In short
Topic Week 1 NFL recap centered on the Kansas City Chiefs’ dominant win over the Denver Broncos, with debate about whether the Chiefs’ defense/run game is truly elite or whether Denver’s offense/play-calling is the bigger issue. The show also covers early-season injury updates (Chiefs’ corner Mansoor Delaney, Commanders QB Sam Darnold, Chargers WR Ladd McConkey, Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr.), plus quarterback backup storylines (Vikings and Carson Wentz) and a brief look at potential trades.

Key claims
- Chiefs are “still the Chiefs”: their offense and defense both looked strong, especially the run game (Kenneth Walker as a focal point).
- Broncos’ offensive struggles point to Davis Webb’s play-calling and a major drop-off from what Sean Payton typically produces; the Broncos’ offense was among the worst Payton performances in a long time.
- Chiefs’ defense is for real, including young contributors; early turnover via a rookie/young secondary play.
- Tackling issues (28 missed tackles) are a major factor in the Broncos’ defensive failure early in the season.
Notable examples
- Kenneth Walker: 221 carries last season, Super Bowl MVP; Chiefs repeatedly featured him (run and targets).
- Travis Kelce: 57-yard catch highlighted; Mahomes’ knee looked good after a quiet passing start.
- Mansoor Delaney: big interception on third-and-11; MRI planned after a scapula-related injury scare.
- Sam Darnold: “butt/glute” injury, not hip socket; expected to miss one or two games.
- Ladd McConkey: rib injury listed as chest; day-to-day evaluation.
- Joey Porter Jr.: ramping up after missing Week 1; contract impasse raises trade speculation.
- Vikings: Carson Wentz performance discussed as a reason Kevin O’Connell may trust him short-term, but Kyler’s return is still expected.

On this football's the greatest Tuesday, September 15, 2026, this sports program begins now. Football! It is incredible. Week 1 of the NFL slate wrapped up last night at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri as the Chiefs proved that they is still the Chiefs. The Chiefs went crazy last night. Now, Kenneth Walker being added to this team I think is a special addition. This could take us back a couple years where the Kansas City Chiefs had a run game and a powerful defense, and Patrick Mahomes had to basically learn how to not be a quarterback that wants to throw the ball at the time.
0:40Pat McAfee:Hand the ball off, defense will get you stuff, and then when we have a big third down or a late fourth quarter, we need to drive. Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelsey would make their magic. Well, turns out it looks like they got the same script for this particular season, and this guy, K-9, obviously Super Bowl MVP. He had 221 carries for the Seattle Seahawks last year. Has this magnificent run with them. Leads them to a Super Bowl. Gets the MVP. Then he's out of the building. And you think to yourself, well, they had Charbonnet. They had a couple other running backs. Was Kenneth Walker really that impressive?
1:07Pat McAfee:Why do the Chiefs love him so much? Well, what we found out is the Chiefs love him because they're going to give the ball every single day. They handed the ball off to him. They threw the ball to him. Whenever Patrick Holmes was looking for things, he found K-9. They had another back that was able to spell him a little bit. But with Kenneth Walker, Eric Bien-Ami being back in the building too, I think he's kind of hard-nosed, tough, trenches-type guy, if you listen to what they're saying in that locker room. That team was fun to watch. Patrick Mahomes didn't even complete a passer for 10 yards.
1:30Pat McAfee:Now, Travis Kelsey goes for 57. Yes, he did. And I just so happened to be watching that particular catch with the entire Kelsey Swift family. It was an incredibly hot box, loaded box, excited box, enthusiastic box, bought-in box, and watching him do that was awesome. You know, because there was a lot of questions. Travis, you know, last season wasn't his best season. Obviously, he's another year older. He's about to be 37 years old. Is he still going to be a weapon? Well, broke some tackles, strided out, was obviously open for Patrick whenever he needed it. And you know what? A lot of people say a couple years ago maybe get to the end zone.
2:01Pat McAfee:I don't know. I don't know if he does. I think he looked fast. I think he looked incredibly strong, confident, and comfortable in that offense. So if Patrick Mahomes is only going to play better, which we assume is going to happen, and that knee looked pretty good. Yeah. Yes, it did. When he got intro'd last night in there, it was cool to be a part of the pregame festivities. Shout out to everybody for allowing me to be a part of Monday Night Countdown. That show was cool to be a part of. Excited to get the flow of that and, you know, celebrate the weekend it was and the game that's coming. And the way Scott Van Pelt operates is cool to watch.
2:31Pat McAfee:I mean, he's obviously a legend in the game. Jason McCourty, incredible. He was absolutely phenomenal. Jason Kelsey, his energy is the greatest. And also one of the best offensive linemen to ever play football. And then Swagu, I don't think people know how big Swagu is. I was walking behind him up the tunnel. So we get kicked off the field after Monday Night Countdown. Okay. Excuse me? Not allowed to be honest. Games on ESPN. I know. And also, like, we're supposed to – we've got the halftime show coming up, you know. But we get kicked off the field, basically. So, you know, like, hey, you guys need to get the hell out of here.
3:02Pat McAfee:So there's a bus RV. Shout out to Blue Compass RV. I think we gave credit to it in the Monday Night Countdown thing, and that popped up on the screen. I was like, shout out Blue Compass RV. Getting a little bit of a run here. But they have an incredible bus. So we kind of get kicked off the field until two minutes left to go do the halftime show. And then we got to get back off the field, please, or whatever. That was interesting. I found that very interesting. You had the owner in the show. I know. How much money are they paying to have Monday Night Football? No pit billion. What? I don't know.
3:26Pat McAfee:It was an interesting – I'm learning a lot. I'm learning a lot here. I'm like, can we watch the kickoff? No. I got to get off the field. Get your ass off the field. I'm like, well, I'm doing the National Anthem. I need to hear the home of the team. That was electrifying. The flyover, so incredible. Flyover, we have that bomber flying over. There's a little prop plane above it. Oh. Okay, like one of those ones that flies like a flag behind it. Didn't have a flag behind it. It was just kind of flying over. So I'm watching this thing. Oh, yes. And I go this way, and I see this little prop plane. I had a bomber flying under a prop plane out there.
4:02Pat McAfee:Okay, that was just like kind of a mind-blowing experience in that. But then the way their fans delivered, that felt like a college atmosphere. That felt like a college atmosphere. That guy crushed the absolute hell out of the national anthem. And placed one crazy whenever they showed him on the board. I guess he's probably done it before and has nailed it every single time. But, yeah, that bomber flying over, the Chiefs kingdom going absolutely absurd. Broncos fans were in the building as well. They were very loud. It felt special in there. Now we get summoned off the field. Get the hell out of here.
4:32Pat McAfee:It's like, all right, okay, cool. It would be nice to be able to watch this, baby. Okay, we'll go up to the bus. I'm walking behind Swagoo. Holy shit. House. This guy. Yeah. I mean, he is this wide, this tall. He's just casually walking. He's got, like, maybe the greatest attitude I've ever been around. I don't think anybody's ever seen him down. Obviously, one of the best fathers of all time. But whenever you look at that set, I just couldn't help but look around. I'm like, that guy is first-round draft pick. This guy, Hall of Famer. Jason McCourty, absolute stallion. Super Bowl, everything about him is incredible.
5:03Pat McAfee:And then Scott Van Pelt's a goat. It's like, I am so lucky and thankful to be there for all of it. And getting a chance to chat about that game beforehand and then seeing it kind of unfold. It's fun week one, you know, to kind of guess what a team's going to do. But now, are we in the position that we know teams? Like, are the Broncos dead because Davis Webb is calling plays? You know, and Miss Laura at halftime goes, how was that first half not calling plays? He goes, ask me after another half. And they have the worst performance that a Sean Payton offense has had in like whatever, 100 years or whatever the case is.
5:34Pat McAfee:I think that amount of yards that they've had has only happened one other time in the history of a Sean Payton offense. And so Davis Webb is certainly going to have the eyes of Sean Payton upon him for the entire length of this. But Sean Payton told us whenever we talked to him at the Combine, he basically said, like, I think he's about a year or two away from being a coordinator. But the rest of the league may be one of them in there. Here's from Sean Payton at the Combine. I think this young coach, and I say young, Davis Webb is something. and sure it's funny the timeline that when you have a young coach like a Joe Brady or a Declan Doyle or any of these guys that that I've been fortunate enough to hire when they're young coaches like what you think is their timeline of success position coach coordinator head coach is always two years behind what the league sees it's much quicker what the league sees is uh the rest of the league trying to hire your guy to potentially do something and it seemed as if he He was alluding to, like, I made the move for Davis Webb because some other team wanted him to be a coordinator, and I was a big fan of his.
6:36Pat McAfee:After last night's performance, do we give more credit to Spags and the Kansas City Chiefs defense, or do we have to question how this offense is going to be? We saw Bo Nix lead the number one seed, AFC seed team, Denver Broncos, last year. He looked great. There was moments where Bo Nix looked like a bona fide quarterback. Now, obviously wasn't as consistent at the quarterback position. Obviously there was some stuff that he had to continue to grow, but he's a young quarterback. maybe he'd be able to do that. You bring in a brand new play caller for him. Is this going to stunt the growth of Bo Nix?
7:05Pat McAfee:Is this going to change the entire Denver Broncos' future? Is this a decision that Sean Payton's going to regret? That's what everybody is immediately talking about. But I think we should maybe give a little credit to Kansas City Chiefs' defense, too. Absolutely. I mean, the way they played was outrageous. So, last night, my big takeaway, Chiefs are still the Chiefs. Denver Broncos certainly have to wonder about that play calling position with Davis Webb. How long does that last? Does Sean Payton just kind of let that happen as he's standing on the sideline? We shall see. Everybody's wondering that question.
7:30Pat McAfee:And I think the Chiefs' defense is for real, which is a run game and a defense. And Patrick Mahomes or the Chiefs all the way back to getting to the mountaintop. Nine-year NFL vet, D-Bud is here. Your thoughts on kind of my takeaway from last night, and do you agree or disagree on that with the Denver Broncos maybe just running into a stout Chiefs' defense? Yeah, that's definitely part of it. I mean, imagine your first test being against a multiple-time Super Bowl champ, Steve Spagnuolo. He's rebuilding that defense, especially in the secondary loss. didn't have any starting experience basically starting last night.
8:00You saw the rookie get his pick, Delane, early in the game. But yeah, I think it was a tough test. And look, Sean Payton, he has the trust in his young guys. Sometimes we see the promotion within or elevation in money, how much they're getting paid or elevation in responsibility. So obviously he trusts him. He likes him. Now, how long is that leash? Even above Sean Payton, which obviously Sean Payton is running the show, but you think about that ownership group When you go out and hire Sean Payton and you pay him all that money, you hire him because he has been a wizard of a play caller. We've seen this done before.
8:32D 'Amico Ryan, he gave up play calling duties as well. He's a great play caller in Houston. So we've seen it done before, but when you have the expectations that you have in Denver, you want to see that quarterback. You want to see Bo Nix continue to evolve, continue to get better. So, yeah, those are our fair questions. This is a tough test, and maybe it's like how we do with players. Maybe it's the first quarter of the season, then we reevaluate things. We know sometimes these coaches are impatient. Maybe it is two games. Like, hey, don't get your shit together. We'll have a Dan Campbell situation where he's taking over play calling.
9:01So we shall see. Something to definitely keep an eye on. But I think all fair questions after week one.
9:06Pat McAfee:Yeah, and I was so impressed with the Chiefs defense because they had young guys in multiple positions. Obviously, that was going to be a question mark going in. And I assumed Davis Webb was like, we're going to find out. We're going to find out. Delaney gets a pick on the first play. Yeah. I mean, he gets hurt on that. That gets tackled like a quarterback in that entirety. But what a phenomenal play. Third and 11. and obviously gets a pick early. Place goes crazy. I don't even know if we were out of the tunnel yet. Don't think I saw this play, but it was certainly awesome as we were walking out getting escorted.
9:32Pat McAfee:We can't even watch. You can't have a bag over your head. We can't watch. I was so blustered. I was very intrigued by that entire series of events. But I will say, what that defense did last night, I think put a lot of Kansas City Chiefs fans, kind of worries to a little bit of ease. Patrick Mahomes as well with how he was moving. When he gets introduced into the stadium, let alone benson okay left tackle yes undrafted rookie left tackle out of indiana he played right tackle right guard in camp hey congratulations you're starting left tackle a position you haven't played since high school for patrick mahomes yeah this guy gonna be greatest of all time in your rookie season not drafted just a few i don't know how this guy slips through the cracks by the way i know we got the draft process all figured out we all have so many different ways to look at it and maybe there's something that we don't know yeah how does an undrafted rookie end up being the starting left tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes and have a night that's seemingly quiet.
10:25Pat McAfee:Because nobody even notices. He had to show up at minicamp and say, hey, I hope you'll sign me 6 '6", 330, national champion, who can play right guard, right tackle, and left tackle. What super genius, I guess all teams, that just kind of slipped through the cracks. I have no idea how that happens. But when he gets introduced onto the field, I mean, it was, I was like, golly, this guy doesn't look scared at all. And then Travis Kelsey comes out, obviously, the place. He rubs last first home opener, potentially, you know, in that entire. And then Patrick Mahomes is last. And he comes out flexing.
10:57Pat McAfee:Okay, he comes out flexing. It's like, okay. And then he starts bouncing, like, back and forth almost. It's like, is he testing me right now? Like, as he's going out there, is he kind of seeing what it is? There was zero hesitancy. Nope. There was zero, like, fall off. There was zero, like, limping, it felt like. And his mindset mentality was like, I need to go get it right now. So I enjoyed the hell out of watching Patrick Mahomes play football. I was very lucky and thankful to be an arrowhead. And I think the Chiefs are still the Chiefs, and I think people are going to have to deal with them the rest of the way.
11:27Pat McAfee:Now, one game, how much can you judge? Did the Broncos play ass? Did the Chiefs play out of their mind? Did they get some good bounces? Did the Denver Broncos not get the best bounces? Long season, I think Chiefs is only getting better. I assume the Broncos are as well. They're better. Did they tell you?
11:43Darius Butler:28 missed tackles. Yeah, did the Broncos tell you beforehand on the field that they weren't going to tackle anybody last night? You know what I realized?
11:50Pat McAfee:This is an interesting thing. A lot of guys, when they didn't have their uniforms on and they were warming up, boy, I had no idea who the fuck anybody was. Helmets are crazy. I started, no, no helmets.
12:03Darius Butler:No, no, I mean just like watching NFL when they always have an NFL or a helmet on. Oh, yes, yes. I'm saying like it's crazy. You need numbers.
12:10Pat McAfee:Yeah, so the only reason why. Numbers, names. Yeah, I need a number. I need something out there. I saw Cortland Sutton, and the only reason why I knew that is because J.C. Kelsey said, is that Cortland Sutton? He looks like a stallion. This guy is just an absolute. You forget, everybody's a monster. Like, everybody out there is an absolute monster. And then each Jack guy, I didn't know which guy was which guy. So I was dapping up a couple people, telling them they're going to have a great season. Turns out they were just equipment managers. Hey, see what's up? They're going to have a jack strike coach.
12:38Pat McAfee:Everyone matters. Part of the team. I've got to figure that out, though. I've got to start reading through the program. But, no, I had no heads up that they weren't going to be able to tackle anybody. This Denver Broncos defense was the staple of the Denver Broncos. This Denver Broncos defense was the story of the Denver Broncos. They led the NFL in sacks the last two years. So you would think with a hobbled Patrick Mahomes, with a left tackle that wasn't drafted just a couple months ago, has never played the position since high school, that the Denver Broncos would feast. Instead, maybe Coach Tomlin, what he said on Sunday Night Football, is kind of ringing true here over this first week.
13:09Pat McAfee:And how long should we expect this to potentially last with defenses just not being physical? Yeah, first couple weeks, you got to get acclimated to tackling again. So we talked about it here when AJ was here to reiterate that Mike Tomlin point. The only time we take guys to the ground, the only time you're live tackling once you get in the National Football League is on game day. So now you haven't tackled all offseason. Now you got to go out there and tackle Kenneth Walker or Rasheed Rice or Travis Kelsey in the open field or Patrick Mahomes in the open field. And that's that's very, very difficult to do.
13:39But I mean, 28 missed tackles, according to next gen stacks unacceptable. Kenneth Walker was responsible for 14 of those. He's obviously dynamic Super Bowl MVP. You mentioned it, Eric Ben and me being back in the building. And as they get, you know, Patrick Mahomes back up to speed, first year he hasn't played in preseason. And the timing, the thing, it just didn't look right in the passing game, especially early, but we only expect that to get better. We talked about it yesterday with Joe Burrow. The Bengals winning despite Joe Burrow not playing great. Same thing with the Chiefs. You should be more worried if you're not a Chiefs fan to see these guys go out and win with 15 not playing his best ball.
14:12Pat McAfee:The run game accounted for 56 % of the Kansas City's yardage yesterday, which is the highest percentage in a Patrick Mahomes game called your pro. That's a Hembo stat. Shout out to him. And it was obvious at the beginning. I mean, set up. Yeah. Boom. They can't stop it. Set up. Boom. Right back to him. And it was like, that Chiefs place? Oh, there's another. Whenever Kenneth got introduced? Yeah, out of bounds. It was an awesome welcome to the city. and then it was a great welcome to the team by Andy Reid and the enemy just to hand him the ball. I think they gave a big, loud announcement to the NFL.
14:47Pat McAfee:Hey, the reason why we signed the Super Bowl MVP is because we're going to go back to – we're going to try to pound the hell out of the team. And I like that they're taking that stance at this stage because that's what the rest of the NFL is doing too. Well, we had more 13 personnel this year – or this weekend than we had seen in a long time. Run game, under center run game has become more prolific. Just a couple years ago, everybody was shotgun spinning all over the place. Then Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles lead the NFL in rushing. They have more rush yards than pass yards. And we felt a little bit of a turn of the tide going back to the old school football.
15:18Pat McAfee:And now we're fully entrenched in it. And we're seeing more points than ever before. I think it's a nice little mold of the high-flying offense and then the power football of the past. Feels like we've landed in a beautiful little spot. Now, will the defenses, after they're able to tackle people and realize that the regular season has started, Yeah. Okay, will they be able to catch up to what this offense is now with the pounding, the pounding, the pounding? Will we get super boring football games week six through like week 13 whenever the defenses are all in their prime and offense are just kind of stalemating into each other?
15:49Pat McAfee:There's a chance. But week one showed us offensive football is alive and well in the NFL and has an old-school sense to it as well, Conman. Yeah, it's electric. I mean, anytime you're getting points, points, points, you're going to love it. I mean, the amount of running backs you scored multiple touchdowns, I can kind of go through some of them in my mind, but like Henry, Walker, Gibbs, DeAndre Swift, I think had three touchdowns. Like the running back explosion is coming, and it's kind of awesome because then maybe those contracts will go up. But if you are a Denver Broncos fan, probably panicking today.
16:21But like we just mentioned, their defense missed the most tackles in the history of football probably. They're going to be okay. Their offensive line, how many times was it happening where Spags had eight guys right in front of them on the line of scrimmage kind of playing that mind game with davis webb it feels like davis webb he'll figure it out now i don't know if uh the waltons are going to make a call to sean payton and say hey if you don't start calling plays tomorrow we're going to have to figure something out here because we just built you this new practice facility and our team looks like absolute shit but that's the other part of it too for the broncos like waddle and nicks never really got on the same page we heard about waddle all offseason how great he's going to be feels like that's going to develop.
17:02I don't think him or Cortland Sutton had a catch in the first quarter. Damn near the first half. So the Broncos, as bad as they looked, it did feel more so like we forgot how good the Chiefs are, how good Spags is as a DC in general, how good Andy Reid is to pivot his team in, use the offensive line. So I think if you're a Broncos fan, you're okay.
17:22Pat McAfee:Okay. I hope so. I hope so. I don't know. Yeah. I genuinely hope so. Or at least the gap is, you know. I mean, Scott brought it up last night when I said, hey, the Denver Broncos were 11-2 last year in one-score games.
17:36Darius Butler:Yeah, that's always.
17:37Pat McAfee:That's like a big-time football God's blessing to you for a year. That normally finds its –
17:42Darius Butler:Yes, it does.
Read the full transcript
17:43Pat McAfee:That does kind of offset every once in a while. And I think that's what Scott was trying to say. I hope that doesn't happen to the Denver Broncos. But I think the past has told us, like, whenever you get super-duper blessed and get lucky bounces in these one-score games, which most NFL games are, normally the level is found on the other side, usually the next year. And everybody just goes back to the Minnesota Vikings from a couple years back where they go on that miraculous run, and I think they win like 12 one-score games. I think there's like eight comebacks or something. And then the next year they're like 0-7 in those particular games.
18:12Pat McAfee:Commanders last year. Yeah, because it's like crazy how football works like that. I hope that's not the case with the Denver Broncos. But we can't overreact after one week, especially with the amount of talent they have. No, I will overreact to the fact that we lost our bet last night. Let's go to one half of the hammer. Done. Cowboys AP tone. It was plus 600. Yeah. Obviously, those are big-time odds. And as soon as they came out and they started handing the ball off to Kenneth Walker, I thought to myself, yes, this is exactly what we need to do. Davis Webb, I assume, was going to do the same with Dobbins on the other side.
18:41Pat McAfee:Also had Harvey. I didn't expect that to be such a split. I thought J.K. Dobbins was going to be getting the ball a little bit more. Nonetheless, Kenneth Walker scores. Probably could have scored a few different times. He did score twice. But we see nothing from J.K. Dobbins in the Denver Broncos. Why'd we lose, Tone? And people are telling me that we're supposed to win these things. Why'd we lose?
18:59Darius Butler:Well, if we're looking back to what we've done this season, I believe we're now 4-2, so that is winning. You're not going to win them all, especially when it's plus 400 boosted to plus 600. So, you know, those people can relax. It's called gambling.
19:12Pat McAfee:And also be responsible. Be responsible. Don't gamble too much or you're mad at me whenever we lose. Because we told you specifically, don't be an asshole here.
19:21Darius Butler:You shouldn't be mad when you lose.
19:23Pat McAfee:Well, you should be a little bit upset when you lose in anything. I think you should have a little bit of a family. Yes, but not at us. You should be bummed out. At yourself, yes. We felt pretty good about it. It did feel like we were on the right side there with the way the game was being played. Now, on that note, J.K. Dobbins was nowhere near a touchdown ever. That was kind of heartbreaking.
19:40Darius Butler:The Denver Broncos, besides the drive after Mahomes' rushing touchdown where they went down and scored a touchdown there, they were nowhere near a touchdown either. So I would blame the Broncos more than us because they played their worst game over an entire calendar year. Thanks, Webb. Yeah, thanks a lot. That's who to blame. Actually, it's Sean Payton's fault. Boom.
20:03Pat McAfee:Okay, so I like that. I kind of agree. Bo Nix took a huge leap last year. I understand you don't want to lose this guy. You like him. You think he's going to be good. But wasn't this a possibility? He took a huge step. Sean Payton's one of the best OCs of all time, one of the best play callers of all time. Like, can't we maybe, like, maybe meet somewhere in the middle instead of just being like, all right, kid, you're calling the plays. I'll be close by. He even said he was like, I had to make sure I got to do something with my right hand so I'm not constantly getting in there. Like, he wants to call the plays still so badly.
20:35It just, it's one week. It's hard to overreact. But, like, that's a big, Bo Nix is still young. Like, he can still get to that next level. I just, it seems kind of crazy. And if he throws for five touchdowns next week, I'll look like an absolute moron. But still.
20:48Pat McAfee:Well, Davis Webb might dial it up. Certainly last night's bags had his number. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is junior NFL insider for ESPN and NFL Network. Icon. Legend. He's an actor. He's a cooker. He's a cat owner. Yeah, probably. Golfer. Pez enthusiast. He loves Pez. Also, Harry Potter, I think, is a big fan. You guys are walking to Wardour. He'll probably be pumped up about that. Hogwarts. He does smoke meat. Loves smoking meat. Oh, yeah. The most. This guy smokes a lot of meat. Smokes meat for a living. This dude smokes maybe the most amount of meat I've ever seen. You open his IG story, you're going to see him smoking meat.
21:27Pat McAfee:Ladies and gentlemen, the massive meat smoker himself, junior NFL insider for ESPN, Ian Rapp. Yay! Rapp. Yep. All right. Let's go. What's up? I mean, you're right. That was actually one of the nicest things you've ever said about me. I think you're a great meat smoker. Love smoking meat. I've never experienced it personally, but from optically outside looking in, you might be one of the best meat smokers to ever exist. Watched him smoke meat before. You have? Yeah. To experience it is different, obviously. And maybe at some point you will. But you're right. Optically, I am amazing. I do great IG stories.
22:09What's going on here? I'm not saying you, but maybe you or someone you know could experience it and you could learn how good of a – never mind. What's up?
22:17Pat McAfee:I had great meat last night, I will say. I had some fun. Where'd you go? Where'd you go? It was the – Levy's was one of the companies that does the stadium concessions. They smoked some short rib for 17 hours. Oh, falling right. Yeah, that's good meat. That was good meat. And I'm telling you, I like Jason, Kelsey, and Swagoo excited to eat the food. You know, like on game day, they bring food for a thousand. Yeah, and then the flies just eat it. Well, the crew gets to eat it afterwards, which is great. But it's always an interesting move on, like, what do we eat? How do we eat? Also, you're showing us eat.
22:57How entertaining can it be to eat? Yeah.
22:59Pat McAfee:Yeah, like what? So feeding Saban has just become a fun thing because I don't think Coach Saban wants to grab anything. So it's like I'm just trying to help a lad out who certainly needs some food. but it's on TV. So what do you actually do? These people, Swagoo and Jason Kelsey, just dove right in. I'm like, thank you. Thank you for doing that. Then Scott Van Pelt kept saying, like, you don't want to watch me, man. You don't want to watch me. They were all saying it. And I'm like, what? I was so – I was befuddled. I really was. I'm like, what are you – are you a monster? Like, what does it look like?
23:32Pat McAfee:That looks good. Yeah, it was so good. That was the burger, and then there was a little short rib. Then obviously there was a 17-hour thing. And then, look, they're saying you don't want to see Scott Van Pelt eat. He eats like a monster. And Scott's like, I'll eat this when we go off air. And I'm just, why do we? No. We're doing that right now. Eat it now. And then he took a massive bite. They didn't get on camera. And he did kind of eat like an animal. Oh, okay. I would say he had a huge bite. Really? Jaw displaced almost. I was very impressed with him. But so much fun last night. Let's move on from smoking and eating meat.
24:03Pat McAfee:Let's go to the meat of this thing. which is obviously ball. Let's go right last night. Mansoor Delaney gets a huge pick, but maybe AC joint? I don't want to be guessing anything. What are you hearing about him? Because obviously that's a massive piece, potentially gone from a very young secondary in Kansas City. Yeah, first of all, look great. I mean, the Chiefs have been really high on him forever. I mean, we saw him basically run the route for a receiver yesterday, get a pick. This is a guy who's got a really, really high ceiling. So he had a sort of hairline fracture in his scapula, I believe in, well, he had it previously, then came to training camp, sort of had it evaluated, and was in a red jersey for a lot of training camp.
24:42Landed on that same injury. So, heard it, didn't feel good, obviously came out of the game, but he's getting an MRI today. I would say they are hopeful that it's just a sprain, there's not anything significant. And, you know, you hate to speculate on injuries, and I would never want to do that, But a best-case scenario here would be that he landed on an injury he previously hurt, and it just felt weird. Like, that would be a great outcome. It didn't seem like structurally there was a major issue here. But anyway, MRI probably around now, and hopefully we'll have more by this afternoon.
25:17Pat McAfee:The place was upside down. Great turnover on third 11, first series. I mean, what a way to start this particular season for the Kansas City Chiefs. So let's flip over to the Denver Broncos side. Obviously, it was a huge piece of our conversation. We love Sean Payton. We're a big fan of Sean Payton. Davis Webb taking the reins. He told us at the Combine, like, the league is normally two years ahead of what you would like to do with your young coaches. So it felt like he was saying that other teams wanted Davis Webb to be their coordinator. He might not have thought the time was perfect for it, but he felt obligated maybe to give him his opportunity because he felt like he had earned it and deserved it.
25:50Pat McAfee:After a lackluster performance last night, one of the worst offensive performances by a Sean Payton team in forever, actually. So can you just tell me a little bit about what the future holds here, how we should view this? And we all just assume Sean Payton is going to be taking the headset and the clipboard from him. Is that reality or not? I hope not. Everything you're saying is true and accurate. And like, this should be a major discussion point today. When you have the kind of offensive performance you have, this should be the conversation. But I hate it. I do because Davis Webb is a really good young coach.
26:25Sean Payton did this for a good reason. He probably would have lost him if he didn't make him the play caller. You want to keep good, smart coaches in your building. And Sean Payton, as good of a play caller as he is, he is just as good of an evaluator of coaches. So he knows what he has in Davis Webb. I thought it would be better. I think everybody thought it would be better. But it is also not a one-week thing. Play calling is hard. They didn't run the ball enough. Now, Sean Payton also doesn't run the ball enough, which is why he writes like run the ball on the top of his plate sheet just to remind him.
26:59But it is going to get better, and the Broncos believe it is going to get better. And I hope what they do is trust in their really good coach to use the lessons and make it better. Week one is weird. It's always weird. And Spags, as you guys were talking about, is awesome. We got reminded of that yesterday. But I do not believe this is a short-term experiment for Denver.
27:20Pat McAfee:Okay, sounds good. We'll obviously keep our eyes peeled to that. Let's go to another injury that took place early, though. Opening night at a quarterback position. Not really being chatted about at all. Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, Rap Sheet, is there any kind of update on Sam Darnold? Obviously, I mean, it feels like it was, you know, two weeks ago at this point. But it didn't look great. And here and anywhere, you know, like two to three weeks. But then there was the, hey, they dodged a massive bullet here. Do we have any idea how long Sam Darnold's going to be out for? Yes. So, not going to play this week.
27:51and so first of all as far as the injury goes we've been calling it a hip it's actually a it's a butt like hurt his glute hurt his butt muscle basically you know kind of jarring and weird and looked strange um but he hurt his butt um which is actually a great outcome because in the hip socket it seems to be absolutely fine which like you know all like everyone on the internet is basically assuming that he's got like the tua injury like this was not that or not even close. So I would say the commander's game in week three is 17 days from when the Seahawks played. There is at least a chance that he plays in that game.
28:29So I would say probably missing one or two games, which is like really, really good outcome.
28:35Pat McAfee:Can you explain further a little bit? Is it a bruised butt, sprained butt, pulled butt? What type of butt is this injury? Because it looked bad when he was walking. The walk looked bad, which led us all to believe it was a hip. What happened to his gluteus maximus that could potentially keep him out here for three weeks or so listen i'm not going to get into all the details but i don't even think it's a gluteus maximus there's other gluteus muscles that i believe oh like the minimus in there or the gluteus i don't multiple gluteus uh situations so i don't believe it's the maximus i believe it's one of the others but yeah I mean I think this is it looked and this is sort of the problem with injury reporting now is it looked awful and then the actual outcome you get all the tests and it's like pull a muscle I mean look at that he looks like it's yeah it looks like the hospital also scary yeah they got out of the hospital in the morning also scary I mean all of it was very scary especially for a quarterback that just won a Super Bowl with a team that is obviously poised to do do great things again.
29:41Pat McAfee:Happy he's going to be back, but also Drew Locke. Hey, you call Drew Locke your bodyguard. Yeah, that's your bodyguard.
29:48Darius Butler:Tone has a question for you, Rap Sheep. Yeah, I do, Rap. Adding injury to insult for the Chargers loss to the Cardinals on Sunday was an injury to Ladd McConkie who was doing great. 5 for 82, I believe. Justin Herbert was targeting left and right, and then in the fourth quarter, or before the fourth quarter, he goes out and their offense goes to absolute shit. What's the latest update on Ladd because that's a huge injury for them. It sounds like this is one that's going to be evaluated this week, which is to say day-to-day, not like anything significant. So that's good. You know, it's a rib injury.
30:21Is it a, you know, a little pull? Is it a fracture? I think it is in the rib area and seems to be acute and not major, not significant. They listed it as chest, which, of course, makes me be like, what internal organs did he hurt? But, no, it's just a rib. um we'll see if he plays this week a lot of times guys do with this injury um but it's going to be more day to day and by the way talking about you know the the hype and reporting and everything and all that um i went on our pregame show and talked about how mike mcdaniel can call plays that he's never been able to call because of justin herbert's arm which is all true and then they went out and looked bad and i'm getting roasted on the internet um yeah so this was a bad game all around for everyone.
31:03Pat McAfee:Yeah, man. Getting roasted on the internet really stinks. Yeah, yeah, man. One day you'll learn. I'm sure they came after you for that one, man. I'm sure you're getting absolutely killed. The internet used to be like my favorite hobby. I can't even go on there anymore.
31:20Darius Butler:It was awesome early in the early days. I just get murdered on there.
31:24Pat McAfee:And then I look and I'm like, why are you saying you've never watched? You've never tweeted about sports before in your life. Get out of my world. I'm just trying to talk about a lot of bots it's a lot of hot bat right now the nfl yes it is yeah i mean these bots if they are bots incredibly clever and seemingly very personal attacking you know it is uh yeah it's been a fun run on there but we never want you to get made fun of on the internet okay there is a man who is a lightning rod in real life and on the internet and we got a chance to ride that experience again and we didn't really get um i mean a lot of info out of a senior yesterday.
32:01Pat McAfee:But remember, Senior still has J.J. McCarthy conversation happening around him. So Ty has a question for you, Rapsheet. Yeah, Senior's judgment's clouded when it comes to this because he wants J.J. McCarthy in there. But Rapsheet, what are the odds that Carson Wentz kind of takes the reins on this Vikings offense and just runs with it? He looked great yesterday. Obviously with the way concussions are these days, we have no idea how long Kyler will be out or if he will be out. What are the chances is that Carson Wentz, I mean, I assume he'll start against the Bears this week, but if he plays well again, are we looking at Carson Wentz, QB1 in Minnesota for the foreseeable future?
32:38You know, I would be surprised at that. I think with Kyler, you know, it sucks. I mean, obviously it sucks most for him. But, you know, everyone was looking forward to seeing the different dimensions this offense can have with a really dynamic quarterback who could move to throw, which is really the fun stuff. Move to run is great. Move to throw in the pocket, that's like the really fun stuff. I'm still excited about that. Minnesota's still excited about that. I'd be surprised if Carson took the reins and ran with it. I'd be surprised if he was their starting quarterback because Kyler is going to come back and I would expect it to be him.
33:12But what we did see, we spent so much time, not we on the show, but also we on the show, talking about J.J. McCarthy versus Kyler. And we really saw why Kevin O 'Connell trusts Carson Wentz like this. He's 34. He's been through it. He's seen everything. The ability to go in there with minimal reps and just be really good is like, and I mean, he just rolled. Like, that was impressive. This is why he's the backup. Like, I still believe JJ can be really good eventually. Like, we've seen quarterbacks take far more circuitous routes. But, man, Wentz was awesome, awesome on Sunday.
33:48Pat McAfee:Yeah, and I think he knows the offense, right? At least he understands what it's supposed to be because he'd been there the longest out of, you know, at least over Kyler. and maybe Kyler gets an opportunity here to watch the offense run too. Gets a chance to kind of watch some film for the Vikings because remember he just got dropped in this past offseason. You're the starter for the Vikings. Obviously it doesn't go great to start this entire thing. We already got a turnover and we got a concussion in this. Now he gets to sit back and watch maybe Carson operate and then whenever he gets dropped in there, maybe it goes even better.
34:16Pat McAfee:But if Carson Wentz just starts dealing, what, he's the first backup quarterback since 1950 to come in and have three touchdowns, zero interceptions. If he does that again against the Bears, which is possible. Panthers just put up 37 on the Chicago Bears. Not that we don't respect the Carolina Panthers offense. They might have found something down there for real. Bryce Young might have had his come out moment last year, and he might be on the trajectory of being great. New play caller there too, by the way. Where? Down in Carolina? Yeah, Brad Edson calling the plays now, and that offense was awesome.
34:49Pat McAfee:Well, everybody's obviously complimenting the Bears, as we should. Just a phenomenal performance on the offensive side. Ben Johnson calling a shot. Caleb Williams looking like a Ben Johnson quarterback more than he had looked last year. But on the other side, the Carolina Panthers put up a lot of fucking points. I mean, they had a great start to their season as well on the offensive side. If they can get some stops, hey, remember the Panthers? It's a good football team. It's a good football team, which makes us obviously have even more respect for the Chicago Bears because they obviously get a huge win because we like the Panthers.
35:17Pat McAfee:But if Carson Wentz comes in there, beats the Bears, that's a hard thing. because what is your loyalty to Kyler? He was a fan when he was a kid, and we brought him in. Yeah, okay. Okay, we respect that, but the real loyalty is to the team. So if Carson Wentz wins games for them, I don't think they're in any rush to go back to Kyler. Well, that's what it is, bro. That is what it is. We lived it. We actually lived this thing with Carson here in Indianapolis. Loved it. Yeah, he does have good ball security. Yeah, but he looks better now. You know, like he looks better than he did, I feel like. 10-4.
35:50Pat McAfee:Yeah, he threw three touchdowns, zero interceptions. I mean, I didn't see one time where he balanced himself on the football on the field. No. I didn't see him try to bounce a football off an opponent's helmet just because he wanted to in the middle of a play. I didn't see any of that stuff. One game, guys. It's not quite Mallard hunting season yet either. True. That's when it really kind of goes sideways. Yeah, Minnesota's way too cold ready to be hunting ducks. A couple months here. No, it's already over. Minnesota, way too cold. Those ducks ain't flying. You remember last year, first weekend when Tags came out, he's got his pickup.
36:21September 26th until November is when it's...
36:23Pat McAfee:The only Ducks in Minnesota are the Mighty Ducks. The Mighty Ducks are the only Ducks in Minnesota. That's a fair point. It's way... I mean, no offense to Carson Wentz or the Duck Hunters, I assume for a Duck to survive in Minnesota, it's going to have to be a slow, fat Duck. Yeah, probably. Yeah, so that's probably you. Yeah.
36:43Darius Butler:Carson is going to be...
36:44Pat McAfee:Quack, quack, quack, quack.
36:46Darius Butler:He's going to love... He can't help. So insulting.
36:48Pat McAfee:I'm assuming it's just fat ducks. I mean, how could you survive? It's so cold up there. That's not even a nice thing to say. The fat ducks? I mean. You smoke their meat every day. What are you talking about? You're smoking duck's meat every single day. I love duck. Yeah, that's disrespectful, too, what you're doing to this duck, whatever the case is. That's what they're there for. Tyler got Call of Duty coming. Is Call of Duty coming? Yes, it is. Oh, yeah. Carson's got duck hunting season coming. J.J. McCarthy might still be in this thing. We'll see if these guys can remain focused. But if Carson – oh, I didn't even think about that.
37:23Pat McAfee:Nine seasons already begun. I mean, Kevin O 'Connell is going to have to balance their all. They got Max Brosmer, the hometown kid. They might have to turn to him. Well, we don't know what his vice is either. Yeah, no, I know. I mean, we have no idea. But if Carson Wentz plays good football, I don't know why Kevin O 'Connell would think about changing anything at this particular point. It's big if. So I guess we just kind of ride it. Now, big if also, turning to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Yeah. Joey Porter Jr. is not on their team. What the hell is going on? Obviously, we got a bunch of corners paid this offseason.
37:55We thought JPJ was going to be the last one paid, and then the injury popped back up. He didn't play week one. What's the most recent update with JPJ out in Pittsburgh? All right, so what the team has said is that he's ramping up, and he didn't practice all camp, so he's got to get into shape. And obviously, you never want those soft tissue injuries, so you want to make sure a guy has a chance to ramp up. He also was dealing with a back injury, which is why he wasn't there at training camp. Obviously. And then there's the contract part of it. And so because the Steelers don't negotiate during the season, when that didn't get done, that was the end of it.
38:31Most other teams, almost every other team, you'd say, OK, we'll keep working on it. But that's not going to be the case. And what I've been wondering and what something I reported on on Sunday is the possibility of a trade. Now, there are teams that are corner-needy teams. He is a very good player with a contract situation that's a mess. They're obviously at an impasse. It's been not in a great place for a while. So does someone step up and say, we need a really good corner? He's a really good one. These are guys that are hard to find. I'm going to trade for him. Pittsburgh has been open to trading him.
39:04The interest based on their price has been not there yet. but definitely one to keep tracking on who he ends up playing. Rapture, which teams out there, top of the list, or maybe something you've heard already?
39:18Pat McAfee:Chiefs, got a guy hurt last time. Giants? Yeah, I mean, Chiefs we'll see because if Delaney is hurt, and, I mean, look how, you know, Brad Beach will make a trade. He'll be risky. He will make a trade. Lions lost Terry on Arnold. That would be another one I'd keep an eye on. You know, I mean, that's one interesting thing here is we don't know.
39:46That's significant. That's a good point. And so. Yeah, I think so. There you go. We're back. Hold on. We're back. Anyway, we don't know which team is going to lose a corner or have a significant injury. And so definitely something to keep watching.
40:01Pat McAfee:Who's driving you right now?
40:05Pat McAfee:I got my buddy over here. Yeah. Hey, when you got in the car, did you say you shut up and keep it cool? Turn the air down. No, I was like, oh, don't worry. I might be doing an interview, so just don't worry about it. And he said, he or she said, interview, why are you famous? And you said, yeah, shut it. Is that what you said? In my nice tone, yes. I also turn the air conditioning up here just so to make sure I look all. What's going on? I did a little Peloton before this. We're really proud of you, Rap. You seemingly got it all figured out. Honestly, yeah, it feels like you got it figured out pretty good.
40:45We'll see. We'll see. Maybe one day you got a senior,
40:48Pat McAfee:especially like to take that jump from junior to senior. Like a lot has to happen. You got a senior. We already got a senior. Yeah, we're not talking about now, bro. Yeah, geez. Easy, pal. Oh, geez. It sounds like that is right in the back of your mind, though, while you're on that Peloton. He's got a picture of Shefty just now. No one's job's safe, though, Rap. Keep going, brother. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. What the hell? Whoa, whoa, whoa. We don't like that. We like the two junior and senior at the top kind of doing their thing there. But senior would have given us at least a team or two that was at least snooping around.
41:19Pat McAfee:Always does. And that's kind of the thing. It's got to be a team that wants to pay. I gave a team or two. No, not really because your service cut out. Because you and the driver said don't talk to me. Yeah, he told the guy to shut the hell up. Yeah. And the guy said, you know what? How about you shut the hell up? Let me turn to the no service part of town. Yep. I'm driving in New York City. How could there be no service? Like, how is that possible? Happens every day. Yeah, it's crazy to think about. You know, that city is, it all figured out, I've been told. Starlink was supposed to take care of us.
41:47Pat McAfee:Starlink is not even there. Well, I think in the city, actually, it's worse. It doesn't work. Because there's much traffic. Yeah, Starlink actually works like where there's nothing. Fucking rural areas here, pal. That's why you... Really? Yeah. City, not a Starlink. Starlink, not a city thing. That is airplane, the greatest. Yep, yeah. because you're up around a class. Right next to it. Yeah, you're kind of touching the satellite. Starlink satellite actually above every plane is just going like this. It's the clearest picture, best face. It is, wow, what a life changer. We're watching eight games up there on Starlink.
42:18Pat McAfee:In the city, though, it kind of gets caught up, you know, kind of like this right here. So we have frequencies. You know what I'm saying? I mean, I flew back from Delta and lost Wi-Fi for two hours, so Starlink must be amazing. Well, I think there are some planes, companies from my understanding, that won't make the switch over there yeah i think for some reason i don't know i think we do know why but i i think we don't know why that guy just went over dc and just kind of yeah danny a little bit he just went over there yeah i figured out digital payment systems at the beginning i figured out rocket space i tell you i turn over the biggest platform on earth yeah i'll go to DC.
43:00Pat McAfee:Just figured that out pissed off. I mean, everybody. I saw a Tesla driving, dropping off at preschool. Had a bumper sticker on the back that said, Elon with a line through it. Driving a Tesla. Right, so it doesn't get keyed. Exactly. Hey, I'm on your side! I didn't know! They were doing that. That was happening, yeah. It was. That was a... Yeah, Delta. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, he might have been driver behind his thing, but it was the engineers that made it, of course, and then slapped it. It wasn't me. Don't do it. Please. I like it because I think we're supposed to be helping the world, but I didn't buy into all the other stuff.
43:35Pat McAfee:That's kind of something, though. You do kind of just get linked with every decision that somebody's made. Certainly. Yes, you do. Every single time. It feels like a weird time to be alive. We're lucky to be here, though. Conman has the last question for you here, Rap Sheet. Yeah, Rap Sheet. Some interesting news yesterday broke from your senior. Drew Brees was going to play for the Denver Broncos in the AFC title game. What is that situation? Is that real? How close did that get? Or is that just one of those things, Schefter, was just letting people know, hey, this could have happened? I don't like that.
44:06I mean, I think what I wanted with this story was I wanted a good Photoshop, a Breeze in a Broncos uniform. I didn't get it, which I was a little upset about. But I think one thing that sort of happened last year was the Phillip Rivers comeback kind of showed all of us that anything is possible. I mean, Tom Brady's an owner now, obviously, and can't play. obviously, but, like, I kind of do wonder if he could. So the thought of Drew Brees at 47 coming out and playing is crazy, but, like, I get why the Broncos reached out to him and were thinking about it because, like, probably could almost do it.
44:46And, anyway, would have been fun to see.
44:48Pat McAfee:So this is real. Okay, anybody else get asked? Like, Peyton? Does Peyton ever get asked? I'm sure. Really? Don't you think? Although by the end, he was not in a great place. Okay. This is Ian Rapoport. I mean, that was really nice. He's not lying. Yeah, but Phillip Rivers. Come on. I mean, we were calling. I think everybody was kind of saying a lot. Yeah, everybody was saying that for Phillip the last 10 years of his career. Yeah, so maybe these guys get out of the game. I'm not going to say they try any science or anything, but maybe they get out of the game. Maybe they get a little bit more healthy.
45:24Pat McAfee:Obviously, Drew. Maybe someone needs a punter. I was asked. I mean, that happened multiple times. Yeah, that did happen multiple times. We told that story. What was the last time?
45:36Pat McAfee:No, it was after COVID. COVID was the biggest one because we were too good at staying away from COVID. I didn't have the antibodies. So I would have had to have the eight-day hotel lockdown, and they needed me that weekend. So that would have been a super big chance. Wait, you almost did it? Like, you would have done it? Tampa Bay Buccaneers had punter and kicker. whenever Tom Brady was down there, Bruce Arians' head coach. A bunch of my coaches from the Colts were down there, and they obviously had seen me kick field goals in practice throughout my entire career and obviously punt. So they had kicker and punter go down with COVID.
46:09Pat McAfee:So I get a call. It's like, hey, obviously a lot would have to happen. We'd have to trade with you, with the Colts for you, yada, yada, yada. But first things first, we've got to find out if you have the antibodies. Can you see if you have the antibodies? because if you have the antibodies, you can bypass the eight-day hibernation thing that has to happen because we need you for this weekend or whatever. So what I pricked my – Yeah, you did. I found – I pricked my butt, and we all just kind of stood around this thing as we were waiting to see if I was going to be kicker and punter, which first time I never did that in the NFL, for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Tom Brady as a teammate in four days.
46:42Pat McAfee:I think it was like four days from then or whatever. Comes back, negative on the antibodies. We're doing too good, aren't we? We're six feet away. We weren't even making eye contact when they were telling us not to make eye contact. If we would have done that, I'd potentially attempt to be Buccaneers Super Bowl champion. I'm part of the boat parade. You're wearing a Super Bowl ringer. And also, both the guys came back, didn't have it. So I would have just been in sweats on the sideline. Go, boys. Go, boys. I wouldn't have had to do anything. And I would have been a Super Bowl champion. But instead, we had too much respect for COVID.
47:10Pat McAfee:We had the proper – well, I don't know anymore. We had a proper amount of respect for COVID. Okay, Rat, we appreciate you, brother. Have a seat. You're driving really far. I hope you get to wherever you're headed, and thank you for joining us today. Me too. Thank you, guys. Always fun to hang in. I'm glad we had service for a lot of this. You're right. Shout out, Elon. But also, don't keep my car. Ladies and gentlemen, you're up. Ladies and gentlemen, obviously the NFL just wrapped up week one, but college is delivering every single weekend. Thursday night obviously kicks off another weekend of college football.
47:44Pat McAfee:this Saturday. Lane Kiffin and LSU travel up to Ole Miss. College game day will be there. But what happened last weekend? What do we need to know? What are the main topics of college ball? Well, to do that is the host of college game day, both basketball and football. A man who loves the sport of college football. A man who has a lot of influence in the sport of college football, as he should. Legend, icon, ladies and gentlemen, Reese Davis with Reese's Pieces. Hey, Reese. What's going on, Reese? Man, I'm glad to be with you guys again. And I noticed there that Rap started to try some beef with Elon Musk.
48:21That was fun.
48:22Pat McAfee:Yeah, he did try to bring up Elon a little bit. But, you know, that's this program versus other programs. We will dabble in those things that we don't know the entirety about. And that has been a problem for us along the way. That's why we bring in people like you to help us out. Now, Reese, this weekend, what was the story, and what do you think college football is really buzzing about right now? You know, I think it's buzzing about what you just said about Lane Kiffin's return to Ole Miss. And I saw something last weekend, Pat, that I think might be important come Saturday night in Oxford. Sam Levitt, as great as he was opening weekend when we saw him field level against Clemson, had some issues against Louisiana Tech.
49:03He threw three interceptions, two of them in the red zone. This one you're seeing going back 100 yards against Louisiana Tech. They turned the ball over four straight times. We've seen how effective Sam Levitt can be running. But can Ole Miss turn him into a passer and say, you're going to beat us time after time after time throwing the football. We're going to make you make another play. Now, Ole Miss hasn't been great against the run. They let Lincoln Keenholtz run on them from the quarterback position a little bit. But if they can do this, I think this could be a big factor in the game because Trinidad Chambliss, I think, is going to, even against that great LSU defense, going to get his.
49:39So is Sam Levitt going to be able to stay away from the mistakes and beat them throwing? I think it's a big deal. Those interceptions against Louisiana Tech raised a little bit of an eyebrow for this weekend for me, and we've seen him turn the ball over some at times in his career. There are a couple of other games this weekend, I think, that are being a little bit overshadowed because of LSU and Ole Miss. The first one I think of is SMU and Louisville. And through two weeks of the season, what we've seen from the two quarterbacks in this game, you've seen the top two guys in the country in total offense, and Kevin Jennings from SMU and Lincoln Keenholz from Louisville, the guy we just talked about who was effective both on the ground and throwing the football against Ole Miss.
50:23I think that these two teams, winner of this game, you look at as maybe the best challenger to Miami, and Miami plays neither of them. in the regular season, so we might see this somewhere down the road. I'm really looking forward to this game because what we've seen from these two in the first two weeks of the season, explosive offense, I think they're going to go up and down the field too. There's a game on Friday night in the Big 12, Houston at Texas Tech. Now, if this were on a Saturday and there was no such thing as LSU and Ole Miss, we might be making our return trip to Lubbock. This is a really big game in the Big 12.
50:58But both of these teams so far have struggled against Oregon State. Oregon State under a new head coach, Jamarcus Shepard. They went to Houston, gave the Cougars everything they wanted until the fourth quarter. And then when Texas Tech went to Corvallis Saturday night, they did the exact same thing. Little side note here, I know we like to keep up with the rising stars. Have you guys noticed this wide receiver from Oregon State, Jesse Legree, went over 100 yards against both of these guys and put 240 and two touchdowns on Texas Tech Saturday night. My first thought seeing that was, man, what a great job Jamarcus Shepard did recruiting him.
51:37He's a freshman from Baltimore. And then my next thought was, he better keep recruiting. Because I imagine I'm not the only one that noticed the productivity so far. And then the last thing, and I have to offer a bit of an apology for this one. Oklahoma State and Oregon. I think Oklahoma State coming off that loss to Tulsa against Oregon at home. Drew Mestemaker told his teammates, you've got to forget about this stuff, and then went out and balled out, overcame mistakes, and then put his body on the line to get into the end zone late. And they beat the Ducks. Now, Oregon, to me, is at a crossroads.
52:14They've got a get-right game against Portland State. Last week, when you guys were kind enough to have me on, I was like, I'm not worried about Oregon. I know they didn't look great against Boise State. I was wrong about that. I am officially worried about Oregon. Oregon looks sloppy. They look complacent. And they look a lot more like Clemson and Penn State from last year, teams that had high expectations that came nowhere close to them, than they do, say, Notre Dame a couple years ago, dumped a game and came back and made it to the national championship game. And also, the Oklahoma State people have been upset, Pat, because when we were doing the warm-ups, or actually I think it was before we talked to Lanning on Saturday, I made a comment, sort of a snarky one admittedly, It said Oklahoma State had won 30 straight home openers, and I was really glad I got that note in because it was about to come to a screeching halt.
53:02I was wrong about that. You said that?
53:05Pat McAfee:I didn't even hear that. Yeah, I was wrong about that. It didn't. Now it's 31. I wish I would have heard that. I would have been like, whoa! Steve said something along the same lines. That would have been spectacular. I'm sorry I missed that. We had that great AT &T connection with Dan Lanning. He hits the crossbar for a$550 ,000 donation. I think we're all thinking like, okay, Oregon feels like they're back, had a mishap, now they're going to do their thing. What a special game by Oklahoma State, actually, as they're trying to rebuild an entire program right there in a whole new chapter, a whole new era.
53:38Pat McAfee:I enjoyed that for them, and that's just a part of what makes college football great. Now, on that note, you can't have one loss early in the season and still do everything you want to accomplish. New coordinators over there, offense and defense for Dan Lanning. Is he able to eyeball who's the right coordinators and hire them and continue that turnover that's going to happen at a top program? I guess we find out. There have certainly been misses at coordinator position hires and has set teams back. And then, like, when you realize it, shit, we've already put so much into this. How can we have guests?
54:09Pat McAfee:We have to adjust. And if they were to have that situation continue to broil, that would suck for all the guys that went back to Oregon this year to kind of do this thing together. And it ends up the way it does. Now, as you were talking, Ty Schmidt just kept saying, hey, what's going on? Yeah, Reese, I just wanted to say you did miss that Virginia Tech is officially on lookout mode because they might win the ACC because James Franklin is officially back on his bull spit. Hey, Coach. Michael Howes with the Baltimore Sun. Hey, Michael. Hey, Michael. What do you remember about working on the long side?
54:45Michael, how you doing?
54:51Can you hear me? Yeah, I'm saying how you doing? Good, how are you? Good, good. What do you remember about working alongside Coach Loxley in those early years at Maryland? How has your relationship evolved since then?
55:03Pat McAfee:Yeah, hey, why don't you say hello? So, Ty, you just wanted Reese to understand that James Franklin is in complete control down there in Blacksburg? Yeah, I think he was just kind of trying to find his footing a little bit. This is the James Franklin from Penn State that I know. And that's how, if you're in the ACC, you should be, oh boy, he's back. The bad man's back. And I don't know how many top five teams they have on their schedule. So look out for Virginia Tech. Press conferences will certainly get a lot of convos in college football right now. Reese, anything you thought maybe you were going to put on the fringe there that needs to be brought up or mentioned that isn't maybe James Franklin's press conference?
55:40First of all, James is going to be testy whenever they play Maryland because he was coaching waiting there one time. They didn't hire him. He stuck it to him with a late touchdown. His time expired in a 44-7 game a couple of years ago. He's always going to be a little edgy whenever his teams, wherever they are, play Maryland. I think the other thing, Pat, is you start looking at teams with high expectations and ones that don't deliver. That Oklahoma performance at Michigan was ungood. I mean, credit to Michigan. Credit to Michigan. Man, their offense looks a mess, a mess. for Mateer and the guys that they have coming back.
56:18So I think we find out a ton about Oklahoma, not this weekend, but the next when they play Georgia, and we'll find out everything about Oregon when they play USC in a couple of weeks. And credit to Michigan, by the way. I know they won the first game. They're undefeated, but that was a great answer after all of the controversy from a week ago against Western Michigan.
56:39Pat McAfee:Congrats to Michigan fans getting a chance to celebrate a big-time win over the SEC and over Oklahoma. And now the Western Michigan stuff is just in the deep, deep past. Whittingham's era has now officially started. That's kind of how we're all going to view it as we move forward. And this thing is just flashing. Because I think it's trying to be like what Texas was like on Saturday night. What a win. What a comeback, Reese. And we were sitting there at halftime talking, especially after the third down where Relique Brown doesn't get the first down. He's a yard short. And then fourth down comes, end around.
57:09Pat McAfee:And Ohio State takes advantage. Jeremiah Smith had like 112 yards in the first half and multiple times. It's like, this Ohio State team, they're getting the ball coming out of half. We thought that was dead in the water. We thought Sark, Texas, yeah, right, another egg was kind of laid. Instead, now Arch has three top 10 wins down there at DKR. Now Texas has maybe the best comeback we might see all year against the number one team in the country. And now it has us all believing, like, maybe Texas has it this year. Your thoughts after that game ends, what goes through your mind immediately And what a special, special environment to be a part of.
57:46Pat McAfee:So lucky to be there. It was fantastic. Heat, speaker in your ear, everything. Even so, it was fantastic inside that stadium Saturday night. And, you know, seeing Arch run around celebrating afterwards, it was like a billion pounds had been lifted off of his shoulder. And I'm really excited to see now if maybe we see complete and free Arch Manning. because there were a couple of times is watching the game. And, hey, look, man, you guys who played forgotten more ball on the last five seconds than I'll ever know. But it almost seemed like at times he wanted to see it open, and then he would try to overcompensate by just throwing it a thousand miles an hour, and it led to some inaccuracy.
58:31Does a win like that, that comeback kind of let him relax and really, truly play to his potential. So I think it was a great moment for Arch and a huge moment for Texas going forward.
58:44Pat McAfee:Yeah, and it felt like it was something that maybe that fan base needed because I don't want to repeat what some of the people in the stadium are saying at halftime, but boy, they were excited to see Sark maybe leave town. And then you have the second half that you have in the fourth quarter that you have, and all of a sudden it's like, yeah, this is what we've been waiting for. Now, Debut has a follow-up about Texas. Yeah, Reeves, I got to ask you every week. Last week, I believe you said Notre Dame, LSU, Texas. Are they the top team in the country now? And if not them, then who? I still have Notre Dame ranked number one.
59:15I put Texas number two because I wanted to honor the victory. But if you watch the entire game, and I realize it's a far greater opponent than anybody Notre Dame's faced so far. But kind of watching the whole game, it was really hard to get to the place where I think this is the best team in the country. They certainly have the best win and the best moment. But I think they have the potential to be right there. They've got other great opportunities. Trip to Tennessee coming up. Tennessee, who I think is really good, maybe even better than I anticipated. But I don't have them on top right now just because the entire game, they didn't always look like number one.
59:52Pat McAfee:Okay, so you have a differing opinion than our guy. One half of the hammer. That Cowboys put out his above-average poll. and guess what he has on top? Tone has Texas as the number one team in the country in his above average poll because there are average polls out there. People that don't really know, it's like a 30 ,000 foot view. Above average is where Tone's living. He's at like 10 ,000 feet, 15 ,000 feet. Now there's some real dive in deep folks that would be a elite poll. This is just an above average poll and I think we're all kind of happy with it. I think we're all kind of happy with the above-average poll of tone.
1:00:34Pat McAfee:Tony, you've got Texas, Miami, Ohio State. You don't have Notre Dame up there, which obviously Reese likes. Your thoughts on your above-average poll, which, by the way, you continue to look great with that.
1:00:43Darius Butler:Thank you. I appreciate that.
1:00:44Pat McAfee:You continue to look great. And then also, I know you have a follow-up for Reese.
1:00:47Darius Butler:Yeah, I do. Reese, I know there's different ways to do the poll and power rankings, stuff like that. In power rankings, I still have Notre Dame above Texas. But to your point, I couldn't discredit or not discredit, but not count the Texas win. I'm not saying you're not doing that or whatever, but having the best win in that comeback. And then I didn't want to discredit Ohio State for a one-point loss down in Austin when you basically controlled the entire game. So I didn't want to put Ohio State down. But Miami has looked incredibly, incredibly just unbelievable so far this season. Notre Dame would probably come in there.
1:01:19Darius Butler:Oh, Notre Dame, Georgia, somewhere around number four.
1:01:21Pat McAfee:Oh, so you're saying Notre Dame's probably bottom of your pole right there.
1:01:23Darius Butler:Yeah, right around the bottom of my pole. Okay. Where's Indiana? Has Indiana not done enough to sit on your poll? IU's right down there, too, especially because North Texas just blew out Mullen's boys in week two. North Texas is not a bad team, and IU handled them.
1:01:36Pat McAfee:I agree. That's Neil Brown down there. Obviously, backpacked Neil. So maybe Indiana's sliding up the above average poll.
1:01:44Darius Butler:And this is also like it's week two, okay? And it's kind of like who won the weekend situation. I thought Miami won the weekend week one. Texas won the weekend here in week two.
1:01:51Pat McAfee:Oh, so that's how we need to be viewing your poll.
1:01:53Darius Butler:Yeah, maybe not so much if it's a season-long poll.
1:01:55Pat McAfee:It's like a weekend warrior poll. Yeah, who won the weekend?
1:01:59Darius Butler:But a couple teams that did win this weekend, talk about the Holy War, BYU and Utah. They both looked very, very good this weekend. Utah just absolutely dismantled Arkansas. And then BYU kind of workman type 28-point win. Sorry, not 28-point win. 28 points they scored this weekend against Arizona and Noah Fafita. How do you feel about the Pac - or sorry, Jesus, the Big 12? Have a little respect, please.
1:02:23Pat McAfee:Big 12 might be the deepest they watched.
1:02:26Darius Butler:That's what I'm saying, especially after Texas Tech didn't open up the season great. From what I've seen so far, I think BYU looks like the best team in the Big 12. And maybe Utah. Hold the phone. Maybe Utah's going to be there.
1:02:38Pat McAfee:Hold the phone. Have you seen West Virginia, buddy? Have you seen Hawkins running wild in Morgantown? Have you seen? Okay, go back to what you're saying. I'm sorry. I just wanted to. No, hey, we're going to find out about them next two weeks. How about this opportunity that they have? I think that Michael Hawkins and Cam Cook, they're both in the top 15, top 20 in the country in rushing, which is just what you would have expected from Rich Rod's offense. You've got Virginia, then Oklahoma State. I mean, this could change very quickly. I don't think there's a lot of room from the top of the Big 12 to the lower part of the Big 12.
1:03:15There are a lot of good teams in there. Not sure who's great yet, but I think there are a lot of good teams in there. Utah has certainly looked terrific so far. Even though Arizona lost BYU, I think Arizona's a good team as well.
1:03:27Pat McAfee:Big 12 is obviously going to be a battle. Yeah, Iowa State's tough. The Big 10 is kind of doing their thing right now. You guys snuck away with that one, didn't you? Hey, that's Cyhawk, baby. Survive in advance. You were scared to death. Duh. Oh, my God. You were scared to death. I mean, shame on the sportsbooks for putting a 14-point spread on that game. That was just absolutely ridiculous. But, yeah, I'll tell you what. But Iowa State impressed me. They did. They lost, but they impressed me. Yeah. I mean, we were watching that from the bus. We were so pumped. We wish we had a camera on you for that because all of the things you have said about this particular Iowa State team have been worse than anything you've said in the past about how just – well, their whole program collapsed.
1:04:13Pat McAfee:The only guy that cared about them left. And then he took everybody good out of there. And it's like Iowa State beats Iowa in the first year of the Seahawks in his first year of the new era, that would have been awesome for you. And for us, sorry, not for you. It would have been awesome for us to ride alongside of you. But also, we would have called Tyrese, and we would have called all the Iowa State legends, obviously. They got a guy. Jimmy Rogers is a good coach. The Big Ten is a problem. The SEC obviously has its depth. College football is electrifying, and we are incredibly thankful and lucky for you, Reese.
1:04:45Pat McAfee:You're the best. Have a good one, brother. Likewise. You guys, too. Always fun. Thanks for having me. That's Reece Davis. Reece. Reece. All right, we're back on the other side. We've got a great second hour. Mike LaFleur of the Cardinals. Brian Bollinger. And more headlines. See you then. Goodbye.

1:06:09Pat McAfee:Football! is the best. Week one of the NFL wrapped up. Week two of the college football had an incredible weekend and now all eyes are ahead to Thursday night as we have Buffalo Beals hosting for the first time in Highmark Stadium. A member of the Pat McVie Show will be up there on Thursday at noon for our particular program. Where and how and who is certainly up for conversation as that is an Amazon game, which we are obviously very respectful and appreciative of, but we certainly have been asked to be a part of the opening of Highmark and cannot wait to have a presence there, at least for the day of the program.
1:06:47Pat McAfee:Who will be headed up there? How will it be broadcast, and where will you be? That's certainly TBD. That is going to be an exciting little next couple days as we have to figure that out. D-butt, maybe you? I hate the Bills. Whoa! Oh! I'm doing two jobs around. Okay, that's nine-year NFL for that, Darius J. Butler. Let's head over to the toxic table at Boston Carter and at Ty Schmidt. Con man! I wouldn't say no. I think it's a possibility. I will be wearing Patriots stuff top to bottom, as I would have to, but still. I mean, Highmarked A and brand new. Those look pretty cool. Looks very cool, and obviously we're asked to be there, so we would like to uphold that.
1:07:32Pat McAfee:Obviously, Friday, going to be down there in oxford monday gonna be in los angeles thursday we'll have some presents up in buffalo which we are honored and thankful to be a part of can't wait to showcase all of ball all season i said that last night i can't wait to celebrate football all year i am getting an incredibly lucky opportunity here saturday the biggest college game monday night the biggest nfl game it's like we need to enjoy the hell out of this but we also need to realize that what we've seen thus far doesn't mean a damn thing long term. Now, college and NFL, obviously Indiana went completely undefeated last year, and the Seattle Seahawks, I guess they lose their first game.
1:08:09Pat McAfee:But other than that, early in the season, we saw quickly that they were a good team. So over these next first couple weeks, you certainly need to see something that gives you the hope that they could go on to win it all. But if your team looked like shite week one or week two, that does not mean that's forever. I'm looking at you, Oregon. Oregon's team looked like absolute shite week one and week two. Skid by Boise State. Losed Oklahoma State. They could still win out and accomplish everything that they want to accomplish over there in Oregon. That is just very real. And in the NFL, it's the same damn thing.
1:08:43Pat McAfee:The odds on Super Bowl favorites look the worst out of every. They're the only team that didn't score in double digits. They have the MVP of quarterback, and they were one of the shortest odds to ever win a Super Bowl in the Los Angeles Rams. Do we not think they're going to figure it out the rest of the way? We hope. We think. But there's a chance that all of these teams are absolute shite. That we think. One half of the hammer, done. Cowboys AP tone. And then joining us live from an attic in Ohio is a man who's a college football national champion, Super Bowl champion, Ryder Cup winner, ladies and gentlemen, A.J.
1:09:16Pat McAfee:Hawk. Yeah, how cool. Hawker, how you doing over here? We turn the lights off as we are getting excited on the back screen for, you know, the next week of NFL and the next week of college football. Last night, incredible game in Kansas City for the Chiefs. Terrible game in Kansas City for the Denver Broncos. So many questions coming out of Denver. So much excitement coming out of Kansas City. Where do you fall after watching four quarters of football on Monday night? I think what I take away from it, obviously, this was unbelievable. but watching him run all over the place was very, very fun, especially how physically it is, how he finishes his runs are amazing.
1:09:51But what about that Chiefs defense? I know, like, I don't want to be the guy, oh, I play defense, so I got to talk about defense all the time. But I was very, very impressed by this Chiefs D, and I'm sitting there thinking, like, yeah, they used their top four picks this year to take defensive guys, and I think three of them, you know, had somewhat of an impact in this game. So, yeah, it looks like the plans are going well in Kansas City, and these guys really executed night one.
1:10:13Pat McAfee:Yeah, it was fun to be in there. Arrowhead was an electrifying environment. You talk about Kenneth Walker being an absolute beast. There's another running back that said hello to the NFL scene. Not only week one, but I believe in the whole fame game. Is that where we saw him first? The game after that, I believe. Okay, so week one of preseason, we watched this man out of Notre Dame run like it's the Super Bowl, and we all immediately go, oh, no. But now we're watching him, and his team, nowhere near as shite as everybody was expecting. No. Everybody thought this team was going to what? What did the guy who covers the Arizona Cardinals say?
1:10:49He said they'd be lucky to steal one or two in the first 11 weeks of the season.
1:10:54Pat McAfee:Well, they're 1-0. Beating the Chargers, who was everybody's darling coming into the year, the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, ladies and gentlemen, Mike LaFleur. Yeah! What's up, guys? Hey, I heard, I saw you in my monitor here watching us overreact to week one. the way we were hey these teams absolute shite maybe forever these teams might be the best of all time how are you managing obviously the incredible start for your team first game as a nfl head coach trying to continue to build on that success where do you sit right now after your first game having some success versus maybe a week ago looking ahead to what it could all be like coach yeah you know it's uh it's the next week you know and like we've been preaching since we got back in July.
1:11:43I mean, this is a week-to-week league. And, you know, I've talked to them about being where your feet are, and I thought they did that throughout training camp, throughout the preseason, when we got back out of Glendale, back to Tempe for the rest of training camp, and then, you know, just focused on the first week. And, you know, so we put Sunday's game to bed and, you know, starting to get ready for Seattle, obviously.
1:12:04Pat McAfee:Well, congrats on managing success this early in your tenure, especially with what all the expectations were. One of the off-season stories was Jacoby Brissett and the Arizona Cardinals have a little bit of a contract dispute. That ends up getting done. Carson Beck had some success. You obviously have a new offense coming in there. Can you tell us about your and Jacoby's relationship and the offense that he is operating for you? And he looks smooth out there. Jacoby, I wanted him to be the MVP when he was the starting quarterback for the Colts. Then he got injured. He obviously has a wealth of knowledge, but what have you seen from him and how quickly have you two gotten on the same page?
1:12:37Yeah, you know, well, I'll first talk about what I didn't know about him in terms of the person, I always had a lot of respect for him as a player. Never obviously coached with him. But just like you guys, I mean, you feel like you've played him almost every year for what seems like a dozen years. And every time you go, you just know you're going to get good quality quarterback play. And so having the ability to obviously get to know him once training camp started and start to build that relationship, I knew he was a great guy. So I knew there was going to be no issues there. And then I also know there's going to be no issues in terms of learning our system.
1:13:12The hardest part about playing quarterback is a young guy coming in and learning the speed of the game and just how to play quarterback in the NFL. Well, he's done that. And so all it was really from our perspective was just getting on the same page of what he likes, what our verbiage is, what our language is, how we work our cadences, what our operation means to us. But when the ball was snapped, I mean, it was going to be a lot of the similar concepts that he's ran. So it's been awesome. You know, the way he approached it, I thought he was excellent on game day just with his demeanor, taking it one play at a time.
1:13:42His calmness helps me because I'm an absolute psychopath on game day. So it was great.
1:13:48Pat McAfee:Although tightly wound. I didn't know that was the case. So what does that mean? How do you describe yourself? Because obviously that can go different ways. There's people that get, like, angry and irritated easily. There's people that are, like, just super locked in and intense. How do you self-eval how your game day operations are? And is this how you're trying to be? Are you like, yeah, this is who I am. You just need to deal with it. No, you know, I try not to be that. I try to just obviously be in the moment. I'd say that's probably strong, the psychopath. But, no, it was more of a compliment for him because of just, again, how even keel he is.
1:14:24Not to be confused with, you know, he doesn't got that fire, if you will, because he has that. So it was a good first step for him in this offense and this team. But again, resetting right back to work.
1:14:38Pat McAfee:Jacoby was calling players meetings whenever Andrew Luck was the quarterback here in Indianapolis. That's when I learned, like, oh, this guy is a guy. And then you learn about what he's Bill Parcells was like his mentor or whatever through it all. Obviously, New England goes through it. It's like, what a perfect situation for a brand new head coach. Another great thing for an offense is having a 99 tight end. AJ has a question for you. Yeah, Coach, he's talking about Trey McBride, obviously. he comes out and has a big week one for you guys. Can you talk a little bit about, I guess, what makes him special?
1:15:08What makes this guy able to separate? And he seems to be great at the point of attack, going at it and getting the ball, especially you talk about those 50-50 balls. But just such a good job using his body, I think, to box defenders out. But what does Trey McBride mean to this team and this offense? Yeah, I mean, how long you got? There's no weakness to this guy. He's mentally tough. He's physically tough. He's savvy. he's got incredible hands. I've been very fortunate, like we all have, to be around guys that have just great ball skills. He's right up there, if not the best I've ever been around.
1:15:42Like I said, he's got the savviness to him. Like he just has, it's kind of like I try to equate it to, you know, like Luka, you know, like where he plays at his pace. And he's got that savviness to separate and then obviously the finishing skills to make the play. He's got the yak. And he's a great dude. He's a great leader. He works his butt off. And I think he's only improving.
1:16:06Pat McAfee:I love the way he just operates. Like he has a big play. We're going to see it. We're going to know that he is pumped about said play. I like bringing that to a fan base. I like bringing that to a team. Can you tell me about the response from the Cardinals fans? Because I know you know this. You're the head coach there. You're normally not going to get a head coaching job at a place that is set up good. You know, like they're not looking for a new head coach. if everything is hunk-a-dory, you know? And you and I got a chance to talk at the World Cup game. Shout soccer. That was a good time. Shout soccer.
1:16:36Good times, man.
1:16:37Pat McAfee:It was a good time. It was nice. A lot less stressful back then than it is now. I'm having a great time, by the way. So I think you were talking about yourself and that particular thing, and we appreciate you joining us in the middle of trying to build a team. But whenever it's like, A, the pressure of becoming a head coach, and then at the Arizona Cardinals with what the NFC West already is, I was bringing up, you're like, no, I like where we're at. and I like what we're doing. Brand new practice facility coming, right? I mean, we got young stars seemingly playing well. Jacoby is on a very team-friendly quarterback contract, even though, you know, the whole conversation was out there.
1:17:11Pat McAfee:Can you tell me about how you feel and how you think fans feel going into the season? Zero expectations, I think, from anybody. That beat reporter actually said that to us. I hope we're not breaking news to you. He was like, maybe steal one or two games in the first 11. And it's like, whoa. Okay, that is some – is anybody going to go to these games? Are you going to be able to do it? And then you win a game here. Can you just tell me about how it feels over there right now as an Arizona Cardinal? Maybe outside view versus how it is actually for you in there right now? I mean, you know this. I don't really know what the view is outside because, again, after that game, you get on the plane.
1:17:47Obviously, just personally for myself, trying to answer all the texts that you got from family, friends, from everywhere you've ever been. And then you get home and you spend some time with your family, talk to your brother, you know. and then you wake up and you've got to get right back to work. Like, you don't have time to think about what's going on outside this building. You know, not that we don't hear the noise and all those kind of things, but, like, you don't have time to think about it. But going back just kind of in terms of just the Arizona Cardinals in general, like, I've always loved this place.
1:18:17For whatever reason, I loved playing here. I was obviously in the division for seven years before, four with the Niners, three with the Rams. Had the playoff game in here in 24 when the fires happened. Honestly, the coolest game I've ever been a part of was that playoff game versus Minnesota on that Monday night when we got moved out of there. I love this city. I've loved living here. They've been awesome to my family and myself, but more importantly, my family. I love our ownership. I love how committed everybody is. And then most importantly, I love these players. I know what happened last year, but I also know what happened in 24 when they were playing really good football and they were right on the cusp of kind of breaking into the playoffs, and there was a lot of those same faces, particularly on defense.
1:19:03So I like where we're at, but, again, all our focus is is 1-0 each week.
1:19:08Pat McAfee:What a promo right there. Hey, that was a good speech, bro. I'm happy you're a head coach in the NFL. That was a good speech. I think the people of the Arizona Cardinals fans. That wasn't a speech. Well, exactly. That's what I'm saying. It's not a speech to you. That's just your natural thoughts. But that was a – the message you just delivered to Cardinals fans right there is I think scratching every single itch that you could potentially have as a football fan. I'm happy that you're their guy because we love that city as well. Yeah. I mean, we are massive fans of that city. Now, you've done something for the first time since Bill Cowher did it in 1992.
1:19:41Pat McAfee:And I think this goes to even more of the national narrative versus, you know, your narrative inside the building. Biggest upset for a debut in coaching history since Bill Cowher in 1992. So it's like I appreciate you not hearing the noise outside. Nobody believed in you. You can actually use that speech to the boys as you go ahead. And we've all become fans of your team after watching just one game. Now you and how you operate, you talked about your demeanor. D-Bott has a question for you. Yeah, Coach, obviously you had the preseason, but was there any surprises or anything you didn't expect your regular season head coaching debut?
1:20:14I know you've got to have the challenge flag. It's different communications now, obviously different media responsibilities, but was there anything that, I guess, caught you off guard during game day? And then also, what's the biggest challenge going from week one to week two? Obviously, we overreact from everything. What's the biggest challenge in that building? Yeah, I mean, honestly, when you asked me that first question, like you got the preseason. We had the extra game, obviously, because the Hall of Fame game. So I mean, something's going to come up at some point. But as of right now, or as of this last Sunday, nothing really kind of caught us off guard.
1:20:47Again, you just try to remind yourself you're not in this thing alone. Like you got a team behind you. You got your coordinators. You got the assistant coaches. You got your game management people. And you're prepping with these people all week. So you don't want to be caught off guard. And again, at some point, something's going to happen. And we'll have to make that adjustment. So again, that's kind of where we're at. And then you think about week one to week two. You got a lot of time. I've seen it so many different ways. Some people kind of have a mock game week the week before, right, especially with not only three preseason games.
1:21:20you can truly do kind of that Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. You have to do it on different days because the league rules and all that kind of stuff because you've got to give them the time off Friday, Saturday, Sunday. But we didn't do that. We went good on good still. We introduced some Chargers stuff without them really knowing. We were just doing it against our defense, you know, so it wasn't like totally brand new the next week. But now you get into it, like all of us, all 32 teams, and we don't have, you know, all this time. It's a week. I know Seattle had a little extra time because obviously they played on Wednesday, being the Super Bowl champs.
1:21:51But for the most part, everyone's just in it, and they're in their routine, and here we go.
1:21:56Pat McAfee:You sound like such an experienced coach. Obviously, having a chance to be in a lot of different buildings gives you an opportunity to learn how it should go. You sound like a 50-year-old man. Now, you've got the face of a 12-year-old and the hair. I can't believe you're wearing a hat right now. We are so bummed. I told Mark Dalton, our media guy, I said, I'll go on, but I'm wearing my hat. It's Tuesday. This is a game plan day. I don't do the hair on Tuesday. I respect that I understand you gotta do what you gotta do I watched a documentary on Pink You know Pink's hair is like legendary Someday she doesn't want to do it You know so she's got a hat on That was part of the documentary because her hair I like that that's kind of where you're at right now It's like hey listen I ain't got time to be on camera This shit's everywhere Whatever it's not perfect So I'm gonna put a hat on And I'm in grind mode And on that note we appreciate you taking time We do have some more questions though especially because it felt like it could have been an emotional Sunday for a couple people in the crowd.
1:22:50Pat McAfee:Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, Coach, how special was it having your parents there, being able to kind of witness your first win? And I am a Packers fan, so I'm just curious. You said you talked to your brother after the game. Did you get the opportunity to maybe talk a little shit to him and be like, hey, I have a higher career winning percentage than you do right now. Sorry about that. And also, how much do you guys lean on each other during the year and has that changed now that you are both head coaches and you're no longer a coordinator? Yeah, that was a triple question right now. Hit them all. Had to get it in.
1:23:23Pat McAfee:Hit them all. And he's really mad at your brother right now, too, that guy that just asked that question. It was great. You know, obviously I have my folks there, and then after the game they flew back with my wife and kids, so they'll be here for the Seattle game, and then they'll head back to Green Bay. You know, they live like a block away from Lambeau. They live in Titletown there, so they obviously make those games. quite often but man wherever I've been there you know they they love the places we've been because we've been kind of obviously California with the Niners and Rams and then you got the Jets which is kind of a pretty cool fun city to visit if you like New York City so home is Green Bay but the vacation is wherever I'm at so Phoenix Arcadia Scottsdale it's been pretty cool for them but no it was it was a good moment they left right away so I actually didn't even see him after the game Lauren was able to book a quick flight after to try to beat us home and we almost got home at the same time so I was able to spend time with the kids and then yeah I talked to talk to Matt right after obviously you know I actually did see the score in the in the early in the fourth quarter so you think things are going well then and I went through media and then saw the final and that was that was that so you know there was no no crap talking there I mean it's you know It sucks.
1:24:39Like I said in my presser, usually when hopefully you both win, and then everyone's in a good place for at least eight minutes, and then you move on to the next week. But when you lose, that's more what you're talking about. So I was asking more questions about what went down and all that. But we talk all the time. We talked a few times yesterday, whether it's just floating ideas. We each watch each other's tape because there are similarities, just like I pop on the Rams, just like I pop on the Niners, just to glance it to see if there's anything that they're doing that would fit within our players and our scheme.
1:25:11Pat McAfee:Yeah, your natural answers are speeches, and you just said, yeah, when we win, we'll have a good eight minutes or so, and then we know that our asses can get fired next week if we don't do the right job. Is that exactly how you feel, yeah? Yeah, I mean, it is week to week. I mean, we all know what we signed up for, so, I mean, that's, like, it is what it is. It's all noise. Sean McVay did a 60-minute interview. I saw one clip. Yeah. And they were like, well, how do you deal with the blah, blah, blah? And he goes, I'm going to be honest. We set this up today. We didn't have a good practice. I'm in a terrible spot.
1:25:43Pat McAfee:Piss right now. I don't like to even hear right now. It's like you guys have to be psychos. Like we have tried to explain that on this particular program about how like the people at the top of sports, all of them, are just psychos. You have to be obsessive. You have to have that mindset. That's what separates you from everybody else. Arizona seemingly got a guy out here. Man, I am excited to watch your career. And I appreciate the fact that in the middle of your game, you look up. Okay, Green Bay's doing good. It's late. There's no way, Matt. There's no way. That's good. Go through the press.
1:26:13Pat McAfee:Big time win. First coach. Yeah, hey, we're having fun. Get out there. You lost. Holy shit. That had to be devastating. Just immediately feel for your brother and what he's going through. Ty's going through the same thing, though. So just know that he's out there and Cardinals fans are going to be doing the same thing. Connor has last question for you here, Coach. Yeah, Coach. It was also really cool. One of the moments of the entire weekend, week one as a whole, was your team coming over to you as the clock was hitting zero and just celebrating. I think it was Trey McBride. I think Wingard as well was over there just kind of embracing you and just enjoying the fact that, holy shit, you guys won your first game of the season and of your career.
1:26:50How cool was that for you to kind of feel that from your team? And do you feel as though your culture is settling in, already set in? and how did you kind of get that going so quickly? Because it truly was astounding. I mean, the stack got pulled up. It's the biggest win for a debut since 1992. How does that feel, especially being able to celebrate that with your team? Yeah, I mean, I love these guys. You know, and obviously some you've only known for seven, eight weeks, whatever it's been, or I shouldn't say that, going into training camp with them, but getting to know them, obviously, when you got it in February, but really getting to know their football character once you put the pads on, how we're going to work in training camp.
1:27:31We got the right people, and that's a credit to Monty. He's brought in a lot of great people here. Unfortunately, a lot of those guys got hurt last year. I mean, there was a ton of injuries. That's not an excuse. I wasn't even in the building. That was the reality. I was in L.A., and that's what we saw too. Like every game that you watched of Arizona, it felt like there was five or six new guys out there every week. And that's hard. You guys know what it's like to not have continuity. And you'd rather just play with just 11 guys that you might not know their names, but at least if they played four weeks together, now they're communicating the right way.
1:28:08They're playing with the right play style. They kind of feel off each other. But again, the credit goes to Monty in terms of bringing in those right guys. And we're just, again, still just looking to build and get right back at it. I'm excited to see them tomorrow. and we'll get the first installment of this Seattle game plan in.
1:28:24Pat McAfee:I just said that was the last question. I lied. Jeremy, I love you. Obviously drafted a running back very high. What have you seen from him? Because I was scared, not that my opinion matters, I was scared to death with how he was running that first preseason game. I was scared to death. This guy's never going to make it. I mean, if this is how he's running a preseason, he's got no chance. It's like, well, what was he running like in a preseason? Well, it was like every single play was his last play. That's a great trait, not a bad trait at all. Can you tell me a little bit about Jeremiah and how you see his kind of career going and how we should judge him off of this season?
1:28:59Pat McAfee:Like a fair way to kind of judge his season this year. Yeah, you know, that's a hard one for me, Pat. Like I'm not going to put any expectations on him. I know that I think he's going to be a really good football player. I think he's even a better person. I think that preseason game was so beneficial for him to learn some of the things that you're talking about in real time. Like my opinion, I know a lot of people disagree with me. I don't think you can put these guys in bubble wrap through the preseason, particularly the young guys. I know some people play vets a little bit more than others. We didn't.
1:29:28That is what it is. But for a runner, you can't simulate that in OTAs and training camp. You just can't. They have to go out there and play a little bit. And I thought it was very unfortunate that on the last snap, obviously, he went down. But I thought he learned as he went. And him and I had some really good talks about that half of football that he had, the 11 carries, the three catches and I know he was in a really good spot and he felt the same way and also it was good to obviously get him back at his feet wet he'll just continue to improve because his conditioning will continue to improve when you're not playing football for a few weeks I mean you guys know that can happen right you like you can't simulate it you got to be out there you can't you can't just be on the bike or the treadmill thinking you're gonna get in football shape so be able to get him back for the week leading up to it I thought he was right at that perfect number kind of of reps and we'll see
1:30:17Pat McAfee:where week two goes he's awesome to watch also the human spectacular we got a chance to learn about him obviously through notre dame and his whole story it's like i you say he's learning as he goes yeah he's like uh i mean he's a notre dame guy guy's got a big brain i expect you don't want to put expectations on him i will offensive rookie of the year all right you're the man good luck making that happen i just put that into the world sorry for the added pressure thank you for taking time out of your life after your first win you're the man good luck out there ladies and Gentleman, head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, Michael LaFleur.
1:30:47Pat McAfee:You too. Yay, coach. Dude, I would guarantee the last thing on earth he wanted to do was an interview. Probably. But Arizona Cardinals in a big like, hey, we're new. We're a new organization out here. And I think he is a great coach. AJ, every answer, I said it was a speech. But when coaches talk, it's like you hear their brain just naturally comes with the coach answer. Everybody's like, this is coach speak. This is cliche. It's like, no, that's how these dudes' brains just operate. Like, their answers are – you asked Kurt Cignetti a question. There – any – talk about music. Well, if you go back to what the – he'll go right into coach speak is what it is because that's who they are.
1:31:31Pat McAfee:He sounded like that with every answer there, AJ. I mean, that was coach through and through. Young guy, innovative offense. I think he does want a tough team as well. It's like out in Phoenix, if he's able to create a contender, a conversation piece, a relevant team in that NFC West, I think they will be very, very grateful. And he's got a young group of dogs over there, AJ, and they're doing it in all three phases, obviously. Yeah, and it's crazy that we're only through week one of the season, but just how we view the Cardinals now from where we viewed them, say, three weeks ago, it just feels so much different.
1:32:03And if they can continue to do this, and they play the Seahawks, obviously a huge test next game, but I think he did a good job of explaining and showing what it's like, how stressful it might be, and how every single minute of your life is consumed by thinking of, hey, what do I need to do to make my team, give them the best they possibly can, the best chance to win every single Sunday. Because it's wild, man. These guys, the hours they put in, I guess when you hear him talk about his parents and everybody, if we both win, cool, we've got eight minutes of happiness. We've got eight minutes of, oh, this is great.
1:32:35And then, boom, we're on to the next one. But that's truly kind of how it has to be.
1:32:39Pat McAfee:Yeah, I mean, Nick Saban told us what. He won national championship, gets the photo. Took 10 minutes. This is awesome. Thank you. Yeah, guys, you did it. All right. I got to call some recruits. Yeah, we're recruiting. Did you see what just happened up there with me holding that trophy? That's what I thought. You see the boys out there? That's what we can do with you. Maybe bang, boom, boom, boom, right to the next one. Never satisfy. What is that, complacency? There's a complacency scale or something like that. And then obviously that's where the rat poison comes from. What's rat poison? But just kind of reaping from what you've sown.
1:33:13Pat McAfee:Just kind of having a good time. Just kind of using the benefits of being on top of the world. Rat poison. So he even created something that was like, no. People complimenting you, feeling good about yourself. Rat poison. He even created something that eliminates that entirely after a win for everybody else. Just so everybody else understands how I feel. Everything that's being said to us right now is making us worse. So we need to put an end to this immediately. Michael Floor, your first game, living your dream as a head coach. Way to go. You won. Yeah, we got about eight minutes of this shit.
1:33:45Pat McAfee:And then we got Seattle Seahawks defending Super Bowl champions coming to town. They're pretty good from my understanding. And that's real. You do have to kind of live week to week. But I think they got the right guy out there. That was a great conversation. I didn't know what to expect out of that. Yeah. Genuinely. And like you said, week to week. And obviously we're going to overreact from week one because that's all we have. And him even talking about, you know, just how much time you have to lead up and ramp and have your mindset right for that first game. And then once you kind of hit, that was the biggest thing for me as a rookie coming in, like just how fast the game weeks were.
1:34:16Like once you got back into that building, really Wednesday as another team, the complete pages were flipped. As a coach, you have to set the stage, you have to set clear expectations for what this week is, what this team is, what these challenges are, what our game plan is. And now he's got to do that. And you got to have that team on board. The quarterback's got to be on board. So I'm excited for him. I will say after that interview, I feel much better about him, even after watching him play on Sunday going forward, because we kind of get a glimpse of who he is behind the scenes. But I'm excited about the Arizona Cardinals future.
1:34:47Pat McAfee:Yeah, I like another LaFleur in there as a head coach, Ty. Well, I was going to say, you can tell he spent a lot of time around Sean McVay. Like, he kind of just feels very similar. And, like, he had the, you know, where he went off with Salah and was OC, and that obviously didn't go great in New York. But going back and being with Sean McVay, and even if he wasn't calling plays, you can tell that he has absorbed a lot of that. Arizona Cardinals, we would have thought, would be in our next segment here quick. AJ, I don't know if you've heard or not, but we are going to debut a new segment. We don't know how many weeks this will be a relevant thing because we don't really know.
1:35:23Pat McAfee:But as we sit here on this Football is the Greatest Tuesday, September 15, 2026, We thought it would be nice if we did just point out some things that are happening around the league. We can't always be positive. So we actually created a new division. Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the AFC-NFC shite division. Okay. This is four teams that we feel are absolute shite. They can come from either conference, okay, but obviously it is a division, so it is four teams. How we see it right now, and obviously relegation, promotion, you can get in and out of this division. Fluid. But this division certainly exists.
1:36:00Pat McAfee:Number one team, congratulations in the lead of the shite division, Cleveland Browns. Yeah. Yeah, Cleveland Browns. The division is actually named after that. Congratulations to Cleveland Browns finding themselves on the shite division. Although this is the first year of this expansion to the shite division, they know what it's like to be here. Now, they are looking to get promoted out of here, not looking for relegation. Todd Munkin kind of understands the deal. How many days is he? 600 and some days since Deshaun Watson's last start. Yes. Obviously, it did not go swimmingly down there in Jacksonville, but the Jaguars might be really good.
1:36:33Pat McAfee:So the Cleveland Browns could find themselves literally in the outhouse, the shite division, and then maybe in the penthouse, the top of the AFC North over the next few weeks. Or they could find themselves at the top of the division, the shite division, for the rest of the season. Who knows? They're not the only ones, though. Obviously need three more spots filled in the shite division. The second team, congratulations to Tennessee Titans.
1:37:07Pat McAfee:AJ, you didn't want to overreact, you said, but when you were watching the Titans, you said, okay, this team, I'm canceling them. His exact words. I did not mean I was canceling them. I was disappointed. I thought they were going to have a better show in week one. Okay, yeah, I mean, we clarify things all the time whenever you realize what you were doing, which was potentially overreacting. But nonetheless, Salah back in the shite division. And what will he and Dayball do? We shall see. Could have been a tough first week. Also, Jets could be really good. Could be, yeah. I mean, Jets could be really, really good.
1:37:38Pat McAfee:They're not the only two. Obviously, that's just half the division. Ladies and gentlemen, the third team being welcomed into the AFC-NFC shite division. I don't like it. Not one bit. Uh-oh. Please. What? What? No. Oh! Who could have saw this coming? Oh, the Ravens. They're so good. I didn't like this. There was a vote, league-wide vote, that found the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC-NFC shite division. Wow. And I think it's because everybody that had a vote watched the game on Sunday and were in the building and watched Lamar Jackson have a career day, Derrick Henry have a career day, and Zay Flowers have a career day while only playing a half of football.
1:38:21Pat McAfee:I don't like that they ended up in the shite division, But once again, this is not a permanent division. No. There is always relegation and promotion. And I don't think the Colts are going to stay here. I think it was just one bad week. But historic days for three different people on the other side certainly weren't a shite division nominee. And I guess the boys and I, even though I didn't vote yes, have put the Colts into the shite division.
1:38:45Darius Butler:Fun fact for the Colts, they haven't won a football game on U.S. soil since Halloween last season. So just wanted to throw that out there so everybody knew that. Against the Falcons, half the AFC South. What is going on? Oh, hold on. There's one. Wait.
1:39:03Pat McAfee:There's another team, though. It's all AFC teams. No, no, no, no. There's another team. This team's actually a Super Bowl favorite. What? No. Los Angeles Rams. What? They're the only team not to score 10 points. They didn't score 10 points. That is the MVP. Only team not to do it. If they score a couple more points, we actually have a record-breaking week one. Instead, the team that we love with the offensive genius, Sean McVay at the helm, and the MVP at quarterback with weapons galore, Don Under wanting to put on an international show, they're the only ones that didn't in the entire NFL somehow, some way.
1:39:36Pat McAfee:So, yeah, I don't like it because I do love when the stars are at. Bring them out, bring them out, bring them out. I like that that's happening. But now we've got Miles Garrett on IR. Aaron Donald potentially returning on Monday night would be a gigantic boost, I think for the entire team, obviously. But yeah, I didn't like it. But when their name was mentioned, there was a hearty conversation. And we found ourselves with the Super Bowl favorites in the AFC-NFC shite division. So there it is, folks. AJ, your thoughts on the AFC-NFC shite division? It sits right now after week one of the NFL season?
1:40:13So I cannot say that I disagree with any of these picks. I think this is very representative of where the league is at right now through week one. but is this going to be a weekly segment? We have four teams every single week. I think there's a chance.
1:40:24Darius Butler:We'll see. It could be like my poll where it's like the shite division from that weekend. Because obviously if you do it every week just based off how the team is, the Browns will be there every single week. But they might get a win. We don't know that. That's why the shite division is unpredictable. They might get a win one weekend. So that week they won't be in the shite division. One week we could do the bright division and have it be the top four instead of the light division. division, yeah. Kind of honor both sides of the coin. Yeah, outhouse, penthouse, shite house, bright house. That's sick.
1:40:55I mean, there's something to think about there for sure. I only got one team on here. I don't feel too terrible about that. What do you mean? The chances are with me, I'm 400 % more likely to have a team on here than you guys, so I'm glad it's only once. But I am concerned, though. What if Aaron Donald just sees this and says, you know what? Fuck it. I'm not coming back.
1:41:10Pat McAfee:He might. No, what do you mean? I'm not. I'm done. I'm retiring again. My team's on the shite division. I'm out. No, I don't want that. We all want to see Aaron Donald play football again. He was happy retired. He was. Wasn't he having a good time? But you know, you see him putting that work back in. Didn't have to travel to Australia. I think that's a big news.
1:41:28Darius Butler:Him and the Rams both boycotted international games, which I respect for him.
1:41:31Pat McAfee:Yeah, that was a bad performance. Landed him in the shite division. Listen, you can work your way. If I know Aaron Donald, he wants to put his hard hat on, and he wants to go to work to get the Rams out of the shite. I don't know. He's got all the double teams. All the triple teams now. No miles out there. All right. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a 10-year NFL vet. Can't wait to get his take on the AFC-NFC shite division on whether or not he agrees, disagrees. And also, is Aaron Donald going to be the one that potentially lifts the L.A. Rams back to being the L.A. Rams? Or was it just a terribly planned trip to Australia and they played like shite?
1:42:07Pat McAfee:Could be. Ladies and gentlemen, the man from Baldy's Breakdance, Duke alum, O-line mastermind, Brian Baldy. You know, I was just watching a segment on the shite division, Pat, and it reminded me of being back in college. I was studying genetics. You know, when you study genetics, you study fruit flies. The lifespan of a fruit fly is seven days. Like, the NFL players are fruit flies. We live in seven-day life cycles here. You can get out of that shite division. Cleveland can go to Tampa and ruin their home opener right there. They'll have Warren Sapp on the sideline in Tampa. You can ruin that thing.
1:42:46You can come back as a fruit fly. Come back every seven days, you just kind of relive yourself.
1:42:51Pat McAfee:Yeah, but some fruit flies are just shite every time. And it feels like the bronze, they've been in the shite division long before the shite division even existed. I mean, they went to Jacksonville. Honestly, Trevor Lawrence looked like the MVP of the league in that game. There's nothing he couldn't do. Like, you watch the left guard, Emmanuel Pregnant, just own Mason Graham and just give him one clean pocket after another. Like, I mean, that's a great catch by Parker Washington, but, I mean, it was 24-0 before you even got your refreshments. It got to your seat. It was 24-0. It was so fast. Yeah, there's some teams that we don't know if they played the greatest team in football.
1:43:28Pat McAfee:For instance, the Colts could have played the 1972 Dolphins in this Baltimore Ravens team. Lamar Jackson, in command and control, has a career day. Derrick Henry, obviously still Derrick Henry, has a career day, runs himself up the record books. Zay Flowers has 150 yards, is wide open the entire time, and he doesn't even play the entire game. There's a chance that the Ravens are the greatest team of all time. What did you see from Declan Doyle's Baltimore Ravens team that made them so successful? And can we expect this all year? Because if that's the case, first of all, electrifying show. I mean, we were live in the building.
1:44:01Pat McAfee:It's electrifying, but they could win it all. Could they not? Yeah, I mean, look, that offense from the first play, bootleg to Zay Flowers, got him in main coverage out there. like he had his way, all that kind of space. You know, I call him his A-Hey kid, you know, like after Willie Mays. Like he could just pick him up and put him down with the best of him. And you can't tackle the guy in the open field. But Declan Doyle had a great day. They really saw the issue of the interior of this offensive line. They started this kid, Javon Gwynn, at center. Vivega Yawani at right guard just owned DeForest Buckner inside.
1:44:35They won the interior of that offensive line so that, you know, The King could run wild. Lamar had time. They couldn't cover Zay Flowers. They got great contributions from a lot of guys that nobody even knew who their names or numbers were. And so I give Declan Doyle a lot of credit for just opening this offense up and giving Lamar that feeling like he can be the MVP in this offense. We've got enough for you right now to be the MVP again.
1:45:04Pat McAfee:Yeah, and he was bought in, obviously, all OTAs, all spring, all summer. he was over there learning new offense, buying into everything, and I think it was very evident that he is in complete control. He was a maestro. 73, I forget the percentage. 73, something like that. 73 % motions, too. I mean, it's second highest, so I know motions are obviously a distraction for the defense to make things hard, but for the quarterback, he's got to remember all that shit. He's got to be very comfortable. He's got to remember it all, and whenever that play clock's going down, there was like seven seconds left, and he was still doing two motions on the play clock.
1:45:38Pat McAfee:Like the amount of confidence you have to have in that particular offense to do all that at the quarterback position. And then his swagger just walking in between plays. He was so comfortable. And obviously I think he has a lot of faith in the offensive line, but that offense as a whole, I think he knows it inside and out, even though it's his first time really running it, Maldi. I don't know if he broke a sweat. I'm just watching him, right? I'm just watching his highlights. I studied it yesterday afternoon, but like I'm not sure he even broke a sweat in this game. But, you know, you just look at the speed that they have on the outside and some of the young kids, the young tight end that they picked up from Hibner from SMU.
1:46:14He was a factor in the game, run blocking, catching. Mark Andrews has been doing that thing for a long time in Baltimore. But you see all the movement, getting Lamar out of the pocket, moving him like that. That's just smart football. Like, the guy is great getting out of the pocket and really putting the defense in a bind right here.
1:46:30Pat McAfee:And he never takes big hits, you know, because we always wondered, You can't play like that and survive, especially at the quarterback position. He can't survive. He can't survive. It's like, well, some guys have the ability to not get hit. Now, let's pivot back to the shite division because the Broncos could have been on there. Okay? We didn't put them on there. But we thought there was one piece for that Chiefs team that could have been their big issue. And it turns out not at all. Go ahead, Con, man. Yeah, Baldy going in and felt like the spotlight was on that left tackle spot. And then Khalil Benson, undrafted rookie out of Indiana.
1:46:59Pat mentioned it when he got introduced as a starter. He kind of owned the moment from that part of time on for the rest of the night. Were you surprised by the fact that Nick Benito didn't dominate the game, or are you more impressed by the fact that Khalil Benson and the game plan the Chiefs came out with was just to run the ball down their throat and dominate from start to finish? I wasn't surprised that they came out to try to run it. They had a whopper package in there where they had seven offensive linemen and a defensive tackle. They took all the receivers, tight ends off the field, And that's a play right there where Kenneth Walker, three sticks, goes 60 yards like that.
1:47:34But Khalil Benson, he started at Colorado and then he transferred to Indiana. Between what he did in Indiana and what they're doing with Andy Heck on the offensive line in Kansas City, nothing was too big for that kid last night. No, Nick Benito is a Mako shark. That's the fastest shark in the ocean. Like his takeoff is electric. He wasn't beat by that at all. In fact, he must have like anvil for hands because when he gets his mitts on you, he ain't giving it up. And he'll stone you. He's got heavy hands. And you can see it. He's like he's light on his feet right there. All kinds of traffic. He's putting guys on their back, little pancake blocks.
1:48:13But he was tall. Like I was out there in St. Charles, St. Joseph, Missouri this summer. And he was competing for the starting right tackle job. Then they had injury with Trey Smith, the right guard. So he went to the right guard. and he played his first snaps at left tackle last night and you can't tell that he was a rookie making his first start undrafted. It was an impressive performance.
1:48:33Pat McAfee:Baldy, how does he go undrafted, actually? He's a national champion. He's huge. Obviously, he has the ability. Isn't that like the draft is what we think he could become, what he think he could become? How's everybody miss? And then he had to go try out, right? It wasn't even like he was an undrafted free agent signing. He had to go try out. How does that happen, you think, actually? It happens every year. I mean, you could just say, okay, everybody talked about the quarterback. Everybody talked about the three receivers they had. They talked about the coach. They don't really talk about the offensive line and what he did against Reuben Bain in the national championship game or anything, you know.
1:49:10They just concentrate on just a couple of people. And even the guys that are going to do their homework, they're looking at, you know, size, weight, how fast does he run a 40-yard dash, and all these things can kind of knock you down. and none of them have anything to do with how you can perform. I mean, Andy Reid has found free agent offensive linemen for 25 years in his sleep. He did it in Philadelphia. He's been doing it in Kansas City. And so he just has an eye for this. He's an old offensive lineman himself. He's got an eye for guys that can stay on their feet, have good balance, have the right amount of toughness, and then just the mentality, Pat, where if you do get beat, you don't need a shrink to talk on the sideline to to get yourself out of a funk.
1:49:52You can kind of get yourself out yourself.
1:49:55Pat McAfee:We're talking about mental toughness, yeah. We need that. Need it. Okay, you need that. We've been thinking, and we haven't been naming any direct organizations in our private conversations, but it feels like every soft culture loses and every tough culture wins. You know, it just feels like that in football. Probably going to be like that forever, if we had to guess. But that was the thing that stuck out for the Seattle Seahawks hard knocks. I'm like, that's a tough – that is a culture over there. That's a hard-ass culture they got. That's probably going to be good in football. And I like that you're bringing up that Andy Reid has the ability to find those guys as well.
1:50:28Pat McAfee:I didn't know – I guess I should have assumed he was a former offensive lineman. I just knew he was a punt-passing kicker. You remember? That's right. In full pads, had the entire thing. I thought maybe he was playing wide out. But I guess looking at him, he probably was offensive lineman. It's offensive lineman, Pat. We're skilled people. Of course. It's more than just blocking. You know, like some of us can catch a ball. Some of us can kick a ball. Wow. Some of us, you know, can do, you know, dunk a basketball. Some of us can do pretty athletic things. I don't know if any of you can kick a ball.
1:50:57Pat McAfee:I don't know if any of you can do that. Andy Reid won the punt, pass, and kick competition. He was the biggest kid out there. He was a straight-ahead kicker, Pat. You know, the old Fred Cox style, straight-ahead. Yeah, absolutely. Who else grows up? Pull that video up. Pull that video up of Andy Reid out there. Yeah, is it grows up, too? He had the straight-on, right? Straight-on away. Yeah, I remember Andy Reid being a freak athlete. That's why I didn't think he was offensive lineman. You know, like – You can't believe this is real. Look at how natural he looks right here. I mean, there's no way that guy's an offensive lineman.
1:51:26Pat McAfee:That's not real. Wait, wait, wait. Yeah, that's my best kid right there. That kid behind him was – Yeah, yeah. He's a five-year-old. Team age. What? Team age. It's AI. This is real. He's the same size now. Yeah. Andy Reid was Andy Reid as a 14-year-old we just saw, and obviously he certainly – 14? I would say he was probably 13. That was probably like the 8 to 10 right behind. I'd hope so. That would be a Tony Almonte situation, actually. Well, I mean, Andy Reid could have been in college there. 15. You know he's super competitive. That's a good point. I know that is the case. AJ has a question for you about another hard-nosed football coach in a tough culture, I think.
1:52:04Pat McAfee:Obviously, that's proven to win. Go ahead, AJ. He's talking about the New York football giants. Obviously, hardball comes in there, and they establish themselves week one with a win over the Cowboys. What do you think of this offense most likely? Obviously, Jackson Darts, a quarterback, but we've got Scadaboo and Pat Ricard leading the way, I guess. What did you see from them week one, and do you think these guys are going to win a good amount of games this year? Well, they'll be in Los Angeles this weekend to play the Rams for their home opener. But just being around John since he was a special teams coach in Philly, it's all about culture, toughness.
1:52:38The team got a lot bigger. You go get a 6 '7 tight end in Isaiah Likely. You get a 310-pound fullback in Patrick Ricard. You go get yourself Arvel Reese, a 6 '5, 255-pound linebacker. They just got bigger everywhere. And then with that, he trains them hard. There's just no nonsense around John Harbaugh. And what he gets the guys to do to buy in is go beat the Cowboys on national TV and whip them at the line of scrimmage, and then you'll really get the buy-in. You know what? This guy knows what he's doing. Jackson Dart was protected. The guy was so accurate with all these throws. Now, the Cowboys didn't cover Motor Singletary.
1:53:17I don't know if they knew he was in the uniform or what his name was. They didn't cover him. That helped a little bit against the Giants. But still up front, they did a great job. CeCe Maranoa coming out of the University of Miami, trained by Mario Cristobal. The guy was trained so hard down there at Miami, coming to Harbaugh's camp. This is where he wants to be. This is the culture. This is what they want to be. And I just think that they're bigger, tougher, and I think mentally a little tougher. And getting Malik Neighbors on the field was a big, big boost to that team.
1:53:47Pat McAfee:Yeah, John Harbaugh tackled him, allegedly, in warm-ups to prove that he could take a hit, which is hilarious and good coaching. That NFC East certainly looks fascinating and interesting, does it not, with the Giants back. We'll continue digitally. The Shrags Show is next big day, I think, right? Yeah. Big days with big Shrags is next. Yeah, Monday to Thursday. Yeah, because on Friday I threw it to big day with big Shrags. It was actually Big Pate. Yeah, it was Big Pate. Yeah, yeah. So I kind of fucked that one up. I'll get that right, Baldy. Hey, we are still alive, Baldy, obviously, as we go.
1:54:15And I like the way, you know, like meathead football.
1:54:19Pat McAfee:Okay, there's 13 personnel this weekend more so than ever. Under center, here we go. How you doing? We're taking snaps under center. We got fullbacks playing a lot of football right now. It does feel like we're taking advantage of the modern rules with some explosives or like timing seem right on time throws. with the modern offenses, but it's getting back to power football. Is that something you've been seeing over the last couple years? And is this just the cyclicality of football, or how do you kind of view this style of ball going? I mean, all these quarterbacks that have been in shotgun their whole careers, you know, like a guy like Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia, now he's under center.
1:54:59Saquon Barkley is eight yards deep. Everybody is in two tight end packages. I've seen three tight ends and a fullback. You know, Andy Reid last night said, we're just going to run power football, put a whopper package out there. We don't care if you know we're going to run. Stop it. And so that mentality is back. And it's good. It's good for football. It makes you tackle. It makes you defeat blocks. It protects the quarterbacks better. We need quarterbacks in this league. We need Patrick Mahomes out there. But then you get guys like this. Like, guys like Kenneth Walker, probably the best game he's ever played.
1:55:31Like, you see his breakaway speed, his cutting ability, You know, his contact balance is running through tackles. Now, some of those week one guys don't tackle for seven months, and then they're asked to, you know, bring down the Super Bowl MVP. But I think this is a real hard trend, and you're going to see it week in, week out. Broadcasters are going to talk about it. Fans are going to know what 13 personalities. They're going to know one back, three tight ends. We're going to know the glossary of terms in this run formation right now that we're getting.
1:56:01Pat McAfee:Do you think Saquon and the Eagles kind of showcase that you can do that? Or do you think this is just natural evolution of smaller guys on the defensive side of the ball and offensive coordinators wanting to take advantage of that? 28 missed tackles last night for the Denver Broncos. Yeah, that was pathetic. Yeah, that's bad. That would be highlighted by Sean Payton in the meeting today, all the missed tackles, all the grabbing and diving. It's like an old NFL films clip. We're just diving and grabbing here, and we're not doing anything, and that's what it looked like. This is bad. This is bad football.
1:56:31But, you know, what I saw around the league, I saw a lot of bad tackling around the league where you go. Like, it was, you know, that touchdown by Rasheed Rice, if you put it up there. Oh, my God. They didn't pursue to the football. They didn't tackle at the point. They didn't leverage the play. Like, this right here, it's just a little hitch on the outside. Like, this is bad football. Gross. Yeah. That's gross. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's walking in the end zone. Everybody else is, like, diving on top of each other. You know, we've got to do better than that as a league. Otherwise, this is just fantasy football out there.
1:57:03Pat McAfee:Oh, Baldy's saying, listen, we can't have this on TV. It's embarrassing. This cannot be what people tune in and watch, all right? Yeah. They're watching flag football. Two different sports. We need our guys, especially a defense that we have so much respect for. Great punt there by Rasheed, by the way. Shout out to him blasting that thing. But the Denver Broncos have led the NFL in sacks the last two years. They're known as like a great defense. They're known as a physical defense, which kind of goes back. Do you think offensive coordinators are like, let's take advantage of these guys who haven't really had to handle physical football, and is this going to be something that continues all season, or will there come a time where defense, I guess this is more of a question for you, AJ, do we think like these defenses will naturally get better at tackling as they do more tackling through the season, or are we about to see like week eight through week 12 just old school 1990s like smash mouth football with not the massive amount of points that we saw this past weekend because I think the run game was leading to an explosion of points, which is so against, I think, natural philosophy.
1:58:06Pat McAfee:So, AJ, are these guys going to start tackling, or do we have a generation of players right now that might not be the right size to be playing against this style of offensive football? No, I think you'll see guys settle in. I mean, Baldy pointed out, like, you go seven months without live tackling, all of a sudden you're trying to tackle the Super Bowl MVP who looks more jacked than he's ever been in his whole life. So, yeah, I think the tackling will get better. It's something you get used to and you get more in game shape, I think. But, yeah, hopefully we are going to see this out there. And think about it as the season goes, as the elements become a bigger part of the game and you're playing in cold-weather climates, you're going to need to rely on some of this run game.
1:58:40Got to rep it. Just got to rep it. I think they'll definitely get better. And a lot of things we used to say as defenders is tackling is about want to. It's kind of like rebounding in basketball. It's about want to because you don't get to practice it. You're never going to practice it against your teammates, So you're only going to do it live most occasions on game day, Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays. So, yeah, teams will get better. But, Baldy, going to the Bears office, kind of sticking with the theme of hard-nosed teams. Ben Johnson has brought a hard-nosed brand of football over there. He rushed for over 290 yards, six rushing touchdowns.
1:59:10And they also have the element of that dynamic quarterback play with Caleb Williams. What's your expectations for the Chicago Bears this year? Well, when Ben Johnson came out in August and said we want to be the highest scoring offense in football of all time, not just this year, of all time, he wants to take down the Patriots offense. He wasn't joking. He was basically breaking all barriers of everybody in the household, not just the players, the coaches, the secretary. We're going to we're going to set new records. So he's got an escape artist in Caleb Williams and a magician that can just make these kind of plays over and over and over again.
1:59:49And then you just see the whole buy-in. Like on the Kyle Menunga 60-yard touchdown run, like you watch this block by Kalief Raymond, you know, and Luther Burden. Like they just knock guys out. It was a five-yard run that went 61 yards. So it's how everybody is coached. and what the expectations are at every single position. Theo Benedict came in to play left tackle during a game. The kid went to the University of British Columbia. That's the block right there by Rainier. That's cool. But Theo Benedict's from the University of British Columbia. But there's a toughness to this kid. You can see. And you didn't know that he came off the bench because of the way they played.
2:00:31That's that catch right there by Roman Duns. Unbelievable. The catch of the week over Will Lee there. But, yeah, I mean, this is crazy. Like, these blocks are crazy. You watch DeAndre Swift in Blitz pickup protecting his quarterback. Like, he's just stoning guys. Four times in that game, just stoned rushers. Bobby O 'Karaqui came and Bobby O 'Karaqui stopped. Like, they didn't get near the quarterback. This is good stuff. This is the stuff that gets you excited here, Pat, on a Monday afternoon in the film room.
2:01:00Pat McAfee:Yeah, I could imagine. And also on a Tuesday afternoon here, as Baldy's laying out what you're pumped up about. So you're saying this is sustainable, and this is something we need to just get used to because him projecting about wanting to be the highest scoring offense in the history of the NFL, was that him potentially saying, hey, I really like where Caleb is right now versus where he was last year? Because we all know that Ben Johnson's offense, if it's being operated at a high clip by the quarterback, it is going to be successful. I mean, what he did to Jared Goff up there in Detroit and what the Detroit Lions became under his leadership on the offensive side was electrifying and seemingly unstoppable in the biggest moments.
2:01:35Pat McAfee:Always had a third down play in the back pocket. always had a red zone play in the back pocket. The two must-have situations he always took advantage of. And if you could just play in that system, the system will win, and the system will do great. I think he knew where Caleb was, and where do you think Caleb is right now in this system? Because it looked spectacular. Under center, going through reads, and then everything we thought he would be able to add to the Jared Goff, Detroit Lions offense, he was with those long-ass runs. Should we expect that Caleb's only going to get better like he said afterwards, or do we think he's operating this offense how it's supposed to operate as they score 59 points in their opening week?
2:02:12They scored 59 points, and he was awesome. They put up almost 600 yards of offense, and they left points on the field. You know, that's the thing. Like, there was more points to be scored. Carolina kept them to 60. They could have scored 80. You know, so it's that kind of mentality. But Caleb is – I remember doing a high school football camp with Caleb when he was at Gonzaga High School in D.C. and I took him into the film room. He already knew exactly how to defeat every coverage. And then you went out and you watched him throw and you're like, that's an NFL arm when he was in high school. And then you see this balance and athletic ability, this ability to see the whole field.
2:02:51I mean, his tight end didn't catch a ball. His starting tight end didn't catch a ball. And yet, like this throw right here at Cole Komet, the other tight end, like that's a drag wheel route. Everybody has it in their playbook. Not everybody can make that throw against great coverage of Carolina. So, I mean, I think anything is possible right now, especially when they can run the ball and how they continue to run the ball. Short yardage, third and five, they're running the football. They just have a belief in what they're doing right now. And a two-back system with Swift and Monongah, it's lethal.
2:03:26It's very, very lethal.
2:03:28Pat McAfee:Yeah, I hope they're able to do it, you know, because that team's coming to Indiana. Yeah, you're right. And then you can make the official switch. With me. Well, I'm not doing that. Goodbye, Cole. Go ahead. One thing about Ben Johnson, Pat. Like, there's no rat poison, okay, being swallowed at Hallis Hall. It's just, like, you can, we can rave about that team all you want. I'm telling you, he's finding a way to let them know that that was a disappointing performance. There's more to be gained. And I think he's got their attention. He wasn't going to do the chant, right? Yeah, he's basically making them beg to do it.
2:04:03Pat McAfee:So, all right, guys, let's break it up. Let's get out of here. They go, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. We got a little good, better, best thing. You know, we're still in the middle of this working. They love him out there. Oh, yeah. And he was shirtless, what, towards the end of the year last year? Yep. And the boys were really rallying. You know, because we all wondered, were he and Caleb going to be able to get along? You know, because you're talking about him being miserable today and finding a reason to be miserable about a 59-point performance on offense, 37 points on the other side, which I would assume is what he is looking to be miserable about.
2:04:31Pat McAfee:But we thought maybe he and Caleb would never get along. He was going to have the power. Maybe Caleb would go somewhere else. Instead, it's like everything we've heard Caleb say is he wanted this. This is exactly what he wanted. He wants to be coached. He wants to be the greatest. And he understands what's available and how much better he can be. It's like, maybe perfect marriage. Maybe they've got it right up there in Chicago. And maybe this is the foreseeable future in the NFC North as there's question marks with the Vikings. Yeah. Yeah. There's question marks with the Green Bay Packers. Certainly.
2:04:58Pat McAfee:The Detroit Lions, we assume.
2:05:01Darius Butler:We'll see after Thursday. Blue 21.
2:05:04Pat McAfee:We'll assume. I mean, that's just what we got to do. Saints are a good football team, we think. But we assume that the Lions are a good team. But it's like, this could be the Bears. I mean, Chicago fans could be having a great decade and a half. What, Pete Crow Armstrong? How old is he? Very young. Four or five. Bedard. How are the Bulls? Captain Bedard. Fourth overall pick, Caleb Olsen showing a lot of promise for the Bulls this year. Is that the Cubs game, too? Is Chicago about to be? White Sox are going to make the playoffs this year. Moonshot attack. Oh, my God. We're all going to have to live in that, right?
2:05:35Pat McAfee:That the Chicago fans are about to be back in very loud? Well, you've got to win titles, though. Making the playoffs, who gives a shit? Come on. Chicago is a big city. I mean, who gives a shit if they make the playoffs? You've got to win titles. I mean, last year, I think they gave a shit in that. Well, right, because they have been hammered dog shit for so long, But now the expectations are, you know. Oh, you're saying they were in the shite division for a while? A long time. A long time. Really? The shite division? Chicago Bears for that long? Do you think they would have been in the shite division the last few decades?
2:06:03Before Caleb got there? I mean, who was it when Iberflus got fired on Thanksgiving? They were in the shite house then. They were in the shite division then, yeah.
2:06:11Pat McAfee:Well, congrats to Chicago Bears fans. Look like you guys have something to cheer for for the next 15 years, especially because you'll be able to keep them healthy. You're going to love Indy. I mean, Goff, what's that? And they're going to love Indiana. And we would like them to come visit their team on a very regular basis so that our state can maybe find a way out of what we're giving to have the Chicago Bears come to Indiana. Baldy, we appreciate the hell out of you, buddy. Yeah, thanks, Pat. Yeah. Hey, Jusie. I'm going to join you again, man. Have a great weekend, guys. Yeah, thank you. You too.
2:06:38Pat McAfee:Did you see Jason Kelsey's pass set last night? No, I did not. You need to see it. It looked good. It looked really good. He, I mean, he took like a three-yard. I mean, he looked like he glided across. And from my understanding, Jason Kelsey has been wanting to do fully padded one-on-ones with fans during Monday Night Countdown. So I think he does keep himself in great shape. But I think you should check that out. And I think maybe you should show something after I saw you work it out. Holy shit. Yeah, I saw you getting after it, Baldy. Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! You're a monster, Baldy. Let's go. What an inspiration you are.
2:07:18That's Lane Johnson's barn in the back of his house right there. And it's got a full weight room. So I sneak over there every Monday and Tuesday afternoon and try to get a little bit in. How much weight you had on that bar, Bodie? I know this trip. Not enough. Not enough. 225 at least.
2:07:36Pat McAfee:I do like you did a vertical shot on a potential wide with the weights. Yeah, you got to do what you got to do. This guy had 315 pounds on this bar. Many people don't know that. Bodie, how old are you, if you don't mind me asking? I am 67 today, Pat. Happy birthday. No, not today. On this day, you're saying. You're 67. Yeah, okay. That was an interesting way to say that, certainly. But happy birthday. We missed a few. But we were wishing him happy birthday for all 67 of them. Yeah, so happy belated. We'd like to wish you a happy early one, too, because there's another one coming, obviously, especially with how you look.
2:08:16Pat McAfee:There's a lot of them. You look great, man. Man, that's inspiration right there. So you get after it two times a week. Special dieting, too. Are we doing super dieting? I'm a diver, Pat. I'm a free diver. I'm down in Florida. Like, I'm diving as often as I can. So you're swimming out there with the sharks. You've got to be faster than the sharks, Pat. How deep? You're free diving from the surface? A minute and a half, two minutes down there. You've got to be lean. You've got to be lean. You've got to have great lung capacity. Like, that's what free divers do. What? Hold on. He's two and a half minutes?
2:08:44What's your deepest dive? I can free dive to 50 or 60 feet. I don't need to go any deeper than that because there's no reason to. I've seen those documentaries. I was just saying Cozumel diving to 50 feet. It was great.
2:08:56Pat McAfee:So do you have down there in Cozumel obviously going to all that? Yeah. Are you doing any fishing? But also follow up. You have the Merman floppers on? No, I don't have. I just got good flippers. I got good free diving flippers, man. So, you know, a couple little flutters and I can be down to bottom pretty quick. Okay. So you're on boat. They take you out to a diving spot. They say, hey, if you're able to get to 50 feet, you'll be able to see sharks. You'll be able to see. Is that kind of – is this like – I might want to get into this, actually. This sounds like a good time. With your ears. My ears will pop every single time because of the amount of pressure, I assume.
2:09:32Just got to clear it. Clear the ears. But I swim out to the reef. Just swim out to the reef, and then I go down, you know, when I see something interesting down there.
2:09:41Pat McAfee:Oh, so you're just kind of casual swimming around, and then all of a sudden, wait, what's down there? Let me go and bang two and a half minutes down there. You see a big loggerhead or something, you know, like this is, this is Cozumel down here, like big school of fish down here. There we go. How long you been going down there with, uh, with no oxygen? Uh, well, I mean, I can scuba with the best of them, but I like that right there. I just like holding a breath and going to take a look and go down there for a minute, minute and a half, maybe take a spear gun with you, find a lobster or something like that.
2:10:12Like it's just entertaining, Pat. You never know what you're going to see down there. You're from Pittsburgh? Yeah. North Hills.
2:10:19Pat McAfee:Love that. So you go down in Monongahela. Is that how we got started? I like visibility, Pat. The visibility of the Monongahela just isn't my cup of tea. When did you get into this? Have you always been a water animal or are you just like when you're - Always. Always. Always, man. I was a lifeguard growing up on the beach, so I was always in the water surfing and boogie boarding and all that kind of stuff. But then when I got a place in Florida, I just got the mask and fins and just started. Leonard Williams from the Seattle Seahawks, he's a spear fisherman. He can hold his breath longer than anybody I know.
2:10:52He's down there for two, two and a half minutes. There's a group of them down there in South Florida.
2:10:57Pat McAfee:Yeah, we just kind of head to the beach. Then we just swim out. And then we say, all right, we're going down here. Yep, we'll see you guys in about three minutes. We're going down there. That's the Lauderdale by the Sea pier right there. Yeah, there's always good visibility. a lot of fish down there, a lot of sharks underneath there, kind of feeding right there. But it's fun, though, because, honestly, you'll see some barracudas, you know, sometimes down there. Like, oh, man, it's just, like, eye-opening, you know? Yeah, certainly. Well, yeah, you have to. So are you punching shark in nose? What are we doing?
2:11:29Pat McAfee:No. No, there's guys out there that want to be aggressive, kiss the shark, kiss the shark club. I'm not doing that. But I will try to, you know, if I see, you know, bull sharks go by. I might kind of trail it for a little bit, see if I can keep up for a while. But usually they're going in a different direction. That's a Necton mentality, Brian Bollinger. Yeah. And was it a Minko? Minko sharks? Minko. Minko. Look it up. Minko sharks, the fastest shark in the sea. 60 miles an hour. What the fuck are you doing this close to this shark, buddy? Holy shit. Yeah. Well, we chummed the waters that day.
2:12:07Pat McAfee:We're actually looking for this guy. Bull sharks are some mean cuss. Yeah, mean cuss. He's trailing them. So this bull shark's got to look over his fucking fins at what baldy's behind.
2:12:17Darius Butler:Keeping up. He's balding. Still got it.
2:12:19Pat McAfee:With his cheeks puffed because he's got the last gasp of air in there. Come here, bull. And he's trying to slap him on the ass. I guess the tail, the fin. The shark is close. What can I say, man? That went right. Yeah. It came pretty close. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I think they have a little. you know the Kiss the Shark Club or whatever? I think the Sharks have a club too. Stay away from Baldy. It feels like that's the case. I don't know if we should all be doing that but I love that you're doing it. 67 years old, man. Keep inspiring. Keep moving and take more pictures because we'll never do that. I'll send them out.
2:12:55Post them out there, Pat. You got it, man. Thank you.
2:12:57Pat McAfee:It feels like I'm a part of it. I'm going to put those on the virtual reality so that I'm actually in there and I'll even do the thing. You're the man. Ladies and gentlemen. Oh, here's the set from Kelsey last night. Here's a set from Kelsey. Oh, let's see. He's left tackle Khalil Benson. J-Mac is Benito. Gotcha. And the first one, it's like, you don't want to get off slow on a snap. Yeah, Benito's got you because he shot out of the K. He's a Mako shark. To your point. So what Jason Kelsey said was, you got to get off. You got to know what it is. You got to be there way earlier than everybody else.
2:13:28Pat McAfee:If I was Khalil Benito, boom! Look at that. I still got it there, Baldy. What do we think? Well, that's good. I mean, Jason's a world-class lacrosse player, football player. You watch him on the golf course. He's just an athlete, period. He's got his white tennies on right there, light on his feet. He could still go chase a linebacker down the field right there, getting to the second level. I think he could catch a bull shark, too, if he had to. Some people were not happy on the internet about him wearing tennis shoes. Yeah, I saw that. I don't get it. Taking pass sets. Who cares? He's close to where.
2:13:58Who cares? Yes, Baldy. Good point, Baldy. Hey, man, brother.
2:14:02Pat McAfee:Hey, you're the man. ladies and gentlemen brian baldinger all right let's get to a break on the other side we got a brand new shake and we don't know if it's ever going to get to happen again have you heard about this one aj oh you're muted oh you're muted yourself self-abam yeah my mic is on my mic is on come on yeah can you hear me no nick just said yeah he muted him that's what nick mune Nick did four fingers on him. That was me. You just said shut up.
2:14:35Darius Butler:I brought AJ down instead of Baldy.
2:14:38Pat McAfee:Man, what if Baldy would have said I fucking hate these guys. That would have been incredible after the combo we just had. He's spectacular. The way he says everything. I would dive with him. That'd be awesome. You could probably hold your breath pretty long. You're in great shape. I take pride in holding my breath. I've been doing so as a kid. Oh, really? Me too, because we used to try to get through the front pit. Try to get to 10 minutes. 10 minutes? What? As a documentary, there's a guy that teaches people he can hold his breath 10 minutes, yeah. It's a long, long road to get there, but yeah.
2:15:07You got it. Thank you.
2:15:09Pat McAfee:Okay, so you got to do, like, exercises to, like... The guy does all kind of stuff, yeah. I mean, TC could do eight minutes, right?
2:15:15Darius Butler:Yeah, I just looked up Tom Cruise six to six and a half minutes. Yeah.
2:15:19Pat McAfee:Yeah. I potentially talked to Tom Cruise last night. That's awesome. It was. Yes, it was. And I'll tell you, I was dripping in sweat. And he had a leather jacket on and didn't have a single drop or bead of sweat anywhere. It was a cucumber. I asked somebody, how's this guy, as he walked away, how's this guy wearing a cow on him right now or a faux cow and not sweating? And they say, he's a movie star, brother. He's the movie star. He doesn't sweat, dude. This is kind of what it is. And I had a big, hearty laugh at that.
2:15:53Darius Butler:Yeah.
2:15:54Pat McAfee:I mean, I had a big...
2:15:55Darius Butler:Because it's very true.
2:15:56Pat McAfee:Yeah, it seemingly is. TC difference. Seemingly is. Got a chance to chit-chat with Miss Taylor Swift last night. Mm-hmm. Yeah, had a chance. Yep. There you go. Huge day. Yeah. Told us, what's up? You doing any photos in here? So on the way out, I go, Miss Taylor, is there any way I can get a selfie with you? She says, absolutely. She was so kind. So hospitable. Her mom brought sugar-coated bacon strips. Oh, candy bacon. Yeah, there it is. Candy bacon. That might be a billion-dollar bacon. It was, yeah, you're right. We're not 100 % sure what number it is. Maybe trillion at this point. But it was 1 ,000 degrees.
2:16:34Pat McAfee:So we walk all the way up there. Shout out to Jason Kelsey. So happy that I'm on a cast with him. He is an absolute legend, as in everybody up there. We walk up there. I'm dripping in sweat. I am absolutely dripping in sweat. Take the jacket off. We walk in. My shirt is just drenched, obviously. We open a thing. first person we see miss donna kelsey taylor swift and as soon as i look at uh miss donna i go legend how are you i go to taylor miss taylor and she goes pat and i go oh how are you big hug she wants and i'm drenched this is how i'm meeting taylor swift for the first time really you know wedding hello how you doing chaos though this is the first time really gonna talk just sweat all over i'm so sorry that this happened great to meet you you're the best they are hey she's all in she is every snap we're talking about up it was dumpy would you that was the most into it sweet we've ever been in yeah that place was absolutely
2:17:32Darius Butler:rocking it was so loud hitting the roof every time anything happened it was pretty electric
2:17:37Pat McAfee:everybody in there was all in i mean it was and then he had that 57 yard catch we were in there for that oh my god it was that is what like being a football fan was like because i don't obviously i don't know if taylor i know she had eagles jersey on whenever she was young she sang national anthem but she's been so busy with her career i don't know how much she was into football and i don't know how much everybody else that was in there like obviously you got the kelsey portion of everything too they're all football people in there but i don't know how new other people were to football it's like watching them experience the game was fantastic i mean it was They're all in, though.
2:18:10Pat McAfee:Was TC no ball? Yeah. What'd you just say? No way. What'd you just fucking say? Fucking ball. He better watch your fucking mouth. Watch all the right moves.
2:18:20Darius Butler:He did this with the popcorn, too, D-Budge. Don't see all the right moves. Yeah. We remember the popcorn gimmick. He played cornerback. He was a whippy old.
2:18:28Pat McAfee:He's a football agent. Where's Cooper DeGene before Cooper DeGene? He was a whippy old. Watch it. Where's he from? TC? Yeah. See? Heaven.
2:18:41Darius Butler:Not a ball place. In that movie, he was from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Yeah, exactly. I'd assume L.A.
2:18:48Pat McAfee:Fucking asshole. Just a question. But, yes, he knew ball.
2:18:51Darius Butler:He's from Mars.
2:18:52Pat McAfee:He was understanding what was going on. All of them. There was that fumble where on down the left sideline, and the guy was out of bounds when he touched it, and then it could have been scooped up and gone in there. Oh, yeah. So, in the moment, holy hell, there's a place he rubs. Obviously going crazy. Ball, ball, ball. Yeah, there was. a lot of that actually up in the front. Not just TC. Taylor as well. I mean, there was a full we got it going on. And as soon as they saw the replay, stepped out of bounds, everybody, before it was even announced, I was like, oh, no ball. It was a quick moment where I was like, oh, I'm going to have to explain to everybody that the fucking guy was out of bounds in this entire thing.
2:19:30Pat McAfee:I can already feel that this is about to happen. Instead, they were like, ah, out of bounds. Moved on. Just completely understanding on to the next thing. So it's like, I got a chance to actually see that that entire suite. I know it's on camera a lot. And I don't think they like that, by the way. They just want to watch the game. I think from my understanding, they just want to watch the game. I'm here to support my husband. Here to support like our friends. I don't know what's the suite arrangement, but we are here just to have a good football. And they certainly do. I fucking loved it. It's not just for the camera, I would say.
2:20:00Pat McAfee:Because we were in there. Had a little speaker going in the back. Nice. Never seen that in a suite. genius move. Somebody was on the aux in the back. Banger after bang. Good vibes in the back. And obviously Chiefs are winning there. That's good. Probably would have been a little different story if they were losing. They were winning. And I'll tell you, them all was kind of seeing Kenneth Walker go crazy. It's like, we like this guy. We like this guy. This guy's really good. I took that minus 10. If I had a new TCU to bring it, I would have took minus 20.
2:20:34Darius Butler:Patty Cots was bringing it too.
2:20:35Pat McAfee:Shout out Patty Cuts. I'll tell you what, Patty Cuts? No, bacon was the most memorable. Sure. There's got any bacon in there. Oh, not the bacon you ate. No, the candy bacon, also great because Mama Swift brings that in, and I believe baking and cooking is the thing. So sweating all over, Taylor, thank you so much. It's great to see you. How are you doing? Mom immediately, hey, would you like a pizza? And I go, holy, I'm okay, thank you. Oh, thank God. Finally.
2:21:06Darius Butler:you didn't take the candy bacon
2:21:08Pat McAfee:hold on hold on can I please explain myself I just sweat all over Taylor okay I felt like an asshole okay completely should not be here why am I here is everybody sweating in here or like I didn't really know what was going on how embarrassed I should be mom comes in with tray of candy bacon would you like some I'm trying not to be an inconvenience I don't want to be a bother I go no thank you and then I turn for a second I go yes I would like that actually I heard you're a fucking yes I would love that thank you so much you're the best love that you had your phone at the wedding by the way that was a gangster move because right after uh ceremony mom swift goes up model kelsey the parents go up and kind of explain what's about to happen how everything's about to go mom stuff goes i know you guys aren't gonna love this pulls her cell phone out because nobody has their phone obviously and i was like yes i love this lady right here she kind of handled the entire situation so it was the last time the only time i've ever really seen her so her bringing me that and here and it was like i did feel like an asshole me being like no but i was trying not to bother anybody and i was like Y 'all disrespectful.
2:22:05Pat McAfee:Please, I would love to have him. It was delightful.
2:22:07Darius Butler:Did you happen to ask Donna Kelsey how the addition on her house is going? Oh, yeah.
2:22:12Pat McAfee:I didn't fucking. That's on me. I missed it. I was kind of starstruck by Donna Kelsey. I don't doubt it.
2:22:17Darius Butler:She's tall. Yeah, that makes sense.
2:22:20Pat McAfee:She is tall.
2:22:20Darius Butler:It does make sense.
2:22:21Pat McAfee:Yeah, it certainly does. There's some athletes. Ed was in there, too. Ed's a house. Yeah, I gave him a full, good for you, man. Hell yeah, dude. Nice to meet you. He goes, Pat? He was going to the bathroom. Yep. All right, let me get the hell out of here. Yeah, it was maybe the safest place in the Midwest. If you think Tom's there. Yeah. Taylor's there.
2:22:41Darius Butler:I saw a guy sitting in front of the suite in the actual stands. The internet was like, that's a bodyguard. Yep, I saw that guy.
2:22:48Pat McAfee:Yeah, so I know a few of Travis's guys, obviously. They're good dudes. Ohio guys, you know, sports guys. So it's great. And I started pointing at people. I'm like, man, I don't know who a lot of these people are in here. I'm like, who's that guy? He goes, security. I'm like, for who? And he goes, ah. I don't know, but definitely had an earpiece in. It's like, man, are the fucking SEALs in here? There was a chance. Probably. But it was.
2:23:12Darius Butler:Tom's his own security. I was going to say TC. He doesn't have any. Right. Probably. He's got a satellite on him at all times. You were about to be like, no, I know. No, no, no. I don't want to give anything.
2:23:26Pat McAfee:I just want to let everybody know I felt very safe in there. I was looking around. And I'll tell you, as an observant person, yeah. Yeah, and also. Yeah, the litany of others. Lieutenant Pete Mitchell. Yes, black belt in like 10 different practices. It's TC. Doesn't need a bodyguard. No. Of course not. No. But looking around that suite last night, it was like, this is the power of ball. You know? Like, this is the power of full life. I don't want to say I got emotional, but it was like, this is fucking awesome. If you could bottle that experience in that suite with the people that were in there, just enjoying the game and give that to people who didn't know the sport or anything, I think they would be addicted to it forever.
2:24:04Pat McAfee:That was awesome. Thank you for the hospitality up there. They fucking love it. Every play. I mean, it was like, I almost felt like kind of, man, maybe I don't like ball, you know? Because like a couple plays happen and it's like, all right, we're just kind of bullshitting. They're like, nope, they're in. Like every single play, every single snap. It was quite an experience. Then I had to go home. Sure. I had to leave, and I got mocked and ridiculed for that. Sorry you got a day job. We're leaving the game? Yeah, because they were going to celebrate. It was a huge home opener win. Why are you leaving?
2:24:39Pat McAfee:You just said that this is the greatest week you've ever been. Why do you want to get? They were a very positive bunch, I would say. There was a guy named Demetrius. Tell you what, that guy's got to figure it out. More than Bacon. Bacon's got to figure it out more than anybody. This guy, not the candy bacon, a guy named Bacon. He was described in a text. Who's the fat little legend? And that's what you just need to know about this banking character. That's what I learned quickly. You're talking about an icon that's hanging around that group. And he might end up being the most famous one of them all.
2:25:12Darius Butler:Okay.
2:25:13Pat McAfee:From my understanding, no, not going to get into it. All right, let's take a break. On the other side, thank you to everybody in Kansas City for the hospitality. That was a spectacular start to the Monday Night Countdown run. Shout out to college football. all the environments that we've got a chance to experience have been absolutely on fire college football is bringing it nfl is killing it and on the other side we got a new segment sick is that a public photo right there i don't think we need to bring it up and out of them but that is bacon right that i am looking at on that screen right there we don't need to do that to bacon bacon's living a good little life okay but bacon's of a great little life great big life i would say in this entire thing from my understanding But last night was awesome.
2:25:53Pat McAfee:Thankful for it all. We got more football and sports to talk about on the other side. More headlines to break down. And football is – how's baseball? Is baseball still doing it? Oh, yeah. Big time. He's not big time. Jaji hit one? Yeah, he hit one to the fucking moon last night, which was nice. This is his first home run back. So still kind of same deal last time we talked about it. Like the playoff, the standings are going to flip around and switch around a bunch over like the last week of the season here. Okay, so Judge goes yard in front of 200 people in Minnesota. Yeah, it was rainy, really shitty weather.
2:26:27Yeah, it looked crazy.
2:26:28Pat McAfee:You know, a lot of people dress like seats there. Yeah, the twins suck, so that's a big part of it too. Okay, that was great. Toll, our man Toll, he had an immaculate inning, which is what, nine pitches and then three odds, strike them all out. And right beforehand, I saw the beautiful moment where he actually says to himself, man, I'm about to have a nine-pitch inning right here. And a big smile enjoys the moment and then delivers. This guy's an icon in my eyes, a legend. I love him. Are the Red Sox going to have a chance to go on a run? Are we actually going to win it all this year? Yeah, we are in it with the Yankees as well.
2:26:59We're probably the only two teams in the AL that have kind of locked in their wild card spot, you could say, that third one. Yeah. Being a little bit more of a closer run. But, yeah, him, our ace Garrett Crochet coming back from the DL pretty soon as well. Kind of similar to Judge. Been out for most of the year. So, yeah, Red Sox and Yankees are both going to be in it big time.
2:27:18Pat McAfee:I love this tall guy.
2:27:19Darius Butler:How about the smile right before the...
2:27:21Pat McAfee:I love it.
2:27:21Darius Butler:I'm going to throw this as hard as I can right down the middle and see if he can hit it or not.
2:27:26Pat McAfee:I like the thought of him potentially figuring out what's happening, too, in real time. Oh, shit. There is an opportunity here to do something special. Let me go ahead and put everything in this. This is the guy that hugged somebody last week, or two weeks ago, did a push-up last week. Now he's smiling before accomplishing... How often does this take place? Like, almost never. Very rare. My favorite baseball player. By far. I like Miz a lot. Is he still doing it, Miz? Oh, yeah. I think only two this season. Two different types. You know? Miz is pitching tonight?
2:28:00Darius Butler:Yes, sir.
2:28:01Pat McAfee:Okay, we'll watch that. Yeah, we will watch that. Definitely bet on it. Not that much. What's that? I'm definitely betting on it. Responsibly. Oh, that would be Miz. Okay, no, we're always gambling responsibly. How do we say that?
2:28:13Darius Butler:We're talking to the people watching it, not to ours.
2:28:16Pat McAfee:No, no, to everybody that gambles, needs to do it responsibly. Save your shekels for the NFL. Max bet. No, let's max bet responsibly. Okay, that is what we need to do, especially because when you guys are assholes, if that is what you're saying you do, which I don't like to hear about, it's me learning in real time that this is how you guys operate, you're going to ruin it for all of us.
2:28:35Darius Butler:Drew Ballyham goal coming up, kicks off in half an hour. Max bet.
2:28:39Pat McAfee:Responsibly. Responsibly.
2:28:41Darius Butler:Mbappe probably two goals as well. Real Madrid money line.
2:28:44Pat McAfee:Responsibly. All these things, you must gamble responsible. And your max bet should be a responsible number. Okay? Make sure you put the roof at a place that is responsible. Now, obviously it should never scare you at all. Now, all of those units in there, you can kind of develop your own ladder on how much you like, how much you don't like. But your max unit needs to be a responsible number. Because if it's not, you're going to ruin it for all of us. Okay? Don't do that. Please.
2:29:14Darius Butler:Well said.
2:29:15Pat McAfee:Thank you. Read the disclaimer. Yeah, it's right there. Gambling problem? Call 1-800-GAMBLER or 1-800-MY-RESET. 800-327-5050 slash visit gamblinghelpmassachusetts.org. 2:29:56Pat McAfee:doing that. If you do have a problem, please call, okay? Because once again, you can't ruin it for all of us. That's right. Now, we lost last night. We learn, we get better. and on the other side we cover everything that's happened and also debut D-Butts Hell yeah Peanut Punch Out Spotlight Be a friend tell a friend something nice it might change your life Take five Five

2:30:55Pat McAfee:A new podcast series from ABC Audio in 2020 goes inside a case that has captivated the nation. To many people, Luigi Mangione is a modern-day Robin Hood.
2:31:07Darius Butler:People were cheering the demise of this person they'd never met, who was a father of two and a husband and had a life and was just doing a job. From the manhunt ending in a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to what authorities are saying about a possible motive.
2:31:24Pat McAfee:I'm ABC News legal analyst Brian Buckmeyer. Listen to Burden of Proof, Luigi Mangione, wherever you get your podcasts.
2:31:39Pat McAfee:football is the greatest that's aj hawk the toxic table is here at boston connor and at ty schmidt one half of the hammer dad cowboys ap ton is here nine-year nfl vet darius j butler is here good to see you d butch uh it's been a great start to the season so good aj don't you think it's been a phenomenal start to the football season this year almost record-setting points already this year oh the nfl showing up in a big way and college has just had chaos already happened And so football is awesome. And I think we're all lucky to be experiencing it. And we can't wait for next week to start. But we need to point out something that hasn't been pointed out yet.
2:32:14Pat McAfee:Okay, obviously everybody's saying the defenses are ass. Defenses actually could just potentially be the entire AFC and NFC division in of themselves. You know, and a lot of ex-NFL players and ex-NFL coaches are coming out saying, these guys don't even know I tackle, I don't want to cover anybody. These guys don't treat the preseason with any respect because all they want to do is get to the regular season. They're just ass for the first three, four weeks. That's how we should just be viewing what defense is going to be going forward. I don't know if that's necessarily true because there's a lot of things that actually happen on the defensive side that are pretty electrifying.
2:32:51Pat McAfee:Massive plays. Huge turnovers that aren't just happening but are being forced. And that's why we decided that we have to do D-Butts, Peanut, Punch-Out, Spotlight. He has D-butt there with the punch out, but it's actually Peanut punch out. We don't want to give anybody else credit because Chuck Pagano tried to do that a couple years back with the NFL with a video about this. But the punch out, obviously, Peanut Tillman made it so damn famous. He had precision strikes, was able to get turnovers, forced them. Then it's kind of evolved through the league. Now it seems like it is something that is taught, expected, and certainly executed.
2:33:26Pat McAfee:First week had a bunch of them, D-butt. Absolutely. We had 44 turnovers across the league. That's up 14 from last year in week one. Now, last year was more of a down year, and we were in the league. This was something we saw, but we didn't see it really every week. Peanut Tillman was the guy that made it popular, obviously, well before that. We all know it originated with Chuck Pagano back at Wyoming. But then we had Peanut, we had Darius Leonard, we had Marlon Humphrey. We have these guys who kind of made it. Fred Warner, we see him do it week in and week out, and it's something we see in practice every day with teams, you know, kind of focusing on running backs have to go back to the huddle, and we're still punching out, punching out, punching out of the ball.
2:34:02So, yes, tackling was shitty week one, and it will get better, I think, as the season goes on, communicating, new defensive coordinators, new play calls. But I love what I'm seeing from all these punch outs, these forced fumbles. Now, ball carriers, you got to be aware when guys are chased from behind. And you can see from this tape, we got D linemen. We got big boys in the trenches getting in on the punch outs now. We got linebackers getting in on the punch outs now. And obviously, we always have DBs getting in on the punch outs. So these punch outs are more valuable. I don't care how many yards you give up throughout the game.
2:34:32If you create turnovers, we know how important that is for teams, for defenses. That could be the difference in a lot of these games. So I love what we're seeing with the evolution of these punch-outs week in and week out.
2:34:43Pat McAfee:AJ, you used to have to sacrifice the tackle for the punch-out. Now it feels like there's a method of getting both body on them and fist on them. I think that this one, Fred Warner, he's going to certainly stop the motion of the runner. But then also, let's get a shot in there if we can. The only downfall is you hit elbow, hit something else, you break hand. But it feels like guys are much more confident throwing these things, AJ, than maybe back in the day. Yeah, they're so accurate, I feel like. It's something that they work on in practice now. It's part of your individual periods. But what you see now, like right there, that's like old school, hey, first guy up, if you're the second or third guy in, let's get a strip or a punch attempt at the ball.
2:35:20That's always how we were taught back in the day. Now you're the first guy in. If you see that ball exposed at all, you are going for it. And it's just – it's awesome to see, like, how good they are at it. Also, think about if you're a receiver or you're a running back. You get – this happens a few times early in the game, and you know a team's attacking the ball. It's going to slow you down a little bit, especially when you're running in some traffic. Like, you are not going to be all loosey-goosey with that thing when you see defenses doing this.
2:35:43Pat McAfee:D, but I like that you did this because a lot of people were saying the defenses were bad. It sounds like we actually saw some good out of some of the defenses as well, but these lead immediately to points normally. Absolutely. Now, points obviously is the most important thing. We know it in the building points, then it's field position, and it's winning the turnover battle. So the more turnovers that you can create, now defensive coordinators, defensive coaches, you're going to go in the building, everybody's going to go and grade their players. But the main thing is winning that turnover battle.
2:36:09We're going, if we get three turnovers as a defense, we expect to win that game. I don't care how many points the offense puts up. So stopping those drives, you know, bread zone efficiency on defense as well. But these punch-outs, man, these are very, very valuable. And like tackling, that's usually a difference, One big difference of the very, very good defense and, like, the average defense, the open field tackling. You heard me and AJ talk about it all the time, like guys stapling guys to the ground in the open field. That's big. You got to work on that. You got to get better on that as the season goes on.
2:36:37But I don't care if you're in OTAs with shorts and T-shirts on. You're practicing punching the ball out at all times, and we're seeing it be more effective now on Sundays.
2:36:45Pat McAfee:You talk about your defense wanting to have three turnovers and it doesn't matter what the offense does. Stats coming out of the first weekend about turnover differential. Yeah, teams that want a turnover differential this weekend were 13-0, and it felt like we saw that, especially last night. There were even big moments where sometimes the other team, of course, you can turn the ball over. I mean, we saw it with Patrick Mahomes. He threw his interception, and all of a sudden it looks like the Broncos are set up first and goal. They're going to go in and score again, but then that gives Kansas City a huge opportunity for their defense to shine again.
2:37:14They almost get another turnover. That was the play that you were talking about right before the last break where the guy stepped out of bounds and got that fumble from Bo Nix. Unfortunately, the Broncos kept it, but I believe they won the turnover battle as well. That's just part of it, too. There's a reason to practice it. If you get a turnover, you get two turnovers, especially with the way guys are carrying the football now. You give your team a huge advantage to win the football game, and it does feel like we see that, and we also see it with points. It's great for us. You turn that ball over in the red zone, especially in the other area, all of a sudden you're setting your team up for success.
2:37:47You're going to score more.
2:37:48Pat McAfee:I always say that the negative side of it is breaking your hand. Do we ever hear of anybody breaking their shit on this? Negative side is that you possibly might miss a few tackles throughout the course of a year if you're the first guy going for it. But the other positive thing, too, like I said, it slows running backs and people down. Like you teach like little kids, hey, let's punch at that ball. If I miss, I'm hitting them in the ribs, the kidney, the back, the stomach. Like we're beating this team up as well. Well, that was kind of a part of it, right? Because guys were letting guys fall to the ground, not touching them.
2:38:18Pat McAfee:And then as soon as they stood up, just punching them right in the ribs He was going to start him. That was like something that started happening. And the NFL was like, excuse me, we're not doing body blows, okay? TJ Watt, a few years ago, if you remember, he was throwing hay. He loves throwing that punch in there. And the NFL was like, hey, we don't want to have to judge intent on many things because, you know, people don't love it. But you have to at least look like you're going for the ball. Listen, AJ, yeah, I got to tell him. Hey, listen, you missed the ball. You missed the ball. Quinnen Williams, though, it was like broad daylight with the angle we had.
2:38:53Pat McAfee:He's punching and rapping at the same time. It's like a tackle form and a technique now at this stage. And AJ's teaching it going forward. So he's not going to miss that tackle if he does miss the punch. It's a really good art form and a talent, I think, to have.
2:39:08Darius Butler:I was going to ask AJ because you're obviously teaching young kids now. When we were younger, it was helmet on the football. Are they still teaching helmet on the football? Are they teaching more of this? Maybe they're too young for what you're dealing with. but do you know through high school through college like what they're teaching now as far as this is concerned well how they teach tackling i think is a different world they have this hawk tackle situation head behind which i don't i cannot subscribe to i don't know exactly how it
2:39:30Pat McAfee:works i agree it's called the hawk tackle like after you it's like no it's like with the seattle seahawks kind of they kind of made it a thing you know the rugby situation it's how they try to keep the head and make your head out of it and make tackling uh safer i guess i can just in certain little wait so your head's not across the body anymore but no i teach you bite the ball that's I think a lot of coaches still teach bite the ball, which means teaches you, hey, my eyes need to be up. And you always said head on the ball. But if you say bite the ball, it's like, okay, I got to be able to see the ball.
2:39:56Therefore, my forehead is going right on the ball.
2:39:59Pat McAfee:I saw Myles Garrett practice in this too, didn't we? Yeah, he was. Worked out for him. Dang it. Wow, we didn't even think. Did we put those exercises he was doing? Yeah, the explosion up. Maybe that was so different for his knee. Maybe that guy had such different technique that his knee just couldn't handle the explosion.
2:40:20Darius Butler:That's true.
2:40:21Pat McAfee:This guy's coming in and making people too explosive. Get him out of here. Get him out. Ruining careers. I mean, I think so. Yeah. Guess where that guy's at now? At the fucking bottom of the Pacific Ocean. No, Brian Baldinger went down and got him. That's true. Well, I don't know. Baldy's more of an Atlantic guy. So since this video was taken, we now learn because he hadn't practiced, right? Yeah. Yeah. So he was practicing. This was like his first practice back and he was doing this. No, this was from the summer. Yeah. It's been a while ago. But in the summer, when did he get hurt? In the summer?
2:40:58Darius Butler:I think as soon as he got traded.
2:41:00Pat McAfee:Well, that's what I'm actually wondering, though. Like, when did he get hurt? Was he hurt in this video?
2:41:04Darius Butler:No, because he went out for the very first practice. There was video of him going out for the very first practice. Then something happened that first week. You can kind of see him tweak his knee there a little bit.
2:41:12Pat McAfee:In this video?
2:41:13Darius Butler:Didn't Monken take a tire iron to his knee on his way out of the building? Was that it?
2:41:17Pat McAfee:Do we know when Miles Garrett got hurt? Because he was limited, limited, swelling, swelling. Swelling would be a meniscus-type situation where fluid gets in there. I think we've all experienced that, obviously. Anybody that's ever had a knee, you could certainly get fluid in there. Ed Monix used to have to get his shit drained all the time before every single game. Whenever he was down there in Kentucky and when he joined the Flint Tropics. So we know, like, swelling definitely happens to the knee. But did he show up hurt? Did he have to go through a physical for that? Yeah, definitely. And we saw him on the field with Aaron Donald in pads when it was raining in that video.
2:41:51So, like, it's not like he wasn't – he got there and he didn't practice at all. Like, he definitely was in pads on the sideline with the Rams practicing at some point.
2:41:59Pat McAfee:But we saw him on the field, too, in Australia. So they put him out on the field. Yeah. So it's like, was he thinking he was going to just be able to manage that? And he wasn't able to manage that? and was he managing that the entire time? That's why they were having swelling in the knee and he wasn't in there. Like, that's – I have a – I have some questions on why I thought I was going to see Myles Garrett and Aaron Donald together this year, and now that's seemingly delayed for the foreseeable future with, I think, Aaron Donald. Can't wait to see him back. Oh, my God. Monday Night Football return?
2:42:30Set uncertain on Big Day with Big Shrags. Uh-oh. He saw the list. Why would he not be playing? He's playing. He's uncertain, I don't know. Because he only came back to play with Miles. Now Miles is up, bro.
2:42:41Pat McAfee:My head might have to wait another five weeks, a month. Head coach Sean McVay on if Aaron Donnell will play Monday. Haven't decided yet. Big day with Big Schrag says uncertain. So how many different ways can we phrase this? Let's toss this in chat GPT and see how many different ways we can say we don't know. One way or the other, why would they tell you, though? They literally never should. but it would be cool for us to just get excited about, though, maybe Monday Night Football having Aaron Donald return to a football field for the first time in multiple years where a guy who's potentially going to go down as greatest defensive football player of all time is hopping back in the saddle in Los Angeles with a team that needs him, needs a spark, needs an Aaron Donald.
2:43:22Pat McAfee:Because the first week down in Australia, down under, they took a poop down under in their pants. They did. All of them. All of them were eating Vegemite sandwiches right to the face. Vege shite. It was Veg's Shite, wasn't it? It was a Veg's Shite that found them on the AFC-NFC Shite division as the Super Bowl favorites. So maybe 99 coming back is the only spark that they need for an entire team. So maybe they need to tell us a little earlier, you know, if they're going to have that. Or maybe the New York football giants.
2:43:56Darius Butler:He hasn't won that physicality. You don't think Aaron Donald wants that physicality?
2:44:01Pat McAfee:He hasn't won. You're kind of disrespecting on those. Who's that?
2:44:04Darius Butler:He doesn't want to see Pat Ricard in the A-gap. Who's that? CeCe Marinara. I fucking love Marinara. Me too.
2:44:11Pat McAfee:That guy's a beast. Yeah, he is. Baldy named them all, didn't he? Yeah, he did. As soon as he said that. He didn't know. Yeah, he – And Baldy, I think he does kind of literally watch every single snap of every single offensive lineman. Oh, yeah. I think we could have dropped any of the teams, even the shite division teams, offensive guard. Hey, I want to hear about this particular set of guards on this team. I think he would have had that for us. But you're right, Marinara. unbelievable yeah just an absolute greater 310 pound record how you doing keep moving and then they got to deal with likely and this was something i think you know we should have could have mentioned last night if we would have knew that kenneth walker was going to be the bell cow you know whenever you're handing the ball off a lot like that you know what that does sucks them up that sucks them up and then who's right behind there oh travis kelsey for 57 yards big holes you know that is kind of what, that's going to be for the Giants there with Likely.
2:45:03Pat McAfee:Because they got a lot of meat. So you got to get people in the box, right? And if you're a linebacker, you're going to have to get up. You're all right? You have to go. Got to honor it. Got to honor that run, yeah. And then guess what's happening to A.J. Hawk? He's just sitting there getting sucked up. Sucked up. Sucked up. Euphoria is happening. Oh, I'm going to make a play. And then all of a sudden, boom. Yep. Right behind you. Boom. Isaiah Likely. boom Travis Kelsey boom all these teams that are going to run who have tight ends that can make catches and are fast yes correct that's going to happen right there that is that is the 13 evolution here because also fake block tight end shed idiot sucked up linebacker gone I mean that that is what this becomes right especially if we're talking about the 13 run heavy uh offenses that we're about to see probably yeah think about if you're playing like D but no say you're playing man and you're on a tight end, he's on the line of scrimmage.
2:45:59Happens to the linebacker sometimes. And you're walked up and you're on him. Say it's third and short, second and medium, whatever it is. And you're like, okay, here we go. I got to hold the C-gap or I got to hold the edge. They're going to run to me. And all of a sudden he flashes like he's blocking. Boom, slides right by you. And you look like an idiot, fall on your face. And they throw you a seam route right behind you. Yep, I got benched like that my second year. Dustin Keller, Monday Night Football Jets, 22 person. I think it was like third or fourth and one. Same exact situation AJ's talking about.
2:46:25Got the edge, gave me a little flash. and then after after i'm like fucking dustin keller would never be at the point of attacking a run what am i doing boom had like a 50 yard game but yeah it's part of it happens quick
2:46:37Pat McAfee:got her got to honor yeah and all it takes is one play all it takes is one play yeah and obviously what the bears are going to do with ben johnson tight ends are going to go crazy even though they even didn't on this particular sunday it's only a matter of time before tight ends right behind the linebackers that's why being able to throw this ball right here is so important The layered ball. Yeah, in this modern NFL offense, got to be able to throw this ball right here. Got to get over that linebacker who got sucked up. Oh! As they're going back, you know. Going back this way. Got to get over there.
2:47:10Pat McAfee:And they're tall. Oh, yeah. Tall, lanky. Got to get over there. And then there's a corner probably on the outside. That's probably got some sort of shell coverage out there. And then you've got a safety on the inside. So you've got to get it over, in between, on time. That's what you've got to do as a quarterback. And if you can do that, it feels like you can really prosper. Doesn't matter when you're picked. You can be Mr. Irrelevant. You can be the number one overall pick like Caleb Williams. It does feel like if you have a run game and you can layer a ball, your offense is going to do really well in this modern NFL.
2:47:47And Lamar Jackson, yeah, he certainly figured it out as well.
2:47:51Pat McAfee:We had a linebacker on the field. I don't know if you guys saw this. The Colts had a linebacker on the field for 42 snaps. 42 plays. Zero anything. He was a linebacker. He's a linebacker. How does that happen? No way. What? No way. Not even like a half tackle? Didn't jump on a pile. I don't even know if he saw a pile. I don't know if he tackled anybody. Bailey McComas is the one that sent me the stack because obviously Bailey is a – 42. I think he had 42 snaps. If we could try to find this, what Bailey McComas said, if it's real or not, or if Bailey was just sending me a rage. Yeah, could have been doing that.
2:48:26Pat McAfee:Killing this guy. It's PFF grade, so, you know, take it for what it is. Shout out to Sunday Night Football not doing that anymore. That is very cool not to have to learn that the worst football player on earth is going to be on my TV screen tonight. I'm happy I don't have to do that anymore. Wait, they're not doing it or they just not have the grades? Nope. They're not putting it on the graphics. That's actually a really good point. They don't have the radio.
2:48:46Darius Butler:They don't have the grades? We'll see. No, they're not doing it because PFF sold. It's not connected to NBC anymore.
2:48:51Pat McAfee:Chris Collinsworth, congratulations, bro. Good on you, Chris. I mean, he certainly raised a little bit of hell with that thing. Yeah. He got really loud, but congratulations. Yeah. According to PFF, linebacker Jalen Carley did not record a single stat in 42 snaps played. Wow. Now, they might have updated that. Maybe he had 42 tackles. I'm not a person sure, but early reports is there wasn't a lot happening on the defensive side of the ball. But how could he? God, imagine. Shout out to the ball. Shout out to the ball, man. All the two tackle. Jump on the pile, like you said.
2:49:26Darius Butler:Also, according to PFF, I believe Caleb was like the 25th best quarterback this weekend.
2:49:30Pat McAfee:And that's why Caleb immediately afterwards was like, you'll see with PFF. We can get a lot better. We can get a lot better. How about Baldy saying they left some points on the board? That could have been 80. And then on the flip side, is Chicago going to be able to stop anybody? We talk about, you know, the football gods with single possession games and kind of getting lucky. It's like Carolina Panthers were very high on their offense, or are we very worried about the turnover-dependent Chicago Bears defense from last year? They got a former head coach, Dennis Allen, so I have faith in them to figure it out and get better.
2:50:00There was a stretch last year. They played with no healthy linebackers for a decent stretch of the season. So they will figure it out. I think they will get better. Will they be at the same pace that they were at last year? No, but if their offense can score like that, just get a few turnovers and give up 21 or less. But also, at the same time, I am kind of high on the Panthers' offense. I like Bryce Young. He's playing for a ton of money, playing for a big contract. I love T-Mac out there wide out. Love Jalen Coker. Huge. Big Hubbard. Like, I love a lot they have going on on the offense. Now, a new play caller, we'll see, you know, we'll see if he can keep this up.
2:50:34Because once you kind of get the book on a guy, you know how successful they can be.
2:50:38Pat McAfee:How's the NFC South doing, Con Manly? I think they had a solid week. I don't think they won. But I do think they're. What do you mean they? The division as a whole. I know people who were Panthers fans actually were looking down at everybody else saying, oh, what up, bitch? Saints fans, Falcons fans, you guys fucking suck. We scored 37 points. So they're actually in first place. Oh, because they scored the most amount of points in a loss, even though the entire division lost. Bingo, yes. They feel as if they won. I would like what the Saints did. I think what the Saints did was good. And I appreciate Kelly Moe, respect and ball.
2:51:14Pat McAfee:Going. And going for two there.
2:51:15Darius Butler:Yeah, got to.
2:51:15Pat McAfee:Thank you, Kelly Moe. Don't love the play call. Kelly Moe, your offense has done so well, you're a super genius. Obviously, you have a quarterback that can shuck that thing. I don't like just a fade. I feel like you're just kind of putting that into the fate of football. It's kind of like me doing a universe ball in here. Like, certainly can get it, but can we not, you know, let's have a guarantee type play here to win the game, potentially, as opposed to just a bailout fade. Other than that, okay, I'm being a little negative about that particular play call. Everything else I love what I saw from the Saints.
2:51:45Oh, that's a base. That's a – what do you guys just call it, AJ? Star route? A little sit from the outside, a little seven route from the slot. I think it's a good job out of defense. You got to force them to make – That's common. That happens. Yeah.
2:51:56Pat McAfee:No, I need to see some shit. I need to – You want to chuck this sprint out a little bit, maybe give him a run option there if he has to. Yeah, I just need to see – you know, this is like betting on a coin toss. It's over immediately. I would love to see – That's good defense right there. If you pause it at the top of the route, ideally you got a flat route, So you got somebody running to the pylon, and you have a guy sitting right on the goal line. And then on the back line, you got that corner route. So you got three options. And Detroit just did a great job covering them all up, honestly. Yeah, running back in the flat, obviously a touchdown if he gets there.
2:52:28Pat McAfee:That's a complete opposite side of where he's looking. Obviously, he's 1-2-3 to that side. And obviously, maybe if the Detroit Lions secondary has a miscommunication, that guy's wide ass open, and we say it's a great call. That's what you're saying? Yeah. What I'm saying is I need a fucking Deucey Doe. I need some real magic.
2:52:44Darius Butler:Like what the Chiefs did last night?
2:52:46Pat McAfee:Now, on that note, not only what the Chiefs did, the Commanders, I like Justin Fields on the field with Patrick Mahomes, by the way, and I like that they gave that to Kenneth Walker, you know, because I like that they were drawing up touchdowns for the guys that we super boosted. Let's continue to try to think about that as we go forward. Like, hey, who are they going to want to score touchdowns for going forward? The Commanders, I thought that, I like that there was a gimmicky in this. You're going right into Jalen Carter, right? I mean, doesn't that feel like but once again, if they jump and bite and that's wide open, could be a genius.
2:53:16Pat McAfee:I didn't really love it either.
2:53:17Darius Butler:It's about the players. What did he say? It's about the players, not the play? I believe is what Tom said on the broadcast. David Bluff here's an old man. I mean, look at that spin move. Look at the spin move he did to make this play, though. He's on the other side of the line. Two guys spin back into it.
2:53:32Pat McAfee:And once again, like, if that ends up working out, genius. Yeah. Absolutely. genius. But instead, I look at it and I go, I hate that. Why is that what we're doing? Now, the reason why they had to do that in the situation... Yeah, unbelievable. He jumps like six yards. Yeah, it's like six yards of movement. Think about being that big, that athletic. That'd be sweet. That's what I saw last night on the field. You just kind of get reminded of how big these guys are and how athletic everybody is. Yeah, I mean, he's way outside. Way out. He reads it too. Oh, where are they going? Oh, they're going to...
2:54:05Pat McAfee:Bang! Let me hit that thing. Boom. You didn't think I was going to be here, did you? Nope. Not supposed to be there at all. Wins the game. Now, why'd they have to do that? Hmm. What the fuck's going on with Stephon Diggs? Wow. What the hell's going on? Now, could he not stop? And maybe the refs should have gave him a little bit of grace here because he was going so, oh, you know what I mean? I mean, that looks dang. Do we know that's a penalty? Did they know? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Jimmy Graham kind of. Well, yeah, Jimmy Graham dunking on it. I think AB used to... Pac-Man actually started. AB and Pac-Man, yeah.
2:54:41Pat McAfee:And then they said, no more touching the upright at all, right? That kind of became a thing. Can't use anything when it feels a prop. I think when Tomlin put him in against us, when AB ran the punt back, I think he did this gimmick right here. Yeah, he did. Okay, we all remember that. Some of us actually had a view from like 30 yards away on the ground while it was happening going, why the fuck is that guy in the game right now? That's what I said. But Pac-Man did it back in the day. A.B. did it. Obviously, Jimmy Graham was dunking on it. And they said you're not allowed to touch anything. But Stephon Diggs in the moment forgot about that because he was just going so fast.
2:55:17Pat McAfee:He was like, I need to stop. Let me run my penis into this. And he did. I mean, that was a full send. Yeah, it was. Almost like a jackass skin. A little bit. Seriously. I'm going to run full speed into a pole with my balls. Apparently, buddy, you can't do that. I don't think so. Not on this football field. And what did he do? Costs the team. Yeah. He did. But if he didn't score a touchdown, they wouldn't be in a situation. So there's always the constant, you know. Duality of man.
2:55:44Darius Butler:Classic shite calls from the refs every time. I mean, it's just never ends with these guys.
2:55:50Pat McAfee:You think they should have respected the fact that he rammed his entire bit into the pole there?
2:55:55Darius Butler:I mean, there's just some calls around the league that were just Bush League. I mean, Dolphins got – not that it mattered. We would have lost anyways. but they got flagged on a third and 15 for a pass breakup because the guy did an incomplete sign, 15 yards.
2:56:09Pat McAfee:I heard there's some Packers fans are also not happy about, like, maybe the officiating. Is that real? Yeah, big time. You know, like multiple times stopping them on third down and kind of just phantom flags. Carson Wentz throwing an interception, kind of just flag coming out of nowhere. Carson Wentz getting sacked, and because he's just a big lumbering shithouse, didn't know how to fall down on his own. So we get the body weight thing, you know, give him another first down. A couple things, but again, don't put yourself in that position. Don't put yourself in the position to bitch about the refs.
2:56:36Pat McAfee:Well, there's people I think that are just out on the NFL because of the refs. Yeah, I did hear that as well. Not out on the Packers. Out on the fucking league as a whole. Because? Yeah, these refs are full of shit. I heard some gripes about refs last night. That was fun. That was really fun. Is it not holding here? I think TC did ask a couple questions about the officiating. I think he certainly did.
2:57:01Darius Butler:I did see the internet was pissed. A couple missed holding calls.
2:57:04Pat McAfee:Yeah, Broncos fans were not happy. Yeah, I mean, as soon as Travis got called for one, I think, right? Travis got called for a hold.
2:57:11Darius Butler:He did not get called on the Mahomes touchdown. They were mad about it.
2:57:15Pat McAfee:So I was with Jason on that one. Because hands are inside. I mean, hands are inside. The guy turns sideways. He's still got good form. I mean, he has good blocking form. They're never going to call that. Never going to call that. There was one in the Lions game where Saints fans were very upset,
2:57:33Darius Butler:and I kind of agree with them on this one.
2:57:35Pat McAfee:All right, well, let's not have this happen this year.
2:57:39Darius Butler:Was that the intent fumble that Foxy did? Oh, yeah. He intended to throw it forward.
2:57:44Pat McAfee:Yeah, I don't think I fully get this one. I don't either. Rules are rules. Oh. Yeah. I didn't see that. Oh, yeah. So he intended to throw the ball forward, and the forward motion of his arm did start. So his intentions were to throw the ball forward. Instead, because he was blasted so hard by Chase, the ball went backwards, which in any other time of football would be live ball. So I guess the rules is, though, that just because Goff thought about throwing it forward, that's just an incomplete pass. First time I heard that one. Jack Fox hit a, I don't know, 80-yard punt after this to flip the field.
2:58:26What a stud. On third down. He's a monster.
2:58:30Pat McAfee:Yeah, beast. Saw punt guard last night, hit some beautiful ones. Denver Broncos, it was really windy. I mean, it was really, really windy in there. That was one of those days, standing there, just feeling that shit. Thank God I don't have to deal with this. My entire life is dependent upon this win not completely fucking me here. I only got 17 of these games. okay my entire career is on just from this one and you walk out there just full on the drop is going to be insane if it gets in the air there's a chance that shit just gets spit right back down guys did a great job last night but it was another reminder i actually told will let's good luck bro a little breezy huh yeah it's gonna be a good one And he goes, why are you pointing that out?
2:59:20Pat McAfee:I'm like, it is, man. I watched Bucker miss three, four straight from like 55-plus warming up. Just completely going off to the side. I'm like, damn, this is a real problem. And then I felt really good about our ground and pound boost.
2:59:35Darius Butler:Yes. I didn't know Harvey was getting so many touches. Harvey's electric.
2:59:41Pat McAfee:We should have done a little research, I guess, that he was going to be getting the ball a lot. He was explosive.
2:59:46Darius Butler:Yeah. Got juice. He didn't score, though, either. Great returns, though. He was really good for their special teams. Yeah. J.K.
2:59:56Pat McAfee:Dobbins didn't score either. No. We love J.K. Would have been nice to hit a plus 600, AJ. Would have been nice to hit a plus 600 on the folks here. You know, first Monday night football. First one should have hit. All right, if this goes in, we're going to hit our next one. Okay. It's not world peace. It's football season, AJ. I am for no cause. I am for no cause, foreign or domestic, other than football. Yep. Okay.
3:00:26Darius Butler:Guy needs to get his dauber up.
3:00:28Pat McAfee:D.R. bummed out over there. Yeah, he bummed out. It's over. Chargers? They got dying daubers over there. You bailed on them anyways. Sorry.
3:00:37Darius Butler:Dicks are in the dirt. My dauber's up.
3:00:39Pat McAfee:You got four teams to potentially get your dauber going. You're kind of getting four. Dauber from all angles. What were we talking about with Rapp? You know he went right on the big day with big strikes there? Yeah, he looked awesome. Do you think they talked to him about seven, eight minutes about him smoking meats? Why isn't anybody talking about that? Missed opportunity. This guy is a meat smoker. Like a meat smoker's meat smoker. He is. All right, this goes in. We're hitting our next boost. Okay. When's that coming? Thursday? Probably? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah?
3:01:13Darius Butler:Who's playing?
3:01:14Pat McAfee:Lions bills. Lots of points. I'll go with points, points, points. Touchdown party.
3:01:19Darius Butler:Oh, yeah.
3:01:21Pat McAfee:There's a chance we're going to have boots on the ground up there. too. Could be you.
3:01:25Darius Butler:Possibly you.
3:01:27Pat McAfee:Well, Gumpy, yeah. Actually. We got a Bills fan in there. Yeah, we don't necessarily... I don't know if we can set that face up there.
3:01:36Darius Butler:Buffalo Bone? Unfortunately, I do fear everybody's going to be looked at as Bone if it's not you up there.
3:01:43Pat McAfee:That's very true. But it's not about the people there, though. It's about just showcasing what's happening. Yeah, for sure. Which Bone can do. Canning? Oh, yeah. Fish eye? Is that what you're talking about? We're using a fucking iPad camera. Can you imagine, though? Bone goes out there, tailgates, does an elbow drop off the top of an RV onto a table. With the mustard ketchup man. Yeah. Now we're talking. Off the top of the bison, the baby one. That works, too. He can't get on it, actually, because maybe... Yeah, same size. Like, I'm crumbling down. What do you mean? Is he going to fall off? Are you worried about his safety?
3:02:15Pat McAfee:I'm worried. Yeah, I'm worried about all parties there. Bison family included. Yeah. Standing on a roof of a car. Dents the car. Ends up in the driver's seat.
3:02:23Darius Butler:Yeah, it has to be a tank.
3:02:27Pat McAfee:You're doing good, buddy. Hey, Bono. Keep walking to Mordor. He's looking good. He is looking better. He's looking good. He said he was down eight pounds in one of his posts. That's awesome. I like that. I love the facial hair decision. I didn't get to see that yesterday. What? You seeing him for the first time. It was awesome. It was awesome. It was one of my favorite moments of the last six months. I told people specifically, I need candid camera up in there when Ty walks in. I need microphone on. I need to see first reaction, and I don't need Ty knowing that we're recording it. Just because that was a very aggressive decision with something that is very seen, which is a face by D-Bone.
3:03:14Pat McAfee:And I imagine that you were going to compliment him pretty good. I did. Yeah. Kid looks like a movie star. All right, let's go. I don't know if that's what was being said. What are you talking about? You weren't here. That's what he said. I was here. How did we miss the recording of this situation? I don't think I've... I've never put a request in like this when I'm on the road. Thought ahead night before. I'm like, oh my fucking God. I can't believe I'm going to miss that. Like, I was very, very bummed out. So I call Old Faithful Foxy. Foxy, I need GoPro in the corner. I need a fucking... even use the PTZ, need the handheld microphone on the SGA.
3:03:52Pat McAfee:We'll just figure it out. I need to see Ty walking in. What the fuck is that? I need, I absolutely need it. It took a little bit of time. I had it ready to go, and I was, like, anticipating it,
3:04:05Darius Butler:and it was going to be the best part of my entire morning. Ty didn't notice it because Bone faces forward.
3:04:11Pat McAfee:Ty's behind him. So it took, like, until about 1030. So the recording was over. Like, that thing was done with. and then Ty out of nowhere. He hit Bone pretty good with some nice comments. What'd you do?
3:04:24Darius Butler:I think his initial reaction was, oh.
3:04:28Pat McAfee:Oh, my God. See, I knew it. It's all right. Well, the best part was Bone said, last time I shaved just a mustache and you told me never to do that again. Kid's always got something, buddy. Always got something over there. He made a great graphic about Michael LaFleur's coaching. history timeline. I don't know if it got sent in ever, but he made a great graphic that we should show this. I mean, Bone really batting 1 ,000 this morning. This Mike LaFleur graphic that he made was certainly something we should have shown at the time, but I don't know if anybody got it. Hey, this is a good graphic, Bone.
3:05:06Yeah, that's on me.
3:05:08Pat McAfee:The LaFleur family says thank you for investing in his history. He was awesome today. He seems like a real psycho. Yeah, I like him. Yeah, me too. I like him a lot. AJ, what are your thoughts on old Mike LaFleur? I love Mike LaFleur. After coming on here and listening to him speak, yeah, he's very impressive. He seems to be doing all the right things. Even if they would have lost that first game and he would have came on or we would have seen him in a situation like this and hearing him speak, I think, yeah, all right, this guy gets it, and he is absolutely obsessed with football. Yeah, and he knows what it's like.
3:05:39Pat McAfee:We're in a week-to-week business. Seattle Seahawks can ruin everything here, and people will say that I should not have this job. And the Arizona Cardinals suck again. Yeah. If this goes in, we're hitting the next boost. Okay. Great graphic there, Bone. Way to keep working towards more door, Bone. But just shaving your face like that was... Yeah. He shut up at that Colts game.
3:06:04Darius Butler:Also thought he was going to a rock concert. I don't know if he knew he was going to a football game. I'm surprised Kenzie was able to stay in the box. She was? Have you heard? No.
3:06:13Pat McAfee:She said hello to everybody. Half-hour everybody. But him. Oh, no. Yeah. That makes sense. She loves the Halloween song, too. She loves that. It's not Frankenstein, huh? He's getting there, though. Keep going, Bone! And I think we are good friends for doing this. Yeah. I'm pulling that, too.
3:06:33Darius Butler:The best.
3:06:34Pat McAfee:Not the way that you do. Oh, no. Don't call it a roadshow. I haven't seen someone eat shit like this back-to-back days in a long time. No, but we need to – Bone needs to continue to be motivated to continue to go to the door. We need to continue to motivate this guy because the path he's on, it's like we've seen movies about this, and I'm not going to say the name of the TV show. Full Metal Jacket? No, not like that. Good movie. I know a movie, too. What's that one? No, I'm not saying it. You said what I'm saying? Pat's talking about a TV show. I know exactly which one you're getting. The Goonies?
3:07:13You know what I'm thinking about?
3:07:14Pat McAfee:No, I'm not talking about The Goonies. It's a TV show. I know what TV show you're talking about. They use a crane sometimes. Oh, I wasn't thinking that. No, it's not that. It's not that either. Jeez Louise. That's a compliment. Brendan Fraser won an Oscar for that.
3:07:31Pat McAfee:That's not the one I was thinking. Okay. We're all on our... Hey, we're all on our fitness journey here. Let's not become fat asses this football season. Okay, all of us. AJ, you're the only person that remains the exact same seemingly. We got a long road ahead. This guy. And D-Butch, you're right. Yeah, sorry, D-Butch. Oh, my God. We need to not become slobs this year. Okay, we need to all hold each other accountable. D-Bone, we expect you to hold us accountable in the same fashion we hold you accountable. Is he still going to Mordor, though?
3:08:04Darius Butler:Mm-hmm.
3:08:05Pat McAfee:Okay.
3:08:06Darius Butler:Yeah, I saw him. He was walking to Mordor yesterday.
3:08:07Pat McAfee:Okay, we like that. Nice.
3:08:09Darius Butler:Hell yeah.
3:08:09Pat McAfee:Proud of you, Bone. Needs a beard and mustache.
3:08:13Darius Butler:Mm-hmm.
3:08:15Pat McAfee:For the time being. We learned. He'll come back. He'll come back soon.
3:08:20Darius Butler:It's not just him. I can't shave. None of us. Yeah. Yeah. But, you know, that's why you don't see me fucking coming in here clean shaving all the time.
3:08:29Pat McAfee:Bone's learning as he goes. Yeah. He's a kid. He's a young kid still. National champion, too. He's got fun. inside there. I told him, I said, hey, if it means anything, come in here tomorrow and get a permanent marker and fucking color her neckbeard. Next boost is going to hit. Next boost is going to hit right now. If this goes in, we are going to win. Oh! Good throw. Good ball. Alright, what's this one for? We're doing a giveaway? A lot of giveaways. Yeah, I was going to say, you just give a shitload of money in Texas. A lot of money in Texas. 1.2. A lot of people say, hey, a real nice write-off.
3:09:05Pat McAfee:Yeah, give money to a college kid is a write-off.
3:09:08Darius Butler:That'd be cool if it was. Tax experts. What happened, by the way? I was confused. You guys did another kick in the stadium? Oh, yeah, so Tito, like actual Tito.
3:09:19Pat McAfee:For Tito?
3:09:19Darius Butler:Yeah, no, Tito's vodka.
3:09:21Pat McAfee:Oh, Tito's. He's a Texas alum.
3:09:24Darius Butler:Yeah.
3:09:24Pat McAfee:Yeah, he's a Texas alum in Austin. I guess he's a massive donor to Texas. saw the kick and i don't know 30 minutes before game started because remember time thing i didn't you know we almost missed it matt garrett uh from college game day goes hey tito wants to do a million dollar kick with uh connor in the first quarter sound good i was like is tito he is tito alive and they're like oh yeah tito's very much alive and tito loves texas saw what happened earlier once put up a million dollar donation for connor he's got two kicks if he makes one $500 ,000 to building tomorrow. $500 ,000 to Central Texas Food Bank.
3:10:02Pat McAfee:It'll be in a timeout in the first quarter. And I was like, yeah, sure. This is just wake up. I'm being told this. So I get over to the little production room we had in the beach volleyball locker room. Nice. Sick. Sick. They got a nasty big ping pong table in there. And I go, so what's going on? They're like, Tito wants to give a million dollars. I'm like, is Tito going to be out there? They're like, no, Glenn Powell's going to be out there. I'm like, okay, Glenn Powell's going to be out there? that's okay so it's me glenn pal connor who else that will probably have some content people with you it'll be the third time out first quarter i go okay where am i going to stand there we'll come get you then a guy named drew who's from texas fueled ops great here this guy got a lot of moxie he goes tito's going to give a million dollars he's also going to give 250 000 if you missed both kicks so make sure you say that please it's love comma tito's is the foundation if you could just kind of get that in there somewhere i'm like you got it so then we roll over the other side Glenn Powell and Miles Teller come down.
3:10:57Pat McAfee:So I was with Top Gun. Yeah, that's sick. Rooster and Hangman. Yeah, they were together. Yeah, they were together when they come down the sideline. I'm like, Miles, good to see him. He's filming right now. Okay, so I think we got something sweet potentially coming from Miles Teller, but he was watching a game with Glenn. So then Glenn and I are figuring out what's going on. I'm like, I think you should start, right? Don't you think? And he goes, yeah, what is this? And I go, good question. Okay, so we got Drew here. We're about to walk out. It's like, I'd say 15 seconds away from third timeout, first quarter about to happen.
3:11:28Pat McAfee:And then me and Glenn Powell figuring it out as we go, go out there. Perfection. Glenn Powell's an absolute beauty, a pro. And then Connor made it on the first kick, 35-yarder. They backed it up to the 25. He hit a fat ball this time, too. It went through. I think this kid could actually be a kicker if he practiced. He got real pop. He hit that thing. Yeah, and this one he hit fat, and it still went through from 35 yards. So that's like hitting a terrible kick. And it got first try in the stadium. Obviously, they showed the video. I think this kid could actually do it. At Texas? I don't know about at Texas.
3:12:02Pat McAfee:Maybe. Locustest kid in America. I think they got a kicker at Texas. I think they have a good kicker. But he went to Park Tudor High School here in Indiana. He was Indianapolis. He was a soccer player, free kick taker for the soccer team, though. So, like, I found they tagged him in an Instagram post. I go to his Instagram. One of his photos is him about to line up for a free kick, and I go, this fucking guy's a ball striker. Like, this guy's an actual ball striker. And it was obvious. I was so happy for him. How about before it even goes, I'd like to donate half of this thing. That was cool. That was sweet.
3:12:31Pat McAfee:Yeah, it was awesome. He was very nice. Yeah, he was very kind. I mean, I tried to tell him, too. I thought he was a righty. So I told him, hey, you're going to aim at that right post, and then it's going to come back because you're a soccer player, right? He goes, yeah, I go aim at the right post. So then as Matthew McConaughey's talking, I'm learning he's a lefty live in real time. And I want to tell him, like, aim at the other upright. And Matthew McConaughey says, we're going to hit this southpaw with the draw. We're going to be aiming at the left post. And I'm thinking to myself, Connor, Connor knows that I was talking about the left one in real time.
3:13:04Pat McAfee:Then he pulls that thing. And I go, that's maybe why the second one happened. Because I'm like, it's fucking, this could have been my fault. Him with that second kick, I mean, it was like. Drilled. pure pure yeah barefoot pure end over end kick 1.2 million Matthew McConaughey chirping in your I mean it's this kid might have it actually something to think about I think he loves his time down in Texas he has like a really serious degree he's about to get but AJ I love this guy stepping up in a big way it was expensive obviously especially with Dan Lanning hitting for the cross bar yeah$500 ,000 there but I love they made the kick I think it was a uh a beautiful moment to kick off the kicking is easy contest for the year no he looked like he got that ball up and out quick i mean i i know i told you i had some some people that have some prominent positions in colleges universities around the country that were texting me saying they need this kid's number to possibly come kick for their team yeah and obviously that's kind of said in jest but not really like if you can make this kick we assume you could probably make some kicks that matter obviously college kids aren't going to be perfect ever at any position as they try to develop and go through life and handling different situations and not just kicking position but literally every single position but this kid had a great start and obviously he's getting a lot of money donated and a lot of money tip so that's over uh so six hundred thousand dollars to building tomorrow which is an indianapolis foundation that does schools i believe in africa and then there's another 500 500 000 coming from tito so that's 1.1 million to building tomorrow and then 500 000 to the central texas food bank and then 500 000 to the dan lanning cancer 550 000 to the sumay
3:14:54Darius Butler:there's there's a there's a name i think it's sumay it was oh we tweeted it anyways to a cancer
3:15:03Pat McAfee:Foundation. It's like over$2 million in donations from one Saturday morning. Sam Day, sorry. Sam Day Foundation for cancer research out there. It's like, that was a hell of a Saturday. That was an awesome Saturday. Super positive. It did feel like the football gods were telling me Texas. You know? I was shocked. Did I pick Texas? Yeah. I know. I put this tweet out that I was 100 % picking Ohio State. And some people go, would you put this out if they didn't win? It's like, yeah, I would have. Because my entire thing is the north, brother. Like that is kind of all I have. But that morning, it just felt like a special.
3:15:40Pat McAfee:It really did. It felt like a pretty special day down there. Hot as fuck. But it felt like it was the turn of something special. Now, granted, Ohio State, certainly early there looked like they were about to say, fuck all of that. First three quarters. How do you guys feel over there? How's Ohio State people reacting to what happened down there in Texas? You know, they're not too pumped, but I think they still know. Long season, let's Let's make sure we're playing our best ball at the end of the year. Where did AP put them at in the ranking after losing to Texas? Six, I think. See, I think that's – It's all right.
3:16:09Pat McAfee:Yeah, I mean, obviously – Did you say 1-1? Yes, it did. Foxy. Judas. Used to be one. Now the first one of the next five. Yeah. Yes. One of the second. The first one of the second tier five. Right. Which, you know, obviously makes sense. It makes sense. None of those rankings matter, except for the above average poll. Happy that made a return today. Okay, if this goes in, we're going to hit our next boost. Okay.
3:16:40Darius Butler:Okay. Nice. First time. Maybe like plus 150. Maybe all the boosts.
3:16:47Pat McAfee:Just for the rest of the season? Yeah.
3:16:54Pat McAfee:That's a lot of boosts, I think. Yeah. We've done a lot already. not a lot of games have happened really at least four and two let's go lads this is for all of them all the marbles all of them sorry boys that's right let's get out of here be a friend tell a friend something nice it might change your life we're in this thing together i'm so sorry i had a moment right there for all of our future selves all of our future selves could have just been kind of just casual and just free and easy but instead we're gonna have to sweat it out every time i still might have you try to get in tomorrow that's true is that how it works doing a boost tonight i don't know what the rules are but
3:17:39Darius Butler:it feels like there aren't any i think i try to get tomorrow oh so it's college sports pretty much and we should probably nope nope i was pretty happy that i wasn't a part of that second yep i was like that's going the record i was pretty pumped not to be over there because boy
3:17:59Pat McAfee:that was that was i think it really did was it 45 minutes or did it just feel like 45 minutes it was a thousand degrees in there i will say and you had me des and kirk up on the set just huffing the air conditioning underneath the stairs or underneath the desk just like well I don't know if this message is landing. I don't know, man. I don't know if they're hearing it. You know, I don't know. I don't know. People are not happy. You know, from my understanding, and we're learning this in real time, I think we're pretty young in our careers here. I think we're pretty young in this entirety. So there's a lot of learning lessons to be had.
3:18:39Pat McAfee:But anytime, no matter what your intent is, no matter what it is, your intent can be pretty pure. Your intent could be probably very reasonably explained, what your intent is. Anytime a politician gets involved, we're learning this, we have learned this. You're just immediately, every decision that this person has ever made, ever, in the history of everything. Oh, is that right? You want future generations to have a dream and a goal for fitness aspirations, and the head of Disney, the head of ABC, and the head of ESPN are all here. and the government wants to get behind it and have a presidential fitness test and maybe make this something special.
3:19:20Pat McAfee:You obviously give away$1.2 million for a kick on a Saturday. You don't think maybe a future fitness test for like the next 20 years, 30 years would be something that I'd be very inspired to do for the next generation to be fitness and win a bunch of money and have goals and aspirations to stay in shape and do that thing. You know, that, that was my intention. Okay. Like that, that was, that was what I was thinking honored to even be like, i mean you got a lot of disney abc espn gumpy myself okay so like that was in my head what i was doing lo and behold though every decision that was made by president trump because i that was my intention i agree with i guess is everything that he has ever done in his entire life in this entire thing.
3:20:09Pat McAfee:And that is not how a majority of people feel, but it is a significant portion of our society at this stage in 2026, where if you just, if you have an idea of what this is for, even, and I will say I was pretty oblivious to the reality of the situation in this, because once again, what I thought I was doing versus what everybody ended up telling me I was doing is just so vastly different. But I think that is something that is just very real. And I believe I'm not 100 % sure, but I believe everybody on college game day was like, this isn't really, you know, what it should be. But I don't think everybody fully understood just how bad it was going to go in real time, you know, especially with how hot it was.
3:20:55Pat McAfee:But that's the reality of the business. Like, we have learned that, and that has been a lesson that has been very loud and will continue to be loud because in the politics world, the politic pundit and the politic accounts on the internet and the political people you know it's life or death every single decision that has been made for them which is I understand because politics has actual sway on how people's lives are going to go so that's how they act so there's no like hey we think the Protect College Sports Act would be good for college sports as a whole there's a what a 60 commissioner everybody that is in the sport and around the world of college sports likes this.
3:21:32Pat McAfee:So we would like this to be something that is topical and maybe get a vote done so that the future of all college sports is in a much better place and a safer space. But what ends up happening is, what did Ted Cruz vote for on this? Is this what you're, this is what you're, this is what you're, this is what you're, this is what you're. And it's like, I don't know if anybody's even hearing what he's saying. I think they're just thinking of things that he's done in the past and immediately saying this is what it is. And that's what 2026 is. I think that's the world that we're in. And, yeah, I think everybody's kind of just kind of learning and experiencing as we go here what it's like.
3:22:07Pat McAfee:Boy, those political people, they get really mad really quick. Oh, yeah. And I'm like, all right, I get it. Because we're just trying to do sports over here. But then you bring a politician in, and it's like, well, now you're associated with everything that that person's done. And I don't think I fully understood that until that is really what is now. You know, because I've learned a lot about myself and how I feel about things from a large portion of people telling me that. I'm like, what the fuck, man? I wanted to aggro crag, bro. I just wanted to fucking aggro crag for these kids. That's what I that's what I wanted, man.
3:22:42Pat McAfee:You know, and it's like, no, that isn't what you wanted. That is not what you wanted. Let me tell you what you actually wanted. And then it's like, you're the worst person of all fucking time because I'm like. all right i just wanted kids not to be fat so's uh we will take that into consideration going forward and hopefully this will be something that ends up working out long term but you guys are having a politician on yeah i'd like to not be uh i'd like to not be near that because i don't have enough time to go through everything this fucking guy's voted for and uh that's that's just on me not being able to do that i got you know we got a lot of football going on so i wasn't the only one that was like, I don't want to be, can you not have, what would I add?
3:23:28Pat McAfee:Ted, awesome. Get me the fuck out of here. Reese, I think handled that about as good as, you know, but it wasn't like game day was like, Hey, we should do this. That needs to be said. Like game day. Wasn't like, Hey, we would like to do this. That was something that was pretty chaotic situation. I would say the night before I would say Gumpy, is that how you would describe it as it was kind of rolled into discussion?
3:23:52Darius Butler:Yeah, it was quite a turn of events at a nice dinner we were having. It ended pretty abruptly there.
3:23:57Pat McAfee:Yeah, it was a nice production dinner happening. I loved it, getting around everybody. It's great to see everybody. It's fun. And, you know, obviously Matt Garrett's sitting in the chair now cutting, which is huge for all parties because of how awesome he is. And we walk in there, and he's just sweating. It's like, you all right, buddy? This is a good setup, dude. You got a good food in here. We all have to figure something out here. And I'm like, oh, yes. and then kind of wait for everybody to come in and then all of a sudden it's okay so this is what has happened and then all of a sudden you got ideas from everywhere and it's like oh yeah i like this and where we landed was you know reese is a journalist reese countered a couple times in his questions but not enough to the counter's liking so i believe there is now naacp president coming on to espn today or tomorrow to kind of showcase what that is because that's a whole another angle that then gets started it's like okay you gotta be able so what I'm gonna say uh from this moment forward I am gonna be as vigilant as possible to stay the fuck away from all that because uh unless we do it all but whenever it comes to that aggro crag in the future I am gonna have to make that happen yeah because of what everybody said to me about this entire thing so that is goal going forward that little Midas will have an opportunity to potentially win like a million dollars because he's an absolute beast now granted we hope that is with any administration going forward but in real time with where we're starting obviously people don't know if that's the case and there's a lot of people talking about what our demographic is and who our demographic is i don't think you fucking know i i don't think you have any idea what our demo is because we literally just try to be sports and uh we haven't been perfect with that i think game day if you had to go back, a lot of people would say, yeah, right.
3:25:49We should not even come close to that.
3:25:51Pat McAfee:But I do think we are all just trying. Our intent is always for the good of sport, for the good of everything. But there's not a lot of people that care about intention, unless it's the NFL and Jared Goff's trying to throw that to you. Yes, that's right. Well said. Be a friend, tell a friend something nice. It might change your life. We're in this thing together. I learned so much about me while they were saying such mean things. I'm like, is that how I don't fucking feel? Who said I said that? then you got those little fake quote counts like hey yeah this fucking guy does this did you hear what he said about this it's like i never said what the fuck said that can somebody community note this thing no they actually don't have it on this platform okay so how many people saw it five six million is anybody gonna tell them not that that's not real good luck out there man okay let's just not do that again and that's kind of where we're living yep Football.
3:26:46Football.
3:26:47Pat McAfee:Football. Football. And other sports if they're doing cool shit. That's right. Mostly football. Football. Baseball is cool. Baseball is going to be good come playoffs. But football. And there's basketball, obviously. We love basketball. Baggy ball. Football. Football. We won the World Cup. What? The basketball. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. No, we're fucking done with World Cup soccer. Yeah. I'm not even going to. Next World Cup, we're not even talking about one time.
3:27:14Darius Butler:Kevin Sullivan's cooking. He might be the one.
3:27:17Pat McAfee:Did you see him? He's 18 years old. He's on a one-way trip out of the MLS because they negotiated. He better be.
3:27:21Darius Butler:Because the MLS.
3:27:21Pat McAfee:Man City. He better be. I don't give a fuck about a kid who's the next Wunderkin playing in the MLS. Leo Messi. He's fucking 40. And he's the best player in the league by a long shot. Get this kid to the Premier League and then perform over there. And then we can get excited. He's really good. He had two goals the other night. Back heel. For the union? Who are they playing? The fucking Montreal, Quebec? San Diego Padres. That's not their name. The Padres are a baseball team. That's South Dakota.
3:27:53Darius Butler:That's San Diego.
3:27:54Pat McAfee:I don't think South Dakota. That's when does San Diego have an MLS team.
3:27:57Darius Butler:They're two years in. The High Flyers? Yeah, they are High Flyers. That's their name? Yeah. Jesus. What? San Diego FC, man. This league sucks. Yeah. No shit. We've known this. I know we have. Okay. This league sucks. And I'm done with it. We got Methy. I know we have Methy. They even fucking play. What are the goddamn playoffs? He doesn't give a fuck. These fuckers have been playing for fucking 18 months straight, the same season. Trying to get on the same damn schedule as everybody else. Is Bobby Boanga playing? Bobby Boanga is struggling right now. Yeah, exactly. I'm out. Fuck it.
3:28:32Pat McAfee:So we're doing football. Football. The real football. And baseball. What about football? No. Football? Yeah. I tried. I don't give a fuck. Be your friend, tell your friend something nice. It might change your life. We're in this thing together. Hell yeah. Team on me. Team on three. Football, baby. Football. One, two, three, team. Goodbye.
