In short
The Rich Eisen Show (Hour 3) discusses AFC North predictions and Cleveland Browns quarterback development, then shifts to PLL lacrosse. On the NFL side, the hosts debate why Cleveland might keep Shadour Sanders despite limited reps, arguing quarterback development is hindered by lack of practice “reps,” citing Mike Vrabel’s comments about Will Levis not getting enough time to get up to speed. They also discuss how injuries force teams to rely on backups, and whether the NFL should partner with developmental leagues like the UFL.
Notable examples
Flacco looking like the starter; Kenny Pickett sitting injured; Snoop Huntley getting two-minute work before being cut; Anthony Richardson’s injury risk.
Key claims
Browns finish last; Ravens win the division; Steelers make playoffs; Bengals’ defense issues hurt them.
Guests
Chris Cavanaugh and Ryder Garnsey, attackmen for the California Redwoods, who face the Denver Outlaws in PLL semifinals Sept. 1. Ryder is an assistant coach at Notre Dame; he has deep history with the Cavanaugh family. Chris is playing against his brother Pat.

Live from the Rich Eisen Show studio in Los Angeles. How about these cyclones? Earlier on the show. Two-time Emmy Award winning actor, Eric Stonestreet. Actor, Josh Duhamel. Coming up. California Redwoods attack men, Chris Cavanaugh and Ryder Garnsey.
1:31And now it's Rich Eisen. That's right.
1:36Rich Eisen:Hour three. Howard had a fun first two hours. Eric Stone Street, hour one. And then Josh Duhamel in studio, hour two. One celebrity after another. And then we got two of the best from PLL action. Chris Cavanaugh and Ryder Garnsey of California Redwoods. They're attack men getting set to attack the Denver Outlaws in the PLL semifinals. coming up on Labor Day for the right to play in the championship. Chris is a Commanders fan. Ryan's a Commanders fan, by the way. Chris, I just met in the green room with Ryan. Ryder, pardon me. Do you know the team that Chris roots for? I don't. Take a guess. Patriots?
2:15Rich Eisen:Nope. TJ? Cowboys? That guy, give the New Jersey guy a win. I can't see you right now, Rich, but I see you like you're a Jets. It's okay, Jets. Come on. You know where Rich was going. Chris looks sad. Oh. Why? Because he's a Jet fan. So at least he was seeming to me. I can sense the pain. You can feel it? Yeah, you know, it's sort of, you know, I'm not going to go full six cents here. I can feel it. Because that's kind of a spoiler alert. Right. You see ghosts? I don't know, man. The Jets preseason. Was not inspiring. Excuse me. They went to Green Bay, and they put a beat down. Then their final two was they got dogged in the Snoopy Bowl.
2:58Rich Eisen:And then who knows? I mean, preseason game, number three, nobody was playing. No, nobody. Unlike the Chiefs. I can't believe that. Again, the Chiefs went out there and just played the ones for three series. I know. And they looked amazing. They're trying to send a message. Touchdown, field goal touchdown. The defense was creating problems for Caleb, who did get a nice drive into Roma Dunze before the end of the half and then ended their preseason on an up note. And certainly the ride home was better, thanks to the arm wrestler, you know, Baygent getting it done. At any rate, the Cleveland Browns played everybody, except Kenny Pickett, a quarterback.
3:45Rich Eisen:Kenny didn't play a lick during the preseason because of an injury. Flacco looked terrific. You saw that. I mean, you see why Flacco's the starter. Yeah. End of story. Dylan Gabriel looked good. You know, he did. He had some good times there. And Shador had his worst outing of the preseason, without question. Now, the question is, is it because of Shador, or is it because he's playing behind or with a bunch of guys that are going to get cut? And then when it came time for the two-minute drill, he took him out and they put in Snoop Huntley, who they proceeded to then cut the next day. So I don't know.
4:25Rich Eisen:They wanted to give Snoop a little solid. Appreciate you coming here. Here's some two-minute tape for you to show for your next employer. That must have been it, right? I guess. Because why else? I don't know. Because you know the narrative. The narrative is the Browns are just trying to do Shador dirty. They did him dirty in the draft, even though they drafted him. And then they needed him dirty throughout the, you know, training camp season where we hear this is that, the other thing not doing too well. And then he goes out and he balls out against Carolina. It looks amazing. And then they pulled him after a long-ass day of preseason.
5:03Rich Eisen:But it looks like he's going to make the team. And Kevin Stefanski, probably the first time in his two-time coach of the year career, being asked, Why did you pull the fourth string quarterback for a two-minute drill? Yeah, obviously I don't concern myself with outside type of things. But, you know, I'm committed to his development, just like all of our rookies. So we'll continue to focus on getting our guys better. And that's what we'll stay committed to, and that's what's important to me. and did you I'm sure you kind of answered this last night but why why didn't you keep him in for the two minute or why did you decide to take him out yeah nothing more than decided to give Snoop uh some work at the end of the game there you go I honestly I think it sounds like you know let's give let's give Snoop some tape before right we cut him right I I was texting around with some of my colleagues about, hey, is Shador going to make the team?
6:08Rich Eisen:Every single one of them says he's absolutely making this team. And it's four quarterbacks, and it sounds weird because it is weird because you don't usually keep four quarterbacks on a 53-man roster. Somebody's going to be wearing pajamas every single week, and the point is, why? If you need an extra lineman, you need this, you need that. And that may change week one, week two. There's a rash of injuries. Somebody's going to get cut. And the question is, who's it going to be? And I'll just say this. because I hear this a lot. This is the reason why nobody drafted Shadour, because the coach, two-time coach of the year, is being asked, why didn't you put this kid in for the two-minute drill?
6:49Rich Eisen:And if you name any other person that could be third or fourth on the quarterback depth chart, nobody cares. Nobody's going to be talking about it. Somebody could have been pulled in the two-minute drill situation by their coach who's third or fourth on the depth chart. you don't hear it and this is now being this is why you don't bring in Shador that's why you didn't bring in Tim Tebow back in the day because it's a circus and when I hear that all I think of is if I'm part of a team that takes a kid like Shador or Tebow or name anybody who comes in Manziel right from back in the day although he was a first round draft choice but I think you're getting my drift.
7:32I always hear that and I think to myself, if I'm this coach of this team, I take
7:39Rich Eisen:this as an insult to me and my ability to coach and also remove distractions. I get insulted by that because it's him, you know, he chafed at the question and then he got a follow-up and he answered it and is he then going to leave the press conference he goes why don't we draft this again i can't believe i just got two questions and it took up 35 seconds of my day you know what i mean maybe i doubt it why but what's the big deal so you asked a question about it and he's talking about developing a quarterback and he's got a very good talented quarterback to develop i just don't know how you're going to develop that's the honestly distractions yeah screw the distractions screw the distractions it's not like this kid is like you know look at me and and i know you might push back and say he went up to the coach and had something to say i guess and i mean you're advocating for yourself like i want to show my two minute drill i i he might be sitting there thinking i'm gonna get cut so i need to go on out there and show you what i can do after a long ass day here i'm better in the two minute drill than what what i've been handed over the last few quarters here or I mean first few snaps here so you know I neither here nor there it's it's just four quarterbacks and if you think they're keeping him because his name is Sanders I think that's ridiculous they clearly see something in him I'm just concerned about how he's going to get developed and it's not just because it's a Cleveland thing because Stefanski this just in is really good at this thing you know 11 win seasons in Cleveland two of them and coach of the year like he knows what he's doing well where are you talking to was it Mike Vrabel a couple years ago when you asked him about in London about Will Levis and you know during the season these guys don't get any practice time if you're second or third string so that's that's the concern there if you're just going down that road real quick yes in reference to that it was a couple years ago in Vrabel's last year in Tennessee we were calling a game in London with the Titans being part of it and at the end of the broadcast meeting with the broadcast team with Vrabel the coaches meeting I asked him how Will Levis is doing and he basically said I don't know because we don't have the ability to get him up to speed we don't have the i'm paraphrasing we don't have the ability to reps marinate we don't have any ability to develop and i walked from that meeting to the practice field to watch the titans with kurt warner and kurt has very specific ideas on this sort of thing because part of the reason why he was able to go on the magic carpet ride in St.
10:39Rich Eisen:Louis when he had that opportunity dropped out of the sky by the football gods and the injury gods, much to the dismay of Trent Green, is because he played in the Arena League, but most importantly in Europe. And those are important reps. And for whatever reason, NFL ownership decided to not spend the money anymore on Europe. Now those also, those seeds that were planted in Europe are showing green shoots and massive returns right now with the crowds and the interest level over in Europe. I think for sure the fact that the NFL is as big in Europe as I personally have witnessed is because of, say, laugh all you want, Rheinfair, you know, Amsterdam Admirals who Kurt played for, Or the London Dragons, right?
11:34Rich Eisen:No. And for whatever reason, the NFL decided that's just not worth the bang for the buck or coming up with stabs and moving them over to Europe. What a massive, in my mind, wasted opportunity. Grow the sport and give your prospects a shot. I know there's injury concerns or whatever, but when is somebody like Shador or Dylan Gabriel going to get the opportunity to show a rep. They're going to get thrown into a game, and it's going to be potentially troubling. Name anybody that's going to be thrown in there. I mean, look at Anthony Richardson. How is he going to get any better? Mental reps? You really think that the NFL should partner with the UFL and make these into developmental minor league teams in a way?
12:26Have these guys play in the spring and get better.
12:29Rich Eisen:If I was a member of the National Football League, first of all, this whole team, all of us, we're not flying commercial. Thank you. I like that. Good to know. Air R-E-S. Now we're talking. Okay. You know what I mean? Warm chocolate chip cookies. I got you. I got you. I mean, I love that you go chocolate chip cookies. Hot towels, CJ. I mean. Warm nuts. Oh, yeah. Cheese platter. Mimosas. We're talking about the same thing, right? Yeah, of course. Cashews. I got you guys back. That's the headline. If I got those commas and zeros. But in terms of making the sport better, I would be pounding the table in every single one of these owners meetings and saying we have to do something about developing quarterbacks because they're for the grace of the injury gods.
13:21Rich Eisen:Any of us in this room, we got to. Like right now, Tanner McKee may not be available for Philadelphia, right? Week one. They're going to throw Sam Howell out there on Thursday night to kick off the season if Jalen Hurts gets dinged up for a second. Right? I mean, everybody is one play away from having a potentially highly unready quarterback ready. And you're spending all this capital on draft choices for quarterbacks and people's jobs are on the line. And I'll tell you who would appreciate that sort of thing would be the scouts whose jobs are on the line, the general managers and the coaches who make these decisions.
14:01Rich Eisen:I mean, with all due respect to Jackson Dart, how he has looked, has he thrown his last meaningful pass until his next? If and when he gets thrown in by the Giants against who knows whom? What's he going to do between now and then? I guess the virtual reality world can help. I don't know. But yeah, I mean, just to go down that road of quarterback development, I would start a new league. There's the U of L's right there. Just partner with that. It makes so much sense. But the issue is, too, the pushback I might get in the ownership room is like, so I draft somebody like Anthony Richardson top five.
14:39Rich Eisen:I should throw him out on the field in the spring. That's what I should do. I should throw him out on the field in the spring against a bunch of people that are absolutely trying to get a job in the NFL and might not be good enough and do something stupid, and then there goes his knee. there goes his shin, there goes this thing. Could happen anywhere at any time. I guess. I guess. But you have to develop quarterbacks. I don't know how they're going to do it. With any of these guys. Like, Shador's going to make the team outstanding. Good for him. Because, again, I don't believe that this is like a conspiracy theory that the Browns are keeping him just to, you know, snuff it all out.
15:18Rich Eisen:Right? That makes no sense. It's insane. But they're going to have him there. But he's not going to get any reps. I don't know how you're going to get him. Same thing with Dylan Gabriel, because at some point, if you're going to keep Pickett, that's the guy if Flacco goes down. He's the backup. Yeah. I mean, that's why you're keeping Pickett. Because you've got to give your team a shot for a season rather than just throwing to a raw rookie. They're going to trade one of those two, right? I don't know. Some of the rookies, they can't trade Pickett, because then you're going to have two rookie backups.
15:49Well, you saw. I bet Gabriel should do it.
15:52Rich Eisen:door because obviously someone's going to get hurt how about this one you saw um aiden o 'connell go down right yeah out six to eight weeks broken wrist if you're vegas do you take a shot we thought vegas was going to take shador to start now i know pete says we need somebody with experience he wants a veteran i don't blame him yeah i don't blame him but do you but that move brings somebody else up i mean do you take one of these kids why not what do you offer though nothing yeah seventh round pick six only if they're gonna cut them and they say they're not right what are those two are going to be on the different team by we shall see 844-204-rich is the number to dial before we bring out our our pll friends since we're talking about the cleveland browns we do this every year we back time it because we're really good at what we do or at least Mike Hoskins is because the rest of us forgot about it until he mentioned it to this morning to all of us literally this morning okay um hey there's eight divisions in the National Football League let's back time it from the start of the NFL season eight shows we've got eight shows to do until the kickoff of the National Football League season because we're off on Labor Day meaning a division today let's go we predict them start to finish top to bottom.
17:13Rich Eisen:See who at the end of the day gets it all right. One through four, every division. And we start with the American Football Conference Northern Division. I think I know who everyone is going to predict to win it. The rest of the order, and finish last. I think the question is who's two and three. You never know. We could be wild with this. Alright, well we'll see, because we're asking you to start, TJ Jefferson. I'm a wild boy. Let's predict it. Let's give some extra juice here. The AFC North. Who weighs it all the way down to four? We've got the AFC North coming in fourth. I've got the team who has four quarterbacks, and I think that's really no surprise.
17:51That's the Cleveland Browns. All right. We've got to see what's going on here. And who's first? First? Yeah. Well, that would be the Baltimore Ravens. Okay.
17:59Rich Eisen:Because, again, I think this is the issue is who's going to finish second and third, and that's a major question here. So you're the first up with this conundrum, sir. They say defense wins championships, right? I've heard that story. The thing about one of these teams is I don't know what's going on with their defense. They're going to score a lot of points again, but can they stop somebody? All right. The other team, they got an older quarterback. We don't know what's going to go on there either. But if I had to put some hard-earned American cash down on this, Chris, I'm going to say the Tomlin streak continues.
18:34Steelers finish at two, and the Ravens' defensive woes are going to get knocked down the third. The Bengals. I'm sorry. The Bengals defensive woes are going to kind of have them in third place there. So, yeah, Ravens, Steelers, Bengals, Browns bringing up the rear there.
18:50Rich Eisen:TJ Jefferson's AFC North predictions for 2025 brings us to Christopher Brockman. What we're saying is the AFC North, the Browns, and Ravens here are the R-S-T-L-N-E of the show. If we're not a little fortune. Okay. Those are just a given. Those are the given consonants and the one vowels. Now you can pick your other ones. Now you can pick your other ones. good one so yes ravens first max del tufo the vanna i think del tufo i think ravens are going to go to the super bowl this year and then cleveland they're going to be in the top five looking for a quarterback next season now i think that only one team from this division makes the playoffs so my order doesn't really matter much in the grand scheme of things i think both the bangles i have two and i'm on record saying the steelers season is going to be a disaster I think they're going to be three.
19:37I think the Tomlin streak is over. Roger's career is over. But ultimately, the Bengals' defensive issues are going to play out all season long. And no matter how awesome Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase and Tee Higgins and Chase Brown are, and they are awesome, it's not going to be enough to get them to the postseason.
19:54Rich Eisen:So you think it's only one team in the AFC North making the playoffs? Correct. You add that as window dressing to your Ravens, Bengals, Steelers, Browns finish. Yes, sir. And you think the Steelers season is such a wash that the Tomlin streak is over. Rodgers is definitely one and done. His career is finished. And you want to hit the final record? Because it's got to be under 500. Oh, yeah. Seven and ten. Yeah. I mean, six and eleven, seven and ten. Six and eleven. Yeah. I don't know, man. They've got some talented players on defense. They do, but they don't have enough offense to score. I don't know about that.
20:31Rich Eisen:Yeah. We'll see. Jalen Warren's going to get his shot. That's just my thoughts. I don't know. Could be wrong. I mean, rookie running back could do something. I don't know who their receivers are other than DK. Okay. Well, there's a guy named Roman Wilson from Team 144, the University of Michigan. I don't know. Steelers are great at finding wide receivers. They are. We'll see. Fire moves. And Johnny Smith. Under couch cushions, you know, around the corner. Stay by your phone, man. I may need you. Okay. We'll see. And I'm going to give you my AFC North predictions. I do believe the Ravens win it.
21:01Rich Eisen:I'm not ready to say they're making the Super Bowl. and I do believe the Cleveland Browns do finish last.
21:10Rich Eisen:Can they surprise? Obviously, but I just think it's that. And at the end of the day, the fact that Trey Hendrickson is not signed and that the Bengals defense, as much as you know how I've been talking about, don't let them in the tournament, Burrow, Chase, and Higgins and Chase Brown, exactly what you said. I just still think the Steelers are a better balanced team right now. And Rodgers, the fact that he's not being asked to do what he did in the last two years with the Jets, which is like, please show us the way. Please be the guy that everyone is looking to. He's kind of coming in in a different situation.
21:52Rich Eisen:And I think Tomlin and him are going to vibe along with Arthur Smith. He and Arthur Smith might grind some gears at some point. I think so. That might be an early October, mid-October, Steelers start 2-3, 3-4, late October report out of Western PA. But I think at the end of the day, though, the Steelers are too good, and I think they do make the playoffs again. And that will be an incredible January wildcard day When the Steelers take the field, can they finally win one for the first time in almost a decade? Can Rodgers make a run? What's going on? That's my prediction for the AFC North. So you and I are lockstep.
22:38Rich Eisen:Sympathetic. Okay, we are. And Chris switched it up. See, I knew it would be one and four is going to be the same. So what was the R-S-T-L-N-E-L-N-E? That was good. I liked it. I liked it. Did Sarah come up with that? Sorry, Mike, you lose a turn. I'm sorry, we're not asking you for your opinion. All right, let's bring our friends from PLL out here, Chris Cavanaugh and Ryder Garnsey of the California Redwoods. Come on out here. 25:06Rich Eisen:Good to see you guys. Thanks, Adams. Not to start off with something awkward, but I will. We had Trevor Baptiste here last week. He brought me a lacrosse stick for my son. you guys look empty-handed. Yes. That's all nice. Is that an awkward way to start off? You know, I think RJ said he's got something in the back of the car. We forgot it in the back of the car. Oh, so it's like a tire iron or something like that? What do you got in the back? Maybe some Redwoods merch. All right, I mean, I think the conversation is going to go up from here. They're not like I'm expecting anything, but I'm just saying, you know, Trevor kind of showed you up a little bit here.
25:48Rich Eisen:You know, I think your people threw you under the bus. Come on, RJ. I mean, come on now. Right now he's looking for something like, can I go run out and get something? 26:23Yeah, we've been texting a bunch, thinking about some pranks I got to pull on him, but I don't know, just not talk as much as we used to. Do you have like his cell phone passcode so you could set his alarm? No, I actually don't know his password. He doesn't share that information with me.
26:38Rich Eisen:I don't know. I mean, we can get O's the mentalist there, TJ. Maybe he can crack his phone for him. Easy work. Okay, you know, like he cracked your phone and that way you can just set his alarm for him the night before and just really mess with him. He's a wizard, guys. I'm telling you. There you go. I like it. We're going to get you a hotel room. I love all of the gameplay that's going on right now here in advance of the semifinals. Chris Cavanaugh and Ryder Garnsey are California Redwoods attackmen. They're taking on the Denver Outlaws in the PLL semifinals Monday, September 1st, and they're here in studio.
27:10Rich Eisen:So, Ryder, you are with the Notre Dame program, correct? Yes, sir. I'm one of the assistant coaches. You're one of the assistant coaches right now for lacrosse at Notre Dame. Very good. And you know Chris's bro? Like, you have some history with the Cavanaugh family, if I'm not mistaken? Yeah, so when I showed up on campus, I went to Notre Dame as well. I showed up in the fall of 15, and Chris's older brother, Matt, was our best player and captain, someone that I looked up to. So got to play with him for a year. Played with him on the Redwoods, actually, for three or four years. four um and and then chris and and his older brother pat showed up to campus a couple years later and i got the chance to coach them so uh long history with these guys how many brothers do you have how many uh one of six one of six five boys one girl one girl yeah right okay the princess of the family yeah um so there's matt there's pat and there's chris is every other name ryan with matt and pat kevin brendan colleen okay big irish family no i just didn't know if They went full Dr.
28:12Rich Eisen:Seuss in your house. I will play with Matt. I will play with Pat. Okay. And so you're playing against your brother. Pat's an MVP finalist right now. Yeah. It was pretty weird playing against him twice. Never played against him my whole career. Ever? It's weird rooting against him. Is your family come to these matches? Yeah, they'll be in Philly watching us. Okay. I'm going to have to get a split jersey for my mom. Okay. They're like the Mannings of the lacrosse world. right now, right? Pretty much? Is it an appropriate analogy or am I embarrassing you right now? I guess, but just play hard and hopefully win games.
28:50Rich Eisen:Where are you from? Where are you from? I'm from Long Island. Where on Long Island are you from? Rockville Center. Okay. What do you got for me there, Del Tufo? Are you focused on this sort of thing? Rockville Center, Long Island? Is that Nassau or is that Suffolk? Where are we? Nassau. Oh, I was going to have him flip a coin. He's not. He's from New Jersey. I'm from Jersey, but I've DJed in Long Island. Did you DJ on Long Island? Yeah. L.I. Exchange. Do you know this establishment ever? Long Island Exchange. L.I. L.I. Exchange. Okay. Long Island Exchange. He has no idea. No. You have no idea.
29:23Rich Eisen:Oh, this is way, this is where before you were. You know where Bayshore is? Thank you. Okay. Are you guys near Long Beach, by chance? Long Beach? Yeah. Yeah. I lived there. 20 minutes away. Okay. I lived there one summer. It was awesome. Did you leave anything there? Do you want the Cavanares to pick it up for you? I probably hung out with one of them. Okay. We can figure that out. And lacrosse, obviously huge on Long Island. Huge East Coast sport. Did you grow up basically with like a lacrosse stick in your hand or pretty much? Yeah, basically. Did your dad play or your mom play? My parents grew up in Queens.
29:50My dad played basketball and hockey. My mom played volleyball. So they didn't know what lacrosse was until they moved to Long Island. Okay. And then he just called us off the rest of the way. So we're playing lacrosse.
30:03Rich Eisen:Oh, man. Yeah. Okay. Do you want to work anything else out? Nah, we're all good. We're all good. You get it all out there. Okay, very good. So you know his whole family pretty much, right? Yeah, at this point, pretty close with all of them. All right, how's the Notre Dame program looking? Good. You know, we ran out of Cavanaugh's, so we've got to go back to the recruiting trail. September 1st is actually a big day for us on the recruiting side of things. That's the first day that we can talk to juniors. So we'll hopefully win our semifinal game and then throw that, build a little momentum for the...
30:40Notre Dame, find Irish, and get some more guys like Chris on board.
30:43Rich Eisen:Again, I'm not familiar with the program, but I'm just assuming Notre Dame can find more Cavanaugh's in places. Yeah, I hope so. I hope so. We got, what, your dad's cousin's kid coming in this year. Oh, is that right? Yeah. So, yeah, we're trying to string the bloodline along as long as we can. Wow. How many more Cavanaugh's are playing lacrosse, man? A few more. Second cousins. Okay. But, yeah, they're younger. Where are you from? Where are you from originally? I'm originally from New Hampshire, just off the beaten path, middle of nowhere. So how are you a Commander's fan? Walk me through this.
31:18Rich Eisen:Yeah, so... Uh-oh, Chris is laughing. Do you know the story, Chris? It's not a great story, honestly. When I was growing up, my brother... By the way, don't start stories that way. I love Clinton Portis, is what it comes down to. That's a good way to start. And I love the press conference that he was doing when I was young growing up. He was doing, you know, he had the clown costume, Sheriff Gonna Get You, a couple of those how old are you i'm 29. oh my god so you were seven years old and we were doing that stuff on nfl network yeah because when we started nfl network in 2003 we were clinton portis all the time because of him showing up in all those costumes so that that got me spoke to a young man growing young you know washington fan in new hampshire coach janky spanky i remember coach janky spanky i haven't heard that forever southeast jerome now it's southeast jerome mike you remember that it was honestly it was that and bill parcells press conferences that got us through the first year of nfl network and benson and benson buckner southeast jerome oh my god i remember that dole mike jenkins so that you're looking them all up now i am I remember these are all names.
32:34Rich Eisen:So that's got you to be a fight for ODC. Yeah, unfortunately. I mean, growing up in Patriot country then for 20 years, it was tough. But it looks like we sort of turned a corner and the commanders are on there, you know, on the way up these days. You got to love the news from today, right? I mean, McLaurin. Great news to wake up to. Yeah. Had a bunch of texts from my buddies. Everybody's excited. Awesome. Okay. Very good. Hold on a minute. we have today is a great day to pay Terry McClellan this was yesterday Ryder I got it done Ryder you tweeted that out yesterday yeah I'll take a little bit of credit for that I hope Adam Peters saw it TJ's a Cowboy fan would you like Ryder to tweet out today today would be a good day to pay Micah Parsons I realize there's no love between our teams but if you can get this done for me I'd appreciate it 80 million no less if the Cowboys are going to sign him Okay, whatever it takes.
33:31Rich Eisen:Just tweet that out. I think you're underpaying them. Now, Chris, you were a fan of which National Football League team? New York Jets. Okay, that's a Long Island guy right there. Wow. All right, Hempstead right around the corner, right? Yep. Back in the day. Yep, posture. I mean, I'll call it to me. And your parents are from Queens. Like, this, you had to root for the Jets. Yeah. You had to. 100%. How are we feeling? Yeah, it's always a good preseason for the Jets, and then always end up shaking your head. Would you rather talk about the California Redwoods than this topic of conversation? I can do either.
34:10Rich Eisen:I'm sure you can. I mean, I'm sure you can. But, I mean, what do you think? Forget the preseason. You got a new coach. You got a new quarterback. You got a new situation. Yeah, I'm very high on Justin Fields. You are. Running option, throwing option, I think he's going to be great. There's been some doubts about their offense in the preseason. I would agree. New coach, new view. I think it's a good start for them. Okay. And where did you go to school? I went to Chaminade High School and went to Notre Dame, and I went to the Taft School as well in Connecticut. Notre Dame, of course. Everybody's going to Notre Dame.
34:44Rich Eisen:You know I'm a Michigan Wolverine. Yeah.
34:49Rich Eisen:Is that why you didn't bring me anything? Not on the schedule these days. Well. There we go. Here we go. Here we go. Ryder, I mean, I'm happy to give you a history lesson, if you'd like, as to who was the one who removed whom from the schedule and has not rescheduled them. I mean, we can go there. But it's kind of wild that the quarterback there is the grandson of Lloyd Carr right now. And I do love the coach, which pisses me off because I really want to hate Notre Dame football. But Marcus Freeman is outstanding. Yeah, he's done a great job. Popular guy on campus. I imagine so. He treats everybody the way that they want to be treated.
35:29I love that.
35:30Rich Eisen:That's good to hear. All right, so let's talk about your match Monday, September 1st. Chris, I'll give you the floor first on what you're going to be thinking as you're going out there for the right to play in the championship. And obviously, you've had an illustrious career collegiately and in your rookie season as well. What's going to go through your mind for this match? It's going to be exciting. playing against a lot of familiar faces. Rookie season's been unbelievable, getting a chance to play for a championship in your first year of the PLL after some pretty tough years for the Redwoods in the past.
36:07So kind of changing a new chapter in Redwoods across is awesome. But playing against my brother and playing with Ryder and that relationship is unbelievable, and I can't wait to suit up. In Philadelphia, right? Yeah. Okay. and what's going to go through your skull? Not as many relationships, I guess. My brother's not on the other side, so just try to be dialed into the next play. I think that we've gone on some lulls, and we're a young team, so that sort of makes sense, but let's try to keep the guys as focused as we possibly can on the next play.
36:42Rich Eisen:And what are you sensing about the popularity of this league, of the sport, the level of attention that you've seen paid to it over the years? What do you got for me there? Yeah, I mean, I think that it's been just a pretty steady upward trajectory of the league. I mean, we were in Manhattan Beach last night. We ran into a kid who played at Princeton and Duke, and he's dialed in, knows exactly what's going on, watches every weekend. I don't think that that would have been true five, ten years ago. So I think that's where we see it, right? Everybody that we interact with is paying attention. It's on ESPN.
37:17It's on SportsCenter. So it's been great. you're feeling the same thing? Yeah, every feedback has been positive from my friends and I think the audience is getting older and older each year which is very good for the league and good for 5-10 years down the road.
37:34Rich Eisen:Well, they're the same age they're just Jet fans, they just look older Yeah, exactly Man, I wear the scars too from back in the day, but I'm calling a Jet Bronco game in London so I'm excited to see what the Broncos look like this year too, that's coming I don't have any Commander's games. Sorry, bud. That's all good, dude. Good to see you guys here. Thank you for coming. Thanks for having us. Say hi to Long Island for me. Say hi to all my friends at Notre Dame. I'm sure they ask about me a lot. Frequently. Yeah, yeah. Three words to all those Rudy was offsides. Tell them I said that. Oh, man.
38:09Rich Eisen:Is that wrong to say that? I know. I mean, I wouldn't have said it if they brought me a gift. I'm being honest. Try to be straight out of me. All right, Rudy, come on out. Hey! With his brass knuckles. Oh, man. And so who do you want? Who do you want in the finals? Come on. Bulletin board it. What do we got? Who do you want? We lost to both teams on the other side. Okay. Got any brothers left you want to beat? No. Chris is goalie from, what, three or four years plays for the Atlas. Okay. If you need a bulletin board, then you can. we'll try to shoot on Liam if we can get there you've got connections everywhere we just got hired at Michigan so he's one of their assistant coaches now well tell him I said hi good to see you guys Chris Cavanaugh and Ryder Garnsey California Redwoods everybody check out again Denver Outlaws taking on their California Redwoods the semifinals at PLL Monday September 1st

41:02Yes. I was beaten this year. Yes. so my business manager is supposed to have the hat for us he did not oh we're throwing Jamal under the bus who is thrown under the bus right now who is thrown under the bus by the bus just right now
41:17Rich Eisen:see he didn't even show his face I was willing to wear this hat he had it made up he told me that the hat that he made up had the final score no he had the hat on there it was a hat I don't know what that was the hat is supposed to read the following I am going to listen to this. Hear this. Hail to the victors, valiant hail to the conquering heroes, hail, hail to Michigan, the leaders and best. Wow. That is for you. Wow. You know it. I honestly did not. What it took for me to do that. I honestly can't have thought of anything else that you would do that would make me think that you would not have to follow through on your end of the wager, which is where an I should have gone to Michigan hat on the vaunted field of Notre Dame with touchdown Jesus behind you.
42:18Rich Eisen:But do I let him out of that end of the bet now? That was pretty epic, actually. And he nailed all the words. He grew up in the state of Michigan. He should know them. He should know them. I mean, that was like 40 years ago. I had to look him up to make sure I was saying it correctly for you. Also, I'm getting visions of, like, Jerome practicing before he came out here. That did sound rehearsed. Yeah, it sounded rehearsed. That was great. That took a lot out of me. Great job, Jerome. You know that. That was awesome. That was awesome. Thank you. I appreciate that. All right. You know what it took for me to sing that on national television.
42:55Yes, and radio. And we're going to tweet it out. Oh, yeah, it'll be there forever. Yes, right. Now, that's something that's going to be on forever. See? Okay. My phone is buzzing already. It's something. I've seen it. And I'm sure it's about to know anything that's pissed off. Uh-huh. I kind of think he's off the hook now. Is he all off the hook? I think he's off the hook. I'm in trouble already. That was pretty great.
43:16Rich Eisen:That was great, Jerome. Yeah, yeah. Very impressive. And I would never sing your fight song. By the way, in a couple years. We got a couple years. A couple years? Honestly, I could have a kid right now, and he or she could be bar or bat mitzvahed by the time the next game goes down, because Notre Dame refuses to play my school. Great rendition of the victors, man. I don't know about that part. No, no, no. That was really terrific. Yeah, I'm sure you're going to say that. Of course you will. And by the end of today, by sundown, I will have a new ringtone. And it's going to be fantastic when you call me.
43:55Rich Eisen:YouTube.com slash Rich Eisen Show. That is our spot for all things. Rich Eisen Show on YouTube, everybody. What? I'm blocking. I got the, I'm blocked. The camera. I can't see you, Rich. No, I know. They moved the camera. I know they moved the camera so we can get the two. It's okay. You'll look. It's all right. I'm sad. We're, we're, we're the type of guys. Like we can't just, we got to look at each other. We got to make eye contact. Yes. Big eye contact. Me too. Yeah. You don't make eye contact, they think you're not. You don't care. You don't care. It's like I'm not even here. Exactly. Right?
44:26Rich Eisen:I'm going to pay no mindless. We can't have it. It'll be moved. Don't worry. And plus, you're moving left. Like, do you normally go to your left like that? No. Okay. That's because I want to look at you, Rich. What are you making a face for? I'm not. You and I never have something in the way. We have a direct line of sight. I can look right down over there. TJ Jefferson. I can see TJ. That's fantastic. Back here on the Rich Eisen Show. Good talk. Hey. let's do this. I think Rex in Oklahoma has been chiming in one place. You there, Rex? You there, Rex? Yes, I'm here. Thank you. You got it right there in the nation's heartland.
45:00Rich Eisen:What's on your mind, Rex? I'd like to do the Miami win last. Miami Dolphins win last. We have Lamar in Charlotte when having me go 8-9 in Brandon Upstate, New York, 11-6. Let's see what the heartland of the country has to say. Rex in Oklahoma. Why are you a Dolphin fan, Rex, in Oklahoma? Boy and Ray, Southern Cal, Not too far from where you guys are now. I picked the Dolphins when I was 15 years old. I'm 68 now. I've had a lot of sorry times. I know that, but some good times, too. All right. What happens when... Bless you for the family. Everybody picks LA teams. I had to go with somebody else.
45:36Rich Eisen:Got it. What happens when they go to Indianapolis to start the season? We're going to beat the Colts. When? Home for the Patriots. We're going to beat the Patriots. Sorry about that, Chris, but they've had their time. They're done. We're now 2-0 going into the short week at Buffalo Thursday night. Sam, we're going to lose to Buffalo in Buffalo. 2-1 home for the Jets on a Monday night. Oh, yeah, we beat the Jets. 3-1 at the Panthers. Oh, yeah, we'll beat the Panthers. 4-1 home for the Chargers. I hate to say Chargers, but, yeah, we're going to beat you, too. 5-1 at the Browns. Oh, yeah, we're going to beat the Browns.
46:14Rich Eisen:6-1 at the Falcons. Feeling good. What's up? Oh, no, we're good. Yeah, every year we say we're going to win the Super Bowl, so come on. What happens? Falcons get the win. Uh-huh, Falcons get the win. Okay, so that's 6-2, home for the Ravens on a Thursday night. We're going to lose that home game. 6-3, home for the Bills. That, we beat the Bills finally. 7-3 in Madrid against the Commanders. We're going to win it against the Commanders. That's now off the bye. 8-3. Home for the Saints. Oh, we beat the Saints, definitely. 9-3 at the Jets. Oh, yeah, we beat the Jets. 10-3 at the Steelers on a Monday night.
47:01Tough one. I think the Steelers will win that one.
47:03Rich Eisen:10-4 home for the Bengals on a Sunday night. We're going to beat the Bengals. 11-4 home for the Bucs. Oh, yeah, we'll beat them. 12-4 at the Patriots. I mean. And we'll beat them, too. 13-4, says Rex. Yeah, I know. Kind of crazy, but hey, got to go there. Thank you, Rex. Good job, Rex. We're not mad at him. Man, you're a fan. I love it. Okay, listen. We just had a win-loss game played by a Dolphin fan in Oklahoma. Having the Dolphins go 13-4, and Chris said crazy, or somebody said crazy around here. but nothing is as crazy as what I saw at the United States Open at the U.S. Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York last night.
47:53Rich Eisen:I've never seen anything like this. As you know, I covered the U.S. Open for three years. I've been watching it four years, for decades. My parents would never let a television set in the kitchen. They would wheel in a black and white television for Super Saturday. And I've seen a lot. I've seen McEnroe do his thing. I've seen Ili Mastasi do his thing. Borg? I mean, Borg never went off the rails like, you know. They were like, not the same way. McEnroe was the one. McEnroe was insane. What I saw from Medvedev last night was completely understandable and then totally bat guano insane. Benjamin Bonzi, unranked Frenchman, had Medvedev on the ropes, serving match point in a straight sets victory to make it three grand slam first round exits in a row for Medvedev.
48:50Rich Eisen:And this kid, Bonzi, puts one right in the net for his first serve, at which point a still photographer comes out of the right corner, like out of nowhere out of a tunnel and decides to utilize the few seconds in between the first and second serves to serve out a united states open first round match to try and make it from the corner to the center court camera well position and the chair um screams at the guy i'm watching the game and all the match and all of a sudden you hear like not now screaming at the guy not now get off the court and i thought that somebody jumped out of the stance no it's some dude with a it's still it's still photog for whatever reason he thinks i'll make it there or i'll i'll run on the on the court and they stop obviously and for whatever reason the amp decides to give bonzi his first serve back even though the first serve was hitting to the net well before dude comes out from the tunnel and medvedev rightfully goes up to the chair and starts barking at him and then starts calling him out for being like he doesn't want to be here he screams at the camera and the microphone hey folks he doesn't want to be here calls out another colleague of his who called this chair umpire one of the worst umps in the sport just last week and then he's riling the crowd up he said he got paid by the hour not he starts riling the crowd up which turns into like a davis cup crowd and it was the crowd was dead match was over six minutes later crazy i thought to myself if i'm bonzi i'm just going to serve it in the middle of everybody going crazy yeah and of course medvedev came back won the third set won the fourth set six love and then there's a break fest in the fifth fifth uh set where they're breaking each other bonzi starts cramping he starts serving first serves like their second serves because he can't get any power into it and he beats Medvedev in the fifth set.
50:54Rich Eisen:But I've never seen anything like this. Then Medvedev starts slamming his racket. He loses his mind and I'm concerned for his mental welfare because some of the stuff he was doing in the six minutes, he looked like the Joker. Honestly, he was out of his mind. There were stairs. And he's now lost in the first round of three straight Grand Slams. He looks like a broken man, like his racket. He just smashed his racket over and over again. And apparently the photog lost his credentials. Yeah. Memon have got fined$150K for all that. His flushing medals privileges have been revoked. I've never seen anything like it.
51:41Rich Eisen:It was one of the crazy, and it was after midnight. It was one in the morning. The New York crowd's going nuts, and everybody shrugs their shoulders. He goes, that's the U.S. Open. Yep. Unreal. Hey, it's Ryan Reynolds here for Mint Mobile. Now, I was looking for fun ways to tell you that Mint's offer of unlimited premium wireless for$15 a month is back. So I thought it would be fun if we made$15 bills. But it turns out that's very illegal. So there goes my big idea for the commercial. Give it a try at mintmobile.com slash switch. Upfront payment of$45 for three months,$90 for six months, or$180 for a 12-month plan required.
52:17Rich Eisen:$15 per month equivalent. Taxes and fees extra. Initial plan term only. Greater than 50 gigabytes may slow when network is busy. See terms.
