Key claims

  • NFL rookie “survival” stretch is weeks 9–14 (motivation/body management).
  • World Cup final Sunday may be affected by poor air quality from Canadian wildfires; concern for players’ ability to breathe.
  • In golf’s Royal Birkdale major, Lucas Herbert and Sam Burns both shot 62s; only seven players have ever shot 62 in a major round.
  • Indiana’s recruiting/culture success is driven by players who love the process, want to be coached, have high standards, and are tough/“smart.”
  • Indiana’s transfer-quarterback approach (since 2019) has been a winning recipe; Josh Hoover is expected to fit that mold.

Notable examples

  • Herbert’s 62 with a 28 on the front nine; Burns’ sand chip-in on 18.
  • World Cup final: Spain vs Argentina (MetLife Stadium).
  • Indiana recruiting: Monshun Sales chooses Indiana University over Texas, Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, and others.

0:00Pat McAfee:Hello beautiful people and welcome to our humble abode, the DraftKings Thunderdome. On this feel-good Friday, July 17, 2026, this program begins now. Sports are the absolute greatest and we're so incredibly lucky that we get a chance to chat about them every single day. This morning has been crazy here at the Thunderdome and that's because magic is happening everywhere. Not only do we have a major taking place overseas where, whoa, whoa, whoa, don't look now, low scores coming in. Is that because the weather is the way it is? Is it because the wind's not as bad as it is? Is it because the boys are used to the heat?

0:37Pat McAfee:Is it because the course is running for them? Is it because they've mastered golf potentially? But we've had some low, low scores this morning. Will that continue to continue throughout the weekend? We shall see. We also have a lot of magic happening around football. Don't look now. first teams first players have reported for training camp yeah now seahawks rookies in the building good luck to them obviously enjoying their off season now into a full football season remember the rookies in nfl have to go through their college season okay whatever whether a junior seniors whatever the hell it is uh whenever they come out whole entire oh sorry let's go back training camp into their last college football season into their college football season into college football postseason, directly into combine prep, right into the combine, then into their pro day, then you get drafted, then you got rookie minicamp, then you have OTAs, then you have three days off, and then you have, boom, rookies reporting to minicamp, or training camp, and then, oh yeah, longest football season you've ever had in your entire life on the other side.

1:44Pat McAfee:The Seahawks rookies are going to experience it longer than anybody can. Congratulations. Good luck, boys. They talk about that rookie wall about week eight, week nine, into about week 13, week 14, where there's literally you're in this kind of a, what's that called? Not heaven, not hell. Purgatory. The beginning of your work, which was the beginning of your last college football season, is so far behind you. You have no idea. And then the light at the end of the tunnel for the end of the season, nowhere near. No. You might have to travel to three different countries until that thing is there.

2:17Pat McAfee:So from like week nine to about week 14-ish, week 15-ish, those rookies are just surviving. I mean, it is just like, how do I find motivation? How does my body hold up? How do I not continue to just get pummeled? And oh, yeah, the most important football is happening right now. So what rookies have to do in the NFL is rude. What rookies have to do in the NFL is difficult. But there's only so many spots, kid. Go ahead. We all had to do it. Good luck. The Indiana Hoosier team that we got a chance to sit behind at the ESPYs, those kids 16 and 0 longest college football season of all time oh congratulations you make it in the nfl longest nfl season happening of all time with the most amount of travel and if you're on a team that's good that super bowl isn't for another two years buddy so good luck out there you young bucks you can handle it excited that we're already at training camp can't wait to cover the rookies in seattle as if they are patrick homes travis kelsey a training camp next week that's right uh the toxic tables here at boss connor at ty schmidt how many days con man 54 days and we'll be, what, 53 days, 23 hours and about 59 minutes at 821 tonight.

3:21Very, very excited for it all. And you know what? It's probably hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. For those guys, for us, we can now see the light at the end of the title. You know, we're saying sports in the intro. We're very close to saying football once again. Hall of Fame game, I believe, is 20 days away, less than three weeks. That is unbelievable just to think about seeing people playing. We also have to remember, hey, after Hall of Fame game, although it is awesome seeing kickoffs, seeing kick returns, that football does not kind of reflect the football that we're about to see very, very soon.

3:55Pat McAfee:You guys are about to feed the ball this weekend. Obviously, the World Cup has been holding up its end of the bargain for all of us, and we appreciate soccer for that.

4:01Mark Schlabach:Yeah, absolutely.

4:02Pat McAfee:It was a bummer whenever those games stopped being every single night. I'm being serious. Whenever we're just sitting through a night with nothing, it's like, man, you know what? I kind of wish some of these foreign little bastards were running around on a football player right now playing soccer. Okay, that is what I was thinking. This weekend, Saturday, third-place game for France and England. Good luck, lad. That way. And then World Cup Championship on Sunday, obviously, over there in New York, New Jersey, MetLife Stadium. In the shadows of New York City, Spain versus Argentina. Spain, obviously, favorite number one team in the country, or in the world.

4:34Pat McAfee:If you do recall, Spain, Argentina, France, and England are the top four teams in the world. World rankings going into the World Cup. They obviously become the final four. Is there enough parity? That's a great question.

4:45Mark Schlabach:Doesn't seem like it.

4:46Pat McAfee:Maybe soccer needs to look into its parity issues. Maybe we need a little drafting thing to be changed. Maybe we do need the guys that are playing in the countries in which they play in and places they call residency play for those teams. For instance, that guy on the right side of the picture right there, he should be playing for American. That's right. I hope he has a good time here with Argentina. I hope he goes back-to-back. Me too. Because I don't really like watching the Spain team play soccer. I know they're very talented. Congrats to you guys for being a world power and being the number one team in the world.

5:15Pat McAfee:I'm pulling for Messi. But also, I hope he goes back-to-back with Archer C. That would be sweet because he might become the first guy to ever win three World Cups in a row with two different countries. Yeah, exactly. When he plays for America four years from now. That's what we're hoping for. This weekend, huge for football. But also, I mean, we don't need to call Jim Cantor. Our eyes on the internet, Ty, have been seeing something that might be a bit alarming. It might make us go, is the under the play here for this World Cup final, Todd?

5:44Mark Schlabach:Well, yeah, is the under the play? Is the game going to even be played on Sunday is the question. Because, listen, we've had this type of thing happen before with the wildfires up in Canada. And then we get the notifications on our phone like, hey, air quality is not good in Indy. And it's kind of like, okay, yeah, whatever. Sounds good. We were just in New York. And I think it was, what, Monday? like blue skies looked unbelievable. Tuesday when we were going to the ESPYs, it was like, what the hell is going on? It was like smoggy almost. And now we're seeing videos come out from Pittsburgh and Philadelphia and other places on the East Coast.

6:19Mark Schlabach:And like they're basically saying, like I think in New York it was, they're advising people to stay inside. They said, hey, if you are, you know, walking around the city today, the air quality is the equivalent of smoking like 10 cigarettes. So don't do that. We've already had a bunch of baseball games. Either they're stacking them to play doubleheaders to get them done earlier. There's a chance that the Dodgers are in New York to play the Yankees. So we'll see. I mean, that game's supposed to be on Sunday in New York. I hope the air quality's good enough for them to play.

6:44Pat McAfee:New York, New Jersey. Well, yeah, exactly. That game's in New York, New Jersey, obviously, which is very fascinating the way they title it just from the beginning and also now with the World Cup. Longs and air, not a big deal for soccer?

6:58Mark Schlabach:I would assume that it is a huge deal.

7:01Pat McAfee:that really does because america has had such a good run here with the world cup yeah not that canada and mexico have not let's say we have absolutely crushed it but now the combination of the canadian fires with the uh air quality which we've experienced over the last couple years canada by the way this if this is what we're getting i don't even know what it is out there obviously scary scary scary scary stuff plus with the flooding that happened yeah i mean scary stuff whenever the earth just has this shit i don't know how it's possible for these things to take place but i do appreciate the fact that our planet just continues to pump through and just kind of filter it out and inevitably we'll be back to being clear skies but this is a long time it was like weeks and weeks and weeks of us having shitty air yeah this is just hitting now sunday having a world cup final i don't want this to dilute the america world cup i agree experience but there's a chance two best teams in the world can't breathe for shit in a game in which you need to...

7:56Yeah. You'll be sucking air the whole time. Which team smokes more cigs on the regular?

8:01Pat McAfee:Yeah, who's built for this? Who was born in the dark? You know, like if Maradona was playing right now, he'd be like, that guy is going to be skipping through this entire smog. But that is something that's going to be really talked about. And obviously, we here in America are going to be dealing with this because of the Canadian virus. Couldn't even imagine what it's like up in Canada. Tease a piece to everybody. But definitely something we should think about with soccer. Now, let's talk about the major that's taking place throughout this weekend as well. huge over in Royal Birkdale. Let's go to one half of the hammer.

8:27Pat McAfee:Cowboys AP tone. Huge morning over there in England, pal. Yeah, it was. You opened the show with the low scoring. There are now six men all time who have shot a 62 in a major championship round. Two of those men being today on the left, you have Lucas Herbert there who came out and shot a 62. He shot a 28 on the front nine, pat which is absolutely insane believe he birdied eight of his first 11 holes uh he is your current leader right now for the golf tournament at minus eight and then sam burns the other man on that graphic he also shot a 62 today he chipped in out of the sand to shoot that 62 on 18 they are they had unbelievable rounds historic rounds today and then also at the top of the leaderboard cam young has shot back-to-back 67s he's minus six that's what we got going on right now royal back down Shooting a 62 in a major round has happened seven times.

9:21Pat McAfee:Two times by Xander Shoffley in 2024 and 2023. Sam Burns, Lucas, Shane Lowry has done it in 2024. 2023, Ricky Fowler did it. 2017, the great Brandon Grace. Yes. Oh, yeah. He's a South African. Shout out. I mean, you shoot a 62 in a major. Let's imagine the conversations you're having with yourself. Well, you're playing some golf. No, but yeah. but then whenever you're Brandon Grayson never heard from again, it's like, I can. I definitely can, but why? So hopefully these guys will continue to do this. Obviously a historic morning. A lot of people talking about he could have broke the record of all time, missed the putt.

10:00Pat McAfee:I hate that that's a conversation. Guy just put together one of the most historic rounds of all time, and all anybody's talking about is, well, if he could just putt a ball maybe on the 18th. Oh, boy. Get it off. Get it off. Let's not talk about that. He was bummed out. You've got to make that putt. Let's get it off. He knows. He's shot a 62. It's only happened seven times. I opened the internet, obviously, after this happened, only by saying this, what a loser, this guy. This is a three-foot putt to have the all-time record in a major. It's like, okay, there was 61 other shots here. 28 of them were in the front.

10:37Pat McAfee:Now he's in the lead, and he has to sleep on that. Tomorrow it's going to be tough. Foxy doesn't have him in his little thingy. I don't. I don't think anyone does. Okay, shout out to golf pulling through for us. Shout out to soccer pulling through for us. Shout out to NFL having teams. And let's talk college football now. Obviously, we are only, I think, six Saturdays or seven Saturdays away from college game day. Yes. Everybody tighten up. We're tight. Ready. Hey, fight camps, six, seven weeks. I think that's what we got. Yeah. So maybe we do start trimming a little bit of the extra energy that maybe is sitting around some of us in here.

11:12Pat McAfee:Okay? Maybe let's try to fit in our chair still after getting married in a courthouse coming back off of break. We got a long football season coming up, Foxy. That's in your department. Yeah, Foxy, your department. Multiple people in there have seemingly decided that their bodies can handle everything, and they're going to put that to the test. I will have them in the Hawk House at 8 a.m. every morning with me if that's what you want me to do. But I would like us all to remember, football season's close. We need to understand, during football season, we're all going to become fatso's. Without a doubt.

11:44Pat McAfee:It's part of it. Not this year. Well, no, I don't care what you do when it happens. I'm just saying we can't be doing midseason fatso before season even starts because then midseason becomes Goliath heart problems. Yeah, you're right. So I'm just talking to us strictly and at home, you might be on the same page. We got about six, seven weeks here to really get into fighting shape so we can handle a football season of beating the hell out of ourselves because that's what we're going to do while we watch these incredible athletes and these magical teams try to become the next great story. Last year, Indiana Hoosiers won the national championship.

12:18Pat McAfee:They, in any other year, could potentially win the ESPY for the best team of all time because just a few years back, they were the worst team in the history of ball. Now they're national champions. When you talk about the college football landscape, Ohio State, they didn't win it all last year. Everybody's saying they're soft. Cristobal, obviously, he's going to have to reload after a magical run. How about Oregon? What are they doing? Well, Dante Moore comes back. but are they ever going to be able to really go on a true run? Who's the kings of the Big 12 now after everything that just happened down there in Texas Tech?

12:46Pat McAfee:Is that going to move up to the Mormon land? And then how about the power of 6-5 or whatever? Are they still getting automatic two bids to get into the tournament? Hopefully not. College football has so much magic that's about to take place six weeks from now. Let's make sure we're in the proper mindset. Ladies and gentlemen, what we get to do every once in a while on this particular program is be a part of history. this year we get a chance to be a part of something that is not only good for sport good for world good for country but also good for our neighborhood yeah every once in a while there's some elite superstars that have a little bit of motion ladies and gentlemen it's time for another big time commitment

13:40Pat McAfee:It's a big day for some big names Locking in the play and some big games It's a big day for some big names Locking in the play and some big games Where you going next? Recruiting is like chess Got a 4D if you wanna be the best Announce it on the show Where you gonna go Everybody waiting They all wanna know It's a big day For some big names Locking in the play And some big games It's a big day For some big names Locking in the play And some big games Ladies and gentlemen The man Who's about to make his decision I would like to say Has the most motion Out of any person That has ever come on our show To announce where they are headed over the last couple weeks, I've been around town.

14:31Pat McAfee:Whether I'm stopping at CVS to try to get some milk. Sure. Maybe go down to the grocery store to pick something up for my daughter or baby boy. And the only thing that anybody has been asking me about, not, hey, congratulations on everything. How you doing? Not, hey, Pat, I hate you, which is good to not hear that. Sure. All anybody wants to know is what the Lawrence North Wildcat, number one wide receiver in the country from our neighborhood right here the hell is he gonna do where is he gonna go is he gonna make some dreams come true or is he headed out of state to go on and continue his future hall of fame career ladies and gentlemen joining us now to make his commitment is a six foot five stud lawrence north wildcat ladies and gentlemen munshon showtime Sam yeah this is that long walk this is that long walk this is that long walk whole family, whole team whole neighborhood, how are you everybody we appreciate you guys coming through here we are very lucky and thankful of course, he's huge hi everybody hi how you guys doing?

15:54Thank you for here.

15:57Pat McAfee:It's time.

16:01How you doing? How you doing?

16:05Pat McAfee:Here, if you want to sit in my seat, you can, or stand, whatever the hell you want. I'm with Drew Brees. Okay, okay, you stand. Hey, how you doing, Randy? Great to see you, Randy. You're doing a great job, Randy. You're doing a great job, man. Okay, thank you all for coming. By the way, we appreciate you guys. Hell yeah. This is the Thunderdome, by the way. I don't know if you guys have driven by it. This is what the inside looks like. Manchon, thank you so much for letting us be a part of this. Thank you for having me. Can you tell us who's around you here so we can make sure we represent the entire crew that has gotten us to this beautiful day here?

16:33First off, I want to start off by saying thank you for having us, me and my family. It's great to be here.

16:38Pat McAfee:You think I would have locked your ass up, though, when you came in here? It's my mom, Shanika. It's my godmom, Sinead. It's my sister, Tierra. It's my pop, Ray. my little sister Angel agent DeJuan agent Randy Randy's getting on the shins this morning Randy's been getting on the shins this morning Randy we love you brother I've known your other agent DeJuan sorry that's on me I've known him a long time you know he's a legend around here as well worked for the Patriots for like 19 years went to Las Vegas now he's back in town representing and trying to take care of the next future We appreciate the hell out of you, man.

17:18Pat McAfee:And thank you for your service to Ball, actually. Yeah, yeah, I really do appreciate that. Now, on that note, we can't wait to see what you end up going on to do. We've been hearing about you forever, man. You've taken the state by storm, obviously, and obviously the entire college football recruiting world by storm. Let's talk about how we got to this day. When did you start getting recruited, and how has this entire process been for you and obviously your team around you? I really started getting recruited my freshman year, like towards the winter. I got an offer from Louisville. And ever since then, it just kind of picked up.

17:49I know I kind of always had the size. I just had to work on, you know, my craft and, you know, my team around me, my coach, my head coach, Coach Mal, Coach Ray, Coach Wilson. You know, they with me every day. They be on me hard. They don't let me take no days off. And it's been great, really. I kind of never thought it was going to be like this, but it's a blessing.

18:10Pat McAfee:Yeah, there's no way you can ever expect to be this. And I want to let you know, I never expect the high school kid to be the topic of conversation when I'm going to CVS. It's not supposed to be like that, which means you are an abnormal person, man, which is a good thing. All the greats are abnormal. How's the work ethic? How's the love of ball? We appreciate the hell out of football. We enjoy it. What's your favorite thing about the sport and about your craft? Ball. I mean, ball is really life. I mean, I wake up and breathe football every day, sleep. Every day, everything is football, really.

18:41My craft was really the most important thing about my craft is the little details. not even just what I do. Just like, you know, everybody will be looking at me because I know everybody watching to see what I'm going to do. Just picking up on my effort, you know, every little thing.

18:56Pat McAfee:Well, it's a big day for a big name. Locking in the play in a big game. Family, you guys look amazing. How's the process been? The all-black Air Forces on this day, I mean, that is a message. Straight like that. I assume this process has been crazy for you all, though. Yeah. A whirlwind, I would assume. Could you just kind of describe it as we hit this point in the road that's very pivotal? But also the end, I assume, of a lot of chaos for you guys. But it's a good thing, not a bad thing. Yeah, I mean, it's just a stressful moment for everybody, man. Everybody put a lot of stuff into this and to him.

19:34And the process, man, I mean, that's just pretty much it, man.

19:37Pat McAfee:Well, we appreciate it. Yeah. Genuinely. And our state loves you, man. As you know, everybody is proud as hell that you are in the state of Indiana. Now, we do know that IU is one of the final five. Obviously, that is a crazy thing to think that Indiana University is one of the final five for the number one wide receiver in the world. We're all kind of living in this world now. Texas, Sark, Arch, they're building, obviously. Roll Tide, Kalen DeBoer in the road. Ohio State. Wide receiver, you. Just three hours away. Yeah, but coach. Yeah, he's not there. Yeah, okay. I don't want to sway anything, okay?

20:14Pat McAfee:I don't want to sway anything right now. LSU rounding out the five. Obviously, Lane Kiffin down there, what he's building is special. Five schools, well, four schools that would always be in this conversation. An added school, obviously, in Indiana that's going to be in this conversation forever. If you just want to kind of let the world know where you're headed next, I think there's a lot of fan bases that are eagerly awaiting the fact if they can get Munchon, Showtime, sales into their building. And congrats to all of you before you do this. And good luck, brother, if you want to let the world know where you're headed.

20:46First, I want to thank God. This whole process has been kind of hard, but every night I just talk to God about it, and he's just helped me come up with this. You know, I talk to him every day. He's been the biggest, you know, part of my life. He's helped me come this way. He's going to help me in the future, too, with whatever I decide to go. I would like to thank my head coach, Coach Mal. Thank you, Coach. Thank you, Coach Mal. Go get you one of these. I would like to thank Coach Ray, Coach Wilson, all three of those guys. They'd be on me every day. They'd be on me more than anybody. They're the best role models, father figures I could ever ask for.

21:27I'd like to thank my teammates, too, back home. My brother Carter, Noah, Justin, Des. Boys? Boys? Boys? JT. The whole township really, y 'all kind of put a lot into us. Y 'all feed us every day. Y 'all take care of us every day. Y 'all just be on us every day. Y 'all make sure we get education and everything. I want to say thank you to the whole Lawrence Township and everybody that's been a part of this journey. With that being said, for the next three to four years, I'll be taking my talents too.

22:01Oh, I like that.

22:02Pat McAfee:Oh, I like that. I like that. Indiana University. Oh! Ho, ho, ho! Ho, ho, ho! Ho, ho! Ho, ho! Ho, ho, ho! Wow!

22:19Pat McAfee:Ho, ho, ho! Ho, ho! I just got chills, man. Hey, I just got actual chills. I just got actual chills thinking about that, man. Just as I moved here in 2009. Yes, sir. Okay, in this state, obviously the Colts, Peyton Manning comes in here and makes football a thing. You know basketball, racing, I assume people have been around a lot longer. Football wasn't really a thing. What Signetti and the boys have been able to do down there has ignited, I think, a fan base of basketball fans, of Hoosier fans all around. I think the largest active alumni in the United States of America and everything like that.

22:54Pat McAfee:The fact that the Indiana – I'm serious. I can chill. Who knows where he's going, you know, whenever he comes up here. Legit. The fact that you're staying in Indiana, the amount of pride that this state is going to have while following you, and the amount of everything forever is incredible. Can you tell me why you picked Indiana, other than the fact that you just wanted the state, the township, the coach? Who's in a red hoodie there? Is that one of your teammates who has an offensive lineman right there? The best cameraman in the city. Yeah, that's right. But can you tell me why Indiana? And thank you for doing that for our state, bro.

23:26Pat McAfee:Yes, sir. You know, Indiana was like my second offer, and since then they've just been pouring into me. I go up there a lot, and I talk with Coach Shaney, Coach Eddie, and Coach Sig, they're my guys. They're probably the best relationships I have with coaches. It just feels like home since day one, and I'm just ready to work. We love to hear that. You know, Coach Sig and them, obviously any team that's good, all the teams you put up there, they work their asses off, but also very much attention to detail. I think if Coach Signetti is interested in you, not that you're the number one wide receiver, you're obviously interested in everybody, but Coach Sig likes a specific type of player.

24:05Pat McAfee:He likes somebody that's a badass, that works their ass off, loves ball, but also is elite at what he's been able to do. I think it's a huge nod of respect if Coach Sig loves you. Can you tell me about your conversations with him? And then obviously Shanahan, as you were talking about with Coach Shani, that offense and what you like most about it. Coach Sig is a straight-up guy. He's going to keep it real with you. He's not going to sit there and tell you what you want to hear. And, you know, coming from Coach Mal, you know, that's just what he built into me in high school. So it just kind of clicked instantly.

24:34You know, I don't want no guy that's going to sit there and tell me what I want to hear and just give me bullshit. I want to work for everything. I just want it.

24:42Pat McAfee:How do you feel about this? You feel good? Brother's only going to be about an hour south, hour 15 south. You're going to have to go down there and have a good time. Sound good? You yawning in the middle of that was awesome. Not nervous at all. I never thought, what have we done with this thing? Well, we're so incredibly thankful that you, your team, your family are staying in the state. We can't wait to watch you. Thank you for letting us be a part of it. I think some of the boys might have some questions for you. Go ahead, Convay. Yeah, aside from football, I mean, I was talking to you earlier and I read about it.

25:11Track, like, was there ever a thought like, hey, I should just go represent America and run track at the Olympics? Or was that kind of like, hey, this is going to feed into my football? To be honest, I mean, if you go to Lawrence North, you've got to run track to play football. So it was no ifs, ands, or buts about that. But, nah, I'm not running track. It's different.

25:32Pat McAfee:Speaking of Lawrence North, Olympic bronze medalist, 4x4, Ashley Spencer went to school there. Mike Conley Jr. went to school there. Greg Oden went to school there. And in about, I don't know, what, two years, they're going to say, ladies and gentlemen from Lawrence North, wildcat, Indiana Hoosier legend, potentially national champ. Let's go get another one. The state had a good time. That was a great time. Yeah, fun following that. Yeah, you're going to have to work your ass off for that. We're going to have a good time. And so we're going to need that. Congratulations, and we're so incredibly pumped to watch your journey, and thanks for letting us be a part of it, man.

26:06Pat McAfee:You've done this state very proud already. Everybody in this state holds you in high regards, especially in this new world that we're in because of the amount of spotlight, the amount of tension, the amount of pressure, money, you name it. Everybody would expect you to potentially not act the way you've acted. You've been a gentleman. You work your ass off, and everybody loves you. This state loves you, man. So good luck down there in Indiana, and thank you for letting us be a part of it. And let's have some good days down there. Got it? You're the man. Congratulations. Congratulations. Congratulations.

26:40Pat McAfee:Hey, congrats, man. Good day. It's a good jacket. Ladies and gentlemen, future Indiana Hoosiers.

26:53Pat McAfee:Manchon, Showtime, Sam. Yeah.

27:07Yeah. I know. You know what he told me earlier? It's time to go get a state championship, too. He's ready for that, too.

27:13Pat McAfee:You guys want to float around? Oh, yeah. Get one right here left, though. How are you this year? Are you good? It's on the way.

27:21Mark Schlabach:It's on the way. Like that. Throw it up. Coach knows. Yeah. That was a QB, Coach. Chuck that thing.

27:32It's a good picture. Hold on.

27:36Mark Schlabach:Hold on. Great to meet you, man. Nice to meet you. Congratulations. Congrats. Congratulations. Congrats, man. Oh, I like that. Congrats. Thank you. Hey, go pass. She was yawning out there. She got me. Yeah. I knew it was coming. Yeah, me too. You got slid? Yeah, I got too slow. She does my daughter all the time. She got me. Got my ass big time. I got a clean high five. I know. She was going to say, am I going to get this guy? Oh, okay, okay, okay.

28:10Pat McAfee:See you, team. See you, team. Thank you, guys. Congrats, everyone. That was unbelievable. I mean, that's a squad, huh? Yeah, squad. Let's do one of these. I mean, that's the whole town. Yeah. Whole town shit. That's number one recruit. Thank the whole town shit. Hey, congratulations, team. Thank you, guys. Thank you, thank you, thank you, guys. See you later. Hell yeah, coach.

28:32Mark Schlabach:I like that. Yeah. Go get you one of these, coach. Coach, let's go win one of these. Let's go get you one of these.

28:38Pat McAfee:Let's go win one of these this year. Let's go get one of these. State title. That's right. I like that. I like that. I believe you, by the way.

28:47Mark Schlabach:Can't leave you. Throw up football.

28:48Pat McAfee:Yeah. And also, he smacks. Fills the gap. Played the wood a bit. That was the first thing I talked to him about. Yeah, he plays safety, too. So, I mean, let's not – he's 6 '5", what's that, 190? He might be playing DN by the time he's a junior. I mean, he loves ball. He'll stick his nose literally in there at 6 '5", 190 as the number one wide receiver in the country. Very rare are you going to be able to see him play on the defensive side. Very rare would anybody let him. You know, we don't need you to do that. He loves ball. His team loves ball. And I'll say this. This city, this is literally right.

29:21Pat McAfee:It's like right there. This city. Like four miles away. This city loves this guy. And he's done it all right. If he wouldn't have went to IU, there would have been some real heartbreak. Definitely. There would have been some real, real heartbreak out there from a lot of folks. You talked about CVS. I got so many texts. Because, obviously, we're so close to IU. My wife went to IU. I got so many texts when they found out he was coming on the show. They're very excited. Yeah, very excited. And a lot of the people seemingly knew that he was going to come on this show and do this before I did. Yeah, you got me too.

29:54Pat McAfee:I mean, it was like three, two, three weeks ago before we even go on break. Hey, I heard Munchen's going on your show to commit. I'm like, really? Is that real? Is that happening? They're like, yeah, he's going to Indiana, right? And I'm like, I didn't even know he's coming on my show or whatever. No, like, yeah, yeah, it's happening. So I would like to say just as a person that lives in this state, that's cool. Yeah. Yeah. Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, IU. And for some reason, it makes sense at this stage. But if you were to go in a time thing and go back six years, five years, four years.

30:31Pat McAfee:Three, yeah, yeah. Whatever it is, that would be the most insane thought. Ladies and gentlemen, joining us now, just as we continue to talk about college football, not about what just happened, just college football as a whole, national champion, head coach for the Indiana University Hoosier football team, Paisano, Yinzer, icon, Kurt Signetti.

30:58Pat McAfee:What's happening? Coach, obviously nothing specific just happened, but how do you feel about the culture and the team in which you're building? Obviously, national championship is something that the entire world sees, but there's a lot of work that goes behind that, and there's a lot of traits that you look for in players that end up coming to your particular program down there in beautiful Bloomington. What type of guys do you think you always look for, and what do you think you have going on in the future, Coach? Yeah, you know, that Natty 16-0 hadn't happened in 136 years. Now, how that team doesn't win a certain award as the team of the year, you know, but some networks are consistent in getting it wrong.

31:41Pat McAfee:No, it's not that network. No, it was fan poll. I want to let you know, Coach. I want to let you know. We were talking to Team USA's Kachuk and Charlie McAvoy. Team USA Hockey, both women and men, obviously did some magical stuff as well. First time, long time in Change the World. I found out day of ESPYs that that was online fan polling. And I'll tell you, if New York's involved, I don't know if anybody's going to beat them. Maybe if you were there, Coach. But on that note, Coach, we were talking to your team. You're not beating them, and there's a lot of deserving teams in that. But, you know, that obviously came from the year.

32:13We mentioned this, though.

32:14Pat McAfee:Your team, though. Yeah. What has happened and transformed in 16-0, let alone 136 years in all of college ball, but for it to be Indiana is absurd. But it's because you and your team and your staff, which I know you have a lot of want to deflect for, but you guys bring in the right people. It seems like you very rarely get it wrong. Why do you think that is? And who are the type and what are the type of people that you're looking for to be Hoosiers under you? You know, coaches and players. But players specific, guys that love ball, love the process, want to be coached, have high standards. You know, they're tough.

32:50You know, they can handle the grind and they want to be great and do the things to be great. And, you know, the difference between good and great is just a special discipline, focus, relentlessness and keeping your eye on the bullseye. and, you know, smart guys also. Not only talented guys, but smart guys because, you know, you got a lot of good players that are smart guys. They can do a lot of good things between the white lines.

33:16Pat McAfee:And your defense and offense last year were special to watch. We were very lucky to be a part of that entire run. And obviously we had seen it a little bit earlier than everybody else because we live an hour north of you. So we had been seeing it on local news, what you were building, and we're seeing the highlights and we're seeing the work ethic and we're seeing the buy-in before everybody else. I would like to say thank you because you guys made me look very smart. Now, I have eyes, and I saw what you guys were early, and I was a believer, not only in the team, but a believer in you. I was a believer in you at JMU.

33:45Pat McAfee:If I would have known you were at IUP, I would have been betting on their ass too whenever you were coaching them. But you have turned Indiana into just a common household college football brand. There was a number one wide receiver that was going to commit, and who his teams were, were all the obvious. Texas, Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, and then Indiana University is on there. And as somebody who got drafted here in 2009, has called this place home for the last 17, 18 years, whatever the math is, I don't know how to figure that out because do I count that first year? Do you not count that first year?

34:20Pat McAfee:I've been here for almost two decades. That seems like a pipe dream. Can you tell me about the state of IU right now as a football program versus maybe the first day you walked in? And how much more can we grow? What are the future look like for you? well we've taken it to the top of the mountain so we've proven that we can get there uh you got to start over completely i think we have a lot of work to do in fall camp uh playing a 16 game season you know we had a lot of uh guys out in spring ball so we're anxious to get guys working together for the first time uh newcomers portal guys returners and uh you know i think every team you find out a lot about every day in fall camp and every game.

35:02So I think we got a lot of nice pieces, and that's why you play the games. But that's every single year, regardless of what your record is. And we've got good people. Coaches have been together a long time. I like the guys we got in the locker room. And, you know, we've been successful every year in the past, and I don't see any reason why we can't be successful every year in the future.

35:26Pat McAfee:Well, I Googled it, and, you know, All right, I'm not for it. We'll put that one to bed in the past. You coming in there, though, and being so transparent with all of us after it all happens, and it ends up working. I mean, this is Babe Ruth calling his shot. This is the Founding Fathers on July 4th, 1776, saying we're going to end up getting you. Calling your shot is fun if it hits. You're not kidding. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But if it's done, if it doesn't work out, you're basically cast aside as the biggest doofus of all time. I've appreciated the fact that you've come out and you said, when I walked through that place, everything I was saying, it wasn't just like, for me, it was like, we need a mindset change around here.

36:09Pat McAfee:We're not just participating. We are trying to win this thing. The buy-in from the school, president, AD, everybody has been magnificent. You signing a deal there to stay there when you could have went any NFL, college. shit if you wanted to coach aussie rules football down there in australia they would hire you they ted lasso your ass over in the premier league england now yeah maybe even why why did you decide to go ahead and say this is my home and you did a deal i think that activates something if somebody else signs a deal tell me why you think this is the place you can call home forever as opposed to what some coaches would do which is like okay now we head somewhere else i don't know Maybe I'm a little old school.

36:52The grass isn't always greener on the other side. I really appreciate and respect the people that I report to and like them. I like the people in Bloomington. I think we have everything you need to be successful. My wife loves it here, which is important. Very. Absolutely. And this is sort of my creation at the end of the day, even though it's not all about me at all. I get too much credit. And if we stumble, I'll get too much blame, but I'll take the blame. but, you know, why go somewhere else?

37:25Pat McAfee:And we're happy as hell again. And we still need to get down there and get the putting green. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. And the swimming pool now. I mean, the wife was working on the pool all summer long. You got to see it. And that's the other reason. How could I leave the state of Indiana with a great fan and asset like you guys up there in Indy, huh? You tell me, actually. Yeah, because there's a lot of people that kind of just cast us. I usually ask Marcello's publicist. never mind let's move along you're number one no actually you're number one coach yeah you are that's over

38:02Mark Schlabach:no I think you're still you got a couple of months here

38:06Pat McAfee:until the next national championship don't let the boys take that though we were telling your team and we've been DMing all your players that boys everything was accomplished last year don't even worry about this year Go ahead and move along. I know you're on them. I can't wait to watch your team this year. Tone has a question for you, Coach. Yeah, Coach, third straight year at IU. You're going to have a transfer starting quarterback. Obviously, what you did with Fernando and what Fernando did going from Cal to IU to win the Heisman was unbelievable. Now you bring in Josh Hoover from TCU. He has almost 10 ,000 career passing yards, over 1 ,100 snaps.

38:41How important was it to bring in someone again with experience and experience running a similar offense for you in this team? And why do you think you have so much success with transfer quarterbacks? Well, that's been our recipe really since 2019. Every guy has been kind of a one-year guy. Transfer, they've all been player of the year in the league. So since 19, with the exception of one who was an incumbent or a second teamer. But anyway, I'm not saying that will always be the formula. but I'm not ready to like, if we find the right young guy one day that we think can help us win a national championship as a sophomore, let's do it because then you got him three more years, right?

39:26No, wrong. He's probably off to the NFL then. But Josh Hoover has won a lot of football games, thrown a lot of yards, a lot of touchdowns, was asked to do a lot of things down there. you know we run the ball even with Fernando 60-40 and play great defense great special teams so what we'll ask him to do a little different than what he was asked to do before and I'm anxious to see

39:53Pat McAfee:the kind of improvement he's made in fall camp he can spin it I watched him against UNC down there week one when we thought North Carolina Tar Heels were potentially going to this national championship after one drive you know we're down there for that first drive which is what Lombardi and Belichick are going to be trying to catch. That's going to be what they're chasing for however long until they get there. But we watch Hoover spin it. That thing comes out real nice. That comes out real nice. Now that we've seen Fernando, that thing comes out real nice. Is that a huge piece of your evaluation?

40:22Pat McAfee:Because I said this earlier, but I mean it. I think you, I can say it, you're the greatest talent evaluator, and I know you're going to say you have a team of it. You're the greatest talent evaluator that we have seen in this modern college football. You got a lot of places that spend a lot of money on a lot of players and they don't want to work out. Feels like whenever you have gotten money from your IU alumni, which everybody talks about now, like IU alumni is in there. Yeah, but if you waste that money, that shit's not coming back. You have been able to kind of pinpoint what you're looking for, why you're looking for it.

40:51Pat McAfee:At the quarterback position, Hoover has a lot of similar qualities to Fernando that we have seen, including pretty ball. Normally, if you throw a very pretty ball, it's going to be accurate. Normally, that is kind of what it is. What else are you looking for in the quarterback position, you think? and why do you think your talent evaluation is what it is? Is it just because you're from Pittsburgh and you know ball and went to West Virginia? Well, they all have to have arm talent, be able to extend play, see the field, be a great competitor, and be tough. And, you know, we develop them, I think, only because we're smart.

41:23We don't have a magic wand. We try to give them a good run game, a good defense, and let them know every once in a while a punt's a positive play. And, you know, they all build off early season success. And I expect Josh to do the same thing. Talent evaluation, can't really say much about that. You know, sometimes it's just a gut feeling. I've been around a lot of good people. You know, my dad was a good recruiter, known as Good Recruiter. So I guess at a young age, maybe I was looking at a little bit. But a lot of coaches are great talent evaluators in our building. You know, it's team effort.

42:00and um you know it's kind of like you're as good as your last game you're as good as your last recruit right the first big bust i bring in right i won't be such a great talent evaluator

42:11Pat McAfee:i can't wait i can't wait to be like because obviously you'll be getting killed sick made a mistake here and i'll go whoa whoa whoa let's go back yeah a lot of hits yeah a lot of hits you said there's a lot of good talent evaluators in your building and a lot of good talent evaluators around the league. There's a lot of ass talent evaluators, too. There'll be some buildings with College Game Day. I'll get to walk in, and I'll meet somebody. As soon as I shake their hand, I think that's a turd for sure. How much should they pay that guy? Max. It's like, all right, make some interesting decisions here.

42:40Pat McAfee:I immediately go, I think this place is in a bad spot. Whenever I meet your guys, even at the ESPYs, it was all... They were sitting right in front of us. They were sitting right in front of us. Now, I was supposed to sit at the end. Some seat guy was telling me, sit down right behind Fernando all by myself. I'm sitting with the boys. I'm not sitting by myself over here. Can't be doing that. Should have probably sat behind Fernando, though. Would have given him a big one of these. Couple of these. He. He. Yeah. That entire game. But all your guys, you need to know this. Gentlemen. Yeah. And also, good time.

43:07Pat McAfee:Not like. Tight. Yeah, not a bunch of. Very tight group. And obviously, you'll have that national championship forever. I can't wait to see you guys celebrate that. And let's get another one. Last question for us. Obviously, at the top of the mountain has some perks. And for us, it's good, too. Go ahead, Ty.

43:20Mark Schlabach:Yeah, and I was actually shocked by this, Coach, seeing as how we kind of know you a little bit. you did the voiceover for the NCAA football, the new football game, like the college football game. And seeing as you're kind of a no-nonsense, no-bullshit kind of guy, I thought it was maybe a joke, but then you listened to it, and I thought you did an excellent job. What you were saying in it, though, was kind of talking about how in this day and age of college football, every kid you bring in is looking for something different. How aware were you when you were doing that? Like, oh, there's actually a chance me doing the voiceover to this video game could have like a massive impact or implication on whether or not some recruits or transfer kids want to come to Indiana because you're kind of a forward facing person on that game.

44:08Yeah. Well, I mean, that's the reason we agreed to it. We thought it would be really good for the program, our brand and recruiting because a lot of the guys play that game. So it was fun. It turned out well. and uh so i'm glad we did it it was good hey you nailed it actually you nailed it voiceovers aren't

44:27Pat McAfee:easy because you're you're in a studio i assume you're in a studio on a microphone or maybe down in iu and you don't see what's running behind it you're not talking to a team which you would normally be talking to so it's literally like you're penning a journal or something like that so bringing the juice and the delivery not easy at all and i want to let you know You nailed it. You were the only thing really part of that game that everybody was like, good. So coach, we appreciate that. We'll be down to see you soon, hopefully. Tell the family we said hello. And grazie for what you're doing in Indiana and potentially keeping Indiana's best players of all time in the state of Indiana.

45:06Pat McAfee:You're the man for that. Go IU. Grazie, prego, ladies and gentlemen, Coach Signetti. Hey, coach. I wonder if he knew.

45:18Mark Schlabach:I doubt it. I don't think so. He'll get informed, I'm sure, at some point today.

45:22Pat McAfee:Yeah, because NCAA rules, he's not allowed to say names of anybody that does anything. Now, he can give them$10 million. Sure. Sure. Of course. But can't say a name, though. Not yet. What type of players do you like? A lot of guys are like, ball. Okay, perfect. What about Munchon Sales? Can you tell us? Who? I don't know who. Who? I don't know who you're talking about. What are you talking about? Well, the NCAA said you're not allowed to say his name, but you can give him, I don't know, a whole building if you want. You can't say his name, though. See, that's the shit. So stupid. Why don't they change that right now?

46:00Pat McAfee:Well, there's just so many things that are so stupid, but the NCAA, from our understanding, both talking to Charlie Baker and listening to them testify and doing other things, they're like, we can't do anything, really. But the cheeseburger, that does fall into our thing. saying a name before actual sign that is our thing all the new shit we can't do anything because we'll just get sued so i think the ncaa is like can we get some assistance in like having some power where we can't get sued which i think is this act that they're trying to put through yeah so that the ncaa can be a governing body because now all the ncaa can really govern is all the bullshit that like we all think is so stupid but if they do anything for any of the other stuff, they get sued and they can't do anything.

46:42Pat McAfee:So that's why I think all of us that, and we're saying us, but we do because we're on a daily show and we pay attention to everything. All of us that are kind of in it every single day are like, hey, there has to be

46:52Mark Schlabach:we got to get something going.

46:55Pat McAfee:I know it's not going to be perfect for both sides. Even the people that are trying to make all the guardrails, like, hey, you're not going to get everything you want here. And then for the people that don't want it, agents mostly and the players through the aging someone and everything like that like what they want to restrict how much money we're going to make like what's that it's like i don't think that's what they're looking to do will that be a ripple effect potentially will there be better contracts and more money for more people potentially but that's every cba negotiation that it takes place for everything but it's like when you're in it every day there's just so many stupid things that happen where it's like hey can we just can we figure out something to take care of the stupidity because that that would be about 75 percent of the shit that needs to be handled and then all the other stuff needs to take place on the outside but the ncaa is looking at us like okay yeah we'll do that we make a ruling on this this can't happen anymore and then six lawsuits come they sit in front of a judge the judge says actually ncaa you have no grounds to say anything like sweet what this burger though yeah yeah it's been for the season yep you can definitely do that ncaa you can definitely showcase that you have some sort of power in that world but in this whole new world that is much bigger grander more important and potentially more devastating to the sport you have nothing so we just showcased one more thing that's like so stupid but we need some sort of something so we can get to the next step but i think we're on our way there yeah we are and it's all so wild um but with all that i'm so excited to see sig playing these waters now because he's been playing in the under, not under-talented, but guys that were overlooked.

48:33Overlooked, yeah. Yes, overlooked, and then quote-unquote over-performed. And he did a lot with guys that had the stats and everything in college versus maybe the potential. That was kind of his route. Now that he's getting five stars, I can't. And it's weird. He's bringing in, obviously, with Monchon out of high school. But Nick Marsh was the wideout from Michigan State who's come in and was very, very highly recruited. He's doing it at certain positions, mostly wide out and DN, and I think those are probably the most important positions to have just absolute freaks at. But I'm excited to see Sig start playing in these waters, and they're going to continue to be good.

49:08They did lose some talent last year, a lot of it on the offensive side of the ball, specifically with Mendoza, but they have like seven starters coming back on defense with Brian Haynes, who that defense was absurd last year. They're going to continue to be very, very good.

49:20Pat McAfee:Yeah, that defense with Haynes, they were on a string, actually, and we saw some of them at IU or at the ESPYs, And they all had blockheads, too. That is something I think Sig does look for on defense. What's the shape of his head? Does that face look like a fucking home plate or not? It does. All right, now how does he play? How much does he cost? Does coaches like him or no? Coaches like him. He's got the blockhead? Yeah. He's like football? Yeah. Who? Who? Who? Who's yours? I think that's what he's looking for on defense. aside. But they all had to be smart, too. Spagnuolo of the Chiefs, a couple years back, whenever the Chiefs' defense was leading the charge, Spagnuolo did an interview, Super Bowl press conference, I think, where he said, normally on a defense you'll have three guys, three, four guys that are really smart and have to guide the other guys.

50:11Pat McAfee:If you have a good defense, you have three, four guys that are guiding everybody. You have them all at different levels. He said, our defense has 11 of those guys. All 11 guys. Seattle Seahawks defense, Legion of Boom. 11 guys. All defensive quarterbacks, basically. They're all super smart. Very rare that you find that. Patriots for a long time. They'd have three different game plans on defensive side. You need super geniuses, all 11 positions. Sig's defense, Haynes' defense. Yep, very much so. Very similar to that. Matt Patricia over there at Ohio State, very similar to that. So a lot of people say, like, are the schemes – they were asking Matt Patricia, the schemes you were doing different than in the NFL oncology?

50:45Pat McAfee:He's like, not really. Well, then why does it look like such a different thing for you? He's like, well, I'm giving a lot more freedom, but we need the geniuses out there so we can disguise and cover. And in college, it's very abnormal to have 11 because you're still learning ball. That defense last year was on a string. They were making checks without talking to each other. They were seeing – they look like an NFL defense. Now, granted, they were a little bit older. Not that everybody they were playing wasn't older. But that is a huge deal that seven of the 11 are back there because four – if you have seven on the same page, four not, that's still better than most other folks.

51:16Pat McAfee:Nowhere near what they were last year, though, where all 11 were dancing at the same time. Everybody talks about Fernando, as we should. More people should talk about Fernando. And Dan Orlovsky, how's that all going, Dan? How's that whole pre-draft thing going that we were talking about? Took his lap. Just how does that kind of taking a knee on stage? Holy fudge, man. How are we sitting right there? The offense was certainly awesome. Omar Kupadro, Elijah Surratt. I mean, we saw the boys literally the other night. Fernando, they all looked amazing. Offensive line won player of the game. Coogan won player of the game for the Rose Bowl.

51:47Pat McAfee:It's like they had two running backs that were just out. I don't want to miss anybody. Everybody, you hear what I'm saying? No, Kosky. Riley, no, Kosky. The defense, though, was the reason why. They gave up like 10 points a game. Yeah, the defense was the reason why they won a national championship. It's also the reason why we, people that knew Indiana from early in the season, were like. Remember the Ohio State game? That was one of the best defensive games, both sides of the ball, that we've ever seen. Yeah, and obviously Ohio State's defense has 11 guys or whatever, 10 guys go. So this Indiana defense, when it's all said and done, the number of people that were drafted as well, there's seven of them left.

52:21Pat McAfee:Who knows what? We'll continue to keep track of it. They were the reason why I was such a believer. Like, hey, yes, Oregon. Should they beat Indiana? Maybe. In theory, they should. But from what I've seen, Fernando doesn't miss. Cignetti's going to have a good plan. And the defense is real. First play. As long as they can. Exactly. And that becomes the entire story.

52:43Mark Schlabach:And then third possession down in the they forced to fumble. Their defense won the Peach Bowl 10 minutes into the game.

52:50Pat McAfee:Yes, it was over. It was cool to watch them, especially because we're in the state. Obviously, we have a lot of ties to the Hoosiers. My wife, obviously her family. He's talking about your wife. It's like Hoosiers are everywhere around here. They kind of weren't allowed to be loud other than Little Five. We've got to get Little Five. What's the Midnight Madness thing they have? Yeah. A Midnight Madness thing that's cool. Maybe there'd be like an old school Bobby Knight trailer that'll come out. Good stuff. That's awesome. They didn't really have a lot to get loud about. You know, they didn't have a lot to get loud about.

53:23Pat McAfee:Basketball team hadn't been there in a long time, even though they were certainly investing in basketball a lot more. Basketball coaches were just coming and going. Team never really represented what the state wanted it to represent as. So IU fans were everywhere. Good boozers, good vibes, good businesses and everything like that. This football team has ignited them all to be like, yeah, we are here. and that certainly helps in the NIO era. Certainly helps. And you brought up a good point there, being a part of that game. That's a great idea. You want me to be the person that kicks this entire thing off?

53:54Pat McAfee:Who plays this game? He's on the cover. Who plays this game? Oh, every high school football player. All right, I guess I could. Connor asked Munchon before the show. He said, you game or anything? He goes, yeah, I play NCAA. He's like, that's all I do. So, yeah. Yeah, I think it's a pretty good little thing. And also the speech he gave, he wrote clearly. Yeah. And it was awesome. It was very good. All right, let's talk about some other things happening around the sports world. During the break, we all watched Michael Strahan talk to Chris Johnson, CJ2K. And I think we all – I was kind of blindsided by it.

54:32Pat McAfee:I think I didn't even hear the rumors. I guess there was rumors happening. And Chris has been on the show. So Chris, East Carolina, saw him through there, saw him at the Titans, obviously, in the AFC South. Chris and I, for some reason, we talked. We'd dab each other up four games. And I was such a huge fan with everything he was doing. And you're talking about one of the greatest athletes of the ball. They could ever exist. You're just super explosive, super tough, took a lot of hits, got the ball a lot, was rolling. So whenever I turn on that interview, whenever I hear Chris Johnson, I was intrigued.

55:06Pat McAfee:What is Chris Johnson up to? Like, I had no idea. We're on vacation too, kind of checked out. When I turn it on and I see it, I'm like, oh, my man. Like, I think we're all very devastated. I think we're all kind of dumbfounded by it, but we're also reminded about ALS in that moment, about how long ago was the first big one? I think like in the 50s, 40s.

55:30Mark Schlabach:Yeah, Lou Gehrig's was in like, yeah, the early 40s.

55:33Pat McAfee:40s, there it is. Very public. Everybody talks about it. So from then until now, we still don't have any, and they're saying it's sporadic. 90 % of the time it's just sporadic. So we don't have a lot of information. I guess there's probably been a bunch of research. We don't have a lot of, still don't have a lot of anything. And I heard Chris's wife, I believe, say, we're still praying for a breakthrough or whatever. So I think that led all of us to be like, all right, well, how do we, you know, kind of, I think a lot of ex-NFL guys are like, hey, how do we kind of help this entire thing? So obviously the ice bucket challenge comes back.

56:04Pat McAfee:I said I was going to donate$250 for the next 1 ,000 people that do it,$250 ,000. We're going to donate towards research. I hope everybody else jumps in on the CJ2K Ice Bucket Challenge, ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. But I do appreciate the hell out of the Tennessee Titans. They're going to be honoring. Put them in the ring of honor. Now, obviously, I assume they think that they were going to do that later. Like Chris Johnson, obviously one of the greatest of all time. Let's remember that this is a good story telling us. We have no idea what's going to happen tomorrow. Let's try our best to enjoy the hell out of the moment.

56:32Pat McAfee:Let's try to help people out. Let's remind ourselves to tell people that we love them. And I appreciate the Titans doing this. Obviously, this is going to be inevitable. But I can't wait to celebrate the hell out of Chris. And hopefully, somehow, someway, we found a breakthrough in this to help the entire society. But Chris, we love you, brother. We absolutely love you. It was an honor to watch you play football. And we will continue to be allies in the research towards ALS. All right, hour one wrapping up here. Manchon goes to IU. Sig feels good. Oh, our two have. As you know, managing maintenance, repair, and operations is never easy.

57:35Mark Schlabach:You know, when you're locked in focused and fearless, welcome to the WNBA, your vision narrows. You can't look away. Every assist, every stop, every logo three. Every, did you see that moment? What records are going to be broken this season? All of it right here. Lock in. It's the WNBA on ESPN all season long.

58:10Pat McAfee:Sports! They're amazing, aren't they? Yeah. This week we got to celebrate sports a lot. Monday we're at one of America's greatest traditions, the Home Run Derby down in Philadelphia. Get a chance to talk to the absolute greats in the marvels of their sport. Watching them hit big dogs. 75 in that first round was really nice.

58:34Mark Schlabach:Yes, it was.

58:36Pat McAfee:Shout out to Jordan Walker coming on the program the day after. He's going to get paid a lot of money. He's on the final year of his contract. He was making$799 ,000 this year. With the amount of games they have, he was making$1 ,400 a game. Pretty much. And then he wins$1 million as he hits six straight home runs to wrap up Monday night's home run derby. It was awesome there in Philadelphia. Then Tuesday, we head over to the ESPY's Lions to kind of celebrate all that is sports for two days. the amount of people we got to run into from so many different backgrounds, so many different sports, so many different eras of sport.

59:11Pat McAfee:You can't help but think to yourself, man, what a beautiful thing sports are as a whole. So many great qualities, so many life lessons, so many unique stories that all come together around the same thing. Grit, mental toughness, a little bit of luck, and inevitability, legacy. What is your legacy in sport? Are you somebody that gave back to the game? Did you change the game? Or were you the game? Some of the people we saw at the ESPYs, they were the game. That's right. It was time.

59:45Mark Schlabach:To play the game.

59:47Pat McAfee:Whenever they. Played the game. It's time to play the game. Yeah, exactly. Sorry for my brain not to do that. I know. As soon as I start saying that. What I'm saying is on this Feel Good Friday, heading into a major weekend with the World Cup deeming its world's best this weekend. Let's remember that although American football, the best sport to ever be created, is certainly around the corner and not happening right now. It felt so good talking about it. Sports will continue to contribute greatness for everybody, and we will continue to celebrate and enjoy it all. We are so incredibly lucky that we get to do this for a living.

1:00:22Pat McAfee:In the first hour, we got to see the number one wide receiver in the country come in here with his entire school.

1:00:28Mark Schlabach:Yes, yeah.

1:00:28Pat McAfee:Unreal. His entire neighborhood and community were here. And watch him announce that he's staying in Indiana and going to IU. And then you just immediately, I got chills thinking about it whenever he said it. I'm like, holy hell, this guy's going to Indiana University to play football. He's from here. This state loves him so much. Think about the amount of pride this state is going to have for the next three months. And then when the season starts, we're the national champs. You go ahead and do that. Sports do that. The thought of sports do that. And it's our job to celebrate. Talks at the table is here at Boston Corner and at Ty Schmidt.

1:00:56Pat McAfee:One half of the hammer. Dad. Cowboys AP Tone. is here, Tone. The Open is taking place over there. Royal Berkdale. They got no air conditioning, but they seemingly have some low rounds. Got some good golfers. What's the story of the day and what should we be looking at this weekend? Especially if you want to dab a little bit on DraftKings. Now available in all 50 states. Yeah, the story of the day was in the early round, the morning round, as the guys went off. Lucas Herbert and Sam Burns both shot 62s. There's only been 7 62s in major championship history. That is the record for lowest major rounds.

1:01:30Six guys in total and those two both did it this morning. Herbert shot a 28 on the front nine, which is just absurd on pace for 56 and it was an unbelievable round. He's out of live. Not one of those guys that you would expect to do that. Sam Burns is more of the guy who you would expect to do it. He's top 15 in the world. He's placed high in majors things like that. He actually hit his 62. He chipped out of the sand here of a pot bunker next to the green on 18 to shoot his 62. People were very mad because they only showed about three shots of his all morning long. Herbert is now your leader at eight under.

1:02:07And you talked about these guys going low at 62. Yes, they did, but they didn't play well yesterday. So the leader, Herbert, is still only minus eight behind him. Cam Young is at minus six. He shot back-to-back 67s. Scotty is shitting at three under today. He's off now. Rory had a nice little round to probably make the cut this morning. There's still some big names up there. Scotty, I would assume, as I was looking right now, is probably still your odds-on favorite. He is. He's plus 400, followed by Cam Young and Lucas Herbert, and then Bryson at plus 900 right now are your live odds. If Scotty's anywhere within five shots, six shots, maybe even seven shots, he's going to still be your odds-on favorite.

1:02:47So that's where they're sitting at right now.

1:02:49Pat McAfee:Okay, we will always bet on Scotty and hope that we see Scotty of last year show up, which is just absolutely take over Saturday and Sunday. And it's like a Tiger Woods-type chase in the weekend. Not that Scotty hasn't done that. Let's remember, he's got like 15 top fives, a couple of second places. He's won already, but everybody's saying, he's kind of lost the same Scotty. It's like, he also had a baby, right, earlier? Yeah, he did have another baby. Yeah, so there's a chance, you know, that Scotty is all the way back to being Scotty after missing a cut last week and getting a chance to get over a roll barked out early and get a chance to prepare a little bit for this.

1:03:22Pat McAfee:He's never gotten a chance to do that. So I will bet on Scotty until further notice. A couple 62s in the morning, though, special. Because these tournaments are supposed to shoot ass, right? The rough is supposed to beat the hell out of you. The bunkers are supposed to be impossible to get out of. The wind is supposed to be not easy to deal with. And it seems like other than the heat and the dryness, the other factor is kind of not there. Might see some showcase rounds of golf this week. Yeah, they always talk about the U.S. Open is going to be hard because of the rough and the tiny fairways. Augusta is what it is.

1:03:52But the Open, these courses are normally defended by the weather. They're defended by the wind and the rain and the fescue. The fescue, we've talked about it earlier in the week that the fescue is so dry and the course is so dry. And the wind is not very bad right now. You can see it, but it's not like typical open wind. That course is gettable, even though eight under through two rounds isn't too bad.

1:04:13Pat McAfee:No, it's not too bad at all. That's what the leader is. But if the boys are starting to get the course a little bit more and they don't have a weekend defense system. No. Look out. Look out. I mean, the boys are only going to get better and better over there, especially as it gets closer and closer to crunch time. That's when the greats show up. And that's also whenever the known greats fall. Joining us now is a college football national champion, Super Bowl champion, Ryder Cup winner. Ladies and gentlemen, a man who could win the Open this weekend, fresh off of his great rounds, over there at the American Century Championship.

1:04:43Pat McAfee:Ladies and gentlemen, A.J. Hawk. Yay, Hawk! Hawker, Ohio State didn't get the number one wide receiver in the country again. Sorry. How do you feel about it? Yeah, I'm shocked. Real shocked. I mean, if he would have came in there with his crew and everybody and not gone to Indiana, that would have been a bit of a situation, I believe. So I had a hunch. I'm thinking, I'm guessing he's going to Indiana. But, hey, unbelievable player. I love the fact that he's playing safety. Is he going to play safety his senior year, too? Okay, A.J., this is Big Ten. Ohio State Buckeye asking if the number one wide receiver in the country who just committed to Indiana over Ohio State is thinking about dabbling maybe on the defensive side of the ball.

1:05:22Pat McAfee:Hey man, why don't you go play a little Mike Linebacker, bro? No, no, not like I'm saying in high school. I love and respect when a dude is the number one player in the country and he's playing safety and coming down the box and laying dudes out. I respect it. I think it's awesome. 6 '5", hitting like that. Hold on. Just even a defensive player. 6 '5", 190. 90 not gonna see him helmet down like going it this dude's an absolute this is what signetti said about players he likes not him directly he's like gotta love ball man gotta love ball and i asked him about ball and he's like football is life man that is i wake up and do it and then you saw um dad coach uh behind him i forget exactly called him coach also said uh father figure so i don't know the exact title black air forces okay so we all know at this stage of life what that means coach over there blockhead round body yeah just high school football exactly you know like that guy is they all love ball and sig looks into all that like hey does this kid love ball well let's put on one clip of him playing defense oh yeah he's going helmet he's trying to thump guys and he's not bigger stouter than them and he doesn't have a lower center of gravity than them because he's six foot five he is built up to not tackle well right he's he's built to not tackle well unless he's an edge yeah trying to get to a quarterback where he's like blindsiding any straight on stuff a six foot five skinny guy bad spot he is in a bad bad position punters find themselves in a spot where they're very tall and thin and every returner could run them right over if they wanted to.

1:06:59Pat McAfee:So the fact that he signs up to do that and goes head down into it just tells you about his mentality. But I'm thinking he's not playing defense this year, but he also said he's not leaving the field without a state championship. Exactly. This guy might be kicking for them as well. We have no idea. Yeah, and might need him to play every single position. But Andy said in there, too, like, hey, I don't want to have a coach that doesn't, like, shoot me straight. Like, I don't want to hear what I want to hear. No, he wants a coach that shoots him straight, not doesn't shoot him straight. Sorry, yeah, exactly.

1:07:24And that's kind of what Sig's entire thing is. and felt like from the fists that were being thrown in the air from his high school coach, he's probably the exact same way. Like, that type of player is maybe a little more rare than what we were, you know, back in the day it was. But, yeah, I'm excited to see what he does.

1:07:41Pat McAfee:AJ. O-H. Oh, no. You know, because Indiana right here, you know, hey, that's a three-hour drive to Columbus. And obviously this kid's from Lawrence. He is an Indiana hero and everything like that. Any other time of college football, that kid's going to Ohio State. Right there. Munch on. Without a doubt. He's going to Ohio State. Watch a block here. Oh, he's not getting the ball. He's probably patting, especially in high school. Bro. Yeah. Yeah, I don't think so. I'd say he's going to get some time early when he joins the Hoosiers. He'll be on the field pretty early on, I would imagine. For the next three to four years, okay, I love that line just becoming synonymous with the decision.

1:08:24Pat McAfee:But any other time of life, I would assume he is headed directly to Ohio State or potentially Miami, depending upon it. The fact that he's staying in Indiana is just absurd. And it is a little bit of a message to Big Ten football about how Indiana is staying.

1:08:40Mark Schlabach:Yeah, Diggs alluded to it earlier. We talked about this a bunch after they won the national championship. But it was no joke. When I was in college, when I was at Iowa, same deal with AJ. He was playing against them. It was a little bit different. but I would sell my tickets to the Indiana game before the year because it was just like I was going to beat the shit out of these guys. So we'll just go tailgate. I'm not going to do all that. And like Dig said, they've been killing it through the transfer portal, but this is kind of the broken seal. This dude's the number one receiver in the country, and I understand he's from here, but he probably didn't grow up an Indiana football fan because they'd never been worth the shit.

1:09:18Mark Schlabach:You know what I mean? So that part of the equation is completely out of it. So the fact that he wants to go there to play football, not just because I'm from Indiana, it's close to home. Now, that might be part of it. But if they're starting to get guys like this, like you said, Indiana's not going anywhere. So they'll continue to do what they do in the transfer portal because Sig is such a good talent evaluator. But now if they start getting these five-star guys to take visits and look up to a guy like him and be like, hey, the number one receiver in the country went there, why can't I go there?

1:09:50Mark Schlabach:This could kind of start that.

1:09:52Pat McAfee:Uh-oh. Oh, H. Oh, no.

1:09:56Mark Schlabach:I don't think they have anything to worry about, but I think it's some of these other kind of— You've got a couple good receivers on the roster already.

1:10:01Pat McAfee:Yeah, now you do. Okay. Oh, you're saying the future. Yeah, I mean, that's a real thing. Yeah, this is what I'm talking about. The future of fucking Big Ten football is what I'm mentioning right now. Yes. That's why I'm saying O-H. Oh, no. Not because you missed out on Mun Sean, who— This guy's the one. I think this is— Are you okay over there? I don't. i don't think so okay okay okay got it i mean tone has almost died over there a couple different times i hope you survive welcome back i'm talking about this is like a real and then signetti's on the video game it's i think indiana has now all of a sudden become a superpower and big i know big indiana's become a superpower in the big 10 but so many easy come easy goes like you know clemson was on top of the world florida state was on top of the like there is a lot of that feels like indiana has real staying power for the future i think that's good for the big 10 inevitably honestly and for strength of conference and everything aj but that does have to be a little bit alarming potentially for those in the big 10 who are used to a circle check circle check i don't think that's a real thing and who knows who's next and who's the next indiana is there i don't know man i mean it's possible for it to happen i guess but i don't let's see like i could see his team jumping out maybe for a year or so but like the fact that like Indian has been able to do it in a follow-up the way they did in 16-0, all of that, that's the most impressive to me.

1:11:22Pat McAfee:Yeah, and it feels like they're only just getting started.

1:11:25Mark Schlabach:It's not another sig. That's the thing. It's like the money part of it, sure you could, because I think we talked about this with like Virginia, like the dude who started Reddit. You know, he decided he wanted their women's basketball team to be good, so he gave a bunch of money, and guess what? They were good the next year. But like the other part of that is like they have Kurt Zignetti and no one else does.

1:11:44Pat McAfee:Yeah, because I can already see it, can't we all? College game day? Somebody went through Syracuse or Northwestern? This is how you do school TV thing? Who's this year's Indiana University? Who's this year's team that was the worst in the history of football that will go on to be the first undefeated football team since 100 and some years ago? Who's it going to be? And it's going to be hard not to just be like nobody. Nobody's going to be able to do that ever again. Football is such a game of so many key pieces coming together in being able to operate. And the fact that they have – I think that's a big deal.

1:12:21Pat McAfee:Sig would deflect, but you need the right one at the top. I'm not saying other schools don't have it, but to accomplish what they accomplish, you need a unique unicorn. And I think just acting like – You need to pick right, though. Sorry, I hate to cut you off. You've got to continue to recruit the right quarterback as well. That is a huge part. That's why Sig is very, very good at that. And when that quarterback is playing at a high level, you always have a chance to win it all. Which is why I will kind of put a pin on this particular point. Just saying who's the next one, I think, is a pretty crazy expectation for anybody.

1:12:54Pat McAfee:Because talent evaluation is also part of it. Sig is the best. Motivation, Sig seemingly, one of the best. Like people are talking about hiring him to go operate businesses because of the way he speaks. His leadership style where he delegates and doesn't really get involved too much. The drama, the expectation, the accountability. It's like, okay, who's the next one of those? I don't know. Who's the next fucking Michael Jordan? Who's the next Serena Williams? Is it fair to just assume that there's going to be a next whenever you're watching something that's never been done before? I have no idea.

1:13:27And it feels like that's what they did last year going into the year because it was like, hey, Indiana, they made the playoff. They're not going to do it again. Who's going to be this year's Indiana? And now, to all your guys' points, Indiana has staying power. They're not going to compare. There's not going to be like, who's the next Indiana? It's going to be like, who is the team that could possibly make a run? Because that run that they've had the last two years is damn near is kind of unrepeatable.

1:13:50Pat McAfee:Joining us now, I think. I don't know how you – there's so many things you have to get right.

1:13:54Mark Schlabach:And you mentioned it earlier. What are the odds if someone who does do that decides to stay at the school and doesn't just say, okay, fuck this, as soon as an SEC job opens. Like, I just proved this here. I'm going to get the hell out of here and go coach there.

1:14:04Pat McAfee:Joining us now might be the guy that could do it somewhere.

1:14:06Mark Schlabach:Yeah, maybe.

1:14:06Pat McAfee:I don't know if he's going to get offered the job or if the current job that he has is going to let him go. The most prolific rider ESPN has, ladies and gentlemen. He's good. A damn good dog. And he's currently sitting in England in no air conditioning. To break it all down for us, ladies and gentlemen, Mark Schlabaugh. Yeah, Schlabaugh. International Schlabaugh. Hair looks the exact same as three days ago. Good to see you, pal. How is it over there? Early rounds going real low over there in Royal Birkdale. Yeah, pretty benign conditions this morning. uh lucas herbert of the uh ripper gc of the live golf league thank you shoots a 62 eight under uh and then 10 minutes later sam burns who wasn't even supposed to be here throws up a 62 winds blowing a little bit harder this afternoon and the temperatures are supposed to break but uh the struggle is definitely still real okay so you talked about brown course potentially turning purple this weekend a lot of heat a lot of dryness and you also did talk about how I don't think we're going to see a big swing in the wind.

1:15:09Pat McAfee:You talk about the early rounds, maybe in the morning, people in the past have taken advantage of the weather. We saw it. Who went wire to wire there just last? Wyndham Clark. Wyndham Clark. He had a Friday afternoon with no weather, took advantage of it and then just kind of carried it all the way through the weekend. And a lot of people were talking about that. It feels like it's not going to be crazy weather this weekend, right? We were chit-chatting earlier the way Tone described it is normally these Lynx courses have the weather defending it to make it harder. Feels like the weather not bad at all for them this weekend.

1:15:37Pat McAfee:Should we see some people go very, very low throughout the rest of this tournament? It's blowing a little bit harder. They called from Gus like 20 miles off the Irish Sea, but they haven't come. I'm looking Bryson is birdied two out of the last three. He's hit it halfway to Scotland off the tee, but managed to somehow get it to the green. You got a bunch of names up there that won't be around on Sunday, but you've also got some guys like Cam Young, Sam Burns, DeChambeau. If Scottie can get some putts to fall, he could be right there in it. J.J. Spawn won last year's U.S. Open. So you've got some guys who've got a ton, but you've got a ton of guys who haven't been in this position.

1:16:17Pat McAfee:Okay, should we see an electrifying weekend? I mean, regardless, it's a major. We should think that. But back-to-back 62s here, and there's only been seven of them done, twice by Xander Shoffley. That sounds like somebody who wants to get a major on a Saturday or Sunday waking up and going like, are we going to see a 61 this weekend after we've already seen two 62s here? We should have saw a 61 today. I mean, Herbert said he just it was a five-footer. He had a great look at it. He said he had it going inside left and just misread it a little bit. But yeah, we'll see. I mean, there's some guys up there capable of doing it.

1:16:57Burns, he didn't even decide to come until on Friday. His wife gave birth July 3rd, and his agent just threw him in the field for the hell of it and said if he shows up, he shows up. The guy gets off the plane on Monday and throws up a 62 and shots 73 in the opening round. So a lot of SEC up there too, Pat. Bernsie from LSU, Bud Cawley, Roll Tide, Cootie, Francisco Molinari's up there. I legitimately thought the guy was dead. I thought he was dead. I didn't even know he was still playing. he's a fight yeah no I mean he's like an assistant captain on the Ryder Cup the European Ryder Cup team but it was like 2019 that was the first big major I recovered for ESPN Tiger wins the Masters coming off the back surgery and Molinari was like a ball striking machine that entire weekend had been all season and he hits one in Rays Creek on 12 hits a pine tree on number 15 blows up and I'm serious the dude just vanished like he was never that great again but here he is still doing it wake up 57-69

1:18:09Pat McAfee:he was a machine seven years ago I hope you get a chance to go chat with him man just say wow what an awesome surprise it's good to see you you're still alive and doing it I assume he might have a little bit of a journey to get back to this point that might be a good story for you to write at some point and you can even start it with I got on TV as the expert, okay, the one that everybody's supposed to take serious, and said, I thought a guy was dead. Turns out he's in a tournament playing well, and then you get into the entire story. Because I assume if he did blow up and vanish, and now he's back, there's been some deep conversations with self standing over golf ball over the last few years that you can certainly describe better than anybody else.

1:18:51Yeah, another guy to cheer for on the weekend, Marcus Punkett. went to West Point and gave up golf for five years while he was serving in the Army. Picked it back up during COVID because he couldn't do anything else. Like he said, he shot 65 first time out with his dad and then played on a Corn Fairy Tour last year, lost his car, just playing over in Asia right now, but he's a one over, which was right on the projected cut line, so he could be here on the weekend, which is a really cool story.

1:19:23Pat McAfee:I'm Marcus Plunkett. Hope you have a good one out there. I hope you'll win it over there, actually. West Point guy went in in England. That'd be sweet. Yeah, we'd like that. Tell him we'd like that, Schlabaugh. And I do like seeing a lot of SEC at the top of that golf thing because it's not on top of football. Oh! No dogs up there, man. Low dogs are going to be like eight over. Yeah, it was tough weekend for the dogs. Yeah, but I do think you guys should think about just locking in on golf down there in the South. A bad move. You know, especially with number one wide receiver in the country. Did have LSU and Texas up there.

1:19:57Pat McAfee:That's why Alabama was up there. He's like, let me go to, you know what? Give me Bloomington, Indiana. That's where I want to go. You know that? Kirby took a receiver out of Indiana a few years ago, and unfortunately he drove like his first name, Nitro. I think he ended up there. What is the water down there, Mark? Let's stay off of that. That's everybody. But they do need to chill out down there on those roads. Yeah, big time. I'm about sick of reading about it, and I'm about sick of like, How are we supposed to talk about you all doing the same? We have to cover this at some point. We do cover it.

1:20:29Pat McAfee:Slow the fuck down, please. Can they believe that we need that? Or just commend the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, which seems to find everyone out. They do. They do got great eyes. They do. They got great eyes down there. Yeah, they pick and choose on where to hang. But we all need to be safer down there, definitely. I'm sick of reading about it. Now let's get back to the major, shall we? Go ahead, Tom. Yeah, Mark, the 62s were the story of the day. But Cam Young, back-to-back 67s, maybe playing the best overall golf of the tournament so far to get to six under. He obviously has not won a major championship yet.

1:21:06How do we feel about Cam Young going into the weekend? I believe he's finished second at this major before, maybe twice actually. But how do we feel about Cam Young going into the weekend? Can he finally get his first major? Yeah, definitely finished second behind Cam Smith at St. Andrews in the 150th Open a couple years ago. He's had a great year, won the players early, picked up another win. I think he and Sam Burns and a couple other guys are probably the most talented golfers that haven't won yet, haven't yet won a major. He knocks it a mile, like I talked about when I was on earlier in the week.

1:21:42Rory talked about that double-inch sword and the rough being so dry and so wispy, it's allowed some of these big hitters to really cut corners and take advantage of it. I mean, we've seen Rory drive number nine twice now. I think he had a 377-yard drive today, and he didn't even think he was going to be able to hit driver on that hole. But, yeah, if Cam can make some putts, he's definitely going to be in it on Sunday.

1:22:08Pat McAfee:No, go ahead. I wanted to pivot to another American golfer that could potentially be in it that we haven't seen him forever. A.J. Hawk has a question for you, Schlaba. Yeah, I don't know if he's going to be in. I know you said the projected cut line is plus one. So, Jordan Spieth, last I checked, he was four over. I know he struggled with the putter for sure. I saw earlier, like, where is he at? Is he head? Yeah, that's another guy. You think, Schlaba? Yeah, you know, he had a press conference earlier this week, and he said he didn't think, like, his game was that far away. And I don't know. I mean, it's – They're saying he three-putted from three feet, 11 inches.

1:22:44Pat McAfee:Yeah, it was bad. It was like from four feet. Yeah. And one here in 2017. I mean, he's super talented. You know, the talk, and I'm not smart enough to figure this stuff out, but, you know, apparently he was one of the greatest field players of all time is what people say before I was around. And then now they're saying he's too analytical, that everything's about the track man and everything's about numbers and statistics. And he's become more of a robot. whether or not that's true i don't know but uh whatever's happening right now is not working of course he probably needs he probably needs to get rid of the blade putter too okay yeah move to a spider 2y banana x uh putter it's very good but you talk about somebody that's a feel person so i was in the kicking punting world and there are some guys that are just feel guys like janikowski is maybe the most notable feel guy he just kind of backs up a couple steps feels and goes and that works for norm most people for a while greats it works for a while but inevitably there's going to come a moment where your feel is a little tight where something happens where it's like a big moment and you fall back on your fundamentals i was a big feel guy big feel i'm fucking feel i dropped this thing wherever the hell i need to drop it then you get into a big moment and it's all of a sudden like all right what am i trying to do here uh okay i think if i do this so you got to go to work on the fundamentals i assume there was a moment where he was feel where the started getting a little tight and he's like, I got to get into something that has like a basis behind it.

1:24:09Pat McAfee:So in a big moment, I can have something that is a reasoning for why it works. And if you get too far that so hopefully you'll be able to come, you know, you got to be able to, you got to come back. You got to be in the middle of the slow ball. You got to meet that in the middle. So why don't you go tell him easy fix would be, hey, let's get back to feeling a little bit, buddy. Let's get a little feel out there. Let's have some empathy. Let's have some emotion. Let's have some touch. Let's go ahead and let them hips kind of work. Slab, why don't you do that for him? Why don't you tell him we need to get a little bit more feeling with those analytics and in those big moments if we want to go, well, Stint's 11.2 if I am just laughing.

1:24:43Pat McAfee:You can have both. That's what we're looking for, Slab, Ball. That's what we're looking for. I think I'm neither, Pat. I think you're a field guy. Just by the way I look at you, I think you're a pretty big field guy. I'd assume you get to a wedding on that dance floor. I assume there's a little bit of a schlaw ball all over there. You know what I'm talking about? I got two left feet. The dance instructor threw me out of my dance recital, my dance lessons before my wedding. I'm going to have to get, my daughter got engaged a couple weeks ago, so I'm going to have to get better here soon. I mean, you could just keep that thing right here.

1:25:23Pat McAfee:Easy box step. Yeah, exactly. I mean, you need info. Connor's got it, actually. Connor's been a part of like 14 dance recitals over the last couple weeks. He can kind of help you out there a little bit. And I can tell Schlabaugh just by looking at you. And I mean, you said your daughter there. I don't know how many kids you got. You got hips, bro. You got hips there. We know you got a little action in there. You talked about Spieth talking to the press and doing that. There's another guy that you said could potentially win this thing. Also, one of the odds-on favorites to win this thing at plus 900, I believe, is what he is to win the entirety of the major, which would be very abnormal for the modern times.

1:26:00Pat McAfee:Go ahead, Ty.

1:26:01Mark Schlabach:Yeah, Mark, you mentioned Bryson there. He's currently, I think, four under T5 right now. 620, plus 620 now. Plus 620 now. There you go. So odds are moving a little bit. What have you noticed from him, whether it's his body language, his demeanor? Because I know we talked about earlier in the week, he's got all new printed clubs right now. But this does look like a different guy than we've seen in the last three majors. So what have you noticed from him? Do you think he is going to talk to the media now? and what realistically kind of shot do you give him to go out and win this weekend? I mean, he's at 500 right now.

1:26:34He's tied for fourth. I walked seven holes with him, seven or eight holes with him on Tuesday. Tried to talk to him. He wouldn't talk to me. We broke up. It's him, not me. I think it was you. I think it was me. I think you forced him. How does that go, though? How does that go? Do you yell at him from behind the ropes, or how does it go to where he doesn't talk back? he was signing autographs for kids and I give him credit he does that a lot more so than probably anybody out here but I walked up and said hey can I ask you a couple questions while you're signing he said I'm done talking to you guys so I waited I waited we had another conversation I'll keep that between us but we'll see where it goes

1:27:14Pat McAfee:I like that he doesn't have an obligation to talk to the media and if he's pissed off at Brandel Chamblee or Nick Fowler or whoever and he wants to lump everyone together, that's his prerogative. But going back to his question, he has a brand-new full set of 3D-printed irons, and iron play had been holding him back in the first three majors. His short game was terrible at Augusta, but he's hit the irons really well. Everything on Tuesday he hit close when I was watching him. He's attacking this course like we talked about earlier. He's cutting corners. His angles and, you know, loft, it's nuts how high he's hitting it.

1:28:00The angles he's taking and he's taking – but he hit one probably deep, waist-high rough earlier today and, you know, could barely find it. So I think he's playing with fire a little bit, but he's right there in it. It would be nice to know what his irons are called. he could probably sell a few million sets but yeah he definitely needs it he certainly needs it um

1:28:24Pat McAfee:and maybe if he wins with this we will find out immediately afterwards that the d chambrough ones are the club of choice for any future major champion maybe though and he talked about him saying i'm done talking to you guys maybe this is just what he's decided is his mindset to become a better golfer maybe he does need enemies maybe he does want to you know be a little bit of a heel with you guys maybe he does want a little bit of the juice love like i I think people go back and tell our story that we certainly needed enemies throughout moments of it. You go back to other athletes at high-end thing, they're looking for a reason.

1:28:57Pat McAfee:So this might just be his decision on what his mindset is going in, and you just so happen to be the motivator for him. You and all the media people are the enemy that he's maybe needed to play his best golf. Yeah, I mean, he's not talking to me, he's 5-under. He's missed the cut in the first three majors, so it's obviously working right now. I know you journalists love getting credit for stuff. You guys should maybe start angling that. I'll tell you what, he's decided that he wants to go to war against us, and now all of a sudden he's playing golf better than he's ever played. So maybe this is our championship alongside his championship.

1:29:30I'll claim it. I fired his ass up on Tuesday.

1:29:38Look, the dude's got to have a lot on his mind. I mean, Liv's looking for money and may have to fold. and he's looking at a lengthy suspension from the PGA Tour if and when he wants to come back. Like we said, I've talked about before, he may just go to YouTube golf and be fine with it. See, this is you doing it. What I see, was it Grant Woods or Redwoods or something was where he was at? Yeah. Redwoods, those big trees. The last video. Huge. Big trees. He's out in California somewhere. But no, I'll say it again. I said it when I was here earlier this week. I liked the guy. I think he's fascinating.

1:30:14a lot of the people in this room don't he moves the needle he's a good quote and he's got a weird personality

1:30:24Pat McAfee:is Mike Tirico in that room? I haven't seen Mike over here I would assume I don't like a lot of the people in that room either so you know other than you that is the way it goes Connor has the last question for you international slob block obviously the wind isn't seeming to be a factor. The course is playing real easy. Are these greenskeepers just going to step it up and be like, you know what, we're going to put a pin right next to a sandbox and see what happens? Or what's the deal here with this weekend? Should we expect like 20-under to win it? No, I don't think it's going to be 20-under. They've been tucking them.

1:31:02But I think they're right on the razor's edge of losing them is the problem. And I guess they say there's some combination of fescue and Bermuda or Bent, but they look more like Poana to me. So, I mean, they're dry. They're dry. I mean, they're splotchy already. I mean, one of the marshals earlier this week, I don't know if I told you this the other day, but one of the marshals told me that they're about out of damn water from the well, and then they have to start paying the city, and apparently the city water's expensive as hell, so they're just going to spray the tea boxes and the greens. Whether or not that's true or not, I don't know, but I just said it on your show, so hopefully it is.

1:31:42Pat McAfee:Well, you thought a guy was dead who's currently in contention. Now we don't know if there's enough water to water the course over there for a major, but whatever the case, no air conditioning, no water. Sounds just right for the best golfer in the world to find their way to the top of the Open at Royal Barkdale, also known as International Schlauble's Home for the last week. We appreciate you, brother. Safe travels back to America, and we'll be following along all weekend. Have a great weekend, guys. Thanks for having me. Hey, what's that coming down the track? And he's out. That was awesome.

1:32:18Pat McAfee:Still plugged in. Could definitely hear that.

1:32:21Mark Schlabach:Fuck that, whatever.

1:32:23Pat McAfee:Not sure. Shlaba's the best, dude. Yeah, DeChambeau, I guess, because he hates a couple other guys, we all get lumped in there. I wanted to follow up. You've been really nice to him on the air? I say he's fascinating just yesterday. I said just yesterday, the guy's fascinating. I like him out here. They did kind of break it down on the broadcast today. He did give an answer yesterday after the round. He used the word strategic like 17 times. Nick Fado had said potentially that his strategy wasn't great, so it did feel like he was taking a specific shot. But also, AJ, this is like, you know, different athletes use different motivations.

1:33:01Pat McAfee:Like this is obviously he's coming in this week. one of the mindsets was fuck these people and that was just like his way of getting himself ready and now he's playing his best golf right now so i don't love whenever you know like obviously the journalists are not going to be happy that he's not talking to him but it's like this is what he's doing so why don't you talk about this being maybe a part of why like there's a reasoning also on the course for why he's doing this it's just like in press conferences when a journalist asks a question and they don't like the answer that they give, so they try to do it 100 different times.

1:33:35Pat McAfee:It's like, hey, that's the answer they gave you. Run off of that answer. You know what I'm like? I think there's always just like an upset about it as opposed to like covering what is actually happening. You know, it's like, I think Schlaba will end up doing that. But I think this was definitely DeChambeau's mindset going in is it's us versus literally everybody out here, except for the fans. Fans like us, we'll talk to the fans. But everybody else out here, it is us versus the world. that was probably strategy then coming into the tournament to play his best golf and i think that kind of gets lost in like the we feel disrespected thing it's like yeah he would like you to feel that is what he is yeah driving him right now like it's giving him a lot of motivation there's a lot of motivation in that now you can't i don't think you can live at that at all times but i think there's definitely times when it will absolutely drive you and make you do the things you don't want to do with the fact that you just are super pissed and frustrated at a certain group or whatever.

1:34:31Right now it's the media for Bryson it sounds like.

1:34:33Pat McAfee:You just got to wonder what's going on with the burn bags. That was crazy. That was crazy to listen to. Yeah. I couldn't imagine the anxiety. They're still burn bags. What does that even mean? Have we ever heard that before from a situation? Good luck to all parties out there. Hope to find out everything that will happen in our world. joining us now ladies and gentlemen is a man who is that would be crazy to hear if you had specifically put things into something called burn bags we need to get these it's in the title what needs to happen and then all of a sudden you hear what years later so yeah still got him the amount of oh my god that must have been happening what does this mean to that was a crazy that was a mind-blowing evening i must say i there's no there was nothing on you know so i'm just sitting out there i don't think that was on the main channels either right which has happened in the past i looked that up there has been other decisions that have been made in the past to do certain things okay now granted what being talked about being talked it was a last night was a fascinating evening and what we would like to say we hope all the people much smarter than us which actually i don't think they actually are but the people put in positions to do these we hope you guys get to the bottom ball of it that's right for the good of our country we're kind of we're kind of all forced to kind of deal with whatever you guys do so yeah let's let's go ahead and do that you know i hope everybody comes together one time i think so they will they will that's my first time hearing the title burn bags though the old burn bags yeah bury the ball you know what guys need if you have bad game you burn that fucker.

1:36:22Pat McAfee:You got a burn ball right over here. Good idea. Or a burn pit right over here going on. Put that thing in the burn bag, actually. And let's make sure we burn that. Let's actually burn that one. That'd be crazy. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a man who doesn't need any burn bags because all he does is send burns to different countries whenever he's talking about the world's game. Ladies and gentlemen, from CBS Sports Galazzo, our World Cup pundit, ladies and gentlemen, Michael Grella. Grilla! Boys, what's going on? Good to, thanks for having me. How long was your break? You guys are back already?

1:36:57Pat McAfee:Yeah, thank you. Already. It felt like the break was very long. Had a great time. Couple weeks. We are back in the Thunderdome. It is an honor to be here. And I'll tell you, Grilla, a lot of us are saying something that we never thought we would say. We're missing World Cup games whenever they're not on at night. I don't love not being able to just see two countries I didn't know exist play against each other in a sport that I very rarely watch and actually being invested in it. This World Cup has been spectacular for the sport. We talked to Reamer yesterday. Obviously, he wishes it would have went well.

1:37:27Pat McAfee:We all wish it would have went well. But now we're down to, you know, a third-place game, which...

1:37:33Mark Schlabach:The big deal.

1:37:34Pat McAfee:That sucks that they have to play in that. They have to care, too, because there's a lot on the line. Reamer told us, you know, world rankings on the line here. Obviously, a lot of pride on the line. A lot of these guys potentially, who knows, not Harry and Mbappe and Jude and the Stars, but who knows how many more international games. some of the world cup games are going to happen so obviously want to win as opposed to lose and then all eyes on sunday whenever we have argentina in spain and that baby photo obviously from jamal and messi from the unicef thing 19 years ago is absolutely absurd it is uh it makes you question a lot of things actually whenever you go forward but we don't need to do all that what are you looking forward to this weekend how we should uh should we be viewing both games and World Cup as a whole.

1:38:20Pat McAfee:How's it been for you? So just kind of open canvas here for you to kind of paint the picture for us on what we should be looking forward to here this weekend. Pat, you started out playing soccer, so did I, and basically we tried to make it to the World Cup, and obviously we did it. But, like, seeing that picture doesn't make me feel so bad because I was not bathed by, you know, Ronaldo or Maradona when I was three. Yeah, or McBride or Alexi Lawless, Tony Miola, Kobe Jones, you know. I mean, it makes you wonder. there. There's so many questions here with why and how and what's going on in this picture, but I guess it's true.

1:38:52I mean, that's what they're telling me, that it's true. So, we'll see. It's the greatest of all time. I've upgraded Messi in my lifetime standings to the greatest of all time. Above Maradona, above Pele, above R9 for sure. I mean, R9 and definitely above Cristiano Ronaldo if he even makes the top five these days anymore. The third place match, I'm not even watching. I got better things to do. It's going to be kick around, waste of time. And the final, though, will be one of the greatest games we've seen in a long time. And it will also be probably the most watched sport in this country and all over the world that day, well into the billions.

1:39:31So ultimately, this country, America, has done a great job putting FIFA and putting this tournament on a very high platform, and they delivered in a high way. So really proud of that, obviously, because there's a lot of murmurs that we're not going to do a great job, but we did do a great job at it. And now just looking forward to this unbelievable matchup in Spain, Argentina.

1:39:51Pat McAfee:Tell me a little bit about this matchup. Obviously, if England was to get in there, that's bigger, you know, a little bit bigger lads naturally, I think, from just where they come from. That's kind of how it's going to be. A little bit more physical game. Should we expect that from here? Obviously, Argentina was with the shits too with England. They weren't just like, you know, scared. They were actually hitting England a little bit, kind of big tree fall hard, kind of chipping away at them. Spain not really like that, right? Spain is we're passing, we're flopping, we're dancing, we're doing that type of stuff.

1:40:21Pat McAfee:How should we expect this game to go? And if you're A.J. Hawk, football meathead, who has started to really like soccer going through this World Cup, is he going to hate what he's going to see on Sunday? Because people that aren't super soccer purists maybe don't love that style of play. What style of play should we expect, you think? Let's start at England since we started the conversation with England. Let's start there. I came out and said England are not going to be very good. I don't know how they got to the semifinal. Just like Australia caught a bunch of heat from that. You know, it's a shame because I think as an American speaking about soccer, and they don't really know that, you know, I grew up very Italian in my household, they just right away write you off.

1:40:56But I called England from a long way away. And, you know, in this game, when you analyze it, you've got to have a good nose and good eyes. You know, you've got to see well and you've got to smell good. And I knew England were never up to the task of stopping Argentina. Argentina, by the way, are a bunch of paisans, Pat. There's 20 million of them down there. Half of the team's Italian. Leo Messi's got some Italian blood in him as well. Leonardo. Nice clay, Borrella. Hold on.

1:41:23Pat McAfee:How many? Well, the Italians didn't make tournament. Cape Verde's got 10 ,000 people. Yeah, Cabo Verde. That's what I'm telling you, Pat. Half of us are in the final, actually. We did make the tournament. Well done, Borrella. Oh, because we're taking Lou Messi as an American, too, because he's on Inter-Miami. So if the Italians are claiming him and the Americans are claiming him, it sounds like we're normally on the right side of winning, right? Isn't that kind of what? No, actually. Not the Italians. Actually, the Italians have got a good big history.

1:41:52Mark Schlabach:Yeah, they kind of had their hands tied for a couple of those.

1:41:54Pat McAfee:Yeah, nobody talks about it. In a way. Anyways, let's move on to the Italian-American-Argentinian team. Okay, that's coming along. Yeah, so the Argentines, they're like brawlers, man. They're tough guys. They're dogs. Would you compare them to the Ravens, like back when the Ravens were really good under Ray Lewis? Just like really physical, powerful, really street smarts. With the football, they're not great. They don't have a lot of pace. They don't have a lot of big names. The biggest name in the wild card, which just so makes it really hard to analyze, is Lionel Messi. At 39 years old, I had him downgraded coming into this tournament.

1:42:28What he's done now is just blowing everyone's minds. I mean, the details in what he does. when he sticks his ass out and knocks Kane over, it's like top-level stuff. So he kind of puts them in the conversation. Everything's gone through him, all the assists, all the goals. I think he's got eight goals and 11 assists in the tournament, so directly, you know, four assists in the tournament, so directly impacts the game. Spain, you may not like the way they play if you're a neutral. There's a lot of intricacies. There's a lot of complexities in the way that they play. they're kind of a suffocating team.

1:43:04They take their time with you. It's kind of like a death by a thousand paper cuts where Argentina will be more rock and roll. I have Spain as the overwhelming favorite in this one, unfortunately, but then again, then there's Leo Messi. And this guy's an alien. He's from another place. We haven't seen anything like him. We won't see someone like him for a very long time. And compare him to Yamal, who's on the other side of this. He's supposed to be his predecessor. He's supposed to be the next best thing in the world. He's got one goal this tournament. Right. So that's sort of the comparison, you know, eight goals versus one.

1:43:33He's sort of been a piece in the Spain team where Messi has been the entire Argentina side. So this is going to be really interesting. You see the odds. They're really, really close. But Spain are a little bit more polished. Argentina, a little bit more the back alley brawlers.

1:43:46Pat McAfee:You just talked about a guy who I think if you're not a regular soccer watcher or whatever, you're not going to know because he's so young. And obviously, I think we saw him in the Euros, maybe when he was 17, we watched him and he kind of came onto the scene. it was like holy hell this is the guy and then now you know coming into america there was a couple different streets down in tennessee or wherever they shut down to see him now he could walk through walmart nobody had a clue who he was you're right okay so all these soccer fans doing the biggest okay i understand that they are very famous they come through indiana they can walk right down Broadway, which we don't have.

1:44:27Pat McAfee:Could walk right down... Meridian. Yeah, Meridian. The Canal. Whatever. What's the Broadway? That place is dead. We need to bring that place back.

1:44:36Mark Schlabach:Not safe.

1:44:38Pat McAfee:Okay. That doesn't need to be broadcast. Could walk right through there with a name thing above them and people would be like, oh, hey, welcome to America. Must be like a foreign exchange student or something like that. So there is a lot of that. But I do think even those people have been tuning in. to watch these games because how spectacular they are. You talk about the amount of people watching it. Soccer has done really good stuff here in America during this World Cup. Obviously, Team USA having successes, but all the stars playing well, seemingly huge for any sport. And the 19-year-old has become a sensation.

1:45:10Pat McAfee:But what have we been seeing, Ty?

1:45:12Mark Schlabach:Yeah, girl, listen. I mean, I've heard all the song and dance about you, you mean Lamal. And I've seen him, you know, courtesy of Gump, I've seen so many of these highlights. He is unbelievable, but I've come away from a lot of these games feeling like we've been sold a false bill of goods because he just doesn't do a goddamn thing. He's not putting the ball in the back of the net. On the other side, you've got Lou Messi. That son of a bitch is either going to score multiple times or he's going to have multiple assists in every game.

1:45:40Pat McAfee:And that's not even getting into how long. Yeah, exactly. Listen, if you're going to walk around, that's okay. I didn't know this many people walked around. And by the way, you know me as a kid. Blaine, I should have been doing that a long time ago. Probably. My knees would be much better if I was. I mean, I was 200-some pounds in high school, you know, so that's a heavy soccer player. I should have been walking everywhere. I didn't know that was an option. You know, I didn't know. The best players in the world, walking all over the place. But Haaland, walking his ass all over the yard, score.

1:46:10Pat McAfee:And then they finish. Messi, walking all over the place,

1:46:15Mark Schlabach:doing everything. And then he finishes.

1:46:17Pat McAfee:Your mom, I'm watching this guy walk. I'm like, he's 19. He's just walking around everywhere. and then it's like, well, we haven't seen him really put together maybe.

1:46:24Mark Schlabach:Exactly, because Gumpy has been saying that he has been hurt and now it's coming out that he hasn't been in training the last two days. How big of an impact will that be if he's, I mean, who knows what percent he is in terms of playing on Sunday, but if he's not full go, how much can that kind of turn the tables maybe in Argentina's favor? It does a lot because, and I agree with you for starters, he's been underwhelming. He's coming to the tournament with a little bit of an injury, but no excuses. He's here. Spain is undefeated with him in the lineup. I think it's like 37 games or something like that.

1:46:56So think about that. He has never put on a Spain jersey and lost when he's there. So he does affect the team, although he has been underwhelming with one goal.

1:47:05Pat McAfee:Hey. Yo. This is the greatest player of all time, guys. No. He was in a little bathtub with Messi 19 years ago. Yeah, they do. What do you think of him as a player, Grello? So we cover him all year in the Champions League, and he's blown my mind with some of the stuff he does. And Pat, and you guys all know this, even in football, the biggest superstars are the most efficient players, right? The ones that don't run, the ones that understand the spaces, the ones that don't turn over the ball a lot, they understand risk-reward. Yamal, he turns it over a lot, especially this tournament. So he tries things, and it doesn't work, and he hasn't had that extra step that he usually has.

1:47:47So he's looked like a regular player a lot of the time where, like, if you watch Messi, there's no fat on the bone. Like, there's nothing left on the bone. Like, it's so clean and it's so smart. So he's not at that level yet. But, you know, when he burst on the scene and won the Euro, I think we were chatting actually on the program, like, two years ago. And we were talking about Yaman. He was 16 years old and he blew our minds. So he is coming in with a little injury. It's been underwhelming. But without him, Spain are not as good. I'm sure, I'm 100 % sure he'll be there because there's a lot of money on the line.

1:48:18Even if they have to shoot him up with some stuff for the weekend, FIFA themselves would shoot him up. So he'll be there. Messi will be there. And it's going to be fireworks.

1:48:27Pat McAfee:You know, FIFA, from our understanding, fair and square. Yeah, I thought that was right. Right down the middle with everything. Guy gets a red card. Let's talk about it. No, he didn't actually.

1:48:37Mark Schlabach:No, he didn't.

1:48:37Pat McAfee:He's playing. That's a big, we like that.

1:48:40Mark Schlabach:Yeah, England guy gets a red card. He's out two fucking games. We don't want to hear anything else about it.

1:48:44Pat McAfee:We like that. See, these are things. They're debated. VAR, just 10 minutes later, says, actually, you did dive. Yellow card, red. You're actually out of here. That's how that's been. That Egypt goal? No, never happened. We kind of like the way soccer's doing it. You know, like if we were on the wrong side of it, boy, we would have been allowed. Could you imagine if some Belgian fuck would have got a red card? And then they would have overturned it. And then he's playing against us. Trump might actually want to shut down the stadium. We're not playing. You guys know Trump and Infantino are like this.

1:49:19No, we don't know that.

1:49:22Pat McAfee:He's got a lot of world leaders, he said, that he's friends with. I heard the response there. But if Belgium would have had one of those overturned here in America, there's no way that game's taking place. I would have never watched soccer again. We would have been so mad. I'm watching some of the shit that's happening in VAR, them just going back in time. It's like, actually... The Egypt one was insane. And the person's going, what? How about the one with the chip in the ball that knocked out Croatia? They said that the chip in the ball detected that touch of the hair. And then the other night, it hit the line of the sky can.

1:49:59And they're like, nah, it didn't detect anything. What a load of bullshit. No!

1:50:04Pat McAfee:No! Remember, we benefited from this stuff. So we like it right now. But if I was anybody else in the world that got screwed over by the way this whole soccer thing works, I could see there's some pissed off people around the globe. Maybe a billion of them. Hey, Pat, what did you think of the U.S. game? Okay, so Tone actually has the last question for you here, and then you can kind of lead into that. Yeah, it was awesome. It was a great game, girl. Thanks. No, but if Potch does not come back, if he leaves, are we dead? Like, how far does that set U.S. soccer back, especially the men's national team, the one that's going to be competing year in and year out for CONCACFA titles, obviously, and then the World Cup in four years.

1:50:47But on it, like, how far does that set us back if he leaves? It doesn't set us back at all. I mean, we've got money, right? And if we're willing to invest, we can always bring in a world-class coach. I mean, for me, Pochettino's brought in to move the needle for us, and I don't think he did in the end. What? And you know what's the same? Because Pat mentioned – what's that?

1:51:04Pat McAfee:You don't think he moved the needle? I didn't know you were a potch hater. I mean, with all due respect, I think I could have went in there and did what he did. Guys, guys, let's put this into perspective. He was brought in to move the needle, and we lost like eight out of nine to European teams. And the shame is, and Pat, you mentioned this before, is so many neutrals, AJ, and so many guys, guys wanted to buy into this. This country wants to buy into this game so bad, And we need a buy-in if we're going to be any good in the future, in the next 10, 15, 20 years. And that game was the biggest buy-in of all time.

1:51:40And we shit the bed in a bad way, man. Because I'll tell you what, you can lose a football game, but you can't be scared. Americans don't have that spirit. Americans are brave. Americans play with everything they have. And that performance was not good enough. That was a scared performance. That falls on the players. That falls on the manager. And for me, that's not acceptable enough. And listen, as long as we're willing to invest in the game, we could always bring in top class managers.

1:52:04Pat McAfee:Pep's available, right? Yeah. Pep's out there. Good luck. Why not? Sir Alex Ferguson. Sure. He's available? Sure. Grello's available? Benjamin Franklin gets the job done. You know that.

1:52:17Mark Schlabach:Sig?

1:52:19Pat McAfee:Yeah. Coach Cignetti could potentially pick up the World Cup team, or the United States men's national team, just on his side. Yeah, you never know. Possibly, Grello seemingly said, I could have fucking lost in the first round. We'll go get Juergen. What are we even talking about? We beat Australia. You remember my thoughts on Australia? Okay. Paraguay was a good win, though. I'm going to have respect for that. Paraguay was amazing. And that's the one that blew our mind. That's the one that made us go, hey, listen, what do we got here? We got something here? And then all of a sudden, they played against Belgium.

1:52:47And we were like, wait, I know. I know these guys. I know this. All right.

1:52:50Pat McAfee:Ladies and gentlemen, this is CBS Sports Gilazo, legend. See you, boys. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. Michael Corrella. Yeah, Corrella.

1:53:01Mark Schlabach:God damn. He was caught around.

1:53:05Pat McAfee:Ladies and gentlemen, joining us now as we wrap this up with our... Okay. Never mind. He's not on. Oh. I thought he was like kind of... Smoking meats? Smoking meats. Someone's. Breaking news. Rap sheet. What it do? Yeah, we'll have him join us for the digital version of the show. Obviously, that'll continue on YouTube, ESPN +, Disney+. We can't thank you all enough for allowing us to do this for a living. We'll obviously be back on Monday. There'll be a new major winner. Or will there be a repeat major winner? Who'll be the World Cup champ? Who'll get third place? That's the question. More NFL teams will have people in buildings doing things that matter.

1:53:48Pat McAfee:Sports are the greatest. We're so incredibly lucky. AJ, anything you say to the people before we get out of here? No, I hope everybody has a great weekend. Be your friend. Tell your friend something nice. It might change your life. Goodbye. That was A That was pretty good AJ was about to put his hand Yeah he was Yeah he thought I did I was you know I'm always I like being on a team Team yeah I know And we like that you like being on a team Team guy Big team guy I'd say Is it You remember when he just got that grilled turkey burger At that place Oh yeah At McGee's At McGee's yeah Which is the inspiration for the How I Met Your Mother bar That is correct

1:54:23Mark Schlabach:Which we saw Also in Ryan McGee's family I believe

1:54:26Pat McAfee:Really I did not know Don't tell me about my heritage exactly I saw that on a placard downstairs behind the bar we were a little boozed up though that place promptly told us to get the fuck out of here as soon as that soccer game was over that was an incredible place How I Met Your Mother photos everywhere in that place I've not watched How I Met Your Mother I assume it's great I like old buddy that was on back left what's his name? I like him a lot

1:54:51Mark Schlabach:I like him as well

1:54:54Pat McAfee:Dougie Houser was on this side and then the guy that was in that vampire movie Jason Segel. Jason Segel. Yeah, that one. He was all the way over here. Dracula, sorry. Vampire movie? Yeah, he wrote a vampire movie. Yeah, Dracula's Lament. Awesome. Awesome. It was a musical, actually. He's a phenomenal writer, that guy. And also the one with the doctor.

1:55:12Mark Schlabach:Yeah, Dougie Haas or MPH. Neil Patrick Harris.

1:55:14Pat McAfee:Nope, Jason Segel, the one with the psychiatrist.

1:55:18Mark Schlabach:Oh, Shrinking. Great. Oh, gotcha. Shrinking, so good. Unbelievable. Harry Ford.

1:55:23Pat McAfee:Yes. First TV show ever. There it is. everything that guy is a part of, I think is good. He's a town. I think he's very, very good. I saw him as a younger version of him, I guess, now I met your mother, all over the place. And I showed up a little bit later and they're like, this is the bar that inspired the bar. We Googled it. Congrats, McGee's. Thanks for having us. Anyways, they're a pub bar. There's Chef, who knows what he's cooked before

1:55:49Mark Schlabach:and how great he is. It was good food.

1:55:51Pat McAfee:But it's a lot of

1:55:54Mark Schlabach:Classic bar fare

1:55:57Pat McAfee:What's the driest worst thing you guys got here Oh I gotta go off menu actually I'll give you a Turkey Slab Done deal Took it off the bud Put some ketchup on there I played for the Bengals for one year Every day I went in there I said Give me four of your turkey burgers Make them beautifully on the plate Just throw a little ketchup on there and eat them. It was the best. You had a little turkey steak. I'm not using a knife. You don't need a knife to cut a turkey burger. Come on now. I'm pretty tall. Four of them, you're probably, I mean. One at a time. One at a time. Oh, you're not stacking those things up like flapjacks?

1:56:38Mm-mm.

1:56:39Pat McAfee:Like a lasagna? Yeah, you should have. Trying to enjoy it, you know? Like a loaf? Take my time. That is enjoyable. Yeah.

1:56:49Maybe if I have like 45 seconds to eat four of them, then I would

1:56:53Pat McAfee:Oh, you're saying that's a little militant what you're doing there? He took his time Because in my head, those things were stacked up on top of each other like syrup on pancakes with the ketchup You know what I mean? That's what it sounds like, yeah No, that's red gold you guys are using Yeah No, no chance Joining us now is a man who loves Red Gold, somehow over Heinz. Red Gold is a great Indiana company, by the way. I would like to let that be known. Are they? I do appreciate them chasing the dream. The dream, Heinz ketchup.

1:57:26Mark Schlabach:No doubt.

1:57:27Pat McAfee:Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a man who has a new title. That's Worldwide Leader. He's junior NFL insider for ESPN, senior NFL insider for NFL Network, friend of the program with a weekly wrap-up with Rap Sheet and friends. Us being a friend, he being a rap sheet. Ladies and gentlemen, Ian Rapoport. Yeah, Rap Sheet!

1:57:46Mark Schlabach:What's up? What's going on?

1:57:48Pat McAfee:Turkey burgers, you stacking those things four high, putting that ketchup right on top of that thing, cutting it like it's a lasagna or a cheesecake or something with different levels and diving right in? What would your move be there? I'm out on turkey burgers.

1:58:01Mark Schlabach:they kind of tell you like it's like this, just like hamburgers, but much more healthy. First of all, not that healthy. Second of all, not good. If you want turkey, you get like a club or something, like a turkey sandwich. A little roll, a little tomato, maybe some bacon. If you want a hamburger, be a regular person and get a hamburger.

1:58:18Pat McAfee:Or a bison burger, which is actually a great and a little bit leaner alternative. Yeah, but certainly if you want to be a normal person, get a cheeseburger, not a hamburger. But I do like us going back in time for those who are allergic to milk. Are you allergic to milk? No, I'm not You're gluten free, I'm looking at you You gotta have one of those things No, I eat it all I eat the whole thing Here's another thing

1:58:43Mark Schlabach:Here's another thing I want to mention You mentioned Jason Segel's Incredible resume Shrinking, which I know you mentioned Is so freaking funny I never laugh out loud at anything There are some laugh out loud moments You should invest in that show, it's excellent

1:58:58Pat McAfee:Yeah, I agree, it's a good show I think if that guy's writing it and doing it, I think it's going to be good. I think we can probably just bang it. Until it's not, and everybody's going to say, this guy stinks, he's never done anything. What's his name? Yeah, Roy King. Yeah, he's in it and also wrote it. Unbelievable. He writes a lot of stuff. Yeah. Hey, thank you, people that do that stuff.

1:59:20Mark Schlabach:I appreciate it.

1:59:21Pat McAfee:We appreciate it, obviously, team stuff. All right, Junior, let's talk about a weekly wrap-up with the Rap Sheet and Friends. You being Rap Sheet, us being friends. You're in a car. Thank you for wearing your seatbelt. Thank you for doing that. No problem. You've got to keep it safe. Big day. You know what's happening right now, right? Nope.

1:59:37Mark Schlabach:Visiting day is tomorrow. Whoa. Wow. Seeing the kids. Yep. Let me go see my kids quarterly. Not going to bring them home. Just going to see them for an hour.

1:59:45Pat McAfee:Not going to bring them home. Four hours. It's going to be great. I've got bearded down. Taller than you. Yeah. So probably some growth. Maybe some beard puberty situation. What are we expecting? How long has it been since you've seen them? Been three weeks.

2:00:00Mark Schlabach:We've gotten some pictures, so we know they are having fun based on the pictures. And there's Max right there. Whoa, that's sick. Dang.

2:00:09Pat McAfee:Wow, that's a fun thing. Okay, I like good banks right there, too. He looks pretty comfortable. Looks confident, too. He's crushing it. I like him saying, let me get out of my dad's house. Let me go learn how to do some stuff. Yeah. Get out of here. Let me go absolutely kill it. I appreciate it. Wow. What are we doing here?

2:00:26Mark Schlabach:The dude, that's the other one. Dude. Doesn't look great at that.

2:00:30Pat McAfee:Wearing his Bass Pro hat. He's getting ready to check his watch right there. I can already see he's about to check his watch. Okay, so it's been three weeks. Do they get normally excited to see you, or is it kind of a drag that the parents have come through? I think they're excited.

2:00:45Mark Schlabach:The weird thing is, is like you haven't seen him in a while, and then it gets back to normal so quick, and then you chit-chat, and then it's like, all right, parents, get out of here, and then you just see him again in four weeks.

2:00:54Pat McAfee:So for me, when I go home, if I have to leave, So let's say, come home, go to work, but I have to leave that night for somewhere. And I'm only going to see Mackenzie for 45 minutes. Obviously, love doing it, but boy, it makes... Oh, yeah. Yeah. Like, what you're going to do right now, I think, is probably a pretty, hey, good to see you, super excited. And then, well, actually, I don't know with how it goes in your... But I think in our world, it might be a little bit of a... Now you get a second time of letting them go, you know, as like...

2:01:27Mark Schlabach:Yeah, a bunch of kids. My kids generally don't, but some kids, they cry. It's hard. They always plan something really awesome after the parents leave. They need a fresh load of tube socks coming in, and then you guys can get out of here.

2:01:47Pat McAfee:Good luck to everybody out there. Good luck. Have fun. Tell Max and Jude we said we miss them. We hope they're enjoying themselves. So this is the annual 14-week camp that the Rap Sheets send their kids to. And I never heard of that growing up, but I guess it is something that is normal in places. And we hope you enjoy it. We hope they get great connections. We hope they have a great offseason. And we hope you get a chance to have a great summer. Let's talk about the weekly wrap-up with Rap Sheet. Kamaru gets a deal done in New Orleans. Felt like he was very persistent about never leaving. They bring in, obviously, running back, A-chan.

2:02:25Pat McAfee:Travis A. Chan from the Jaguars. Did we say his name right? It was at the end.

2:02:29Mark Schlabach:He changed it to A. Chan. Okay, yes.

2:02:32Pat McAfee:Thank you. That was months ago. He comes into New Orleans as a great running back. And we all go, ooh, what does this mean for Kamara? Everybody gets excited for the opportunities for Kamara because of how dynamic he is as a player. And Kamara came out many times and was like, nah, I want to be here. I want to be here. They get the deal done. Why do you think this was so important, Alvin? And what does this mean for the Saints?

2:02:53Mark Schlabach:All right, so two things here. One, I thought it was a pretty good deal for both sides, right? Like, you sort of wonder, is one side going to be really dug in and the Saints going to say, like, you know, we want to kind of hold you over the barrel and not pay you very much? Is Kamara going to be like, I want 10, good compromise? You know, he's obviously an older running back, going to be 31. The market for these guys has really come back, and it's actually been cool to see. People are willing to pay for running backs now because they sort of realize they can be difference makers. And if you're a veteran like him, you could do two things.

2:03:27Mark Schlabach:You could say, all right, I want to be on a playoff team. A lot of guys do that. Or you could say, I want to stick with my team and win. And where the Saints, we'll see, but where the Saints are now, they could be good. And so he could be sort of like the final piece to a really good team and would be an awesome, awesome way to end a really, really good career. All right, Rap. What about there's a lot of other veteran free agents who have still yet to sign, notably Stephon Diggs, Debo Samuel. There's a lot of other ones in other positions, but those two wide receivers, maybe the biggest names out there left.

2:04:00Joey Bosa, if he's going to play football or not. When do we expect? Are we waiting for camp for these guys to sign? Is there any indication that one of these guys are going to sign before camp's open in the next week? How do we feel about some of the guys that are still left on these lists? Diggs could.

2:04:15Mark Schlabach:I mean, look, if you're a veteran like Stephon Diggs, and actually a lot of the guys on the list are sort of in the same boat, where it's like, you've been through camps, Diggs is going to be in great shape. This year, as opposed to last year's comeback from the ACL, didn't really get to do the speed and sort of explosion training that he usually does, is doing it this offseason. and it sounds like he's doing really, really well. But he doesn't need camp, so he could wait if he doesn't get the right deal. But it certainly seems like he's talking to four teams. It certainly seems like he's got enough interest to sign.

2:04:50And you would think of the good sort of playoff caliber teams

2:04:55Mark Schlabach:that he would potentially sign with. But for a lot of the other guys, it's like, you know what? You've waited this long. What's a good example? Najee Harris. Sure. Right? Like, he, you know, visited a couple of teams. I think it was Seattle and the Raiders, right, if I remember correctly. You know, got some potential numbers there. But he could also say, you know what, I'm going to wait for a running back injury and maybe get a little more. Like, that's kind of the time of year where it is, where free agents want to sign. But like, sometimes waiting, getting a few extra dollars can help.

2:05:29Pat McAfee:All right. Anything we missed that we did not bring up that needs to be talked about from the NFL world this week?

2:05:34Mark Schlabach:You know, the Aaron Donald stuff is really interesting. Like, my sort of inclination at the beginning of this was like, nothing, not a big deal. But like, it sounds like he's really training to see. Like, he's been, you know, I don't know if you guys follow him on Instagram, but he is pretty jacked. But to get in football shape is a little different. So it sounds like he's going to get in football shape and then see. And like, this is a really intriguing possibility. I mean, adding Aaron Donald at 35, I know, but still incredible. Like, the Rams are on it. This is an interesting one to keep watching.

2:06:18Pat McAfee:Yeah, I would think so. And I hate bringing this up because we love him, senior. We assume, actually, forget that. I know that if Aaron Donald comes back, he's playing 50 snaps a game. This is not a farewell tour rotation tour. This is Aaron Donald football. In any mic'd up I've ever seen or any film I've ever seen of Aaron Donald, a part of Aaron Donald is not just the plays where he's getting a pressure. It's also the check 99 plays that are coming from every offensive line. And, you know, Miles Garrett, everybody's like, Miles Garrett will get the double team. Miles Garrett will get the double team.

2:07:00Pat McAfee:Okay, I agree, Miles Garrett. If Aaron Donald is anywhere near Aaron Donald, they're going to be sending two to Aaron Donald as well. I mean, this is not a – and that's been happening for, what, eight, nine years or whatever. So, I mean, this is – I think Aaron Donald, me personally, I do not talk to him on a regular basis. I believe he's coming back, okay? I believe that from the first text where he didn't shut it down immediately. It's like, oh, if he's even thinking about it, that means he's probably doing it. what he's trying to figure out he's trying to eliminate all self-doubt that he can't come back and absolutely murder right now i need to see what a workout looks like at the facility i need to go hit some of this i need to do this training camp's gonna probably be big uh if he comes back for him mentally like hey i gotta make sure i'm still the one you know because it would probably my guess

2:07:47Mark Schlabach:would be probably in the middle or late into training camp like that's what it sounds like to me like but if he does come back because like he's gonna want to spend this time by himself doing what he needs to do. The football stuff, he can kind of get as we get a little closer. That's my guess.

2:08:05Pat McAfee:I would assume that he's going to be a fucking monster when he comes back. There is going to be... I'm thinking there's not going to be a single... Maybe two games, but then as soon as he gets back into it... Remember, he's, I think, smelling salt. Every time he's mic'd up, there's him either talking to himself or somebody else. He is a killer. The guy is an absolute... His engine is never-ending i don't even know what he would do if they were to be rotating him out like on the

2:08:32Mark Schlabach:sideline what would he be doing i don't even know he probably just wouldn't yeah exactly like i'm

2:08:37Pat McAfee:good i'm good so i think he is just trying to figure it out aj is that what you think too as a person who's a freak aj hawk also freak athlete we have to remember that and i'm not saying he's in a conversation for greatest defensive player of all time but certainly nominated for college football hall of fame but white dude running four five four four at 240 40, 40, like, A.J., one of the greatest freak athletes of all time. Aaron Donald, still going to have that in there, right, A.J.? You just think he's trying to figure out whether or not how much it is? Like, what do you think he's trying to gauge right now in this whole thing?

2:09:07I think he's just trying to get, like, in football shape. If you're going to, if he feels healthy enough to say, yeah, you know what, I think I might come back. Let me go see how I feel, put myself through some rigorous workouts. I absolutely think he's coming back. If he's not hurt, if he doesn't have some, like, weird lingering injury feels like that would slow him down, why would he not come back? if you're going to at least take the steps he already has. I expect him to be on the field. Think about if he comes back two weeks into camp or something. Think of the juice it's going to bring camp to for everybody.

2:09:36Coaching staff, players, everybody is going to be rejuvenated.

2:09:39Pat McAfee:But all Aaron Donald's thinking is about a new offensive lineman that hasn't faced him, what he's going to do to him in the first place. Everybody else is going to be juiced up, but all Aaron Donald's going to be thinking about, I think, until then is like, am I the same guy? And then he's going to be doing things. and I wonder how quickly it's going to be like, yep, okay. I don't think it'll take too long. Just hit the sled a few times and say, yep, I still got it. McVay here, coaching-wise, motivation-wise, it's not just X's and O's, it's like reaching Jimmy's and Joe's. Like him showcasing to Aaron how he's better than he was before actually will be fun.

2:10:18Pat McAfee:Like, hey, we actually got a read on the sled. And this is you from three years ago. This is you Those moments are all huge, I think. Like, literally, Aaron doesn't want to come back and be seen as anything less than what he's already known as, which is one of the greatest of all time. That's a tough – like, Aaron's not telling us this. I'm just trying to, like, think for him as he's going through this. It's like, that's something, too. That's a constant pressure of, like, hey, you're considered greatest football player of all time in some circles. You know, that's a lot of pride in that. You've had an incredible career.

2:10:52Pat McAfee:Now you're coming out here. it's like the people want to see it. You got to deliver no matter what your age is, no matter how long you've been out there. The expectation of Aaron Donald is that he takes over games. That's Aaron Donald fucking way, basically. I bet you if they weren't going to Australia week one, it'd already be signed. Oh, that's fascinating. That is an interesting little... It's a real kick in the dick to come back to. Yeah, but what if he wants to play there, you know? Maybe, but why would you? How many years has he got left? I'll go fuck it. I played a game in Australia. First one ever.

2:11:20Pat McAfee:There's a couple of those. So wrapping it up, rap sheet. Your thoughts on Aaron Donald? He comes back mid-training camp, it sounded like you said. He plays full-time, and it's inevitable that Miles Garrett and Aaron Donald are going to be doing this at some point to some offense. Right, pick and roll. Yeah, some offense aligned on Monday Night Football, and then you just see a little AQ Shipley going. No, I don't think so, you know.

2:11:46Mark Schlabach:I mean, I'm sort of like you, and I hear what I hear, but I'm not talking to Aaron directly, and I don't know for sure, but I liked kind of what you said a little bit ago when you're like, if he's, you know, it's sort of like when a guy's thinking about retirement, I'm always like, he's going to retire. This is sort of like, he's thinking about coming back. It's like, what would make him go, okay, no, like, I'm not like, is he not going to be physically good? Like, I'm just trying to understand going through all this, ramping up the training, what would actually make him say no. And then the other thing is, like, we've had super teams or whatever you want to – I hate that stupid term, but, like, in the past, the Rams would be a little bit of that.

2:12:29Mark Schlabach:And they're, like, everyone's going to be gun informed. Expectations are as high as you could get. They're already really good. Like, that – their team is going to be so interesting to watch every game this year.

2:12:40Pat McAfee:Okay. We appreciate the hell out of you, man. Thank you for joining us. Have an incredible weekend. Tell the boys we said hello. and I guess Ty would say good luck with the delivery.

2:12:51Mark Schlabach:Yeah, yeah. Full suitcase of tube socks for each of them, so I know that they probably requested that.

2:12:56Pat McAfee:All right, you're the man. Tell Ms. Leo we said hello. That's Ian Rapoport. Happy Rapids. Happy Rapids.

2:13:08Pat McAfee:Hayes Fawcett here has some breaking news. He says five-star plus wide receiver Manchon Sales has committed to Indiana, he tells him. He tells Hayes Foss.

2:13:20Mark Schlabach:Let's go. A little late to the party there, Hayes. What the fuck you doing? He does that every time.

2:13:26Pat McAfee:We appreciate it, Hayes. We put him on here, right? Yeah. Hayes, do your thing, bro. Do your thing. That's a big deal for our program, bro. I know it doesn't matter because now we have an audience. That's a big fucking deal for us. Journalistic integrity a little bit.

2:13:42Mark Schlabach:Hayes ain't no fucking journalist.

2:13:44Pat McAfee:He is, though. They are the considered that of that, you know? We like Hayes. We like his hustle. He's a good guy. Can we get some fucking credit?

2:13:53Mark Schlabach:Agreed.

2:13:54Pat McAfee:We got 150 people in here.

2:13:56Mark Schlabach:Pete Nakos would never.

2:13:58Pat McAfee:We had a whole high school in here. We did. Pat Ford, he wouldn't do that to us.

2:14:05Mark Schlabach:He wouldn't. Shout out.

2:14:09Pat McAfee:Unbelievable. Alright, Hayes. Congrats to you getting the big break.

2:14:18Pat McAfee:nope not gonna say it because i like ac yes i work i wasn't just gonna automatically just ban him for life but i'm not gonna do that let's do it every single time we have someone on you i know he's a young guy he works his ass off figuring it out easy it's all good but just for the good for the sake of journalism which i've been questioning for before yeah my journalistic ethics is that what it was what was the integrity is that how they phrased it at the thing what's going on with that place journalistic standards oh yeah something like that What are those? Which one was it? Hmm. We don't need to get into that game.

2:14:52Pat McAfee:AJ? Hmm. Keep an eye out for your burn bags. Yeah. I will. How are the... He was... I can't remember if you were there or not. He hadn't seen his bees in a while. He was very worried about them. Still haven't. I'm going to probably hopefully get in there this afternoon. Yeah, I've been away for a little bit. What do you mean? You've got to build a relationship with them. They'll fucking leave you, pal. They'll go somewhere else. I know. I got to give them their time, too. I've been gone. It's been a little while. Letting them build, man. I got to give them their space, too. Have you still not found the Queen?

2:15:25I haven't gone back in there since. It's been 10 days, at least, since I've been in there. You are checked out on this hobby. Those things were feral, dude. You guys are ridiculous. Why do I even mention it? I shouldn't have never mentioned it to you guys.

2:15:38Pat McAfee:No, because we've been following this relationship between you and me. We got Hawks, Hawks, Box over there, dude. Yeah, we got sent an entire beehive over here. That's cool. I was excited to learn about this, but instead, what's happening? The only thing I learned is that you've given up. There's no day-to-day checking on it. Talk to anybody. Talk to David Burns, one of the greatest YouTube beekeepers there is. You've got to give him time to build, man. The guy invented it. He has a full hood that usually has mesh. Hooded in you, if you find this guy, he built a plexiglass view shield into his hood.

2:16:11So I'm looking to make one of those my own, too. okay so we're still interested oh come on more than interested this is what this is what they you know we absolutely are interested that's what we do all right um we got two things we

2:16:28Pat McAfee:have to do because it's friday but we got a lot of people i'm looking at that have to pee and poop um

2:16:39Pat McAfee:let's just uh um yeah let's just do one of each let's do one of each ladies and gentlemen it's for time do the right one do the right one for each one yeah see I don't know the answer to that right now Spox is making that decision the oh no is easy everybody knows that one something that happened that we never could have imagined. Actually, there was another one. Yeah. What? The animal one? Let me show you some. I was thinking the animal one. Okay, there's another one. Oh, and then there's another one I saw at Goofball Fest from last night. Oh, that. No. I want to see that one. I don't know what it is, but I'd like to see it.

2:17:18There was a poop one, too. Oh, the poop one's good. What's the Goofball Fest?

2:17:22Pat McAfee:All right, let's do all of that one. Let's do all of those ones. Let's go to the other one now. Let's go to the other one now. I don't know. I don't know any of the ones that aren't asked. I think we'll just do one there. These ones aren't as good. Actually, we'll just do two. We'll do two here and just kind of ride with me here. Ladies and gentlemen, each Friday we try to celebrate all the amazing things of sport. It's time for five things that aren't asked. Here we go. Here we go. Today it will just be two because obviously it's an off-season week. First, let's head to the American Century Classic out there in Lake Tahoe.

2:17:57Pat McAfee:So, ladies and gentlemen, there is Ahmad, who is an all-time leading tackler for the Green Bay Packers, college football national champion, Super Bowl champion, Roderick Crip winner, A.J. Hawk, who is a how-many-time participant in this celebrity golf tournament now? 17, maybe, something like that. And for the first time in his 17 years, he stepped up to the Travis Matthew. Boom! Wow! Boom! Shot for Hawker. So incredibly uncomfortable and awkward with them celebrating him and a camera on him. Doesn't know what to do. Just tries to walk it off, keep it cool. You were certainly excited in that moment, AJ.

2:18:34Pat McAfee:That's a big-time shot, and we know that. Yeah, I was glad I made it. I forget. I don't know who. Oh, it's my brother, obviously, was the one filming me. Yeah, he probably didn't expect me to make it so soon. But, yeah, had to get out there, get up to the 18th tee, and tee off and hit the next one out of bounds. Had you ever made it before? Yeah, I made it a couple years ago when I went by. I played with somebody who played with some people that were awesome and different people were firing shots and I said, hey, did you make it? And he said, I'm actually 0 for the tournament and this was Sunday at the time.

2:19:02So yeah, I was glad to make one.

2:19:03Pat McAfee:Yeah, it's good to get one and see one fall through there. Vince Carter hit one. Easy. Obviously, Steph Curry, just easy. It's crazy how easy all the basketball players, no matter how old they are, walk up to this and just kind of let it fall. Yeah, all of them. Drop it. It's a far-ass shot and there's wind and it's a weird setting and by that moment you are very intoxicated normally so way to go there aj we're proud of you let's uh let's move away from the golf let's head to a basketball court more specifically a uh nfl player on a basketball court ashton janty at a boise state obviously the guy did magical things in college he goes to the raiders and is a stud yeah i'd say He's a bit explosive.

2:19:45Pat McAfee:Yeah, I'd say that type of explosivity is good when it comes to being an athlete. And Ashton Gentry's everything they say is, I guess, out there in Las Vegas. That team's loaded. That team's stacked. I think the world, the NFL world, is going to be introduced to this guy this year in a much bigger way, AJ. Yeah, he is. I mean, how explosive. It's so impressive to see him do that. But it just makes me think of all the defenders that have to try to attempt to tackle this guy with his low center of grabby and how jacked and ripped he is. These guys are nightmares to tackle. I'm just letting you know right now.

2:20:17Pat McAfee:Boys, that's certainly not asked. No. I said, oh, buy stock in the Raiders now while you still can. I'm telling you, there's not a lot of respect for the Raiders on the sportsbooks or really anywhere. And that's, I guess, because they're in the Chiefs and the AFC is what it is or whatever. But you start looking at their roster, you look at what they did in the offseason, and you look at the Ravens taking Max Crosby, who has bangers out right away. So good. Congrats to him, by the way, pursuing that particular dream. But the Ravens go like this to him. Boom, kick him back to the Raiders. And this might be their best team.

2:20:46Pat McAfee:And we all know how we feel about Fernando. Like I am a believer in Fernando. They're in a competition obviously out there, him and Kirk Cousins. Good person for Fernando to learn from if Kirk is a starter. And if Fernando is a starter, Kirk has already had to go through this entire thing. And I think Kirk and Fernando are much more similar than maybe anybody else that could possibly be there. With Tom Brady also doing the, hey, this is how you're a leader. This is how you do this. It's like. You're a bomb. I'm a firm believer in the Las Vegas Raiders this year. Now, what does that mean?

2:21:16Mark Schlabach:They'll be much better than the Los Angeles. Six wins. How many wins? Yeah, exactly. What does that mean? Nine. Whoa.

2:21:21Pat McAfee:I would not be surprised they get a playoff win. A wild card win. Whoa. That's how I feel about the Raiders. When I'm looking at their roster right now, and how I believe in Fernando, but they spent a lot of money in a lot of good places. And it's like, are they that ass that they can't overcome having good players as well? We shall see. Good luck to them. Five and a half is their over-under for the win total. So I'm on their over. Slam him. I am on their way over. And then Gentry had – the O-line was so bad last year. So bad. He was getting hit three yards in the backfield almost every time, but he had over 1 ,300 total yards.

2:21:53And just with a horrendous O-line, it is a rookie season.

2:21:56Pat McAfee:And Brock Bowers, was he good or no? Always. Was he good tight end for the Raiders or no? Did it work out? Is he going to be okay in the NFL? Yeah.

2:22:05Mark Schlabach:He's just fine. They basically wouldn't let him play last year. He got hurt week one, and he was like, hey, I want to play. And Pete Carroll was kind of just like, wow, we suck. So we don't want you to get hurt, so you're not going to play.

2:22:17Pat McAfee:I like five and a half.

2:22:18Mark Schlabach:Five and a half?

2:22:19Pat McAfee:Yeah. Hey, let's do that before everybody gets on it. Hold on, sorry. If you're 21 plus in a legal state and agree to gamble responsibly and not like a fucking asshole, come join us, please. I'm literally getting this in before it changes. It's going to change as we talk about this, I think, Especially if an influx of money comes in on them. Three. Let me, if everybody can maybe slow it down a little bit. They spent some money. Five. Yeah, a lot of them, yeah. Oh, yeah, I can see them getting six. There's six, definitely. There's six wins. It's a tough schedule. It's tough schedule. There's six wins.

2:22:50Pat McAfee:Okay, but six and a half over under. Over six and a half is plus 125. No, thanks. I'll take the five and a half. I'm taking six and a half. I feel very good about that. All right, we'll see how long I let that bet stay. in my thing. It's hard to do the futures bets. It's hard to do the futures bets. Especially when you go to zero and you're like, should I reload or just cash out the futures bet? Fuck this thing. I'll do this again later. Responsibly.

2:23:19Pat McAfee:DraftKings available in all 50 states. Need to remember that. Predictive marketing in places in which sports gambling is not available. In sports gambling, they got the best. It is so many options. First time you're in there, might get a little scared okay because there's a lot of shit but as you get more and more and more and more comfortable it's like by far easy to use uh also they will check your ass had to watch a video the other day the video basically popped up as soon as you log in they say hey you should stop betting on soccer okay you want to look at your stats bro do you want to look at your stats right now view statue right now it's a button right here you should fucking is that true yeah popped up.

2:24:01Pat McAfee:I think it's one of their newest things. I found out after I thought I knew it in soccer. I had to figure it out. I had like...

2:24:10Mark Schlabach:A lot of lines out there.

2:24:14Pat McAfee:And I just thought, man, it has to come in a day. There was zero goals in a couple games. So it really went. And I log in. As soon as I get in there, it's a video. Gotta watch this. All right, let me skip the video.

2:24:31Mark Schlabach:No, you suck at doing this particular sport.

2:24:35Pat McAfee:You have to watch this video. And then it's like, do you want to view your stat sheet right here? Oh, yeah, actually, you are going to view your stat sheet. In soccer, this is started out good, bud. This is kind of what's happening. And then they're like, we can't wait to get to college basketball with you, too. We're going to have some of that. So I do believe that if you make an agreement to gamble responsibly, DraftKings will also remind you of that, that this is supposed to be fun. This is not a try-to-get-rich thing that is happening. Only like three people in history have been able to do that.

2:25:06Pat McAfee:Just history. I'm not talking like this. There's a very small group of people that have been able to do this for a living because sports are unpredictable. So don't be an asshole. Just utilize it to make the game a little bit better. And we appreciate the hell out of DraftKings as we go forward. And we would like to be people that remind people that we know sports gambling is going to be a part of sports in a much bigger way. Not that it hasn't forever, but also do it responsibly. So come on, this is what it's supposed to be. Like 10 years from now, I think we'll all kind of understand, like drink in moderation.

2:25:36Pat McAfee:You know, there's some people drink. Like I think it will be something, but we are honored that we are part of the time in which it is kind of all taking place. And we will continue to echo the sentiment that is a true one. Don't be an asshole. Gamble responsibly. That's right. It's actually not a bad tagline. No, I like it a lot. Because anybody at sports gambling is not going to get offended by being called an asshole. Don't be an asshole. Gamble responsibly. That's not bad. I ain't see a billboard of that. No. Hmm? You don't think they'll pull it up?

2:26:12Mark Schlabach:I don't know. I don't know how they feel. Young, impressionable eyes. A star, star. Yeah, maybe. Don't be an a-hole. But usually it's actually the hole part that they blur out. Is the problem? Yeah, and not the aspect. Because it's visual.

2:26:24Pat McAfee:Because ass okay.

2:26:25Mark Schlabach:Yeah.

2:26:26Pat McAfee:Hole okay. Can't do it. What about like a picture of a hole? Not a butthole, but like a hole like Shia LaBeouf holes. Yeah, and you just do one of these. You have somebody like this, like a blank person doing this with a hole.

2:26:43Mark Schlabach:Yeah. See-through on a billboard? That'd be cool. That'd be cool. I like that. That'd be a hole through it. Innovative, yeah. See the blue sky on the other side?

2:26:52Pat McAfee:So we're just kind of cutting a hole through the entire billboard?

2:26:55Mark Schlabach:Yeah, there's a big-ass hole in the middle.

2:26:56Pat McAfee:I think that would certainly be worth whatever that would cost, especially to put it back afterwards once we're done.

2:27:02Mark Schlabach:Yeah, you're right. We're never done. Yeah, you'd have to knock down the whole billboard after that, but it could be part of it as well.

2:27:08Pat McAfee:They sell those by the amount of eyes. I've told you guys this before, right?

2:27:11Mark Schlabach:Mm-hmm.

2:27:12Pat McAfee:You get an odd number. You fucking, you guys are real attention to the details. You're counting exactly how many one-odd fucks are walking through? Not that they're all fucks, but you get it. Sure. Majority, though. no good folks everyone i've met dude i uh i watched that abbott piece again great just kind of got caught in it i was just scrolling stopped did something it was running on the video i was like did i hear did i remember went through it again that third grade teacher yeah yeah dog taking time out of life away from school to figure out how to tie shoes i got it get out of here that's crazy like hey I figured it out that's like a fucking cool thing you know like listening to all that was like uh that was beautiful that was beautiful storytelling it was and a beautiful inspiration and beautiful stories of all now on that note let's go the complete opposite direction it's Friday it's time to wrap up some things that maybe didn't go so good ladies and gentlemen it's time to hop on the train that nobody wants to be on but inevitably if you're doing anything in life you could potentially end up here.

2:28:17Pat McAfee:It's time for... Oh, no! Let's go out to Yellowstone. Everybody's seen it. Have no idea how this is real and not out of a movie. Old man with suspenders running from bison! God! I've seen a lot of breakdown of people saying this guy just staying directly in front of a bison and continuing to do as such is obviously the only thing you can't do whenever you're with a bison. I guess side lateral movement not as great. This bison hitting him so purely and throwing him so high is obviously out of a movie. Guy's good. Guy understands everybody laughing at his fate and also understands that this is a scenario that we never thought we could see.

2:29:05Pat McAfee:Now, you look at that bison, you think to yourself that fucker's gigantic. Did we know they were that big in real life? I don't think so. I think I thought maybe a little smaller, you know, because I'll go through like a mall or I'll see one on the side of the street. That fucker is gigantic. And Foxy, you're good throwing it, man. I think we just ran 45 straight times. Well, we didn't talk about how it stands over and taunts him, too. Not only does it taunt him, I mean, he just took a photo of this. This is how it started. With the Finns jersey next to that. Jacoby Brissett. This is how it started.

2:29:35Pat McAfee:You take a photo of him. He's rolling around, and I wish we had the full video because at the beginning, he's like rolling around sleeping in the bicing. Kind of having a good time. Waking up. Yeah, here we go. Having a little bit of a time. Might just took their food right back here. Might just want to do their thing. That fucker is gigantic, dude. Just absolutely gigantic. And then somehow his eyes just kind of catch these two. Hey, shit sweet. What are you guys doing? I'm way too big for you to be this close. Alright, I'm getting up. And And you want a show? Is that what you want? You got your cameras out?

2:30:15Pat McAfee:Come here. Let me go ahead and fucking give you a show. That thing running right at you, you have to be thinking, no way this is real, no way this is real. Turn the corner, a little bit of fishtail. A little bit of a fishtail around there. Then stalks, pray stops. Let me get a little better angle at this thing. Runs through a tree, obviously. Get this tree out of my fucking way. Hey, tree, you're in my fucking yellowstone. And where's this prick at? He's back here. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Hey, where you at, pal? Oh, let me smoke you out of here. And then let me... Yummy! I mean, that's a lot of thinking that Bison did.

2:30:46Pat McAfee:Oh, yeah. Do we know that they had that much forward thought? Do we know that they had that much, like, pettiness? Do we know that they had that much athletic ability? The fishtail around the right end. Turned to there. That was... I learned so much about these fucks in this video. Other than the fact incredibly durable us as olds.

2:31:03Mark Schlabach:That's cool. Yeah. That he didn't know. Great work.

2:31:05Pat McAfee:Yeah. Very happy then. That fucker's gigantic.

2:31:09Mark Schlabach:Huge, yeah.

2:31:10Pat McAfee:which takes us where, AJ? The new stadium in Buffalo. We were calling, before seeing this thing, I didn't know this is what a Bison's fastball was. I had no idea that this is the fucking one. Is this the fucking, is this the goat of Bison? Might be. Is this the biggest, fastest, strongest one that we got? Is this what they all have been? I don't think we know enough, maybe. I saw them in history books. They were like this, mostly. but the fucking Native Americans were like this. I haven't seen one like that since America's wildest nature videos. Back in the day, you'd buy the VHS, get sent to your house.

2:31:47That was sick.

2:31:48Pat McAfee:Yeah, it was work sweet. There was another one. Somebody, multiple people do those. I think these pick and choose to do the nature ones. For me, I've never seen a bison that big. That fucker was big. Yeah. Is that a modified one? Like, what do we got going on? Is that a crossbreed of something? It could be. Is that what a fucking bison has always looked like? I think so.

2:32:10Mark Schlabach:I don't know how old that thing is. I didn't know they were that aggressive. But I think Connor might have been on to something. I think that pickup truck rode by and was like, Fuck you, dickhead! And then he was like, What did you say to me? And then that old bastard just sitting right there with binoculars. Yeah, exactly. As soon as he saw binoculars.

2:32:30Pat McAfee:So that Ram truck, I believe it was. The first one or the second one? The first one. Left to right. Yes, agreed. That's the one that you're saying. Yeah, talking shit. Might have honked, actually.

2:32:42Mark Schlabach:Yeah, we don't know what audio is available out there, but I think those guys might be to blame.

2:32:48Pat McAfee:Can we go back to the... That's a ramp truck right there.

2:32:51Mark Schlabach:And the windows rolled down, isn't it? Yeah.

2:32:54Pat McAfee:Definitely said so. Press play. Press play. What do you think happened to your... What's up, guys? What do you think the truck says?

2:33:03Mark Schlabach:Right here, no big deal. Whatever. This guy, they're just like... He's like, check this shit out. This is going to be awesome. He's going to whip it around the trees. Come back around.

2:33:12Pat McAfee:Okay. And you think, when do you think is the moment that...

2:33:21Pat McAfee:That was the moment, I think, whenever it was that truck right there.

2:33:24Mark Schlabach:No, because I think he's getting up right there. Okay, you think he's doing... Yeah, right here. Fuck you, dickhead! Oh, that's a different truck, I think. I think that's a different... Those are two different trucks. Those guys are in cahoots. Oh, you think one woke him up? I'll wake him up. We'll yell at him. Maybe he'll fucking kill this guy over here. Who knows? And we can steal the campsite.

2:33:44Pat McAfee:Yes, he's hunting that guy. He even pushes him out. The second lap around, when he takes the tractor another round right here, he pushes him to go right where he wants him to go. He's like baiting him. Yep, please. Thank you. Zito did some digging. The truck did honk its horn. Which one? Had to be the first one The first one had to be the first one The second one looked like it was someone working there How about them hitting the gas a little bit faster And waiting Good luck

2:34:15Mark Schlabach:But good on that Buffalo too Because I assume if he was really pissed After he launches him up like that He could have went and stomped on his head and killed him And he decided not to He was talking to him He stayed over

2:34:27Mark Schlabach:Tom's going through it over there bro

2:34:29Pat McAfee:Did you hear him earlier There was a 7 cough run I thought he was dead after each one. I like that city, but every time I go there, it's dirty. It's a dirty city. What city? What? Well, we were in two very dirty cities. Okay, I didn't know which one. There are a lot of people there with weak immune systems. It is a dangerous place to be. Bruce Brown attacking the immune system. If you weren't born and raised there from birth, he had stuff to do. Born in the dark, you're saying. Well, I'll tell you, the hotel air conditioning. That too. If you got one shooting right on your face and you happen to maybe fall asleep in a different place, but then roll into that, that certainly will get you in the morning.

2:35:14Pat McAfee:That'll get you pretty dry in the morning. And then a lot of, what was that? Oh, I was just huffing the neighbor in this hotel's somehow cold air that Europe hasn't figured out yet. directly into your face for three, four hours. Actually, I'm not going to blame it on New York because it did start in Philly, but there was human poop that Foxy and I had to step over in New York. Really? I thought that was done. I didn't see any human poop. Day one. They saw diarrhea. So runny. I never actually see human poop when we're in New York, and then I did this time. It was awesome. Really? It's the first time?

2:35:48Pat McAfee:Yeah, and it was disgusting. Because I'll say, like, the last three times I've been there in recent history, I haven't seen it, and that'd be the first three times that I had to. So that's what I, I guess just, I was a different mindset. Yeah, it was early in the morning too. That person's unhealthy. Yeah, we saw a couple people sharing a queen cardboard. So it did seem as though they were probably using the dumper. Yeah, but it could have been the horses too. I saw, um, Central Park horses. Yeah, that's a bummer. That's a big time bummer. Ban them now. Yeah. There is a movement to ban them and they should.

2:36:21I'll sign that. And where do they go? That's part of New York.

2:36:24Mark Schlabach:Don't ban those fucking things. That's part of New York. Those things were about to die every single one of them. You get these small city slickers coming in, especially people from overseas. They want to take a horse ride around Central Park. Now, if you want to ban a couple falafel stands, because I could have sworn I saw one of those guys just taking a fucking dump on a semolina roll and then selling it to someone, that's a different story. But that's neither here nor there.

2:36:51Pat McAfee:You're not going to get the A grade there. We couldn't find pizza.

2:36:54Mark Schlabach:Crazy. No piping hot pizza anywhere. It was unbelievable.

2:36:57Pat McAfee:Yeah. Nothing open after 10 p.m. That was crazy. We couldn't find pizza after the ESPYs. We were walking back.

2:37:02Mark Schlabach:You were there, dickhead. What do you mean, Rude? Not after the ESPYs. I wasn't there. No, but we were talking about the two previous nights as well. You can't find pizza anywhere.

2:37:10Pat McAfee:How do you feel, AJ, about missing the ESPYs now that it's happened? I mean, I did miss out. I was watching it on TV, and I was like, man, I wish I was there. but I was unable to be there. So I made the best of it. I thought they did a great job, Marcel. Beautiful job hosting. I did think you did a good job. Not an easy gig. No. Tough room. Yeah. Tough room. Music's tough, too. Like, if you're not the crowd, it's always awkward. Awkward. They do stuff in between, too, you know, like during the break. That stuff's always awkward, too. They should just play some music. just like hey you guys probably all want to talk to each other right now even though i very the mc guy like he's good the other shit that they try to put in there though it's like there's like a thousand people in this room that i'd much rather have them talking and actually i'm trying to go talk to him actually because what we got three and a half minutes right now no actually you guys sit down we got a little mid-break show going on it's like well i'd like

2:38:09Mark Schlabach:to fucking go talk to them most of the seat fillers are like robots too like you know there's a lot of movement people going out there and you get so like every once in a while just be like some random person sitting next to you and they're just fucking sitting, looking straight ahead, like won't engage. It wasn't the seafillers we

2:38:23Pat McAfee:talked to, though.

2:38:24Mark Schlabach:I had a couple like that. No, they weren't robots

2:38:27Pat McAfee:though, because we told them not to be robots. We told them we need big ha ha ha.

2:38:31Mark Schlabach:We had some guys down at the end at some point, but there was a couple people I was sitting next to, like the first, like, 30 minutes we were in there. Fucking robots.

2:38:42Pat McAfee:That couldn't have been in the group we saw going in. Probably not. I saw a group of these seat fillers whenever we walked in and felt obligated to go give them a speech. Felt obligated to give them a speech about, hey, we need action. Oh, that's what that group was? Yeah.

2:38:56Mark Schlabach:I thought it was like high school athletes for sure. Oh, okay. No, I'm not talking about them.

2:39:01Pat McAfee:They were. Oh, but they were also high school and like freshmen in college, I think. It was that era of human athletes that were selected to be seat fillers. So got a chance to see them. We were already late. Let's be later. Let's go talk to these people. go and talk to them. They tell them their story. Yeah, they had great energy, great vibes. They did. They understood the importance of being in there. Like, hey, whoever's on the stage needs you. We need big ha, ha, ha. I told them. T, ha, ha, ha. Those things. Loud clapping. We need big dramatic clapping. Standing O's, let's be excited to get up.

2:39:40Pat McAfee:I forgot about how many of those happened. Yeah, a few too many this year. Yeah, but it stopped at one point on somebody and then it just kind of slowed down. It was everyone for a while. Yeah, I think early people felt excited to potentially do it. Yeah. And then it was like, what are we doing? Here we go again. Are we doing it? Okay, here we go. That was a decision that was made by, who is that? Normally in the back, I think. Probably. There was someone front left who kept doing it, who was really pissing me off. Oh, come on, dude. Peter Schreger?

2:40:11Mark Schlabach:No. I know who you're talking about.

2:40:13Pat McAfee:Peter Schregg was right behind us, though, with The Miz. I saw a great little video of him. Very excited. He was very excited. He was juiced. You said, I think Schregg showed up at 4.30 to the red carpet. I don't think so. I know he did. Really? Yeah, he went right from our show directly over to the red carpet. Then nothing got delayed because of the rain. Oh, yeah, it did. Yeah, so he was just kind of holding down. I think he actually had an umbrella out for the fucking people arriving. Let's go to the last

2:40:49Alright, that's the show That guy earned it He was in there for 8 hours Just covered in poop Ladies and gentlemen, let's go to Kansas City

2:41:02Pat McAfee:A man got stuck in the shitty part of a poor John for 8 hours This man somehow found his way into where you poop and pee. Obviously, security cops and fire department were all very confused by the situation. Sir, how do you find your way in there? And I'll tell you, for eight hours, he was sitting in there. We still don't know the exact way he got in there. A lot of people saying drugs probably in play here. Maybe he dropped his phone. He's trying to get down in there. Could have, yeah. Accidentally fell. It was Mountain Dew. I believe he dropped Mountain Dew. Okay, maybe it was a liquid, I guess.

2:41:37Pat McAfee:He was trying down there and scoop it back up. Whatever the case, eight hours this man was in the wrong end of a port-a-john. So a fire department had to come and saw him out, eat their own amount of shit, and this guy gets out. Tone, you were really the driver behind this one. What most satisfies you about this particular clip? Just the ability to get down in there. There was multiple moments where he had to do one of these. Yeah, and then he wouldn't come out. So this was on July 14th. It was after the KC watch party for the World Cup. So a lot of piss and shit in there. A lot of staying power.

2:42:16A lot of steamy piss and shit in there. This guy decided to live in there for eight hours. And then they came to pick up the portage on it. It was locked. And they said, hey, you got 10 minutes to come out. He said, all right, I'll be right out. He never came out until they started thinking this might be something going on. They found him in there. And then he was bad-mouthing the fire department. He was. And they were like, listen, dickhead, you were the guy that got in here. don't yell at us he never really gave the full story after that he didn't want to I guess the fire department said but it's a good

2:42:44Pat McAfee:it's a good story the amount of different times that Portajon was telling him no his head and shoulder stuck not being able to get in there the Portajon is saying can't do it he's like when there's a will there's a fucking way forces his head down in there gets in there brings his legs in Yep. And then once he gets in there, so accomplished of himself, I guess. Was he just going to live there? Like, we need an interview. I would have guessed you had certain death if you were to sit there for eight hours. That guy's dead. For sure. You think he was trying to? He probably inhaled 15 different people's pieces of poop.

2:43:23Like, no matter what, I think the mortality rate on that. 1 ,500. Yeah, bingo. Was he trying to creep on people and trying to get people to come dump on him while he was sitting in there? Wow.

2:43:33Pat McAfee:No, because he was locked.

2:43:34Mark Schlabach:Yeah, it was locked.

2:43:35Pat McAfee:Yeah, he was the one that was dumping.

2:43:38Mark Schlabach:He was just hungry. And he was like, I need a fucking... I need a port-a-potty buffet. This thing is loaded after the U.S.

2:43:46Pat McAfee:Men's National Team. The fire department did wash him off afterwards with their fire hoses from a very far distance. Yeah, that's doing nothing.

2:43:56Mark Schlabach:That guy's going to smell like poop for the next fucking six years.

2:44:00Pat McAfee:I mean, anytime you do get kind of marinated in shit and piss in a poor John, and you have to assume that's going to do something to you long term. Nonetheless, whenever you see something like that, you can't help but just say, oh, no. And ladies and gentlemen, that was, oh, no. All right, what a week. It's great to be back. Long week, but a short week. Yeah, great one. It was a great week. It was. Talks at the table, great work, boys. You too, man. One half of the hammer. Dad. Cowboys AP, Tom, good work. You. The other. What's that? You, good work. Thank you. To you too, Tom. Thank you. So the other half of the hammer.

2:44:48Pat McAfee:Dad. Cowboys bubblegum being a great work this week, Gumpy. Good week, baby. Good work, Gump. Good luck to England this weekend, Gump. Oh. What'd you say? It's a good luck to this England squad. Thank you. I'm actually going to take it in because it'll probably be the last game Thomas Tuchel's on the touchline for. You guys are certainly trying to run him out of the country. Absolutely. Pep Guardiola's at the wheel. Euros 2028 is coming home. Well, it sounds like Team USA might need a coach as well. We'll see if Guardiola decides to go home to England or maybe become the father of a sport in an entire country.

2:45:19Pat McAfee:Could. I don't know. You tell me which one you choose. What if Lou decides to hang him up and he just becomes the U.S. men's national team coach? People say he's a big-time talker. so yeah but he carries a big stick huge stick I want a little play fuck him being a coach player coach so fuck if that's what it takes he doesn't play that's all I was saying it's going to take him to be considered an American because he's already played for Argentina a couple times and technically he is from there and I think everybody says he's from there including him would say that and he's won a World Cup for them.

2:46:02Pat McAfee:If we know the FIFA have very strict rules on a lot of things and the way they're always by the book. Yeah. If we can get him in somehow by coach, like foreign coach, and then he also, Jackie Moons, I'm with that. I think we'd all be with him. Yeah, I'd be with that for sure. We'd say bye to Ponch.

2:46:23Mark Schlabach:Or Ponch could be like, you know, assistant coach, bench coach or something. I don't know, Grell, I kind of changed my mind. He did. Yeah, he made some good points, salient points.

2:46:31Pat McAfee:Yeah, he said he could actually probably have done what Ponch did. Yeah. What do you think about it? I mean, they did win the group, in all fairness. They weren't favored to win the group. If Berhalter was at the wheel, I doubt they would have done anything at all. Yeah, our biggest worry was Turk IE, right? And they fucking sucked. They did suck. But I don't know if Grella has given us an answer for the grass that is greener than Ponchettino.

2:46:52Mark Schlabach:No, he definitely has not. And maybe it's Coach Miolo. Could be Coach Miolo. Could be Coach Peele. Not if I've been saying it wrong this whole time. You're right.

2:47:04Pat McAfee:Tony. Tony could be the answer.

2:47:10Pat McAfee:Gumpy, congrats on another five years in America. There you go. Glad to be here. USA. USA. USA. When does the studying start for the test that you're definitely going to do good on? I tell you what. But once I'm here for five years, I can get the green card. So, you know, we get that. And then, you know, after 10 years, we get the citizenship. So we got a lot of time. We don't just get the citizenship. Well, the green card we do get. And the green card is kind of the one that, you know, you don't have to deal with any of the other bullshit anymore, which would be really cool. Which we're very thankful to deal with.

2:47:46Pat McAfee:Obviously, this entire process has been filled with incredible people. And thank you to everybody for being a part of this over there in Washington, D.C. We certainly do appreciate the hell out of that. But there's a test, isn't there, at some point coming around the bend or around the river bend? About seven years from now, yeah. All right, here's a couple questions. Here's a sample for that, okay? Principles of American government. Question one, Gumpy. No phone or friends happening here. Remember, this is Gumpy in the room. Okay. It's a tough subject, too. His future with us depends on him getting these right.

2:48:23Pat McAfee:What is the form of government of the United States? Is it a republic? Is somebody playing drums with their microphone? My glasses just fell off. Are you okay? No, I've had to piss since 1.30 so bad. We're holding strong. What is the form of our government? Which is kind of a trick question. Now we'll see. Is it a republic? is it a constitution-based federal republic or is it a representative democracy he's googling back here smart yeah the answer is all isn't it it's all four it is all yeah what is the supreme law of the land well yeah it's multiple choice you kind of get to see the questions before this though you get all what is the supreme law of the land i don't know you know We've got seven years to figure that out.

2:49:15Jesus Christ.

2:49:16Pat McAfee:We've got to learn that one. It's faith, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That is no. That is not the principles of our country.

2:49:24Mark Schlabach:Depending on where you go, you might just be able to say, it's the right to bear arms, motherfucker. I think that's a part of it. Write that in.

2:49:31Pat McAfee:What's the supreme law of the land, Gumpy? What are the options? It's multiple choice. Every question on the citizenship test is multiple choice. All right. Constitution, A B, right to bear arms I like that one, I don't think that's it though C Faith, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness That one's wrong, said it already D, none of the above None of the above Oh my god, we just The Constitution He gave it to you, he gave it to you He gave it Do one more, do leave one more Go down and keep going Geography important What year was Jay Fiedler, the starting quarterback in Miami Dolphins? Hold on, hold on, hold on.

2:50:15Pat McAfee:Okay,

2:50:19Pat McAfee:stop, stop, stop, stop. Stop. How many amendments does the U.S. Constitution have now that we learned about this existing? Multiple choices, please. Okay. A, 14. B, 32. C, 27. D 25 I'd go with C 27 How many of those do you have to get right? How many of those do you have to get right? One, that's it, I got it I think there's 10 questions you get asked I believe And you gotta get what, 8? 7 or 8 I think you're good Can you go down? I mean we got one No, here we go Here's a guy up, actually. Stop, stop, stop. What founding document said the American colonies were free from Britain? July 4th, 1776.

2:51:21A.

2:51:22Mark Schlabach:You don't need the E. Just know it. You don't need multiple choice for this one. You're fucking killing me, Gumpy. Just say the answer. You know this.

2:51:32Pat McAfee:There's a movie about the day He said it today July 4th also known as 4th of July

2:52:01Pat McAfee:We got time. The worry, there's no worries. We got time. We got time. We need to start now, though. I mean, green card, you know. How long can you green card it? Forever. Oh, okay. Yeah. But don't we kind of. We'd like to be a citizen. We want that little flag. Don't they give you, like, the little flag? Yeah, I want to get that picture. I want to get that picture for sure. Yeah. But like I said, the green card is a good start. Okay, so let's aim for that, I guess. Let's try to avoid any other 10-year bans. Because I think they could, you could do something where they take that away. They can't take away your citizenship.

2:52:36They can. They can just hang you from a doorknob. And then it's just kind of whatever. A firing squad.
