Key claims / notable examples

- Rams offense: Matthew Stafford and Davante Adams produced 195 yards and two touchdowns after Puka Nacua was ruled out.
- Giants: Jackson Dart suffered a sprained MCL after a “sandwich” hyperextension; reports said he wanted to return, but the team removed his jersey/helmet. Jameis Winston’s performance was criticized as “terrible,” and the offense struggled after Dart went out.
- QB trend: multiple teams dealing with backup QB usage and injuries; examples include Drew Lock/Seattle, Sam Darnold’s potential return timeline, and Alec Pierce’s re-aggravated heel rehab plan.
- College: Reese Davis calls Trinidad Chambers the best college player; Ole Miss can win the national title because of Chambers, while Florida’s “Swamp” environment makes Ole Miss’s win uncertain.

Football! Today is the absolute greatest. Congratulations to the Los Angeles Rams who start their season with a win. Congrats to them. From everybody I talk to around the Los Angeles Rams, I think they all just said, you know what, Australia just didn't happen. okay let's just act like it didn't happen let's move along we got a learning lesson from it coach mcveigh came out and called himself a dumbass with the plans in which he had for the australia game but if you chat around there they're still very much in favor of their team being great this year they still very much believe in their roster they know that miles garrett although he's not playing right now whenever he gets back he's only going to add to a defense that was able to stop the run last night pretty well against the new york giants team that we were all talking about becoming maybe the most physical or maybe the most dominant team in the nfc as a whole the rams matthew stafford went back in time did some shit that he did in the past and speaking of going back in time the time capsule was not only just matthew stafford it was also devontae adams who was the number one wide receiver the number one option as puka nakuo was ruled out with some hip tightness and devontae adams on crazy he talked to scott van pelt afterwards and he said you know uh just like a shooter gets hot early you start making some catches some high outside catches all of a sudden you know things start rolling 195 yards coupled tuds davante adams on back on top of the world and matthew stafford looked a lot better than he looked down there in australia now whenever you think about the los angeles rams defense aaron donald coming back that's a huge deal right certainly is he had three tackles tackle for loss i believe he got in there he chatted afterwards about yeah it was perfect first game back and then he even mentioned like you go back and look at some of my other stats first couple games he's like you know we're trying to get into it all i I like the way he was seemingly defending what happened.
1:50Pat McAfee:And also, I think he knows exactly where he wants to be, when he wants to be. Him coming out of that tunnel, getting introduced last. Now, it wasn't filled up. And you've got to remember, 5 o 'clock game. Yeah. 515 local, 520 local game on Monday in Los Angeles. That's a tough place to travel, obviously, with the traffic. So people were filing in literally as the game was kicking off and a little bit after the game kicked off. But the pop for Aaron Donald was huge. When he came out for the early warm-up period, there was people watching the cameras were absolutely insane you're talking about maybe one of the best players maybe the best player to ever play defensive football when it's all said and done i'm happy to see he didn't have his dauber down even though he didn't have like five sacks six sacks which i think we all potentially thought could happen afterwards he said i'm right where i want to be got a chance to see less need i like that he's just stressed out through games even whenever they're doing well that was fantastic to watch and witness in the los angeles rams entire operation so hospitable now for the other side of the coin man jackson dart getting hurt again and i know this is something especially this injury because this seemed like a freak just incredibly unlucky disgusting sandwich hyper extension sprain mcl on the knee now it was being reported last night that he wanted to go back into the game obviously he walked off they had to take his jersey and his helmet from him because they were scared he was just going to go on there and sub himself in whatever they didn't want him now there's obviously conversation about how many games will he miss even though he wanted to go back on the field last night i think he is constantly trying to prove to people that he is not an injury guy or a fragile body guy i think this particular injury right here very unlucky i don't know how that is something he could have avoided maybe step up in the pocket maybe make a better decision earlier but that hit happening where it happened how it happened disgusting stinks and for the entire giants simply took the wind out of their seats big time yeah and james winston came in he's played a lot of football he's played a lot of football and you know when he was back with the tampa bay buccaneers okay it was way back okay let's go way back in time he the reason why we liked him then now now we like him because the things he says are just electrifying but back when he was playing for the bucks that's why we liked him we liked him because he would have that type of throw then the next drive he would come out and throw a 70 or 80 yard touchdown then the next drive he would throw another interception then the next drive it would be like an 80 yard touchdown it was jamis winston football was kind of Carson Wentz football, but it was actually at a historic level.
4:11Pat McAfee:Most amount of interceptions, most amount of pass touchdowns. It was something that we'd never seen before. Then we find out that Jameis Winston was actually blind. He had no idea what was going on down there. Made a lot of sense because he would see a group of people, I think, and he would just throw it in there. Had no idea if it was his team or the other team. It was ending up in somebody's hands at a historic record pace. Last night, saw him throw a pick. Didn't see much else. It wasn't a Drew Locke situation when Drew Locke comes in and seemingly just picks right up off his bodyguard and just kind of gets going obviously marcus mariotta is going to be playing for the washington commanders and then tyson bajant is going to be playing maybe potentially we'll see for the chicago bears when ben johnson said he's going to miss some time then he said we don't know if he's going to practice but he still might play next monday night we're already seeing the backup quarterbacks in a pretty big way here don't like it don't love the trend that's happening but last night i don't think there was anything anybody could have done to avoid that neighbors gets a little bit banged up and on defense aside i think we should show our respects a little bit.
5:07Pat McAfee:Javon Holland is having an absurd start to the season. Last week against the Cowboys does a sliding cradle catch right off the ground. And then last night has interception and peanut punch out with the recovery on top of it. I think there's some good shit coming out of the Giants still. But boy, they looked a lot different than week one. And so did the Los Angeles Rams. Good for them. I think they think they're having a 16 game season. You remember when Sugar Shaw and O'Malley lost that fight because his foot dropped foot or something and he just didn't count it he said that just doesn't count feels like there might be a mindset amongst rams fans and potentially around the rams are like yeah it happened but not really let's get back on track they lose that game i think there would have been some worry but the way they played last night i think all rams fans are like this this is who we were this is what we will be and we're only going to get better as people get back on the field talks the tables here at Boston Connor and at Ty Schmidt.
6:01Pat McAfee:Ty, I guess the expectation in Deshaun Watson, NFL winning quarterback in 2026. After week one, he came out. He wasn't fixing his earring with a $100 ,000 bracelet on and a watch while saying something that people didn't love hearing. But he did say something like, yeah, media wants me to throw five touchdowns at 400 yards or whatever. I don't think that's what media is wanting. I don't think we just want to have some successful football. He does this entire thing. Whenever you think about Jameis Winston, backup quarterbacks, and what's happening around the entirety of the NFL, quarterback play going to be good, quarterback play going to be bad, quarterback play going to be the best, quarterback play going to be the worst.
6:40Pat McAfee:What do you expect from this season this early already? I mean, it certainly stinks that we already have multiple guys going down because listen, you mentioned it. We love Jameis. He was in the tunnel. They picked it up on the Monday Night Football cameras doing his goofy ass. He was doing it before the game. I don't think I think he had any idea the events were going to transpire and he was going to be playing two series into it. But, man, this game was unwatchable pretty much in terms of just it being competitive and being excited that we might get a good four quarters of football. You throw that out the window after the first two possessions, and that part of it really stinks because we get more blowouts, and that's not what we want to see.
7:20You worry about that being on primetime games, but it's still the NFL and there's plenty of other – I mean, the Rams look great. So you kind of take that with a grain of salt, I suppose.
7:29Pat McAfee:Okay, so the expectations on Jameis, we could have been comparing him to Drew Locke. The expectations on Aaron Donald, what were they for us, Ty, you think? You think I was thinking Aaron Donald, especially when he came out. Okay, he came running out. He looked fast. Cameraman trying to run behind him with his entire... I don't like, as somebody who has only been able to run out of the tunnel twice in my career, I think. Once in college, once in the NFL. I don't like these social media camera people running out of the tunnel. Okay? I don't like it one bit. You haven't earned it. I think you make the shot worse.
8:01Pat McAfee:Whenever we're all watching, I got to see something trying to catch up with Aaron Donald running back there. And I know your social clip is going to be lit, but it's like, let's just let Aaron Donald, the moment that he is, the guy played football his entire life, became one of the best ever, has done a two-year retirement. This is him coming back home basically onto the field. And it's not just him. We got somebody right behind them trying to run with an iPhone so they could get. It's like, get the fuck off the field. So sick. Yeah, I bet it's so sick. And everybody sees it. Not everybody on Monday.
8:33Pat McAfee:I mean, just get off the field. Okay? Like, that is, I don't love that. I do like the access that we have and the content that we have. But Aaron Donald has committed his entire life to football to have that moment right there. And maybe we should just kind of let him have his entrance. And maybe others have earned it as well who are in the NFL or getting introduced to a crowd of people before they go run their faces into each other. But nonetheless, in the entirety, I thought Aaron Donald was going to have five, maybe ten sacks last night. I think that was a little bit uncalled for. I think maybe those expectations were a little uncalled for.
9:02Yeah, maybe. I mean, but like you said, he is arguably maybe the greatest defensive player of all time. I think I didn't think he was going to statistically dominate. I was just expecting like, well, we'll feel his presence. And we certainly did, even though we talked a lot about, you know, going in hardball and bully ball and all this stuff. And the Giants offensive line being much better. so I didn't expect him to come in, wreck shop, and have five sacks. But, you know, I mean, we felt his presence. Like, it was evident that Aaron Donald is back on a football field.
9:30Pat McAfee:Hembo stats, Connor. I don't know if you saw this. We got stats for everything. Oh, yeah. Aaron Donald's average get-off last night,.75 seconds. That's 13 % quicker than his career average. What? .86 seconds. Yes, shout out to NFL. Next-gen stats, nine-year NFL vet. Darius J. Butler, you see that. Wow. Aaron Donald's better, faster than he was two years ago. Maybe it was just load management for two years for Aaron Donald to start the second half of his entire career. I mean, my mind's blown right now. I just can't even imagine just – Oh, I kind of did that last night. Yeah, I did see that. I wonder what the time was with that.
10:01I'm sure Hembo had a clock on that as well. But it was great. It was great to just see him out there. And honestly, for me, just for him to get through that game healthy. Obviously, we expect Aaron Donald to be great any time he touches the football field. We all talked about it. Arguably the greatest defensive player to touch the field with what he's put on. But, you know, being away from the game for those years and then coming back, I just wanted to see. I'm glad that the Rams stuck to the script as far as, you know, whatever play, the snap count they have for him. I think they said 30. I think he played a little bit more than that.
10:29But having that TFL and a big third down against Big Nodge and just getting through that game, I'm sure for him it was anxiety, it was some nerves getting through that healthy. He said, oh, I felt a little tired. But I feel like from here it only goes up. So this game, one TFL. Next game is a couple TFLs in a sack. Next game is two sacks, two TFLs. and I expect to see the Aaron Donald that we've become accustomed to. And then when Myles Garrett saw him walking around, no crutches, he looks like, you know, he'll be healthy soon as well. So that's going to be very, very ugly once those guys are healthy together.
10:58Pat McAfee:Yeah, and you mentioned Aaron Donald getting a big-time stop against Najer on a goal-line package. Do they not have Scadaboo? Scadaboo in the paint was our super boost last night. And for some reason, they're close to the paint. They got a guy who runs through actual buses, okay, and walls. That's what he does. Puts his massive head and puts it and runs. He does this football. This is all the time. Kickoff returner, he's running goal line package. He's scat back, goal line package. It's first down, he's running goal line package. Why the fuck do we not have scat? Sorry for that, for the muting there of five seconds of the show.
11:37Pat McAfee:I know that's not great. I have people that do tell me they're sick of that. I have a lot of people say, like, why is your audio drop on ESPN? And it's like, it's not a try. It's a swear. It's only like two words we're not allowed to say, really. And we sometimes can't do it. But whenever Cam Scadaboo is not getting the ball, what the hell are we doing? It feels like we started out good with these Superboos, but now they're almost working against us. And that was very evident when they got Naj out there instead of Scadaboo. We like Naj. We've watched Naj with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is a big man.
12:09Pat McAfee:So I guess just if you look at him like big guy, he should do it. Scadaboo is big back. That is literally, is this not what he was built for? Is this not what the entire thing is? We won't judge them entirely for seemingly attacking our super boost directly in this multiple case. But it was interesting that we didn't hit yet again. One half of the hammer, died. Cowboys, AP tone. I'm already starting to get it. I assume you are as well. We got to find one here. And last night, it feels like we should have. But yet again, we're on the wrong side. We're letting people down. I mean, as soon as Jackson Dart went out, that one was pretty much dead.
12:40I mean, emotionally, Scataboo was an absolute mess after that happened. His buddy went out. He does not have the capabilities to rein that back in and play football after that, so we were kind of done after that situation. But, no, they tried that cool little under-center toss right back to the back to Scat right behind him. That always works really well where they ran into each other, and then, yeah, they gave it to Najee. But once Jackson went out, and they don't have to respect what Jackson can do as a runner, that was absolutely dead in the water because Jameis, he could complete and do nothing.
13:12Pat McAfee:Yeah, it was tough for the offense for the Giants. Obviously, Javon Holland was trying his absolute best. I loved the way he played. Jameis Winston in the game because Jackson Dart has sprained MCL. Joining us now is a man who might have a little bit more info. Junior. We need better out of Jameis. That was bad, bro. Jameis, 32. We've seen his highs. You mentioned it earlier. I know we got Junior on, but I mean, I didn't expect Jameis to look that bad. He looked terrible. Terrible. We like Jameis as a guy. We like Jameis on the mic. I need to like Jameis on the football field again. They're going to need you.
13:45Just keep it afloat right now. It's a good team. It's a good brain trust on the offensive side when it comes to coaching. Jameis, you got to figure it out.
13:52Pat McAfee:They don't have a third quarterback. Only two quarterbacks. So if Jameis was to go down last night, Scadaboo might be on the center. And I'll tell you. It might fare better. We have no idea. Well, that's right over Aaron Donald. Yeah, then Donald's probably actually getting into work right there. Pat Ricciardo quarterback. He is gigantic. He wasn't in the game either. That's weird. So, me and – there was a part of Monday Night Countdown last night that – an idea that was pitched, you know, because Stephen A. joined the show. It was nice to see Stephen A. It was my first time seeing him in person in a long time.
14:22Pat McAfee:He has, obviously, residents out there in L.A. It was good to see him. I congratulated him on his political punditry. Yeah. And I asked him how that world is. That has to be terrible. Every time I get thrown in there, it is the worst time of all time. So I appreciate that. And obviously how many years he's been around. But Desk only has so many seats. There was an idea me and Jason Kelsey would just kind of walk around warm-ups and just kind of report on what we're seeing. Okay. We were in there. I mean, these field passes were part of the thing. I mean, we were just walking. I mean, Jackson Darks are in Pat and Go, and I'm just like sitting two feet away.
14:54Pat McAfee:Jason Kelsey, obviously, first ballot Hall of Famer. A lot of people say a lot of stuff about Jason Kelsey on the Internet. that the guy might be the greatest center in the history of football. So I think he's probably allowed to talk about football however the hell he wants to because he's one of the greatest to ever do it. It's his sport more than it is yours. So I think that is something that's very fascinating with Jason Kelsey. People forget he is because he does do some of the gimmicks. Sure, yeah. So he likes to have a good time. Why not? So I think people forget this is greatest center of all time, Super Bowl champion, and also electric to be around.
15:24Pat McAfee:I don't think anybody's ever been around him and say, hey, this isn't that good. but we're sitting right in the Giants' warm-ups. We didn't know if they were going to come to us or not. Patrick Picard walks up, says, what's up? It's like, you just forget. Thibodeau walks by, like right by us. What up, dude? Nice to see you, man. Holy shit. Arvel Reese. Absolute monster. Scadaboo is literally like a commercial fridge, like a little meat, one of those meat freezers. Deep freeze, yeah. Yeah, Jackson Dart. He's thick. They are gigantic. Let alone Naj. They are a huge football team. Is that going to help them down the stretch?
16:07Pat McAfee:If they can stay healthy, will that be something that will later in the season be a benefit for them? Joining us now, junior NFL insider, man who might want to see more of Jameis just like you. Hell yeah. Ian Rapoport. Again. Again. These insiders. Where are you going, man? Perpetually in the car. You try to find a place that you can drive through that has no service. We appreciate you doing that for us, but is that what's going on here or what? Well, no. So I got to go into the city for Peter Schrager's show. Big day. Big day with Peter Schrager. And so this is my time to go into the city. Now next week, I could leave an hour earlier, if I get a good heads up, and I could be in a studio doing this.
16:52I could be in Schrager's studio doing your show.
16:54Pat McAfee:No, we would love you. Wow, you're very clear right now. I don't know where you're at. This is a beautiful picture of Ian Rappaport here. You're doing well, by the way. A lot of moisturizer. It's certainly paying off. And we love big day with big trades. Breaking down all of the big plays. And certainly with you going in there. Big play last night is Jackson Dart just getting hit in a sandwich style in the worst possible part, potentially the outside of the knee. Sprained MCL. There's reports coming out, I believe, during the games. it was reported that Jackson Dart was trying to get back on the field.
17:27Pat McAfee:They had to take his jersey off him, had to hide his helmet from him. He was playing blues clues to try to find his helmet. They said, sir, we'll take your jersey too if that's how this is going to be. Now he's going to potentially miss some time. What do we know about Jackson? How much of last night was real what we were hearing? And how much is real about what we're hearing about the future for Jackson? No, I think that was real. I mean, he didn't take his jersey off until basically they told him, take your clothes off. And they did have to hide his helmet. He did, you know, would he have run onto the field?
17:58I would say probably not. But the mentality is pretty clear. Wanted to be out there with his teammates, wanted to play. Smart of the Giants to not even think about letting him play. I mean, obviously, you know, you want to protect him for this year. But the hope is this is a guy who's going to be your quarterback for like 15 years. So protecting him at all costs is important. Sprained MCL was the initial diagnosis. is he's going to have an MRI probably a little bit later today. I remember he came in last night at like 4 in the morning or something like that because they were in L.A. So we're going to have an MRI later today.
18:30The hope is it is a few-week injury. You know, is that 3 or 4? That's what a lot of these MCLs are. I think that would be a great scenario. I would say it doesn't seem from the outset like it's a major significant injury, but you probably are going to see Jameis for a couple weeks, which, you know, like you guys said, And I was, I mean, God, it is hard to be a backup quarterback in the NFL. And I think that was a good example of that last night.
18:55Pat McAfee:Yeah, but he's been a backup quarterback in the NFL for a while now. So, like, the reason why he has this job is because he's a good backup quarterback. Backup quarterback is a very difficult position. We've talked about that ad nauseum. You don't get any reps. During practice, you are expected to look like every other team's quarterback. You have to be able to run a bunch of different offenses. You have to be able to answer questions for the quarterback. You have to go speak for the quarterback to different position groups and to the coaches. you're a lot of different jobs when you're the backup quarterback and oh yeah you're gonna get dropped in with zero warm-up boom you're in there right now it might be the biggest play of the entire game so i'm not saying backup quarterback position is an easy one they do get paid very well and they're not always called upon they're not always called upon great job yeah it's a great job if you can get it jamis has had this particular job for a long time so i think we all absolutely like this guy just like when we're watching preseason games and we have a veteran quarterback playing in the third or fourth quarter, it's like, oh, this person's going to be able to at least operate an offense.
19:49Pat McAfee:That's what we think with veteran backup quarterbacks. We're seeing it with Drew Locke right now, which pivots to the next question. Marcus Mariota in Washington and also Tyson Bajan, who just got a four-year$16 million deal, I believe, because they think he could be a good backup quarterback. In those two situations, what are we looking for long-term and have any of those answers come yet? Okay, so we'll talk about the Jaden Daniels first. He's still going through opinions to try to make sure he does the absolute 100 % right thing. And, you know, the fact that he had a similar injury last year, they're going to be cautious anyway.
20:23Obviously, they're going to go through opinions anyway, but you just want to be absolutely sure. Marcus Murriott is expected to start. I would expect him to start multiple games. I don't think that would be a surprise to anyone. I think the biggest decision for the commanders is, does Jaden Danos go on injured reserve? Hopefully not. Or does he have a chance to come back in that four-game window? Hopefully. You know, that's sort of the – if he did, he'd probably come back with a brace on his left arm, which is, like, not ideal. But your friend J.J. Watt played with a brace on his arm for years and is going to the Hall of Fame, so, like, I think he'll be okay.
20:59Yeah, it's the end. But, yeah, I would expect to see Marcus Mariota for at least a couple games. And, you know, good fit has acquitted himself well when he's been out there. So I think they will be okay. As far as the Tyson-Bajan one, you know, similar situation, although you hope not as many games. Certainly seems like, you know, Caleb is unlikely to start this week. I don't think that's a surprise. Next week, we'll see. Two to four is generally the, you know, diagnosis for these kind of hamstring pulls. Okay, we're showing the video again. That's not nice. But I would expect Tyson-Bajan to go out there and play well as well.
21:38Pat McAfee:What do you mean we're showing the video? Yeah, this is him whenever he's rehabbing his hamstring. That was a good take, D-Buck. Yeah, smart. I didn't even think about him being so forward-thinking that he already knows that the road to recovery can start right now. And he might have been getting stimmed, too. We don't know. Every second counts. And maybe because of the rain with the stim, he was going through real pain, which is why he had the towel over his head because the water was obviously – you know, it's kind of simulating through his whole thing. So we appreciate that he was getting – and on that note, a ripped or pulled hamstring sucks.
22:08Pat McAfee:That hurts very bad. There's a reason why they say, like, sniper got him. Because when a hamstring goes, it is debilitating out there. That's what it looked like. Yeah, but I think, like, I think him, you know, like he's going off to war. You know, it's like he's going off to war. He just came back. I love that part. He made some good internet. Great. They're being mean to him, but. I'll tell you what, the internet's been mean to a lot of people these days. Yeah? Okay, and they just, you know, charge it to the gate. Only the best people. Thanks, Rap. Thanks. I see what you're doing right now. Let's not do that.
22:41Pat McAfee:Let's just continue to talk about Caleb here. If Caleb comes back within the next couple of weeks, I will be very impressed because he was clearly very injured. I mean, that hamstring dragging, it obviously hurt. He was rolling around in pain on the ground. It clearly hurt. I don't think you get that type of pain unless there's some real damage done. I don't think that happens. So I would assume that there's going to be some recovery to this. But anytime you're talking about the muscles, you know, you rush those back and you're an explosive athlete. Then you're just dealing with that maybe for the rest of the season.
23:14Pat McAfee:So they're going to have to be very careful with that entire thing as well. Absolutely. I feel like since he's been in the league, if he doesn't start this week, this will be his first missed start. So he's a guy that, you know, we always talk about how important it is to be available as a quarterback. And he's been pretty available. I feel like as of late, for sure, he's been running and using his legs more. He looked faster coming into this year. So I hope he does let this heal. I hope Tyson obviously can keep them afloat. He is a good backup quarterback. You talked about how tough it is to be a backup quarterback.
23:42Yeah, but you're a pro, and I think he'll be ready, especially in this offense. I think Ben Johnson will have him ready. But yeah, absolutely take your time. But speaking of quarterback, backup quarterback, starting quarterbacks, Drew Locke, he's been playing great. He's got the Seattle Seahawks 2-0. JSN coming off a hat trick. But been some good news in the Sam Darnold camp. What's the latest update with him? Yeah, good news, I would say. You know, the question now is like, will Drew Locke start again? And I would say that is a maybe I would say somewhere between possible and likely, right? I mean, missing two starts was probably the good wheelhouse for Sam Darnold.
24:19But what's going to be interesting is does he practice this week? I was told there is a chance that he gets out there late in the week. And if he practices this week, I would say sort of similar to the way. Oh, my God, why is it so bumpy? I would say similar to the way it was with Michael Penix last week and Brock Bowers last week. If you're able to get out there on a Friday, generally that means the next week you can go play. So I think Darnold's coming sooner rather than later. But, yeah, it might be another week of Drew Locke, who has played just awesome for these Seattle Seahawks.

24:49Pat McAfee:That's why you've got to strap in the car seat. You've got to have really tight straps. For you, they should have both on you there for your size and stuff. I don't like the shoulder harness, but I respect it. I respect the harness. Could you imagine you coming over to the Thunderdome one day, and then we go to lunch and we pick you up, put you in my daughter's car seat? All right, move your legs. I would do it. Boom. You would do it. All right. Deal. Cool. When you come back to service, yeah, you've agreed to do that, so we'll put you in your car. Oh, no, man, mom. That's what it sounded like.
25:27Pat McAfee:We'll get you a juice, dude, or milk. We'll get you some of that. We'll have an iPad on for you to be able to watch K-pop. We'll get you really dialed in. What's that? No screens. No screens. Just conversation. We can look at each other. It'd be great. Oh, you're dad of the year, huh? You're the one that's deciding? Well, my kids are also 11 and 13, so we're way past that. Yeah, of course. And they're around you, so we understand that. We certainly appreciate that. Let's move along, shall we, here in NFL conversation. Go ahead, Ty Schmidt. Rapshi, what's the latest on Alec Pierce? We heard he re-aggravated the heel that he already had surgery on.
26:03He's elected not to have surgery. He's just going to rehab it. Which? Yeah, not great. He said he might be back midseason, but this just doesn't sound good at all for him or the Colts. What's the latest there? Yeah, I mean, the phrasing you used was right because elected not to have surgery and is going to try to rehab. That's basically where he is. And, you know, the hope is it goes well. The hope is he's back midseason. but like there's definitely no guarantee it's not good it's basically re-aggravated injury that he had surgery on and a lot of times you have to have surgery again he wants to play because he is a dog as you know um and he wants to be out there so he quiet i uh apple watch uh he wants to be out there with his teammates we'll see if it works um it's it sucks i mean i'm i would say this like for the Colts it sucks we'll see when he plays again yeah if he plays again I'm glad for him personally that he got paid because that is a very good thing what'd you say if there you meant
27:04Pat McAfee:this season this season yeah just you know when you when surgery is a possibility and you elect to rehab there is always a chance that it just doesn't go great yeah have we ever heard a situation where it's like yeah right decision not to make sure not to have surgery nope I don't think so right wide receiver down at the saints what happened who was it michael thomas michael thomas that was an entire offseason right that came into a thing brian jensen offensive lineman uh there was another one there's been a lot of decisions i'm making's out a year where he played with a torn acl that's a different type of cowboy though no no i like no i like to hear that answer actually with so the surgery was on the table and he played through it yeah but he didn't take time off to rehab to hopefully do what surgery would do i think he played with the torn acl for either the majority of season or the entire season yeah but i thought it was 10 plus games yeah he had a torn acl but got surgery after season right i well so i don't i don't want to i don't want to do a whole like uh i could counter that to make sure my point is still right he was playing through it logan yeah yeah alec pierce is trying to do rehabs for something here to make uh do something that a surgery would be able to do instead of playing through it like that whole entire thing he's taking time off to rehab i have 100 faith in the indianapolis colts medical team i'm a big fan of theirs but i i anytime i hear surgery's an option and then no we can probably rehab it too i am a huge proponent of hey we should do if the surgery's the thing we should know that that's the thing like that is the state of science that we're in for that particular department orthopedic and sports and all this shit it's like the advancements in that have come to a way if that is i don't know i'm not talking for anybody else i'm saying if i was alec pierce and surgery was an option can i still get back if he gets surgery is he out for the year yeah that's the question out for the year yeah so okay that makes a little more sense okay okay maybe he is okay i like that maybe he is trying to fight through it and maybe he isn't a bad walker you know what do you mean maybe what we saw with our eyes whenever he couldn't get up the hill and he couldn't walk on a flat surface when he wasn't practicing just a few weeks ago and we go What?
29:13Pat McAfee:And then we were told, he's a bad, he's got a bad gait. This guy's got a bad, he's a bad walker. Who said that? Source. Says. Close to the, I mean, we saw him at a softball game. Said, hey, what's up? You're the thing. Hey, watch how, it's okay with how I walk. Maybe not, though. You know, maybe, maybe, maybe it is obvious. And maybe I appreciate him playing through it and wanting to show up for his team. But, damn, did we do longer damage here than what we could have been. It is surgery. This sucks. It sucks. And obviously it's a part of the game. And like you said, I agree with you. I got full faith in that.
29:49Colts medical staff were definitely familiar with him. And it just sucked, you know, him having the year that he had. He goes out with an injury. You get paid. And when you come back, especially when you're hurt, like you still have that pressure to go out there and prove yourself, hey, you made this decision to pay me. And I'm sure he checked every box to get up until this point and then to get out there on a primetime game. I think he had already had a catch. He's already obviously going to be a part of the game plan. And then for him to go down like this, just the mental part of the injury, it just sucks for a player to get to this point.
30:18Now you have to kind of start back at square one. So I do hope Alec, you know, figures it out. Obviously for him first and foremost, and then obviously for the Colts, you know, obviously one of my squad.
30:28Pat McAfee:Yeah, we would like to have our number one. That would be good, especially because we paid. Alec, good luck, dude. We know you've been working your ass off. Sucks. Absolutely sucks, all of it. We hope he gets back healthy. You know what else sucks? Atlanta Falcons question from Boston Connor. Yeah, Rapshields, go down to Atlanta. They have the worst football team, but the best sect of the internet when it comes to football fans and memes. They're batting 1 ,000%. They've already made funny memes about Penix overthrowing Drake London, but being pumped that they have a quarterback that can throw a ball over 20 yards.
30:57What is the situation and plan with Penix? Is there hope in Atlanta that this is going to completely turn the season around, that their offense is going to look better? I saw Cooper Rush has basically some of the worst percentages in the history of football through two games, but not all of that's on him. Without a doubt, that is a tough situation being the third string QB, not really expecting to start. What is the deal here, and what should we expect from Atlanta Thursday night in Lambeau? Yeah, I mean, you should expect it to be better. I mean, it should be better. Like, Michael Pennix, I don't know if Michael Pennix is a franchise quarterback.
31:32I think the Falcons hope that he is. He is certainly talented enough. if he could stay on the field the tools are there for him to be the guy i mean he was a he's a first round draft pick he was a top 10 was he ninth overall pick i mean he's a guy who should be a franchise quarterback and you know he is fully healthy now he has waited a couple weeks they did right by him to say we're not going to rush you onto the field we're going to allow you to decide when you are ready i think that is a good thing and he's got to play and he's going to hopefully play better. I mean, they haven't been in the red zone yet.
32:07It's not great. They've also been playing with a third-string quarterback. So, like, talk about hard is for backups. Cooper Rush was signed in July, you know? I expect them to be better. They got a lot of weapons. Like, this is a – it might not be the deepest team ever. They got some, like, skill guys who are really good. I think they should be hopefully a lot better on Thursday night, and I'm not just saying that because I hope we all get to watch a really good game.
32:31Pat McAfee:Yeah, we're all hoping for primetime games to be great. Falcons are on three of them. So let's go ahead and enjoy that. Stefanski, there's some stats coming out about him. Not good. That's not fair. Cooper Rush, Jack Strand, Jameis Winston. Who else did he have at Cleveland? Deshaun. Endure. But he did have Baker. And kind of. But I think Stefanski's just waiting for a time where he could have. He's praying to God that Penix. Oh, my God. Have you thought about what Stefanski is saying to the Lord above about Penix and how he plays? Oh, yeah. Oh, my God. This guy's been calling plays with the quarterbacks that he's been calling from Cleveland into this situation in Atlanta.
33:16Pat McAfee:He puts Jack Strand out there. Here we go. I think he actually said, from my understanding, fuck it. Give me Jack Strand. It couldn't have been worse. Jack Strand goes out there. Third down. Got an actually pretty manageable situation. Third and two. Hits guy to chest. Pop up. Pick six. Kevin Stefanski throws everything. What have I done wrong is what he's asking. They need some sage. Yeah, you need to get him some. They need some sage down there. Bad. And Stefanski, I'm hoping Penix goes out there and is everything you're looking for. Because if not, what? We got another. Right? Matt Ryan and he got a whole other.
33:51Pat McAfee:Oh, yeah. Matt Ryan's shooting up. We're definitely drafting somebody. How far away has Tua been healthy? Forever. He's calling it. Ladies and gentlemen, that's junior NFL inside. We don't know if that's true, obviously. We are just projecting our thoughts on what we have seen from him over the last three years. Two years. Three years? Two and a half. But once again, we are two of fans. Guy's been through a lot through ball. Been through a lot for ball, which we appreciate. Now just might not be the right time to have him as your quarterback. Ladies and gentlemen, Ian Rappaport. Thank you. Good luck on big day with big shrinks.
34:22Pat McAfee:Breaking down all of the big plays. Have they used that as the intro song yet? Not yet. Yeah, and I think they're mulling it over. No, yesterday, didn't they? Oh, did they? I thought so. I didn't get to hear it. I was kind of over there figuring out money in the county. If you guys hear it, say something. I thought I did. I think they should think about it, though, for real. What is their current Open? Peter Shrags. Peter Shrags. Breaking down all the big plays. Yeah, I think it is. I don't like that one. It's like a Spider-Man theme, yeah. All right, let's pivot away from Big Day with Big Shrags, breaking down all the big plays.
34:51Pat McAfee:Shout out to Junior NFL Insider. Let's go to the second largest sport in the United States of America, college football ladies and gentlemen joining us now the host of college game day football and basketball the epitome of professionalism ladies and gentlemen reese david you look handsome brother how you doing i'm doing great how are you guys doing today good thank you for making this happen from a car it's been a nice little car tuesday it feels like we've got a chance to take a few rides with rap now we're parked with you but we're parked in a great place because this has become one of our favorite weekly segments especially with how big this college football season is going to be.
35:26Pat McAfee:It's time for Reese's Paces from the Weekend. Reese, college football was electrifying this weekend, as it is every weekend. What are the big pieces that you think should be spotlighted a bit? I think the biggest piece, Pat, is I've decided that there's no stipulation, there's no caveat. Trinidad Chambers is the best player in college football. I've been saying maybe best quarterback. I still love Jeremiah Smith. This guy touches the ball every play. Ole Miss can win the national championship because of him. And as I was sitting here listening to Ian and you guys talk about the Falcons, they might have the first overall pick.
36:03I hope they lose their tape measure. Don't measure his height and just take this guy. He'll throw it down the middle of the field. We know he can move. And that hesitation move that you and I saw from the sideline when he just sort of stopped and dead-legged the guy and then continued rolling to the outside and completed a pass, to keep a drive going was there just aren't a lot of guys can do that. I think he's the best player in college football, certainly the Heisman favorite. Ole Miss can win the championship. And I'm not sure they get out of the swamp unbeaten on Saturday night. I think they've got their hands full, and they have to rely so much on him.
36:39That'll be a really, really big deal. Hold on, Reese.
36:43Pat McAfee:Hold on, Reese. Now let's dive into that a little bit more, because Pete Golding has been in the fire since he's become a head coach. I mean, they're talking about the amount of top ten opponents that he's had, and the amount of top 10 wins that he's had to start his career, more than anybody in the history of college football coaching. Have that huge win against LSU, as Rosenhaus would say. Now you've got to go into, what, a brand new swamp with Summerall in there. This feels like a dangerous, dangerous game for Ole Miss and a huge statement game for Florida. And in college football, that seems to be more real than any other sport maybe that we have out here.
37:19I think so. And I think that's exactly why Ole Miss is a better team than Florida overall. But that doesn't mean they're going to win the game Saturday night. It's going to be a cauldron inside the swamp. They're feeling themselves because they made a bit of a statement by beating Auburn on the road the other night, a game that I'm sure Summerall wanted badly because Auburn completely screwed up the hiring of Summerall. They could have had him as a coach, didn't handle it as well as they could have potentially, got fortunate that they still have a really good coach and Alex Golish. But, you know, that was an emotional win for Summerall and Florida, too.
37:56But I think they can build on it coming back home. They can really run the ball. Jaden Baugh is the best running back in the country. They run the ball a variety of ways. Offensive coordinator is a guy named Buster Faulkner, who has a background in the air raid. He's been with Todd Munkin at Georgia and then did his own thing at Georgia Tech before coming to Florida. Really creative run offense, and I think it's going to give Ole Miss fits and perhaps put a little more pressure on Trinidad to be really productive every time he touches it.
38:25Pat McAfee:D.C. for Florida, Brad White, former Indianapolis Colts D-line coach. Okay. Yeah, he was around me and D-butt, I think, five, six years with the Colts. Then he transitioned into college. He was at Kentucky. I think he was a couple other spots. Now he's D.C. for Summerall. Great football mind. Great human to be around. Oh, yeah. I would say great human to be around. It's not just Florida and Ole Miss, though. So conversation about the entire SEC Reese's Pieces. We had this come up in the meeting the other day. The SEC is 10-2 through so far in September against non-conference opponents in the Power Four.
39:01And if the SEC is resurgent, and I'm not quite saying that yet, you still have to win the championship. The Big Ten still owns the last three championships. There's still a lot of great teams in the Big Ten. But as far as September goes, if the SEC is ascending again, it's because they have got some young dudes at quarterback. And I mean dudes. Keelan Russell at Alabama makes a handful of throws in every game that you say, well, that'll play on Sunday. And then he breaks off, you know, a 57-yard touchdown run against Florida State when they need it. It's not just him. Saturday when we get to Tennessee, and this is the guy that's the least experience of any of them, but Faison Brandon at Tennessee is a really talented guy.
39:47Probably didn't play as well against Georgia Tech in terms of completion percentage as he has against their lesser opponents. Tech is going to be a gargantuan test, but this is a guy who can really make plays, both throwing the ball and on the move as well. and then a guy that I know you love because of his off the field hobbies, his toughest, Jared Curtis from Vanderbilt. Man, when he throws that thing, it comes out hot. Now, he did get rescued. He made a real freshman type of error with a late interception against NC State. But this guy has it. He's going to be really good and kind of keep Clark Lee's program going up.
40:27But the one that I know you guys have talked about, truth in the light, Cavario Taylor. I know Nick loves him, but I think the thing that's most impressive about him, aside from his physical skill set, if you saw that game early against South Carolina, threw a pick on his first pass. They didn't have anything going pretty much the whole first quarter. And then he comes out and hits 11 of 12 or something like that, winds up with four touchdown passes. He's big. He's strong. He's got every tool a quarterback could want. Only question I have, does he have enough around him? But this guy, man, he is – they have a lot of guys in the SEC right now that can be the difference makers and win games, much like Trinidad is doing.
41:12I'm not saying they're as good. But LSU is probably better at every position group, personnel-wise, than Ole Miss. Yet they weren't at quarterback, and it was enough to make the huge difference. and I think you've got an upcoming crop in the SEC that can do similar type things as they continue to grow and mature and improve.
41:33Pat McAfee:Kamario's sophomore, too, so he obviously has another year where he has to play. And with the modern NIL era... Ole Miss might give him$20 million. No, he couldn't do that. He couldn't do that. From my understanding, he couldn't do that. Unless his name was Kamario Kiffin. I don't think he could go from Mississippi State to Ole Miss. I don't think. from my understanding. But he is certainly somebody. I mean, Saban comes in after week one on our show. This guy is the truth and the light. And we go, wow, that's a great name for somebody. Then he described him again, and he didn't say that. And then he was like, then he got him the third time.
42:11Pat McAfee:He was like, hey, this guy, I would like to – truth and the light, this Kamario Taylor. I think Saban thinks he's – I think Saban's tagging him as Neo. He's unbelievable. Yeah, he is. He's saying this is the guy here. He's huge. He's fast. He can spin it. And obviously the mental toughness that you talk about throwing a pick on your first one and then going 11 of 12 after that. And their environments are special. I mean, down there in Mississippi State, they obviously got the cowbells. Everything down there is crazy. You're going to have to be tested. And obviously, can you survive long enough to get to the playoff to take on the big, bad boogeymen from the Big Ten?
42:45Pat McAfee:You know, that's the big question right now about what the SEC is. And then last thing from the Reese's Pieces, I think you saw something that all of us really didn't think we'd ever see in, like, actual football. You know the – what's that? The under-39 tackle football league? Yeah. Oh, yeah. 37U. You see this maybe in the under – yeah, 37U tackle football, mitts playing in that. You might see this in, like, Super XFL thing. Maybe – not even a CFL. Definitely not D1 football, Reese. No. I mean, the way – it might be the worst giveaway in the history of sports. I mean, I think teams were like over 1 ,000 and 0 or something like this until this when you had the ball in the lead with 10 seconds or less left on the clock.
43:34T.J. Bailey from NC State, the ball knocked away from him in the end zone. I feel badly for him. He's a good player who had a terrible moment. But, you know, NC State sort of stuck in this never world for years and years of being pretty good but not great and not awful. This is the kind of moment that can make you awful. I mean, this can be a program break. I had a friend of mine who played at NC State back in the day and was a longtime coach texted me right after that. And I said, you might want to consider putting the rest of the season into permanent lightning delay and just start over next year.
44:10I mean, it's terrible. And they've got App State who's undefeated this week. Those in-state schools love to beat the big brand schools. I could see this getting really sideways for NC State. It's unfortunate because they played really well. They played better than Vanderbilt on Saturday and then just had that terrible, terrible moment at the end.
44:33Pat McAfee:1 ,046-0. Yeah, 1 ,046. Now 1 ,046-1. Yeah, you're right. That might be the biggest giveaway in the history of sport. Okay, last question for you, Reese. comes from D-Butt. Yeah, Reese, I ask you every week. Now, a new AP poll is out, and I believe it's Texas, UGA, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, and then Indiana, and Texas got 58 of the 69 votes. It's my third week asking. It's been Notre Dame every time. Are they still the number one team on your poll? Hotty totty, D-Butt. Hotty totty. Good pick, Reese. Okay, is that because Trinidad, huh? Yep. It's because of Trinidad, Pat, and I think we also get to a point to where you've got to give credit for accomplishment.
45:18And Ole Miss is one of the few teams in the country. They had the big one against LSU. And, man, I really like what I've seen from Louisville, and they beat them too. Nobody else has two of those. You put that together with the best player, and that's why I ranked Ole Miss number one this week.
45:33Pat McAfee:You're the man. We appreciate you. That's another week of Reese's Pieces from the Weekend with Reese Davis. Thank you, Reese. The man Reese outside of a grocery store potentially. You know, going to gear up for another massive week. Maybe outside of a mall to go get another sweet suit. You know, he looks good every single week. What grocery stores are down there? Publix. Publix, maybe. What state? He's in Florida. I think he's in Florida. Meyer. Publix. Publix. Wegmans. Georgia, Florida. What's in Milwaukee? They probably got Kroger's up there. Yeah. Snooks. Aldi. Maybe some Giant Eagle's. So you're telling me that John Eagle or Kroger Is potentially feeding The MLB team With the best record in baseball That's what I'm telling you Ladies and gentlemen the skipper The manager of the best team in ball Friend of the program Ladies and gentlemen Not coach You'd call him coach I still don't get that shit Manager Murphy Murphy.
46:41Pat McAfee:I'm trying. You know, you coach your football team. I would have just called you coach there, but baseball, you're not a coach. So what is the – Mr. Murphy, how do I – what do I address you? You can address me any way you want, but, you know, in baseball they call him Skip. I don't – you know, I don't really care. Which I think is a part of the lore of the way you operate. And obviously massive conversation around baseball as a whole is what's the CBA, hey, what's allowed, what's not allowed? Well, it feels like the Milwaukee Brewers, best team in ball, have always operated in your own fashion.
47:15Pat McAfee:You know, you're never going to be at the top of the salary cap because I think you have to be potentially allegedly committing fraud to actually do that. But you guys actually build your team, it feels like. Whenever the farm system is talked about, how guys can come in and maybe contribute and be great and kind of come up through this system. Why do you think you have success doing this? Do you think it's because of your college success that development is a massive piece of the entire process? And how do you describe what the Brewer way would be if we were to chat about it? Yeah, I'm reluctant to say I have as much to do with it as I get credit for.
47:53But the truth is, you know, when you're operating the way we are, our ivory tower front office, whatever you want to call them, I call them the ivory tower. they understand where we're operating from. So we have to do more with less, and development becomes a big piece of it. And you have to have players that are willing to change and grow and be critiqued and make adjustments, have the awareness that say, how do I fit into this game to be a winning player? How do I fit? And that awareness and that responsibility, if you have the right guys. And then we just try to go out and win each night and try not to predict or complain or explain and just get after it.
48:40Pat McAfee:Your leadership style is obviously working and spectacular. We love that you're also an old football guy. Kirk Herbstreet has come out and said, it's more than baseball shit. I don't like it. There's no baseball IQ happening. There's no athleticism. There's analytics happening. Pitchers are getting pulled. We're not hitting for, like, to get on base. We're not trying to do baseball. We're just trying to hit home runs, and we're trying to gas people out, and then we're trying to bring in another pitcher to do the same thing. The way you guys play is not like that at all. Is your style considered old school for somebody maybe that didn't grow up in baseball?
49:13Pat McAfee:And are you guys that much different than every other team in the league? I don't think we are, but I hear it all the time from old buddies or, you know, guys in the game a long time. Hey, I love the way you guys play. hey, love the way you guys play. I don't. You know, like I look out there a lot of nights and I'm like, ah, that's ugly. But they, you know, we have standards of how we play and what our offense is about. But it's not too much different than anybody else. We just, we have to operate the way we got to operate, you know. We don't have an engine that's built, you know, with the best talent or the best money can buy.
49:55but we have to build an engine that operates a certain way and can accelerate at the right times. Yeah, I mean, I don't think we're doing it any different, but people seem to think we are.
50:07Pat McAfee:Yeah, the stats say you are. 73 more runs than anybody else in the league, not via a home run. Let's talk about the top of baseball's history, and you talk about talent, just a unicorn and alien. Tell me about the Miz, just on a day-to-day basis, what you've learned from him, the human, the competitor, and the pitcher this year versus maybe last year where he was just getting introduced to the world? Yeah, you know, it's beautiful. It's a beautiful story. He's a beautiful kid, first and foremost. If you watch his operation off the field, it's him, his fiancée, his mom and dad. And it's just beautiful.
50:45You know, like they're just this little unit. He has no idea he's the Miz. It's kind of Forrest Gump-like, you know what I mean? I mean, like, he's just being who he's being. He can't change. His fiancée is the same way. She doesn't understand he's the Miz. You know, and he takes it all in stride. The biggest difference is this year he's a great teammate. He's not looking to fit in. Last year he didn't kind of know how he fit, you know, and then seeing him respond the way he did at the end of last year and then going in the offseason and training the way he trained and got himself so much stronger, so therefore his delivery is so much more consistent.
51:24He still has got no idea what he's doing, but it's just fun, the maturation. He's taking that next step. But like I said, there's many more steps to take. He is kind of a freak a little bit in that his extension is so good, coupled with his velo. He's a great teammate, a great person. Yeah, it's kind of fun.
51:46Pat McAfee:Going to win the Cy Young? From my understanding, I don't have a vote. It sounds like you agree with that, and he should. What is he has, the top 100 fastest pitches in the history of baseball? I don't want to age you, but you've been around the sport forever. You said he's somewhat of a freak. It's like when you start seeing what he's doing at the beginning of the season, the amount of 100-mile-an-hour pitches, and then letting him stay in games. Seventh inning, he's throwing 100-mile-an-hour pitch. Is it interesting having to deal with this? How do you deal with this? You just move his scale as if he was, well, yeah, this guy's fastball is just 103 as opposed to somebody who's 99.
52:20Pat McAfee:We're just going to deal with it the same way. How do you manage that when the era of stats, analytics, and everybody worried about what the future holds? Yeah, I'm not worried about, you know, if a guy's going to break, he's going to break. That's just, that's how it happens. You try to do everything you can in his best interest to not do that. But we don't have a, we don't have a secret sauce of how to not break pitchers because pitchers are breaking all over the league. since the history of time, people are breaking. But they're out a year and they're back. We've really managed, I think, the best you can, Miz's innings.
52:58Yeah, he doesn't get treated any different than any other pitcher on our staff. We've got another kid, Henderson, that's had an incredible year that nobody knows about, but he's fantastic and just learning who he is. And, yeah, I mean, Miz doesn't want special treatment. He doesn't act like a superstar. He doesn't act like he's privileged. He's just one of the guys. This guy's awesome.
53:22Pat McAfee:Beast. He is. He's an absolute beast. Just having fun. From Kansas, right, from my understanding? He's from the baseball hotbed of Kansas. I think he's where he's throwing out of. And I believe he likes Pokemon cards. Maybe coach at the end for Cy Young, get him a nice Pokemon. Ty has a question for you about when we're going to learn about Henderson and your entire team in prime time. Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, Skip, I know you kind of have to be where your feet are in baseball and you can't really start looking ahead, but you guys clinched so long ago. I mean, it's very likely that you're going to be the top overall seed and have that buy, not have to worry about the wild card round.
53:56At what point will you start kind of planning for your potential series in the playoffs, whenever that may be, and kind of start moving things around in terms of making sure guys are going to have – your pitchers are going to have full five days rest. I mean, obviously you don't play that first series, so you don't have to worry about it. But also, you know, moving the lineup around, different, you know, like probables against pitchers, the team you play might throw out there. Like, when does all that stuff come into play, knowing you still have, what, six games left in the season before the postseason starts?
54:27Well, we've started that, you know, probably two, three weeks ago. We've started kind of – it's not coasting. I always say you can't coast uphill, but we haven't started that in terms of backing off. But as far as strategy and putting guys in situations, we've been doing this for a couple weeks, knowing that we're in good position, knowing these guys do come to play every night. Nothing's guaranteed, but we should get a bye. And then dealing with that five days off, there's people that will tell you it's the worst thing for your team, that type of thing. It doesn't matter if it is or it isn't.
55:07That's what we're going to do, and we've got to deal with it. The playoffs after 162-game season, it's kind of a crapshoot. If you look at the last 10 years, how many teams out of the wild card is in the World Series. So it's whoever's hot and whoever's playing right at the time. Ball bounces their way. They get the right call. All that kind of stuff can happen. Anything can happen. You know, I'm proud of these guys, what they've done in the regular season. Once again, third year in a row, we're not predicted to win the league. Third year in a row, you know, average wins were like 80, between 80 and 87.
55:41And third year in a row, they blew that away. And they just, they set their own expectations, their own standards. The playoffs are, again, it's a different animal in that it's a crapshoot. It's baseball. The reason we play 162 is you probably can't figure out the winner unless you play that many games because anybody can look good for a month or whatever. So, yeah, it's a little bit of a crapshoot, but we're really interested in doing well in it and going one step further than last year.
56:09Pat McAfee:I'll tell you what, if I'm at the craps table with you, I feel very good about it. So good luck in the playoffs, Skip. You're hiding that dice. And, yeah, we've got hot dice coming with Miz throwing that thing and Henderson. Good luck. We appreciate your time. Skip, I'm going to say coach there. Skip, I appreciate your time. Appreciate you guys having me on. Hey, you're the man. Notre Dame football pretty good this year. I don't know if you know. Fandy football pretty good this year. That's my good buddy Clark. Yeah. Fandy football very good. They got a six foot five kid who broke horses as their quarterback right now.
56:39Yeah. Yeah. He gets a little more experience. Careful. I like that.
56:44Pat McAfee:Your team's got a lot of experience. Careful. Ladies and gentlemen, Pat Murphy. Yeah. He's the man. Football guy. Yeah. Who is a stud, huh? Skip. Oh, yeah. He's going to win an L skip of the year again. Hour two on the other side. Be a friend telling friends I'm nice.

58:30Pat McAfee:Seventh all-time in the reception touchdown list. Congrats to him on having a remarkable career, one that started in Green Bay, and then it ended up in Las Vegas. Then he ends up with the New York Jets for a few games. Then he ends up with the Los Angeles Rams, and he becomes one of Matthew Stafford's favorite targets in the red zone. Then Puka is out of the game, and Devontae becomes the number one, and he goes for 195 and two touchdowns. This guy has a Hall of Fame career, Hall of Fame resume already, and who knows what's to come with him and staff and Sean McVay in L.A. As they know, an exciting brand of football is good for ball, but also an exciting brand of football is exactly what they're built for.
59:06Pat McAfee:The Talks tab was here at Boston Corner and at Ty Schmidt. Ty, you saw a lot of good times with Devontae. The creation of Devontae from early out of Fresno State. Fourth round? Second. Okay, second round pick because remember, wide receiver, Green Bay didn't select the first round wide receiver for like 100 years or whatever the case was. Second round pick out of Fresno State. Everybody talked about his release, and then he just continued to get better and better and better and better and better. And now he's become one of the guys they talk about as maybe a greatest of all time. Yeah, certainly one of my favorite Packers of all time.
59:34He had a very rocky start to his career, too. Kind of had an issue with drops early, and a lot of people were like, hey, is this guy, is he ever going to get on track? And then really once Jordy Nelson left, he just blossomed and became unstoppable pretty much the connection he and Rodgers had. And, boy, I mean, just every single time I watch him, I just wish he was still a Packer. I really do. What do you mean? He was just – he was so good, so reliable. And, you know, when Raj left, hated seeing him go to the Raiders and have that little blip where you could tell just like, man, this sucks. I hate being here even though, you know, I got all this money and I'm, you know, still catching a lot of touchdowns and performing well.
1:00:16But this guy deserves to be in the playoffs. He deserves to be on the biggest stage. He deserves to win a Super Bowl, at least play in a Super Bowl. So every time I watch him play, yeah, what I would do for one more year of him as a Packer.
1:00:29Pat McAfee:And he's hilarious. Yeah. So I can't wait to catch up with him. One half of the hammer, died. Cowboys AP tone. Maybe we should have won with Devontae two tuds last night. Yeah, two tuds would have been awesome. That would have paid out really well. But no, it was Scott, and they didn't give him any carries on goal lines. Why are they doing this to us? Detroit Lions. Okay. We need a bell cow. At least the Lions scored on those plays. The Giants got stuffed and had to kick a field goal. Yeah, but the Lions threw slants from the one-yard line two different times. Now, scored two touchdowns, obviously.
1:01:06Pat McAfee:Congratulations. You did it. But what you did was disrespect football and ruin our super boost. And once again, we are going to find it. We are going to find it. But when teams are making these types of decisions that we can never predict, and then obviously quarterback gets hurt early, everything changes for the Giants offense, I guess we should have maybe known whenever Scadaboo said he can't wait to meet Aaron Donald for the first time in the A-gap or whatever it was, we should have maybe not bet on Scadaboo. But I didn't know they weren't going to give him the ball down near the goal line.
1:01:34Pat McAfee:That's why the guy is on your team, he's Scadaboo. Now, I still have faith in the New York football Giants. I think they're a very large team. We'll see how long Jackson Dart is out. Jameis is going to have to do a lot better. But on defensive side, nine-year NFL event, Darius J. Butler, Javon Holland's having an incredible start to a season, like historic start to a season, actually. Absolutely. Giants fans, I know, are excited about him. They broke the bank, bringing him over big-time free agent signing. Didn't have a great first year, but he started off hot. Believe now, created three turnovers for his team.
1:02:00So as long as, you know, the offense can be manageable. And with that pass rush, if you're a safety and you have dogs, Burns got banged up, but you got dogs who are getting after the quarterback. That's going to put you in a position to make plays. But he's been great at punching the ball out. He made that unbelievable pick that we talked about in the show last week, and he was sliding along the sideline. I'm sure he's a great leader in that locker room as well. So I love what Javon Holland's been doing so far.
1:02:22Pat McAfee:Yeah, the Giants, I'm not completely out on them. No. Jameis needs to figure out how to play quarterback again. Yeah. I'll be eager to see who they try to bring in to get another quarterback because they only had two on the roster last night. From my understanding, source says, tell me Braxton Berrios would have been the quarterback if Jameis would have went down. He was emergency quarterback. Agent Zero? That's right. Agent Zero. I've been learning a lot about him and how he's operating life. Good luck to you, man. Just hope you just be happy. You worry about you. What are they going to bring in?
1:02:51Pat McAfee:They got to bring somebody in. I mean, Joe Flacco is currently, what, two at Cincinnati? Or is he three at Cincinnati? Yeah, so they're not letting him go. No way. No chance. Cincinnati lets him out. You got to go through the regular names. What's Phil Rivers doing right now? Diego Fabian. What's okay? Drew Brees. That's all Will Levis just signed with the Jets, so he's off. Okay. Was he in a practice squad or he's up on the – Practice squad. Okay, so you can definitely sign him. Jimmy G, you see out there. Jimmy. Absolutely. Mason Rudolph. Mason Rudolph has an opportunity to get signed right now?
1:03:20He played. He's on the Steelers, but you trade for him for sure. He played on Sunday, Tony. Hold on, though. That's not good.
1:03:29Pat McAfee:Anthony Richardson. Yeah, Tony Richardson. Anthony Richardson could be perfect for that team right now. Okay. Especially with how big he is, how fast he is. He runs. He can run the jack-to-dart. Yeah, you would definitely have to, and that's already been conversated about. I'm not saying that Indianapolis needs a full rebuild, even though we've paid a lot of different pillars because of how everything's going, but I do know that that conversation has been evolving. Anthony Richardson has been super professional, but allegedly there's been no teams that have had any interest. He might be. That might not be a bad idea.
1:03:57Pat McAfee:Go get nine from Minnesota. J.J. McCarthy going over there. He can run around a little bit. He is a Michigan man, too. There's a tie there. Narbaugh would love that. Yes, he would. Joining us now is a man who might have the answer. Big old brain. Huge dome. Yeah. College football national champion, Super Bowl champion, Ryder Cup winner, A.J. Hawk is here. Hawker, what are you thinking for the Giants? Obviously, Jameis Winston doesn't have his greatest performance, but maybe nobody would have against that Rams team. Congrats to McDuffie getting his first pick with the Los Angeles Rams. Your takeaway from last night, more Rams are back.
1:04:28Pat McAfee:who we thought they were or Giants oh no because Jackson Dart injury obviously sucks. Yeah, I mean they dodged a bullet obviously. Jackson Dart, hopefully it's MCL's situation so he's not out too long but I'm just thinking I cannot get that picture out of my head of Timmy Tebow sitting there with Peyton the boys, how jacked he is. I don't know Tim may be too, his arms may be too big to actually throw the ball now but maybe you give him a chance to go out there and sling it a little bit. Did you see what he did to that flag out there? The Broncos had him out here to celebrate mile high, and he's doing it.
1:04:59Pat McAfee:Yeah, you got it. And ain't supposed to plant that flag? See ya. Flag gone. Yeah, Tim Tebow's too strong for the flag. If he went up to the moon, wouldn't have been able to plant the flag because he would have been too strong. The flag would have been floating off into whatever planet we had at that time to put it down there. Tim Tebow said, what about the flag? Just not going. He's full of sweat. He is a monster. I mean, an absolute monster. And he's – the winds – and he just – he beats the flag. And that's Tim Tebow football. So maybe you're right. Maybe you're right. That's the picture I'm talking about right now.
1:05:30Look how big his arms are.
1:05:31Pat McAfee:Yeah, that's not AI enhanced. That's Tim Tebow right now. That's Tim Tebow. You don't think John Harbaugh could drop some plays for that guy right there to gain a yard or two alongside Patrick Ricard and Scadaboo? Leads me to this. They pull Scadaboo down at the goal line. What's that about? Why do we think we're doing that? Also, the poor tight end here trying to block down on Aaron Donald picked off by his own offensive lineman too. That's kind of tough duty you're pulling right there. Yeah, Malinoa likely on the block there. Chris Shula before the game, he joined us on Monday Night Countdown.
1:06:06Pat McAfee:Very thankful he joined us and talked so much. The way all of them were talking about Australia, AJ, was very funny. All of them were just like, bury the ball. 16-game season. 16-game season. What are we even – let's not even – now if last night goes bad, I think there would have been like a – Oh, shit. What's going on here? I thought we weren't playing the first game. I thought we weren't playing the first game. But literally from everybody we chatted with, it was like, we're not. Come on. So they want to shrink the game too? I don't know if they want to shrink the game. I think they would be pretty pumped if other teams were selected to go over there next time.
1:06:41Pat McAfee:Or maybe they go about doing it differently. Sean McVay, very candid at the end of his postgame presser. We got the right people. Yeah, I think, you know, sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. And, you know, sometimes you have a dumbass coach that, you know, makes travel plans that put you in a bad spot. There you go. Big pop out of the L.A. media after a huge win. I like that. But that is him. I'm sure he said that to the team. I'm sure he said that to ownership. I'm sure he said that to the fans. Now he's saying it to the media. He's like, hey, listen, I fudged up, guys. Okay, we shouldn't have went to the other side of earth 28 hours before the game.
1:07:17Pat McAfee:I thought we could all just be machines, stay on the same time zone, we'll all go to bed at the exact same time we'll wake up at the exact same time we even serve you guys breakfast as if it's morning oh on the plane everybody has those plans but then you know humans take over you know dice game start maybe some cards start maybe there's some drinking hey we're supposed to be asleep right now okay yeah all right sweet then they get exhausted that group they fall asleep everybody up we got breakfast on now those guys tired on plane because haven't been able to get a full sleep even though they're still on plane trying to stay on the time so i I think there is a human versus machine aspect and theory versus reality aspect that potentially comes into play here.
1:07:56Pat McAfee:And I think Sean McVay learned that in real time. And every future team will also know that if they have to go to, I don't know, China or... Better not. Japan. Just a matter of time. We've got some good fields. Saudi Arabia. China's got some good fields. With rocks, all those are on the page. Outside the Great Wall. Remember, there was a super flag football game that was coming to Saudi Arabia. Whoever's got the biggest check. Whoa! Tony! It's for the good of the sport. But Sean McVay, very candid there. I think he was telling the truth. And also he told the players this. And I think all the players have the mindset of like, let's just not even.
1:08:31Pat McAfee:Let's start this thing. Actual 16 games. There's only been one team that's gone undefeated. Yeah, I mean, regardless of what the result is of week one, obviously we know we've got to move on. But you look at that division, you've got two undefeated teams, two one-on-one teams. Like come week 18, you know, that one game could come and bite you in the ass when you're looking at a division like that and a conference like that. But you move on. It's a week-to-week league, and you're just trying to get healthy and play your best ball, and we talked about it. This has kind of been Sean McVay's mindset with the preseason.
1:08:58Let's get my guys to the season healthy. Let's start playing good football. They played good football last night. Obviously, it was unfortunate for Jackson Dart to go down, just kind of took the win out of that building for the Giants. But I feel like the Rams all around played a good football game offensively and defensively, so I'd love to see that. I'd love to see, you know, Sean McVay cracking the guys up, taking some ownership and moving on.
1:09:18Pat McAfee:Yeah, I had a chance to be in a very cool suite last night. We saw. Yeah. We did see. And what you saw me doing in real time there was big announcement. Wayne Gretzky's going to be on the show next Wednesday. Hey, that's literally me typing into a calendar. As soon as he said, I got Philly Pitt next Wednesday or whatever. We start the season on TNT or whatever. I'd love to come on the show. He starts next? Next Wednesday. Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins. Like regular season? Yeah, next Wednesday. Dropping the puck, boys. Drop the puck, guys. This guy took two weeks off. I know. This is the hockey culture, bro.
1:09:52Pat McAfee:That is the reality of it. Don't tell Albert Breer. Dude, it was – we're doing the – that's a deep cut, yeah. I was very lucky. And then Russell Westbrook, obviously, in there. Got to celebrate him. DeMar DeRozan. Jason obviously came up. It was cool. That's Waino's wife right there. And then their son is on the other side. Trevor is on the other side there. It was nice to meet everybody, hang out with everybody. in the Cronky suite up there. Got a chance to talk to the Cronky family about buying the Angels. Congratulated them in a big way. But literally that exact shot is me typing in Wayne Gretzky into the calendar saying, yes, literally in real time.
1:10:28Pat McAfee:So then I open my phone and I just see that we're on there. I'm like, great, great news. Everybody gets to see it. But Wayne-O, incredibly kind. Saw us doing a Monday Night Countdown show. Sends me a text. Crazy that Wayne Gretzky texts me. I will say that forever. I will never get used to the great one texting me. have him saved in my phone as the great one as you should just because whenever that pops up you have to have that happen he texts me i think do i see you down there on the sideline when do you take a day off question mark and then i look down i see the great one like wow this is awesome yeah man never trying to get in where i fit in brother that don't disappear he goes you need to come see me i'm like you got it so i get invited up there by wayne gretzky uh obviously get to do that third quarter go have a couple waynos and diets sure you know a couple Buffalo traces and diets up there.
1:11:16Pat McAfee:It was chicken parm sliders up there. Yeah, dude. That's a good gimmick. I like this. Sweet gimmick every week. Yeah, it's pretty absurd how this whole NFL thing is kind of gone. Yeah, no big deal. Did you get Russ on the show? I compliment him pretty good. It was nice to see that he did not. Yeah, I think he knew of the existence of us. I think he did. DeMar, I believe they knew of the existence of us. They were certainly having their own convo. So, Wano was, we're talking one story after. I think that was his first time being around Jason, although he's a big fan of Jason. They know each other.
1:11:51Pat McAfee:And obviously our first time really being, having a couple cocktails. Wano was batting 1 ,000 last night. Of course. I mean, on fire last night is how I would describe big pops out of everybody. You know? And then I ask him, I say, so they just bought the Angels or whatever? He goes, yeah, man. They asked me if I wanted to run it. I said, no way. You know, you got to have to pay me at least 100 ,000 toonies. Huge laugh, man. Like, he was just, it was one after another. I was like, this guy is incredible. You can see why everybody loves him. And then, obviously, his wife and boy were just super.
1:12:27Pat McAfee:It was, it's been really cool. It's been really cool, these Monday Night Countdowns. Now, you know, it's fun to work with a brand-new group of people from ESPN. Always. You know, it's always fun for a brand-new group of people to, you know, meet them, them meet me, you know, the entirety of it all. The boys on set, love them. Absolutely love them. What an honor it is to be alongside those guys. They are actually phenomenal. You know, and watching Scott Van Pelt, he's been a legend. I didn't like what Swagoo did there. I didn't like what Swagoo did. That's good, sir. Yeah, it kind of woke me up a little bit.
1:13:01Pat McAfee:Did you see this? Hey, Jay. Oh. Huh? That's a pretty good swim. Watch exposing your ribs. You don't need to swim too high. You know Kels is good. He'll get you right in your ribs if that arm gets up too high. Yeah, I said that immediately, actually. I said, man, it's going to get me in the ribs there. But you see me turn my cowboy boots sideways so I can dig into the turf. You've got to turn that thing sideways, get in there. And here, I thought I had them. Honestly, when I left my feet, I thought maybe I'd be able to wiggle through there. But they were talking about how you need double Aaron Donald.
1:13:27Pat McAfee:Tell me what you saw from Aaron Donald last night, AJ, and what is realistic expectations? because I think I, in my brain, have Aaron Donald as a superhuman. Like, I see – what's that thing from the Avengers? The Hulk. The one that – Thanos. Thanos. That's what I see when I see Aaron Donald. I see Thanos. Like, that strong Grinch, just every – you know, whatever he wants to do. He got trained with knives, and he's considered one of the greatest of all time. and for his size, he's been able to manhandle grown-ass men for a long time. So when I saw him come back and thought of him coming back, in my head, we got 10 sacks coming.
1:14:07Pat McAfee:We got pancakes taking place. Then Jason Kelsey's like, well, that's never going to happen. They're going to double or triple him. And by the way, last night they were – there was a time where he was triple teamed at one point and a couple other guys got in there. The Giants understood who Aaron Donna was. What was a realistic expectation we should have had coming in and how do you see his first night and how it went? I think Ty mentioned it earlier. You definitely felt his presence. The New York Giants definitely knew where he was at every single time he was in the game. And I think it was a great showing for him.
1:14:34Obviously, he gets through the first game without any kind of soft tissue injury or whatever. That was something that I would worry about coming off from the two-year layoff and then working his way back in. But can you imagine how dead his legs had to feel after the first two drives he is in? No matter what you do, no matter everything you're doing, you didn't go through the camp with the team. I give him a ton of credit for playing as well as he did, honestly.
1:14:55Pat McAfee:Yeah, I can't wait to see what he ends up doing for the rest of the season. The Rams back on track in their 16-game season this year. It's not a 17-game season. It is a 16-game season. And they got old-ass dudes balling. Old dudes. Senior citizens. Absolutely going crazy. Last night, we took a trip back in time. Devontae Adams goes for 195 and two tuts. This man has a Hall of Fame resume already, and he's only piling on top of it. ladies and gentlemen the man the myth the og now devontae adams yeah how are you man good i'm doing great how you doing man good when did you know when did you know so as soon as you hear i assume you guys knew about puka before we did publicly or had expectations on what puka was going to do with the hip when did you know like it was going to be a night like you walked over to us when we were doing the circle thing a cypher looking conversation and you were obviously very calm very cool did you know you're about to have a historic night or how does that kind of start happening for you i mean i was i was in the mindset that it was getting ready to happen but i mean you never know you're about to have a 200 yard game you never you never quite just know that because it takes so many things so many different things so many different people in order for something like that to happen uh but i mean i had the mindset that i was ready to go out there and and play my ass off that's for sure yeah you had some ridiculous catches right before half obviously we missed the kick so can't talk about it but that just an absolutely ridiculous catch your first touchdown absurd because you get blindsided as well fight through that and then your celebration absolutely filthy and smooth tell me about staff tell me about the offense and tell me about australia and how you guys view that because a lot of people i was talking to they're like yeah fuck that game dude like we got a 16 game season that was just a that was a terrible showing by all of us in all departments.
1:16:49Pat McAfee:We are moving forward. This is what our season is from here on. Is that what it felt like to you guys in the locker room? And tell me about how last night was compared to Australia. Yeah, I think across the roster, it's a lot of fuck that game for sure. I don't think too many people are trying to think about that when I remember anything that happened out there other than the coffee, some good coffee. I'll tell you that. I had some coffee out there. I'm not even a coffee dude. but they got it going on as far as the coffee world. Now the travel, getting out there, taking 24 hours to fly there and all of that, whatever it was, not as big of a fan of that part of it but at the end of the day, it is what it is.
1:17:29I think it was a blessing in disguise because, you know, it definitely fired us up and got us ready to go for Monday night. We got quite a few primetime games this year so we know we got to lock in and go out there and handle business on Monday night, and we went out there and did that. So it's step one for us. It looked awesome. Go ahead, AJ. Yeah, I guess as far as your head coach, Sean McVay, we see the guy seems to have endless energy. He's juiced all the time. He sounds like Gruden a lot of times when he's speaking. I guess what's it like day-to-day with him? Is he always the same dude? And what has he done for you, I guess, your game schematically?
1:18:04And how has he helped you? Well, he's helped me a lot just because I don't think I've ever been able to connect with a coach the way that I can with him. He's the ultimate player coach. He's he's he preaches. I mean, he leads the hell out of the team, but he also preaches that player led teams are the most successful ones. So we do the best that we can as leaders, as captains going out there, trying to just take as much ownership as we can. And then obviously, you know what a brilliant football mind he has and the way he can kind of the illusion of complexity is what he calls it. how you can get out there and, you know, run similar plays, but dress it up different and just giving guys different opportunities to go and make plays and highlighting my skill set, which is what you saw last night.
1:18:48And, you know, everybody just knowing how to use all the guys. You know, they talk about the big game for me because it seemed like it was, you know, a random one to go out and have 200 on a Monday night when everybody thinking you're an old man, like when you were calling me as you introduced me here. but uh but at the end of the day you know i i do think you know seeing seeing the talk about the og seeing you dapping you up some of the guys i got to hang out with pre-game that fired me up too man i don't don't think it didn't so um but yeah it's good it's good to get out there and have a game like that like i said you never really know you're gonna have a 200 yard game but my mind is always set for that and and uh you know i prepare to to go out and have those type
1:19:28Pat McAfee:of games yeah i mean i've been retired for like a decade now and anybody that was playing when i was still playing and now you know at this stage nothing but respect i mean you know i could barely get up off the toilet some mornings and you're out there hi still at this stage so when i call you an old ass obviously that's a compliment you know i appreciate it yeah thank you very kind words there's no old professional athletes that are actual ass you're just old asses you know yeah old as hell yeah old as hell yeah i got you no old ass i'm saying ass too but old as hell is also playing in there.
1:20:02Pat McAfee:There's no Hall of Famer that played old. No ass players are making it. How old are you now? 33. Jeez Louise. We've still got another 10 days. In a few months, 34. You can go ahead and call me old if I can go out and play young, so I don't mind it. Make it 34. You beat Jesus. We'd also like to say happy birthday. Happy birthday to you. D-Bud has a question about your old-ass quarterback. Nah, he's still in your prime. It's going to be about the quarterback as well, but your game, your evolution of your game, obviously the catches are great, but I think everything that happens before the catch is kind of what separation makes you one of the all-time catches, releases, the route running, the timing.
1:20:48So about that, how did that evolve in your game? What did you do in the offseason there? How long does it kind of take to get on the same page? You played with some of the best throws of the ball ever. Aaron Rodgers, obviously Matt. Derek Carter college team is good as well. But how long does it take to get on the same page with those guys? Well, I mean, you've seen with me and Aaron, it was, you know, it was different levels to our connection. It started off, you know, my rookie year where I was just trying to get in where I could fit in, you know, make as many plays as I was able to make. And, you know, I wasn't really asked to do the things that I'm asked to do now, or, you know, at the height of things in Green Bay.
1:21:24So being in a position now where I come to a place where, you know it's a brilliant mind as I said and Sean who's trying to highlight all my you know my strengths and obviously releasing out the ball and and doing those things is is one thing but like you said being able to get on the same page with a guy like last year we didn't really have much time to get ready for the season I think we literally our first time working together was obviously we had a little bit of time in OTAs but but right before the season the the week of week one is when we were first got together and it took us some time to kind of work through things midseason, which obviously is not ideal.
1:22:01But just as time goes by, the more reps, the more live reps you get together, you just learn each other's body language, picking up on small subtleties that we understand. Obviously, the details are what allow for games like yesterday to happen. So it just took a little bit of time and understanding each other a little bit better. And you get products like what you saw last night. And he's been doing this for almost 20 years now. So it's nothing new to him. But like I said, just on the flip side, just like I got to learn him. He's got to learn, you know, my body movements, understanding what it looks like when I'm getting ready to set an indicator and take it high or am I going to sit it down and, you know, come underneath and, you know, try to beat him on a flatter on a bench route versus taking over the top like the toe tap when you saw.
1:22:45And it's just so many different things you got to do. And I wish y 'all could see all the work. Honestly, one of my favorite things would be if the world could tap into practice tape and see what we're doing and just watch. You know, that way you can really know who your favorite players are just based off the way they work, the way they talk football, the way that they think, because I'm a very cerebral player, as you guys know. So some of the stuff is the footwork, but I think most of what makes me me is what's between the ears. And, you know, a guy like Matthew is the same way. And I think having a guy like Aaron early in my career was one of the biggest blessings because I don't know that I'd be as detail-oriented and locked into, you know, the small things that make the big picture is what I am now.
1:23:27So I say all that to say I've been blessed to have some great quarterbacks and great people around me to put me in some good positions. And, you know, I'm just here trying to maximize it as much as I can.
1:23:36Pat McAfee:You said I'm pretty cerebral, believe it or not. And then you described the nuance of what a route could have been three different ways. And then also you saw this one is over top. And Matthew Stafford has to see that in real time because this is how I'm going to get wide ass open if he just kind of rides with me here because I'm reading the guy. Incredible work by you and audibling. in real time but that is why you've been so dangerous now matthew stafford you talk about old as hell he was drafted 221 picks ahead of me okay in the same draft he was number one i was 222 uh he he was given a guaranteed contract he could have bought the entire city that he was drafted to but he's been doing the i was i was able to get a cadillac escalade if you do recall that almost got repoed because that did not hit the bank account until about 30 days later and uh That was certainly a fascinating time in my life.
1:24:23Pat McAfee:But Matthew Stafford has been Matthew Stafford, to your point, for three decades. Connor has a question about that. Yeah, Devontae, to that point, what makes Stafford Stafford? You know, it feels like, you know, Rogers, who you used to play with, he gets kind of put in that upper echelon, that pantheon of quarterbacks of all time. But Stafford, over the last few years, has started to become someone that people talk about as one of the greats in the history of the NFL. From what you've seen over the last 18 months since you've been with the Rams, What makes him one of the greats of all time when it comes to throwing the football?
1:24:55Well, to be honest, I think we'd be talking about him as maybe the greatest quarterback of all time. You know, the tough part about being a quarterback in this league is so much of, you know, your success and how good you are, how legendary you'll become is based off of winning. And obviously you start in a place like Detroit where, you know, they weren't winning at the rate that the Rams have been since he's been, you know, here since what, 2021. You know, if his whole career had been here with a guy like Sean, yeah, they'd be saying, is this guy literally the best quarterback that's ever played?
1:25:24So so winning games obviously helps a lot of that. And you look at I just always respect the guys that can do it consistently for a really long time. You know, there's guys that flash and I think the NFL community, all the fans out there, they always want to crown a new king and find a new toy. but at the end of the day the guys that can go out and do it continuously for years and years and years you know when when guys have a whole bunch of tape on them and understand what they'd like to do what their you know small little nuances that make them good but when you can still go out there and manipulate defenses the way that he can you know the the no look the deal that he's got going is just like he uses it it's like a legitimate tool for him it's not like it's just something he brings out from time to time it's something that um you know i've never seen any quarterback play with their eyes the way that he can and I've talked about it a lot and I feel like people may be getting tired of that but at the end of the day you got to understand how dangerous he really is and some of the small things that he can do just like that playing with his eyes to hold that safety and you know be put me in a position of where I can you know toe tap that on the sideline like that's that's something small and maybe would get lost you know where people aren't really realizing they just say oh great ball they don't understand you know the reason why that play worked was because he held the safety for so long and then delivered a perfect ball to the sideline so you know like aaron rogers this guy's just so detailed and so cool too it doesn't matter what happened before he's gonna find a way to to lock in and be ready for the next play so i got a lot
1:26:54Pat McAfee:of respect for that wildly tough too you know you old as hell guys have to be wildly tough and i think since yeah since you started playing with aaron obviously earlier than now matthew stafford I would trust you being on my pickup hoops team because I'm no looking all the time. You know, and guys that I play with sometimes, boom, right in your face. You know what I mean? Got to be ready. Just put it up by the rim. I'll go flush. Don't worry about it. 33, you can still? Huh? Okay. All right. Hey, Pat, you're going to make me get in the gym on one of these off days, bro, and put some new footage up there for the world.
1:27:29Okay. Send the video. Yeah, we need to see the video. I've seen it. Don't make me do it. They're going to say I'm not focused in on football because I'm not there hooping on the Tuesday.
1:27:38Pat McAfee:Just a little reminder to everybody what's happening. You know these get-offs? Everybody's like, yeah, what do you think that is? Yeah, what do we think that is from? Yeah, whoop, whoop. I'm fouling, by the way. So is AJ. I think you knew that. I can shoot free throws. It's okay. No, not with us, though. You wouldn't be able to handle that. Where you have come in your football life, is absurd. Obviously, I assume if you were to go back and visit a younger you and tell you everything you've accomplished, you'd be pretty mind blown. Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, Devontae, after two more touchdowns last night, you are now just two behind Larry Fitzgerald for six all time.
1:28:16As a Packers fan, I was blessed to see about a hundred of those. Have you had a chance to reflect on that at all? I know, obviously, you're still playing at such a high level and you want to go win a Super Bowl, but when it's all said and done, have you thought about that at all? You're going to be top five all time in touchdown catches in NFL history. It's just insane that you've been able to play at as high of a level as you have for your entire career. Yeah, you know what, when things come up and, you know, it's, you know, you take another step in the history books, I think sometimes things come up to where organically, you know, you think about it, but I try not to think about it too much because, you know, I just, I'm always thinking about what I can do better and I know that's the that's the boring answer but the other answer is I feel like sometimes when you start thinking about certain things like last night they told me I had 195 and it was like a quarter left and then once you know it's like it's the hardest thing in the world to to get to that 200 yard mark you're like okay well we just had 145 in the first half like it certainly should be easy to finish this game with 200 yards and then you find out you're at 195 and it's like okay now we stuck there forever so I don't want to start thinking about you know I'm at 1 19 right now all i need is this so i just you know i attribute a lot of my success in my career to just being in the moment staying staying locked in and and you know you look back when it's all said and done and hopefully you like what you see there'll be a lot of shit that you'll like what
1:29:43Pat McAfee:you see about your career and uh obviously it's only growing and growing speaking of growing and growing uh there's a new trend with captains go ahead tone yeah devontae when uh earlier in the season we kind of had our jokes when the Rams tweeted out the captains for this season it seems like it's basically everyone on the team there which is awesome to talk about that but I also noticed last night that 99 didn't have a C on his jersey what does he have to do what does Aaron Donald have to do to get a C on his jersey this year too I mean we we could just give him one to be honest I don't I don't think I don't think there's really much we don't need to overthink that one I think it was just a timing issue he came in like I think literally the day we voted for captains and I'm not, not exactly sure how to, how to vote in process went, but we obviously have 26 captains and he's not one for now.
1:30:32We'll see, we'll see come up, come playoff time. I mean, but look at that list. Who are you going to take out? I know. Yeah.
1:30:39Pat McAfee:To be honest, as soon as it popped up, we said, all right, the Rams have a starting 11 as their captains. And we started to basically saying like the Rams Jersey now actually just comes with a C on it. But you look at the, It is a list of stars. I mean, it is a who's who of stars and leadership. At some points, it's like 30 % of our offensive huddle has a star in the jersey. Shut up. Shut up. No, I'm going to do that. Like the Spider-Man man. Yeah, exactly. Exactly what it's like over there. He stars everywhere, talent everywhere, old dudes, young dudes, and obviously a stadium that is beautiful.
1:31:15Pat McAfee:That place is gorgeous. And, you know, a lot of people are talking about how early it wasn't complete field. and it's like, that's 5.30 local time. They got work. Tough to get there. That's a different place, but obviously it's beautiful, and Sean McVay loves your addition to the squad, and congrats on turning back the hands of time and maybe living there for the rest of the year. Two touchdowns every game going forward. That's Devontae Hatties football. Go catch Jerry, Devontae. We trying, baby. We trying. Thank you for joining us. Compton Country Club. We're also huge supporters of that great hat there.
1:31:48How's the golf game? Here we go. It's solid, man. Right now, I wouldn't say it's the best in season. It's like once I'm in the offseason, like the season ends, I just want to grab my golf club and I don't want to touch a football. And then once we get in football, I'm I'm off it. I drop it and move on. So once once I'm done, once I'm retired, I think that's when my game will really go to the next next level. I'm a four right now, like a four seven. So so we got we got some work to do to get up there with some of the real big dogs. But but I like where my game's at right now.
1:32:19Pat McAfee:a 4.7 handicap what is your game are you uh do all is good obviously if you're at 4.7 but we're hitting this thing very long or we're hands short game short game is my my bread and butter i'm a really good putter and chipper and that's where i score that's what that's what helps me probably the most um i just started hitting driver like two years ago i was scared of it it was it was not a friendly club to me so but now i'm now hitting driver and i'm getting some good distance but I don't swing very hard. I like to keep it in play and just trust my, you know, I'm a pretty good iron player, but my wedges and my putter is what really gets hot and carries my game.
1:32:55Pat McAfee:Were you hitting the two wood? What were you using? I was playing actually a hybrid for a couple years where it was bent to a three, but I was getting like maybe like 250, 260 out of it, but it was like you might as well just go place it in the geometric center of the fairway.
1:33:15At TSI 2, it was my baby. And now I'm playing a tailor-made driver, and it's going a little bit farther and making it a little bit easier. Oh, yeah, there's a little Tahoe action right here. Is it the hybrid here? No, that's the driver. Right down the – that was geometric center as well.
1:33:34Pat McAfee:You're the best. Well, they found you geometrically center in the paint last night twice, and we can't wait to watch the rest of the year. Thank you for joining us, man. Appreciate you, bro. Good to see you all. Nice and gentlemen. It's Devontae Adam. Yeah, Devontae. The geometric center about 250 yards right in the middle of the fairway. Every time. You can find it. With a hybrid, yeah, I'd take that. That's Foxy. Stud golfer. That's Foxy golf right there. Foxy's about 210 yards right in the middle of the fairway. I think he uses a two-wood. Yeah, I've been using that mini driver. Mini driver saves lives.
1:34:05Straight down the middle. And like Devontae said, half the game is chipping and putting. So as long as that's dialed in, he can shoot good scores.
1:34:12Pat McAfee:Devontae's so smooth, so cool. I mean, just you watch him. He's so confident because he's obviously been there, done that. And everybody on the field knows who he is. Like, obviously, we are getting excited to see it for the first time. Defense is no Devontae's Devontae. Oh, yeah. And then when he comes into a game and he's, you know, wide receiver one because now, you know, the passing game is now built around you, essentially, a lot of times. So you're going to get more opportunities. And when he does that, like his game, he has one of those games that can just age great, continue to age great.
1:34:40Like the next, you know, four or five years, he can still play at a high level because of the little things, all the things that he talked about between the years. We always get excited come by a time when, you know, receivers are running 4-2, 4-3, jumping 45 inches in the air. But like when it comes to actually running routes and knowing when to get open, how to get open, understanding coverages, that's what makes the difference. And that's why you see a lot of these guys who maybe, you know, aren't track stars be the best wide receivers on Sundays because they know how to play the game. And I think Devontae Adams is a perfect example of that.
1:35:09Pat McAfee:I think Puka also, right? Puka's not running 4-3 or whatever. I mean, Jefferson, Justin Jefferson, Amon Ra, like a lot of the – Jackson. Cooper, Kupp, when he was, you know, winning the Triple Crown. A lot of these guys – none of these guys were like, you know, shorts and T-shirt. You'd be like, hey, that's the best wide receiver in the league. But, like, Jamar Chase would be the guy that kind of breaks that mold where it's like, hey, absolute athletic freak. Also very, very savvy when it comes to all the other things as well. So, but, yeah. Don't want to leave out Jackson Smith and Jigua. Oh, yeah.
1:35:39Yeah, I do not want to leave that. The reigning offensive player. But, yeah, another, I think, perfect example of those things.
1:35:44Pat McAfee:Yeah, and they showed it on hard knocks. Like, hey, you don't necessarily have to run a 4-2. You can run a 4-6. But if you can go from 4-7 to 4-6, okay, and you can kind of shift down in a certain time, then you can create space, separation. Then guess what? You're open. These guys aren't slow. I was going to say, J.S.A. is throwing a 4-4. 4-4-5. When you look at it in the grand scheme of things, You're looking at Madden speed ratings, and they're not, like, you know, in the upper 90s. But, like, you know, 4-4-5, 4-5-1 is still moving, especially if you know how to play it and how to, you know, get in and out of breaks.
1:36:18Pat McAfee:That's why Travis Kelsey gets open. Yep. That's why he's still getting open. Mostly hoopers, huh, AJ? Mostly hoopers, feels like. D-Bot would probably know. Like, D-Bot, I know, like, especially tight ends, covering the guys that, like, Jason Witten, he's not running a 4-3. But that dude, like, they know how to burst. They kind of lull you to sleep, and then at the top of the route, they burst either way. They're so savvy and good at working off your leverage. I think those are some of the toughest guys to cover. Travis Kelsey has the most yards after catch in the history of the NFL. Crazy. That is crazy.
1:36:44Pat McAfee:Running a 4 '8 right now. Legend. Maybe. It is. It's awesome. And he's a hooper, though. You can see it when he's running. It's like everything's so smooth. Knows exactly where to go. Just like what Gronk was. I mean, I assume Gronk's a hooper just because he's Gronkowski. Gary Gonzalez. Tony Gonzalez. Yeah. Statistically best. Receiving tight end Antonio Gates. Hooper. Yeah, I think hooping is a big part of, like, the wiggle that comes from and reading bodies and utilizing leverage and everything at the wide receiver position. So maybe Baby Midas does get into hoops a little bit, you know? Because Jackson Smith and Jacob, how tall?
1:37:23Pat McAfee:5 '11". Oh, he might be 6 '1", maybe. Really? I'll say 6 '1", I think. He's built, too. I don't know if Baby Midas is going to make it. He was 6 '5", at the combine. Yes. And that's the smallest he's going to be because, remember, at the NFL combine, they're pushing your head down. They want to see how small you can be. In the NBA, they're like, let's put on a couple pairs of socks, get these shoes on. We want you to be as tall as possible. In the NFL, they're like, get your – hey. Everybody's just saying something. Can I just, like, maybe do this one here? No. No. Get your stupid head down. You guys make me look kind of fat right now with the way you're having me stand.
1:38:03Pat McAfee:This is just not how I would normally stand. And why am I in tights and shirtless in front of all these people that I don't know? Kind of feels like I'm, yep, you are. Okay. 5 '11", 7 '8". That's not real. I've been six foot since fucking high school. What are we talking about? Oh, yeah. No, you're 5 '11", 7 '8". Because I don't have confidence up here? I didn't know I was going to be getting shoved around naked in front of people. Okay, maybe I could work on that. Then go to pro day. That was at Senior Bowl. Go to pro day. Six foot. I was a little bit more confident. I didn't know I was going to get shoved out in front of a bunch of people with a spotlight on me with a guy batting my head as if he's wrecking Ralph trying to get me down as small as possible.
1:38:41Pat McAfee:That was at Senior Bowl. Wasn't even invited to the combine. NFL, feel like we've covered it pretty good. College football, we had Reese's Pieces. I feel like we covered it pretty good. The only thing we haven't done, AJ, for college football is make sure everybody understands right where Tones above average bowl is. Here we go. Okay, so Tone debuted last week his poll, which would be his rankings of the top three teams in college football. He has an AP vote for the NFL, not in college. We call it an above-average poll because he's doing some research, but he's not, I mean, we're not boots on the ground at all.
1:39:18Pat McAfee:And it's definitely not like 30 ,000-foot view with no research, so it's not average. It's not super elite because he's not in there. It's just an above-average poll. Tone, who sits atop your above average poll this week? Yeah, and speaking of 30 ,000 feet, I am trying to book a flight to Turkey to see if we can get that poll a little more above average than it is currently right now. They do that over there. It's a lot cheaper. Yeah, it's a lot cheaper. Wait, you get your hair done over there and better college football polls? Yes, bigger. Wow, I didn't know that. Even girthier. So this has kind of turned into like a combination of the season-long mixed with what just happened this weekend, like who won the weekend.
1:39:56and obviously there was only one team that you could put at the top of this above-average pool, and that was the Ole Miss Rebs. Wow.
1:40:04Pat McAfee:Congratulations, Ole Miss. Wait a minute. Yeah. Yeah, I'm sitting down there near the bottom, number two and number three teams on this pool. Yeah, that's right. It's a combination, because guess what? Second best win of the weekend. Could have been the West Virginia Mountaineers. They got a ranked win, 10-plus points ranked win, which, you know, surprise Mountaineers aren't ranked this week. Neutral site, too. Neutral site, you're right, too. Down in Charlotte, not Charlottesville. And then, you know, Georgia, they've just been taking – they had their first opponent of actual – well, it's hard to say that Arkansas is an actual opponent.
1:40:36They didn't have anyone show up for the game or anything like that. But it is a Power 4 team, and Georgia's just been running amok this season. But Ole Miss at the top, followed by WVU and Georgia.
1:40:45Pat McAfee:Okay, D-Butt, first thoughts as you see this poll that is above average. My first thought, I can't believe Tony's pandering right now with that West Virginia logo up here. What does Texas have to do to get on this pole? Oh, I'm sorry. 58 out of 69. They look like dog shit against UTSA, and I'm not going to reward that. I mean, how are they supposed to back up that? Arch was 12 of 50, okay? It was a bad week for the Longhorns. Tell you what, they win in Knoxville this weekend. There's a good chance they're back at the top of the pole. Okay, so there's a chance they could slide up the pole. The team at the top of your pole here has another massive one this weekend.
1:41:18Pat McAfee:And congrats to them. Because we see where their positioning is on your pole, I don't think they even have to play another game. They win this weekend already. Yeah, they already won the game. They should have favored. Nope. Nope. Florida's favored over the men in the team that sits atop Tones average. Wow, what? It's crazy. Joining us now, though, guy that maybe can just call it a season. Big game on Saturday. Now he's atop Tones pole. Head coach of the Ole Miss Red football team. Friend of the program. Ladies and gentlemen, Pete Golding. Yeah, coach. Coach. Congrats, dude. What's up, fellas?
1:41:52Pat McAfee:Hey, just shut it down. You're on top of the pool. Yeah, shit, go home, man. I'll go home early. Congrats, Coach. Reese Davis, if you're going the wrong way, go to the other way, please, if you could, to your right shoulder as opposed to your left shoulder. I don't know if it's on a moving thing, whatever. The other way. Boom. Yeah, you look great. Shut it down, Coach. You beat LSU. Obviously an awesome weekend. Tone rewarded you. Reese Davis in the first hour said, Ole Miss is the best team in ball. So I think it's good for you guys just to kind of maybe don't do anything for the rest of the season.
1:42:24Pat McAfee:Now, on that note, a lot of accolades coming your way. How are you handling it? It was a huge win. The world watched it. I was lucky to be down there. What an atmosphere. What a time. How are you viewing Saturday? And how are you viewing how people are talking about your team at this point as opposed to maybe a couple weeks ago? I kind of love how Tone said it, man. He said this was based on last weekend. Like, what have you done for me lately? Like, it was Saturday. And it was an unbelievable environment. Our fans were awesome. Student section was awesome. Kids came out, played their butt off, wasn't perfect by any means, and got the job done for that week.
1:42:59And congratulations, you get to go play another top 25 team at Florida who's got an 80 % win rate in the last 10 years as a top 25 team with one of the best offenses in the country versus Summerall, you know, coach football team that's coming from the playoffs. I think Buster Faulkner's, one of the best offensive coordinators in the country, does an unbelievable job. on top of having Brad on the defense, which, you know, we lost to Kentucky in the 24 season with Brad as the D.C. at Kentucky. And then we go to Florida, ranked number 14, playing a 5-5 football team in 2024 and get embarrassed in the swamp.
1:43:31So if anybody in this building is not working their ass off to know that they're going to play a really good football team that's really well coached, there's more wrong with them than I think there is.
1:43:41Pat McAfee:Okay. So what about the – you're on top of the pole, though. Listen, it was a great win. it. This is a good time, Pete. It's a good time. Yeah, so if we're having this conversation in January, bro, I'm all about it, man. It's September. Okay, last question for me before the boys have a question for you. I don't know if you're seeing this, but obviously whenever you get dropped into a college football playoff run as your first head coaching experience, your top ten opponents versus wins versus top ten opponents are obviously greatest in the history of college football coaching. Does it feel like this is just normal for you?
1:44:13Pat McAfee:Because conversation around college ball is we don't have these big games. We don't have these big games and i assume you're thinking yourself all we do is have big games how do you treat that how do you talk about that and how do you feel now as a seasoned coach for these types of massive games season it's a good word no i think you know being uh under coach saving at alabama and being all those big games and the big environments and uh you know that's the norm that's the expectation that's what it should be but you know i love just watching him it didn't matter if we were playing Citadel or we were playing Georgia in the SEC championship game, it didn't matter.
1:44:47Like your preparation has got to be exactly the same. You've got to have really good game plans. You've got to hold your players accountable. And you've got to do things right Monday through Friday to have the results you want on Saturday. So I'm very grateful for being around that for five and a half years. I was very fortunate of the timing of this thing when it happened last year. There wasn't much to think about. You know, the train was kind of already on the track, and let's get it and run with it. And then the schedule is what it is. You know, I mean, you've got nine SEC teams. and so every week if you don't show up and prepare really well and pray really well you're gonna get your butt beat so it feels like a top 25 match every week but you know we're our biggest opponent and that's day in and day out and we got so much things to clean up we've yet to play four quarters of football and so we got a lot to correct that we put on tape that they're gonna try to take
1:45:29Pat McAfee:advantage of i love that you're never happy dude you just got that miserableness that every head coach that is great at what they do has to have deep down in there and that's that that doesn't mean you don't have great energy, which you do have great energy and great aura, but deep down there is just a misery that is always looming for every coach that's scared to death that it's around the corner. I respect and appreciate that you have that. I don't know if you've seen the stat, but they lead the country in forced missed tackles, right? And we're second in the country in missed tackles. And so I think when you, the combination of those two things don't make you sleep real well at night, you know, on top of when you look at what really matters in the SEC right now, like teams that won the takeaway battle last week, undefeated, right?
1:46:09Six and O teams that won the explosive nine and O, you know, so the football obviously is going to be very, very important this week and protecting and taking advantage of it on defense. They're second in the sec and call us turnovers. So they've done a really good job of playing complimentary football. So it's going to be a challenge. We're excited. This one's a really tough place to play. Like I said, we lost in 24 down there being ranked. And I remember going in there at number one at Alabama and it's a one possession game late, you know, and you're sneaking out of there. So a lot of respect for Coach Summer on that team, and it's going to have to be a battle.
1:46:39I love it.
1:46:40Pat McAfee:Hey, let me tell you boys why we're completely fucked this week. That's what you just did. AJ has a question for you, Coach. Yeah, Coach, obviously you guys jumped out to an early lead against LSU, and then it became close, and you guys ultimately find a way to win. I guess at all levels it seems very difficult to play with a lead. Can you explain what it's like if you get up two scores, almost three scores at times? Like why, no matter what NFL, college, high school, youth, like playing with a lead is difficult. Do you have any – is that something you guys can work on and you can game plan and try to work on through the week?
1:47:11Well, I think it goes back to kind of their mindset and where their focus is, you know. And when you start to become outcome-oriented and start looking at the scoreboard and all that type of stuff. So, you know, you try to simulate it in practice from the standpoint of giving them more breaks and like, all right, here's the second half. Because it's really been the third quarter for us that's been an issue. Like it was in Charlotte. You're sitting there 27-9 at halftime. come out in the third quarter, don't play well on either side of the ball. So we addressed it at halftime at LSU. We thought we worked on it that week.
1:47:38We came out, we got a three and out on defense, and then we turned the football over, and then they go score 17 straight. So that's something the mindset-wise and the focus and the attention to detail, man, like you don't know what play it's going to be. You don't know what quarter it's going to be. But I think that's more of a mindset and an outlook than it really is based on it being the third quarter or anything like that. So, you know, in this league, man, you can't relax, and you can't never settle, and you can't become comfortable. So I think we've got to do a better job of coaches of staying on their ass and make sure they're focused on the right thing.
1:48:06I didn't feel like that we changed our mindsets on either side of the ball as far as not being aggressive and anything like that. So a lot of times you'll look back at the tape and like, okay, did we get soft? Did we play off? Did we give them free access? Did we try to run the ball more than take shots? Didn't feel like the game plan at all changed, but just thought we didn't execute at the same level we needed to. And hats off to them. They made a couple of really good plays as well.
1:48:29Pat McAfee:Yeah, and it's good to coach from. That's always good to have coming out of a massive win like that. And you talk about that particular win. I mean, the energy was palpable from the morning. Thank you for coming by the game day set. That Grove was alive. So many tents. I mean, just do they? What is the number of humans that are out there? I mean, it just. I have no idea. Actually, I don't even know. Because somebody asked me at the NFL, they were like, what was the Grove like? I've heard it's an insane tailgate. It's like, I'd say it's a whole city of tents that is just as far as you can see. And every single tent is like somebody's house.
1:49:07Pat McAfee:And then like they have neighbors. And then like you go to this one and you walk through this one to get to this one. Go six tents this way, three tents that way. You'll run into Jim. Jim has the shit. It's like a whole world under there, it seems like. And boy, they love your team. But on that note, it can bring a lot of energy to a night that can maybe get cagey. Go ahead, D. Absolutely. So much energy. a lot of hoopla, I guess, surrounding this game, game day. Everyone knows this one was circled, at least from the outside in. At what point did it just become a football game for you, for the coaches and then the players, with all that on the outside?
1:49:39And then going forward after the game, I know you're looking forward to Florida. How do you kind of avoid as a coach kind of, I guess, that emotional kind of dump or letdown that players or teams could have going into their next football game? Yeah, I mean, I think going into it, you know, So kind of what we had put on tape versus Louisville and Charlotte wasn't good football for four quarters. And we had made a lot of mistakes in all three phases and were vulnerable in certain things that, you know, I thought the Charlotte game came at a really good time that we didn't play real well versus Louisville and busted a lot of stuff.
1:50:11And they came back in Charlotte and didn't finish it the way that we were supposed to. So, you know, my message to those guys, I don't care if you're playing Charlotte, Delta State, if you roll a three cloud and you ain't got a half player, you're going to get your ass beat. Like the mistakes that we were making had nothing to do with who we were playing. And so, you know, I felt like it was a good week to really focus on ourselves. That's easier said than done, as you guys know. I mean, we got Ella Langley in town. You got game day and all that. So I was proud of the players, really proud of the building and our staff and our coaches.
1:50:36We've got to keep the focus and make sure on the preparation and hold them accountable throughout the week. But we had some guys step up from a leadership standpoint and hold their teammates accountable as well, because we knew we were going to have to play well in that game to win that game. And then going into this one, man, like this one's a harder one, right? It's easier to get there than stay there. We all know that. And so, you know, putting the focus on the right shit. And, you know, we got a bye week next week. That's when I met with him Sunday night. I'm like, look, man, what do we have a week from now?
1:51:01I was like, Coach, I don't know. I was like, you got a bye week, right? Like, I need six days to go all in. And then I'll give you time. I'll work all that shit out. But, like, for six days, we got to go all in and we got to do things the right way. So you got a good feeling in the bye week because it's going to take everything we got. So hopefully they can kind of see the light of the tunnel with this bye coming up next week to really be able to focus and really prepare the right way to play a good team.
1:51:21Pat McAfee:I like the motivation. You know, it doesn't matter what the motivation is. If you can get everybody to rally, that's the only thing that matters. And I think you've got the right guy to rally around, everybody seemingly noticing and acknowledging at this point. Last question for you here from Tone. Yeah, Coach, he's talking about Trinidad Chambliss, who, I mean, that man is – there is no throw that scares him on the football field. There's no move. There's no play that scares him on the football field. He is willing to do anything. And it feels like every single time he makes the play, what kind of confidence does he give you and then just his teammates on offense?
1:51:51And then there was a lot of talk of injury reports last week on Wednesday or Thursday. Are we going to find out what's going on with Kwon Lacy and if he's going to be available this weekend? That's a good question, actually. Yeah, obviously, you know, Trinidad, starting with him, he's a fierce competitor, man. And, you know, obviously our entire team has all the confidence in the world in him, not based on what he's done, but based on how he comes in every day and prepares and works his butt off and how he practices and how he pulls the people around him with him. So a lot of confidence our team has in him.
1:52:19Obviously, I have a lot of confidence in him, veteran quarterback, back in the system. He's won everywhere he's been, won a national championship in Division II, had a good run last year. So, love when the ball's in his hands. You know, as far as Kiwan, Kiwan did bang the shoulder up in the game. MRI on Sunday wasn't as bad as we thought. So, we're going to manage it throughout the week and really evaluate it from a Saturday standpoint. Is he healthy enough to play winning football or not? That is why we went out and got three more backs in the offseason. I thought JT came in and played really well.
1:52:47Makai will get healthy. So, for some reason, he's not able to play. We'll have some other guys better roll in.
1:52:52Pat McAfee:Well, congratulations. I don't even think you have to play the game. They already won the national championship. Way to go, Pete. Call something wrong. Going home, man. Appreciate you guys. How about the Pete chants, bro? Pete, Pete, Pete. That was pretty nice. I don't know if you heard that. The whole stadium was Pete chanting. I loved it. And lose a game and there'll be four sales signs at Pete's house. I get it. We understand how this sport is. So, no, we appreciate all the support, man. We just got to keep working hard, put a good product on tape. We'll be all right. You're the man. Good luck.
1:53:22Pat McAfee:Congrats, ladies and gentlemen. It's Pete Bowden. You too, man. Hey, Coach. Yeah, for sale, Pete, is what they'll be saying on the other side of that. He's got all the traits of just a head coach, even though he had a nice little life as a D coordinator. I had a nice little life as a defensive coordinator, and then this all kind of happens, and they go, hey, we think you're the only guy that can rally everybody. Congrats, you're the head coach of Ole Miss through the college football playoffs. Oh, it went really well. Now you're head coach of the SEC. All right. Yeah, let's see. I guess I'm getting a haircut.
1:53:49Pat McAfee:That's kind of the only thing to change. He's the best. So are sports and football. We'll be back tomorrow. Big Shrags is next. Oh, it's a big day. With Big Shrags. Hosted by Big Shrags. Big Shrags is next. We'll see it. It's like saying McAfee's next. Yeah. McAfee. Yeah. Cuffee's next. Yeah, exactly. Swagoo's energy is hilarious. How about when Rampage came up there? Rammy, you mean? I'll tell you, it's hard for me, you know. Their names are on their back. Sure. So if I'm staring at them and they can't talk, you know, so I can't just ask them, like, hi, my name's Pat, which would be a normal interaction.
1:54:27Pat McAfee:These things don't like the gossip. So they don't. Well, you're right. Exactly. Yeah. There are a couple mouthy ones. There are certainly a couple mouthy ones. The worst ones. there are a few that certainly break the gimmick that Connor doesn't love and we've been down and through the mascot world a couple different times and I think we show more respect for the mascots than maybe anybody else but the not knowing what their name is is tough, I mean that's a tough thing and Rami would be a great name yeah you don't think Rami? no I do, I was just thinking what's the problem with just saying it's the Rams mascot who gives a fuck what his name is Even with blue.
1:55:09Who gives a fuck? That's the Colts mascot. I'm sorry. My football team doesn't have a fucking mascot. We don't do that.
1:55:17Pat McAfee:You guys wear cheese heads on all your fucking heads. Exactly. That's not a fucking mascot. We're kind of all mascots. Well, the people can talk. We don't have to act like this fucking guy in a costume needs to have the... Or a girl. Or a girl. What about hockey? Well, we're not talking about hockey right now. Yeah, because I saw you fucking banging the guy. No, no, no. That don't mean the sport. I mean hockey, Hawkeye. You talking about Herky? Prick? What a disgusting Italian. That's different. College, I get it. In the NFL, I don't think we need to be referring to these goddamn mascots by name.
1:55:48I think you can just say this is the Rams mascot. It is a Ram. This is the Colts mascot. It's a fucking Colt. Blue. Sure. Now, if you're a diehard mascot guy and you want to call him Blue, you want to call him Rampage, Pat the Patriot, Steely McBeam, that's fine. Jax, him, DeVille. Yeah, exactly. That's fine. But, oh, it's a Jaguar's mascot. That's what I'm going to stick with.
1:56:12Pat McAfee:Dude, fucking... Oh, no. Oh, no. They've already updated the Wikipedia. Rammy? Rampage or Mr. Rammy. There you go. Boom. So, in college, there's a lot of mascots. And I try my best to acknowledge them. And that's a big part of that. So I understand that. Because people do get shoot pissed if... Like Mr. Mountaineer. I never get it right. I never get the name right. I'm always in the ballpark, but I have batted zero with guessing these things' names. That's the first time that Swagu has been around me attempting it just right to the face. His reaction was fucking glorious. And then Rampage's depressing drop and then turning around and pointing at him.
1:56:58Pat McAfee:Taxi was a good gimmick by him. He played that very well. Yeah, it was a good time. We had some fun up there. swagu's first round pick jason kelsey's what best center of all time i think people forget that aj like actually they definitely do they definitely forget yeah and i think jason is okay if they forget about that because his media career is becoming whatever it is but like hey this is certified like i know he has fun and you guys call him sexy he's the sexiest man on earth and he's loud because he likes football and he's a bigger man so he gets excited about it but like i think a lot of people forgetting that this fucking guy is the guy you know like on the internet the way people are talking about it's like hey this guy still wants to do one-on-ones by the way in full pads this guy still wants to do that his body just what kind of won't let him tush bush his thing literally moving other humans everything he has done is incredible so just being up there j-mac he's phenomenal on television yes he is j-mac is i watched him late night last night late late night last night.
1:57:59Pat McAfee:Really? Late night last night with SVP where he was on a little touch screen and then he was also on the thing. It's like, he's really talented. And then Scott Van Pelt's he's a Hall of Famer, right? Scott Van Pelt, Hall of Famer, whenever it comes to the house. Lucky to be a part of that. Very lucky to be a part of that. We've had fun these first two weeks. Chicago next. Here we go. The bag man. With the bag man. What's that? The bag man. The bag man. Tyson? No, we don't know if that's it. We don't know. Maybe. Oh, it's the back man. Caleb A. It's the back man ruled out. Yeah, Ben Johnson might suspect him.
1:58:33And his dad's got huge forearms, so get ready. Not just huge forearms, obviously.
1:58:38Pat McAfee:A lot of heart. Yeah. World champion arm wrestling. Yeah, cool way to turn that around. I didn't know that. Great tattoos. He goes over to Tom. You didn't hear that story? No. No, I was kidding. I've heard it about 100 million times. I understand that his dad's a champion arm wrestler. I get it. Oh, you've heard that story? Yeah, crazy, I know. Good news. I got some good news for you. We're going to hear it a couple more times, I think. Yeah, I don't doubt it. I don't doubt it, which I'm okay with because Over the Top is one of my favorite Slash the Low movies of all time. And I'm guessing it motivated the bag man's dad to go.
1:59:14He probably has a Lincoln Hawk tattoo on his shoulder or something, I would guess.
1:59:18Pat McAfee:Shepard University out of West Virginia, the dad, becomes world champion arm wrestler. Hard Knocks gets a hold of this, right? Yes. I think Hard Knocks gets a hold of this information and goes, They go all the way in. And Dad's awesome. He's a fucking professional arm wrestler out of West Virginia. He's a wild man. He's going to be fucking awesome. So just a little heads up, if he's starting a Monday Night Football game, I think we're going to hear about that. I think we are too. I think there's a chance it's coming. I do think that helps him being a backup quarterback, though. Obviously, grit, toughness, everything like that.
1:59:50Pat McAfee:The backup quarterback position, and Rapp talked about it and we've talked about it, it's not easy. That's why you see a lot of the same names do it because they're trusted and that's like, hey, they can pull it up. Not every starting quarterback from college or starting quarterback from high school who's the man, homie. Every place they were at, they were the best football player. The entire system is built up around them. Like, hey, this is how we want to do ball. So not only ego-wise and pride-wise, you have to put that down and be like, no, I'm not going to play. you have to like just serve basically you have to serve the defense you have to serve the quarterback you have to serve the coaches you have to serve the locker room you have to serve it's like a lot of you know democratic work a lot of mental stuff too like you got to prepare like you are the starter and you may go seven years before getting in remember Jim Sorge sat behind Peyton for how many years like forever and then once he left Peyton he went over the Giants it was behind Eli and it's like that's because Eli knows that he's already got so like the backup quarterback position, they do get it put into a carousel.
2:00:47Pat McAfee:It's because it's not easy, which is once again why we expected a lot more from Jameis because this is Jameis' role and has been for a while. It just may be a tough night for Jameis. Yeah, I think definitely a tough night. I think hopefully he will figure it out. We've seen ups. We've seen downs from Jameis. But I think a lot of times we see it where the backup quarterback, like that first time they go in, it was kind of what Pete said, too. You don't have time to really think about it. You just go in there and play like numb. Like, you know, teams haven't necessarily game plan for you. They don't know your strengths, your weaknesses, what you like, what you don't like.
2:01:18So you just go in there to play. Your play gets in and you just run it almost like you've been doing the scout team all week. And then as the weeks go on, when you know you're going to be the starter and now you have more input in the game plan, that's when you see it get harder. It's like, okay. You turn into a pumpkin. That's why this guy is a backup quarterback. So if you have a backup, you have an injury, that maybe your quarterback is out three, four, five weeks. You just have a guy that can keep you afloat, still have good vibes, still feel like an adult in the room when you run out of that tunnel as a teammate, you feel like you actually have a chance, that's important.
2:01:46So I think hopefully Jameis can figure it out. We've seen him. And you talked about the reason these guys have jobs forever. Jameis was Heisman winner, national champion, number one pick, was a starter in the league for a long time, got paid. So you would think he would have it to figure it out. So we've got to see it.
2:02:01Pat McAfee:Super Bowl champion Sam Darnold out, backup quarterback in. Caleb Williams potentially going to have record-breaking offense this year out, backup quarterback. Jaden Daniels, need it for the Washington Commanders this year after your rookie season, then getting hurt in another one. Out, Marcus Mariota's in there. Jackson Dart, the Giants, all the way back. Out, Jameis Winston's in there. So this might be one of those years that nobody really wants, obviously. Actually, Universe Bowl right now.

2:03:33Pat McAfee:Injuries? Injuries. Okay. Best season yet. Here we go. Money. Damn. Was that for more injuries or no injuries? That was for more injuries. Okay. This one's for no injuries. That's what I thought. Yeah, that's a good idea. Way to work us out of that. Because we just said injuries. Yeah, this is for no more injuries in football, especially to the quarterback position, which this is an alarming rate for starting quarterbacks that we're having here the first two weeks. A couple years ago, it was 60-some quarterbacks that played? 66, I think. And remember, some of those primetime games were just absolute slop.
2:04:08Pat McAfee:I mean, just we were watching Carson Wentz take on Tyson Bajan in the middle of a downpour, and we thought the Chicago Bears were potentially going to have a record-breaking offense this season. Not the case. Carson, Tyson, week two, Soldier Field, downpour, 9-3 game. It's like we could be staring that down here. Oh, yeah. Need you. quarterback injuries no more if this goes in fuck missed it alright ladies and gentlemen join us now oh no that was my worst throw yet dang it's not good not even fucking close maybe it's cause we haven't gotten an update you know maybe it's cause we haven't gotten an update on last night you know so maybe it wasn't that was my worst throw yet That was by far my worst throw yet.
2:05:01Pat McAfee:I'm so sorry that that happened. That was supposed to go in. Collar's coming back this week. Boom. Get one back. That's right. Certainly doing this. Hey, one here. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a man who's representing the United States of America. Hell yeah. And from the tweet that was seen 2.9 million times, whenever it was announced that he was going to be representing the United States of America, he was pumped. We're talking bald eagles. We're talking military movies. We're talking U.S. Olympic wins. All put together, I believe, I don't want to guess the song. He did it. He edited it himself.
2:05:36Pat McAfee:And he sang his song. Man from New Jersey who has five PGA Tour wins. And he's a member of the President's Cup United States team, which is battling this weekend in Chicago against the rest of the world outside of Europe. Yes. Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Goddard. Yay! Thanks, fellas. Hey, the time has come now, Chris. Okay, we saw your video whenever it was announced you were a part of America. Now it's time to beat the world's ass. How are we feeling? Just a couple days removed here from the President's Cup. We have won since 1984 in this particular one, I do believe. I don't know if they've ever beat the United States of America.
2:06:17Pat McAfee:How do you feel? How do the lads feel? And obviously, we need this, Chris, as a country. So good luck out there. Yeah, thank you. It's been great so far, so good. Obviously, it's been a little cold and windy here, but it's been nice. Yeah, everyone's got good vibes this week. We had a little tradition night last night, and we had to sing some karaoke, and I butchered it, but as expected. But, yeah, it's been good. What song? I am a real American. Dude. What was it? I went Creed One Last Breath, and I... Oh, every choice. Wow. What did you sing? Was it just the rookies or everybody? Yeah, who sang?
2:06:57Just the rookies. Just the rookies.
2:06:58Pat McAfee:Okay, so it'll never happen again. Can't butcher that one, Chris. No one can sing it like Scott Stapp. Yeah, I mean, we were set up for failure to begin with. But, yeah, it was funny. That's what they wanted. So we gave them what they wanted. You don't do Mariah Carey, and you don't do Scott Stapp. Bingo. That's just kind of rules to live by in karaoke. I think we'll all go forward. if you ever get a chance to do this again actually i don't know the golf community i don't know we always talk about the rookies in the nfl all you gotta do is ain't no mountain high and the whole place just starts singing with you and then all of a sudden now you're just like the conductor of a good time and everybody's like yeah and then you're out of there 30 45 seconds yeah yeah something yeah you gotta go for the you gotta go for the sing-along get everyone in it quick yeah so i don't like the decisions you're making here early so who decided that you're gonna do scott's tap was that the lads or was that you no it's you you pick you pick so my my fault stop you went with out there uh okay so whatever we talk about the team you know obviously you guys are an individual sport we talked to the golfers about the rider cup and how good it feels to be a part of team sport team sport for you did you grow up playing team sports i think i read you're in lacrosse and how does that actually affect golfers being on a team together like are are you guys trying to motivate each other are you trying to pair well together like how does the team aspect for an individual sport work for you?
2:08:21Yeah, I think, you know, I'm not too far removed from college golf, so I'm used to the team stuff a little bit, but it is different. I mean, you got to be pretty selfish in golf, especially individually, to make it, and it's a unique opportunity for us to kind of come together and spend a lot of time and really kind of lean on one another, but yeah, it's an interesting dynamic. You know, we spend a lot of time together at home. A lot of us live together in Florida, so we spend a lot of time practicing and whatnot, so we're all pretty friendly to begin with, so it's not too difficult for us to kind of become friends and kind of come together for one week.
2:08:58Pat McAfee:You're a good lacrosse player, yeah? I mean, you know, I'm not going to say that, but I could shoot it. I'm slow, though. Okay, so you just got to walk a golf course. That's all we need. Yeah, yeah. I picked the better sport for that. Yeah, I think it worked out for all of us. Go ahead, AJ. Yeah, as far as the setup here at Medina, I know, I'm not sure if the President's Cup is like the Ryder Cup, where the home team kind of gets to set it up. Are we setting this up for success for you guys? Make sure it's playing to your strength and not the international guys and really making sure we're, you know, making sure all the boxes are checked that we're going to win this thing?
2:09:35Yeah, that's kind of Sned's role leading up into it. You know, we came out for a practice trip and he was kind of asking us what we liked, what we wanted to change. You know, ideally we wanted to play as hard as possible. And I think we have, you know, the guys that can handle that. And, but I think, you know, we kind of hand it over to the PGA Tour. They kind of manage it from here on out. Like we don't get to pick the tees. We don't get to do all this other stuff. The Tour manages it from here on out like a normal tournament. But we have input up until Friday. So I'm sure the players aren't really involved in it.
2:10:12The captain kind of talks to us and relays a message to the tour.
2:10:17Pat McAfee:Thursday, five four-ball matches. Friday, five four-some matches. Saturday, rounds three and four. You got four four-ball matches in the morning, four four-some matches in the afternoon. Then Sunday is what all comes down to. Yeah, 12 points on the line. We just got to stay within 12. Ryder Cup, we're close to not. You know, that was something that happened then. We almost had the biggest comeback in the history of sports. Inevitably, we didn't because that's not how golf works. Need that not to happen here in the President's Cup. That's why we got Chris Goddard up over there. That's why we got Chris Goddard up over there.
2:10:51Pat McAfee:Go ahead, Ty Schmidt. Yeah, Chris, I don't know how much you've played it so far this week. How is the course playing? You mentioned the wind and a little bit of the rain. We saw the Bears game on Sunday against the Vikings. It was essentially a monsoon. How are the course conditions thus far? i mean the course is in pretty good shape it's obviously wet based off what you saw um i think they said they got four or five inches of rain in like 72 hours so it's wet and long um but i think it's supposed to get better as the week goes on here and hopefully some of those winds dries out like of course it makes it a little firmer but yeah you're gonna get a long long soft golf course and uh yeah i mean it's gonna be a good test either way okay let's talk about the style in these particular types of events that we all like kind of looks like other sports go ahead con man yeah chris it feels like match play is the best at times for people who aren't huge golf fans just to watch it's simpler kind of easier to read and now match play uh is becoming a big thing on the tour after this next season being the kind of tour playoff setup with the matches do you like that do you enjoy the match play more what is kind of your read on the entire thing and what was your reaction to the tour playoffs getting changed to that yeah i think it's a you know for tv i think it's a great um product you know you're gonna get you know a normal tournament you get the best player over 72 holes wins the tournament where you know you see on thursday some guy goes out and shoots 10 under at a normal tournament like he could beat anyone that day um so i think match play gets exciting and a little more chaotic um you know than a normal tournament where the best player is going to win the whole thing where you can kind of weasel your way through a bracket a little bit, which is good for viewership.
2:12:32Pat McAfee:You can compete. You can compete out there. I like that you're trying to beat somebody directly because you guys are always so good job. Good job. That is part of the game that I don't think I fully understand, especially on a Sunday. What did we just see this Sunday? This guy, he had a par 5 one-stroke lead. This guy lays up, goes into the sand, hits a double. Brutal. Brutal. But then afterwards ESS go, JJ, good job, man. You know, instead of like a full collapse like we see in other sports, you guys have to be super like, it feels like professional for the good of sport. I like in match play that there is a little bit of emotion.
2:13:14Pat McAfee:Yeah, there's a little direct, you know, like Scotty Scheffler was at the last President's Cup, maybe screaming after a long putt was made. It's like a little bit more set up for that type of stuff. And out of New Jersey, I assume that might be somewhere that might be in your ballpark. Now, speaking of Turnpike Town, go ahead, or Parkway Town. Go ahead, Tone. Yeah, Chris, what the hell is going on in Piscataway? Okay? I mean, I know Sean is great, but what the hell is going on with Rutgers football? I mean, you're – I don't know. I mean, I had hope last Saturday for a day and just, you know, I got the life sucked out of me again.
2:13:51But I don't know. it's tough man I mean hopefully everyone sticks in it I know I'll be watching every Saturday that I can and try to try to I mean try to but it's yeah it's a tough break going on there but I mean hopefully Shiano or turn it around I've had a rough start here I got OU losing to Michigan Rutgers 0-3 and that Colts game on Sunday night was tough
2:14:19Pat McAfee:yeah Oklahoma I don't know brother that was supposed to be good this year and it just has i know it's it's it's been a rough rough football sorry for me sorry golf about to be incredible now golf is an interesting thing because you are uh isolated individual but you do have a tag team partner last question here from dbutt for you yeah chris and i don't know if you saw this video um speaking of golf i believe this from last week with tosy his caddy quit mid-round i think walking into the ninth hole right before the turn so I want to kind of ask just kind of a zoomed out question what goes into selecting your caddy I know your brother's on the bag for one of your wins as well I know that was special what goes into actually selecting a caddy and have you had any moments like this in your golf career I've never seen this in my life but props to that guy that video is so good um to have the you know the the balls to go out and do that and drop the bag and just walk in is is something else But, yeah, I mean, caddy thing is something that I super underrated.
2:15:24You know, coming out of school, I didn't think it was a big deal. And, you know, you spend more time with your caddy than your family. So you've got to be really good friends. You spend so much time together. And then you've got to lean on him and trust him to either tell you when something's wrong or, you know, kind of double down on what you guys think is right. So it's something that's massively important. And we rely heavily on these guys.
2:15:47Pat McAfee:Alright, so what am I doing wrong here? Put your head on the wall. It's a putter, so it's kind of hard. Oh, the putter might be problem number one there. It's all we fucking got. Classic. Okay? It's all we got. I think you got the undefable underneath your desk, too. Save this shit for the quarantine you're playing against. Alright, so I'm here. Bang, coca, cola. That looked pretty nice. Nothing wrong with that. I did. See? That was good tempo. That was the best tempo I've ever seen ever. Yeah, that was nice. Wait a minute. Maybe I'm in the President's Cup this week. People would be so mad if I showed my face there.
2:16:25Pat McAfee:I will stay away, but I will watch the hell out of you guys this weekend. Thank you for representing our country. Thank you for taking the time. And tell the boys we need it. Hey, we need it. We got you. We got you. Maybe karaoke last night, the national anthem, too. What the fuck? There's so many different answers. I thought that was a cop-out answer, though. I felt like that was too easy. Okay, so you want Scott's staff? You said, give me the impossible one. I like it. Is Scottie paying for dinners? Good question. No, we have team dinner now. A PGA? Unfortunately. PGA plays for a team dinner?
2:16:59Pat McAfee:PGA card. Yeah. Oh, let's run that up, yeah. Big tips, too, because people working there, obviously, you know, they need that, so let's make sure the PGA's tipping it off. I think Roll App would be pumped about that. Take care of this. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. All right, let's go get a win, Chris. Thank you for joining us, brother. All right. Thank you, guys. Thanks for having me. Ladies and gentlemen, former lacrosse player. He's out of here. Chris Goddard. Yeah, Chris. Okay, I like our team. He's a good kid. Big time. 84. We haven't lost to this since 1984. No, it's been a long time. It is like the 90s.
2:17:31It was before 2000 for sure. I think our lowest ranked guy is ranked higher than their highest ranked guy.
2:17:39Pat McAfee:No, because they got a couple guys from Korea. Rhea. Siwoo's ranked high. Yep. Minwoo. Ryan Fox. Siwoo. They got a couple. Hadaki's ranked high. Yeah, they got like three guys that are up amongst that. But yeah, allegedly like the top eight ranked guys are all American. So. I ain't worried about that. What do you jump out to an early lead? What's that? I ain't worried about that team. They need to be. Nah. We're fresh off of Ryder Cup. We better beat that ass. Ass beating, dude. Ryder Cup was maybe the most embarrassing performance for Team USA on U.S. soil that they've had in a long, long time.
2:18:10Pat McAfee:and every time I see one of these golfers, okay, because everybody knows how I operate, I like to know a little bit about everything so I can talk to anybody about anything. But when I'm talking to these people about things that I don't know a lot about and I'm in the little bit about part, I unload everything I got, okay? So everything I got's coming out. I get to these golfers. First of all, I talk about the Coca-Cola swing thoughts, obviously the majors and the history and everything. and then I always end it with, hey, Team USA Golf, we need to fucking, we need to start winning that. Always.
2:18:45Pat McAfee:It's on the way out, you know. Weigh in, hey, holy hell, good to see you. Congrats on all the success. You know, we're talking about your swing, your win, everything that I got, unload, unload. You see me coming out of the fucking pocket, all that, you know. I'm dropping it all. I'm doing it all. I'm doing it all. And at the very end, it's always, can't be fucking losing whenever you're representing USA. They all say, you're preaching to the choir. That's how they all say it. I go, all right, good luck and then I walk away. Same convo. I think they all do feel a bit embarrassed for what happened at the Riding Cup.
2:19:13Pat McAfee:So I think this time we have a different mindset. Not that we should win, but I think the boys are very much like, hey, we can't be letting what happened at the Riding Cup ever happen again. So I think they're locked in from my understanding. Speaking of locked in, we thought for sure Monday night we'd be seeing the bag man and his dad man in the arm wrestling for Chicago because Caleb is not back. We don't know yet, actually. That has not been announced. But he's obviously dealing with a hamstring. Tyson Bajit in concussion protocol. Oh, what? Whoa. Yeah, so he is in concussion protocol. Okay.
2:19:50Pat McAfee:From our understanding of concussion protocol, probably going to miss a week. That's kind of been the norm with this entire thing in the modern era with the new concussion protocols. Case Keenum now playing quarterback. I don't think this is a bad thing. I'm all of a sudden thinking to myself, Case Keenum, Ben Johnson's offense Yeah We should be right on With a week to prepare too He knows all week There's a good chance He's going to be playing This is one of those older guys Who's a backup quarterback He's a pro He's doing backup quarterback commercials Isn't Case been in those Those backup quarterback commercials Yeah, sub you in Him and DeVito Yeah Yeah So, I mean he's Fuck that I want the bag man I want the bag man too Fuck that He's got a concussion He'll be fine We've all had concussions He's the bag man Fuck's the game I'm sick of the flex not being able to happen until week 13.
2:20:42Fuck this. I don't want to see Case Keenum on Monday night fucking football in 2026. This sucks. It's week three, man. Come on. You're right. It's early. Early days, isn't it? Oh. I think Caleb still might make it.
2:21:00Pat McAfee:Yeah, it's Case Keenum, though, in a Ben Johnson offense. I would have done unspeakable things a month ago for Case Keenum in a Ben Johnson offense on a Monday night. Yeah, exactly. Whenever we didn't have ball. That was a fucking month ago. Do you see the games we have Saturday? Do you see the college football action we have? Do you see the games leading up to Monday Night Football? That sucks. Yeah, well, it would certainly be great to showcase Chicago. We'll see Ben Johnson. Caleb has not been ruled out. And then on the other side coming in, we've got stars galore. Eagles coming to town. That'll be cool.
2:21:32Pat McAfee:Sirianni on Monday Night Football. Show time. They've looked like shit. think about how we 2-0. This is the same thing how they look when they won a Super Bowl. 2-0. Exactly. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes they go 10-1 and then finish the season 0-7. Think about how we would have been talking about this Rams game and the Giants game last night if we knew Jameis was the starter going into it. That's what we have on our hands. Ben Johnson. You've got to give faith to Ben Johnson. Case Keenum, he could spin that thing. He has a little Goff in him, doesn't he? Case Keenum. Case Keenum's got a little Jerry Goff in him.
2:22:08He was dealing in the preseason. You guys need to watch your mouth. Thank you. Okay, Case Keenum and Jared Goff. Are we serious? Yes, Case Keenum had one good season. You didn't see him at Houston, brother. When he was at the University of Houston, brother.
2:22:24Pat McAfee:1995? Yep, it was before the Minnesota Miracle where Stephon Diggs, who, by the way, in the end zone. He's got three touchdowns in two weeks. for a matter. Stephon Diggs is just in the end zone right now. That is where you can find him. But yeah, Case Keenum had the celebration. Perfect ball. Stephon Diggs. 2017, man. That was almost a decade ago. Exactly. The guy knows exactly. He knows everything. He's been there. He's done that. Is that Ertz supposed to be coming back? Case hasn't thrown a pass in the NFL since 2024. See? Just like Aaron Donald. Sorry, sorry, sorry. The 2023 season. That's the problem.
2:23:00We can't have a long in the tooth Monday Night Football game. He did not throw a pass in the 2024 season or the 2025 season. They should just let the bag man play. But Aaron Donald did it too, so. That's not, so. It's the protocol, sir. Let Caleb play. Who gives a shit? His dad is a champion arm wrestler. You think he fucking cares? Concussion? Cut his penis off. Cut his leg off and he'd go out there and play shit.
2:23:22Pat McAfee:I understand that the bag man is tough. He comes from a tough family. Tougher than shit. He's got an arm sleeve. And he's a playmaker. You don't see that in the NFL. Yeah, I agree. You see that in college. Right. Yeah, you don't see that in the NFL. At all. So let him play. But we would like the best for Tyson Bajin. We'd like to go on the record for saying that. If it were up to him, he would play with a concussion on Sunday. A bad one, too. We don't know that. I know that. I think he'd be okay if he was coming off the field puking after every possession because his head hurts so bad and he could barely even see out there.
2:23:56The bag man wants to play.
2:23:57Pat McAfee:And we would like bag man to play. Bad. But it does appear as if he's probably not going to be playing in the NFL this upcoming Monday night. God damn it. All right, let's get out of here. Don't want to ruin everybody's dog. I didn't have Ben Johnson just play. He played quarterback in college. Yeah, he can do it. He can run his system. We will announce the shite division tomorrow. Okay. We got wholesale changes to the shite division. Had to. What? Had to, yeah. Colts aren't there anymore? Colts moved out? TBD. Went to overtime with the Chiefs, man. I agree. So that's the thing. We've actually started to develop promotion and relegation ways for the shite division.
2:24:39Pat McAfee:So we're already kind of developing systems. We don't want to give away what the systems are to pick the shite division because then you could start projecting it before us debuting it tomorrow. But just know. That might be a good thing. Brand new shite division coming out tomorrow. What's that? I would like to see people just sending in, submitting their shite division. Oh, okay, yeah. Why don't you try to guess what our shite division is? There you go. Use hashtag program shite division. I like this. And try to predict what four teams we will be announcing are in our official shite division tomorrow.
2:25:10Pat McAfee:Question, how are we spelling shite in this hashtag? Hashtag P-R-O-G-R-U-M-S-H-I-T-E-D-I-V-I-S-I-O-N. No ding. Glad we clarified that. hashtag P-R-O-G-R-U-M-S-H-I-T-E-D-I-V-I-S-I-O-N. If you get it right, you can win something from the Thunderdome. There you go. We will debut our brand new shite division tomorrow. If you were able to predict it first on X using the hashtag program shite division, you will win something autographed from the Thunderdome that we are going to be very bummed out about getting out of here. Very bummed out. Something in here. Sucks. I like that elephant. Nope. Elephant really ties the room together.
2:26:07Pat McAfee:Elephant will not be given away. That thing's staying. Elephant will be here for a long time. Cuzzy to Buffalo will also remain in the Thunderdome. But I'm sure we could find something around here that we love mightily that we will sign and give away. Yeah, we should just give away an NFL flag football that we signed. I mean, they're awesome. I was going to say maybe one of the For the Brand ones because these things are kind of in vogue right now. No, there's a lot of other poopy stuff we can give away. No, no, there's no poopy stuff. We like everything that's here. That's why this is such a big deal.
2:26:38Yeah, like that Subway golf bag.
2:26:41Pat McAfee:That's not the idea. We can't give that away. Good momento. We can't give that away. We're using it. There's a piece of wood on the wall. We can give that away. No! Oh, you don't want to watch your mouth. The first ever field goal post? Yeah. That is from the first ever football game. That was the upright from the first ever football game, a piece of it at least. And the reason why we know that is somebody sent that to us and wrote in a letter saying what it was. Yeah. Exactly. They're full of shit. That's a piece of wood they found in the woods. They don't need it anymore. It's not a piece of dirt.
2:27:14They sent us jokes floating at the lagoon all the time. No, that is not a deal.
2:27:19Pat McAfee:What kind of gagoon are you going to? So we can sign that if they win this contest. No, we're keeping the upright from the first ever football game in the Thunderdome. Now, if you have the first ever upright, we would like to know if this was from the lagoon. Does that fit? Yeah, we would like to know if this is from the lagoon or not. I'm sure there's something in here that we really, really love that we don't want to give up. Got that sweet Subway football. Yeah, the sandwich bowl. That sweet subway football. Okay. Yeah, that'll probably be a part of it. I think that might be a good thing. No, we're not giving those up.
2:27:57Those are a prototype. The fuck? We're not giving up the cap. Where's the Russell Wilson ball gown? What's the tip? Maybe that Yukon Huskies helmet? No. We're lighting a candle. There's a couple helmets back here. Maybe this whole fan helmet. No Shoes Nation helmet?
2:28:11Pat McAfee:No, that's my favorite helmet. I didn't say I was going to give anything from Kenny Chesney away. I didn't even know he had that. That surfboard's cool. Nope. What is that? Surfboard. You're dropping it off. The surfboard stays. There's got to be some ridiculousness. There's a Kennywood sign we can definitely give away. All right. Okay. Listen. Hashtag. No. We're not doing that. We're not doing the Hall of Fame helmet. We like that. We have some jam stuff. Oh, yeah. There you go. A couple jumbo times. Yeah, we have some jam stuff we can certainly move from. Yeah. Sign knows. We're not giving up a plum helmet.
2:28:47Pat McAfee:But just so everybody knows, Whippewl 5A football, the Plum Mustangs are a problem. They're going to want to run that video, so I tried not to swear in the middle of that. The Plum Mustangs, problematic. Little Johnny Nonnenberg. Call him Johnny Football. This guy, 700 yards or something like that. I think maybe he's on top of Whippewl. I think he's number one quarterback in Whippewl. Touchdowns as well. I believe he's number one quarterback in Whippewl. I've literally known John since he was just... Little Johnny Nani? Little Johnny Nani is number one quarterback, I think, in 5A football right now.
2:29:21Pat McAfee:I think. Isn't that absurd to think about? That's unbelievable. Yeah, we're pounding teams, too. I'm very excited about that. I am very excited about the Plum Mustang football team just being very good at the football. And we have a quarterback. I guess it's an exciting style of football. I think we're running air-raid offense. Hell yeah. I love high school. The go-go offense? Love high school football. It's the best. Yeah, it is. I'll tell you what. It's great in Plum right now. And I'm happy that is the case. We need to keep doing that. We need to get back to a Plum Mustang high school football game.
2:29:49Pat McAfee:I'm sure that'll be feasible with the schedule that we currently have. Yeah, for sure. You probably watched those, I would assume. Those are definitely streaming on YouTube or something. Yeah, game day Saturday morning. They should be streaming them somewhere. Yeah, I watch my brother's games on YouTube on Friday night. How's he doing? They're doing all right. How do you think they would do against Johnny Nani and the Plum Mustangs who have just been absolutely bodying folks on the football field. I don't know because I haven't got eyes on Johnny Nani. Well, just know he's at the top of the class.
2:30:21Pat McAfee:He's up there. Never seen that before. Plum Mustang quarterback. Right there at the top of touchdowns and yards. I think yards-wise, he has like 30 less attempts than like the person who's above him or whatever. Maybe 40 less attempts. A lot of explosives. You know the family? Naniberg? Actually, 60 less attempts. 60 less attempts than the people above him whenever it comes to yards. So, like, I don't even think he's playing fourth quarters maybe. And he's – Goddamn. That doesn't happen for – I mean, this is a brand-new era of Mustang football. It's really happened. But, yeah, his dad was my gym coach, also my volleyball coach.
2:30:53Pat McAfee:He's also a part of the We're All Mustangs Here Fund where he helps me – helps Phil, Eddie Edwards, and Keith Nonnenberg. Coach Nonnenberg are the three that are basically voting on where the money goes for the World Mustangs Here Fund, where we're trying to help Plum Athletics as much as possible. I think we're up over$2.5 or$3 million donated back to the athletics department. It's certainly showing. Our soccer team's unbelievable. I think we have a flag football team that's, like, unbelievable right now. Football team, this is the best we've been long time. I mean, long, long time. So we are all trying to invest in sports in Plum as much as possible.
2:31:33Pat McAfee:The Jumbotron, right? Yeah, got a brand-new judge from Daktronic, to work in deals we've earned. But they do phenomenal stuff. Yeah, it's like we're trying our best to invest in the future athletes in Plum. And I think we're starting to kind of see the fruits of the entire investment. And our football team, John Nonnenberg in particular, is at the top. It's crazy, though. His dad will text me some stuff that's floating around the Internet about these high school quarterbacks, like the way teams, like especially in pittsburgh like other schools with the way social media is now like the things that they're doing the john who's a high school quarterback these people need to stay off the internet that's what i'm saying everyone needs to stay off gotta love it's part of the game yeah but the amount of shit talk the memes now with what they're able to do like yeah john norm well i don't know if they need to shut the entire internet down because we're actually pretty we're on the internet uh currently right now we're currently on the internet only on the internet but we need John Notenberg to not worry about any of that.
2:32:31Pat McAfee:It's locked in. We don't need any Mustang boys to worry about that. We just need to keep it going. Just keep rolling. And I'll tell you what, Centerville Elks want some. Mustangs will come spin the rock all over that field too if you'd like us to, AJ. Where did Terrell Pryor go? I saw that stuff with him. He had to be unbelievable. The greatest high school athlete that has ever existed. Jeanette or Jeanette? Yeah, he was Jeanette Jayhawk. He was the number one quarterback in his class and then he was also a five-star basketball player too. He was supposed to come to West Virginia, I thought, because we were going to let him play hoops.
2:33:02Well, he's going to be a four-year starter at Ohio State, but he got a tattoo.
2:33:05Pat McAfee:Yeah, I can't do that, especially nowadays, the way that's viewed, not good. Yeah, he was able to transition right to wide receiver, which is easy, I guess. That's just easy to do. No problem there. So many good athletes. John Donenberg might be the next big quarterback. Let's go. Nice. Out of Western Pennsylvania. His dad, high school pitcher. Oh, yeah? Old Mr. Nonnenberg. He's in the blood. Is he an underclassman? Yeah, I think he's a junior. So he's going to be asking you for NIL money to stay at Plum next year? He's a Plum. He's a Plum. He's a Plum boy. True and true. That's why this social media stuff, I don't feel that bad because these kids are all making money now.
2:33:45I don't know how much money John Nonnenberg's making.
2:33:48Pat McAfee:He deserves all of it if he's getting it. Just know John Nonnenberg's grandma, Mrs. Nonnenberg. Is she like Florida? South Florida? Mrs. Nonnenberg. Come on, Mrs. Nonnenberg. No, Mrs. Nonnenberg, she was coaching or teaching at Plum for 30 years. The Nonnenberg family has been literally inside of the Plum High School system for 50 years. You think Johnny Nonny, after doing what he's doing for the Plum Mustangs, is going to get up and leave? To where is he going to go? Central Catholic? I was just going to say, what if they come calling and say, hey, we think you might be the next Danny Murillo.
2:34:23That's the only place that could do it. It'd be hard to turn down. I was thinking AQ Shipley might give him some money to go to his high school. He ain't going to Moon. You think AQ's giving anything to Moon?
2:34:34Pat McAfee:By the way, AQ is not giving anything, but they do have a big donor over there at Moon. Oh, beautiful. Beautiful facility. They've built a bunch up over there at Moon. Donardo? No, it's not Donardo or AQ. AQ's reaping the benefits of it, though. Moon's doing whatever. I don't know if AQ's giving any money at all, but they have full investment in there. So to your point about NIL, it's like, we are Mustangs here. We're all Mustangs here. We are investing in sports in high school. Now, granted, we're not paying the kids directly. We're getting them, you know, stuff, whether it's new this, new that, brand new this, brand new that.
2:35:05Pat McAfee:Hey, whatever just entices people to stay with sports. Like I am, I hope that whenever it's all said and done is I am somebody who was very, very, very pro youth in sports. like very however we keep people active however we keep them engaged however we keep them in sports because sports are the greatest thing it's very easy to get lazy right now e-bikes these kids aren't even fucking pedaling bikes anymore i mean how where are we building leg muscles at why are we everything else you can make so much money doing things just not moving literally you just sit there and make a bunch of money these kids all see this and oh so intelligent and uh they're so ahead of their time than what we were at the time for what they're available to do so i just want to keep you know athletics fitness sports like a real thing for the next generation really really want that i know that's not what's said you know about like when i attend a youth fitness event where there's a lot of monies happening and maybe next generation can have their own aggro crag goal and keep that but i genuinely believe that i i feel like uh i hate talking about this type of stuff because you know it's like a pat on my back but i put my money where my mouth is with that entire thing.
2:36:13Pat McAfee:And I will continue to do that. And the Plum Mustangs are fucking balling right now. And I like that. I like that a lot. But yeah, we got another year of Johnny Nani at Plum. Eat shit, Foxy. Maybe. Some breaking news. Further testing today revealed Giants quarterback Jackson's knee injury is worse than initially. Oh, no! And the team in Dart now are facing the possibility of season-ending knee surgery. No more news to me. Of all the quarterback injuries suffered in week two, Darts just turning out to easily be the most significant. Every time we have read an update on a lot of these guys' injuries, it has been like sigh of relief, avoided whatever.
2:36:50Pat McAfee:This is the first one we've heard where it's like, hey, this might be season eight. That knee bent was obviously so unnatural for your knee to do hyperextension sideways. I think as we all saw it, we didn't think it was Jackson Dart's fault. We didn't think he was reckless. We just think this is something that can happen in football, and it's just terrible timing as he's getting a knee right to the outside of his knee as he's floating through air. Love that he walked off. I mean, I guess we'll find out what all the injuries were. The fact that he did walk off, we will say wildly tough. But this is a bummer.
2:37:25Pat McAfee:This is a bummer coming out of last night when we thought springed MCL a couple weeks. Obviously, it sounds like it's a lot more. Yeah, injuries suck. We always talk about it. It's going to happen just because of the nature of the game. and like damn near all of us were on the Giants going into this game and we know how high we were on the Rams coming into this season. So that lets you know how impressive they were in Harbaugh's debut as the head coach. So just how he came out and played against the Cowboys for this to be what happened so early in the game and now potentially derailing this season for Jackson Dart.
2:37:54Sucks for him. You can tell the work he put in this offseason to be ready for this moment. Hopefully, you know, he bounces back sooner or later. I thought he would avoid the serious damage because, you know, his foot wasn't planted in the ground when he took this shot but uh this absolutely sucks hey
2:38:08Pat McAfee:godspeed jackson and giants fans i mean that is a especially with all the hype and the amount of success you saw early there against cali's like this is a sustainable winning style of football and we actually had a big takeaway about jackson dart might be able to survive this style turns out standard drop back it happens dangerous sport obviously injuries are inevitable seemingly and now we lose another massive quarterback from the league. Damn. So. Now. Got to go trade for something. Yeah, now it's like, hey, you can't roll with Jameis all season. So this might be an Anthony Richardson conversation.
2:38:47Now you can't. Yeah, now it's actually legitimate. Patriots have Tommy DeVito. Who's been there, but not with Harbaugh.
2:38:53Pat McAfee:But not with Harbaugh, yeah. McCarthy should be a real option, yeah. Yeah, because Michigan man, that is, and Jim Harbaugh said what? best. Yeah, but he's not very good. You want to hear like Snoop Huntley? Yeah, but he might be good if he's in this system. Slim Pickens, Tony, right at this point. But I mean, he can't be good. He's not good in the KOC system, but he's going to be good in this one. Well, I mean, he got Ricard and Scadaboo back there. You'd hope he's just all you got to have a threat to be able to run for this offense to be able to go, which is why Anthony Richardson feels like a very very good option there.
2:39:25Pat McAfee:Maybe Riley Leonard even if it's not. I mean, Anthony Richardson I guess is the one who's been on the trade block here, allegedly in Indianapolis. But what we're just handing the ball off in threat of run. And then you've got to build on that as the season goes, hopefully with Anthony Richardson. Now there are some parts of games that are TBD of Anthony Richardson's game that we don't know. We thought he had potentially gotten over the corner of, because he hasn't played a lot of football. Like he played a preseason game and had no idea blitz was coming right in his face. I mean, it was like maybe the most obvious blitz, and he had no idea it was coming, but we had heard stories.
2:40:03Pat McAfee:Coming out of camp, he's acting perfectly. Bang, separates finger, gets hurt out of nowhere. He's gone. It's like, man, he's so close to me. He's so close, so close, so close. Doesn't get the reps. You put him in that offense, he's a big body. He's massively athletic. The upside is still very much there. I think we all became believers after we heard with the way he was operating. Since coming back, since the freak injury that happened in warm-ups at the stadium, him all he has said I just want to get better for the team I just want to do this I want to do this I mean maybe it is Anthony Richardson who ends up getting traded out there or maybe it's a veteran quarterback that John Harbaugh has seen before yeah someone who was in Matt Nagy's system last year Gardner Minshew he was uh he's what the backup in Arizona but Carson Beck played really well so you assume they can kind of let go of Gardner have Carson be that number one backup and then Minshew already knows the Nagy kind of offense and he has that threat where he can move a little bit similar to ar where you can move justin fields is with the chiefs right now so he's kind of probably got the same terminology is that naggy what naggy's doing right now has been a starter before yeah and if they're gonna he's quite the threat to run yeah he's fastest guy on the field whenever he's running and if he just buys into the fact that he is a running quarterback now chiefs ain't letting leave my homes he was on that formation too yeah my homes coming you know obviously moms look great but you you know yeah who's available unless they love Not smart.
2:41:22You're not going to be excited about whoever it is.
2:41:24Pat McAfee:I think if Anthony Richardson gets straight over there, I think there's excitement. Giants fans, they will hate that. I mean, it's September 22nd at this point, so the pickings are slim. I mean, I'm not a Giants fan, but I would think they would be more excited like a J.J. McCarthy. And they're on opposite ends of the spectrum. That's why it's such a crap shooting league. Like, Anthony Richardson didn't have the experience in college. We thought, you know, maybe he gets playing time to develop all those special traits. J.J. McCarthy played a ton of reps in college, played a ton of big games, and they still struggled early on in their career at least.
2:41:56But maybe, you know, a fresh start, new system, new weapons, new expectations. Now, obviously, those lights are very, very bright in New York. So everybody's going to talk about you every day. So, I mean.
2:42:06Pat McAfee:But expectations right now are, hey, you just got to the building. I mean, that's actually like when Baker got traded to L.A. on a Monday and then he was playing on Thursday. Like the expectations were Baker's not going to have a clue what he does, comes out and balls. that could be a nice little jump start for both these guys trying to find their way and you know we pointed out some obvious things on this show about anthony richardson whenever he was the starting quarterback for an nfl team after being picked four five four pick number four overall there were some situations where he was growing and developing and maturing right in front of our eyes and doing things that we had never seen before both in a good way and in a like that's not what we're doing around here i do feel like he has matured mightily it's like will he find a spot now to play some football and do his thing?
2:42:47Pat McAfee:Maybe. JJ, though, with the Harbaugh connection? Maybe. What if they do? Phil Rivers. I'm joking. I'm joking. Why not? What's Pavia doing? I don't know. You want us to answer that question? We can throw some guesses out. No, let's not do a brainstorming idea. Let's not do a brainstorming idea. Okay, let's get out of here. Remember, on X, hashtag P-R-O-G-R-U-M S-H-I-T-E D-I-V-I-S-I-O-N. Tell us who you think the four teams are. They're going to be in our official shite division. You can get promoted. You can certainly get relegated. And if you continue to be shite, you can live in the shite division.
2:43:31Pat McAfee:Wholesale changes from week one to week two. That's the only tips we will give. Cannot wait to debut that tomorrow. We also have AQ Shipley, J.J. Watt. And I think we have a couple other guests popping by. Big shout out to Devontae Adams coming through today. We learned that in real time during the show. Coach Golden coming through. Junior obviously stops by. Coach Skipper, Pat Murphy comes through. What a Tuesday. We're incredibly thankful and lucky that we get to do this. Thank you all. It is because of all of you that we get to do this. I'm excited to see who everybody thinks is in the hashtag program shite division.
2:44:06Pat McAfee:Yeah. And I'm excited to see what we roll out there. We might already know. They'll get at least one right. I know that. Who's that? Falcons. Probably a couple. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice in my changer life. We're in this thing together. There's three other teams. Atlanta. The Atlanta fan base, if they get a hold of this shite division, I mean, it's going to be Falcons, Atlanta, Stefanski's team, Matt Ryan's team. Dirty Birds. Yeah, I'm excited. Yeah, Dirty Birds. I'm excited to see how people get creative with this because it is the internet. And then I'm excited to see if anybody gets it right and wins.
2:44:36Pat McAfee:And autographs, super important thing that isn't just laying around as junk here in the Thunderdome. It's not like football. Thank you. We love you. We'll see you tomorrow. Team on me. Team on three. I love football, baby. One, two, three. Team. Goodbye.
