1:44Romesh Ranganathan:Eve's that girl. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Who's that girl? Is she coming on Monday? Eve's that girl.
1:57Romesh Ranganathan:Who's that girl? Eve's that girl.
2:06Romesh Ranganathan:Who's that girl? Eve's that girl. You're wasting a fucking time. Same to you. Okay, do you recognize that? I do. Okay. After all this time. How can I miss it? Eve's a hip-hop legend. Yeah. Proper bona fide hip-hop legend. Yeah. We talked about Grammys, touring, some of her biggest hits. Is it coming on Monday? She was on the Monday show. She was? Yeah. Thanks for listening. Okay. We talked about Twiglets. She doesn't like Twiglets. Do you want to see a clip? Yeah. Let's get it. Here's your next one. Marmite is the bomb. Definitely not me. For sure. I have tried with this Marmite, even with those weird sticks that people bring out during Christmas.
2:51what are they called? Twiglets! Yeah. I've tried. If I'm drinking, maybe. You know what I mean? Like Christmas drink with a twiglet? I'm not mad.
2:59Romesh Ranganathan:You actually mentioned twiglets in an interview at the time. I'll give you the exact quote. During Christmas, I will have four of those fucking Marmite Twiggy things. But that's it. Me? Yep, that's how I feel. There you go. That was Who's that girl? Is that girl? Who's that girl?
3:33Romesh Ranganathan:God.
3:37Romesh Ranganathan:Do you like twiglets, mum? I love twiglets. Yeah. Do you like marmite? I drink marmite with shallots. With what? Shallots. Shallots? Yeah. So you have marmite and shallots. Yeah. As a hot beverage? Yeah. Fucking hell. Jesus Christ. Are you not worried about... At home, I didn't drink that. Your breath must fucking reek after that. Do you put a spoonful of Marmite into hot water, into boiling water? Boiling water, mix it, and chop some shallots, and we have a drink, and bite that onion. It's beautiful. Beautiful. And if you really want to finish off the effect on your breath, chow down on a dog shit.

5:22Romesh Ranganathan:Now, it's hotting up outside Mum, can I ask you a question? Yes, of course So when it gets hotter, as it has been getting hotter A lot of men like to just walk around with their tops off What do you think about that? I like that, I like that I hate it If they don't know I can I be clear six pack no no no now you're saying if you've got a certain body it's okay to do it yeah no if you have big boobs and you need a bra don't take your top off no no it doesn't matter what your physique is do not do it what the fuck are you doing why not keep your it's unacceptable to be walking around in the street are you mad no don't like it not for me that's my hot take if you have a six pack no in fact I'd say if you've got a six pack even worse you make other people feel bad about themselves I don't think you should be taking your top off what happens if you're on the beach on the beach is fine and you want to get an ice cream from something on the promenade put your top on and go and get an ice cream that okay look that's a grey area alright I think that's a bit different but if you went out here and people are walking around in the street with their tops off.
6:39Romesh Ranganathan:Is that acceptable? No. I mean, it's acceptable because you have to accept it. You're not stopping them. But the point is, it's a disgrace. You know when they take the top and tuck it in the bottom of their shorts and they're wandering around? Fucking horrible. They think they are good looking. That's why. Okay. They need attention. Yeah, don't we all? We're all validation addicts here, aren't we? Aren't we, guys? I'm not. I think you are. Ben, you definitely are. I'm not. You are, Ben. I'm not saying it's an insult, but you are. Will, not so much. John, I'm on the fence about you. Okay. And that will upset you because you love validation.
7:16Romesh Ranganathan:Now, we're going to show you some hot weather fashion. Yeah. And I want you to just give me your take on it, okay? Yeah. So, let's start starting with this. Okay, so let's have a look. Yeah. Men or women in flip-flops with office attire? So, office clothing but wearing flip-flops. No, I don't agree with that. No. No, office, wear nice shoes. Okay, what if it's really hot? Flip-flop is for the beach. Flip-flop for the beach. Thong, that's well for the beach. Yeah, thongs. Yeah. Bucket hats. Oh, my God. Make everyone ugly, though. Okay. Bucket hats. Big apologies to Cypress Hill. Yeah. Tiny sunglasses.
7:58Why tiny sunglasses?
8:00Romesh Ranganathan:What's the point? It doesn't cover your eyes. You wear sunglasses to protect from the sun. Okay, these really are hot takes. Huge sunglasses? No. Okay. No. Why? You have a small face and you have a huge sunglasses. Yeah. Look like a monster. So in that case, you should wear tiny sunglasses. Not tiny. Medium size. Medium size. Yeah. Medium sunglasses. Why don't we go and try whatever sunglasses suits you, wear it. Because you have ugly face. Wear the tiny sunglasses. Okay. How am I going to look? Joanne McNally. you were of Joanne McNally, the comedian? Yeah. She says that men, as a rule, are not able to choose sunglasses that suit them, as a gender.
8:45Oh.
8:46Romesh Ranganathan:No men wear sunglasses that suit them. What do you think of that? She's right. Yeah, yeah. Will, I've never seen you wear sunglasses. Do you wear sunglasses? Ben, you wear them all the time. Sometimes you wear them in pitch meetings, don't you? John, I've not seen you wear sunglasses. No, I don't. You never wear them? I don't really wear them, no. How come? I've never really found a pair that suited me, actually. So maybe Joanna's right. Here's a question for everybody. Have you ever worn them inside? Inside where? Shout out to the Wayans Brothers. Have you ever worn them inside? When I was 17, I used to go to garage raves at Bagley's and there's pictures of me in sunglasses and a purple shirt.
9:28Romesh Ranganathan:I didn't do that well at clubs. I think I wish it was more acceptable to wear sunglasses inside I mean I've I've had I love sunglasses because they cover my lazy eye darling you that's fine no but what I mean is when I was growing up wearing sunglasses I suddenly felt a little bit more confident because you didn't you know that's the honest now I don't give a shit but back then but both both sunglasses you mean both sunglasses in like both lenses yeah I didn't wear an eye patch
9:58Romesh Ranganathan:I'd wear sunglasses and I'd be like then suddenly nobody can tell and then you feel a bit more confident. And then occasionally I did go to the club with sunglasses on. It's not a good look. I was sweating. I remember like, do you remember when you used to go clubbing and then you'd buy like, you'd spend a load of money on like, I remember I bought this polo, polo sport sort of pullover kind of top and it was really warm. But because I spent so much money on it, I wore it into a club and fucking melted. took it off and it just had brown marks where I'd sweated into it you stood at the bar absolutely fucking roasting because you're desperate to that happened there you'd spend all your money on the one designer thing that you own and then you have to rock it everywhere, it's so bad anyway, sunglasses, I'd wear those again inside I've done it before, sometimes you go to fancy dress night and you think I could get away with sunglasses inside and you feel like an absolute donny but you don't wear them Should we get John some sunglasses?
10:59Romesh Ranganathan:It'd be nice. I mean, nobody will ever know what he looks like in them because we're not allowed to show your hideous faces. But I think it was probably from one of my early jobs was that I worked in promo. So you're talking to people all the time. So you're out on the street. We were handing stuff out for a radio station. And so one of the rules was you can't wear sunglasses because then you can't make eye contact with people. You can't actually have a proper conversation with them. And that was quite formative years for me. So I think I just went, oh, you just don't wear sunglasses then. But you will look nice in sunglasses.
11:29You know those, what's the shape of my, like the motorbike? Oh, like an aviator.
11:36Romesh Ranganathan:Yeah. Oh, yeah. You look good in aviator. Your structure, the face. Yeah. That will look superb. Really big aviators would look great on you. Massive ones. Thanks, Shanthi. It will. Thank you specifically, Shanthi. Okay. What are you going to say, Ben? No, no. I feel obviously some people can't see John, so I just thought if you could describe why they would suit him. because he's got I would describe John as having sort of classically Aryan good looks good looks yeah yeah he's got like a he's Viking-esque isn't he it looks like he's been up to something in a village
12:12why do you bring these bloody things to me you have you are a dirty bugger
12:19Romesh Ranganathan:okay should we carry on the hot takes but John you're a good looking guy. Ben, you are too. Will, you are too. You know which one I meant. The gold frame. Yeah, I think that's a good idea. Hawaiian shirts. What do you think of those? I love her. I love it. You know why, don't you? Because you love Tom Selleck. He wore Hawaiian shirts in Magnum PI all the time. I did fancy him. Yeah. In my dream. Sunbathing in a state of undress in your local park. That's a bit stupid, man. Why? Look at me. I got big boobs. It's horrible. Okay, but let's stick to the hypothetical scenario. What do you think about people sunbathing in a state of undressing your local park?
13:03Romesh Ranganathan:No. No. I don't like it. Okay, let's look at food or drink. Mom, what do you think of barbecues? I love barbecues. Overrated. Are you saying that? I think British barbecues are overrated. However, I've watched American Barbecue Showdown or whatever the fuck it's called. And that barbecue looks insane. Are you allowed to watch it as a vegan? I've watched every episode of that show. Why would you, why do you watch it if you can't eat any of it? I just don't. It just looks so amazing what they do. They spend like three days. Pramesh was a, used to love mutton, love fish, when he was a baby. That's why he was a fat child.
13:42Romesh Ranganathan:As a baby? Thank you so much. It's amazing how much. Seven, eight, he loved food. So much. Iran. I just did that so naturally. I used to love mutton, fish. Yeah. Yeah, I did eat a lot of meat when I was a kid. Yeah. But not anymore. But obviously veggie barbecue shit. If somebody, I saw, oh, God, it was so not depressing. That's an exaggeration. Somebody said, do you like vegan barbecue? Do you like barbecue but you're vegan? Check this out. and they treated, they'd taken this thing and they treated it like they would do a piece of steak. And you know what it was? Watermelon. Pathetic. Iced tea and coffee.
14:28I like iced tea and coffee. I love it. Especially in the hot weather. Iced coffee or iced tea and I love it. I love it.
14:37Romesh Ranganathan:When we were filming, when Ben and I were filming in America, that was when I was at my heaviest probably. Yeah. Oh, yeah. And I was exercising and trying to eat carefully after a while because I thought I'm getting really big. I was drinking, I kept drinking iced oat milk lattes. Yeah. And then I looked it up. I was having about three or four of those a day. They're about 450 calories each. Oh, my God. Yeah. Really? So that's 1 ,600 calories a day before you've eaten a single thing. And then I wondered why I was struggling to get the weight off. Pimms. I love Pimms, yeah. Pimms is good. It's been a big jug and I can sit there and drink anytime.
15:25Yeah.
15:26Romesh Ranganathan:99 ice creams. No. Don't like it. I love the Mr. Whippy. I mean, I can't have them now. Mr. Whippy? Oh, yeah, big time. Mr. Whippy? People go crazy. Is there actually milk in them? Yeah. Milk powder. I thought it was just powder, yeah. Yeah. Apparently, for everyone, I read this somewhere. For every one penny of mix you put in, you get 99p's worth of ice cream out or a quid's worth of ice cream. Like the margin is insane. And didn't Thatcher invent Mr. Whippy? Is that true? There's more air in the ice cream so that you get, essentially it goes further. Further, yeah. Wow. So she wasn't all bad.
16:04Romesh Ranganathan:Big shout out to Maggie. She put out a little liquor for Thatcher. Salads with fruit in them. I love it. Yeah. What fruit do you like in a salad? I like pomegranate. Pomegranate's good. Yeah. Anything else? And sometimes I like a tiny bit of pineapple. Pineapple's nice. Yeah. Yeah. Do you know what's good in a salad? Mango. Mango. Mango's the number one fruit to go in. Would you agree with that? I really do. I feel quite strongly about that. Mango in a salad. I have got 21 mangoes at home. Yeah. She's going to make three tons of salad. 21 mangoes. I brought up. Shut the fuck up. Mangoes are quite difficult to peel, aren't they?
16:50Romesh Ranganathan:Without wasted, Jimmy. You give it to me. I show you how to peel. I know, but I just get, you know when you see, because mangoes are quite expensive as well. 21 for 12 pounds. Are they Alfonso's? Quesa mangoes. Oh, Quesa mangoes. Why have you got 21? Soon after lunch, I peel one and I eat it. Yeah, and then you've got 20 left. what are you going to do with this? I told her bring it here. Cut them and I didn't know that you like mangoes. How long do they last for? It's in the garage, so it will last for a long time. Let it ripe. Let it ripe, yeah. Is the garage the best place to store mangoes? Of course, my garage is clean.
17:31Romesh Ranganathan:Okay, so clean garage, store your mangoes and then you can buy 20, 30 at a time. This episode is brought to you by Sainsbury's. 21:23Romesh Ranganathan:On Photoshop? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm learning my son because you the latest gadgets you think she's fucking stupid she don't know anything ok let's have a listen to our first voice note, it's anonymous Hi Ramesh and Shanti I am a difficult to unpack that not only anonymous I'm a huge fan of your podcast. I really enjoy listening to the couples conundrums that come in, and I have got one as well, and I would like your advice, please. So I think as part of grooming yourself, you should remove the buildup of fluff that comes in the corners of your toenails. And I do this because it makes your feet smelly and grim.
22:23So my boyfriend, he has got a lot, a lot of this build up in his toenails. And to be quite honest with you, his toenails look like Shrek.
22:36Romesh Ranganathan:So I try and remove this for him. But he does not let me do this. And I'm just trying to groom him because I think that's, you know, it's a nice thing for me to do. so I'd like your opinions on whether my boyfriend should just grow up and let me do this or if he's right in not letting me do this thank you very much love the pod bye sorry this is the first I'm hearing of people getting build up of fluff in the corners of their toenails usually the fluff comes here in the belly button has anybody experienced this fluff on the Only when I've worn brand new socks. Yeah. When you wear brand new socks, sometimes when you get in the shower, you suddenly realize that you've got sock fluff on your feet.
23:29Romesh Ranganathan:But I've not had it build up in the corner of my toe. I think it's ticklish. That's why he's not letting her to do that. Do you get a fluff in the corners of your toenails? No. Do you? I keep my feet. You'd be the most likely out of the three of you that I would think would get it. Thank you. You're welcome. Maybe she created this question. So she's picking it out.
23:52Romesh Ranganathan:I don't know why your boyfriend's not letting you pick it out. I don't understand. He's ticklish, darling. Yeah, but why is he not picking it out himself? Maybe he can't bend down. I wish I could speak to you. I wish that we could get callers in, because it's a smelly fluff that accumulates in the corner of the toenails. I don't know. I'm glad, anonymous, that you're... By the way, I'm glad you said anonymous for your sake. But I'm glad that you're picking the fluff out for yourself. I think your boyfriend should be picking his own fluff, don't you? That's right. It's a child. He's a grown-up man.
24:24Yeah. He's banging her, so he should be able to do that. Yeah.
24:29Romesh Ranganathan:What is this? Where do you both stand on squeezing your partner's spots? That's disgusting. People do that, don't they? Yeah. Does Georgie do that for you? I'm actually not that spottier person. What spot? If we're going to just make up stuff, then there's no point having this conversation.
24:50Romesh Ranganathan:would you let your partner squeeze a spot yeah I would say it's in the middle of your back and it's painful that's an act of love then but that's different to going do you want to squeeze a spot on my arm I don't know how I feel about that I can't imagine ever asking Lisa I don't think so if you're in pain still no do you help Lisa at all with any beauty elements she's got quite a spotty arse so I will squeeze those oh my god don't say that cut that off darling that's what I said to her cut that off it's like a second head on your butt cheek she's got another one just above the crack like you know right at the base of the spine sometimes I have a chat with it no I'm joking do I help Lisa with beauty stuff not really no no I don't You must apply sun cream.
25:50Romesh Ranganathan:Sun cream, I do, yeah. Yeah, I do apply sun cream. Your wife got a lovely ass. Someone had to say it. Yeah.
26:03Romesh Ranganathan:None of this is going in. Yeah, I apply sun cream, yeah. But that's not a... It is sexy. I don't think it is sexy. It depends how you do it, if you're doing it. But don't do that. Don't you have sunscreen, okay? Why? You'll arrive at the Gatwick Airport with teeth in the eye. You'll be really pitch black. That's why you should put sun cream on. Do you not wear sun cream? I do, for the darker skin. Yeah, but everybody should be wearing sun cream. I wear sunscreen every day of my life. Everyone else does that, right? I do, I do, when I go into the garden. You're on telly, that's probably why. That's not why.
26:40It's because it's a health thing.

28:16Romesh Ranganathan:I've never... Could people email in? Podcast at Rangaby.com if it's a known thing that you get fluff in the corner of your turnnails. I've never heard of it, ever. Drop us a comment. Pardon? Drop us a comment. We don't need an email on that, I think. Just comment. Email in with a photo. If you've got it... Stay out of our inbox. If you've got a photo... No, we don't need a photo. Send a photo of the turnnail. Just comment. Just say comment. I do that or something. No. Nice. Yeah. Email in podcast at rangami.com with accompanying pictures. Just leave a comment. Fluff. Just one word. Fluff. Fluff.
28:53Romesh Ranganathan:If you get fluff in the comments. And no fluff. No fluff if you don't. With a photo. Don't do that. We don't need photos. Podcast at rangami.com. Send an email in. Okay. We've got a voice note now from, how do you pronounce this? Ronya from Finland. Hello, Ramos and Shanti. I'm trying to add a bit more internationality to the podcast. So hello from Finland. My name is Ronja. So my question regards my dad. Growing up, I was very close with him. I've always shared a lot for comedy with him from SNL, Monty Python to British panel shows and everything in between. But as I've gotten older, I have started seeing some of his more sexist views.
29:36As a kid, my dream job was to be a stand-up comedian. when I talked about this with him a couple years back. He said, women can't do comedy like men. Their brains are wired different. He also said he felt prouder as a man to be a father when my younger brother was born. And there's a ton of more examples, but I won't go into all of them. When I try to debate him on his views, he gets upset, calls me emotional, and says, I can't take a joke. so what should i do accept that he can be a sexist prick from time to time or should i keep trying to change his views um also i absolutely agree that uh roberts is a sex icon he might have might not have made that swedish man blush on taskmaster but one finnish woman was certainly blushing.
30:30Thank you for answering. Kitos. There you are.
30:35Romesh Ranganathan:Thank you, Ronya. Sex icon. You are. What? What are you doing what for? You look great. Yeah, you do. Yeah, I mean, look, I'm not, I'm a jake, I'm not a sex icon. But thank you, Ronya. Okay, mum, this is quite a tricky one to navigate. What do you think about this thing with Ronya's dad? I don't know what to answer. He shouldn't say all those things. He should encourage her to do things and come up in life. Why can't she be a comedian? Why? Why is he telling all that? I think, Rania, with things like this, this is not a great answer, but I'm going to be honest with you. some of the stuff that you said that your dad said is quite offensive and I could understand why being hearing your as a woman hearing your father talk like that must be difficult actually and I don't think you should underestimate how much that might affect you because it's like I know you're laughing off in the voice but it's quite it's pretty bad isn't it women's brains are wired differently or whatever and I feel proud of having a son or whatever and all this kind of stuff I do think with family it's a tricky one I think you've given us two options as to what you should do and I think you should do both of them so the first thing you said was accept that he's a sexist prick I do think when your family behave a certain way you can deal with it a lot better by accepting that's how they're going to behave or just you know if you expect different behaviour to what your family exhibit it only leads to frustration if you know that your dad is going to say things like this and you've kind of made your peace with it, it makes it a lot easier to interact with him.
32:28Romesh Ranganathan:It might not lead to resentment. Similarly, but at the same time, I think you should be looking to kind of change his views if you can. And remember that he does love you. He's saying this stuff and whatever, but I'm sure he really does love you. So it's that thing of accepting that he'll say these things. You know, men can be a nightmare, and particularly men of an older generation, their views on gender can be tricky to navigate. But I think it's a combination of acceptance and sort of gradually trying to get your dad's way of thinking around to yours. What do you think, mom? Superb advice. But she's not living with him.
33:06Romesh Ranganathan:Don't know. No. Depends on her age. I mean, she would have moved out. Why do you want to listen to his advice? She's putting her down. Yeah. Do what you want to do and make sure you keep the relationship with him later on when you become famous. Okay. He will appreciate all that. Yeah. Good luck, Rania, with your comedy career. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Do you think she should confront her dad? No, no. Parents, they do say all sorts of things. I don't know. I must have upset you saying things. I can't think of a time. No, I encourage you. But I, so don't take it seriously. Yeah. And maybe that's the way his opinion there is.
33:49Respect that and you do what you want to do.
