In short

Jules Horn argues that modern life dysregulates the nervous system via constant distraction (phones/screens), fear-based culture, and “rat race” striving. He claims anxiety/depression are often maintained by chronic stress plus band-aid coping (medications, caffeine, ice baths, optimization) rather than addressing root causes. His “free practice” centers on daily regulation through slow nasal breathing and present-moment awareness, plus confronting “monsters” (stored emotions/trauma) in a calm state to dissolve them.

Guest background

Jules Horn is a male model turned wellness/trauma-and-breathwork teacher. He describes having pursued high achievement in modeling for over a decade (including trying to become the biggest male model in the world) and later shifting toward a “middle path” focused on presence, intuition, and service. He also mentions becoming a parent (child described as ~8 weeks old).

Key claims

Ego-driven striving prevents intuition and self-love; God/consciousness is linked to love and intuition. The body can be trained to calm via breath cadence (he cites ~5.5–6 breaths/min as moving out of fight-or-flight within ~90 seconds). Biohacks can backfire if you’re unregulated.

Notable examples

coffee as a “treat” not daily; cold plunging/caffeine cycles; a “rats running to elevators/train” video illustrating marketing-as-happiness; a lying-down exercise using a book on the belly button with 4-second inhale/6-second exhale for ~30 minutes daily.

0:00Stress makes your body burn 60 % more fuel just to stand still. Why do you think most people walk around more stressed? Because nobody's aware and we all know phones. So if you think back, let's say 100 years, the generation of our grandparents, maybe the generation before there wasn't any phone, there was no social media, there was no internet. so the screen itself is so much stress on the human body on the human psyche that everyone is dysregulated so when you're in that state you'll never feel present therefore your stress level just creeps up creeps up creeps up and then we're all in a rat race because it's the world we live in chase this thing do this thing make more money climb the next best ladder and from that place all of a sudden you're completely dysregulated and then if you look at the stats of anxiety, depression that we're going through right now, it's unbelievable.

0:58Nobody knows how to get out of it. Very few know. It's like, okay, which pill do I get for anxiety? Everyone is on so many medications. I see it all the time and say, yeah, it's a band-aid. But what's the root cause? So the root cause is really the distraction and then also the things we've been exposed to, whether it's EMF, whether it's poisoned in the food and so forth. All that causes so much stress on the human body that, of course, by standing still, we're already freaking out. Why do you think people don't know that they're as stressed as they are? Essentially, I feel with what I see on a daily basis with people I work with and so forth, it's always easy to take something.

1:41I take a medication, okay, then I feel better short-term. Nobody tells you that. And then the side effects that come with it are terrible. so it's more about people may know it because we all have an intuition right it's like we all know something about ourselves that we knowing for years but we don't really want to hear and listen to because it may be uncomfortable or you might may have to change something in your life that you really like for example i i always i love coffee i love the taste of coffee if i drink it every day i don't i don't feel good and i'm like okay what's what's more worth for me feeling good or the taste of coffee, you know.

2:20Not saying I never drink it, but it's more about, okay, I have it as a treat. I can't have it every day. It's just what it is. So I'm okay with that. But there's so many things, you know. Same with chunk food and all this stuff. Yeah, it tastes good. If I go to McDonald's every day, it doesn't make you feel good. So it's the same with stress. The daily habits, the daily rituals, the daily things you do, I always encourage people to look at what I'm doing on a daily basis, on a routinely daily base and what actually takes stress out of my stress cup and what adds stress to the stress cup. You know, if you look at cold plunging, for example, now it died off a little bit.

2:59I used to be addicted to it. I would go every day like seven to 10 minutes and then the rest of the day in the afternoon, I would crash. Then I would numb it with a lot of caffeine and I would just like push through the day. You can do that for a certain period of time till you can't anymore. so the body is really good in adapting with everything we're really good in adapting i mean you see people running there's this one guy who did 100 ironmans in a row right so yeah your body is able to adapt to that doesn't mean it's optimal so what's possible doesn't mean it's optimal so what i'm looking for especially now more than ever since i have a child it's like what can i do on a daily base that actually gives me energy reduces the stress therefore i have more energy to give to my family and other people.

3:45And that's like a conscious decision, you know, because as I said, it's easy to just go to the shortcut. Oh, I don't care how I feel after a coffee. I just love the taste, so I have to have it. I mean, it's the same with, you know, alcohol and anything else. So everything I focus on really, and I came up with this recently, even with breathing, anything is, I look at it almost like a 12-step program every single day. So today I'm doing the best I can to be the best version of myself. So I'm pretty sure if I do everything I can today, I feel good tomorrow. But if I try to figure out what's coming in two, three, four weeks, I'm missing out on being here right now.

4:25The thing that's coming to my mind is the things that produce the most amount of stress are the ones that take us away from being here. like the the times where we are you know constantly trying to achieve more strive for more do more optimize more all of these things that are kind of future planning of like wanting this wanting this wanting this and kind of taking us away from the moment they add more stress into our life and then instead of just recognizing we're adding more stress and going okay this is just for a season to help me unlock maybe more freedom it's more of a okay well this is my life let's just adapt to that by doing more things like having more caffeine or you know taking certain things that increase the amount you have deep sleep in your eight hours or whatever it is and just try and optimize optimize optimize and to the point where you just get to a point where your body is just on this constant panic mode would you say that there's an element of this like high achieving nature of people where they just try and instead of hit the stress face on they just do things that keep band-aiding it so that they can keep on pushing and optimizing and striving yeah 100 you know i'm i used to do that i used to like go hard to go home whether it's with training or anything i try every time i tried so hard i would i would hit a wall eventually with anything really like whether it's business whether it's like working out and all those things you know and in the end of the day i do believe there's a middle path to be walked and it's we just forgotten how to walk there because in the end of the day yeah you know there's a lot of people out there in order to do great things you have to really hustle hustle hustle but if you're constantly in a rat race first of all you're never really present and yeah you can record everything and you can look back and like oh that was a great time but are you really present and then it's a problem with all that what i found for myself and everyone i work with is really if you're not present you cannot listen to your intuition so if i believe that we all have a gift and i know we all have a gift you can't find that gift if you're never present because otherwise you all you do is running and listening to your ego and running after something that may not be even real i was doing this for over a decade i try to be the biggest male model in the world.

6:48I had a great start in my career, but that died off very quickly. And then I was holding onto the dream, you know? So it, as I said, like I did everything, I tried to push harder and harder. So what you just said, it's like, oh, okay. So I used to work out once a day. So if I want to be a really good model, maybe if I work out twice a day is even better, you know, and again, being a professional athlete is very different to what I'm talking about right now, because there's a time in the season where you have to push the envelope in order to become physically better but i'm talking about the average person right and like someone who okay i want to feel good i want to look good and i want to be present and having actually a fulfilled life looks different for everyone but for me what i found is really doing less and having more time and freedom with what i'm doing on a daily base has given me the biggest pleasure in life and the less the least amount of stress i ever experienced yeah i put on my instagram story the other day uh this video on youtube called happiness and it's just titled happiness and i'll we'll pop it up on the screen just now of what it is but it's essentially a this is before ai it was a it's like a four minute video basically demonstrating the rat race and it has all of these rats running down and then he's like in a rush and a rush and gets to a just a massive standstill of all these people trying to get into an elevator or a train and then they're like squishing their way out of the train and then they drive you know they get to work finally and then they go sit at a desk and there's all these other desks and then you know as they're leaving it's all the traffic and on the billboards it's got like all of the different marketing and it's all like labeled as happiness and it shows like the coca-cola thing and all of this.

8:33And then it's just like, everything is tricking you on what happiness is, but it's all just the marketing to get you to go more and then buy a bigger house and then do the thing again and again and again. I want you to unpack what you said just before around this perfect middle ground, realizing, and our mutual friend, Grayson, he was talking about like the intellect and the heart. And he was saying, the intellect's a great thing. It's a beautiful tool, but to not let it own you and have all your decisions be made by it. Talk to me about what you mean by finding a middle ground of not just being someone that sits on the couch and does nothing all day, has that energy of striving and wanting to grow and progress, but then equally being able to stay present and enjoy moments and not be constantly elsewhere.

9:24Yeah, so we're all humans, and what I believe is certainly everyone has an ego. Unless you find the death of the ego and you know that's probably when someone is completely enlightened the difference between that and a normal person myself for example is they just present 24 7 right so the buddha talked about the middle path walk the middle path jesus talked about it as well just be okay love everyone the way you love yourself you know be kind to everyone and i think there's a lot to learn about that and i try to put as much as i can onto onto my life on a daily base because yeah i have goals and I want to achieve certain things.

10:02I want to live a certain way, I live a certain lifestyle and so forth. And I don't think there's anything wrong with it because if you lose the desire to do more or achieve things, we just become really lazy. That's a downside of that. But also at the same time, what I always ask myself is like, am I doing that for the right reason? Am I creating something to help people or am I creating something just for the sake of it to make money? And for me, every time I get a sense for like, okay, this is to make money, I'm like, okay, I don't really want to do that. It's not the path I'm on anymore because I believe like we all here to serve each other.

10:45You know, Ram Dass always talked about we all just walk each other home. So with everything I do, I'm like, I want to be in service for other people, whatever that may be, you know, the stuff I'm teaching. product I may create and so forth. It has to make people feel something. So the feeling has to be beautiful, whether it brings them back into the present moment, find self-love and so forth. I always say that there's two voices within ourselves. One is the ego, the other one is God. That's what I believe. So the ego is yelling all day long and God is whispering, which is really just your intuition.

11:20So how often are you listening to the right voice? Because this one, the ego is always very loud it's like okay you buy a car you drive for two days and then the next one i now i need to get this one to feel really good right but meanwhile when you listen to the intuition then you realize that everything you really need is already within yourself that the kingdom of heaven is within which is you know god created us perfectly the way we are it's just we have forgotten how to tap into that i discovered something the perfect lunch combo that first bite of your favorite sub, followed by ice cold Pepsi.

11:56Add a couple of friends and now that's next level. Suddenly, the laughs get louder, the stories keep flowing, and the food tastes better. Because Pepsi brings out more flavor, more fun, and more of the moment. Food deserves Pepsi. Grab a Pepsi Zero Sugar today. Really interesting the other day, and it was the fact that most podcast listeners eventually have this one thought. What if I started my own show? In fact, there was a study that shows that one in every four podcast listeners want to start their own podcast. And that was me only a short few years ago, thinking about starting my own show.

12:32And fast forward to now, we went from zero to getting over 30 million views a month. My whole life has changed. I get to be in rooms with people I don't deserve to be in rooms with. And that's all thanks to podcasting. Podcasting changed my life so much. And I know everyone that wants to start a show, if they start it, it can change their life too, which is why I created PodPro. PodPro is the greatest podcast school in the world. And the reason I can say that with so much confidence is it's because it's the only school that has experts and podcasters leading the way. People that are walking the walk.

13:04If you are a podcaster or an aspiring podcaster that is looking to launch your show, then PodPro is for you. You can go to the link in the description or the show notes below, or go to thepodpro.com forward slash apply, and you can put in your details and my team will reach out to you directly. Once again, go to the link in the description or the show notes below or go to thepodpro.com forward slash apply. Let's get right back to the show. Can we unpack this a bit more? Can we unpack the ego and the God and the differences between the two? What did Grace say on the pod? I think he said something around either the ego or the devil is the king of the material world.

13:47and then God is the king of love or something. I've probably butchered it, but can we just unpack ego and God a bit more and talk about the differences and how you believe that they're opposites? Yeah, so when you look at the ego, if I just purely live by the ego, listen, run after that and be driven by that, you're never present. so you you rush through life because you literally just want to achieve the next thing make more money get more things we have a child he's eight weeks right now so if i keep living like this it's why a lot of people say enjoy it because it goes so fast and it's just said to my wife yesterday i'm like i don't think it's going that fast if you focus on really being present because a year is still a year you know it doesn't change anything so coming back to the ego it's really if you're driven by the things you want to achieve and really just listen to that it takes you away from the middle path and you get drifted away and then that's also a reason why people as we said in the beginning push through certain boundaries and limits that are actually really harmful for the mind body and spirit so if you you can call it devil it's a good i think it's a little bit of strong word because it's part of the human of the human being to have have an ego it's more about it's the same with like a parasite is a part of the healthy environment it's more about controlling it and making it part of the of life where it doesn't take over right so and then you have god and consciousness which is love and i believe there's a really great book and i always refer back to that it's like conversations with god and in that book that he talks about i truly believe that once i listened i read this book i was like this is exactly the way it is that's how i experience life is our soul only knows two emotions which is love and fear so if you look at the world we live in it's all driven by fear and worry and every every single person worries all the time anxiety depression is through the roof so why is that why is that because we don't feel the love we're wanting to feel on a soul level and a deep level so of course the ego takes over because then it becomes all about validation and the external environment i need more i need more and then i feel happy i need more then i feel the love i need to find the right person the right partner and then finally i feel loved you know i have to have a child and then finally i feel loved and what i realized in doing a lot of work on myself and also working with a lot of people is if you don't have self-love and you're not knowing how to give yourself that love it's like a pit with no bottom in it.

16:34So you keep pouring in, it's like just draining out. But in the end of the day it's when we know that God is a every single person is a reflection of God in human flesh. And I know that God knows everything and I also know that we know everything. So the whole concept with going to school and learning we have to learn, learn, learn to achieve more and more in my eyes it's not the right way to approach life because it's not about learning, it's about remembering we all know how to feel love because it's what our soul desires to begin with but fear arises when we don't feel it anymore and that can start early on as early as when you're born because if there's a traumatic birth and the mom is freaking out The child is under a lot of stress And then the mom is dysregulated The parents are dysregulated Then the child grows up with a disconnect On a soul level So it starts seeking, seeking, seeking I've done that for the better part of my entire life Just seeking, seeking, seeking But once you really start understanding and feeling it It's not so much of an intellectual thing It's more of a feeling in your body And a knowing that everything you need is already here The kingdom of heaven is within yourself.

17:54And the love you desire is already here. So everything you're looking for has been looking at you your entire life, and you just don't see it. So it's about the practice I practice every day, and the stuff I preach is really about taking off those blindfolders. It's like a horse in a race, right? Just look straight. And it's the same thing we're all operating. and everyone's like there's this goal i need to chase this and then i get to the goal and then you realize there's another mountain to be climbed and then it's never ending so what about taking that off so you've like more of a broader vision and then you realize eventually that everything you need is already here but also all the things you worry about it's just stuff that happens anyways so what if i what if i just let go of all that trauma from the past the false beliefs from the past that came with it and then trying to predict the future and just being present sitting here having conversation and like okay how does it make me feel probably much better maybe you don't have to cleanse your butt cheeks anymore so much maybe you let go of the char tension clenching your char grinding your teeth at night but it's all comes back down to creating awareness and presence and that comes through breath and awareness you know and i believe really the lowest hanging fruits and everything we we god gave us and we can do on a daily base to really regulate ourself is already there but nobody wants to do it because it's easy to buy a pill or get an injection or go get another treatment or do something you know so it just is all taking taking us further away from the path we're supposed to be walking on which is the middle path so the ego takes over and then the whispering from god is just so quiet that we eventually can't listen anymore.

19:45This is powerful. Yeah, so the ego is so loud that you can't hear God. It's like the ego is so loud and out there. And the thing that ran home with the Grayson chat, you were saying there's two emotions, love and fear. One is true, one is illusion. Yeah. And so there's so much illusion going on, fear-inducing things in our life that kind of tap into our ego maybe, and then it becomes so loud that we can't quite hear any of it. And then you said this thing on another podcast. You said the monster will eventually go away when you look at it in the face. Everything we experienced in the past, whether it's trauma, whether it's heartbreak, the things and emotions that really hurt us and we still carry within ourselves, whether it's loss of someone.

20:36Like my dad passed 2021. I carried a ton of grief within myself. and it's like we replaying all those experiences we had in the past heartbreaks trauma and so forth we bring it back into the present moment and replaying it in our mind so when you combine that with a shallow breath and a dysregulated nervous system which most people have then it's your physical body and your subconscious mind perceives it as it's happening right now so So that's what I mean with the monster, right? So the monster are those emotions and those feelings and those experiences. So it sits across of your table, you're having a beautiful meal, and it's always stealing your food and makes you really angry.

21:20So eventually you freak out, you have a lot of fear and anger, resentment and rage within yourself, and you don't know why. So it's really just till you look that monster, whatever that emotion may be or trauma or experience, in the eyes in a calm state, in a calm present state. And like why are you still here And then the monster has no answer And it's going to disappear So you know everyone is talking about Waking up Growing up spiritually And just becoming more and more aware But nobody wants to clean up And that's something I learned from One of the greatest teachers out there I believe greatest minds Still alive Ken Wilber He talks about this Very much in depth In order to grow up and wake up You have to clean up So if you don't clean up the past in your mind, but also in your physical body, so meaning the body holds a score, you have trauma stored in any places in your body, so you have to go into those places.

22:19You know, the breath work I did with you guys at the practice in the beginning, when you go into your root chakra, into that area where the perineum is, and you focus on it and really create space and feel that space, and just go in and like what's coming up when I feel that maybe certain unworthiness, maybe there's something, a rejection, you go back into that. And once you bring it into the present moment in a calm state, you realize that's not a threat anymore. So you can let go of that. So it's almost like you free yourself over and over until you're just purely naked and you're like, wow, that's a great life.

22:56So is that what you mean by looking at it in the face? Yeah. Is hitting on the feeling and the presence of the fear or whatever it is, the monster in this example, hitting that in the face of going, okay, I'm going to explore this. I'm actually going to go there. I'm not going to put the blinders on. I'm going to go there. Is that what you're meaning by hitting it in the face? Exactly, 100%. And it's sort of, you know, you hear people say that all the time, oh, I had a psychedelic experience, whichever that may have been. I got rid of so much trauma. Yeah, because you're in a space, you don't think about anything but what you're feeling.

23:36So you're actually the first time present and feeling something. And then you realize, you go back into memories in that heightened state and you realize it's not there anymore. It's not present right now. I'm not getting abused. I'm not getting heartbroken right here, right now. So why am I worrying about this so much all the time? And why does it create this emotion? So when you do that in a sober state, and that's really just practice, But it's practice that may hurt at times. Because if you go back, you know, I have this, when my parents got divorced, I had a tremendous heartbreak, my mom leaving us.

24:09And it took me some time to dig in, release, go a little bit deeper, hurts a little bit more. And it's just like practice and awareness and be willing to do it on yourself. Because again, I don't have any problem with any psychedelics or anything like this. But I don't believe it's intended to be done on a regular base just to free yourself. Because when we create awareness and a calm-minded body, you can do it all in the present moment. And the more you become aware of it, the easier it becomes. It's like learning a language, right? So if you focus on your slow, deep breathing, creating awareness around your body, chances you're feeling the present moment, you're able to listen to intuition, are pretty high.

24:52so then you just explore that okay how much do i have to practice on a daily base till i can speak that language of awareness self-love purely fluent and that may take some time depending where your starting point is you know how old you are and how much baggage you have on yourself but it doesn't if it if it took me 30 years to realize that it's not going to take me 30 years to unpack all that but it take me a few months maybe maybe a few years and then it's just about eventually it's just about doing maintenance like polishing the mirror right so you you scrape off all this dirt all this nasty stuff from your mirror eventually can see yourself a little bit better then you you clean more and more all the emotions release stuff then you see yourself completely but if you put that mirror in the corner and you never clean it anymore there's going to be dust there's going to be some birds flying by and shitting on that which is just more and more emotions again so you have to work through that and realizing eventually it's like okay if i'm as much present as i can in the present moment i don't need a mirror to begin with because it's all just here right now so the illusion of the future or the past is what's holding me back to begin with and then so if i'm here right now doing the best i can in this present moment this next minute if i breathe slow and deep create awareness around my body i can promise you in two minutes i feel better so then it's like stacking right it's what i said with the 12-step program take it one day at a time and if it's painful and if it's not good one day that's okay because suffering is part of life but we have to be willing to feel that and go through it in order to come back onto the mountaintop from that valley you know and i believe really with like god creates conditions in order to make us understand how it is without them because if it's always sunshine and rainbows every single day there's no trauma, there's no pain, there's no emotions that holding us back or that hurting, how are we supposed to know how it feels without all of that pain?

26:54We don't know. We're just taking it for granted once again, you know? And that's how our human, I believe if you look at how humans operate, it's easy to take it for granted. So I work a lot with the breath and emotions and trauma and so with to this day every single person i've met i worked with i spoke to even though if they yoga teacher or they know on a practical level how to breathe most people don't actually do it so they don't because it's your soul my soul keeps us breathing keeps the body breathing because it keeps us alive and coming back to what i said in the beginning what's possible doesn't mean it's optimal.

27:34Yeah, I can train my body to take 18 to 20 breaths per minute, very shallow, very fast. You do this for a certain period of time, eventually your body is falling apart because you're constantly running away from a tiger and in the worst case, two tigers. So if I'm completely dysregulated because of my breath, then the first thing that happens on the external environment, whether it's heartbreak, whether it's the job you're in and your boss tells you something, It feels like the world is falling apart. And I experienced it many times in my life. When my dad passed away in 2021, I was like, I felt the world is falling apart because I was so dysregulated.

28:14So I can go around all that pain and this falling apart when I just practice slowly breathing. So not just am I more present and am I more in the present moment and aware when I do that, but I also expand my life span. So everyone's talking about longevity, biohacking, what can I do to live a longer life, taking a million pills like Brian Johnson, doing all the things, and nobody's looking at the cadence of your breath. So if I know that, for example, one of those large turtles, they lived to 250, 300 years, yeah, the average cadence per minute of breath is like three to four. so the average human is 15 to 18 so okay if i know that how about if i cut my cadence of breath as a human into two and go down to maybe eight if you do that for a period of time your life is going to change completely first and foremost and if you slow down even further like there's something called the perfect breath which we did in the beginning it's a four second inhale through the nose six second exhale comes down to six breath per minute and it's clinically proven that between 5.5 to 6 breaths per minute, your nervous system gets out of fight or flight and the parasympathetic within 90 seconds.

29:37So if I get obsessed with that healthy obsession with slow deep breathing, and every time I feel a little bit off, I come back to that, all of a sudden my entire day is going to be different. Because it's not just sitting down, meditating, however someone's rituals are. Maybe you do 30 minutes a day. Yeah, you can do that for 30 minutes, But if the rest of the 24 hours you're still hyperventilating all the time, it's not going to move the needle much. So it's about making your practice a lifestyle, especially with the breathing. And it's the lowest hanging fruit, yet everyone is picking up steps over$100 bills to pick up a penny.

30:16Like, oh, I just got a$150 ,000 hyperbaric chamber. If I'm in there for an hour or two, I feel amazing. But if I get two hours after I'm out of that, I feel the same that I did before. so why am I not just focusing on what we already have hence like you know what I said with the kingdom of heaven is within so I'm fascinated because obviously you're talking about the work you do with unpacking those monsters and the traumas and all of the the different things that are away from the present moment then more so just baggage that we have is the prerequisite to even attack that to face the monsters to improve your breath and everything actually being present like you need to be able to access presence to be able to look at it in the face to be able to recognize that your breathing's off to be able to consciously work on slowing down your breath all these things we've been discussing is the prerequisite allowing yourself to be here and nowhere else so you have to allow yourself consciously to be willing to do that so allow yourself to slow down that's the first thing but then really it comes really down to the breath immediately.

31:27Because if I have a shallow breath and I do anything, my physical body, my subconscious is still in fight or flight mode in my nervous system. So if I do any practice, you can do anything that's supposed to be calming. If I have a shallow breath and I do something I've never done on a physical level, whatever that may be, if someone has a shallow breath and you go to a yoga class you've never done yoga before, that yoga class will stress you out more than anything you've done before. Because it's something unknown and you're already running away from a tiger. So you're just adding another tiger to it.

32:01So it's like, yeah. And then you get out of yoga class and you're like, oh my God, I feel so much better. Yeah, because you just stopped something that stresses you out even more. And then you're like, oh, I'm going to go into an ice bath now to recover. Exactly. It's the same thing. You know, it all adds to that stress cup. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with yoga by any means. I enjoy doing yoga, but it's more about what's my baseline and where am I coming from? The most happens when you do nothing. The most experience you get is when you're actually really just slowing down your breath.

32:33And for the majority of people, it's really just by laying down. There's a really amazing exercise, which is so simple that it's actually a joke. You lay down on an even surface, whether it's your couch, a yoga mat, or your bed. No pillow underneath your head. And you just place a book on your belly button because the body works really well with feedback. so if you take if you breathe in and out through the nose your tongue placement and the roof of your mouth is sliding behind the front teeth you don't clench your jaw so the mouth is closed, teeth aren't touching and you start breathing in for 4 seconds through the nose on an inhale you lift that book on an exhale for 6 seconds you bring the book down so you do that for 30 minutes takes about 8 or 10 hours on the average person to reprogram your body's ability to understanding that it actually the breathing itself and life itself is not a threat anymore.

33:26So you do that for 30 minutes a day, it takes you 20 days in order to get to that place. But not just are you doing those 30 minutes in the morning or whenever that may be, you're also already becoming more aware of your breathing throughout the day because it's just what it is. 30 minutes, you create pure awareness on your breathing function and the mechanics of your breathing. Where am I breathing? Where's my breath going to? How does it make me feel? All of a sudden, I don't clench my jaw anymore and I'm completely relaxed. So when you do that, that's the lowest hanging fruit. All of a sudden, you sit in the car, you focus on your breath.

34:00You have a conversation, you focus on your breath. You have a meeting you're normally nervous for. You breathe five minutes ahead of time. You're not nervous anymore. And that's all just, that's really, the start is like being willing to allow yourself to do nothing and then being willing to allow yourself to practice something that actually has the most return of investment than anything in the world will ever have. Because the breath will guide you into the present moment and the breath is guiding you back home, which is the present moment. And in that place, you'll feel everything. And that's why a lot of people don't want to go there.

34:39Because if I have a backpack with 500 pounds of emotions on myself that already affected my physical body, actually digging into it and looking at it already makes me sick so how am i supposed to ever take that off you know if i take it off all this shit comes out and i have to feel it again but that's really where the work is but we have to be willing to do that and allowing ourselves to feel that's really what it is because nobody is allowing themselves to feel anymore everyone wants to feel i want to feel better i want to feel love i want to feel whole complete and enough Yeah, everyone wants to do that, but nobody wants to feel what's holding them back to begin with.

35:19Yeah. I think one of the biggest unlocks you've made me realize from the last time we caught up and even just today is ice baths aren't bad. Fast Wim Hof breathing is not bad, but it is very bad when you're not regulated. Yeah, exactly. And everyone's not regulated. and so and so the the piece that's just such a big unlock is if you've got a regulated nervous system and you're not in fight or flight and you're calm it's not necessarily that bad to be doing all those things but if you're just extremely unregulated and then you do those things it's just like caffeine crashes when your adenosine's still in your system and it stores it and then you get to the afternoon, the caffeine's wearing off and you get tired.

36:09It's the same thing. It's your body is still freaking out and you do it. You get a little boost. You get energized from your ice bath first thing in the morning. This was me for years, by the way. And I loved it. Biggest fan. I was just like, yeah, I would wake up and I would set a timer. I had to be, I would set a four minute timer from the moment my alarm went off in the morning. So buzz, alarm off, four minute timer. I had a minute to get down and be in the ice bath for my three minutes. Wow. I did that every morning. Yeah. And I loved it. I loved it. But then again, caffeine consumption was through the roof and it was just like a cycle.

36:47And I think the big unlock for me is realizing that regulating yourself and controlling your breath is the key before doing any of these biohacks before doing any of these things is as you said just before people are uh jumping over a million to get the dollar or whatever it was you the reference you're talking about you're missing the part that's free that's always been here that's always going to be here wherever you are you're missing that in pursuit of these gadgets that are probably just heavily marketed to make you feel like you can optimize your life more so that you can achieve more so that you can buy more of these gadgets and then you can do more and more and more and more until you realize you just need to check back in with here and act on that.

37:37100%. I mean, that's what you said with this four-minute video you posted. Everything is external and we live in a world that's run on the external environment. Do more, get more, have more, and then you're happy or then you feel loved and complete. But what about returning it all inward all of a sudden? Hyper-focus on your internal environment, how you're feeling, how you're breathing. And then from that place, when you take care of the inside, the external will automatically appear because you perceive life differently. If I'm present, I don't get freaked out anymore by things. I don't worry anymore.

38:12If I truly feel everything I want to feel and I know God, then you don't have to worry. So, you know, I'm not someone who studies the Bible But I know that 365 times in the Bible Do not worry, don't be afraid So there's 365 days in the year So it's for every single day of the year And yet we live in a world that's driven by worry and fear So, because we all hyper-focus on the external environment We don't allow ourselves to feel anymore Therefore, of course we're afraid and we worry all the time and that drives cortisol through the roof and adrenaline and again you know oh now the the baseline is already halfway up to this uh empire state building where my nervous system is so in order to do feel anything really and i was in my entire life like in order to feel anything i have to add something to it so run run more adrenaline so what can i do to feel that and i never forget that i the first time i was in a cold crunch i was immediately addicted to it because that feels amazing, you know?

39:17So yeah, because it brings you from halfway Empire State Building height to three-quarter up there, and then you get out, and I'm like, I'm not hungry at all because you're running on so much adrenaline. You extend the fasting, you have more caffeine, and then eventually you'll be at the peak of Empire State Building, and I'm like, okay, now it gets a little bit scary, so you crash. But not all the way down, just halfway down, because you don't know how to regulate yourself. So you burn out, and then with burnouts, what I experience is always it's less a physical aspect it's a mental thing that drove me crazy because i was like why am i feeling this way i feel like shit i feel like i can't do anything i'm depressed i have anxiety so the trying to figure it out in our mind drives us even more crazy and creates more stress so it all can be really prevented and not having to undergo all that by just really practicing slow deep breathing and awareness so this it's a it's about awareness and allowance and then practice because without awareness i don't know what to do oh maybe i breathe shallow maybe not i have no idea but when you create awareness around it within seconds you can figure out where your breath goes you know whether it's stuck in upper chest whether you breathe slow and deep most of the time it's stuck somewhere upper chest or maybe to your to your solar plexus and then you don't know how to breathe low anymore in the worst case a lot of people they have an inverted breath through trauma and then being told like to suck the belly in so they would breathe in and i seen that with like kids i work with kids too i'm like take an inhale they're breathing in they suck the belly in everything upper chest so they compress the entire diaphragm by every inhale and exhale they just let go a little bit so it becomes tighter and tighter and then the body becomes really tight and eventually you live in a body that feels like a tight suit and it all can just be opened up again by first and foremost slow slow deep breathing and getting rid of that predator that's chasing you your entire life knowing eventually you realize there hasn't has never been a predator to begin with it's all in imagination and takes us away from the truth which is love and awareness so when you do that the stronger the more you focus on that the stronger that love and that awareness growth grows and all of a sudden you realize wait i have everything i need is really right here right now and then from that place you can like okay now i want to do this now i want to do that but the intention is different because you're doing things not to make you feel something you're doing things out of joy and to help other people most of the time you know you created a podcast to educate people make people feel something and create awareness around it that comes from a pure heart you know i know we don't know each other that well but i know you well enough and i met you a few times and i can tell that your heart is at the right place and from that you everything you do in your life will always come back a hundredfold because as soon as we live in service for other people which we all supposed to be doing and not purely running from the ego, operating really from the heart.

42:30When you do that, it sounds corny, but it's really the way to live your life because you're not getting upset if something doesn't work out the way it's supposed to because you know there's a lesson to be learned in anything. I'm coming from a pure heart. I want to do that in order to help other people and to fulfill my existence in this lifetime a little bit more. Yeah, if you have to do a detour because life is just what it is, that's fine too. what can i learn from that you know so all those things is the awareness really created an amazing teacher for myself where i'm like everything that happens in my life on a daily base i can learn something from it even if it's painful there's a teacher behind everything but we have to be willing to feel that and to create that awareness around ourselves yeah i i feel this piece is i really want to reign this piece home around how if you're operating in a place of service and a place of giving it's quite a freeing nature that kind of gives off abundance as well in a sense because when you're feeling like you need to take take take take take you're also feeling like it's like scarce and i need to make it most of every every last bit and um i say it a bit and I've heard you say it on podcasts as well, sort of along the lines of how the less you chase, the more you receive.

43:57And when you feel like you need something, you kind of give off a disgusting smell. Yeah. What are your thoughts on that? Well, it's like, you know, when I, for 10 years, I tried to, as I said, try to chase something in the modeling world without me knowing that the energy I put out was extremely desperate. And it can do anything right in your mind, but you still have the desperate energy around it. So that desperation pushes everything away. So an analogy I really like is, if you go to the beach or you have a bucket of rice, right? If you grab the rice or the sand and try to hold on to it really hard, how much sand can you hold in your hand?

44:42Nothing. so if you go in very gentle and just make a like a shuffle with your hand you can pour out it like the entire hand is full of sand or full of rice but you're not doing that with force forces with gentleness right so and it's like with everything in life i've been practicing a lot of you know standing meditation and tai chi sort of movement and qigong a little bit all that is very subtle you're using your body but there's no force anything you do is like if i hold my hands out my muscles are not super engaged everything is soft so we haven't we have forgotten how to actually practice a soft part of ourselves so yin and yang you know everyone is in the yang side which is a masculine go go go do more more more don't be a pussy you know go harder go home all those things but we neglect the left side which is the feminine side and the soft part so and then we think in order to achieve more we have to do more but it's exactly what you said like if you come back to the center where your heart is and you really operate from the center you realize that the left side the soft part is as necessary as the right side the hard part and then you don't have to flip-flop anymore eventually you live your life in alignment where there's softness subtleness but also there's a force and that force is driving you forward in life it's not holding your back and it's not pushing things away it opens the right door with like a gentleness you have to have that force but when you try to break through a door with a sledgehammer it's not going to work long term you know it's the same with a human body there's a lot of things we can do try to force open stretching our ourself open you know if you force stretch yourself you hurt yourself right the same thing so but what about if i'm just taking enough force and right on that wave of subtleness taking my breath and awareness and listening to my body you know exactly how far you can go to open your body and it takes time you know my hips are still tight but every day i do some practices to and breathe into that and every day it gets a little bit better but if i try to force open them i really injure myself it's the same thing and And with life in general, it's like really we can't forget the feminine part of life.

47:12And it sounds, again, all those things sound so corny. And I'm really glad I can talk to a guy like yourself about it. Because most of my audience is really female. Yet more and more men coming and listen to what I have to say. But why is it attracting more female, more women in general? is because they already, most of them know their intuition first and foremost for a woman is stronger than for men. And they already have this calling within them. It's a knowing. I know that's actually true. And I'm not saying I have it figured out, but one thing I can tell you, I feel a million times better since I started doing all this stuff and operating from that middle ground.

47:56And yes, do I have days where I get drifted off? Yeah, of course I have, you know. but I know and I have tools to bring myself back to center as fast as I can and then all of a sudden it's like all this shit I was worrying about my entire life whether it's I grew up there was pretty poor my dad was a butcher my mom worked in a bakery four kids my dad my dad made 1800 euros I remember that my mom didn't work much part-time so there's no money zero so there was a scarcity around money and I had to break that for myself you know and now I'm like it's all just energy anyways so money if I try to chase it you push it away and there's something I learned from a mentor of mine it's I want to share this really quick around money because people always think oh if I have x amount of money in my bank then I'm really happy first of all you you will hit certain levels and then all of a sudden you need more and more and more it's never enough But also when I realized that What I learned from this From my friend is Money can turn into an entity So money is energy Right So it's just energy Yeah it's paper whatever It's a number on your phone When you open your bank app But it's just energy It allows you to do certain things So if you again come from a place With an open heart And come from your heart And you use that money To actually create a good for other people it's gonna get you very far in life and you also what you said is you create an infinite amount of wealth you can create that if you want to but the problem is when people become greedy and start hoarding it that money whatever how many however much money that may be it's gonna turn into an entity and makes you really miserable and can kill you in the end that's why a lot of people who have extreme amount of wealth they're not happy and they don't know why They can buy anything, but it doesn't mean anything anymore So that, you know, we all have that Oh, you know, I really want to buy that car Buy that watch, whatever that may be And that driver is a healthy driver And it's also excitement, right?

50:08You get excited And then when you live from the heart You get it It's not for validation It's because it makes you feel good I love that I deserve that I earned it And I have that And it's not your identity It's just something you have so but when i do when i come from a place it's like i only have to make money in order to get this bigger house so other people see that the root for that is really a lack of self-love and the lack of love to begin with so there's a void we try to fill with money or with materialistic things the same with love you can't buy love either and then you know all that you dump into a hole and the holes never get gets never full it just drains out so that's really Again coming back to the lowest hanging fruit It's like practice awareness and presence And no matter what situation Someone is right now It's exactly the way it's supposed to be I see people who go through the trenches And I'm telling them The second you sit down Lay down And you focus on that present moment The answers are already there And you will hear them And you will understand why it has to be that way Because you can't run away from it For your entire life I see people all the time, they're in the 60s, they had a great successful life, all of a sudden, any disease comes, Parkinson's, cancer, whatever that may be.

51:31Yeah, why is that? Because you haven't listened to your body and your mind, your intuition beforehand. It's not that it comes out of the blue. Like those, if something greater, a greater disease appears all of a sudden, it's just, okay, your body and your spirit and your soul is like, I'm going to start yelling. And now they have to listen. And it's going to be painful. And I hope they finally listen. That's really what it is. Because every suppressed emotion, every suppressed trauma that we're not wanting to face, not wanting to feel, is going to reflect itself in the physical body eventually.

52:10I had, my parents, as I said, got divorced when I was 18. I pushed it all away. I was drinking a lot. I was like, just running away from everything emotionally. and I didn't know better so I can't even blame myself I can't go back and have resentment against myself because I didn't have the tools nor the awareness around it but what I know is when I was 18 by the time 19 rolled around I had chronic lower back pain and I would go to the gym every three months I tried to break my PR and deadlift lower back would crash I'm out of commission for another 3-4 weeks in pain for 4 days and this is a constant cycle and eventually I'm like what am I doing?

52:50And that's really led me down to the road I'm doing now because three years ago, I was running on the beach two and a half hours, running away from everything, trying to get validated for the time I'm running, for how much I'm running. And I woke up the next day, couldn't walk. My lower back was completely shot. And in that moment, one of those really lowest points in my life on a physical and emotional level, I'm like, if I don't change, I'm just going to end up like my dad and his entire side of the family. my dad he was there were seven kids my dad was the youngest he passed at age of 69 he had a he had rheumatoid arthritis and then he got a blood clot in his in his um neck just passed overnight but all his six siblings they died of cancer stroke anything all diseases your name they had they'd all passed and i know look back i'm like i'm german they all grew up very very much like old school Germany this is the way don't feel anything what do you mean emotions I my parents couldn't say I love you when I was growing up they never told me that said that to me nor my sisters it's just something that wasn't familiar to them because they never were told that they never were taught how to feel and how to listen so you grow up with this where your entire not just the physical body is bracing but also your emotional body is really suffering and holding it in holding it in holding it in by the age of 30 30 35 my mom and my dad both got parts of the thyroid removed because they had thyroid issues most of it has has to do with swallowing your truth don't speak what do you want to say swallowing unspoken words swallowing swallowing swallowing and most likely some sort of deficiency in the diet but the emotion trigger that okay my The thyroid is off.

54:39How am I speaking to myself? How am I speaking to other people? Am I actually expressing myself? Am I allowing myself to be honest with myself first and then with other people? Or am I just a people pleaser and say everything everyone wants to hear? That was me my entire life, you know. And all of a sudden you realize it's like I have nothing to prove. The best thing in life, the best position you can be in is if you really don't care what other people think. It's like I can do whatever the heck I want. If I sit on the couch all day and do nothing, that's what I want to do today. And if I want to chase something tomorrow, then I do that.

55:17But the most important thing is really figuring out your foundation. It's what you said. Yeah, ice bath is not bad. Wim Hof breathing is not bad. There's a time and place for everything. But when you're not in the present moment, you don't know how to regulate yourself. You're only operating from the ego. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I think the piece that you just said during that was around how a lot of it stems from an inability to love yourself, like a self-love problem. You were still talking about all of the things we don't feel accepted, in a sense. Like, do you think like a lot of these stuff, a lot of these traumas do come from not feeling maybe like the love for yourself?

56:04So you need to change. Do you feel like there's like an element of, you know, like even just all of the optimization tactics, the striving, the constantly wanting more. It's always this thing of like, I'm not okay now. So I need to get to a new place where I will be okay. Yeah, definitely. So it all stems from a place of when you don't feel self-love, when you don't have any self-love, you get into a red race where it's never enough. Because again, it's like you live for the external environment, trying to fill a void that's within yourself. And it doesn't work. It just doesn't work. Whether it's money, love, anything external is never going to fulfill that.

56:49You know, for example, the simplest thing is if you don't have true self-love, you want to find a partner because you want to get loved from someone else. But that love from the other person will never fill that void that you have within yourself. And the worst part of all that is the energy we put out there with that seeking for love and validation, but more so for the seeking of love, you attract a person, a partner who does the same thing. So that person has no self-love and is looking for love on the outside So you two match. And then you try to get love from a person who doesn't even know how to cultivate love from themselves.

57:33And, you know, we all know the honeymoon phase is about six months. And after that, all this stuff comes up. Arguments, trauma, childhood trauma, trauma with the parents and so forth. And then, yeah, you can stay together, but there's a lot of arguing. And eventually I've seen it over and over. where it's like you start seeking help with consolation and all that stuff, like couples therapy and all that stuff. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it. But what's the root cause of all that fighting and all that arguing? The root cause is that those two little children in each person, the little boy and the little girl, they don't feel loved.

58:16So they're looking at the other person and screaming all day long. and there's screaming only you can hear but you're not listening and you expect the other person to listen and it's not working so the simplest thing to really remove all arguing all trauma all stress from your relationship is by looking yourself in the mirror first it's like okay am i actually loving myself or am i doing things on a daily base that fill my cup and that actually open the ears for this little boy inside of myself and that's a question i ask myself and then all of a sudden when i started practicing all the things i just said like awareness and breathing and you know speaking positive about myself and prayer and so forth all of a sudden i noticed a shift within myself like a sense of calmness that i've never really had and then my wife back then we weren't married she was like within weeks literally like within three four weeks she was like you changed so much what happened it's like i know i just feel really happy and calm that's you know that's what happens so okay the thing you said which i just want to repeat you said people are looking in the external world to solve an internal void yeah so and then and then and then on top of that the screaming at you only you can hear and then you're looking in the external world another person another thing another career another this but all of those things can't hear the screaming because the screaming is inside your own head and body and no one else can actually hear it or nothing else can actually hear it so the only way to solve the internal void is by looking at the monster in the face and seeing what it says yeah and then with that you know it's pretty profounded well it's it's simple but it's so simple but it's yeah i like sometimes i'm like i ask myself am i like this stuff is also simple and it's been around it's not that i invented anything no really honest i'm not reinventing the wheel by any means it's like it's like the basic stuff if you take care of the basic stuff you will have the greatest life ever and you will go very far but nobody wants to do the basic stuff and you know why?

1:00:44because it's already there like I can't pay someone to breathe for me oh I can't hire a coach 24-7 who's sitting on my shoulder and always reminds you Jules, take a slow deep breath you can't do that you have to do it yourself so with AI and everything you know there's a lot of positive in that but we forget how to do things on our own, the basic stuff. It's like, okay, I actually have to cultivate the DIY mindset again. I'm like, okay, only I can do that. Only I can feel that. Only I can let go of that. Only I can unpack that. And only I can give myself that love that I actually always needed.

1:01:25So maybe, okay, this is interesting. we know the things that we need to do to regulate ourselves to calm ourselves down to be mindful for the most part are free we can breathe we can go touch some grass we can walk we can check in with ourselves lie in a bed put a book on our on our belly button and breathe but all of those things don't serve the ego, which we want as well. And we like feel that pull of, well, if I pay this person or I buy this thing, I'm going to feel good because I'm investing because your worth is tied to the progress in business and money and all of the other external things.

1:02:10I'm investing into my wellbeing. It's the one walking and breathing and stuff. It's not, we can't, our monkey brains can't justify the fact that that's actually putting our attention and our energy and our investment and our capital and our resources into bettering ourself. So because it doesn't like trick that part in us, the ego part that wants us to prove to ourselves that we are doing what's right for us and doing all these things to better ourselves, because it doesn't do that, we, belittle it and go okay so i need to do all of these things yes because it's not cool you know i mean trust me i i get this question sometimes i'm around people so when it comes to physically so what are you training for i'm like i'm training for life like i i don't have really any goals you know i don't strength train as much as i i used to i do the bare minimum and you know that's my path and I'm fine with that but I do focus on all those things where like okay I do standing meditation at least 30 minutes a day you know how many people go crazy after two minutes standing still and doing nothing yeah because it's fucking boring you have to shut off this monkey mind in our in our head and go in but once a few minutes like five six seven minutes pass all of a sudden it's the same with laying down you know the laying down is obviously the the entry after three minutes you go crazy because like why am i laying down why i'm breathing like this this is so boring i'd rather be on my phone i check my messages whatever but once you have to stop that and then allow coming back down allow yourself to do that it's nothing wrong with being present it's nothing wrong with like going inward but we live in a world that's really also driven by eager in the external environment so we almost feel bad by doing that that's the worst part of it you get guilt shamed in a sense by the external environment when you slow down how dare you, what do you mean like you're not working 24-7 how dare you like you're not waking up at 4am go on a 3 hour run and then work in the office for 10 hours that's the way you're supposed to live, no like we have a parasympathetic and a sympathetic state They're there for a reason.

1:04:33So everyone is talking about the 80-20 rule. And in my mind, I'm like, what if we shift our life and our state of being from being 99.9 % or most of the time 100 % in the sympathetic state to 80 % in the parasympathetic in the rest in the chest mode and 20 % in the sympathetic state, which is a go mode if you want to work out, if you want to do something, work and so forth. You know, when you do that, you still can work in the parasympathetic and the rest in the chest mode. You're just calmer so the shit doesn't matter as much that people throw at you. And then you go to Europe, for example, to go to Greece or you go to Spain and you look at the people who are 89 years old.

1:05:20They have siesta. They don't care what other people do all the time. They have a lot of leisure time. They're not grinding 24-7 and they live a healthy and happy life. So I don't think necessarily it's the food we eat because you can't eat the healthiest diet. If your nervous system is destroyed by doing all the things, your body doesn't even want to absorb anything. Because if you run away from a tiger 24-7, right? This is so simplified. Listen to this. So you run away from a tiger 24-7, at times even two tigers, right? Full force, full sprint because you're about to be eaten. The last thing my body wants to do is digest food.

1:06:02The last thing my body wants to do rest. The last thing my body wants to reproduce. The last thing I want to do is smile. And the last thing I want to do is relax. Yeah, because I've been chased by a tiger 24-7. So you look around. Everyone is on some testosterone replacement, peptide. Yeah, because the hormones are off. I feel bad. I don't sleep. then I have to take laxatives because I'm constipated 24-7. I only go to the bathroom once a week. I'm like, okay, what's the root cause of all that? Why not just removing all? I'm not trying. I don't want to put on a Band-Aid. What's the root cause?

1:06:42Why is this stuff happening? And trust me, Chris, most of the time, it's just a lack of breathing, awareness around breath and awareness around our internal environment. when you shift that your body is perfectly designed to heal itself but coming back down you have to allow yourself to let your body heal you have to allow yourself to slow down and it doesn't mean oh everyone should stop working out, everyone should start running everyone should start working I don't mean that I mean you have to if I want to build a life and I look at it I want to build a big life I want to go really far in life So I want to build a skyscraper I want to build a skyscraper Everyone wants to build a skyscraper these days But nobody wants to first build the foundation It's never too late to build that You always can go back The ground floor New skyscraper And put in a solid foundation Which is awareness and breathing So if we all would do that whatever storm comes into your life whatever thing happened whether family loss whether it's breakups yeah it shakes a little bit your building but you have a solid foundation and you're still on track and you know you can withstand anything because your foundation is there so the breathing and awareness is your foundation and from that you can do anything so if you have that together you know you can do anything in life you can become the greatest athlete you can do anything but you have to have your foundation right And more and more, if you look at athletes, more and more people focus on nose breathing, slow deep breathing, proper recovery.

1:08:30And the athletes who have a very long career, they focus on that early on. It's just someone may have told them that early on they listened, they understood it, they felt it, and then they stuck with it. All of a sudden, instead of a 10-year career, I can have a 20-year career. So it's the same with life. If I stop chasing and start living, if you start living your life in the present moment with an open heart, you'll never have a bad day in your life. So when you reference the 30-minute exercise on bed, every time I try and do a longer breath work lying down, especially if the breath is slow, not fast Wim Hof style stuff, I fall asleep almost every time.

1:09:19Does that tell you anything about my body or my state? Why do you think that is? And also when I try and put on a movie, I fall asleep straight away. Is there something going on with my body feeling stressed and in final flight? So when you start doing that, as I said, you start breathing slow and deep. Movie can be very calming. You do that for a few minutes. all of a sudden you actually get into the parasympathetic state and then if your body is stressed what's the first thing it wants to do? Rest, recover and sleep. So you just have to let it allow it. So there's something we can learn from everything.

1:09:56The responses our body gives are amazing. That's exactly what it's supposed to be. So if I sleep if I fall asleep probably I need exactly that right now. And from that place it's like you're not going to fall asleep every single time you do that you may fall asleep the first five, ten days, however long you do that. Then that slowly recharges you, and then next minute you've… You get energy from it. Yeah. So it's the same. There's different practices I teach to people, and some of them, they always require the breath. But when I teach classes, which a lot of times I start really with movement-based practices, and I introduce them to the breath, because we're all so scattered, and our nervous system is all over the place.

1:10:39I used to do that Where I put people together And I Okay today The first time The first practice We do together Whether it's If I have like A residency or something Somewhere I focus on the breath I lose most people After 10 minutes Because they don't want to go there In their physical body But also not in their mind So I have to take Meet people Where they're at Right So If you start Consciously focusing On your breath For example For you right If this is the case, you fall asleep immediately and you find it super boring, but you know how your breathing mechanics are and where to breathe into, you can just go for a walk and start breathing like this.

1:11:20So you're doing something physical because that's what you've been doing for the last 20 years or so. But you're already paying attention to your breath. It takes you a little bit longer maybe to get there, but the simplest is really just to lay down. But again, we have to meet people where they are. if you find yourself you fall asleep let your body rest you know over time you get more and more energy from that because your body is recovered so it's the same if i starve my body of oxygen every cell in my body runs of oxygen so if i have a shallow breath of course i'm getting sick of course i i can't think straight i have a headache all the time and then you know there's a million different diseases that's out there that people put a label on it it's not curable i mean I question all of that a lot of times because it's like what's the baseline of the person's nervous system and how are they operating through life and then when you create awareness around it's like okay maybe there's a different way to approach that situation yeah that's what the book the body keeps to school yeah it talks about a lot right yeah it's all about that yeah I want I want to digress to something you said earlier.

1:12:30You mentioned that you don't study the Bible, but you do know God. What do you mean? So I don't sit down. I grew up in organized religion. I grew up Catholic. I was an altar boy. That's what I had to do. So I broke out of this. I was like, this is all got forced onto me. I was like, I don't want to do that. my parents as we grew up they wouldn't go to church anymore i stopped going and i was like oh this is all nonsense and then of course like the further away away i was from from god the more my ego started yelling and so i chased all those things about three years ago so i came back to first i studied hinduism buddhism read a lot from ticnat han and all those things and you know the present moment and all those things but what i always was missing is like okay i'm in the present moment but if i feel lost in life there's nobody holding me there's i have no backbone i was supposed to do life all alone so i have no wall to lean against it so the fear and the anxiety and the worry is still there so then i was going back a little bit i'm like okay you look around in nature someone has to create that right it doesn't come from anywhere so there's something greater than us and i never really felt comfortable for myself to call it a universe or whatever so i started just praying to god so i was like started praying started listening a little bit more to what my intuition says and started breathing and then all of a sudden you know i was like i don't have to go to church to worship the soon as i speak about god that's worship for me.

1:14:14I can have a worship every second of my life if I want. So I read the Bible, not everything. I go in and I open a page, I have one at home, and I read it, whatever I want to read, whatever I think feels right in the moment, whatever page opens, really. But I don't study it. Because you know what I noticed, and it's with everything. It's again, we believe, oh, if I know the Bible by hand, If I really study Carl Jung's work, then I'm really enlightened. Then I know everything and then I know it all. Yeah, we study all those books. We do all the certifications. But you don't implement anything into your life.

1:14:56So you can't... I see that all the time. People, they know every scripture on the tip of the finger. But they're still not good people. They treat everyone like dog shit. They're not nice people. It doesn't mean anything to me. I'm not saying it's wrong to know all that And yeah maybe there's a time in my life Where I study the Bible Very deeply to understand a little bit more But for me I'm someone I always take two steps backward And I look at myself Like a toddler I'm like okay I need to practice things that are really Appliable and understandable And digestible Because otherwise I get carried away I'm not present again and that's the same how I work with people so if someone if you if I tell you exactly what's going on when you take turmeric exactly on a cellular level in your body, who wants to know that?

1:15:55Everyone wants to know it's anti-inflammatory it gets me out of pain, that's it so we have to find a way to communicate with each other so it's digestible understandable and it's all simple you know, if I know God and I feel him every day because I practice presence and I listen and I pray. That's what I do every day. I don't feel I need to know every single scripture by hand because I already worship him every second of my life. So when you say you know God, what do you mean? So when you believe, so I believe tomorrow it's nice weather. Maybe, but maybe a thunderstorm storm is coming tomorrow so when i know and the knowing is a feeling it's not up here in my mind it's an i know god because i know that we all the reflection of god in human flesh and i know that i can bring god in this in the center of my life every second of my life and i can feel the holy ghost when i'm actually doing what i know gets me there which is slowly breathing in awareness so from that place i stopped saying i believe in god because believing doesn't mean anything I believe I believe tomorrow as I said tomorrow is nice whether I believe tomorrow there's big waves in Malibu maybe not I don't know so when I when I phrase that because words are very powerful when I say I know God my subconscious also realizes that so if I know God exists and I know God then I always have a backbone the strongest backbone you can have so I don't have to worry whatever happens in life happens for a reason I always will be taken care of So when you say you know God Are you referencing God as in Jesus Christ Or you don't use He doesn't have a name, his name is God So what I believe in And what I know for myself I don't label it I know Jesus existed And he was another reflection of God in human flesh He did his journey on this earth in order to show us what's possible and what's the truth.

1:18:06But God is within everything on this planet. And I can see that as a reflection in you, in any animal, and in everything. So Jesus was just there really, or was there, not just, he was there to show that God really exists. and that's something greater out there than just our little ego mind you know and that's where i always refer to and go back to it's like i don't have a name but if i can live my life driven by that force which is really pure love and an open heart which is what god wants us to do that's why our soul is in this body to have a human experience and to remember and to bring back what it means to be human and to be loved.

1:18:59And there's no doubt in my mind that we all have that energy within ourselves. We just have forgotten how to feel that and how to remember that. I don't go to church to learn something. If I need to go to church to find God, that's what I said in the beginning. What you're looking for is already looking at your entire life. And you can see it when you look in the mirror because it's yourself. Yeah. What makes you pick up the Bible then if it's not Jesus Christ that you feel connected to? The stories that I can read in there. And for example, I work with people to get them out of pain and it strengthens me as whether you call it a healer or whatever you want to call it.

1:19:48If I know that there was someone living on this earth, Jesus Christ, who literally walks up to someone on the street who can't walk and says, touches that person and tells that person, stand up and walk again. Because it's the energy Jesus was living, which was 100 % pure love and God's energy. Basically, what I feel is that he was able to convince the subconscious mind of anyone to do different than what they've been taught, even the physical body. So that's why I read the Bible, to learn and to understand a little bit more what we're actually capable of. See, this is interesting, because the biggest struggle I'm having with the Bible, I'm deep diving into my faith and grew up not really with any religion or anything.

1:20:45The struggle I'm having with Christianity and the Bible is the stories. it feels like I'm watching the Avengers and I struggle with those stories, turning water into wine and curing blindness and, you know, Mary being conceived from God, not from the neighbor, a woman being made from a rib cage of a man, like all the stories I struggle with because it feels like a supernatural movie. movie and and and so it's interesting having you flipping it and saying that you're looking in as a healer yourself you're looking in the book for the stories to get connected to the higher power that those stories bring i guess yeah i mean look i know and i i'm 100 sure that what we've been taught about the abilities as humans it's like not even a friction what we're actually capable of and again it's about to allow ourselves to broaden our horizon and first and foremost believe in that it's happening and it's possible if I don't have faith in it and I don't believe it in it then I'll never know because I blocked it's the first blockage I put on myself it's like a barrier It's like, you know, the guy who, I forgot his name, the guy who broke the four minute mile.

1:22:16I don't know his name. I forgot his name. Someone said it recently on the show. I can't remember that. So everyone said it's humanly impossible to run the four minute mile, break the four minute mile. He did it. Within the same month, multiple other people did it. Yeah, why? Because he proved that it's possible. So people started believing in it and he knew it's possible. So other people started having faith in it, trust in it, and believed in it. Yeah, that's like Carl Jung's common unconsciousness. He talks about how we're all connected in realms and the studies that he did. But I think there was like 100 monkeys on an island and then another island really far away had another 100 monkeys.

1:23:00And 100 monkeys learned a new thing. And then around the same time, these other monkeys on a completely different island learned the same thing. And it's like this weird common unconsciousness where everyone's connected. I feel like there's some power in being able to remove all of the, and that's not as relevant to the four minute mile thing. The four minute mile thing is more like, well, I now have, it's been shown that it's possible. So now I know that I can do it because I've seen another human do it. It's like when you can believe it, then it's not the, and that's the same thing that they had the, the ant and they'll draw a circle in.

1:23:37Have you seen this? and they kept drawing, and the ant, when they draw a circle around it, the ant won't go over the circle. Oh, wow, I think so. And then it keeps making the circle smaller and smaller and smaller until it got very small, the ant would not go around the circle. And they kept going smaller and smaller, and then the ant's foot stepped over the circle. And once it stepped over the circle, it ran out, and you could never trap it ever again. And there's something powerful in that, right? We feel like we've got all these walls, all these barriers, all these rules, frankly, that we feel like we need to comply to.

1:24:14And then as soon as we break them and realize that they're not actually a rule, we've just made it up in our head. We've been told that society's put us in these boxes. We step outside of it and go, I'm free. Exactly. That's actually not real. I've lived my whole life like this and now it's not real. And then there's this freeing nature that comes with it. so then that's when the thought then when I catch myself in that moment I just go okay well what are all of the imaginary ceilings and they're imaginary what have I made up in my life that's keeping me stuck let's just step our foot over those lines and just see what happens yeah exactly there's some power in that there's so much power in that because it's really I feel most people live their life with a very dimmed capacity of what they can actually do and when you turn on the light a little bit more and more and more all of a sudden you realize wow and that's really coming back to the bible it's like especially for me the work i do i believe there's a time and a place and if i keep working on the things that i'm doing on a personal level for myself consciously and aware that you can heal people like that there's people out there who do that you just don't really hear about that there's people out there they with their presence and their awareness they touch people and they change their life is changing I mean you hear it all the time like Joe Dispenza does it they have an event with thousands of people all of a sudden someone with a wheelchair goes on stage and all of a sudden the person starts walking why is that yeah because it's the collective energy the positive energy heals the body we all frequency it's all frequency right so if certain frequencies and certain cables quote unquote nerves and so forth and the body are not firing up because they block for some reason so if I go in an environment that is highly charged chances it rips open and all of a sudden the energy flows again are pretty high but again we have to believe in it if you look at western medicine teaches us very different but there's so much we can't just do on ourselves again the kingdom of heaven is within the body is able to heal itself if you give it the right time and the ability and the space so when you believe that and you just pay a little bit attention to what maybe people that did that cured themselves i mean there's for example fasting right there's people who heal themselves from anything by just not eating you go on the other other end of the spectrum where people like a doctor would tell you if you have cancer never fast like so why does it work for one person why doesn't work for the other one because one person believes that the other one just doesn't buy into it and it comes back down to being able to listen to our inner voice again our intuition if i make any decision i ask myself and you can do muscle testing you know there's different things once you get a little bit into it where you actually can reassure yourself.

1:27:20But by the core, when you know how to down-regulate yourself and you have a regulated nervous system and you live in the present moment at that time where you ask yourself or when something comes up, the first thing that comes to mind is the answer or that first thing you feel in your body is the answer, which is really, in a sense, like God protecting us from all the little hurdles that we may step over or like the little dog poops we step into. Because if you listen properly, you cannot overgo all of them. And again, I'm not saying if everyone just focuses on the present moment, you'll never have anything happen in your life.

1:28:00It's not the case because, as I said, he wants us to experience life fully. And you also grow. Every setback makes you grow as a person. And whatever happens to you on a physical, emotional level or financial level, if you look at it with a bird's eye view and ask yourself what you can learn from that, it makes you grow. As a man, as a woman, it doesn't really matter. Yeah. I'm catching myself in a tricky position when it comes to God and as I'm deep diving and faith and religion and all of the pillars. I resonate very strongly with what you say and with how Grayson talks and I resonate massively with this lens but then I connect so well and get so drawn towards Christians and like there's something about people that are spending their time in the word and reading the bible and studying it and trying to live in that way in being obedient to Jesus, there's something about those people that just radiate this light.

1:29:14They call it the Jesus glow, but they just radiate this incredible bubbly energy that I gravitate towards and love so much, which is why I keep deep diving. I look at the human and I look at the person and I look at how they act. There's obviously the ones that are more performative, trying to just show and put themselves on a moral high horse, but the real ones that aren't preaching it down your throat, but really are just showing in this way that I'm so drawn to. But there's so much of it that I feel so disconnected to and don't really connect with. And there's so much of it that feels very fear-driven and division and all of this.

1:29:50And then I hear stuff like you explaining how it's all within us and we're all connected and we're all one. And I feel so connected to that, but then And I'm just drawn with this extra level of radiation I get from people that are like true Christians living in the word and really trying to be obedient to God. And I'm like, I don't know where I land. I'm walking this walk, but it's so fascinating and so interesting, this journey of faith and what really ultimately is going to make you show up in a better way and make the world a better place and make your life be at more peace and be able to access that presence more and whatever that place is.

1:30:36what is that truth? I don't know. And it's just one of those ones where I keep bouncing between these thoughts based on who I'm speaking to and trying to gather my own thoughts and then end up in a space where I don't really know. Well, as I said, there's nothing wrong or right by any means with anything. And I completely respect anyone who reads the Bible every day and knows everything. I'm not saying this is wrong. What I found is exactly what I said earlier. for myself because I've done a lot of extreme things in my life and for me on a personal level everything extreme always breaks always and I can't make it my life it's the same any rigidity anything too rigid I start doing in my life it just doesn't work for long term but it doesn't mean I can't be connected to God so how I would look at it is okay what can I learn from everyone around me and then make it my own because yeah if someone studies the Bible a lot of the times and lives their life devoted to that their positive energy, the Jesus glow that you said is because they completely immersed in it that's their life, you live your life by the Bible which how Jesus was living so essentially they very evolved humans so the problem for myself if I do that I have blindfolders on again exactly so my question that I ask myself is I know God is real I know we are a reflection of God I don't have to follow a rule book I can read the book hence the Bible learn something from it get inspired but I still can make life my own and live the full authentic self fully authentic being the most authentic self possible and in order to do that i have to listen to myself what draws me somewhere what what inspires me and i think as soon as we live our most authentic self which is really what our soul wants us to do what essentially god wants us to do to live our fully authentic self Then We can have the greatest life ever Because you can also look at it in a sense And again I don't want to make enemies or anything like this But We live In the year 2026 So the Bible is over 2000 years old And the first testament Even older So if I fully Try to do everything In that what's written in this book And don't modify my life around that because we live in a different environment there's different stresses there's different things in our life you may still not feel fully yourself because we evolved also as humans the heart is still the same so how about i'm living my life from an open heart with complete love to myself see everyone as a reflection of myself so because i can learn something from everyone.

1:33:59I treat everyone the same. And I think when everyone would live their life in that way, with an open heart, as much in the present moment as you can, there wouldn't be as much hatred and worries and fear, because we all feel that God presence within ourselves, and you see it in another person. So the distraction, the scattering goes away. And again, just to clarify this if someone feels very grounded and someone feels very connected when they read the Bible study the Bible every single day that's great but I just I always share what I feel for myself because I want to live by example because I also know that there's more people who feel and think the way I am and it has to be sort of like simplified and if I do something simple on a daily base everyone sticks with it if you teach someone something complicated out of 100 people you might lose 90 and then go really deep you might keep one so for me I believe that I'm here in this life for a reason to help people feel something really so feel loved, whole and enough and when as long as I can help them with whatever that is spark that light of self love, spark that second of awareness the subconscious and the physical body remembers that it's actually possible so my entire thing for everyone is to understand and really know that we are sovereign beings that everything we need is here doesn't mean I can't buy things, I don't mean that by that, it's like if I know that I'm a sovereign being that the kingdom of heaven is within, that the love we seeking is already there and you practice it that gives you an immense amount of confidence, but also strength within yourself.

1:35:59And from that place, you can really do anything in your life. You can write a million books if you want to, you know, and inspire people differently. Jesus came, in my opinion, and what I feel about this, to this world to show that God really exists. And, you know, prior to that, if you think of Moses and all that, all those stories maybe wouldn't inspire us to this day anymore but jesus came in real form did certain things that i believe are all true and then from that place i can go back inward and understand that actually i have the same capacities everyone has the same capacities you know it's like yeah there's dna there's genetics and so forth but there's still to a certain level when it comes to how we operate around humans how we help each other and what we do in life we all have a gift and that gift has to do with serving each other and making each other a better person you know not everyone has to not everyone has a podcast right you have a podcast you do that from your heart because you know how to get how to get things out of people you know how to talk in order to get things into people.

1:37:12So that makes them feel something. You inspire millions every month because you come from an open heart and from love and that makes them feel something. Every single person who listens to your podcast, either they learn something and they feel something. Maybe they're not interested in the topic but they still feel something because it triggers something in them. And it's the same for me. The things I do, I want to share as much as I learn and I can to make people feel something. Authors are the same. Someone is a cook, a really good chef. They make people feel something when they eat their food.

1:37:46It's just like being aware of that helped me tremendously understand that we all do our best. And when we get out of the ego, we actually find the gift and then we can do our very best. Yeah. thanks for coming on the show jules thank you brother i i think uh yeah i'm so grateful for you and just every time we catch up i feel a great energy and a good vibe and it puts a smile on my face we didn't talk about fatherhood or anything but i was so happy seeing you and your wife and your daughter uh son your son um and the bronco and everything just at the one cup i got It was so cool just to see and so inspiring.

1:38:35And I just think, yeah, congrats on everything that you're doing. And it's been a blessing today. I wish we could go for a long time, but I think the other guest is waiting around here. So I appreciate you so much. Thank you, brother. Thanks, Jules. Thank you, man.

Most people think the fix for stress is another biohack: an ice bath, a supplement, a $150K hyperbaric chamber. Jules Horn says the real fix has been sitting in your chest the whole time.

Former model, now breathwork and nervous system coach, Jules Horn unpacks why most people are stuck in fight or flight without even knowing it, why "what's possible isn't always optimal," and why chasing more, money, validation, relationships, never actually fills the void.

Key discussion points

Chronic stress and nervous system disregulation as the hidden default state of modern life

The "stress cup": auditing what adds vs. removes stress from your day

What's possible isn't the same as what's optimal

Chasing achievement, money, or love never fills an internal void

How trauma stays stored in the body until it's processed

The "perfect breath" and why breath cadence is the lowest hanging fruit for regulation
