sold out. Everybody's tuned into baseball.
23:29Pat McAfee:But then the conversation immediately goes to, yeah, the Dodgers, though. The Dodgers. The Dodgers. Who's going to beat the Dodgers? Who's going to beat the Dodgers? How do you guys do that with how long of a season is? When do you want to get hot? And like every team thinks we have enough to win a World Series. Because like Joe Thomas of the Cleveland Browns, he said whenever he went into the Hall of Fame in one of his interviews, he said every season coming out of training camp, I thought we were going to win a Super Bowl. Like that is what we had. They went 0-16, I think, twice while he was there.
23:56Pat McAfee:He thought they were going to win the Super Bowl. And I'm not saying you guys are Cleveland Browns, but I'm saying like every sport you have to have an unrelenting optimism about where your team is. You guys obviously have enough to go. And that is every team feels that way. Or in baseball, is there some teams that understand the deal or don't understand the deal, if that makes sense in the question. I mean, I would hope so. Because, I mean, everybody I've met has been unbelievably competitive. So, I mean, that was our thought coming out of spring training, and I'm sure that's pretty much every other team's thought coming out of spring training.
24:25I feel like they wouldn't put the team on the field if they didn't try their best.
24:29Pat McAfee:Yeah, especially the Cardinals organization, so legendary. But it does feel like there's a lot of disrespect to a lot of teams. Oh, yeah. It's like, well, the Dodgers are going to go. And it's like, well, who else? They're like, well, I don't know. It's like, well, I just watched 20. Don't sleep on the cards, man. Yeah, amen. Well, the Pirates are about to get that ass. But I just watched a 24-year-old guy slap a home run, and they're telling me he's going to have 30 steals as well. It's like, yeah, they're not. It's like, well, Dodgers, though. It's like, okay. And I would like to get, like, I'm thankful for you sharing your opinion on us because that is how everybody talks about MLB from the outside.
24:59Pat McAfee:I'm happy to hear that. It's like, nah, we're going. Pirates, too, last game. Yeah, we're competitive. Yeah, everybody. The season's so long. Absolutely. I don't know how you guys. Like, for you, for the Home Run Derby, did you change your swing? Like, are you worried about the swing? Because isn't that always the conversation for people that do the Home Run Derby? Like, are you changing your swing there? Do you think that affects you going down the road? How do you kind of deal with that afterwards? Yeah, honestly, I didn't want to think about it too much. I wouldn't say changing my swing. I'd just say I'm trying to catch the ball a little bit more out front.
25:29You know, during the season, I'm usually trying to go center field, you know, the big part of the field. But home run derby, you've got to hit home runs. So maybe just catch the ball a little bit more out front and don't change too much.
25:37Pat McAfee:20 swings. What was the – was there a, hey, let's just make sure we get a good pitch or when I get in a groove, I'm going to go? Because obviously we saw you do this one here. You must have felt good. How much are you thinking about that? Yeah, I mean, I want to get a good pitch. That's the main thing. But honestly, just try not to get tired. That's when I get killed. I mean, I started, you know, I think I hit three, like, grounders or line drivers in a row. I got killed. I was tired, man. So I had to slow that down, and that was really the goal. I wish you would have called ABS on your guy. Yeah.
26:07KT was money yesterday. KT was money. He was our guy, yeah.
26:10Pat McAfee:Yeah, huge deal to be the pitcher that wins. You have to perform. I mean, you really have to perform. Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, Jordan, we were – you obviously stole the show last night. We were down on the field, and I didn't see the broadcast, but I saw afterwards. Like, your parents kind of stole the show on the broadcast. They kept, you know, panning to them after you'd hit a homer, and they were going nuts with everyone. How special was it? Because I feel like that probably isn't that common where someone gets to win the derby and their parents are there in the crowd watching them be able to do that.
26:38Like, how special was that to have your family there for such a massive night? I mean, really special. But, you know, I'm used to them being there for me. They come out whenever they can. You know, my mom's a high school teacher, so it's tough for her to come out. But, I mean, and she does. She shows out. My grandma shows out. My dad obviously shows out. And I love having them, you know, with me every step of the way. So it was real special. I could share that moment with them.
27:03Pat McAfee:Backwards hat. Ken Griffey walk over with his camera. Yeah, right. Did he come over and say, hey, pretty good. Better fucking win this thing. The standard was high with him. Absolutely. You look cool, though. I mean, the backwards hat looks awful. Do you have chains on, too? Do we have chains on? Oh, yeah. A bunch of them. Gifts from my family, friends, everything like that. So, you know, I had to wear it with me. Do you wear it during games, too? You got chains on during the game or no? Oh, yeah, yeah. It's kind of my way of keeping them with me while I play. All right, we'll send you over some fake jewelry.
27:35Pat McAfee:I'll wear it. Con, actually, you're a millionaire now just strictly off of one night. So, it's going to have to be something nice. Go ahead, Con, man. Yeah, Jordan, I also do believe, you know, especially with how you hit those home runs to left field, you'd look great in a Boston Red Sox uniform. So let's keep that in mind. Let's just keep that in mind. You have to comment on it. Just keep that in mind. But aside from that, growing up, you said you slept with a bat and glove, you know, loved baseball. Did you play any other sports? Because, I mean, the guys told me when you walked out to, you know, in and out of the dugout, you know, staying hot, they were like, this guy's the biggest dude we've ever seen in our life.
28:10Giant. Yeah. Did any NFL or, sorry, football or, you know, basketball coaches tell you, Soccer. Yeah, soccer. Hey, probably not soccer, but hey, forget baseball. I did play soccer when I was real little, but it was mainly baseball, basketball. My high school coach, football coach, trying to get me on the team for the longest time. I was a little caught up with baseball and basketball at the time. But yeah, if I wasn't a baseball player, I'd for sure try to be a hooper.
28:36Pat McAfee:You still got a shot or no? Nah, it's a little broke right now, but we'll get in the lab soon. We'll get it right. Actually, I don't think you need to touch your basketball ever, brother. I feel like you're figuring it out. Right now, congratulations on last night. MLB has got to be very thankful for your performance last night. Baseball, obviously, in the same. And the only person I hated was Schwarbo, probably. Yeah, yeah. There was a lot of Phillies there. Hell yeah. No, but I think even Philadelphia respect that. You walked into their house and do that. You saw some of the fans in the back.
29:05Yeah, this guy.
29:07Pat McAfee:And I would assume that some of the Johns, just like us, that's one of the coldest things I've seen. Oh, yeah. Touch. Actually, because that stadium is known to be what? Ridiculous. They're Philadelphia fans. Schwarbo is who they all wanted to win. Yeah. Right? Schwarbomb. We need Schwarbo. Last year he gets in the hit off, which almost happened again. And he had a great round going into it. 11 of 15. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, so it was like you stepping into that batter's box with all of that, locking in and being able to handle your business, special, brother. I think you got it all right. I appreciate it, man.
29:40Thank you for joining us.
29:42Pat McAfee:Enjoy yourself over there. Appreciate it. I will. You know I will. I'll see y 'all. You're the man. Ladies and gentlemen, Jordan Walker. Yeah, Jordan. July 13th, 2025, Jordan Walker played his final game of rehab assignment for AA Springfield Cardinals. Had a.526, or.46, you get it. July 13th, 2026, Jordan Walker won home run derby. It's a cap first half with 22 home runs, 74 RBIs, and an 8.87. What is that? That's on base plus slugging. So, yeah, he was a first-round pick, like a cornerstone of what the Cardinals want to do. And he wasn't great last year. And he is just – this year he has been so – I mean, he made himself.
30:22Last night obviously was a big part of it, but his whole first half of the season, like he's going to make himself a lot of money with the way he's played this year.
30:28Pat McAfee:Everybody was happy for him. Yes. Like every all-star, not just the Cardinals people. It was like obviously everybody appreciated Schwarbo putting on the show for the people. Everybody loves Schwarbo. I don't think there's anybody that doesn't like Schwarbo either. But it was like watching a 24-year-old in that moment showing up. And even the first round. Yeah. Like, holy shit. It was easy off the bat early. Yeah. No doubters. Even the host, I can't remember his name, but he said that like after his first home run, Jordan Walker's first home run of the first round, he was like, oh, that was easy.
30:55That looked really easy is what he kind of said over the stadium.
30:57Pat McAfee:Huge, man. Yeah. Massive. So on the way out, fist bumped him. I mean, it was like a fist bump at the table. That iPad? Yeah. Probably about 6 '6". Should have played quarterback. How was Moon Ataka done? We didn't get a chance to talk to Moon, shot Ataka, more commie. I don't think he was necessarily as happy. We were on the other side. We were on the NL side, yeah. He signed with Jordan. After our show. Yeah. Very cool. Big deal. Quades are sweet. Probably because of the show. I would assume so. Yeah. That was good. That's MJ's favorite. What a pull. What a pull. I think he wrote it. MJ, White Sox fan, right?
31:32Yeah. Played for him. Played for him, yeah.
31:35Pat McAfee:So. Probably. This is the most electric human we've seen in a White Sox uniform. Sign him. Let's go ahead and put some Jays on his feet. Great hair. On his hand. He was – dude, the baseball people, and I think it's because they live on the road. Yeah. Yeah. And it's a very humbling sport, you know, because you're going to fail a lot. They were all so cool. I mean, all of them. You name it. Logan Webb came over and said what's – I mean, at one point we had, what, The five best pitchers on earth just sitting around us drinking waters. Yeah. Right. Pretty heavily. And then Dom, big Dom comes over.
32:11Pat McAfee:You guys need chicken cutlets? He keeps moving. We were treated way too nicely. But all the baseball players also treated us far too kind. Thank you so much to MLB for all of that, honestly. And Jordan Walker, everybody loved the show he put on last night. Yeah. And if you can get to a home run derby, I would say you should do it. Like all the people that were, you know, people are going to complain about everything. I, when we got out of there, I was expecting to go to the phone and see everybody say, this sucks or, oh, no. Oh, other way around. I thought they were going to say, this was it. They fixed it.
32:44Pat McAfee:They figured out what the home run derby is. Good for them. The 20 swings, the guys, what an electric night of sport. And then I get on there and it's like, yeah, don't show the ball hitting the bat ever. You know, like there's a lot of like technical things. I think watching that people are like, what are you doing? But obviously Netflix, first time doing all these things. We'll assume they'll only continue to get better. But it did feel like everybody enjoyed what it was. And I think it's only going to get better going forward as we go ahead here. I agree. And we talked about it leading up before it started on the show yesterday.
33:16The field was great. And the hope was that, hey, hopefully these guys just put on a great show tonight. And they did. But that is also one of those things where now after having been there two years in a row, like it is a live event. Like I understand it a lot more. I obviously watched it all the time growing up, but it's just it's much different when you are there live. It's it's impossible not to have a good time. Almost every guy put on a show. Like even like Jack Cagliari, I think he hit like eight, but he put one almost out of the stadium on the third deck. Like everyone put on a show.
33:46Pat McAfee:Were you on TV last night? I was on TV. What? Made TV. Wow. Yeah. Right here, I believe. Right here. Right after this one. The second one he hits. Tone and the boys are up there in the surf side. Yeah, I was drinking tall boy surf sets. I'll tell you, yesterday there was a pause right there, Foxy. So down on the lower right corner, that's the other Contreras. Yeah. Yes. Okay. They're from Venezuela. They're dogs. Okay. They, World Baseball Classic, eyeballed me. Okay. It immediately started tripping me before World Baseball Classic even starts. So then Ponche starts and it starts going how it's going.
34:22Pat McAfee:Contreras brothers from dugout looking at me in crowd talking shit. So this is my first time getting to see them in real life. They are an incredible – I mean, the baseball culture. It's the best. The lads are awesome. Walk up to him, first time seeing him and meeting him in real life, and he just immediately starts going Ponche in my face. Yeah, dude. That is exactly it. Then his brother hits another dong. This guy hit absolute – go ahead and play, Foxy. Hits absolute monsters. This one hits a guy in the face, and Gumpy and Diggs are standing right behind the guy. and... Pause. Pause. Right there, Gumpy with the white hat.
34:57Pat McAfee:White hat. Keep playing. Keep playing it. Oh, okay. I turned around. I said, that guy just got hit in the head. Oh, he missed it. That guy's face said, is Tang Diggs on the screen? And that was the home run that cashed the over for 4-8, 4-1-1-1. Yeah, 4-90. Is that what you were pointing at? No, I said that bald guy just got hit right in the head with that bald. And I do believe Gumpy got that on camera. The guy get hit in the face. Didn't want to post it strictly because the guy did get hit directly in the face. I don't think the Geico gloves gave anybody any problems. No, they actually worked out there.
35:26What? That's good.
35:26Pat McAfee:I'm happy to hear that. Geico's got it figured out, dude. Is that mayhem? I believe so. Good question. Is that progressive? No, it's not progressive. That's flow. I think it is Geico. Geico's the gecko. He's got it. Is it Allstate? And the caveman, right? They were the caveman. Allstate? Is it Allstate? Allstate's mayhem. Hey, insurance, we appreciate you guys doing this, driver. That's right. Shout out. We got it. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is the man who knows everybody in this city. He'll just go there. Okay. You should mute that while you take that off your head right now.
36:05Yeah. You got it? Okay. Yeah. Okay. Yep.
36:12Smooth.
36:13Pat McAfee:That was great. I thought you did a great job right there. You're pressing the mute. Yeah, okay. Is there a party going on behind us? Yes. It's the lounge. That's what we're talking about. Ladies and gentlemen, joining us now is a man who always brings the party. He's an Emmy Award winner, an absolute stallion, mayor of New York, and I believe, I'm not breaking the news, there's big news coming out of this guy's life soon. Ladies and gentlemen, Peter Schrager. Hey, Schrager, baby. Peter Schrager. Peter Schrager. Hello, Dr. Oh, Dr. Oh. Schrager at the ESPY party. The no boys. No boys, hey. Tom Brady gave them this.
36:44Wow. Tom Brady, Todd, can you hit the. Hit the white party? Thank you. Oh, was it? Probably.
36:50Pat McAfee:You got to get the wire out from underneath the microphone. Yeah, right here. This one right here. It needs to go underneath your microphone. Let's go like this. Yep. There we go. That's how you adjust. Still muted? Ladies and gentlemen, Pierce Schreger. Schreger, how you doing, pal? I'm doing amazing. I am so happy to be with you guys. Cool part of the summer. You guys brought it yesterday, brought it last night. I want all your stories from the wedding. I want all your stories from the golf. I mean, I am just a sponge for all of it. I miss you guys. It's so good to be here. Okay, we miss you too.
37:29Pat McAfee:We appreciate you stopping by over here. Obviously, come to New York City, got to hit you up. That's how everybody feels that comes to this city. We certainly feel that way. ESPY's here celebrating sport is a special thing. Let's dive into some football stuff. Schefter said it feels like Aaron Donald's probably playing football this year. That is awesome for all of us. Yeah, that's certainly awesome for the Rams. You obviously flying coach into the Rams facility. What is their conversation around it? Because whenever we talk to Snead, Snead told me, he was like, hey, why don't you start texting Aaron?
37:56Pat McAfee:Like, yeah, time to come back, time to come back. Feels like they are definitely in the Aaron Donald business, but they don't want to be too over. Like, how do you think they're kind of handling it? Great way to put it. I think it starts with the player. And, Pat, you would know him better than I do. but Aaron Donald is not going to come back as some 30 cent on the dollar version of Aaron Donald. He wants to be ready. That's why that workout was going on. He wants to be fully where he was when he retired two years ago. He wants to be the best version of himself. When I tell you, they haven't even discussed money yet.
38:26So that's the secondary part of this. The first part is, does Aaron Donald want to come back? Is he prepared to come back? Is he ready to come back? The Rams would welcome him with open arms, obviously, if the numbers worked out. But this is not going to be one of those deals where it's like week two, week three, week four. No, no, no. He wants to go the full season if he comes back, and he wants to be at his best version of himself. So that's why these workouts are happening. I think he's figuring it out himself. Training camp starts in a week. I would imagine we would have more information by then.
38:54Pat McAfee:Okay. So if he comes back, I mean, I saw words floating, and people in Pittsburgh aren't going to love this, but like Steel Curtain. You're talking like absolutely iconic defense potentially. Now, you said the money hasn't been figured out, but Aaron Donald, I don't want to talk for Aaron Donald or negotiate for Aaron Donald, but it feels like that's probably an easy thing to figure out at this stage. Two years removed. This would be considered bonus money, but he's still Aaron Donald, so you have to pay him. I think there is a number that they can both easily get to with incentives based. Schefter said yesterday, and I disagreed with him on this, but he has more information than I do.
39:27Pat McAfee:He said, this is a shut up for Aaron. He only had to play 10 to 15 snaps. I don't think that's what Aaron Donald would ever want to do. I don't think that's what he would want to do. So I don't know if Schefter's just thinking like, hey, this is like an easier game plan for Aaron Donald. But you just mentioned it there. He wants to be back as Aaron Donald. Especially if he gets a chance to play alongside. Yeah. Like what they're able to do is – I think Aaron understands and Miles probably understands and everybody in L.A. understands like, hey, Super Bowl's here. We have a chance to do something that is like legendary and historic.
39:57Pat McAfee:Now, obviously, they have to go out on the field to prove it. But that roster all of a sudden becomes the Avengers if this actually happens. and it's a mature group too. It's like a group that wants to win. So it's an interesting dynamic. It's a mix of guys who have one and haven't. Remember, Devontae Adams has been to five NFC Championship games, has never played in a Super Bowl. Like, do we get one for Devontae this year? You know, you go through these different veterans on the lineup and, okay, we now all of a sudden have Trent McDuffie who's got Super Bowl rings and that experience. We, of course, have Matthew Stafford and we have all these other guys who are from the original team that won it four or five years ago.
40:29But I wouldn't say the snap count. I don't think Adams is that far off. I would think more than that. I would think you get him 20, 25, whatever it is, if he comes back.
40:38Pat McAfee:I mean, he will decide that. Maybe early on. Maybe early in the season, Shrek. Yeah, I think he's doing – You want to play. And he's in the middle, too. Like, that is – on the outside, you can rotate guys. I think it's a lot easier to rotate guys on the outside. He plays in the middle. I don't know if it's just – How many snaps per side normally? Is it like 50? What do you – Oh, offensive tackle? 60, yeah, between 55 and 70 maybe a game. Yeah, I think he's 30 plus. He's got to be playing 35 plus. To be in rhythm, to play. You want to be out there. 18-week season, you build towards that, right?
41:08Yeah, he could. He hasn't played it to you. I don't think so. Australia. I think completely opposite.
41:13Pat McAfee:I think Aaron Donald is coming. You think out of the gate, 60 snaps. Let's go. If he goes to camp, yeah, I think he's playing. If he's doing his workout now, this is to see if he's ready for camp, I think. That's what it is. He wants to make sure he's his best version. He doesn't want to come back, and I don't want to name an athlete that came back in a different jersey or whatever. You can't, though. Michael Jordan. Whatever. If you want to say Jordan as the Wizards, who I think maybe we revision his history, not so terrible the first year with the Wizards, all-star, whatever it is. He'll average like 20 points.
41:38I think he dropped 50 too, right? Yeah. But he doesn't want to be a lesser version of himself. He's too good of a competitor. He's already won all the awards and has the Super Bowl ring. So he doesn't need to do this just to do it. He wants to be the most dominant defensive tackle in the league, and there's a chance he can be if he's in shape. And all those workout videos are different than playing shape, as you know.
41:55Pat McAfee:Okay, so five of the last nine defensive player of the year would be on that roster. Here's an issue, though, with the money. I'll say this. You know, when they brought in Miles Garrett and they restructured his deal and they obviously have all these other pieces, the Jalen Watsons, the Trent McDuffies, there are a couple young guys on that team. And whether it be Kobe Turner or whether it be Puka Nakua, these guys, they're waiting their turn for their payday. And I don't think Aaron Donald is going to be the one to say, you know what? I don't want to say – I need$40 million for the year. I don't think it's going to be that.
42:28It's an incentive-based. It would be incentives-based and it would also be, I'm not ruining it for those young guys. They're next in line. I get it, but I need something.
42:35Pat McAfee:And we would like to clearly say this is not coming from Aaron Donald that we are saying this. Fair. We are just assuming. And Aaron Donald's agents have been some of the most savvy negotiators over the years. Remember, holdouts year after year and then getting his money and then surpassing expectations and then getting more. So I don't think it's necessarily going to be one of these where it's, you know, one year, three million. I'm just happy to be here. No, no, he's going to get paid something, and there's going to be incentives, I'm sure. Shregs, would you be shocked if Aaron Donald doesn't play this year for the Rams?
43:02Shafter kind of said that. Yeah. Shocked is a bit extreme. I would say the Rams. Is it Dan Patrick? That is a Dan Patrick.
43:10Pat McAfee:You're right. That is a Dan. Thank you for doing that. Thank you for doing that. Thank you. I would be surprised if we don't see Aaron Donald as an L.A. Ram, but that doesn't come from Donald's side. That's because the Rams are so – they're like, yes, of course. You're boys with the head coach and everybody else. That's where it comes from. That's it. They love him. And they love him as a player and a person, and they would love this in the chapter with that. So I don't know. It'd be on his decision. D-Bot has a question for you, Shrey. Yeah, Shrey, I know you've been to the SB. Is this a Darren Patrick question?
43:38No, this is a D-Bot question. I'm staying my way. Thanks, Mark. This is softball. Boom. You've been to the SB a ton of times. Tell me about a great SB story. Whoa. Never have been to the SB. What? What? On purpose? Long-time Fox employee, long-time NFL network employee. ESPN wouldn't even know me if back in the day I walked into that red carpet. I got invited. I'm going to go. I can't wait. I'm excited. What are you looking forward to? Who are you most looking forward to? My favorite ESPN moment was the Norm MacDonald monologue from many years ago where he actually blistered everybody in the crowd, and it was an absolute roast.
44:11And it's been 20 years. Marcelo from Saturday Night Live, funny guy. I am curious to see what kind of jokes we get. I always like the monologue. I loved Pat McAfee's monologue a couple years ago. I thought that was good. Thank you. I appreciate that. That took some shots. I like that. There was one.
44:26Pat McAfee:The boys know that there was a closer that got left in the chamber. Was there one? Was there a cutting room floor? Who was it about? First time in sports as a whole. First time in my life. You didn't say something. I kept one in the chamber. Can I get the – it was 2021? When was it? It was 2020? It was during the writer's strike. I don't remember. Okay. Can I get the subject? No. No, you cannot. It was good, though. It was good. There was a reason. I thought you danced the line yesterday talking about that wedding. I didn't sign an NDA. I wasn't invited. I can sing like a canary. I have no details.
44:59Pat McAfee:You were great. You didn't say anything. I didn't sign an NDA either. But I think I did agree to something. So I had to go back and look. And to be clear. You were great yesterday. You walked that line. You didn't say a word. If they give me a cease and desist, that would be so gangster. From my understanding, from what I learned at that wedding, that is a gangster group over there. And they are so good. I watched that documentary on Taylor. Okay, my wife had me watch it. I've seen it. She is a workhorse. She is a genius. She has, like, no attention left, no detail left unattended by her. Like, I have massive respect for the way she goes about doing what she does.
45:38Pat McAfee:Okay? She's obviously got into some political stuff because she's the biggest star on earth, and that's certainly something I think she has felt called to do. So people are going to hate her for that. That was a part of the documentary, the behind the scenes of her deciding to do a political thing. And she understood the ramifications of it. And people are going to hold that against her. But she's a special talent. But the team around her also is like. Oh, that's an apparatus. Can I ask a couple questions? And feel free to say nothing. Who won the dance floor? Who was like the person? You said Mahomes on the dance floor.
46:07Was there anyone? I don't think this is spilling it. You can also say nothing. I'm just fascinated. I love a wedding. I love a party. I would like to know. Who maybe surprised you?
46:14Pat McAfee:I would say the Kansas City Chiefs football team was on the dance floor. It felt like a decision was made by the Chiefs locker room. That was like, hey, we're going to be on the dance floor. And I don't know if that was like Travis being like, hey, let's. I need you guys here. Let's let people know. Andy Reid was not on the dance floor when I saw him, but he was looking at the dance floor. I just pitched him for him. He's spinning his head. Everybody had. Now, here's a little inside detail. See, now we go. Let's open the book. Nobody will really believe this. My tux. Yeah. Amazon. No! I believe it.
46:51Pat McAfee:Day up? Week before? Six days got in. Was there a trial? Amazon, yeah. There was a... Did you go to a tailor? What are you doing, man? It looks good. Thank you. So I got a new update. So they were rolling out updates on this wedding. Okay. Like everybody on the internet was saying it's going to be at Madison Square Garden. Yeah. I was not told that. I thought it was a big rude. You didn't say that. I thought that was a lie because they were sending emails. And then, like, I might have been the last person to respond, to be honest, because I thought I was getting scammed. So random number text me.
47:27Mark as known.
47:29Pat McAfee:Random number text me and says, like, hey, we are so pumped to tell you that we have some details for the events you're going to and then a link. And I'm like, yeah, right. I just got done with a McAfee deal. And they're like, this is the easiest way to scam. So I delete the message. I delete the message. I don't even... Don't even respond. Don't even think about it. I just delete it. Like, my number must have got into another thing. Sweet. We move. Week later, another text comes through. Same situation. And you're thinking Ponzi scheme. Scammer. I think I'm getting phished. I think I'm hitting that thing because there's no reason what they were saying in that text message, I should be getting that.
48:05Pat McAfee:I thought to myself, delete it again. Delete it again. I think I even told the boys. I'm like, they're trying to get me with like a... I was with you right before the day before the wedding. I thought I was getting it. I was asking him questions about where it's at. And he's like, you know what? I should probably click this link. But the link is so horrifying. No, so that's later link. Please. I was already in. The first, I think I might have been the last person to respond. Actually, Travis had to text me and say like, hey. You coming? This is a real text. I'm like, what an honor. That's what I said.
48:35Pat McAfee:And thank you so much, dude. I did not think that was going to happen. I missed the deadline. So then I clicked the thing. And clearly, yeah. Is it like a paperless post? No, yeah, it was awesome. And it had my name across it all. Also, if you screenshot it, obviously, it was like everything was so well done. And remember, Taylor's like the queen of Easter eggs, you know, and like the entire thing. So once I got in there, I was like really excited. I'm like, okay, now I'm a part of Taylor's game here. Now we're like in this thing. But they weren't giving away any information. I pictured you like true detective with like the board and all the different things.
49:05Pat McAfee:So they gave the date. I never told. I would like that to be on the record. I never said a word about the date, even to the guys, because I thought maybe my phone was mic'd up. I did not know. Like after hitting that thing, I did not say anything. But I did not know where it was until like day before they send a thing. They're like, hey, this is it. This is the time. This is when you do it. It was like, okay, so that is what it is. And I even kept it shut down. How did you handle no phones? Was it liberating in a little bit of a way? Yeah, it was incredible. For me, we did Augusta this year. So that was, and it sounds so stupid for me to say.
49:39Precursive?
49:39Pat McAfee:I was at the Masters. No, it doesn't. But that's the only other place that I've ever heard. A Chappelle concert. I almost left the Masters. Foxy will tell you. Foxy, push came to shove the morning. They're like, all right, put your phone in your room, and then you'll get in a Sprinter van, and then I'll drive you in there. And I put my phone in my room at Augusta, and I walked out, and I turned back. I was like, I got to get one last check. Let me see what's going on here. And then I walked out into, like, the living room area we're staying in, and I'm like, I'm not going. I'm not going. I'm going to sit on my phone instead.
50:12Pat McAfee:I'm happy. I'm going to stay here. I'm going to stay here. I'm staying right here. And it was like a real moment. Like, are you that connected to your phone? Yeah. And I was like, yeah, I am. And then I put it down. And then we got into a Sprinter van that had blacked out windows. Do you remember that, Foxy? Oh, yeah, 100%. I thought I was getting kidnapped. That was the most genuine anxiety I've ever seen you have in the years I've been with you. I'm thinking this is a dream come true for me. I'm going to the Masters for the first time ever. I might only be there for five minutes. We'll turn around and get Pat's phone.
50:40Pat McAfee:Yes, exactly. But we had a great time. It was awesome. I am very much not very prepared for a lot of things. I would just like to enjoy the thing that we're at. Yeah. Like, come on Derby last night. If you watched our stream, we had no idea how to get there. We had no idea where we were standing, but we're just going to enjoy this thing. I like to go into things like that. I know there's a lot of people that like to have all the information. I like to just kind of fucking live. Like, let's just enjoy this thing. Have to have my phone, though. This is my life. Yeah. Like, literally, my job. I have to know what's going on, basically, and everything.
51:06Pat McAfee:So, I think that, with how much fun I had at that, was like a good... Yeah, going into that. And then when you walk in there, and it's like, Brett Veach is one of the first people to talk to me. And he's like, I'm so happy you're here. I'm like, me too, dude. Good to see you. And then you got, you know, just the. You mentioned yesterday, I'm not giving anything. You mentioned a Brad Pitt interaction that he bought you a drink. No, I didn't buy it. Drinks are free, by the way. Come on. Hey, no move. I'm revealing myself a little bit. We're eating friends from Jersey. Yeah, but that's fine. But anyways, it was awesome.
51:40Pat McAfee:Just know it was awesome. It was spectacular. Was there a person of that caliber, besides Brad Pitt, maybe, that you had a really deep, impactful conversation? Yeah, Blocky stole the show, actually. Where afterwards, Pat. You said you did the worm on the dance floor. You left that. Blocky, yeah. Blocky was not. I did hear this. I did talk to Dean Blandino. Duh. I got to see Dean Blandino. Dean went viral afterwards. Yeah, he did. Started eyes. I was very happy that they were there because I thought me and my wife were certainly going to be the ones that were like, why are these two here when everybody else isn't?
52:08But from my understanding, from the conversations that I had, I think they felt there were like groups.
52:16Pat McAfee:And like if there was direct in groups, but they probably weren't going to invite them. Like they just wanted to make like easy on the people that were invited. Like, hey, we'll invite your entire. Burkhart, Brady, Aaron, Dean. Yeah, boom. And then like there's the Monday night countdown crew. They're like, it felt like everybody had a group. Jason, Ryan, all those guys were like. everybody had a group except for me and my wife so that is so we got a chance to like bounce around and like see everybody i have to think though knowing how like bradley cooper gravitated towards you and all that like there had to be a cool moment for you to have these people acknowledge you and that they are watching the show and that they are yeah i mean that's why i think i thought it was the greatest yeah chris rock knew my name sandman goes oh mcafee i watch it it's like Yeah, it was awesome.
53:04Pat McAfee:I would just like to go on the record yet again and say it was. And did your wife have a blast? Yeah, we had an absolute blast. I thought you guys were waiting in lines the whole time. That's what I read. Foxy. Eating buffet food. What's that all about? Eating buffet food. It was Nobu. It was fucking Nobu. Yeah, we did. We did stand behind two people and waiting to get Nobu. It was Paul McCartney. You guys have good raffle tickets or something. I want to hold your hand. First time since 1960. I saw that. I didn't know that stat. I didn't know that in real time. I was singing it. I was singing it.
53:35Pat McAfee:Good stat, right? Like, Paul, hell yeah, dude, we're here. Hembo was on that one. First time since 64. Boom. I guess yesterday, me saying that Avril Lavigne played Skater Boy was the first time that it came out. It hadn't been revealed. Yeah, but she was awesome. And to be clear, those musicians, really cool. Like, one would just call out the other. Get on up. And then they would come up, and then they would just do their shit. Yeah. And it was like, some of them I didn't know their songs. Like, Ice Spice was there. Obviously, she's very tight with Taylor. I didn't know her song. I didn't know it.
54:07Pat McAfee:But I would say she pulled out a lot of energy up there. How about New York City this summer? Knicks, Taylor Swift wedding. How about the Jay-Z concert over the weekend? Three of them, right? Three or four of them? LeBron's there. LeBron was there. You heard it was a nightmare? Yeah, they said, like, last night at Yankee Stadium, people were just, like, standing in there waiting. Didn't go on until late. Yeah, but I heard Jay-Z came out and said he wanted everybody to make sure they were safe getting in. Then he brought out Rihanna and Beyonce together. Was Jeezy in her? Jeezy came. He canceled his show in Vegas.
54:38Flew out. Did they do? Rihanna, who, you know. Eminem. Hard to get a billionaire on stage. Eminem. Nas performed with Jay-Z, which was major in New York.
54:47Pat McAfee:God, look at you doing it in New York, bro. New York's really doing it. And then for the ESPYs, obviously, we hope that this is a good show celebrating sports and not what it sometimes is. Sure, sure. And we're right in the belly of the beast here. and I hope they do hear me. Let's make sure we're celebrating sports here. That's the purpose of the ESPYs. As opposed to what? Just shit. That was a Dan Patrick question, AJ. I'm genuinely kind of curious, though. You know what I'm talking about, so I don't need you to ask for further details. You know what I'm talking about. And then the World Cup Finals Monday, or Sunday here.
55:17Pat McAfee:Yeah. It's not going to be America. We've got a big game today, Shrags. Are you going to watch the game with us? Are you going to work today, or what are you doing? I'm going to be watching. France. France, Spain. We're going to some dive bar that Bruce got blacked out, drunk with the owner. Yeah, his guy's name's Shane Hall. Croft and Ale House, great spot. Don't say that. Why is he saying it? Hey, absolute buffoon. That's a decoy. That's a decoy. We're not going there. We're going to Jeff's saloon. Foxy, please show the video of him walking out of that bar again, please, just so everybody can understand what he just said is not the truth.
55:44Pat McAfee:Just missed an absolute sitter. Ladies and gentlemen, this man at 345 cannot be trusted. Yes, shirtless. At least that restaurant had an A grade. That's what I was about. Hey, to be clear, Aurene, the Irish lady who's the bartender that's either Maureen or Noreen, still don't know. Aurene, she was awesome. She might have been the best bartender I've ever seen dealing with somebody like Bruce. Oh, my God. Shirtless. Yeah. She got married over the break and then comes back here shirtless. Yeah, the 27-day wedding in Croatia. Yeah, I saw the pics. Comes over here. Unbelievable. Does it again. She poured him a water and just like slid it to him.
56:22Pat McAfee:She knew? Yeah. That place was awesome. I don't know the name of that place, but I assume we will be there again. It's way too close to where we are staying. But we've had a blast. We got 30 seconds before the heart out here. Anything we need to know about the football world that you know in your brain that we've not asked you about? Any Dan Patrick questions we should have asked? No. Seahawks' new ownership I think is pretty interesting. They sold that team. So you're going to have a minority owner from the 49ers who takes over the Seahawks who's multi-billionaire. Obviously, that's a storyline.
56:50and then we get into this season and it's just anybody's game after last year with the Patriots and Seahawks. I cannot wait.
56:55Pat McAfee:You're the man. We hope you'll hang out with us. We'll be back on the other side. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice. It might change their life. Take three.

58:19Pat McAfee:So why'd you say minus the jack? That's a completely different point. Minus the diet, obviously, guys. It's been a while. I've been off the air for two weeks now. Sorry. That's the problem. Foxy. Foxy. This is normally Foxy's issue. Foxy. Foxy, you back there? Normally, Foxy comes back after the two-week break, and he doesn't know how to work his fingers. Normally, he is just ass. I don't know how to order a drink anymore. You're right. I told Pat that is not true. I'm like Conor McGregor. I'm always fight red. Whoa. We just saw what happened. He did say that. He did say that. The day after Conor McGregor did the whole thing that happened just the other day, I go, Foxy, why don't we get a little work on maybe the board before we go back live?
58:57Pat McAfee:Because every time we do a two-week break, you come back and you're ass. And he goes, I'm not ass. I'm Conor McGregor. Two punches like that. Yes, he did. I'm like, okay. Thank you, Conman. That's very kind of you. Have Conman deliver a couple of those to the truck. I heard it. I was late. A little bit late. Okay. We appreciate you. Thank you, brother. Hey, to the ESPYs. To the – well, wait. We should wait. to the ESPYs. Tony getting this guy to pull bottles out from the back. First drink of the day is obviously served to us here at the ESPY's Lounge. This is where all the superstars that you see at the ESPY's check-in.
59:31Pat McAfee:They get a Hummer for free from these people right over here. Sign up right over here. You get a free Hummer. The car, not the other thing I know Hawk's thinking about. No, I think you also, hey, there's a chance you can get in there. Isn't that true? You come right over. Yeah, it is electric. Give it away. Give it away. Give it away. It's a fully immersive experience. I believe they call it the 5 ,000. The something, something 5 ,000. But, yeah, they got access to it. Come over here, get some deodorant. Get some body lotion, some body spray from W. Shout out to Jake Paul, by the way. Obviously, numerous businesses he's going.
1:00:07We had kind of becoming a thing.
1:00:09Pat McAfee:We had no idea what this was going to look like. We had no idea where we were. Obviously, shout out to Foss getting us on. The ESPN people that set this entire thing up. We appreciate that. The guy that runs the ESPYs obviously does not work for ESPN anymore. I'm sure he was pumped to hear that we're going to be cutting the lounge into half, but we are pumped to be here and thankful to be here. This is college football national champion, Super Bowl champion, Ryder Cup winner, A.J. Hawk. A.J. Hawk. Hawk. Come on. Hey. A.J. Hawk. A.J. Hawk. A.J. Hawk. A.J. Hawk. A.J. Hawk. A.J. Hawk. You. You. You.
1:00:47You're that guy who tackled the Miz. We're viral, man. That was the Miz. Okay. Still going.
1:00:54Pat McAfee:I did get to tackle the Miz. You're right. Nine-year NFL vet, Dennis J. Butler is here. Yeah. Yeah. Butch. Butch. Butch. Butch. Butch. Butch. You. You. Ladies and gentlemen, standing to my left over here, guys locking it down. Yeah. Holding it down. You know, we walked into a little bit, a couple enemies in this room. So, you know, wouldn't want to walk into this room with anybody else. Or Kinley! Yeah! Kinley! You! That's the man right there. You! That's the man right there. Kinley just told us with his eyes to go fuck ourselves. Obviously, the toxic table is here at Boss Conner and at Ty Schmidt.
1:01:32Pat McAfee:What's up, boys? And the booze bag, Tone Diggs, is still up at the bar. I don't know if he is lost or confused. What are you getting, man? Oh, no. Foss just had to go fetch a gingy. Oh. Jeez, Tony. Tony. Foss, obviously, working as a bar back, as well as a man who has to set everything up and book people as he hops out of the way. Superstars filing in for the ESPYs. Obviously, the annual celebration of the sports world, we hope. We hope that it will continue to be that. We'll see. Celebrating sports. 34th year. Yeah, and I think there's probably really good ones in there somewhere. And then it kind of took a turn for a while.
1:02:02Pat McAfee:And then hopefully we're back to being awesome. And we are certainly pumped and thankful to be. Are you okay, Tom? No, just Schrag's in this. and Schraggs was born to be in this environment. Anytime we can cut back, I guarantee you're going to see Schraggs just bopping around looking for something. Where is he? Right there. Yeah, I appreciate him doing that. There's Fiss having a good convo. Is that Mick? He was rolling around there earlier. Who runs New York though, Bruce or Schraggs? What's that? Who runs New York? You know, Bruce is like the king of New York. Pete's the king. Bruce is the prince.
1:02:37The prince who is promised.
1:02:38Pat McAfee:I don't think Bruce would agree with that. I think Bruce might challenge that. Yeah, I think Bruce would think the other way. But Bruce also has all of Croatia now. That is true. He was speaking Croatian last night to the Irish bartender. She didn't understand a word he was saying. And once again, this was him exiting the bar last night. Bruce Brown, welcome back to New York. He's a married man now, ladies. He's a married man. And we know that his wife is certainly pumped to see that right there. Thank you, Tony. We know last night was certainly special. Bruce, thank you for coming back to the city in such a big way.
1:03:10Pat McAfee:You know, the difference between Serbian and Croatian is Serbian uses the Russian alphabet. Croatia uses our alphabet. Same language, different alphabets. I think that was him trying to sell me towards the Croatians over the Serbs because I think he's already inserted himself in a potential thousand-year war or whatever's going on. But I appreciate that he did that. I've learned a lot about Croatia. It is a place that I would certainly want to get to. 17 hours to get there. So we kind of all opted out of taking a private plane to his wedding. But we are at some point going to have to go over with the king of Croatia, Bruce Brown.
1:03:45Next year. We'll push that to next year. They look gorgeous.
1:03:48Pat McAfee:We'd like to let the people of Croatia know that Bruce Brown has come back and said terrible things about all you guys. Oh, come on. Never. Never. He loves that. He would move to Croatia. I mean, it looks amazing. Oh, yeah. Some of the stuff even that he just posted from it was, I mean, they were on a pirate ship. They're on the Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean. Unbelievable. You could see why you'd want to be there for 35 days. Without a doubt. Exactly. Yeah. We could definitely see that. I see your, ladies and gentlemen, one half of the hammer. Cowboys, eight-piece. Is AJ giving a toast to him, G-Shay?
1:04:16Oh, to the ESPYs. I'm not giving a toast, but yeah. He's doing like a, yeah.
1:04:19Pat McAfee:AJ? Boys, to the ESPYs. Boom. Celebrating sports. Boom. There's old chips. Cheers. There's blue chips. There's red chips. There's blue chips. But there's no chips. Like friendships. I don't know if you said that right. Well said, Tony. I'm thinking. Well said. Better than Bruce did. I think they're all in there. I just don't know if they were in the proper order. Here's to the breezes that blow us through the trees. Nice. I don't know if we can do that one. Cheers to the SVs. Cheers to the SVs. Thank you for letting us invade you here, obviously. Shrag's still here. I was going to say, he just found his way over to the AV stand.
1:04:54Pat McAfee:Give yourself a Hummer. Did you guys give him a Hummer? Thank you for doing that. Whoa. I can't wait to get a Hummer later. Jeez Louise. Where are you going? Always a good day to get a Hummer. I'll tell you, as a guy who has got one, I will say it's good. Hey, do you know much about the vehicle? The crab walk? Yeah, the crab walk feature. Nobody uses it. That does everything apart. When would you ever use it, though? I guess if you were stuck in a hole. If you're in a city, you would use it because you can get. Is that a parallel? Yeah, so you can move out of things. But obviously, nobody's driving a Hummer.
1:05:27Have you ever tried it, though, once? Can't you scale up the side of a mountain doing that? Yep.
1:05:32Pat McAfee:Yeah, but if it rains, it's going to rain inside. Yeah, you turn it sideways. Is there a reason why it rains inside of my Hummer? This guy don't know shit. Yeah, right. That guy's the face of Hummer. Look, it's a good way of my mind now. It's bad for a good way it looks like. I'll tell you, it's all glass roof. So you can't, like, there's nothing to, no shade? You latch. Some sort of seal that. And my seals just don't work. You need a flex seal. So if it rains, rest in peace. I have a lot of flex seals. Yeah, the guy, I think. He's not dead. What? You're thinking of Billy Mays. You're thinking of Billy Mays.
1:06:07Pat McAfee:You're thinking of OpsiClean. Yeah, Billy Mays is, he... Miss you, Billy. This guy is kind of a knockoff Billy Mays, but... He's very good. He's not. I saw him in a boat. I know. The bottom of the boat is a screen door. What I'm saying is the ceiling of these things is a screen door. Okay, so the sun gets in, the water gets in. Yeah, I would need a flex seal like that guy. But I would recommend that car. There's a Flex Seal stand, actually, back here for everyone. Shrag just stopped by, sprayed it down his throat. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, he's in a different country. But, boy, I think he's still going to be bringing it.
1:06:41Pat McAfee:The British Open's happening this week. Yes. 154th Open Championship. And it is at the Royal Birkdale. Okay. Obviously, Wimbledon, straight in the Royal Birkdale here. The only man that could give us what is actually happening, boots on the ground, is a damn good dog. Ladies and gentlemen, the most prolific writer that ESPN has. Stats say that. Mark Schlabaugh. Yeah, Mark Schlabaugh. International Schlabaugh. International Schlabaugh. All right. International Schlabaugh, we assume, will still have the same heat, but who knows. Tell me a little bit about what we need to know about the Open. And I'm going to be honest.
1:07:19Pat McAfee:We were off for two weeks. There was a lot of things we missed. I had no idea Patty the Batty was fighting in that International Fight Week card before Connor. I had no idea we had another major this close. And obviously, we're friends with John Daly. So we understand the significance of winning one of these for your career. We understand how big this is. And obviously, we appreciate this tournament. Vastly different style of golf every single year in this particular one. What should we be thinking as we look ahead to this? And we certainly knew this was going to happen. So you're telling everybody else stuff that we don't need.
1:07:47Pat McAfee:We already know. Yeah, I mean, it's hot as hell over here. It's dry. It's fast. It's firm. Even the bunkers look thirsty this week. John Rahm talked about unprecedented conditions. It's supposed to be hot until the weekend. No rain in the forecast. Rahm said it today. You could hit a six iron 280 yards, Pat. I'm not sure I could hit a driver that far these days. Why, just because it's running or because it's hot? It's running. It's hot. It's just firm. It's fast. It's brown. You know, and it's going to get firmer and firmer. I mean, it's only Tuesday. I've never seen an open course, a Lynx course, this brown.
1:08:25Scotty, she never said the ball is going to roll forever. You know, Rory called it a double-edged sword because even the rough, the lush rough and the heavy rough that's usually penal might not be so penal because it's dying as we speak.
1:08:41Pat McAfee:Okay, so the rough is dying. It's already brown. It's Tuesday. I believe you told us earlier it's going to be purple by this weekend. Wind also normally a big conversation in these. Is that still going to be a factor? Is the heat kind of killing the wind? No, no. The wind's still blowing off the Irish coast. If you're a gambling man and you want a first-round leader, maybe take a guy in the Thursday morning wave before the winds whip up. I walked the seventh hole with Harris English, damn good dog, this afternoon, and that's the most exposed par three on the course, and it was blowing hard. But, yeah, it's hot, Pat, and they don't have air conditioning here.
1:09:20And I finally figured out why the Axis powers never invaded England because there was no AC.
1:09:28Pat McAfee:They had a 200-year head start. And they can't figure it out over there still. They can't figure it out. And, I mean, the other thing, look, I'm not going to complain about coming across the pond on ESPN's dime anytime. But no AC and the food, you know, it's a struggle. The British might have conquered the world for spices. They just never brought them back. Wow. Boo for schlaba. International schlaba. Love it. More like international schlaba. Boo. Okay. All right. That's good. They still have brownie. They had to import that too. I understand. You're still boozing over there. We respect and appreciate that.
1:10:09Pat McAfee:You're a damn good dog yourself. We learned through the World Cup that the air conditioning game is a huge advance. And I would like to tell Europeans the fact that they're mentally tough enough to battle without air conditioning on a day-to-day basis might make them tougher. But certainly is a part of the smell thing that I think probably happens over there. Beautiful country. The sun never set on it. And I do appreciate the fact that you said that the people that found the good-tasting stuff just decided to never go back to England with it. But there is ranch dressing coming that way, I believe.
1:10:38Pat McAfee:Yeah, from this. I believe you got ranch on the way because of the World Cup, from my understanding, Schlabaugh. I wish they would have discovered mustard in America as well because there's not any of that over here. I wish I hadn't been able to find it. I actually, Pat, for the first time in my life, watched a World Cup game, wire to wire Saturday night. I figured when in Rome, do it. And it was exciting. And, I mean, look, an English golfer hasn't won the Open since Nick Fowler won his third Claret Jug in 1992. There hasn't been an English golfer win the Open on English soil since Tony Jacklin in 1969.
1:11:13If England can beat Argentina tomorrow night and an English golfer is in contention on Sunday, this might be the greatest sporting weekend in England's history.
1:11:26Pat McAfee:Except for what? They do horse racing over there, right? Like horse racing is big over there? Yeah. Royal Ascot. Yeah. Royal Ascot. There it is. So, Schlaba, let's make sure we're not leaving out the ass. You're kind of putting the ass in Ascot right now by leaving out the horse in this entire thing. Cricket's big too now. I remember when Brian Arman, another dog, won the Open at Royal Liverpool a couple years ago. I got into a cab on Monday, and the guy was listening to a cricket match on the radio. Two days later, Pat, I get back in a different cab, and a different cabbie is listening to the same cricket match.
1:12:00It had gone on for three days.
1:12:02Pat McAfee:Yeah, they've done, what, 14-day games or whatever. Oh, yeah, crazy. You've got to remember back in the— Probably ended in a tie, too. Soccer's starting to do that again. But we love the World Cup. We love the World Cup. Top English golfers, headline international leaderboards, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Tyrell Hatton, obvious. Tyrell Hatton. Tyrell? Tyrell. Tyrell. Depends on how he's playing. Tyrell Hatton. Tyrell when he plays well. Tyrell when he's playing bad. Yeah, Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick, English guy. First in strokes gained around the grain, which could be important.
1:12:34Second in approach. Eighth in driving accuracy, which may or may not be as important this week as we talked about the rough not being as flush. Tommy Fleet, we grew up here in Southport. Okay. Stuck onto the course as a kid. Okay. You know, his 45th start in a major, no victories. He's easily the crowd favorite. Tyrell, we talked about. Colin Morikawa is a guy. Battled a back injury. He's a former Open Championship winner. He could be sneaky good here. His short game in putting, leave a little bit to desire. Victor Hovland's found things again. And Ludwig Oberg needs to finish and play well. And look, Wyndham Clark's the best player in the world.
1:13:14He's played better than anybody else in the world the last couple months. There he is. What's this? There he is, yeah. I mean, hell, I'm talking to him. I'm going to need to ask him how to do it and how to make it work. He has two different hangers. He had the wooden one yesterday, and then he had a little flimsy red one today. So there's that one, yeah. If he really wants to flex, he pissed off all the Canadians. by showing up in the USA jersey, Canadian hockey, or U.S. hockey jersey. He needs to wear an Argentinian soccer jersey tomorrow.
1:13:45Pat McAfee:No, maybe Lou Messi because he is American. Wyndham Clark, great American. We will certainly pull for him, especially if he's just using basic-ass hangers at the driving range of a major in England where everything is so hoity-toity. I appreciate Wyndham Clark doing that. Let's talk about another American. Scotty Scheffler misses the cut for the first time in, what, 10 years or something? 78 starts. And obviously I read all the posts online about how many Tiger made in a row, like 130 or something like that straight. That thing's never going to be touched is what people say. Scotty missing the cut says what to you?
1:14:18Pat McAfee:Because the first time you came on our show, your first take was, Scotty's swing is shit right now, but he doesn't want to talk about that. And then he would go on to win and then come in second and win and come in second. And you would say his swing is still not good. He's somehow winning this. He makes a cut. Is that like a breaking point for Scotty maybe to kind of reevaluate? or do we think he bounces back? How do you think Scotty views this week after something he hasn't done in forever? Well, I mean, he hadn't won since the season opening event. He's got four runner-ups. He's got 14 top 25s and 15 starts.
1:14:50You know, his iron play has been a little bit off, but, I mean, he's still top 25 in the world. He couldn't hit fairways last week, but I've been over to North Barrick, Scotland, and if you're just a little bit off, the win's really tricky. He was asked about missing the cut. A British writer said, sorry to start with such an awful question, but, you know, what did you do last week? And he said, I worked out on Saturday. I drove over here. I played 18 holes on Sunday. Played nine on Monday and nine on Tuesday, and he's never played Royal Birkdale. So, you know, maybe it's a blessing in disguise and a mental reset and a physical reset.
1:15:26Somebody asked him about his legacy earlier today, Pat, and he said, I don't really play for a place in history. I'm not playing for anything like that. because this is going to sound a little morbid. At the end of the day, I'm going to live my life, and it's going to end.
1:15:39Pat McAfee:We're all going to die, is what he said. Yeah, he sounded more and more like my guy. I mean, he sounded good.
1:15:49Pat McAfee:Hey, Rory, he said the same thing. Scotty said something similar, not similar, last year. Like, right before he won the Open last year, he, like, gave one an answer like this, didn't he? Or am I wrong in that? Yeah, like, why am I doing this? You know, what does it all mean? I ask myself that every morning. Yeah. Let's just make. Yeah, and then you say, there's no air conditioning. Aw. I need more spices. Let's continue to talk to a guy who is abroad right now. Are you all by yourself over there? The ESPN just lie you over there by yourself? Are you like? I got a producer here. I'm a one-man show doing everything.
1:16:30God, that's. Hey. It's a dog. He's a damn good dog. Damn good dog. Come on, Schlobbaugh. Come on. Stand it home.
1:16:39Pat McAfee:Go, dogs. Hey, 62 degrees in this room right now, Schlobbaugh. That's a lot. It feels really, really good. Okay, AJ has a question for you, international Schlobbaugh. Yeah, Schlobbaugh, can you give us any international Schlobbaugh? I'm sorry. Any, I don't know, underdogs, under the radar players you're looking at that could possibly make a run? And also, what is the final score you believe that wins this season? Well, that's a good question. Jordan Spieth won it in 2017 at 12-under. I don't think we're going to get to St. Andrews 20-under because it was a lot shorter. These are a lot smaller greens, average size about 5 ,000 square feet.
1:17:14I'm thinking 14 to 16 maybe, AJ. Are guys going to be hitting drivers out there? If you can hit a 5-iron 300, do you need to hit driver? Yeah. I mean, on some of that, I think that's the – Scotty talked about this earlier today, the strategic, you know, the strategy of it. Do you just wail on it and try to avoid the fairway bunkers? You know, the deep pop bunkers, that's their biggest defense out here with mounting. It's not the big undulating fairways you see on other leagues courses, but just, I mean, knock the hell out of the driver, knock it into the rough and be 70, 80 yards out and go from there.
1:17:50So, you know, I think these Arnold Palmer one here, Jack Nick was Johnny Miller. great champions. I mean, you've got to have a complete game, so I think it's one of the top guys, but I do think the English guys have a shot. Ryan Fox is a sleeper from New Zealand. He likes tough courses. I gave him to you, I think, at the U.S. Open, and somebody bet on him, and I apologize. Yeah, that went well.
1:18:16Pat McAfee:You've never given us a winner, by the way. That question, as soon as AJ asked, I was like, that sounds like a Dan Patrick question, because that's a hard question. He's never going to get it right. That's exactly right. Do you want an update from the ESPY's lounge, or no? Yeah. Did I win an ESPY? Yeah, you did. You're up for four. I mean, actually, we don't know who wins what for what anymore at the ESPYs, but we'll be excited to watch it. Hopefully, we're celebrating sports this year like we have done in the past sometimes. Talk has made his way to the bar. Okay, just would like to let everybody know.
1:18:42He walked here from the truck to go get a drink.
1:18:44Pat McAfee:Yeah, Talk has made his way to the bar. Talk, we're proud of you, buddy. That made me toggle. Talk is actually launching a podcast soon with Ty. Oh, we'll see. We'll see. It's going to be called Talkin' Schmidt. Yep. Yeah, and they are. That's out tomorrow. That's right. And, hey, Talk, let's not be. Good cut. Talk spilled three drinks in 17 seconds last night. It was the craziest thing I've ever seen in my life. Yeah. Steph Curry walks over maybe 90 seconds afterwards. Everybody that works at this place was using wet wipes to dry up the seats because they'd cleaned everything. Talk walks over with two drinks.
1:19:19Pat McAfee:Boom. Spills them all over everything. So all the workers were like, we just made last call. We're going home. Yeah. Come out with wet wipes. Start wiping it down. He gets a beer. Okay, because there's another one. Yeah. Comes back over. Boom. Right over top of it. And he goes, I guess I got to get out of here, guys. Then Steph Curry comes over, dabs him up. Then he walks away. He goes, Steph Curry is really kind. Oh, no way. Someone follow him all the way. Get a camera to follow him. Not a chance. He needs someone to follow him with a camera. Who from the truck told him to do that? How far does he have to go?
1:19:54That's a foxy call right there.
1:19:56Pat McAfee:I'd like to point you towards a guy, actually, if you're going to do this, if that's piping hot. If we're going to spill that, let's make sure it's on the right people. All right. What is he doing? Nowhere to go. International schlaba. Let's get back to golf, please. Sorry. Let's get back to golf, please. Tone has a question for you, international schlaba. Yeah, I do. You know, it has been the greatest run for Jon Rahm in majors, but this kind of feels like a course that maybe he could excel at. is is rom or one of the live guys are they ever going to be in contention again yeah i mean we talked about hadden i think this course does suit rom he's performed well in the in the open in the past he's won three times on live and he criticized all of us for diminishing that fact um in the past in the in the past year but um he's he's played well you know the big the other big storyline can bryson dechambeau make a cut yeah he's one of three guys who's missed the cut in all three majors.
1:20:51He's got an entire set now of 3D printed irons that he'll play with this week. So that'll be fun to watch.
1:20:59Pat McAfee:You like that, huh? It sounds like that's something you do love that happens. He was just golfing with big trees. I don't know where he was. He was in... Did you see it on his Instagram? He was maybe... Redwood Forest, maybe? Ooh. That's what it looked like? That's what it looked like. Do they have a golf course in the Redwood Forest? That'd be sick. I don't think so. It should. You're not going to win shit for not having that answer there, Shawbaugh. You're not getting an SB? Hey, hey. I got a 3D printed putter that Michael Collins gave me, the caddy. Connery? ESPN caddy? Michael Collins comedy.
1:21:32I lose about six strokes around on the greens. It's awesome. Is this the first round Bryson's playing with these clubs? These 3D printed? Like the full set? If you're not counting the 472 rounds he's played on YouTube, yes. Do you watch those? No. Really? Look, I like Bryson. I think Bryson is one of the more fascinating guys out here, and he's been good to me until the last few months. Oh, what happened? Why?
1:22:01Pat McAfee:A little falling out? He doesn't want to talk. Well, that's strictly because he's in a tough spot. The way you talked about what you call it, the barely living tour, he's been pretty loud over there. International Schlauberg catching some heat over there because Liv's super international, right? Did you see the guy sued him for$600 million? Who? They stole my idea that lost$6 billion. You owe me$600 ,000 more. I didn't see this. When did this happen? I broke it a couple weeks ago, maybe last week. I was in the Bahamas when I broke it. I would have never guessed you would break some negative news about it.
1:22:35Pat McAfee:International schlawball is a real problem. Might want a Peabody out there. Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, international schlawball. Let's stray away from golf for a second here because we were actually talking last night, college football, where we want to lean. And just curious, listen, them damn good dogs, they've got a lot of returning starters. Can we get like a Georgia update? Should we be kind of maybe leaning towards Georgia to win the SEC this year and potentially win another national championship? You know, I get home from England Monday evening, and I'll be on a plane to Tampa on Tuesday for SEC media days, the start of the real season.
1:23:14And now I saw a stat this week said Georgia was the youngest roster in all the FBS or maybe power five. But yeah, it's it's it's interesting. Kirby's been signing a lot of three stars.
1:23:27Pat McAfee:Why? Because you guys can't afford it? I'm not sure what's going on. I think they're broke. No, I'm being serious when I say that, because Kirby has been very much like. What do you guys think is the right answer? I've heard him in like 100 different combos. Just be like, what do you think is right? Yeah, what do you think is right answer? I think Kirby, he's one of my favorite people in college football. Kirby has always been very good to us. Dogs fans have not, but Kirby Smart has been very good to us. I appreciate the level-mindedness of him. I think he doesn't love what everything's happening right now, not just because Georgia is potentially nowhere near alumni-wise where Penn State, Michigan, Oregon, everything like that.
1:24:04Pat McAfee:I think a lot of SEC teams are talking about that. But I think Kirby is like a college football pillar, personally, at this point. So if he's taking three stars, I think there's a reason for that. I think he is looking ahead. I think he is ahead of game. Do you view Kirby that way? Is that how everybody in Georgia views it? Yeah, I thought Kirby's strength was always signing high school talent, recruiting high school talent, and developing high school talent. And I think he does it better than anybody else out there now that Saban is retired. But I just don't think he's going to pay a four-star guard$1.5 million.
1:24:36dollars you know he's not going to pay him more than the guys that are already on his team so they've got a couple five stars i'll be curious you know he's got a bunch of guys leaving after this season i'll be curious to see if he if he goes heavier in the transfer portal but you know hopefully some of these this legislation will get passed and we'll get some guardrails in here i don't think anybody can afford it but mark at the pace it's at right now mark we were having this call the other day is gunner stockton good enough to win a national championship Yeah. He got the right people around him.
1:25:07I mean, Stetson Bennett was good enough to win a championship.
1:25:10Pat McAfee:Stetson could spin it, bro. That's why Stetson in the NFL, why he was able to just leave for a year, kind of do his own thing and come back because he can spin it. I think Stetson, the mailman, right? He could spin it. I don't know if Gunnar, from what I've seen, great athlete, damn good dog, like all those things. a tough, obviously, the first time we saw him, he gets John Elway, and then he gets back up. Does he have enough talent with this to be able to win an Addy? That's a real question, I think. I think that's a real question. Yeah, he's tough as hell. The throw he made against Tennessee in the fourth quarter I was at that game.
1:25:46Oh, in the right side of the end zone. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Back shoulder throw. He can spin it. He can spin it. They got to get back to throwing it to the tight ends. They got like 19 five-star tight ends on the roster. He's got they got to roll him out more, get the ball across the middle. That was a big problem last year. They've got a consistent running game. They had a ton of injuries on the offensive line. But I think this team, it's not as good as the 21 or 22 defense, but I think it's as close to that. They're never going to have Jalen Carter running second string. That was unheard of.
1:26:14Pat McAfee:Can you tell me about expectations for Lane and LSU? Because obviously LSU, with the amount of money they paid them, with the amount of hype, with the amount of drama to get them down there, and drama around everything that Lane does, I think is just kind of the way it is. But I think everybody at LSU is expected to win. Yeah. It's expensive roster in college football, I believe. They're expecting to win right now. He's kind of trying to temper it down a little bit. I'm headed down to Baton Rouge in a few weeks to see him. But, I mean, look, they went out and they spent a ton of money. They got the quarterback from Arizona State who's a good player.
1:26:42He's coming off an injury. I think running back's a little bit of concern with him. But they spent as much money with Brian Kelly last year and ended up fired. So you've got to get the locker room right. But he's got a couple of good defensive players from Ole Miss. I mean, I'm counting the days down when his ass goes back to Oxford. Week three.
1:27:01Pat McAfee:Can't wait for that. It's going to be so much fun. Game day is not definitely going there. Remember, only the first two weeks. That's right. We're going to be at LSU Clemson. You know, Dabo, good guy. He's done a lot for college football. Since I've been on college game day, Clemson has not been good at football. They have not been good at football. They've been good at football, but they have not been in national conversation. The convo about Dabo was always like, he won't evolve, he won't evolve. Now he is evolving, and he's a damn good football coach. We all know that about Dabo. But Clemson has been out of the story forever.
1:27:28Pat McAfee:First week, we're at Clemson-LSU down there. I think it's because we're at Lane Kiffin or whatever. Obviously, we're doing that. But it's like if they just steamroll Clemson, which is possible. Oh, yeah. Clemson has got Georgia. Didn't Georgia do that to Clemson? What was that? 31-0 or whatever. That's happened a couple times in these opening weekend showcase games. I think LSU's got both favorites. The hype that will come out of an ass beating if that is what happens down there in Baton Rouge. And then week two is what? Ohio State, Texas, and Austin game days there. And then week three is in Oxford, LSU at Ole Miss.
1:28:02Pat McAfee:And they wouldn't announce that game day is there because I guess things could go completely off the rails for both of them. LSU could lose to Clemson. They could just absolutely do it and not do it. Ole Miss opens up in Nashville against somebody good. Yeah, they got Winnidad back, right? Yeah, and Lacey. Winnidad. We saw Winnidad at the College Football National Championship concert with Flo Rida. Is that what it was? Yes. the national championship was that yeah that was the championship we saw winnidad there he was in the middle of still figuring out if he was going to be able to come back or not after watching him play in the fiesta bowl i think um i forget what city was fiesta bowl phoenix he he's an nfl guy i think i i think trinidad's an nfl guy the way he spins how tough he is i'm not saying he's a starter but i think he will get on a roster he'll get an opportunity at some point and do that so i was trying to explain to him that if he doesn't get back into college he's going to be a-okay And obviously appeals happen.
1:28:58Pat McAfee:He gets in there. It ends up taking place. He's back. He is a weapon. He is an unbelievable football player. I don't think anybody's talking about Ole Miss either. No. Nobody's talking about Ole Miss. Who's everybody talking about in the SEC? Is it Kirby this year? Texas is the favorite. Texas. Texas again. Arch. Arch. It's Texas, Georgia, Ole Miss, LSU. All right. International. Texas went out and got two really good running backs. Offensive line. And the best wide receiver at the portal as well. Cam Coleman, disgusting. He had me playing quarterback. He had me playing quarterback at Auburn, and he caught 100 balls.
1:29:32Why do they always suck? I don't know. That's the last time I needed a police escort off campus. That's all I'm going to say. They hate you, Hunter? They don't like me too much.
1:29:45Pat McAfee:They might like international schlub. Yeah, exactly. They don't like SEC schlub. All right, last question here from Con Man. Yeah, Mark, speaking of Arch in Texas, there's a big story from the Manning Passing Academy, you know, about CJ Carr, Notre Dame, him kind of stealing the show. And we talked about Notre Dame and Oregon. So kind of a Dan Patrick question. But can, you know, Notre Dame and Oregon, can they win the big one? Like, is it every year going to be, hey, this is the year, Dan Landing, that they get it done? But do you actually believe they can do it? And do you see either one of those teams in the national championship?
1:30:19Yeah, I was out in Oregon a couple months ago. I met with Dante Moore and Dan Lanning, and I talked to a couple of his assistants. I mean, they're loaded again, and I love Dante Moore. He's a great kid, great quarterback. I was at that Peach Bowl when they lost to Indiana. That was a really weird game. Will Stein, their OC, was going to Kentucky, and Tosh LaPoy, their DC, was going to Cal, and they were both recruiting, and they both looked like zombies, not taking anything away from Indiana because they jumped on them from the start. They kept pounds, kicked up, had the pick six on the first pass of the game, and then it just steamrolled.
1:30:51But Oregon's got a ton of talent. Dan's a damn good football coach. Notre Dame, that's where I grew up. I grew up a Notre Dame fan, and then I grew up. And it – Come on. Freeman's good. Freeman's good. I love everything about Notre Dame. I grew up an hour from campus. I love everything about Notre Dame. Where'd you grow up at? You're from Indiana? Culver, Indiana. Lake Maxon Cookie. I didn't know you were a – Culver Military Academy. Lake Maxon? No. Yeah, because I thought you got that at Georgia.
1:31:22Pat McAfee:Yeah, I thought you were a damn good dog. I didn't know you were a Hoosier. Congrats on winning the Natty last year. Yeah. Wow. I wasn't. I'm not a – I love the Bobby Knight. You don't have – Notre Dame football and Bobby Knight basketball. Yeah, I think we kind of get that. Yeah, we hear that the way you talk. Yeah, we hear that the way you talk. And enjoy yourself over there, brother. Maybe take in some of the European rays. You know, enjoy the heat, the sauna, also known as the bedroom. Just kind of live your life over there and let us know what all happens, brother. Almost killed a lady in a roundabout last night.
1:31:51It wasn't good. Driving on the left side of the road's hard.
1:31:54Pat McAfee:Yeah, because you've got to look the opposite direction. Opposite way. I keep thinking somebody's got a T-bone. We hope that doesn't happen. Mark. Yeah, because that has to happen at Auburn, we've learned. Yeah. Not in England. Ladies and gentlemen, international schwa ball. Yeah, more. Thanks, guys. You're the best, buddy. Ladies and gentlemen, the stars are out. Yeah. Yeah. Hi, how are you guys doing? a crowd has joined. I believe that is husband. I've seen him shirtless on the internet. He is absolutely jacked as well. Ladies and gentlemen, joining us right now is somebody who just won a record title.
1:32:29Pat McAfee:Sixth World Cup skiing title. She is nominated for the best athlete in women's sports. I like that that's a title. Yeah. Ladies and gentlemen, won slalom gold at the Olympics. The What's the Point Pod. Boom. Our favorite pod. Yep. Ladies and gentlemen, an American icon and hero, Michaela Shiver. Yeah, Michaela! Great to see you, Michaela. Thank you. AJ didn't stand up. I'm trying to give her this. Here you go. You know how to do it. Husband, good to see you. Ohio guy, kind of piece of shit. I don't want to see you shirtless, I think. I see him on the internet jacked. Yeah, take off your shirt.
1:33:08Pat McAfee:Yeah. I know, what's happening? Oh, he'll do it, too. He is. You are ridiculously jacked, bro. Obviously, you are as well, Michaela. you're the greatest skier in the history. So thank you so much for joining us. Thank you. This feels like a great event to celebrate people who are incredible at what they do. I'm happy that you get celebrated here on a very regular basis. And obviously the Olympics, we get a chance to celebrate the hell out of you. How have you been since last time we talked to you? I think you've broke more records. How is life right now? And welcome back to America. Thank you.
1:33:36Yeah, it's good to be home. I have been traveling a little bit. I was in Norway, which the vibe over there is incredible. Oh my gosh. And then coming back here has been really funny because everybody that we meet is they're like, oh, you're from – to Alex. Like, you're from Norway. Oh, my God. Holland. Yes. Yes. And we're actually Man City fans. Yeah, we're Man City fans because of Holland. He's my guy. For USA, next World Cup, actually. Yeah. He's going by Earl, right? Ed. Ooh, it's tough to imagine that. No, he's an American. Messi's playing for America, too.
1:34:06Pat McAfee:Lou. Yeah. Sorry, I'm being confirmed. So, good news. We're winning the next one. So, whoever's doing this one, good luck. We got Ed Holland and Lou Messi. Michaela, tell me a little bit about the ESPYs, honestly. And if you were to win Best Athlete in Women's Sports, I assume you've won one of these before. I've won one before. Congrats. Thank you. Yeah. Oh, no. We weren't there. Second one on the way. Second one on the way. Your people were there. They got the clap for you then. Yeah. Well, we'll see. I mean, it's an honor to be nominated. I know that sounds like diplomatic. It does. Everybody who's nominated in the category is incredible.
1:34:47Like, Hillary Knight, I root for her. I cheer for her. It's incredible. So I don't know. It's really good to be here. It's good to meet other athletes. It's good to be able to celebrate sports and the great performances that have happened this season. It'd be amazing to win again, for sure. But I feel like it's like the cherry on the cake. You know, the nomination is just great to get that recognition anyway. Yeah, acknowledgement is good.
1:35:12Pat McAfee:And we acknowledge, by the way. You do. Yeah, we acknowledge you. Yeah, we acknowledge Michaela. Thank you, guys. You're welcome. I have a daughter. AJ's got a couple. He's got a daughter. He's got a couple. Three. Daughters. Full house. Connor, in the future, will probably have a daughter. Huh? I have an orchid right now. He's doing well. Still alive. I have an orchid. Orchids are – I can't keep orchids alive. He's got a green thumb. He's got a green thumb. He also has no kids or any other real profession. Now he will be getting married soon, so life will change for him. Well, congratulations.
1:35:45Pat McAfee:Thank you. Can we talk about women's sports? We can. Because my daughter is definitely going to play sports. I will force her to be playing team sports. I have people that tell me I can't force her into that. I was like, well, I view it as school. I view it as a life lesson. A lot of options, too. She's definitely going to do sports. How do you feel? And you're one of the drivers of this. Women's sports feels like hotter than ever. Now, so much drama happening in the WNBA, but a lot of attention and money going to the WNBA. So I think, is it good? Is it not good? That's for somebody else to decide.
1:36:16Pat McAfee:No press is bad press. Agreed. But it does feel like women's sports is, right? Don't you think? I don't actually know if that's true, but yeah. Yes. I think women's sports right now, well, it's sports in general, right? Like it's the entertainment of it. And I think people are starting to give credit that women provide that entertainment in sports. And we're starting to see how exciting it really is and getting the recognition, getting these sports on television, getting to watch, getting the viewership. It's all part of that puzzle, and it's really cool to see that it is, like you said, it's like starting to really – it's getting really hot.
1:36:53Pat McAfee:Yeah, it is getting hot. I mean, WNBA is getting real hot. Too hot. Dan Patrick needs to ask his hard questions, Kathy Engelbert, ASAP. Yeah, I agree. That needs to happen ASAP for the good of all sports. but as somebody who now my daughter's three and two months now at this point becoming full human now we got ideas we got opinions we're attitudes oh yeah we're dribbling basketball we're kicking soccer ball it's like fun to watch and then i i watch the women's sports continue to grow and it's like man it does feel like how many years you've been doing this now have you been 16 okay so at the beginning professionally okay and i don't know skiing because i assume it's always women's skiing has always been?
1:37:31It's actually, ironically, well, not ironically, but skiing is one of the few sports where women have had equal prize money to the men, really. There are a couple races, like the men race Kitzbühel, and then the prize money is insane. But otherwise, I've had several seasons where I've out-earned the men in prize money. It's really based on your performance, and there's a lot of opportunities. Let's go. I'm to the bank. To the bank. Unreal. Unbelievable. I better win tonight.
1:38:01Pat McAfee:Yeah, we love that. Let's get her an award tomorrow. I just snorted. That's okay. It's tomorrow. Yeah, I love that. Tomorrow night. Yeah, we're all living in the same day. Time is a flat circle. But skiing, European though, right? I mean, that's all mostly. It's more European-based for sure. Yeah. No air conditioning. They don't. Actually, this is a totally different topic. They don't have AC in Europe, really. So it's been tough this summer. But, yeah, it's a lot bigger in Europe. Yep, Bodie Miller, I think he used to have a shirt that said something like, I'm big in Europe. It's like getting more energy into the U.S.
1:38:36because now we have more U.S. races, and this season we'll have a race in Fever Creek. We have a race in Killington.
1:38:41Pat McAfee:Oh, Killington. That's a tall shout-out for Matt. That's a tall shout-out for Matt's backyard. Smells a bit icy up there. It is. Easy. Yeah. I think there's some power up there. It's fresh power. I like going out west. Dale just bought it. Dale just bought it. Okay, all right. Vale bought Vermont? Vale bought Killington. They also bought Seven Springs, too. Is Bernie okay with it? That is his state. I think Victoria is dealing with other stuff. All right, let's move along. We'll keep it on sports. I didn't know we sold a state, though. That's like Louisiana back in. It was a mountain. Oh, they bought the mountain.
1:39:16Yeah, yeah. Noah Kahn sings about it. They bought the mountain. He had a hole in one. He did. Did you see that? I also saw someone DM a guy and said, like, hey, FYI, I was there. Not real.
1:39:27Pat McAfee:Don't say that about Noah. There's no way out there. Don't do that. He's told out that way four times. I love the guy. I know all his songs. I will ask him on Saturday. We're going to go to the concert. You're so famous. We love that. I'm lucky. I just know a person who's friends with him. Okay, I like that. Take your SB there. AJ has a question for you. Yeah, Pat was talking about sports. I guess growing up, did you play team sports? I mean, obviously skiing is something. It's you out there. You have a team around you behind the scenes. But I guess what is that like when it's all on you? win or lose hey there's nowhere no point you know fingers to point anyone else really absolutely i mean it is a different vibe and you do have an incredible team and the support system but to perform on your sort of field of play alone is uh i guess there's good and bad to it in the one sense you you do have to take that responsibility entirely you know on yourself in that moment and And I like that.
1:40:20I like feeling like I'm in control of the outcome. Yeah. But I also feel like there's points in times where I look at team sports and I think how incredible would it be to carry the weight of something so big together. I definitely felt that at the Olympics. It was like, oh, my gosh, I just feel so isolated. And it took a lot to get through that. And I would look at teams and be like, I imagine you don't feel as isolated. You know, you have each other to kind of carry the weight of this. But what do you do?
1:40:51Pat McAfee:Just punch a wall? That's what I used to do as an isolated position kicker punter. Nobody cares about what I do if I fail. Maybe I should have punched a wall. Bad idea. Can we talk about what's on your wrist here? This? Yeah. Do you like it? Yeah. I like it too. You got the rotating bezel. Nice. You were giving a great answer. Would you like to see it? Here, look at this. Yeah. I mean, wow. Pretty gold. Thank you. It's a Longines. I just got it. It's very nice. You just got it? I just got it, like, this spring. Oh, let me break it real quick because I've got to put this on my wrist. I'm just going to take a couple links out.
1:41:29I feel so cool.
1:41:30Pat McAfee:Thank you so much. Yeah, I feel like this is not quite fit. Did I win this on a mountain or did I buy this? Well, Longines is one of my partners, so I didn't buy it per se. I bought it with effort. Oh, so that's why. I earned it. That's why you wouldn't put that watch on right there. Yeah, no, I'm sorry. It's very nice, but I can't. Hey, listen, you handle your business, Michaela. Ty has a question for you. I'm just curious, like, do you have an off season? Because there's obviously fresh pow everywhere. You know, like, if you want to get on a mountain, you can. Like, do you kind of just decide, like, you know what, I'm not going to ski for a couple weeks here?
1:42:06Because I assume that it just goes year-round, doesn't it? It does, in a sense. And so I think we really, this period of time we're in right now, like May, June, July, it is pretty strength and conditioning heavy. So we kind of have training camp. But, like, I've been traveling to Norway, to Austria. Oh, thank you. Yeah, no problem.
1:42:23Pat McAfee:I was broken. And just spending a lot of time in the gym and doing a lot of workouts. All right, what are the workouts? Legs. A lot of legs, squats, Bulgarian split squats, the bane of my existence. What are those? Can you show us a Bulgarian split squat? I was going to ask her to show exactly. Is it one foot up? One foot. I don't have any cartilage left. Careful, careful. Yeah, there you go. Is that good form, though? That's pretty good. That is good. You have to get a little bit, like, you've got to tuck your tail. I've got tight, babe. I've got tight, babe. I've got tight, babe. I've got tight, babe.
1:42:51I've got tight, babe. I've got tight, babe. I've got tight, babe. I've got tight, babe. I've got tight hips. Still got the juice, Tony.
1:42:55Pat McAfee:Tuck your tail, squeeze your cheeks. Squeeze the cheeks. Get down or pal. Yeah, no. Oh, it's hot here. Can you tell me about, so you work out with husband, though, right? Yeah. He's also a skier, I think. When we get to be together kind of during this period of time, then we do a lot of our workouts together. And he's a skier as well. He's recovering from a really bad crash several years ago. And he cut his leg almost off. And his shoulder was hanging on by basically skin. And then he got an infection in the shoulder. So it's been like a multiple year return to racing. And he's now feeling like he's back in good shape.
1:43:29So it's really exciting going into this season. Yeah. Yeah. Superhero This guy right here Show us your leg No you don't need to clap we're clapping for you They almost cut his leg off
1:43:43Pat McAfee:And then his shoulder It was gnarly You guys can look it up later Now he's from Norway but he skis for America No he skis for Norway I take back my clap Connor has a question for you Yeah Michaela Pat mentioned the what's the point pod and I was listening to the episode of you and your mother talking about, like, overcommitment to your sport. Thank you for listening. Of course. You guys were drinking wine. It was pretty awesome. We listened, Michaela. We tried to support you. Video on Spotify very clutch, too, because you can listen and watch. But you mentioned overcommitment, and how did you learn to deal with that?
1:44:20Like, I'm assuming early on in your career it was tough to do, like, stuff like this and, like, actually enjoy the offseason. How did you learn to do that? Was there a certain point where it was like, hey, this is just too much, like mentally like yeah I have to take a break how did that kind of whole thing come about I feel like I've sort of naturally grown into more of the media marketing side of things and the beginning of my career I had success early on but it's like you just you sort of naturally grow into it so the first few seasons of my career was like I was just home and working out for eight weeks in the summer and, you know, I didn't have to do that much travel.
1:44:59And then as I got more sponsorships and sort of sponsorships grew, partnerships became a little bit bigger and maybe more time commitment. I feel like that was a pretty natural progression, but I've been lucky because my family was always very protective of my time and energy and mental space. And the team that I have, my agent, my publicist, they've always been really, really good about knowing what the sport demands and allowing me the space to be able to really give 100 % to that. But it's a tough balance because ski racing is, like, once you're in it, you are fully in it. There's no time. Once August hits, I have no time to do any real promotional work or anything like that.
1:45:39It's just you're going nonstop. I mean, it's probably the same in every other sport, too, but there's not a lot of time when you're doing it. If you want to be great, you have to.
1:45:49Pat McAfee:I was talking to Ashton. Braxton. Braxton. Ashcraft. Ashcraft. That sounds a lot like ass crack. It's close. And I am going to tell you I don't like that because how much I like the guy. He's first time all-star pitcher. Could have played in the NFL. Wow. I was talking to him, and, you know, I told him, like, now what's going to happen is next season you're going to try to be better. And then next season you're going to try to be better. And it becomes this psycho obsession that the greats have. Yeah. that's what separates the greats from the good. You don't sit complacently. You're like always looking for the next thing.
1:46:25Pat McAfee:Yeah, and it completely takes you over. And I think that's what you were talking about, that in the over-commitment stage. And I think, but you have to, don't you? Isn't that kind of like the part of being elite in this entire thing? It's kind of a gift and a curse. It's like an addiction to feeling like what's around the corner. And if I've done something incredible, it's not really solely about the results. It's more like if I just work a little bit harder or maybe a little bit smarter, I find there's always something you can tweak. like nutrition, the mental work, definitely the physical work.
1:46:52And there's always new and different ways of training that come out there. And you maybe work with a different strength coach and all of these things that you can tweak. And then you see these improvements or maybe you see like a decline. And then you think, oh, that wasn't the right direction. But there's so much you can. It's like a constantly changing puzzle. And you're always peeking around the corner. And then as you see like success improve or you're like the best feeling I have is starting the racing season and feeling strong. Like, if you don't feel strong when you make a ski turn, I have nightmares about it.
1:47:25Like, trying to make a ski turn and just completely, like, we call it stumping out when you just can't handle the forces. On the flip side, like, the best feeling is going to do, like, make a run and feel like, oh, I've got, like, my legs are strong. I'm good. Like, I've got the power.
1:47:40Pat McAfee:Yeah, but nobody's watching you do the Bulgarian split squats. Right. And you don't know if you've done enough until, what, that first? Until that moment when you're like, am I strong enough or not? and then you get there you're like oh yes everything paid off but yeah you have to look three months down the line or even three years down the line and think am I doing what I need to do now in order to feel that way when it's time to perform Dan Patrick question here so I do apologize for that tough it's a hard question that's what Dan Patrick was going to do to Kathy Engelberg damn right and she's a commissioner of the league so tough question every question is a tough question they need to talk Now.
1:48:18They do. Maybe do a golf round.
1:48:20Pat McAfee:No, I watched her out of the sand. I think she should. Okay. I think she's not bad, though. The second – everybody saw the first skull. Yeah. And that was just practice. I should not do the motion that I just did. Okay, I know that. But that is what the ball did. Yeah, for sure. The ball did go that way. It did. The second one was nice. It was very nice. Nobody's talking about that. Everybody's talking about the skull. And they won't. Yeah, nobody's going to talk about that. She's a great commish. makes adjustments well so that's what everybody's wondering that's where the questions come in but I do hope that Dan and her get a chance to chat booking sucks thank you for joining our show Dan Patrick question coming if I was to show a clip of you talking on my show to my daughter about her mentality or mindset and how you treat competition and like day to day being an athlete you know everybody talks about the mamba mentality I had a very lucky opportunity to be around Peyton Manning.
1:49:16Pat McAfee:So hard work, obviously, is the basis of everybody that's ever been great. But your mentality, what is it? Are you trying to get better every day or trying to get better every moment? Are you like a long-term thinker? Like, what is your mentality you think that has separated you to become who you are, which is a sixth World Cup skiing title. One more for the record. Olympic legend, ESPY winner already, probably another one coming if they do the right thing. what is like if you had to describe the way your mentality is your mindset is what separates you from maybe others in between the ears what would you say was?
1:49:50Pat McAfee:That I could tell my daughter. Yeah, Dan Patrick question. You need to think about that. Yeah. We got time. We got time. How much time do we have? That was a good... That was. I think Dan would be happy about that. That would be well done. Good for you, man. This one's for you. Yeah. This one's for you. Yes. So, well put. Jeez, keep clapping. Michaela? No, no, she's got to get the answer. I'm thinking about the answer. Really cool shoes, by the way, while you're thinking about it. Mine? Super European. Thanks, guys.
1:50:23Mentality, I think it's a little bit of improvement every day, but actually lately I've been thinking a lot about this motivation piece. There's kind of a misconception that the greatest are just motivated all the time, and everybody else out there is trying to wonder what's the key to being more motivated more consistently and I actually find myself not that motivated probably 80 percent of the time like it's very rare that I'll get up out of bed in the morning and be like I'm so excited to go do Bulgarian split squats or whatever or like it's very fun to go skiing but usually it's pretty grueling so it's I'm not like motivated all the time so I think part of my mentality is just working on the like the relentless consistency when there's a lack of motivation it's more like the discipline side of things.
1:51:11And if you don't feel like you're improving every single day or every single minute, you just know that you're kind of consistently putting in work and pieces of the puzzle that are going to lead to more long-term improvement. So I do think it's maybe a bit of a long-term vision, but it's really lately, it's just been about like relentless consistency.
1:51:30Pat McAfee:And if you build it. Yeah. And you're, you're building something, you're building something great and great things take time and also meaningful things are going to come with setbacks as well so it's like looking at the full picture and what a beautiful opportunity it all is and we often focus on the wins and the trophies and the victories and you see this little glimpse of the spotlight but like just there's so much more beyond that and and actually the journey is in this is so like yeah this is so cliche question for a potential cliche is a hard questions so yeah cliches are normally good answers well it's like what you learn in your life is on the route to get to where you're going like the gold medal got me nothing oh my gosh but everything i did on the way is like oh shit i learned so much about communication with my team and like and building a business and understanding what feels important and trying to take on the risk of failure and criticism that would come with that and actually say like i'm gonna hold is in my hands and I'm going to just be one with it because I can't avoid the criticism if I F this up but like it's just so worth it to try like those are the things that I get from it.
1:52:42Pat McAfee:Turns out the fulfillment is in the journey. It is. Cheers to that. Cheers to you. Cheers to that. Thank you for being an inspiration I don't know if you drink Jack and Diet at this time This is not my water but what are you drinking? Here's a fresh one. Get me one of those. You want weed? Okay. Cheers to you. Cheers to you, Michaela. Cheers. Thank you so much for joining us. Thank you. Good luck tomorrow night on winning another SP. Good luck on everything. Thank you for inspiring so many, including my daughter. Thank you. And all the other lads' daughters down there. And keep going. We very much respect and appreciate the hell out of it.
1:53:20Thank you guys so much. Very fun. Very fun. Michaela, what's the point? Well, the point, it's an elusive thing. It is.
1:53:31Pat McAfee:It is an elusive thing. On that note. Bottoms up. Bottoms up is the point. Okay. You said it. Oh, oh, oh, yeah. Very good. I said it. We're back tomorrow. Have a good one. Goodbye. That's how the show ended. Yeah. Thanks for doing that, Michaela. Perfect. What's the point? I don't know if I can end the show terribly, it sounds like. Michaela, you're the best. Thanks. We're still on the internet. People will still hear you talk right now if you were to say anything. So I don't know if you want to just get it. Just say something. Yeah. Or just leave. You could just leave. You could just leave. You could talk about how it would be much cooler if your husband would just go ahead and call himself Dan and become an American skier for us the next Olympics.
1:54:11You're just recruiting everybody to be. Yeah.
1:54:14Pat McAfee:Yeah, we are. Team USA. Thank you. We'll work on it. Yeah, okay. You're the best. Thank you. Ladies and gentlemen. Bye, guys. Thank you. Yeah. Yeah.
1:54:26Pat McAfee:You're awesome. Thank you so much. See you Take care team Good luck out there Hope you guys win another one If you don't win Bullshit Oh absolutely Okay Sounds good to me There's a lot of me I don't know if you need that But All right Put it in there We'll talk about the Apres ski probably Yeah Yeah there you go I've never really done this skiing I've heard it's amazing It's a great time So much fun Bale We had a friend, rest in peace. Tell you right. Yeah, we had a friend, rest in peace, living legend, Vontae Davis. Oh, yeah. Who, I mean, I don't think I would have said, you know what, this guy's going to become an avid skier.
1:55:11Pat McAfee:He really did. Oh, yeah. He became super, took you out there a couple times, right? I feel like people do love skiing whenever they get out there to do it. It's the best. It scares the shit out of me. I mean, it's a great time. Obviously, skiing is fun. It's dangerous. It's speed. It's fast. It's all the different things that we like from other sports. But I think more than the actual skiing is, like, you know, just getting away, getting away with your people, going up in a cabin, seeing mountains, the weather. The views are crazy. Like, you know, I love going places with water, with, you know, seeing an ocean, an ocean front room.
1:55:40That's typically my go-to. But it's nothing like, you know, having those windows and seeing, like, those mountains out there, snow-capped. Fresh pow in the mountains. Yeah, it's unbelievable. Maybe a hot tub out there, but it's – So, yeah. Cabins. It's all amazing, man. It's incredible. Wow. Ski is the best. Especially because sometimes you can get lost on the mountain. That part can sometimes think because you get on different lifts. It's a huge entire thing. But when you go up and you don't do the hard double black diamonds, black diamonds. You just do the green circles or the blue squares. You can go on sweet 20-minute cruises almost.
1:56:15I would almost compare it to riding a motorcycle.
1:56:19Pat McAfee:So we got music and ears? Music and ears. You got beers that you can drink on the lift up when you're taking a break. We're all smoking, obviously. Of course. I feel like that's part of the culture innately. But then, yeah, to what you said, the apres ski. Because a lot of these places, it's winter. It gets dark out at 4, 5. There's night skiing at 8, so they close the mountain anyways to re-groom it and everything. But skiing is incredible. It's a little dangerous at night. A little scary. AJ, you ever ski? For about 25 minutes. Never got to the lift. Snowboarder. No, I've never done either. Mike, yeah, we tried to go one time, my youngest, yeah.
1:56:54Pat McAfee:Explosive diarrhea? No, we put him in the, you know, like the kids club thing to try to, he was really young. He was really young and we were on the bunny hill trying to do little lessons and then 30 minutes later the thing closed and they said, all right, and we had to leave. Got to take all of our stuff so I've never skied. Sounds like good timing. So I never got off just the main little bunny hill so I never even saw the lift. The mountain kicked the Hawks off. What time did you go? At noon. And like they said, actually, he was super young. And obviously, he was a bit of a tyrant at the age he was.
1:57:25And so when he came out of the kids club, they said, hey, sorry, we closed it at 2. Our dude was still giving us a little family lesson on the bunny hill. And I said, man, it would be cool to see wherever the lift would even be. And we never saw any of this. That was my one skiing experience. I actually did the show from the cabin when I was there. I don't know what. Wisconsin? It was one of those states out west. You know, Idaho. Colorado. Utah. One of those.
1:57:48Pat McAfee:They're not all the same, AJ. No, they're not, but I always get mixed up. Like, there's Idaho. Well, it sounds like it was a pretty shitty trip. The trip was amazing. It was big sky. Skiing's a ton of work. Just walking with those boots on was very, very difficult. But I would like to go to my brother's skis. I still do want to go. I wouldn't say I'm extremely motivated. How'd Ryan Hawk do at the American Central Championship? Oh, he did great. He did awesome, man. How was the Miz's caddy? Miz's caddy, they were very talkative. I'm going to say I hate that guy. Yeah, word on the truth is he's a slide-a-day.
1:58:19He's my best friend.
1:58:21Pat McAfee:I called the Miz and said, you need to get the caddy the hell out of there. The guy was filming. The Miz hits the best shot other than the chip-in that he's ever hit in his life from the hospitality area. And I got this guy who's lucky as hell to be there. And he goes, oh, I guess now I'm a videographer and a cat. Shut the fuck up. Miz shouldn't have you there anyways. The guy had eight double bogeys in a row. You are the problem. But on that note, he did ship in. He did. He did. That's all he needed. I guess that gets the caddy another trip to this thing. The caddy's a big part of the problem, I think, for Miz.
1:58:55Pat McAfee:You think? Yes. Well, maybe just because he, what do you want to say, he instigates him or he makes him think, hey, we should talk about this putt for 40 minutes, even though we know we're not going to even two putts. The problem, this guy's having a blast. I mean, I guess Miz did win. He got this. Look at him. Look at that. Hold on, wait until he screams at the camera here. He screams at the camera, dude, but I'm good at golf. I'm good at golf. I am good at golf. And then he would go on to have seven doubles after that. Double bogeys, not double jacks. It looks great, though. If that doesn't go in, that's going about 40 yards past the green.
1:59:30Doesn't matter. No, of course not. Of course not.
1:59:32Pat McAfee:Just say what I said about the caddy, though. You could say the caddy is the problem. You said the caddy. Yeah, I would say the caddy is definitely not helping him. Thank you. Because more people need to tell the maze the truth. That was a two-hopper. Yeah, yeah, yeah. A bunch of backspin on it. Take a back. Walk me back. That was a two-hopper. It was going to stop right there. TV just turned off in front of the desk here. I think that's our cue. Show the desk here. Show the desk here, Foxy. Yep. Went to a loading screen. Oh, yeah. There it is. And show's over. All right. Here we go.
2:00:08This episode is brought to you by Google Chrome. You think you know a browser, but Gemini and Chrome, that's new. It can help you with practically anything on the web, like restoring a vintage motorcycle from a 50-page restoration block, or finally break down that long article you've had open for weeks. Gemini and Chrome is here for it. Ready to make anything online make sense? There's no place like Chrome. Check responses set up required, compatibility and availability varies 18+. Are all batteries the same? That's like asking if all soccer players are the same. Take Messi, the most decorated player ever.
2:00:44Is there any other player who has achieved that? No, just him. Now take Duracell. Is there any other battery with Power Boost ingredients inside? No, just Duracell. Remember, goats only trust goats because they're built different and Messi only trusts Duracell.
2:01:053 o 'clock.
2:01:07Pat McAfee:Yeah, let's go. 3 o 'clock, there's a soccer game happening. France and Spain, a big, oh, who cares? But. Whoa. What are you talking about? What? The game of the tournament. Who's going to win? The top two ranked teams in the world. Two best players in the world. What? Balloon duels. What was that? It's the number one and number two team of the world. What are you talking about, man? You guys are the easiest people. It's one versus two. Gumpy. This is the championship. Come on, Jamal. This is not the championship, basically. The winner of this wins the World Cup. It's in Prague. Is Blue Messi playing in his face?
2:01:45No.
2:01:47Pat McAfee:Gumpy, will you at least find a space to speak? You know what I mean? If you're coming from a different place. Gumpy, you're our soccer expert. So let's make sure we're not stepping on you when you're singing a song that you had Bruce singing all night last night as he got drunk and got put into. Started the show with it. No, you're good. Show's over. Thank you, dude. Great work, though. I appreciate you getting on that. Gumpy, tell me why this game doesn't matter. These are the two top teams in the world. Them, Argentina, England, top four teams in the world, both semis. I think Spain keeps the ball here.
2:02:20It's going to be interesting because France has a lot of the ball in all their games. All right. You guys are saying the game doesn't matter? Not convincing. That was me. That was me. That was me. Stop. He's not. He's not. convincing me. Gumpy's not convincing me. Let's go. It was AJ. We've been waiting for this. I didn't do the snorting sound. Just tune in just to watch France. France plays a different score. He's plus 750.
2:02:44Pat McAfee:Can you guys like Gumpy talk, please? It's these two guys. You guys are screaming over Gumpy. Come on, Gump. Please. You, Ty. Mostly. I'm not saying anything. I know Gumpy. Yeah, this is going to be a great game. Yeah, France, Spain. Personally, I think Yabin, Lamar, whatever the fuck is, I think he absolutely stinks. I'm not with this guy. Not as advertised. What I am interested in is the game tomorrow. I hate him. I hate watching this guy play soccer. Now on the flip side. He walks around. I didn't see him. Holland's A-OK. And I love watching him. Are we talking about Lamin right now? Yeah. Holland's A-OK.
2:03:21Pat McAfee:You knew these guys? He stinks. Lou Messi. Lou Messi. I'm OK with it. You can walk around however you want. You know why? Because he finishes. I'm all kidding. OK. I understand he's a weapon. Everybody loves him. He's on here. He's the best player in the world. No, he's not. No, he fucking lied. Leo Messi exists. I don't know if he'd start for USA. I don't know if he would. All right. Why should I like Yamal? Dude, he's not fully fit right now. He got hurt at the end of the season for Barcelona. He's kind of ramping back up. I think he will score today. I like the Spain squad to show up today.
2:03:56Yeah, I bet on him every fucking game to score a goal This guy doesn't do a fucking thing. That's all I hear, though. He's the best player in the world. He's the best player in the world. He's the best player in the world. You know what I see? I see a guy with a goofy fucking haircut who cannot put the ball in the back of the net. I tell you what he hasn't done. He hasn't tapped out of a game, I'll tell you that much. Who did that? The guy you're rooting for. Yeah. You know why? How many fucking goals did Holland score? Seven. Seven. I mean, yeah, that guy. Where are they now? I mean. Norway, they're skiing.
2:04:32You're saying Harland has a supporting cast that Jamal has? Are you kidding me? He's playing with a bunch of guys who are ship painters and, you know. They're great players. They got Arsenal's captain out there, dude. They're very good. I will say, Odegaard, he's fit and he's quality. Okay, all right. There he is. The media mall is awesome. He's not. Okay. He's 19 years old. He is not. I need him to run. Holland is my goat. He's younger than Messi when he scored his first goal at the World Cup. Cool. And he thinks he's Messi already.
2:05:08Pat McAfee:He's not. Run. I am sick of watching you walk around. I hate you. Score a goal if you're going to walk around the entire time. This is unbelievable. This guy needs to run. I agree. I need to watch. I haven't seen it. He walks around like Messi, but he doesn't score. He'll be up there on the top. He'll be up there on the top. Really? He's nowhere near Messi. Messi's a wizard. This kid. First time he touches the ball, you'll be like, oh, okay. Oh, that's the kid's calling over. I see why they say it. I see why they say it. Is he fast or something? Spain plays a ticky-tocker game. I almost thought it was much different than give the ball to Lou and move around.
2:05:40They're paying it back and forth.
2:05:42Pat McAfee:Now, I would like the international people that are going to definitely watch what we just did and say that Americans don't know ball. I would like to let everybody know they are right. And it turns out, what my eyes see with that Spain team, I want to puke. I hate the way they play soccer. Hold the ball too much. I can't wait to watch that. Honestly, you've inspired me to watch. I hate it. I hate the way the Spaniards play soccer. That is what I have decided. I think it's disgusting. I don't like it. I absolutely hate it. On that note, Mbop. The way they play. I like the way they play. They play a different game.
2:06:20Pat McAfee:Yeah, it's like respectable. They're old front four. That was unbelievable. Yeah, their attack, they all have it on the street. Football is coming home. I won't worry about it. So England, I like watching England too. Me too. Because they got a couple guys. They got Jude and obviously Harry. Saka. But their entire team obviously knows. And then Argentina, it's like, it's messy. It's just blue. Yeah, so this is the last time playing for Argentina. He'll be on America four years from now. That happens tomorrow at 3 o 'clock. Obviously, it's very quiet in here. We were just screaming. It's all right.
2:06:50I got a little heated up over you mall there. Yeah. He stinks, though. Not as, like, a player, but, like, fuck that guy. I'm going to do it. Don't do it. As a person. As a person. Did you happen to see the bags that Shregs walked out of here with? Oh, yeah. That's going to be me in about 10 minutes. Yep.
2:07:08Pat McAfee:All right. I'm happy you got the Shreger routine down. So some stuff, you know, in this particular position that I have, which is a very cool one and honored to have it, you know, kind of guiding where we head on a daily basis through conversations. We don't have an A block, B block. We just have a list of headlines, okay, of things that have happened. This thing could lead the show if we happen to see it a minute before we go. This is not like A block, B block, this entire thing. We kind of just go wherever. You guys see this. We're an ADHD show. I mean, it's how it is. Some things, though, are for the good of sport.
2:07:43Pat McAfee:We're going to talk about these things, for the good of stories, for the good of just us having the platform that we have. and I think responsibility to people. And there are some things that are just 100 % for me. Okay. What we just did there was 100 % for me. That was the easiest toss just right over to this group right here and just have a full meltdown. Ty last night at about 2.15 a.m. had that Yamal take, and it was a little louder and a little bit more color. But I'm happy you still got it here in this state of mind too. And I'm glad I got it out because guess what? I don't fucking remember saying that last night.
2:08:23Pat McAfee:I knew it was in there. So I would like to let the Spaniards know. I don't necessarily feel the way that I just said I felt. I was trying to get one person to get going there. And I'll tell you what, it worked. And I'll let everyone in on a little secret. I don't necessarily care or feel that way either. But I just, you know what? Hey, it's World Cup fever. Yeah, we're in there. It is emotion. Yeah, exactly. It has been unbelievable. I'm telling you, that England game I went to in Miami was one of the coolest things I've ever been a part of in my life, man. Yeah, I'm happy you got a chance to experience that.
2:08:57Pat McAfee:Gumpy was down in Miami, second home with his. Obviously has a lot of connections down there at one particular club, more so than other places, so he certainly loves that. We happen to pay for maybe a celebration for an Olympic team, and now Gumpy is obviously reaping the benefits of that. And by the way, as he should. Go on, Mike. Go on, lad. Go on, lad. Go on, lad. Someone's got to do it. Yeah, because I can't, obviously. There we go. Go on, lad. You should do that. I'll carry that as a badge of honor. Yeah, thank you for representing for all of us down there. Well done, lad. And shout out to Gino and all the boys down there.
2:09:33Pat McAfee:But Gumpy did a yacht down there. I mean. Oh, he was showing me some pictures. Yeah, Gumpy was living down there. He was supposed to leave on Friday. Okay, he was supposed to get out of there on Friday. Yeah. And then I don't know if he was the one that found out whenever he got down there or if one of us told him, but England was playing in Miami like two days later or whatever from when he was supposed to leave. And we all told him, like, hey, how often are you going to get to see your team go? We didn't even think about England losing. No. And thank God they didn't. Then that first goal. It was a very good game.
2:10:02Pat McAfee:Uh-oh. Yeah, it was a great game. And Gumpy was right in the middle of all the English people. And, Gumpy, it's true that as soon as a goal is scored, all the English just tossed their beers. Beer everywhere. I was just covered in beers 108 degrees. I mean, it was absolute chaos. How much are those beers? They're about$26, I think, at the Miami Stadium. I'm telling you, that's the most crazy thing I've seen because when England scores, you do see it in a crowd. It's like beers flying everywhere. And it's like that's got to be a gimmick or something because those beers are way too expensive. It's like, nope.
2:10:33Pat McAfee:God just go, hey, line, how is it? See, I always just assumed it was their piss because they didn't want to go to the bathroom. They would drink their beer and then piss in the cups and then they would just throw the piss. Well, they used their piss for mouthwash, though. So I don't know if they would throw this in the air. All right. Let's get out of here. Shout out to the Espy's. We might be back here tomorrow. Maybe. Hopefully. It's a really nice room. It's a really nice room. I mean, that thing's sick. Shout out to Hummer. Love what you guys do. Shout out to Hummer. We'll be over there in a second.
2:11:05Thank you for giving us.
2:11:06Pat McAfee:Can I get a better roof? It rains in my car. Just like their roof. This guy says he's never heard of that. It's an electric car. There's no way they're supposed to be. I don't know if this guy's actually seen a Hummer before. I'm just here with the bags. He said user error. User error. I didn't touch it, bro. I just bought the thing. So you would be the user. But on that note, it is a wonderful convenience just to be able to plug that thing in and just get back and forth. Tell that to the kids. Shout out to you guys. Tell that to the freaking kids, man. My daughter loves it. How about that? I ain't talking about your daughter.
2:11:45Pat McAfee:Well, you need to maybe start thinking about her a little bit more than those other kids that you're talking about from a meme on Instagram. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice. It might change their life. AJ, great to see you, buddy. It's been a while. Huggles? Let's go, Huggles. D-Buck, great performance last night. Hey, man. It's been great being back. Love it. Good shit today. D-Buck looking for Ty last night. All of us saw Ty get up and leave out of nowhere. At the game? No, at the bar last night. that we kind of commandeered. And about 1.45-ish, 2 o 'clock-ish, Ty just got up and left.
2:12:19Pat McAfee:And he was in no state to probably be just by himself roaming. And we all took like five to ten minutes just being like, well, we thought he went to the bathroom. And then everybody's like, no, he just left. And then Debo's like, I'll go. Debo gets up, goes out there. And Debo disappears. I'm like, well, we just lost Debo as well. So we thought everybody was gone. D-Buck comes back and goes, Ty found the cheesecake factory of Bodega's. No. I did. And I did. Ty came back with four bags. Oh, he came back. Four bags. He said he spent$140. Left to go home to eat the cheesecake. Plural. He had a bacon cheeseburger.
2:12:57Yeah. I was concerned because he had left a freshly ordered drink. Oh. So that was like, okay. But he did take his phone, though.
2:13:04Pat McAfee:But he did take his phone. But the drink being left concerned me. You come in with five bags back from that bodega at 2.15 a.m. I was hungry. And we're going to do it again after this. You got to do what you got to do. You got to do what you got to do. Okay. Who's our pick for France-Spain? We don't have a bet. Our bet. France. France. France. Yeah, we hate Spain. France. Yeah, I ain't fucking doing it again with them. Dumpy, who do you like? Spain to qualify. He's scared of France. Yeah, he is. Yeah, England. Shaking in their boots. Uh-oh. You need to worry about Lou. More than anything. I don't think so.
2:13:38Well, yeah, actually, FIFA will just kind of find a way to push them through. Yep.
2:13:41Pat McAfee:I heard it's a good ref for them. We'll talk about that tomorrow. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice might change their life. Let's enjoy the hell out of this life. Kinley, good work, bud. That'll be me, Kinley. Thank you. Thank you. Yep. Thank you. Doug O. You want to come in here? Yeah, yeah. You're already on the show. You're already on camera. You want to come in here? Doug O. There it is. Doug O.
2:14:02Pat McAfee:Kinley, you got anything you can say to the team? Bless Jesus. Hell, yes. Okay. Thank you, Kinley. I'm going to steal that. Yeah. Amen. We need that, actually. We do. Without a doubt. We do need that. Team on me. We'll be back tomorrow. Shout out to the ESPs. Thank you for the space. I don't know how many people we pissed off in here, but we walked in here with people pissed off at us anyways. Yeah, dude. Who cares? The guy that runs this thing, interesting guy. I hope he does a good show. He won't. Team on me. I like that. Hey, fuck you. Look at that kid not doing it. Yeah, all right. Thank you.
2:14:37Pat McAfee:Yeah. What's up, dude? Super handsome. He looks really cool. Thank you. He's in too. Oh, he's not. Team on me. Team on three. Oh, Hummer's not in. Wow, that's because they got a leaky roof. One, two, three. Team. Goodbye.
2:15:01Pat McAfee:Still up. Hey. Gumpy's visa just got approved. Oh, yeah. Nice, guys. Hey, go on, lad. USA. USA. USA. USA. Way to go, Gumpy. Go on, lad. Have one, lad. Now, Gumpy is just a mere five years away from trying to pass a test. That's a good five. And become an American citizen. On that note, Gumpy has not had to learn something and then apply it since he was 17 years old. Yeah, he's got to start studying now. His confidence is way too high to pass that test. Gumpy, you have five years to try to learn about the Declaration of Independence in the United States of America. We should start studying now.
2:15:43Pat McAfee:But on that note, you are the epitome of the American dream, Gumpy. And you should be incredibly proud of yourself. And shout out to the politicking that we actually had to do to do all this. And shout out to you getting approved, Gumpy. And to... What's up, Gump? And to... West Virginia senator? Yeah. Tommy Ducal? Capito. Oh. What's her name? What's her name, Gumpy? Trying to find it right now. Oh, no. Yikes. Yikes. Dumped us. Yeah, Capito. Senator Capito. Senator Capito. West Virginia. Met Gumpy at the College World Series. And I go, hey, what's the deal with not being able to get this? This is way too hard.
2:16:27Pat McAfee:This guy is one of one. He's the only person that can have this job. He didn't graduate college. He could have He could have He went to the school of hard knocks guys He's a savant Went to the painter clown college Was that the official? Graduated with honors Wait he went to PCC? That's a top thing to sell to the American government On why he should take a space in America From what we found out Miss Capito went crazy for it We appreciate her a lot We also appreciate Senator from Indiana
2:17:05Todd Young
2:17:06Pat McAfee:Todd Young helped us in this entire thing We appreciate that And Gumpy, I'm proud of you buddy It's This is a big day for us actually We've been very worried about it We thought Gumpy was about to get another 10 year band Like that was real We could have hit him Yeah Especially with how little he is Shave his beard, give him a toupee Yeah, especially with his little shoes too We could have just snuck him Thank you for everything, brother. I appreciate it. All right. Be for a time. Read something nice. It could change their life. Gumpy, we're proud of you, buddy. We are. Thank you, boys. I appreciate you all.
2:17:41Pat McAfee:Hey, any final words, Gumpy, for the entire ESPYs lounge here who's celebrating you a little bit? Just a great day. You know, every day is a great day. But maybe this is the best day ever. And now we're going to go have some pints with Shane and Owen and watch some footy. Can't get any better than this, boys. Hate that we got to watch this Spain team on such a good day. but I guess we will do that, won't we, Ty? Yes, we will. Well, we're not going to like it, but we'll do it. Team on me. Team on three. On today's show, Pat, and the boys are live New York in preparation for the ESPYS awards tomorrow night.
To kick things off, we are joined by Saint Louis Cardinal and Home Run Derby champion Jordan Walker, to discuss his electric performance last night. After Walker, we are joined in person by the king of New York Peter Schrager as he gets ready for his first ever ESPYS awards and breaks down the latest he has been hearing from the Rams and pending Aaron Donald return. After Schrager, Pat and the boys are joined by ESPN gold expert Mark Schlabach who is across the pond covering The Open this week. We wrap up with Olympic Gold Medalist snow Skier Mikaela Shiffrin, as her and Pat catch up about what’s been going on in her career, the growth of women’s sports, and her own ESPYS experiences. Pat and the boys wrap up todays show with some heated World Cup discussion around the Spain and France vs Spain matchup later today. Make sure to subscribe to youtube.com/thepatmcafeeshow or watch on ESPN (12-2 EDT), ESPN’s Youtube (12-3 EDT), or ESPN+. We appreciate the hell out of all of you, and will be back tomorrow. Cheers.
