In short
A “bro chat” mixing relationship philosophy, self-improvement, training/fitness talk, and entrepreneurship. They argue women’s roles (wife/mom) are undervalued versus career/money metrics; money should not replace character. They discuss monetizing passion realistically (using the e-myth “pie shop” example) and how expecting income from passion can strip enjoyment. They also cover getting out of funks (trusting habits, avoiding comparison loops), building meaningful connections after moving cities, and training structure (strength focus, progressive overload, skill-based cross-training).
Guests
No guest names are provided in the transcript; it’s a two-host conversation (two men). One host is a podcaster/runner and strength trainee; the other is also a trainer/coach who works with clients and discusses powerlifting/benching and client “funs.”
Key claims
Physical touch matters on dates; “no sex till marriage” is discussed alongside the complication of a prior child/marriage. Consistency beats intensity for staying fit. Social media authority can be premature.
Notable examples
Barton Springs date with handstands; “pie shop” technician vs owner from The E-Myth; benching PR talk (100kg/315lb references); soccer-ball juggling as skill training.

Yeah, it definitely depends. I mean, like if a woman's going to go on a hot girl walk, I love that. Bro, but if she's going on a ugly girl walk with her phone in landscape mode and tries to avoid eye contacts, you're a scary guy. Dude, that's not the type of women that you need, hey? Yeah. But honestly, though, honestly, I feel like without women, I would not be anywhere near as driven as I am. Oh, no. Think about this. If you took away women from this world, do you think men would be as hungry?
0:43I honestly think that I could probably be homeless and sleep by a beach if it wasn't for girls. Because they're like the pinnacle, right? You work so hard to attract your dream partner. Yeah. And then the reason you want to do that is so you can have a loving partner that you're connected with. She can be an amazing mother to your children. You can then raise the children with that partner. And your new purpose becomes that partner, the family and all that. You take all that away. Why am I making money? I'm not going to go past 10 grand a month. You don't need to. I mean, for the boys. Dude, you don't have to do anything.
1:21You don't have to prove anything. I just show up and say some good jokes and hit the gym. Yeah, that's all you need for the boys. Realistically speaking, I think when we try to dismiss the difference between men and women, it gets a little bit silly. But if you emphasize the difference, you're actually paying a pretty grand respect to both sides. because I think people think women are disrespected because most people are comparing their value to the typical obvious metrics of success, which is just career, money, job, corporate world, whatever else. But when you look at their actual value outside of that cheap category, you go, oh, wow, this is actually incredible.
2:09And being a wife or a mom or whatever the hell is actually really valuable. It should be championed. I think so. Looking at the markers of finance and commerce as a value of a woman's worth is such a scarce-minded thing because if you're making really good money as a partnership, right? And I'm not talking like week-to-week money. I'm talking like when you're actually making good money. Yeah. It's not the thing that matters. It's like you can do everything. And so it becomes far beyond that. And so I think what's really attractive is when someone can look far beyond that and know that their worth is far more significant than any shekels that anyone can ever make.
2:51I think it's far more significant. Think of the people that use money to define their character. It's the people who are very self-conscious. They don't have self-worth. So they place it in money. I mean, I made a... I filmed a little video yesterday because I was thinking about it at the gym and I literally wrote it down. so I guess I was phone mongering at the gym for a moment but I know I wrote down the idea and all I said was to all my rich people out there if all your money went away and you're actually left with nothing you have a lot of work to do because if you don't have character and things that are attached to you as a person instead of the things you have you're not actually that valuable especially as a man and this was post jiu-jitsu so I was feeling a little bit fired up I go if you're lazy you're unhealthy you can't conduct healthy relationships you can't defend yourself I mean I don't care if you have a million bucks who are you really because I mean who doesn't have a million bucks at this point there's there's plenty of rich people to go around but how many people with character are there uh that's definitely a different story and how many people can bench 315 i don't know but i'm one of them baby oh yeah dude i have a a bit of a changing topic these these shoes man like they're like evolved cool people crocs and i'm struggling to understand the utility of them so i've understood that you're not supposed to actually wear socks with them but then i found that like you like you don't really wear socks with them i think they're recovery shoes so they're targeted for like right high marathon ultra marathon people right right and they're supposed to have this thing that increases blood flow and anything big bit confused on it i think it's a little texture eyes the little texture on the bottom it's kind of like those socks you wear when you're jumping on the trampolines at those parks that's kind of like what it feels like um and for me honestly i don't wear socks and it just feels like an enclosed croc that gets all sweaty and gross yeah um but anyway i wanted to be a part of the cool people in america so i i i opted for getting them well i actually feel like more of a loser well scientifically speaking you are um for that very reason uh so percentage wise um the amount that canes are better than crocs is actually zero percent i would even go as far as saying they're worse uh because of the intense virtue signaling attached uh dude tell me how tell me how those are helping you recover dude these are so cool man dude look at these i gotta be honest i do i gotta be honest i really like them dude i think i think honestly like convenience yeah uh they kind of they kind of show that you know i'm a bit bit quirky and a bit weird yeah um like i don't know man it's even got it even looks like they they they didn't know what color to do so they went for the gold and accidentally like splattered it all over the shoe and then they ended up just keeping the other color that was already on the base so look i think they've been creative you know i like artistry i mean look i'm i'm all four people making the wrong choice as long as they're admitting of doing so dude this is easy we're gonna do three plates aside no problem yeah dude i don't even do bench press man right it's it's fine we'll just count it in kilos and it'll seem much lighter kilos mate i can't say i'm a i'm a canes guy because it's just if the intent is oh dude i just like these rubber shoes that are kind of like sneakers and crocs and i go sweet but then when we get into oh the textured nibs on the inside help you recover i'm going really are they really you can tell i didn't get sponsored i bought these dude i mean i got i have to give you i transacted money on these i have to give you shit broks man i have to give you shit yeah some other news went down something happened yesterday that i'm going to share with you guys um with with you and perhaps there's people listening to this right now which i can't believe i'm sharing this so um i went on a date last night with the girl i walked up to at barton springs the other day yeah so we were kind of looking at each other at barton springs and i was just going she's cute she's got this awesome vibe and energy about her so I walked up to her right said hello um got chatting we did some handstands and there?
7:41yeah we did no no no so I then took her up to the top of Barton Springs and we're doing handstands together that's where I disappeared for a little bit do you want a 25 by the way? sorry? do you want a 25 on top or another plate? let's do 25 okay yeah um and anyway went on a date went on a date with a last night and I think I'm in love. Really? Dude, I actually have, I'm not in love. That's a lie. But I actually, as weird as this sounds, I've never felt like that on a first date before. Ever. Hey. Ever. Hey. And it made me think, it made me think of coming back to the start of what we're talking about, about women being the pinnacle.
8:31I just kind of went like dude I've not like I'm through I'm frozen after that experience as the night progressed I got more and more quiet because I was lost for words hey it's you know professional podcaster lost for words I know it means something so so how's this right so you know how I was saying when I went up to her her friend was like is that is your friend that guy that does the running do you remember how that happened yeah so they actually knew both of us she did the girl i went on a date with she didn't they her friend knew both of us and when we were doing our handstands and stuff um she she was like do you do you know those people and uh the girl was like was like no but the friend did and knew that i was a podcaster knew that you did the running and then I walked up but she didn't want to say that it was um just to say that she knew me right in front of the girl that I went and approached so she was just like your friend the guy that does the running and then come to find out when I left after I got the girl's number was like he's like got quite a big podcast and then she looked at the page of me and didn't look any further and she when I was on the date with her last night she said that like I didn't want to know anything i wanted to get to know you and who you were because i didn't want to create a preconceived perception of who you were and i was like fuck yeah dude dang dude so that's pretty crazy what was the uh what was the first line we're gonna keep playing eye tag you're gonna holler at your boy what'd you say wait when i when i walked up to her yeah okay what i what did i say i i firstly i kissed her on the cheek now now hit this freaking side now now that's like a let me hear this set first yeah because i think i saw that happen i said that's not an australian thing bro bro's acting like he's european i don't tire yourself out too much bro we're going up we're going heavy i don't know if i'm going heavier than that yeah you are come on that was nine reps or something yeah i know but so uh i will i kiss people i think that if you don't have any physical touch on a date it's a meeting yeah i don't think it's a date if there's no physical touch it's a meeting and so i think physical touch is important you're putting a second plate on this thing yeah so i think physical touch is really important but more importantly if she's lying down she doesn't have the ability to give you a hug so if you walk up to her and you want to greet her in a way that's not a meeting you kind of don't have many options right A little kiss on the cheek is more respectful than, I think, a little handshake.
11:17Not more respectful. It's a bit more intimate. Yeah, yeah. And anyway, they were very shocked, to say the least. Wow. At that? Yeah, they were like, people don't do that. Like her friend, the one that knew you and I, was like, whoa, that was very forward. You just go, yo, my man, we totally do that all the time. I'm like, that's just what we do. Sorry. It's just what we do. So how many reps are you going for here? Probably just three, and then I'm going to go... Damn, I shouldn't have done nine reps or whatever then, hey? Yeah, no. And then I'm going to put these on top of it and hit one, and then we'll see if...
11:57I forget you're trying to get strong, dude. I've not been over the weight I just did.
12:04Oh, dude, we don't even need more than that. That's so light. Dude, we're going to get... I don't know if I can do this. Do it for one. Right now? Yeah. One rep. Last time I tried to go heavy on bench. This is 100 kilos. Last time I tried to go heavy on bench, I pulled my neck and was quite sore for like five days. But you were doing 90s or 100s or something with dumbbells. This is 20 pounds lighter on a bar. 20 pounds heavier on a bar. But I don't do this. Like I ever, ever. I actually don't think I've ever done this. fuck you here i am it's fuck me here i am spotting all right let me get another question okay because we're gonna ask a question yeah yeah um from the instagram and then we can start chatting about that something to think about while i'm struggling on this 100 kgs bros in love uh let's go we moved on from the bros in love chat but but i was blown away she's she's um christian no sex till marriage which is a fascinating fascinating thing but the problem with it and this is I hope she's not listening to this there's one slight problem she has a kid and she was married before whoa whoa yeah yeah so that's the only concern I have but if she wasn't she didn't have a kid I'm like dude let's go Well, I have an off-camera question.
13:34Okay, why is it off-camera? Because it's just foul, but it's a guess.
13:45We're not making that public. Let's go to one of these questions. I need to know this. Okay. No, no, no. If your passion dream job you're doing isn't providing financial support, what do you do? That's such a good question. Let's focus on this for a second. That's a good question, though. I like that. I've, on the record, I don't think I've done this before. Well, just lift it off the bar. Grab the fucking thing real tight. And hold it at the top for a second before you go down. Mom, I didn't raise no bitch. Come on.
14:21That is not heavy, bro. Be confident. Push it up. Yeah, what are we doing? One more. Nope. Bring it back. We're going up. We're going up? That was insulting. I'm not doing that though. I've never done this before. Cracks are easy. I've never done that before. That's good, dude. This is 275. This is the weight that I treat as at any point, I know I can do this. It's just kind of cracking into the heavy barrier. And then best I've ever done was three plates. So we can maybe get close to that today. I was not expecting. I thought we were going to do like some ski erg or something. No, we're not maxing out.
15:01we're just finding a heavy single as they put it okay yeah oh dude i love how this is just gonna be so easy you ready yeah oh my god especially the bumper plates dude that's a crime it shouldn't be that way but it is the thought around doing something that you love and it genuinely lights you up but the problem with it is it doesn't make you any money yeah yeah i think what's interesting about this concept is asking yourself what is the route to it making money and being realistic with this right because i'm all for people doing something that lights them up and they're passionate about doing in fact i can't fathom a life that you know yes for me right but the thing is is if it's like exceptionally hard or maybe you're pushing a boulder uphill you're climbing a ladder that maybe you're never going to get to the top of and it's quite it's not realistic at all achieving it perhaps you're adding more stress more like fucking sleepless nights more worry and lack of ability to be present because you're too focused on all the lack of money that you have in your life, perhaps the cost of that is far greater than the passion that it's doing.
16:21And perhaps the cost of that is stripping away all of your passion from doing the thing in the first place. I think the money is important to make sure that your bases are covered. So if you're a girl, find someone that can fund your life so you can do the passion that doesn't make anybody. If you're a man, go through more shit and perhaps you'll be able to make money on the other side of it. Yeah, I think you can have a job that isn't the passion but makes you a living and leaves enough room to still engage with the passion. Also, surely releasing the responsibility to make money through the passion will probably be the thing that allows you to eventually.
17:05Releasing the responsibility to... To make money through the passion. And so if I started out in what I do, just going, okay, I need to make these videos while I'm running, talking about valuable stuff. And then I'm going to create this funnel and people are going to like it enough and they're going to sign up for this. Then they're going to buy this thing that I have. If I went into it with that mindset, never, ever would I end up where I am. The only way I got to where I am is because I was just compelled to share the things that I was sharing. genuinely didn't have a business mindset going into it at all.
17:42And it's not because I wasn't a business-minded person. I've always considered myself entrepreneurial. But with this, I actually just cared about the thing. And then not thinking about, oh, this needs to make me this much money is probably why I make money through what I do now. Removing the expectation of making the money as well because the expectation just strips away the enjoyment of the thing. Because if you don't achieve the expectation, you're just disappointed as well. which means if we're talking about the pursuit of actually doing the thing and showing up every single day if you're doing something and your expectations here and your reality is far from that the motivation is not really going to be there and you're going to be like fucking pushing just to get out of bed yeah i mean you just uh you just end up hating it i mean i don't know it's it's not it's not going to be fun regardless i don't think i mean take a a bmx rider or something surely nobody loves to be throwing double backflips on a bike and then landing wrong and smashing their shins on the pedals and slamming their head on the ground but they do it because they want to overcome that they want to be the best bmx rider there is or a freaking skier or a chef that maybe started making shitty food and then becomes the best chef in the world it's not actually fun but if you have a close enough tie to the vision of where it goes then you kind of just put up with it I mean you know when you're posting videos I mean I know you had a quicker a quicker come up than I did maybe social media wise but dude when I'm posting what I give a heavy shit about for years and just 1 ,000 views 2 ,000 views every time you just go dude I hate posting on Instagram but I love what I'm talking about I love the idea of people hearing these ideas that that's more of the realistic view yeah have you heard of the emis i don't think so amazing book i'm gonna hit a pr yeah let's go i mean legit i've yeah dude this is what weight is this in kilos it'd probably be better to just not know okay because the the prior weight was a bit too easy okay i mean this is very much within your wheelhouse don't don't stress about this i weigh 75 kilos so yeah yeah it's all good just can control down and then aggressive on the way up come on chris push the weight oh dude freaking right there dude that was so close i didn't commit see it's interesting dude oh see i hate fucking bench man now I'm just sore like my back and like what did I be what did I do wrong there well so with benching I mean with any sort of power lifting I didn't even believe that I was going to get that I think that was the problem yeah I mean you know that's that's definitely a big part of it I would also say there's a skill in power lifting where you got about to that halfway sticking point and I don't know whenever I'm lifting with anybody or you know Owen's hitting a bench it gets to that point I'll just say choose it because you have to want it so bad through that middle part yeah and if you don't believe it or want it it's kind of you probably won't get it but if you get in that little sticking point you just fucking squeeze everything you know then it kind of works dude oh that sucks let's go
21:21up yeah it sure looks like a lot of weight fucking hell he's freaking balloon ass plates so the e-myth is the entrepreneurial myth and what the guy talks about in the book is how someone who's a very good technician goes and tries to make the business himself so the best example i can give you is you've got the pie shop right and the lady that works in the pie shop is very fucking good at making pies extremely good right now she then goes in her mind i'm running this pie shop and i'm my boss and the guy who owns the pie shops making all the money and i'm getting paid pennies on the dollar but i'm the one that's getting making the pies that everyone compliments it's going so viral people love the pies that i make and i'm not making the money from it.
22:13So what she decides to do is she loves pies and loves making them. She works in one, but she doesn't feel like she's rewarded enough. So what she wants to do is she then goes and makes a pie shop herself and she opens her own. Now, what went from being a nine to five now becomes to fucking 24 seven. She doesn't know that there's 20 things that it takes to run a business. The making of the pies is one of them and she's not competent at the other 19. So then she starts this business out of the love of making pies. But what happens is during that desire to make her own business from her passion, she realizes that there's so much else to making pies to actually get people to show up and buy the pies in the first place.
22:56So what happens though is she starts working 24 seven. She makes way less money than she was making getting paid because she's got to spend it on all the other operational costs. She loses all the passion from because when she thinks about making pies, she thinks about the nightmare that is business. So then she goes, fuck this, I'm going to make it up. I'm going to get another job in a pie shop. Yeah. And now she goes and joins a pie shop and has no passion about the pies. She feels like a failure. And so it ties really well into this piece of monetizing your passion. It is amazing, but understand the other pillars.
23:32You're judging one aspect of the success of something and you seem to think that you can replicate it. And I think what can happen is your passion gets stripped away because you realize that the businessman, whether you like capitalist or capitalism or not, probably knows how to run a pie shop better and realizes that he can hire a technician at the same quality of you for cheaper. And so just something to think about when you're going into something that is your passion and you want to make money. Dude, with what I do, I feel like I sacrifice a lot of money potential to maintain what I actually enjoy.
24:09And I mean, a business is a business. You still have to do things that you don't absolutely love. You know what I mean? Do I love just the transaction of charging someone money for something? No. I mean, it's always uncomfortable. There are those things. but that's what allows me to maintain the business well enough to where it allows me to give all of my time to what I do enjoy rather than oh well now I just have to spend all my time making money defeats the purpose of why you started it like you're saying yeah I would I've got I've got two things to challenge you on here which is awesome I love this so first thing is I would argue that you actually would love to shoot a business and the reason i say this is because when you call me and you get so fucking excited about a new funnel and a new process and ironing out the kinks and chatting to all different ai softwares to give you a more of an understanding on how to actually funnel it and how to approach it yeah if you then executed on that and then the next day you made a hundred thousand dollars yeah from it you'd be fucking lit up and your eyes would probably light up yeah it's it's only that that's a that's a product of maintaining the thing if i did that but then it ruined you know the actual uh mentorship with somebody or it ruined my community and then i was just making buckets but then the product sucked that wouldn't be i feel like there's a lot less people with malicious intent than we actually think though i don't i don't think it's malicious intent i feel like it's misled intent but i think that's malicious because you know it's misled i don't think everybody does people do i think they're just not being aware they're just running on overdrive and excitement because they get one little bit of results the other thing that i would challenge though is is you said the charging of the people do you think i enjoy that no i don't i would say that there's a reframing there that could make you really enjoy that process because you know how much of an impact you're going to make yeah for me when i'm transacting I literally am like I am so pumped for you because we're going to fucking crush this and I think the reframing of going this is the price tag that they're paying removing me from it and going this is the price tag that they're paying to get the result that they want and the dream life that they want to live and when I frame it that way it actually the price doesn't even matter it could be $30 ,000 it could be $1 ,000 and I would be so excited if I can frame it in the way of deep down conviction and trust that I know that I'm going to be able to get them the result that they want.
26:42Yeah. And for me, that is, it's an exciting process. Yeah. You know? I mean, I think... I'm going to go for two reps, do you think? Yeah. Yeah? That's easy. Because it also differs where you're meeting people. Because I think you are meeting people in a place where they're trying to start a podcast, a business. This is a good point. You know what I mean? Whereas for me, some people are trying to climb out of a hole. Yeah. It's interesting. And it's also a lot harder to quantify the result. Yeah. There's a lot of trust that comes into play. Let's quantify this result with two reps. 225. So you shut the eyes.
27:19Come on. You visualize. Peace. You just imagine it going down, and then you fucking explode up. Fucking explode. Come on. Here we go.
27:33Come on. Like, wait. Just choose the reps. Go. Oh, that's easy. You really want it on this. Go. Go. Yeah. Fuck. Let's go. He proved it. I proved it. I proved it. You see, I think so much of that is mental. It really is.
28:01Here we go. One more.
28:08I got another one. Here we go. Get up. Yee. Went for three. Oh, man. Got four. Got four. Let's go. Let's go. Question. That's good. So when you get in a funk, how do you manage to get out of it? How about this? You work with a bunch of people that are in a funk. Yeah. And you are giving people tailored advice to get out of those funks. Yeah. What are some of the things that you see and common denominators with that? Well, so... I'm going to drop the weight again. Chuck this off and put this on. Okay. I think a lot of people know a lot of the right things to do to get their life on track, get the right habits.
28:53I don't know, just have better energy, a better mood, just simple lifestyle things. I was actually talking with one of my clients today about the fact you actually have to trust. you have to really work to trust that they do something because let's say you're having the worst day ever are you really going to believe that a 10 minute walk is going to do anything for you probably say screw that i'm not what's a walk gonna do when i'm worried about x y and z you probably don't go on the walk it's a pretty big responsibility to go on the walk to do the cold shower to go to the gym because those are the things that actually stack up and change things realistic answer for me if I'm in a funk.
29:30I feel like it's usually because things will be going pretty well and then maybe I have a conversation with somebody, see a video about somebody that's crushing it in any kind of category and then I go, comparison. Damn. And I actually quite like it because I'm confident enough to where comparison isn't destructive. It's more so fueling. And so then uh simply put i just obsess over learning refining trying to get better and then i do and i go sweet okay leveled up you know so i think there's just little versions of that but i'm in one of those right now where i've recognized some deficits i'm going nah dude i'm i'm fixing the hell out of this yeah i i find that when i'm truly truly aligned and clear with what i'm trying to do comparison doesn't creep in but when you're in a little bit of like a just for me personally i find when i'm in a little bit of like a uh not crystal clear on what the next steps are for me in my relationships my life my career the thing is is then i go oh fuck how are they doing this like i want to do that and and then I get into this and it's a negative feedback loop because then for me, and this is just personal, but what happens with me is I then go, fuck, they're doing that.
30:58Maybe I should do that. But then actually, no, I need to do this. But then, oh, fuck, this isn't working. And then I try something and it doesn't work. And then you see another thing of someone crushing it and it just goes, fuck. And I find like, it's like a course correction needs to happen where we go, okay, what do I actually want? what are the things in my life that i'm optimizing for and if i have a hard look at myself with no external factors like what is actually the centerpiece for me yeah i think that's trying to bring myself back i think uh i think when you've got a really strong view of the priorities then it's i think you can more productively compare because you're staying in your lane and just seeing people that are maybe a little bit ahead yeah for sure didn't someone didn't someone ask uh what kind of underwear or whatever do you want to answer that one well it's funny because i've been rocking uh boxers every once in a while which i'm not used to at all because i usually go for the briefs and uh on an upper body day it's fine what's the what's what's boxes the oh right so freaking it feels a little bit uh not concerning but we'll just say different We didn't even call them that in Australia, dude.
32:13What do you guys say? Well, we don't even wear anything. You just rip it naked? I'm joking. So the question that they're asking is, how do you guys train? And the answer is, well, we actually don't even train. No, we just talk. We just figure out. Bro, it's right there. Come on. Let's go. Come on. Jeez. Oh, we put it in the wrong way. No. We can make it work. So the answer is we don't actually train. We just troubleshoot and do things that look cool and take steroids. Yep. Pretty much.
32:48Oh, yeah. I reckon after you do these, you're going to do these every chest workout. This is the best chest exercise in the fucking world. Okay. I'm telling you. Give it a try.
33:05It's a big squeeze. Probably don't need to go that low. i mean you can but yeah that's good so we got another question how do you build meaningful connections after moving to a new city dude that's perfect for both of us that's a very it's a very it's a very interesting topic because yeah the key word there's meaningful right you can meet people you can find people yeah but like meaningful connection is the key thing there how do we actually foster good connection with people that are um are like actually going to benefit us and inspire us i'm gonna grab some weight okay dude i'm gonna be honest i feel like that is what sometimes keeps me from just meeting people in volume is because sometimes i don't trust that it is going to be meaningful yeah but then the problem there is that you can't know before you meet the person.
34:03You know what I mean? So you have to just meet people and then some of them turn out to be the meaningful connections, you know? Yep. Let's do that by myself, dude. Damn. Money. That's a lot of weight, dude.
34:20Dang. Yeah, so you restrict yourself from putting yourself out there in the first place because you're preempting that it's not going to be meaningful. yeah which I'm so much better about it now but I think historically that was a really big obstacle of mine is that I would prejudge how meaningful it's going to be before it's even happened for me the more known I'm becoming the more I'm isolating myself the less I want to be around big crowds in fact the less I enjoy being around big crowds so for me what I'm just trying to do is like for example when i came here before i moved into the place i'm living in now i wanted to i was looking at a place out by lake austin 30 minute drive away and the thought was i wanted to be i wanted to go in and meet people and have an intention behind the drive not just mindlessly going and i wanted to lock in i was like gonna move 30 minutes away and i'm glad someone pulled me up on it because for me that's very comfortable going okay i've moved to a new city.
35:20I'm clear on what I'm trying to do. I don't want to see people. I'm just going to fucking lock in and have a really inspiring place. And while there's nobility in that, and I think it's cool. Um, I wanted to challenge that a bit and actually put myself out there a bit. Yeah. And what I'm finding is it's very advantageous to do so putting myself out there, knowing what serves me, what doesn't serve me, and then letting that decide whether I spend more time because if it doesn't serve me which a lot of connections don't serve you and you still spend time mindlessly hanging out with these people that aren't serving you and they're not even like very aligned just for the sake of not being alone I think that's a cop out and you need to spend more time alone to be more comfortable being alone I agree I feel like I have a slightly different angle because dude the last five six seven years before the last 12 months was just pure me yep you know what i mean and really small friend groups never really having a community outside of that honestly never really having many opportunities to meet new people which was crazy and now i think what i'm stoked about is that my locking in and kind of just being in my zone still includes those really close people that all kind of have a similar vision and we can go outside of that and meet new people and have larger communities i think the new city aspect allows you to just be whoever you want to be instead of you know staying stuck to what people already know no one knows you yeah yeah yeah yeah and and you don't feel like people know the old versions of you and so if you're evolving and changing so much you don't feel this pressure of oh what are all these people going to think of the change because they don't have a comparison point so it kind of is quite a freeing feeling it's a fresh start yeah yeah um let me just put this on your back yeah how do you both personally structure your training we train very differently yeah both of us as you've never done these really like yeah we'll see interestingly you've done You had some gymnastics back in the day though, right?
37:32Yeah, that was kind of my whole background was calisthenics, gymnastics, tumbling, and that kind of thing. So I'm a big fan of skill-based stuff, which honestly creates a lot of conflict for people who are purely endurance athletes. Because I love the idea of endurance, but skill building just works a different part of your brain that I'm super fascinated with. So, for example, I love juggling the soccer ball. that is so stimulating to me because it's not just a linear thing whereas running is hard but it's not that abstract it's just there's one task and you just do it you do it really well or poorly or fast or slow but it's one thing the soccer ball or skateboarding or wakeboarding skiing those things I go man you're controlling another thing there's this fine fine nuanced control of coordination I think there's I think that's not emphasized enough in kind of the athletic realm yeah what are your thoughts on this uh title of hybrid athlete I mean I I get the sentiment but not not everything is a sport not every person who exercises or tries to be an athlete is an athlete and it's not to exclude people i just think that words need to mean something there should be a distinct verbal difference between usain bolt and someone who you know just jogs someone is an uh an olympic sprinter and the other person just likes to be fit and they're both labeled as runners yeah i mean it's just you know it's not that big of a deal it's just i think when marketing takes over too much and branding takes over too much and it kind of just skews things and uh yeah i think it discredits words or kind of dissolves the meaning of words yeah yeah that's like when you when you are trying to merge men and women together to say that we're the same it's stripping away from the actual excellence that the individual parties have oh yeah like by saying that men and women are the same and we should treat them the same and we should do the same things is basically stripping away from how beautiful women are and how beautiful men are and how beautiful the differences are but we merge them all together take usain bolt and fucking person trying to start their running same thing yeah yeah it's true i like this this is cool there's a spectrum but then again what are you supposed to say like what are you supposed to call yeah i mean you could say i'm somebody that works it's to be the last set as well you know i'm a fit person i'm a healthy person i like to run i like to sprint doesn't mean you're uh an athlete necessarily i mean also i guess where i would challenge my own thinking on this does someone have to compete in their sport or their activity to be considered an athlete well fuck athlete that was athlete tech is right there man well here's here's an interesting thing around that so perhaps externally you can label yourself as whatever you want yeah but my question would be why why would you want to say that you are something that you're not and deep down you know that you're not that thing because I think what that can do is it can make you feel more of an imposter and more fraudulent right which might mean that you show up in the wrong way that's not truly who you are an example of this and this shows in content right is say you're just getting into running and you're really enjoying running but you're quite frankly a massive amateur at running but what you do is in your messaging and in your content you say that i'm a runner right and you explain to yourself and you explain to your audience that you're a runner people aren't going to feel connected with you because you're labeling yourself a runner but you can barely run five kilometers whereas if you pivoted that and was authentic and honest and you said i am new to running and my goal is to be able to run five kilometers i'm not the best yet i'm trying to figure it out right and you actually do that people are going to be like fuck good on you for giving it a go yeah whereas if you can barely run 5k and you say i'm a runner and that's what i do yeah then i think the problem with this is people are going to be like well you can barely even run five fucking k's yeah but then if we talk about it on another front is like but you kind of need to be that person to then become that to show up in those habits and etc etc and i think that's like the counter argument and i see both sides because i live that way but i'm just not sure if it strips away from the authenticity of who you actually are especially if it's a competency thing well i think social media kind of skews it a little bit because i think 99 of people present themselves on social media as an authority, even if it's not disingenuous.
42:46But it seems like that's the thing to do. If you're putting a post out there, you better know what you're talking about. You got to come from a place of I'm here. Maybe you're here in terms of this information. You don't have to. But then people do that and they're skipping the whole process of actually learning something outside of the posting about it. So I wasn't talking about the stuff I talk about until I'd spent years working on it for myself and mastering something like my lifestyle and routines and things that people might look up to me for. I'm not going to talk about that shit on day one.
43:19I'm learning it. Once you know, then you can be in a place of authority. But I think people think they have to do that too early. Everyone is a life coach or something on Instagram. It's kind of respecting and honoring the stage that you're in and recognizing that if the end goal is there, the pursuit of you showing up, being open and honest with where you're at, and you're documenting progression towards that thing, you're actually bringing people on a journey as opposed to just showing up as someone that you're not. Which to be quite honest with you, I wish I did more of on my way to where I am now.
43:57Yeah. You know what I mean? Because we've talked about this plenty, but for me personally, I look back and I go, man, I was focused so heavily on what I'm saying that nobody even knows who is saying it. Nobody even knows who I am because I'm not prioritizing personality and bringing life to what I'm saying. I'm just trying to have the most airtight message possible. And then it ruins the whole point because you can go on chat GPT and say hey give me some dope ass inspiration the reason it's valuable is because it's coming from somebody that you can connect with and go oh man this is a real freaking person and I just skipped out on that whole thing for too long so yeah it's uh it's a good message dude so we never answered the question of what we actually do for training oh yeah um you are just entering a strength building phase where you're trying to put on some strength aren't you are trying to lift heavy yep that's what you're doing yep the actual specific thing if the goal is physique right like and you're an amateur it actually doesn't really fucking matter i think you actually just need to get in the gym for the first part and get moving but i think ultimately right is it's for me i look at it as going like the progressive overload on the compound movements is probably going to be responsible for like 80 of all your gains and so you could literally go into the gym on a chest day do a bench press and one accessory and you're fucking good probably lift heavy make sure you get stronger every week progressively overload the weight and then eat fucking good and you'll probably be pretty damn good yeah it's it's not that over complicated i mean i think the reason i started ranting about the skill based stuff is because i mean right now Monday would be a gym leg day and sprinting.
Read the full transcript
45:47Tuesday would be jujitsu and then an upper body lift. Wednesday would be the second upper body lift. Thursday would be jujitsu and maybe a swim or a run. Friday is legs again. And then Saturday is full upper body. Sunday is rest. I'm just trying to get good at a lot of things at once. And so that's skill based though, right? It's like, It's actually not just to look good. Yeah, exactly. I want to be able to kick anyone's ass if necessary, but that takes years. I'm not there yet, but for me right now, it's volume management because you can just get injured if you get too excited, which is too excited is my middle name.
46:34See, I think for me at the moment, I'm doing probably four days in the gym a week. Yeah. I think when I was getting properly strong and looking very good, I was only doing three days a week following Gregor Gallagher's programming. I was just lifting heavy. And I did a back day one day, a chest day one day, a push day, a pull day, and then a leg day. That was all I was doing. And I got in so good shape. So I think the extreme training is not necessary. yeah it's more about it comes into mental benefits uh the feel-good effects that you get the endorphins you get from actually training um you know the emotional benefit you get of feeling good about yourself for actually training as well and doing something nice for yourself i think it's a massive pillar to all of it yeah um and so i think three strength sessions to build that dream body and eat fucking good and maybe walk a bit and get some steps in yeah um But like actually to feel good stuff, to train every day, get the body moving, get the heart rate up, sweat.
47:45Yeah. Like these are all things that like you can't quantify just with how your pecs look. If you're going to do the bare minimum in terms of quantity, you got to do the maximum in terms of consistency. So if you're going to do three times a week, they should be good workouts. If you're going to do three times a week, your diet should be great. if you're going to do three times a week you should be sleeping amazing you know what i mean it's it's it's much easier to have room you know wiggle room if you're doing it more frequently and then less frequency it's just got to be higher quality so again it's never that complicated
48:36yeah i think it's it's interesting understanding the phase that you're in if you're an amateur literally just showing up yeah and doing anything lifting some weight you can gain a lot i kind of look at these areas of progression toby pierce taught me this it fucking blew my mind um what he said was as you increasingly become better at a particular thing the less you can improve at that thing so a lot of us our happiness is tied to how much we can progress so the amount of progression in the early days is far greater so we can enjoy doing something a lot more the problem with that though is as you progress towards mastery the less you can progress yeah so if your happiness is tied to progression and the goal is mastery it's a very slippery slope because the more you progress towards the goal of mastery the less you're going to enjoy the pursuit of doing the thing and so it becomes a consistency player if you're starting out it's extremely motivating when you see after two weeks you're already looking so much better you feel way stronger but then you hit a wall and you plateau this is probably this area where you now go fuck i'm actually not progressing and i'm not enjoying this so then I slack off and so it's this ability to go yes you can stick to the gym when you're an amateur for the first few weeks because it's very exciting but then as soon as you plateau and you don't really know how to get over that hurdle your ability to keep going through that little lull is how you break through that to then build up the habit and the routine of the actual lifestyle of going to the gym as opposed to just going there to progress yeah I mean hopefully by that point it's either you slack off or you've figured out what discipline is you know what i mean so what do you mean by that well i ideally by the time the motivation wears off and you're not really excited about it anymore you have built that habit yeah and then you just go because you know you're supposed to but you know the the the thing is is it's getting in shape is not impressive keeping the shape is yeah like having a six-pack isn't impressive having a six-pack all year round is impressive because what it shows is the lifestyle that you have not the diet that you're on it's true i think my memory serves me which sometimes it does i think you mentioned the concept you just talked about in the um probably the beep test video when you first came here oh the progressive thing remember the uh yeah yeah challenge thing that we did yeah yeah i think i think i remember you mentioning that quote or that concept because i changed the game for me bro i don't know if i could remember the term then uh but a mathematical term for an equation that consistently approaches zero but never quite gets there or approaches a number but never quite gets there is an asymptote if you're looking at a graph and the line goes like this and then eventually flattens out and flattens out and keeps on going it essentially is getting closer and closer to zero it never hits zero but genuinely keeps getting closer so it's kind of the same exact thing i wish i had a better explanation for it but it's it's a mathematical term it's kind of the exact same thing well i look at it if we flip it on the other way right say we have a box and all the box has these little cubes in it right there's only so many cubes that can fit in the box yeah that's the net available information of the specific thing yeah yeah and as we progress we might be able to in the first say in the first two years of doing that thing we might be able to fill up 90 of that box yes but then for the next decade after that two years it might take to fill up the other 10%.
52:29So we have 90 % of the box filled up of information that we've onboarded in the first two years, but then to get the other 10 % and we'll take another decade. And so the thing is there is the more we're progressing towards filling up the box, the harder it is to fill it. Yeah. So this asymptote thing is basically saying you hit that 90 and then you have that last 10. you never actually get the last 10 you get 9.9 9.99 0.99999 and it never ever hits the top because you can't have all of it you know what i mean so that's that's kind of the uh it's kind of the thing maybe we'll pop up a little asymptote graph on the video yeah yeah fuck yeah dude that was terrible bro okay dude good chats good lifts i enjoyed that i think we doubled in size right yeah all right good deal i love it appreciate you bro close your eyes exhale feel your body relax and let go of whatever you're carrying today well i'm letting go of the worry that i wouldn't get my new contacts in time for this class I got them delivered free from 1-800-CONTACTS.
