In short

Topic

  1. Monday Night Football recap: Bears’ 27-7 win over the Eagles, driven by Case Keenum’s first start in over a thousand days and Ben Johnson’s offense.
  2. Eagles problems: Eagles’ defense failing to pressure/impact, plus frustration over multiple play callers and perceived lack of offensive continuity around Jalen Hurts.
  3. Betting/league trends: discussion of home underdog success and “teams lose by 20 then cover/perform well next week.”
  4. MLB postseason preview: Wild Card matchups and how depth/pitching environments shape outcomes; also NHL Opening Night preview.

Guests (backgrounds)

  • Mark DeRosa: MLB Network “The Hot Stove” host; former MLB player/analyst.
  • Rece Davis: College GameDay host (college football TV host; appears for the MLB/NFL segment).
  • Erik Johnson: NHL analyst/figure (appears for NHL Opening Night preview).
  • Darius Butler: former NFL defensive back; 9-year NFL vet; provides football analysis.
  • AJ Hawk: former NFL linebacker; provides football analysis.

Key claims

  • Keenum + Ben Johnson “cooked” the Eagles defense; Keenum was efficient (noted as 11-for-11 early, 145 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT) and made correct reads vs the blitz.
  • Eagles’ expensive defensive front (Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, etc.) failed to impact the game; Nick Sirianni’s late-hit moment with Jalen Hurts is framed as pivotal.
  • Eagles’ offense/quarterback situation is hurt by constant play-caller turnover (10 different play callers in 11 years), making Hurts’ learning curve unsustainable.
  • MLB: Wild Card baseball is unpredictable, but teams with depth (Rays, Brewers, Dodgers, Guardians) are better positioned; pitching matchups and bullpen depth matter.
  • MLB series focus: Phillies-Braves starts with Chris Sale; Yankees-Red Sox hinges on Yankees pitching and the absence of Aaron Judge; Cubs-Padres is expected to be high-scoring with strong bullpens.

Notable examples

  • Bears’ offensive creativity: motions early, end-arounds/fakes, and sustained drives; Saquon Barkley’s run production is mentioned despite the loss.
  • Yankees: Judge’s right calf keeps him out; Boone’s roster decisions are discussed.
  • MLB environments: Rays’ Tropicana “dungeon” described; Guardians framed as low-payroll “do more with less.”

0:00Pat McAfee:And welcome to our humble about the DraftKings Thunderdome. On this big sports Tuesday, September 29, 2026, this sports program begins now. Football! It is obviously the sport that we are so incredibly lucky to talk about on a normal basis. last night. Football had an incredible tale of another old man going onto a football field and performing perfectly for a team that certainly needed it on primetime football against an undefeated Eagles team. 38-year-old Case Keenum makes his first start in first playing time over a thousand days in slices and dices of Philadelphia Eagles defense that we obviously all hold in incredibly high regard.

0:46Pat McAfee:He and Ben Johnson were able to cook in primetime because Ben johnson is a super genius he is a offensive mastermind he got the ball to all of his different playmakers in a variety of different ways and the philadelphia eagles defense was just spinning now for the first time since the beginning of the philadelphia eagles before vince papali played wow there's a lot before vince papali that's great shout out vince papali shout out since before vince papali all the way to the beginning they've never gone three games no turner this is a historically terrible Eagles defense right now, but I don't need that to be the conversation point.

1:24Pat McAfee:It needs to be that Case Keenum made him look that way. Ben Johnson made him look that way. Now, Sirianni had a moment after his quarterback got cheap-shotted for sure, where he was caught calling somebody a couple phrases that mean very important to society and very soft, I think is what he was saying in this particular time. We don't know who he was talking to, a potential player or maybe he was sending that one to ben johnson and then just kind of it we're literally making that up we do not know who he said that to we assume it was the player he did not say to ben johnson but that moment in time is such a pivotal time of the game when jalen hurts gets hit late certainly late full cell pull i mean full body floating through sky i'm flying through the right now after a cheap shot.

2:12Pat McAfee:Boom! Bang! Head smacked. Obviously the unk calls him into the blue tent while we were calling the game on the sideline for a rehearsal of potential future ones, especially in the big game that's around the corner in February. Our first thought was it didn't look like he was in a bad spot. It didn't look like he was knocked unconscious. Was he a big hit? Sure. They take him off the field, put him into the blue tent. Andy Dalton comes in to cap off a drive that started at the three, ends up at the two, throws a pick to Thiena, and all of a sudden, it's like if they can't score after a 95-yard drive and Jalen Hurts is getting taken off the field after a late hit into the blue tent and Andy Dalton's throwing it, whenever you're this close and you have Saquon Barkley behind you averaging like seven yards a carry, feels like it might not be the Eagles' night across the board, but Case Keenum was going to force it into them.

3:04Pat McAfee:Every single play, they seemingly had a purpose and a reason and was a setup for a future play. And this is why Ben Johnson, I think, was probably feeling a little bit disrespected when everybody was worried about, hey, he's never had a backup quarterback play his offense. He's never had to do that. Case Keenum, seemingly perfect guy to operate it. Him and his kids last night, him and his family last night, him having that massive win. One last go, maybe another one around the corner. Maybe another one around the corner. Hamstrings are a fickle thing. An interesting thing is Caleb Williams is going to try to recover and rehab as quickly as possible.

3:36Pat McAfee:But any time a muscle is pulled, especially that one with how long it is, you don't know when perfect's coming back, and you don't know when it's going to pop up again. Case Keenum, what a stud. What a night in Chicago. What an environment. Yeah, unbelievable. Perfect weather. The place was rocking. What a Monday night football. The toxic table's here at Boston Corner and at Ty Schmidt. Ty, we were talking about it a little bit last night, but if Ben Johnson is able to do that with Case Keenum, I think Ben Johnson's probably going to have the Bears offense in a pretty good spot for a long time, regardless of what happens at the starting position.

4:09Yeah, I don't think I ever really had doubts necessarily about Ben Johnson, but after last night, that kind of just capped it off. Like, you just can't doubt this guy. It doesn't matter what the situation is. It really doesn't matter who he's got playing quarterback. Like, people were acting like, you know, I mean, again, a thousand days without playing quarterback or whatever it was for Case Keenum is a long time, but he looked like he's started 100 games in a row in the NFL, like currently. I mean, he was unbelievable. I think, what, he had five completions. Like, they came out just throwing the ball.

4:39They put it on Case Keenum's shoulders, and that offense operated like gangbusters. It didn't matter who was in there last year.

4:45Pat McAfee:Yeah, and everybody thought Vic Fangio was going to pack the box because Case Keenum's there, and they got a two-headed thoroughbred back there in Swift and Manungai, which they do. Let's not act like they do not with a great offensive line. They come out spinning it, and Fangio was bringing it. Case Keenum versus the Blitz yesterday, Hembo Stat, 11 for 11. 145 yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions. And I think he even had a rich gain in one of these at one point. Case Keenum in bag, understanding exactly where he has to go. Let's go to a nine-year NFL vet, a man who played all over the secondary, Darius J.

5:19Pat McAfee:Butler. Good to see you. Case Keenum, obviously against the Blitz is crazy, but that's just knowing where to go. Hot route, hot route whenever somebody comes. Is that the big advantage that these experienced guys have, maybe over a younger backup quarterback? Absolutely. Been around a while. I've been in a few different systems. I've seen all the different defenses. Yeah, I was shocked as well that he came out spinning the ball, throwing the ball over 30 times. They didn't actually run the ball as well as I thought until late when they kind of had to put the game away. But Ben Johnson, I mean, calling it great, but you got to go out there and play.

5:48You got to have a trigger man that can actually make the reads, make the throws. The young guys on the outside showed up as well. Luther Burden had a great game. Khalif Raymond showed up, had some big-time plays. Roma Doomsday had the big drop in the end zone, but he made some big catches down the stretch as well. So just getting everybody involved, and that's tough as a defense when you can't just circle a guy. Hey, let's stop number 10. Let's double him in the red area. Or third down, let's stop this guy. It was just a mixed bag from the beginning. It was like he was calling his first 15 for the entire game, and the Eagles never got going.

6:18And for all that money that they've invested in that defensive front, Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, make the move for Gennard, for them to not have an impact on this game or really on this season so far, got to be incredibly disappointing for Nick Sirianni and the Eagles.

6:31Pat McAfee:Let's go to one half of the hammer. Cowboys AP tone under, obviously, ends up being the play, 27-7. And Chicago Bears plus three and a half, also the winning play last night on Monday Night Football. Monday Night Countdown, they have us predict the final scores as well. Sure. So I thought Eagles win, but 2017, I'm clearly on Bears plus three and a half, which ended up being my pick in this entire thing. Also love the under going into it all. So I think whenever you were projecting the night, we could have never expected Case Keenum to be like that. No. I mean, could have never expected. Maybe Ben Johnson and Case Keenum and maybe the boys in the locker room did, which that's why a locker room is the best place on earth because they will buy in and believe Joe Thomas.

7:16Pat McAfee:I mean, just told an incredible story about finding out very late into his career with Cleveland Browns that we're never going to win here. It's been over a decade plus and he never had. And I think he'd already been on maybe an 0-16 team at that point. It's like you can buy in to anything when you're in a team, especially when everybody's rowing in the same direction. We need buy-in. We need everybody on the same page so we can be the most powerful current that we can have. You know, if everybody's going in the same way, this idea, even if it's not your favorite one, can become better than it's ever going to be.

7:43Pat McAfee:So I assume the locker room believed in Case Keenum to be great. I assumed they were going to pick him up. Outside of it, it was hard to just buy into the fact that Case Keenum was going to come in there and slice and dice. So I think a lot of people were picking the Eagles to win. Bears fans are having a good time. Oh, yeah. Oh, they were having a good time. Shout out to the Bears fans getting to enjoy this, especially with a third string quarterback. Yeah. Right? I guess that's why he's good. Yeah, not going forward. No, he's definitely. Backup now. I heard some things last night. Whoa. People made some calls, but no.

8:13Caleb's the guy.

8:15Pat McAfee:No, no. Not about B.A.G. I think people were saying. Oh, number one guy. Yeah, yeah. That's what people were saying. They were. But nonetheless, couldn't project the Bears to do what they did last night. Shout out to Bears fans getting to enjoy the hell out of the ass beating they put on Monday Night Football in their home in a perfect evening in Chicago. The under felt inevitable, though. And I think, did people win last night or did people lose their asses this weekend to the sports books?

8:40Darius Butler:People lost their asses. Oh, never would I get. They are always on the over and the favorite. I mean, that's just kind of how people roll. And you talk about, like, yes, maybe people would have thought the Bears would have won or covered last night, but not the way they did it. They ran for 281 two seasons ago against the Eagles. So if they won last night, that's kind of the way that you thought it would have to be. Not through the air, just dominating through the air the entire night with Case Keenum. But no, for the week, the home puppies, roof, roof, roof, just barked all weekend long. Six and two straight up were home dogs, man.

9:15Darius Butler:These are dogs. They're not supposed to win. They are favored to lose. Six and two straight up. 7-1 against the spread in week three where the dogs at home, which is just an incredible stat. They talk about with the vision games how that happens a lot, but not just – this was across the entire NFL board were home dogs. It was kind of the story of the betting weekend in that situation for all of that.

9:39Pat McAfee:Yeah, and Ben Johnson as an underdog I think is pretty good against the spread. Back to his time with the Lions and also with the Bears. outright it's about 50-50 on if they're going to win. But against the spread, he's 18-7 against the spread as a dog. Whenever he's involved in the entire situation. He is a mastermind. And it was on display last night. I mean, you got Luther Burton going on end-around, fake double reverses. Obviously, we're throwing the start. Vic Fangio thinks we're definitely going to come out and try to establish the run like we did last year and everything. It's just like Ben Johnson's brain is kind of evident.

10:17Pat McAfee:Every single time we watch this Bears team, and last night I think bigger than ever. Yeah, it was incredible. And that's like the big thing too is the motions. I remember the first drive. I think they had a motion on their first four or five plays, and it's one of those things that you see. And, you know, Ben Johnson's doing this with his third string, now second, maybe first string quarterback. But still, their ability to do that, it makes you question why every single team doesn't do that. That probably goes into practicing, players, scheme, all those things. But watching the Bears was one thing.

10:44Watching the Eagles is the same thing. Like for you, D-Bot, you mentioned how much money they're spending on their defense with Davis and Renard and Jalen Carter and a couple corners who are probably going to get paid pretty soon as well. It must be so frustrating as an Eagles fan to have to sit through this Eagles offense again with Manning. You almost feel for them a little bit because they have so much skill with Jalen and Devontae Smith, who he's on the sideline not looking too happy. Saquon, who looks awesome in the neck roll, need way more running backs wearing whatever that thing was. But still, for the Eagles fans, you've got to be livid because we're, what, two years removed from them winning the Super Bowl, and it looks like they are years away from that again.

11:23Pat McAfee:Ten different play callers, 11 years. Crazy. Jay Lentz. That's crazy. Going all the way back to college. Yeah, Lane Kiffin started that his freshman year at Alabama, and then Petullo was last year. So from Lane Kiffin to Petullo, Alabama to Philadelphia, ten different play callers. Now, a couple of them have gone on to have great success, obviously. Kelly Moe down there in New Orleans. Kellen Moore and Jalen Hurts had massive success. That's why he became a head coach. Shane Steichen, now the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. He and Jalen Hurts obviously had incredible success. Doug Peterson and Jalen Hurts obviously had some success.

11:57Pat McAfee:So the names there are a lot. But having a different voice every single year, even if the plays or the offense is similar, because I do think they're for a while, this one's seemingly much different than what the Eagles offense has been over the past Jalen Hurts era. Different voices with a different plan, different strategy, different reactions in different situations. I mean, you would just think that a guy would potentially do better if he was to be around the same play caller for multiple years. This guy's supposed to be flushed out of the NFL. You get a rookie quarterback that's drafted high and everybody thinks he's going to be good, and you give him four or five different play callers in his first five years, they're going to say they killed this guy.

12:34Pat McAfee:They're killing this guy. They're killing this guy. And then he ends up being flushed out, and the actual excuse is that guy never really had a chance. He had so many different play colors, so much turnover, so much change. Jalen Hurts has that happening in real time, and they've won a Super Bowl, been to two of them, and he's already Super Bowl MVP. I'm not completely out on Jalen Hurts like a lot of people are because of how much success he's had, but I don't think this is sustainable. To keep that revolving away. I don't think it's like a sustainable thing just to learn a whole new voice, a whole new style, a whole new reaction to things.

13:03Pat McAfee:That just feels like a lot to put on any quarterback, let alone somebody who's already a Super Bowl MVP that's already accomplished it and gotten paid, that just feels – and I don't like making excuses for people, especially somebody who looks as cool as Jalen Hurts looks. Sure. I mean, he's laundry detergent clean whenever he is walking around. He walked in there with sweet buds on, sunglasses, just like the coolest looking guy. So I don't think he needs me to make excuses for him, but that does feel like an insane trend that is happening with Jalen Hurts at quarterback. Yeah, that continuity is a big thing for coaches, for players.

13:41As professionals, it's more of a back-and-forth relationship. Like quarterbacks are going to come in, they're going to have their input. The game plan or the play call is going to have their input as well. Even as a special teams guy, I'm sure that continuity meant something with the guys that you had to work with, just having a different plan, being able to know what my defensive coordinator is thinking in the two-minute drill or in the red area. I can almost know it's going to be one, two, or three calls as opposed to what's going on with Jalen Hurts. But we've seen quarterbacks be successful with it.

14:07We've seen Lamar Jackson be successful. He hasn't won a Super Bowl yet. Justin Herbert, he's had to deal with a bunch of different play callers. And then you look at the Patrick Mahomes, the Josh Allens, the Joe Burrows. Those guys have had the similar voices in their ear for a long time. So it has to be very troubling for Jalen to have to deal with it. Is that 11 or 10 in 11 years? 10 in 11 years.

14:29Pat McAfee:And once again, there are some places and some quarterbacks that have a coordinator around them for longer and have gotten worse somehow. Who's that? Who? Not a good quarterback. I'm talking about Drake May. No, no, no. Are you talking about Jordan Love? We're drawing lines? No, no, no, no. I'm not doing that. Go ahead, comment. Well, just to D-Bud's point, Sam Darnold feels like the only one who's been able to do it and actually have success. Like, of course, now they lost against the Commanders. That's one thing. But he's in year two in Seattle, and he's on his second play caller already. But, you know, he won one with Kubiak last year, and that was what his probably eighth in ten years or whatever.

15:12Pat McAfee:You talk about different styles, though, and Jalen having to learn all this new everything, you know, of a human, even if it's a similar offensive style. Football is football. QBR here on play action with the Kellen Moore, 79.3. Petula last year, 55.1. to start this season, 25. I mean, it's just, you know, when he was with Kelly Moe, cooking. I mean, they were going to cook. They had another guy on those two teams, too. Well, yeah, A.J. Brown, where's he at? You know, is the Eagles offense okay without A.J. Brown? And is the Patriots offense okay without A.J. Brown? Maybe we need to start talking a little bit about A.J.

15:46Pat McAfee:Brown's absence from places on how they do. But also, maybe Jalen just needs to get comfortable with this guy. and maybe they won't get absolutely demolished on Monday Night Football by the Chicago Bears. That was a drumming last night. Oh, yeah. I mean, just an absolute drumming last night by the Bears. Well, and that's very concerning if that's his QBR on play action because that is like the main tenant of like the Matt LaFleur, you know, offense where he comes from. Like that is where the Packers butter their bread is on, you know, long shots down the field on play action. But it's also for the Eagles, like he's a first-time play caller and maybe some more established guys didn't necessarily want to go there.

16:24But in Philly, it's different. They had to have known, hey, if this guy comes in and he's not good from the jump, it immediately turns up to 1 ,000. I mentioned this last night when we were on your bus. I was like, they're going to be egging this guy's house by Halloween. They absolutely are. And then it gets to the point almost where it's like, we want the continuity, but we can't bring this guy back. We can't do it. We got to move on. And so what are you going to do?

16:47Pat McAfee:And on the flip side, Chicago Bears fans are, We got a guy. We got the guy. We got the guy of this entire thing. It was still so fascinating that he picked the Chicago Bears. Like Ben Johnson picked the Bears. Out of all the – could have been a head coach anywhere. Probably three jobs in the entire NFL. Andy Reid. Sean McVay probably at the time. At the time, Baltimore and Pittsburgh. Probably Tomlin and Harbaugh. Yeah. McVay. John Payton would have just gotten hired by the Broncos. Okay, so like 26 jobs. Sirianni. You're after a Super Bowl. So 25 jobs if Ben Johnson really pushed hard for to a building.

17:31Pat McAfee:Hey, listen, my grandma lives next to the facility. She's near and I would like to coach for your team. And he had no care for how that head coach felt or how that building felt. If he was to push for like 25, he would have got him. like push came to shove it would have figured out a way for him to become the head coach of that team somehow that's how they were talking about ben johnson ben johnson was like this guy is the one guaranteed to be the one what he was able to do in detroit with jared goff who got shipped out of town from la crazy everything he did so for him to choose chicago and then the bears fans literally get the reap you know from that decision on monday night this quickly beautiful thing for ball you know because there's a lot of coaches that are supposed to be the next ones that are ass.

18:13Pat McAfee:And there's a lot of places that aren't good fits. And it's like him and Caleb, how are they going to fit together? Well, it seems like it's A-OK. And by the way, I don't think it matters. No. You know, this is like how we used to talk about Kevin O 'Connell with the Vikings. We'll see with him with Kyler Murray. It's like, no, Caleb would definitely do Caleb stuff. And Caleb is an incredible athlete, a freak show quarterback. I think he does want to be the greatest of all time. It was proven last night that Ben Johnson could win with me a quarterback. I mean... Case Keenum sliced the dice. But if I think Ben Johnson knew that Case could throw the way he was throwing.

18:46Pat McAfee:But if for some reason Case Keenum couldn't throw a football last night, I think Ben Johnson would have been able to design something for them to win the game. Like, I genuinely believe that. So before the season when he says, we're going to break the points records, I think that's because Ben Johnson knows that he has it. Now, the torrential downpour game where they only score three points, a lot of people are going to judge them for that. And I guess that kind of counters my entire argument right here, but I guess it was a torrential downpour. but I think no matter who they have at quarterback he knew Case Keenum could spin it obviously Case Keenum was incredibly prepared but I think Bears fans now think to themselves for the next 30 years we're going to be able to just at least compete and win games as opposed to being the shite that we were for a long time because this guy's in our building I think with Ben Johnson we can all see like the play call and the play design when he calls it that's great but the difference and the things that we don't see that we aren't privy to is when we get kind of a peak in post game is like The real culture that he's instilling in that locker room and in those guys.

19:42We saw it on the first touchdown. Was it Burden? Yeah. When they picked him up and carried him six, seven yards. That's mindset. That's physicality. That's toughness. So all the things that you maybe not associate or didn't associate with Ben Johnson before he got to Chicago, before he had that head man on, you hear him speak week in and week out. This is what really can take you over the top. Now, I'm not going to sit here and say you can win a Super Bowl or win multiple Super Bowls or playoff games with anybody at quarterback. I think you do need special players, especially at those big-time positions.

20:11But, yeah, any Sunday, any given Sunday or Monday, you're going into a game with Ben Johnson with a headset on, you know as a team, as a fan base, you got a good chance.

20:19Pat McAfee:Hey, congrats, Ben, dude. Extremely disciplined, too. Like, they are very disciplined. They don't commit stupid penalties and stuff like that. Like, he is a psychopath in the best possible way. Yeah, and I also like that he's got a little heat with people. Me, too. Yeah, I like that he's got a little heat with people. Yeah, me too. He'll do a quick handshake, won't he? He'll do a quick handshake drive-by. I'm out of here. And he'll also talk shit at his introductory press conference and be like, I don't care about this guy. Bring him on. Let's go. Like that. Is that your coach? That is my coach, yeah.

20:52That is the Packers coach, yes. Whoa! I don't know. Whoa! That's the thing is when you see this guy in your own division and then, like you said, you're already thinking, Jesus Christ, I'm going to be 55 before I know it, And this guy's, you know, he's still there. Yes, he is. He's still there. Keep me up at night.

Read the full transcript

21:08Pat McAfee:Yes, he is. And it doesn't feel like he's losing any juice. He's only getting more comfortable. No, right. Hey, good, better, best. Never let it rest. You're good as better and you're better as best. And the whole place is screaming. And he's like, yeah, we're just good right now. We need to continue to go. The lads will go to war for him. Oh, yeah. Yeah, it really does feel like. He hears it, too, because he mentioned the quarterback. Yep. Because it wasn't not only just a backup. Like, he hadn't coached a former number one. Like all the guys, Caleb and Jared, were number one, got number one overall picks.

21:33So he mentioned it in his postgame, like, oh, yeah, I thought we were going to have issues calling plays. So I like that. You know, he was in a world where coaches and players and quarterbacks are always saying the right things or doing the right things, trying to at least. I like how Ben is a little different. And just what Ty was saying about his coach, like you look around the division, it's Kevin O 'Connell, MCDC, and Ben Johnson. Like Kevin O 'Connell was the other guy we were talking about being the QB guru. We know MCDC's MCDC. And then it's just Matt LaFleur in comparison to those guys sucks.

21:59No, what are you talking about? He's got one of the best records. What is this all about? Just giving me a nerd. I'm sorry. This is not hot. I'm sorry. I mean, there were some things you all said. What have you done for me lately? That's kind of what it comes down to because his record is great, but, you know, Rodgers ain't coming through that door anymore.

22:14Pat McAfee:Yeah, but remember that. We were just having this conversation last night. There were some things set in the microphones maybe a few years ago that was a little bit harsh, you know? Oh, yeah. Well, I stand by that, but, yeah. But, yeah, you're right. Maybe a bit too over the top. I agree. What about con men just right there? I mean, if we were to pull up LaFleur's record, I think LaFleur would go, God, what's your issue? Yeah, he's great. That's recency bias. But it is concerning when these guys – It is concerning when they can't – Over the last several years, like, they can't beat teams in the division.

22:42You know? It's like last year, not – And then the year before it was the Lions. Like, already this year with the Vikings. Like, I mean – He sucks.

22:52Pat McAfee:Oh, geez. They're incredibly undisciplined, too. Well – And that comes down to – Long season still. Let's see how the coaching comes. This is a good time to do the coaching. Let's not give up yet. Okay, let's not completely give up. Okay, LaFleur, we like LaFleur. He has a regular season coaching record of 76-40-1. Yeah, that's pretty good. Okay. What is it without Rodgers? It's a playoff record. Without an MVP on his team, what is it? Well, and that's a whole fascinating thing, too, because we kind of hold that against Stefanski with what happened with Baker. Sure. Right, they had success finally in Cleveland with a quarterback, and then seemingly that all blows up.

23:25Pat McAfee:You get him out of town somehow. And then with Aaron Rodgers' situation in Green Bay, it's like they kind of, right? Yeah. I mean, they were kind of, the floor was pretty much done with the whole, him and Gutekunst were like, all right, let's kind of, we're done with this thing. He's going into a dark hole. Is now the time? Yep. He's going to get 1 ,000 text messages. This guy's going into a hole for a week. He's never going to be able to know when or how we did this. He gets out of the hole, scans through, sees the, hey, we're moving on. I was 60%, 70 % retired coming out of that hole, and then I was re - right?

23:57Pat McAfee:Isn't that what Aaron Rodgers says? Yeah. So they choose to move on from him. They are crowned as geniuses. Okay? Crowned as geniuses. This is the right move. Packers always get it right. They draft before they're supposed to at the most important position. They develop. They do everything the right way. This is what you're supposed to do. Now, it does feel like there comes a time where they're going to have to pay that off. You know? Like the Packers are going to have to pay that off that they are the super geniuses that they were all crowned for whenever they kicked Aaron Rodgers out of town.

24:24Pat McAfee:And maybe it was the right move at the time in theory. but you're only going to be judged if you have success. And right now it appears in the NFC North there's a lot of teams that are primed for success. Yeah, for sure. And, again, they're one of those franchises where, like, the last couple years, like, it's not good enough to get the last playoff seed and then go get beat in the first round of the playoffs every year. Like, that just doesn't work. Some places that just doesn't work. Some fan bases would love to have that. Like, are Packers fans spoiled because of that maybe? But, like, that's just the reality of the situation.

24:49Like, you can't sneak into the playoffs and then get your ass beat in the first round when you have all this talent and the expectation is this team is going to make a deep playoff run. especially when you have other teams in your division who are the teams that are beating you in the playoffs sometimes.

25:00Pat McAfee:All right. Well, we move away from that skipper to our skipper. Oh, yes. Hell, yes. Skipper? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The skip. And remember, I think there were some things said about this man that should have potentially been directed at the entire classic. Yes. Okay. Oh, okay. My skip. It was my skip. Yeah, your skip. Our skip. We traveled to go watch this skip skip. multiple times. And tonight, MLB wildcard kicks off 162 games led to this to see who could potentially hoist the commissioner's trophy. Bingo. Ladies and gentlemen, joining us now, our skipper. Yeah. Host on MLB Network's The Hot Stove every single morning.

25:51Pat McAfee:Ladies and gentlemen, Mark DeRosa.

25:57Darius Butler:You're the best, man. You are the best. Thank you. No 162? You didn't know 162?

26:03Pat McAfee:I forgot if it was 182 or 162 or 82 was the number. There was a ping pong happening. NBA kind of makes it. Yeah. Media day yesterday.

26:15Darius Butler:By the way, by the way, real quick, I had some cheese on Philly last night. I am cold as ice in the early going of the NFL season. I thought that was a no-brainer.

26:25Pat McAfee:It's been tough. Yeah, you've got to Brett responsibly. Make sure it's a responsible amount of cheese. Don't be an asshole and ruin it for all of us. We need that to remain a thing. But you aren't the only one. And the NFL right now has been impossible to predict. You have no idea who's going to show up when. What's the record of teams that have gotten blown out by at least 20 points and then how they performed the following week? So there's a stat right now early in this season. Teams lose by 20, and then the next week they are –

26:51Darius Butler:So they're 6-2 straight up, 7-1 against the spread after losing by 20.

26:56Pat McAfee:So how the hell are we supposed to know? How the hell are we supposed to know, D-Ro? Let's talk baseball. After 162 games, we know exactly who's who. MLB wild card starts at 5 p.m. I do believe. 2 p.m. is the first game. Never mind. 2 p.m. Eastern, Phillies versus the Braves. 5 p.m. hockey, I believe, is starting tonight. NHL is happening. I apologize. A lot of sports, big sports Tuesday. So 2 p.m., we got the Phillies and the Braves. then White Sox Astros, Red Sox Yankees, Cubs, Padres do all these teams have a chance to win the World Series? Some of these teams sneak in here and going to get exposed?

27:30Pat McAfee:How should we view wild card baseball and playoff baseball as a whole, D-Row?

27:34Darius Butler:No, everybody's got a puncher's chance but I think the teams that are built with depth I mean, obviously the Dodgers come to life. I love the way the Brewers have played the entire season. I need them to take a big step forward this last year they went into Dodger Stadium and kind of got smacked around a little bit. I think they want to right the ship there. The Rays have been the best team in the American League all year, Pat. We'll see if it holds chalk. Whoever wins that Red Sox-Yankees series will have to go down to Tampa and take them on. That place is you walk into the Tropicana zone. That place is so hard.

28:08Darius Butler:Elite environment.

28:09Pat McAfee:Yes, it is.

28:10Darius Butler:No, they hit you with, they put you in a nice you know, you're on the marina, you get a breakfast burrito, a nice base tan, maybe take a dip in a pool, and then you go into this dungeon and you get wiped out by like five different pitchers throwing 98 miles an hour. So that's not an easy place to play. But we're going to get it going with Philly, Atlanta, right out of the chute with Chris Sale on the bump. And I saw your interview with him and he was fantastic. You guys were riding me.

28:37Pat McAfee:I was riding? What do you mean we're riding you? That's not true.

28:41Darius Butler:He said take it easy on D-Row. I heard him.

28:43Pat McAfee:Well, you heard him stick up for you, which I respect. I'm looking for people sticking up for me as well across the board. I understand where you are coming from there. But, yeah, he wasn't a part of Team USA, you know. He wasn't a part of Team USA, and he's having a great season this year, you know. And it's not on you, D-Row. We've all learned.

29:02Darius Butler:I asked Chris Sale. I walked right up to him in Northport in spring training. I said, you in? He goes, ah, man, I don't think I should do that.

29:11Pat McAfee:But also, that World Baseball Classic, I think they're going to have to move that thing. I think there's going to be some conversations about that. I think you took some unwarranted shots, which we all understand now, but let's talk about wild card baseball, and let's talk about playoff baseball. You talk about the Rays. It's the Rays, Brewers, Dodgers, and – Guardians. Guardians. That's three smaller market, not massive payroll teams, right? And Dodgers are – Yeah, we're together. Right? Is that good for baseball? This is good for baseball going forward? Who's the lowest?

29:42Darius Butler:I think the Guardians are the lowest payroll in the league, if I'm not mistaken, D-Roy. You can correct me on that if I'm wrong, but I saw a graphic this morning. I'm pretty sure. I think it speaks to doing more with less. You know, I really do. I look at the Tampa Bay Rays and I look at the Milwaukee Brewers. They use their entire 26-man roster to get it done. There's no egos. There's the occasional superstar spattered in there. They both have true number ones. They both have weaponry in the bullpen. They can beat you with defense, base running, a little bit of small ball. So they have a variety of ways to beat you as opposed to when you turn on the Yankees Red Sox series tonight.

30:24Darius Butler:It's going to be 80%, 6 '5 on the mound, fastballs down your throat, and who's going to run into one is what's going to be the deciding factor in that series. where when you take on the Milwaukee Brewers or a Tampa Bay Rays, somebody like that, they come in with a game plan to attack you a little bit differently and expose your flaws.

30:44Pat McAfee:So the big salary caps are the big bullpens, big hitters. So we got gas across the board. Whenever we talked to Skip Murphy from the Brewers, and we brought up like old school baseball. Is that how you feel you play? And he goes, I don't think that's how we play. I think we just play baseball how we have to play. We understand who we are and how we're built. but that means we're trying to get a couple hits. We're trying to get on base. We're trying to work counts, right? We're trying to throw ball. Not that Miz is doing that, but pitching mostly coming in, we're working baseball. Like as opposed to we got ace, ace, ace coming in just to absolutely kill and we got home run hitters across the board.

31:21Pat McAfee:That's the difference between big salary and small salary teams. Is that basically what you would say?

31:29Darius Butler:I think that's a fair statement. I think the great teams try and turn themselves into the Brewers or Rays with superstar-type players, with more talented players, so to speak. But it doesn't mean that's necessarily going to win the day. I just look at the Milwaukee Brewers, and you look at the postseason as a whole, usually it comes down to someone blasting one because the pitching's so intense, right? You're going to have matchups. You're seeing with the Yankees roster. Giancarlo hasn't taken a live A-B since August 24th. What gives anybody the reason to believe that he could potentially step in a box five, six months later and run into one?

32:11Darius Butler:But he's on the Yankees roster for one reason. He will come up with a big spot against an Eraldis Chapman with one shot to either punch out or go deep. That's why he's on the roster. So we'll see if that takes place where the Milwaukee Brewers are going to attack you a little bit differently. They're going to try and work counts. Now, don't get me wrong. They still have stars. Jackson Churio is one of the best players in the National League. William Contreras, these guys can shoot you. But they're going to attack it a little differently supporting cast-wise.

32:43Pat McAfee:I like that. We got baseball on display, it feels like, throughout the entire playoffs. Now, you mentioned John Carla. There's another name noticeably absent there from the Yankees. Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, D. Rowe, how big of a deal do you think it is that Judge isn't on the roster for the wild card series? I mean, I think personally, I mean, this is a little biased, but I think the Yankees have the best pitching rotation in the majors, which is why they are definitely a team who could win the World Series. But we know they struggle against lefties. The Red Sox are going to throw two lefties if we get to a game three.

33:15Like, how big of a deal is it that Judge isn't going to be in the lineup for any of these games?

33:20Darius Butler:It certainly, Ty, I think it's a huge deal just because, you know, you can make the argument he's the best hitter in the sport, but he didn't look good when he first came back. It's his right calf. If he could have gone, I think he would have forced the issue to be put on this roster. I actually think it makes Boone's job a little bit easier knowing that. Because if Judge was going to be on the roster, you were going to want him in right field. Because you want Goldschmidt in there against the lefty. You're not taking Ben Rice out. There's just not enough positions for these guys to kind of handle.

33:55Darius Butler:So I think it makes Boone's job a little bit easier. I would say if I'm Booney right now, he's trying to steal this series and get Judge off his feet for four days. and then bring him back hopefully against the Rays and he's healthy and can play a little bit of right field for him.

34:09Pat McAfee:Let's talk about stealing the series. Go ahead, Boston Connor. Yeah, D-Ro, we saw you this morning talking about basically everyone's favorite pitcher, you know, paying totally for the Boston Red Sox, him on the bump today. What do you think the Red Sox have to do? Ty mentioned the lefties kind of going for Boston, take advantage of that thing for the Yankees that they can't do, which is hit against them. What do you see from this series? And you think Boston has a real shot to win the whole damn thing?

34:35Darius Butler:I need to see Wilson Contreras and feel good about him. I'd like to see him roast something in a gap or go deep and make me feel good about his hand and how he's going to be a force in the lineup. Listen, Boston, Matt, I think the last team the Yankees really wanted to see in the wildcard round of the Boston Red Sox. I really do. I mean, with Tully and you got Crochet going to the bullpen and Ranger Suarez has been an absolute monster. Look at his postseason numbers. So if it goes to game three, he certainly won't be intimidated taking a rock in Yankee Stadium. Tolley's had a ton of success. I know Schlittler has against the Red Sox as well.

35:14Darius Butler:What is it, 15-1, teams that win game one? I think that certainly holds true in this series. So I'd like to see Peyton Tolley give you some length tonight.

35:25Pat McAfee:Hold on. So whoever wins tonight, it's over? Yeah, that's what I just heard.

35:30Darius Butler:Listen, it's not over, but the analytics say you steal game one. It's looking right.

35:37Pat McAfee:I'm not a huge analytics guy. I kind of like the, you know, unless it's a hundred percenter, I would like to believe. This almost is, huh? This sounds like it is. Over the last five wildcard series, the game one winner has gone on to win the series 21 of 288%. It's a pretty high percent. Yeah. They're doing me travel, right? No, yeah. Yeah, all at New York. All at Yankee Stadium. Wow. Short series. Huge night tonight. Huge. Huge night tonight. Huge, my friend. Huge. It's wild card. It's what you play on them games.

36:12Darius Butler:My one-bedroom apartment tonight, hair on fire. We're going to be in a three-point stance watching all four games. Yes.

36:19Pat McAfee:I like that for you, D-Row. That's why you're our skip. That's why you're our skip. Okay, let's talk a little bit more about the entirety of the postseason. Go ahead, Darius. Yeah, I want to ask you about the deepest bullpen just overall. But actually, being as big as this game is tonight, I was surprised. I'm a Christopher Sanchez fan. Who is the ace? Who is the ace out there in Philly? Is it Wheeler? Is it Sanchez? Who is it?

36:41Darius Butler:All right, here we go. You ready? I broke this one down. This series will come down to how good Christopher Sanchez is in game two. Because the way I look at it right now, game one, you'd have to think Chris Sale's got the upper hand against a potential bullpen. We don't know what Lizardo is going to give us lengthwise, right? So Donnie baseball might be in a situation here where if he's down by four or five runs late in this game, he might have to use like kind of his B-list relievers and almost, I don't want to say punt it, but move on to game two and it'll all be on the back of Christopher Sanchez.

37:17Darius Butler:Because if and when it goes to game three, Zach Wheeler's never pitched on short rest before. And as good as he's been, you're going to want all your horses behind him to try and win game three. So the money and the pressure is on Sanchez game two in that series for me.

37:34Pat McAfee:The money and Donnie Baseball are kind of spinning it out there. We got short rest for a guy. Yeah, he did. Did you do this this morning on the hot stove?

37:45Darius Butler:On the MLB Central. Which also features the hot stove. You're at a train station. The show's not called Hot Stove. Hot Stove's coming up. It's coming up in December. We're going to have Hot Stove. That's like free agency. Detective D-Ro's still going.

37:59Pat McAfee:I see a flame around a stove, and I see you doing your thing, don't I? Isn't that what I see on the TV? Probably. At one point, yeah.

38:07Darius Butler:Occasionally, that's a Sean Casey bit.

38:10Pat McAfee:That's the mayor, baby. That's our hitting coach. Our hitting skip. That's our hitting skip. And also a guy needs to shut his trapper around 2, 3 a.m. after a big World Baseball Classic. Sean Casey's got too many stories. That's why they call him the mayor. The guy was friends with everybody. Well, maybe in a World Baseball Classic, Sean, let's keep some to ourselves. Let's create news stories out there.

38:32Darius Butler:Help them get us some hits, Case.

38:37Pat McAfee:Sean Casey doing incredible work back in Pittsburgh, by the way. Casey's clubhouse taking care of the community, which we appreciate so much. Him and David Allen, I think, raised over$100 ,000 last weekend at a fashion show. I mean, it was a – it goes up. We love Sean Casey. Then we hear the story. Oh, yeah, the boys rolling for seven hours. The boys didn't get out of the clubhouse until 6.30 a.m. after a massive win over Lithuania. Yeah, I heard. I heard it was fantastic. Okay, let's talk about another team, obviously, we're all excited about. Slom Diego time. Go ahead, Tone.

39:11Darius Butler:Yeah, D-Row. Actually, I think this is, as far as fireworks and runs are concerned, I think this is probably going to be the most exciting wildcard series. You correct me if you think I'm wrong on that one. That's Cubs and Padres. I looked over the last 30 days. The Padres have the best batting average in the MLB. They have guys that can hit home runs at every spot. And then you have PCA on the other side, the MVP, the 40-40 man himself. What's your thought on this series? It's going to be a tough series for the Cubbies to steal. If it was in Wrigley, I would lean their way. I think Petco minimizes a little bit of the Cubs slug.

39:45Darius Butler:Park plays a lot bigger than Wrigley Field. Michael King doesn't get enough love. He'll toe to slab for San Diego. They have arguably the deepest and best bullpen, so they can shorten games with Mason Miller on the back end. But I'm interested to see as this series goes two, three games. Nick Pavette is probably going to be your game two starter for San Diego. Their starting rotation outside of Michael King kind of limped to the finish. Nick Pavetta coming back from injury. So pitching-wise, can the Cubbies expose the depth of San Diego at some point in this series? But I agree with you. San Diego's a scary team because their stars have been starring down the stretch.

40:29Darius Butler:Tatis, Machado, Merrill been hot.

40:32Pat McAfee:Clear sky. I see every star out there, especially when the stars be starring. When the stars are starring in Chicago, it's a beautiful thing. Shout out to PCA. Obviously, big fan of that entire team. But also on the south side. Can you tell me a little bit about Moonshot of Takamurikami and the White Sox boys having a great time, a great celebration? Are they a team of – That's up it is!

40:53Darius Butler:You want to talk about a puncher's chance, Pat. Here it is with the White Sox. Right? I like that. Because the depth of the rotation and bullpen will get exposed in a long series. So how do you cover that up with Murakami hitting you a big three-run bomb somewhere along the lines? That ballpark, balls will fly out of Houston. So I do think this is one of the series that it will come down to one or two big swings. I think the White Sox steal this series on the back of a couple big, like I said, like a Murakami, a Colson Montgomery runs into one somewhere along that line. So, yeah, I like the White Sox puncher's chance to get out of the wild card, but I don't think whoever wins this series going up against the Guardians and their rotation and depth, I think they're going to have a tough time.

41:41Pat McAfee:The teams will separate themselves is what you're saying in this particular sport of baseball where rosters can be pieced together, but people can get hot. Cinderella stories can happen. And if it is the Japanese man, moonshot a talking Murakami in the Chicago White Sox, we will celebrate the hell out of that. They'd be stroking over there. They'd be stroking. They really be stroking. And West. And they might be stroked the best, to be honest with you. We shall see. D-Rowe, you're the man. We appreciate you, brother.

42:09Darius Butler:Oh, you're the best, man. I missed you guys. I'll see you later.

42:12Pat McAfee:You're the best. We would like it to be known that our skipper here got a text about 10 minutes before the show went live. Said, hey, can you join us in about 25 minutes to talk baseball? He goes, absolutely. You love the sport. Obviously, you love MLB as a whole. And we love the fact that you do that for us. We appreciate you, Skip. Love you, Skip. Skip. Enjoy today. Ladies and gentlemen, that's Mark DeRozan. Yeah, D-Row.

42:36Pat McAfee:Mark DeRow. Take me home. I just heard that when you guys said D-Row. You got a little country roads in there. I'll tell you, you're going to have to win a World Baseball Classic for us to do a full song and remix to that. Sure. But I think he's on his way. It might be the World Baseball Classic that you guys have been wanting to blame as opposed to just D-Row. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I've come around on that big time, but D-Ro is such a good sport about it, and he's hilarious of kind of defending himself that it was kind of like, well, let's just keep kind of peppering D-Ro and see what creative stuff he can come up with to defend himself.

43:08Pat McAfee:Well, it's on a baseball, and he did come up with creative stuff.

43:10Darius Butler:He emptied the clip on MLB baseball phrases. Yeah, he did. Toe in the slab, just everything, running into one, a piss missile to the gap, all of it.

43:19Pat McAfee:Yeah, so we were around a hockey guy on a regular basis now, and he unloads the hockey clip every time I'm around him. Waps him. I'll tell you, he can talk a dog off a meat truck, eh? I started dying laughing. I'm like, I've never heard that before. And then there's just another one right after. A little heavy-handed there, you know? Like, this guy is absolutely hysterical. Those cultures that are around each other a lot. Like, baseball is on the road. Those guys live on the road. Hockey lives on the road, and in the training room, they get like a week and a half off, then they're back in there again.

43:51Pat McAfee:I feel like that is a good place to just start a lot of the chirps that never end. That's why I'm excited that NHL hockey's back, and hockey players are a little bit more exposed to the public. I think the more we learn, the better the hockey culture is going to be viewed by people. And baseball, the same. After going out there and watching Team USA and meeting the guys, they got a lot of bros out there. They got a lot of good dudes in baseball. They have the same hockey mindset where it says about me, I'm going to get beat down, I'm going to fail a lot, I'm just trying to get by and all that.

44:18Pat McAfee:We got a lot of good dudes in these sports. Hopefully we continue to get to showcase them. And shout out to the playoffs starting for baseball. And shout out to NHL season dropping puck at 5 o 'clock today. Joining us now is a man who is one of the faces of the number two sport in the United States of America, college football. He's a host of College Game Day. And every week this season, he has joined us for Reese's Pieces from the Weekend with Reese Davis. Hey, Reese! How you doing, Reese? Thank you for joining us, brother. I'm pleased to be with you guys I enjoyed listening to Mark DeRosa man that guy's great I loved watching him as a player he's fun you got baseball in the family right the boy plays a lot of baseball yeah my son's still playing still banging around in the independent league so we're out there all off season all off season for football I should say I'll tell you what good idea complimenting D-Ro there because from the sounds of it I don't know if any major league guys are going to be playing in that world baseball classic going forward We might have a little Reese Davis out there.

45:20Pat McAfee:We need him, too. We need him in there. Okay, let's turn to college football. Massive weekend coming up here. We're heading to Iowa City for College Game Day's first visit in 20 years. We'll be there live on Friday. The slate, before we look back at what you've learned from before, can you tell me a little bit about Ohio State, Iowa, and then Alabama, Mississippi State becoming an absolute thriller at noon down there with two young quarterbacks. that could be the future of the entire league. Feels like we're in a really good spot, especially with this weekend, Reese. It is a great way to start the second month of the season.

45:56You sort of set the foundation in September in those two games that you mentioned. I mean, Ty's ball club has two walk-off wins already, including the one that, I mean, I can't wait to ask Kirk Behrens, what was the play call if you hadn't had the injury? Because they didn't have time to spike it. You have to have three seconds to spike it and run another play. Want to know if it was the same play call that ended up being the touchdown pass to Vanderzee. Iowa, the two walk-off wins. If they win this game, Pat, look at that schedule the rest of the way. Not that there aren't good teams on it, but I didn't see Oregon in there.

46:34I didn't see UCLA, who's playing great. This is a real opportunity for the Hawkeyes, man. Huge opportunity. You heard Ty just sneak in there, Reese.

46:44Pat McAfee:He goes, no Indiana either? Yeah, you're saying no Oregon. No Indiana? That's right, Ty. No Indiana. Yeah, he's pretty pumped up. At least until maybe in Indianapolis. Oh! That's what I'm talking about. That's what I'm talking about. We just had to secure our tickets last week for that. Certainly the Big Ten Championship is a great time. And I think a nice showcase of certainly the last three national champions have come through there. The SEC, though, seemingly a bit deeper. Those young lads that I talked about there, the Alabama-Mississippi State. I mean, you're talking real ballplayers. And, you know, Nick Saban made a joke, okay, a couple of them, about Kamario Taylor.

47:22Pat McAfee:If I was coaching now, I'd be trying to figure out how to get him in the transfer portal. He made a joke is what he made. He can't joke like that. I know. He's Nick Saban. I know he's not allowed to do that. He has a TV personality, though, so he is trying to make things entertaining, and he's talking about what I think probably a lot of college football coaches are thinking as they watch there. and then I said, I'd give this guy$10 million to come to West Virginia, I believe. I immediately followed up. That's reality, but Mississippi State's not thinking like that, and I don't think Camario's thinking like that at all.

47:49Pat McAfee:What I'm thinking is they're all the way back for at least the next three years with this guy, and then Keelan Russell, same exact thing. Two young, special talents. Game day certainly could have gone down there. I think if it wasn't for us being at the SEC the first three, four weeks, however many it was, it all kind of blends together, and then us having to show love here to Iowa hosting a massive one in the Big Ten, And I think that definitely would have been on the docket to head down to Mississippi State for that Alabama-Mississippi State game. But how do you describe the future of those two programs?

48:17Pat McAfee:They're staying there, obviously. But that is a huge thing to have if you're one of their fan bases this early in the season to know, like, hey, next couple years feels like we're in a great spot, Reese Davis. I think it's really easy to look at those two guys. And it's really early. And we've seen quarterbacks fall off this year. So now that I've offered that disclaimer, would you really think I was crazy if we looked ahead to the 2028 draft and said those were the first two guys take? I mean, both of them have every trait you would want. If there's only one program in the country that wouldn't be glad to muster together 10 million to try to lure Camario into the portal, it'd be Alabama.

48:57They've got their guy. And, you know, I would say I would say this because I can't joke either sometimes about stuff like that. The great thing about Kamario, he's a local guy, grew up loving Mississippi State. Parents are fans. Uncle played there. I don't think he's going to be lured away. And plus, State's got access to cash. He's going to be around the next couple of years. And when you can build around a quarterback like that, I agree with you 100%. I don't know if they're good enough and deep enough to win the SEC, but they're going to have a problem or be a problem and they're going to have a say in who does over the next couple of years for sure maybe they can build around him by next year and do

49:38Pat McAfee:something special great environment i think they just broke a record for the amount of cowbells and the sound of it or whatever and you have an electrifying player like that i think that helps get people to come join you it's just like the nfl if you have a great quarterback or something special that's easier to recruit i assume that's going to continue to happen in hardy you know Mississippi State guy. He needs to open up platinum record after platinum record. After platinum record, go ahead and help that roster. I think he already has. I think plenty of others have as well because, obviously, they've seen the success of Ole Miss.

50:07Pat McAfee:Let's go ahead and start dancing. They might have their guy. Congrats to them. Okay, let's talk about this past weekend. Let's dive into some Reese's pieces. What's your big takeaway from this past weekend of college football, Reese? Biggest takeaway was from the game where we were, Pat, the Texas-Tennessee game. You have no choice but to rank Texas number one. They have the best win in the sport beating Ohio State, and they won in that environment. But I'm not convinced that they're necessarily the best team. Now, maybe they will be by the end. What they've done defensively has been really impressive.

50:39The 10 sacks against Tennessee, they held Jeremiah Smith, might be the best player in the sport without a catch in the fourth quarter, against Ohio State in that comeback win. So they've got room to grow. But I need to see before I decide that they are the best team. They are the favorite to win the championship. They are truly elite. I need to see a little more consistency and explosiveness out of their offense. It would help if they could run the ball a little bit better. So I'm not sure that there's a great team yet. We've got two more months for teams to grow. I'm just not sure. Texas on defense looks like it's headed that way.

51:15I need to see more out of Texas offense. That was a big takeaway from that one. the other big takeaway I have was another SEC game and I know what people are going to think Florida and Ole Miss I still think because of Trinidad Chambliss that Ole Miss might win the whole thing they have Trinidad and you don't but Florida's real I mean they're real real because when Trinidad started doing Trinidad things and getting them on the cusp of a comeback and you thought oh here he comes Florida answered the way it's answered all year they run the football right through your face. They don't care if you know.

51:48They come and they punch you right in the mouth with that running game. They did it to Auburn and they did it to Ole Miss. And, you know, I think they're going to be, they've got Texas and Georgia coming up. You better, you better strap them up tight when you play Summerall's team because they are going to hit you and they're going to run the football. They might have some deficiencies on defense. So I'm really, I think Florida's around for the long haul. And probably the other thing, this sort of falls into what we were talking about with Ty and Iowa. There are some teams lurking around in college football, a little bit quiet so far, and you're going to find out just how good they are coming up in the next few weeks.

52:27Iowa is one you're going to find out Saturday. I've been really impressed with what Bob Chesney's doing at UCLA. You take Iowa, you take UCLA, you even take Nebraska, who's going to get Indiana in a couple of weeks. and we may have some sneaky teams that give the Big Ten the type of depth that everybody has been saying, well, the Big Ten's good at the top, but what about the middle? What about the upper middle class? UCLA's got Oregon coming up over the next couple of weeks. Maybe those teams are pretty good and give it some depth in the Big Ten too.

53:02Pat McAfee:Yeah, Chesney comes from JMU, does have a signet-y style to him, has 11 JMU players, I believe, currently on UCLA who can run the ball, can win games all of a sudden out nowhere. And I think UCLA, if they were able to show some success, they have alum that would potentially get involved. I think they're just a group of people that need to be shown. Hey, we need to be shown that you can at least be a competent bunch here and maybe win some games. And with what's happening with USC, you know, with football, a lot of big hype, a lot of big conversation. Nobody at the opening game, okay, because it was hot at that thing.

53:38Pat McAfee:It was very hot. It's like UCLA, with their alum in Los Angeles with a coach that's seemingly very competent and has a style that can travel in Big Ten football as well because they can run. It's like maybe UCLA becomes and spawns into a team that is for real in the Big Ten even though nobody could have predicted it. Now there is an SEC team that people are kind of judging pretty harshly all of a sudden. Go ahead, Tom.

54:00Darius Butler:People are pissed that Mizzou is still a top 25 team. I'm not sure if you've seen that on the internet. They've been a top 25 team I think 32 out of 39 weeks, but they're only one in 10 against ranked teams. And then you have teams like, you know, Virginia Tech and Pitt who play this week, who aren't in Nebraska, who you just mentioned. Now they haven't played. A lot of those teams haven't played anyone yet still. But what are your thoughts on the SEC and people being mad about the bottom of the SEC teams like Mizzou and them being ranked still? I think Missouri is a pretty good team. I think they really let one get away or maybe they had it taken away from them by Camario the other night.

54:40I considered putting them late in my ballot still, but they haven't beaten anybody of note. I think it's probably more appropriate to like Duke. It's another team that I think should be in there. So maybe you look at a team like Missouri, and I'm not sure they're a top 25 club. They're fringe. I don't think it's egregious if people rank them, but I don't think it's beyond the realm to leave them out either. They're an average team. They're pretty good. Chance to get better. Got a shot at Florida this week. But, you know, I think any team like that in that middle class group from the SEC that gets the benefit of the doubt from the pollsters is going to going to get some reaction.

55:21Pat, I looked up something you asked in the meeting on Friday, and it's a rough number, but the number of voters in the AP poll that are outside the SEC footprint, at least in terms of where they work right now, is right around 60, I think 68 % or so. Kind of a rough number.

55:40Pat McAfee:Okay, that's good. First of all, thank you for getting that answer, because I did wonder. I'm like, because the defense is always, look how many ranked teams are in the SEC. It's like, well, who's doing the ranking? I would like to know who's doing the ranking, to know who thinks that these are the best teams. 68 % outside of the SEC. Okay. Yeah, it doesn't mean some of those might not have some SEC ties in some way. Like, you know, I do. You know, I work for ESPN. I went to school in Alabama. But generally speaking, where they work, you know, is like about 68 % right now outside of that footprint.

56:12Pat McAfee:Okay. Good question. Speaking of voting, yeah, D-Bott has a question for you. Journalism right there. You talked about Texas. Obviously, you said they have to be number one right now, but I've been asking you every week, and I'll ask you again. You've had Notre Dame up there as your number one team. Who is your number one team now as we head into week five? Well, I had Ole Miss last week ranked there, and I ranked Texas number one because I felt like I had no choice. I wanted to honor the accomplishment, and no one has accomplished what they have up to this point. I still think the best team is probably from among the group, as we sit here right now, that are completely unproven.

56:48in terms of who they played this year. Miami, Georgia, Notre Dame, Indiana, are among the teams that maybe we're going to look at that win over Northwestern from the other night. Maybe Northwestern has a really good year. Wisconsin, after its great win against Penn State, we might decide that was a pretty good win for Notre Dame. But at the moment, they really haven't accomplished anything. So I feel like you have to rank Texas number one, that we're at least a month into the season And if a team has accomplished something, you need to honor that. And Texas is talented. Texas may prove to be the best team at the end.

57:24I just don't look at them right now and say, man, that's a juggernaut, you know, that's going to just run through everybody. But they have the potential to improve. And everybody has that opportunity.

57:36Pat McAfee:I think they have a lot of dogs on that team. Yeah. Yeah. From my understanding, there are dogs across the board on that team. Just everywhere on that team, dogs, which leads to the number two team in the AP, Georgia, which we obviously all think have dogs across the board. And also Gunnar is playing better football quarterback than he's played since we met him the first time in a big – I'm sorry, in the SEC championship game, I think, whenever he got completely airborne, knocked out on like one of the first runs.

58:04Darius Butler:By McCuba, who we saw last night.

58:06Pat McAfee:Yeah, who we saw last night. Okay, yes, that's the first time we saw Gunnar. We heard his name was Gunnar, and he's George Bulldog, and he's a damn good dog. and we're like, wow, this guy might be the perfect bulldog. And then it hadn't really, right? Back-to-back SEC champs. Is that good? I don't know. You tell me. Haven't won a national championship, though, so failure for Kirby and for Georgia. And then now he's allegedly playing quarterback better than ever, completing every single pass. He still has this. And Kirby has a bunch of guys from within his program who have kind of developed into this team that they are now as opposed to just, like, buying a team that a lot of people are doing.

58:41Pat McAfee:Not that he didn't buy the recruits. Correct. Let's not get it crazy. But he did build them up through the system. So, I mean, it's hard not to just get excited about the potential of Kirby having a team that is not really being respected and having a quarterback that's playing the best he's played.

58:54Darius Butler:I mean. I think we'll find out.

58:56Pat McAfee:He's number two in the AP Bowl. Is this what you're saying? No, no, no. I'm saying two for sure. But I think they're getting their respect. But you're talking about respect. I mean, Reese had Ole Miss, number one. Everybody has one of that as the best quarterback. What Florida did, Tobe, I know you've got to re-rank these things.

59:11Darius Butler:You say people aren't respecting Florida? I think eight is a good spot, but if they go and beat the shit out of Missouri again this weekend, I mean.

59:19Pat McAfee:And there's a chance that's going to happen. Missouri against ranked teams, not that great over the last 10. I think it's like one and nine or something is the stat that's coming out. Now, I will say, Reese, we do not have an AP vote in the Thunderdome. We do not have one of those. But we do have an above-average poll every single week. Oh, really? I'm right. And Tone put his above-average poll together today. Guess who he has on top of his poll, Rhys? I'm going to guess he's got Florida. Rhys Davis knows his poll, doesn't he? Tony, you got Florida, Iowa, Georgia. How did you piece your poll together this morning?

1:00:02Darius Butler:Yeah, Rhys, if you don't know, I kind of do like a who won the weekend with also a cumulative from the entire year so far. Florida was by far the winner of the weekend for me, beating your number one team in Ole Miss in the swamp. Just absolute, like you talked about, just bruising, running the football. Buster Faulkner, just so much eye candy, so many things. It's awesome to see what him and Aaron Filo are doing after coming from Georgia Tech. And then I put Iowa in there as my second winner from the weekend, and it's also undefeated on the season. Just an absolute huge win. Now they host Ohio State coming to Iowa City.

1:00:36Darius Butler:And then, yes, Georgia hasn't played anyone yet, but they have looked damn good not playing anyone. So, you know, I have them lurking down there at the bottom, I can't wait to see it. I believe they go to Tuscaloosa next weekend, so that'll be an interesting one as well.

1:00:48Pat McAfee:A little swampy poll here, first time we've seen that. Remember, this is an above-average poll because it's not too far removed, but we're not all the way in every locker room either. Not an actual AP vote. Just Tone's above-average poll. Congrats, Tone. Thank you. And Reese, knowing who's – Reese knows. Yeah, Reese pre-dialed in. Let me guess, the dipshit went with Florida? Yes, actually, Reese, that is 100 % true. Now, the team's second there on the above average poll, the Iowa Hawkeyes last played Magic to get a huge dub, and Iowa boy catches that. And now College Game Day returns. Ty has a question for you.

1:01:28Yeah, Reese, you mentioned on the College Game Day podcast that you weren't necessarily rooting against Michigan, but that you wanted Iowa to win because you want whatever's best for game day. And I think you probably knew that if Iowa were to win, that game day would be going back to Iowa City. What are your expectations for the show on Saturday? It hasn't been there in 20 years. And obviously, last time they did go, you weren't the host of the show. Fowler was. So what are your expectations for Saturday and Iowa City? Well, I think it's going to be awesome. I've seen some shots of where we're going to be set up.

1:02:00And one of the things that I mentioned to our director, Joe, is that I might want to do the scene set and sort of try to recreate the swarm. You know, the way that your ball club comes out, you know, arms locked together right there and sort of walk out with a rhythmic intensity instead of just storming out. And Joe told me, he said, there are going to be way too many people there for you to move. He said, you might be able to recreate it, but you guys aren't going to be able to move forward. It's going to be too crowded. So I can't wait to get there. I've been there and called basketball games there, but I've never been there for a football game.

1:02:40So I'm going to stick around for the game. Can't wait to experience Kenick Stadium, and it's going to be a lot of fun on Saturday. I can't wait.

1:02:49Pat McAfee:Yeah, we are pumped to get over there. I had a chance to experience a game day whenever we were doing the Barstool tailgate show. Took the train in, did the show live from a house. No service is the amount of humans ever in. No sound either. Well, there's no sound on that particular show, But I think that is, and we did a pretty good, I think, optically show, but we didn't know that there was no sound. But it was the amount of humans that were just kind of dispersed everywhere. Do we know where the game day set's going to be yet? Do we know that? Yes, he showed me, I can't remember the name of it.

1:03:21Ty, you might be able to help me. It starts with a P. Pentecrest. It's not the Presidio. That's what I want to say. What is it? The Pentecrest. The Pentecrest. That's exactly right. Yeah, right in front of the old Capitol. That's the shot he sent me. I assume that's where we're putting it. Okay, so that's in front of the old Capitol. Where is that? Is that on campus? That's on campus. The Pentecrest is like the middle of campus. We're all like the four major buildings where most of the undergrads have lectures and stuff like that. So if they're doing it on the Pentecrest and not on the other side of the river near the stadium, there are going to be so many people there.

1:03:49Eric, race got a photo. Can you see that? Yeah, that's the old Capitol in the background right there. I used to walk up and down that every single day going to class. So there will be – that's going to be rocking. That's awesome that it's there. All right.

1:04:02Pat McAfee:We're going to be out there on Friday. Can't wait to see you back on campus, Ty. I'm excited. Yeah, I know you are, certainly. And then, obviously, college game day, 9 a.m. from Iowa City as another Saturday slate of magic kicks off for college football. We appreciate the hell out of you, Reese. Likewise, fellas. Always good to be with you. Have a great day. Ladies and gentlemen, Reese David. Ray Reese! So you're telling me D-Row's show isn't the hot stove? He gets into the hot stove a decent amount. He does. Man. There's definitely a portion of the year where it is the hot stove. And he'll be cooking on the hot stove nonstop.

1:04:42Pat McAfee:Yeah, it feels like he's always cooking on the hot plate. Donnie, baseball comes over. I do a little lasagna. So Italian. Right out of the gate. I lost a good bit of cheese on the TV. We're back on the other side. Be a good friend. See you then.

1:05:35Pat McAfee:Football! He's the greatest, and last night, Case Keenum sliced and diced the Philadelphia Eagles defense to a slaughtering 27-7 dub for Ben Johnson in the Bears at home in front of an electrifying soldier field. Obviously, you know you're in history when you're in there, and what the Chicago Bears were able to do last night was pretty historic. QB three for the Chicago Bears just a couple weeks ago comes in a Ben Johnson offense against a Philadelphia Eagles defense led by Vic Fangio, a team that has won a Super Bowl in the past and is loaded across the board and picks them apart. They were innovative.

1:06:16Pat McAfee:They were fast. They were strong. They were cerebral. They were quick. They were calculated. They were beating the hell out of the Eagles from the opening kick. Now, obviously there was a goal line stand whenever they made a bad decision on what particular play. And if, you know, buddy Rome catches that ball, it's a whole different conversation. Maybe four touchdowns for Case Keenum on Monday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles. But instead, it stays close. And then in the second half, the Bears put them away, basically. Ben Johnson, I don't know what he said at halftime. I don't know what the messaging was.

1:06:55Pat McAfee:I don't know what the boys started to buy in and believe to, but in the second half, this Bears team just said, you know what? Yeah, we are a much better team than this team, and our quarterback is playing better quarterback than anybody on their team, including Andy Dalton, who threw a pick on the two-yard line after they drove 95 yards from their own three. What a win, what a night for the Bears. What a time for the NFL as the Chicago Bears seemingly all the way back for the foreseeable future, maybe the next 30 years with Ben Johnson looking like he might live forever. The Talks and Ted was here at Boston Corner and at Ty Schmidt.

1:07:27Pat McAfee:One half of the hammer, done. Cowboys AP Tony's here. Under and Bears right plays last night.

1:07:32Darius Butler:Yes, it was. Always.

1:07:35Pat McAfee:Home, Dogs, plays through the weekend.

1:07:37Darius Butler:Yes. 6-2 straight up. 7-1 against the spread.

1:07:39Pat McAfee:How about overs and unders throughout two weeks?

1:07:42Darius Butler:So, throughout the season right now, unders are 25-23. Home teams are 25-21-2. These are all against the spread. and that's it. That's really all I got there. Oh, and you'll like this one. Teams that are receiving 50 % or more of the bets are 17, 29, and 1.

1:08:03Pat McAfee:Fade public to them. The issue with that is my brain, pretty public. You know? A lot of my thoughts are heard.

1:08:13Darius Butler:Well, you had a great week, though.

1:08:15Pat McAfee:I did. I did do well. I started seeing the board a little bit, which is good. Hopefully that'll continue for all parties. Nine-year NFL vet, Darius J. Butler is here. Yes, D. Butts, what you learned last night from Monday Night Football in Chicago about the Chicago Bears or maybe the Philadelphia Eagles? Oh, I learned the Philadelphia Eagles are in trouble. Once again, you talk about another play caller. Jalen Hurts found a way to win a late game against the Titans. It was a big game, a big moment. Monday Night Football, you're going up against a third-string quarterback. Obviously, you've got good players and good coaches over there, but as an Eagles fan, as an Eagles player, Eagles coach, that's a game you expect to go in there and win, and they did not.

1:08:48It's a lot of questions with the offense like there always is. I thought Saquon would get going a little more. Some questionable decisions by Sean Mannion, throwing the ball down there with Andy Dalton. And then even that play right before the half with Jalen Hurts barely got the snap off and got the sneak. That was a wild play to call a screen pass with 19 seconds and no timeouts left. But you barely got the touchdown in there. So, yeah, Philly's probably in trouble. And, I mean, the Bears, you learn a lot about Case Keenum, I'll tell you that much.

1:09:15Pat McAfee:Yeah, Case Keenum might be the guy. Has Case Keenum got another five years being a starting quarterback in the NFL? He could. How many different offenses could Case Keenum operate right now, especially with how dynamic the Ben Johnson offense is? We got motions. We got shifts. He hit like 10 different targets. I mean, everybody you've heard of that are on the Bears. Komet, Loveland, Roush, Monongai, Swift, Adunze, Luther Burden's a running back now. And also – Yeah, on purpose. Yeah, it was just like – Kalief Raymond. Khalif Raymond was nuts. Crazy. I had no idea he was that fast. I guess we should.

1:09:50Pat McAfee:He's a returner. He gets that ball. He has tape hanging off him. He is absolutely out of the gates, gone. It's like every player that was maybe uniformed last night that was a skill position got a stat. And it's like, is that Ben Johnson? Yes. Is that Case Keenum also operating an offense like perfectly? Yes. First time in a thousand days to be that smooth? It's unbelievable what Case Keenum accomplished.

1:10:12Darius Butler:To your point, eight guys had catches last night. Then he spread it around, obviously. And then three guys, or sorry, four, including Case Keenum, had rushes.

1:10:21Pat McAfee:Yeah, because he had a rushing touchdown as well. Yeah, sick play. They love the play. The guard bail. So the tacklers just go, oh, no, the ball's going this way. I got to move this way. And then you just kind of run it right up. That's smart. That's smart football. Not only do we have this, we also had tush push last night. So it was an appearance of the quarterback sneak in both parties. First touchdown was Luther Burden on a run. Yeah. Well, technically pass. Oh, yeah. Quick pass. Yeah.

1:10:48Darius Butler:Classic Mahomes. I mean, Luther Burton was all over that. He was unbelievable. Actually, pregame, there was a time where he caught a pass when they were just kind of warming up, and he took the football, he had his helmet on, and he started bashing the football off of his helmet. It was sweet.

1:11:01Pat McAfee:Ben Johnson's culture. Yes. Joining us now is another man who will certainly smash his head off of football. He's in an attic in Ohio. Ladies and gentlemen, he's a college football national champion, Super Bowl champion, Ryder Cup winner, A.J. Haas. Yeah. Paco, how you doing, pal? I'm good. Pretty much a storybook night for Case Keenum, huh? Yeah, with his family there. You know, my kids never really, they don't, you know, they might have been there. They've never really seen me play. So this is the first time they get to see daddy. Yeah, dad cooks, dude. Dad cooks. It was outrageous. 11 for 11 against the Blitz.

1:11:34Pat McAfee:So they bring pressure to kind of, hey, Case Keenum's going to have to win this game. Case Keenum's going to have to win this game. Pack the box. Bring people. You got it. No problem. Throwing around people. finding his hots immediately. I think he even got some deep shots on those somehow. It's like everything he needed to be, he was. And I didn't expect that. I don't know if anybody expected that other than Case Keenum in that locker room. But it was special to watch and special to be there. It was magical in that Soldier Field. It sure felt like that. I mean, it came through the TV copy. It looked like it was an awesome atmosphere, especially how well he played early, like from the jump.

1:12:06I think D-Bott even said in the first hour, it was like they were on their first 15 the whole game, like how they just kind of stayed in rhythm. He got rid of the ball, too. I'm pretty sure he was not sacked at all last night. I know the Bears got two sacks with their defense, but how about the Bears' defense as well? Dylan Thienemann, the young rookie safety, he gets a pick. He's playing well. He's all over the field. I know TJ Edwards got another pick. It's just I think this Bears team is legit, and I think Ben Johnson takes some pride too in being able to have a guy like Case Keenum up and ready.

1:12:36Pat McAfee:Yeah, and there's a turnover. Last year the Bears obviously led the NFL in turnovers from a defensive standpoint. Normally football gods kind of don't let you do that back-to-back years. Who's their DB coach over there? DB coach Al Harris. No, DC is Dennis Allen. Al Harris, though, big time. Everywhere he has turnovers, right? Absolutely. Everywhere Al Harris plays and everywhere Al Harris coaches, there is turnovers in abundance, right? Is that not accurate? Absolutely. I think he was coaching Deron Bland that year. He had a huge – Deron Diggs. Diggs, yep. Nashawn Wright, who kind of came out of nowhere last year for the Bears.

1:13:08So, yeah, he kind of leaves his imprint wherever he goes.

1:13:11Pat McAfee:Yeah, because normally that many turnovers, football luck you're getting. So the next year is a big downfall. It's like Bears, maybe this is just who they are. Maybe they are an electrifying offense that will be able to move the ball no matter what because Ben Johnson is seemingly a super genius in strategy. And then on the defensive side, they're going to have takeaways. That seems like a fun team to be a fan of, Ty Schmidt. Yeah, it does. And, you know, I was just saying there, it just adds insult to injury because he is a Packers legend. You know, for him to be over there, he was the, you know, we're going to take the ball and we're going to score pick six against Matt Hasselbeck.

1:13:41He is ingrained in my memory in so many great moments of Packers lore, and then to see him just at their most bitter rival and just continually doing the right thing. I would assume he should get a D.C. job here pretty soon. Yeah, I would have thought he would have had one at this point when he left Dallas. I would have thought he would have one, but we'll see. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but I know A.J.'s played with him before. You've obviously seen him. He's a South Florida legend. I would definitely love to see him calling the defense.

1:14:07Pat McAfee:Yesterday was the seventh time the Bears scored 10-plus points off of turnovers in a game under Ben Johnson. Obviously, that's the most in the NFL across the last two seasons. So not just getting turnovers. Let's go ahead and take advantage of them as well. And Case Keenum, obviously very sharp. And I don't like to say this because it might sound like it's not a super compliment to Case Keenum. I think Ben Johnson could win with A.J. Hawk at quarterback if he had to. Not that Case Keenum didn't play incredible. I think he did play incredible. but I think if you needed to draw up a plan with A.J.

1:14:38Pat McAfee:Hawk as your quarterback, this guy's got no cartilage in his knees, okay, but once he gets rolling, he can roll. He can throw the ball, loves throwing it deep, thinks he's so cool. Let's keep him happy. He's not scared to get in there and throw his face. I think Ben Johnson could draw up a design and a strategy to win a game with you at quarterback. I genuinely believe that. Now, Case Keenum had to execute perfectly, and he did. This is not a take, but I think all the hype about why Ben Johnson was going to be the coach everywhere is just so evident every single time we watch his teams celebrate, play, prepare, everything.

1:15:12Pat McAfee:It feels like he is the next one. It really does. And he was hyped as that. So it's crazy to think that he's been able to pull it off. Doesn't he feel like a guy like you seem to usually get one or the other? Either they're like the genius play caller, offensive guru guy, but they lock themselves in their office and they're like a football nerd and they don't know how to run a team. Ben Johnson seems like a perfect mix of that football crazy guru genius guy, but also like the ultimate leader that knows how to, you know, it seems pretty evident from the day he got there. We know who was in charge there at the Chicago Bears.

1:15:43And I think we continue to see that over and over again. So credit to him and this whole team. I'm sure the whole city of Chicago is very, very happy.

1:15:49Pat McAfee:And Ryan Poles, by the way, offensive lineman, you know, so I think he's very proud of the team that they've been able to piece together, the deals they've been able to get done, and the offensive line that they have. I mean, their offense aligns stout, and it's going to be expected to be because that's Ben Johnson's offense. Ben Johnson, 40 years old. Uh-oh. It goes to your 75, boys. At least. Yeah, especially with science now. Hey, thank you. Uh-oh. Maybe there'll be realignment of what the NFC North is, and maybe you guys won't be in there with them. Maybe they'll take the Packers and the Bears out of different divisions.

1:16:19No, I mean, if you want to be the king, you've got to kill the king. And right now they are the king. So I would like to be head Ben Johnson. I tell you what, I'm going to need to be on the whetstone for the next four or five years sharpening that blade in order to do so, I think.

1:16:32Pat McAfee:You're talking about in a royal setting. Yeah, correct. Yeah, we're talking medieval here. Yeah, medieval times. You're at that restaurant that I'm in. I'm at medieval times, yeah. The white knight is about to. Your yellow team or green team? I suppose green team. Are they still bringing it? Medieval times? Oh, yeah. Yeah, of course. Is there one in Iowa City? We've been looking for a place to eat on Thursday night. I've got to go. I've got to find one. No. There's a bunch in Florida. I've got to find one. There's a bunch in Florida. Can we look and see the closest medieval times to Iowa City?

1:17:02There definitely is not one close. I know that. I know that. Oh, my God.

1:17:05Pat McAfee:You guys are missing out. There might be one in town. There's one on campus. What?

1:17:12Pat McAfee:Let's pivot. Friday is going to be electrifying, AJ. I cannot wait. I saw the shot from Reese. That's a pretty sweet little setup. Yeah, I can't believe we get to be there. Should be fun to get back on campus Friday, noon, Eastern, 11 Central. will be live from Iowa City kicking off a massive Big Ten celebration for college game day. Joining us now, speaking of celebration, we're dropping puck in three hours and 39 minutes. Regular season puck? Regular season starts today. 5 p.m. We got the Panthers taking on the Hurricanes. A man who will be there representing, talking that good talk about that stick talk.

1:17:54Pat McAfee:Ladies and gentlemen, He's a horse owner. Yeah. He's a lad of the lads. He's a Stanley Cup champion. He goes by Big Hornel. Ladies and gentlemen, Eric Johnson. Yeah, Hornel! How you doing, Hornel? You know what? I feel used. You don't call. You don't ride all summer. And then hockey rolls around. And I just feel like a mule. What am I to you? A mule, Maggie. That is a mule. I know. A hockey mule. There's been a lot going on in our life. We hope the same for you. You look refreshed. You're glowing, Horno. You know that you're glowing. Is that because opening puck day? Opening stick night? Opening stick night.

1:18:33Pat McAfee:Hold on, before you get going,

1:18:35Darius Butler:God didn't answer our calls when he was in Vegas for two weeks because he was in a bundle of sticks on the floor every night.

1:18:40Pat McAfee:Oh, you're talking about when we were trying to cover the Stanley Cup finals and we couldn't get a hold of anybody for ten days? Absolute puddle. I'm the piss man. A little bit of a runaway out there in Las Vegas? Is that what we're talking about? Porno, or are you talking about other times? I've spent enough days in Vegas in the last year for the rest of my life. I'm done, but I've got to go back twice here in the next two months. But, no, I am happy to be in Raleigh, and I think what a great night to kick it off with. You know, the Panthers won the Cup in 24-25. The Canes win it in 26. These guys are bitter rivals.

1:19:16They hate each other. Brady Kachuk told me the other day he's going to set the hit record tonight that he owns at 16 in a single game. So, I mean, they have a guy named The Butcher on their team, for Christ's sake, and Radko Gudas. So this is going to be an absolute war.

1:19:29Pat McAfee:Okay, so The Butcher and Brady probably going to throw it down a little bit to set the tone. Do you think Brady is planning on breaking the hit record because it's his first game with the Panthers? Would like to set precedent on who he is, wants to set the tone? Or is this just the style the Panthers are going to be playing all season long with who they have now on their roster, Brady included? I mean, the Panthers are like the modern-day Broad Street bullies. like the Flyers used to be back in the day. They can beat you with skill. They can beat you with physicality. They can hit. They can fight.

1:19:58They can do it all. So really, whatever style another team wants to play, the Florida Panthers can do it. And I think with Brady, A, he wants to fire his team up. He just came over in a huge trade in the offseason from Ottawa, wanted to get out of Canada and play in the United States and with his brother. So he's going to be fired up to get this Florida Panther team back on track. Remember, they missed the playoffs last season. They dealt with a ton of injuries. so they're going to be fired up and ready to go and Carolina on the flip side is going to be ready to fend their title against their bitter rival the Panthers Florida Panthers super fan D but yeah I know we've moved on from Bobby and there what can we expect from our new goalies over for the Panthers a great question so it's well documented Bobrovsky went over to Toronto in the offseason the Panthers brought in Markstrom from Jersey he's a huge goalie takes up a ton in that he's sort of getting to that age where you wonder if there's going to be a decline in his play but I think the opposite I think he's going to be reinvigorated rejuvenated with the Florida Panthers and I think he's going to be a rock for them in net this season and that's really the only question is it net for me I think Florida is built to win it all the only question will be if if Markstrom can carry the mail for them all season long which I think he can love that the NHL is starting their

1:21:10Pat McAfee:82-game regular season here today on the MLB wildcard kickoff as well and also NFL in full throttle. It is a great time to be a sports fan. It's also a great time to be in Chicago. We got to see that last night. Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, Horno, you know, the Bears are back. They went to the playoffs last year, won a playoff game. Both the Cubs and the White Sox are in the playoffs starting today. And for a couple years now, we've been hearing, you know, Conor Bedard, he's the next great one. He's the next Wayno, and he's kind of been a bit of a squid up to this point. That's just what people are saying.

1:21:46That's not necessarily what I'm saying. But, you know, you talk about this guy being the next Wayne Gretzky, and his team's hammered dog piss, but they're on, you know, national TV all the time. It doesn't really make sense. But they do have the nightcap tonight in Vegas. Is this the year that, you know, the Blackhawks maybe kind of turn things around and they get back to those Blackhawks teams a couple, you know, almost a decade ago that were winning all those cups? Like, is Bedard finally going to take that next step and stop being such a squid? Yeah, first off, I do want to give a shout out to Case Keenum.

1:22:15Know him pretty well, Colorado guy, and I'm really happy for him. He finally got his first chance to start in over a thousand days. And with his kids, it was just awesome. The man can launch a golf ball, launch a football. So I'm super happy for him. But back to the Blackhawks. Yeah, I think it's a fair question. Like, Bedard has all the tools to be the next generational superstar face of the league. And I mean, it's not always linear, I think, in players' development. And let's be honest, when Chicago was winning all those Cups, they had a heck of a core and a nucleus before Kane and Taves got there.

1:22:46They had Seabrook. They had Keith. They had Sharp. They had Bufflin. They had Crawford. They had all of these pieces in place already. And for Bedard, they really didn't. It was Bedard and kind of the pieces have been filtering in over time. So I don't think it's fair to judge him on what's happened so far. And even maybe this season. I don't think Chicago is going to be a playoff team this year. Could they maybe sneak into a wildcard spot? Yeah, potentially, potentially. But Bedard, the weight's on his shoulders, and he's had to do it all by himself, which isn't necessarily fair. I think the pieces are coming in Chicago, and they're going to be good for a long time.

1:23:20But Bedard's a superstar. He's going to be a great player for a long time. It just might not be right now for Chicago as far as being a cup contender.

1:23:27Pat McAfee:Yeah, but maybe we don't call him Squid, though. That's not what I'm saying. I'm seeing a lot of that out there, though. How deep is Squid, you know? Like, where do we rank squid amongst the... What's right about squid? What would be below a squid? Cement in the skates, probably. No, cement skates means slow loser. So, we got, like, idiot. Shipper. Dork. Pigeon. Well, I'm not getting to there. I'm doing human stuff. Oh, you're doing regular stuff. Yeah, this is human stuff. If you could just give me the ranking, because pigeon, muppet, squid, your guys' words. I would just like to know where they rank.

1:24:02Pat McAfee:You know, like, you sit down at a card table to play poker. good piece of information is like what beats what you know i would like to know in your guys's word what's the worst is squid the worst because it sounds the way there's a q in there yeah nail gun's the best we know nail gun is what is what is like if you really want to get another hockey guy you walk up to a hockey guy and just want to right to the balls with a word what what is it squid that feels pretty big squid's not great um some guys throw around turbine he is a complete turbine i don't i don't know exactly why that gets thrown around um pigeon muppet you could go on and on some that i could say on the show some that i can't but oh squid i wouldn't i wouldn't use squid for bedard boys no way absolutely good to know okay it's clear yeah because they were saying connor yeah squid i didn't like that at all so now that we got that kind of figured out yeah we got to the bottom that's pretty rude that's right well they're not doing that though But you've seen it on the – Well, I haven't seen it.

1:25:02I've seen it everywhere. A lot. Everywhere. You didn't see it last night when we drove into Chicago when we almost got to the game? Sears Tower. Bedard's a squid. I don't know who put it up there. They did not do that. That is not true.

1:25:13Pat McAfee:They just need that to be known. Sears Tower did not do it. Is that his name? That's not the name anymore, but that's what I call it. What is the name of that thing now? Willis Tower, right? Yeah, you're right.

1:25:22Darius Butler:Some turbine changed the name. It was ridiculous.

1:25:25Pat McAfee:It sounds like maybe. Is that used properly there? Do we use turbine properly there or no?

1:25:30Darius Butler:Talking to you.

1:25:31Pat McAfee:Yeah, talking to you. Wake up, Horno.

1:25:33Darius Butler:Talking to you. Wake up, Squee. Anybody home, man? Guys, don't make us, man. The lights are on. Lights are on. No one's home.

1:25:44Pat McAfee:We know. All right. Let's talk other common. Let's not put this up yet, okay? There's an entire list here being shown to me of common disrespectful terms and insults in hockey. Pylon? Pylon? Okay. Okay. I've heard that before. What was that? They call you that, don't they? There's a old horn. Old horn is a bit of a pylon back there. The guy can't move, I think is what they're saying. The bench in the boots. Yeah, there it is. Grocery stick, a player who sits on the bench right in the middle separating the forwards from the defenseman. That's good. That's good. That might be. Yeah, that's good.

1:26:28Pat McAfee:That's the one. That might be a little good.

1:26:30Darius Butler:Bones a bit of a grocery stick. No.

1:26:33Pat McAfee:Bones in there working.

1:26:34Darius Butler:All-time pylons.

1:26:37Pat McAfee:All right, let's move. Hockey's back. We need to talk about actual hockey. Up in Boston, we have a pretty big ceremony to be had. Go ahead, Con, man. Yeah, Hornel, let's forget about the pylons, talk about the nail guns. Pasta donning the sea now for the Boston Bruins. A lot of people making a big deal about it because he got in. McAvoy didn't. What is kind of your take on that entire thing? and are the Boston Bruins probably favorites to win Lord Stanley's Cup or where do you see them this year? I wouldn't go that far, Conno, but I think it's unusual because there's not a ton of European captains and especially an original six team like Boston.

1:27:13But I know Pasta, not only does he have an all-time nickname, great style, great for the league, good personality, and I can't speak to exactly the leadership hierarchy in the Bruins dressing room. You know, McAvoy would have been a great choice. Pasta's a great choice, but I just think he's been there. He's been there for a long time. He's one of the best players in the league, some of the face of the NHL in a lot of ways, along with a lot of other guys. But I just love the swag and the style and everything that Pasta brings to the table. And no, I don't think the Bruins are favorites for the Cup.

1:27:47I think they can be near the top of the Atlantic Division this year, but I think Pasta's a great choice. I think he can lead them.

1:27:53Pat McAfee:Nah. The Atlantic Division's run by the same horses that have been running it for 20 straight years. Exactly where we want to be. Okay. You guys the favorites? We should be. No, I know you're not. It's the Panthers. Well, we're in the Metro. Yeah, we're not even into Atlanta. I'm about to win it all. Oh, you're talking about Stattany. Yeah. Here's about the Atlantic. Pittsburgh Penguins are going to win it all? That's why we brought everybody back, Hornel?

1:28:15Darius Butler:They're the favorites, yeah. I don't. I mean, I know. No, I don't think so, boys. What? I think they can sneak in, but I don't think Sid's going to win another cup in Pittsburgh as much as I love Sid. Plus 8 ,000, pretty good odds. I'll take that. That's worse than the Colts. Holy crap. We're dropping the puck tonight. He's talking about sneaking it in. What? Excuse me. Colts are plus 6 ,000. The Guidos have a worse chance than the Colts to raise the trophy?

1:28:44Pat McAfee:Horno's got no idea. Okay, this guy has no idea. That's the sportsbooks, baby. We're bringing him on the show. he's just spewing misinformation and obviously we all learn on what we need to believe as the season rolls on. It's hard to... Hold on. Thank you. Hold on. Go ahead, Tone. Thank you. Horno. Pittsburgh Penguins

1:29:01Darius Butler:are plus 8 ,000. The Boston Bruins plus 10 ,000. Oh my God. I'm putting down the box on that right now. Responsibly.

1:29:11Pat McAfee:Responsibly. Responsibly.

1:29:13Darius Butler:That made my day.

1:29:15Pat McAfee:Bruins over the pens. What? Tell them, Horno. That's all the draft kids are saying, Bob. All right, let's go to a team that is plus 6 ,000 somehow, has better odds than the Pittsburgh Penguins. A.J. Hawk has a question for you. Yeah, I want to know who's talking about the Columbus Blue Jackets, obviously. Plus 6 ,000, actually, when I saw that earlier, I wasn't feeling very good about it. Now that I see the other odds for these guys' squads, I feel great. But Zach Wierenski, obviously the 200-foot phenom we got here in Columbus, how's this season going to play out for them? And what do you think their optics are for this team?

1:29:45They got a new coach. Are the boys going to buy in? is i feel for some reason aj the the blue jackets are always mired in controversy their star players don't want to play there they want to play there they don't want to play there wierenski requests a trade they have a trade in place to dallas he rejects it says he wants to be a blue jacket kareel marchenko doesn't want to play there he just got traded to toronto matthew nyes comes in the other way to columbus which i think is a great move you get a player in march that had no interest in being a blue jacket they ship him to the maple leafs you get a stud player and matthew nye's coming the other way so and to speak on wierenski if this guy played in toronto he would have won two norris trophies already wierenski's that good plays in a smaller market he's an american so i don't think he gets all the credit he should but he's arguably the top defenseman in the nhl won the norris this past season and a top three in the conversation every single year.

1:30:38Total stud.

1:30:38Pat McAfee:You're telling me that a team that nobody wants to be on has better odds to win the Stanley Cup than a team that has Sidney Crosby on it? Okay.

1:30:47Darius Butler:And Gino.

1:30:48Pat McAfee:Okay. Before...

1:30:52Darius Butler:Flowers back.

1:30:53Pat McAfee:When the tooth is sharp, bub, it don't matter how long that thing is. Okay. You just start... We can get Gators now without long the tooth is. Yeah, we can crack through. Yeah, exactly. The Pittsburgh Penguins saber-tooths. That is what we are. Long, sharp strong teeth okay let's not be judging them too much on that note i don't i don't like these odds not one bit the conversation about not wanting to be places has certainly kind of heightened in my eyes uh after the olympics so all the boys that were on american teams after winning the gold medal uh got celebrated in their arenas and obviously it was held in high regard in the towns in which they were go to the grocery store maybe stop by hey thank you for what you did for America.

1:31:37Pat McAfee:The boys that were up on Canadian teams, very different reaction, I think. For obvious reasons, Canada loses. It feels like maybe they didn't get a chance to celebrate the incredible accomplishment and game that they had as much as everybody else. Brady's out of town. Halibut, right? Halibut, our goalie, stopped every puck. 100 shots is not enough for Halibut, okay, to do this. He held out. Is that still happening? and does that ever happen and he wants to get out into america and is this normal because in hockey i don't think i ever really know about holdouts or any of these types of like exits that you just mentioned a couple different times because hockey feels like such a this is what you do this is how you do it if you don't like it that's on you this is what hockey's always been this feels like a pretty large story that has been happening here post the olympics can you tell me a little bit more about it and how often this takes place yeah i think it's unusual but i also think as time has gone on the players have more power than ever before I mean when I broke in the league in 2007 you kind of put your head down you got the job done where you were at and you made the best of a situation even if you weren't happy now these guys are demanding out left and right and I don't think this is exclusive to American players I think it's happening right now because it's front and center but let's be honest if the Winnipeg Jets were a contender and a Stanley Cup favorite Connor Hellebuck would not be asking out if Dylan Larkin was playing on the Detroit Red Wings and they were a Stanley Cup favorite, he would not be asking out.

1:33:05Quinn Hughes would not be asking out if the Vancouver Canucks were a contender last year. So I think this is painting a negative light on Canadian teams, while maybe a little bit these American guys want to play for American markets. But let's be honest, if these Canadian teams were Stanley Cup contenders, these players would not be asking out. Same with Brady and Ottawa coming to Florida.

1:33:24Pat McAfee:Okay, thank you for clarifying what the... Boys, I got to run, though. I got a car to go to the arena. All right, you're the best. Ladies and gentlemen, Eric Jones. Thanks, boys. Oh, hockey's happening. Per Elliott Friedman, Connor Halibut to Carolina trade may now come down to Alexander Nikiching going to the St. Louis Blues. Blue Pucks is reporting that Elliott Friedman is reporting. I had a few sources reach out to say St. Louis has been a consistent pursuer, and some people are surprised it hasn't already happened. Sounds like Nashville tried and couldn't get there. Coach Saban, obviously owner of the Predators, one of the owners, I think you sent him into Halibut's house.

1:33:59Pat McAfee:You might be able to get the field done.

1:34:00Darius Butler:Is that a three-way trade then if Carolina and St. Louis is – is that what they're saying? Yeah, they'd be looking to work a three-way deal. Nice. That shouldn't be a lot. What do you mean? They just won Lord Stanley's Cup, and now they get Connor Hellebuck? No.

1:34:13Pat McAfee:I think – I agree. He might come in the Penguins, though. He could. Probably for Crosby and Malkin, but you don't want to do that. I know you don't. No. Could. No offense to Hellebuck. He had an incredible gold medal game, and I appreciate what he did. Yeah, he fell off the wagon after that one. Okay, well, whatever the case. You saying Crosby and Malkin would be what it takes to do that is? To get an American? You wouldn't do it? At least.

1:34:39Darius Butler:Not in a million years.

1:34:40Pat McAfee:Very valid point you just made there. They are 40 years old. Yeah, you get Hallibuck for 10 more years. I'm here from Pittsburgh. Sidney Crosby and Malkin in the 10. I'm looking at the future. Have brought you happiness. A lot of it in Pittsburgh.

1:34:53Darius Butler:They did bring me a ton. They're idols. I have pictures of them hanging in my basement. Man. 33 ain't young for a goalie. I hate to say it. It's true.

1:35:03Pat McAfee:We're not trading.

1:35:05Darius Butler:Goalies?

1:35:06Pat McAfee:Sidney Crosby and Malkin out of town to St. Louis or Carolina.

1:35:10Darius Butler:I thought we were getting McDavid in that deal too.

1:35:12Pat McAfee:I would like McDavid to come. Now, if we're talking McDavid, we can't take Crosby. Gino and Tanger. No, keep those guys. Give it six more months. McDavid will be begging to get out of Edmonton. We'll give you guys everybody else. But we got Sid, Geno, and Letang. Hockey starting. I'm sure we'll be able to follow all 82 games that they have as they drop pups.

1:35:35Darius Butler:84 now.

1:35:37Pat McAfee:They added two. Why add two more? That's why it's earlier this year. What kind of redonkulous move is that? Rangers brewing at the same time as Yankee Sox. Love that. Double box. New York and Boston battling. Oh, triple box. You know what else tonight? What's that? Nope. Nope. That's all. You know what else tonight, Connor? That's all that problem tonight, actually. The city you live in. What's going on? Are the Cods playing? Is it raw? No. Las Vegas Aces are coming to town. Played Indiana Fever. It was non-prime. WNBA playoffs happening tonight. Boom. As the Las Vegas Aces, who did not win it last year.

1:36:12Pat McAfee:The Liberty won it last year. And they are taking on the Fever here. And this is game three of the series. Game two. Game two. Must win. Best three. Win or go. Win or stay home. Saxaton. I was going to say, and that's a huge mistake. Why? Because we won't be able to four box it. Bingo. And guess what I will not be doing? Sacrificing Yankees and Red Sox for this game. Oh, so the Aces are looking to go back to back right now? Yeah, I believe. Yeah, they won three of four. So they're looking for four or five this year. Oh, because they're in the middle of their dynasty. The Liberty stole one there.

1:36:48Pat McAfee:That was two years ago. Last year, Aces win their third in four years, potentially going four and five. That's a real dynasty over there. That's a real dynasty. over there. They got a problem on their hands tonight, though, as the fever are going to catch fire. It's going to be a hot night for the ladies down there in Gainbridge Fieldhouse. D-Bot, you going? You know it. Nice. Congrats. All right, man. You touching wood? Panthers. I don't know. I don't know yet. Still waiting to secure my ticket. So, I might not be in here. It's a hot ticket. Go on CK right now. They're available. No, no, not.

1:37:23Sold up. I checked the board of shows. Sold up. Green dots. No, no, no. You're lying. Tyrese is a season ticket holder. You're going with him. First home playoff game? All right. Ever? No. They won a title in 2012 with Tamika Catchings. Catch out. I said Caitlin Clark. Didn't they go to the finals last year? No. Something like that. Kelsey Mitchell, Boston. Come on, man. What's your problem? Catchings can shoot, man.

1:37:47Pat McAfee:Tamika, still a legend in Indy. Yeah. Everything she did. She wanted to go. Olympic gold medalist multiple times. She is an absolute beast here in Indy. Speaking of SeatGeek, use code PATMACAFEE for$30 off tickets. Here are the top-selling Week 4 games of the NFL. Cowboys, Texans, the Battle of Texas down there. Green Bay versus the Buccaneers. Chiefs, Raiders, Broncos, Niners, and Patriots, Bills. Use code PATMACAFEE for$30 off tickets with our friends at SeatGeek. What are you so upset about this graphic? They better be selling those Packers Bucs tickets for$5, bucks and that's why they're the hot item i feel like baker's not playing and the packers are

1:38:26Darius Butler:hammered dog shit that's one of those before the season all the packers fans probably tickets to

1:38:31Pat McAfee:tampa bay to go on vacation and go to a game a lot of packers fans though packers fans fill up stadiums they travel everywhere yeah and that's you know you don't get a chance to play in a lot of places so like all the packers fans from that area are going to go it's just like when the game's in london or brazil and they're just wearing all different uniforms and everything you know that yeah that's how packers fans are right you guys fill up at literally every state aj don't the Packers fill up every stadium? Yeah. I mean, a lot of people tell you, like, Pittsburgh and Green Bay fans travel very, very well.

1:38:57Like, some of the best in the whole league.

1:38:59Pat McAfee:Cowboys, Niners, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, right, I think would be the four that have, like, and that's because they had dynasties way back whenever generations became fans of the NFL. So I always talk about those fan bases, you know, kind of migrating throughout the country and being in other places. Pittsburgh Steelers fans, there's allegedly a Pittsburgh Steeler bar in every single city in the country, obviously, because the steel mills and working and then traveling from Pittsburgh out throughout the rest of the world. They're not the only ones. Packers fans are the same way as the way they love the Green Bay and will travel to watch their cheesehead friends, you know, do battle.

1:39:33Pat McAfee:It does feel like Packers fans are in an interesting spot, you know? It feels like you got – and this is me just strictly reading off of you. Sure. And maybe you're overreacting, you think, a little bit, or do you think you – Definitely. No, no, no, definitely. Definitely, absolutely. But guess what? Like, I'm going to continue to do so. You know how hard it is to watch a football team when they can't block anybody? Oh, it's impossible. It's impossible to watch that game and enjoy it. Now, granted, they did just sign like eight guys, so we might have a completely new offensive line, and maybe that helps.

1:40:02But also, Baker Mayfield's not playing this weekend. Jalen Daniels, the undrafted rookie, is playing this weekend. I've seen and read this book about 10 ,000 times. I know exactly what happens on Sunday. And he can run. And he can run. He looked good. And guess what? He's going to pass for a lot of yards, and he's going to run for a lot of yards. It's a tale as old as time.

1:40:22Pat McAfee:I hope that the Packers turn around for you. Me too. I hope that that happens. Wasn't it a crazy backup quarterback stat or like 6-0? Yeah. Guys who didn't start week one. Yeah. Uh-oh. Non-week one starters. Not backup quarterback. It's an interesting – It's odd, yeah. Penix is on that list, but would you say that he's the backup? You know, it's a weird thing. So if you didn't start the season as the quarterback, starting quarterback, 6-0. But also, yeah, because then you could give Drew Locke and Carson two wins. Two more. Yeah, all these guys are back up. Yeah. Wasn't Tua named a starter or no?

1:40:58True. Oh, when Penix wasn't healthy. Yeah, right.

1:41:01Pat McAfee:Yeah, Penix had two weeks where he wasn't healthy. He can't name a starter yet. Still not healthy. As soon as he was healthy, he's in there. So, yes, I guess we could say all these are backups. But it's just non-week one starting quarterbacks have gone 6-0 as starters. So, I mean, the year of the backup quarterback did happen a couple years ago where we saw a number in which we – Yeah, had never seen before. Maybe that happens again. I hope not. And maybe that's because of how physical football is. We could have seen Jalen out of that game last night. Yeah. I mean, there was a time for the first time since 2017, we had Case Keenum and E.

1:41:33Pat McAfee:Dalton. They played in 2007, they said, at TCU. Yeah, the Texas Bowl. At Houston or whatever. You know what was the overreaction? You just mentioned that a few moments ago. You guys talking about that hit on the sideline last night with Jalen Hurts. That was close. Toe on the way. That's my quarterback. He was going out of bounds, clearly. Right at the first down marker. I think that's called every single time. I think they call that every single time. What's the rule, though? What's the rule? Technically, his foot did start. If you see him going out of bounds, you can't touch him. Is that the rule?

1:42:03I mean. We got to read attention. He was still in. It's right at the sticks. It's right at the sticks. And what if he lowers his head and tries to get that first down?

1:42:10Pat McAfee:Yeah, and I guess he could have turned up. He did turn out. and maybe he was already down in there, but I think your guy who hit him standing out of bounds while hitting him I think is a reason to say maybe not. Every inch. Maybe not every inch including the paint out there. But the way Jalen gets bumped. Oh, that's why they called him. Yeah. I didn't see that angle because he laid down face down. Full on bump. I mean, he is flying through the air right now. He was going to be short of the first down. Yeah, because I hit him. But, I mean, he's out of bounds hitting him out of bounds. I think that's going to be called, I don't know, 100 times probably.

1:42:45Yeah, quarterbacks do the little, right before you go out, get over the.

1:42:48Pat McAfee:A little switch hand. Make sure. You never know. Because the first down goes around the entire world. Yeah, it certainly does. You just got to make sure you pass it at some point. And, yeah, I think that's going to get called 100 times out of 100 times, I think. So maybe not an overreaction. But on that note, we did wait until Tuesday for this week's overreaction tweets, strictly because we could have got something from last night. That was a prime position for a backup quarterback taking on Philadelphia Eagles. You know, Eagles fans maybe get into the game a little bit. And they didn't. But we got some Bears fans that certainly got in and Packers fans that got into it.

1:43:21Pat McAfee:So, ladies and gentlemen, it's time for a hashtag. I don't want to overreact. But sent a tweet out yesterday saying, hey, let me hear some of your fandom emotions. And if they're good in Ty's eyes, they'll make the game. Hey, Ty Schmidt and Pat McPherson, I'm a late candidate because my team played today. but hashtag I don't want to overreact but the Chicago Bears put ass to belt not belt to ass that belt was out there and they were forcing the ass off of the belt that's what he meant it's more disrespectful think about how much explosion you have to have in your bones to pick up somebody and throw their ass off of a belt because a belt is small so people kind of understand actually make it hurt.

1:44:06Yeah, too. You have to really swing that human pretty hard.

1:44:09Pat McAfee:Especially with where their ass is. Your foot swinging a foot a little bit more. We need like five Brock Lesnar's to do this. That's what he said they did last night. It wasn't just five. It was actually 22 of them things. You can put Cairo in there, too. Chicago Bears kicker did that. Hashtag, I don't want to overreact. The Chicago Bears put ass to belt against the Eagles with our QB3. and the Packers lost with their QB1 against the Falcons. Oh, my God. Oh, Ty. Ow. Raul Del Rio III, there had been two others before, just absolutely dropping gems on the state of the Packers and the Bears right now.

1:44:48Pat McAfee:Is this an overreaction or is this the truth, Ty Schmidt? You know what? It's an overreaction for now at least because guess what? In about seven weeks, history will tell a very different story about that Thursday night football game. when Penix is the leading candidate for MVP at the week nine mark, and this guy's already thrown 45 touchdowns and has one interception. It was the one he threw on the opening drive. We're going to really reframe how we were talking about the Atlanta Falcons early in the season. So you're saying Atlanta Falcons would be a good football team. Let's go to the next overreaction, shall we?

1:45:23Pat McAfee:This one's from Pittsburgh. Nick Merola in the back. Hashtag I don't want to overreact. But an opening drive touchdown. More than seven points in the first quarter. Pre-snap motions. Big slashes in the run game. Legit pass blocking. DK catching the ball in the end zone. Big Mike was cooking. Stullers are all the way back. Bungles are still the Bungles. AJ, I know you were torn here. Grow up. Bengals fan. Played for the Bengals. And then you got Aaron Rodgers playing his best ball that he's played in sometime. And Big Mike drawing up absolute beauties to cook this Bengals defense. AJ, what did you think of the Pittsburgh Steelers?

1:46:02Pat McAfee:And do you think Nick is right for saying, you know what? This Steelers team might be the best Steelers team we've ever had. I don't think this is too big of an overreaction. I think it's legit. Like, look at the blocking. Obviously, it's much better. I think Aaron played very well. He spreads the ball around. Like, this Steelers team, if they can continue to have some consistent success on offense, they're going to be very, very good. And I think for people that are sick of watching the Steelers, like, dink and dunk for however many years, they have to be pretty excited. They can push the ball down the field.

1:46:27We know they have guys that can make explosive plays on the outside.

1:46:30Pat McAfee:Yeah, and now Skoronix getting into the offense. And then on special teams, he literally put his face through a dude to recover a muffed punt. It's like the Steelers have a different attitude here now than they did for the first couple weeks. And Big Mike McCarthy, he might be in that kitchen. He might be whipping in the kitchen. I haven't seen him on the microphone yet. Everybody, I've seen two people on the microphone. Yeah, I've seen that. Awesome. Big Mike's been on there? No, I have not, but I've seen the one you're talking about. I saw you and Saban on there. Really?

1:46:59Darius Butler:I think Saban actually put that one out, I thought.

1:47:01Pat McAfee:Oh, really? Hey, I thought that was a fake page. It was. Coach Saban's got that document. I could be very wrong. I didn't know he was so into the social media videos and trends. I didn't see that. Am I the one dancing or spitting? You were takeoff. Yeah, you were on the right side. Okay, I like that. On that note, I think Saban's probably the one spitting there and I'm probably the one doing and dancing, if I had to guess. So I'm happy that exists out there. I've seen a lot of people together doing that. I'm pretty proud of it. It kind of brought the world together. Yeah. That's pretty good. I like that that's happening.

1:47:32Pat McAfee:Started with two cats. And now the Pittsburgh Steelers are potentially all united. Yeah. Including the fans. Yeah. That we might have something here. Maybe this old Yinser we hired as a head coach isn't some big dumb dude shit. Maybe Aaron Rodgers can play good football. Maybe we don't even need Joey Porter Jr. That's still kind of looming, isn't it? Is that still looming right now, Tone?

1:47:55Darius Butler:Yeah, it's cooking a bit. Actually, Jerry Jones was asked today about Joey Porter Jr., and he had some comments. He said, I'm not going to tamper, but we're looking into everything. I believe Shafter reported the Cowboys and the Lions potentially are snooping around. So we'll see what happens. Still hasn't played a game this year. It's practicing, though, so it's day to day.

1:48:18Pat McAfee:Shafter reported a handful of teams, including the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions, have begun making inquiries about the availability of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Joey Porter Jr. Leak sources told ESPN. Was there a graphic on Sunday countdown? Yes, there was. Was that real? I don't know if it was real. Everything is so good at being edited now, but I saw what you were talking about where it said contract underneath. It was hilarious.

1:48:39Darius Butler:Oh, I did see that, yeah.

1:48:40Pat McAfee:I don't know if it was real, but it does feel like that is what it's been this entire time. Yep. And if they're both going to just stay firm in their stances, Are we just wasting time, a career, legacy, talent, everything? Is he doing full practice? Like, is he taking reps with the ones?

1:48:58Darius Butler:No. Well, yesterday was limited. Or sorry. It says, like, conditioning. It says full practice, but it's listed as, like, conditioning. And there was some other letters next to it. I don't know what it is, but, you know, you don't love ball. You don't love ball. Already, Tony. Already to hear. This is what happened. Yesterday was his first full participation in practice.

1:49:20Pat McAfee:Okay. On the air. Okay, so maybe he's back up and at him this week.

1:49:22Darius Butler:It was a walkthrough, though, because they play on Thursday.

1:49:25Pat McAfee:Oh, but maybe on Thursday night he gets a big-time pick against Cleveland Browns. Start celebrating a little bit. He ends just like, look at this guy. Played without a long-term contract. We like what he's doing here. Risking his entire future and his family's future for the good of us. We love this guy.

1:49:40Darius Butler:Say that as soon as I see cleats on grass. Or he gives up a third down slant.

1:49:44Pat McAfee:This guy only cares about money. He don't care about his team. Maybe it's a practice.

1:49:50Darius Butler:That's never happened, so that's not going to happen on Thursday either. What's that? He ain't never giving up a third down slam.

1:49:56Pat McAfee:Okay, so you still respect his game.

1:49:58Darius Butler:Yeah, he's a goddamn good football player.

1:50:02Pat McAfee:So maybe somebody should treat him that way.

1:50:05Darius Butler:You're right. Also, you can't get paid until you're on a field.

1:50:09Pat McAfee:All right. All right, Tone. Got to negotiate it. Let's go to another city that certainly loves their players whenever they're playing good football. Let's go up to New England. At Boston Conner tweets, hashtag I don't want to overreact, but people are saying Drake May's name is actually Drake Extra Male because of the subs he's been throwing out there. I don't know what the hell is going on with the Patriots. Not an overreaction. I think a lot of people are saying this. Troy Aikman last night, though, in a very good discussion on Monday Night Countdown said, there's a lot of things going on with this offense.

1:50:40Pat McAfee:It's not just Drake May. There's a couple decisions, obviously, that we're all second-guessing. The ball's slipping out of his hand because there's blood on the ball. Looks amateur and sounds amateur. But anytime you're an MVP finalist one year and you're in the same offensive system and they add a weapon, even though he's not up right now, but they invest in the offense, you think everybody's going to be better, you expect a massive leap at least. You expect that type of thing. And it seemingly hasn't happened. Is there too much going on? What do you genuinely think is going on? And when does he snap out of it, you think?

1:51:07I think it's a combination of your number one wide receiver, AJ Brown, gets hurt 20 plays in the season. I do think that has a big deal to do with it. The first three games, Seahawks, Steelers, Jags, you're playing three division winners, one Super Bowl champion to start your season. So it's going to be tough no matter what. How ugly it looks on offense is shocking. I'm really not sure what it is. You would have thought there would be some sort of progression in the offense, maybe more plays, more motions, the types of things that we're used to seeing in these kind of new school offenses. I don't know if it's the McDaniels offense changing.

1:51:39A lot of the times decisions like this were exactly why Drake May was good last year was that he wasn't making these bonehead plays, and he was incredibly accurate with the football. Third most accurate season throwing the football in the history of the NFL. It's just not how it is this year. We'll see. I still got a lot of hope. There's 14 games left. But, yeah, it doesn't look good right now on offense.

1:52:01Pat McAfee:Yeah, and Vrabel we all think is a great coach, right? Yes. So he should be able to reach them. If somebody's going through something, you would hope that the leader, the alpha commander, the – The supreme commander. The supreme commander. He was trying to – Yeah, he had to – At that point, it was too late. Hey, listen. A lot of terrible thoughts in your head right now, I assume. This has been a nightmare, certainly. You're going to be okay, kid. A lot of days you still got to live out here.

1:52:30Darius Butler:People are saying Drake lost respect for him and doesn't want to play for him anymore. Yep. A bunch of tweets like that. But there's so much left. And to be completely honest with you, it's not even worst-case scenario. It just hasn't looked good so far. I have a lot of faith left in New England for the rest of the season.

1:52:46Pat McAfee:Me too. I think Drake may have figures it out. Too much of a hooper not to. You know, like in my eyes. Too athletic, too competitive, too good at the position to not figure it out and maybe get going. But it has not been what we thought it was going to be. There's been some takes on the offensive line maybe. How do they feel? How do they trust? How do they call plays with that? Probably the best part of the team so far on offense has been Will Campbell. Oh, nice. Welcome back, Will Campbell. Happy to hear that. So there is things to build on. Maybe they find it. And remember, if your team's ass right now, it doesn't mean they're going to be ass forever.

1:53:15But if they're good, you might become shite.

1:53:19Pat McAfee:That's football in a nutshell. MLB tonight. Same with the NHL. We'll see you tomorrow. Goodbye. Oh, WNBA. We got it. We got it early. Fever Aces. Fever Aces. What time does Fever tip off? 7.30. Okay.

1:53:31Darius Butler:Eastern. Okay.

1:53:35Pat McAfee:Is that what time the game is, Debo? You're heading down to it? Yeah, you're the one going there at 5, Debo. I think 630. 630? 630 Central? I think I'm not sure. You should throw the opening tip off. Oh, that's not a bad idea. They do do that. It's a real game, guys. The ref, the official does it. No. What do you mean, AJ? We're talking ceremonial. He thinks it's a fan of the banana. We're talking ceremonial. We're talking ceremonial opening. You know how they do that. No. It's a fever game. It is at 630. Haley Clark, Kelsey. 630? 6.30.

1:54:04Darius Butler:How are we going to beat traffic? You're telling me my freaking garage gets used by all the people going to the game. It sucks.

1:54:10Pat McAfee:I understand because you're downtown, boy. If this goes in, you know what's happening tonight. No injuries. Oh, interesting. Two different things. If there are no injuries, the fever shall win. And to that, we celebrate. Kelsey!

1:54:27Darius Butler:That doesn't work because it was a football for basketball. You can't do football. You can't cross. Good call, Tone. You're right, Tone. Oh, no.

1:54:34Pat McAfee:And on that note, let's do it again.

1:54:36Darius Butler:Shoot the sparkly one.

1:54:37Pat McAfee:Oh, can't do that. Oh, shit. A new camera angle? Uh-oh. I think it's going to be a close game. Extra braces tonight. What do you mean new camera angle? Looks like when you cut to it, that's a different camera angle than usual. It looks a little higher. It might be zoomed in a little differently, potentially. I don't know if Bruce moved the cameras or not. I think that is a spin camera. I did see him up there yesterday. Yeah, I got no idea if that's the same as it's always been or not. Which is kind of a fun part of the game. If this one goes in, no more injuries in football season. Okay. All right.

1:55:12What about for hockey? That's inevitable. That doesn't matter. Some guy's got a fractured skull already. Yeah.

1:55:18Pat McAfee:I saw that. But they're going to play through it, right? Yeah, he's a gold medalist. Brock Faber's savage. Actually has a cracked skull? I don't think he's playing through it. actually has a fractured skull on the injury report. All right, hope he gets healthy. Did they just tape that? Like, what do you put a helmet on? A bunch of duct tape around his head, and it kind of goes back together eventually. And the thing is, that is just like considered probably normal amongst the hockey people. Ah, cracked his skull. You know what it is. Fucking duct tape, pal. Fable campaign night. It is probably described as an upper body, of course.

1:55:49Pat McAfee:I can't believe we found out that that even happened in the hockey world.

1:55:52Darius Butler:He did stay in the game. He didn't miss the next shift. What do you mean game? Oh, my God. He did have surgery on his skull.

1:55:57Pat McAfee:This happened in preseason? Yeah. As you know, he cracked his skull open. What do you mean? Yeah, just broke his skull. Thought he had a headache. It's tough. The tough thing is with the cranium, we don't know how fast that bone is just going to grow back. It's always kind of a fickle thing. You know, like a hamstring cranium. We tape it. Tell him to sleep in a chair. Not lay down.

1:56:19Darius Butler:Put a couple bolts in him like Frankenstein. I'm pretty sure. Put him back on.

1:56:23Pat McAfee:I mean, potentially that is end-all, be-all for hockey players. They would do that and expect them to play. Drill holes in his helmet so the bolts are sticking out. And then force them to go through like a metal detector, too. You know, just make everything as hard as possible. Eat some pucks. There's dolphins on the screen right now. It looks very beautiful. I think it's a moment of zen. Been having a lot. Oh, I love a moment of zen. I do. Yeah. A fancy moment of zen. Absolutely. I didn't know how I felt about it at the very beginning because sometimes that moment of zen is like a half a second.

1:56:53Pat McAfee:Yeah, it's true. It's like, we're right back into something. Sports normally pretty loud. But I'll tell you, when a moment of Zen pops up now, I can't help but find myself going, yeah, thank you, dolphin for swimming me around the ocean right now. I get pretty jacked up about that. Oh, yeah. Need it. Need it? Looks like it's...

1:57:14Darius Butler:Strong communities are built in the places where life happens, where families build their lives, where students build their futures, where businesses create opportunity. Bloom Energy provides reliable power for the places communities depend on every day. From hospitals and college campuses to stores and factories, clean, quiet power that uses little water right where it's needed so communities can keep moving forward. Bloom Energy, power America relies on.

1:58:11Pat McAfee:I've never seen it. seen one online or in person but i i'm sure you would guess with me they're probably out there yeah i mean we learned a lot when uh tiger king hit our lives about people that have these jungle safaris that are interestingly licensed and they have people come pay and do things that you can ever imagine in the united states of america bordering on is that legal or good or ethical and what happens when they all get out you know that whole thing i didn't even think about a potential, you know, mini little dolphin meet and greet in a backyard, above-ground pool that people could be having just in random towns around the United States.

1:58:52Pat McAfee:That's Ohio. Yeah, I mean, in Ohio, I couldn't even imagine what those dolphins are doing, too, whenever people get in there. Yeah, man. You know. Especially going into above-ground pool dolphin meet and greet. They're not happy. Better clench your cheeks in there. Were you trying to kiss them? No. You know, they get behind you and they push people. You're talking about clenching your butt cheeks. Butt cheeks? Yeah, yes. Yeah, yeah. Because, you know, they push people. Sometimes, you know, you don't want to get caught. I would imagine those rogue dolphins in those backyard situations. Sure. We know they're sexual beings.

1:59:26They're going to try to take advantage of people. They are sexual beings.

1:59:29Pat McAfee:And I think that's what we're referring to. But I don't know how. So how often do you think about people having dolphins in their backyard for meet and greets. AJ? Me? Yeah. It just popped in my head, honestly, 30 seconds ago right now. But, yeah, the whole situation. I've seen all the documentaries on the killer whales. Of course, yeah. Blackfish, I believe, was the name of the one that really turned everybody against the entire, like, man, that's kind of a mess up. And then, obviously, Taquete. Yeah. Lolita. Rest in peace. Rest in peace to Lolita down there. Those whales are very big. Yeah. Yeah.

2:00:08Pat McAfee:They're smart. Very smart. Beautiful creatures. They're pretty, oh, is that right, type of creature. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Remember when they were doing that to the boats? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh, that's fun. Welcome to our water. Whoa, I'm getting kind of fucking seasoned. Holy shit. And then another one pops up. What's up, bitch? Boom. Get in. The boat's in a wave pool. Bang, bang. And then another one comes up. Boom. Little kid whale pops up, jumps up out of there. Bang. Capsizes the boat. Ha ha ha ha! As they're floating down. Yeah. Swim away. Find another boat. Yeah. Yeah. Just for fun. Yeah, they're not even killing humans.

2:00:46Just fuck with you. Don't come around here.

2:00:48Pat McAfee:What's this thing up here?

2:00:49Darius Butler:They don't care if you drown. They won't eat you, though. But yeah. Not eat you.

2:00:53Pat McAfee:Yeah, but I don't think... Like dolphins, I see in the movies, they come down underneath and they'll actually go underneath you and ride you back up. Pick you up. You just gotta be able to surf, I think, because you stand on dolphins.

2:01:02Darius Butler:Correct. Right. Which is illegal, though.

2:01:04Pat McAfee:Surfing on dolphins?

2:01:05Darius Butler:Yeah. See, why can't we just live? I just saw a note from Zito. 2020, all SeaWorlds and stuff outlawed surfing on dolphins. That's during Flowrider concerts only at SeaWorld. SeaWorld is bringing it. Yeah, they do bring it. I saw the Ying. I saw the Ying. Yeah, you could definitely do it in Mexico for sure.

2:01:24Pat McAfee:Yeah.

2:01:25Darius Butler:You could do anything in Mexico, to be honest.

2:01:26Pat McAfee:Yeah, but they don't have Ying Yang twins. No, they don't. No point. How'd that become the best venue in town? Yeah, that's a cool venue. Has that been open for a long time? We're just finding out. I don't know. I think just the last couple years, it really started deciding, this is what we're going to do now that we can't have any whales in here.

2:01:41Darius Butler:It's actually where the Beatles played their last concert. Soldier Boy.

2:01:44Pat McAfee:Really?

2:01:45Darius Butler:Mm-hmm.

2:01:45Pat McAfee:I didn't know that.

2:01:46Darius Butler:Before John got killed, yeah.

2:01:48Pat McAfee:So it has been going a pretty long time then.

2:01:50Darius Butler:Yeah.

2:01:51Pat McAfee:Wow. Did they just perform over the whales that were in the water? Yeah.

2:01:55Darius Butler:Wow.

2:01:56Pat McAfee:Soldier Boy.

2:01:56Darius Butler:They actually did it in a yellow submarine in the plastic.

2:02:01Pat McAfee:Good call. Here's some dolphins flopping around in a pool. Mitt just found on the internet. Who posted this, Mitt? Where is this? Mitt just says, here's dolphins flopping around in a pool. Great pool here. Looks like SeaWorld. That's right, Mitt. These are certainly some spry dolphins kind of going for it. Oh, this is in SeaWorld. Okay, this is SeaWorld. Still bringing it. Thank you for that, Mitt. We do need to see what dolphins look like in there. They're still doing it, bringing it. All right, if this goes in, this goes in, no more injuries. Okay.

2:02:39Darius Butler:Which sport? Dolphins, humans, sports. Everything. Across the board.

2:02:45Pat McAfee:There's no chance I was going in ever. All right, let's move along. Injuries are inevitable. Exactly. Sorry, I couldn't help. Sorry, I couldn't help. Let's talk about some of the headlines happening around the NFL. Odell Beckham Jr. has been released from the New York Giants. Already? No. Today that happened. Odell Beckham Jr. and the New York Giants reunion began at league meetings out in Arizona where John Harbaugh and Odell had a sit down. There were some rumors. There were some rumblings. There was a workout. Then there was a buy-in to be in third, fourth wide receiver. Whatever you need, I'm just excited to be here.

2:03:19Pat McAfee:And now the Giants have released Odell Beckham Jr. via Mike Garofalo and Rapchi. No senior on the board here at New York, which is obviously a bit surprising in the Schefter world. But Odell Beckham Jr. getting released. AJ, your thoughts? I know we'd seen him on the field a lot. We'd seen him running a lot. He did look open in certain clips that we would see. He looked like he was buying in, blocking downfield. Whatever role you have for me, I'm excited to be a part of. What do you think this says? And what do you think is next for Odell Beckham Jr., AJ? I mean, I think there's a chance another team could pick him up.

2:03:52He might be all right with it, the fact that he hasn't gotten on the field really as a receiver like he hoped to. I wouldn't be shocked if another team picked him up. But that's the thing. If you are the third or fourth receiver, like a team expects you to play special teams. That's the thing. That's what makes it really hard as a vet to step on there. If you're not getting a bunch of playing time, especially if you're not starting, they're going to need you to be on a couple of the special teams. And obviously, like a veteran receiver like him is probably not going to be running down on kickoff and be on kickoff return.

2:04:18So I understand probably why they do it. But I still think Odell could play somewhere else.

2:04:22Pat McAfee:Schultze on the break as well on the internet. A little latte out there. Yeah, congrats to him getting the news break, still bringing it across the board. And then Ari Mirov quote tweets that and aggregates and says, OBJ, by the way, had zero catches for zero yards on one target in three games. Kind of piles on a little bit. Those are the facts. But can you talk a little bit about OBJ, D-Butt? And to AJ's point, some positions, linebacker, running back, tight end, wide receiver, I do believe. if you're down the depth chart oh yeah you are a massive piece of special teams need speed need speed need to be able to cover you're learning a whole new thing that might have been the reason maybe there's some numbers elsewhere that they need to figure out do but your thoughts maybe dressing a couple more quarterbacks with their quarterback situation who knows but uh yeah but he hasn't been productive who knows what's going on you know in practice or in the meeting rooms but i'm sure he's mentally prepared for the game but that's why we kind of got robbed of a big chunk of Odell's career because of injuries, which unfortunately just happened in this game.

2:05:26But, you know, he was special, had a special career at one point. I think he was probably the most popular American football player in the world for a few years for a stretch there. Hopefully he does bounce back, get on his feet. He clearly wants to still play football. I love that he bought in, you know, being one of the most popular players in New York. So hopefully he does get to continue his career. But if not, you know, good on you, OBJ. Had a great career.

2:05:47Pat McAfee:Yeah, the Odell Beckham Jr. athlete conversation hopefully remains forever. Could have played soccer professionally. Could have probably did basketball, track. I think anything he would have been able to do. Obviously, we've seen him throw a football like 75 yards, insane catches, still has the speed. The buy-in at this stage to be the Giants' third or fourth wide receiver, I thought was really cool. Very eager to see what he does next. Does he continue to try to do this? Because I think he might run into the same problem if it is a special teams problem at every single place. But maybe we get OBJ returning some kicks.

2:06:23Pat McAfee:Yeah, maybe. Maybe we get OBJ this late into his career returning some kicks. You never know. I saw him catch a kickoff one-handed whenever we were there for Monday Night Football. Oh. So that's end over end. Okay, coming at head. That's so difficult to do. Catches it one-handed and then jogs away. You know, and then his warm-up is just outrageous. just, you know, just absolutely. I mean, one-handed catches, even though it goes generations down. Like, even my little kids, like five-year-old kids, if they make a one-handed catch, they still call it an OBJ. Like, I would assume that's going to be, that's going to live on for a long time.

2:06:55Pat McAfee:I don't know if we've got to the bottom of it, speaking of the Giants. J.J. McCarthy traded for a fifth rounder. The thought is, you know, and I think Swagu made a good point last night. He said, this is like boom or who cares, you know? People are saying it's boom or bust move. It's like it's a fifth rounder. Maybe he'll be good in the hardball system with the Giants and give them something that they need at the moment, which is a good backup quarterback behind Jameis Winston. And if it doesn't work out, it was just a fifth rounder. We can find a fifth rounder if we need it really, really bad in the future.

2:07:24Pat McAfee:Where do you sit on this 24 hours later tie of J.J. McCarthy going to the Giants? I suppose I could see that, but I still don't think that you're trading for him. I think the intention is that, hey, we've seen enough out of Jameis. We don't want to wave the white flag and punt on the season, so we've got to try to do something. I mean, just like his build and the way he moves and all that kind of stuff, he's kind of similar to Jackson Dart. Now he hasn't had as much success as Jackson Dart has early, but it's pretty evident. I don't think you can run Jameis out there every single week. I don't think he's going to win very many football games with them.

2:07:59So maybe J.J. does just need a change of scenery. Maybe he was. I mean, you assume that he was a top ten pick for a reason, and who knows? Maybe he gets there and picks up the offense, and all of a sudden he kind of salvages their season. But I can't imagine that you trade him just to be Jameis' backup.

2:08:14Darius Butler:Yeah, it's like, yes, it comes in as the backup because they didn't really have a backup behind Jameis. Like if Jameis went down, they were in a very, very tough spot. But no, like you trade for him with the idea of him coming in, I assume in a couple weeks, and then still having a chance to potentially win the NFC East because that's definitely up in the air when you look at that division because no one's been super impressive. Everyone has their weaknesses. and then see what you could do in the playoffs. Because he's probably not your quarterback going forward. Jackson Tartier, your quarterback going forward.

2:08:43Darius Butler:Hopefully. Hopefully he's healthy and stuff like that. And maybe his injury is worse than it is. But, no, I think this is definitely like a, hey, this is our guy that we think can potentially win best with this season.

2:08:52Pat McAfee:J.J. McCarthy's career stats with a great graphic here. Wearing the number 18 in the graphic. Wow. He was nine, obviously, in Minnesota and in Michigan. That was a big part of the conversation. Wherever you get memed to death about getting nine out of your mind, that's not a great thing. 6-4. Winner record. Pretty good. 15 total touchdowns. Okay. That's more than interceptions. Over 57 % completion. 72.6 % passer rating. So, J.J. McCarthy, we all watched it. Didn't get to play a lot, okay, because of injuries. And when he played, there wasn't a lot of great, and then there was a spark of greatness.

2:09:28Pat McAfee:Out of nowhere, Ken Harbaugh and the Giants pull it out of him. Great graphic there, the number 18. And that's not because he has the power to be two nines. Oh. Okay, which maybe. Yeah, you never know. His second act. And as D-Bone pointed out, it's not because 8 plus 1 is 9. Okay. It's potentially because there's a lack of available numbers with the New York football giants. That's a real thing, you know, because you've got retired numbers. I guess you've got a lot of taken numbers. I guess the number 18 is a number that is not retired. Darius Slayton, I believe, wore it in the preseason, and it's somewhere near a relation to 9.

2:10:02Pat McAfee:So D-Bone took a guess on the number 18 here. Let's go to New York Giants fan Bruce Brown. Do we think 18 is the number that he'll be wearing? And how do you feel about D-Bone piecing together a graphic showcasing your new quarterback? Yeah, I do appreciate this graphic. It's a great one. I think 18 is a fair guess. Two nines stacked on top of each other. Eight plus one equals nine. But I do agree that it is sort of like a who cares or great if he shows some promise. I don't know if the book's out on Jameis. The second game was in the Nor 'easter. Obviously, he struggled against the Rams. But, you know, I think we kind of give him a pass on the Nor 'easter game.

2:10:42He didn't turn the ball over. Now we see if, you know, taking on the Cardinals, he can throw the ball or if he, you know, just kind of lost it.

2:10:49Pat McAfee:Okay, so Jame is still the guy. And it felt like the more information we got, it was like not necessarily expecting him. Like, they're just trying to see if he's maybe a guy that they want to keep in the building. And I guess we let it unfold on the field as we always do. Deshaun Watson admitted that he got a little teary-eyed when the fans cheered for him the first time in a long, long time. Cleveland Browns hosting Pittsburgh Steelers here for Thursday Night Football. How do you feel about the Brownies, and how do the Brownies fans feel about the Brownies? Because them chanting and cheering for Deshaun, he said got him a little bit emotional that maybe this is home, and it hasn't gone great at all, but maybe it does now because we've got the right guy, Munkin, and maybe we have the right offense in place.

2:11:30Pat McAfee:How do the Browns fans feel about the Brownies? I mean, this is a huge game. I'm around a lot of Browns fans, and they are like, you know, week to week, they can be a rollercoaster of emotions, no question, kind of like Tone Diggs with the Pittsburgh Steelers. There's some Cleveland Browns fans that have similar reactions, but they are pumped because they start thinking, man, if we can go win a primetime game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a big rival like that, we're truly on our way. So I think this is kind of like a – they're kind of a measuring stick of how good they are, and I feel like if they can get a win here, then anything is possible.

2:11:59Browns are 7-0 since what year?

2:12:02Pat McAfee:2018.

2:12:03Darius Butler:They've also won their last nine home Thursday night games. The Browns are 10-2 all-time at home on Thursday night.

2:12:10Pat McAfee:Wow. Dog Pond shows up on a thirsty Thursday for the Dog Pond. D-Bot, what have you seen from the defense of the Cleveland Browns? Obviously, a lot of conversation about Deshaun and the quarterback and how you're able to move. Defensively, are they still who the Cleveland Browns have always been? They've been good. They've been good. We always start in the trenches. and Mason Graham, who was number five overall pick, interior defensive lineman out of national champion Michigan, Wolverines at the time. He's been very disruptive in the middle of that defense. You paid Denzel Ward. You got Delpit still out there.

2:12:42They got good talent on defense. Now, when you miss Myles Garrett and his productions, a lot of people I'm seeing on the internet say, oh, maybe Myles was a problem in Cleveland on a defensive side. You get a win. And you get a win, and Deshaun, these other young players, Fanny Jr., Judkins, Boston, he looks like he's going to be a stud. Like, all these players around Deshaun, if he just doesn't go out there and trick it off, this Browns team has a chance. And I'm seeing a lot of people also giving some rub to Todd Monkhan as a potential coach of the year candidate.

2:13:09Pat McAfee:I like the way everybody's pronouncing his name. Am I pronouncing it wrong? Do we pronounce the Mon and the Ken? Because D-Bot's not the only one. There's been a lot of Monkens out there. Monkens. Yeah, I believe it's just Monkens. That's how it's supposed to be. But Orlovsky was really big on the Todd Monkhen. So that's how I heard it. I heard Orlovsky say it. Now everyone is. Okay. That's why the sheriff says it. Okay. Yesterday. Yeah, exactly.

2:13:33Darius Butler:And it's Todd Monken. Unless he starts losing, then it'll be Monken again. Yeah, I actually spell it M-O-N-K-E-N.

2:13:40Pat McAfee:Okay, so maybe Todd Monken. Yeah. Maybe Monken. Monken, maybe. I think he's the right guy for the job. Definitely. Backwards hat.

2:13:50Darius Butler:Yeah. Wants to be there.

2:13:51Pat McAfee:Dog pound. We need to show up barking on Thursday night. It's Pittsburgh Steelers number one division. What else do we guys need here? What else do we need? I appreciate where the dog pound is right now. Long season. Hopefully they continue to win. Hopefully the Browns ain't the Browns, like Todd said. But Thursday night with the Steelers coming to town, man, Cleveland gets a huge win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, especially with how the Steelers looked this past weekend. Cleveland's going to be upside down about the possibilities of not only this year, but maybe foreseeable future with Monk Hen as their head coach.

2:14:24Darius Butler:Browns are also 4-0 against the Steelers on Thursday night football, and I'm assuming they were not favorites in any of those games. It's kind of been a house of horror situation recently since Ben, who basically owned Cleveland, retired. They're getting theirs back since Ben retired. Yeah, it's definitely not a gimme on Thursday night.

2:14:44Pat McAfee:Cleveland Browns tweet out, too, we're excited to bring back our Rock and Roll Hall of Fame game for the third year in a row. With a very special Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee halftime performance, in-game features, and more. It's the prime time main event you won't want to miss.

2:15:01Darius Butler:Who's going in? Who's the performance? What if it's Brett Michaels? He's already in. He went in years ago, I'm sure. Wu-Tang. Isn't Wu-Tang going in? Oh, yeah. Wu-Tang. They're definitely going into A Hall of Fame. I'm not sure if it's rock and roll. Are they still smashing guitars up there?

2:15:14Pat McAfee:Before the game? Yeah. I remember the Miz with his little glasses on. Because he didn't want to bust that open. Maybe it's MGK. Is he going into the Hall of Fame? Definitely. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? We should probably be able to look that up. I assume that's piece of information that is findable on who's going into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. AJ probably knows, right, AJ? Who? I don't know. I'm curious as to who it could be. And what if they're not big Browns fans? Are they going to be playing there? Yeah, what if they just poll anyone who's already in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who's a Browns fan?

2:15:42Pat McAfee:No, it says inductee, right, doesn't it? If we could go back to this. I think they said inductee. With a very special Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee halftime performance. Maybe it's all the inductees. That'd be awesome. I don't know if this is. How many go in each year? I got Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Luther Vandross. They're definitely all right. Phil Collins and maybe Mon Ken on the axe. I can feel it coming in the air tonight. Yeah. Hold on. I went down to rabbit hole. That live. Phil Collins. His live performances. Oh, yeah. Some of him just. Him walking around. Don't get some drums. Did you guys' locker rooms play that all the time?

2:16:24And even in college and in the league, we always played that.

2:16:27Pat McAfee:College played it a lot. It wasn't our locker room playing. It was like the coaches and, like, administration and everybody kind of playing it. Like, hey, it's a big one tonight. Highlight tape.

2:16:38Darius Butler:Played twice. MC Light.

2:16:41Pat McAfee:Is performing at halftime?

2:16:42Darius Butler:Yes. No. Will serve as the guest DJ and perform during the first and second quarter.

2:16:47Pat McAfee:Who the hell is that? That's not first and second quarter. No, MC Light. We're talking about halftime right now.

2:16:51Darius Butler:MC Light, man.

2:16:52Pat McAfee:No, we're talking about halftime.

2:16:55Darius Butler:So it has a whole thing like a Metallica band member, I believe, is going out for the coin toss.

2:17:01Pat McAfee:Now we're talking.

2:17:03Darius Butler:Oh, no, sorry. Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols will join for the coin toss.

2:17:06Pat McAfee:Thank you. Metallica's doing halftime.

2:17:10Darius Butler:Kent Wells, longtime producer for Dolly Parton, will perform the national anthem. So it's a whole. Can we get to halftime? Yeah, we're looking. It's a surprise halftime. Allegedly, it's a secret. It's a surprise. I don't want Dolly Parton's manager singing. What do you mean? No, he's doing the anthem. They will announce it on game day. Who is performing at halftime?

2:17:30Pat McAfee:College game day?

2:17:31Darius Butler:What a tease for Munkin and the boys.

2:17:33Pat McAfee:That'll be Saturday. We'll be live in Iowa City. It'd be good to give people a heads up, though. Yeah, before the game. You're right. I don't know if we'll announce. That's crazy. We appreciate the honor.

2:17:43Darius Butler:So it's MC Light. Metallica's involved in some fashion. Steve Jones, the Sex Pistols, is involved in some fashion. The producer for Dolly's doing the national anthem, and then we'll find out about halftime. Yeah, but you think Lars Ulrich's going to be there? Maybe. Maybe he might be. This has got huge letdown written all over it.

2:18:06Pat McAfee:No, that would be old bronze. It would be. You're right. You're right. Mon Ken would not let this happen.

2:18:11Darius Butler:Maybe hologram Freddie Mercury I'm reading, potentially. Patrick C. Yeah. You didn't read that. No, I didn't. That would be sweet. It could be Oasis. They might bring the Gallagher lads over. Oasis is not performing at the halftime of a Browns guy. Not with the Man City Charges going off. They're not doing anything right now. Montana will be the one who saves me. Tommy Tuchel comes out. You know that song? Fucking right.

2:18:37Pat McAfee:And after... They might suck, huh? Third Eye Blind might play. The halftime show. Yeah, I think there's a good chance. Every name we've just said, I just don't see him agreeing to this. No, me neither. Nope, someone's gonna...

2:18:50Darius Butler:That would be Iron Maiden. Iron Maiden's the one.

2:18:52Pat McAfee:Okay, let me hear Iron Maiden's song. Really? I like just the rhythm of it so I can catch on to it. Nobody's got it. Nobody. Question marks everywhere.

2:19:03Darius Butler:MC Light, Cold Rock, A Party. They might have to just run with that one.

2:19:07Pat McAfee:I mean, maybe MC Light does just carry into halftime. I was doing a lot of reading.

2:19:11Darius Butler:Did we find – I know who the inductees are.

2:19:13Pat McAfee:Yes, please. Can you please give us the inductees?

2:19:15Darius Butler:So it's Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Oasis, Luther Vandrow, Wu-Tang. Luther Vandross. I call him Luther Vandrow. It's fucking Oasis, dude. It's going to go nuts. It's going to go hard as fuck. I know you're nervous. Sade, who I'm not familiar with. Sade. Sade, see? Not familiar with. And Joy Division. Okay, so. And? Did I miss one? Kid Cootie. Queen Latifah. Queen. Oh, but that's Influence Award. That's not for a performer.

2:19:47Pat McAfee:Yeah, but Queen Latifah is a part of the voice right now.

2:19:50Darius Butler:Yeah, this season of The Voice is bringing it.

2:19:53Pat McAfee:Yeah, of course it is. Riley Green's out there too, right?

2:19:56Darius Butler:Yes.

2:19:56Pat McAfee:And Kelly Clarkson.

2:19:58Darius Butler:It goes Kelly, Riley, Queen, and Adam in order in their chairs.

2:20:02Pat McAfee:Oh, and they're going to find it. Oh, they found it. They're going to find it. Good for them having a good time. So maybe Queen Latifah is going. Phil Collins hasn't been in yet? Phil Collins is just getting into the rock and roll. I wonder if Phil Collins is, do people turn that down? Phil Collins? Phil Collins? Like Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Because we're all wondering how Phil Collins hasn't gotten in yet. No, I think they complain about it, and then once they get inducted, they're pumped. But before they get inducted, they say it's garbage.

2:20:29Darius Butler:He was technically in as a member of Genesis, his original band. But as a solo act, he is now going in. Gotcha.

2:20:35Pat McAfee:So, bo-do-do-do-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo. Dun-dun. Maybe. Honestly, that could happen. That could happen. That song's Genesis?

2:20:42Darius Butler:No, that one was just Phil.

2:20:44Pat McAfee:That's him, yeah.

2:20:45Darius Butler:But he's drumming and singing. That one alone should have gotten it. The Steelers came out to that to win their Super Bowl, so that might backfire on the Browns if they pull that one up. But he might do Take Me. What is it, the one they play when they play football now? Take Me Home Tonight? That's Eddie Money, dude. That's Eddie Money. That's a great one. Eddie Money, too. Take me home. Take me home. Take me home. I think it's still called. Because I don't remember. That's not really a half-time banger. It's a studio, maybe?

2:21:10Pat McAfee:Phil Collins has not been put into the Hall of Fame yet as himself with Feel It coming in the air tonight. And we think he's just offering up his services for a halftime show. I can't wait to find out. Does he love ball? He lives in London. He's not fucking coming to Cleveland to do the halftime show. Not a chance. When's the ceremony for the induction? Who lives within four miles of the stadium that's going into the Hall of Fame? I think that might be who we're getting. MGK. He's not going in at all. He shouldn't. They might put him in for doing it. They're just putting Phil in. MGK ain't going in.

2:21:43Darius Butler:I don't think Phil has played live since like 2022. He's got a lot of help.

2:21:48Pat McAfee:That would be huge if he did that for a bronze Steelers AFC North clash on Thursday night football. Grew up a bronze fan. Maybe. We don't know. Maybe. O 'Phil? We don't know. Yeah. He loved the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame so much. He just fell in love with the team. So DJ Evie, I think, is who I saw at that wedding. Yeah. He going in? I used to think about having him just kind of. Do they have DJs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? I would imagine someone's got him. Avicii's got to be. DJ Diesel. Shaq should go in at some point. He just performed somewhere, right? Was he in Brazil?

2:22:23Darius Butler:New Orleans. New Orleans.

2:22:24Pat McAfee:New Orleans. How about Stephen A down in Brazil? Yeah. I mean, he did a whole Brazilian trip. J.J. Watt stood in piss.

2:22:31Darius Butler:Yeah, I kind of got to the bottom of the whole international thing when I saw Raj on the beach this weekend. He's just getting vacations paid for. That's why he's so big on the international schedule.

2:22:39Pat McAfee:Okay, so acting like one particular person is reaping the benefit of a country investing in a league is certainly not a bad thought, especially with what we've seen in the past with other sports organizations potentially getting incredible treatment. Nonetheless, that game in Brazil, especially with, I think DAZN has had football rights, NFL rights in Brazil for a long time. Italy, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Canada.

2:23:09Everywhere but here. Ireland, maybe.

2:23:11Pat McAfee:No, but these were the big countries. Remember, these were the big countries. They're like, hey, they like football a lot. Brazil was one of those countries, and I was very surprised by it. This is five, six years ago, whenever we learned it. Maybe seven years ago at this stage. Seven, eight years ago. Brazil was one of the countries that were like, they love football, they love ball down there, and at least it's growing. The game that they had down there, I think we can count that country as becoming an American football massive fan. And I like that we're taking the game international, but boy, that game back here in one of those stadiums, imagine that in Baltimore, what that would have looked like immediately afterwards, or that in Dallas as that thing all kind of collapses around.

2:23:53Pat McAfee:The scenes would have been, not that it wasn't in Rio, but the scenes in home stadiums would have been absolutely absurd as well. Seven second with a scramble, with a throw, where it causes the wide receivers, Zay Flowers, to jump, getting that done and then saying we knew it was a six second route. That's just fucking, the attention to detail is insane in the NFL. That's why when people always, you know, that played like high school football and very good at high school football, I'm not judging you. I love that you played football in high school and everything like that. But whenever these people who say, I used to play football, You never want to do that.

2:24:26Pat McAfee:It's like these assholes that are coaching and in the NFL spend every single second of their life trying to turn over some stone that could help them have a little bit of an advantage. Knowing that that route took exactly six seconds, that information doesn't just fall from the sky. You have to work that, rep that, research that. You have to do everything in that moment. And then you have to execute and call that in the moment. Not saying the people that don't play. I don't understand a lot of the shit that's happening in the NFL. and I was very lucky to be in the rooms where NFL people were. So it's just like the attention to detail, the amount of buy-in, the amount of execution at the highest level that has to happen just for this one play.

2:25:07Pat McAfee:And then, oh, yeah, you've got to knock home a 56-yard field goal. The snap to the kick has to be less than 1.3 seconds. The snapper has to snap it exactly. Lace is perfect. The holder has to get it down. And you need to strike that thing high enough that it doesn't get blocked. It has to stay true enough in another country with the turf that everybody was wondering if it's good or not. as you attack that ball. It's just like there's so much shit that has to happen just for that seven seconds to take place. And it feels like the Ravens have that figured out and executable here early, which makes me say, situationally, it feels like the Ravens have it figured out.

2:25:39Pat McAfee:And they certainly have enough talent. Is this the year for the Ravens with Jesse Menter in his first year as a head coach? I mean, it just might be. You talk about it. First year as a head coach. Declan Doyle, first year play caller. You obviously have a veteran quarterback with Lamar Jackson, so that helps. But you talked about it earlier. like you walk through these situations, but like that play, that situation doesn't actually happen maybe, I mean, probably twice a season, once or twice a season. I don't know if this has ever happened, this particular situation ever happened, even in like Lamar Jackson's career.

2:26:08You walk through and then once this happens on Sunday, all the teams the next week, they're going to play this in a meeting. They're going to play this in a different, hey, this is a situation. This is how you execute. This is how we would have executed it. Even with the kickoff, maybe the special teams unit is talking about that. So it just comes down to this. And who knows, this may be the difference in them winning the division or not or having home field in the playoffs. So all these games, all these situations matter. And it gets kind of monotonous throughout the year, throughout the season.

2:26:33And then, boom, it happens in one of the biggest games or biggest moments in the season for a player, a coach, whoever. But everybody's got to be on the same page in that situation. So that's unbelievable.

2:26:42Pat McAfee:Kickoff, timeout at 14 seconds. I mean, just so much went into football there in the final seconds. I assume the people in Rio thought to themselves, this is cinema. This is magic. And for a soccer stadium to have a field goal kick end it, love everything about it. Brady Kachuk talking about tonight's opening at 5 o 'clock as the Panthers and the Hurricanes kick off or tip off or drop the puck on the NHL season. MLB wild cards tonight. We got football stories in abundance and life is magical. D, but anything we missed that we should have hit today? I think we hit it all. We hit all the sports, WNBA, MLB, hockey, obviously football.

2:27:21Well, I do have a question, though, for the hockey lads back there. What exactly does Brady Tachuk bring to my squad? We know Chucky. Sandpaper, grit, jam, goals, greasy goals in front of the net, tips, deflections, big checks to turn the tide, big fight to get the boys going, leadership. Okay. Sounds like he'll fit right in.

2:27:41Darius Butler:Everything you want in a hockey play.

2:27:43Pat McAfee:Yeah, the Tachuk brothers are actual Bash brothers, you know, from Mighty Ducks? Yep. That's them. Bash bros? Yeah, that's how they, like, emulated.

2:27:50Darius Butler:You've seen Mighty Ducks, right?

2:27:51Pat McAfee:They started the playoffs last year. I've seen highlights. I've seen Clip. What, Mighty Ducks? Yeah. I've seen Clip. Really? How many of them are there?

2:27:58Darius Butler:You don't know about the Knuckle Puck? Three that you need to see. All three of them? Yeah. You have to see them. You don't know Adam Banks? There's no way they made three good movies. Wrong. They did. They did. You don't know who Emilio Esquivel is? I do know him. In my humble opinion? Yeah. He can make six good ones. It's D2. Yeah, but D3 is my personal favorite. But D1, you need to watch. Have to. Yeah, you got it. Yeah. But D2 is the best. Yes. You've never seen the Mighty Ducks? I'm sure I've seen it. I just don't recall any of the movies. They named the NHL franchise after the movie. That's not real.

2:28:30Yes, it is. A thousand percent is. With the logo.

2:28:33Darius Butler:Paul Correa. You're the best. Look it up.

2:28:37Pat McAfee:Need a writer? What are you doing? Are you typing right now just to find out?

2:28:40Darius Butler:What are you asking, Chad? I know your names. It came out after the movie.

2:28:44Pat McAfee:It certainly did. Same logo. Quack, quack, quack. Chat says, oh no, we can't trust these AIs. Rogue agents anyway. Still thinking. Was it getting slower? I didn't know it was getting slower. That means we're winning.

2:28:57Darius Butler:Do you have it turned up all the way? Is that why it's still thinking? Oh, shit.

2:29:01Pat McAfee:Yeah, just learned a little piece of information. Okay. Go on. Take it back. So, yeah, it's a pretty important film series, I would say. Hang on, 92? That was sick. You will enjoy it. Yeah, it was meant for. You guys watched this.

2:29:14Darius Butler:Since you didn't know that, New York football giants also named after the little giants from that. Okay. Ice box. Yeah. Fucking asshole.

2:29:24Pat McAfee:You watch little giants? Yeah, of course. What was the other one? The little rascals? Yep. Yeah. Great. Soapbox, baby. Whoopee. Mighty Ducks was like one UFC. How about. Maybe it's because hockey. How about if the teacher pops a test? I know I'm in a mess and my dog ate all my homework last night. Right. Low on my chair. She won't know that I'm there. If I can hand it in tomorrow, it'll be all right. It's all right because I'm saved by the blue. Yeah. AC Flater. Oh, yeah. Zach. Zach, AC. Okay. What was the? Screece. Screece. Screece Turtle. Speaking of. Screece has a checkered history now. Now, on that note, we'd like to say rest in peace.

2:30:07Pat McAfee:Yeah. Principal Building, thank you for your service to us at Bayside High School. Yep. and to all of our lives. He was a big wrestling fan. I seen him a couple times at WWE events, and I walk up, Mr. Belding, thank you for your service. I'll see you later. I would love to be at your school and just kept him moving. And I never talked to him without treating him as if he was Mr. Belding.

2:30:30Darius Butler:Sure, I respected that.

2:30:31Pat McAfee:So I hope he appreciated that. But I watched Saved by the Bell every morning. That was – Mario Lopez, that was an error up that tweet. Which tweet? The AI one. I don't think so. Hot dogs. there's always a lot different I do used to try to sit in my chair like that oh the backwards AC Slater poop dude I used to lean he's still shredded I used to lean on that garbage can so cool dude so cool I stayed away from the caffeine pills obviously have to so excited I watched him go to the academy I watched him go to college Yep. Fun fact. A.C. Slater got a full-rise scholarship to wrestle at the University of Iowa.

2:31:16All-American. He's so good, man. That's right. Beat Needick in the state championship.

2:31:20Pat McAfee:Yes, he did. Yes, he did. Rest in peace, Mr. Belding. Miss you, Mr. Belding. Dick Haskins. There it is. All right. Let's get out of here. Boys in the back, good work today. You guys did good. Good work, boys. Bruce and Mitt, very good job. Thank you. I think I have the yips on the zoom in at the start of the hour. I practice all morning, and I do it perfectly. And then the second we're live, I can't do it. So that's fun. Okay. Well, I will say probably only a few people see it. We all saw it, of course, because we got car sick watching it happen at the beginning. But I don't think a lot of people would notice that.

2:31:56Pat McAfee:You are much smoother than I think you're giving yourself credit for. So you should be proud of yourself, Bruce.

2:32:00Darius Butler:Thank you, Bruce.

2:32:02Pat McAfee:Way to go, Bruce. D, but I'm excited for tomorrow. Tomorrow's a big day. Huge day, man. You know who's on tomorrow? I do know who's on tomorrow. Should we say it? Because any time we say it, normally they don't end up on. True, but I don't think this person would do that. He wouldn't. How do you know it's a he?

2:32:18Darius Butler:Because I know who they're talking about. You don't know who? No, I do. But I just wanted to kind of create another layer of mystery. Just in case we don't say who. Correct.

2:32:28Pat McAfee:It's a pretty big name. It is.

2:32:30Darius Butler:Or she. Good move. Biggest name in your sport? Yeah. Hands down. Well. No debate? No debate. Definitely a debate.

2:32:42Pat McAfee:There's certainly some debates, but I don't think really debates. No. Like, push comes to shove, wins debate.

2:32:50Darius Butler:If it wasn't for injury, there'd be a big debate. I agree. Well said. I don't do this.

2:32:56Pat McAfee:Yeah, me neither. Reality. What happened? You want theory? Go to LinkedIn. You want reality? That's what we're living in. You're right. Amen. man.

2:33:06Darius Butler:Another guy beat cancer and multiple back injuries, but I don't know. Starting to give it away a little bit.

2:33:12Pat McAfee:Yeah.

2:33:12Darius Butler:Sounds like you're really...

2:33:13Pat McAfee:It sounds like you're starting to give it away

2:33:15Darius Butler:a little bit. That's another mystery, man.

2:33:18Pat McAfee:What do you mean, the mystery, man?

2:33:19Darius Butler:We had another layer of mystery we added there and now it's gone.

2:33:22Pat McAfee:Oh, so now you're wondering what we're doing with the mystery-ness. I thought we had another mystery person that maybe I had not known about. We could. Do we know who the celebrity guest picker is yet? Well, I see Pat Anger, Iowa Hawkeye legend. I'm a teammate. He's voted for Ty Schmidt to be a celebrity guest speaker. I bet Ty. Yeah. I'll put my name in the hat. People would be so, so, so mad. Really? On that note. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I think so. Mostly because it would be 100 % because of me that people would be mad. But on that note, what you've done for Iowa, I think, over the last 10 years is certainly notable.

2:34:02Pat McAfee:and I'm happy that Pat Anger was giving you the credit for that. I'm happy you got to hear that from Iowa. I don't know how often you do. I assume your family tells you and friends tell you. But Pat Anger being like, hey, Ty puts on for Iowa literally every day no matter what the hell happens to us. He lives with it publicly. So I appreciate you doing that. I can't wait to get back on campus with you on Friday. Yeah, that was very cool. That was very cool. And I make no bones about it because I am very proud to be an Iowan and of the University of Iowa an alum. I had some of the best times of my life there, and I don't get to go back very often because we are very busy.

2:34:36I can't remember, honestly, the last time I was on campus was when we went there for the women's tournament. But being back there around a game day when the Hawks are 4-0 and if they could somehow miraculously win on Saturday and then you can realistically start thinking about, okay, this team could go to the playoffs. Yeah, it's fucking incredible. I'm so excited.

2:34:58Pat McAfee:I-O-W-A-I. We'll just keep going. Yeah, after they score in the stadium, they'll fucking go around four or five times. Hold up the cards. Yeah, you got to beat the down on the field. Oh. No, they just. And then the other side goes. Oh. The cheerleaders have the big flags, and they'll just. Oh, it's an O flag? No, it's just like a Hawkeye flag. Oh, so we got no letters on flags. No, they just fucking know. People just know. Yeah, they just memorized how to spell it. Really? We just know. You're telling me there's no... Hey! No, you know exactly what you're supposed to do if the fucking Hawks punch one in.

2:35:44Pat McAfee:Okay, I'll be impressed to see that there's no... No, people will do it for you. Fucking I-O-W-A. They'll do it for you. Well, that looks a lot like... Oh. O-H-I-O. Yeah. I think that's kind of just a universal thing when you have to use your arms to spell out your state. And I and O. Yeah, exactly. And you have a couple of common consonants in there and vowels. It's going to happen. But, you know, hey, both Big Ten programs. So we're going boom. Yeah. Boom. Boom. Boom. There it is. You got it. All right, we got it. You got it.

2:36:17Darius Butler:Are you ready for it? I'm ready. Okay. Is hockey going to be there? Ready to watch. Huh? Is hockey going to be there? Turkey, cocksucker. Get it right or pay the price. What?

2:36:27Pat McAfee:Camp on the wall. That's amazing. Have you watched that show yet? No. I watched cool shit growing up. Power Rangers. Captain Planet. Fucking Spider-Man. Darkwing Duck. Those are cool. Rugrats? Not big Rugrats. I was with you for every one there. I mean, I'm not against Rugrats. Doug was cooler. No doubt. Darkwing Duck Who jumped and swam in the coins? That was fucking up Scrooge McDuck, bruh Okay, I thought that was for sure Darkwing Duck I would have said Definitely Darkwing Duck was the detective Okay, can I hear the tune? I couldn't pull the tune right now Darkwing Duck Darkwing Duck Is that what it is?

2:37:25Take it to you, bro.

2:37:26Pat McAfee:Who you gonna call? Something. Ghost. Darkwing. It's a good thing.

2:37:40Pat McAfee:Who you gonna call? Darkwing. Doug. That sounds a little more like... Oh. Boston makes me feel good. Who's that? Ghostbusters. Okay. That's the other side of that I did not know that I don't think I've ever made it to that part That's Inspector Gadget, right? Great show

2:38:05Darius Butler:Were you like a big Popeye, Looney Tunes guy? Yes Tom and Jerry? Ren and Stimpy? No, they were gross Don't whiz on the electric fence What's that other one? The coyote roadrunner Big time Simpsons? You watch Simpsons? Wasn't a big Simpsons guy.

2:38:26Pat McAfee:It's crazy how accurate they are about so many things. Yeah. We're still making them? I assume. Yeah. Still bringing it. Yeah, I assume we're still bringing it. My daughter's actually watching. The character's getting old. Family guy? Did you get into Family Guy? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Loved Family Guy. Yeah, Seth was really bringing it there for a while. Loved. South Park, we all watched. South Park. Yep. All right. Good time. Tonight, we watch hockey. Yep. And MLB baseball. Bingo. Heads up. Phillies are up 1-0 already in wildcard baseball. But Marisa Dubon just doubled. So, looks like the Braves got ducks on a pond with no outs in a second inning.

2:39:04Pat McAfee:All right. So, we will go watch that. We will also dive into the NHL. And tomorrow, we will be on the eve of the next weekend of football. Let's enjoy this life. Let's be thankful for it. And we can't thank all of you enough. Be a friend. Tell a friend. Something nice might change their life. if we're in this thing together. Team on me. Team on three. One, two, three. Team. Goodbye.
