0:00Hello beautiful people and welcome to our humble abode, the DraftKings Thunderdome. On this For Goodest Sport Tuesday, July 21st, 2026, this program begins now.

0:12Pat McAfee:Sports! Are the absolute greatest and we are so incredibly lucky that we get a chance to chat about them every single day, especially on days like today we can't help but look in the mirror and understand that we're living the luckiest lives of all time that we get a chance to chat about the greatest thing that has ever been invented, which is competition in sports. And the sports world is always going to deliver. Now, will it be action-packed highlights every single night of our lives? No, we are realizing. Okay? There isn't always going to be something that is going to be spectacular happening every single night, especially in the middle of summer.

0:44Pat McAfee:There is a chance that baseball will show up for us in a big way. Softball will show up in a big way. WNBA could potentially show up for us in a big way. But right now, we are in the middle of what's going to happen, what could happen, and where we are stories in all different leagues. Now, obviously, the NBA has a man who's currently a free agent. who's obviously in the greatest of all time conversation. He's a friend of the program. He's a man who could literally pick and choose any team he wants to play for in the NBA, and he's still trying to figure it out. Where the hell will LeBron James go?

1:14New odds-on favorite this morning? Yesterday was Miami Heat. Today, Cleveland Cavaliers. Oh, wow.

1:21Pat McAfee:Now, I wonder if LeBron James potentially liked a post that said there's nothing like going back home or something, like on Instagram, and somebody saw King James do a home thing. So now that obviously boosts their particular odds to get them. Why was Miami in the lead? Why is Golden State not in the lead? That one feels wrong.

1:40Jeff Passan:Was he not in an airport last night?

1:41Pat McAfee:That's a nine-year NFL vet. That's Darius J. Butler. That's one half of the hammer. Dad. Cowboys AP Tone asking if LeBron James was in any international airports recently where we could potentially see what gate he was going to potentially see. I don't think that's happening. Toxic Table, at Boston Corner, at Ty Schmitter here. These are the things that we have to do, but it's not just speculation on a goat. Ladies and gentlemen, we got rookies reporting to training camp in the NFL. Boom! Go! We got the Bills, Panthers, Texans, Dolphins, and Patriots, rookies all reporting to training camp. That means there is a journey to Lombardy land that has begun for these five teams.

2:18Pat McAfee:Now, how many teams will start over the next couple days? A lot. Now, how many games will matter for us in the next couple weeks? None. How much of this will be worthy of chatter every single day? Probably not a lot, but we will say, rookies are in NFL buildings today. Yeah! Woo! Come on! Thank you so much for the offseason of sport. That obviously was spectacular, and soccer had certainly a big hand in that, which has surprises. What the hell happened in Argentine's locker room before that game? I don't know. That'd be good. How's everybody crying, Donner? Pine. Let's go to one half of the hammer.

2:54Cowboys bubblegum peanut. Lou Messi needs to get out of Argentina. He needs to be playing for America today.

3:01Pat McAfee:What happened? They weren't even going to win that game before they even stepped onto the pitch, apparently. There's a lot of drama going around this Argentina team that obviously loses in a horribly boring, devastating way.

3:12Adam Schefter:Despicable. They look beaten before the game started, unfortunately.

3:16Jeff Passan:That's what we're learning now. Messi gave a speech as well. What? Forget what happened in the locker room. Let's go out there. so there's rumblings on the internet nobody really knows what happened before that match it reminds me in 1998 when the brazilian squad with ronaldo and all the legends sure there was a dust up in their locker room they went out and lost three nothing to france as well bad one so you're telling me that it's a chance that it was potentially partners potentially doing stuff with

3:46Pat McAfee:other partners oh boy on other members of the team we've seen that take down locker rooms in many a sport. You can obviously assume soccer is that. I'm not saying that's what happened here. We are just saying there's a lot of things that could potentially happen right before a World Cup final that's going to cause the boys to fight each other.

4:02Jeff Passan:Come on. Can't have it. Can't we wait until after the final? They did. Can't we? Yeah, then they fought Spain. They really did. But how do we know that it wasn't just Lou Messi giving an impassioned, very somber, emotional speech and all these guys are like, we're never going to take the pitch with this guy again after today.

4:19Pat McAfee:Yeah, maybe it was super emotional because it was the last time Lou and the boys were going to be able to do their thing on the pitch. I'll say we're watching Spain celebrate that World Cup. That looks like fun. They're having a Super Bowl parade over there for the country. That's a lot of fun. That looks like an absolute blast. I'm happy they're enjoying that. Let's get back to the NFL rookies in the building. It's not just rookies either. I don't know if you saw this. I assume the Bills rookies are all there. Sure. I assume Texans rookies are all there. Yeah, should be. I assume Panthers rookies are all there.

4:46I assume Dolphins rookies are all there. They should be. Did you see the Patriots? Drake Mazur. Is that allowed? Is he a rookie? Is this guy even allowed to go to rookie camp?

4:57Pat McAfee:Obviously, Drake May trying to get a couple extra days of training camp. Connor Campbell, Boston Connor, saw this and obviously was elated. Drake treats every day like he's still a rookie, man. That's what Drake's going to be like forever. This is the perfect guy for our team. This does make you obviously go a little bit of zipper burn, but this made it feel real to me. When I saw Drake May, MVP finalist last year, okay, number two in voting for MVP. Obviously, he was in the Super Bowl. Took over the world in his first year in an offensive system. Let's imagine that's only going to get better up there for him in New England.

5:26Pat McAfee:Showcase everything that they thought he could potentially be. The athleticism, the ability to throw, the pinpoint accuracy, being able to break down a defense, his footwork, you name it. This guy was everything we thought he was. And I'm seeing him report to training camp. That got me excited. I couldn't even imagine what it did to UConn.

5:40Jeff Passan:Yeah, it freaked up immediately. It's hard not to be when you kind of see these players coming in. Because you mentioned it. When it's the rookies, it's like, okay, is this guy going to be good? Is this guy going to be good? odds would tell us. Probably not. But when you see a reigning MVP finalist, a guy who played in the Super Bowl, walk into a brand new building, by the way. I don't know if you saw. That's just a face scan. We're not part of the past.

5:59Pat McAfee:Yeah, I'm sure that won't take forever.

6:01Jeff Passan:No, we're not part of it. That's a good idea. Let's do that one. Make sure your eyeballs are perfect. Wasn't even close to perfectly there. He damn near walked past it. Look. Hold on. Let me just get my face in. Okay. Boom. Doors unlocked. Hey, nice to see you. Hey, y 'all. And it was just immaculate to see that. And also, look at the legs on that guy. The tree trunks have grown, gentlemen. The arms look bigger. The shoulders look broader. I mean, the boys have been working. The Patriots have a lot to prove here, and they got much better this offseason.

6:33Pat McAfee:They certainly had a lot go on this offseason. They got much better on the field. They got much better.

6:38Jeff Passan:They got much better. And the team came together. Bunker mentality. Exactly what you want on the team, especially post-Super Bowl. Okay, yeah. Super Bowl loss, too. That's a heartbreaker. Probably more focused off the field now, too.

6:50Pat McAfee:Yeah, I would assume the team's ready to lock in. I did see the shorts ride up in between on Drake May. You know, that's been happening to me for most of my life. You've got good quads, good hammies. Obviously, that thing's going to ride up a little bit. You're going to look like an idiot. But I think he is certainly prying and destined to do something special this season and for the foreseeable future. Him and McDaniels are only going to start speaking the same language even more and more.

7:12Jeff Passan:Yeah, he's 23, so he basically is a rookie.

7:14Pat McAfee:Yeah, so Drake May is getting a head start on camp. He's just going up there. I don't know if he's allowed to be there with a rookie. Nope. What should we take here for the first couple weeks, D-Bud? Everybody's just trying to get acclimated to the building, acclimated to each other. What do you expect our conversations are going to be like of not only these rookie camps, but these first few weeks of training camp?

7:29Adam Schefter:There'll be a lot of stories of us blowing things up, small things, making them sure they need to be. You know, that's just what we have to do. Good, yes. It's a daily sports show. There are some, obviously, quarterbacks. It's always the lead of the conversation. We talk about NFL contracts. There's some quarterbacks. You know how it is with teams and quarterbacks and players in general. Sometimes you have that deadline. Hey, if we get into training camp, we won't revisit these contract talks until after season. Baker Mayfield down in Tampa. Some quarterback competitions, you know, in Cleveland and Minnesota.

7:58Adam Schefter:So those would be the biggest storylines. And then seeing these, you know, as soon as a rookie makes a play or a rookie drops a ball. Remember Jamar Chase, he can't catch NFL football. That was nice. Yeah, who knows what this year's story would be. That was true. That was so awesome. He figured it out. No, he didn't. He figured it out.

8:15Pat McAfee:I think he's figured it out pretty good. Yeah, Uno, they're paying him a lot of money over there. That was the greatest. He took a year off, obviously. Then he gets drafted really high to Cincinnati, go back to his college quarterback, and first two days of training camp, he dropped the ball. And that had every expert out there saying, you know, a college ball actually has stripes on it. That's why you can kind of see it coming. Maybe your depth perception is a little bit better. Without the stripes, will he know when the ball's getting there? Apparently not. This might be a waste of traffic. March Hayes can't catch an NFL football.

8:42Look out. Turns out he's just trying to figure it out, man.

8:46Jeff Passan:He's just all right. He's just woke up a little bit late, maybe one day did that entire thing.

8:50Pat McAfee:And I do like that you said we'll blow up the little things because little things lead to the big things. That's right. And you have to talk about them all. For instance, Jacoby Brissett tomorrow, Arizona Cardinals, is he going to be there or not?

9:02Adam Schefter:That's a big question.

9:03Pat McAfee:That's the state of the Arizona Cardinals currently. Jacoby Brissett saying you can't pay me like I'm a rookie, left guard. If I'm going to be your starting quarterback. There has to be a professional conversation or just a little professional courtesy. And then you've got LaFleur over there like, hey, I'm brand new trying to do I mean, I've got Carson. Come on. This cannot be how this whole thing begins.

9:24Adam Schefter:Have we seen it recently? Has he done anything with the hair? We don't want people to change. You want them to be themselves when they change. You saw him. Out in LA, right? I saw him. You saw him. You had eyes on him. Eyes on him. Arm around shoulder. Me. Sweaty. Okay. Sweaty. I was in tank top at World Cup dressed like an asshole.

9:41Pat McAfee:Everybody told me I should have dressed nicer. I didn't know we have to wear a suit. It's a soccer game. I know we have to do that. Be talking about it. But I was very, very lucky to happen upon a section of suites in there.

9:52Jeff Passan:Okay.

9:52Pat McAfee:They're right on the field. And one of them had Tom Cruise in it.

9:55Jeff Passan:Okay. No big deal. David Beckham.

9:58Adam Schefter:Of course.

Read the full transcript

10:02There was a bunch of other people in there. Is that Roy Keane? I so speak. Roy Keane. I so speak. I need more speed. Robby, excuse me. Sorry, Robby. It's all him. And then right next to their suite was the Cronkies suite. Okay. And I just, one of them happened to be like,

10:18Pat McAfee:hey, why don't you come look at our setup over here for what you built here? I'm like, you know what? I'll definitely go to the owner that built this entire stadium, brand-new stadium suite or whatever. I'll go there. It is. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. They do really good over here. Chef's good. Oh, yeah. They do really nice. Really good view. McVay was there, though. Super jacked. We all saw that. I actually asked him what science he was on. I obviously did that entire thing. And then LaFleur was there, and I recognized him by the hair. Sure. Yeah. And we're only a couple weeks removed from doing our entire breakdown of the way he looked.

10:46Pat McAfee:Right. And obviously he knows of us from Green Bay pretty good, I assume. Yeah, probably. In the entirety. Saw him, noticed the hair, went up, shook his hand. Very cool. I mean, like, incredibly, incredibly awesome. I told him, have you learned that once you become the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, you have to get in there early. you actually have to pedal the power for the building before you get in there and then is the team car that they give you yeah but dabba do exactly are you doing that do you got are you guys do you have to conserve enter are you allowed to have air conditioning in the building he's like stop we gotta they got i guess they got a massive new practice facility they're currently building like a lot of money i was like am i allowed to report that he's like it has been reported i'm like oh we missed it yeah they're building they're building a massive new practice facility i do believe from my understanding from what i was told there and also i think he's getting a chance to like really you know like I think that was one of the um main draws for him from my conversation I'm not gonna act like I know him I talked to him for four minutes but it felt five minutes probably 10 actually I think we had a drink as well I had a drink I don't know about him having a drink I was in a tank top I was sweaty he did feel my sweat but it did feel like uh one of the the big draws of this because he would have been able to wait and go yeah he would he's in McVay's he's offense coordinator in McVay's system Matthew Stafford obviously just won an MVP I'm not saying he's going to get the Ben Johnson-like hype, but there will be future hiring cycles where he will definitely be the first one in line.

12:05Pat McAfee:So I asked him, like, I love Scottsdale. I love Phoenix. We love it. We absolutely love it. But that doesn't feel like, especially in the West here, you know, with what you've got going on. I mean, every team here is really good. And it feels like he's excited to, like, all right, let's go. Let's do this. Let's build this. Let's make this. And he said that he's got a lot of commitment from ownership, and he thinks that's kind of just, like, a chapter that they're trying to get through in real time as they get to the next one. So I think it's a lot more positive out of Arizona after talking to him.

12:33Pat McAfee:But on that note, we're going to have to see that. And what does that mean for how long? And any NFC West, yeah, right.

12:37Jeff Passan:I mean, that's just a long way to go. I believe they play the... And then Aaron Donald's coming. I mean, you got to... I mean, Eddie, you are little, little, little, little brother in there. Best city, probably.

12:48Pat McAfee:Yeah. Up there, Nashville. No, but NFC West. Oh, in that division. LA's awesome. San Fran's also awesome. Seattle, I've been up there. It's beautiful. And Phoenix is unbelievable. But in that division at that time, I mean, granted, they do have the Hall of Fame game, and they're kicking everything off, and the history is going to be celebrated to them. It's like I hope they do get a chance. And he felt like a cool guy. I think he felt like a dog. Jeremiah, love.

13:13Jeff Passan:And I think they play. Great player. Love what they got going on. Love that as well. I think they play the AFC West too, if I remember correctly. Tough draw. Maybe next year, coach. It's a tough draw. I believe they're plus 1 ,000 just to win the division, which is pretty heavy, guys.

13:25Pat McAfee:Okay, let's get back to some odds for the other massive news story that's happening in sports world. LeBron James, what are the odds where? Cleveland became the favorite this morning. Can you tell us where we sit on DraftKings, the best sportsbook on earth?

13:38Jeff Passan:Yeah, Cleveland now the favorites at plus 140. The Heat now slide right behind them, followed by Golden State and the Sixers. It's really been those four teams the entire time, and they've kind of rotated and flip-flopped. We do this with the draft, and we do this with things like this, where we talk about how this is the one time where you, unless the sportsbooks are talking directly to LeBron or someone in his camp, you know just as much as they do because of the information that is being reported and leaked out. It's the one time you can try to take advantage of information like this. But as of right now, Cavaliers are the favorites.

14:10Jeff Passan:Who knows? Nobody knows shit right now, but it's probably between those four. Okay, so nobody knows shit. Let's find out. No relation to Jake and Logan. Ladies and gentlemen, founder of Clutch, Rich Paul. Okay! Rich. Okay, Rich. Yes, sir. I'm sick of it. Okay? I am sick of it. Pat, Pat, Pat, what are you sick of? What are you sick of? Relax. I'm going to spend my summer trying to guess whether or not LeBron's going to be an Indiana Pacer or not. When is this coming to an end? You know the answers. Where is he going? We need to answer now. Pat, you know, listen. You know I love my guy Kevin Pritchard and Chad Buchanan over at the Pacers.

14:56You just had Hallie on your show. You're not spending your summer worried about that. And I read the news just as much as you do. You can spend your summer on the moon based upon what I just read. So I have no sympathy for you. Zero. Okay. I am not sympathizing for Pat McAfee. No, I'm not. Okay. I understand. but go ahead but what are we doing so what how do you how do you feel like this is going to go obviously we saw uh by the way incredibly pumped for you with your podcast how's it going rich

15:29Pat McAfee:doing really well rich and obviously the first time an agent especially one that's as influential as you opens up and starts doing regular content there's going to be backlash because it hasn't happened in before we assume that in the future others will be attempting to do the same thing you obviously uh we think good orator good speaker good storyteller and obviously your resume is outrageous. We think it's a good idea. Now you've pissed people off with some of the things and I assume you even learned some lessons throughout the entirety of this first season, but we're all listening to what you're saying.

15:56Pat McAfee:It sounds like what you're saying and we could be wrong. I haven't spoke to you directly about this. I only heard your shit. LeBron is making this decision. LeBron has all the information he needs. LeBron is kind of trying to figure it out for what's best for his family, him, his legacy, what he wants to do with his life. Is that kind of the right thing and then we can kind of just put this to bed until you guys uh until mr james the king decides to tell us he's coming to indiana pacers yeah just have a little patience with with him uh and us obviously pat is his choice uh you know i have a job to do to set the table for him but it's his choice uh and in my conversations with adam which obviously you know adam the greatest commissioner of all leagues um you know we understand where the league is at and things of that nature as it pertains to the schedule but it's a very conflicting thing because this is a very important choice for him you cannot rush it i don't i think he's earned the right not to be rushed and so um it's not a it's not a thing where you're toying with people's emotions or trying to make it about anything more than the fact that hey this man has a very important layer decision to make across business across family across uh basketball and you know um basketball is the business, obviously, but you just have to be patient with him.

17:14I don't know, Pat. I wish I did know. I don't know. I don't. I don't know. That's Connor right there,

17:23Pat McAfee:and I appreciate him doing that, but also I appreciate the fact, and this was just like when Aaron Rodgers was trying to figure out what the hell he wanted to do. Aaron Rodgers has committed his entire life to football, okay? So him deciding whether or not he wants to continue or play somewhere else is a huge decision for him personally. Now, for us as Daily Sports Show, we like that decision to be made. yesterday. Immediately. Yeah, or this morning. We would like that. But on that note, he's played basketball his entire life. Who knows how many more pages this book has of King James' basketball career.

17:52Pat McAfee:What he decides to do with those is a massive decision. A lot of consequences on it. Now, last question here does come from Connor, Rich.

17:59Jeff Passan:Yeah, Rich, I think we all would like to know, is this going to be like a farewell tour just so we can all take it in and enjoy it? Or is this one of those things where it's going to be, you know, he plays a year and then makes another decision just because based on how his body feels, how he's feeling mentally. What is that process like? Connor, I have no idea. You know, I think if you follow his career, he's always been someone to take care of his body and things like that to put himself in a position that when and if he decides to make whatever decision he decides to make in terms of his choice for continuing to play or not continuing to play, it's because he wants to make that choice, not because he has to make that choice.

18:43And I think as a former athlete, you know, I know AJ's on the show and I know Pat's on the show and I'll include myself in there as a former athlete myself. Not you, D-Bot.

18:55I'm sorry. But no, in all seriousness, I think, Pat, when you put yourself in this position, has there ever been someone who gets to a place to where they can honestly decide with full clarity and choosing whatever they decide, whatever they choose as pertains to continuing to play a sport or where you're going to go to continue your professional career with full clarity. Normally, we are manipulated by a financial component. And in this case, he's not. And so, look, I think, like I said to him and I said to you guys, As I said on my show, hopefully your audience is tuning into Game Over Show on Spotify, Netflix, with myself and Max Kellerman.

19:42But I think that it's a very unique position to be in, and it's something that I think, again, you have to be happy for a guy who's earned it. I ask him to find humility and peace while still playing the game, and if he can do that moving forward. I personally don't like to think about the end of it because, you know, he's got so much left in the tank, but that's his choice. You know, he has his family and things of that nature. So, but me personally, I just, I don't like to think about that because he's been so great to us and so great to the game and he's meant so much to the sport. But for now, we don't know, be a little patient.

20:24And he's going to choose whenever he chooses and wherever he goes. I'm going to be ecstatic for him, and I'm sure that fan base will as well.

20:34Pat McAfee:All right. You're the man. We appreciate you stopping by, giving us a little brief glimpse into what's happening behind the scenes. And we agree with what you're saying. LeBron's earned the right to be in this position. And I think LeBron, although he is still the kid from Akron, he understands that the entire world wants to know what he's doing. And I'd want him to know that that should not mean that he should give us an answer sooner than later. But if he wants to come to the Pacers, we'd like to break it right here. That's right. Okay. Okay. Okay. Well, I'll let him know that. I'm sure he'll probably watch it and hear you say it yourself.

21:06I have a question for you, though, Pat. I want to personally invite you to the Clutch Cup. It's on 824. It's a golf outing that is being put together here, being led by Ferris. She's putting it together, her and her team. And it's going to be pretty cool. Amen. You're a friend of the program, so I'm personally inviting you. I might get in trouble for this, but so what? I'm personally inviting you. All right, good. There's going to be a lot of enemies of mine there, but I will certainly come, and I'll appreciate you. And I'll bring these bad boys, you know, that I thought was possible for today.

21:44You're the best, ladies and gentlemen. That's Rich Paul. Yeah, Rich. Yeah, you're the man. You're the man. Okay, joining us now, speaking of golf. Okay, so I'm going to the Clutch. What's it called?

21:53Jeff Passan:Clutch Cup. Clutch Cup. You guys are going, too. What did you say, A24? A24, yeah. He did invite us. Yeah, he did invite us, and I know that date came up yesterday for something. It's a Monday. We got to work. I know what it's for. What is it? Clutch cup.

22:10Adam Schefter:Baseball bet. Softball bet.

22:14Jeff Passan:Oh, Tyrese. That's what it is. Jerry softball game. Sorry, Tyrese. Maybe I can. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Shoot it down a little bit. Yeah. Especially with what he gave me yesterday. I can go represent the clutch cup. I can go represent the Clutch Cup because I wasn't invited to Tyrese Sting. Okay, perfect. You're the only one up here that wasn't. All right, let's move along. Tony James, baby.

22:34Pat McAfee:If we do any golfing, okay, this next person we're about to talk to is somebody that we need to listen to. We need to absorb everything. This man has been able to accomplish something with a swing that I have seen from 75 ,000 amateur golfers. An icon. A man who's fodder and fodder's fodder. were phenomenal athletes for New Zealand. Ladies and gentlemen, the Open winner, major winner, new icon of sport, Ryan Fox. Thanks, guys. How are you, buddy? I'm good. Still a bit surreal. I don't really know what to think. I don't know if you guys can see. Is the Claret Jug in the background or is it too tight?

23:17Pat McAfee:Well, right there, it's perfect. It's perfect. So, yeah, it is real. I don't know what to think, but it's pretty amazing, to be honest. Well, I like the fact that it's right underneath the wine glasses, because I think immediately afterwards you said there's going to be some red wine in there with your New Zealand accent. Awesome. Have you enjoyed the Claret Jug, and has there been a plethora of red wine going through it in celebration of winning a major brother? Congrats. Thank you. Yeah, there has been plenty. I probably jumped the gun a little bit. it went in a little bit too early and then i had to take more official photos and all got tipped out later on but it uh yeah there has been plenty we finished up about 3 a.m on uh on monday morning and i had a car picking me up at 4 15.

24:02so nice it's safe to say i didn't have any sleep before going to the airport and heading back home but um i've even had my five-year-old daughter ask me is there any wine in the claret jug so she gets it yeah well over international waters too i think you probably you know probably could have let it happen i mean you got to do what you got to do as an as an adult and as a parent but i appreciate that there was no uh there was no guide on how to win a major so this is the trophy it's mine yeah give me the fucking i need to uh give me the wine please give me pretty much that's how it works ryan no no no you're gonna go do 10 interviews you're gonna go take photos with it we still need to get the close-up shot of the jug you can't have right all right i'll chug it i guess that is uh spectacular i want to let you know that's very relatable so is your swing can you

24:48Pat McAfee:please tell me about this because i assume you've been told your entire i read your story you didn't start golfing until you're 18 i believe and then when you're 24 i think is whenever you became pro you were going to be a lawyer then you get into golf turns out it works out for you pretty good but your swing and this is crazy for me to say because uh you are actually 2 000 times better than me as a golfer but everything you do in your swing is everything that they told me was wrong I don't transfer my weight from my right foot to my left foot I drop my shoulder so I'm off on the plane I swing inside out and I carry it out there everything that you do emphasize you emphasize even more than I do you're winning majors with and I'm being told I need to get off golf courses can you tell me a little bit about your swing how we got here and has this always just been your swing and you've just stuck with it yeah look it's i would say it's always been my swing it's all like i do have a coach believe me but it's always been like function over form like if the body moves right like i don't really care what it looks like obviously like it doesn't look great but the ball goes where i want it to go most of the time so um look it's i've had a dodgy left ankle that's why my left ankle is way flared out um i've got very little rotation like i'm an ex-rugby player i've still got a rugby player's body basically like nothing moves how it should move compared to most of my peers so i've just got to find a way to kind of get it done and um yeah like i've been pretty lucky in my career so far i've managed to escape some injuries i've obviously had some pretty incredible moments um you know capped off by by last week um and yeah Like, hopefully I can keep doing it for a little while yet.

26:28So, like, yeah, just golf is a great game. Like, it doesn't have to be perfect. Just do whatever works. And, yeah, seeing this go in, this makes everything worthwhile too. Like, it's a dream come true, that. Hell, yeah. And watching you was, it felt like a dream come true. I had no idea it was possible to swing the way you swing and win. And I appreciate your saying, I'm a rugby player, man. The body's been beat to hell here. Okay?

26:49Pat McAfee:It would be really nice to be able to do the full fine. This thing would be really cool. But I got to figure out. You open that left because I had knee surgeries, right? So the rotation here, not great. So I've been told, yeah, open up that front. You kind of got the rotation happening already. To go win a major like that is just unbelievable, the amount of mental toughness. Let's just get the job done here. What are we doing? And the way you go about doing it, I heard you speak a little bit about how your brain's wired for golf. And if you didn't operate in a particular way, you wouldn't be worth a something.

27:19Pat McAfee:Ty has a question for you.

27:20Jeff Passan:Yeah, Ryan, a lot of people were talking about your pace of play, kind of capped off with the biggest moment of your career. You just step up and knock that putt down without really even thinking about it. But I also saw a quote. I think you were playing with Scotty and maybe someone else last year, and Scotty said something to the effect of like, hey, Ryan, it feels like we're playing in a twosome right now, not a threesome, because your ass just gets up there and hits the ball. We don't even see you. Have you always played like that? Because it seems like that is one reason a lot of people maybe get on certain golfers on tour's case because there's all the waggles.

27:53Jeff Passan:They take so much time to hit. Like, it's really refreshing seeing that you kind of treated the Open Championship like you were just playing 18 at a local Muni on Sunday. Yeah, look, I mean, first, like that putt, if you look at that putt I hit on 18, like, I'd done all my work reading the putt before it was my turn to actually hit the putt. Like, I'm ready to go. Like, I know which way it's going to go. So, like, my decision's made. it's just go off and do my routine my routine's quick i think like everything in my head works fast um like i see the shot fast i make the decision fast like my routine's fast i'm glad i kept that same thing you know with a chance to win the major um that's yeah it would have been really easy to get out of that routine and that's what i've done my whole career and i think the reason i probably started it like when i first started playing golf when i was a kid with my dad like I'd have clubs in the backyard and whatever but the first time I go to a golf course dad's playing like corporate days and charity days and stuff like that back in New Zealand and you know he's got his eight ten year old tagging along and wanting to play um but you know I'm playing with the big boys at the time like I just want to get out of their way like I don't want to annoy anyone I just I'm just real chuffed to be there and like hey just let me let me play I'll play real quick I won't you know I won't annoy any of you and that's just kind of stayed the same way i think the whole way through i like that your style of play is sorry sorry sorry yep sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry yep sorry sorry yeah it's uh i want to let you know

29:32Pat McAfee:as a viewer spectacular yeah but i think for the tv networks now they were trying to oh yeah i'm i keep them on their toes definitely yeah yeah especially when you get on tbox about to win a damn major, you know, and they're like, he might fucking hit it before we get back through the playthrough thing. Hey, they're running like four commercials during that now. Used to be just, they've really gimmicked that a bit. Oh, yeah.

29:55Jeff Passan:Used to be commercial free the last two hours.

29:58Pat McAfee:Pretty good idea, though, whenever you got this legend. Ball and balls. You just mentioned having a chuff out there with your dad. Legend. We just looked up his highlights. This guy could boot balls. I mean, he was a rugby stud back there. Did he do the because we know the all-blacks, the Haka. Was he a part of all that? He had a lustrous career now. This guy, one of the best of, they're saying one of the best ever kickers in the history of New Zealand rugby or something.

30:28Jeff Passan:One of the greatest fly halves of all time. What is it? Fly halves. Oh, a fly half? One of the greatest fly halves of all time. He holds multiple world records still in the Rugby Cup. But speaking of your father, Ryan, because of that and how successful he was and just like kind of growing up as the son of a great rugby player and then choosing golf. What was that first conversation like with your father after winning? Because I assume that was kind of a weight almost lifted off your shoulders, winning a major championship. Yeah, look, I had – I think you probably saw the conversation in the little room afterwards, the holding room or whatever it was.

31:05I got to call my wife and kids and also got to call mom and dad. and I think dad, he was pretty lost for words, which doesn't happen very much for him, to be honest. I think he would have been a nervous wreck. He's a guy, he was always renowned as cool and calm under pressure, like obviously goal kicking to try to win games and stuff like that. You have to be able to deal with pressure. But when he wasn't in control, he's pretty terrible with stuff. So I imagine he was pacing around the living room, just not knowing what to think coming down those last few holes there. So I kind of would have liked to have been a fly on the wall and see how that played out at home back in New Zealand.

31:44But, yeah, look, he gave up a lot. He used to caddy for me when I was playing amateur golf. He caddy for me even a bit into my professional career. Like, he was always there. Like, there was never any pressure to carry on in his footsteps to play rugby or anything like that. So I'm looking forward to taking this little trophy home behind me and sharing a little drink out of it with him. It was a tradition in rugby. There's something called the Bledderslow Cup, New Zealand versus Australia. Apparently, it fits 42 beers in it. Apparently. Apparently. So that was always a tradition for them to drink beers out of the Bledderslow Cup if you win the Bledderslow Cup.

32:21And I've been lucky enough to do it with the current All Black team last year and back in New Zealand. So, yeah, I think it's tradition to drink something out of the Claret jug and it probably should be Claret, to be honest.

32:32Pat McAfee:apparently there is how many wine glasses in the claret i don't know oh we haven't found out yet oh we haven't found out i know i've there has been multiple bottles go through it but only one at a time i haven't tested how many actually fit in it yeah it's operating as a carousel right now not a parking lot we will uh we will certainly find out someday okay let's talk about about uh talk about winning that thing go ahead d but yeah right

33:00Adam Schefter:I just want to know what changed going into the weekend. You're tied for 52nd going into the weekend. And then after you stood at 62 on Saturday and then Sunday, you birdie four, your last six, including the big one on 18 to avoid the playoffs. So what changed between the ears mentally for you when you went out to that course on Saturday? You nailed that. Honestly, not, not that much. I felt like I played really good on Thursday and you know, I just putted like a donkey, to be honest. I was awful on the greens on Thursday. And then I had a really good patch through the middle of the round on Friday and felt like I was playing really good.

33:35I was 4-under for the round on Friday and made a couple of bogeys coming home but made the cut. The conditions are a lot more scorable early on. I kind of felt like a Saturday, if I can get out early and shoot a score, I've got a chance of having a decent week. I didn't quite think I'd shoot 62. Getting to play with Xander as well, that was just a day where everything went in. I had everything where I wanted to. and I didn't hit a very good putt for 61 here, but I was probably a bit nervous over that putt too. To be honest, knowing there was a little bit of history involved to have a chance of shooting the best score in major history and then Sunday I just kind of kept those same feelings going and I'm not sure how mentally I managed it on Sunday.

34:17I look back on it now and it feels really scary and intimidating, but being in the actual position, I felt in control. I felt like my game was good and like I hold everything down the stretch. Like it's golf's a funny game. Like with all the nerves, putting is almost the hardest thing. And I just felt really comfortable at that point. And like, I've seen the last hole. Now you guys are playing like, this is the best hole I could potentially ever play in golf. Like it was three perfect shots right there with a chance to win a major championship. Like I would never have dreamed of being able to do that or having the mental strength to be able to do it.

34:53Pat McAfee:Hey, by the way, congratulations on finding out that you can do it. Yeah, let's go. Hey, that's a cool thing to learn about yourself, I think. You know, and I was a kicker punter in college and then in the NFL, just a punter. And, you know, a lot of eyes, a lot of pressure moment. If you mess up, everybody's going to know it's you. And nowhere near the amount of reps that you guys have. But there is like a certain like, I think I'm ready for the moment. I think so. You know, and then you get into it. Like I was punting in the Super Bowl. I didn't know how to punt. And Reggie Bush was the returner.

35:22Pat McAfee:So that was like a fun. Yeah, that was a fun thing. That would be tough. Yeah, but that was like a fun thing for me to like get through. It's like, all right, you had to go out there and do your job. You did your job. And they're blaming a lot of people for the Super Bowl loss and you're not one of them. So let's just go ahead and move forward. That was a big deal for me. Felt like a big weight off my shoulders. For you, I assume the same thing for you immediately afterwards. It's like I knew I put in a lot of work for this moment. I didn't know if I was going to be able to do it. I did it. Hell yeah, me, first of all.

35:48Pat McAfee:But also the rest of your life now, a little bit different because you got the you know kind of the monkey off your back uh metaphorically if that makes sense yeah look i think i've achieved more than i probably ever thought i could achieve when i turned pro and at the end of 2011 like i've had a great career even before winning last week i would have taken it and then this is just like beyond my wildest dreams so like yeah now i've got i've got a bit to think about like where do i go from here like try to refocus I obviously want to keep playing for longer. There's some other stuff that I'd like to achieve, like getting in the President's Cup team was a big goal.

36:26I think I probably should be okay for that later in the year now. We're going to beat your ass, but yes. I hope not, but I'll be trying my best to make sure that doesn't happen. No, no, the guys are actually going to fight you. We're actually going to fight this year. I'd back myself in a fight. I reckon I'd go okay in a fight. No, your old rugby ass can't take it anymore. We've seen those hips, pal. I can't run after people. If someone hits me and run off, I won't chase them. But if they stand there, I reckon I can throw one back.

36:56Jeff Passan:I reckon so as well. I reckon as well.

36:59Pat McAfee:Okay, so obviously these goals that you have laid out are much more attainable, like President's Cup and everything like that. But I just want to let you know from a golf popularity standpoint, and I just speak for one doofus here in Indiana, I mean, you want me over immediately. And I feel like, and maybe this is wrong, but i watch flight of the concord so i feel like i know your country pretty good uh okay was that right i guess i was right yeah yeah okay so it feels like you are a humble bunch it does feel like the new zealand crowd is a humble bunch is is kind of my takeaway we are okay and uh self uh it feels like it's a really good culture and i just want to let you know i think golf people are not only fell in love with you but i'm excited for our journey alongside of you here man actually like legitimately i'm pumped to be a fan of yours i think i'm not the only one saying that well thank you i appreciate that i mean i like i felt it i checked a little bit of social media i'm trying to catch up on anything everything at the moment like it's been a whirlwind last 48 hours or so and the amount of like positive things i've heard like from the from the commentary from the crowd out there from just random comments i've seen like it's been unreal like i don't know i really don't know what's coming for me in the next couple of months to be honest i think it's going to be a shock to the system, but I'm going to look forward to the ride, that's for sure.

38:19Pat McAfee:Yeah, you've earned it, pal. Never forget it. Okay, last question as we talk about the future of golf. Go ahead, Tone.

38:24Jeff Passan:Yeah, Ryan, there was some news today. The PGA Tour, the DP World Tour, and the Asian Tour, they came together and continued their partnership for now multi-years moving forward. Obviously you as an international player who's played on all three of these tours. I was just saying, how big is this for international players and international kids who are trying to come up, make the PGA Tour, and play in majors like you have? Look, I've only just seen the news this morning, obviously. I've got a few other things going on too, but that's huge for golf, I think. I have played on all three tours, which is pretty amazing.

39:03And being an international, golf is big outside America. I know golf's big in America. Really? It exists out there? Yeah, it does. It really does. Like, there is a lot of good players from around the world, and they have that pathway now from the Asian tour is amazing. And I think it's just – it's going to be great for golf going forward to have the tours working together like that.

39:26Pat McAfee:All right, so United States did not win the World Cup. No. Okay, we all saw it. Yep. You need to know we need to win the President's Cup. Yeah, because we didn't win the Ryder Cup either. Yeah, we need to win the President's Cup too. the international needs to win it at some point and I'm gonna be trying my best to make sure that happens this time no but maybe you take your time when you're golfing out there slow it down no no no no no no definitely not get on that tee box look around I want a major let me do a whole one of those then get over that ball and then just start thinking yourself what am I doing yeah yeah what am I trying to do for swing though yeah just take your time yeah that's why I take my time there is way too many things that can pop into my hair like it's easier if you go quicker you just go i gotta hit it there and edit that's why i do it half of the time just don't let the bad thoughts creep in yeah that's what we're saying at the president's cup yeah a couple waggles has the us done well no no no i don't know i don't need i don't need to do that we're gonna try to get your number and you know i don't know if you saw the uh mexican soccer fans outside of the england hotel we're gonna be doing the same thing your phone before president's we're gonna be blowing that thing up okay we need it we've only won 10 in a row what yeah only 10 that doesn't sound like a lot we need 11 though because have you heard about the boston redsox oh yeah that's the real ryan you're the man we appreciate you so much for joining us congratulations we cannot wait to watch the rest of your career and uh thank you for taking the time out of your busy life and especially time out of chugging red wine out of that that jug to uh chit chat with us thanks guys appreciate it i've got the whole year to drink red wine out of it i'll be good does your debt and I will be utilizing the entire year.

41:05Is your dad still kick? Can your dad still kick? No, he's had a couple of knee replacements as it is. So he's no good with that. He can still kick with his left foot, which is really frustrating for me.

41:16Pat McAfee:Yeah, with the ankle, you know, yeah. All right, I appreciate you. You're the man, ladies and gentlemen, Ryan Fox. Yeah, Ryan! Favorite golfer. Yeah, very likable. Bar none. The New Zealand people, just super duper, like the most humble, worthy, dumbest of all time. Like it feels like that's what I learned from Flair the Concord. yeah play the concords comedy on hbo uh i watched it i was like oh i've been in new zealand before i saw jermaine and brett they kind of broke it all day and murray geez that guy outrageous so i i mean that is their culture so it feels like having massive success doesn't really you know necessarily like change you yeah but i do appreciate the fact that he got to have the moment with himself at some point where it's like hey man we showed up holy because you don't know until you know you know and that convo afterwards is like a cool thing like let's acknowledge what which is, you know, long time wondering if it was going to.

42:05Pat McAfee:He said, I also appreciate that a major was on the line and I went really fast. He said, I appreciate that. It was like him learning in real time. Like, all right, well, I still do it. When the biggest thing is on the line, I absolutely will. Because there's been a lot of people probably told him, you need to slow down. You need to think this thing through. You need to do this. And he's like, no, this is how I play. This is how I play. And then he learned in real time, in the biggest moment of his life, will he stick to it? And he did. And he drains it. And it's like, that had to be such a freeing moment for Ryan Fox, who had question marks probably, no matter how much success he's had.

42:32Pat McAfee:And it's like, I'm very happy for that guy.

42:34Jeff Passan:And that feels like the normal thing, where it's like kind of a golfer that you're not really aware of that hasn't won a major yet, where down the stretch, they melt. Like Deba mentioned, he hit bogey on 15. I mean, he put the thing into the sandbox, and all of a sudden it's like, oh, okay, here we go. Ryan Fox is going to melt bogeys, and then comes back with a birdie par birdie to finish. And those last three shots, he even said it, like to hit three perfect shots back to back to back to win a major. Like, I assume that is basically what you dream of as a golfer growing up. And for him to be a guy that started really at 18 makes it even more special.

43:10Yeah, he's going to be a lawyer.

43:12Adam Schefter:Yeah. And it's only him, like, who – well, obviously his family is probably close friends who can even, like, realistically imagine some shit like that actually happen. Like, Rory, Scottie, you know, Bryce and all these guys, you know, were phenoms when they were 12, 13. So it was like, okay, at some point this guy is going to be the guy, the face of golf. that was never kind of a reality for him until it actually happened at 39. That's insane.

43:33Pat McAfee:I hope he continues to go.

43:35Adam Schefter:Yeah.

43:36Pat McAfee:And I think he will. But he even said it in there. I got to figure out how to get refocused on the – I don't want to say John Deere because if John Deere's involved, it's a big deal. But the Rocket super-duper – Mortgage. Next week somewhere. That's a funny thing. He's like, all right, now I got to figure out this one matters. Yeah, this one still matters. Okay, this one still – But it is a bonus. Everything he's doing now is bonus because he'll always be a major champion. Yeah. Like that is a huge – you win one Super Bowl, you're always a Super Bowl champion. You make one Pro Bowl, you're always a Pro Bowler.

44:09Pat McAfee:You make one All-Pro, they'll always call you an All-Pro. It's like you win one major forever, that's a major winner. And you're introduced differently into every room that you step foot into. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, somebody that might be breaking some news here shortly that would certainly change how all of college sports works. live from SEC Media Days is a Big Ten icon, college football legend, friend of the program, ladies and gentlemen, joining us, college football analyst and insider for ESPN, Heather Dinney. Yeah, Heather! Heather, you're a little blurry, but we're not going to blame.

44:43Pat McAfee:We understand through the blur. That's like you look like you're a 380p right now, I would say, but you look amazing. Thank you for joining us, Miss Heather. Thank you. Thanks for having me on, guys. Okay, feels like a lot of the news out of the SEC Media Days has been things that aren't necessarily just the SEC. For instance, Michigan AD stepping down at the end of the year. That comes through SEC Media Days. College football separating into a Super League away from the NCAA is a possibility. You said it was a possibility or something like that. It felt like you were more positive about it than we thought would ever potentially be real.

45:18Pat McAfee:Is there a chance for a Super League of college football that breaks away from the NCAA rulers? And why would that happen? And when would that happen, Ms. Heather? Okay, let's hit the reset button for a second. Not Super League. What we're talking about here is the SEC specifically separating from the NCAA. Here's why. Because if they don't get federal legislation, university presidents and chancellors and SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey in this league are saying we need to create our own rules. What does that mean? What does that look like? Like, well, not just football, Pat, but you could be seeing SEC softball and baseball and basketball all just playing each other in an SEC centric league.

46:02Why? Because part of it is, well, you can say, hey, football, you have 40 million dollars for your roster. Softball, you have 10 million or whatever it is for your rosters. Right. So everyone is playing with the same rules, the same salary caps and the same just playing by the same rules. Right. But Greg Sankey said that that's not the preference. And I want to go back to your Super League question. Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petiti and Greg Sankey have both said publicly that no one is talking about a Super League. What we are talking about, what SEC is talking about is them separating from the NCAA only if they don't get federal legislation to help and to antitrust with protection for the NCAA.

46:48So I'll stop there. What else do you have for me?

46:51Pat McAfee:Okay, so everybody wants the NCAA to be able to rule. They want somebody, a ruling party of some sort, is what everybody seemingly wants. But then we read the Protect College Sports Act, and then there's a bunch of things in there that allegedly nobody in sport knew about, that I guess politicians snuck in at the last second or something like that. Classic Washington, D.C. The Protect College Sports Act, which I think is an offspring of the SCORE Act, I believe. I don't want to get too deep into it all. but then there's all that type of stuff happening. We need something to pass. Everybody agrees that we need something to pass, but nobody can agree on all the other shit that's going around it, so will anything ever pass is kind of the question that I'm asking.

47:30Pat McAfee:Sankey and Petiti saying we're not talking about Super League. We're just talking about leaving the NCAA independently. Then you wouldn't... And then if you guys plucked a couple teams from Big 12 and from ACC...

47:44Jeff Passan:That wouldn't be Super League. The definition of a Super League. Yeah, would they still play for national championships? I think they would just call it a Super League championship. And congratulations, you won a Super League national championship. Or do they play the national championship?

47:59Pat McAfee:Is that inevitable? Are we going to get some ruling, you think, in D.C. that gets some sort of ruling body? Because the NCAA, they can rule on hamburgers. They can rule on texting whenever you're not supposed to text. But they can't rule on$10 million,$20 million because they just get sued immediately and they have no say in anything. So all anybody wants is the NCAA to have a little bit of power. Is that accurate? And do we think we're anywhere near that happening, Miss Heather? I'm going to give you my personal opinion. And the answer is I don't. And it's because I know how Congress works. And it's a now or never deal right now, because if they can't find a compromise and get this done, the Senate's out of session in August.

48:34Yet the senators fly home and then you're in an election year. And I promise you, the new senators who are coming into their new office on the first day of work, the last thing they want to do is fix college athletics. And so if this doesn't happen now and if it doesn't get to the Senate floor for a vote this month, I personally will be shocked if it ever happens. But, Pat, you've got to look at the Big 12 and Texas Tech and Brendan Soresby as an example for the possibility. Texas Tech, the NCAA reached a new low because they couldn't even enforce their own gambling laws. Right. So the Big 12 said, hey, we're going to file this lawsuit.

49:12We have our own laws and we should have the right to enforce them. You can't gamble in our league and play football, right? So to me, that was a big example of how conferences can try to regulate themselves. That's not going to end all litigation. There's lawsuits left and right all over the place. But people in college athletics are sick of this. They are tired of not being able to enforce rules, including the very basic rule of you can't gamble in college sports, especially on your own team.

49:44Pat McAfee:It's also interesting because I guess if the conferences just kind of take their own control, then what is the NCAA and then what rules are in and what rules aren't in and what does the SEC get to do that the Big Ten won't agree to or what would the Big 12 do that maybe somebody else can't do? I mean, come on, I don't like you painting a picture of, and then they go on recess where they don't do anything. I don't know if they do anything on a daily basis. But then they actually have to go. Monkey bars, yeah. They get some chocolate milk, and they get their crayons out, and they do that entire thing.

50:15Jeff Passan:But jobs.

50:16Pat McAfee:And then we got an election year coming up, so you know they're not. Yeah, I don't give a shit about college football.

50:20Jeff Passan:Yeah, there's no way they're going to be able to get there.

50:22Pat McAfee:I don't like you doing all the very accurate things that you were doing right there. Okay? Because I'm scared to death about it. I'm actually pretty scared about this, especially as somebody that has, you know, even more so of a rooting interest in, like, West Virginia at this point. And I, like, I love the opportunities that West Virginia is providing for a lot of dogs in football. Super League, like West Virginia, obviously, getting invited because of how awesome it is. Sure. Rich Rod? Let's remember that.

50:44Jeff Passan:I don't know. Yeah, let's remember that. Sankey, Petiti. I don't know. West Virginia is awesome. Yes, they are. That's what we need to continue to do.

50:53Adam Schefter:I think they make it. UConn isn't ever. Colorado State, maybe. We're figuring some stuff out. No, Colorado State actually got UConn's coach, which we did not expect. Hey, we got our coach, all right? Coach Kendall. Threw out the first pitch for Boston Red Sox, actually. How'd he do? Right before the 14th win. What'd he do? How'd he do? Burn it right down the middle. He didn't throw it out last week. Yeah, he did. Yeah, he did. Got him a dub. Did it skip? Did it skip or did it catch? Of course not. Right on the paint nibbling the edge. It's 91. All right, well. Splitter. You better watch it because Idaho State might need a coach.

51:25Yeah. Yeah. And if they're seeing them pitch like that. It'll come calm. I don't know.

51:28Pat McAfee:But the whole independent thing for five years that they were saying that you would have to do if you try to move up. It's like, obviously, none of the schools, UConn would potentially have to do. It's just, we need something, Heather. So why don't you go ahead and move out? Okay, let's go to SEC Media Days, SEC Football. Go ahead, Tone.

51:44Jeff Passan:Yeah, Heather, let's get through the minutia. All that's very, very fun to talk about. But who is the, is Lane the bell of the ball? Is he the talk of the town down at SEC Media Days this week? Or is someone else stealing the show? Thanks, John, a football question. I love you guys. Yeah, listen, Lane is always the talk of the town. I can't wait till he gets here because every time he speaks, he makes a headline. But I'm honestly genuinely curious about how good their football team is going to be because you got a whole, you got a lot of talent. You spend a gajillion dollars on your roster. All the pieces are in place.

52:17But you got Clemson coming in for the season opener. I'm going to that game. I can't wait. But LSU plays the 11th toughest schedule in the entire country. We know that game against Ole Miss is going to have playoff implications, other storylines. I asked Lane this spring what his relationship is like with Pete Golding and Ole Miss, and he said he had a one-liner he was going to use. He declined to. I'm hoping that at SEC Media Days here, we got a little more out of him on what that relationship's like.

52:44Pat McAfee:I'm excited for Lane to do anything. Yeah. He's just a lightning rod, this guy. I didn't know enough about the college football landscape. I definitely didn't know enough about Lane Kiffin as that was all happening last year. And I was just talking about how I feel about the situation. Little I know, I was about to end up in the middle of the entire conspiracy thing that was going on to get him to wherever the hell he was going to go. I mean, that was an interesting thing to find myself. McAfee, save it. I'm like, well, I think he's just a state on this. I did think that. I just didn't know why you would just sign up for the inevitable hell, chaos that was going to come from that, especially in the middle of a playoff run.

53:24Pat McAfee:They could have won a national championship. In my eyes, just in my naive mind is what people would tell me in college football. In my naive mind, that felt like a really good spot in a place like Signetti at Indiana. This is your entire thing. And then all the college football people were like, yeah, right. You can't turn down that job. You go to Louisiana. You can get down to Louisiana. Mississippi, you think they got? there's a seven star that just got born in Louisiana. He doesn't even know he's playing football yet. And then guess what? Another one. Another one. That's how they basically talk about Louisiana.

54:07Pat McAfee:And it's like, you talk about a statue at Ole Miss, it's like Lane might win 100. Ed Orgren, who's back on staff, won a national championship there. What do you think Lane's going to be able to do? It's basically the entire pitch from the football people. But I'm like, all right, I guess it's a good play. We're going to find out. And this transfer portal. Yeah. Yeah. They did it. Number one, all the recruits.

54:30Jeff Passan:They did it. Yeah.

54:30Pat McAfee:I mean, everything that they said was going to happen with Lane there has happened. Now we find out if it's going to be on the field or not. I'm interested, though.

54:36Jeff Passan:Lane has kind of recently, because they always talk about the transfer portal and the recruits and the money that they spend. He has kind of tried to temper expectations as of late. So I'm excited to see how he comes up. Too late.

54:46Pat McAfee:Well, that's not just for him. That's also for the locker room. Yeah. Hey, listen, boys. We got to run our race here. That's what he has to say as a coach. I'm excited to watch it. Heather, we cannot wait to get on the road this college football season. We'll see you out there. Thank you for joining us. Sounds good. Thanks, guys. That's Heather Dunn. Thank you, Heather. Dude, how about just the NCAA having no power forever? That's what it sounds like.

55:07Jeff Passan:Would they like it, by the way? Like, sweet, make your own conference. We don't have to deal with it.

55:11Pat McAfee:No, because then if you become irrelevant, then you lose your business. I guess they could still run March Madness forever.

55:15Jeff Passan:Yeah, but how does that work if the Big Ten and the SEC are leaving? does that mean that they only leave for football and then they can still be involved in basketball?

55:22Pat McAfee:That's interesting. Can you say you guys can keep basketball and regulate volleyball and baseball and all of that football we're taking away from you? Because BCS came in and bought it from the NCAA. They bought the right to name a champion because you were the BCS champion, you weren't the national champion, and you went to the NCAA headquarters. The national champions were the D2, D3, D1, 2A. I don't know what they call them anymore. The one below. FCS now.

55:51Jeff Passan:Football subdivision. There it is.

55:52Pat McAfee:I apologize. You know who I'm talking about. They were the national champions at the NCAA headquarters. It wasn't who was the BCS champion. So they actually sold the rights to name a champion to the BCS. And then obviously now it's college football playoff. They have a deal with NCAA. But the deal the NCAA has with its entire constituents is don't eat hamburgers when you're not supposed to eat hamburgers.

56:13Jeff Passan:Don't say their names either. Listen, if they commit on a program and you're on a program just two minutes afterwards, don't even fucking see their name. Let's go rule. If you do, they send that kid to the rival school. No, they can't do that because they ain't get sued. And that is not great for society, I would say, that somebody can make a ruling and then immediately you can just sue them and not be able to have any power at all forever.

56:37Pat McAfee:And that's kind of what's happening in the NCAA right now. Charlie Baker told us that whenever he was here. We need some sort of litigation to give us some power. help. That's what we need here. We're coming up on a hard out here for the first hour. Very thankful and lucky to be here. Actual. Very grateful and honored to be a part of ESPN for the foreseeable future. We're lucky to do it. We'll be back on the other side. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice.

57:07Pat McAfee:We're the absolute greatest. We're so incredibly lucky and thankful that we get a chance to chat about it every single day. And that only happens because of all of you.

57:23Pat McAfee:We're grateful for that. The talk today was here at Boston Connor and Ty Schmidt. One half of the hammer. Cowboys AP Tone is here. Nine year NFL vet Darius J.

57:31Adam Schefter:Butler is here. D-Buck is here, pal. It's great to be here, man. We're so, so close. I almost came this close to saying football. Oh, Gordon, yeah.

57:38Jeff Passan:I was actually thinking about this morning when it's going to happen. Yeah. Yeah, because what did you guys say last Monday? It was dongs. Yeah, big dongs. Big old dongs. Big dongs. Do you remember that? Some people just say, yep. Aspies. Big Vaney. Aspies. Last week. I don't think I heard Big Vaney. Someone did. I did not hear that. What? Was that him? Was that him?

57:59Adam Schefter:Absolutely not. I had to see that World Cup trophy keep popping up. Well, yeah, that's a little much.

58:05Pat McAfee:What are you talking about that thing?

58:06Adam Schefter:Yeah. Me in seventh grade for no reason at all.

58:11Pat McAfee:Yeah, on the bus rolling in. Interesting times, yeah. I've seen a lot of that inflatable penis-looking trophy certainly go fully erect out there before. A great halftime performance. I didn't know how much the World Cup halftime performance was going to get scrutinized. I thought it was fun.

58:27Jeff Passan:There's a lot of people talking about it.

58:29Pat McAfee:There's a lot of people talking about it. Chris Martin. I appreciate everything

58:32Jeff Passan:Shakira, Shakira I mean That was a good question to ask How come Madonna didn't get out on the field? She was just in a tunnel? Yeah In that car? Ronaldo driving the car That was comedy Yeah, I don't know And then Biebs, by the way Just him and a guitar Yep That's all Biebs needs Exactly He should have played a slower song I think so I was let down by Biebs Yeah, I was hoping What do you guys want?

58:53Adam Schefter:Baby No No Is it too late?

58:56Jeff Passan:How about Despacito? Yeah Oh, that would have been awesome Especially because Yeah If you played Sorry.

59:01Pat McAfee:Is it too late to say sorry? What if you want to do that? Play it Hallelujah. Okay? Let everybody know. Sure. Love the Lord. Appreciate the Lord. Appreciate that. And then what if he goes, because everybody's like, come on, this is getting boring. And he's like, is it too late to say sorry? And he'll be like, no, not too late. Keep going. This thing's 27, 28 minutes long, I think. Yeah. Is this the longest halftime? It was. Of all time. It feels like we got 45 different chapters here. I love everything about it. Shout out to the World Cup.

59:27Adam Schefter:Shout out. It do Luke. Johnny. I didn't know his name. I didn't know that's how that was pronounced. It looks like it's Gianni, but I heard the president just call him Johnny. Did a good job.

59:38Jeff Passan:Hey, Johnny. I guess I'm the super genius for saying, yeah, Johnny, let's do it.

59:42Pat McAfee:He said that straight face right into him.

59:43Jeff Passan:We already filed for the next one. Yeah, and I think we're trying to get the next one after that, too,

59:47Pat McAfee:because I think Johnny, if I'm not mistaken, is trying to get 400 countries into this thing.

59:50Jeff Passan:That's full.

59:51Pat McAfee:As many as we can get. Let's get the March Madness tournament packed. And I'll tell you this. If it's going to fill up more nights of just games and atmospheres that we saw throughout the entirety of this particular World Cup across our country and Mexico and Canada. I'm about about it. Those types of environments are awesome. I think I could watch anything if it had that environment. I'm being 100 % serious. If they were playing that game that Ryan Fox's granddaddy played. Cricket. Is that this one?

1:00:16Jeff Passan:Yeah. I'd have to learn the rules, but yeah. Yeah, but if the atmosphere was buzzing the entire time, I think you could catch me watching that thing. You could hit it backwards and it's still fine. Yeah, but I think you're playing – I think it's like rundown. We play like rundown, how you got to get back in before. Yeah, before the – Yeah, and I think a deflection hit does count as one. But you got to be able to really – Yeah, you got to be able to split the wickets big time. Yeah. Over the top, straight over the top. And then – Yep. And then, all right, reset. All right. It's like Jason Hansen hitting those kickoffs.

1:00:46Pat McAfee:That guy used to run from the 10-yard line to hit a kickoff. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a man who's a college football national champion, Super Bowl champion, Ryder Cup winner, A.J. Hawk. Yeah, Hawk. Hawker love Ryan Fox. I don't know if you got a chance to hear our conversation with him. I love that lad down there from New Zealand.

1:01:01Jeff Passan:Yeah, how can you not? I mean, everything about him is just how he carries himself. And I love how you talked about his swing over and over again, just how unique it is, I guess. But I thought it was very honestly, like, that's a real thing, saying, like, how about you? Like, now you prove to yourself that this works. Like, how you play, what you do, your pace. Like, now you're justified for the rest of your life. Like, hey, it can be done this way. We don't have to take three months over every shot.

1:01:23Pat McAfee:Now, golf is a fickle, fickle game. He even mentioned that. There's a chance that he might have to change his swing at some point. Like, that happens to golfers. Golfers have to change their swings because, you know, they start thinking, start overthinking, and then it becomes paralysis by overanalysis, which is why he tries not to think at all. But there will come some time where something will happen. We'll see it, and we'll go, ooh, is he going to have to adjust? And I would like to say after meeting him, talking to him, he's a rugby lad, and he loves that there's 42 beers in that. I think he'll be just fine.

1:01:53Pat McAfee:I think this guy's going to be just fine going forward. and I kind of like latching my saddle to the fox horse.

1:02:00Jeff Passan:Yeah.

1:02:01Pat McAfee:I kind of like that I've done that. The fox horse? Yeah, because I got the fox horse in the barn almost, and it's like, hey, we need to saddle that bad boy and ride that New Zealander. I don't think he would like us on his back. You know, he said he's got a hip. Yeah, right. He could do it.

1:02:12Jeff Passan:But he would figure it out if he had to get us. I just noticed, though, he's the one golfer. I don't think you asked him to analyze your swing. Well, because it is his swing. Yeah. He was saying, that thing looks perfect. Yeah. I mean, everything I've been told. Perfect swing pot. They're like, hey, don't look like a C. You know, they say, you look like a C. We need you not to look like a C because you're never going to be able to hit the ball pure. Remember, you're supposed to hit the ball first. So they always say, I get four lean on that thing. You can't go back like this. And Ryan Fox is like, shot it, please.

1:02:43I'm taking that thing. And I'm going to go through the ground with it. I still don't know how he's getting compression on that ball like that. But we'll figure it out. We'll get to the bottom of it. Somewhere. We'll get to the bottom of it for sure.

1:02:55Jeff Passan:It's just like the toilets. Down under, you do everything opposite, and it just works for them. But also – Australia's down under. Okay. Two different countries. Yeah, you get it. And continents. For me, it's the same. But that's the other thing, too. You mentioned it with the kind of UN1 major. Like, he's basically New Zealand John Daly. Like, he is good forever. I don't know what Hooters situation they have there. Maybe it is Hooters, but he should be the face of it immediately. And it feels like he's a blue-collar golfer. They call keywords. From a blue-collar town. Nobody's lost. Nobody's found.

1:03:31JD, what a legend. Hope you're good, John. Love you, John. We're going to pivot away from golf, and now we're going to go to award season. Whoa. Yeah, I have to do it.

1:03:42Pat McAfee:Ladies and gentlemen, it's the first time we've ever done this. AJ, I don't even know if you know this is happening.

1:03:47Jeff Passan:We'll see. I think I know. I think I have a good idea. I got a one-sheeter with it.

1:03:54Pat McAfee:I just want to let you know you have a great haircut right now. I'm happy you got dressed up for this occasion. I'm happy that you look incredibly fresh right now because we're giving out our first ever real big-time award.

1:04:05Jeff Passan:Huge. Deebo, we're kind of nervous about this. I am. We start to worry about how important things become whenever we just create them out of nowhere because we want to do something. Correct.

1:04:16Pat McAfee:But only one person has ever been named or worried about the name. So this might be...

1:04:21Jeff Passan:It's like our Lifetime Achievement Award.

1:04:22Pat McAfee:Yeah. Yeah, what do they call those things? The big ones that they win in those awards? The big award. What's that called? Super Bowl MVP? The Oscars. Oscars. No, the one. The World Peace one. Oh, Nobel Peace Prize. We're not saying this on a saying level. A Pulitzer.

1:04:39Jeff Passan:Pretty fucking close, though. Pulitzer, yeah. Like, legit. It's like being on the front of time. First of the year. Okay, we're not saying that, but could be, because we've only given one. I don't know how many they've given a lot. Some of those are poorly. Sometimes questionable. Ladies and gentlemen, congratulations.

1:04:55Pat McAfee:Well, and also, the ones on the magazine, they say most impactful, whether good or bad. So I think it's different than us. We are giving this award because they've earned this award. Yeah, right. Okay, so I think maybe not that magazine.

1:05:06Jeff Passan:Those bad people earned it, too. They got to do some stuff. But not this award. No, not this one. This is the Nobel. It's the heir apparent to the Nobel Peace Prize.

1:05:15Adam Schefter:There it is. Yeah. I mean, wow. And it's our first one? Yeah. First time. Ladies and gentlemen, we'd like to announce our first ever, first team, all time, good guy, J.J. Watt. Wow! J.J.! I don't know if you saw this. J.J. obviously should have potentially won this award already for what he did for the city of Houston and everything that he has done. But if you saw what he did to that Utah soccer team when they left his wife off the post. Oh, boy. Oh, my God. I read that. I just thought to myself, yes. Thank you for doing that, by the way, JJ. But also, I appreciate the fact that we got to learn a little bit about Kealia here.

1:06:00Jeff Passan:Yeah. Monster. Yeah. Four-time state champ. Why? In that state that they're in. Obviously, National Player of the Year. I think they scored first goal right here in massive pivotal moment. Maybe give her a little bit of a shout-out, okay? Because I'm at home, and it's hell. Okay? So, he says that. and we go, wow, JJ, how could he become

1:06:20Pat McAfee:an even better guy right now? Don't worry, lad tweets him and says, hey man, I was just in the same place as you, I didn't want to bother you, whatever. JJ responds and says, where are you at, dude, you still in the area? JJ goes and gets a beer with this random guy. Crazy. He just goes and gets a beer, he goes and meets up with this guy, tweets him. Hey, could be a psycho killer. Could be. Could be a psycho killer. Hey, JJ, I'm watching you, okay, I see where you're at, I just didn't want to come interrupt you. JJ goes, hey, listen, man, where are you at? Let me go. Meets up with him. It's like, hey, you know what, J.H.?

1:06:50You're first-team all-time good guy.

1:06:52Jeff Passan:Yeah. That's J.J. Wally's.

1:06:54Pat McAfee:Let's go, J.J. Call him. Would you like an acceptance speech from J.J.? Let's see if he's able to answer. The all-time good guy would want to answer at this exact moment and give an acceptance speech.

1:07:03Jeff Passan:Don't forget he put Freddie up in that beautiful hotel suite up in Houston. I mean, this dude. FIFA German fan Freddie. That's what we're saying, though. Like, only one first-team all-time good guy. Yeah. J.J. Watt. Yeah. We're lucky he's representing the NFL. We're lucky he's representing football. Ladies and gentlemen, joining us now to give an acceptance speech for an award that I'm not sure he knew he won or not. J.J. Watley. Yeah, J.J.! J.J.! J.J.! J.J. J.J. J.J. Look at those other awards up here. We'll send you one. We'll send you one. Make room. Yeah, yeah. You're going to have to clear off the shelves, brother.

1:07:40Clear off the shelves. It's going to be big. First team all time. Good God. J.J. Watley. J.J. J.J. JJ, you had a great weekend at Good Samaritaning. Yeah. Okay, I want to let you know that. And chivalry is nowhere near dead. Can you just talk a little bit about you being the first team all-time good guy that our potential society needs? We didn't know this award was needed, but we need you to know that we know first team, this guy.

1:08:06Jeff Passan:We got a slow, slow, slow news day over there on the ESPN airwaves, huh? No. Not true. I mean, besides the fact that you're getting$100 million. Okay, Jage, please. You're taking everybody off the network. Take it away. You're going to lose the award with what you're doing. Now, on that note, there was no second place. Actually, the gimmick was going to be if he didn't act like that, but now maybe we need to. And I would like to let you know, Jage, don't be reading the internet like that. Okay? You're smarter. Oh, I read it all. What? Did they buy NFL Network this year? Who? They did. Did they?

1:08:45That's crazy.

1:08:46Jeff Passan:Did they keep anybody? Or is everybody fired to pay you? I'm trying to figure it out. That's not funny. That's not funny.

1:08:52Pat McAfee:We do not like that. We do not appreciate that. That is the narrative, and I'm certainly taking it on the shins. The boys and I are very proud of the work that we have done. Thanks a lot, Moana. Good God. I mean, come on. All right, okay. Just play the hits with Doomsday or whatever. Okay, all right. We're not getting into any of that. My YouTube TV didn't work for a while, too. Okay. Don't forget that. That's quite the dispute.

1:09:16Jeff Passan:Please. It was a long time.

1:09:18Pat McAfee:It was a lot of money. But on that note, we hate any time this happens. Obviously, this is terrible. We don't like that. But we are very honored that we are still partnering with ESPN and Disney for the good of sport for the future. And I hate this. Like, we actually hate it. When we first got there, there was one of the – it feels like this happens in corporations a lot, kind of getting baptized into this. NFL teams don't really do this, you know, so we're not really in there. The first time we licensed the show through ESPN, one of these happened. We got blamed for it all. It's like, blame us.

1:09:49Pat McAfee:Okay. Okay. Thank you. I feel like you don't fully understand budgets and where things are coming from, but I do appreciate that. This time we're getting blamed as well, which I guess I can understand, but I mean, there's billions and billions of dollars in these companies and hard decisions have to get made. and we don't like any of them and we hope we we hope we're an asset to the company going forward. I hope we continue to be an asset to the company and an asset to sport as a whole but hate all of it. We learned about Ryan yesterday. Obviously, I think everybody did. Ryan's good to us. Ryan Clark, obviously, been around ESPN a long time.

1:10:32Pat McAfee:Carl Ravitch today. Just on the show. Friend of the program. Palocero. That's not a fun day. Yeah, Palo Serra. That's not fun for sports as a whole. But now I do feel like, from my understanding, a lot of places are getting into the sports world in a big way. So hopefully there are softer landings for people than there ever has been in the past. But, yeah, it's crazy time in the biz, honestly, Jage. And thanks for just reading the Internet and just assuming that they're right.

1:10:57Jeff Passan:I'm here to ask the questions the people are asking. I'm looking at the Internet and seeing what's going on. And they want to know. Pat's making a lot of cash. I mean, they're mad that Gump was working in the shipyards in the past, and now he's making money. Gump, you're the problem. Your come-up is the problem. Thanks, Jay. It's the first team all-time good guy you are. Now, on that note, he is Canadian. Yeah. Yeah, I can't have a program. I didn't even think about it potentially. He didn't make it past the first round, so I don't even know. Oh, I like that we're doing just based off a World Cup.

1:11:31I'm just talking about it in general. That Canadian's taking the American job back here.

1:11:34Jeff Passan:Oh, that is true. Yeah, certainly doing that. But there's no American that could do this. You have to be specifically trained in the bowels of a ship in Canada for 16 years huffing paint. Huffing paint and digesting content. And with your splunking camera on. Let me get to the bottom of it, Paul. Oh, they're saying terrible things about these people. Thank you. Don't tell me what they're saying about me. Oh, I can't. Don't forget the sandblast dust either. That was kind of the touch of gold. Oh, yeah. I forgot you huffed sand. Yeah, you got to take it. Yeah, it was good. Anyways, Jage, first team all-time good guy, and this is what you decided to do.

1:12:11You know what? You know what we're going to do? Because we are honoring you as a good guy? We're actually going to give ourselves an award. We were going to say we're second team all-time good guy. Because we're acknowledging you. I liked it. And how, you know, you're such a good guy. Good job, everybody. I thought we did it. Appreciate it, boys. Because we're honoring you. But turns out. Congrats. Do we win now?

1:12:32Jeff Passan:Who's going to give the speech? Who's going to give the speech? Somebody's got to do it. You got first place, Jage, you. Yeah, first team. Okay, I will give the speech. What an honor it is to be on this stage right now here today. First, I want to take an opportunity to say thank you and congratulations to all of the other nominees in this category. Gump, everybody there, Ty, Connor, you are not on that list. You are not even close to that list. What's the Prince over there name?

1:13:04Pat McAfee:The red-headed one? He was on the list. Who else? Boom Berman. Chris Berman was on the list. Blocky, I believe. Adam Sandler was definitely a finalist.

1:13:18Jeff Passan:I just want to say, this award is not about me. Actually, it is 100 % about me. So I will take all credit and responsibility for this. I'm going to put the award right up there at the very top of the trophy case. There's two empty spots because I'm already planning for next year's as well. Whoa, that's – oh, don't be assuming that, pal. We've never had a back-to-back. No, we haven't. If you come for the king, you best not miss. So anybody out there gunning for this award, you better be prepared to meet up at a lot of dive bars and drink a lot of beers with people you've never met, and you just hope that when you show up, they're not going to stab you in the chest.

1:14:00Pat McAfee:Yeah, and obviously this is like Facebook marketplace you kind of did here with this guy. And we appreciate you doing it. That's why you are who you are. And if you're looking to take this title of first team all-time good guy for next year, I think you need to start setting up situations, you know, like they have on that ABC show, What Would You Do? You need to start flooding JJ's walks with old people. See if you help him across the street. You know, get that on camera. You know, start setting them up. Have somebody come rob a store that JJ's in. See if JJ Spears person or just kind of sits back idly and watches it happen.

1:14:32You know, these are things if you want to get the title, you're going to have to really go for.

1:14:36Jeff Passan:Just start setting up some tripods at intersections and just hoping that grandmas are coming through. You know, bring a bus in. Bring a bus in. Just see what he only got two arms. See what he could do with it all. We appreciate you, Jade. We hope you're great. That is very cool. We'd like to let you know that. Thank you for being a good guy. It was cool. It was cool. The guy was cool. He's from Australia. Very Australian. It is a very interesting situation, man, because you never know. Like, I'm starting to learn, you know, more like this guy could have been bullshitting me. I could have walked into a very weird situation.

1:15:07Jeff Passan:But so far, I'm very fortunate that almost every single one of these situations I've ever been in, everybody's been unbelievably cool. And I'm very much better for the experience. So that guy was awesome. He said he was flying back to Australia on Monday. So I hope he had a safe trip back home. It was cool.

1:15:24Pat McAfee:I appreciate you saying that every time you do this, it's been cool. So this isn't the only time. And that's why this guy, first team all-time good guy. Thank you, Jake. Way to go, Jake. Thanks, guys. I'll send you my address. Yeah, we actually got a trophy for you. I don't know if you know that. We mocked one up for you. You got to let us know if you think it's good or not. What do you think?

1:15:44Jeff Passan:That's great. Love it. I mean, that guy. But we don't know. Is he on there? What is his good guy's ass? I think AJ wants himself. Yeah, you're right. We didn't actually. It's a one-man award, guys. I mean, let's not just go crowning people. We should do a deep dive on this guy and try to cancel him. You're right, JJ. Good idea. Just like everyone did with Freddie. Yeah, I mean, that happens to everybody that has their moment in his son. Let's see how he was as a 14-year-old real quick. I think we should just have Jage with his arm out like this because we give people their own figure. You step in.

1:16:18And they put it in there whenever they win. If anybody ever wins it. We give a little bobblehead. We put in there and Jay just basically like, come on. You know, they get the first team all the time good guy.

1:16:29Jeff Passan:And because even old good guy wouldn't have had the beer on the trophy because I would have been like, no, you can't have a beer. That's bad. Kids, everything like learning, growing, trying. Well, that's 30 % luck. 20 % skill. 15 % concentrated power of will. 5 % pleasure. 50 % pain. 100 % reason to be a good guy. Hell yeah.

1:16:51Pat McAfee:And remain the same. Be a friend.

1:16:53Jeff Passan:Tell a friend. something fantastic. Love your life. Live your life. Don't ruin it. You haven't got the trophy yet. Ladies and gentlemen, J.J. Watt. J.J. Unbelievable. That's what you get, though, when you roll the dice of a cold call to the all-time good guy. Is it now the J.J. Watt Award since he wins the first one? Should we have a human award or should it be a shape? Like the SB. It's kind of just like a shape. Like a circle. Like a shape of J.J.? Maybe a heart. Yeah, I guess part of that was like you'd almost have to have him like chokeslamming Ryan Smith because, you know, it was his... Well, he owns that soccer team, right?

1:17:26Jeff Passan:Oh, yeah. And they kind of had the big F up that made him say like, oh, okay.

1:17:32Pat McAfee:Okay, you're going to make me

1:17:32Adam Schefter:have to deal with this? Actually, do you hate women? Is it only guys who win this award? No, there's a bunch of women who are up for it. There's a bunch of women who are up for it. Where's the Good Woman Award? There's a bunch of good guys who are women. What if we put Gary Bertier on the award? Yeah, I say he's a good guy. He's a good guy, right? Remember, some of the things... Yeah, there is plenty of women. Sophie Wambach was nominated last year. Sophie Cunningham. For the Good Guy Award. Sophie Cunningham's up for it. Good human. I don't like that. Asia Wilson's up for it. She needs her own award.

1:17:59Asia Award? The Good Woman Award. Okay, listen. I was just going to say, hey, a bunch of good guys out here. Sounds like this guy wants to win the Good Guy Award. Yeah, are you mad?

1:18:08Jeff Passan:Is it the Good Person Award now? There we go. That works. These freaking people, man. I will say, the trophy does. I'm not saying it. I'm not saying it. I'm not saying it. Let's move along. No reason on this particular day to dabble in what I thought would not have been. Should everyone get the award, Tim? All right. Let's move along. One woman, one man. Ladies and gentlemen, join us now. Talk to us about a sport that is happening. But we can't hear a word he's going to say. Again? Fuck me! All right.

1:18:41Pat McAfee:Let's talk about things that are happening around the sports world. Listen, obviously sports are vast. Sports are awesome. And there's a bunch of things we haven't been able to talk about that we need to at least say this is happening so others can see it and understand in case it comes up in a conversation. Things happen around the sports world. Brexton Bush, Kyle Bush's son, he won his first race this weekend. I believe that is obviously a dirt track. I don't know if that's a sprint car or not. Very dangerous racing. Now, obviously, there are different styles of racing. You got the go-karts, and then there's a dirt track, and then there's straight line racing, and then there's over racing, and a street course racing.

1:19:20Pat McAfee:There's a bunch of different styles of racing. Brexton Bush climbing up through the ranks wins his first big race, drifting that thing on the dirt. That thing is a constant drift if you're doing it right. Obviously have the ability to flip on a regular basis. We've seen these out in Indiana a bunch of times. In the atmosphere around it, good times. A lot of people fixing those engines in trailers outside, which Brexton actually talked about. My dad used to help me through it all. Brexton wins his first race. Hey, as us being former friends and friends of your father, Brexton, let's go, boy. Hell yeah, Brexton.

1:19:51Let's go, boy. Let's go win this thing. Let's get to a vertical jump now. Didn't know humans were able to do this. Darius Clark at Shaq's Dunkman League.

1:20:00Pat McAfee:53-inch vert with a step in, obviously. Don't know what exactly are the rules and regs for a vert because he stepped in and moved there. Touching 53 inches up there, being able to leap that high. absurd ridiculous and uh shout out to darius clark and uh d butt i mean we who was the wide receiver from tennessee we had a wide receiver from tennessee uh derrick rogers yes this guy derrick rogers we had touched the ceiling of our gym okay we had a we had a gym at the colts jumped in touched the ceiling of it insane athlete it was the highest jump i had ever seen in my entire life i wonder how he or others would have been able to participate in this type of event love the checks doing it yeah love that darius clark got a chance to soar debuts just uh this

1:20:46Adam Schefter:was in the group chat over the weekend just football players in general i would like to see a lot of byron jones a guy went to you kind of after me i jumped 43 at the combine which is just a standing vert for football players and he went and jumped something i think 45 is like 12 feet in the broad jump broke all type of world records but if we had opportunity to do a running vert, I would like to see what those numbers would be. Regardless, this is very, very, very impressive. That angle, too, with the rim back there, it looks like his whole chest is over the damn rim. That is unbelievable here from Darius Clark.

1:21:20Pat McAfee:Congratulations, Darius Clark. Obviously spectacular. Let's go to Saturday night's main event in Madison Square Garden. World champ Carl Anthony Townsend says, J.D. McDonough, big head to the sky, to the man! Monster for a chokeslam. And then, oh, Dirty Dom. How about you catch a little bit of this as well? Through the table!

1:21:45Pat McAfee:Unbelievably effortless. And obviously, Dan Housen is on an incredible run. He cursed Argentina, which is why Spain won. And obviously, he cursed everybody but the Knicks through the playoffs. They go on to win. And then Dan Housen. Guys, yeah. D-D. D. For J.D. McDonough 1-2-3 at SNME in MSG as K-A-T. Choke slams a couple punks through the ring. I love what happened here. And he looked comfortable. He looked confident. And I would say there's been a lot of celebrities that have gotten involved. You can tell he likes the product and is a mark because of the way he delivered this.

1:22:22Jeff Passan:Yeah, and even just the end, the celebration. Being able to just chill in the ring, I feel like, is a skill. And he's just lounging right here. He's kind of taking it in, doing a little crowd work, pumping everybody up for Dan Housen. I do hope, especially knowing Tom Brady as well as we do, I'm sure he's checking this tape. Because if he is going to get involved, Cat is a perfect example. And after meeting Dan Housen, I just know J.D. McDonough is hurting after that one because he's a big son of a bitch. For certain, Housen. Yeah. I mean, he's a real deal.

1:22:51Pat McAfee:I thought it was good appearance by Cat. Yeah. Great presence in the ring. Everything about it was great. and he walked onto the – like, he just kind of took a step, was up there, and he took a step, and he was over the rope, and then immediately, big head McDonough's coming in there, banging a boom in the power. How about how high he lifted McDonough?

1:23:08Adam Schefter:Yeah, you up there. Up there.

1:23:10Pat McAfee:Yeah, I mean, because he's what, 7 '1"? 7 '1", and he's up above his head. So, I mean, the amount of power – J.D. McDonough just flopping around, too. I mean, have a little bit of strength, cuz. He's at about 8 feet up there. And that's because Kat just said, get over here.

1:23:25Jeff Passan:Come here, you little fucker.

1:23:26Pat McAfee:Come here, yeah. and then you just...

1:23:28Jeff Passan:This brought me back.

1:23:29Pat McAfee:Remember, that's all cat there.

1:23:30Adam Schefter:Yeah.

1:23:31Pat McAfee:Remember, that is all cat there. Yeah, exactly. I got questions.

1:23:33Adam Schefter:I know AJ always has the fight question, like, hey, why are you showing your punches? But, like, was Dom not ready for this? You just saw JD get in.

1:23:41Jeff Passan:I mean, he was kind of mind-blowing. How would you feel, man? There's a seven-footer in there. I never see a guy that big. Dom's ever been in the ring with freaking Andre the Giant. Kind of walked right into it. Dom kind of grew up around a bunch of really tall guys. But I think he was kind of shocked that...

1:23:56Pat McAfee:Carl Anthony Towns was that strong. Because, AJ, just like you and I were talking about there, J.D. McDonough, he's doing nothing there. Nothing. That's Carl.

1:24:06Jeff Passan:Cat lifted him over his head. Watch this. His whole body is almost over his head. It's crazy because J.D. is doing nothing there.

1:24:12Pat McAfee:And Cat just with one hand right here and somehow grabbing him by his – Just casual. – lifts him from the ground because J.D. doesn't want to go into the sky. No, obviously. So Cat lifts his ass up that high like that. J.D. is a professional. He does this every day. J.Katz steps in there, literally, boom, the bang of the pal, and all by himself with no help from J.D. lifts him up to the sky and then says, good night, big head, boom. That's wonderful.

1:24:36Jeff Passan:No, absolutely, and it's one of those things where, yeah, Dom has been around a lot of big guys, but he might be thinking, wait a minute, is Drew McIntyre's height gimmicks? Because I'm hearing that he's 6 '9", 320 pounds when he's coming to the ring. If that's the case, Carl Anthony Towns is fucking 7 '8", and weighs 700 pounds.

1:24:52Pat McAfee:You think Dom's calculating all that in real time?

1:24:54Jeff Passan:I think he is in real time, yeah, He's thinking, how am I going to get away from a guy who's 7 '8 and weighs 700 pounds? How about J.D. getting that DDD there through the mat? He's just kind of getting ragdolled around. That's J.D. football. That is J.D. football. You said this was made to you? It felt like it. Saturday night's main event. Gotcha. I will say, if J.D. McDonough's in there, I have a sneaky suspicion that whoever else is in there is going to look really good. Like, really good. What about J.D. versus The Miz? Have they fought? Yeah, The Miz fought. You mean Mike? Okay. You mean a lose-lose match?

1:25:25Jeff Passan:You mean the Mike Mizzenen? Yeah. Did he change it? Did I miss something? He's thinking about it. Might have to. I got pitched last night. Yeah, there's a better Miz right now. Guy's throwing 105 and a half miles an hour. Yeah. He always is. Might be all the time. Might be the greatest pitcher of all time when it's all said and done, like bar none. And he just so happens to have a pretty similar pronunciation of his last name. He does. And Mike Mizzenen's been losing, and now he's going to lose his name. That's how you know he's on a bad streak. The Miz comes up to us. I'm not even going to say what he said.

1:26:01Jeff Passan:It's awesome. Miz likes any pub. In his defense, I don't think it was his idea. I think it might have been some people who were around him saying, you got to sue this guy. He's using your name. And we were kind of all just like, yeah, that's a losing battle, Mike. You're going to want to maybe drop that because this guy, the Miz, this guy is fucking unreal. He's next level. He's one of one. And I think by the end of the conversation, Mike kind of came around to it. The Mike is a good one. We have to tell him the Mike. The Mike on the Mike. He's good on the Mike. The Mike is sweet. The Mike. Think of the Mike in that moment of us telling him that.

1:26:41Think of that entire interaction.

1:26:43Jeff Passan:I mean, the fact that it would cross his mind to take action. He said, you guys would know. That's how he started. And it was like, all right, here we go. He was holding a drink, too. You guys would know. This guy's taking my name, The Miz. And I'm like, you're talking about the pitcher? He goes, yeah, I got people telling me I should sue him. We all, Mike. Don't do that. Mike, please. This is the guy. This is the one or whatever. He's probably a fan of yours. He goes, is he? The mic gets a little bit, you know. So good luck to the mic, man. Love the mic. It was great. Your mic. Season two coming soon.

1:27:21of the mic oh no he sent me a mic on gladiators yeah yeah oh yeah i'm sorry yeah he sent me a link of 50 episodes of miz and missus 130 a.m after we talked to him he goes excuse me miz and missus has 50 episodes i said i've seen them all he goes i'm gonna make sure you do and i said how are you gonna do that he said i'm gonna send them to you i got and then an hour and a half later i get a link i'm laying down i get a link Miz and Mrs. 50 episodes link right here. And it's like you are, the Mike is the greatest. The Mike and Mrs. also.

1:27:57Jeff Passan:Great show. Not bad at all. Need another season. Let's go to a Scottish lad who broke a 27-year record. A man who called his shot. He had Project 222 that started in an attempt to run a 342 mile. 343 was the record since the 90s.

1:28:14Pat McAfee:Josh Kerr runs a 342.68. Now, I think the incredible thing is obviously the humans are able to do that. A mile is so far. So to be able to do that in three minutes and 42 seconds is crazy. 1954 was the first sub four-minute mile. So if you think about humans since 1954 until now, 70-some years, haven't really trimmed off that much time. Obviously, half a minute is a huge deal. But I'm just saying you would have expected that to be a much bigger jump. Getting to 342 was obviously a dream of a lot of track people forever. His shoes were the 222 Brooks something. His shirt, his suit that he was wearing was a 222 model.

1:28:57Pat McAfee:Project 222 was what he was doing. So this dude actually called his shot, went out and did it in front of 60 ,000 people in London. And incredible stories. Yeah, I think it was packed out stadium. Yeah, so incredibly pumped for him. And this is beautiful to watch any type of record get broke. But to be honest, as I was researching it, I thought humans would have evolved athletically more than we have. But I guess that's just a testament to how good they were back then and how good any increment of advancement we should view in the modern day.

1:29:23Jeff Passan:That's just crazy. That might be the most impressive thing of all time. Seriously. 27 years I think. What's the limit? Got to be a limit, right? Like what's the fastest you could run a mile? Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Before like your heart explodes or like, I mean, 16 miles an hour the entire time is what it averaged.

1:29:36Pat McAfee:And he ran a 13 ,900. That's crazy. For the entirety. Insane. Yeah. And then there was another one. 343, by the way, was in 1999. Look at him. He's run around. Like he's not even breathing. Yeah. Five seconds. Yeah, I think it was five-something second 40s if I looked it up. Like just for the entire. Constant.

1:29:54Adam Schefter:That's nuts.

1:29:56Pat McAfee:And then I guess his 1 ,500 out of this was also. Yeah, ridiculous. I guess that's next. I guess he would have broke the 1 ,500 record as well. But I guess that is coming up next for him. They assume that that is what he's going to get into. Shout out to Josh Kerr doing that. Peace. But you would think with the advancements of shoes and technology and track and everything. Because they were running on what? Dirt?

1:30:15Jeff Passan:Yeah, for a long time, yeah.

1:30:17Pat McAfee:So you think with the clay, I'm sorry, whatever the fuck the technical shit is. Same difference. But you would think that that would be a big jump.

1:30:23Jeff Passan:Probably ripping Sigs back then, too. 3.59 in 1954. Imagine what that guy. Oh, man. He's probably drinking a nice cold beer while he's going around. Congrats to Josh.

1:30:32Pat McAfee:Let's go to Cavanaugh boys. Lacrosse is taking place. Con man, love that lacrosse is happening. Certainly knew that as soon as I saw this highlight pop up.

1:30:41Jeff Passan:Yeah, me too. I was watching this thing for sure, and it's just unbelievable. That's just Patty Kavanaugh football. That's the grit that he basically grew up with on Long Island, proving it right there. And also, they're having a hell of a year. The Denver Outlaws are having a hell of a year. Him and O 'Neal, who won the Tour of Ton, one of his years are now on the same team. Pretty fantastic stuff.

1:31:03Pat McAfee:Eli Heidenreich, who I had the incredible opportunity to deliver the Pat Tillman Award alongside to Scott Ruskin. stud from the Coast Guard, that his girlfriend is the female Tawara Tone winner.

1:31:14Jeff Passan:Yeah, the star from Johns Hopkins, I believe, or UNC. Yeah, because she had a highlight goal that we actually showed on things at Arnaz during the Final Four of the tournament.

1:31:26Pat McAfee:Chloe Humphrey. Okay, let's go to another superstar. Let's go to Canada. 15-year-old who's 7 '6", playing hoops with an incredibly ridiculous haircut. Let's assume that this guy is going to be a problem. This is Jeremy Gahl here. And I'll tell you what, you go there whenever he is on his way. Congrats to him having an NBA career. Yeah. I think a lot of people are saying if you're playing in Canada at this age, you're probably not going to be great, but I think he has a lot of pride in being down there. Let's assume he's had an IMG next week to kind of get on the entire I'm taller and more athletic than I'm supposed to be at this age.

1:31:59Pat McAfee:Let's go ahead and take the most advantage of it. He's got handles. He's got a vicious attitude. And that haircut tells me he's down for whatever.

1:32:06Jeff Passan:I believe I saw that he's actually going to whatever youth academy that Vic Wembe-Mjana went to. So he's not going to IMG. So we'll see. I have a tough time believing that this guy's going to be a threat in the NBA. Maybe that's just me not wanting to believe it because of the haircut. How could he not be? He's staring down like 5 '5 kids for sure. That's his fault? He might get taller. He might get a couple inches taller too. He's calling the little boy right there, AJ. I like his mentality. I like how he's moving. And you're right, AJ. 15, he might still grow to like 7 '8". This dude could gain 100 pounds of muscle over the next five years, honestly.

1:32:42Adam Schefter:I think he will. I love that. I love fucking booty. That's exactly what you're supposed to do. He's begging for a tick. What are you supposed to do against him? And that's what Wemby does, right? And that's what Wemby does, too. Wemby's pretty bit of a dog. Is that the soccer thing? The Ronaldo triangle thing? Is that what it is?

1:32:58Pat McAfee:No, it looks like it. Let's not say it. Ladies and gentlemen, Orioles pitcher. This guy had World Cup fever. I don't know if you saw. Orioles pitcher throws gas. Oh, Alvarez hits right back out of the way. Kick save and a beauty. They're out at first. Love that. Had to hurt.

1:33:13Jeff Passan:Yeah, definitely. A little bit. Had to hurt a foot a little bit.

1:33:15Pat McAfee:Young obviously pulls it off, plays it off. That's only his fifth pitch in there, so he was on his toes early. How many hate kick saves do we normally see in this particular thing? And how many pitchers are told, stay away from the ball whenever it comes back up the middle?

1:33:28Jeff Passan:Well, not that many. You've got to be able to field your position. That's a big part of it. I've never seen that happen before, ever. You'll see guys deflect it to the shortstop or the third baseman. I've never seen someone just a beautiful touch right up to themselves and then throw it to first. I've never seen that before. I don't know if we'll ever see it again.

1:33:43Pat McAfee:Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is senior MLB insider for ESPN, friend of the program, ladies and gentlemen, Jet Passing. Jet, thank you for battling through with us with the audio issues. We think it potentially was on your side, but we will take blame, obviously. Blame us. That's kind of what's happening right now. Blame us, blame us, blame us. 100 % on me, Pat, when you reach your mid-40s, technology starts defeating you. And there is no worse feeling in the world than knowing that you are officially an old. And I am an old now. Like, it was, all I had to do was just go up to a menu, change one thing, and my dumb ass is incapable of doing that now?

1:34:22Like, I feel like Connor on a daily basis.

1:34:26Jeff Passan:Jay! You have no idea, Jed. I got diagnosed with freaking shingles today, dude. I mean, it's just a... You want to talk about being old, bro? Yeah, you want to talk about a nightmare. I feel like I'm 65, brother.

1:34:36Pat McAfee:It's all right.

1:34:37Jeff Passan:There's nothing that important coming right around the corner. Thanks a lot, Al Burton. Yeah, I'm getting married on Saturday. This guy's screwing me. Okay. It's in a place where you'll be able to handle it pretty easily, right? Yeah, who knows how these things work? Who knows how these things work? No, I'm just talking about it. It's something that normally you're pretty icky, right? Wait, Connor, do you actually have shingles? Yeah, dude. Why would I just... I don't lie up here. Well, you say some things about it. And someone's actually marrying you. Yeah, I know. And this is going to blow it, man.

1:35:06Jeff Passan:Thanks. Hold on a second. Hold on a second. We have really good producers in the back who can go find these sorts of things. Go look up Tony La Russa shingles and show a photo of this. Connor, I really, truly hope. Like, all kidding aside, this is. I don't think we should show that. I remember that. You guys got a wedding this weekend. You most certainly should. No, no, no, no, no, no. Oh, my God. I remember that. Looks like Two-Face. What year was that? Show it, show it, show it, show it, show it. Don't show it, don't show it. Get it off the screen. Get it off the screen. It's not coming to you.

1:35:44Jeff Passan:I mean, we'll see. I'm hightailing my way to the pharmacy right after the show. He's getting married yet. Okay, let's move along. Connor, good week. This is a good week. I know. I'm pumped. Hey, it's going down no matter what, but I need to get those mitts. let's get a shingle. Yeah, it's unbelievable. The placement of it is crazy, too.

1:36:04Pat McAfee:From what we learned of it through Tyrese, and then my old man had some last year, and then obviously doing research, it's like not being able to reach the spot in which it's at.

1:36:13Jeff Passan:You can't reach your nuts? Dude, it's not there, Tony. It's in the middle of my back. Okay, let's move along. He's going to be doing Pilates to try to figure this out.

1:36:21Pat McAfee:Connor, everything's going to be okay. Let's do a little baseball talk here. We saw Young do that kick save. Obviously, that was beautiful. That is not going to be the topic of discussion with you, Mr. Jett, unless you want to talk about the abnormality of that particular move by him, especially pulling it off. World Cup fever. You know, he saw Messi hit with the incredible touch, and he did it himself. Let's talk a little bit more about the baseball here, the real baseball. We got trades coming, and I think you just put out a list of predictions of potentially what's going to happen before the trade deadline, which is right around the corner.

1:36:49Pat McAfee:Who are the big names? What should we know, Jett? Where are we at in baseball world right now, brother? it's such an interesting and fascinating time right now pat because typically you know games around this time of year they matter but there's not a ton of urgency to them you sort of save that for september this almost feels like a pennant race before a pennant race because when you look at the standings there are so many teams right now that actually do not know what they're doing Only three teams, the Colorado Rockies, the New York Mets, and the San Francisco Giants, have told other teams, we're selling.

1:37:27Like, we're going to get rid of guys. It's going to happen. So start getting bids in and let's get these conversations percolating. But especially in the American League, I mean, you look at that right now and the compactness of the standings makes it such that a team like Detroit, that six games under.500, is only four and a half games back in the final wild card. And I know the Boston Red Sox are playing great baseball right now, but at least the Tigers are in it enough so that they're not selling Tarek Skubal and Casey Mize and they're going to wait. So these next seven to 10 days are going to be integral in determining what this trade deadline looks like, because there's an opportunity for it to be really fascinating with some big names being moved.

1:38:10But it all depends on what happens in the games on the field over the next week and change.

1:38:15Pat McAfee:You talked about the Red Sox a little bit there. They don't even have the big Paisans swinging it. They're doing some historic stuff. Connor has a question for you.

1:38:22Jeff Passan:Yeah, Jet, no Roman, no crochet, and still we're going for 15 straight tonight. Is this situation insane? And, you know, Ranger Suarez coming back tonight to get the start off the IL. What is the situation for the Sox? Are they going to try and bring in a player? I know James Wood has been getting floated around, but should they not bring anybody in to mess up with the mojo, or what is kind of the Red Sox plan? Connor, when you can add talent, you add talent. Mojo can absorb it if that mojo is real. And while I don't think James Wood is a particularly realistic option, the Nationals know they have a superstar there.

1:38:56They are not going to get rid of him. There are some others out there, at least names being tossed around, that would make a lot of sense for the Red Sox. And shortstop is a position, I think, of import to them and of focus to them. And we added a new name, guys, to that top 100 trade candidate list. And number six is Zach Netto from the Los Angeles Angels. Now, I don't know if it's going to be specifically Netto. There's an opportunity to go out and potentially get Jeremy Pena from the Houston Astros. And even C.J. Abrams, who's had a great year, but probably not a shortstop long term, could be had as well.

1:39:34And I think the Red Sox are going to try and be aggressive. And I don't blame them. When you win 14 games in a row like this, when you rescue your season from the depth in the doldrums where they were for the first, you know, 80 something games, you just have to go and do it. You got to try and chase it. Damn right. Did it did it? Did someone come in there? No, the opposite. Something's coming out of there. Something's coming out of there. Oh, poor little Ty. So sad. sad. Oh, you gotta go find your binky in the wall. No, no. He's about to go blow his ass through a wall. Wet wipes in a wall. There was a...

1:40:17I mean, that's hilarious. We have talked back... Does he have shingles, too? No, he has shit goals, I think, and they are running rampant out of his body right now. Normally, he heads that way. This is the first time he's ever close his jaw. This might be a cold red.

1:40:33Jeff Passan:Yeah, this is cold red. You know why, too. Because of what happened last time. He ate healthy today. The spicy broccoli got him once again.

1:40:40Pat McAfee:Every time he eats healthy for the first time in months, this happens. That was the most chaotic I've heard him drop into my talk back right there. Quickest for sure. I'm about shit. Yeah. Completely up and out. I mean, he threw his ears like this as he was getting out of there. Ty, we're pulling for you, buddy. Good luck, Ty. Good luck. This hasn't happened in a little bit. A couple weeks at least. Yeah, I think it was two weeks.

1:41:05Jeff Passan:Two weeks before. Including the ones we have. Hey, Pat, I actually have a question for you. I don't know why it happens. Okay. Do you think there could be a book written on this very subject? We were talking about this at the All-Star Game, and a friend of mine had an incident where he was running across the Courtney Campbell Causeway in Tampa, and in the middle of the causeway he's like, oh, God, I'm not going to make it back, and just did the deep right there. Jesus. Do you think there are enough stories and enough commonality among people that they would want to share their stories about...

1:41:46I mean, I'm not going to say it. People dumping their pants jet? Everybody poops, right? Isn't that a book already? It's a huge bestseller. Absolutely.

1:41:55Jeff Passan:But did the guy dump his pants jet or did he just dump on the ground? Oh, no. He went full on in the pants. Yeah. He's always just way back across the causeway. Like, it was a mess. Jeez. I mean, yeah, just try to shop that around. Someone will probably buy it. He should have pulled his pants down. Look at that question he just asked. He dumped his pants or he pooped right there on the ground. Like, it was so serious. I mean, that was a real follow-up. That was a real follow-up. It was a huge difference. Real journalism. That was a real follow-up. It is real journalism. Everybody's saying we don't do any of that.

1:42:23I feel like we got to the bottom of that. We would have never known where that guy pooped unless Jet wrote a book about it.

1:42:29Pat McAfee:Ty would definitely have a couple stories for you, though. If you need to fill a few chapters, Ty's got you. Is this a frequent occurrence? Oh, buddy. This guy, we all know it, too. It's like one of those things where –

1:42:42Jeff Passan:It's a highlight reel at this time. You could put together like the Red Sox winning 14 games highlight reel of Ty basically pooping.

1:42:50Pat McAfee:14 is probably the right number if we had to put it on there. We know – we see it happening, though, and he knows it, too, what's coming. But he still needs – sometimes he needs seven Red Bulls. The opening of the show

1:43:03Jeff Passan:has Ty holding up a whiteboard that says I sharted. Yes, it happens a lot. But that wasn't a full dump, so we don't know what will make the cut for your book, but Ty will have many questions. Okay, we have a couple more questions before we let you go, Jet. Thank you. Go ahead, Tone. Jet, you talked about Scoobl and the Tigers and whether they're going to trade him or not. A team that is in the race still as well is the San Diego Padres, and they have arguably, maybe not even arguably, the best closer in all of baseball and there's been reports that he is now on the trade block because they want to replenish their farm system uh i know a lot of people in the city of pittsburgh are interested in that i know yankees fans are interested in that is there is mason miller actually going to get dealt and where could he potentially get dealt uh mason miller is definitely available now does that mean that at the end of the day jay preller who's one of the most prolific traders of all executives in baseball is going to flip him just a year after acquiring him for Leo DeVries, who's one of the best prospects in baseball.

1:44:02Not necessarily. But the Padres need, it's not prospects, the Padres need major league ready starting pitching. And if you're a team like the Seattle Mariners that has a deep rotation already, and in Ryan Sloan and Kate Anderson, two of the best pitching prospects in baseball, on the cusp of being ready for the big leagues, it's something you have to consider. If you're the Yankees and you can pair him with David Bednar and Tim Hill and Brett Hedrick at the back end of the bullpen, Fernando Cruz, it makes you just so much better and so much deeper. And Mason Miller is the most dominant player in baseball at his sport or at his field.

1:44:39If the ninth inning comes around and Mason Miller is coming in, you pretty much know that the game is over. 75 strikeouts in 40 innings and 08-9 ERA. Like, he is a dude. and him moving would help make what could be a boring deadline a whole lot more exciting. And if he and Scoogle are both moving, then we've got a fascinating couple weeks ahead.

1:45:01Pat McAfee:It feels like he's way too good to be a Pittsburgh Pirate, but we're in a new Pittsburgh Pirate world, and he's from Pittsburgh. Buckos are real. It feels like there is a little bit of movement in potentially becoming a real franchise over there. I think a lot of people are believing it.

1:45:14Jeff Passan:And if the Padres want Mitch Keller, that's fine. They can have him.

1:45:19Pat McAfee:Okay, so you're making trades for the team. I appreciate and respect that. Not going to be Mitch Keller. It would probably have to be more like Jared Jones. No. Thanks for burning the bridge with Mitch Keller there, Diggs. That's fine. Certainly, that was a good thing to do. That doesn't matter. Oh, is that? Oh, is that? Is that your side, Chad? Is that your side? What microphone do you have? Do you have your living room microphone also on when you turn that Zoom thing on? Are you hearing something in the background? That might be my child rooting around outside the room. What's he doing? He's rooting around, just kind of rooting around out there?

1:45:52Just making noise, probably like wrestling with a dog, doing something.

1:45:56Pat McAfee:Oh, I like that. I like that. What move do you think you – Oh, he has all kinds – he rock bottoms the dog all the time. Oh, yeah. I like that. What type of dog? Goldendoodle. Oh, yeah. I forgot about that. Big dog. I like that athletic dog. We got this blue heeler dog. That's part blue heeler, part Pyrenees. Pyrenees mountain dog? Yeah. This thing's gigantic. Really strong. A big dog. Really, yeah. He's starting to become like, I'm really starting to like him. At the beginning, he was just a really good dog, terrible pet, disgusting pet. This thing's not supposed to be in the house. Just clearly.

1:46:31This is a fucking, this is supposed to be on my, he's a moose.

1:46:34Pat McAfee:He's a farm. He's a horse, this thing. Now, he's learning how to be a pet, which is sweet, but he's a sweetheart, but he's big. I mean, it is a, this is the first time I've ever been with a dog that has like real, Real juice. Athleticism. Yeah. I mean, he'll pop me with one and then slide. He'll like duck. And then he's moving on the other. It's a real. Your dog slaps you? Yeah, he's got these big paws, too. He'll always give me one. I'm sitting down, obviously, whenever he wants something. He'll give me one of those. And then he'll even duck and move, too, and hit me from the other side. This thing's unbelievable.

1:47:08Pat McAfee:It's a real human listener, too. It's like, hey, enough. And it just stops. It's like, all right, we're starting to understand each other. Genius. We're starting to understand a little bit. opens every door though no problem hey how's it going i'm coming in now he's up on the table okay that table's this thing slowly but surely turning the house into a mountain and or a field but there's nothing like it we just uh had to say goodbye to uh our cat teddy one of our cats teddy who sam has had for uh like 17 years or whatever it's like the the obviously in those moments you start thinking about all the good times you miss him in the presence everything like that animals are the best man the animals are the absolute they are hey they are you know i uh i never really got sam brought a lot of animals into my house literally just showed up and just had a bunch animals in there and i was like i i think i like animals i i think i am uh i like animals guy and certainly yeah the uh this dog though you know i don't know if you'll ever be able to be like peter you know because peter like good dog on the road and everything like that herb street but it's getting close yes peter herp streak second generation of ben the dog ben by the way is the i think we were all at benny's peter awesome dog too peter's got his own traits and everything like that and he's certainly handsome and lovable and strong ben was you know obviously first ever there i blew and i blew and i i don't know blue might be moving a little bit with me i know yeah let's get him in here blue might be moving because i think he does need to move The guy ran three miles, four miles an hour, or four and a half miles an hour the other day on a treadmill.

1:48:42Pat McAfee:Okay, they bring these treadmills over. Yeah, I mean, he never gets tired. He's got it. This thing never gets tired. It's incredible, and it can jump. You put your dog on a treadmill? You need to. This thing. Bro, you running around the house? Running around the outside of the house? Not enough. I'm supposed to be going village to village here. And it just never stops. This thing's jacked, bro. That's why the whole awesome dog, great dog. But what we're saying is dogs are the best. Animals are great. Jet Passon, you're the man. We appreciate you joining us, brother. Always a pleasure, boys. Thanks for having me.

1:49:18And Ty, good luck. He still is.

1:49:20Pat McAfee:He won't hear that. He's in the middle of his own fight right now.

1:49:22Jeff Passan:Oh, he did want to ask about if the Yankees are going to trade for Langoliers or Goodman.

1:49:30Unlikely. Okay. Both of them. Langoliers, especially unlikely. Hunter Goodman would be so perfect for that team. Right-handed power fantastic but I just don't think they're going to give up enough to go get him and Colorado doesn't want to move him so could happen Ryan Jeffers much likelier

1:49:50Pat McAfee:You're the man ladies and gentlemen that's Jeff Passman

1:49:52Jeff Passan:Yay

1:49:59Pat McAfee:As we go from one senior insider as we await It ties re-arrival fresh out of the john after destroying the back toilet in which Bailey and Talk, I believe, our most prolific dumper goes to. That toilet back there has certainly been through some things. Today, I believe, it is also in a fight. We don't know how long. This might be a 12-round. Yeah, we might not see him again. Friday, we'll be live from the NFL Flag Championships. It's happening here in Westfield, Indiana. Indianapolis, Indiana. North of us. The NFL Flag Championships has boys and girls, youth, and also adult championships happening.

1:50:36Pat McAfee:Cannot wait to watch the action and also broadcast live from there. Happy it's happening in our state. We are very pumped about hosting that. And obviously, I was very fortunate to be a part of a Super Bowl commercial that was promoting flag football becoming a sport for high schools and regulated in states. I think it's happened in like 30-some states. It's obviously on the way up. Flag football is the future of football. Good growth engine for football. Good introduction to football. Lucky to be a part of it on Friday here in Indiana. Can't wait to get to that. Joining us now, senior NFL insider for ESPN, ladies and gentlemen, Adam Schefter.

1:51:09Pat McAfee:Hey, Schefter. How you doing, Schefter? Great to be on with you guys and Charlie Chaplin. I appreciate it. Yeah, Boomer, obviously, with a great one with old Charlie Chaplin. I will say, Charlie Chaplin used his outside voice to ask a good dump question follow-up on Jeff Passon earlier. Good piece of journalism. We have about a minute and a half before a hardout. We'll continue on digital with YouTube, ESPN Plus, and Disney Plus. Shefty, rookies reporting to camp today. What's the big storyline over the next 24 hours in your eyes with people showing up at camp? Well, I think if tomorrow the Cardinals will be the first team to report in full with the Panthers, I think you obviously have quarterback contractual questions with both teams.

1:51:47Bryce Young entering that 50-year option. They didn't do a deal. And, of course, Jacoby Brissett wanted his deal adjusted during the offseason, and was not there for the voluntary part of the offseason drills. I would think he'll be there tomorrow with the team. I don't know that he'll go through drills. They're still going to be working on that contract for him, but they'll want to make some type of adjustment to keep the leader of that team happy as he gets ready to compete with Gardner Minshew for a starting quarterback job there in Arizona.

1:52:14Pat McAfee:Okay, so that's the next 24 hours. Obviously, who reports, who doesn't report will be a big thing. Ty Schmidt has reported back to the conference. Way to go, Ty. Proud of you. Back in the fight. Yeah, I appreciate what you just did in there. And I appreciate that toilet as well. And I like that you're wearing the Halleys. It does appear because those things are game ready. That's certainly what you just went through there. We wrap up here on ESPN. We continue digitally. Shefty, quickly, do you know what's going on here with Coach Kelly? What's going on here?

1:52:41Jeff Passan:What? What's going on with him? You tell me, Shefty. Beautiful new stadium. Just ready. Purple vest, hard hat football guy.

1:52:51You got me there. I don't know. All right. Okay. Well, maybe you don't know everything.

1:52:55Pat McAfee:We appreciate Chip Kelly buying in on Northwestern program, his commitment to ball. We will continue our program and be back tomorrow. Goodbye. Wow. That was a lot there. I thought you'd have an answer.

1:53:06Jeff Passan:Yeah.

1:53:10Pat McAfee:What, Chef? Do you think we kind of blindsided you with Chip Kelly there at the last second? What's the joke on Chip Kelly? I don't even know what the deal is there. Look at him. Did you see him? I mean, this is the Chip Kelly. Hey, Chip. Hell yeah, Chip. He's bought in.

1:53:24Jeff Passan:There he is.

1:53:25Pat McAfee:Northwestern's got a lot of rich people that have graduated from there, right?

1:53:27Jeff Passan:Oh, yeah.

1:53:28Pat McAfee:They could potentially get into the NIL game if they really wanted to go all in. I'm not saying that Chip Kelly is agreeing to stay at Northwestern forever, but that is a school that could find access if they were to invest into ball and figure out how to get people into that school because I think that's an Ivy League type school, right?

1:53:42Jeff Passan:Yeah, they could lower their academics. But they do have the money. They're building a beautiful new stadium. I assume that's why he's wearing the hard hat, but I could be wrong.

1:53:48Pat McAfee:Yeah, he's going to work. All right, obviously, let's get to work. Speaking of getting to work, Shefty, there's some work that needs to be done on a couple different situations i'll start with the erin donald situation in los angeles i like bringing it up just strictly because that avengers movie was the first superhero movie i watched when they're all in it yeah i like i like watching great people do great things i enjoy it i could sit back i watch documentaries about great folks how they got there their mindset what they did through their triumph and also their testimony of everything they kind of went through.

1:54:18And the thought of watching the Los Angeles Harlem globetrotting Rams

1:54:24Pat McAfee:play football this year is exciting to me. I know everybody doesn't love that. But Aaron Donald, Miles Garrett, alongside the rest of that defense, that is loaded. The defense is absolutely loaded. And then the offense is what they are. Very exciting for me. Your thoughts on Aaron Donald at this standpoint, being an actual Ram this year, and have you backed off the limited snap thing that you said last week? Well, what's going on right now is that he's trying to get back in football shape. My understanding is it's going to be a while before we hear a final decision about him coming back. Like when he comes back, he's going to want to be Aaron Donald.

1:55:01And he's not going to come back unless he feels like he's Aaron Donald. And that's why it sounds like it's not going to be a quick verdict from him that he's going to be ramping up all during training camp. and this may go towards the start of the regular season before we hear that he has or hasn't signed with the team. Like, he's going through it all right now. This is his own... He's a pre-training camp routine. And so, I mean, you're telling me you think he's going to play 100 % of the snaps when he's out there. I don't know that he's going to do that, but he wants to be Aaron Donald or he's not going to come back.

1:55:37So if he's going to be Aaron Donald when he comes back, he'll probably be used a decent amount. I don't know if it'll be full-time. I would think that they still would be smart with him. I think he's full-time. Now, does he end up making it a full season? I don't know. I think they'll probably calculate that in whenever they're talking to him. Like, is he going to be able to play a full season? Are we going to have some sort of something pop up?

1:55:57Pat McAfee:Probably, if we had to guess. Two years out, with how long the season is, there's a chance that something's going to come back. But I think it's going to be hard to tell Aaron Donald to get off the field.

1:56:04Adam Schefter:They got that chamber out there, too.

1:56:06Pat McAfee:Oh, I forgot about the trailer.

1:56:07Adam Schefter:Yeah, immortal.

1:56:11Pat McAfee:Tony Diggs just screamed into a microphone, said they played 75 % of his snaps his last season. And I think, great stat there, I think getting him off the field would be tough. Like, I think that would be a tough thing for anybody to do. Hey, Aaron, you're off. It's like, I don't know. So, what you're saying, I think, kind of leads to what we're also saying. He's trying to figure out if he can get into the shape where he wants to do all that. Can he go right back to what he was? I think that's going to be tough to do. But if anybody can pull it off, we think Aaron Donald would. Okay, let's go down to Tampa Bay.

1:56:41Pat McAfee:There's obviously a quarterback's itch brewing. Go ahead, Conman.

1:56:44Jeff Passan:Yeah, Shefty, Baker Mayfield is who Pat's talking about. What's the status with that contract? And then their other big-time player on the other side of the ball, Vita Vea. I know those were the two guys Tampa was kind of zeroing in on. Are we going to get extensions for them before camp starts? Before camp starts, I think maybe a bit ambitious right now, but the Buccaneers have been a team that typically has gotten deals done once camp is underway a little bit into it. Now, Baker Mayfield said that he wants the deal done by the time training camp starts or he's essentially tabling negotiations as he enters the last year of his contract.

1:57:22But I guess what I would say to that is that, like I said, Tampa's history has been to do deals during camp, not at the start of camp. And I think it's going to be easy for the Buccaneers and Baker to say at that point in time, we started talking, we're going to continue talking, and we're going to continue to try to get this done. And I think that they figure out a way to get it done because both sides want to make it happen. It shouldn't be a difficult deal to do. think about 50 million dollars a year that that's my projection for where a potential baker mayfield deal could come in maybe not as much as he wants maybe more than the bucks would be wanting to pay but there's a compromise in there for both sides that i think would like to work out a deal pumped

1:58:03Pat McAfee:about baker mayfield earning that at this stage of the career especially with everything he's been through that was booted out of cleveland yeah it was won a playoff game for him against the The Pittsburgh Steelers got booted out of Cleveland. They're still trying to figure out who their quarterback is going to be going forward. Hopefully a dog pound gets a chance to experience another playoff win like Baker was able to bring to Cleveland. The journey obviously goes through special teams look squad in Carolina. Then he goes over to Los Angeles for a cup of coffee. Then he goes down to Tampa, finds a home.

1:58:35Pat McAfee:He's about to get$50 million a year. Hey, good for you, Baker. Had to earn that shit. They would have dropped his ass right out of the NFL, especially with all his gimmicks and games. You know, you can have a good personality and you can draw attention in an entertaining fashion, having every commercial on earth and everything like that, if you're good. But if you're a special teams look squad and nobody wants you on the team, I mean, that shit is quickly, hey, go to the UFL, pal. That is kind of the thing. Instead, he fought back. I think he evolved. He grew. He matured. He found a building that was suitable for him.

1:59:05Pat McAfee:And he's done great things. I'm very happy for Baker Mayfield.

1:59:08Jeff Passan:proud of him almost him and darnold on that same scout team if you look back in that carolina team

1:59:13Pat McAfee:crazy stories yeah congrats bank man that's good for bank and he still got it he does i got the the dougie like chef chef you know what the donkey teach us out doug teach us dougie can you do that i think that's not my forte there pat douging i think i could do just try it some other things you can gritty you add me yeah what does anatomy look like you know Like the hoka-poka. That's when you run. I'm not going to say you run and jump. I saw the Lambeau Field video. It's the anniversary of that. Is that Chef? That is Chef right there. You got a little wiggle there, Chef. He's got the moves. Oh, that's Baker.

1:59:56No. Yeah, that's Baker.

1:59:59Jeff Passan:Oh, that's not Chef. I've never had that much rhythm in my entire life. Really? I don't believe that. I don't believe it. Shefty with a steppy, too.

2:00:11Adam Schefter:That's what gave it away for me, at least. That it was Baker or Shefty? The step back, I was like, okay, Shefty. I don't think Shefty had it in his bag. You're right. Because everything else we kind of... Shefty's going to the cup.

2:00:22Jeff Passan:Yeah, Shefty's going to the rim. To the rack. Yeah, he's... Euro step. Yep. Teach me how to Shefty. Teach me how to Shefty.

2:00:30Pat McAfee:Teach me how to Shefty. Teach me how to Shefty. Teach me how to Shefty. around here. Tone has a question for you, Mr. Schefter.

2:00:39Jeff Passan:Yeah, I do. Schefter, have you checked in with the Giants? Were they pumped about Scadaboo doing the backflip and almost shatter his ankle? Or how'd that work?

2:00:45Pat McAfee:And how'd they feel about the offensive linemen that were over there that kind of were making the rounds? You know, that's who Cam Scadaboo is, right? Like, here's the guy. When he was in college, he's headbutting brick walls before the game. You can't be surprised that this is what he's doing. That's the way he handles himself on and off the field. You know what? he didn't stick the landing. Jackson Dart said he over-rotated. Now, I've tried that, and I've over-rotated, so I can understand how and why he would do that at that moment there. Very simple to over-rotate. He's got to get that better in the future, but here's the deal.

2:01:19The health of this team, Cam, Jackson Dart, Malik Neighbors, those guys are all healthy. They're going to be a playoff team. They're going to be a playoff team if those guys stay healthy and play the majority of the season. I think they can go to the playoffs. I really do. But Jackson Dart takes too many hits and Malik Nabors is coming off the knee injury. Cam Scatterboot is doing backflips. If those three guys are healthy on the field for a better part of 17 games, they're going to make a real playoff. And we need these guys

2:01:49Pat McAfee:to stay healthy too. Nobody really talks about the trenches, the big boys up front, but if these guys get injured, none of it matters. Not going to be able to do anything. And John Harbaugh knows that. That's why he invests in the trenches so much. John Harbaugh obviously being able to win with the Giants so quickly would be a hell of an addition to his football story and his football life. We hope that is the case. Shefty, what do you got today, bud? It looks like you're about to go hit the course or run some errands? No, I've got NFL Live this afternoon. Just got done with my friend Big Daddy here and Patrick McEnroe.

2:02:19They're launching a podcast, so I went out to meet with them. Big Daddy. I'm talking. Going to go home and do NFL Live right now.

2:02:24Pat McAfee:You just got done with Big Daddy? Do you call him that to his face? How's that convo go? Big Daddy. Everybody calls him Big Daddy. Everybody calls him Big Daddy. How big is he? What's his name? So many questions. What the fuck are we talking about? So you walk up, you go, what's up, Big Daddy? That's what you said? Yep. Patrick McEnroe's new partner here on some show that they're doing. I don't know. Can you showcase what it was like when you walked up and said hello to them? Just so we can kind of put ourselves there. Yeah, I went up. I did the Dougie to them, both of them. And gave Big Daddy a hug, Patrick McEnroe a hug.

2:03:02And we sat down and got to business. What did Big Daddy tell you about your Dougie? Did he like your Dougie? Like your Dougie? They told me that Baker's got nothing to do. Big Daddy likes Shefty, huh? Mm-hmm. Fucking Big Daddy.

2:03:17Adam Schefter:I don't know what's going on here. Big Daddy's good little boy. Adam Shefty. Mm-hmm. Come on in to Big Daddy. Okay. Give us a kiss here. Come on in. Let Big Daddy give you a hug. Mm. Come on.

2:03:30Jeff Passan:My favorite insider. Holy fuck. That's Big Daddy right there. Oh, Rich Adolgo. Rich Adolgo. How dare you. Yeah, you got it, Tony. Rich Adolgo. Shout out Big Daddy and Joe Shane. And you, Adam Sheffield, you're the man, ladies and gentlemen. Good luck on NFL Live. Emmy award winning. Heard that was a pretty crazy day yesterday on the program. That was a while. You're the man. Adam Sheffield. Yeah, Sheffield. Would you like to know what the Big Daddy, Rich Salgado's? What? He's the sports world's fixer. Sounds like he's the big dom of the entire sports world. So Big Daddy is the Giants' big dom?

2:04:10Jeff Passan:It sounds like known as the Batman of the NFL. What? That's pretty sweet. Whoa. So who does he work for? Exactly. Himself. Yeah, he's a dark knight. Oh, he's an independent guy. He works for the people. He's been a contractor.

2:04:22Pat McAfee:I'll tell you what. I know he's a powerful guy. We're thankful for everything he does for all the people that we know and all that stuff. But like.

2:04:28Adam Schefter:He's in the insurance business. Big Daddy. Yeah, I like that. I like that. Career-ending disability insurance. I feel like that was added into there by you.

2:04:39Jeff Passan:Got right here. Okay. It's going to be tough for me to call God Big Daddy. Well, when you meet Rich, you know. What's up? How you doing, Big Daddy? They call me Big Daddy. The Bengals had Dan Big Daddy Wilkinson. He was a D-lineman, first-round pick way back in the day. Did you call him Big Daddy? Everybody called him Big Daddy, yeah. Gigantic D-lineman. Check him out. Oh, Big Daddy from Cincinnati? Yeah, he went to Cincinnati. Yep, you got it. The rhyming helps.

2:05:09Pat McAfee:I heard about something about him. Everybody from Cincinnati said the same thing.

2:05:13Jeff Passan:Oh, he's Long Island's Big Daddy. He's Long Island's Big Daddy. He went from telemarketer to top NFL problem solver. That's Big Daddy. Hey, Wischuk, come over here, Big Daddy. I fucking love this game. Don't make me take this to Big Daddy. I'm going to let Big Daddy know I'm definitely on Team Big Dom,

2:05:29Pat McAfee:but nonetheless, I'd like that both of you bigs kind of coexist and kind of get things done. On that note, Big Daddy never offered me chicken cutlets during a home run. No, he would.

2:05:37Jeff Passan:If you wanted them. I don't know. Big Dom, you guys want some cutlets? Here's some alcohol. Where is he going to get those fucking chicken cutlets?

2:05:45Pat McAfee:We should have said yes.

2:05:47Jeff Passan:He would have got them there in two minutes. Back pocket.

2:05:49Pat McAfee:AJ, it was unbelievable. We're mic'd up. We're streaming. Him coming over. Hey, we are live right now. Oh, you're the best. Okay, good to see you. Let me know you need anything. And then another guy comes. He points a guy. Hey, guy. It was the most. It was the greatest. You guys need anything at all. Anything at all. I'm like, hey, I'm mic'd up still. Yeah, yeah, okay, but I'll talk to you later. You need anything. It was great. It was absolutely great. Him fucking, imagine he comes out with a fucking full tray of juice.

2:06:16Adam Schefter:He would have. That would have been awesome. Sure would have. Cheese steaks, colors, what do you need? Hyping hot.

2:06:20Pat McAfee:Have we told people that we planned on streaming that entire first round live and then we took that thing off?

2:06:25Adam Schefter:We probably said it. Okay. I think so. In the intro.

2:06:28Jeff Passan:Do you know that, AJ? I was watching it, like, hoping you were going to continue for the whole first round. But then I thought, like, this is a whole other world if you're going to be streaming for, like, hours straight. Yeah, and I don't know how any of these streamers, to be honest, can't talk to anybody. No, you can't. Skeens walks up to me, what's up? It's like, nothing. Shut up. Whatever you were going to say, don't. Shut up. another big dom yeah i mean bruce or michael buffer okay the one it's like hey all right he

2:06:56Pat McAfee:immediately i know wants to talk shit about something it's like hey mr buffer nice to meet you don't say a thing i'm mic'd up right now and then immediately it's like i'm the guy that met i hate that this is what we gotta meet each other like yeah so i just complimented him

2:07:09Adam Schefter:be surprised the people that don't see the mic too like the new generation you know big annoying I hate seeing it, but then, hey, I'm mic'd up.

2:07:17Jeff Passan:Those streamers don't even tell people they're mic'd up either. I think you have to. But how often can you say to every human that comes by, I'm mic'd up. I'm mic'd up. I've been watching streamer U. I saw T-Pain's teaching him a lot of lessons. It's awesome. Yeah, T-Pain's teaching him some real lessons. I like T-Pain a lot. I'm a big Teddy Payne fan. Hard not to be. How'd you do, buddy? You good? Anytime I'm going out that door You know it's a pretty serious scenario Listen I've been eating a very popular What's called like a salad type chain Almost daily For like the last several weeks And for whatever reason The spicy broccoli and that I'm guessing that's what it is Yeah we had this whole conversation about you Yeah exactly No wet wipes back there Which you have that type of shite It's basically a death sentence So I'm just going to fucking struggle through the last however long we go here, and then I'm going to hot tail it to that bathroom, and I'm going to have to take a shower, to be quite frank.

2:08:19Jeff Passan:Someone hose you down. Have talk hose you down.

2:08:21Pat McAfee:Well, it's hot. It's probably the one that rolled through all the wipes.

2:08:23Jeff Passan:Yeah, there are no wipes. I mean, there's about 150 rolls of toilet paper, which is nice. But when you have just a – I mean, it looked like my dog ate a full sheet of Hershey's chocolate. That's basically what it looked like in that toilet. So, yeah, suffice to say, regular toilet paper just ain't cutting it for that one. Yeah, I understand. Man, all right. So I don't know what I'm, because I really am trying to eat healthy and I actually have, you know, lost about 15 pounds. But, you know, part of me is thinking, is it fucking worth it if I'm going to do that every fucking time I eat this shit, you know?

2:08:57Jeff Passan:Maybe just the spicy broccoli. Spicy broccoli is pretty good. It's healthy. Yeah, exactly. So we'll see. You know, it's just a learning game. We're proud of you. Thank you. Jet was pulling for you too. He was starting to call you a pacifier blankie thing, but he didn't fully understand. Yeah, Jets, he's a sawed-off little prick, so he can say that kind of stuff. That's fine. Actually, I'm upset I didn't see him at the whole run derby because I would have liked to smack the taste out of his mouth at least once or twice. We didn't see him. No, we didn't. Netflix, Fox. Yeah. The fact that we were down there even.

2:09:29Jeff Passan:Yeah, I know.

2:09:30Pat McAfee:I don't think people fully understand how absurd that is in the modern world that we're in with the way rights go. Shout out to MLB letting us down there.

2:09:37Jeff Passan:I was thinking that too. I was like, I wonder how many times we were on the Netflix coverage.

2:09:41Pat McAfee:Never.

2:09:42Jeff Passan:And they probably never – yeah, so they probably never panned over there. That's what I'm saying.

2:09:46Pat McAfee:I was thinking of the producer. Now, a lot of people are thinking about the producer at Netflix and the decisions that are getting made in the cuts and everything like that. There had to be so many of us sitting right amongst every – because we're paying attention too. Oh, yeah. Scheno calling every single shot. Like, that's the exact reaction.

2:10:05Jeff Passan:Paul Schenes. The Cardinals guys were like literally right next to us and their teammate won the Derby. So it's like. Couldn't. Tough. Get him off the fucking camera.

2:10:16Adam Schefter:Please. Miz. Those webbers down there. Everybody. We had everybody down there. We had a blast. Yeah, it was awesome.

2:10:22Pat McAfee:We had a great time at the Home Run Derby. The baseball lads are a good time.

2:10:26Adam Schefter:They are. Great time.

2:10:28Pat McAfee:Ladies and gentlemen, we will be announcing the$50 ,000 worth of winners tomorrow on Winter Wednesday. Missed it last week because we were on the road. But for those that are new to the program, any giveaway that happens, like, for instance, if I make this football into that hoop right over there, we will give 30 people$500. Boom.

2:10:48Adam Schefter:Glass. Oh!

2:10:51Jeff Passan:There you go! Wow. Wow. Yeah. Boom. 50 days. Wow.

2:11:00Pat McAfee:Yeah. Okay. So we will announce the winner of that also tomorrow. Okay, but we will also have the kick winners from whenever I kick the ball into the hoop over here. So$65 ,000 worth of winners will be announced tomorrow in$500 increments. To win these particular giveaways, all you have to do is repost this post right here. You have to say something nice to somebody. That'd be cool to see in the mentions. Yeah. Has been a lot of that over the last, like, 24 hours or so. Be cool to see that. And then also put the easiest way to digitally pay you, and then you could be randomly selected to be one of the winners.

2:11:32Pat McAfee:We can't thank you all enough for allowing us to do this for a living. How about that? Yeah. Yeah. Awesome.

2:11:36Jeff Passan:Good start. Never a doubt. I mean, you've been hanging around the Dude Perfect guys a little bit. You drain the first shot every time.

2:11:41Pat McAfee:I'll tell you what. I would like to hang around Tyler and the boys down there. Yeah. I mean, they are awesome and spectacular. But, yeah, that's fun that that went in there. It almost is like maybe we have been doing some things right around here. Maybe.

2:11:53Adam Schefter:Also, there's no gimmicks around here either, AJ. That was real. What are you trying to say? One shot, one throw.

2:12:01Jeff Passan:What are you saying? One opportunity.

2:12:03Adam Schefter:No smoke drink. You talking about Tyler? Don't miss your chance to play. I'm not talking about anybody.

2:12:07Jeff Passan:Okay, good. All right. Purple hoser.

2:12:11Pat McAfee:We would like to say thank you for allowing us to do this for a living. Actually. Hell yeah. Actually, the only reason why this happens. So thank you for watching. Thank you for following along. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of the sports world. Because literally all we're trying to do is be an asset for sport for the good of sport. and on that note rookies are reporting five different buildings NFL training

2:12:37Jeff Passan:that's tomorrow now we're talking real players they should have Patriots and we can't wait

2:12:43Pat McAfee:to talk to and with all of you for the biggest best football season that obviously ESPN has the Super Bowl for yeah they also have the college football playoff national championship I believe so do we have the entire season for both of them I think so yeah let's enjoy this life let's enjoy the hell out of sport and let's enjoy the fact that all of you let us do this. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And also, on X is where you've got to repost that video, say something nice, somebody will potentially be one of the winners tomorrow, winner Wednesday. AJ, anything to say to the people?

2:13:16Jeff Passan:What did we say? God bless everybody. Who said that over at the live show?

2:13:22Adam Schefter:That's right. Kenley. He said bless Jesus.

2:13:25Jeff Passan:Bless you. Bless everybody. Bless you. Actually, way to nail that one, AJ, all the way from Ohio. Be a friend telling something nice and might change their life. We're in this thing together.

2:13:34Pat McAfee:Team on me, team on three. For the good of sport, baby. One, two, three. Team. Goodbye.
