In short

The episode is about early NFL power rankings and several contract/roster storylines heading into training camp and the preseason. Rich Eisen and guest Mike Mayock discuss why the Cowboys’ Micah Parsons contract standoff is being handled poorly, arguing the key is guaranteed money and multi-year guarantees (Mayock cites the TJ Watt deal’s structure). They also debate Terry McLaurin’s extension with Washington, emphasizing his age-30 wideout risk and the need to get him into camp. Mayock praises Philadelphia and Baltimore as top talent teams, citing Eagles additions (including a corner) and linebacker Jihad Campbell’s versatility, plus Ravens DT Travis Jones’ breakout potential and improved secondary with Malachi Starks, plus signings like Jair Alexander and Tre’von Diggs/Awuzie. He also calls Washington a real contender with Jaden Daniels as a potential “franchise” QB.

Notable examples

TJ Watt, Lamar Jackson franchise-tag history, A.J. Brown/DK Metcalf contract timing, Mike Evans at 30, Darren Waller’s Miami signing, and Rich’s “just a bit too early” top-10 rankings (Eagles #1, Ravens #2, Commanders #4, Chiefs #3, Bucs #9, Lions #10).

Guests

Mike Mayock (former NFL GM/analyst; Sumer Sports AI scouting company) and earlier mentions of Andrew Whitworth (Prime Video NFL analyst) and Kevin Fishbane (Bears writer, The Athletic), plus Mary Kay Cabot (Browns beat).

1:31Rich Eisen:This is the Rich Eisen Show. Is Russell Wilson a Hall of Famer? As he steps on the field to start week one for the New York Giants. The Rich Eisen Show. Russell Wilson, not a Hall of Famer. From the Rich Eisen Show studio in Los Angeles. P.J. Jefferson, would you care to chime in on this subject matter as well? No. Earlier on the show, prime video NFL analyst Andrew Whitworth. Coming up, former NFL general manager Mike Mayock, Bears senior writer for The Athletic, Kevin Fishbane. And now, it's Rich Eisen. Hour number two of the Rich Eisen show is on the air right here on the Roku Sports Channel, Infinity Sports Network, Sirius XM, Channel 375, Odyssey, and more.

2:18Rich Eisen:Great chat with Andrew Whitworth in our number one of the program. 844-204-RICH is the number to dial. Now, Shador Sanders is going to get quite an opportunity to start for the Cleveland Browns preseason game number one on Friday night. Mary Kay Cabot, who is with the Browns at their joint practice with the Panthers, is going to zoom in middle of hour number three. And then Kevin Fishbane, who covers the Bears, will zoom in right after her. We'll go back to back on that front. But kicking off hour number two, I was going to talk about all things training camp with this man. but you know in light of what we just talked about the ESPN deal to purchase NFL Network Mike Mayock is joining us to tell us how large his residual check is Mike how are you doing good to see you Mike what's going on?

3:03Mike Mayock:Oh Rich two things number one I like that intro of you in your suit walking around with NFL football that was pretty cool thank you sir caught my caught my eye thank you sir and number two if anybody is going to talk about the economic impact yes sir of ESPN and NFL, it's probably you, brother. You've been at both. You've made major bank at both. Yes. And apparently, let me finish, let me finish. Apparently, Rich, you've signed a deal with ESPN.

3:33Rich Eisen:That's correct.

3:34Mike Mayock:And you're going to be like one of the biggest names in that network's history coming up. So you're really the one to talk about that.

3:41Rich Eisen:I appreciate that. In the meantime, I'm going to say, when will I get my residual check? Hold on a minute. I got a magic eight ball here. And it says, wow, this is really weird. I've never seen a go F yourself on the magic eight ball. I've never seen that before, but it actually did say, don't count on it. That really just show up. I'm not kidding you.

4:01Mike Mayock:I think we could ask Thump the Truck.

4:06Rich Eisen:My buddy Mike Mayock here on the Rich Eisen Show, courtesy of Sumer Sports, which we'll get to in a second. I'm curious as to what this is about and what you're up to here. That said, how does the Micah Parsons scenario, negotiation, non-negotiation hit somebody who's been in this league and business for decades in so many different roles, including general manager? Mike, how does this hit you where you are?

4:31Mike Mayock:A couple of different ways. One, Jerry Jones has done business for a lot of years and he made an allusion today to, you know, buying a Dallas Cowboys on a handshake, which I understand and respect. And, you know, business was done a certain way. But I don't think you ever cut a deal with a player and say that's your deal, especially when they have representation. So from my perspective, I think Micah Parsons has shown up and done everything he's supposed to do. He's one of the most explosive football players in this league. I'm a little bit surprised by how the Cowboys have handled the negotiations or, you know, the non-negotiations because they won't call the agent.

5:22Mike Mayock:I think it's well within Micah Parsons' purview to hold in. And at a certain point, Rich, I think you look at the comps and you look at the T. There are a bunch of edge rusher comps. You look at the T.J. Watt deal. Forget all the big numbers and the 45 million average and all that. I think what's important is TJ got three years guaranteed, which is rare. And that's the most important number is how long are your guarantees, followed by what is the guarantee at$108 million. So if I'm Micah Parsons, what I'm looking for is a three-year guarantee over$108 million. A lot of the other numbers are fluff.

6:02Mike Mayock:I hope the Cowboys don't stare this thing down and say you're playing for$24 million or you're not playing. That would be a shame.

6:10Rich Eisen:Well, that wouldn't. The shame is one way to put it. It would also be mind-boggling, right? I mean, talent over everything, money over everything. Like, let's go here. I mean, that's the Philadelphia Eagles who are raising the banner on opening night. And not just any Philadelphia Eagles team. You and I both know Roseman has built this thing to last. And he signs his guys early, right? I mean, A.J. Brown, Devontae Smith. We could go on and on and on and on, right? And so you can't go into that game without Mike Parsons because you won't call the agent because a handshake agreement, this, that.

6:48Rich Eisen:That's why I just seem to believe that this has got to get done. And don't you think, Mike, it's got to get done. It will.

6:57Mike Mayock:I'm blown away by the lack of communication. I really am. the player is in camp and they've got to be talking to the agent. I mean, it's not at this point with all the comps out there, he's 26 years old. He's one of the most dynamic and explosive defensive players in the league. We all know what the number's got to be, plus or minus. You know, you got to go make the deal. Now, Jerry could be sitting there and going, wait a minute, I got him for 24 this year and I can hold on to him next year at an exponent higher than that. based on a franchise tag. So I can get him for two years. And really, Mike is only, the only thing he can do is hold back services, which most players won't do because you're going to give up, you know, 10 weeks salary at age 26 in the prime of your career because you got to report by week, before week 11 of your contract tolls, meaning it doesn't count this year and you're right back in the same situation next year.

7:59Mike Mayock:So if the Cowboys want to be tough, they can be, but Rich, let's just open the doors of communications and get them on the field. It makes no sense to me.

8:08Rich Eisen:Well, Mike, I mean, you've been in a position before where I'm sure you've had the hammer of a leverage and then you've got to figure out like, what does that mean at the end of the day? Right? Like for the greater good. I mean, have you ever been in a position like that? I've got the leverage. I can swing this hammer, but showing the fact that I don't have to swing it is just as valuable as the contract I'm offering, you know, right?

8:32Mike Mayock:Yeah, I've been in a couple of situations where I was really happy with the way the Raiders handled it. You know, I remember with Colton Miller, who's one of the best offensive tackles in football, he was starting to dig his heels in a little bit and talk about potentially moving on from his agent. And, you know, we proactively got it done. And I think he appreciated that. I think the locker room appreciated it. I mean, I look at Trey Hendrickson. We're talking about defensive ends, different conversation. You know, the guy's 30 years old, but he's averaged 14 sacks a year the last five years.

9:09Mike Mayock:He's had 17 and a half sacks the last two years. The Bengals do business a little differently, especially with defensive players. but the way they're looking at this thing I think Rich and here's where I mean like every team's different right they're saying we have a value for this guy that we believe in forget all the comps we have a value number one and number two is at age 30 is he really going to sit out nah he won't he'll play for the 15 million that he's under contract for this year and then can go next year uh we'll stare and the Bengals have a history of staring that battle down um I think both of them are senseless to a degree.

9:52Mike Mayock:Both players have earned a certain number. When you get to age 30, you know, you have to take that in consideration, just like Terry McLaurin at wideout. You have to take that number into consideration from the owner side, from management side. But man, the Micah Parsons thing just irritates me, Rich.

10:11Rich Eisen:Mike Mayock here on the Rich Eisen Show. What in your estimation from your vantage point is the solve for Terry McLaurin and the commanders?

10:23Mike Mayock:There's a history of wide receiver drop-off after age 30. Terry's approaching that, I think, in the next month or so. We had Terry McLaurin at the Senior Bowl in 2019, and I love the kid. You want to talk about – and he didn't have big production at Ohio State, which is – they had a bunch of wideouts that had bigger acclaim than him, which is why he didn't go until the third round. You know, he's got four consecutive thousand-yard seasons. He is the captain of their team, and he's one of the most professional young men I've ever met. Now, you know, I was thinking about the A.J. Brown, D.K. Metcalf contracts, which average around 32, 33, but they're two, three years younger.

11:07Mike Mayock:In wide receiver years, that's a lot. So, you know, you look at Mike Evans. He signed at age 30. You know, Mike Evans got a two year extension before the 24 season. I want to say for I think he got thirty five million guaranteed, but it was a forty one million dollar contract. I think that McLaren is looking for a lot more than that. I don't think he's going to get to the thirty million dollar average. And the wide out numbers have gone up big, especially because of those two Bengal guys. So I think they have to get McLaren in camp. If you want to chase the Eagles, to your point about Dallas chasing the Eagles, Washington's got a dynamic, dynamic group of young guys, even though it's an older roster.

11:53Mike Mayock:And you better get McLaren in there. He's the best wide out. He's their captain. And he means a lot to this franchise. And I just like the way Washington's terminology is publicly. We love the kid. We want him back. We're going to do everything we can to get there. it's a tough negotiation but we'll get there that's the attitude it should be well isn't that

12:12Rich Eisen:the attitude the Ravens had with Lamar publicly right back in the day like where no matter what Lamar was saying I want to trade I want this I want that they were they were loving him up you know as best they could publicly I mean I don't know you know privately what was going on but that seemed to be happening there I just think again this this has to be they got to solve it right jayden daniel's year two what are you gonna take his bff away you can't take his bff away like

12:38Mike Mayock:that you can't seriously have to sign him have to sign micah right and in the um lamar thing's really intriguing rich if i remember correctly yes the franchise tag they put on him put him at risk for two first round picks right in hindsight how many teams would make that deal now please I know.

12:59Rich Eisen:I know. I know. And obviously that's a whole different story. Mike Mayock here on the Rich Eisen Show. Just going to give you the floor. What's your training camp intrigues you? Which team do you think, you know, has the shot that we're not talking about? I'll give you the floor. What do you got for me? What have you seen out there that you're like, you know what? I like this or this concerns me. I'll just give you anything. Omnibus, Mike. Go for it.

13:23Mike Mayock:Omnibus. I like that. I like that.

13:25Rich Eisen:Yeah, I know. Your BC knowledge. You got it. You got it in there. Omni, Latin root, over pertaining to all. Mike Mayock, everybody. Yes, sir. What do you got for me? What do you think?

13:37Mike Mayock:I think the two best teams from a talent perspective in the league that I've seen last year and then again this year are Philadelphia and Baltimore. And I don't think that's going to surprise a lot of people. Philadelphia, what they keep doing, they traded for the corner yesterday or the day before from the Raiders, to Corian Bennett. They gave up a backup rotational defensive tackle, who, by the way, I like, is a good player. But he's a solid rotational defensive tackle. Potentially, they get a starting corner. That's going to help them. That Jihad Campbell, the linebacker that slid to them because of the injury, he don't look like he's very hurt to me, Rich.

14:22Mike Mayock:he was running around the field last week like a puppy and he's the future of the off the ball linebacker position he can line up in the a gap he can line up a defensive end as a nine technique he can drop back and cover two and run under a wide out 40 yards down the field he and the kid from Georgia Jalen Walker who went to Atlanta in the first round are the kind of the future of the off-the-ball linebackers and the G-Had Campbell kid, man, and the Eagles. Jeff Stoutland, their offensive line coach. I mean, God bless him.

14:58Rich Eisen:Another good Staten Islander from my hometown, Stoutland.

15:02Mike Mayock:Is he your hometown?

15:03Rich Eisen:That's right. We're from the same hometown, Staten Island, New York.

15:06Mike Mayock:He's amazing. And they keep drafting young kids in the fifth, sixth, seventh round and giving it to them. And three years later, they're starters. and then Baltimore Rich put this in your memory bank. Baltimore number 98 Travis Jones okay he's a third or fourth year 340 pound defensive tackle who took some stride he caught my eye last year and I had a couple of their games late and he's a monster and I think he's going to have a breakout year this year I think their wide outs are really good their offensive line is really good. I mean, they're going to score 30-plus points a game again. Defensively, the thing that held them back a little bit last year was in the defensive backfield.

15:52Mike Mayock:They drafted Malachi Starks, the safety in the first round, as advertised. What a surprise.

15:58Rich Eisen:Yeah, right.

15:59Mike Mayock:They signed Awuzie and Jair Alexander. I was at their joint practice yesterday with Indy, and Jair Alexander was in mid-season form. He was chirping everybody. I mean, it was really fun to watch.

16:14Rich Eisen:Yeah, I mean, this all tracks. You know what I mean? All of this tracks with what you're saying, kind of all on brand for both franchises. Which team are we not talking about? We should be. Which one? Give me that one, Mike.

16:29Mike Mayock:I don't think Washington is a one-year aberration. You don't. And I'm such a believer in this young kid. I have a list of quarterbacks in my book every year. And I have four franchise quarterbacks this year, which I think everybody knows who they are. And at number five, I got Jaden Daniels. And if he has another year this year like last year with everybody game planning for him, he'll be the fifth franchise quarterback. And then there's a group from like six to 12 that you can win Super Bowls with. And two of them already have, Jalen Hurts and Matthew Stafford. It's a really good second group.

17:06Mike Mayock:but Washington to me they got a left tackle in free agency they kept their tight end I'm a big believer both in their young GM Adam Peters is outstanding and their head coach Dan Quinn and I don't think they're an aberration I think they're the real deal

17:26Rich Eisen:and I gotta get the names I'm assuming Mahomes Allen, Lamar and Burrow are the four I knew

17:32Mike Mayock:I just know you

17:34Rich Eisen:I left that out there dangling on purpose. No, no, no. I'm not going to leave that. You know I'm not going to leave that. Yeah, yeah.

17:39Mike Mayock:They were the four.

17:40Rich Eisen:Okay. And Daniel's above Hurts on this list.

17:43Mike Mayock:Well, here's the point. It doesn't matter.

17:47Rich Eisen:Okay.

17:48Mike Mayock:In the first four, if I gave you first pick, I'll take any of the other three and beat you. Okay? And then in the next group of like six or seven guys, like there was a big controversy in Philly because Hurts was only number nine on some list. I'm like, guys, I don't care if he's five or nine. He just won a championship, and three or two years ago, he was in the championship and played at a high level. The guy is the right guy with the right fit at the right time. Don't worry about whether he's five or nine. You can win a championship with him.

18:22Rich Eisen:Is that your way of saying that was low-hanging fruit for me to point out that Hurts is below Daniels on your list? Mike, is that that? I know you. Like, I should be better than that.

18:32Mike Mayock:I think Daniels has the potential to get into that group. And I think in that next group, and I mean, I'll share. I mean, the way I look at it.

18:40Rich Eisen:Let's go. I had Stafford and Hertz, who both won Super Bowls.

18:48Mike Mayock:I had Goff. Herbert? I had Herbert. I had Purdy. I had Mayfield, who got into that group for the first time this year. Love it. And C.J. Stroud. I got a little, his first year was great. Last year, I don't have that on him. That was some of the worst pass protection I ever saw. I think he's going to have another strong year. So when I leave that second group, Rich, and I say you can win a Super Bowl with all those guys, okay? I think they're really good football players. You get in the third group, they're solid, but they have kind of question marks, and that's guys like Jordan Love, Dak Prescott, Sam Darnold, Geno Smith, Bo Nix is still there.

19:28Mike Mayock:Tua, Trevor Lawrence, Kyler Murray. They're all, and then there's some young guys that I keep to the side because they haven't proven it yet, the Drake May, Caleb Williams, Michael Penix guys, you know, and there's some guys the jury's out. You know, they haven't done much yet. Bryce Young, J.J. McCarthy, Cam Ward, Anthony Richardson, and some of those old vets like, let's see, Justin Fields and Russell Wilson. So I just kind of gave you a list there that I think is intriguing, but it's the way I qualify quarterbacks going into a season. Where's Rogers on the list? Off to the side. Okay. In all honesty, I did their game, as I told you, their Houston game, which they won at New York last year.

20:12Mike Mayock:And I see arm strength. He spins it. I still thought he was struggling a little bit moving around in the pocket, which later in the year didn't look as apparent. I don't know what we're going to get this year. I think we'll probably get a guy that fits in that third group, the solid group. And I think that would be good enough to help Pittsburgh have another solid year.

20:34Rich Eisen:Sumer Sports, what is it, Mike? Tell me about it.

20:36Mike Mayock:Oh, my gosh.

20:37Rich Eisen:What do you got for me, man?

20:38Mike Mayock:Well, I was getting ready for you today, Rich. Okay. Okay. It's this AI company that all I do is write scouting reports. I watch college tape and write reports. but they just kind of let me in on, they have this Sumer brain, which is an AI thing. And the whole, this is really rich about showing you where the NFL is going right now. The whole league is either developing their own analytics department to a, to a level we can't believe, or they're contracting out to other groups. And at Sumer, like when I was getting ready for you, I had, I called Sumer said, Hey, give me some, Give me an overview of all the wideouts that turned 30 and did new contracts.

21:21Mike Mayock:What were the numbers? What were the guaranteed numbers? What's the recommendation for Terry McLaurin, et cetera? And 30 seconds later, I got the answer for all of it. Wow. All of it. Then I asked last week, well, from a coach's perspective, let's say I want to know what all of Tampa Bay's fronts were in the last four regular season game. I want fronts. I want coverage. I want it against 11 personnel, first, second, third, first and second and third down. Success or not against run and pass, spit it out. That would take quality control, two young quality control assistants, 16 hours a day, two days.

22:02Mike Mayock:90 seconds later, it's spit it all out. It's where the NFL is going. And I think a lot of teams are ahead of other teams. It's kind of the next frontier. and an old guy like me, I saw some of the AI stuff with the Raiders and the way the coaches used it to track GPS stuff and game planning, but it's getting to a whole nother level. And I thought I was just going to be like breaking down tape and I'm kind of energized by looking at what this stuff can do. And you're going to hear more and more as it goes on, Rich.

22:35Rich Eisen:I love it. Bringing the authentic intelligence to artificial intelligence, Mike Mayock of Sumer Sports. See, there's nothing artificial. about your intelligence at all. I love hearing your passion, obviously, about anything in this in particular, Mike. Before I let you go, how did the Darren Waller signing in Miami hit you as a guy who goes way back with him? Mike?

22:58Mike Mayock:Mixed emotions. I'll never forget the poignant moment where he stood up in front of our team. We gave, it was his, I forget which year, fifth, sixth, seventh year of sobriety, and Max Crosby asked us to do something for him. We raised some money, gave him a big check. It was players only, coaches only, and me. And we closed the doors and Max introduced Darren to the room. And I sat there transfixed crying for 10 minutes. I'll never forget that moment. And I'm not going to reveal any of it. I just was so touched by Darren Waller sharing his story with us. so I'm always I get this big thing in my heart for him he hasn't been as healthy over the past three you know a couple years hasn't been as productive when he's healthy productive and all in he's as good as any tight end in football so I'm rooting for him all my positive thoughts are with him and I hope at the end of this year in his mind he feels like he made the right decision

24:04Rich Eisen:Yeah, and I got Mike McDaniel on tomorrow's program. I mean, he'll know what to scheme with him, right? Tua, finding him quickly as a big, huge target. If he is healthy and he's the Waller that you, you know, helped rediscover and put on the field, that's a particularly dangerous weapon for an already lightning-fast team, if you think about it.

24:24Mike Mayock:Yeah, it is. And Tua is so good at processing quickly. and Waller's 260 pounds and literally legitimately runs sub 4.5 when he's in shape. So at all three levels, you know, if a blitz is coming, he wins early. If you've got a little time to develop a progression, he wins late. He's special when healthy. And, you know, it's going to be interesting to see what injuries and age have done, but it's kind of a fascinating hire.

Big word alert. Big word alert. Antonio Brown says he's moving past it. He's in a new place and the Raiders would love him to move on. But clearly there's some sort of animus towards a guy that does not appear to have a single reason in a bone in his body to have animus thrown in his direction. It's really something else.

28:04Rich Eisen:What are the Steelers going to do?

28:11Rich Eisen:Big word.

28:16Rich Eisen:What do we do? Quick. Look it up. Big word alert.

28:27Rich Eisen:Animus, a noun meaning strong dislike, hostile attitude, or an ill feeling towards someone or something. Animus, after Michigan got their butts kicked again

28:39Mike Mayock:by Ohio State, rich at animus for all Buckeye fans.

28:43Rich Eisen:Nice. Big word alert. Big word alert. So let me turn this one to you then. Who, Frank Caliendo, out of your oeuvre of... Oeuvre? Yes. I like to think of as the Louvre. The Louvre of your voices. Who would be the biggest game of the world? Big word alert. Big word alert. What other f***ing word? You know the f***ing word? Big Word Alert Big Word Alert Let's go, let's go Big Word Alert Ouvra, a noun, the works of a painter, composer, or author regarded collectively Ouvra, my ouvra as a DJ and an audio executive is unmatched Really? Yeah And that's it for today's Big Word Alert You're welcome

29:40Rich Eisen:thank you is that because i used the word omnibus in the conversation is that what just happened

29:44Mike Mayock:is that where we played that that's a mike oscar's question by the way and then they

29:49Rich Eisen:have to find it so you're welcome for making you smarter that was a great chat with mike um and did you notice when he talked about the different categories of quarterbacks elite four of them after which there were six quarterbacks that were quarterbacks that you could still win super bowls with and then the third category the quarterbacks who showed behind the winners and placers the word he used for them was solid oh i caught that did you catch that No, I did not catch that. Oh, I caught it. That was a good thing. It was like two or three in a row. No, it is not. It is. That's my point. There's elite.

30:43Rich Eisen:There's close to elite, but just damn good enough to win it all anyway. And then there's the solid ones. Solid Cubics. They were all good quarterbacks, though. I don't know what your issue is. You don't want to be called solid. there are better adjectives to compliment you again we go back to this your your vocabulary is truly extensive most people don't have because most people don't have the well of of words to dip into when you're describing something the way you do tj not solid works not everyone got into the university of michigan number one okay see the harvard of the west oh my gosh who says that Well, Harvard is the Michigan of the East.

31:29Rich Eisen:Nobody says that. Everybody does. I don't know who you're talking to. I've literally only heard you say that. But you're obfuscating. Oh, God. See, that's what I'm talking about, Rich. My man at home drinking a beer, he can't obfuscate with you. You don't even know what that means. I don't know what that means. You want to use AI to check that one out? Not really. I'm looking up Michigan circumventing. Okay, stop it. Not really. He's on to the next one. Solid. That's what he's calling quarterbacks who aren't elite. Who's in that group? Who did he say? Well, I mean, racket back. He put Tua in there.

32:05Rich Eisen:He put, you know, who else did he put in there? All I know is they weren't Super Bowl winners or elite. He called them solid. So when I make a good point or this show makes a good segment, don't call me or this show solid because I find that offensive. Like I said, someone called me, said I was a solid guy on YouTube, and I love that. He said, TJ's a solid guy. What's wrong with that? Because you're an exceptional guy, TJ. Slow down. No, you are exceptional. You're one of the nicest guys that I know. You are an absolute sweetheart of a guy who is great to people. You respect other people. When you are disrespected, you clap back appropriately, but just enough to make your point without making it worse.

32:58Rich Eisen:That's why I'm not offended by solid. You are more than solid. Good Lord. Just go with it.

33:07Rich Eisen:Excellent, excellent system by Mike Mayock of tiering people. Bravo. Here's my point. 844-204-RICH number to dial here on the program Al in Dallas what is up Albert first and foremost congratulations we all knew the news was coming but the official announcement is fantastic I'm looking forward to enjoying your show on the worldwide leader in sports many different platforms that's great news to hear Al I appreciate you wishing us well and you've been along for the ride since day one and I came on the air 10 years in NFL Network and that's where NFL Network's headed now too. It appears. Unbelievable.

33:54Rich Eisen:Crazy. I love it. Thank you, Al. That being said, Richard, you're in the sports and entertainment field. You hobnob with all these people. You know what's up and you know what's happening. Where are we going with this, Al? Where is this headed? When rookies get introduced to agents, I mean, where do you think this ranks in the conversation of what to do and what not to do? The first what not to do is don't talk to the owner about a contract without me around. Where's Ari Gold screaming Lloyd in this thing with Mika Parsons? Are we out of our mind, especially that guy? They've got to know going in, I don't want you talking to Jerry alone about contracts.

34:38Right?

34:39Mike Mayock:I mean, is this insane? This is the craziest thing we've ever seen.

34:43Rich Eisen:Yeah, and the analogy of, well, I bought the Cowboys on a handshake agreement, so that's the way I can make deals with players doesn't really track because... Nah, this ain't land man. Well, it's not just that, Al. Listen, it's all about the long form, man, to use the legal phrase. You know what I mean? No, no, no doubt. You know, like right now, just as a perfect example, you just look at the language in the press releases between the NFL and ESPN right now. They use the word non-binding, right? Sure. So they have handsh, I guess, I imagine Bob Iger and Roger Goodell have shaken hands over this or across a table.

35:34Rich Eisen:But, you know, it's now in the hands of a lot of other people, regulatory, legal. it comes out in the long form here. And so Jerry could have come up with a number. He could have come up with a number to buy the Cowboys. But when the long form comes back and it doesn't match, it's like, hold on a minute. Wait a minute. That handshake doesn't really mean. Okay, yeah, that's what it would be.

35:53Mike Mayock:That's what we call Fugazi, right? You got to do your due diligence. And with this stuff, it's like unbelievable. But these athletes keep talking to Jerry.

36:02Rich Eisen:If I was his RE goals, I'd be like, first things first, stop talking to my client. Like, I know plenty of lawyers. You know, plenty of, I think this is insane. But these kids keep doing it. It's nuts. I wouldn't say a peep to that guy. I mean, I wouldn't talk to any of them. Any of them. John Mara, swell fellow. Wouldn't talk to him about it. Swell fellow. John Mara, swell fellow. You are swell too, Al. Al and Dallas, everybody. Bringing the noise and the heat. Solid call. Respectively. Very good. That's a good one. Okay, guys. Is it time? It is time. Oh, all right. There's a setup. There's a setup.

36:39Rich Eisen:There's a setup. My bad. I haven't written down. Back in the day, after the Super Bowl was over, I did something stupid. What was that? I did a power rankings. No, I haven't written down. For the following year. I don't find that was stupid. I loved it. That was genius. We called it the way, way too early power rankings. Here it is on the screen. I had the Eagles, Tops, the Ravens, two, Commanders, three Chiefs, four Lions, five, Bills six, Rams seven, by the way. I'm very proud to have had the Rams that high back then. I put the Vikings eight, the Broncos nine, and the Chargers ten. I kind of dig these power rankings, despite them being way, way too early.

37:25Rich Eisen:Then I believe after the draft was over. April 30th. Ah! Okay. So that's when after the draft was over. Yeah, I've written down. After back from Green Bay. I'm going to let pipe wheeling Now that we knew all the free agency moves and everything going on with the draft, I had to wait too early. I just got rid of a way. Right. And I went Eagles, Commanders, Ravens. I popped the Commanders up one spot. Rams, Chiefs rounding out the top five. Bills, Broncos, Vikings, Lions, Bucs. I popped the Bucs up there. Yes, you did. Took the Chargers out. Mm-hmm. So that's what we call the backdrop. Okay. Just reminding everyone of my way, way too early power rankings before the way too early power rankings.

38:12Rich Eisen:It's now time on the Wednesday before the full first preseason week for the National Football League, about a month away from the first game between the Eagles and the Cowboys. I am now unveiling my just a bit too early power rankings. Yes. Hit it.

38:33Rich Eisen:This is Mark. Power rankings. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

38:38Mike Mayock:Power rankings. All right.

38:40Rich Eisen:I should say it like Bob Ueger. Just a bit too early. Power rankings. Number 10 on the list. They're still hanging on at number 10. I still need to see what this team's going to do with two new coordinators. Still need to see it. Lions are still 10. They're down a spot from my way too early. They're number 10 on the list. They're in the top third of the league. I've got the Detroit Lions Dan Campbell saying that the defense is still ahead of the offense I might be a little challenged here saying hey Ben Johnson's not around here anymore but we still have the same guys let's go I'm looking forward to a breakout season for Jamison Williams and the man who as we saw earlier at a WWE event Jameer Gibbs hot on fire 5 to 9 now 10 Ten.

39:31Ten.

39:32Rich Eisen:Number nine, up one spot, it's my guy. I love that Mike Mayock is now including this quarterback in a Super Bowl-winning-worthy quarterback. Super. Somebody who can win it all. I've got the Buccaneers at nine. I'm putting the Buccaneers at nine. They've got a shot here, man. I think they are going to win the division, and I think they've... I just got to see Baker now, right? Here we go. I love Bucky Irving, baby. Right? You had them at ten last time, right? Evans, Godwin's coming back. The O-line, let's get Werff's healthy. Let's go. Ibuka. Right? Look out. Right? Bucs are cooking something. They're number nine.

40:06Rich Eisen:They're up one spot for my way too early. Now just a bit too early power rankings. It rolls on with the Chargers back on the list. Keenan Allen's back too. Keenan Allen's back too. I love that signing. Love that signing. Love it. Good for them. Keenan's showing us his lightning bolt once again. Just a quick walkabout in Chicago. Now he's back. Down and dirty even. Adding to some of his generational figures in the team record books. He didn't like deep dish pizza. I like what Jim is cooking. Year two, let's go. Justin Herbert and the Chargers are eight on the list, but they're one behind the team that stays like a before.

40:42Rich Eisen:The Denver Broncos are seven. The Denver Broncos sitting there at seven. Can't wait to see what they do. Can't put them any higher because the teams in front of them have already kind of shown me what they've done. Let's see what they do in year two with Bo Nix. You could have put them higher. I'm not putting them above the Bills at six. Oh. No change for the Bills at six. Concerned about Khalil Shakir's high ankle sprain. Yeah, I don't like that. James Cook, obviously not. I think they'll hammer that out. He's like a buffalo. Those are no changes. Everybody else is kind of no changes. Buffalo has been six the whole way.

41:13Rich Eisen:They were six after the Super Bowl, and they're six after the draft. I'm still keeping them there. Okay. I am concerned about the new member of the Rams roster. I wrote it down. they added a new player to the quarterback depth chart named Epi Durrell oh wait a minute that's not a name just let my smile be an umbrella great NIL deal for Epi Durrell by the way back in college listen I don't know what's going on with Stafford get them healthy and they're higher than 5 how does that sound get them healthy and the Rams higher than 5? 5 is pretty high If they are, if they, if they, if Stafford's healthy, the Rams have the best chance to knock off the Eagles of anybody else in the NFC.

42:02Rich Eisen:How does that sound? He's not healthy. That's my point. Then why are they five? Because they're still pretty damn talented. That's why. Okay. And you tell Jimmy Garoppolo he's not handsome. He's more than solid. I'm not going to tell him. All right. Number four on the list down two spots. Cause they haven't signed Terry McLaurin yet. They're four commanders of four. Commanders of four. Terry McLaurin comes in now. Now, now, Now we might switch things around, although the Chiefs are up two spots. They're three. Dude, keep sleeping on them. Keep on. Keep doing it. Nobody is sleeping on them. Yeah, they are.

42:33Rich Eisen:You are. I'm not. You're like rolling your eyes. What have they done to go from five to three? They're the Chiefs. Exist? Right. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Listen, pal. You remember they're saying yesterday it could go one and four. I don't know. And now no one. Who told me Josh Simmons looks like Trent Williams? Who came on this program? Lewis Reddick. You keep sleeping. No one is sleeping. You are. Up one spot to two are the Baltimore Ravens. And then number one is the clear contender for the Super Bowl for a repeat performance, the Philadelphia Eagles. And that's my riches just a bit too early. Power rankings.

43:18Rich Eisen:Knocked Vikings off the list. just because I need to see what my guy JJ is going to do first. I think that's fair. I think Denver probably should have been five. And then the Rams down to seven below the Bills? Yeah. Okay. I'm not going to nitpick it. All right. I appreciate you doing that. Not nitpicking? Yeah, I'm not going to pick a nit over this. You shouldn't. No. Rich Eisen here with some advice. If high interest credit card debt is grinding you down, it might be time to call an audible with a SoFi personal loan. 44:45Rich Eisen:So continuing our coverage of one of the top stories of our program, which is TJ Jefferson leading the league in calling roadside assistance. And we found out today that the battery problem that has been plaguing his regular car plagued the loaner car. And because his regular car is being fixed on once again, and you keep on pointing out why is TJ not getting a new ride, right? Correct. And word has hit me as I've been walking around the facility here. Is it true your old ride belongs to once upon a time Mila Kunis, and that's part of the reason why you don't want to get rid of the car? TJ Jefferson, yes or no?

45:34Rich Eisen:Yay or nay? I mean, half of that's true. that it used to belong to her, but that's not the reason why you're holding on to it. No, not anymore. Well, not anymore. Maybe at one point, I was like, maybe I'll hold on to it. So now it makes sense that it breaks down. It's that 70s car? Is it that old? Well, you think it's from the 70s? I don't know. You've seen it. It might have been purchased with that 70s show money. Well, that indeed it was. Well, I mean, but that show is ancient history. Well, you know it didn't take place in the actual 70s. I understand that. But it took place in the aughts, didn't it?

46:13Rich Eisen:In the early 2000s. I know that. So if she bought the car using that 70s show money, then it's an ancient car. So I guess you've never seen anybody drive around and out, say, like a 1965 car or a 1980. Is that what you're saying? This car has a tape deck. Do you really have a tape deck in the car? It's a 2003. It's a 2003 Lexus. It has a tape deck and a CD player in it. What is happening? I'm sorry. I'm not wealthy. Oh, you can afford a new car. That's what you guys are doing. You're trying to poor shame me right here to America. Excuse me. I am most certainly not trying to poor shame. I am trying to poor shame him.

46:55Rich Eisen:You can afford a new car. Why? Don't worry about it. Your car constantly breaks down. It doesn't cut. It's not broken down now. There was a sound that was needed to be fixed. So it's not broken down. I was just getting something fixed. Is your car in the shop? Yes. That means it's broken down. Again, let me just say this. Bring it all full circle. According to a viewer or listener of this program with an outstanding comment on social media. I'm sorry. You guys have 2025 cars. This could have all. I do not. I don't either. This all could have been avoided had TJ once upon a time taken the middle key.

47:36Rich Eisen:You could have gotten a car courtesy of the good people of the Mark Goodson, Bill Todman production. Price is right. That's where you're wrong. I could have gotten two cars. Exactly. And two motorcycles. And two motorcycles. You could have gotten all that. And an e-bike. Okay. And you could have gotten her showcase, too, because she was over. Yeah, but what was the chances? I mean, there's more than dumb and dumber. Look. See, we're getting to the bottom of all this. It's fantastic. Let's not compare game show appearances, because I did much better on mine than you did on yours. Ours. Ours. Ours.

48:13Rich Eisen:I did great on ours. Well, we know you did. You were awesome at everything. I got some audio from the shop yesterday. Oh, yeah? Bring around the loner. The loner? Okay. Meanwhile, he's got a Maserati, which everyone knows his car's in the shop and getting fixed more than mine. And that is a fact. Okay, good to know. Back on the Rich Eisen Show. 844-204-RICH. Number to dial. Jay, am I lying? Right here on the program. Let's go to Jason in Phoenix, Arizona. What's up, Jason? Hey, guys. Hey. What's up, Jay? You know, I call him and go by Jason. I tell you, Jason. I don't really tell you my last name, no.

48:51Rich Eisen:My last name is Jones.

48:54Mike Mayock:Jason Jones. You might not want to tell you why he don't want to pay Micah, but I'll tell you why. You put Micah in a conversation with Reggie White. Reggie White has 12 sacks in the playoffs in 10 games. Micah Parsons has one in four. Reggie White never had a defense that gave up 35, 40 points in playoff games. Problem with Micah is he's too small. You can run right at him. You ask any coach, they'll tell you. He's too small to be on the line. He can run around and he can get sacks on weak teams, but when you play the good teams, he's nowhere to be found. So trade him. Do the Herschel Walker trade.

49:34Mike Mayock:Get as big of a haul as you can get and call it a day. Also, Rich, you've been shaming yourself for being bald a little too long. I want to tell you, I'm a electric, willed in straight arrow for the most part.

49:47Rich Eisen:I know I said for the most part. But you look better today, bald, than you did back in the day when you had hair. You asked yourself, could you 2025 Rich steal Susie away from 2001 Rich with the hair? You have more swag, you look better. 2001 Rich might have just finally gotten Susie to see the light. Might have just like at that point in time, Jason, if we want to peg the accuracy. But I appreciate the compliment. and Jason and Phoenix giving us his opinion on Micah Parsons and the shape of my dome all at the same time. I said, I didn't say Micah Parsons was Reggie White. I keep giving you the stat.

50:32Rich Eisen:Yeah, nobody's Reggie White. That only two people started their careers with at least a dozen sacks in their first four seasons, and their names are Reggie White and Micah Parsons, and that's it. you know, and obviously the minister of defense of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers, I think played on a better defense than the rest of what Micah Parsons is playing on right now, with all due respect to the rest of the Cowboys that are on the 11 for him. Um, so, but it's a different time. It's a different day and age. Micah Parsons, no matter how small you may think he is and you run at him or whatever, the, the, the, the running game problem on defense for the Cowboys starts in the middle.

51:17Rich Eisen:And it has been for quite some time. And they've tried a lot of times to fix it, including one of my guys from Michigan, right? Taco Charlton. Taco's like a four-letter word to you. Well, because... For other reasons. Because if we don't page Taco, J.J. Watt was right there. Well... Or T.J., I'm sorry, not J.J. No, I get you. And, you know, Micah's got to be signed. I mean, I don't know how many times I'm going to say it. Multiple times I'm going to say it between now and September 4th. he's going to have to be signed and it's that simple and jerry knows it and he knows it and everyone knows it and they're not trading him there's no way they're going to trade him unless somebody just calls up the dallas cowboys and gives them a herschel walker trade you know and just throws it at them and they're like okay we're done here you go pay him and then they're gonna you're gonna have to deal with going into this season with uh less of a defense it's just that simple you can't replace micah parsons immediately and maybe not over a long period of time that's why it just makes no sense and you're not going to take these picks and hold them in your back pocket and hope they turn out fine by the time of the draft rolls around next year in Pittsburgh she's not going to do it hour three coming up I mean I don't know how many times I got to say it so again it makes no sense I mean to basically say to Micah you're under contract we don't need to talk to your agent stand there in your pajamas let's everyone keep talking about it every now and then you know the boss is going to say something in front of the the cameras that invariably inflames the situation because the way we're all reading into it and then talking about it making the animus deeper but no matter how deep the emotions get money talks and when the contract hits the table to the tune of maybe 45 per year that will talk and it will end everything and michael will be out there on the first thursday night the question is is how do we get there how do we get there because michael can't force jerry to call his agent i told you what i would do i told you what i would do because you're out if you're out of you know what's to give.

53:37Rich Eisen:And you're out of options because your other option is to leave. I would get my agent on the phone and walk up to Jerry Jones and hand him my cell phone and say, David is on the phone. He wants to say something to you. I wouldn't do that, Rich. I'd have my agent come to camp, walk him over to him. Like, you don't know him? David, Jerry. Jerry, David. Let's get this done. I mean, that is provocative. that is provocative put him face to face it's just first things first is i would just take the phone get him on the phone walk up to him and say this is for you i know we haven't spoken yet how are you jerry you good oh by the way hold on a second here's my phone it's my agent and what's he gonna say no FaceTime even FaceTime show him you know and then there's his agent what's up Jerry how are you um you got five minutes you want to do a zoom you want to do a little Microsoft Teams like that's the way to do it move it along what are you gonna lose this takes a nice chunk out I mean, what do you got to lose?

54:55Rich Eisen:Honestly, that's it? What, is he just going to turn around and walk away? Is that what he's going to do? I'm going to see if David has anybody else in the Cowboys. He's got people everywhere. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. Get him on the phone. Hand it to Jerry Jones and say, let's start this thing, please. 844-204-RICH. Number to dial.
