In short

NFL Week 2 recap and “Overreaction Monday” takes, focusing on game strategy, quarterback performances, and early-season team narratives.

Guests

No guests appear; the hosts are Rich Eisen and Chris Brockman (with Noah Hunt mentioned as the source of a “Tweet of the Week”).

Key claims

Chiefs-Colts OT showed questionable Colts overtime play-calling (run-first, then giving Mahomes the ball second) and a controversial Laquan Treadwell fumble reversal. Browns’ Deshaun Watson should be the starter after an efficient win vs. the Buccaneers (24/30, 238 yards, 2 TD). Brock Purdy is elite (20/22 vs. Dolphins; 91% completion) despite receiver injuries. Bengals’ defense is the early AFC standout (8 sacks in two games; Texans limited). Seahawks’ JSN is a breakout star (9 catches, 155 yards, 3 TDs) and the team’s defense is strong.

Notable examples

Jamar Chase’s two TDs including a “clubhouse leader” toe/feet catch; Saints’ Derek Carr? (Tyler Shuck) rally vs. Ravens (15-0 in 4th); Raiders’ rookie coach start and Max Crosby forcing six fumbles; Vikings defense turning 59-point opponent into 3.

0:00Rich Eisen:Many people's first serious relationship didn't start with a kiss. It started with a kickoff. Or perhaps it was love at first hike. But unfortunately, many of these football lovers don't live in the same city as their team. Which is why Marriott Bonvoy has hotels close to nearly every NFL stadium. Bringing fans closer to the teams they love with over 30 different hotel brands. So if you want to stay closer to your team, check in for game day with Marriott Bonvoy, the official sponsor of the NFL. We'll see you there.

0:35Rich Eisen:All righty. It's time for a week two edition of Overreaction Monday presented by Marriott Bonvoy. Check in for game day with Marriott Bonvoy, the official sponsor of the NFL.

0:51Chris Brockman:What's up, Chris Brockman? Hey, you know, what was it, though? The line that was used in the group chat? Week one was drunk and week two is hung over. that's pretty much what it was

1:00Rich Eisen:at least the early games there wasn't a lot of scoring and then as the day progressed with two massive quarterback injuries that will reverberate for who knows how long as of this recording of overreaction Monday we say hello to our YouTube viewers youtube.com slash richeyesenshow to watch overreaction Monday every single Monday and then throughout the week too you can listen to it on our podcast network, wherever you get your podcasts. Ready, Christopher? Let's do it, baby. Hit it, hit it. That was terrible. That was crap. That was garbage. This play sucks.

1:38Chris Brockman:Overreaction. Mondays.

1:40Rich Eisen:Monday.

1:41Chris Brockman:Christopher, what do you have for me today? All right, we got to start with that Sunday night game. Best game of the day. Went to overtime. Chiefs, Colts. Great game. Great teams. Both teams look great. Both quarterbacks coming back from injury look really good, too. I thought Daniel Jones played a good game, but Patrick Mahomes was awesome. And it goes to OT. And look, Indy, knowing you're playing the Chiefs, the Colts should have gone for it on fourth and eight in OT.

2:06Rich Eisen:No, I didn't think so. 30 minutes left.

2:10Chris Brockman:You're giving the ball back to Mahomes. Like, come on. We all know how that game was in.

2:13Rich Eisen:No, I know that it had that feel of the calls are coming from within the house. I think if you're looking at anything here, okay, If you're looking at anything about the way that Shane Steichen approached overtime, that you can second guess, it would be willingly. The two run plays? Willingly giving the football to Patrick Mahomes first. After Mahomes had just finished the game with the ball, even though they didn't do anything with it, because there really wasn't that much time left to matriculate the ball close enough down the field. You see I'm using the Hank Stram phrase for the Chiefs. Thanks so much, everybody.

2:55Rich Eisen:You're professional. Tip your waitress. I'll be here all week. Maybe. You're going to get hurt again. That's true. I don't know. I shouldn't say that. After last week. I'm out of appendixes. So that I would say willingly giving the ball to Mahomes first. Now, there's two ways to think about it. Because that's, to me, the fascinating part about overtime in that game last night is the strategy was on full display about what do you do if you take the ball second you know exactly what you need to do you can go for it on fourth downs which you can't do when you get the ball first and we all know you know hey you you don't give the ball to mahomes second in overtime you just don't do that because that is how kyle shanahan spent an entire offseason getting lit up because he took the ball first in the Super Bowl and then gave the ball second to Mahomes, letting him know exactly what he needs to do to march down the field.

3:59Rich Eisen:When everybody lit Shanahan up for that, the problem in all of that lighting Shanahan up is the Chiefs held the Niners to just three points. That's all the Niners could put up was just three points in that Super Bowl. So there's two rules of thought here. But when you give the ball up first, you do allow the opponent that you give the ball to a second opportunity to possess it in overtime. Especially when 10 minute regular season. In regular season, it's only 10 minutes long. Whereas in the playoffs is as long as it needs to be. So by going up top to Laquan Treadwell. What a gutsy play call. Gutsy play call.

4:44Rich Eisen:Amazing, bro. That took most of the field away. Now, I know you're trying to go for the touchdown and win the game right there. Yeah. But when Treadwell, that was wild. Wild. That he goes down, then he gets up, then he fumbles. Wait a minute. He had just possessed the football in his hands at the moment that LeJarius Sneed last brushed his hip. Wild. And thus, he is now down by contact. The fumble got taken off the board.

5:12Chris Brockman:In real time, you couldn't see him bobble it.

5:14Rich Eisen:So when they showed the replay, you're like, oh, he was bobbling it.

5:18Chris Brockman:Maybe this is a fumble.

5:19Rich Eisen:Right. And for a split second, I did think that he was going to actually not be down by contact. And the fumbles over. And then the fact that the refs reversed the call on replay. Okay. It was kind of shocking. To take the win away from the Chiefs in overtime on Sunday Night Football in front of the Chiefs kingdom in Arrowhead means I don't want to hear any more that the refs are in the Chiefs pocket. Okay? That narrative is boom, toast. but all together putting it all together when you go ahead and take away most of the field that you need to traverse knowing now you can't take up most of overtime right you do need to score a touchdown i understand you're saying go for it on fourth and eight go for it but the way that the Chiefs did play their, the way that the Chiefs did play their, their defense did not work out for the Colts to the point where they had to tap out of it.

6:30Chris Brockman:I hated the two run calls on first and second down. I get it. You're trying to eat some clock. You have to, but dude, like, and you have Jonathan Taylor, you have the balls to throw a bomb on your first play. Like I get it. Keep that aggressive. Keep that energy.

6:44Rich Eisen:I think the second guess more than anything is giving the ball, like willingly saying, I have a choice to keep it or give it to Patrick Mahomes when he's clearly, by the way, and this is the point. He looks great. He looks terrific. He looks no worse to wear. Kelsey looks as in shape and as dominant as he's ever been. And now you add Kenneth Walker to the mix. Oh, my gosh. With some receivers making plays. I mean, Taequann Thornton's catch on third and forever. Where the hell was that in New England? was unreal. Yeah. Okay. And Worthy caught a touchdown. And Rasheed Rice looks fast. And the kid, they drafted the running back from Nebraska.

7:27Chris Brockman:Oh, man, Emmitt Johnson. He looks terrific. He's like, choop, choop.

7:30Rich Eisen:Okay. And so the rookies that they got, the Chiefs being 2-0 tied with the Raiders, is a fascinating story through two weeks. Okay.

7:40Chris Brockman:All right. Okay. Man, we're off and running. Let's talk about the longest game in NFL history. The Browns beating the Bucs. Here's the thing, Rich. Beating the Bucs. Here's the thing. Blowing up Survivor tribal councils everywhere. I'm out. You know what? I'm kind of relieved to be out of guillotine and Survivor after two weeks. I don't have to worry about it now. One less stress in my life.

8:00Rich Eisen:Okay, that's one way to look at it.

8:02Chris Brockman:I can focus on gambling. Here's the thing, Rich. Deshaun Watson has proven he deserves to be the Browns starter this week and beyond.

8:07Rich Eisen:I'm about the and beyond, but this week you bet he does. And I'll just say this as well. When you look at Deshaun Watson's performance in this game compared to Baker Mayfield's. He outplayed him. He did the job. And this is not at all why I'm saying this, but I have to make the point. Okay. Deshaun, nobody in the media wanted you to throw for 400 yards and five touchdowns. Right. This performance, this moment, coming through, coming through with the touchdown pass on a play call that was a brilliant play call by Munkin and the rest of the staff, making sure that you executed these plays, making sure you didn't turn the football over.

8:55Rich Eisen:That's what we're talking about. An efficient 24 for 30, 238 pass yard, two passing touchdown, First time throwing multiple passing touchdowns in a game since September 22nd, almost the two-year anniversary of it in 2024 against the Giants. This is only his sixth game since then. This is why we're talking about Watson, because his availability was part of his problem. This is the performance we're talking about. And Browns fans who want to see Shador Sanders, you may get to see him at some point in time. And Browns fans who wanted to see something from the Browns, This is what you have.

9:35Chris Brockman:Huge win.

9:36Rich Eisen:This is the gumption that you want to see. This is the performance you want to see by the youngins. And you got the win. And Todd Munkin coming up to the podium afterwards.

9:48Chris Brockman:This guy.

9:49Rich Eisen:His sound bite. I don't know if we can cue that thing up since we didn't have it planned for this. But this is what I'm talking about with Todd Munkin, man. with him basically saying Browns are going to be the Browns, F that. That's a T-shirt. That's a mantra. That's something that Browns fans can say, heck yeah, Browns are going to Browns, F that. Yep. Good for them, man. Good for the fans. This is what the media and the fans wanted to see. So, yes, does he deserve to start against the Carolina Panthers in week three? 100%. 100 % he does. Beyond, though, that one I don't know. I mean, and that's the nature of the beast here.

10:32Rich Eisen:Yeah. And I think Munkin, this is exactly what a massive win it is because Munkin's like, I see things on tape. And Browns fans are like, you know. We're watching the games. No, no. They're like the sixth sense saying, we see dead people. Yeah. Okay. Spoiler alert. And Munkin's like, I tell the players who's going to play and their job is to execute. and everybody's in Cleveland's like saying, we have a set of eyes, okay? And if this thing fell flat, what a massive Monday conundrum he would have. Instead, Browns are going to Browns F that. Deshaun Watson's the starter. Even Browns fans have got to sit there and go, okay, let's see what we got.

11:16Rich Eisen:And show up and bark. Not boo, best you can. But of course, if the performance warrants it, do what you got to do. that's the and beyond part i'll say is an overreaction but the week this week you're right

11:29Chris Brockman:and they play carolina this week and that's kind of a sneaky fun game fun game that's a fun game

11:32Rich Eisen:because carolina went from giving up 59 yeah and uh what felt like putting 59 in a land right yeah and and now they only gave up three bryce young one of three quarterbacks over 600 yards this year And by the way, the Bears scored 59 and then only scored three.

11:53Chris Brockman:The first two weeks are crazy. What else? What else you got? I love it. I want to keep talking about quarterback play. And I know this was the biggest spread of the weekend. And it was seemingly an easy 49er win. But Brock Purdy is balling. And he is playing the best of any quarterback in the NFL other than Josh Allen.

12:11Rich Eisen:Other than Josh Allen. Okay. Yeah. I can't argue this. I mean, I don't have every stat in front of me here of other quarterbacks, but Purdy was 20 of 22 against the Dolphins. That's a 91 % completion. And 287 pass yards. He ran one and threw two in. He becomes the second player in NFL history with 250 better or more passing yards on 90 % completion in multiple games. The other is Derek Carr. so um make that what you will and everybody else has their head on a swivel uh both kittle and use check scored touchdowns um in the air and uh for both of them both of both of the touchdowns that they caught for both of the each of the guys uh gave them 10 straight seasons with a touchdown for the 49ers joining jerry rice joe perry frank gore and billy wilson is the only other ones to do it and you know christian mcafree did it again yeah two tutties from mcafree his 100th all-time 100th uh scrimmage touchdown um and he's now done it in 114 games that's the fourth fastest in the history of the nfl uh you know who used to be fourth who's now fifth jerry rice um and he now has 50 more touchdown uh touchdown scored for multiple franchises joining marshall Falk and Randy Moss in that department.

13:40Rich Eisen:Wow. Both of those guys are in the Hall of Fame. But this is about Purdy. Yeah. He's playing great. I don't believe this is an overreaction, especially when the 49ers are losing receivers left and right. Mike Evans left the game yesterday. Right. And Demarcus Robinson went down, too. He got carded off. But after the game, Shanahan was asked if Brandon Ayukes is an option. He just looked at the reporter and went, no. Basically, I shouldn't say it. He didn't say it. like as dismissively as you just did he was he was just dismissive not just completely dismissive i strenuously object uh but this you you can't argue with it perdo's been terrific and the the niners were atop my power rankings uh after um two weeks well i mean yeah even third i had him i had him um yeah i had him third third yeah yeah yeah so still talking about bills are taught my power rankings and you got seattle just out of respect yeah um and and they also look terrific with jsn doing jsn things um and then the niners yeah and part of that is because of purdy with all of these receivers going down i know and then you look at the niners next few games uh two more at home arizona which just got the bang thing put on them by seattle and then denver at home before their first game at seattle which is a massive week five game and we assume sam donald is going to be back for all of that so what else you got over there chris uh i want to talk about this

15:05Chris Brockman:because you know week one's a liar and they you know they win at home and they force a bunch of turnovers you know like huh maybe they are improved and they're kind of carrying this team right now then the bangles go to houston and did what they did on sunday and led by the defense the bangles are the best team in the afc i'll call that an overreaction for the moment um

15:29Rich Eisen:yeah their defense is vastly improved i don't think you can argue that right now right

15:33Chris Brockman:absolutely not i mean eight sacks for the first two games it took them five games last year

Read the full transcript

15:38Rich Eisen:to get to eight sacks yeah they allowed six points they're fewest in a road game since week 13 of 2015 i mean held the held the texans to 18 yards rushing they they have 1000 percent improved that side of the football. And at this point in time, Burrow hasn't gone on that 400-yard tilt yet. He has not. And Jamar Chase, after just having 12 receiving yards in week one, seven catches, 75 receiving yards. Two touchdowns. We're kind of a ho-hum. There's nothing ho-hum about that first touchdown.

16:10Chris Brockman:No, I mean ho-hum with the catches and yards.

16:11Rich Eisen:That first touchdown catch that Jamar Chase had.

16:14Chris Brockman:How'd he get his feet down?

16:15Rich Eisen:Well, he stumbled. He stumbled as the ball was nearing him. and then he turns around, locates the football. I don't know how he kept his feet while locating the football and then got both feet down while going down to the ground and maintaining possession of the ball. Is the clubhouse leader catch of the year? And I don't know how that's not going to be part of the NFL honors ceremony here in Los Angeles before Super Bowl 61, man. I mean, that's a clubhouse leader. It's going to be tough to knock out. And then the second touchdown. That's so sick. And then the second touchdown that he scored was on a Burrow sort of jailbreak to the right.

16:59Rich Eisen:And he rerouted himself when Burrow was like sort of pointing in a direction as if these guys haven't been playing each other at two different levels of football. Right. So it's only going to start getting better there. You would think, too. Higgins had another terrific game before Chase caught fire. Chase Brown on top of it. Um, and, and it looks like this is going to be a team to beat. I did choose them to win the AFC North. Yep. Yeah. I think they, and the Ravens are going to come. It's going to come down to the two of them. But the bills have looked superb and the chiefs are also two and oh, true.

17:36Chris Brockman:But they're both giving up a lot of points. I'm talking about defense here. I think the Bengals defense is better than both Kansas city and Buffalo at this point. And when the offense kind of catches up, like I said last week, Joe Burrow got a matcher D when that comes, Cincinnati's not going anywhere. The Chiefs defense, I know, got lit a bit. Kind of gashed a little bit by Jonathan Taylor.

17:56Rich Eisen:But that's what Jonathan Taylor does to most teams. Chiefs short week as well, even though I know they didn't travel. I'm just going to call this an overreaction for the moment because the Bills are a wagon. And I know you're talking about both sides of the ball. I'm talking about complete. The Bills have given up more than 30 points in going 2-0, and it's been a while since we've ever seen something like that. but there was a garbage touchdown they gave up as well towards the end of last week all right so i'm gonna just call this an overreaction but i'm bangles are for real i am picking up that that that that is not an overreaction i'm picking up what you're putting down is essentially what i'm saying many people's first serious relationship didn't start with a kiss it started with a kickoff or perhaps it was love at first hike but unfortunately many of these football lovers don't live in the same city as their team, which is why Marriott Bonvoy has hotels close to nearly every NFL stadium, bringing fans closer to the teams they love with over 30 different hotel brands.

18:53Rich Eisen:So if you want to stay closer to your team, check in for game day with Marriott Bonvoy, the official sponsor of the NFL. We'll see you there.

19:01Chris Brockman:There's nothing worse than waking up sick. And this time of year with the kids back in school surrounded by hundreds of others, yours may bring home a whole new world of viruses and bacteria your family may have no immunity to. No kids, viruses are everywhere, and one ugly strain just showed up. Now it's 2 a.m., your throat feels like strep and your fever spiking. Urgent care? That's urgentcarekit.com slash sports, promo code sports. All right, Chris, what else you got over there?

20:02Chris Brockman:All right, let's keep it going. Man, this dude is unbelievable, Rich. He was Offensive Player of the Year last year, and I know it's early, but JSN should be in every MVP discussion going forward.

20:15Rich Eisen:I've got a neat stat for you. It's going to be a Did You Know on our flagship show. I'm going to preview it for you. I love Did You Know. Jackson, Smith, and Jigba, with his nine receptions, 155 yards, and three receiving touchdowns.

20:32Chris Brockman:He's out of base for like 3 ,000 yards.

20:34Rich Eisen:Now, let's not forget, I know you haven't as a Patriot fan, that game was going New England's way on a fourth down, New England up 10-3, and Seattle couldn't tie their shoes together. Like on their own 40, too. With Drew Locke at quarterback in a shocking manner because five snaps in, Sam Donald hurts his gloop.

20:55Chris Brockman:Goes down, yeah.

20:56Rich Eisen:And then the first electric play of the year is a fourth down throw over the middle of the JSN who runs away from anybody. So he now has four receiving touchdowns on the year. Did you know, Christopher, that Jackson Smith and Jigbo has now become just the second player in NFL history to record each of his team's first four touchdowns of the season? Those are the only touchdowns Seattle's scored. Through the air.

21:25Chris Brockman:I did not know that.

21:26Rich Eisen:Through the air. He's the second player in NFL history to record each of his team's first four touchdowns of the season with all coming through the air the other is Ahmad Rashad for the 1979 Vikings come on that is correct my main man JSN third player in franchise history with a buck 50 and three receiving touchdowns in a game joins Tyler Lockett and Steve Largent Hall of Famer who's done it twice 11th game with 100 receiving yards since the start of last season he leads the National Football League the only one closest to him is Jamar Chase with seven And all of this coming with the Seahawks and John Schneider telling DK Metcalf, we are not paying you.

22:06Rich Eisen:We are trading you to the Steelers, where all he does is suddenly forget how to catch footballs in crucial moments. With all due respect to DK. Okay? There's still more time to come and still more plays to make. And he's got a terrific defense there to suddenly get some offense going. And I'm not saying DK is now less than. But Seattle telling DK, we're not paying you. We're going to hand the store to Jackson Smith and Jigba as the wide receiver one.

22:35Chris Brockman:You know, scratch our head.

22:36Rich Eisen:And a lot of people are like, oh, is that rookie ready to make that step in year two? Exactly. Yes, indeed. And what he's done is follow up his offensive player of the year season with this type of performance with a backup quarterback. means 1 ,000%. This is not an overreaction. But as you know, it's a quarterback award. And it's early. Not a receiver award. But he's a clubhouse leader for repeating his O-P-O-Y for sure. Yeah. Yes, sir. I don't. Yeah. I mean, I could go on and on about that. And then he's been incredible. He's standing up enough offense for the defense to take care of business.

23:23Rich Eisen:Seattle's allowed 10 or fewer points in each of the first two games this season. Their first time doing so in each of the first two games of a season since 2016. And now they've won 12 straight times, including the playoffs, which is a franchise record, passing the 05 Seahawks, which, as you know, made the Super Bowl. It's pretty amazing what they're doing. And Mike McDonald joins George Seifert to win 16 of the first 18 road games of his coaching career. Jeez. So they win on the road. They win at home. They win in the Super Bowl. They win with Jackson Smith and Jigba. And they're doing it for the first two games without Sam Darnold.

24:07Chris Brockman:His – The first – Great start for Seattle. The first offensive play they had, the double move for the ADR touchdown. My God. And good to – hey, good for Drew Locke.

24:15Rich Eisen:Yeah. He's doing what a backup quarterback is supposed to do. which is keep things afloat. Tell your Super Bowl winning quarterback, chill. Get back because we got you. And Seattle's next game is at Washington where it very well could be Marcus Mariota, which is not very well. I would say it's going to be. The only question is how long it's going to be that there. So what else is next?

24:39Chris Brockman:Seattle, Seattle could be controversy.

24:41Rich Eisen:Stop it.

24:43Chris Brockman:Let's talk about a 2-0 team from the NFC East, Rich Eisen. Philadelphia Eagles needed a massive comeback in Tennessee, but I'm not buying it. The Eagles are the biggest Fugazi 2-0 team in the NFL.

24:56Rich Eisen:Here's my take on the Eagles. All right. First of all, that's an overreaction. All right. It's an overreaction. Barely beat Washington. Barely beats Tennessee. I get it. It's a new offense again for Jalen Hurts. It's a new voice in his helmet again. Who is the running back? I get it. I understand. and their offensive line is having trouble blocking people. One guy straight up was like, I'm not good enough. Put me on IR. I mean, that was Landon Dickerson, who at least is veteran enough to say something like that. Yeah. Okay. So I understand that. So you could sit here and say, oh, the Eagles are for Gazi.

25:37Rich Eisen:They suck. Let's call into local radio and blow them up. And Sirianni should be stuffed in a duffel bag and sent out of town. and you know what I mean? Like, whatever you want to do, okay?

25:48Chris Brockman:Yeah.

25:48Rich Eisen:Which I don't think is right because it just seems to me at the end of the day, this is the only way the Eagles know how to operate. With drama and stress. Yes, this is their oxygen. I get it. They can't do anything easy. They will not. It's not like it's willful, but they just don't put their fan base in a rocking chair, like ever. And I don't know what it is. Is it the coach? Is it the quarterback? Is it the locker room? Is it the city? Is it the oxygen? I don't know what it is. The airspace over Philadelphia. But it works because this touchdown grabbed by Devontae Smith was a beautiful ball thrown by Hertz.

26:36Rich Eisen:I mean, it was a great final drive. It was. It should have never come down to that. I know. But it did. Why are we sweating out a win against the Titans who are bad? Because it was 100 freaking degrees out. And they're also still trying to figure out how to work an offense with an offensive line that's either not healthy or can't block anybody with their best player in a blue tent freaking out people like you who are on the chopping block. You're on the team because of Saquon. No, I get it. I know.

27:02Chris Brockman:I totally understand it.

27:03Rich Eisen:I like that just talking about Philly is causing us to yell at each other. But that's what it is. i know that's what it is and at the end of the day move on.com you're 2-0 and now you're going to be taking on a chicago bears team on a monday night where um they're going to be starting tyson i would assume yeah so go there on a monday night get your revenge for the day after thanksgiving last year send them the one and two make yourself three you know before you get the rams in your house and then you know see what happens then but i mean how many times do we need to say it jalen hurts is only consistency at offensive coordinator in his career in philadelphia and then when you throw on his offensive coordinators in college the only times he's had the same voice in his ear and the same playbook in back-to-back seasons was Shane Steichen in the two years before he left to go coach the Colts that's it Dayball and Sarkeesian and in college and then Lincoln Riley in college and then Doug Peterson and then he leaves and then he's got one after the other after the other after the other give the guy a friggin break man and it's just two games in and they're going to have to figure out how to work it but they're two and oh i don't want to call it fugazi you are what you are in the end you are what you are what else all

28:35Chris Brockman:right uh this team this team should be two and oh and we need to come up with a cool nickname for tyler shuck because he has the saints as legit nfc contenders i don't know about nfc contenders

28:48Rich Eisen:but certainly nfc south they have been 100 the best team in the nfc south for two weeks and they're also a team that you cannot count out. 30:14Rich Eisen:No. That has been an impressive part of their... They're always alive. Of their first two. Well, I mean, they almost pulled out the win in Detroit. If they just had a better two-point play execution there.

30:25Chris Brockman:They just had better officiating in that game.

30:27Rich Eisen:Well, I mean, there's that too. But I understand that. Yeah. But I have the information here in front of me.

30:34Chris Brockman:But to go on the road and beat Baltimore, that we declared world beaters and Super Bowl favorites. Well, it did look terrific with Derrick Henry, who still got his.

30:42Rich Eisen:Yeah. But at the end of the day, this is a Saints team that just lights it up in the fourth quarter. and just when you think they're out they're down and out it's it's all over um they they actually go ahead and take care of their own business yeah so a tyler shuck there's one thing that i i i definitely know that they you should not do is call him a a poor man's josh allen which is what anthony weaver the defensive coordinator of baltimore referred to him as oh yes in in a what he thought and what was a compliment kind of knew was a compliment right when you call anybody a poor man's anything sure you know team who josh allen you know you know what i mean yeah and so um they are just winning games because they will not go away they'll hang in there and then shuck to olave um shuck to veley olave and veley you gotta come up with a nickname for them i do i

31:35Chris Brockman:mean juwan johnson look alvin camara out touched uh travis etienne like this team is they're gutsy and, you know, we gave Shuck a lot of grief coming out, old quarterback, what have you. This guy's slinging it, man. He's got, like I said earlier about Bryce Young, one of three quarterbacks over 600 yards this year. You're always in the game with this guy winging it. It's been really fun to watch.

31:58Rich Eisen:Yeah, they outscored the Ravens 15 to nothing in the fourth quarter and then in the first two games of this year, 25 to three in the first two games of the season, they've won the fourth quarter. You're going to win a lot of football games doing that. Yes, sir. And Shuck's the third player in Saints history with a passing and a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. Third Saints player to do that in the last 10 seasons alongside Trevor Simeon and Drew Brees. So those are, by the way, two quarterbacks on different ends of the football rainbow, if you will. But NFC, we need to see more. I need to see more for the NFC, pal.

32:33Chris Brockman:If they play the Eagles, who are you taking?

32:35Rich Eisen:Right now? Yeah. Where? Neutral site. Neutral site? What is this, a bowl game all of a sudden? Yeah, why not? We're going to give out Pop-Tarts at the end?

32:44Chris Brockman:What are you talking about? Fine, in Philadelphia. No, I'll still take the Eagles. And the Philly fans turn because the Saints are up two scores in the fourth quarter.

32:52Rich Eisen:This is overreaction. I'd like to see it. Okay. Next up for them, very difficult opponent that's yet to lose this year. The Las Vegas Raiders. Wow. Oh, Rich. The Las Vegas Raiders are coming to New Orleans with Kirk Cousins, baby. What do you got? It's almost like...

33:11Chris Brockman:What do you got for me there, Chris? It's almost like we're wired in the matrix with each other. What do you got? With Kirk Cousins balling, the Raiders are the biggest threat to the Chiefs in the AFC West.

33:21Rich Eisen:No, I think it's still the Broncos. Come on now. It's still the Broncos. But I do like what I'm seeing out of the Vegas Raiders. You have to. Without Brock Bowers. I think you got... I mean, what they're doing right now is highly impressive. and they're 2-0 for the first time with a rookie coach. First coach, first time he's ever coached.

33:46Chris Brockman:This is like John Madden?

33:48Rich Eisen:No, since Bill Callahan of 2002, their last season with a playoff win. That's the last time they started 2-0 with a coach who's never done it before. And Kirk Cousins with his six passing touchdowns this season.

34:01Chris Brockman:Man, are you kidding me?

34:02Rich Eisen:Tied for the most through two games of a season in Raiders history with Ken Stabler of the 76 team that went 13-1 and won the Super Bowl. Come on. Yes. Yes. You like that? Do you know the last time Cousins had three passing touchdown games and back-to-back to start the season? I don't. He's never done it before. It's the first time he's ever done it. That's why. Okay?

34:28Chris Brockman:It's awesome.

34:29Rich Eisen:I love when the Raiders are good. Trey Talker. A buck 19. That's a game high for him. Second most in a career. Cody White doing his thing. Getting six fumbles. And then Max Crosby at the end of the game on Joe Walt just basically saying, try and stop me holding in the end zone. They forced six fumbles. Six. Look at the eyes on Max in that photo. So they're playing well. Okay. And the person who keeps on hitting me up is Akbar Bajapiamillo. Who had them 12-5 and starting 3-0. We had them starting 3-0. We might owe him an apology. Before losing three in a row to go 3-3 and then having a week seven game against the Rams that he says they're going to win at home.

35:14Chris Brockman:But if the Raiders and the Chiefs are both 3-0 in week four, that is just going to be awesome. In Vegas.

35:21Rich Eisen:It's going to be great. Yeah, but the Chiefs will be feeling like this is our home. You know what I mean? Because this is where they won the Super Bowl. They never lose there. Probably. But it's a different feeling, a different vibe. And you know who you have to give it up to as well? N 'Kobe Dean, who, you know, was next level in Georgia and then had some injury history getting out of the gates in Philadelphia. And there was a lot of, you know, we gave TJ on the flagship show a lot of crap because he chose the Raiders over the Cowboys as a destination. Brother, he can ball out. and him behind Max Crosby and the rest of that defense front seven.

36:01Rich Eisen:Raiders are fun. They're getting after it. They are fun. Raiders are fun. They are fun. But biggest threat to the AFC West, let's – hey, the Broncos got Jalen Waddell involved in a way that we thought they could and came up with a big, tough come-from-behind win at home against a big, tough Jacksonville Jaguars team that had not lost in the regular season in – Forever. In 11 games. Yeah. so they they took care of business Denver let's not overlook them it's actually probably a nine game win streak that the Jaguars had it was 11 straight 99 which is the team history longest win streak for them in the regular season give it up to Denver I don't know if you've got a Denver thing on there I don't again it was their sixth win trailing by 10 or more points under Sean Payton tying the Chiefs for the second most such wins including the playoffs over that span and the Bills have seven to lead that category.

36:58Rich Eisen:They're 13-3, including the playoffs in one-score games since the start of last season. Most such wins by any team in that span. They were getting the bang thing, putting on them, and we're wondering if Davis Webb has any more running backs to run out there. Part of the reason why you're on that guillotine is because of J.K. Dobbins getting hurt. Long story short, though, I still think it's Denver. Let's not discount that yet. But Denver's next few games are a doozy, man. That's the thing, that Denver needed this one at home. They could not be 0-2 going into the stretch of a home date with the Rams on Sunday night at San Francisco at the Chargers, who we assume are going to start playing better football.

37:41Chris Brockman:I don't think we can assume that.

37:42Rich Eisen:Home for Seattle on a Thursday night. That would have been a rough four-game stretch to go in at 0-2. Going in at 1-1 really is what they needed. And kudos to them, man.

37:53Chris Brockman:Yeah. All right. Two more quick ones, and then we'll get to a kind of a new thing we're going to do on the show moving forward. Sure. You mentioned the Chargers, Rich. They're an absolute mess and they're not going to the playoffs.

38:08Chris Brockman:What is going on?

38:09Rich Eisen:All right. The first part that they're a mess is not an overreaction. You could just see it with your own two eyes. Whatever offense that they've installed with Mike McDaniel and the rest of that offensive staff with Adam Gase, it clearly isn't clicking yet. It clearly isn't clicking yet, and you're wondering, do they even have the weapons at their disposal? As in Joku had a wide-open pass go off his hands, and then he gets carted off.

38:34Chris Brockman:Hampton fumbled. Herbert's throwing bad picks. There's that picture, you saw it, of McDaniel and Herbert sitting on the bench just kind of staring out into space.

38:43Rich Eisen:And Jim doesn't really have a frame of reference to deal with this because he's never been 0-2 ever. Anywhere. Wow. And so missing the playoffs is a tall order. Their problem is also, remember I just said how Denver couldn't be 0-2 going into this next month streak. The schedule is totally stacked against Chargers right now. At Buffalo, at Seattle, home for Denver, at Kansas City, and then fittingly what might be a bye-bye. not just a bye. For somebody. So, I don't know. You got to practice it up. And it's just also the offensive line. Like, Alt was getting abused by Max Crosby. Three false starts.

39:27Rich Eisen:And then, you know, but it's a Raiders home game.

39:31Chris Brockman:Yeah.

39:31Rich Eisen:You saw it. It was, yeah. You saw it. Unfortunately, the Chargers are still trying to build that fan base up here in the Los Angeles County area. Missing the playoffs, I'll just still call an overreaction. they still have too many good players one would think you think and at some point you know harbaugh even said uh after the week one loss to arizona that um that he wished they played more in the preseason it's a new offense by the way 21 new offensive coordinators in the nfl 21 21 that's a lot um so in this case you gotta get you you'd think they'd come up with a win at least at home against the teams that picked third and first on the clock overall in last year's draft in Arizona.

40:14Rich Eisen:You saw that crazy stat about the Racine team from 1926. That's the last team to face two opponents at home to start the season and lose both with a 200 or worse winning percentage from the year before.

40:25Chris Brockman:And then Racine folded after the third game. I know.

40:28Rich Eisen:Everybody's making the rounds and having a little bit of fun with that. But it's definitely not fun across the street. No, for sure. At the Chargers facility. I'll just say, not an overreaction that they look to be a mess, but to miss the playoffs it's just still too early okay what else another team uh doing it

40:43Chris Brockman:with a backup i mean who knows how long uh carson wentz will be the backup but the vikings are playing great brian flores has the defense ball and they win a tough sloppy game in chicago yes yesterday but they're the best team in the nfc north minnesota i i can't disagree with that

40:58Rich Eisen:and i and the question is do you stick with once i think you have to he's earned it yeah but somebody losing their gig due to injury is just not but that is not that is just not not the thing anymore not the vibe you want to give to your locker room man like hey sorry i know we brought you in sorry i know that we coached you up i'm sorry i know that we you know we we we talked for months that you're the guy sorry you lost your hat and you got hit so hard that you missed the game but sorry it's carson wentz's job now so just sit back stay by your phone we may need you but you know what i mean isn't it easier though isn't that's

41:39Chris Brockman:a bryce young thing a few years ago it's easier to kind of just ride with the backup until it's

41:43Rich Eisen:a little bumpy then go back to the or you're like let's see what it looks like with carler murray yeah they still did only have six points towards the end of that game man then nine that's true I mean, it was awful.

41:55Chris Brockman:Listen, I get it.

41:57Rich Eisen:And Wentz is the one who emerged healthy, not Caleb Williams. Again, as of this recording, we still don't know how long he might be until he's out. And everyone initially looked at the Achilles. And there was video of him walking out of Soldier Field without any assistance or crutches or anything like that. So hopefully that is a good sign that it's not the end of the season and that we can get him back. because, you know, but it does show you that, you know, you've got to keep on stacking wins in the NFL because you never know how for long it's going to last. So that's your point, that you stick with what's working and Carson Wentz is working.

42:36Rich Eisen:You can go to Tampa, by the way, which is next for Minnesota, and Tampa is 0-2. And they look like a mess too. And they look like they're having trouble matriculating and executing. And Minnesota's forte is to make sure you have trouble executing, and they just took a team that scored 59 and turned them into a team that scored three. So they've got Miami after that, too, at home. And a visit to New Orleans. So, yes, they are the best team in the NFC North. Certainly with Caleb out for an unforeseeable future, the Lions having trouble on defense, communicating on the back end and on the offensive line.

43:17Rich Eisen:And then the Packers needing to finally pull one out of their orifice in overtime against the Jets. Maybe that's the thing that they need is a short week also coming back home. Their first game at Lambeau against an Atlanta team that might get Penix back. It seems to be. That might be the magic elixir for a team that just looks absolutely terrible. Our guy Jack Strand. Jack Strand. Private Dick got in. He got in there. Jack Strand got in. And immediately threw a pick six. To Devin Lloyd.

43:41Chris Brockman:Who had interceptions on back-to-back drives. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

43:44Rich Eisen:Yeah. Yeah. So, but still, I don't think that's an overreaction.

43:48Chris Brockman:All right. That's what we're going to do. That's a wrap there. And, okay, so we're doing something new here. So the last couple of weeks, I've been getting lots of tweets on Sunday night with people throwing out their crazy overreactions.

43:59Rich Eisen:So, yeah, you hit me up in the fourth quarter of the Sunday night game. Yeah. To say, hey, I'm getting a ton of people reaching out to me, what, at Chris Brockman? Yeah, at Chris Brockman on Twitter. And making overreaction suggestions. Just crazy ass takes. What if I took my favorite one and we now close each show with that? And I'm like, all right, let's give it a whirl. Let's give it a whirl. So you have an overreaction Monday. What are we going to call it? Tweet of the week?

44:33Chris Brockman:ORM tweet of the week. Okay. Maybe we'll hashtag it at some point moving forward. But here's the deal. And I chose this one because it combines the last two topics. Oh, Chargers and Vikings. Look at you producing. This is from Noah Hunt at Noah underscore Hunt 22. No relation to Ethan. I would think not. Okay. Or Mike. All right. The Vikings should make a godfather offer to the Chargers for Herbert with the way the upcoming schedule looks and how the Vikings defense looks. Dude, that is ridiculous. Vikings trade for Herbert. That's ridiculous. Vikings need a quarterback. Why in the world would the Chargers jettison Justin Herbert?

45:13Chris Brockman:It's not working. It's clearly not working. And it won't ever work. And it won't ever work. There's a disconnect. Get four first rounders.

45:21Rich Eisen:Reset. So the man who keeps pumping Justin Herbert, not just up for the Heisman, the Super Bowl, and the Hall of Fame, but perhaps as a Nobel Peace Prize winner. and keeping him up at night after an 0-2 start is going to jettison him and turn things over to I don't even know to Trey Lance Trey Lance okay yeah and then go back into the drawing

45:51Chris Brockman:board well they'll bottom out and they'll draft one of these college kids Trinidad Chambers looks awesome

45:57Rich Eisen:the most absurd thing I've heard and that rhymes in a while so Noah Hunt I kind of dig that. I do too. So if we can find a tweet where we're closer to the strike zone, like I'm tapping my helmet and that ABS is like a foot out of the strike zone. Maybe like four inches. Something that could make me think. There's just no godfather offer for Herbert. We just said, you know, hey, you've got a guy in Wentz who just made his, I think it just came up with his 100th career win with a veterans. You got two vets, a first overall pick and a second overall pick from other teams trying to make a way and a name for yourself.

46:45Rich Eisen:I imagine part of just to game it all out. You're flipping J.J. McCarthy back to his old college coach in this trade. Why not?

46:52Chris Brockman:Three first rounders and J.J. McCarthy. This guy. If the Chargers go four and 13, why not think about it?

47:00Rich Eisen:not gonna happen Jim loves this guy more than life itself it ain't gonna happen but well done well done big finish I think we'll stick with it at Chris Brockman on Sunday Night Football so during the Sunday nighter between Denver and the Rams coming up maybe we'll read your tweets fire them off on the air oh my god just make it a little bit more sensible than that one I just like to tie everything together. That wraps it up for the Overreaction Monday podcast.
