In short
Becky Lynch’s origin story and early wrestling journey, told on the No Contest Wrestling Podcast during its 100th episode. She discusses how she became a fan, how she trained as a teenager, the pressures she put on herself, quitting for seven years, and later returning to wrestling.
Guest backgrounds
Becky Lynch is an active WWE roster superstar and is described as “The Man.” The hosts are O’Shea Jackson Jr. and TJ Jefferson (with K-A Petty Guerrero also present). Lynch is portrayed as a multi-time champion with major “firsts” (SmackDown Women’s Champion, holding Raw and SmackDown titles, top of ESPN WWE Power Rankings, cover of WWE 2K, and winning a WrestleMania main event).
Key claims
Lynch says she didn’t feel “special” early on; she wanted to be trained “like one of the guys” and was treated the same as everyone else by coaches Fergal Devitt (Finn Bálor) and others. She describes wrestling training as painful and humbling (especially bumps), but says practice improved her. She claims she quit for seven years due to pressure, fear of looking stupid, and being overwhelmed after Japan. She also argues that age pressure differs for women and men and that timelines have changed.
Notable examples
She lied about her age (claiming 17 instead of 15) to attend an NWA UK Hammerlock school. She recalls failing PE in her goth era, being terrified of Undertaker as a kid, and learning to wrestle on “six blue padded mats” with no ring.

0:31O'Shea:ladies and gentlemen welcome to the 100th episode of the no contest wrestling podcast i am the heel that you love to hate o'shea jackson jr hey k-a petty guerrero hey yo it's me it's me it's a t-double-o j-i-double-g-2 jigger tj jefferson what's up man tj we're doing the thing again we are we're in a two shot you know you're sitting next to me that must mean that we have somebody important in studio for an important episode for a very important episode our 100th a milestone if you will dap up they didn't think they didn't think we'd make it yeah right you know i'm pretty sure a few people thought but either way we couldn't have been here without y 'all appreciate you and we got something special for you so allow me to get down as you know I like to get down.
1:24O'Shea:Since the days when she used to come out to MC Hammer's You Can't Touch This, she's been trouble with a capital T, making fans and opponents faint, letting women's divisions know early on that she would be a big part of anything you want to do. Whether she is a baby face or heel, she has continued to take her Celtic invasion to new highs and new lows, and she doesn't worry about danger knocking on her door you see when it comes to danger's door rebecca knocks she is a she is a royal rumble winner a grand slam champion a three-time intercontinental champion seven-time world champion the first ever smackdown women's champion the first woman to hold both the raw and smackdown titles at the same damn time the first woman to top espn's wwe power rankings.
2:17O'Shea:We worked there. The first woman to ever be on the cover of 2K. And the first woman to ever win a main event of WrestleMania. She is the last kicker, Becky 2 Belt, big time Bex, and she is the first ever in-studio female active on the roster superstar for NCW. She is the man, Becky Lance. Oh, wow. Thanks a million. Clapping for myself. As you should. As you should. After that intro, I should be clapping for myself. I loved going into the Way Back Machine. Yes. And with the trouble with the capital T, some people might not have gotten off. Those were all her, for those listeners who didn't catch all that, those were all the titles of her songs, her entrances throughout the years.
3:09O'Shea:And we have been waiting for this episode for a long time, for 99 episodes. But like, yeah, exactly. But we have been waiting. Man, it just feels like even longer to sit and talk with you. We're going to have a lot of fun today. It's going to be a real good time. Especially when you said you had nowhere to be for a few hours. Nowhere to be. My God. I'm going to take my shoes off. I got to work out a little bit later, but that's it. Okay, we got a gym. It's called The Gym right across the way there. So it's closed now, but I can get you in. Oh, okay. By the way, they had to come up with a name for the gym.
3:45Yeah. They did that whole, this used to be AT &T. They did the whole company-wide poll, like, what should we name the gym? And the winner was the gym. Genius. Yeah, right. You know, I always say that. Genius is in the simplicity.
4:00O'Shea:Yeah. Don't, don't. There you go. Don't think too hard. Don't lose sleep. What were the other options? I don't know. I can't remember. This was like eight years ago. I put some really good ones in. Something like Pump and Stuff. Pump and Stuff. Pump and Stuff. I like Pump and Stuff. Like going in and Pump and Stuff because there was a juice bar. HR Pump and Stuff. People call when things get rough. Becky Lynch, how are you? I'm great. Thank you so much for doing this. This means the world to us. Thanks for having me. Yes. You are the first ever active female in-studio guest we've had. Yeah. You've got a lot of firsts.
4:34what does that feel like to have just a plethora of firsts uh good not solid solid we like this no like i don't i don't i don't think that i i don't think that i think of it but maybe i do no i don't no i don't think i do i think you know i think you're always just thinking about what's next as opposed to like oh I did that once you know it's always okay yep but what else are you gonna do what's next it's a terrible way to live but I think it's probably good in terms of wrestling because you know you're you're only as good as your last match or your last storyline or your last segment really you know because everything's constantly moving that I don't think while you're in it you ever sit back and they're like oh yeah i'm great
5:30O'Shea:yeah we've kind of picked up on that a little bit we have a question uh and we're gonna ask you later in the interview but we asked people what it was like their first night winning that world title and um the first person we asked that was the great mark henry um who is just like our abusive uncle but uh that's a great way to put it yeah he kidnapped me this last uh summer slam i'll tell you about that in a minute but so he gave us an emotional answer and it was heavy and he you know he had to wait 15 years to get the title and then when you ask like Like Rey Mysterio, he's like, oh, I was just thinking about next week.
6:15O'Shea:You know, just like, all right, now we got to keep it moving. Got to keep it moving. Eric Bischoff, we asked him, like, what does it feel like to, you know, when you are finally on top of WWE as WCW? And he was like, I was just thinking about next week. And that's a real thing, you know. It's just like you guys have to keep moving, have to keep adding. so i think the best way to start the entire conversation is how we usually start things becky lynch when did you get bit by the wrestling bug gosh like to wrestle or as a fan as yes both let's start to begin your wrestling fandom yeah wrestling as a as a fan like i just remember it always being on in my house and i had an older brother which helped so like i remember loving hulk hogan i remember hiding when the undertaker came on i remember like like being terrified of paul bearer i remember but it's just very it's it's little splashes of feelings as opposed to i can't remember sitting and watching a match or segment yeah do you know what i mean And I remember dressing up as an imagined wrestler and playing with my brother and having wrestling matches with my brother on my mom's bed.
7:40And I remember doing the entrances and I remember having a fur waistcoat that my mom had. And she had these leather gloves. And I remember sticking them down my brother's throat a la the mandible claw, which wasn't even a move at that time. And I remember. So you created it. Maybe. and I remember drop kicking my brother on the bed him hitting his head against the wall and then falling between the dresser and the thing and then being so terrified and he never told on me, what an angel yeah my brother Richie I clear knocked him out and he never told on me what a legend, what a legend of a life shout out to Richie who's not snitched the thing is I couldn't remember oh that's true Richie how'd you get down there and also it was his little sister you know it'd be a bit embarrassing but yeah so I remember that but then I then I fell out of wrestling and then it was Mick Foley which you know there's the mandible cloth connection yeah but he would cut these promos and I remember Richie would be watching it and then I'd come in I'd make fun of him I was like oh they're too fake they're for babies little baby and he was like no it's really cool actually it's gotten really good just say it like that just didn't care at all and I'm like oh whatever you little baby but then Mick Foley would be on and be cutting these promos and be like he's kind of interesting just call me when he's on and then and then I was in then I was hooked and that was god I was like what 12 13 and that was at the time when i was you know like those real early teenage years where you're trying to discover yourself yeah and i was you know playing around with my goth makeup when i was wearing my black lipstick and a dog collar and i was hanging around there was this area in dublin called the central bank and it was where all like the guts and the rockers and the hippies all hung out you know it was when you still define still kind of do define yourself by your music tastes you know and uh and we would all hang around there and we would talk about our alternative music but the other thing that was in this alternative world was that love of wrestling and it allowed me to have more of a connection with uh what i thought were these really good looking men too you know like at the time these older teenage boys and you know there i was with my gothy lipstick looking awful.
10:24Not that gothy lipstick is, Rhea's rocking it really well and others. But when I was wearing it, I, it did not, you know, I, yeah, I didn't have the markers right, you know, it was all over the place. It was all poorly done. Sounds like some great footage. But, you know, there's no footage.
10:45O'Shea:Oh, man. Thank God iPhones weren't around and in the hands of all youth at that time. We just had to conversate. And yeah, and so it kind of, not only did I love it, but it kind of also gave me a bit of a, I feel a bit of an identity, you know? Like you were the girl that liked wrestling and rock music. I felt like the girl in the Bowling for Soup song, you know? Like she's watching wrestling, listening to run. I'm a little familiar about me, write that down. You know? so so kind of like there was a coolness to it but it did it gave me this community and this interest and it's that thing when you get into wrestling especially in the early 2000s you couldn't shut up about it because there was so much happening you know like and there was always so much happening so much to talk about and this was before social media so you just had to wait to see people to tell them about it and then they would like either roll their eyes at you because they didn't care but you just were going to tell them anyway yeah um on the school bus or you know i'd wait till the weekends and hang out we listen to rock music and we talk about wrestling and yeah yeah i always say this and i've said this a few times on on air like when when it comes to wrestling as a wrestling fan if you want to talk about wrestling to someone who loves wrestling then there's no explanation needed right but if it's someone who's not into wrestling and doesn't like it there's no explanation you can give them that's going to make it make sense to them yeah you know so it's like but when you get it you get it yeah and it it to this day you know i will talk about wrestling every day on social media you know like i i'm just i'm just speaking two wrestling fans but everybody else can see it so like when people comment you do know that hold on wait person who doesn't watch tell me who's been watching every day this new phenomenon what do you mean like I'm supposed to not get what I'm looking at also that person usually has a movie avatar or something like oh so avatar or yeah that's fine Oh, gremlins.
13:07O'Shea:Yeah, they're real. I know the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park aren't there, but I still enjoy it. I have a great time. Right. And I tell everyone who maybe isn't a fan or, like, just is curious, you got to go. As you know, managing maintenance, repair, and operations is never easy. Gemini and Chrome is here for it. Ready to make anything online make sense? There's no place like Chrome. Check responses set up required compatibility and availability varies 18 plus. That's it. 14:24But as soon as you bring them to a show, you're like, oh my, wow. I have so many questions. And then they're in. Then they're popped.
14:32O'Shea:If you start to wonder, like, that little bit of, like, what channel does this come on? Like, then it's like, oh, you're in there. You are hooked, right? Yeah. I can never remember not being hooked. Yeah. You know, my whole life. So I don't remember that moment where I finally went. Oh, yeah. Because to me, it was always, like, I was into wrestling. Man, I had my older brother, Darryl, led me into wrestling through video games. and we would play this game, WWF Raw and WrestleMania, the arcade game. And he one day goes, you know, these people are, like, these are real people. All right. And by the way, if you know what Undertaker can do in one of those games, like him telling me that is like the worst thing in the world because I'm like, this dude is the devil.
15:20O'Shea:But so, shout out to your friend, Mark. So when, we'll tell you this. when he's like yeah these these are real people and then uh you know he turns on the tv and i'm seeing the the people that we are just playing with now the game was a little bit older than from when i started watching like you know there's not a lot of razor ramon matches happening anymore you know bam bam bigelow's on his way out and but when it came time to that that 2000 like the beginning of 2000 i'm in third grade you are a weirdo if you can't tell me what happened on raw on tuesday like when tuesday comes if you're the guy who don't know like you're you're an outcast for the day you know it was like it was the greatest soap opera in the world and you might really get hurt like it still is so wait when you're in third grade you are what i'm eight 13th?
16:22No, no. Wait, third grade? No. Oh, third grade is, yes. 13th is like, this grade stuff. Yeah. It confuses me. I'm still learning. We do it all differently back in Ireland. Yeah. Let's talk about that. What was, you gave us a little bit about life growing up, but you also, what, you used to ride horses and play basketball too? Did I say that? Yeah. Same time? Kind of. Like, yeah, kind of. But like, gosh, so you were eight in the Attitude Era and everybody was watching. That's awesome.
16:52O'Shea:Yeah, I, man, it's one of those, like, you, for like, there's some things, I'm seeing some things. Things you shouldn't. Some things at eight years old, but it made me a good person. You understood right from wrong. Yeah, you know. You did all right. You were eight in 2000? Yeah. Wow. I know I'm old, but like, I'm old old now, I guess. 1991 till forever, bro. Wow. Baby. Because the year 2000 was my second year moving in the United States. Yeah, eight, nine. Yeah. I'm eight or nine Yeah Wow If it's January or not Still young Yeah it's whatever It's the lighting
17:32O'Shea:That's good skincare But yeah I was I did like Yeah Horse riding For a little while But like I never really I was never good Then I broke my elbow On a little pony Called Snowy and they say get back up on the horse so I went back to get back up on the horse but you know the real reason I was going is that they had chocolate croissants like at this equestrian center they had these great chocolate croissants and my dad would give me a pound every time I went and I would get a chocolate croissant and I just loved it so that was like I really I went for the chocolate croissants and I stayed for the horses but I really care that much and then basketball i did like basketball but we didn't have a basketball net oh so we would just uh throw it at a lamppost and like you had to hit the the right spot and the lamppost but there was also uh where i lived there was a little there was a mormon church and so sometimes the the elders would let us in and they had a basketball but that was on a rare exception of a day.
18:45And then one time there was a lad in our friend group and then he ruined it because he ran around the Mormon church where he shouldn't have been. We should have only been in the basketball area and he peed in a sink. And then we were never allowed back in. He ruined it for the rest of us. I think he's a police officer now. A guard of Shea Kana back in Ireland. that's amazing yeah but that was it like i wasn't like a sporty kid i think i tried everything like i tried camogie which is uh camogie it's hurling it's like a kind of like hockey except it's a different shaped stick okay hurling hurling okay hurling sounds like throwing up it's yes it does It's like an Irish sport.
19:43You know how like Ferg Finn played Gaelic football?
19:47O'Shea:Yeah. That's like the Irish football. Yeah, yeah, yeah. To American football. Hurling is like the Irish hockey. I saw it to Irish hockey. Yeah. But anyway, and they call it camogie when girls play it for reasons. I'm not sure. Anyway, so anyway, so I tried all these things and I just wasn't good at any of them. and I failed PE. I was just soft. I didn't know if I wanted to ask you that. You failed gym class. How does Becky Lynch, multiple time women's world champion and the greatest wrestlers of all time, fail gym class? Well, I was still in my goth era. Oh, yeah, you're not. I was like Daria, you know, that show, and she's in gym class.
20:31Like that was me. I just didn't want to do anything. La, la, la, la. You remember Daria? Daria came on the same time as Beavis and Butthead I feel like is Daria not a little bit before your time?
20:45O'Shea:I was watching the Attitude Era You were a true story Yeah you were hip you were with it but I I just thought it was funny I thought I looked funny when I ran and I didn't want to look funny I looked funny when I ran I just didn't want to look funny when I ran I still look funny when I ran I feel that But now I look funny when I run, but I make money out of it. Yeah, exactly. You go, exactly. Just pay the students. Yeah, exactly. So we also saw that you considered a career as an actor. Yeah, well, I did my degree in acting too. But that was post wrestling. So when I was younger, I wanted to be an actor.
21:35And then I was told, don't be an actor. that's a horrible life and then was that by an aunt who told you that? an aunt told me that yeah she was an actor at the time I don't know that it was her telling me from experience or her being nudged like tell her tell her it's not a good tell her do something else you know and and so then I think like every parent tells their kids like oh you should be a lawyer so then I was like okay alright Well, I'll get to orate and I'll get to talk and communicate. And that seems like close enough. Yeah. That's close enough. Same, same. You know? I want to fight injustice.
22:20Yeah. Yeah. And talk. Fight and cry. Have a stage. That sounds wonderful. So that was what I was going to do, except I was terrible at school. And yeah, I wasn't getting good grades. I wasn't going to get into law school.
22:37O'Shea:but you know that was what i was going to do okay nice i feel that failing pe is impressive i'm gonna let you know right now you gotta just like not go to fail and i was there i was there it was honestly unfair miss corkran and she or miss corrigan i think it was miss corrigan miss corkran can't remember but she did not like me she made my mom cry no yeah why how uh parent teacher meeting just telling her how awful i was oh okay poor ma like just came back just in tears and little miss corcoran who was just tiny little stout thing yeah just yeah yeah yeah just tiny little sturdy lady with short hair i wonder how she's doing now anyway uh she uh she yeah she made my ma cry yeah man yeah and then and then i was like ah i gotta turn this stuff around what am i your life or i gotta turn my life got you 15 years old failing p i'm up to no good i'm a delinquent yeah what am i doing alternative music listening to all that was gonna stay i'm like i gotta i gotta change this i gotta change this way of life i gotta get on the straight and narrow my mother a lot of people uh think that my father is the like uh the angry voice i hear in my head but it's my mom my mom i hear it a lot and i had to i don't know if i told you this before i had when i was a kid uh my mom would have me proofread the letters that she would send teachers she would be like i need you to look over this i don't want to cause you any trouble so just look over it and if you see something you don't like tell me and there would be situations where i'd be like mom you can't tell my teacher you better not you know like like let's let's get rid of this you know and uh yeah so that was that was a lot of my reading experience i love the sound of your mother yeah shout out to mom yeah so when did the the wrestling because he asked you about the wrestling bug and we talked about as a fan but when did you when was the first time you went wait a minute i might want to do this so uh so i was i had decided to commit to my straight and narrow lifestyle but like james in ireland there was they were just hard to come by at that time now you know now they're everywhere now they're caught up and it was expensive and all that kind of stuff and it just felt so um you know i don't know it just felt so traditional not not for alternative becky I wanted to do something rough and ready and like it was a big wrestling fight I was looking into kickboxing I couldn't really find any places and then one day I walked into the computer room remember the computer rooms?
25:38Every house had a computer room and my brother was on the computer and he was like looking up this website in the UK it was NWA UK Hammerlock and he was like look there's two Irish lads on there their name were Fergal Devitt and Paul Tracy and he was like I think I'm gonna try and go there I wanna apply and then I was like oh I wanna go and he was like you're not going mom won't allow you and he was 19 at that point so he could do whatever he wanted but I couldn't and then when he reached out to the owner of it he told my brother that they were gonna that Fergal and Paul were opening a school in Bray in County Wicklow which was like an hour away from me.
26:21So I was like, ah, well, now I'm going. He's like, you're not going. You have to be 16. I'll lie. They don't know that. And he's like, no, you're not going. No, no, you can't go. And so anyway, then I stayed with my dad the night before, and then I just had my dad drive me down, like the legend that he is. And I showed up before my brother, and then my brother walked in after me. what are you doing here and how old were you again i was 15 15 okay you're almost there yeah but i said i was 17 because if i said that i was 16 then they might ask me for id yeah it's too perfect but you know if i said i was 17 then nobody's gonna lie about being 17 yeah who does that who does that you lie about being eight you know you lie about being like the right right you You know, if you give somebody, when you go into a bar, you're not saying, oh, I'm 23.
27:19You're 21. You know? 23 is perfect. You know, I've heard stories like that before. Mila Kunis, actress, one of my best friends, she got the 70s show when she was 14. She told them, I'll be 16 soon. So they figured she was right on the cusp of turning 16, but she was only 14. And by the time they hired her, it was too late. And all she said was soon. Soon. Right? That's relative. She technically didn't lie Yeah she didn't She was going to be 16 Just not I guess as soon as they assumed That she would be They didn't check the You don't need to fill out paperwork I guess in 1997 98 they were maybe a little bit More free with what they were doing I don't know She was great She was awesome And her son who is my godson I've kind of we talk about him a lot his name is Bear Bear and Bear has been converted into a wrestling fan because of me and this podcast and so I you know I show him wrestling matches and he's a fan of yours as well so when he sees this he's gonna lose Shout out to Bear Shout out to Bear Bear Kutcher
28:32O'Shea:is such a oh that's such a name that is such a name oh my god that is such a name such a name I mean when your parents are Mila Kunis yeah I got an Irish name Good stock. I got an Irish name and I have no idea where it came from. Where did it come from? I have no idea. And I asked my grandmother and I was like, Grandma, why did you name my dad O'Shea? And then she goes, well, it was between that or Orenthal. You didn't want that because that's OJ. Coin flip of my life. And yeah, so thank God for that. And that was the end of the story. And now she's gone and passed. So that's the story I have.
29:12And it's a cool name. It's a solid name. You also don't meet many O'Shays. Exactly. Not like first names.
29:18O'Shea:We were at a basketball game. It was Celtics versus Rockets. It's a long story for people to know I shouldn't have been there. But there was a player and he went past me and my dad and he goes, my name's O'Shea too. And I was like, I don't care. I'm like, dude, you're named after my dad? You're a weirdo. Get out of here. But yeah, it bothered me. I like being like the only option. By the way, that attitude has stayed with him until just right now. God. So what? Go play ball. So you're at the gym. You lied about your age. I don't want to say lied. No. No, I pure lied. I don't want to say that. No, I straight lied.
29:59You fabricated a tale about your age. Straight lied. Okay, you straight lied. Then your brother walks in. Then he walks in. What's Richie say when he sees you? Well, because he didn't want to look after me, right? He didn't want to have to protect me. And I was like, you won't have to. Except all I wanted to do was be glued to his side because I was so nervous and awkward and didn't know what to do. And, you know, didn't know anybody. And I was the only girl there. And I was going to suck. Because, you know, clearly I failed PE. I run funny, all right? But there wasn't even a wrestling ring. It was just six blue padded mats on the ground.
30:38That was it. That was how we were going to learn to wrestle. And I had to learn to bump and all that kind of stuff on there. But, you know, we were coming fresh off of Tough Enough. And so I had expected Tough Enough training. You know, I expected like everybody was going to be super jacked down there. And, you know, they were all going to be bodybuilders. And we were going to have to go run hills. And we were going to work out until we puked. And I was going to be doing push-ups and testing my mettle. but it wasn't. It was like, all right, do 10 squats. All right, do 10 jumping jacks.
31:15O'Shea:Nice. All right, let's go. I mean, they just opened it. You know, they're figuring it out too. What I'm finding crazy is someone who, like you said, you failed gym class. So what mentally made you, gave you the confidence to be like, oh, I can do this.
31:36I don't know. Yeah. Yeah, got possessed. Well, I had committed to my new lifestyle. I had changed. Oh, right, right, right. Yeah, I was changing things. I was changing my life. I was getting on the straight and narrow. I was ready for change. I was ready to be a different person. Okay. I was ready to be tough. And, you know, like gym class, well, anybody can play hurling and run and you know pass a gym class yeah that's i wanted to puke i wanted to be tough yeah i wanted to beat the hell out of my body that was going to be different than just yeah doing drills you know i don't know there was something about like that the test of it that i am going to be able to push myself in a way that other people don't or won't you know when you were watching Tough Enough, do you remember watching it?
32:37Like the early seasons of Tough Enough and you'd watch these people give up and complain and cry and talk about how hard it was and you're like what are you doing? You have a chance to be in the WWE Stop it! You know what I mean? You're like I could do that You would watch and you would don't give up, what are you doing? And so I was so used to the armchair coaching of that, that I think it gave me this perspective on what I was going to be like in wrestling, as opposed to, it was just two different things in my head. And then how there was no correlation. How'd it go though? Like you're there.

34:43I think it was really just when I walked in the door, you know, like I think when I walked in the door and I saw these lads, you know, just a bunch of skinny teenagers and like young men who wanted to be wrestlers. And I was like, oh, this is different than WWE. But also, we all have this thing in common. So, you know, where these might be people that I would never interact with, in my day-to-day life or in in in interests other than wrestling and but there's this community that we're all that that bonds us all and we're all uh here wanting to do well at this thing and we want to encourage each other and it was just this very supportive community that you were kind of already in and then and then you have to learn how to wrestle and you have to learn how to take bumps because that's the first thing that you do and then you realize oh this sucks yeah oh this is painful and especially when it's just done like this much foam on a hard surface
36:06yeah i was hoping i was going to be a natural at something for the first time in my life i was like oh this is where I find out that I am a protege that I I am a savant of this and I quickly found out that I was not and that we took that, I was like I'm going to attack the mat and so I thought I was attacking but I just banged my head everything hurt but each bump as bad as they were got better as I progressed and as I put effort in. And I didn't know what I was doing, but I wanted to be good at what I was doing and I wanted to get better at this thing. And it was like a revelation. Oh, wow, if you practice at something, you can improve.
36:58O'Shea:How about that, folks? It's not just in American movies. This is a thing. Wow. Oh, well, all right. Yeah. all right let me commit to this thing you know and kind of pretty quickly my brother realized that i wasn't going to give up that i was going to continue to go down there and honestly i think more for the community even than the rest because i didn't like have notions about myself that i was going to be in wwe like at that time you know like these women were just models they were stunning and they were like jacked out of their mind. You know, they had something very special about them that I did not, you know?
37:45No, that you thought you did not. But also like, no. No? Like if they were a hire, like I would not have been hired in what they were hiring in 2002, you know? It was either super jacked girls or model girls. You have to be kind of... And I was nothing. I was just a regular looking girl who wasn't particularly anything. And that was fine. I didn't think that I was going to be a wrestler. I just wanted to give this thing a try so that I could turn my life around. That was the motivation then? That was the motivation so that I wouldn't be like wanting to drink a beer on a Monday night. And so that I might not be having teachers make my mom cry, you know, so that I could kind of.
38:47I don't know, just have something to be interested in. You want it more for your life. Yeah, exactly. But but not that. But wrestling wasn't going to be it like I wasn't going to make it in WWE. They weren't going to be interested in me. I just wanted to be good at this thing.
39:04O'Shea:it's almost like it was uh you know you like you saying you wanted to to throw up you wanted to like it was like your your therapy a little bit of just like you know i'm i'm kind of mad at myself and i feel like i need to get taken through the ringer a little bit but then like you end up falling in love with the community and little do you know this is the best decision ever yes yes 100 % but I just I wanted to push myself I suppose I need to test myself I feel that but I think it was also as well then like this you know in those young teenage years you're trying to figure out who you are you're trying to have an identity for yourself and you know I didn't want to be like everybody else I didn't want to be you know like I didn't I wanted to stand out hence the goth you know thing and the i'm i'm the girl that's interested in wrestling i'm the girl that's interested in rock music i'm you know you're trying to find like a niche that says you're special when you're when you're a teenage girl and now oh i'm the girl that wrestles so now this gives me a little bit of an identity and i'm the girl that can push myself on so there was like layers to it beyond like i just love wrestling it was a way to kind of love myself yeah that's therapeutic you know i don't know but it was like it was something of teenage years and trying to find who you are and and wrestling gave me this uh this vehicle i think to kind of feel a little yeah just feel a little special and you said in a cold world yeah hell yeah and you said so the coaches down there fergal debitt as we know finn balor what what did you learn from hay and the other coach when you went there to god like they yeah they just didn't treat me any differently like they they didn't make any exceptions it was the only girl um and i remember like I remember crying to Ferg one day.
41:20I was struggling with something. I was just like, I just wanted to be the best. I wanted to be the best. But not just for a girl. I just wanted to be the best. And I was like, I want you to train me. I just want to be like one of the guys when I wrestle. I just want to be that good. And he's like, that's what I've been trying to do. What did you think I was doing? you know like I was I was I was treating you the same as I was treating every but and that was it like there was going to be no exceptions for me um whether I kind of slightly wanted them or not you know I was just going to I was just going to learn the old-fashioned way and I was going to be uh tested in the same ways and um I think that was that was it it was just that everybody is going to have to do the same things everybody's going to have to learn the same way so there's no exceptions you know you are not special you are not a unique snowflake damn you know
42:27O'Shea:my mom said i was do you remember anything from those early days uh in just like of learning wrestling that you couldn't stand doing like was there anything like as a all i had was basketball and as soon as I hear the coach say baseline, it like sends like a visceral shiver down my body of just like either somebody messed up and we're about to run, he suicides, the 17s, or just like anything. But I hear any coach's baseline, it's like a real thing. Is there any drill or move you just didn't like taking? God, in the early days, I hated anything. I hated going in there and calling stuff on the fly.
43:18So I didn't know what I was doing. How does it look? Everybody watching you, I have no clue how to do any. I'm still learning how to lock up. So I think that was probably one of the harder things that I hated doing. But just from an embarrassment standpoint. you know just that you felt foolish afterwards but i don't think there was anything in terms of like stuff hurt yeah it all hurts it all hurts but i don't remember hating that as much as as just the fear of looking stupid and i guess that was and that and that was that was that was the daria that was the the the the yeah that was always the thing is just being being worried about looking stupid you know there are so many i was going to say million thousands but there's millions millions of people who have not chased the dream or done something that they want to do because they had that fear that oh i'm gonna look dumb or people are going to make fun of me and it's just It's like the amount of people who could get over that and continue on to their dream as opposed to the people who let that stop their dream.
44:37And it's just like I think as human beings, it's one thing we all worry about perception. Right. And what someone else is, they're going to laugh. But you got to be able to if you really want something, you got to be able to just get past that and keep going, you know. And so it's great to see and hear that you overcame that because a lot of people can't overcome that. Yeah, but, you know, as well, I did quit for seven years. A little bit because I kind of, you know, I got, again, when I then decided that I was going to make a living out of wrestling, I kind of got like, and I started to get confident in myself.
45:15and I thought that I was great. For the time, I was probably maybe better than average, you know, at the time, at least I thought. And I still didn't have a clue. Like, looking back, if I was to watch any of my matches, I'd go, Jesus, this is off. But at the time, I thought I was great because I would do all my, like, chain wrestling that I thought was so intricate. And that was the style at the time. You know, like wrestling matches were, it was all these different wrist lock reversals on the indies. That was, people loved it, you know. We were all trying to be Daniel Bryan and Nigel McGuinness.
46:04And I mean, I was never trying to be AJ Styles, but, you know, he could do all of the intricate stuff as well. So that was what I did and what I was kind of good at. And so I had these notions about myself. But then it was kind of one of those things where then when I still needed to be training, I was worried about like not doing the other stuff well and like looking foolish. So I don't think I kept up as much. And then I got like too, you know, at that time as well, I was 19, 18, 19. I was, I'd moved away from home. I was living in Canada, wrestling Japan. I was wrestling around America. My ma was like, what is this thing that you were doing?
46:51You need a plan. Like, where are you trying to go? And if I showed her what women were doing on TV at the time, wasn't, you know, the most savory or, you know, she wouldn't be able to see it in the same way that I could see what I wanted to do because I was watching Japanese women's wrestling. oh man you know and i was like that's what i i wanted i want to do that but then i wrestled in japan and i was like oh yeah i am i am i am not there yet you know i am far from there but at that same time when i was brought over to japan the promoter thought that i like yeah you know i was 18 i had like dyed blonde hair and these brown eyes and he thought i looked like britney spears I didn't but like as he had told me ah Gaijin all same face you know at the time and and so like I you know so I was he was trying to push me as this star which again like and the pressure of everything and I gotta figure it out and I'm scared I'm gonna look stupid and ah and I self-combusted you know I just was like ah yeah ah I don't know what I'm doing.
48:10And I was just trying to, and there was no, there was no real mentor or maybe there was, but then I was trying to push them away because I was, I was scared. I was, you know, I was still a teen. I was still a kid, you know, trying to figure it all out. And I quit. I just, I left. I couldn't take it. I got too lost and too in my own head and, stepped away for seven years.
48:40O'Shea:My mom has a saying she's always told me. You never give a baby steak. You gotta cut it up into little tiny morsels at a time. If it's too much at once, I'll never trust it again. You have to take the right steps to get to to being able to enjoy everything at its full because if you jump at it from the jump, the baby choke. That is a great line. Yeah, you never give a baby steak. Tended little morsels. Little morsels. So you going into that. I don't like chili because my mom tried to force me to eat chili when I was like three. Little trauma. And I threw up and I didn't like it. And to this day, I've never eaten chili.
49:25Yeah, you'll never touch it again. Chili looks gross to me. It is delicious. I got it. Hey, more for me.
49:31O'Shea:There. Please, please, please. You're ma with the wisdom. Yeah. Yeah, he never gives a baby steak. And so when you go over there and, like, everything is thrown at you at once, of course you're like, oh, I'm done with this. You know, because the tender morsel stops. Yeah. Yeah, and also just the, like, the pressure that I put on myself to, I have to make it by the time I'm, before I'm 20. This map that we lay out for ourselves. Before I'm 20, because then I'll be too old. You know? I'll be too old. I need to get a real job. Like, legit, these are stuff that I found a diary that I had written down.
50:14Like, I need to get a real job. I'm living a dream world. I need to settle down. 20? I was 19 when I was writing that. But, like, because by the time I hit 20, for some reason, the pumpkin was going to, the carriage was going to turn back into a pumpkin. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Not knowing how much time you really had ahead of yourself. Yeah. That's all from movies and stuff like that. It's that map you make up. It's also sports. We talked about this on the show the other day. I think we have this weird relationship, especially sports fans, with age. Because when we were a kid, well, I was a kid. He was not a kid.
50:51Whoa, whoa. But, you know, I hear like a quarterback in the NFL turns 30. And they're like, well, it's almost the end for Kurt Warner or Brett Favre. And you're like, so as a kid, I'm, you know, 14, 15 thinking, all right, 30 years old is you're old. And then you get there and you're like, wait a second. I still feel like me. Yeah. I'm not old at all. So, yeah, we've got this weird relationship with age. And at 19, you thinking that you had to know what you were doing at that point. But I do think that these that it's it's changing a little bit. You know, like I do think like people are growing up a little bit later, I think.
51:27Yeah. And they're not, you know, I see, I can't remember. I remember seeing somebody being like, and I'm only 27. And I remember being like, oh, you're only 27. I felt like I was ancient at 27. Like I was like, okay, I got it. We got it. We got like, we got a zip. I got like two years in WWE before they're going to kick me out. Then I got to be married. I got to have the kit, you know. At like 27, you know? And then I heard somebody say like, yeah, I mean, I'm only 27. And I was like, fair play to you. Yes, you are only 27, you know? Your frontal lobe developed two years ago. Yes. I just wonder, because I never thought about this until right now.
52:14Do you think women and men put different pressures on themselves when it comes to the age thing? Oh, 100%. Yeah, right? I do. I do. Or at least, you know, I don't know now if they do. but I just can speak for myself. I know that I certainly do. But, you know, like I think a lot of that is looking at your own parents as well. And you're like, okay, by 27, my ma had my brother and she was married and, you know, she had a mortgage, you know, and you're like, well, I'm 27 and I'm hoping to be on the main roster and I'm, you know, like hoping to do really well at this thing. And, you know, where I think I remember talking to, like, Lita, and she was done by 30.
53:00Wow. Because, you know, she was done by 30, right?
53:05O'Shea:Oh, my God. I think we'd have to look that up, but I think that was the year when she was like, okay, now I'm done. But even when I was going for my tryout, I was 25, and the cutoff as a woman was 26. so even then I was like kind of pushing it pushing it if I don't get in now that's it dreams dead I'll be too old you know and all of these things thank god I think have changed and I see people like be a bit more relaxed which I think is I think is good that's good you've got time there's no clock there is a clock but you know there's not there's not as much there enjoy it yeah the one that the one that trips me out is that javon evans oh my god man i call him son i've seen videos right yeah he tripped us out one day he was we had him as a guest on here and i brought up uh the sega genesis or the mega drive for those you know and uh he was like what's the second genesis he goes i this gonna make me feel younger you guys wouldn't think i'm even more young but what's second genesis and literally i just sank first of all we said sega genesis all right yeah well he was like the furthest i could go back is uh nintendo 64 it's like oh wow we are old and then that was the first time though where i felt like oh man that didn't feel good at all Because normally I'll feel older than he won't, but this time maybe.
54:47O'Shea:Rightfully so, but like, wow. Okay. Wow. Rude. Yeah. Yeah, man. I realize that there's the same amount of years difference between Javon and me and Javon and my daughter, you know, which like, I was like, oh, actually, I think there's less years between him and my daughter and him and me. That's intense. And I was like, ah, that's crazy. he's such a great kid man he's such a great kid such a great head on his shoulders such a lovely lad there was a video going around social media last week of he and I guess the new NXT North American champion Jackson Drake having a match at 14 years old and they were as good as 25 year olds insane how far those guys they probably lied and said they were 17 I wouldn't doubt so Becky those seven years you said you stopped let's let's dive into that you were a flight attendant right when I was a flight attendant personal trainer moved to Orlando uh did my diploma there and then when I came back from doing that I like worked at a gym for a week or two and my mom she was a she was she'd been a flight attendant for 29 years and she was handing in a resignation um because they offered like a redundancy package oh yeah there we are then that is your mom that's my mom yeah nice wow yeah um that is on her last flight which was my first transatlantic flight wow to new york yeah and that was her last um which was wild that it worked out like that um it's written man that's awesome it's written yeah so she um she she was like do you want me to hand in your resume and i had i had um i'd applied to be a flight attendant before um i think it was right when i'd gotten out of And...
56:56God, when was it? I had applied before. I think maybe right when I got out of... When I was 18 or something, when I'd given up college. But then I'd also applied for a movie. I know I applied anyway, but I didn't get it. And so I tried again, and I got it. And so, yeah, so I ended up working for Aer Lingus for two and a half years. But I knew that that wasn't what I wanted to do. yeah i was like i my mom loved it like she loved it she said she could count on one hand the amount of bad days she had wow i could not relate like i i felt like i didn't fit in you know like i was always in trouble for my uniform like i my hair my mom was god she was like immaculate like she would pick me up from school and everybody be like oh my god your mom's so glamorous and i was not that my uniform was always like too big on me or i just was it was not it was not for me i was scared of flying oh that's kind of an important thing that's a huge piece well like do you know i wasn't before i started my flight attendant training and then they told me everything that could go wrong and then i was like oh well i didn't know that this could happen and like stuff like fire doubles every 30 seconds and i'm like and if we're in the air that's a long time before you come down if it's doubling every 30 seconds you know oh man all the things that i had never thought of so it it didn't it didn't like calm my nerves it stoked them so yeah so for two and a half years i was more scared of flying and then i was like the responsibility if anything goes wrong everybody's looking to me you right right you got to keep that straight face and i remember asking in training i was like yeah but what if you just freeze you know like what if something happens and you just freeze and they were like well let's not think about that okay great practical skills great i love it yeah just uh don't don't do that just uh don't yeah Don't freeze.
59:14Did you ever have any unruly passengers? Like any type of horror stories while you were? No, no, no. Like I remember a rude man. Just one? There was just one very rude man. I don't remember being so, like I did remember seeing like, you know the old saying kindness kills or whatever. Kill him with kindness. Kill him with kindness. I remember just being so nice. And then, oh, the remorse. And I remember him trying to tip me. And I was like, I don't think we accept tips. I think you probably could. But yeah, so I learned a lesson about killing them with kindness, which I think I've learned and forgotten many times in my life.
59:59I try to learn it constantly. Definitely a skill. It's definitely a skill. Yeah. So should we not get ice in our drinks? Because I keep hearing this. You as a flight attendant, you know everything that goes in that cabin. They say, don't get the ice in your drink. I heard don't get the coffee. I heard that too. I think it's all fine. I mean, not that I...
1:00:21O'Shea:I ain't died yet. Yeah, some of the girls got... Sometimes we would run out of water on the bottles of water. Okay, here we go. This is back in the day. And so there's a water company in Ireland called Ballygown. And then we would start calling it galley gown because we'd fill it on the taps from the galley. And you put that in the bottle and then serve it. And we'd put that in the... See, that's what I'm talking about. This is exactly what we asked. Well, like, I think it's fine. I know. I was fine. I think it's fine. Like, I would drink it, no bother. Yeah. And I was fine. So, like, I think it's fine.
1:01:02O'Shea:Do you... Like, I think everything's fine. Yeah. You know, but... There's nothing wrong with me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It would only happen when we'd run out of the bottles of water, which would happen often. Do you still remember any of your flight attendant spiel about the tray table and all that stuff? Yeah, I think so. But I'm also not sure if I've just memorized it from being on planes so long. So we got a picture. I want to show you this picture and tell us who this person was. Oh, there she was. Oh, Rebecca Knox. Oh, my gosh. Yeah, wow. That was 19. Oh, my gosh. That's been, what, 24 years?
1:01:4924 years since my first match. I was 19 there, though, I think. That was when I was Supergirls champion in Canada for a promotion called ECCW. that might have been the same they had their first Supergirls tournament which was the first time that I met Natty so I've known her I've known her longer than I haven't known her which is wild I've known her for 21 years now
1:02:23O'Shea:amazing you just made me realize that's how long my best friend Roman I've known you for longer than I haven't known her what a bar yeah yeah that's wild that's wild yeah and yeah so and like a few months after that we had what was my first tour of japan she had already been and uh yeah we've we've we've been friends ever since me and her used to go around these little like convenience stores looking for 80 calorie ice cream man she tore her acl real early in that uh in the tour on that and she was just like i'm fine i think it's fine i think i i yeah no i think it's fine it's just it's swollen and i can't really walk on it but it's it's fine i'll be i'll be fine she just wrestled like a bad ass for two weeks after that oh no yeah yeah so if you could pick up a phone and call that version what would you tell her?
1:03:25it's gonna be alright kid you're gonna do alright don't worry about it it'll all work out but I also don't know I always think that I'm such a worrier
1:03:42is it you go don't worry it'll all work out but the worry probably helped it work out
1:03:52O'Shea:yeah you know a little pressure very good point i i have a nine-year-old daughter and i took her to go see this movie inside out too oh great movie and it and first fuck anxiety uh but like how many times did you cry during that i was by like when i saw her have a panic attack i was like oh my god i'm a wreck like i'm it's about to be bad in the car you know and uh yeah but a little anxiety was helping her out just a little bit don't go overboard but like a little anxiety helped her out in a lot of cases and if i don't put that pressure on myself no one's going to yeah no one's going to so like i kind of feel that that like worrying helps sometimes but also being a parent i worry about everything now like it's like i was already bad on my own yeah but And now it's like on a level of, and I have a little girl.
1:04:55O'Shea:If I had a little boy, people at school bothering him, I'd be like, yo, tell him, kiss your ass, push him. You know? With girls, it's different. It's like a mental warfare. And like right now I'm worrying about her at school. I'm looking at the clock and I'm like, you know, it's just a natural, it's a new level of worrying being a parent. Do you experience that same thing? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, and Colby says the same thing about being, if it was a little boy, he might. Yeah, I'd be like, dude. Yeah. But also, like, he's the non, he's the yin to the yang? He's the yang to the yang, whatever.
1:05:36O'Shea:Yin is peace, and yang is. Oh, yeah, yeah, he is peace. That man is just, you know, he's the most stable, level, logical, chill, you know. And I'm always, you know? And he's like, relax, it'll be fine. But aren't you worried? Yeah. No. Can't you worry? We can't have two of us like this. Touche. But yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. The worry is, oh, it's a whole different level. But maybe it's a better worry, right? It's a healthier one. It's a much healthier worry, you know? At least you're over yourself. You're like, ah, myself would be fine. But this little thing. Yeah, exactly. The love of my life. This loaf of bread that I kept alive.
1:06:30O'Shea:And look at it now. Look at her. She's jumping off stuff, scaring me to death. The thoughts. They have thoughts and opinions and wisdoms. Oh, they're spectacular. A year ago, these girls hid her water bottle. at camp right right you told me and she she tells me because she gets in the car i said how was work you know i never say school work you know it make her feel like a big girl you know how was work she was like it was good and bad i was like shit okay so why she said these girls hid my water bottle and i didn't know how to handle it so i go you want to fight i was like do you want me to kill them?
1:07:14O'Shea:violence. Daddy, no. Like, it's like a whole thing. Like, now we have a running joke where she's like, you don't have to kill anybody. And I'm like, all right, good, all right, because you know I will. And so, but like, yeah, man, it bothers me. And that little bit of worry makes me want to keep her prepared. Keep her, like, you know, like, it makes you want to parent. And it's just like, you know, build up her attributes a little bit, you know? here a little there so when the bullshit happens she'll be okay but i also gotta know that like i remember what it was like to be in that jungle yeah right kids are rough yeah yeah next thing you know she's in the streets listening to alternative music wearing her black lipstick dog collar on listening fawning over lads with long hair that are in rock bands so good lord Barley for soup.
1:08:11Yeah. Bowling for soup. Bowling for soup. See, I can't even read my writing. Bowling for soup. I think they did a song about Alexa Bliss, too.
1:08:21O'Shea:Yeah? Oh, yeah. I was like, should have been me. Now I know what you're talking about. You know, it's funny that you bring up Alexa Bliss, because I think now we want to kind of transfer over until you come into NXT. Sorry, I keep bringing this all over the place. No, no, no. It's the beauty of the show. Because we don't like to look at it as an interview. We're just some friends. Like, if there were no cameras around, it's probably how the conversation would go. But we wouldn't have this. You spoke of Alexa Bliss. We want to talk about you getting into NXT. But we found something, and I just want to play this for you and get your reaction.
1:08:57Oh, no. Is this going to be the video? Don't play a video. Don't play a video? I can't watch myself. All right. I'll play it then. No, no, no. Don't. You don't play it. All right. Don't. In order to be the best, you have to beat the best. And if your opponent happens to be the best, you must study them so much that you become your opponent. VFS, this is not a test. We are the team of Bex and Lex, and we've been watching you, studying your every move. From the way you enter the ring. To the way you... So, we challenge you. To go toe-to-toe with NXT's newest two. So Banks and Flare, if you dare.
1:09:49Step into the ring with the diva with the bestest delts. And the most dazzling bling. See, you may bring all the sass and badness. But we bring all the sparkle and gladness because we're feisty and quick and don't miss a trick. You better call a vet.
1:10:14Because these pythons are sick. Oh, God, Becky.
1:10:26So that's you. Oh my god, why did you have to play that? Well, I thought it was awesome, to be honest with you. I actually didn't watch it. I saw somebody said it, and I was just like, I can't. Are you sure you don't want to see it? No, no, no. All right. Here's the deal. I feel like you and Alexa Bliss right now are two of the best mic workers in wrestling. I think that goes without saying. And so it was just really cool just to see the beginning of it. You could see the flashes. but of course everyone's going to start off oh but you know what was so fun, promo class back then was incredible, it was a variety show like it was just it was like a talent show just what can you do bring it up, try out a character none of these characters were going to make it to TV but it was just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what stuck and it was such a lesson in creativity right it was what we're talking about earlier of not being afraid to look stupid or being afraid to look stupid and doing it anyway i remember when i was younger i told uh paul hayman this that uh there was a line in the rise and fall of ecw that always stuck out to me he said because if you're not afraid to fail then my god the possibilities are endless and this was like a microcosm of that yeah a promo class we're just like let's see what you can do and you had some people la night act down amazing incredible do the same thing every week hit it at the park um enzo and cas same thing just hit it at the park there was their act good got it gone sasha banks had it was there um bailey when she figured out her thing it was there it was all done and she had already figured it out by the time I was there.
1:12:24So there was these people that had their act together and then there was the rest of us that were just trying to figure it out and it was awesome. Then you had Dusty Rhodes sitting there commenting, telling stories, going off on tangents, stories about ghosts and trains and this. And you're just sitting there going okay. But it was fascinating. And it was awesome. And God, them was the good old days. How did you get signed to NXT? How did I get signed to NXT? So several things. So I'd given up wrestling. I was doing my degree in acting. I had just graduated college. I was trying to figure out how to get roles.
1:13:15I was about to move over to New York because I'd lived there for a little bit. I wanted to try um do theater uh and I had a friend who trained at the gym that I trained at she had gotten a tryout for WWE um and her boyfriend at the time he had also gotten a tryout and they'd actually both gotten signed but like in that she was asking me to help her with character ideas and things like that and i would sit and i would talk to her and then one day we were talking about promos and her boyfriend was like you know oh no and then there was that oh i was i'd gotten there were so many things i'm just trying to put them in order i had gotten a role on the vikings to play a stunt woman okay but i didn't have a clue what i was doing so i went down to a wrestling to the wrestling school that the boyfriend joe now i'm just gonna call him joe right joe uh ran the school i was trying i was i was getting back into wrestling i was doing the thing he was like you still got it then later in the week we were all sitting around we were talking about promos because they had just gotten signed um after getting their tryouts and they They were like talking about characters and I was talking about it.
1:14:44And like, Joe was like, would you think about going for a trial? Because I think you'd get it. Like you clearly still have love for it. I went all over the place in that story. But, um, uh,
1:14:57so I was like, ah, you know, I'm doing my acting thing. My stunt thing. I'm going to move off to New York. I got my flights booked. He was like, just, just think about it. I think you'd get it. So I was like, okay. It was just that, can I allow myself to go back in this, to this thing that I love? And it always felt like I had, it was always like a little pull. There was always the fear of like, I don't know. What am I going to do? How am I going to? I don't know. No, no. and I would try it and I'd not have the same right. And when he said I was like, Harry, last shot, you gotta do this. And he called Robbie Brookside who was now helping with recruiting.
1:15:53And I had worked on a show with Robbie when I was 19 and I was wrestling Sweet Soraya, who's Paige's mom. And me and her beat the crap out of each other. And Robbie was always, because Soraya had this reputation for being like pretty tough, you know, being stiff. And not many people can match her. But I came in and we just beat the piss out of each other. And I think we had a pretty good match. And he was like, oh, who was that girl? And then I disappeared. Like he was like, whatever happened to her? And then, so then when Joe called about me, he was like, oh, Noxy girl. I was wondering what happened to you.
1:16:39And, uh, and so, and, uh, and I was like, yeah, well, you know, I, I think I, I'd like to give it a try. And he's like, oh yeah. And, uh, so then he kind of gave me some advice and I remember calling up Seamus and Seamus gave me advice. And, um, and, and, and then I was like, this is it. I gotta get it. I can't let this go. I can't let this go. This is too meant to be. Like this is, if ever there was some reason to believe in fate or some higher, this was all arrows were pointing to this is it, you know?
1:17:20O'Shea:You brought up Seamus. Yeah. Good dude. Oh, what a great dude. Good dude. He's amazing. He's like my brother. He is amazing. I don't know where it would be without him. Really? I spent about two, three months in Ireland for a movie. Shout out to Dalky. Oh, Dalky is so beautiful. That's nice. Did you come visit? I did not. This is before we started doing it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Dalky. Dalky is the best dude. Yeah, I was going to Super Value every day. Did you have the Super Value sausages? They used to be Super Quinn, now they're Super Value. No. I missed out. It's a restaurant or a grocery store?
1:18:03O'Shea:No, Doggy's a city. Doggy's a city. Oh, city. A little town. Gotcha, gotcha. And there's like a cliff that like we would watch these little kids jump off of and go into the ocean. And it was like, I would never. But. And that water's cold too. Yeah. Oh, it was like September, October. I had to get into a river in October in Ireland at four in the morning. Oh, God. That was crazy. Oh, man. Oh, is this for Denifees? No, this was for the Academy Award winning Cocaine Bear. Oh, my God. That movie rocks so hard. That's an Ireland movie. That was filmed in Ireland. I did not know that. Oh, God. That was such a good movie.
1:18:42Yeah, man.
1:18:43O'Shea:Ireland. Who knew? Shout out to Ireland. Yeah. Oh, that movie was so good, by the way. Thank you. Yeah. So good. It's our second Cocaine Bear conversation of the day. It's an incredible movie. Michael Irvin was, if you're familiar with Michael Irvin, former Dallas Cowboy, he back in his playing days got in trouble a little bit with said substance and we were talking about it today and he goes I saw a movie called Cocaine Bear and I had to watch so good so great while I was out there I was training for Den of Thieves 2 and me and Seamus had the same guy Paul Byrne Paul is the sweetheart of a man he gave me my first couple of pints of Guinness and it really does taste different.
1:19:29Paul Byrne.
1:19:30O'Shea:Paul Byrne, B-Y-R-N-E. No, Paul Burke. No, no, no, Paul Byrne. But yeah, he always would tell me how cool of a dude Sheamus was and then when we got to hang with him in Vegas, I was like, Sheamus was the man. He's the best. We hung out with him the night before WrestleMania? I think so. He's got such an energy about him. You know, just like a human puppy, you know? so full of energy and just like good vibes and good vibes and fun like he's so fun like i remember really struggling in nxt and he took me out to halloween horror nights and all the best and i needed it so much yeah and he got me uh and he gave me father ted dvds and the it crowd that means nothing to you listen anyway i know the it crowd oh i'm thinking that was a tv but it is it crowd but it's the IT crowd yeah yeah yeah Father Ted amazing yeah it's an Irish show about priests that live on Craggy Island it's incredible it's amazing shout out to Father Ted it's going to be a deep pool later so for next I'm going to throw two names at you you tell me what they mean Quinn Chulaylan and Madeline Daly Are they names that I submitted?
1:20:58I believe so Or maybe they brought to you There was Madeline Madeline Madeline Madeline Madeline But all I could think of Do you remember that little cartoon? The French cartoon It's Madeline Yeah right You know How did it go again? It's Madeline I couldn't tell you the intro But I remember
1:21:18O'Shea:They would all come out In a single file And then they walk into the street And there was like the nun Maybe she wasn't a nun Was it an orphanage? Was it like Matilda? I think it was I think it might have been an orphanage So that threw you off on her name? Madeline, that's the first thing you think of Yeah, it can't be She was like sweet and delicate What was it? I may not be very tall Oh yeah, you can't be You can't have that as your wrestling persona That's not tough and then there was Robin Daly and then there was yeah Quinn Cullen I think was another one yeah which was like from Coo Cullen who was like an Irish legend so then how'd you come up with Becky Lynch I don't know I think they put it together and I was like yeah probably be good to keep my first name but Lynch I don't like that but I don't have any anything better?
1:22:25I don't have they might fire me if I just keep pushing back so yeah that'll be it there she is there was no there was no real long foresight in that but yeah I was just I was just constantly scared of being fired I was like I am so lucky to be here just do not rock the boat in any capacity yes sir yes sir yes sir I will do more sir yes sir you know
1:22:50O'Shea:I was telling TJ the days before this interview, The Last Kicker was such a hard nickname. That's so good. And it's like The Last Kicker. It made too much, maybe even three months sense. It's just so good. And to this day, I still call you Last Kicker. Oh, The Last Kicker. Last Kicker. Like, ah. So whoever went into the board meeting with that one. Yeah, that was, I just, I had never said it, had never thought of it. And then that was just my first t-shirt. They just came out with Last Kicker. Yeah. And I was like, oh, I don't know that men are going to want to wear that t-shirt. Was my first response.
1:23:39Maybe we put Last Kicker back at Lick. Yeah. And then I think they, I think they, I think they quick, they had, I wasn't the only one to give that feedback. Okay, yeah. yeah but that was that was the first time i'd heard of of me being called the last kicker and
1:23:55O'Shea:i was like oh that's pretty cool yeah somebody drew that up and was like i got it yeah how i don't know who did it still to this day last kicker it's always someone you know in the back and behind the scenes who you know never will get the credit for what they do yeah you know it's like that lady in the nwo shirt right right yeah that was a whole thing without yeah they They found, Mark Raimondi wrote a book about the NWO, and he somehow found a woman who created the NWO logo. Oh, wow. She just sat at her computer and did it, and I don't even think she really got paid for it. The next thing you know, it was like one of the top-tellings.
1:24:35Biggest selling t-shirts. Great thing to have on your resume, though. Right? But I don't know that she even did. I've got to go back and reread it. We did a whole episode on it. Deep dive and find her. She had no idea. she had no idea she just sat down and made this logo and passed it off and went about her life and then she didn't like see it everywhere had to have that looks familiar
1:24:59O'Shea:that's up there with Austin 316 as far as shirts in terms of best sellers it's gotta be right 100 % how would you sum up your time in NXT gosh difficult very hard very trying um but with uh i came out with a lot of growth i think you know it was one of those things where nxt i don't know i i don't know if they purposely designed it like this or if it's just kind of a byproduct um but like it really felt like it broke you down and you had to either figure something out or you had to fight back you know like it brought something out of you where where you went into like really just i am the worst i am terrible i'm gonna get fired to no screw the system screw everybody i will fight back i'll be great you know i i think that's by like design you know i think they really tried to get that something out of you i think it's by design if not it's great byproduct if you if you can figure it out you know if you can get military right maybe yeah they break you all down when you go to the military to try to build you up in the way that they want you yeah now that you know hearing you say that out loud i know as a fan watching NXT, you will see somebody there, and it's been, it's been, what, two and a half, three years?
1:26:39O'Shea:Still down here. But we'd see, like, people kind of leapfrog them and get called to the main roster, and as a fan, you're like, how'd that happen? So I know, if I feel that as the fan, they gotta be thinking that in their head a little bit. It's gotta be creeping in there, and then that might be the moment that the wall is there. And it's like, if you can push through that, that moment of like, you feeling like you're supposed to be called up and things aren't going fair. If you could still grow in that. I mean, it feels like Oba, Trick and Javala were there forever. But they really weren't. Really weren't.
1:27:19O'Shea:You know? And now like, when we see, when we saw all those people graduate, that was all part of that thing. and then you see Kalani still there or you see like Jada and Lola and Tony D 'Angelo they're in that process right there they're having their moments so that's a good it's one of those things where you will the nature of it, you're going to compare yourself and like I very distinctly remember getting to a point of like it's not it's not my journey like that's i can't compare myself the more i keep comparing myself the more i'm pushing myself to be less special yes because that's them that's their journey that's what they're gonna do i have to be in my own lane you know and maybe it's figuring that out however that comes because you know it's one of those things where you're gonna imitate what you see whether it be uh naturally or just you know osmosis you know just you see what gets successful and you're like okay that's what's successful that's what i have to do and you have to figure out how to fight against that and go okay that's what's successful how do i be the opposite of that yeah how do i okay they're doing that they're going that way how do i go that way because everybody's natural inclination is oh we all got to go that way yeah but that's not going to get you you got to go in your own lane and i think that's part of the process too yeah man life or your destiny or whatever you want you know god in they all of those things never work in a straight line oh never never never but and sometimes they do for other people yeah right like sometimes it's bing bang boom like i want to go there and they're going to be there by next month you know sometimes your journey your journey ain't that you know what I mean it's gonna go all over the place but when you get there maybe it'll seem a little brighter yeah my dad said don't be too jealous of the person who got there a little faster than you because if you took the long way you guys reach the same place but your legs are stronger because you were walking longer yeah but also you know the other thing is like there's so much time you know and and it's that coming back to what we were saying earlier like you're always in a rush right you don't want to get that you don't you know i said this to uh one of the younger girls the other day you know like you don't want to you don't want to achieve too much right now right you want to be percolating you know because if you get there you're so young what else is there yes you gotta you gotta you gotta build you gotta make sure that like journey that yeah and that the audience wants it and that they're like galvanizing behind you and them bring you to it you know if you get it now yeah you see other people getting it you want that for yourself it's just that's not gonna be that's not gonna feel as good you know there's so much time because then you get to you know then you're you know one time two time three time fourth time then the audience they don't want to see you be like six times eight times nine times ten times champion you know but that's how it's going to go so the first time it's like when Chelsea won the title everybody's like yes this is amazing she did it everybody's happy because the first time they saw her journey to get there you know so I think it's all about like knowing your time and don't be in a rush it'll all happen if it's meant to happen when it's gonna happen all in due time you know we talk a lot about the other day we did we like to do lists here and we listed our favorite factions at one point you guys were technically not a faction but the impact that the four horse woman had is undeniable even though you technically were never it should have been a faction but you were all lumped together what did those three women mean to you in your development and throughout your career oh i think yeah everything you know like uh we pushed each other in such a way that we were so competitive but also at times at times supportive um and wanted wanted to see everybody do well and then at other times we were well no I want to have the best match on the card I want to be the best I want to be the top dog but that's kind of one of those things where you look at what everybody's doing you look at what Charlotte was doing and she was very much going her way and being a star and you know Bayley could look at that and go okay well now I do that and I be queen you know or Sasha now I be boss but like the fact that everybody was so different and individual and nobody tried to replicate what anybody else was doing.
1:32:39They were very individual. It was kind of like the Spice Girls.
1:32:43O'Shea:Yeah. In a way, you know what I mean? Like you had your ginger spice and your baby spice. Yeah, scary and sporty. Yeah, yeah. Like you had something that would appeal to a different audience so that we were all so distinct in how we looked and how we moved and who we were that it was just it was pretty perfect and I think that as well pushed us because you could compare but you were all so different too, you had to be individual but we all wanted to be the best especially Bailey Hogan like Bailey Hogan just really wanted to be the best he wanted to be the top yeah yeah she's um she's notorious for being a bit selfish and uh really trying to hold people down yeah that's the reputation that she has had to this day and to this day and it's accurate yeah yeah always hear about how you know she's always just been nothing but trouble and that is true i mean i hear it lodestone it's just like she's giving these women the the advice advice that Yeah, counter advice.
1:34:01She tells them. She's like, hey guys, do this. This will get you ahead.
1:34:08O'Shea:Yeah. The opposite. The exact opposite. Do the exact opposite. You think you know a person. You think you know a person. We're learning something new about the role model. Yeah. The role model. That's why everybody turns on her. You know what I mean? It makes sense. It makes so much sense. The amount of hostility in the back she causes. Everybody says it. She's so difficult to work with. She's selfish, always clamoring to be the top dog. Man, we're learning something new. Yeah, man. She never wants to extend a hand to anybody else. How dare she? Wow, Bailey. We got to get her back on here and have her.
1:34:49Bailey, you know? I mean, that's why I was the first woman to be on here and not Bailey because her reputation preceded her. Well, I mean... I mean, he's a heel. That's why he likes her. In studio. Yeah, yeah, in studio. In studio. That's what I'm saying. In studio. In studio. That's it. In this chair. Yeah, man. Yeah, you've said it. You're a heel. You're a heel. And who were you wearing the last time you were on TV at WWE? It was a Bayley shirt. Yeah, that I made. Exactly, that he made. Yeah. Kind of interesting. Yeah. Made my own gear. I mean, even he's conflicted. He doesn't want to pay for the merch He's like I'll kind of support her Because I'm a heel But like I know what she's doing So I don't know that I really want to pay my money Especially as a father of a young daughter Do I want her to follow in her footsteps?
1:35:44O'Shea:Oof If I could get her to be a wrestler Yeah I'm not having so much fun It's going to go out to masses bro When she was like four she saw Bianca and she saw Alexa and she was like Daddy, I want to do that. I was like, are you serious? I'm not going to pressure you. I'm not going to pressure you. But we should probably go in the living room now. So like she got behind the curtain playing music for her. She came out on her little karaoke machine and we're working on the promo. We're working on the promo. But it was like my auntie thinks she's going to win, but she's not. It's amazing. Straight to the point.
1:36:32Straight to the point. Cut the fash. Yeah.
1:36:35O'Shea:Her and my sister Karima, her auntie had like a 30-minute match. And that's because I was the ref. 30 minutes for her first match? I was the ref. So it was a lot of close call. Near falls. Near falls. Yeah, man. Wow. She already has the engine. Yeah. She has the endurance. And now she just started watching on her own. I had to send him the video when I found out because I was watching wrestling. But I kept hearing like a second, I hear wrestling somewhere else. She was behind the couch on her iPad just munching away watching CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, Hell in a Cell. And I told my sister and she goes, yeah.
1:37:17O'Shea:She called me one day and said, auntie, what's the match with the blood? So like, yeah, she watches on her own. It trips me out, dude. That's amazing. I love it. I wanted to ask you, with how you know you got into wrestling and where we've discovered here that you didn't see yourself like, I'm not going to like be a wrestler. What was it like to get that NXT time? Oh, as in, oh, when I went back. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah. She had so many titles she's Well no because I never won it While I was in NXT Yeah he jumped way ahead Then I went back and I got it Oh it was great Because I really wanted to In the spirit of Bayley Hold the NXT kids down Yes Finally You little punks For NXT to be what you just said That wall and all of that that's gotta feel good to be like I'm gonna need that it's like yeah it was like winning the Super Bowl and then like coming back to college and being like you know what I'm gonna win this tournament too which is funny you said that because that's what's going on in the NFL right now there are guys who are getting cut by NFL teams and then deciding they want to go back and play in college that's brilliant I encourage it amazing go for it you're all for getting out of college Going to the pros Going maybe I can't make it And then going back Yeah but I could make it I could make it And then I could go down to NXT And I could see what these young kids are doing Coming up And I could say Run me that I don't know about that I want that What are you going to do about that You going to get fired up Are you going to get fired up What you got What you got you punk cane By the way, that just reminds me of when she was slapping CM Punk.
1:39:20Dude! Yo! There's a moment.
1:39:25O'Shea:You were so mean to Adam Copeland, Edge. You had told him something one night about him, don't hurt your neck getting out of the ring. I just watched this yesterday. He was trying to tell you that the way you've been doing things, it's not good. And one day you're going to wake up and you're not going to like yourself and you were like, you're right. I don't like myself. I love myself. And then you said, don't hurt. Yeah.
1:39:56Condescending the man. Oh, here's what you're, I have a great life. Adam.
1:40:01O'Shea:How dare you? Yeah. And the people, what's worse, the people loved it. Yeah, it was great. They were just like, oh my God. Now, Becky, you've been so generous with your time here with us and we want to make sure we get you out of here soon. So there's so much we could talk to you about. I mean, you've accomplished and done so much, but I think let's just jump into kind of like the main thing. What is the main thing with you? Because there's so many main things, you know, and I'm not just saying it, everyone's saying it. Call me Daniel Lopez. But a lot of times fans say that our voices aren't heard, but yours is a specific case where we can look at and point to and say, in Becky's case, the fan's voice was heard.
1:40:47Because there was a point where we as fans felt you weren't giving it enough to do. You were in the back. I remember you used to do like limericks and stuff, right? I would do anything. Anything that you would do. And I think people just got to the point where like she's so much better than this. She deserves so much better. And the fans kind of let it be known. And then it kind of happened. The moment with you and Charlotte. you slapping her and then the whole man came about so let's go to that time period and like how did the concept of the man come because i feel like like i said you were yours was one where the fans go finally they hurt and we got what we wanted yeah it was it was one of those things where it was just i was sick of taking a back seat and that was kind of real that angst was real was like always almost getting the shot and then um never being the one that was picked never being the one that um they were going to hand the ball to and say yeah this is our this is our girl go on with it it was like even the first time that i won the smackdown women's championship first ever right yeah that wasn't the plan it wasn't wasn't the plan no but it was i think it was meant to go to nikki bella actually um who by the way had like a badass had just come back from her broken neck but the audience kind of liked me you know and they just once it was revealed they just started chanting Becky yeah and so kind of the office had to take notice of that and go well yeah all right I guess I guess we we gotta go with her yeah but I don't think the plan was ever going to be to give it to me again unless I took it and so that was that opportunity of like all right I'm not I'm not sitting around I'm gonna make this as interesting as I possibly can sometimes you know I did things that to be honest with you that I regret I said a lot of mean things that um that uh but you know it was all about selling the conflict or at least that's how i justified it to myself but that was it was it was i'm not sitting around anymore i i am i am great and i i am going to claim my greatness yes and uh and it was both it was one of those things that was kind of lightning in a bottle because the crowd was ready for it i had now i was now ready for it in a way that i was not the first time that i won that smackdown women's championship i was all about like but let's all succeed you know and then i watched other people like take take it and be like this is my time this is my shot i'm gonna i'm gonna run with it and now i had gotten to a point where i was like when it's my time i'm going to take it and i'm going to run with it and i was the man so when did like when that concept come where you go i'm going to run with the man oh it was well the top dog in sports it's always been the man yeah man tom brady's the man i'm the top dog i'm the man well that was hard that was hard right so yeah 2019 You win the Royal Rumble match And then you get the main event Of Wrestlemania 35 Triple threat first woman to ever Main event Wrestlemania How did that feel?
1:44:25Oh it was unreal That was one of those things Where it was like Okay just make sure you enjoy it Make sure you enjoy it
1:44:35O'Shea:Yeah I just remember having a distinct memory Of like soak every moment up you know maybe to the point that I actually didn't soak every moment up because I was thinking like are you enjoying it is this fun are we having fun are we having fun I think we're having fun we're having fun guys you know but it was also very late and I was also conscious of that it's like I think the trains yeah it was like was that the last solo night that was the last yeah that was the last one night that's also great to have close it down shut it down and said after that we're doing two of these solid I gotta know because we had a friend of the show Nia Jax and the moment which I think led to one of the greatest shots ever let alone on the women's side of wrestling just in the history of the WWE you with the blood across the face arms extended What a gift My god I remember that night I put on Twitter And I'm gonna have D-Lo put this in the episode I went on Twitter and I said Becky Lynch You were already a star But She just had her star making moment Bloody face Arms out People losing their mind And I was like This is a movie It's a wrap now It is a movie right now I have no recollection No?
1:46:07No way I have like little bits of a recollection, but like none of that was my doing. That was all Naya. Thanks, Naya. No, really, honest to God, like it's one of those things like you can never, you never plan these things. But it's fate, the destiny, you know, it was if if that didn't happen, maybe I don't. If that doesn't happen, I don't get to the main event of WrestleMania. And that's all thanks to Naya. and of course she felt terrible about it but it was the best thing that could have ever happened to me at that time so thanks but like yeah I didn't I was out So when you make your way up the stairs and you're standing there arms outstretched you don't really I remember knowing
1:47:03O'Shea:okay stay here until the light goes off yeah and i remember looking at the light and then the light went off and i was like okay walk through and i remember our security guard keith i think it was keith uh i was like where am i what just happened like and i then i was and i i had no clue how it happened so i thought i was like is my neck broken my like my neck hurts yeah it was like oh yeah so So I went from being this like badass, tough guy to Stephanie McMahon was there just being the sweet angel that she is. And like being like, I'm really scared, you know? Like just this like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
1:47:46Two different sides of me.
1:47:49O'Shea:It was a moment. Iconic. now one thing that I didn't get to ask you from the beginning because you are a fan even though you tried to hide your fandom but Mick Foley brought you back can you remember any time as a fan where wrestling broke your heart oh Mick Foley yeah Mick Foley it was him losing to Triple H I'm retired I have so many him losing to Triple H's yes yeah you know
1:48:24but then he came back four weeks later and the main event at Wrestlemania
1:48:29O'Shea:yeah but that broke my heart we haven't asked that question he was only 36 he was young too which is crazy when we talk about the age when I heard that person I can't even remember I'm only 27 It's like, oh, and you know, The Rock was already on his way out by 30. Right. You know, which I was, yeah, anyway. Yes. It's crazy. And 36, like nowadays, he'd be one of the younger top stars, you know? Speaking of Rock. I'm 35. You played Cyndi Lauper. I did play Cyndi Lauper. How was that experience? Oh, it was great. You were great as Cyndi. Thanks. By the way, I still pound the table, Cyndi Lauper. I don't understand why she's not in the WWE Hall of Fame.
1:49:23Like, when I was a kid, obviously I'm older than both of you, that rock and wrestling connection and MTV was so big. And she was so vital, her and Captain Lou Albano. Oh, yeah. You know, and what they did with Roddy Piper. And basically, WrestleMania 1 does not exist without Cyndi Lauper. Yeah. I mean, no, I imagine it'll happen, you know. I think it's always next year. True. They're not ending the Hall of Fame anytime soon. But yeah, you did that. You were also in Happy Gilmore 2. You know, you did Star Trek, Starfleet Academy. So are you interested in getting into more acting? I like doing it.
1:50:02Yeah. Yeah, I like doing it. Yeah, it's beautiful. No, yeah, it's one of those things where the opportunities come up. Great, wonderful, amazing. I love it. It's something that I love diving into. Like sometimes there is just the things in front of you. Like, you know, right now I've got all that's happening in WWE and I'm loving where I'm at right now. and I've got this wonderful, amazing family, incredible hot husband and my wonderful daughter. And, you know, I think what I've come to the realization of, I can't divide myself up so much, as much as I have been in the past. Like I got to, I got to, I got to, you know, because now she's in school.
1:51:03So we can't like, before we could just up and go and move off to New Jersey for a month, doing Happy Gilmore, and off to Canada for a month to do, or a few months to do Star Trek, and all over the place, and down to Memphis for Young Rock. And so now it's kind of about making sure that the opportunities align with family, with work, with all the other things. Amazing.
1:51:31O'Shea:I just wanted to be known that I bought my sister the Marine Six. for Christmas. Nice. Marine 6. Very underrated movie. I'm telling you. Incredible performance by Shawn Michaels. My bad for not making it. Never even seen one through five. But six. You know, I think they live on their own. They live on an island. Six, best one by far. No, I think I saw like, I think I watched a few of them. Can I rapid fire some questions for you? We're going to put this on Twitter. I'm just going to, I used to do this thing on the show called This or That and I would just ask people random questions So I'll just rapid fire these real quick at you.
1:52:08Think of someone in your brain that annoys you. You don't have to say it out loud. Okay. Wait, hang on. Okay, hang on. Gosh, how nice is that that that's kind of hard? Like in real, can they be like a public figure? Yeah, anyone. Probably not Bailey. I don't believe it's going to be Bailey. No. But maybe it is. You said Bailey. Am I going to have to say it? No. Name it? I don't want to say it. But here's the deal. You got them in your head? Got it. All right. So you're stuck on a deserted island. Would you rather be alone or with the person that annoys you the most? Alone. Alone, okay. Regret or doubt?
1:52:46Would you rather have regret about not doing something or doubt that you could do something? Oh, I'd rather have doubt. Yeah, doubt you can overcome. Regret, there's no taking back. Person you'd switch places with for a day.
1:53:08gosh uh
1:53:15um maybe just you know i think my husband i knew it well because you know i just like his brain seems so nice like he's so he's so smart um he's just like the smartest and he's the most level and he's the greatest dad and he's so patient and his way of looking at everything and wrestling and always like being able to have a 360 view of things and then making a decision and then just never being too reactive and just being perfect like i oh god what's that like and then i i want to be like how yeah like see what he sees in me How do you put up with this woman? Listen, stop it. What never fails to make you laugh?
1:54:12Oh, like as in, well, like my daughter, but also two scenes. You know the scene in Extras with Ian McKellen? Oh, wow.
1:54:25O'Shea:Yeah. Do you know the one that I'm talking about? No, I know Extras. Oh, my God. It's amazing. like there's another thing to look up Ricky Gervais comes in and Sir Ian McKellen is sitting there and Ricky Gervais is going for an audition for a part and Ian McKellen explains what acting is to him and it's just anytime I'm in a bad mood I just watch it and it makes me smile and then the other is the scene in Once Upon Time in Hollywood where Rick Dalton, Leonardo DiCaprio, and he's like, it's official, old buddy. And him talking to Brad Pitt. You don't want to cry in front of the Mexicans? Yeah. It's just so good.
1:55:16And he's like, oh, well, what did that guy tell you in there? I gotta go to... He wants to help me get into Italian movies. Well, what's wrong with that? I gotta do goddamn f***ing Italian goddamn movies. You know, it's just so good. and then he gets into the car and he's like it doesn't matter if I cry in public no one remembers who the fuck I am it's so good and I feel like that sometimes I've probably watched that movie this is no lie 70 times I've watched it I've watched it on at least 12 different flights like I love that movie so good it's amazing so those two scenes if ever I need like a little pick me up they'll do it best compliment you ever got I'm a good mom oh yeah that's it that's awesome
1:56:06O'Shea:I remember when my daughter told me she loved me without me saying it first melt you boohooed the entire day so we got one more we got more than what alright well you said so I thought that was the good idea I was gonna set this up I don't see Becky being out in bars too much but if she was if she was the last kicker big question here for us you're in a bar I'm in a bar like an actual bar trying to enjoy yourself my god there's 50 ladies at this bar and they got a problem with Becky Lynch they got a problem with the man this is ladies night and the man shouldn't be here so alright thank you What's their problem?
1:56:57O'Shea:They just don't like you for some reason. A couple of haters. You know, there's hate. Like Enzo would say, we got, oh, what do we got here? A couple of haters. I need you to pick a team of you and four female superstars of any era. Any era. To make sure the man leaves the building. We call this our bar fight crew. Okay. All right. Bianca Belair. 100%. Right hand man. She's right there with me. Yeah. Her, 100%. Gosh And then you know I gotta Alita's gotta be in there Okay Alita in there My hero And then Natty man We gotta go Let's go We've been Like I said I've known her I've known her Longer than I haven't known She's right there too So how many do we got there You got one more Bianca Alita Natty you Yes Alright Alright Okay Okay Do you know what All right, we've done the past.
1:58:00O'Shea:Bianca, Maddie, Lita, yourself, and... Do you know what? I can't stand her. I can't stand her. Even better. I cannot stand this little weirdo. I've always said it. But she's a little unpredictable. And we've done the past. We've done the present. Let's do the future. I'll stick Looney Lyra in there What did I write for you? Little Looney Lyra I wrote her name before you She's so jacked She is so jacked So jacked Whatever you say about her She is jacked She's a little lunatic A little weirdo Little weirdo Awful human being Another awful human being Terrible Yeah, although she did see the light You know, she won't admit that she saw that But she saw the light on Baby 2 I tried to warn her.
1:58:54How about that? I tried to warn her. I was right about everything. So it's funny. You mentioned Bianca and said you guys were friends. You probably won't remember this, but years ago, you called into the Rich Eisen show, and you and I had a little bit of a discussion, and I think we can show you this right here if we can. Well, I got a question, but before that, you brought up the haircut on Monday, and I'm sorry to see that happen. But Becky, I mean, you saw the Oscars, right? You know you can't mess with these queens' hair. sometimes bad things happen so but you are rocking the haircut very nicely so hang on let's bring this back let's bring this back a second do you remember why i went for her hair i do remember see bianca has a braid and uh she she kind of slapped becky with it and left the mark so becky was coming for it not not just left the mark she scarred my body scarred you for life Yes, potentially, possibly, probably not.
1:59:52But she did attempt to. And so, of course I was going to go after her. It's an illegal weapon. It was an illegal weapon that she was using in the match. The audacity, Becky Lynch, the audacity. The audacity. And if we look at history, we look at last year's WrestleMania. When Bianca won the main event of WrestleMania against Sasha Banks, how did she win? She hit her with her braid right before the finish and then got her into the KOD. And so, like any sane person would, I was trying to cut her hair off to preserve my win at WrestleMania. Yeah, to take away that weapon. I get it. Look, I understand why you did it.
2:00:27You know, I'm just saying, though. So I just figured we'd go back to that. For someone who's friends, you tried to cut her braid off. I did. Gotta have the weapon on her side. I had great logic. Your logic was wrong. Great sound logic. It really was. And let us not forget how that ended. I got a mullet. All right? Yes. So who was the bad guy there?
2:00:54O'Shea:Big shades. Had the mullet. What a time. Becky. I will say. We will say this. Still my favorite storyline. Yeah? Yeah. It was fun. Well, Becky, we got to let you know this. You are now NCW family. You were NCW for life. So we'll let you know when we keep our spare key. We always tell people they can come in, visit whenever they want. And I can use the gym. You can use the gym, break the fridge, put your feet on the couch. Could be pumping stuff, but alas. Yeah, right. But before we let you go, on your Hall of Fame bus, we're going to have a video screen, right? And in a loop, we're going to play three Becky Lynch matches.
2:01:33If someone had never seen Becky Lynch the man, what three matches would you like to run in perpetuity that would let people know who you were and what you were about? Oh my goodness gracious. Gosh, what matches would I pick? God, what have been some of my favorites? I would pick Bianca and me at WrestleMania 38. Okay. I would pick Sasha and me at Hell in a Cell. Yeah. last match I watched last night really? yeah we do our research I really enjoyed that match by the way real quick one thing when you guys put the kendo sticks into the cage and you stuck a chair on the cage and you put Satcha on the cage then you drop kicked her I was like I've never seen anybody do that before that was a wacky one and then God what other match would I pick maybe Maybe, uh...
2:02:46God, there was a... I've always loved wrestling Oscar.
2:02:52O'Shea:That's his favorite of all time. But I feel like I need to diversify here. Maybe I'd do a mix. Do you know what match I really loved? Is the one with me and Colby, Seth, versus Punk and AJ. I really enjoyed that. We were there. We were first row for that one. Yeah, you know. That was really fun. The way you guys descended from the top. Seth said you were a little bit nervous. I was terrified. He was like, oh, this isn't so bad. Isn't it? Honey? Honey? Hello? Honey? You okay? Yes, sir, I'm fine.
2:03:34Wow, man. Well, this has been amazing. Yeah, this has been great. I mean, we could go for another two hours, so that just means we've got to get you back at some point. Oh, I'll be back. Before 200. And yeah, you gotta get old Seth Rollins on. Yeah, we had to make sure we got you first. Chivalry. Chivalry. Chivalry. Look at that. Look at a little bit of chivalry.
2:03:55O'Shea:I did promise you that we would tell you about his Undertaker story. So we was at Fanatics Fest. Oh, yes. Before we let you go. Yeah, we was at Fanatics Fest. And first of all, we've been trying to keep our cool all day. Everybody is at this. Yes. It's like, we walk in, and it's the first time I met Triple H. And so, like, we just chatted up with Triple H, taking pictures of Triple H. And then as soon as we get to the green room, we was like, you know. What a walk on him, by the way. Like, the walk. It just has the walk. The shoulders is here. Yeah, the shoulders are out there. Every time he walks, what a walk on you.
2:04:36O'Shea:Fast forward to, like, you know, we're just talking, you know, like real just still haven't really come down from meeting Hunter. And then we meet Stephanie. And then, you know, my man TJ's eating. I go to say hi to Stephanie. I get embraced. Oh, she's sweet, sweetest woman. I'll say my tag team partner's over there. Because I'm like, all right, I'm not going to go bother her. I'm just going to sit here and eat this sub. And she goes, let's go say hi to him. So I see those two 10 seconds after he walked away, walking back towards me. I'm trying to get in my eyes. I'm trying to get in my eyes. What's going on?
2:05:14O'Shea:I'm in my mouth. We meet Steph. She's like, I heard you didn't want to come meet me. I was like, whoa, chill. I was a little nervous, maybe. Later in the day, we interviewed Rey Mysterio. We were all clout. It was a great thing. They're just the nicest. What a sweetest man. Well, our buddy says he's a deadbeat dad, so whatever. That's not for us to say. That's our friend. Dom said he wanted a Benz and he got him a BMW. So what do you mean? Gosh, there is somebody who did say, I can't remember who it was, but they said if you ever find somebody that talks bad about Rey Mysterio, punch him in the face because you know they're a liar.
2:05:57That's not what I'm saying. That's what they say. By the way, what - It's not me saying. Another thing I love when sometimes you'll just be face to face with somebody and you'll just sock them in the mouth out of nowhere. I love that. the amount of people you just punched in the mouth for no reason me too God but that never makes them as big of a star Maya really has that she has that charm why isn't it working for you yeah I was trying to help you
2:06:23O'Shea:worked for me so it's like we're winding down we did our show and you know Fanatics Fest is kind of dying out we go to a different green room and Taker is in the far corner of the great room. So I'm like, I gotta go say hi to Taker. Like, this was like my original guy. And I talked to him. You know, everything's cool. I take her. Yeah, he signs my title. Blah, blah, blah. And then, and then he meets TJ. And TJ goes, would you say, what's up? Or did you say, hey? Either or, man. He said, hey, what's up, Mark? Who the f*** do you think you are? Yeah. To the Undertaker. I said that and I went, oh.
2:07:12And what did he say? I was like, yo, you know what? I am so sorry. His name is Mark. He did the podcast and everything. So now it's like the curtain. He's finally, after 40 years, let the curtain been peeled. And for some reason, I thought I knew this dude. I was like, what's up, Mark? And I went, oh. I was like, you know what? I am so sorry. I called you by your government name. Did I mean that? He goes, well, he goes, honestly. I'm a little looser about that nowadays than I would have been back in the day. I was like, man, I wish I could have just seen a little bit of back in the day. Yeah, so he wanted me to get, you know, tombstoned because I called him Mark.
2:07:50Yeah, that was my bad.
2:07:51O'Shea:We would have gotten tombstoned. That was my bad. That's amazing. Well, yeah, so I make sure I never let him forget. And he's told this story at least 25 episodes. Yeah, on the pod every time. I can't believe it. God, it is so different, right? like back in the day. Oh my God. Well, he would never be doing a podcast or sitting at a fanatic's face back in the day. He'd be dressed all black, not speaking. But isn't that like so funny that calling somebody by their name? Yeah. And it wasn't anything he did. That was my own reaction to like, what did you just call this dude? I didn't know him. First time I met CM Punk, I was like, do I call you Punk?
2:08:29O'Shea:And he was like, you call me Phil. And then when we're at Russ Palooza and he's on the ground, I'm like, Phil, it does not look good right now. He goes, government names? I was like, dude, you told me to only call you Phil. Yeah. Anyway. I also told Seth he landed in front of us. This was right after the ruse of the century. And I have all this on video, by the way. I leaned down and was like, yo, Seth, get up, bro. They ain't going to buy it this time. And I think he heard me because he just kind of rolled away from me. Guys, this has been amazing. This has been one of the best yap fests we've ever had.
2:09:04O'Shea:our 100th episode could not have gone any better you are a delight you are you are everything advertised and more and man you made this episode thanks guys thanks so much for having me I feel like we just went all over the place in the convo but that's what we do I feel like I really rambled at some point but I do think I'm a little hungry I think so it's definitely time to get her out of here on behalf of because if she goes to hangry then we're going to get punched in the mouth we'll be disarmed so on behalf of my podcast partner TJ Jefferson I am O'Shea Jackson Jr make sure you have a good day but not too good because who the hell you think you are right bye Miss Parker and we got Becky Lynch and Becky Lynch the man 100th episode we'll see y 'all on 101 Don't get punched in the mouth.
