In short
Week 1 NFL reactions and overreactions, focusing on standout teams/players, coaching decisions, and early MVP/standings implications.

Rich Eisen and Chris Brockman (hosts of Overreaction Monday). No other guests named in the transcript.
Key claims
- New York Giants are the best NFC East team and legitimate NFC contenders, led by QB Jackson Dart.
- MVP top tier: Trevor Lawrence, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson (possibly Caleb Williams/Burrow later).
- Bears offense looks capable of breaking Denver’s 2013 points record (after a 59-point pace); Caleb Williams and DeAndre Swift had big games.
- 49ers are “team to beat” in the NFC (but it’s early).
- Raiders looked strong; Ashton Gentry’s breakout is a major positive.
- Bengals defense looked better than offense; defense won vs Tampa via four turnovers.
Notable examples
- Giants vs Cowboys: strong defensive showing; Malik Nabors strong; Odell Beckham Jr. not a factor.
- Josh Allen: multiple passing/rushing TDs; 36 points vs Texans.
- Bears: 59-point discussion; Swift 3 rushing TDs, 124 yards.
- Kyler Murray injured; Carson Wentz led Vikings comeback.

But unfortunately, many of these football lovers don't live in the same city as their team. Which is why Marriott Bonvoy has hotels close to nearly every NFL stadium. Bringing fans closer to the teams they love with over 30 different hotel brands. So if you want to stay closer to your team, check in for game day with Marriott Bonvoy, the official sponsor of the NFL. We'll see you there.
0:35Rich Eisen:It is time for a week one, 2026 National Football League edition of Overreaction Monday presented by Marriott Bonvoy. Check in for game day with Marriott Bonvoy, the official sponsor of the NFL. Oh, baby. We got actual regular season games to talk about. Oh, it was so good. Rich Eisen, Chris Brockman, and you. I like you a lot. There's no time for pleasantries. Okay, good. Hit it. That was terrible. That was crap. That was garbage. This place sucks. Overreaction. Mondays. Monday. No offense, right? Of course, none taken. Okay, very good. None taken. All right, Chris. What do you have? Let's get to it.
1:19Chris Brockman:Dude, I could start five different places. I know you could. On Sunday. But, Rich. Let me guess. Cowboys. We got to start. You too. We got to start on Sunday night in the Meadowlands.
1:29Rich Eisen:First of all, it's the most recent game in terms of this taping and recording. Secondly, it was eye-opening. It was. And so just in case everybody's out there, oh, gosh, you know, you guys are on Disney Plus. Oh, gosh, you guys are, you know, on ESPN2 or maybe ESPN News, whatever, Disney this, Disney. Yeah, whatever you're saying. I get it.
1:51Chris Brockman:Yeah, uh-huh.
1:51Rich Eisen:But this is whatever you're about to say is a legitimate starting point.
1:54Chris Brockman:And by the way, it's not about the Cowboys. Okay. It's not about the Cowboys. It's about the G-Men. It's about the G-Men. Okay, what do you have? Led by Jackson Dart, who was awesome. He was. He was sensational. He was. The Giants are the best team in the NFC East and legit NFC contenders.
2:12Rich Eisen:Okay. The first part I don't think is an overreaction. The best team in the NFC East. is entirely possible. NFC contenders, let's see what happens when one week from today, we're recording overreaction Monday about the bulk of week two activity, waiting to see how the Giants follow this up on Monday Night Football against a well-rested, albeit minus Miles Garrett. Depleted. In that one regard, but really angry, really pissed off, highly talented, NFC contending Los Angeles Rams team. Okay, so let's see that. All right, we do have to see it again because I'm sorry to make it about the Cowboys here, but I am so patently disappointed by that defensive performance.
3:11Rich Eisen:I am so patently disappointed by that. They were terrible. Now, the offense, the greatest offense there is, as Dak referred to it, in a way it's the anacronym of gati which is interestingly enough debuted in new jersey of course you know and you know they it got buried like somebody maybe in the parking lot all right so the giants defensively are big and strong they're like i was looking at it with Abdul Carter and Arvel Reese and Tremaine Edmonds and, you know, Brian Burns, they're like the Monstars of Space Jam. You know, like they're big, they're fast, they're strong. And if healthy and well-coached, that's something to behold.
4:04Rich Eisen:Offensively, we do need to see how they can do it again. The good news is Malik Nabors looked strong and got stronger. Odell Beckham Jr. wasn't even a factor, and we're going to assume he's going to be at some point. Isaiah Likely and Patrick Ricard, the two Ravens that John Harbaugh brought from Baltimore, were absolutely factors and have transformed things. He's their number two receiver. Well, it takes pressure off of Dart to have a run game and certainly Ricard potentially protecting in the passing game. It helps Dart. And on top of all of that, how well coached they were. I mean, they did show a shot of Matt Nagy and Greg Roman, two of the more seasoned, but also highly maligned coaches on the offensive side of the ball in places like Chicago, San Francisco, here in Los Angeles with the Chargers.
5:09Rich Eisen:Different story on that regard, too, about how their offense looked in week one and supposedly were going to look better. But well-coached where, you know, many times you heard Collinsworth, they just follow Patrick Ricard, and that's where they're running, until the fourth quarter where they ran him one way and then ran Scadaboo the other way. They are very well-coached. They were very well-coached up.
5:30Chris Brockman:Also, they seemingly ran the same play three, four times in a row. Dallas couldn't stop it.
5:35Rich Eisen:Well, that's another thing about Dallas's defense, which is leading me back to this point at home here, which is legit NFC contenders. I need to pump the brakes on that one. But in terms of the best team in the East, what they just did to Dallas, why can't they do that to Philadelphia? And the commanders, you know, did show up in week one against Philadelphia and almost pulled one off. But the Giants, I didn't, just looking at the four teams in the NFC East in week one, the Giants were as stout as any of them, if not the best in terms of a week one performance from their weapons and the coaching staff and their conditioning that we were all talking about, John Harbaugh putting them in pads.
6:21Rich Eisen:Dart was very efficient, led the team in rushing. Actually didn't, the number of times that he was running, I didn't think he was in danger either. Was not reckless. He appeared to be in control. So I'll say half proper reaction, half overreaction. What else do you have?
6:37Chris Brockman:All right. I want to group because three teams, their offensive performance on Sunday was eye-opening, but also like, okay, here we go. And so I'm going to group them all together and say this. The top three in MVP voting this year will be Trevor Lawrence, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson in some order.
6:59Rich Eisen:You're missing one in terms of offensive performance. Oh, we're going to get to them in a second. It's Caleb. So, I mean, if you can talk about MVP voting this year in some order, top three, obviously Burrow could crash this party because the deep, but listen, listen. What game were you watching? I was watching that game. The defense, if Burrow gets more efficient, We're going to talk about the Bengals. Don't worry. I'm just saying the party could be crashed. I mean, I know that this show just puts everything in just a week-to-week box. That's why it's called Overreaction Monday. And I'm here to, you know, pin the needle the other direction.
7:40Rich Eisen:I don't think this is an overreaction. I did also say prior to the season Josh Allen was going to be the MVP of 2026. And he 1 ,000 % played like it. And I'll just give you one stat here. because also Lamar and this offense, Zay Flowers at 150 yards receiving before at the end of the day, he got a soft tissue injury that hopefully will not linger. But I do have a stat for Josh Allen and how impressive he was, along with Trevor Lawrence doing what he did. I mean, his hair was also in postseason form. His shampoo and conditioning, remarkable. Ninth career game with multiple pass and rushing touchdowns.
8:22Rich Eisen:That's five more than the next closest player. His name is Steve Young. Two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns is remarkable because he had 303 passing. He now has 303 passing and rushing touchdowns in his career combined, most by any player in his first nine seasons. He's the only one now to be in the 300-such combined touchdown club. He's unbelievable in terms of what he's done in the past and what he's already done and what he did to the Texans defense. 36 points, most in a game that the Bucs have given up, and they allowed just 30 points in just one game all of last season. That's it.
9:02Rich Eisen:It's the most they've given up since 2023. That DJ Moore move looks pretty good today, too. Not too bad. So I don't think this is an overreaction. Oh, okay. But I think Caleb could crash the party if they keep putting up the numbers like what we saw in Carolina.
9:17Chris Brockman:Well, then let's do it. Let's talk about the Bears real quick, because the Bears, Ben Johnson said it. He said it's a goal this season, and they're going to do it. The Bears are going to break the Broncos' 2013 total points record.
9:31Rich Eisen:I mean, we were sitting in the NFL Network screening room watching this game. And by the way, for you gamblers out there, the over hit with three minutes to go in the first half. Yeah, I'm aware. Okay. um so we're sitting there watching is it possible that if the bears score here to get 58 points they go for two that ben johnson would in fact go for two and the mere fact that that even crossed our minds right that it wasn't just my mind it was like it was cooper my 15 year old who came to work with me yesterday. And that's just a 15-year-old who might think that. But like the Matrix, my brain was attached to everyone else in the room and everyone else in the room to me.
10:28Rich Eisen:We were like wondering for a split second. It just all kind of looked like. There was a moment in time where we were all holding our collective breaths to see, will the place kicker run out there? And I bring this up just to say that in football, college professional that in order for you to win your coach has to be just a little bit crazy right just a little bit off just like it and in a good way in a good way okay right in a good way there's obviously bad crazy well i mean he went for it on fourth down early in this game Unlike their own 25 or whatever. But it doesn't matter if you're going to put a 60-burger on somebody.
11:14So I can't sit here and say, listen, this is an overreaction.
11:21Rich Eisen:I can't do that. There are also 59 points on the way down this path.
11:28Chris Brockman:They might have to score this every week the way their defense is.
11:31Rich Eisen:Well, that's, again, the whole shutouts, the blowouts and shutouts. Yeah. Blowouts, we got. Right. Shutout, not so much. So we'll see. You know, their next game is against Carson Wentz, most likely, in Minnesota.
11:47Chris Brockman:Minnesota.
11:48Rich Eisen:And that defense, a little bit better, one would think, than Carolina's.
11:52Chris Brockman:Yeah, I mean, Jordan Roth did throw up a three-way spot.
11:55Rich Eisen:Carolina added Devin Lloyd and Jalen Phillips to a front seven, which is what caused me to think, okay, Carolina can win this game. And it looked like, you know, it was going to be whoever has the ball last. a la Bills Texans would have a chance to win. Not so much. So I can't sit here and say this is an overreaction. I can't wait to watch how it moves from here, though. Yeah.
12:20Chris Brockman:Two things, too. Colston Loveland, zero catches. What? I know. Guy was going third tight end in every fantasy draft. You see 59 points in all those yards. And then afterward, did you hear Caleb Williams went up to Dave Canales and was like, you guys got a great defense. Like, what? He's just trying to be nice, man. I mean, I know he meant it, but man.
12:39Rich Eisen:Here's a good one. Caleb Williams and DeAndre Swift, who, by the way, had three rushing touchdowns and 124 yards. First Bears player with that stat line in a single game since Rashaan Salam in 1995. But Caleb also had multiple rushing touchdowns. First time in his career he had that. the last time the Bears had two players with two or more rushing touchdowns in a game and by the way Mononga almost scored for a second time too the last time the Bears had a duo with two or more rushing touchdowns in a game Neil Anderson and Jim McMahon in the season opener as well of 1988 88. So yeah, that's not an overreaction.
13:29Rich Eisen:Bears fans. What else you got?
13:31Chris Brockman:Rich. I want to take this all the way back to last Thursday. Although I think it was Friday somewhere. I'm confused. I need to watch that Kyle Shanahan video again. The 49ers are the team to beat in the NFC. Oh,
13:42Rich Eisen:that's you're way ahead of your yourself right now.
13:46Chris Brockman:You don't think they're the best team in the NFC. All the games we watched on Sunday. I know the two openers, but I'm,
13:52Rich Eisen:I, I understand you put it in an overreaction Monday box. I'm looking down the road. Come on. Listen, the Seattle Seahawks are still in this division period. Without a quarterback. I think in week one with the NFC South all being 0-1, we can remove them from this equation that no matter how well the Saints played in the final throws of that game in the fourth quarter in Detroit, with that wild Jared Goff call that went against the Saints and took a defensive touchdown off the board. We're in the matrix.
14:26Chris Brockman:We're going to talk about the South.
14:27Rich Eisen:Okay. So we can remove them. Let's see how the Bears play defensively. Correct? Right?
14:34Chris Brockman:They gave up almost 40 points.

14:36Rich Eisen:And I know you're looking at the NFC East and you're like, yeah, they didn't look like the Niners did against the Rams. Nope. I still need to hold this in abeyance that they're the team to beat in the NFC. i just do wow okay honestly it's too early to start crowning teams as the team to beat you know september even steve young himself talking about the niners that if you overlook them he called you stupid sam donald let's just break this down sam donald's out what at least a month right we're assuming yeah two weeks is what ian rapaport said on game matt stafford looks
15:13Chris Brockman:kind of washed and no miles garrett and aaron donald's probably like really i came back for
15:18Rich Eisen:this i'm not as conditioned as matthew stafford i don't play football like matthew stafford i don't arizona looks like i don't do what i do for a living like matthew stafford and i'm not matthew stafford's age i'm one day into waking up for game day morning in the middle of the morning You feel washed? I feel washed. That dude flew to Australia, damn near 40 years old. I don't care how well conditioned he is. He's also a father of four. Can we cut the man some slack? No, this is what he signed up for. You had to take an 18-hour flight at age 40, leaving four kids and a wife at home, and quarterback against Fred Warner.
16:00Rich Eisen:I mean, that's a vacation. With no rest. With four kids at home. Get your rest, sleep a few hours, wake up and get chased around by Nick Bosa. Get out of here, man. I'm not going to make any statements about this right now. Interesting. Overreaction. Many people's first serious relationship didn't start with a kiss. It started with a kickoff. Or perhaps it was love at first hike. But unfortunately, many of these football lovers don't live in the same city as their team, which is why Marriott Bonvoy has hotels close to nearly every NFL stadium, bringing fans closer to the teams they love with over 30 different hotel brands.

17:19Rich Eisen:Come on, man. Christopher? That was only halftime read. Halftime read, baby. What do you got?
17:26Chris Brockman:We were all waiting for this debut. You curious what it would look like in the system. New weapons. And it went terribly. And Kyle Murray left the game with an injury to cushion after throwing an interception on his first throw. You're like, well, what was that?
17:39Rich Eisen:That was, by the way, I don't know what it's brutal to throw. That was a chuck and duck. Yep. You know, the hope for the best. I think I'm getting it out of bounds or throwing a 50 50 ball. I don't know what he was thinking.
17:51Chris Brockman:but in maybe the weirdest game of Sunday, Carson Wentz led an epic Vikings come back and he should be the Vikings QB one moving forward. You know what? I,
18:03Rich Eisen:I, I don't disagree. I don't disagree. I don't think they're going to do that though. If Kyler clears concussion protocol, he will, I would be surprised if they're like, okay, we're going to go with Carson Wentz because we don't still know what Kyler Murray can do for us. That they still have a first overall drafted quarterback early stages of his career, relatively, on such an inexpensive contract that they have a true opportunity to see what's there. now then you're saying it's sacrificed on the altar of having a former number two overall drafted quarterback who has been kicked around all over the place, or has been kicking around all over the place, including banished from Indianapolis by the late dear departed Jim Ursae, who just didn't want to see Wentz's face anymore.
19:17Rich Eisen:Okay. And you're just hoping he's now got it. to the point where they can win football games and it doesn't matter anymore. J.J. McCarthy, Kyler Murray, doesn't matter if we drafted you in the first round ourselves and we have you on your first contract and we still need to see what we have in you or doesn't matter that you were drafted first overall by someone else and we have you on an inexpensive contract and we've got you now and we need to see what we have in you. That's all sacrificed on the altar of 2026 and we can win football games and a championship now with somebody like Carson Wentz and stranger magic carpet rides have been woven before.
19:56Rich Eisen:Just ask Justin Jefferson. Whatever he wants, that's the quarterback. I hear you. That said, I don't think this is an overreaction. I don't really think so, man, because at the end of the day, you've got an opportunity to maybe win games if, let's just say, short term, and then we'll move on here. Kyler Murray doesn't get out of the concussion protocol. Because some reports had him just knocked out cold.
20:24Chris Brockman:Yeah.
20:24Rich Eisen:I mean, it looked bad when it happened. Right. So let's just say Wentz goes into Chicago and wins that football game. And they're now 2-0 visiting Tampa.
20:39Rich Eisen:Therefore, you can start Wentz again and see what's up. Yep. And then if it begins to falter, you can then put Kyler back in saying he wasn't ready anyway. Sure.
20:55So we'll see.
20:57Rich Eisen:We'll see. Because it's in the ether right now.
21:00Chris Brockman:Wentz looked pretty good. What else you got? Higher register. You mentioned this earlier, so I want to hit it on a full-on topic. The NFC South went 0-4 yesterday, and they did not look good.
21:09Rich Eisen:But they also scored over 100 points combined. They did.
21:12Chris Brockman:Crazy stat. But nobody in the NFC South will finish over 500 this year. Nah, I think that's not true.
21:20Rich Eisen:I'll go over reaction right there. I will say to you, we'll find out if the Bengals' defense is actually opportunistic enough that it'll be more than just Baker and the Bucs who suffer at their hands, which I know is tough to grasp because it's a Bengals defense, right? We'll find out again. We'll see if this is a trend or this was just a one-off.
21:55Rich Eisen:But the way the Saints played in that fourth quarter and the way that Shuck was winging it around and the way that Olave was catching, the way that Vele, by the way, Olave and Vele. Olave and Vele. Is that a crime-finding duo? Nice. The two sons of Cagney and Lacey? Olavi and Vele? I mean, we've got to save these so we can push them on it for ourselves. I mean, I wouldn't be – and, you know, Chase Young was blowing up Goff and Cameron is still at it, you know? So I don't know. I'll say there's a chance that the Saints – I put my marker on them maybe. All right.
22:35Chris Brockman:We all had the Saints kind of as a sleeper early in the year. What else you got? All right. A few more. You know, week one, we got to empty the barrel here with these topics. You know, in 2011, Vince Young said, ha ha, dream team, right? Didn't work out well for the 2011 Eagles. And I feel like the Rams are headed that way. The Rams dream team is going to end up just like the Eagles version. That is a missed playoff. That's ridiculous. You know, the Eagles in 2011 started one and four. They were three and six. And they were four and eight before finishing eight and eight. And this Rams team has an Eagles like field.
23:09Rich Eisen:Here's the issue with Miles Garrett now being out for a month. Is that they kind of need Aaron Donald. And he's only going to play what?
23:20Chris Brockman:I don't know. Who knows, man? Is he going to play this week? Who knows? They need him against the Giants. Never thought I'd ever say that.
23:28Rich Eisen:They didn't have Garrett and didn't have Donald last year and almost made the Super Bowl. They did have verse though. Right. Now that will be the issue is where do they find the pass rush from? Cause they didn't have it in Australia. And I'll just say this. I need to see them play in their own time zone after sleeping in their own beds for the 48 hours before game. I'm going to hang my hat on that one, man, because I just look at how talented they are and cannot believe that team does not put enough wins together to make the playoffs. I just, I can't see it. I don't see it. Unless Stafford is suddenly completely washed.
24:15Rich Eisen:The running backs are good enough. The receivers are good enough. The tight end group is good enough. The pass rush, minus now Verse and Garrett and potentially Donald, needs to be better. But the back end of the defense is vastly improved. I just have to say the idea of going to Australia last minute and saying we're just going to keep our mental clocks where they are despite an 18-hour international dateline crossing trip just boggles the mind. And at the end of the day, the guy I'm going to just turn it over to on that front was, of all people, John McEnroe was on Friday's show apropos of nothing.
24:59Rich Eisen:we're previewing the u.s men's semifinals between shelton and tfo and he's just like by the way i've been australia 40 times i don't know what the hell the rams were thinking yeah that was funny you know like so okay really now the issue is will they somehow start two and two can they win two of their next three against a clearly improved giants team that's next up their only home date of the next three um and then they're at denver and at philadelphia that is a massive massive road trip before they're home for buffalo and then home for arizona which proved to be doesn't look like a cakewalk anymore and clearly arizona is very comfortable in sofi stadium so yeah i i don't believe they're gonna lose all of these they're good enough man

27:00Chris Brockman:I'm sure everyone expected us to start with them, but.
27:03Rich Eisen:Well, I mean, this was a very dated game in week one.
27:07Chris Brockman:It might as well have been last year based on all the action we saw Sunday. I like it. What else? A couple more. I really liked what I saw from Raider Nation, and they're not going to finish in fourth place in the AFC West.
27:24Chris Brockman:Man, if you waited and took Ashton Gentry in the second round, you are being rewarded today. Kirk Cousins was winging it.
27:34Rich Eisen:This is as much of a pump up the Raiders as it is of, you know, criticizing the chargers right of course uh-huh and that the chargers would be your your team that you pegged to finish fourth depending in advance of seeing how the chiefs look i don't know how the chiefs are gonna think the broncos are fourth place i don't think the broncos are a fourth place team i had and i had the chargers winning the division this is just as much of let's find listen i'll call this an overreaction because of two things one last year how about this stat okay how about this stat it's the raiders second straight season opening win okay of course i remember last year okay very well and how did it all go for p carroll and the raiders after that uh he's not the coach anymore right and then there's this stat as well that the Dolphins started multiple multiple rookies and new players on their team we have no idea what the hell they look like oh totally okay so we'll find out if this is the homecoming of NFL teams Miami correct yeah or you're right and the Raiders will wind up being better than DFL in the American football Western Conference.
28:58Rich Eisen:I don't know. American football conference. One week they look good. Western Conference. Ashton Gentry now has a second career 100-yard rushing game with two receiving touchdowns. He's got two of them. Would you believe the Raiders, as a franchise, have two of them? He's got both of them? He's got both of them. Marcus Allen never did that? Mm-mm. Wow. Now, third player since 1950 with multiple such games. The other two are named Brian Westbrook and Christian McCaffrey. And Ashton Gentry has done that in his first season plus one game. That is good company. And both of them have two. So if he does it again, he will be the only player since the mid-century of last century to do that.
29:45Rich Eisen:Improved offensive line. You knew he was going to look a little bit better. Listen, if Clint Kubiak can turn this guy into the next Christian McCaffrey, then he's the hire of the hires. Okay? But let's just pump the brakes a little bit and see what the Dolphins look like against other teams and what the Raiders look like moving forward. But they have to feel really good that that's what it looked like without Brock Bowers. Yes. And Max Crosby nearly took Malik Willis out of the stadium and across the street to where you got married. Oh.
30:16Chris Brockman:which is by the way
30:18Rich Eisen:not too far
30:20Chris Brockman:NFL is better when the Raiders are good and when you're married although the Patriots are 0-1 with you being married that's true maybe I should take this off no no no come on now talk about overreaction damn two utterly flabbergasted and disappointed and what the hell was that performances one in SoFi one in Minnesota by Green Bay and I gotta do it Jim Harbaugh and Matt LaFleur are already on the hot seat you texted that in the chain yesterday
30:57Rich Eisen:get out of here with that nonsense
30:59Chris Brockman:do you think Packer fans
31:00Rich Eisen:Jim Harbaugh is not in a hot seat really?
31:04Chris Brockman:all I heard was look at this offense it's gonna be unlocked I gotta get Harbaugh to the Hall of Fame what the hell was that?
31:14Rich Eisen:great question I don't know. I don't know. I mean, just listening to the game, Trent Green's like, it's a timing offense. Well, the timing was off. I do not know what the hell that was. But didn't I tell you that I wouldn't choose them in my survivor pool? By the way, I took them in one of mine. I pegged Jacksonville as the survivor pool. Yeah, that was. I was in a rocking chair from jump.
31:39Chris Brockman:I mean, probably, what, 25 % of survivor pools were knocked out yesterday?
31:43Rich Eisen:Well, the one that we're in, right? as invited by Vinny Pasquantino into Bobby Witt Jr. Now, one Bobby Witt had the Chargers. Does he have two or is one his dad? I don't know. I was asking Cooper. I'm like, what do you think? Is it his dad or does he have two entries? One of them had the Chargers. Listen. It was bad. I hear you. They're not on the hot seat.
32:07Chris Brockman:Rich, here we go. And can we put up the Chargers schedule? They're not already on the hot seat now. Yes, they are. Put up the Chargers schedule. where are the wins coming if they play like that they could start oh and eight there are no wins if they play like that i mean that was terrible that was terrible where are the wins at one point
32:24Rich Eisen:at one point herbert uh herbert was running for his life again and he had his two and i know and and dude they should beat vegas they should beat vegas already and and and and the previous segments topic bar of the fact that Vegas is going to finish above the Chargers in the standings.
32:45Chris Brockman:And Ladidi was getting fed and then he got wrecked.
32:48Rich Eisen:Seattle, home for Denver at Kansas City. They best get the timing up and running.
32:53Chris Brockman:Yeah.
32:54Rich Eisen:But I'll tell you, the one who will be on the hot seat more is Mike McDaniel. That's the one who will be on the hot seat more. Not in terms of being axed by the Chargers, but this is his pathway back to being a head coach. Yeah. So, yeah. Jim's not – I mean, there's no – get out of here with that nonsense. If they go 6-11 this year? It'll be a disappointment to step back, and they're not going to fire him and then see who else they potentially have to lead the comeback. Come on now. It'll be highly disappointing. And then, again, Matt LaFleur is the fourth quarter. He went for it on fourth down.
33:29Rich Eisen:He kicked a field goal, took the points off the board because of an offside. Yeah, took the points off the board. And had a fourth and short, went for that, and that backfired. and he had no idea that it was all going to just roll downhill on him after that.
33:40Chris Brockman:Why take the points out of the way? You're up eight. Yeah, I hear you.
33:45Rich Eisen:Or, listen, you were criticizing, and rightfully so, in our text chain, Brian Schottenheimer not going up for it on fourth and inches at the very beginning of the game. Like you begin your 2026, Gotti, we're much better than you on offense and defense season with a capitulation.
34:01Chris Brockman:Fourth and inches, and you just try to hard count him? I got it.
34:04Rich Eisen:This is an overreaction. Let's move on. What else? All right. Last one. Oh, baby. What a last one.
34:09Chris Brockman:Last one. And you teased it a couple of times. So let's just hit it. The Bengals defense is a better unit than their offense. All right. That's an overreaction as well. How does Jamar Chase have 12 yards? That one? I don't know. Joe Burrow did not look good. Did not look good, man. I don't know. They came out with a win. That may say more about Tampa. Well, I think they forced some turnovers.
34:32Rich Eisen:Just because the defense, just because listen. Listen, this is why football players can't stand shows like this.
34:39Chris Brockman:Of course.
34:40Rich Eisen:Okay? Now, understand, this is a construct. It is. This is a construct called Overreaction Monday. But here we are saying, what's wrong with the Bengals? Can we get Joe Burrow some defense, please, so he doesn't have to do it all by himself? It's been to him for years. And they finally come up with some moves that appear to be the right ones. And in the first game of the season, the defense actually bails out Burrow and the offense. Four turnovers. The defense actually wins the game for Cincinnati.
35:21Chris Brockman:Exactly.
35:21Rich Eisen:And you're now saying this is a sign of a problem for the Bengals. Because they're now a better unit. Joe Burrow, keep up with your defense. Oh, my God. That is fantastic. I mean, sometimes I marvel at the way your brain works. And I'm so glad that I have you as a colleague and a friend and an integral member along with everybody else here of Rich Eisen Productions. Because I don't think that way. And I'll be sitting at my desk doing the show, and I'll look at all of our competitors, and I'll look at the topic bars and I'm like, how the hell do you think of that take? Just celebrate the fact that the Bengals got a good game out of their defense and that in a game that ordinarily they would have been blown out in.
36:15Chris Brockman:Oh, yeah.
36:16Rich Eisen:Blown out. And we'd be like, what's wrong with the Bengals? Zach Taylor's on the hot seat. Burrow's going to want out because it's not his fault. Now you're like, boy, Bengals are in trouble because the defense is better than their offense. Get out of here, man. Get out of here. And by the way, the play that sealed it was a burrow to T. Higgins throw for a first down that was a dart, only could be caught by Higgins, and he made an all-world grab. Chase Brown looked as fast and as difficult to take down as ever. P. Ryan made some first downs. Yeah, and you know who was pissed yesterday? Jamar Chase.
36:54Rich Eisen:I don't even have Jamar Chase. and I'm pissed for him. This is a fantasy thing. I don't even have it. Overreaction. My God. What a, you know what that was also? That was the fireworks show at the end of a great time for you and your family. Yeah. That was it. Much cheaper than paying for actual fireworks.
37:14Chris Brockman:You're welcome.
37:14Rich Eisen:All right. That's it for this edition of Overreaction Monday. We are one week into the books. So back. Marcus Spears on the Monday Rich Eisen show, flagship show, to talk about so much more than all of this. Josh Pate and Cam Hayward in their usual Tuesday spots. Cam Hayward 1-0 as a Steeler. You didn't even talk about the Steelers. I didn't. All right. Well, they didn't look that good. But we'll do that on Tuesday's show. Josh Pate as well. Warner's Wednesday. Warner Wednesdays as well. Kurt Warner. That's how you roll with the Rich Eisen show every single football week this season. Thank you for taking this in, whether you're watching on our YouTube channel or listening wherever you get your podcasts.
37:53Rich Eisen:For Chris, I'm Rich. That's it for Overreaction Monday, presented by Marriott Bonvoy.
38:04Chris Brockman:Nationwide is so much more than a great insurance company. They're one of America's largest financial services companies, just like I'm so much more than quarterback Peyton Manning. I'm also Peyton Manning. Insurance and financial services together, it's a masterpiece. Payton Manning does it again. For your insurance and financial needs, Nationwide is on your side.
